Speaker 1 (00:00):
Indeed number one talk show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy, his
goal inform, entertain, and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now, Well,
(00:24):
good morning.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
It is six days in counting from the Big Christmas Day.
Thank you for tuning in the bloom Daddy Experience. Otis
and Sam news Radio eleven seventy WWVA six days away.
So if you are not done shopping, you better get
a move on. If you not started rapping, do not
(00:46):
do what I did and cost yourself about three and
a half four hours of rapping all in one night
last night. And I'm still not done. Otics I am
still not done, and paper cuts my eye. It got
to the point where you know you're cutting with the scissors,
and you start off and you try me anyways, my
(01:09):
OCD kicks in. I try to follow the straight lines
on the wrapping paper, you know, and then about two
hours in it starts to look kind of like the
twisting roads up to West Liberty. My cuts when I'm wrapping,
So the eyes were starting to get a little, a
little wonky, a little glazed over, So don't keep all
of that waiting. I mean, but when it comes to
(01:31):
the Christmas shopping a little bit later we are going
to I'm gonna throw a couple places out to you
that I like to shop here locally during the holiday
season or any time of the year. But a couple
of little secret gems we have here in the High
Valley area. But I may miss some. I don't know
all of them. So on our Facebook page, please, if
you have somewhere you love to shop here locally, please
(01:54):
go and answer the question where do you like to
shop for the holidays? Little local gems. It's right up
on our Facebook page, or of course give us a
call one eight hundred sixty two four eleven seventy because
when you shop local, you support local right here in
your own backyard. But we'll get into that a little
bit later on in the show. First thing I think
otis we should dive into is this sinking of the
(02:17):
funding bill. So, of course House Democrats are not happy
with incoming President Trump. Trump released a statement lambasting the bill,
causing House Republicans to reject it. Now, the bill would
have prevented a government shut down. The White House Press
Secretary cringe Jean Pierre, which we won't have to hear
(02:41):
from for a long time, hopefully here shortly. Republicans need
to stop playing politics with this bipartisan agreement or they
will hurt hardworking Americans and create instability across the country.
I think Americans just want the Biden administration and everybody
(03:04):
that's currently in holding seats just stop. Just stop what
you're doing, and everybody's ready for the new incoming administration.
They do not people do not want to see those
currently in charge to sink this country any further than
they already have. We have sat back and watched over
(03:26):
the past two and a half three weeks Biden doing
absolutely everything he can to push out the door as
much American tax dollars as he wants before he is
shoved out the front door. And the other part of this,
when it comes to the statements of government shut down,
(03:50):
we've heard it so many times as the public, it
doesn't it doesn't really affect anymore. When we hear that term,
it almost it falls on deaf ears. So this this
panic that has tried to that those terms that term
(04:12):
used to incite in folks doesn't really do that anymore.
And when you talk about over a fifteen hundred page
document that they're trying to push through approval, people want
to know what's in it? Now, wouldn't you agree?
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (04:28):
Does people are just they just stop what you're doing?
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Basically, Well, I said this yesterday, and I said, there's
probably some pork in this bill. This is before I
knew anything that had happened, before anything came out. And
you know, there, if you want to pass money to
keep the government from shutting down, then pass them for
the money that you need for that. In this bill,
it also included provisions on healthcare and ethanol fuel, along
(04:53):
with one hundred billion dollars in disaster aid funding, which
I'm okay with that if.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
You know, goes to our disasters.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
But here's the thing, I want to know what it's
going to. Number one? And number two? Why does it
have to be in the same bill? Okay? Second of all,
and then it's there's about the reconstruction of the Francis
Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. And then this is the
best one.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
I know what you're gonna.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
Say, forty thousand dollars pay raise for Congress, you know,
I mean I don't.
Speaker 2 (05:27):
Know, because they've been knocking it out of the part
the passage.
Speaker 4 (05:30):
They haven't had a race since two thousand and nine.
First off, you're supposed to be a public servant, okay,
and I'm not saying that you shouldn't get paid. But
the perks that go along with the job as a
senator or a congress person, they're up there, and you
have other things, you have other modes of income.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
It's amazing how they all become millionaires.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:55):
Well so, I mean, I I you know, I don't
know about you out know what their current salary is.
Let's just let's just say it's one hundred thousand dollars
a year, just for round fig just for a nice
round figure. So you want to bump it up, you
want to give me a forty percent raise, I'll take
that job any day, right, you know, I mean normally
(06:16):
you get like a five, six seven percent raise. If maybe,
if you're lucky, you get a ten percent raise. Maybe
you might get a you know, sometimes you get that
you want to throw in a little bit of cost
of living, like a three percent or a six percent
cost of living. Okay, I'm okay with that forty thousand dollars.
Come on, well, I mean the president only makes like
(06:37):
two hundred thousand dollars a year, you know, so what
can excuse me, what can a senator or a congress
person make? Can't be that high?
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Yeah? Yeah? Well, and and here's here's another point to this.
We have the incoming two names, Ramaswami and Elon creating
you know, the new I mean, if you call it
an office, a committee, doge. And part of why this
(07:09):
has been created, this element has been created to dig
into government spending. And this is a prime example of
what they are going to be doing, how they're going
to be following money just because how all of this
millions and billions and trillions of American taxpayer dollars are
(07:31):
being allocated and going out the front door to god
knows where and how this money is being spent. You
mentioned yesterday. I just I think you said an itemized list.
If people knew what your taxes on your pay stub,
if that was itemized out to where it all goes
to how the government spends it, it would make you sick.
It would make you sick. But here's the games that
(07:54):
the Democrats play, Like I said, using the term government shutdown,
going after Trump saying that, you know, don't break your promises.
It's okay to take a step back and say, we
need to reconsider what we're doing with this money. We
need to take a step back, have a conversation and
(08:18):
make sure the money is being spent the way it should.
And what it cracks me up is how she throws
in there in the quote that the government shut down
will hurt farmers, veterans, and families.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
Well, they throw because it's sensation.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Well, and it's it's the it's a lot of the
voter base that came out for Trump. Those are those
are kind of key hot button hot button terms to
hit on, or or categories to hit on. Here's something
really strange, kind of go from from national to a
little bit of statewide. So West Virginia possibly could have
(09:00):
have four different governors over the course of thirteen days
through the month of January during the transition of everything.
So it breaks down that Governor Jim Justice could take
the oath what could take the oath of office for the
Senate on January third, but because of that he couldn't
hold both jobs as the governor and as a senator.
(09:23):
So then that would put into place State President Craig
Blair becoming acting governor for five days. Then on January eighth,
newly elected Senate President Randy Smith takes office. He would
also become acting governor for five days. Then on January thirteenth,
(09:43):
Governor elect Patrick Morrissey would be sworn into office. So
you do not update the letterhead at the state for
Governor yet in West Virginia. Just a crazy scenario. Seven
sixteen The bloom Daddy Experience salmon Otis News Radio eleven
(10:03):
seventy WWVA. Welcome back, seven twenty one, The bloom Daddy Experience,
(10:29):
salmon Otis News Radio, eleven seventy WWVA. We're gonna mix
it up this morning, of course, bring you some news.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Before we go. In further, a text message, okay from
our buddy Davo.
