See number one talk show in theOhio Vlley. This is the bloom Daddy
Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His goal inform, entertain, and
tick people off. The bloom DaddyExperience on news radio eleven seventy WUBVA starts
now. Good Thursday morning to you. It is seven oh six. You're
(00:27):
listening to the bloom Daddy Experience withOtis and Sam right here on news radio
eleven seventy WWVA. Good morning,Otis morning, we are we are on
our own. Yeah, bloom Daddy, you know, happy, happy leap,
your leap, your day. SoI guess with it being a semi
holiday, he decided to, youknow, take the day off. Now.
(00:49):
I heard it Tenny's contract that hehas every every four years. He
has February twenty ninth. Up.It must be nice, it must be
nice. So with with lep leaphere. Honestly, I didn't even think
about it until you mentioned it lastnight. Glad you're up on Glad you're
up on current events. I knowI hate to say that, but you
know you said something. I waslike, oh yeah, yeah, Well
I sent you a text about, hey, why don't we pop something up
(01:11):
for like a pole question. Yeah, just because it sounded interesting and you
were like, oh yeah, that'sgreat. I like that. So you
know, long day and so wellthat's what is the pole question. The
pole question. I don't know ifit's really a pole question. We're just
actually looking for somebody curious because ifyou're born on this day, if you
or someone you know was born onleapier day, the twenty ninth, how
(01:34):
do you celebrate and you know whatbesides celebrating, how does that factor Excuse
me, how does that factor intolike legal documents? Yeah, well,
I mean officially your birthday would beFebruary twenty ninth, So technically for you
to turn twenty one and have abeer, you'd have to be eighty four
(01:56):
years old. That would be yourtwenty first birthday. Boy, that would
get really irritating to explain to peopleover say anybody born today, so they
would have to if to actually betwenty one, he'd multiply that times four
eighty four years. Well maybe Ican have a beer. Maybe that explains
(02:20):
Mitch McConnell on his stepping down.Well, yeah, at eighty two.
Absolutely wanted to get into that alittle bit this morning. To start off
the show. Of course, MitchMcConnell is stepping down as Senate Republican leader,
and he will do that in November, but he has decided to keep
his seat until his term ends, which is in twenty twenty six, which
will take him to eighty four yearsold. He has been in the Senate
(02:45):
for forty years. I think itwas a shocking announcement yesterday, just the
timing of it, the randomness ona Wednesday. But I think people sort
of knew it was it was comingbecause if you have seen recent videos before
the holidays, I mean McConnell lookedbad in appearances. There was one I
(03:05):
forget where he was speaking. Wherehis handler I guess you would call her
or assistant had had to stop andkind of pull him away from the cameras
and say, you know, shemade some sort of excuse for him.
But he was almost like to goback to a subject we had earlier this
week, almost like an AI thatwas on the glitch, like you could
tell things were not sparking. Hewas like an Internet video loading, yes,
(03:30):
like buffering, Yes, Yeah, that's a good way of putting in
ye. He just I think partof it is he's had these like little
mini blackouts, and I think that'swhat they. I mean, I can't
I can't come up with a betterterm for it. But he'd be in
the middle of a sentence and thenall of a sudden he would just freeze
up and then blink, and thenlike twenty or thirty seconds later, he'd
(03:51):
just be right back where he was. Yeah, and so is that a
glitch in the matrix or is thatwith Mitch McConnell. I mean, I
mean that's what the main was about, wasn't it. Yeah, basically,
I mean, it's kind of weirdwhen you see stuff like that and then
all of a sudden, it makesyou think, well, the thing,
well again, the thing that wasso crazy is, like you said,
you could see the freeze, likethe eyes would glaze over, and then
(04:15):
he would like he didn't blink. It wasn't even like he stopped talking.
He completely froze. Well, Ithink part of it is, you know,
my parents are both eighty three, okay, and you know there are
certain things that I mean, they'reboth they're both fine, but there's certain
things that that you kind of seeyou slow down, they slow down,
(04:40):
or maybe maybe they don't hear you. As well. Maybe they don't see
you, maybe they don't comprehend whatyou're saying. Sometimes they might, you
know, they lose their train ofthought and then they kind of freeze up
a little bit. And it's notyou know, it's not anything that's going
to cause any problems, you know, in everyday life. But it's just
when you have somebody that's that's Republicanleader of the Senate, right and he's
(05:01):
freezing up, then you need somehelp. And you know, you said
he's been in there for forty years. Yeah, you know, age limits,
term limits. I mean you're ifyou're a senator, your terms are
six years? Okay? When whenis enough enough? Do you put a
three years? Now? I understandlike if you're in a House of Representatives,
it's a two year term. Youknow, we only let the president
(05:25):
go in for eight you know, where do you draw the line is do
you do twelve for senators or doyou do maybe eighteen like three terms max?
Do you do like five or sixterms for a senator? You know,
I mean a congress person that youknow that's getting elected every two years.
There has to be something there well, And like you mentioned age limits,
(05:45):
you know, nobody. This isnot knocking on people as they age.
That is not That is not thepoint of this conversation. No,
it's to say, you know,at a certain point, like we've said,
you slow down. I mean touse my grandmother as an exam,
Well, she used to call meTracy, who is my cousin? You
know things like that happened. Yeah, probably, but you know, but
(06:08):
that is what eventually happens is andit's going to happen to all of us.
You're going to slow down. ButI mean President Biden has been taking
this knock his entire presidency so far. Is his age, which is currently
eighty one. If he wins again, he'll be eighty six years old,
close to eighty seven when his secondterm went end. Trump is seventy seven.
(06:31):
Nancy Pelosi, who has been there, she's eighty three. Diane Feinstein
was ninety when she passed last year. Well, I mean look at strom
Thurman out of South Carolina. Imean he was still a senator to one
hundred years old. Yeah, therehas to be a point. First of
all, how effective are they howmuch do they attend? And the event
(06:55):
if you're in that position at eightysome years old. Why do you want
to be doing it? Well? That don't you want to have a retirement
like I mean once you rather justlike sit in your I mean, I
understand some of these people are justdriven. I mean it's all about ego
for a lot of them. Andyou know, I just I mean I
don't get it. I mean Ithink people that look at you know that
(07:15):
are in their seventies and they say, you know what, I think,
I'm just gonna walk away. Yeah, I've had enough. You know,
I'm gonna go how much time doI have left? Right? And am
I gonna what? Don't I justenjoy it? I mean, I hope
I live to one hundred, andI hope I have twenty five more years
left. But you know the bottomline is, let me enjoy that twenty
five years. Yeah, you've givenyour energy, you've given your work,
(07:40):
You've given your time to serve yourcountry and your state that you're representing.
