Speaker 1 (00:01):
The number one TUK show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on News Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
The Bloomdaddy Experience. It's seven oh six on news Radio
eleven seventy. Good Friday morning to you, and again we
finally made it through the week weekend upon us. Hey,
call me Nostrodamis, or call me what you usually call me,
which is probably idiot. But I told you, I told
you a new cinema was coming to the Ohio Valley mall,
didn't I. And this one's gonna be spectacular, to say
the least. The name of it is Golden Ticket Cinemas,

(00:43):
So they're going to take that fifty seven thousand square
foot space and really transform it for you. It's going
to open in the fourth quarter of this year and
it's going to feature eight auditoriums. You're gonna have luxury
recliner seating, state of the art projection and sound technology.
And this is kind of cool. The first late projection
systems in immersive sound in the entire region. You're also

(01:05):
going to get expanded food and beverage menus, wings, pizza,
burger sliders, milkshakes. Golden Tickets also bringing their ale house
concept to the Ohio Valley Mall. And what that is
is a giant self serve beer wall, diverse beer wine selection, popcorn, soda.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
I mean, you're really gonna get it all.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
So in addition to drink refills and NonStop popcorn, you're
gonna get to see a movie for only five dollars
and seventy five cents on Tuesdays during Super Tuesdays. Now,
Golden Tickets also offering an annual popcorn bucket, which I
believe the former cinema did that too, where you just
take that bucket home, you go back and I think
you get half off the first serving and then from

(01:46):
there on out you just get free refills. If you
don't know anything about Golden Ticket Cinemas, they're based in Durham,
North Carolina. They've got nineteen locations in twelve states. So
this could be good. This coulda be really good. You're
gonna have it for the holidays. You're gonna get to
go see movies once again at the Ohio Valley Mall,
and it sounds just extraordinary as far as the experience goes.

(02:10):
I mean, you want to sit in a seat that's comfortable,
you want the best projection systems, the laser technology, the
immerciful sound, I mean the whole deal. If you've ever
been to a high end movie theater, you know exactly
what I'm talking about.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
So this is very, very very good news.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Now I'm also getting worried that there's going to be
more announcements coming within the next thirty days at the
Ohio Valley Mall. And I'll try to dig in and
tell you what those are going to be before well
they even make the announcement. But again, I told you
probably three to four months ago then a lot of
big things were happening at the Ohio Valley Mall, and
thankfully they are. I mean, I love that mall. I

(02:48):
remember being a kid when it first opened. I mean
it was the place to go. And over the last years,
you know, going in there and not seeing very many
people in there and seeing a lot of stores closed,
it's depressing. I mean that mall was one of my
good friends growing up, one of your good friends growing up.
I mean, that's where we all spent time, So as
soon as I find out, I will let you know.
But I know in the former Macy's location, they've been

(03:11):
doing a lot of renovation. I know, I know something
special is going in there. I mean, I know what's
going in there. I can't tell you yet. I mean
that's how this works. When you've got a good source
and they tell you, hey, look hold on to this
one for a little bit. Don't release it yet. You
do that, or you burn a bridge, you're never gonna
get back. I know what's going in there, and I
will say this, you're gonna like it. You're gonna like
it a lot. Former serious location. Kind of know what's

(03:33):
going in there once again, you're gonna like it. You're
gonna like it a lot. But sam otis I mean
when it comes to the High Valley Mall, you know,
I kind.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
Of described the mall as a friend.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
I mean back in the day, when you know, we
were ten years old or you know, teenagers, whatever it
may be, the mall was the place to go.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Absolutely, it was the It was the sun in the
middle of our social life. That's where everybody gravitated to.
That's where you you know, mom and Dad dropped you
off and you just wandered the halls of the mall
for hours on end with your friends. I mean that's
what you did. And for I can't how many people

(04:11):
out there listening had their first job at sixteen, seventeen,
eighteen years old at a place at the High Valley Mall.
I did. My first job was at the finish line.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
Yeah. I never worked at them all.

Speaker 4 (04:24):
You never worked at the mall? No, Oh, okay, well
you're the exception now.

Speaker 5 (04:29):
I mean just keep in mind. I mean, like I
was in high school, the mall was big when I
was in high school. Junior high maybe not so much.
I mean you'd go with your parents and then you'd
ask them to give you a couple bucks and you'd
go to the arcade. I mean that was that was.
It was Aladdin's Castle. You would go there and you know,

(04:51):
at the time, I think it was like Space Invaders
and Pacman. I mean, the games were Donkey Kong. I
mean they were the primitive.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
Games that there was essentially the eighties.

Speaker 5 (04:59):
Yes, and then as you get in high school, I
remember there was a high school Spirit Challenge. I think
they called it Okay, and I think it was on
Friday nights and you know, your high school went out
there and you were in the middle of the mall
and you did your cheers. They had the you know,

(05:19):
the cheerleaders, maybe the pep band. I can't remember everything.
I just remember going, getting a couple of beers and
going with my buddies, you know, for sixteen ever seventeen,
eighteen years old. And they were smart, so they didn't
put the rivalries. Like there was three schools a night,
so like one was a six fifteen, when was it

(05:40):
seven to fifteen, When was it eight to fifteen or
something like that. And they were smart. They didn't put
like the rivalries on the same night. Didn't want it
to get to here, right, So you didn't put Wheeling
Park and Willing Center on the same night, or Wheeling
Park and John Marshall, or Wheeling Park and Brook.

Speaker 3 (05:54):
You didn't.

Speaker 5 (05:55):
They so it was always like Wheeling Park, Woodsfield and
Shy or something, you know what I mean. So they
were three teams or three schools that you know, didn't
really have any rivalry. So they were smart about that.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
Well, listen, I was I was there yesterday for the
announcement and people are excited. I got to I don't
know if you saw the picture I took, well, somebody
took for me on Facebook. I tried out one of
the reclining chairs. It is quite comfy. They are completely
renovating the past AMC theaters. They've already started the work.

(06:32):
The work has already started. The recliners are electric, they
are heated, and there is a lot of work and
energy being put into what we are getting here at
the High Valley Mall. And I want to say this,
whoever did not care about taking care of our prior

(06:55):
theater because it was always a running joke how sticky
the floors were and how dirty the seats were. There's
a lot of people putting a lot of time and
effort into getting this here to our valley. So let's
take care of it as moviegoers. Let's take care of
it and respect it because they are bringing a diamond
here to our mall. Absolutely. And one thing, when I

(07:17):
posted some of the pictures on our social media of
the announcement yesterday, there was, as expected here in the
High Valley, there was some naysayers talking about the ticket
prices and you know, questioning, oh, it's going to be
thirty dollars a ticket to see a movie, and there's
always going to be that that negative view, even when

(07:38):
something as exciting this as this is announced, there's going
to be that negativity. Well, I went on their website
and I picked one of their theaters that is very
similar to what they announced is coming here tomorrow yesterday,
the elite theater with the bigger screens, and pulled up
ticket prices and I did the matinee. It's nine dollars

(08:00):
across the board to see a matine movie theater. Now,
I'm not saying that's exactly what the prices are going
to be here, but at a similar theater under Golden Ticket,
this is their pricing. Nine dollars across the board for
a matinee for an evening ticket an adult is twelve
dollars and fifty cents. It's really not that bad. It's

(08:22):
really not that bad for children, military and senior citizens.
Nine dollars for an evening ticket. So for questioning the
ticket prices, if that is what we get here in
the Ohio Valley, As I said, I pulled those prices
right off their website for one of their locations in
North Carolina, very similar to what they are building here,

(08:44):
it's not bad pricing to see the movie. Now, if
you want to add on some of the amazing features
that they're offering with the food and the beer, then
that of course is going to increase the price. But
you don't have to to enjoy a movie. You do
not have to spend that extra money if you don't

(09:05):
want to. So I think that's where the balance is.
But let's not jump on the negative bandwagon here. Let's
not go down that road route. Let's be excited about
what they're bringing because it's a great announcement. It's a
great announcement, and I got to give it to the
folks at the Ahigh Valley Mall and Kafaro that are
fighting to keep not only them all open, but to

(09:28):
bring us new and exciting things. As bloom Daddy said,
there's more to come within the next thirty days, and
I have my ear to the ground know couple of
what's happening. Can't say it though, just like he said,
got to keep it under wraps until our sources says
we say we can. So it is seven point fifteen
on your Friday morning. You're listening to the bloom Daddy experience.
Our question of the day, what's your top three all

(09:51):
time baseball movies? Of course, with the announcement of the
new cinemas and it's baseball season, I thought it was
a perfect tie in. So what's your favorite three all
time baseball movies? You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience
Sam and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA seven twenty one.

