With Ben Rogers out on vacation, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina take the mic and dive into everything from magician movies to the legacy of Pee-wee Herman. Krystina kicks things off with a surprising revelation: she finally watched The Prestige—and it blew her mind. That sparks a hilarious back-and-forth about The Illusionist, why 2006 was the year of dueling magic movies, and how her magician-loving boyfriend roped her into a Memorial Day movie marathon. But the real magic comes when Skin passionately breaks down the new HBO documentary Pee-wee Herman as Himself. What starts as a nostalgic trip turns into a heartfelt exploration of Paul Reubens’ life, his creative genius, and the surprising influence Pee-wee had on SpongeBob SquarePants. From his early days in The Groundlings with Phil Hartman to the character that thankfully didn’t age well (a lounge-singing Native American), the doc reveals a side of Pee-wee most never knew.

I know you documentary. Okay, you're getting You're already there. Yeah,
and I'm gonna tell you which one it is in
a second. But before that, we were in a commercial
break earlier, Christina was talking about something that you watched me.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Yes, yeah, so I watched.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
I said, hey, guys, I watched a badass magician movie yesterday.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
And you're like, all right, just stop it. Hold it
right there. It sounded like a prank.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
No, it's incredible, and let me. I just want to
list the cast and see if you've actually seen it,
and so you can guess it. Okay, Scarlett Johansson, Christian Bale.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
It is The Illusionist, No Club, it's the other one
that came out at the same time.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Jackman, Yeah, the Greatest Showman. No, I'm gonna.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
I remember the movie because it came out at the
same time as The Illusionists, A fine Dutchman.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
No what, it's The Prestige.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
The Prestige, that's right, directed by Christopher and it's so awesome,
Like I don't think I've ever seen it before. I
thought i'd seen it, you know, years ago.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
You might have.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Hold on, let me guess. I bet that movie came
out in the year two thousand and two six, Okay, okay, damn,
So yeah, that's twenty what years it?

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Wow? So you guys know it's twenty twenty five okay five,
first week of college? Just real quick. You guys know
my boyfriend loves magicians. Yeah, he is magic, and so
when he first mentioned it, that's kind of what he says,
like you want to watch a magician movie.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
I just look at him, like.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
You know what, it's Memorial Day.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Sure we have nothing else to watch? Okay, another can
you look it up, Katia.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
Another movie came out at the exact same time, called
The Illusionist, and it's probably two thousand and five, two
thousand and six. I just remember, why are there two
magician movies that are in the theater at the same time.
It came out about two months before. Okay, and edw
Yessica Biel. Yeah, so, I mean also great cast to

(03:15):
say who the director was.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
The director was the legendary Neil berger Man.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Okay, so there's no way there was a badass twist
at the end or anything like that.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
It's really good.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
And I was gonna say, since your boyfriend is a magician,
see if he's seen The Illusionists, because again these movies
came out. It's Katy and I just remember going, why
are they are two magic Man movies? But they're both
really good, really really good. All Right, You guys grew
up with SpongeBob, right, Yes, they loved SpongeBob absolutely. So
I was watching a documentary and I realized they didn't

(03:50):
mention SpongeBob. But as I'm watching this documentary, I'm like, god,
I never realized what an incredible influence pe Wee Herman
had on SpongeBob SquarePants. Okay, like a tremendous influence there is.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Do you have hbo KT that's the one you don't have, right?
You have everything?

Speaker 3 (04:11):
All right?

Speaker 1 (04:11):
Hey man, quit yelling at Christina, I have them all.

Speaker 2 (04:14):
I would really love for you guys to watch pee
Wee Herman as himself. It's two part documentary on HBO,
and they, you know, he died of cancer, had a
bone cancer, but the filmmakers didn't know he was dying
of film cancer of bone cancer. They just knew that
he was going to open up and tell them things.

(04:35):
And you know, I grew up with pee Wee Herman,
not like you know that movie was. I think I
was in junior high when Pee Wee's Big Adventure came out,
probably eighty four or something like that, and love loved
pee Wee Herman and kind of knew some of the backstory,
but didn't really know the backstory. Did you know he
was in the Groundlings?

Speaker 3 (04:54):
No?

Speaker 1 (04:55):
Do you know who he was?

Speaker 2 (04:56):
His number one writing partner was was a guy you
and it was Phil Hartman. Really, he was in the
Groundlings with Phil Hartman. And it just talked about he
had all these different characters that he was trying to
make connect. And it was interesting because, I mean, most
people realize pee Wee's gay, but what I didn't know
is he was openly gay until he wanted to be

(05:20):
a star. So he kind of went back in the
closet and never talked about his sexuality and created Pee
Wee Herman and all this stuff, and I think people
probably made assumptions or whatever, but it lays out how
he became a star. And it's really incredible because he
had a bunch of different characters, including one that he
thought was going to take off, which was a lounge
singing Native American and he goes man that would not

(05:44):
have aged.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
Well, I'm so glad that that did not take off.
But the way that.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
He created Pee Wee Herman and what it became basically
the herb the guy on SpongeBob, the Sailor or whatever's sobster.
It's basically Phil Hartman from the old Pee Wee Herman show.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
And tee Wee is basically SpongeBob. He's kind of annoying boy, yeah,
with some adult ish jokes that are funny.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
Sure, And I was watching it going, man, I never
put two and two together. But the SpongeBob is is
totally from Pee Wee Herman. But it might be different
from me because the age I'm at. But I would
love for you guys to at least it's two parts.
So if you watch the first part and don't like it,
bail out.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Well, we are our friends at the dum Zone. We're
talking about this yesterday. Oh they were, and Jake actually
really liked it, and he's around our age, so I
think we'll like it.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
I think it's fantastic. He talk about the allegations. I'm
gonna leave that for you to find out. I mean, eh,
it's the Bit and Skin Show ninety seven point one.
The Eagle coming up next. He pointed at us. He
told us to let's go get it. Did he end
up getting vindicated at the box office.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
We'll talk about tom Cruise next. Right here on ninety
seven point one, h