Do you not want and does yourfamily not want time with you if you
retired? And do you not wantit to be quality time? You don't
want it to only be when you'reyour bedridden or whatnot, But when you
get to be in your eighties oryou're late set and your nineties at this
(08:01):
point for some of them, howwell are you representing the people that put
you in office? How up andcurrent on situations are you? I mean,
we joke that, you know, the younger generation is we mentioned this
yesterday, that they're so up ontechnology and you know, you got to
(08:22):
call your twelve year old niece ornephew to come fix your computer because they're
so good at that, or showyou how to use TikTok because that's their
world. Imagine the separation of technology. And you know, eighty three year
old Pelosi, she I'm sure hasan entire team behind her to do that
(08:43):
kind of stuff for her. Butwhat I'm what I'm getting at is the
fact that how how much of adivide is there between these older people serving
and the people that they're serving. The people that they are serving well in
the here's here's where into play peoplethat live in Nancy Pelosi's district and Mitch
(09:03):
McConnell's district. Why are you votingthe men at eighty five name recognition?
Exactly? And that's what we weretalking about, you know, we were
talking about elections, you know, prepping for the show, and one of
the big things was was name recognition, and a lot of times, honestly,
people just don't like change. They'recomfortable, so that's where they haven't
(09:24):
done anything to screw it up.So why I vote for somebody else.
Yeah, we're going to talk aboutthat a little bit more. But when
we come back in five minutes,we're going to go over some local news,
including results of the big announcement lastnight last night of the CVB survey
about the former wheeling in right downthe street from us, So stick with
us, we'll be back. You'relistening to the bloom Daddy Experience with Sam
(09:45):
and otis right here on news Radioeleven seventy WWVA. Good Thursday morning,
(10:15):
at seven twenty one. You're listeningto the bloom Daddy Experience with Sam and
otis right here on news Radio elevenseventy WWVA. Before we get into some
local news, want to do someyou know, house house cleaning if you
will, So just want to remindeverybody give us a call sixty two four
eleven seventy if you want to chimein on our topics today. Earlier we
(10:37):
were talking about Mitch McConnell and andage limits in politics. So if you
want to come on a comment onthat, please give us a call,
or of course you can text usat three zero three eighty two and start
the message with bloom Daddy. Butwe do have a text came in right
at the end of our segment andit says good morning. Notice and he
says, I'm not sure you arewith regard to time, because I'm listening
(10:58):
on the stream. He says,And why do these old ass elected officials
want to be in office? Mybelief is because they're crooked, no good
effing dogs. Enjoy your day, well, right, And that's from Jason,
straight and to the point, straightand to the point. And in
a way I think he's right becausehere's you know the other you got to
(11:20):
look at like Nancy Pelosi when shewent into the Congress. You know,
she had a certain amount of money. I mean, you don't go into
that and not have money. Butlike her, her wealth has like quadrupled
since she's been in office. Itmight even be more than that. Conveniently,
Yeah, so I mean they arethey're in it for the money as
well. Well. It's that alongwith we forgot one word power. I
(11:45):
think power is a big part ofthis also because once it's almost once you
get a taste of that forbidden fruit, you have so much power, connections,
money's coming in, you don't wantto walk away from that. But
then we also, you know,we got an email from Randy about all
we wait a second, Well, let's do the call first. We got
we got an email, but let'sgo to the caller first. Okay,
we got flip top. Good morning, FlipTop. What do you got to
(12:09):
say, morning, guys? Uh, just to comment on why people keep
electing guys like Urdle's the turtle downin Kentucky. You know, name recognition
does have a lot to do withit, But I would guess that most
of the people that vote are ofan older uh demographic anyway, and they
(12:33):
are gonna identify more with the candidatesthat are older. Mitch McConnell's going to
have a staff that helps him withhis you know, questionable skills on electronic
media and stuff like that, sohe doesn't need to worry too much about
that. But my guess would bere a combination of name recognition and the
(12:56):
fact that the demographic that votes mostlyin this country old. Yeah, that's
a good point. That's that absolutelygood point. And it's interesting because one
of the biggest demographics that is thatare that's mentioned when polling is the younger
demographic, but they're not represented bythis older demographic of leadership, like FlipTop
(13:18):
just pointed out, Hey, thanksfor the call, flip Top, a
good day. Well, and Ijust I looked up a recent poll seventy
nine percent of Americans' favor age limitson on leadership, so that the you
know, but the old people aren'tgoing to put him in. That's the
thing they they have to. Ithas to be introduced into either Congress or
the Senate, and like they're gonnaand they're not gonna they're not gonna cut
(13:41):
their own throats, right, Yeah, they're not going to fire themselves basically.
So anyways, let's let's switch gearshere and let's go to do you
want to get to the email?Oh? Yeah, the email. I'm
sorry, I'm sorry, Randy, the email. So one thing Randy points
out is that, you know,a lot of these are puppets for for
big business and the money that's behindit. So that's a good point that
(14:05):
he's making that if they have controlof the person holding the seat. The
big business, they have control ofeverything. So that's a really good point
made by Randy. So we'll continuethis conversation on age limits. Probably in
the next hour we'll go back tothat, but right now I want to
get into some local news and followup two things here. We're gonna follow
(14:28):
up on a story that we hadat the end of last week out of
Belmont County about a baby who ingestedan opioid. You remember this conversation,
don't you. It is well, information has come out that it was a
one year old girl and that thedrug that was ingested was fentanyl. And
that's terrible, absolutely terrible. Butthat piggyback's on what happened in Jefferson County.
(14:50):
They are investigating the death of achild in Mingo Junction. This was
a two and a half year oldboy who was believed to be in cardiac
arrest. The child was taking toTrinity Medical Center where he later did die.
Tests revealed cocaine in his system. The mother is being held at the
county jail on child endangerment charges. These are this is two in two weeks
(15:13):
of very small children getting their handson narcotics. This is disgusting. I'm
all in favor of you know,we worry about our pet population, you
know, because they just run rampantand you know they just continue to breed
and cause problems. Yep. Well, you know you have to have a
test that you have to take atest to have a driver's license. You
(15:33):
have to take a test to havea pilot's license. You don't have to
have tests to be a parent.Yep. And these people that are in
charge of you know, that dothings like this should automatically be should have
their birthing rates eliminated. There areyou you go to adopt a pet from
a shelter or a lot of thesedifferent organizations that we have, you have
(15:56):
to go through all of these checksand balances to adopt a a dog or
a cat. Used to be youjust went and got one. Yep.
But anybody can have a child, and unfortunately there are people out there that
should not, and this is theresult. There's a lot of them.
There's a lot of this that happens. Again, the fact that this has
happened twice in two weeks is it'sa horrible statement about where we're going here
(16:19):
locally. And then just real quicklyresults of the survey last night for the
Wheeling Gateway Center. Of course, this is going to be in the location
of the former Wheeling in the toprespondents of topics call for food and beverage
options, outdoor and recreational experiences, and then also retail and shopping. One
(16:40):
thing that came out of this fortytwo hundred people responded to the survey,
which is fantastic. So we'll getinto this a little bit more, but
we got to jump to a breakin six minutes. When we come back,
we're gonna be talk. No,we're gonna be back in five minutes,
and we're gonna be talking the border. So stick with us. We'll
be back. You're listening to theBloom Daddy Experience with Sam and Otis on
news Radio elone seventy WWVA. Lookat Otis just beep off and over there.