(10:18):
Welcome back on this Friday morning, the Bloom Daddy Experience
Otis and Sam News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Before the break,
I mentioned our fun question of the day, it's baseball season,
and then of course we had the big announcement from
the High valleuy All yesterday about the new movie theaters
coming in, so I thought i'd i'd team those two
up with our question, what is your top three baseball

(10:42):
films of all time? Top three? So give us call
one eight hundred sixty two, four eleven seventy, one hundred
sixty two for eleven seventy or of course you can
post or answer in the comment section where I posted
on our Facebook page. All right, Otis, give me.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
Your give me your third, have honorable mention?

Speaker 4 (11:01):
Okay, okay, so.

Speaker 5 (11:03):
My honorable mention is the natural. And the reason it's
an honorable mention and not in my top three is
because it's a little bit.

Speaker 4 (11:14):
To fiction e to drama based.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
No, I mean it's just a little more it's a
little more unrealistic.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
Okay, almost like I mean it's kind of like the
bat's magical sort of.

Speaker 6 (11:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (11:25):
And you know, I'm not saying that you can't get
shot and come back, but you know, just the timing,
I get it. But it's just it's a little it's
a little hokey.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Don say, that's the word that popped into my head.

Speaker 5 (11:42):
Yeah, yeah, it's it's a good movie, you know when
he hits the ball into the light stanchion and everything.
I mean, it's that's it's a little a little over dramatic. Yes, yes,
I mean if I want baseball, I want something a
little more realistic maybe. And if it's not realistic, at
least I wanted to be funny, so has.

Speaker 4 (12:02):
A bit of h real possibilities. Yeah. Yeah, No, my
my third, my third, I don't have an honorable mention,
but my third place is it's it's major league. I'm sorry,
it's it's hilarious. There are so many I mean, the

(12:25):
iconic hairstyle, the glasses, the comedy behind it. I mean,
it's just one of those ones that if I turn
it on, I can't turn it off.

Speaker 5 (12:36):
And the one that I didn't rank because I've never
seen it all the way through. I've seen bits and
pieces is forty two. It's the Jackie Robinson story.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
I have seen it all.

Speaker 5 (12:45):
I mean i've seen I've seen probably about two thirds
of it in bits and pieces, but I've never seen
it all the way through. So that's why it didn't
It didn't make my live. I didn't want to put
something on there that I truly haven't seen. You like
what I've seen.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
I take that back, it's not forty two that i've seen.
Sixty one is the one that I saw, Okay, all
the way through. It was a bit slow for me.
I thought it was was it about?

Speaker 5 (13:10):
What was it about?

Speaker 4 (13:11):
It was? You asked me too fast? Making Mantle and
Babe Ruth the race to break.

Speaker 5 (13:19):
Oh uh Mackey mano and Roger Maris, Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:22):
To Bay to Break Babe Ruth record O. Yeah, yeah,
I was saying that right.

Speaker 5 (13:26):
I knew the number sixty one was significant, but I
couldn't figure out which.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
Way it was going, yeah, yeah, my apologists, I said
that a little bit backwards. So yeah, that's our question.
What's your favorite top three favorite baseball movies of all time? Again,
call its one hundred sixty to forty eleven seventy or
of course you can comment on our Facebook post. All right,
So I have a new rival at home. I don't

(13:51):
know if that's or arch nemesis. Maybe that's the way
to put it. Listen, I love spring, it's beautiful outside.
But we have a bluebird that is the size of
a small groundhog. I would say that I think has

(14:18):
trained at the top gun academy. I don't know if
his call sign is Maverick. I don't know if his
call sign is iceman. I don't know. But this bird
has turned into a dive bomber, not only at my

(14:39):
head when I go to get in my car every
morning or whenever I leave. It has also become a
deliverer or a dive bomber of its own excrement onto
our cars, to the point where it looks like they've
been in the middle of a paintball war. This bird,

(15:02):
as I said, is the size of a small groundhog,
and it even does the flybys, like standing in the
yard yesterday evening or in my driveway yesterday evening, I
heard it come and it was like whoosh, right past
my head. This thing is a beast. And I don't

(15:24):
know if it has a nest somewhere near our driveway.
I don't know. All I know is that all of
our vehicles look like they have been spray painted with
white paint, and it's not paint, ladies and gentlemen. And
I am to the point where where I walk out
to my car, I kind of have my shoulders scrunched

(15:48):
up and I'm kind of guarding my head because I'm
afraid it's gonna take off an ear. And it's a
beautiful bird, Like I said, I believe it's a blue
jay or a bluebird. It's a huge blue bird. It's
a gorgeous bird. But it is absolutely destroying our vehicles,
and I'm afraid I'm gonna lose an eye. And I

(16:09):
don't want to get like I don't want to I
don't know what to do to get rid of the bird.
So if anybody out there has any suggestions, I am
one hundred percent open to it, because at this point
I am tired of washing my car every other day,
and afraid then I'm going to lose a limb or
be scalped by the flybys of this bird. I know

(16:35):
we should I should call it. I should call it
the blue bomber Otis because this sucker is vicious.

Speaker 5 (16:41):
It's probably blue jay because blue jays tend.

Speaker 3 (16:43):
To be mean.

Speaker 4 (16:44):
Yeah, it's vicious. It is absolutely vicious. Like I said,
I don't know if there's a nest somewhere or what,
but it's a big old bird that is terrorizing my
front yard. Any suggestions will happily take it. But that's
my rant of the day. That's my rant. So if
I'm not here on Monday, the bird got me, folks,

(17:06):
the bird got me. Seven twenty eight. You're listening to
The bloom Daddy Experience Otis and Sam News Radio eleven
seventy WWVA. Welcome back to seven thirty six The bloom
Daddy Experience Salmon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. I'm

(17:28):
kind of hitting on some sports this morning. Of course,
our question for our fun fifth for our Fun Friday
is what is your top three baseball movies of all time?
So of course you can comment on our Facebook page.
Otis had an honorable mention, which was The.

Speaker 5 (17:46):
Natural, The Natural. I'll give you my number three now, okay,
my number three is Eight Men Out and it's a
story about I know exactly, the Chicago Black Sox in
nineteen nineteen, and yep, I'm throwing them throwing the world series.
Good cast of actors in that, John Cusack, Charlie Sheen,

(18:07):
I can't think of the guy's name, Gordon klap he
played Detective Metavoi on NYPD Blue. Okay, but anyway, Yeah,
I mean, just good cast of characters and pretty accurate.
I think it's a pretty accurate account of probably what happened.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
How it happened. That was on my list. That was
my number two. No, I didn't have an honorable mention,
but you made me think of one. A League of
their Own.

Speaker 5 (18:34):
Yeah, it's a good movie.

Speaker 4 (18:35):
Yeah, there's no crying in baseball, No, there's not.

Speaker 5 (18:40):
I mean, I think they took the one thing about
The League of their Own is they took what actually
happened and took probably a true story and then created,
you know, a little bit around it because you had
to there had to be humor in it to make it.
If you're just in the story. It's probably I mean,

(19:01):
it's great for like a documentary, but it's not great
for a box office hits.

Speaker 4 (19:05):
And you may not know this, and I don't know this.
The two main characters are the two sisters, the gena
character and her little sister. Were they real players.