Speaker 2 (10:42):
All right, Devo, I cannot wait to meet Davo in person, amor.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
So the president makes four hundred thousand dollars a year, okay,
the Vice president two hundred eighty four thousand dollars years
a year, and both Congress chambers they make one hundred
and seventy four thousand dollars a year. So they wanted
to add forty thousand that up to fourteen. Okay, did
they really need that much money? I mean, they're again,
(11:08):
they're public servants, and you know a lot of times,
you know, some of their travels paid for. Some of
it isn't and I get that, and there are some
I'm sure there are some personal expenses, but pretty much
I'm guessing everything's written off.
Speaker 2 (11:23):
When they're in DC. Are they given places to live
or no?
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Think like I think they have to right their own
a townhouse or something of that nature.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Yeah, I just wanted to from their states that they're representing,
if they get some sort of stipend to pay for
some of that stuff. I mean, I'm sure they haven't
paid for a meal at a restaurant for who knows
how long.
Speaker 4 (11:52):
Well, I'm sure they have an expense account too.
Speaker 2 (11:54):
Yeah, that's the word.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
Plus they have they probably have per diem, So I
mean there's there's yeah, there's there's there's ways around things.
So you know, it's it is. I mean I could
find that out.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
Well, And we were talking about the president's salary. Just
just a reminder or lot everybody. I think we talked
about this last week. President Trump once again.
Speaker 4 (12:17):
Will be donating. Yes, his salary.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yes, you won't see that on MSNBC or CNN.
Speaker 4 (12:25):
You may. I mean because it's it's because they don't
look at it. It's that it's that important. I mean,
that's just how they don't. They don't they'll say it.
They'll just say it.
Speaker 2 (12:35):
In passing breeze over it. Yeah, yeah, there's not much
to it. But you know, we're gonna hit on some
some serious news of the day, of course, but you
know we're getting close to the holidays. Uh, we're six
days in counting. We've got the one and only groundbreaking
entertainment phenomenon that is Christmas karaoke tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
As of now, we think we have six competitors.
Speaker 2 (13:01):
Yes, American Idol. You know America's got talent. Are all
envious of what we've been buying.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
Daddy Experience does not have talent.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
I speak for yourself.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
You just have your friends and family call that you
have no talent when it comes to singing.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
I'm really good in an elf voice though, No, we're
not even on that road. Come on. But but with
that being said, we're gonna have some fun today too.
And of course I haven't told you yet we have
more chances to win today throughout the show, so stay
tuned for those, and that is going to be, of course,
(13:43):
the toughest monster truck.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
So you know, I would be remiss if I didn't
mention this because it's kind.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Of is like sounds like deep thought coming.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
No, no, no, it's not it. But I mean I
was kind of waiting just to make sure that these
people were home. Okay, So my cousin Audio Somolas. Oh yeah,
competes nationally and internationally in CrossFit competitions, and the World
CrossFit Championships were held last weekend in Budapest, Hungary.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Yeah, I think you mentioned, yeah, And.
Speaker 4 (14:15):
Just to let people know, she is a graduate of
Wheeling Park High School. She's in school at Wheeling University
at this time, and she brought home the gold in
her age group. She's twenty years old, so I think
it was the women's Junior Championship.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
Congratua.
Speaker 4 (14:29):
And so I mean, if you, if you would see
some of the things that she does, Like even when
I was in shape and athletic and in my prime,
I couldn't do half the stuff that she does. But
she does have a gymnast background and she's been doing
this and she was able to compete internationally with the
(14:51):
help of a lot of local sponsors and you know,
friends and family that you know participated in some fundraisers
for her. So and we're looking forward to next year
and seeing where that.
Speaker 2 (15:02):
Is and well and dedication.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
She's gone the last four years. She's been into I
think Sweden, Norway, Mexico and now Hungary and she's placed
every time she's gone, but it's this is the first
time she's won, got.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
To the top of the podium.
Speaker 4 (15:20):
That's the top podium.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
So well. And I know some people who you know,
they're they're avid, they work out constantly, but then they
try CrossFit and they are the most healthy athletic people
that I know, and they go and they try CrossFit
and they're like, Nope, there's just something about it.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
That you know he had. There's the there's a competition.
There's a thing on the on the on the like
a parallel bar, so you have to do this with
your late kicks. And then then there's the rings where
you have to pull yourself up and then you have
I mean you have to climb the rope from the
sitting position, not use your legs. I mean, there's just
so many different days and it's just like, good God,
I would die.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
And we both each morning when we both show up,
are like, well, okay, we both crawled out of bed
this morning. Yeah, yeah, everything creaked and croked.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
You know, I just look at it and I go,
oh God, that hurts.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Well. Congratulations to her because the dedication that that takes,
not only physically, but the diet, the mental dedication it takes. Gosh,
I couldn't imagine. I can't imagine what that was like.
I'd love to hear what Budapest was like.
Speaker 4 (16:29):
Yeah we can, I'll see if we can get her
in here. She's not much to She's not much of
a public speaker, I'll tell you that. And she's very
soft spoken.
Speaker 5 (16:36):
So just us.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Yeah, nobody's you know.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
But she has like sometimes she'll work with me and
she'll say I'll say, hey, what's going on, how you
how's school going? Good? That's what you get. But yeah,
she's she's uh, just phenomenal. And those are people that
know what she does, you know, the people that have
worked with her in the gym, and I mean she's
(17:00):
kind of like a legend in the gyms.
Speaker 5 (17:01):
Are here.
Speaker 4 (17:02):
Yeah, like when they when people do CrossFit and they
see her work out, it's like, oh good god, we
don't do CrossFit. It is kind of fun. They just
decide no, Yeah, I'll see if we can get from
maybe I'll I'll check with her mom to see if
we can get some permission to maybe share her videos
from Oh yeah, that'd be awesome.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Yeah, to have something raised a couple of them not
that's a major accomplishment. That's something to be very much
proud of. So congratulations to her once again. Question for
today what was your favorite toy you got as a
Christmas gift as a kid? And then what store do
you miss shopping at during Christmas? It's on our Facebook page.
Want to hear from you or give us a call
one six two four eleven seventy. It is seven twenty
(17:45):
eight on your Thursday morning. The Blue Daddy Experience Otis
and Sam News Radio eleven seventy w w VA. Welcome back,
seven thirty six The Glen Daddy Experience Sam and Otis
(18:06):
News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. All right, we are I
want to get everyone involved. We're gonna get a little
nostalgic here how's that sound. Let's get nostalgic. So, and
it's Christmas, so let's do this. Let's talk toys. So
what was your favorite toy you got at Christmas? Or
(18:28):
toys otis? You want me to kick it off or
you want to kick it off?
Speaker 6 (18:31):
True?
Speaker 4 (18:31):
Go ahead?
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Okay, So I have a list here, but I'm gonna
try it. I'm gonna I'm gonna minimize it here. The
first thing I thought of that I absolutely loved getting
as a kid at Christmas. Now, please keep in mind,
I was a kid in the eighties. So my favorite
thing the my little Pony ranch that I received, and
(18:52):
it was like it was kind of like Barbie Dreamhouse,
but it was for my little ponies. And then, of
course I can't be a kid of the eighties if
I don't say the original Nintendo. Unfortunately, it was to
be shared between myself and my brother. My brother ended
up getting the entire ownership of the Nintendo. And honestly,
(19:12):
the only game I was ever good at was Duck
Hunt because I would just walk up to the screen
with the gun and get as close as possible, So
I didn't really build up any skills when it came
to duck Hunt. But those are the first two that
really popped into my head. Otis, do you have any
particular one that really stands out to you.