(17:37):
Hey, thank you for joining uson your Thursday morning. It's seven
thirty six, your Thursday, LeapYeer Day morning. You're listening to the
Blue Daddy Experience with Sam and Otisright here on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Speaking of Leap Year. Of course, I got a question for you,
Otis Okay, what are leap yourbabies called? There's there's tony No
(18:02):
quarters, they're called quarters. No, No leapers or leaplings, leaplings,
leaplings. I think I like leapersbetter. And wasn't there a TV show
called Now Those Sliders? It's evenclose. And February twenty ninth is not
really illegal day a little bit ofsax four years. So if it's not
(18:25):
illegal day, then does it actuallyshow up on your paycheck? Again,
if anybody was born or you know, somebody born on the twenty ninth,
let us know, because we wantthese questions answered. These are these are
questions inquiring minds want to know. That would be so odd to have your
birthday every four years. So,speaking of that, February twenty ninth only
comes around once every four years, just like one other day. Today is
(18:51):
February twenty ninth, leapier Day.Once every four years, we get this
special day to waste time on nonsensethat we'll have no measurable impact on our
daily lives over the next four years. Or maybe I'm thinking of election day.
Have a great leapier day. Thereyou have it, Well, two
(19:11):
candidates are spending their leapier day atprobably the location of the number one topic
that's going to be affecting the presidentialelection this year. And of course I'm
speaking about the border today. CurrentPresident Biden is going to be visiting Brownsville,
Texas, and former President Trump isgoing to be visiting Eagle Pass,
(19:34):
Texas, which is one of themore volatile areas along the border when it
comes to illegal crossings, and EaglePass has kind of become the go to
reference for Texas with this illegal immigrationsubject, and of course that's where Texas
Governor Greg Abbott has made many references, many appearances the bus bussing of illegals
(20:03):
started from the Eagle Pass location. So the fact that Trump is going there
and making that his stop, Ithink says a lot as as opposed to
Brownsville that you haven't heard that mentioneda lot in this conversation. Well,
I think I'll be interested to seeon the evening news what the optics are
for both for both is is Biden'soptics going to be like it was the
(20:27):
last time he went to the border, where they just basically cleaned everything up
and exported every illegal or immigrant orhomeless person off the streets, and they
cleaned it up and it looked likea movie set that was just done.
Yeah, or are they going todo are they going to actually have the
people on the streets that are supposedto be there giving gave him an ice
(20:48):
cream home at the end, heneeds to stop with the ice cream cone
stuff like, it's not it's notfunny, it's not cute anymore. The
border, we've taught again, thisconversation is going to go on and on
and on. There are so manythings that are wrong with the border.
Have given you stats multiple times.I mean, currently the amount under the
Biden administration timeframe, seven point fourhave come across the border illegally in the
(21:14):
fiscal year of twenty twenty three, two point four million in a year.
And if you think about seven pointfour million, that's roughly thirty six states
in the Union's population roughly, ifnot more so, those numbers are staggering.
And if you look at the countries, I mean, countries like Brazil,
(21:36):
Kazakistan, Ecuador, China. Chinais the big topic right now.
The men of fighting age from Chinathat are coming across the border. Where
this is going and where this istaking us is scary. It's very very
very scary. The thing that's interestingif you pay attention and you listen to
a lot of the spokespeople for theborder authorities with the unions, they say
(22:02):
that the border was more secure underthe Trump administration than the Biden administration.
And honestly, if I lived ina southern border state or was a border
patrol agent, the fact that Bidenis making a visit at this point in
time basically for a photo op,it's too little, too late. I
mean, you've missed the boat,You've missed the bus. So Biden did
(22:25):
put restrictions on the border. Heis allowing only five thousand people a day.
Oh well, multiply that times inthis year, three hundred and sixty
six days and see what you get. Right, Okay, I give credit
to Speaker Mike Johnson. Howse SpeakerMike Johnson, because he is holding Biden's
feet to the fire. He issaying Biden wants. What he wants is
(22:48):
he wants an election year victory.By that, you know he wants he
wants Congress and then to pass thisborder bill, which it's going to have
all this other crap in it forIsrael and for Ukraine and everything else,
it's not about the border, It'sabout a political win. Mike Johnson is
(23:08):
holding his feet to the fire, saying, look, you got rid of
policies that worked with an executive order. You can put the policies that worked
back in with an executive order.Quit using Congress as your whipping post.
Yeah, is your scapegoat? Isyour scapegoat? Well, the other part
of this, and we mentioned thisyesterday. You brought this up saying,
(23:30):
you know the fact that other newsorganizations are now starting to cover it and
a lot more people are starting topay attention to this crisis that the border.
Because what is happening is what wesaid would happen about six months ago
when we said, once this startsaffecting northern states and the people in northern
States, we're going to hear moreabout it. The southern states that have
(23:51):
been dealing with this for twenty fiveyears, that's their problem for us up
here in the north. Don't youknow it doesn't touch us. It doesn't.
It's not a bad thing. Butnow that the crime is starting to
spike, when you look at whathappened to the nursing student in Georgia,
the murder by the Venezuelan illegal immigrant. When you look at the two year
old child in Maryland where Salvadorian illegalimmigrant is being charged with the murder of
(24:17):
this two year old. A Honduranillegal immigrant is being charged with the rape
of a fourteen year old girl atknife point. In Louisiana, a Venezuelan
illegal immigrant was a rested in connectionwith a sexual assault on a minor.
In Virginia, a Hondoran illegal immigrantis charged with multiple counts related to child
pornography. And listen to the statesVirginia, Virginia, Maryland, so again.
(24:41):
Now it is making its way intomore of the national media, and
more people are discussing it, andmore people are starting to get angry and
start to face the problem that hasescalated under the Biden administration because it is
now starting to affect citizens in theNorthern States well, and it's also being
(25:03):
brought to the forefront that these peopleare illegals. It is making instead of
making just local news, it's makingnational news. Yes, and that's when
it's gonna that's when it's going tomake the impact. They were buried.
The national media was burying these storiesfor the last three and four years or
you know, maybe they'd get oneor two a year, and if it
was a big one, right,But I mean, if you were talking
(25:26):
just one murder in say Waukegan,Illinois, it's not going to make national
news. It's going to be local, it's going to be regional, it's
not going to be national. Nowthey're taking these national stories because guess what,
they're fed up with the border toowell. And these are not small.
These are not you know, notthat breaking and entering or or stealing
(25:48):
a snicker from a convenience store isn'ta crime. But this is murder,
this is rape. These are highlevel crimes that are being committed against American
citizens and American children, and thatis starting to put a spotlight on the
problem. And if you know anythingabout you know, I've had some stuff
some gang training in the MS thirteenthat's come out of Central America. That
(26:11):
gang is a They're nasty, theyare absolutely horrible. There's like no conscience
whatsoever. Well they're beyond that, yeah, yeah, because they're the ones
that are cutting the heads off andusing them as soccer balls, and they're
you know, they're dismembering bodies andthey're doing all that and it's just it's
it's actually sickening. And if theydo, and if people think that this
(26:32):
isn't coming across the border, you'vegot your head in the sand, because
it is. It absolutely is.And we talked about fetanyl affecting in a
high Valley child in the last break. So it is happening. It is
happening in our own backyard, andit is coming closer and closer every day.