Speaker 5 (19:14):
Or were they They were based on real places, okay.

Speaker 4 (19:16):
To create the storyline within the movie, kind of like
Titanic did with all the history was surrounding them.

Speaker 5 (19:22):
Yeah, and I mean they took creative liberty, you know,
I'm sure, I'm sure. And there was a there was
a series on Prime.

Speaker 4 (19:31):
It was on Prime.

Speaker 5 (19:31):
It was on Prime where it was Eight Men Out
and it kind of went down a different road. Did
you see any of it? I watch it because it
was set it up for a second season, and I
don't think a second season ever came.

Speaker 4 (19:42):
They did the same thing with Aliga, their own There
was there was a series two, and that's what.

Speaker 5 (19:46):
I was talking about.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
You said, Eight Men Out. I'm sorry, I yeah, okay, Yeah,
it was on Amazon Prime, and I honestly I never watched.

Speaker 5 (19:52):
They went down the dark. They went down like it
explored more of like how the players were actually gay
and in that time, how they were rated and everything.
I mean, it's but again they.

Speaker 4 (20:05):
Put the agenda twist on it.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
Yeah, they went with the wok agenda on it.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
Why why can we not just have entertainment with entertainment?

Speaker 5 (20:12):
But I mean, I bet I here's the other thing.
I think it was probably realistic.

Speaker 4 (20:15):
Possibly, Yeah, you know, yeah, there tends to be a
connection between.

Speaker 5 (20:19):
Because in the forties, you know, everything, if everything was underground,
if you were if that was the lifestyle you chose.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
Yeah, I actually know some people who had aunts, who
had her best friend, roommate. You know, you knew what
it was. Nobody talked about it, right, Yeah, as you.

Speaker 5 (20:36):
Get older you knew.

Speaker 4 (20:36):
As a kid, you didn't, well no, hopefully not nowadays
kids know, but back then they didn't.

Speaker 6 (20:43):
No.

Speaker 4 (20:43):
But yeah, so that's our that's our fun topic of
the day. Call us put it on our social media,
whatever you want to do. But of course, then last night,
if you hadn't heard, was the round night one of
the draft, the NFL Draft. No shocker, Tennessee Titans go
with the University of Miami Miami quarterback cam Ward that

(21:04):
that's been known for like six months, that that's what
was going to happen. So that wasn't a big shock.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
But you know what, you know what, I read something
on social media last night. I didn't people that watched
the draft just amazed me because like it's to me,
it's so boring and like these kids, I mean, I
wish all these kids to get drafted. I want the
best for them. I don't know any of them. I
want them to succeed. I don't want to. I hate
to see anybody label to buster or failure anything like that.

(21:32):
But the thing I liked about cam Ward nothing flashy.
Just came out, had had a like a very like
a like a light grayish colored sport code on T shirt,
didn't have a bunch of chains. He had a little
lapel pin for the University of Miami. Nothing was overdone.
And I respect that because, you know, like the other

(21:56):
the next guy came out in this like fluorescent pink
suit or something like that.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
That was uh yeah, the number two that was a Hunt,
Travis Hunter from Colorado.

Speaker 5 (22:05):
So I mean, I mean, I respect the guy that
just comes out and says, hey, look I'm here, I've
got a job to do, and this is it.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
You know, Yeah, well maybe Travis Hunter. Maybe his mom
had breast cancer. Maybe there's something behind the hot thing.
Let's just say because other than the color, he wasn't
flashy either, right, he didn't have.

Speaker 5 (22:24):
On all the chains and this, and again I just
happened to see yeah, coming out, I wasn't listening or
I didn't you know, I couldn't hear it. Yeah, So,
I mean it was one of those things that there's
like I'm like, oh, that's a great suit. But if
if it was in for his mom, I mean I
could respect that as well. Yeah, I'm not saying I
mean I could. I mean I respect that a lot
more now if that's if that was an option.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
Yeah, Listen, last night will be the pinnacle for a
lot of these guys. It will be you know, hopefully not,
but it will be one of the biggest things going
through the draft. But it's sort of a double edged sword.
Being the number one pick in the NFL Draft. You
go from being the the the hinnacle, the leader of
college football. Then you're in the basement of Cray Football.

Speaker 6 (23:07):
Football Films Presents. Welcome to your crappy new team. Every
college player dreams of being the number one pick in
the NFL Draft. But this distinction of excellence is a
double edged sword, for along with fame and fortune comes

(23:29):
frustration and futility, because finishing number one in the draft
means you'll be on the franchise that came in thirty
second and it'll be up to you to turn it
all around. No pressure, kid, So basking the glory while

(23:49):
you can, because after the commissioner calls out your name,
he'll say, welcome to your crappy new team.

Speaker 4 (24:01):
Yep, that about sums it upright. Yeah. Yeah, But let's
go over some of the action that happened last night.
Off the bat. Round one. It was not a flashy draft.
It just wasn't. It wasn't a receiver headed heavy, running
back quarterback heavy round one of the draft. Those are

(24:23):
the flashy offensive positions, and there wasn't a lot of
that last night. There was only two qbs picked in
round one. Notably not picked, of course, was Shadar Sanders Shadoor,
I'm sorry, I always say that wrong. Shadoor Sanders. He
dropped down into round two. Now they're speculating maybe when
that'll happen. I've seen a couple articles written up late

(24:44):
yesterday that the teams that were looking at him, the Giants,
New Orleans, and then possibly they were saying he was
going to fall to the Steelers, that his interviews did
not go well. That that seems to be one of
the undertones of speculation of why he's dropping. The way
is his interviews did not go well. But speaking of

(25:07):
the Steelers, they had the twenty first pick. They went
with the defensive defensive tackle out of Oregon, Derek Harmon,
again not flashy, but the AFC North, which of course Browns, Steelers, Bengals,
and then Baltimore. But who cares about Baltimore defense heavy? Well, yeah,
but I don't think we have a lot of those

(25:28):
defense heavy. That's how it went. Steelers go with a
defensive tackle, Bengals go with edge rusher Shamar Stewart at
the seventeenth pick, and then of course the Browns. I'm
sitting there, I'm sitting there. Okay, Titans are on the clock.
Yead YadA, YadA. We all know what's gonna happen. Let's
just move on. What do the Browns do? They trade

(25:49):
the number two pick, and of course my initial reaction
was I was not happy because we do that all
the time. But taking a step back and taking a
deep breath, they traded with the Jags. We received the
number five pick, so we dropped back three spots, then
received the thirty sixth pick in round two, a fourth

(26:10):
round pick in a first round pick in twenty twenty six,
which is going to be a more quarterback heavy draft.
So in the long run, I believe the Browns went
out because the jack did take number two and they
took Travis.

Speaker 5 (26:27):
We only dropped three spots right and probably got the
guy they wanted, and they picked up extra picks not
only for this year but then in the future, which
you know, that's huge.

Speaker 4 (26:40):
You know, we're gonna continue the conversation on the draft
because Sanders was sitting there for the Steelers. Steeler fans,
did they drop the ball passing on him? Call us
one and sixty two four eleven seventy we're going to
talk about that. And then also Clay Matthews Junior had

(27:02):
an announcement from a special somebody last night and it's
not going over well. Seven forty six. You're listening to
the bloom Daddy Experience salmon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Oh,
we're having fun on this Friday, seven fifty one, The

(27:23):
bloom Daddy Experience salmon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Let's have some more fun. So, first of all, our
question of the day, top three baseball moves of all time?
Be like Tom Tom said, major League number one, Sandlot
number two.

Speaker 5 (27:43):
Gosh, I totally forgot about it. Oh no, I might
have to read.

Speaker 4 (27:46):
You have to correculate.

Speaker 5 (27:49):
Yeah, I think well, the Sandlot just bumped out a
man amen Ah.

Speaker 4 (27:52):
Okay, okay, Sandlot and then number three, Field of Dreams. Tom,
you just messed up both of our lists.