Speaker 4 (19:37):
I think I've said this before. The one year I
don't know. I think I think I was in the
sixth grade, maybe fifth or sixth grade, and there was
a it was called TCR racing, okay, and it was
called that meant that was total control racing and uh,
(20:00):
before the race car tracks, they always had slots, so
you're you're you always just ran in the in the
the they were in the what do I want to
say that they were in a slot, so they never
never left their lanes, okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (20:19):
So they were kind of like a slide and amusement park.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
They're always just yeah, yeah, so they had a little
thing in there. Then what would happen is this total
control racing was slotless and you could actually change lanes
and do different things. And for whatever reason, that's what
I wanted for Christmas, and I didn't think I was
going to get it, and I ended up getting it,
which I think I played with it for about maybe
six months, and then moved.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
On something new, Yeah, shinier, newer. Yeah, so give us
a call one six two eleven seventy. What is what
is when you think, you know, you think back to
your Christmas as a kid, what's the thing you really
remember under the tree that you just you know, your
eyes lit up and it was just you thought, Santa
is never going to bring it, and there it is
(21:07):
and it's just like the angels sing and the spotlights
there and there is that toy? What is your toy?
As Jane said, she said she was on Facebook, she
received a Shirley Temple doll, which she still displays today.
Shirley Temple, Thanks Jane. We have a call.
Speaker 4 (21:24):
We do. We have our first year competitor, Dave O
on the line. It's going to be in with us tomorrow.
Good morning, Dave, Good morning.
Speaker 6 (21:32):
Yeah, longtime listener, first time carry out here. Love the show, Yes,
looking forward to it.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
Okay, So what do you got?
Speaker 6 (21:44):
You got a toy on a regional audience.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
That's all right, that's all right. What's your toy or
your place to shop?
Speaker 6 (21:51):
Oh? Yes, well both there. As far as the toy,
I was a huge match fuck. My mom gave me
every match box I ever made. Back in the sixties
and seventies, and I mean you couldn't. I couldn't stand.
I knew what they were when they were rapped, because
(22:11):
you know how small and compact they were, and it
was just awesome open them up. But they also made
these little fold out suitcases. That's where like you could
play with the cars. Like there was a city and
a country and an airport and these little Plasta suitcases
would sold out to you know, a city or a countryside.
(22:33):
And I played for hours and hours and hours of
that stuff, and then it all got tossed in the garbage.
Once I grew up, you know, parents worth taking eBay
whatever existence, and you're like going seeing what the prices are.
Speaker 4 (22:45):
Yeah, yeah, amen. I gave all my match box and
hut Wheels cars away to other kids, So.
Speaker 6 (22:53):
I've accumulated a few cents on eBay before. It's expensive
to do that, so it's just a few. But the
favorite place is I've had to be. It was kind
of a triangle there down at Wheeling. So you started
at Stone and Tom and I'll never forget the first
time I saw a Christmas story, I think in nineteen
ninety five or so, and it just blew me away
(23:15):
seeing that department store because it reminded me instantly of
Stone and Thomas. Sure, you know, everybody went shopping dressed
up and the ceiling seemed so high, and the decorations
were just, you know, incredible. So you'd go there beat
the Wilder. But then you'd head down to I forget,
is it wool Wars DC Murphy.
Speaker 4 (23:37):
Maybe GC Murphy was there. There was a Jupiter. There
was probably a Woolworths at one time, but it was
probably before Art. I don't know how old you are,
but I'm fifty eight.
Speaker 6 (23:45):
They were right, I'm sixty one. But it was around yeah,
right past the little hot Dogs.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
Yeah, so that was GC Murphy and then you had Jupiter,
and then you had LS good.
Speaker 6 (23:57):
Right DC Murphy. Now they had all the cheap toys.
You could you know, actually go out there with something,
uh the kick, convince your mom to buy some uh
you know, cheap plastic toy from there, and then you'd
head over to the Seers Building, yep, where he has
all the high quality toys that want for to convince
mom and dad. You had to wait. Hope Santa brought
(24:18):
to those yep.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
That was great, Yeah, it was. It was a good
time back in the day. Yep, all right, my man.
Speaker 6 (24:27):
Say tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (24:28):
All right, Yeah, he talks about it.
Speaker 5 (24:30):
You know.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
The funny thing is like you know when he talks
about like a Christmas story and you see the window display.
So that takes me back to koy Bent's Furniture back
in South Wheeling to this, you know, the buildings still
there and now they have in their window displays they
have like a it's like a secondhand store type thing.
But that was the That was Wheeling's Christmas display. Stone
(24:52):
and Thomas had one. Other stores had one, but koy
Bentz they went like they went the extra mile.
Speaker 2 (24:59):
Well that's the one thing on our windows here out
on Main Street for our other radio stations that we have.
That's one thing I would love to find is those
those animatronic type things like you see in the Christmas Story.
To put out in those you just need to.
Speaker 4 (25:12):
Put up a train, you know, little things like that. Yeah,
you know so. But and then ls Good had the
talking Christmas Tree, which I believe is now in Center Market.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Yeah. Scared the you know what out of.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
Me, but it would be funny because basically the people
that would work the Christmas tree and as a kid,
you don't know this right, but they would be high
school students or maybe college kids or something of that nature.
Most of them were women or girls. Okay. And my mom,
of course, was a high school teacher, and every year
(25:46):
there was somebody from Tridelphia High School or Wheeling Park
High School that was that she knew. That was the
Christmas tree. And when we walked by the Christmas tree,
knew my name, and I'd be like amazed, Oh the
heck is the Christmas tree them? And then I finally
figured after you get them about seven or eight, you
figure it out.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
But it's Christmas magic. Yeah, yeah, yeah, no, no, it's okay.
So he mentioned woolworts and Murphy's Murphy's in this that
my grandparents used to refer to those as five and dimes. Okay,
that was just a blank.
Speaker 4 (26:20):
That's what Jupiter was. There was value city, not the
value city that we know, but there was. It was
a different value city. Yeah, so not the recent value.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
I remember going to the woolworst down here and there
was one in the mall and getting the big I
guess balloons for lack of a better term, we called
them bonkie bong balloons. I know, real good English there,
but and they had the long rubber band on me.
Speaker 4 (26:44):
The bouncy balloons you you beat them off your hand.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
Yeah, they all had those. If you were good, you
got one of those.
Speaker 4 (26:52):
You know what I always liked for Christmas. I always
like getting a new pair of pants with a hole
in the pocket. That way I had new pair of clothes.
I had something new to wear and something to play with.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
Okay, on that note, you were born with a toy
seven forty five The bloom Daddy Experience salmon otis what's
your favorite toy from Christmas? Of past Christmas pass nostalgia?
Go on our Facebook page. Michael says his favorite was
a pair of socks. I'm sorry, Michael, so sorry. Chad
(27:35):
says a dirt bike. That's a little bit of a
step up. We want to hear from you. One eight
hundred and sixty two four eleven seventy And of course
we have something you can put on your Christmas tree
next week, Family four pack to see the toughest monster
trucks along with pit passes. That's coming up here shortly.