So stay diligent, and you gotto pay attention. Five minutes we'll
be back. We're going to betalking local and we're gonna be talking about
(26:55):
the McClure Hotel because I have somethingI want to bring up and get your
thoughts on it, Otis, becauseit's beginning to really perturb me. So
stick with us. You're listening tothe bloom Daddy Experience with Sam and Otis
right here on news Radio eleven seventyww V, A seven fifty one on
(27:30):
your Thursday morning. Here on elevenseventy WWVA. You're listening to the Bloom
Daddy Experience with Otis and Sam.So before the break, I mentioned this,
the McClure Hotel. I've got I'vegot a bit of a beef.
I want to bring up your voicejust went you went the Moor Hotel.
Yeah, it was, it was. It was like you got excited about
(27:52):
it. So your voice got alittle high. I'm waking up. Yeah,
I'm finding my I'm finding my groove. I just have been. It
was just like, wow, thatwas you get a little excited. So
have you been down Market Street Streetrecently? The portion that is open again?
So I'm coming up, you know, because you're going north, so
coming up market. I have notbeen, but I've been on Twelfth Street
(28:15):
looking down and so on and soforth. Okay, So the McClure has
been a big topic recently with thewhole Roxby incident and then the former ownership
taking it back over after that beingshut down because of the boiler. Right
now it's back reopen. I heard, oh is it? That's what I
heard yesterday. Okay, I've notheard that they do, but they I
would say this. I don't knowif they're open, but they did get
the boiler issue fixed. From myunderstanding, that's what somebody told me.
(28:38):
Okay. So the current the currentpresident of the company. The company is
FA Management Corporation. Her name isFrancis Gary, and this is a Missouri
based company. Now this may seemas a tiny issue, but if you
have walked or drove past the frontof the mcclaur recently and noticed the flags
(28:59):
over the entrance, so you knowhow the hotel has that like kind of
drive up entrance and this that there'san American flag and there's the State of
West Virginia flag. Okay, andthey are. The State of West Virginia
flag is like barely there anymore. It's morn and tattered. And that's an
understatement for that one. That's betterfor the American flag, the West Virginia
(29:21):
state flag, it's just like astrip of material left. At this point,
I understand that the hotel has gonethrough some issues. I'll buy you
flags. A good flag on Amazonis between twenty and forty dollars for either
of them. If you're not goingto I'm sorry. It's the flag.
It's the United States flag. Ifit's not going to be a a good
(29:45):
standing flag, don't put it up. Just take it down. That's just
as far as I'm concerned. Lazinessand disrespectful, I mean, that's just
a whole that's a whole other conversation. But it's a terrible look. I
think a lot of people, especiallyyounger people, that they don't they don't
have that respect and they don't theydon't get it. They just look at
the flag as it's okay, theflags, they're a big deal. And
(30:07):
you and I are two different people. I mean, we we agree that.
You know, look, once theflag starts to fade and starts to
sotion where and tear, that's what'sgoing to happen when you have it out
in the weather. I'm sorry, okay, whether it's wind, sun,
whatever, that's all going to happen. Retire the flag, yep, and
put a new one up, ordon't put one up at all, exactly.
(30:29):
And that was that was my point. That was that's what I was
getting at. And there are manyorganizations in the valley that I don't know
about state flags, but for thefor the American flag, they will they
will take it. They will properlydispose of it or retire it. I
know. I believe it's Altmeyer hasa flag thing that they do with their
(30:49):
veterans where it's buried in the casket. There are many ways, but you
know, wheeling is going through alot of changes. And I and I've
brought this up before, there area lot of outside entities that come in
two Wheeling buy property and do nottake care of it. And that has
been going on for thirty plus yearslonger now, right, and again I
(31:14):
understand it's just flags, but it'sjust a terrible look. It just adds
to the unattractiveness that is downtown Wheelingcurrently. Well, it's not that hard
of a fix. And you know, you could probably call your local legion
yep, you know in Wheeling that'sPost one. I'm sure if you can't
(31:34):
get ahold body that anybody there,I'm sure you can call one of the
other legions that are nearby and theywill come get your flag. They will
dispose of it properly. They mayeven give you a new one, who
knows. I mean, there areorganizations that will give you flags, right,
So, I mean it's not hard. And besides that, you have
a you know, you have expensesat the hotel. Understand what like you
(31:59):
said, what's forty dollars, gogo go get a forty dollars flag and
hang it up, right, It'sjust and make sure your flag's American made
know about one made in China. That's a pet peeve of mine. Yes,
yes, that's true. But againit's just it's disrespectful of the flag.
It's a bad look and it's notit's not a huge investment. I
(32:21):
mean, and here's the other sideof it. The mclaur Hotel is an
incredibly historical landmark for wheeling and inthe country. Yeah, how many presidents,
presidents Kennedy was there. Kennedy wasthere. I mean, you know,
just in general, you know thehistory of it, the political history
of it. You should have that. You should have a crisp, clean
American flag. So manager of theMcClure or President Francis Gary, do something
(32:45):
about the flags. I mean, come on and listen, if you're if
you're a business and just go outand look at your flag. Yeah,
just I mean, maintain it.That's all. It's not hard. Now,
if you invested in it once, you can invest in it again.
Should get two years out of aflag, I would think probably, I
mean, because the sun's gonna fadeit that you're you're never gonna you're never
(33:06):
gonna get away from that. Andwe get we get crazy wick good wind
around here. That's going to beatthem up and like you said, make
them tattered. But again, mywhole point was I was driving down there
the other day and I just thought, that just looks awful. That just
looks terrible. Fix it, fixit or don't put it up at all.
Well, here's the thing. Whendid they paint When did they paint
(33:28):
it? Like a year and ahalf agaar, maybe a little longer,
two years ago. It right aroundwhen Jeffrey Morris took it over, So
whenever that was so, I thinkit is about two years. I wonder
if they were in the same statethen, because you would have had the
ladders at the time to get tothe flags. Maybe it's maybe the best
Virginia. But again, you knowwith weather and everything else. He knows,
yeah, and they don't last thatlong. Again, just driving through,
I thought, man, that's aterrible look, absolutely absolutely terrible look.
(33:51):
So want to remind everybody reach outto the text line three zero three
eight two. We want to hearfrom you about term limits or age limit.
