Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray dive deep into one of the most bizarre and overlooked moments from the Cowboys-Jets game.In this episode, the crew unpacks a play that could’ve flipped the entire game — a deflected pass that literally hit the SkyCam, a moment missed by national media, local beat writers, and even the officials. Only one person caught it: Saad Yousef. And KT gives him his flowers for knowing the obscure NFL rule (Rule 7, Section 2, Article 7) that should’ve led to a replay of third down. Could this have changed the momentum entirely?

Speaker 1 (00:00):
A fellos Cowboy surprise.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Yeah, let's do it. Damn, let's go all right.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
So yesterday's game was not very close to the second half,
but there was a play early in the game that
I think is important that we talk about because none
of the people, like the Beat Riders at the game
were not talking about this. And it's kind of a
crazy situation. The Cowboys and the very first drive of

(00:40):
the game, you know, gave up Jesus seven and a
half minutes o'clock, this thirteen play drive. But they get
a stop, and they get a stop because on third
and six they rushed the passer and the ball goes
up in the air and it's deflected and it hits Skycamp,
the awesome cameras that they have just zooming over NFL
football field. It's pretty great. The only person in local

(01:03):
media or national media that I've heard talk about this
is our good friend sad Yusuf. I'm gonna play something
from you from a podcast. I'm a part of it.
I'm not promoting myself here, but is the one Star
Cowboys podcast. And listen to what sad use have said
about this.

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Play misapplied by the rule book too for for what
it's worth it should have been a replay down when
when they hit the skycam by the NFL rule book, Yeah,
so that's an automatic redo and they got it wrong
on the field, they got it replay assists didn't didn't
come in. And also it's a challengeable play that the

(01:38):
Jets didn't challenge. But it should have been third and
goal once again after after a hit Fowler and went up.
That's in the NFL rule book on the dead play
in the in the dead play section.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
So yeah, I mean that's huge because Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:53):
So it's a whole rule rule seven, section two, article seven,
and it's just like when a punter hits the jumbo tron,
stop the play and do it again. So when that
ball hits skycam, it should have been a replay and
the Jets might have had third and goal. And then
let's say they score on the next play seven to nothing,

(02:17):
Uncle momentums in the house. Now.

Speaker 2 (02:20):
I just think it's crazy that no one talked about that.
Were y' all thinking about that when it happened.

Speaker 5 (02:25):
So I watched the game in Vegas in a sportsbook,
and so I didn't get to hear even the audio
of the cowboy game, so there's like ten games happening
simultaneously or whatever, and horse racing and all this stuff.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
So, oh yeah, I missed that.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Like it.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
So you're saying that they drop back to pass and
the quarterback threw the ball into the camera.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Well yeah, so Dante Fowler, it was rushing him and
it hit off his hand or arm and then deflex
up into like behind justin fields and would ride off
his helmet its Skinne's great because they show the replay
of skycam and the football just comes and hits it
hits it right in the middle of the cameras. Okay, no,
but didn't they do that like several I thought they

(03:05):
did that after the change of possession when they came
back from the break, because when it was happening, I
didn't know that it hit the camera. No, okay, I
just saw it come down and then they kicked the
field goal, and then they went to break, and when
they came back from break, they started reshowing the play
and then they showed what you're talking about. And so
my my point is, I think there's a chance the

(03:29):
people on the field didn't know it hit the camera.
You know, that's a good point. You're right next now
I'm thinking about that. You're right, came back and showed
it because I watched the game.

Speaker 6 (03:41):
I had to watch the game on tape afterwards because
when it was happening live, I had something to do,
and so I knew what the score was. And when
you know what the score is, I don't watch every
second of the game. I kind of like, you know,
bounce a little bit. But I was watching that because
I wanted to see the tempo early and that happened.
I did not know it hit the camera. They went
to break, they came back, change of possession, and then

(04:01):
they started showing those plays. When you watch it in
like real time or whatever, it doesn't look like it
hits the camera.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Just look the ball went way up in the air
and no one could get underneath it.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
Yeah, and I'm seeing it now, and I guess there's
a chance that Kenny Clark could have run under it
and caught it.

Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Other than that, it's and it that would have been unlikely.
But other than that, I guess, is it like the
idea that's uketchable. It doesn't matter. It would nobody was.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
So it's in the rule book. It's just under a
dead play the dead play rules.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
Yeah, anytime anything hits it for any reason, camera like
that on the field, even though yeah, no matter what happens,
it's a good thing Kenny Clark didn't intercept it because
that might have got the Jets going, like who knows,
But like you said, it was it's a challengeable play too.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Did it actually hit the thing?

Speaker 5 (04:47):
Well, he only would have caught it if it didn't
hit the camera because he was running under it like
a fly ball and then it hits that camera and
goes the other way.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
Yeah, yeah, he overran it. No, you're right, it's really
it's really crazy. I mean how it hit a fowler's handstright.
It's just very wild. And it's one of those little
things because if you're the Jets, you absolutely challenge that
and get your third down back if you know the rules.
Don't know that and who knows that? No one besides Sod.
I wanted to let Sod you know, get his flowers

(05:16):
for that. Greg Olsen's it's always been talking about being
advanced guy and moving forward in the game.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
He didn't talk about it. No, none of the national
media was talking about it.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
Now the local be ready to talking about it, but
it's sod new and uh, I thought, I mean I
learned when he told me because we did a podcast
r after game and I learned when he told me,
and I was like, are you serious?

Speaker 2 (05:34):
That could have changed everything about that game. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (05:37):
And dude, by the way, when your coach does know
the rules like that, I've seen the coach for Oklahoma
City Thunder, Martin Danganel, who knows all the rules, and
I've seen him explain to the refs what's happening, and
it's mind blowing. It's like, Oh, I get why he's
the coach. He knows everything.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
All right. There you have it.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
There's the one play from yesterday's game that could have
changed everything. Coming up at just over three minutes, let's
talk about overcoming adversity and to the Cowboys have the
right guy in charge.

Speaker 6 (06:01):
After all, we'll discuss next just three Ben and Skin
Show ninety one point one the Eagle. Let's give away
those nine inch Nails tickets we've been talking about. They
are coming to the American Airline Center in March. And
the first person that uses the iHeart app that has
the talkback feature leave a talkback message with your name,
your phone number, your email address, and can answer the
question where did Ben go this weekend? We were talking

(06:22):
about it earlier in the show. If you can tell
us be the first one leave your name, number, phone number,
and of course your email address, you will win those nine.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Inch nails tickets.

Speaker 6 (06:31):
Huge music news announcement coming up at the bottom of
the hour, Big in the rock world. But right now
we're going to hand it back to KT because the
Cowboys overcame some big adversity.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
So the Cowboys had four I guess backup off itsive
linement started Nate Thomas at left tackle, hakem at NJ
at left guard, Brock Hoffman at center, TJ Bassett right guard,
and the Terrence Steel your only started at right tackle.
Tyler Smith suited out just in case someone got hurt
and he needed to go out there and just kind
of limp around. But they were trying to protect him

(07:03):
and he wouldn't.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Have to play. What was the name of that left guard,
am Ding? Yeah, I got no idea.

Speaker 3 (07:08):
Yeah, they signed him back before the season started. But
he's death, he's he's this year's a Chuma ydoga.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
All right, I don't remember for you.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
We've been talking about the Cowboys together since I know
you guys been talking Cowboys for forty years together for
ten years, ten years plus thirteen dogs, How many times
have happened? How does it happen where Tyron Smith is
out or Sean Lee is out and we're like, well,
game over, like one or two injuries, game over for

(07:39):
them to do that, and with Ceedee Lamb, I don't
care if it's the Jets or a pee wee team.
Pretty good for the Cowboys. This is different than it's
been in a long time.

Speaker 5 (07:50):
Yeah, this is one of the most impressive wins I
can remember in a long time for the Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
And I know it's the Jets. I get it.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
The Jets are so terrible. The Jets make anybody look good.
But dude, missing eighty percent of your offensive line, missing
arguably your best player in Ceedee Lamb, on top of
all the struggles you've been having defensively. I just I
thought that the Cowboys were probably gonna lose that game.
And it's just it just it just is another point

(08:18):
of why the NFL is the best sport. You can't
predict what the hell is gonna happen as soon as
something takes place, and You're like, yep, I can predict
future performance based on what we've seen. You realize you
absolutely cannot. You never know how things are gonna unfold.
And man, I I you know, I realize it's just
a win against the Jets and it's still early in

(08:38):
the season, and we might be talking about a six
win team here.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
I don't know, Or are we.