Seven forty six. The bloom Daddy Experience salmon OTAs News
Radio eleven seventy WWVA seven fifty one, The bloom Daddy Experience.
(28:21):
Oh some Sam News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. We were
talking about toys a little bit earlier. I want to
highlight you heard us talk about the Operation Toyleft. We
had Chief Shorts figure in here a couple of weeks
ago about it. I got the opportunity to go up
in the bucket truck froze.
Speaker 1 (28:44):
My news radio eleven seventy WWVA off.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
Okay, okay, I have no idea where that just came from.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
He was bored. He felt like jumping in and added in.
Speaker 4 (28:58):
Holy cow, scared like I never we never.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
See that, No, no, But as I was saying, just
wanted to highlight you know, the results of Operation Toy Lift.
We're seen yesterday at WU Wheeling Hospital as hundreds of
the toys were dropped off for children that are currently
hospitalized hospitalized over the holiday. So for those who participated
dropped off things at Operation Toy Lift a few weekends ago,
(29:25):
once again, a huge thank you. And we are seeing
the results of the hard work of the volunteers and
all of the giving of the Ohio Valley as toys
are being distributed throughout Wheeling Hospital and throughout the entire
Ohio Valley thanks to our friends at the United Way.
So a little uh, a little update and follow up
on that. Here is two statements that you don't hear
(29:52):
very often together. Two terms. So construction, ahead of time, ahead.
Speaker 1 (30:01):
Of schedule, News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Speaker 4 (30:08):
No, No, I think I think I figured out what
it is.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
It's like our version of Elf on the shelf just
pops up whenever.
Speaker 6 (30:14):
No.
Speaker 4 (30:14):
So, there's certain things that hit when you hit the keyboard,
and so I was trying to find something in the
system and I hit the number one. Oh, and I
think it automatically defaults to that. Yeah, OK, sorry, folks, Hey,
we won't be doing that again.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Learn something new every day. But as I was saying, so,
the Wheeling officials say, the demolition of the OVMC campus
and the Center Market parking garage is complete and the
project was right on budget. I take that back. There's
three things you usually don't hear together when it comes
to a construction project. Officials say that there's a little
(30:52):
bit of storm sewer work that needs to be done
on Market Street, but the site itself, the contractor is
beginning demolition of the site in Chaplain Street is scheduled
to be reopened Friday afternoon. The site is expected to
be the future home of the WVU Wheeling Cancer Institute
(31:12):
and is expected to open in twenty twenty eight. So
there are there is a construction job that number one
is a head of schedule and on budget. So we
don't see that very often.
Speaker 4 (31:25):
There's a couple that have that have finished early, you know,
I mean, it just sometimes it all depends on the
weather too. Yeah, you know, I mean you hate to
say it, but obviously a demolition project shouldn't have much,
you know, unless it's very bad weather, you know, high
winds and you know, thunderstorms.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Well, and we've been watching demolition around us, right next
door at the former Wheeling in hotel.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
Actually, when it rains, it's probably better when you're doing
demolition because it keeps the dust the dust down, and
then it also it keeps the everything wet so that
it went nothing sparks.
Speaker 2 (31:56):
Yeah, wellen it kind of I don't know no better word,
congeal see together so that the big buckets can get
in there and just get it all at once instead
of everything falling apart. But yeah, watching what they're doing
at the wheeling end with that tear down is it's fantastic.
It's fantastic to come here in the morning when it's
still dark and see the entire suspension bridge lit up
(32:17):
in all of its glory, because it really is an
amazing feat of architecture that we have here that we
have basically just became used to, and we take it
for granted in a way.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
Well, and when they since they put the lights on
the bridge, it enhances the visual aspect of it. I
mean a lot of times you look at something during
the day and while it's still an amazing feat when
you think about when it was built, but when you
(32:51):
see it at night, it dresses it up a little bit.
And I was just actually we were talking about my
cousin that was in Budapest and just during the break
I'd kind of on Facebook and they were she posted
some of the pictures from Budapest, and some of them
are at night, and just how things are lit up,
like the castles and the buildings in the in the
in the square and everything. Sometimes that that accentuates what's
(33:15):
going on well.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
And I really hope those that are building the not
the tourist center. They what are they calling it? Welcome center.
I hope they keep that in mind because I never
realized how much of this side of the suspension bridge
was covered visually by by that particular building. So as
they do the new the new construction there, I hope
(33:38):
they keep that in mind. Once again, our question for today,
what was your favorite toy that you received at Christmas
growing up? I have a couple on Facebook, like I
said Jane. She says a Shirley Temple doll. Shirley Temple doll.
Steve says transformers, and then Wendy says, my favorite toy
was a Giggles doll. I'm missed the department stores that
(34:01):
were decorated. I miss the families that were walking down
the streets. I miss looking in store windows and seeing
lots and lots of people. I miss music on the street.
I guess I miss my youth at Christmas. I miss
Wheeling in its heyday. So she is pretty much agreeing
with with caller Davo about, you know, the nostalgia that
(34:21):
was downtown Wheeling back in the day. I have bits
and pieces of that memory wise, I don't remember it
the way you do. Otis, I was a little too
a little too young, So we want to hear from
you one one hundred and sixty two for eleven seventy.
What was your favorite toy that you got at Christmas?
Or what do you miss shopping wise that we used
to have here in the Ohio Valley. But you know what,
(34:43):
we have a chance. Let's do this our first chance
to win family four pack the Toughest Monster Truck Tour
coming in April down at West Banco Arena. For tickets
for pit passes and a gift certificate for one hundred
six two four eleven seventy. Let's do caller number eighteen
(35:05):
caller number eighteen one, eight hundred sixty two, four eleven seventy.
You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience here on news
radio eleven seventy WWVA, d number one talk.
Speaker 1 (35:25):
Show in the Ohio Valley. This is the bloom Daddy Experience.
Your host, bloom Daddy, his goal inform, entertain and tick
people off. The bloom Daddy Experience on news Radio eleven
seventy WWVA starts now.
Speaker 2 (35:47):
Happy Thursday, eight o six. The bloom Daddy Experience. Sam
and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. We are six
days away from Christmas. We are twenty three hours away
from the entertainment juggernaut that is Christmas Karaoke, so mark
(36:07):
that on your calendar. Twenty three hours in counting. Congratulations
to Kendra, our winner here in our first hour for
the Toughest Monster Truck Tour coming in April. So congratulations.
We'll get those out to you. Kendra. Getting into some
local things. Wheeling police are trying to track down a
(36:28):
man wanted for transferring stolen goods. Detectives say that Gary
Edward Meers Anderson is thirty eight years old, about one
hundred and eighty pounds and just over six feet tall.
Police say myers Anderson could be armed and dangerous, so
you should avoid any interaction with him. Please contact the
(36:49):
police with any tips. I will share this story on
our Facebook page. Ohio Kenny is issuing a scam alert,
so please be legit. We've talked about this several times
over the holiday season. This is when this really picks up.
