Speaker 1 (00:01):
The number one tuck show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain, and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Ah, is it Friday? No, No, it's not. Oh, it
is Thursday seven o six. The bloom Daddy Experience. Sam
and otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
As our friend Amanda Verrier would say, it's Friday, Junior.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
Friday Junior. I like that, we're pregaming for Friday. No,
otis you said it this morning? This week is uh,
this week is dragging? Yes, yes it is. It is
moving along. I don't know why. I don't know why
it feels that way, but it does. You said that.
(01:00):
I was like, Yes, you hit the nail on the
head with that one, because I cannot agree more. But
we are coming up on a holiday weekend. It is
coming closer and closer and closer, and I am definitely
looking forward to that. Let's kick off the show this
morning with some local news. An update here drug overdose deaths.
(01:23):
Drug overdose deaths are declining in the US, according to
the CDC, there were thirty thousand fewer drug overdose deaths
in twenty twenty four, marking the largest one year decline
ever recorded. Experts say more research needs to be done
to understand what drove the reduction, but mentioned several possible factors,
(01:45):
including increased availability of overdose reversing drug in the lock zone,
expanded addiction treatment, and shifts in how people use drugs. However,
annual overdose deaths are higher than they were before the
COVID nineteen pandemic. Louisiana, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, Virginia, and
(02:06):
West Virginia, Wisconsin. In Washington, d C. Also all saw
overdose deaths fall by at least thirty five percent. So
Ohio and West Virginia we have great news, a thirty
five percent drop in overdose deaths.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
I find it interesting.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
I struggled through that, but I got it.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
I find it interesting that the experts uh huh.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
I can't. I can guess where you're going.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Say they're having a hard time to figure out what
drove the reduction. But the factors are availability of the
Locke zone and expanded addiction treatment. Shifts, our centers and
shifts and drug use. No mention of like the fact
that we've cut how many border crossings, the illegal border
(02:57):
crossings down? Do they not want them?
Speaker 2 (03:00):
No? No, no, no, no, you can't. You can't say that.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
I just I mean, I'm not saying that that's the
only reason, but I'm saying it probably you know, I'm
gonna say that it probably plays a factor.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
I yes, I would tend to agree with you on that.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
And it could be it could be a little bit
of all of the above. But to leave that out, yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
I just find it it's very convenient.
Speaker 3 (03:26):
I find it just quite comical, to be honestly. I mean,
the fact that you can't admit that something's working.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
What was this? What were the statistics January and February
we saw a border crossing drop of like ninety eight
percent or some crazy number. Do you imagine that. Imagine
if you put in rules and regulations, and you put
in I don't know, security measures that it's not an
(03:58):
open gate, not only for human beings but for drugs.
Imagine that if you put some sort of effort behind
not allowing this to happen, we see changes. I will
say this though, I also believe a lot of the
drug spikes were, of course due to fentanyl, which was
the largest drug that we saw coming across the border
(04:21):
under the Biden administration. But I also believe along with that,
there's been a lot of education in regards to fentanyl,
because prior to the border situation, in the influx of
drugs that we saw, I was not familiar with fentanyl.
It was not you mean, you heard about cocaine, you
(04:44):
heard about heroin, but it was fentanyl became the top
poster child for the border crisis. I was not very
familiar with it until then, am I it was.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Let me just say this as a as a member
of the general public, and I don't mean that is
a is a disrespectful comment. The odds are you probably
wouldn't know about it where I am. In my other job,
we would go to trainings and we were I was
I probably was introduced to fentanyl, you know, as far
(05:23):
as like the effects of it and everything else, probably
twenty fourteen fifteen, you know. So, I mean, it's been
a I've been. It's been a I've been. I've been
aware of fentanyl for at least ten ten years, probably
if not more.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
But you're right when it comes to the general public.
