Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, Uh, we have nine inch nails tickets that
we're giving away all this week. We gave him away
earlier today. If you didn't win, that's okay. You still
have a couple of days left to win your pair.
They're coming back in March to the American Airlines Center.
But right now it's time for this somehow. That's theran

(00:26):
so good.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
So a Rolling Stone put out a list today the
two hundred and fifty greatest songs of the twenty first century.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
So going back to two.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Thousand, okay, and uh, I took little notes on this,
and maybe the next segment we'll get down to nitty
gritty what really worked?

Speaker 1 (00:40):
All right?

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Do you remember a couple weeks ago, Dak Prescott was
asked at his locker what he.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Likes to listen to and he named a Train song. Yeah,
And do you remember what else?

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Do you remember, Christina, was there a cold Play song
in there? No, that was a romo? Was the cold
Play guys keep trying to force cold Play today?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:59):
Dak was the guy with the Coldplay guy. Probably a
country song and a trained song and a rap song.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
For my money advantage romo on that it was wagon
Wheel which he gave credit to Darius Rucker, even though
the original was by Old Crow Medicine Show.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Okay, so number two fifty on the list, there's Drops
of Jupiter by Train, which is the song he mentioned
what a Thrashing, And then at two sixteen is a
Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Do I know these songs? I mean I know that
Drops a Jupiter song. You know, wagon will Wagon rolling
around and around again. I think everyone kind of knows
it around this part of your texting. You know, I'm
not I'm from Cuba. Two thirty five Times like These
by the Fool Fighters. Love that song? Yeah, I love
that song. How many are you off the top of

(01:48):
your head? How many Fool Fighters songs are on there?
I think just one?

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Really, I went through them one by one, but I
think it was just one because I thought Best of
You would have been on there.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
I was going to say, do you guys prefer best
of you? Or times like these? Oh? Best of you?
For me? Best of you? It makes me cry? Oh
it doesn't make me cry? Maybe it doesn't. Uh.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Two o five I would contend a top one hundred
song of all time for me. Green Days Jesus of Suburbia.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Oh wow, okay, so not really a single, that's kind
of a deep cut.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
How little bit it's there? It's their Bohemian rhapsody. How
many Green Day songs around there? Just one?

Speaker 3 (02:24):
Is that?

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Right? That's that one?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Well?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
I bet a bunch of their ones that we really
know are from the late nineties? Right?

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yeah? When did Green Days? I mean when they exploded
multiple times? Right, but they really exploded with American Idiot.
That is impressive. An American Idiot was in the two thousands.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Yeah, really doesn't When that came out, I loved it,
loved it. Which album is brain stew one? That is nineties? Yeah?
Ok someone?

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Yeah one ninety six. My favorite Radiohead song in the
two thousands, It's gotta be everything on here is two?

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Okay? So in Rainbows no oh it's oh, it's probably
on kid a interesting moon shape pool.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Oh. He likes the he likes Oh yeah, hell oh
they heed?

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Yeah, they're there there. You know what, if you told
me that's the best radio Head song, I would not
argue with you. You've never fought me on it once.
I love it, I love it.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
N have an essence, bring me back to life, all right,
A band I put on here because I know you
saw them in Austin City Limits one time, Skinned Kids
by MGMT one eighty seven.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
It was it was actually south By Southwest, Yeah, And
it was so weird to see them live because they
hadn't figured out how to to change their sound of
the studio to a live show. And it was right
when they first blew up and I was watching him,
I was like, this sounds like the band from Almost Famous,
Like it just kind of sounds like a late seventies band.

(03:58):
They didn't really have their sonic dialed in to replicate
because that first what's that record called that has Let's
Pretend We're time to Pretend, Time to pretend? Records called
that had a specific like that the drums are super compressed,
and they did it had a sound to it, and
they hadn't figured out how to convert that to a
live setting yet. So I was kind of sitting there

(04:18):
scratching my balls, going I.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
Don't know, he was scratched his balls, folks. Pretty good,
Miss Jackson outcasts Kings of Leon with you somebody.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
I know that that's like their go to overly popular song,
but I think it's awesome. That and Sex on Fire.
Oh I like sex on Fire better, not just in general.
I don't like it. That's why your balls are it?
System of a down at one seventy four eight did
you see no? Sorry? Tell us the song? Are they coming?