Someone is trying to full residence by telling them that
they've missed jury duty. The scam calls are being reported
(37:12):
in Ohio County. Official say law enforcement personnel do not
call citizens about jury duty. As a reminder, you should
not give out any personal information over the phone. We
talked about that when Belmont County was in here, Belmont
Honey Incoming Sheriff was in here. We talked about the
(37:32):
scams going on in Belmont County. It was the same
type of scenario with the whole jury duty situation. So
please be diligent. They do not call you when it
comes to anything to do with jury duty, So please
just hang up the phone or talk about the weather
and just drive the scammer knots. That would be my suggestion.
Just mess with them the way they mess with us.
(37:55):
West Virginia dad has been sentenced following the overdose of
his infant son. The Brook County man now knows his
sentence after being convicted in connection with the death of
his infant son. The fourteen month old victim got a
hold of fentanyl in the family's home and died of
an overdose. This happened in August of twenty twenty two.
(38:15):
Zachary Henderson later pled guilty to charges including child neglect,
and yesterday was sentenced to six months in jail in
three years of home confinement. The child's mother was previously
sentenced to two years of probation after being convicted in
the case, and out of Marshall. Marshall County, they are
(38:35):
welcoming a new sheriff, Mike Doughtry. Daughtry was sworn in
earlier this week by Judge Jeff Kramer. Chief Deputy Sam
Robinson was also sworn in. Both leaders will officially take
over in January. So on the national level and off
the local level, there is a lot of changes happening
across the board. One thing I wanted to highlight, and
(39:00):
I'm sure everybody will recognize this name, Brenda Dainhart. She
is retiring from WTRF Channel seven News. I personally grew
up watching Brenda on the news because and this is
(39:20):
not a dig I grew up with one TV station
and WTRF was it. On occasion we got two channel
and I would come in, but I digress. Just wanted
to throw out a huge congratulations to Brenda. Forty three
years in the business and if you have ever worked
in news in media, to accomplish what she has accomplished
(39:44):
in this industry, and to do it in her hometown
at one location is a feat that not many can claim.
I personally have gotten the opportunity to work with Brenda
on several occasions with Operation Toyleft a matter of fact,
(40:04):
and it's not only a job for her, I will say,
it's a passion in the Ohio Valley is a passion
of hers. But again, forty three years in the business
is an amazing accomplishment for a lot of young ladies
who got into the news world or the media world.
She is somebody that we looked up to, that we
(40:26):
learned from, and she's an example of what young women
can accomplish in this industry. And I can imagine the experiences,
the stories that she got to cover, the faces that
are burnt in her mind from the stories, and the
(40:48):
different people she's gotten to work with through in the
Ohio Valley throughout the years. So just a huge congratulations
to her. Went back and saw some of the old
clips that w TRAF is airing, and you know, you
gotta highlight the hairduce too, because we all know we
have those in our past, but dear Brenda, they are
(41:09):
on tape. But again, congratulations, what an amazing feat And
it was looking at some of the old clips to
see her former anchor Jim Davis on there. I mean,
just just talk about nostalgia. We were talking about nostalgic
toys seeming seeing that some of those cliff cliffs were
(41:30):
clips were definitely nostalgic. Also, I'm sure Otis you grew
up watching watching her.
Speaker 4 (41:35):
Also, Yeah, I don't know if I want to say
grow up. I'm a little bit when I was probably
in college, like when Brenda was more.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
Okay, so yes, it says she started in nineteen eighty
one at w twy.
Speaker 4 (41:48):
Well, I mean, yeah, that's when she started, but I mean,
like is an anchor person, I guess it was probably
a little bit later, you know, Mark.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Davis and Mark Davis. Well, I said, Jim Davis, my apologies.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
Mark Davis was there, like Jennings Martin, Bob Finnegan, John Dominic.
Those are the ones from Channel seven that you that
I remember. And then you know, obviously, you know, you
see the changes that have you know that that came.
And obviously Karen and bloom Daddy and and Sherry and
Jim Forbes and and you know a bunch of them
were on on Channel seven at one point in time
(42:21):
or another.
Speaker 2 (42:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
So yeah, but but Brenda worked through them all, you know,
so nice lady, super nice lady too.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
Yeah, and a huge like I said, a huge part
of the Ohio Valley. Like I said, I've gotten the
opportunity to work with her on Operation Toy the Life.
I mean, think back to the Easter Seal telethon. She
was always a huge part of that. Her and Jim
Connor and Connor, John Dominic back in the day.
Speaker 4 (42:44):
Scott Nodi. So a lot of a lot of them.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Yeah, yeah, So so congratulations. Don't know how w TRF.
Speaker 4 (42:50):
Is going to Uh, it'll be interesting.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
Survive without you. I mean, that's a that's that's hard
to replace, hard to replace. So congratuate relations Brenda again.
Back to you know, what was your favorite toy that
you received at Christmas? That's kind of what we're hitting
on today, but also in celebration of our company Christmas
party tonight, sixty five percent of employees will likely to
(43:19):
attend a workplace holiday party. Now, a survey of two
thousand US workers found that sixty five percent intend to
attend their Christmas party. They've come for the free food, shocker,
and free drinks. I'm sure if those are offered overall,
(43:40):
fifty five percent of workers feel more appreciated during the
holiday season. Workers appreciate hearing thank you from their boss.
That's free, just say thank you. That's a definitely appreciated
from employees. They also appreciate being appreciated by their peers
and receiving regular raises. Here's the secret to success.
Speaker 4 (44:07):
Sorry, couldn't.
Speaker 2 (44:09):
I wondered if I could sneak that past you. You
sounded like bezos there for a second, real quick. Here's
the secret to success, don't do it yourself. According to
CEO Scott Johnson, he is the CEO of Monivosity, I've
never heard of that leaders need to leverage that power
(44:30):
by empowering their teams to be more connected and to
appreciate each other more. All right, what's your favorite part
of holiday work parties? One in one hundred sixty four
eleven seventy and keep it clean. But is your favorite
part of holiday work parties? Leaving work or leaving the party?
Speaker 4 (44:51):
Leaving the party?
Speaker 2 (44:52):
Now, come on, I know you enjoy those extra two
three hours that you're gonna get to spend with me tonight.
Speaker 4 (44:59):
Mike's off, boy.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
I can't catch a break today. I cannot catch a break.
But yeah, what do you enjoy about your holiday Christmas party?
What's your favorite one? Where do you get to go?
One and sixty four eleven seventy It's eight fifteen. When
we get back, I'm going to tell you about a
special tour I got to take yesterday, a little bit
of behind the scenes at a new business hitting the
(45:26):
Ohio Valley. And I'm pretty sure it'll interest a lot
of you listening The Bloomdaddy Experience, salmon Otis News Radio,
eleven seventy WWVA Ay twenty one. Welcome back The bloom
(45:55):
Daddy Experience, salmon Otis News Radio, eleven seventy w WVa.
So yesterday I got the invitation to tour behind the
scenes of a new business coming to the Highlands. Now
I noticed you were asked to join also, but you
had a scheduling conflict.
Speaker 4 (46:14):
Yeah, I mean I had a funeral, correct.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, So I'm sorry you didn't get
to come because it was outstanding. So what am I
referring to? I am referring to the new the second
location called Guntry, West Virginia. Now this is up as
I said, at the Highlands, and this is behind how's
(46:37):
the best way to explain it, it's it's behind McDonald's
and bob Evans.