I think it became top of mind awareness in conjunction
with the border crisis. Yes, but because of that border crisis,
and it took to twenty twenty four, late twenty four
to now for there to be more conversation, more education,
and with that education became it led two more caution
(06:02):
for drug users. You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
Yeah, I mean, I mean in my other job, I've
seen I've seen things that probably aren't I mean, they're
available to the public, but if you're not looking for it,
you're not going to find it.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
If you're not part of that world, right or if.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
You're if it's not something that's that affected you, you
you wouldn't even know about it. But like, it's real
bad in the Philadelphia area. Oh yeah, And what it
is is they're taking there's a there's a horse drug
and they're mixing it with I can't remember it's it's
been a year, so I don't remember exactly what they're
mixing it with. But basically what it does is when
you inject this into your system, it gives you a high,
(06:41):
and but the narcan won't reverse the effects because it's
it's not an opioid and they're still there, breaking into
veterinary clinics and everything else, and they're they're mixing it
with the drug and when after they shoot it up,
if they if they've done it for a while, like
it almost it gives them like open sores, almost like
(07:03):
they have leprosy. Oh god, yeah, so.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Is that the I've mentioned this before, the videos that
circulate on social media. It's I think we've talked about
the streets of Philadelphia. I think it's called and they
look like zombies, the people.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
But yeah, I mean, I'm just trying to I can't
think of the name of it.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
It's a horse tranquilizer, isn't it.
Speaker 3 (07:25):
It's like I said, it's a horse droug. I couldn't
remember exactly what. And they mix it with something but
it's not fentanyl, and it's not it's that they don't
mix it with heroin or it's not they don't mix
it with an opioid. They mix it with something else
and then the next thing you know, it gives them
a high. And that's what they're saying. Like because the
narcan or the the lock zone is set up for opioids.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
It's not set to it's reverse those effects. Yeah, if
you if you've ever seen any of those videos, they
are they're shocking that these are actual human beings. Honestly,
the way that they can their their body is contorted
and and they're they're standing, but yet they're asleep. It's
(08:10):
it's bizarre, honest to god, it is like something out
of the Walking Dead. That's what these images remind you of.
And it is human beings on the street of one
of our major cities here in the United States. It's
it's unbelievable that those images happen here in the United States,
(08:35):
and it's it's incredibly unfortunate, incredibly unfortunate. But they are
some disturbing images. But Ohio and West Virginia some good news.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
They call it trank or xylazine, trank or.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
Zy lazine, and so the that's what the street name
for it.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
And I guess they are mixing it with fentanyl. I'm
just looking here real quick. The eave reports widespread thread
or feanylm mixed with zy lausine. Uh, that's the tranquilizer.
And I'm sure I don't know what else what's going
on here, but it's anyway.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
We're anyway, no no, No, that's okay. I just I couldn't.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
Yeah, and it's just I mean, the bottom line is
if you obviously drug drug abuses is not, you know,
something we want to we want to talk about it,
but we don't want to dwell on it.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
No, no, no, and no.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
But but there are things out there, and you know,
you do have to be careful and just be careful
what the latest fad is, because if once you get
to that point, you're always you're not looking for the
high anymore, You're looking for the maintain and that's what
that A lot of your open users will do that.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
And then and the drug people, the drug cartels, the
evil people in this world. They keep making them stronger
and stronger and more addictive and more addictive. Unfortunately. It's
seven sixteen. We return on downtown Wheeling. You're listening to
the blim Daddy Experience. Sam and Otis News Radio eleven
seventy wwvs. Seven twenty one. Welcome back to the blim
(10:15):
Daddy Experience. Otis and Sam News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Just a follow up a little bit on our prior
subject in regards to the drop in the overdose numbers
that we saw. We got a message from listener Drew.
He brought up the fact that in the story we
talked about the deaths dropping from the year of twenty
twenty four and said Trump wasn't president in twenty twenty
(10:38):
four and border crossings were rampant, So I'm not sure
if the border played much of a factor. If that's
the case, I agree and I disagree there a little bit.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Drew.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
Yes, Trump was not, of course president in twenty twenty four,
but at that point in time, we were starting to
see border numbers begin to drop, and because we were
going into what hopefully at that point in time, we
were praying a new administration, we did see a lot
of changes happening, and at that point in time, the
(11:11):
leaders were trying to make a lot of changes too
slow and continue to slow the border crossings. So I
kind of agree and with you also Drew there, but
you are right, in twenty twenty four, President Trump was
not the president at that point in time. Some local
things wanted to bring up. We talked about this a
(11:32):
couple weeks ago. Otis when we started to see spring
come in and things were growing, and of course that
is the maintenance of the streetscape here in downtown Wheeling,
particularly right now Main Street where we sit because the
work is done on Main Street. Market of course is
still being worked on and they are going through the
(11:53):
headaches that we were going through last year at this time.
But one of the big biggest questions that people have
been having is, you know, the the vegetation of the
landscaping has been done here on Main Street, but it
was done and they were gone. There's been no maintenance.