Speaker 5 (27:58):
Gotta forgot about Sandlot. I heard the Sandlot movie thirty
times before I ever saw it.

Speaker 4 (28:04):
You heard it heard it because your kids.

Speaker 5 (28:07):
Well we would we would drive places, huh, and so
whether wherever we were going, they they were able to
see the movie in the back. But I'm driving, So
I heard I heard the Sandlot every time we went
somewhere on vacation or you know, get away where we
had to drive for any more than three hours or something.

Speaker 4 (28:25):
That's what you heard the whole time.

Speaker 5 (28:26):
I heard I heard the Sandlot, never saw it, hurt,
but I knew, like I knew the dialogue, but it
was like I was like I was blind.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
Well, And it's funny. My neighbor a couple houses down
from me, he walks his dog, depending on depending on
how late I am running to get here in the morning.
I catch him walking his dog. And every time I
see it, it's like sandlot dog. Don't know the dog's name, nothing,
but it's a sanst.

Speaker 5 (28:48):
It's the beast.

Speaker 4 (28:48):
No, I mean his dog. Oh but it's yes, it's
the beast. It looks just like him everything you heard Stard. No,
that's not what that is, is it.

Speaker 5 (28:56):
No, he's kind of like a Saint Bernard something or No,
he's a that's it.

Speaker 4 (29:00):
Yep, Yeah, that's it. Yep. So my neighbor has then
they are they are huge dogs.

Speaker 5 (29:05):
He looked in the mass one time.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
Oh really, I.

Speaker 5 (29:09):
Was gonna And they said that the lady that was
that that raised their bread the mastiffs, and I called
her and talked about it. They said that you have
to have a lot of room for them. Okay. And
then the second thing is like they are they will
sit back and chill and just analyze the situation and
then like if something needs to be done, that's when

(29:30):
they that's when they snap. Oh, it's like they just
they're like they're like the police officer that will take
all the guff you give him. And then and then
at some point in time you just do the wrong
thing and it's like you're in cuffs.

Speaker 4 (29:45):
Oh oh that would be yeah, yeah, if with two
little ones at the time, at the time, I don't
know if you'd want that in.

Speaker 5 (29:51):
Your Yeah, but they say they're great with kids.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
Oh okay, it's just not. The beast wasn't.

Speaker 5 (29:57):
Oh, the beast was fine. They were just scared of scared.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
Anyways, So Tom, thank you the sandlot.

Speaker 5 (30:03):
Oh god, I can't believe I forgot. Like I'm kicking
myself right now. You dropped the I dropped it. No,
not only did I drop it, I turned it over.

Speaker 4 (30:15):
Oh so anyways, and then also speaking of fun, here
before we go to our next commercial break, we're gonna
have your chance to win gift certificates from our friend
at our friends at McCormick's Autoso give certificates.

Speaker 5 (30:29):
Okay, well you kind of just you said it all
in like one where you like take those marbles out
of your mouth.

Speaker 4 (30:38):
Those things. Yeah, give certificates. There we go gift certificates.
So back to the draft last night again, here's the
interesting interesting thing tonight. Tonight will be round two and three.
The Browns have two picks in rounds two and in
round three, the Bengals and the Steelers. Let's see, the

(30:58):
Bengals have one pick and round two and round three.
The Steelers do not have a round two pick. They
have one in round.

Speaker 5 (31:08):
Three, which could all change.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
Oh yeah, absolutely, I mean right now, as of right now,
that's where things stand. But what I said yester earlier was,
you know, Round one was not flashy. We didn't see
you know, all the quarterbacks. This was a pretty lightweight
quarterback class. And of course the Shadhar Sanders Shadore Sanders
is every time is the big conversation today from my

(31:32):
perspective as a Browns fan. With the thirty third and
the thirty sixth pick, since he's dropped to where he's dropped,
I said, I didn't want him. I didn't want him
at number two. But if we can get him at
number you know, at thirty three or thirty six, why not.
I mean that's a pretty easy you know, you're getting

(31:55):
an athlete, yes, yeah, yeah, So I mean if not,
why not? And then last night I just wanted to
hit on this real quick. This just made me laugh.
This morning, of course, I was going over things about
what happened and in the Big Conversation. One of the
articles I pulled up was the coverage by USA Today. Well,
one thing happened last night and I saw a quick

(32:17):
clip of it, and that was Clay Matthews Junior. And
of course the Draft was in Wisconsin last night. He
played for Green Bay. He came out and said, basically,
I got a phone call, spoke to the President today
and he has a message he wants me to read
to you, and he reads and it was the Chicago
Bears still stink. And I think he used a different word.

(32:39):
But well, now in the coverage today under losers in
the USA Today column, they have winners and losers of
the Draft. The commentator says, really, dude, amid all the
jobs lost to bresstocks and ongoing chaos in the world,
you bring political political jokes to the stage Thursday at
the Draft. I'm not going to read the rest of it,

(33:01):
but basically saying, you know, you're bringing politics into sports. Hello,
mister USA Today commentator, where have you been for the
last six or seven years.

Speaker 5 (33:12):
Well, and let's just say that the stock market has
been up the last three days.

Speaker 4 (33:17):
Yes, but really, but the USA today, so I get
to that.

Speaker 5 (33:22):
It was it used to be a great newspaper. Now
it's just a rag.

Speaker 4 (33:24):
It is. But if you're going to comment on this,
that was like thirty seconds, where have you been with
the NFL? We'll just use the NFL alone for the
past five years and the political mantras and woke movement
they've been shoving down our throats. Seriously. Anyways, anyways, let's
do it one hundred sixty two for eleven seventy one.

(33:47):
In hundred sixty two eleven seventy let's do caller number
nine for your chance to win two two gift certificates
fifty dollars. Yeah, total of fifty bucks to our friends
McCormick's Auto in Glendale. That's so work, oil changes, whatever
you want to rotation, Yeah, whatever you want to use
them on. That's what these are for.

Speaker 5 (34:07):
Fresheners, air fresheners.

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Oh deep, car car washing stuff. One hundred and sixty four
eleven seventy seven fifty eight. The bloom Daddy Experience Samon
Otis News Radio eleven seventy.

Speaker 1 (34:18):
Wwvad number one talk show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain, and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy. WWVA starts now News

(34:41):
Radio eleven seventy.

Speaker 2 (34:42):
It's the bloom Daddy Experience. Hey, it's eight six. Let's
get this hour rolling. Good Friday morning to you, and
again we finally made it through the week weekend upon this. Hey,
call me nostrodamis, or call me what you usually call me,
which is probably idiot. But I told you, I told
you a new cinema was coming to the Ohio Valley mall,
didn't I. And this one's going to be spectacular, to
say the least. The name of it is Golden Ticket Cinemas.

(35:04):
So they're gonna take that fifty seven thousand square foot
space and really transform it for you. It's gonna open
in the fourth quarter of this year, and it's gonna
feature eight auditoriums. You're gonna have luxury recliner seating, state
of the art projection and sound technology. And this is
kind of cool, the first laser projection systems in immersive
sound in the entire region. You're also gonna get expanded

(35:27):
food and beverage menus, wings, pizza, burger sliders, milkshakes. Golden
Tickets also bringing their ale house concept to the Ohio
Valley Mall. And what that is is a giant self
serve beer wall, diverse beer wine selection, popcorn, soda.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
I mean, you're really gonna get it all.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
So in addition to drink refills and NonStop popcorn, you're
gonna get to see a movie for only five dollars
and seventy five cents on Tuesdays during Super Tuesdays.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
Now.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
Golden Tickets also offering an annual popcorn bucket, which I
believe the former cinema did that too, where you just
take that bucket home, you go back and I think
you get half off the first serving and then from
there on out you just get free refills. If you
don't know anything about Golden Ticket Cinemas, they're based in Durham,
North Carolina. They've got nineteen locations in twelve states. So

(36:18):
this is gonna be good. This is gonna be really good.
You're gonna have it for the holidays, You're gonna get
to go see movies once again at the Ohio Valley Mall.
And it sounds just extraordinary as far as the experience goes.
I mean, you want to sit in a seat that's comfortable,
you want the best projection systems, the laser technology, the

(36:39):
immercible sound, I mean the whole deal. If you've ever
been to a high end movie theater, you know exactly
what I'm talking about. So this is very, very very
good news. Now I'm also getting word that there's gonna
be more announcements coming within the next thirty days at
the Ohio Valley Mall, and I'll try to dig in
and tell you what those are gonna be before well
they even make the announcement.