Speaker 4 (46:41):
It's right in front of the Hampton Inn.
Speaker 2 (46:43):
Yeah, so it's kind of like sandwich between bob Evans
and McDonald's in the in the inn. So, but it's
a fifty thousand square foot building and the work that
is being done there is amazing. They the the attention
(47:03):
to detail that is going into this complex will knock
your socks off. Now there's a tentative opening date sometime
in January, but of course we all know how that
goes when it comes to weather and supplies and and
and and you know, uh, tying up all the loose end.
(47:24):
So I don't want to give an exact date yet
for it. But the the influx of finances that are
going to come to Ohio County because of this location
will be huge. And it's for it's not it's for everybody.
So it's not necessarily for the most experienced uh person
(47:47):
with a gun. It is uh for everybody, all ages
to learn. There will be gunsmithing, there will be an
entire area to shop for for supplies. There will be
oh my goodness, a restaurant that and it's not wings
(48:08):
and chicken tenders. It's going to be an actual restaurant
inside this complex. There is a twenty five yard shooting range.
There is one hundred, there's fifty. It's going to be
used by law enforcement for training. There's going to be simulators,
There is going to be I can't even rattle off
(48:28):
everything that's going to be there, but I do have
a lot of photos from the tour yesterday, so I
am going to put those up on our Facebook page.
And the first thing I thought of while I was
there and we're going over all this different stuff, is
how do I get a gift card for my husband
for Christmas? For this because this is right up his alley,
right up his alley, and here in the next couple
(48:52):
weeks we are going to have the general manager in
studio to really get into the nuts and bolts about
all the specifics of the range and everything that the
All High Valley can look forward to of what they're
going to offer up at Guntry at the Highlands again
if you want to check them out, GUNTRYWV dot com.
(49:13):
And like I said, this is perfect for a Christmas gift,
so you can go online and get gift certificates. But
it got me thinking about, you know, last minute gift ideas.
But before we get to that, we've got a call.
Speaker 4 (49:25):
We have somebody on that will be here tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (49:29):
Okay, you look okay.
Speaker 4 (49:30):
That would really like to talk about Christmas parties. So
good morning, mister dude. How are you?
Speaker 3 (49:37):
I am wonderful. How are you guys?
Speaker 4 (49:39):
Great? You want to talk about Christmas parties? That's great?
Speaker 3 (49:43):
Oh yeah, see I work for a privately owned company,
which is the only place I can work for anymore.
What's my status? So it's pretty loose at our Christmas party.
So like my former owners, like my owners got bought out.
My former owners, I was really good friends with one
(50:06):
wife and we dance together every year. Like some people
are like, well, that's very inappropriate. I said, not where
I work, And that's the greatest thing, because I work
this year. The last couple of years going shocks with
everybody's wives and everything, and people get upset. Some people
get upset because I get away with whatever I want.
Speaker 4 (50:26):
You're pretty loose. You're pretty loose.
Speaker 3 (50:28):
I'm pretty loose, and like there's a I really don't
give a damn, so I just do what I want.
And we have a great time dance with everybody's wives.
And like I run into him there and they're like, well,
my wife was asked about you the other day, and
I said, I bet she is. That's just the way
(50:49):
it is.
Speaker 4 (50:49):
Yeah, yeah, well, and you know your wife is out
of town, you know, just saying you've got the kids out.
Speaker 2 (50:58):
There's nothing wrong with the dancing with somebody. I mean,
it's not as if your.
Speaker 3 (51:03):
Your you never seen you see me dance too?
Speaker 2 (51:06):
You know I have seen you dance well, does have
some moves.
Speaker 3 (51:12):
Oh yeah, Wait a second.
Speaker 2 (51:13):
You didn't ask me to dance. You didn't ask me
to dance.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
When we were there, Uh I did? You said absolutely not.
You said I can't dance like that. I said, yeah
you can. No one's going to be looking at you anyways.
They're going to be focusing on me. What there was
st stretch fit pants. I mean, everybody's gonna be looking
(51:40):
at that.
Speaker 4 (51:43):
That's just an image that I just really don't want
to have in my mind.
Speaker 2 (51:46):
It's not a bad image.
Speaker 3 (51:47):
Oh yeah it is. Wait till you see what I
wear tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (51:52):
Remember we have new we have first timers coming in tomorrow, so.
Speaker 2 (51:57):
We should we should should have invited the dude to
our Christmas party tonight.
Speaker 4 (52:03):
Don't And now he knows there's a Christmas party tonight.
Speaker 3 (52:08):
I know. So you want to dance tonight. I'm fine
with it. I don't care. I'm a day drinker.
Speaker 4 (52:20):
You can take my place because I can't go there later,
I'll be there if I go, I'll be there later.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
So all right, maybe I got myself a date.
Speaker 4 (52:31):
See you tomorrow. Ye, he didn't mean it.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
He meant it as much as you mean it when
you say.
Speaker 4 (52:41):
To me, I don't think I've ever said I don't
think you.
Speaker 2 (52:44):
Have either, exactly exactly. So anyways, back a little bit,
back to uh, the tour yesterday. I'm going to share
some pictures on our Facebook page for you to check
it out. And then also, of course, like I said,
the general manager, Jason will join us here in studio
probably after the holiday, yeah, after holiday break, of course,
to get a little bit more insight into everything that
is happening up at Guntry. And thank you so much
(53:07):
for the tour. It was quite in it was mind blowing.

So the Penguins are looking to collect their second win
in a row after topping the Kings in overtime. The
Pens are visiting the Nashville Predators tonight at Bridgetone Arena.
Pittsburgh is currently fourth in the Metropolitan Division with thirty
(53:57):
three points at fourteen, fourteen and five. Tonight's game and
all the Penguins games can be heard on our sister station,
of course, Eagle one oh seven five, and then locally
the Nailers.
Speaker 4 (54:09):
Oh, they are red hot, man, I'm telling you. They're
bringing their thirteen game win streak back to West Bank
or Arena tomorrow. It's the only home game of the weekend.
They go back on the read Saturday and Sunday, but
I mean it's in Tomorrow is a frosty Friday, so
they're gonna be taking on the Toledo Walleye puck drops.
At seven to ten, Nailers are one point out of
first place in the Eastern Conference of the EHL. And
(54:30):
if you can't make it to the game, you know
you can always catch all the exciting action on our
sister station, Mixed ninety seven to three. Nice said they're
red hot man thirteen game win streak.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
There's a perfect last minute gift idea tickets to see
the Nailers if you have a hockey fan in here.
Speaker 4 (54:45):
Yeah, and in January at one point in time, they've
got a Star Wars night coming.
Speaker 2 (54:49):
Up, so you know, I mean, that's my much.
Speaker 4 (54:52):
Check their website because they do have promotions. I think
one time they had one. I think in November.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
Don't they always have a Harry Potter or something too.
Speaker 4 (55:02):
I think they've already done Harry, but I could be wrong,
but I think they did one in November. They're doing
another one in February. But they're doing like a sports
card trading show, like before and before, during and after
the game. I didn't go to the first one, but
I might set up a table, wouldn't that. Yeah, I've
(55:23):
got some well, I've got I've got some cards that
that I'm kind of the steward of.
Speaker 2 (55:30):
Helping somebody out out and.