(12:14):
There's been no pulling of the weeds, just as simply
as that any caretaking of the look and to continue
to keep the the landscaping, keep it up basically. Well,
yesterday city officials did announce that starting yesterday, the city
(12:36):
is now going to take over the maintenance of the
plants on Main Street, and that was part of according
to the original contract, the state would maintain it for
one year. That one here has come and gone for
Main Street and now the city will take over the responsibility.
And that includes watering the plants, printing the trees, and
of course all around general cleanup. But they also want
(12:59):
to know let everybody know, for the business owners, it's
not their responsibility to maintain the landscaping. In front of
their business. They are open to any suggestions by the
business owners if they would like to be a part
of that. This is good news. Waiting to see something happen.
I did see a couple gentlemen last week working on
(13:23):
one of the beds that were that's down the hill
from us here on Main Street. They were doing some things.
Is the what was it a pacifier? Otis that you?
Is it gone?
Speaker 3 (13:32):
It wasn't as of last week. I haven't checked today.
I haven't checked this week.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
It's a lot of work. One thing. Listen, people agree,
people disagree with what they've done on Main Street. I
will say this, at least something is being done with
the streetscape thrilled with the jet outs no me, neither
me neither, or the depth of a lot of the planters.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
Well, some of the planters like they've put the dirt
in and they've put the plant in, especially on Market Street,
and it's like it's eight inches from the top of
the thing, I mean or better. Oh, they're like caves
you could drop you could drop in and twist an
ankle or do something. I mean, it's just you know,
I mean, I understand sometimes the dirt settles and maybe
(14:23):
maybe you had it at the top and maybe it's
settled after some time. But it's just like, hmm, you
might put some more dirt.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
In well between put between the depth of some of
these planters. And we said that a while ago. Is
you know how much financial cost is it going to
be to redo the mulch every year to refill They're
so deep, it's a lot of space to fill. But
(14:52):
I have seen people trip on the height of some
of the the the corners, the concrete. It just seems
some of the details are a bit extreme.
Speaker 3 (15:09):
Well, I had a friend of mine tell me the
other day that after it rained, and it's some of
the sidewalks on Main Street and I don't know, I'm
not I think it's down in the in the area
of fourteenth Street. So the water is supposed to they've
they allegedly set it up so that the water runs
into these planners and then everything else. It's not necessarily
(15:31):
running into the planners, it's stagnating on the sidewalk and
in the winter time that's going to freeze and it's
just gonna be it's gonna be a skating drink.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Well, here's what I don't understand when they designed the
water runoff like you said it is, it is directed
to go into the planters because allegedly so, and then
inside those if you look closely, there's this rounded dome
that kind of makes me think of the top of
rain R two D two right, and it's got a
great well. It can't take a lot of that runoff
(16:03):
in the amount that sometimes the rain falls. Then you
put on top of that the right smack in the
middle of the planters, which are filled with mulch. That
mulch then gets pushed towards that grated head and it
covers up the grates, it blocks it basically, so then
that water is then forced back out onto the street.
(16:26):
It's just not the best design.
Speaker 3 (16:30):
I don't a lot of factors that weren't factored.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Yeah, yeah, it's just not just not the best the
best design. But along with that, just wanted to let
everybody know it's back. The Wheeling Feeling Chili Cookoff is returning.
The twenty fifth annual event is set for June seventh,
right down at Heritage Port, so hopefully all of the
beautiful landscaping on Main Street and downtown Wheeling will be

for the twenty twenty five ICs World Cookoff and World
Food Championships. You can participate. All you have to do
is register at Chili Cookoff dot com. There you go. Otis, No,
not that one, not that one. Alright, alright, it is
seven twenty eight. You're listening to the Bloom Daddy Experience.
(17:19):
Sam and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA, welcome back.
It is seven thirty six. You're listening to the Bloom
Daddy Experience. I'm Sam, He's Otis, and that music just
always makes me want to do a little do a
little diddy. It makes me think of summertime. You know
(17:40):
what was released yesterday, The NFL schedules for this upcoming
season got me to thinking about football, which took me to,
of course, the High Valley Ironmen, which is kicking off.
They're kicking off their season here shortly. So I wanted
to bring you our interview with general manager Manny Matsakis
because listen, it's interesting and if you love football, you
(18:01):
don't want to miss this interview I'm excited to welcome
on with me this morning, mister Manny, Matt Sack, Matt Seck.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Good. What is it with you and Nane?