It's when it comes to our politicians. So again, three zero three
eight two is the text line orphone number one eight hundred six two four
eleven seventy top of the error comgoing on eight o'clock. But in eight
minutes when we get back, weare going to go back to the conversation
(34:15):
about age limits but also term limitsfor our politicians. Again, we want
to hear from you one eight hundredsix six two four eleven seventy or text
us see three zero three eight two. That's a lot of numbers at once,
and it has to have bloom Daddyyet and it has to yes,
started off with bloom Daddy, sowe'll be back. You're listening to the
bloom Daddy Experience with Samon Otos righthere on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA,
(34:57):
se number one talk show in theOhio. This is the bloom Daddy Experience.
Your host bloom Daddy. His goalinform, entertain and tick people off.
The bloom Daddy Experience on news Radioeleven seventy WWVA starts now. Welcome
(35:21):
back on your Thursday morning. Itis eighth seven. You're listening to the
bloom Daddy Experience with Otis and Samon news Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Before
we get back into the age andterm limit conversation for our politicians, wanted
to recap. I was talking aboutthe American Flag at the McClure Hotel in
the West Virginia. Flag got someresponses on the text line of course three
(35:45):
zero three eight to two started offwith bloom Daddy. One person mentioned Boy
Scouts of America they will do somethings with the American flag. There's no
explanation on what exactly they do.You can read an organization. Yeah,
you can reach out to them. And then also all my our funeral homes
they have their retire your flag andwhat they do is you bring your old
(36:06):
glory to any of the funeral homesand they will put it with veterans and
it'll be dignified and it'll be usedin a ceremony. So just two things
that can be done with the Americanflag. Thank you for reaching out and
letting us know about that. Butwanted to kind of go back to our
one of our first conversations of themorning, the age limitations on our politicians
(36:31):
and our leaders, because Mitch McConnellhas announced that he is going to step
down as Senate Republican leader in November, but he is going to keep his
seat until his term ends, whichis in twenty twenty six, which will
take him to forty years in theSenate, and he will be eighty two
years old at the time. Yeah, actually would be forty two because it's
(36:52):
a six year term. Okay,I'm sorry, forty two years in the
Senate. Yeah, yeah, becausehe's any I think he's in his fortieth
now, right, Yeah, that'sright. So that brought to the forefront
age restrictions and also term limits. So just to give you some other leaders
in their ages, Biden is eightyone, and of course he has been
taking criticism his entire career, wellcareer but currently presidency for his age and
(37:17):
cognitive abilities. Trump, who isseventy seven, Pelosi who is eighty three.
Feinstein was ninety when she passed, and then Iowa Center Grassly or Gracely,
I'm not exactly sure how to sayItstly is ninety, and then you
had strom Thurman in there. Therewas one hundred. Right. In a
recent pull, seventy nine percent ofAmericans do favor a maximum maximum age limit.
(37:44):
So this is something that has beenbrought up, you know, time
and time again, but the samepeople are still in their seats, in
their positions, and they're just gettingolder. So it's becoming more and more
prevalent in conversation. Well, andI think one of the things we touched
on is the fact that the peoplethat have to make the change either forms
or age limits are the people thatare in office. And they're not going
to cut their own throat. Well, they're not going to fire themselves,
(38:05):
right, and that's what it boilsdown. I mean, and you're not
really firing. But here's here's whatyou can do. I mean, you
look at Joe Biden. He wasin the Senate for how many years?
He was vice president for eight,he's president for four. So it's not
like you can't stay in politics, you see, you know what I mean.
So, but what I think ifyou were a senator, your president
has eight years as far as maximum, okay, and they can never run
(38:30):
again, so they can't. Likeso once you do your eight years,
you're done. Like Obama couldn't runagain. Bush couldn't run again. They're
done. But they What you coulddo is if you're a say you're a
member of Congress, that's a twoyear term. You put a ten year
term limit, that's five terms. Then if you want to run for Senate
or if you want to run forpresident, or you want to run for
(38:50):
another office, go ahead, youknow, and then if you sit out
two years, if you want tocome back, you can come back.
I don't. I don't, butI think you have to. They're there
has to be some sort of changein new blood put in there at some
point in time. Well, becauseI mean when you're eighty three, eighty
four, eighty five years old,and further, for some of these people,
how effective are you how I meanjust attendance wise, how many you
(39:15):
know throughout the week? Do youset? Do you show up on the
Senate floor? I mean, howeffective are you? How are you current
with the younger generation of voters? How on top of things are you the
direction that the country is going inthe eyes of the younger voter, and
(39:36):
how familiar are you with their wayof thinking? But as a caller pointed
out earlier, they're not voting forthese older people, the younger generation.
But we have to have younger blood. We have to have different ways of
thinking. The idea is yeah, and on both sides of the aisle too.
That's the other thing. It hasto be on both sides. It
(39:59):
can't just be younger Republicans and olderDemocrats or vice versa. It has to
be on both sides. Well,be careful what you wish for, because
sometimes when you go younger, youget idiots like AOC. That is true,
so true. I mean, let'slet's let's let's let's be careful what
we wish for. I don't wanta whole congress and democratic AOC god,
(40:22):
you know. I mean you haveto have somebody that comes in and counter
counterbalances that, right, whether it'sa Democrat or a Republican. Right.
Well, and and again it goesback to like we've mentioned with Biden,
the cognitive ability. You mentioned her. You know, my grandparents they were
oh gosh, my grandfather was eightyseven, I believe when he passed.
My grandmother was in her eighties andshe always called me by my cousin.
(40:45):
There's there's you know, as weage and it's gonna happen to you and
I yeah, I think it alreadyhas. It was well for me,
it's starting certain things. Yes,you're gonna start calling me like Bobby Seux
or something. But you know, you mix up names. You walk into
a room and you forget why youwalked in there. Oh, that happens
to me. I have been doingthat since I was ten. You know,
I mistakenly put my husband's folded underwearin the freezer one time. Nice
(41:08):
have no idea why they went.Always a good one after I folded,
anyways, But my point is thingsstart to deteriorate, and when we're talking
about these positions of leadership and politicaloffices that are making the laws of the
land, and you have to youhave to know why you're there, like
(41:30):
you have to know why you walkedinto that room because you're a senator,
you know, and we can't.And again it's not agism. We're not
trying to right because as you getolder, you get wiser and you learn
from your mistakes and you've probably mademore than your fair share of And you
know, somebody that's been in theSenate for say twenty four years, they're
(41:53):
going to have the experience. They'regonna know what's going on. It's not
like you're coming in fresh. Youhave an you know what's going to happen.
There are advantages and disadvantages, ButI think once you get to a
certain time, it's time for newblood and it's time for new ideas,
and it's time because are you representingyour constituents or are you just a Washington
(42:15):
member of this? Are you justa member of the swamp right, Because
that's what happens. You get youget accustomed to being wined and dyed by
lobbyists, you get this, youget that, you know, and you've
lost your core purpose for being there. You like that VIP treatment, sure
absolutely, why wouldn't you? Yeah, that and that that power, that's
the other thing it. Yeah,I mean we see it all the time.