Speaker 4 (55:32):
It's a it's a charity, So I mean anything, if
if you buy the cards that I have from this group,
that all goes to the charity.
Speaker 2 (55:39):
Oh nice, nice.
Speaker 4 (55:41):
So if anybody wants any sports cards or looking for
Christmas gifts, I have some very inexpensive stuff that and
if you buy it, the money goes to the charity.
So there's some football, there's some basketball, there's some baseball,
so I mean some of it's twenty bucks in under.
Speaker 2 (55:58):
Nice nice, we'll talking shopping and last minute gifts and
all that kind of all that topic that I'm sure
plenty out there. They're not finished yet with their shopping list.
So I just want to throw out a couple a
couple of local ideas that I have found some some
good gifts at Unique Gifts, I did very well, now
(56:18):
it's it's coming gone already, but I did very well
at the craft show up at the Highlands and then
the one at the Washington County Fairgrounds. Correct, yes you
told me about that one. But they're they're local people,
they're local crafters. The majority of.
Speaker 4 (56:33):
That, I mean, they're they're within the Tri state area,
most of them.
Speaker 2 (56:36):
So that's something to kind of put on your calendar
for next year if you're looking for unique gifts gifts.
Speaker 4 (56:41):
But just keep in mind the one in Washington County
is a two weekend event. So it is a Friday,
Saturday Sunday the first weekend, and then I believe it's
Saturday Sunday the second weekend. There is a there is
a cost of admission October, right, I believe, So it's
the end of October because you can go in shorts.
It's pretty, it's pretty warm. Uh, it's you know, it's
(57:01):
I think there's a six dollars maybe to get in,
maybe seven, And they have coupons all over the places.
You can say fifty cents, but like if there's two
of you go and so you save a bucket.
Speaker 2 (57:10):
Well, it helped me because I got to jump on
things to the point where as I was pulling things
out of bags last night to wrap, I'm like, oh,
I forgot I bought that. Well, this person's now getting
three things instead of two or whatever. But some other
local places to kind of keep in mind, this is
where I've had luck. So one of our advertisers, dear
(57:31):
friend Dickinson Longhorn. So of course there's the meat, sure,
fantastic fantastic meat. Along with that, though, is their great
gift shop, so you can go in there and get
your individual steaks and all of that. But when I
say head to tail, it's head to tail. So you
can get what I got my husband a couple of
(57:52):
years ago. It looks like a Viking mug, but it's
a horn right that.
Speaker 4 (57:57):
You know, hornmug, the horn mug.
Speaker 2 (57:59):
Yeah, so have those out there. They have other types
of mugs. They have. One of the best things that
I own is what I carry my laptop in. It's
a bag and it's got hide on it, and I
get more compliments on that. So guys, if you're looking
for something for your wife and she's into purses or
bags or anything to carry, perfect place to go. Of course,
there's all the shops in Center Market. There's all kinds
(58:22):
of unique shops down there. There's the antiques, there is
ash in Tin for clothing and home dcor. There is
the the winery that's down there. I get all my
wine down there. So there's place that's it Cassidevina. I
always get them mixed up, but it's fantastic. So there's plenty,
plenty of things down in Center Market. Of course, there's
(58:43):
always gift certificates for food dinner at the market. Vine
Coleman's Fish high a Valley Staple and then on Main
Street in Saint Clairsville there's a unique little business called
the Melting Pot. And what that is is it's an
open room and there's a different vendor, So it's a
(59:06):
bunch of different local vendors, different artisans, skilled tradesmen. There's
all kinds of different stuff there that they have a
section of that business that is theirs. So there's a
lot of unique gifts there to go and check out.
And then one of the newest things that I think
a lot of people were into experiences instead of you know,
(59:28):
socks and underwear. Get somebody an experience, and there's plenty
around here that you could focus upon. What about a
weekend at Salt Fork. Everybody always forgets about salt work.
It's what maybe an hour away if that, or a
trip to the wilds this summer for the kids. I
know some people that did that. My parents did that
with my niece actually, and they stayed in one of
(59:49):
the yurts they have out there and you can hear
the animals in the middle of the night. It's really cool,
really neat experience. So if you have kids and you
want to treat them to something different, something tries something
out of the wilds. Of course, we've got Grand View Adventure.
If you're not like me and you like heights, you know,
do the zip lines, do the climbing, and stay at
(01:00:10):
Grand View. There's plenty of cabins up there, beautiful in
the fall. Give certificate or something like that. What about
the symphony right here, right here in our very own building.
Of course, they're winter schedules coming up. And you know,
so there's tons out there where you don't necessarily have
to go miles and miles away, and you don't have
(01:00:32):
to jump online and buy something. It's all right here
in our own backyard.
Speaker 4 (01:00:37):
Well. One of the places that I've frequented the last
couple of years is actually Ruttenberg's in Moundsville.
Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
I've never been in there. I'm so sorry to admit that.
Speaker 4 (01:00:47):
It's a very compact store. Let's put it that way.
There's not a lot of room to move around. But
they have a lot of they have a lot of items,
a lot of work related items. They have some car heart,
they have what is that area at they have they
have a wide selection of West Virginia ware WVU war
(01:01:07):
and they have it from infant to six x, So,
I mean, you know, it's not like you're gonna get
shut out if you're a little smaller or a little bigger. Uh.
They also carry like the hay Dude product. They have jeans,
they have work pants, they have boots, they have all that.
It's a very and a couple of years ago I
bought some poolovers for uh, some you know, like my
(01:01:28):
mom and my dad's wife and a couple other people
I bought some poolovers for. They were like a fleece
with a w V on them, the flying WV. Uh
so very very and then right next door, yes, in fact,
yesterday I just went in and did some Christmas shopping
at the ian K Sports Cards or ian K it's
(01:01:49):
ian K Sports, I think so. But they basically sell
the the collectible cards Pokemon, and my oldest son collects Pokemon.
My youngest son collects baseball, so you know, we'd kind
of go there. And then they have some you know,
older cards. They have individual cards. You don't have to
buy a set, you know, if you're a collector, it's
a neat place to stop. And they also have gift
certificates there, so if you if you if you're not sure,
(01:02:12):
what your your friend collects or whatever. But they are
a collector. You can always buy a gift certificate, like
you said, Yeah, so you know a lot of different things.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
One in doubt a gift certificate.
Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
In fact, I think what I'm going to be doing
is I'm going to be going to Jacob and Sons
to maybe do some Christmas shopping there as well. I've
done that, you know, And I'm not saying that just
because they are sponsored, but because it's something a little different,
little unique. I had made the comment that possibly my
dad's very hard to shop for, and I thought I
(01:02:44):
threw out Omaha Stakes only because it was just it
was I had seen a commercial for it or something
right before, not necessarily that that I want to order
from Immoha. But somebody emailed me and said, why don't
you go shop local and either go to you know,
like you said, Dickinson or Jacob and Sons or something.
So That's what I'm gonna do.
Speaker 2 (01:03:04):
On Facebook, Stephen said, Cherokee Trading Post. They've got tons
of stuff up there. A suggestion relaxology and repair massage therapy.
That's where I went for my headspa massage. Japanese headspa. Hey, listen, guys,
give a certificate for relaxation. Every woman loves one of those,
(01:03:26):
so there's plenty out there. Just buy local. That's the
whole point. That's the message. Oh deluxe novelty Martin's ferry.