Speaker 3 (37:00):
But again, I.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
Told you probably three to four months ago then a
lot of big things were happening at the Ohio Valley Mall,
and thankfully they are. I mean, I love that mall.
I remember being a kid when it first opened. I
mean it was the place to go. And over the
last years, you know, going in there and not seeing
very many people in there and seeing a lot of
stores closed, it's depressing. I mean that mall was one

(37:23):
of my good friends growing up, one of your good
friends growing up. I mean, that's where we all spent time.
So as soon as I find out, I will let
you know. But I know in the former Macy's location,
they've been doing a lot of renovation. I know something
special is going in there. I mean, I know what's
going in there. I can't tell you yet. I mean
that's how this works. When you've got a good source
and they tell you, hey, look hold on to this

(37:44):
one for a little bit. Don't release it yet. You
do that or you burn a bridge, you're never gonna
get back. I know what's going in there, and I
will say this, you're gonna like it. You're gonna like
it a lot. Former serious location. Kind of know what's
going in there once again, You're gonna like it.

Speaker 3 (37:59):
You're gonna like it all.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
But sam otis I mean when it comes to the
High Valley Mall, you know, I kind of described the
mall as a friend. I mean back in the day,
when you know, we were ten years old or you know, teenagers,
whatever it may be, the mall was the place to go.

Speaker 4 (38:13):
Oh absolutely, it was the center of our social universe.
Was the mall. I mean, your parents dropped you off
and you had that first initial taste of freedom, if
you will, you know, your parents weren't there with you,
and you went and saw a movie. You went to
mister Bulkey's. If anybody remembers that candy store, I gosh,

(38:33):
I remember. I remember going to the mall when I
was a wee little at Christmas time and there was
the automatic player piano. I don't even was that what
store was?

Speaker 6 (38:46):
That?

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Was that ca House? Was that Cauerrero Music? Oh? Gosh,
I remember that. I remember the domes that were like
gold in color. Remember in the center they were like
stained glass and they were gold and yellows and all that.
I don't know. Okay, you're looking at me like I'm nuts.
Abby's was there.

Speaker 5 (39:05):
I remember Abby's didn't They had.

Speaker 4 (39:07):
Had the glass windows with the ladies heads. Remember that
walking down the hallway.

Speaker 5 (39:12):
To that was because it was I think there was
a barber college.

Speaker 4 (39:14):
Air Oh, I thought that was Abby's that was part of.

Speaker 5 (39:17):
The barber college.

Speaker 4 (39:18):
I don't remember all.

Speaker 5 (39:21):
Yeah, I think there was a barber college next to Abbey's.

Speaker 6 (39:24):
And then.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
I had a few adult beverages in Abbey's.

Speaker 4 (39:30):
Because Abby's was where you walk down towards the cinemas,
right down that that hallway. Yeah, and there was there
was a there was a piece of glass and the
woman had on like a black hat.

Speaker 5 (39:42):
And that she was it might have been that might
have been their logo at the time. But it's just.

Speaker 4 (39:47):
Weird how things like that sticking your around.

Speaker 5 (39:49):
I mean I remember the stores I remember were like
Chess King and I mean that was a big store
in the eighties for for for fashion, eighties fashion. I
think I bought a few ties in there, skinny ties,
really skinny ties. Trying to think what else. What were

(40:10):
some of the other stores that we went to in
the mall, se Spencer's, I mean Spencers was like that's
where you went because that was like the adult toy
story and you figured, yeah, you're bad, Yeah you got
get away with stuff. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (40:21):
Now, I was a kid in the nineties, like I
remember Mary Go Round.

Speaker 5 (40:25):
It was there, but I didn't I don't think I
ever bought anything in.

Speaker 3 (40:27):
Merry Go Round.

Speaker 4 (40:28):
Oh yeah, if you went to Merry Go Around, man,
you had to get your skids. Those were popular when
I was I remember seeing those in iou sweatshirts. That's
probably after you, but yeah, I remember saving up my
money to buy like a fifty dollars IOU sweatshirt, and
I think my mother still has it.

Speaker 5 (40:46):
Honestly, I think I think Chess. I think it was
Chess King where I bought my vans that had the
black and white checker that was like a staple of
the mid eighties, early to mid eighties.

Speaker 4 (40:56):
And then they made a comeback, didn't they.

Speaker 5 (40:58):
Oh yeah, yeah, and then and then they're like ten
times what you paid for and back then because they're popular.

Speaker 4 (41:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (41:04):
I mean, it's just like you would buy Chuck Taylor's
oh yeah, and they were ten bucks a pair. Now
they're like one hundred and twenty. It's like, it's ridiculous.

Speaker 7 (41:14):
I was.

Speaker 4 (41:14):
I did a little shopping yesterday after the presentation of
the announcement of the new theaters by the way, which
is going to be absolutely awesome. I tried out the
reclining chairs. I give it to I give them two
thumbs up. And they're heated, so they're great. They're great.
Listen this announcement. It's exciting. It's exciting. We've not had

(41:39):
a movie theater like this before. I've heard people talk
about going to larger areas and getting to experience more
of a movie experience, not just going to see a movie.
And that's what we're gonna get here, that's what the
Golden Ticket Movie Franchise is bringing to Saint Clairsville. So
it's a really really exciting announcement. And Blue Daddy teased

(42:02):
a little bit about the upcoming announcements roughly in thirty days.
Spoke to some people yesterday and I don't know all
of the details, but I did ask. This is how
I put it. I said, will the ladies who like
to shop be happy? And there was a very very
big smile on this person's face. So I am thinking

(42:24):
it is going to be retail, and it's going to
be retail shopping of clothing, but I'm not confirming that.
That's just what I am understanding based on that question.
So big things happening at the Ohio Valley Mall. And
like I said earlier, you know who hasn't worked besides
otis of course, who hasn't worked at the mall. My

(42:46):
first job was at the mall. Can't imagine how many
hours I've spent inside that building. I can't. I mean,
my first job was there. My second job was at
Big Boy, remember Big Boy in the mall, Great people watching,
the long windows that went all fabulous people watching, fabulous
people watching. So listen, it's exciting news. What's happening and

(43:09):
what is coming here shortly that we're going to find
out about is also exciting. And like I said, I've
got to give it out to the folks at the
High Valley ball in the Kafara Company who are thinking
outside the box of ideas to bring here to the
High Valley because they are working it and they're working

(43:31):
hard to bring us something new and something different. So listen,
I gotta give it to him. Got to give it
to him. It's eight fifteen on this Friday. Yes, ladies
and gentlemen, we made it to Friday. I'm excited for
the weekend. I hope you are too. But before we're out,
we've got more chances for you to win. This morning,
We've got tickets to George Thurgood coming up, so stay

(43:53):
tuned for those. And speaking of entertainment, Howard Carnell with
West Bank Arena and Capitol Theater will be joining us
now to talk about what's coming up at both venues.
You're listening to the bloo Daddy Experience, samon OTAs News
Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Happy Friday, Welcome back to bloom

(44:20):
Daddy Experience, samon OTAs News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. It's
not just the two of us now joining us now
Howard Carnell with the West Banco Arena, and of course
right here at Capitol Theater. We've been hitting heavy on
entertainment today. But before we get into everything going on
at both venues that you're here to talk about, I'm
gonna put it right to you. Our fun question for

(44:41):
our Friday is favorite three baseball movies of all time?