(42:37):
And then you know, we're sodivided right now. I mean you
look at you look at things thathave united the country, and I mean
you have you know, you goback to nineteen forty one and you got
Pearl Harbor, and you have youknow, nine to eleven, and you
have these things that unite our country. And we almost, I mean,
I hate to say that, youalmost need something of that nature to unite
(42:58):
us. Again. You don't wantit, you don't want it, but
there has to be something that unitesus because we all are Americans, right,
So when it comes to you know, when you're in when you're in
the military and you're in a foxhole, you don't care if that guy's a
Democrat or republic and you know thathe's got your back and you've got his,
and he's got a good eye rightfor target shooting. Yeah, it's
it's I think a lot of itis perspective too. I think it's the
(43:21):
perspective of the person holding the politicaloffice that depending on your age, you
have a certain perspective on things. And again, like we mentioned, having
a little bit of young blood inthere, it doesn't hurt, It doesn't
hurt. No, absolutely, Idon't want. I don't want a whole
congress full of twenty five year olds, you know, I want. I
(43:43):
want it to balance out with thepeople with experience to help these younger women,
and then it just kind of itbecomes a cycle a mentorship. Yeah,
yeah, because eventually you're going tohave to have this young blood.
Somebody has to take these seats. So we're wrapping that up. But if
you have comments, give us acall one eight hundred and six to four
eleven seventy let us know what youthink should there be term elaments on our
political offices, or of course youcan text us three zero three eighty three
(44:07):
started off our three zero three eighttwo I'm sorry and started off with bloom
Daddy. Let us know. Butwhen we come back, we're gonna hit
some local topics and a little bitof results from the Wheeling CVB survey about
the wheeling in So stick with us. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience
with Samon OTAs on news radio elevenseventy WWVA. It is eight twenty one
(44:52):
on your Thursday Thursday. Leap yourDay, Leap your Day Morning, eight
twenty one. The bloom Daddy Experiencewith Otis and Sam on news Radio eleven
seventy WWVA. So before the break, we were talking political office term limits.
Now I want to let's hit somelocal wanted to remind every not remind
(45:15):
everybody, refresh everybody about a storywe had last week about a young child
in Belmont County in the Shady Sidearea. Was a one year old girl
and they have now determined that sheingested FENTANYLN in the home. The baby
was discovered going in and out ofconsciousness and was taken to a local fire
department. Now they are saying thatthe big the child is out of the
(45:37):
hospital and now in care of relatives. But the relatives, of course are
not the parents, and that leadsme into another story out of Jefferson County
where they're investigating the death of anotherchild. This is the actual death of
a child where a two and ahalf year old boy was believed to be
in cardiac arrest. He was takento Trinity Medical Center where he later uh
(46:00):
did pass tests revealed that cocaine wasin his system. And the boy's mother
is being held at the county jailon child endangerment charges. It's a shame
that we are hearing more and moreof these stories, more and more of
these stories, and and and twodifferent drugs, cocaine and fentanyl, and
fentanyl is it is turning into anabsolute black plague on our citizens and on
(46:24):
our country. And it goes backto one of our earlier topics, the
border. So all of this isall intertwined. This these these these different
things are all intertwined. So we'regonna be talking about the border here a
little bit later. Getting to theGateway Center survey results. Now this was
done by the Wheeling Convention in VisitorsBureau. We had Olivia Littman in a
(46:47):
couple of weeks ago to do discussthis survey, and it wanted, you
know, wanted the opinions and thoughtsof citizens in Wheeling and surrounding areas about
what to do with the the landunder when they tear down the Wheeling in
our neighbors right here, and whatthey're going to put up and what they
(47:09):
wanted there. A lot of therespondents call for food and beverage options,
also outdoor and recreational experiences along withretail and shopping. And that's one that
I would push for retail and shoppingbecause for the people who are going to
live in downtown, and that's oneof the directions they want to tape Wheeling
(47:30):
is downtown living with the you know, the building of the doors right across
the street from us, there's theBory Lofts, there's what is going to
be the Wheeling Pit lofts, theDeFelice that was announced last year. They're
going to be putting apartments. TheDeFelice family's going to be putting apartments down
the street from us. So thereis a big push with the streetscape,
(47:51):
the building of all of these housingcomplexes for downtown living, and I think
the location of the former Wheeling inand what they're going to be bringing there
is is an ideal opportunity to bringin elements that support that downtown living things
like a gym like but on hereit's outdoor and recreational experiences. So that's
(48:12):
what people are asking for. ButI think retail and shopping is a big
portion of that because if you livein a city, you want everything right
at your you know, fingertips, and I think that's part of it.
But I think retail shopping also bringsin the visitors. It also brings in
people from Ohio. Look at whatthe High Lens does, look at what
the Ohio Valley Mall does for Ohio. You bring people for events in shopping
(48:35):
and eating, it'll bring people toyour city. So I think one thing
that is a great example though,of the results of this survey is forty
two hundred people responded. They gotonline, took the time to take the
survey because they wanted their voices heard, and I think that's I think that's
great. People are invested. Peopleare invested in what they are doing here
in downtown Wheeling in the surrounding years. They want to see change, they
(48:58):
want to see growth, and there'spositivity in the air, and I think
that's one thing that has been lackingfor many years in Wheeling is a positive
mindset. Negativity has kind of beenthe the the the vein the feeling.
(49:19):
But I think with these changes,it's also changing the way of thinking and
there's more of a positive outlook onthe changes that are coming. I think
with the area where the Wheeling inis, I think some of the ideas
are good. It's a limited area, so you're not going to be able
to put in, say a restaurant, slash bar and shopping and everything unless
(49:45):
you make it multi level, whichwould be which would be kind of cool.
Okay. The other thing is thereare plenty of empty lots. There
are plenty of empty buildings that arefor sale in downtown Wheeling, one being
the old Wheeling National Bank on MarketStreet across from the Wheeling Pit area.
(50:05):
You know in that area. That'sa huge building. It's a huge building.
It was it was a Wheeling NationalBank for a while. There's been
things in there since Wheeling National Bankhas gotten out. The buildings for sale,
so you could why not make thatlike a little retail, like a
little mini mall if you wanted,so you could go in and get you
know, maybe shoes. You cango in and get some clothes, you
could do it. The problem withthat is you're not going to be able
(50:29):
to compete with the Walmarts and theTargets and and everything else that's out there
because they are buying in such volumethey can that they can keep they can
they can definitely sell cheaper now foodeverybody needs food, and you know,
again, are we going to goto Walmart and get your food, or
Kroger and get your food, orRespects and get your food, or will
(50:50):
you go to like a little kindof like a New York City bodega thing,
so to speak. Whereas again you'renot buying in as much volume,
so the prices are to be alittle higher. The rent downtown is probably
going to be a little higher. You've got to b and o taxes that
you don't have necessarily in the Highlandsor in Saint Clair's Pelt or whatever.
So I mean, there's there's tonsand tons of factors. It's not just
(51:13):
what can you do, there areother factors that come into play. I
think though, when it comes toretail, you have to think outside of
the box, not your traditional soyou've got to think boutiques. I think
that's something because there are shoppers outthere, they want unique and they will
travel for it such similar to CenterMarket. Yes, yes, exactly,
And I think replicating or doing somethingsimilar like look at the success of the
(51:36):
Waterfront and now there's two restaurants inthere, and it's a really interesting concept.