Speaker 5 (08:44):
Talking about a team that figures out their defense and
has a playoff life this season?

Speaker 2 (08:48):
I don't know, but I do know this.

Speaker 5 (08:51):
I feel like, now, after I've seen enough of Shoddy,
I feel like the Cowboys go in weekend, week out
with a coaching advantage on the offensive side. I feel
like they're out scheming their opponents. I feel like it's
an advantage. And I was wrong about it because I
thought they gave Shoddy the job because his cubicle was
closest to, you know, to the empty head coaching office.

(09:11):
But that's a disservice to him, and I own apology.

Speaker 6 (09:15):
Dude.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
He's a really good coach. It's there's a lot to
like so far.

Speaker 6 (09:20):
And I think, you know, part of it is always
relativity when you're comparing it to what you've had, and
I think we all universally felt the same way about McCarthy.
In his shortcomings, there's things he was great at, including
keeping things together when they're going poorly.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
That's the other point of all this.

Speaker 6 (09:37):
Sure all that you know, everything that been said about
the NFL is true unless you take yourself out of
it early in the year, and they haven't. They're two
to two and one after five games, and they have
a lot of reason that you can look at it
and see them getting better. They also have an incredibly
difficult schedule coming up, and you can see it to
where they could play themselves way out of it. But

(10:00):
come what they overcame with the injuries, including their healthy
offensive lineman. If he's not their fourth best, he's their
fifth best. That says a lot and against Remember we
were having conversations last week about hey Man, trap game
the Jets. They're not as bad as people think. They
just keep getting l's. A lot of these games were close,
except for the Buffalo game. Coach got after him. They're

(10:21):
on edge all this stuff, and this is I believe this,
especially with the Cowboys more than anything. For a team
with little margin for air, you cannot get behind in
the turnover battle and they didn't again. It was the
same way like that Chicago game changed when Homie got
the ball taken away from him as they were marching

(10:42):
to drive. Yeah that as long as they can stay
on the other side of that thing, their offense is
good enough to keep them in games.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
And then you see how the game plays out.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
You can do a little brain jumbling and create scenarios
in your head that are really tricking yourself, because it
still is the worst defense in football.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
Yeah to where you can go. Man, they could be
four in one right now, ceedee lambics.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
If you catch is the clock operator runs the clock
out when he's supposed to.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
Like you can trick yourself. The reality is they should
be three.

Speaker 3 (11:11):
And two instead of two two in one. They should
be three and two. And I was looking ahead, and
it's a dangerous thing to do. The Panthers got a
will fight in them. They're gonna be tough next week.
You're playing Cardinals in a few weeks. Still not sure
how good the Commanders are. They look pretty good yesterday,
but I'm still not sure how good they are. You
can just get the Raiders after that. I'm trick in myself,

(11:32):
And the truth is the defense has gotta keep getting better.
And the difference in the defense yesterday is one thing.
It's they gotta turnover. They punched the ball out. That
game was about to be ten to ten or thirteen
to ten at halftime, and then the whole world just
collapsed for the Jets.

Speaker 2 (11:48):
And then they quit. The Cowboys still gave up.

Speaker 3 (11:51):
I think close to I don't know the specific number,
close to twenty plays of over ten yards, including by
the way, the Breese Hall fumble was her song.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Falcon In that punched it out. It's like twelve yard run.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
Yeah, they stopped anybody yet still Yeah.

Speaker 5 (12:07):
And it is the Jets, and and I mean, I
don't know that we'd feel any different if they do
the same thing to Carolina.

Speaker 6 (12:15):
Winning games you are supposed to win or have a
chance to win.

Speaker 5 (12:18):
That keeps in the mix. They're in the mix. They're
in the mix, all right. Coming up next, it's a
weekly weekday update. Christina Carey a little baby Cornbread Ray
has a huge announcement in the world of rock. We'll
find out what it is next.