Speaker 8 (44:46):
Yeah, that's great.

Speaker 4 (44:47):
I'll put you right on the spot.

Speaker 8 (44:48):
Okay, we can do it. Well, I'm gonna go Obviously,
everybody's probably gonna have this on the list. Field of
Dreams is a great movie baseball movie. To the point
where they the location that they did it and actually
built a real stadium. That's amazing. I'd say Field of
Dreams Bull Durham has got to be one of the

(45:09):
top comedies in baseball and then obviously major leagues. You know,
everybody just laughs. Bob Uker being involved in anything is funny,
and he made that funny, but it's it's sort of
interesting that there are that many baseball movies out there.
There are so many that I didn't even mention, but

(45:31):
I'd say those are the three that I've seen and
would sit down and watch again.

Speaker 4 (45:36):
Well, I get Bill on Facebook commented, you said, Field
of Dreams. Bill, I want to highlight your note to us.
Before losing my dad a year and a half ago,
his three choices were the Natural, Major League, and the
Bad News Bears. We haven't mentioned.

Speaker 8 (45:49):
Place that's been done twice.

Speaker 4 (45:52):
That's two listeners. Now that's gotten to you as they
pulled one out. He did mention though, that after losing
my dad and having three sons of his own, nothing
compares to Field of Dreams. Tears like a faucet every
time I think a lot. I think a lot of
fathers can can relate to that.

Speaker 8 (46:07):
Yeah, that's awesome and you know, as shame. Yeah right,
we lost James Earl Jones out of that.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
Recently, and well Bob Bucker was Bucher was Major League.

Speaker 8 (46:18):
But yeah, it's a lot of good baseball movies and
a great baseball movies, you know, League of their Own,
which was unique in the way they did it and
another great actor and Tom Hanks in it. And you know,
baseball it carries more of that nostalgia than any of
the other pro sports, I think, and that's what really
sort of tugs at you, especially on field or dreams.

Speaker 4 (46:42):
Well, he and I've talked about it. That's one reason
we're the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and I think
that's one of the reasons it does so well. Why
are you laughing? Just go okay, it does so well
on radio. Is that the nostalgic aspect to it? Because
you know, who doesn't have a story of sitting and

(47:02):
listening to a baseball game on your front porch or
patio with your grandma or your grandpa or you know,
everybody has a story like that.

Speaker 8 (47:10):
So, you know, we got away from the radio aspect
of sports for a while, but it's coming. Yeah, it is.
I've caught myself listening to so much more sports on
radio now and thinking back, this is the way to
experience a game if you're not there, you know, because
so many things play out into your imagination, and the

(47:34):
announcers that do the best job give you a bunch
of different ways to go with your own imagination. While
something's happening on the field. That is concrete and true.

Speaker 4 (47:43):
I've always called it doing radio as long as I
have theater of the mind. Yeah, you create your own
imagery within your head listening to it.

Speaker 8 (47:51):
And you know, the funny thing is the theater of
the mind. That's a great description of baseball on radio.
Until you hear that ball hit the bat. You can
hear it on radio every time. You just hear that knock, yep,
and then you're like, okay, it's in play.

Speaker 4 (48:06):
The knock of the bat is very about the same
sound when you hear the squeak of the tennis shoes
on a basketball court.

Speaker 8 (48:12):
Oh right, good point.

Speaker 4 (48:14):
You can't imitate those two sounds. You can't imitate it.
But speaking of theater, let's get to what you're here for.

Speaker 8 (48:19):
Yeah, sure, yeah, thanks for having me again. We've got
some things going coming up here soon at both locations,
actually here at the Theater. The big one coming up
next week that we have we have Terry Clark coming
in and one of the additions that happened this week
that we're very excited to offer to everybody and wheeling

(48:40):
is actually one of our own is now on the schedule,
and that is Carly Greer, who attended Wheeling Park High School,
played softball up there with my daughter while we were
there and got to see her play a lot of softball,
get to know her and her family very well. She
is now a country music singer and just rising through

(49:01):
the ranks. She'll sing with Crandall Creek often, and she's
going to come in and open up for us next Thursday.
So all of you folks out there that know Carly,
went to school with her, or watched her play softball,
or have seen her sing since, come down and get
some tickets. She'll open up next Thursday.

Speaker 4 (49:22):
That's how they get their start.

Speaker 8 (49:23):
Oh yeah, and she's great gigs for people. Yeah, as
great as she can sing. She's that good of a
young lady, really great kid, and we're excited to have
her open up for Terry Clark. In all honesty, I'm
not much of a country music fan, so I don't know. Yeah,
I don't know Terry Clark. Through the songs that I

(49:44):
rolled through, I recognized one, but everyone talks about how
good she is. One of the other things that we're
going to try for that show, excuse me, is we
have a young lady here in the valley who has
a cowboy hat business. She makes cowboy hats. Her name's
Betsy Dale Hats and she is going to be up

(50:04):
in the ballroom from five to seven before the show,
just showing what she has made or what she can produce.
So if you're coming to the show, make sure you
come down a little early, go upstairst Oar ballroom, have
something to eat and a drink, and check out everything
that Betsy has available for you.

Speaker 4 (50:23):
Yeah, I'm glad you brought her up. She had a
special pre thing last night and I went to it.
Oh nice, How was it was? It was lovely, and
you know she's she's a real artist. And you hear hats,
you hear cowboy hats, but there is some artistry. There
is a lot of artistry behind what she's doing and
really nice stuff. So you having her at the Terry

(50:45):
Clark show, great idea. You got to check out what
she has to offer because it's gorgeous. Even if you're
not a hat wearing person, it's it's definitely worth it.

Speaker 5 (50:53):
Will they be for sale for sale?

Speaker 8 (50:56):
I would think she probably will, or if not, take
orders if there's something you want on especially well, if.

Speaker 5 (51:04):
They're custom I mean, yeah, right, that's what I was
looking for.

Speaker 8 (51:07):
Custom.

Speaker 4 (51:08):
Yeah, they're customly designed, and she does great work. And
speaking of Terry Clark, next month, coming up on Monday,
she's going to be joining our very own Corey Klug
on our sister station w OVK, so you can kind
of hear right from her what she plans on doing
right here at the Capitol Theater. Howard, can you stick
around with us?

Speaker 5 (51:24):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (51:24):
Sure, because we haven't even touched It's not like you've
got anything else to do.

Speaker 8 (51:29):
I gotta look up more baseball movies, definitely the Boss.

Speaker 5 (51:33):
We got plenty of country music for you to standpoint
here too.

Speaker 8 (51:36):
Yeah. I do need to learn more of that, that's
for sure.

Speaker 4 (51:39):
And of course we got coming up tickets to see
George Throgid. It's eight twenty eight on your Friday. You're
listening to the bloom Daddy Experience. Sam and Otis News
Radio eleven seventy WWVA. We are back at eight thirty
six on your Friday. I asked him to stickle around

(52:02):
because we haven't even gotten to half the stuff that's happening.

Speaker 8 (52:06):
It was Meg, Yeah, and't that nice? Yeah. The schedules
at both facilities or are really full. And the nice
thing is if one isn't real busy, the other one is,
so there's always something downtown we can talk about.

Speaker 4 (52:21):
And the other part is the variety.

Speaker 8 (52:22):
Yeah exactly.

Speaker 4 (52:23):
I mean we hit on Terry Clark, so we've got
Country that's coming up next Thursday. Then we've got Jason Bonham,
who we did take a giveaways for a couple of
weeks ago, the son of the drummer from led z
up Plain John Bonham's son.