I think that Waterfront Hall Waterfront haulon side, just because people sometimes
associate the waterfront with no no,no, the Waterfront hall. I think
that could be replicated. So justa few things about the survey. Give
us your thoughts. One eight hundredand six two four eleven seventy. What
do you want to see in Wheeling. We love to hear from you.
(51:58):
One eight hundred and sixty two foureleven seventy. In six minutes, we'll
be back. You're listening to thebloom Daddy Experience with Sam and Otis.
We're gonna do a little while leapiertrivia and touch on the border again.
(52:37):
Hey thirty six Thursday morning. Thankyou for joining us. You're listening to
the bloom Daddy Experience with Otis andSam on News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
It's it's kind of a regular Thursdayfor us. It is leap your day.
But besides that, I think Texasis going to have an interesting Thursday.
(52:58):
And of course, if you haven'theard, President Biden is going to
be visiting Brownsville, Texas today alongwith former President Trump, who is going
to be visiting Eagle Pass, Texastoday, And as we've talked about multiple
times and will be continuing to talkabout the absolute crisis that is happening at
(53:19):
our borders. I believe is oneof the most, if not the second
most important topic when it comes tothe presidential campaign for both of these candidates,
and for President Biden to be makinghis second appearance during his term for
basically a photo op. I agreewith the Border Union, who a border
(53:45):
patrol union, who is basically whois saying, you know, it's a
little too late. You've had plentyof time. It has gotten to this
absolutely ridiculous situation under your watch. No matter how you try to spend it,
it happened under your watch. Therehas been issues at the border for
decades. Nobody's arguing that, butit has gotten to this level under your
(54:08):
leadership. Because as soon as youtook office, you revert, you took
back and changed everything that President Trumpdid under his administration, and while he
was president. If you listen tocommentary by Border Patrol agents or presidents of
the Border Patrol Union like Brandon,Judge Judd, or also Art del Queda
(54:30):
who we've had on our show, they say that under President Biden, the
border was the most secure that theyhave seen it in recent history. So
the fact that you know the Bidenis trying to spend it that you know
this isn't all because of him.No, sorry, absolutely, sorry,
but otis do you think it's alittle too late? Do you agree?
(54:52):
Oh? Absolutely? I mean thiswhole thing here is he's trying to He's
trying to get a political victory becausehe wants cong Risk to pass a some
sort of border bill, because thenthat's that's a feather in his cap saying
that, oh look what I didat the border, when all it takes
is a swipe of a pen.We had a caller that called in that
basically said it was either early thisweek or late last week. She couldn't
(55:15):
remember, but there was a plainwhite bus that was over in the Saint
Clairsville, like the plaza where theKroger and the Walmart and the Sam's and
all that is. And this wasup by the Kroger area portion of the
plaza that a plain white bus hadpulled in and basically a busload of immigrants
were dropped off in that area. Now, they weren't sure if they were
(55:37):
there to maybe use the restroom,to maybe shop at Kroger, to get
food on the bus to you know, or if it was just a stopover,
or if they were actually just beingdropped off. They weren't. They
weren't sure, but there was abusload of migrants and a plane, white
bus unmarked. You know, theycould have been on their way to someplace
else, right, and or theycould have been you know, there might
(55:58):
be an influx of roughly sixty immigrantsin the sta well. And again,
here's the thing most people, aswe mentioned when we were talking about this
earlier, for those that aren't livingin the border states, it's not something
that's directly affecting them, but it'sto the point where now the dam has
burst. And with that, withthese illegals being shipped in the Northern States.
(56:22):
Again, a lot of people weren'ttalking about it. But now with
the things that are coming out inthe national media, because media like CNN,
the New York Times, they haveto talk about it now, CBS,
NBC, ABC News. It's notjust Fox News covering it. The
other organizations now have to cover itbecause there are things happening that are repercussions
(56:45):
of the border situation and and thingslike the crime that is spiking. We
saw we've seen the video in NewYork City where a cop was attacked.
We have I mentioned these earlier. The two year old child in Maryland.
Uh, a Salvadorian immigrant is beingcharged with the murder illegal immigrant. Let
me correct myself, a legal immigrantbeing charged with the murder of a two
(57:05):
year old in Maryland. A Honduranillegal immigrant charged with the rape of a
fourteen year old girl. We havethe Georgia murder of the nursing student.
So we've talked about what is happening. We've talked about the people that are
coming across the border, but againwe are now beginning to see the repercussions
of this, and it is crime. It is a strain on the tax
(57:28):
dollars and the taxpayers of this country. It is a strain on where we
can put them. They are nowbeing in there, you know, in
the Chicago airports, they are everywhereat this point My question is, and
Ois, maybe you can tell meif we're shipping them north. Okay,
if Governor and He's made his pointwith the buses, he has made his
(57:49):
point, ship them south, shipthem back. Why do they have to
come up here, ship them backacross the border? Well, because that's
not the policy. No, wecan't do that, you know President Biden
signed into because breaking the law.Well, but that's not the way that
they're looking at it. So youknow, President Biden signed in a limitation
on how many people can come inacross the border in a single day,
(58:12):
and that numbers five thousand. Multiplythat times three hundred and sixty five take
out the leaked day. Okay, that's still one point eight two five million
people in a year. Now,what have we What has President Biden's border
policy done well? In twenty twentyone, it broke a record. In
(58:34):
twenty twenty two, it broke arecord. In twenty twenty three, it
broke a record for the number ofimmigrants crossing the line. You don't think
that there's a problem. Seven pointfour Yeah, an estimated seven point four
have come across the border. Andthat's just the southern border. That number
that's not even talking about the northernAnd it's not just everybody thinks, oh
(58:55):
okay, well they're Mexican migrants,or they're Hondora, or these are Chinese,
these are these are you know, people from former Soviet states, people
from you know, just all overthe world, from basically terrorist states that
are crossing the border. I mean, you're going to have your your your
Central American that are coming across. But you know, it's just it's it's
(59:17):
out of control. Well, andyou mentioned the Chinese. The majority of
those that are crossing that are Chineseare single adult males of military age.
Now let that sink in, singleadult males of military age. And if
you take the timing, get on, get online. And I don't push
(59:37):
TikTok that all. I don't evenhave TikTok. But I've seen videos where
people that live along the border, they go up and down the lines of
these people and they ask them whereare you from? Where are you going,
And it's almost like they have assignments. I'm going to Chicago, I'm
I'm from China, I'm from Turkey, I'm from wherever, and they they
(59:58):
it's like they have assignments of majorcities that they're going to, but pay
attention because again they're all military, single men. There tends to be this
this thought process. When you hear, you know, people trying to get
in our country, you think offamilies that want to have a better life
and a better future for their children. And that is true, but that's
(01:00:19):
not what this has turned into. This is this is taking down a country,
I hate to say this, fromthe inside out and that's what they're
doing. Yeah, China and Russiaare not going to attack us militarily.