Speaker 3 (04:55):
They're not coming here, but they are going to be
headlining a festival in I believe it's to be in
Vegas in April.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
I know, although now that been brought back the butt
virus from Vegas, I don't know that I want to
go to Vegas again.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Chop suey alright, Flaming Lips got on there one sixty four,
Do I realize?

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Okay, you've you on the radio? One sixty three Wolf
like me, he doesn't let his guess. That's a great
little time is of the Es. That is their best song.
Float on one fifty nine by Modest Mouse. That is
the best talking head song. One I Miss You.

Speaker 2 (05:30):
Okay wait a yeah, yeah, I love it. Uh, let's
carry some of these over top one hundreds.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Insane dude, all right, sane, Well we'll get into the
top one hundred next. It's almost too much. Ben and
Skin Show ninety seven point one, The Eagle, Hey, something
cool that you can do on Saturday. iHeart our radio company.
We're going to be involved in this and that is
the American Cancer Society Making Strides against Breast Cancer. It's
a it's a non competitive group walk that's happening this Saturday,

(06:00):
October the eleven. That the Levy Event Plaza right there
on Lost Calenas Boulevard, Irving slash Lost Kalinas Area. Go
to makingstrideswalk dot org forward slash North Texas Making strideswalk
dot orgs forward slash North Texas for details and how
you can get involved in what we think is an
amazing cause. All right, we have the top one hundred

(06:20):
songs of the twenty first century according to Rolling Stone,
and Katie has done the deep dive for us.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Yes, I sure have. And I love when things are
a list he does. God, this fits my OCD tendencies.
I like to organize things, uh so the Rolling Stone.
Even though I have a lot of qualms with the list,
I have a lot of questions. I would ask two
hundred and fifty greatest songs of the twenty first century, and.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
We recently just ran down from one hundred to two
fifty to songs that Eagle listeners were most interested in.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Yeah, I think some of those part in a few
special Yeah, least Dregs ninety six would give us Welcome
to the Black Parade to get some my chemical romance.
It's representation here. Incredible because that might be for a
two year span. The biggest band in the world that
we kind of forget was the biggest band in the world.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
They got really big with a certain demo.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
Well, every time they announce the show, it's sold out immediately.
So yeah, because they're don't dedicated fan base. You're right,
because they don't constantly tour all the time. So it's
like when they're here, Oh my god, we got to
do it. Yeah eighty two, Hey y'a from Outcast out
on there.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
I would have that in the top ten. I still
love that music video. It's oh, it's wonderful. Yeah. And
here's the other thing too, Like if that song like,
there's always influence to me. A song like that paves
the way for Pharrell to shock the world with happy Yeah.
You know what I'm saying, Like, Hey, y'all came out
of nowhere and you find me a song twenty years

(07:49):
before it that sounded even anything remotely like it when
you have something that is so wholly unique from everything
else and it's catchy and everybody loves it. Yeah, that's
a banger that should be a top ten songs.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Also came at a time when VH one was like,
we'll do what MTV is doing, and MTV is doing
less of what MTV did, and FUSE had the EMO
and you know, hard rock crowd, but VH one was
playing a little bit of everything. So to see VH
one play that and then play like a Beyonce video
but then the Killers, like it was very weird time.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
Yeah, it just it fit a It was a perfect crossover,
you know, especially for a man like Outcast where the
two main guys were going in wildly different directions. Yeah. Creatively,
it's a song that white people can easily get. Yeah. Yeah,
and yeah, it's it crosses over all. Jean another song
like that, but I'm thinking it might be late nineties,
so I don't know if it's in there. But I