Speaker 8 (52:39):
Yeah, And I was able to talk to him the
other day for about fifteen minutes and he was it
was really I was really happy with it afterwards. Really
down the earth, friendly guy, not that musical entitlement kind
of thing that you worry about sometimes, and a really
interesting guy. One of the cool things about the show

(53:03):
is it's a fiftieth anniversary of Physical Graffiti. Many consider
it led Zeppelin's best album, and they're gonna play it
from start to finish as part of the show in
honor of the fiftieth anniversary. But yeah, really excited about that.
He's If you're out there at google Jason Bonham and

(53:24):
take a look at the list of who's who he's
played with, I think everybody in the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame. Honestly, it is unbelievable. He's been a
session player for so many different people in and Nancy
Wilson from Hart and obviously the three remaining members of
Led Zeppelin he's played with. That was an interesting part

(53:46):
of the interview.

Speaker 5 (53:47):
Guys.

Speaker 8 (53:48):
He said that when he was a kid playing with
them after his father had passed, he didn't really think
much about it. Wasn't any big deal, wasn't nervous. It
was just all the guys he grew up around. The
last time they played in two thousand and seven, he
was an adult, and that's when the pressure sort of
hit him that he was a little bit nervous. As

(54:09):
more of a of an adult, he felt the pressure
he had more than as a kid.

Speaker 4 (54:14):
Yeah, he had the adult perspective.

Speaker 8 (54:17):
Yeah, I didn't want to let him down. But really
interesting guy. I hear that the music and the other
musicians with him are as high level as he is
as well. So that's on May seventh, So it's here
at the Capitol, which again a great venue for that
kind of music, you know, with the acoustics here and whatnot, so.

Speaker 4 (54:39):
That we're not done with May yet because May twenty second,
there happens to be a big show at the arena.

Speaker 8 (54:44):
Exactly. We're very excited to have Brantley Gilbert coming into
West Banco Arena. That's one of the big ones that
were really trying to push and get a good attendance to.
That's May twenty second. That's a Thursday night. Yeah, we night.
But take a look at it. See if you got
an extra vacation day and take Friday or at least

(55:05):
a half a day. Yeah, right, and take that off
because that'll yeah, because you know what, that rolls you
into Memorial Day weekend. So right, No, I mean, seriously,
this is really cool. We sat down and really took
a look at it. Because that's Thursday night. You take
Friday off and then you're off until Tuesday. You have
a great start to a long weekend. And what we're

(55:27):
gonna do before Brantley even hits the stage, Bill's towing.
A friend of ours is agreed yesterday to be a
sponsor of a pre party in the street. Water Street
open to the public, and we're gonna shut the street
down at four o'clock. We plan to block off Water
Street just north of Waterfront Haul with a Bill's Towing

(55:52):
tow truck. And then we're gonna block the other end
off down in front of the arena by Nailor's Way
with a Bill's Towing tow truck and then food trucks.
DJ will have a bar outside open to the public
and just have a big party.

Speaker 4 (56:09):
So you're kicking off the concert and kicking off the
long holiday weekend.

Speaker 8 (56:12):
Absolutely, Hey, however you want to do it right, Yeah,
but come down do that and then come in and
see the show. Colt Ford is going to be the
opening act for Brandley Gilbert and then Brandley Gilbert will
come on. Doors will open at six that night, So
after work, you know, that would be a great one.
If you work in town, just leave your car, walk down.

(56:36):
You can get dinner and a couple of drinks, go
to the show and then head home from there instead
of going home and trying to come back.

Speaker 4 (56:43):
Well, then on top of that, you end out round
out the month with country legend Travis Tritt. Here at
the Capitol, people are talking about that one like crazy.
Everybody asked me about Travis Trip.

Speaker 5 (56:55):
Having seen Travis Trip multiple times. Great show. He's a
great entertainer.

Speaker 8 (57:00):
Well, you know, it's sort of funny. It seems like
there's been a little bit of a dip or a
lull in the country part of acts here in the Valley,
which this is what we were known for at one time.
And so you take a look at May. We're really
taking a big, heavy swing to try to get that
country back in here and get people thinking, hey, wheeling

(57:22):
concerts country music. Yeah, for sure, So everybody into it,
grab some tickets, come down and see it. You're not
going to be disappointed by any of these country shows.

Speaker 4 (57:32):
Well, and then we were talking about the variety of things. Yeah,
so we just had announced Teresa Capudo.

Speaker 8 (57:41):
It's the Long Island Medium, I think is what it's called.

Speaker 4 (57:45):
Yeah, I asked you immediately. I want to interview her. Yeah,
because she's just wanted I find that stuff fascinating. She's
coming to the Capitol Theater. When is When is dad?

Speaker 8 (57:56):
That is August?

Speaker 5 (57:57):
Me let me look here, let me look.

Speaker 8 (58:03):
Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 4 (58:04):
Yep, yep, August. She got amazing hair. I will say that.

Speaker 8 (58:08):
Well, and you know that's the funny thing is that's
really We're gonna do a lot of visual stuff with
her because people wouldn't know the name. I don't know,
but they know the recognize her. And you know, my
as soon as my wife found out, I think that's
first time I ever saw her due cart wheels and handstands.
She was so excited. But and I know who she is.
I mean, she's got a show on what I don't know. Yeah,

(58:30):
it's not one of those, yeah, right, And she's very popular.
So that's going to be a big show. At the
end of June here at the Capitol, we have George
Thurroguod coming, so all you guys at the old eighties rockers.
I just read a list and guys who like music

(58:51):
always read lists. One of the top ten influential blues
guitarists out of the eighties, and thorough Good was on it.
So starting to some of his recognition that he deserves.

Speaker 5 (59:02):
It did a good win, which is we were talking
about it.

Speaker 8 (59:07):
Okay, never mind, No, we just announced and they just
went on sale yesterday for Elvis Costello.

Speaker 5 (59:14):
Yes, yeah, he's so excited. Pumped October seven, pump.

Speaker 8 (59:18):
Yeah, and that's a that's a great week. We got
a lot of that. You know, you want to talk
about diversity in that, take a look at what's going
to be at the Capitol that week, the week of October.
I'll start it on the seventh. I think the seventh
is a Tuesday or a Monday. But Elvis Costello is
here that week. Then we have the Vampire Circus.

Speaker 4 (59:40):
Well before that, you've got Monty Python.

Speaker 8 (59:42):
Well I think that is is after that, right, yep,
So you got Elvis Costello. Then you have Vampire Circus
that's sort of like Cirque the Slay and whatnot.

Speaker 4 (59:56):
They describe it as Slay meets Tim Burton's World.

Speaker 3 (01:00:00):
Oh there you go.

Speaker 8 (01:00:00):
Okay, that's the best way to describe it. And then
you have John Cleese coming and he's going to celebrate
the fiftieth anniversary of the Holy Grail. Right, yeah, that's
going to be here. So you know, when you were
mentioning Sam the diversity of these shows, boy, you hit
a very diverse sort of schedule just in that week.

(01:00:22):
And that's in October. So really, our executive director, Kelly
Tucker is really putting together a very diverse schedule so
that if there's something you really like, you got to
get on our schedule, whether it's on West Banco Arena
dot com or Capitol Theater Wheeling dot com and take

(01:00:44):
a look at it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:45):
That's what I was going to ask you. What if
somebody right now is listening and they're thinking, you know,
what about this? What about that? Will you take suggestions
or like a wish list from from people out there?

Speaker 8 (01:00:56):
That absolutely I'd love to hear it. No that we
can't guarantee anything. We don't know about the promoters, et cetera.
But I'd love to hear what people are interested and
they want to want to see. Email me. It's h
K A R N E. L. L. Hcarnell at West

(01:01:17):
Bancorena dot com. Send them over.

Speaker 3 (01:01:20):
We'll try.

Speaker 4 (01:01:21):
Wonderful, wonderful And as I said, we have your chance
to win George Thurga tickets, so do you. We'll do
them at the end of the show, So stay tuned
for that. Listen, there's tons on the horizon. May is
James jam Pack starting next week with Terry Clark right
here at the Capitol. Howard, thank you so much.

Speaker 8 (01:01:39):
Yes, thanks for having me, guys. I always appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (01:01:42):
Costello, baby, you got it.

Speaker 8 (01:01:44):
I'll be there with you.

Speaker 5 (01:01:45):
Oh he may hug you.