They're going to attack us from theinside and make us weak via you know,
ventanyl via, because they're killing offyoung your military age people, that's
(01:00:42):
ei they're killing off. Yep,it's strategic. Absolutely, there is so
much strategy behind what is happening. And again to think that this is not
going to affect us here in theOhio Valley, it's going to We had
a story about Fanna this morning andwe had the caller with the story about
what's what they witnessed in the SaintClairics of apply. Because it is affecting
us and it's going to continue togrow because again it's not only hurting the
(01:01:07):
southern border states, but you knowCalifornia. I read they are oh going
to pay I don't want to missquote, I don't want to say this
wrong, but they're going to givethem health insurance. What happens with the
rest of the country. New York, they're asking for help. Well,
guess what you open the door forthis, you close yourself for sanctuary City.
(01:01:27):
You wanted it, you got it, now you don't want it anymore.
So this will this will be acontinuing, continuing topic conversation. But
today's going to be interesting to seehow it's covered. It's eight forty five
on your Thursday morning. You're listeningto the bloom Daddy Experience with Sam and
otis here on news Radio eleven seventyWWVA. In five minutes, let's do
some Leapier trivia and have some fun. How's that sound, otis? Sounds
(01:01:50):
good? Perfect? Stick with us. Eight fifty one on the Blue Daddy
(01:02:15):
Experience with Sam and otis here onnews Radio eleven seventy w w VA on
your leap yeer day, an extraday this month, so Otis. With
that being said, I have sometrivia for you. Okay, I got
you. I asked you this oneearlier but so who invented who invented it?
Or just like who came up cameup with it? Who started it?
(01:02:37):
Leap Yer, Julius Caesar Nice,I'm impressed, impressive you were you
were googling? No I didn't.I didn't. I have not googled anything.
Okay, fine, I never googled. I didn't expect you to get
that. No. I think Iremember somewhere along the line reading that in
the past. Okay, that someand I can't remember the exact reasoning for
(01:03:01):
it, but yeah, I meanI remember it was it went back that
far. He got the idea fromthe Egyptians. Okay, so the babies
that are born on leap year arecalled leapers or leaplings, leaplings, leaplings,
I think I go leaper. Lotsof people work for free on February
twenty ninth, why, I don'tknow. That's not me. I'm just
(01:03:23):
if anybody from my heart is listening, I am not working for free today.
And some cultures consider it an unluckyday. The Italians say leap year
doom year, and people in Greecedo not get engaged on Leapier Day because
it's bad luck. Okay, takeyour word for it. So it only
(01:03:45):
comes around once every four years, just like one other day. Yeah,
today is February twenty ninth, LeapierDay. Once every four years we get
this special day to waste time onnonsense that will have no measurable impact on
our daily lives over the next fouryears. Or maybe I'm thinking of election
(01:04:08):
day, have a great Leapier day. So Leapyer comes every four years.
Do you know what year? Whatfourth year was? Actually there was a
year that we did not sell therewas no leap year, and that was
the year two thousand. Why Idon't know, but I think I think
(01:04:30):
it's like every hundred years. Soin other words, if the year ends
in the double zero, they don't, you don't there's no leap there's no
leap day. Okay, I'd haveto look that up, but I remember
reading that as well. It wasa jeopardy question. No, I know,
but I because when I you wouldthink, like when two thousand came
around, you're thinking, Okay,it's the fourth year. You know,
it's an Olympic year. That's howyou That's how I think do things.
(01:04:53):
Yeah, And so like in Februarycame around, there was no twenty ninth,
and I'm like, why isn't therea twenty ninth in two thousand and
I remember either looking it up orsomething of that nature. Okay, okay,
well I can maybe do it.I'll do a quick google on that
for you. I said I'd nevergoogle, but I'm going to for you.
Well. And then also today, there is a certain video game that
(01:05:14):
is turning forty years old, andI have to say I still like this
game. It is the iconic Tetris. It is one of those games that
is addicting in Russia. Yep,you can play it on your friends.
The movie about it who starred allMan, I can see his face.
It's I had no idea. Thebackstory to the whole Tetris game. It's
(01:05:38):
crazy. So if you get achance watch it. It wasn't I think
it was an Apple movie, AppleTV movie. Okay, but it's a
I think. I don't know ifit's called Tetris or what it's called,
but it's the way that this gamecame to be. It's a crazy story
and how they fought over it,and the deals they made on Russian soil
and the whole thing. So Tetristurns forty years old. Okay, I
(01:06:00):
have to admit I was wrong.Okay, there was a leap day in
two thousand. Okay, so itsays prepare for a little bit of math.
Years divisible by one hundred, butnot four hundred are skipped. So,
in other words, meaning we skippedleap years in seventeen hundred, eighteen
hundred, and nineteen hundred, butnot two thousand. So the next leap
(01:06:21):
year will skip is twenty one hundred. I don't don't ask me why.
I don't think we'll have to worryabout it. Yeah, we're not going
to see that. Well, atleast I'm not. I'll be the first
person to admit I'm not going tobe here that long we would have to
worry about Yeah, I mean we'rereally not that far away. You're only
seventy six years away. So ifyou live to be if you'd be like
(01:06:44):
that lady in Houston, you mightsee it like one hundred and twenty.
Well, no, there's a Houstonone. When she's the oldest person living
in the United States. How oldis she? Her name's Elizabeth Francis.
She now holds the record at onehundred and fourteen years and two hundred seventeen
days. She was born in Louisiana. In nineteen oh nine, she became
the nation's oldest person following the deathof a one hundred and sixteen year old
(01:07:04):
California woman earlier this month. WowFrancis calls her like her long life a
blessing from God. Wow, she'show many days? Two hundred and some
day seventeen? Said, she's gettingclose to one fifteen, she is,
she's getting real good for her well, and then you you brought this up.
Earlier, during the break out ofSteubenville, a woman is claiming that
(01:07:27):
her Stanley Tumblr, which of courseis the big craze right now, kept
her safe during a shooting and thatthe cup saved her life when a stray
bullet came through her house and ricochetedoff the cup, which was sitting right
in front of her. And sheshared a video on TikTok where she explains
the incident and where the bullet's hitand everything. So again, this happened
(01:07:51):
out of Stupinville. I mean, that's that's crazy, weird, and that
made national news because I actually Isaw well, I actually pulled the story
up and it was on it.It was from a TV station in Dallas.
Dallas. Wow, So but wehad heard it. I heard it.
Well, we were prepping for theshow on Gordon Deal when I was
(01:08:11):
like, did he just say Stupenville. Well, she has three over three
million views already on Yip Talk. That's amazing, that's good. She needs
a deal. Well yeah, well, and that's what they said. You
know, that's a testimonial. That'san endorsement. Absolutely, that's an endorsement
for you. We'll keep you alllive. Just a quick reminder, let
everybody know that the Penguins are onthe ice tonight. You can listen to
(01:08:34):