(08:44):
feel that same way about Narls Barkley Crazy. Oh, for sure.
I think that's one of the greatest songs ever, But
I don't think it's I think it's like late nineties.
Is that. It's okay. I think it's close.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
Let's get to the top fifty here, because these are
all huge, and these are I'm not gonna cater this
to just rock. We're gonna bounce around a little bit. Yep,
Amy Winehouse Rehab is in there.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
It's a good guess.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Oh can take a lot of a lot of good
looking girls over for ka yep, yep. No, nope, nope, nope,
nope no not rehab, No, all right, back to black
thol Oh.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
I like that song even better. I'd thought they would
have gone with the hit forty eight paper Planes. Oh
my god, that's the top ten for me. That's a
little boost from Pineapple Express too. It was pretty good. Great,
it's got a great clash sample in it.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
I would say skin A pop song that you really
love comes in at forty two from the Canadian gal
Atlantis Morsa. Nope, uh, yep, okay, I love that song.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
That should be top three, oh Maxie, miss.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
Yeah, Well, let's dirk it than if we're at forty two.
The weekend Blinding Lights, Oh well, I can't disagree.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Song rules, it's a great song. We're in a grande.
Eminem's lose yourself thirty nine. Wait what Areana Grande?

Speaker 2 (10:05):
So?

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Thank you? Next? Actually I don't even know another style.

Speaker 2 (10:08):
I post Pete Davidson, thank you for your huge one. Next,
i'd have to hear it. I'm sure I've heard it.
But like, she's one that I haven't paid any attention to.
Yeah good, I'm the opposite of Bill Clinton.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Yeah, he pays a lot of attention to her, and
he licks his lips while looking at her driver's license.
Olivia Rodrigo thirty eight songs so baiting. I agree.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
I think I think in general her stuf's pretty good. Yeah,
no matter how many artists she's ripping off of, I
really don't care. I have that song I think sucks.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
I have a hard time relating to the overly emotive
fifteen year old girl, right, which is good? Yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:45):
Now, five years ago, you were telling me about the
song Billy your girl your daughter was fifteen.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
Yeah, but I was. I was telling you why the
song was so big, not that I liked it. I
was just like, hey, here's why this world is so
But I will say I'm actually contradicting my elf because
I loved that first Billie Eilish stuff, like when she Yeah, yeah,
the bad guy there. The one that I liked was
Ocean Eye. I thought that song was amazing. That song

(11:13):
that was the one where she blew up on SoundCloud
or whatever. My daughter's so so cute because she was young.
She was like I discovered her, you know, because she's
young and she's the one. Yeah, it's awesome when you
find about that bands.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
If no one in your circle knows, they are absolutely
number thirty five LCD sound system all my friends, is
that your favorite?

Speaker 1 (11:35):
No, it's not in the top ten LCD sound systems. Off.
I love that, But there's other songs even on that
album that I would have had higher. Yeah, I would agree.
I would agree with that. Let's move on to thirty one.
Let's go out to Burleson.

Speaker 3 (11:50):
Oh, Kelly Clark's Okay, I don't think would be on
the list.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Man, you're amazing that. He's very good, though. What if
he just out of nowhere landed a top thirty five
song of the twenty first century?

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Uh twenty nine international Player's anthem?

Speaker 1 (12:11):
Wait, that's a gem outkay? Who? What was the Kelly
Clarkson songs since You've been Gone? A heater? Yeah? What
a heater? Great when it first came out. Didn't the
Toties do a cover of that? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (12:24):
Du A Lipa had played at the night before she
brought a leon Bridges out. All right, there's a cover
and yeah, actually does songs for the area.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
He covered the chain the other night and it was
so good. Cool was great? Yeah? Did uh? Speaking of
there's no Leon bridge stuff on? There is there?

Speaker 2 (12:40):
No?

Speaker 1 (12:40):
You didn't see it okay.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yet Top two fifty, Yeah, Willie sneaking the top twenty eight,
He's gonna not because twenty eight's daft punk.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
One More Time that's a banger, dude. It's not their
best song, uh no, but if you put you could
put one More Time on as a bunch of guys
are waiting for Pantera to take stage and they would
move to oh yeah, yeah, it's great. Twenty six The
Killers Mister Bright's Eye. Do you like that? As a
big Killers fan?