Speaker 8 (01:01:46):
Yeah, I'll take it. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
Oh, you're listening to.

Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
The Bloom Dotty Experience. Otis and Sam News Radio eleven
seventy w w v A AY fifty one. Welcome back.
If you couldn't tell. In the last break, we have
the most excited version of Otis I've ever ever seen.

Speaker 5 (01:02:15):
Listen, Elvis Costellos on my wish list. He is he
was on my wish list.

Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
You're like like pumping the fist.

Speaker 5 (01:02:22):
Oh, like I've been trying to see I've been watching
for him to come to this area for like five years,
and I just he's like, I haven't seen him in Pittsburgh,
haven't seen any shows in Cleveland, and he's right here
and he's coming to Wheeling. And I was like, I
was like, well, I won't say that because I could.
You didn't even believe it, You didn't know. No, Like
I saw it last night on Facebook and I was

(01:02:42):
half asleep and I'm going, is that our Capital Theater?
And I'm looking at the post. I mean, like I said,
I'm half asleep and I'm like, Oh, that can't be ours.
That can't be I gotta make a phone call. I
gotta I gotta check this out in the morning. But
that's how I was speaking of checking things out in
the morning. What's going on, Kevin Cook, I just sending
her listen strawb Automotive.

Speaker 7 (01:03:02):
Yeah, that'll be fun.

Speaker 5 (01:03:04):
Yeah, little Buddy Holly kind of look alike.

Speaker 7 (01:03:07):
Yeah, some of the older stuff, it's just awesome.

Speaker 5 (01:03:10):
And that's what the show is based on, is based
on his early years. So that's at least that's what
I saw in my half half awake state last night.

Speaker 4 (01:03:18):
Well, yeah, we'll definitely talk about it more next time.
Howard joins us. All Right, Kevin, I've got to ask
you our fun question for today for our Friday, is
your top three baseball movies of all time? Yep, I'm
gonna put you on the spot.

Speaker 7 (01:03:35):
Uh Major League mm hmm.

Speaker 5 (01:03:38):
Okay, seems to be a consensus.

Speaker 7 (01:03:41):
Okay, Bull Durham.

Speaker 5 (01:03:43):
Again a consensus.

Speaker 7 (01:03:45):
And the Rookie, The Rookie.

Speaker 5 (01:03:47):
That's the one where the kids that's a little kid.
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, he's he's he's the school teacher
in baseball coach and ends up and pitching for Tampa Bay.
I believe. Yep, yeah, that's a that's a good move.
I totally forgot about that good movie. Yeah. I think
Disney did that movie, and it's a you know, even
though it's a you know, kind of a Disney movie,
it's a feel good story.

Speaker 7 (01:04:09):
Yeah, it's a feel good story.

Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
Anyways.

Speaker 4 (01:04:13):
Yeah, two thousand and two.

Speaker 5 (01:04:14):
So what's what's the story in Straw Automotive?

Speaker 7 (01:04:17):
Hey man? How about employee pricing. We've we've talked about
it off and on over the past few weeks. This
is tariff free employee pricing Krosso, dogeep Ram and it Ford.
You pay what the folks that work for the manufacturer's path.
All right. I don't know if you know it or not.
If you've been listening, you know this has not been

(01:04:39):
available to the public since two thousand and eight. All right,
don't miss this opportunity. It runs for sure for the
next five days. Uh. We've got a great selection at
all three of our stores, whether it's the Chrysto Doge
Seapram store right there in elm Grove or the one
in Glendale or Moundsville forward U. You can check out

(01:05:00):
all the pricing online. You just log into drivestop dot com.
You can see what the employee pricing is for yourself.
You can you know, send us information on your trade.
We can work to deal up with you sitting right
there at home on your computer. We can need to
deliver it to you right to your house, do all
the paperwork online. It's not going to be an easier
buying experience. There's no negotiating necessary. These are prices that

(01:05:23):
you know, I didn't think we'd ever see them again
after two thousand and eight. Okay, but here they are
all right, care free, don't miss it.

Speaker 5 (01:05:32):
I hate to say lazy. I don't like to use
the word lazy, but if you are the most unmotivated
person in America, you can shop for a car and
not have to leave your house.

Speaker 4 (01:05:41):
Convenient we find it a shopper.

Speaker 7 (01:05:45):
Yes, we talked about eighty five percent of the people
that shop for automobiles start start the process online. You know,
they go online, they check out, make sure you know
it's going to meet their needs. You know, they look
at you know, colors and trim levels and making sure
that that's exactly the vehicle that they want. And then
they reach out to us and you know, we get
the pricing for them. And most of the time, you know,

(01:06:06):
when people come up here for an appointment, it's just
to take delivery of the vehicle. Yeah, it's really really,
we're so simple, I mean, we make it so easy.

Speaker 5 (01:06:15):
So Ford Ford started the employee pricing a couple of
weeks ago, right, and now Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram has
followed suit. Yes, and is that something that the that
you see that most of the major auto makers douse
the one does it and then the rest fall in line?

Speaker 7 (01:06:30):
Or yeah, I mean you know, you kind of have
to when somebody puts there, you know, uh, somebody really
gets into game like that and they want to dominate
the market, and you know, the other manufacturers have got
to step up. You can't, you can't, you know, you cannot.
Very competitive, very competitive market out there. And uh and
now it's definitely a buyer's market for sure. Again, take

(01:06:53):
advantage of no tearf pricing on everything that we got
out there where there's Cross the dogep Ram, Ford, Honda, Hunting,
you know, or even the pre on cars. You know,
ter free parts on those right now, so come check
them out.

Speaker 5 (01:07:05):
All right, my man, enjoy your weekend. I will y'all
all right, have a good one. There, he goes Kevin Cook, lazy,
I said, no, unmotivated, I know, I know, I said unmotivated.

Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
I know, I know.

Speaker 5 (01:07:18):
I have a friend of mine that claims he is
I'm not lazy, I'm just I'm the most unmotivated man
in America.

Speaker 4 (01:07:25):
He goes along with the the what was the all
the beer guy? That's such and such.

Speaker 5 (01:07:33):
From do Yes, yes, the most interesting man.

Speaker 4 (01:07:37):
Yes, this guy your friends the opposite, he's most unmotivated.
Going back to our question for this Friday, Dave on
Facebook said, for love of the Game, major League and
the fan.

Speaker 5 (01:07:52):
I don't don't remember the fan.

Speaker 4 (01:07:53):
I don't remember the fan. Okay, I was hoping you would.

Speaker 5 (01:07:56):
So I bumped eight men out out of my top three,
and I had to put the stand lot in there.
I totally forgot about Fielda Dreams. So that's gonna be.
That's gonna be tied for three, maybe might be tied
for two. My number two is Bull Durham and number
one is for love of the Game. All three, three
of my three of them are all Kevin Costner movies.

(01:08:16):
And that's not because that's not why, but Kevin Costner
just does great baseball movies.

Speaker 4 (01:08:21):
Between the late eighties in the early two thousand. Is
if there was a baseball movie or a Western. Kevin
Costner was sing to be in the top of the list.
The Fan was from nineteen ninety six and it was
a psychological thriller starring Robert de Niro and Wesley Snipe.

Speaker 5 (01:08:38):
I kind of remember the movie, but I didn't. I
didn't realize it was a baseball movie.

Speaker 4 (01:08:42):
Yeah. Wait, I didn't realize it was.

Speaker 5 (01:08:44):
Yeah, let's give these tickets away.

Speaker 4 (01:08:46):
Oh yeah, George throw a good pair of tickets. One
in hundred sixty two four eleven seventy, one hundred sixty
two four eleven seventy. You pick the number.

Speaker 5 (01:08:54):
Caller number sixteen.

Speaker 4 (01:08:55):
Caller number sixteen for George throw good. Everybody, it's Friday. Hey,
we're done. You're starting your day. My apologies, but you
know what, The weekend's here. Enjoy it. We'll talk to
you on Monday.