Speaker 2 (18:13):
I don't know. I don't know, but of course he
is the CEO of the Ohio Valley iron Man and
I got to meet you about a month or so
ago at a chamber event. We got talking football and
everything that you're doing. So I thought, you know, we've
got to have you on the show.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
I appreciate it. I can tell you're a big football fan.
I was listening in the last hour some of the stuff.
Oh definitely, you know, I've got some opinions on like
the female broadcasters and stuff like that.
Speaker 2 (18:42):
You were talking about, what about the the little the
football versus baseball excitement.
Speaker 4 (18:48):
That's a very.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
He is not a ringer, fyi otis. I didn't bring
him in as a ringer for.
Speaker 4 (18:57):
Is like a real thinking man's game. I guess, you know,
it's a you know, it's a lot there's a lot
of hidden strategy behind the in action during the game,
you know, but you can drink beers and enjoy you know, beer,
an inning it's at any game can be pretty fun.
So that's how I look at it.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
That's how long they how long they last the inning?
But no, this is fantastic. I'm so glad to have
you in because, first of all, let's just jump into
why the Ohio Valley? Why bring a football team to
the Ihio Valley?
Speaker 4 (19:32):
Well, it was the last minute deal. I mean, the
league that was was at that point growing and they
needed one more team. We were we were. They called me.
A good friend of mine called me. Actually, he's the
head coach of the San Antonio team. How mommy was
the head coach at the University of Kentucky. And he says, hey,
(19:53):
I'm coaching in this league. We've got some really good coaches.
And initially they wanted me to coach just somewhere else,
And I said, I just bought a house in Shadyside.
My twelve year old son loves it, and we're not leaving.
Speaker 2 (20:06):
Because you're a native of shady Set.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
Absolutely. Yeah, So, I mean I think that was the
genesis of it. Then all of a sudden, in about
forty eight hours, it goes from I'm not going to
some place down south to hey, you know, how is
he spoke at a clinic a coaching clinic I had
here years ago when I had a magazine for the area.
(20:31):
It was a preseason football magazine, and how came and spoke.
We did a deal over at casino and we had
a great crowd of coaches and all the people. He
goes many how about that area where you're at He goes,
and we're buddies. He knows my affinity for it. And
then I said, yeah, well, I'll tell you this. There
was once upon a time when I was five six
(20:51):
years old. My dad we lived in Warwood at the time,
and we he used to take me up to the
Ironman games. And so I explained to them what how
big football is in the area, and they just said, what,
how can that be? I said, yeah, I would look
at it. Even though you other teams are in Tampa
and San Antonio, all these big cities, we would be
(21:15):
the green Bay Packers of your league.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
That's a great comparison.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Yeah, I mean think about it. Would we even have
thought about the city of Green Bay had they not
had the Packers? You know? So I think that that's
the beauty of this. You know, there was the initial
part of where we're going to play? What are we
going to do you know that? So it's been like
drinking through a fire hose, Sam, I mean, I'll be honest.
So it's a lot going on.
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Well, and I love the tie to the tradition because
you mentioned the Wheeling Ironman, and you know, a lot
of the times you talk to a lot of old
timer football fans around here, and that is what they
bring up. They bring up the wheeling Ironman. I was
lucky enough when I started my career here at the
radio stations. I got to work with mister Clyde Thomas.
Speaker 3 (21:58):
Oh, let's just exactly.
Speaker 2 (22:00):
And that's the reaction you always get. And if correct me,
if I'm wrong, he is actually on the exterior of
TJ's correct. Yes, okay, that's what I thought. That's what
I thought. So, you know, the tradition is there, the
history is there, and the fact that you have taken
the Wheeling Ironman and created the Ohio Valley Ironman, that
tie is perfect. It's absolutely perfect.
Speaker 4 (22:22):
Could I give you a little history on that?
Speaker 2 (22:24):
Absolutely?
Speaker 4 (22:25):
Okay. So I am by nature a sports historian, especially
in football. And what's interesting about the whole Ironman is
it started in nineteen sixty two, the year I was
born and it actually became something. There's a Greek like
a construction worker in the Eric named Mike Vallen, and
(22:49):
Mike was really good friends with Art Rooney with the Steelers.