Forgot about that one. Who doesn't love a toy store
good mansion wines. So thanks for all the suggestions. Eight
forty six The bloom Daddy Experience Otis and Sam News
Radio eleven seventy WWVA. We are back. It's a fifty one.
(01:04:06):
The Blue Daddy Experienced samon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Before we go and talk motorized horsepower. Just real quick
saw this story. A Christmas parade in Georgia took an
unexpected turn when police say an intoxicated rider on horseback
caused a disturbance and led to his arrest. So a
(01:04:29):
little bit of drunken horseback riding in a local Christmas.
Speaker 4 (01:04:32):
Parade, that's always good.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Sure watch out for him throwing candy.
Speaker 4 (01:04:37):
Well, somebody I know that's driving safely is our buddy
from Straw Automotive, Kevin Cook.
Speaker 5 (01:04:42):
What's up, buddy, guys, how y'all doing this morning?
Speaker 4 (01:04:46):
Hanging on. You've got a car full of people with you.
Speaker 5 (01:04:49):
I do. I have the legendary Rick Maine, our service director,
with us this morning. Daga Morton, Good morning everybody there
you Goca, Mike Rogers with us this morning, or Joey.
Speaker 4 (01:05:01):
Moran, Jayway? Yeah, so hey, what's going on there? I
figured you're on your way to mountain here, Honda.
Speaker 5 (01:05:08):
Yeah, we're doing our This is the first Christmas luncheon
we bat with our team that mountaineers that we're going
over there to feed everybody and give away Christmas presents,
all that good stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:05:21):
Have a good time, Okay, anything good in the in
the in Santa Sack today.
Speaker 5 (01:05:27):
You know, but if there's always right now, you know,
we're talking about Honda's about a Honda Civic for one
ninety nine a month. You can get behind the wheel
of a brand new HRV for just two to nine
a month, and you can drive away in a c
RV for just two sixty nine a month. I mean
those payments, you know, we talked about it the other day.
I mean, you feel about ten to twelve years and
(01:05:49):
that's the same kind of payments we were advertising back then.
All right, So you know, Honda's definitely been an inflation
fighter and they've been able to keep those payments down.
So if you're in the market, you know, we've got
over three hundred Hondas available right now between the two stores,
pre owned Hondas right now. In our used car image, boy,
there's almost four hundred used cars to chief from. So
(01:06:12):
if you're in the market, today's the day. The weather's fantastic,
get online, pick your vehicle out and come on out
and take delivery of it today.
Speaker 4 (01:06:20):
And if you see it, if you see a Honda
that you like at Mountaineer but you're living here and wheeling,
you'll always make the arrangements to get it here.
Speaker 5 (01:06:28):
Absolutely. If there's anything you're looking for in the way
of Honda, we can.
Speaker 6 (01:06:31):
Get it for you.
Speaker 4 (01:06:32):
So let me ask you this. Are you driving? I
am driving, And the fact that you rattled off all
those numbers off the top of your head, I'm pretty impressed.
Speaker 5 (01:06:41):
Are you really? Yeah, well you're easily impressed.
Speaker 4 (01:06:44):
Well, that's true, I am. There's no If you had
a little card trick, i'd be impressed.
Speaker 5 (01:06:52):
Okay, Well I'll practice my card trick all.
Speaker 4 (01:06:55):
Right, Safe travels, buddy, we'll talk tomorrow.
Speaker 5 (01:06:57):
Right man, Very Christmas, guys, Very Christmas.
Speaker 4 (01:07:01):
Yeah, he rattled them numbers right off, didn't he he did.
It's like, well, I think, you know, I think he
practices because he like, he probably memorizes certain things and there's
other things that like after you look at him so
many times or talk about it so many times, it's
his second second nature.
Speaker 2 (01:07:17):
Well, when payments are the same as they were ten
fifteen years ago, that kind of sticks with you.
Speaker 4 (01:07:21):
Well, yeah, attention too. Yeah, I mean that's not only
pre pandemic pricing, but it's like pre like maybe you're
like boy twenty fifteen, twenty twelve, whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
Yeah, I mean it's yeah, that catches your pretty good.
Speaker 4 (01:07:40):
Have you.
Speaker 2 (01:07:42):
Have you ever gotten a Christmas gift? Okay I'm notorious
for this, one hundred percent. Say, if my husband's listening,
I apologize. He tells me every year, you probably won't
like this and you're going to return it because I
did it once one time, one time. But have you
ever gotten a gift that that you didn't like? So
(01:08:04):
do you pretend that you like it or do you?
Speaker 4 (01:08:08):
I think it depends on who's giving the gift.
Speaker 2 (01:08:10):
See, I don't have a poker face.
Speaker 4 (01:08:12):
So the thing is my mom instilled in me at
a young age that if you don't like it, let
her know, she'll be more than happy to return it
and get you something you do like. So that is
something that I live by, and sometimes when I hand
(01:08:33):
out Christmas presents, I'll say, look, if you don't like it,
you will not hurt my feelings. If you want to
trade with somebody that you're not going to hurt my
feelings if you do it in front of me. I
have no problem with that at all, because I'd rather
see you get something that you're going to use or
that you want, as opposed to just donating it to
charity or throwing it away or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
So two thousand Americans were recently survey twenty three percent
say they would say they loved a gift, but they
actually disliked it. Like I said, it reads all over
my face, and I know it goes back to my
first Christmas exchange is a kid, my kindergarten exchange. I
will never own a snow globe ever. I hate snow globes.
(01:09:19):
You know why, because when I was in kindergarten, we
had a gift exchange. Everybody else got toys. Everybody got
great toys. Whether it Strawberry, short, Cape, Rainbow bright, I
don't care what it was, pound puppy. Everybody got great toys.
I got a snow globe, a boring snow glow.
Speaker 4 (01:09:38):
Let me just say this, It's not about receiving. It's
about giving.
Speaker 2 (01:09:42):
When you're five years old and your classmates are laughing
and giggling with all their new fun toys, and I'm
sitting there shaking a snow glow.
Speaker 4 (01:09:51):
That's fun.
Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
No nope, nope, nope.
Speaker 4 (01:09:53):
Nope, watching the snowfall. Nope, yeah, nope, I can see it.
You're just a toy snob.
Speaker 2 (01:10:00):
I'm not a snow No, I'm not a toy snob.
A snow globe is not a toy.
Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
Sure it is, it can be.
Speaker 2 (01:10:07):
No, no, So don't anybody ever get me.
Speaker 4 (01:10:10):
I know you know what I'm going out today in
buying you a snow globe. I am going out today
and I will find a snow globe and give it
to you.
Speaker 2 (01:10:19):
It didn't even light up or anything even play music,
wasn't even glass. It was plastic.
Speaker 4 (01:10:24):
The dude, DAVEO, you bring in a present tomorrow. Go
find a cheap snow globe and bring it into Sam tomorrow. Wendy,
if you're coming in, Sam wants a snow globe.
Speaker 2 (01:10:36):
L Jim, all right, yes, snow globes are my pet. Peeve,
one of the many. All right, we're almost out of here,
but we got to do it. One in one hundred
sixty two four eleven seventy one eight hundred sixty two

Speaker 4 (01:10:50):