Speaker 2 (13:08):
Not one of my favorite Killer songs for sure, but
it's it's I get it, you know, and it's awesome.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
Ninety nine Problems jay z Oh hell Yeah, produced by
the Mighty Rick Rubin.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
I think if we get to the top twenty we
get into a lot of like Adele number nineteen okay,
which is like, okay, it hello or whatever Billie Eilish
bad Guy, Right, I knew that would be on there.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Okay, again, that's not one of her best songs to me,
that's the one that won. It's the one that won
the Grammy. No, I know, and I know, but I
was like, man, she got like seven that are better
than that.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
That might be something too, like some of these songs.
There's what made these people big. Yeah, they did stuff
that's better than that and the songs that were so
unique at the time. I remember hearing bad Guy even
like what is happening?

Speaker 1 (13:56):
So it kind of reminds me a little bit of
that Brittain the Spears toxic, you know that kind.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Of fifteen again Outcast bombs over bag Dad. Wow, that
costs getting lots of love fourteen. I predict you'll see
this guy at the super Bowl halftime show.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Daddy Yankee, what with Gasolina? I don't know that left here?
He he. He was the first big crossover reggaetne star
all right, yeah, thirteen, I think, and maybe there's somebody
that I'm forgetting that he was huge.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
He was the first like crossover without him. There may
not be a bad bunny, right right right? Imber thirteen
says a snooze.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Okay, Yeah, I like that song she did with Kendrick
Lamar for Black Panther Better but whatever.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Uh the Strokes last Night twelve, that's a that's a
bad again. Not my favorite Strokes song, but sad as
right number eleven, Uh, bad bunny.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
A song called SA.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Number ten Frank Ocean thinking about you a lot of
that song.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
That is a print song, dude, That is a that
is a straight up print song. The first time I
heard it, I was like, who is this and what
incredible things are they doing with their life? That song's amazing.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
Nine Britney Spears, Oops, dope toxic, toxic.

Speaker 1 (15:23):
There you go, look at me. I won something. They're right?
Radiohead really? Yeah? Which one? Oh? Sucking on lemons? No?
Oh oh h karma police? No no, no, that's on Okay, computers,
it's the one, uh cow to completely disappear? No? What

(15:45):
am I forgetting?

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (15:47):
Idio tech idiotech? Okay, it's hard to disagree, idiot. It's great.
Man's many have to come here on their tour. Yeah,
I got a crazy story. I'll tell you sometime about
when I found samples from Idio Tech while I was
listening to a classical noise record and had no idea.
Get sued. No, no, no, I'm saying it was that

(16:08):
I found where they sampled it, and I was like,
what awesome? Yeah, it was crazy. Number seven Kendrick Lamar
al right, oh no, no, no, it should not be that.
It should be uh bitch, don't kill my vibe. Number
six Robin dancing on my own.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
That song is actually great. It's wonderful. I'm sure it
on your way home tonight. No, we're gonna listen to
Christina's show. Number four too, well, I don't know which one.
What it's seen as her best song?

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Is it is that when mister Jake Jillen Hall took
her for she made a ten minute version of it.
I'll have to ask my daughter. Number four white stripes,
boom army, of course. Number three, Uh is it? Uh
ram right now? The bomb? Okay? Number two?

Speaker 2 (16:59):
The yeah yes, oh maps, maps, that's badass?

Speaker 1 (17:04):
And number one what is it?

Speaker 2 (17:06):
According to the Rolling Stone song you won't hear on
the Eagle much Missy Elliott, Oh, super dupa fly or
work it?

Speaker 1 (17:14):
Nope? What oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, boy, we did
play that on this station when we're making a change. Weird.
Great work by you, KT. I'll never forget the time
KT met Missy Elliott. He looked her dead in her
eye and he said to her, after being a good
girl for so long, I'm in my slutty era. And

(17:36):
Missy Elliott related to that, Christina, you gonna stick around
play some music. I am all right. Christina's got a
still ten o'clock right here on the Eagle. There you going, well,
I'm gonna get my sock bag dude that I had
to take a poop.
