“Where should you look to see the Super Beaver Moon tonight? Hint: not down.”In this laugh-out-loud episode of The Ben and Skin Show, the crew welcomes WFAA’s newly crowned Senior Meteorologist Jesse Hawila—to break down the celestial spectacle lighting up the Dallas sky: the Super Beaver Moon. What starts as a science segment quickly spirals into a comedy clinic as Ben Rogers, Jeff “Skin” Wade, Kevin “KT” Turner, and Krystina Ray riff on moon phases, beaver behavior, and the absurdity of eclipse-related pet safety tips.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Old famous been in skin show on a day where
Jerry Jones is making more headlines, even just trying to
make us forget about that loss last night. Maybe the
biggest story in the world. It's what's happening with the
super beaver moon.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
It's that and Quentin Williams. It's all very close, neck
and neck. And who better to come on our show
and talk to us about the super beaver moon than
one of the stars of w fa A senior meteorologist,
Jesse Howelia.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Oh, I got it? I blew the I blew your name.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
This is so embarrassing. I can't believe you would do
that to me. How did I say it? Tell you
how I said it? Why did you add an extra
couple vowels in there? It's okay, it's the most confusing
last name in the world.

Speaker 4 (00:42):
So but the way I get people to remember it
is it rhymes with tequila, so super easy.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
I've said it a million times and if I had,
if I had not been reading it, I would have.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
How did I say it again? You Saidwelia? Y'all, y'all,
you're nervous with his new title. It's over.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah, I gotta be honest, thank you, Christina. I'm a
little intimidated because you are no longer a junior meteorologist.
You are senior meteorologists, walking crotch first through the halls
of w FAA, doing your thing, leading a senior meteorologist.
So what tell us about the tell us about the
big promotion.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
Yeah, so, first of all, thank you guys for having me.
I love being with you too, all of you.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
So with the senior meteorologists role, we need somebody who
will take charge and lead in the streaming space specifically,
so you know, the world of the world is changing
around us rapidly and we're trying to be in all
of these places digitally and on our streaming app So
one of the things I will be doing well, Delcas,

(01:43):
man's the the you know, the big Titanic of w FAA.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
I will still be there.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I'm still gonna be I'll still be on TV, but
I'll take charge in the streaming the streaming world to
make sure things are looking good there.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Well, that's very important, especially on a day like this, Delcas.
On election day, look the hell out everybody, you know
what I'm saying. Plus on top of that, we have
and I guess, is this a I don't know, astronomical
phenomenon or a weather phenomenon or what exactly is the
super beaver moon?

Speaker 2 (02:13):
You know, it's interesting, so it comes from Native Americans
would label the full moon of each month a different name,
and that full moon of each month represented something, so
the beaver moon.

Speaker 4 (02:30):
You know, there are a couple theories that are out there,
but the most accepted one is that the full moon
of November is the is when beavers are their most
active building their dams, and it was also their signal
to set traps to collect fur for the winter, to
collect beaver fur.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Jess is Kevin here, do you know what the difference
is in the beaver and the super beaver?

Speaker 4 (02:54):
Yeah, the super beaver is larger, just by like ten percent.
So you know, most beaver moons not quite as big
and bright, but when it's a super beaver moon, the
moon is a little bit closer to the Earth, so
it appears a little bit bigger and brighter.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
I feel like kt KT's question was a lot like
is a benita fish big?

Speaker 2 (03:15):
It was?

Speaker 1 (03:16):
It felt a lot like that, like what's this guy's deal? Okay,
so now that you are Delcas's boss. What are you
going to have him doing to cover the super beaver
moon for you?

Speaker 4 (03:25):
I thought a lot about this, but I'm building an
explainer on the beaver moon. So are you all familiar
with how the moons go through fate? You know, they
they change, they're either waning or waxing. Correct, Are you
familiar with all this?

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Don't they impact our tides? They do? They do.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
So leading up until this, to this full moon, the
moon is waxing right up until we have a beaver
moon tonight. So we're going to do an explainer on
what the super beaver moon is. Beaver, beaver, beaver. I
didn't say beaber, did I too?

Speaker 3 (03:58):
You did it too?

Speaker 1 (03:58):
You pulled? So wait, so you're you just get up
there and start waxing the beaver moon until it's correct.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Okay, yeah, no, that's exactly right.

Speaker 4 (04:08):
So leading up, so when the moon is full, that's
when it's a beaver moon. But in preparation for the
full moon, the moon currently is waxing.

Speaker 1 (04:16):
It would be hard to have the beaver moon after
the waxing. I would think, yeah.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
Yeah, well and then it starts to wane after that,
so yeah, it does get it.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
You know, it gets a little bit of a break
after that.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Oh so for all of our DFW citizens who want
to see the super beaver moon, where would you say
is the landing strip or time period to really get
a good look at this thing?

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Well, don't look down, That's all I say. You got
to look up? Yeah, right right. That reminds me of
the time. You know, this is this is a real
This is just a quick side story.

Speaker 4 (04:48):
When we had the solar eclipse, you would not believe
the amount of emails we got when people said where
do we look?

Speaker 2 (04:55):
I thought, I know that we live amongst the some
interesting people. But yeah, you know, just look for the moon.
Look for the sun. That's all you gotta do. Just
look for it. I feel like.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
You'd be sweeter than Delcas dealing with these people. I
feel like Delcas would like try to each single person
would get it.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Take a lap, old lady.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Right.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Well, that's not like the one time that even journalists,
like national journalists were running stories on how to protect
your pet's eyes during the solar eclipse. And I couldn't
believe it because I'm like, if your dog is looking
at the sun during the eclipse, that's incredible, right, but
we ran stories on it, which is you know, it's amazing.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Did the we're talking to Jesse Juila, Senior meteorologist at
w FAA. I would have thought that the beaver moon
would have completely disappeared by the early nineties. Has this
been a consistent thing the entire time?

Speaker 4 (05:52):
Yeah, as long as you know, as long as as
long as I can remember, and even before. The beaver
has been around, and it is something that people like
to look at. It's something people like to admire. And
tonight's will be a super beaver mood, so it'll be
a little bit brighter and a little bit bigger. You
should take a look at it tonight. We will as
soon as you tell us where to look.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Jesse, when wait, look, We love you and every time
we have you on it's such an honor and we
can hear the gears turning in your brain going why
did I do this? Every time? And you still come
back for more. We love you, Thank you and congratulations
and much continued success to you.

Speaker 4 (06:30):
I love y'all so much, and it just it's an
honor for me to even be able to talk to
you guys here, so thank you for having me awesome.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Thank you for reading the card we sent you with
those copy points. It's an honor to talk to us.
That's exactly how we wrote it. Thank you, Jesse.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Have a great night y'all too. Jesse, Yeah, got it,
blew it, blew it. Yeah, absolutely blued. I shouldn't have
tried to read it. Pete Delkas this is I know,
so bad. What a great guy.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
We love, love love Jesse Sor, Senior, all Caves Meteorologists