They used to get together on the island, okay for
what you do on the island, And one thing led
to another, and the story goes that Rooney says, look,
I'll give you your helmets, your shoulder pads, your uniforms,
(23:09):
and you are going to be our farm team. So
there's all types of of time. Many times in the
sixties where a Steeler would get injured, they'd bring an
Ironman up to play on Sunday, and then when the
guy got healthy, then they brought him back down. But
the Steelers and the Ironman played at a similar time
in the fall, right, so it was easy. And a
(23:32):
lot of those guys were former They would teach during
the day like a wheeling central or you know wherever,
like Jakobsavsky was teaching and then and then he was
and he was playing, and these guys were like local legends.
It got to the point that nineteen sixty eight, after
a pretty successful run and a lot of great players
(23:53):
you know that went through like Bob Dunlevy, and my goodness,
there's some there's some legendary guys, right remember that got
John Amos, you know, was one good times. It's just
it was pretty interesting. All these guys came through. So
in sixty eight they after a little bit of a
slow run, they lost every game one season, and Sam
Weish was the quarterback by the way, okay, and who
(24:17):
ended up being the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals.
So at the end then they switched from Wheeling Ironman
to Ohio Valley Ironman in their last two years. And
what was interesting for me is the head coach was
my father's defensive coordinator at Powhattan High School, a guy
named Lou Blumling, who ended up being one of the
top executives in a scouting group for the NFL called Blesto,
(24:44):
which Betweans Bears, Lions, Eagles, that's that's the acronym. And
when I was playing college ball, he'd always I didn't
know him real well, but he'd always like come around
my games and everything. And I did get drafted by
the Philadelphia Eagles after college, so it was I think
he had something to do with that. So I have
an affinity towards it, and five years ago, Sam I
(25:07):
just went and I said, you know, I'm going to
buy the rights to the name Wheeling Ironman or Hive
el Arom because I was just going to do a website.
So I've got the high La Ironman dot com. I've
had that for five years and I've just sworn away.
I wanted to make a tribute to all these legends
growing up and then all of a sudden this hits
and I think back and I'm like, oh my, I
(25:28):
have tons of notes and all kinds of great like
this is the history of it to the point where
here's a bit of information that most people don't know.
In nineteen sixty nine, now we're talking Vietnam, so that's
going on, and the Continental Football League folded because there
just weren't enough men to play anymore. Right, So what
(25:50):
ends up happening is they petitioned and were one vote
away from joining the Canadian Football League. Or we were
the only team, the Ironman. We're the only team that
was that was talking about going on because back in
that those years, the Continental Footall League had a team
in Toronto, the Rifles in Montreal. They were all we
(26:10):
all played this international North American League and we missed
it by one vote. And we haven't had you know,
there's been a little fora here and there and outdoor football,
but it's exciting. Wow, you know wow about it.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
Seems like it well and it's amazing that it all
tied together like almost randomly. You know, some may college
and says, hey, we want to do this, but we're
gonna can you can you hang around? We haven't even
gotten into what we want. We love talking football. Here
we go, but we're gonna jump to a quick great
(26:49):
you know, jumping back in time. We're talking football this morning,
but we're talking a high Valley Ironman football and joining
us in studio, we're going to continue this conversation with
Manny the CEO and head coach. Correct yea, all right,
so you were talking about the original wheeling Ironman before
the break. I just wanted to ask real quick, are
(27:09):
you doing have you heard from family members, former players?
Are you going to do anything special during your season?
All that?
Speaker 4 (27:18):
Yeah, it's amazing what social media gives you the opportunity
to meet certain people, right like Clyde Thomas's son, right
has reached out right We've got there's Tom Gula, who's
I think is his grandpa was Chung Gula was the
equipment guy there and helped the staff coaching and all that.
So and there's a bunch, there's a lot of people.
(27:40):
So we're actually our director of media is we're working together,
Joe Myers and I are working on creating a Ring
of Honor. Oh okay, okay, So like in the stadium,
we'll put some signs up of here's Clyde Thomas, all
the great ones, so that when the future that's something
(28:02):
our guys now can aspire to be in the Ring
of Honor. So we'll be honoring guys and just start
putting out press releases on it.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
So with that being said, the the the thing is
you have these players that are that were original line Ironman,
and they're they're at that age where they're passing away. Sure,
and so I mean it's probably you know, I mean,
we just had John Amos pass away, Clyde Thomas has
(28:30):
passed away. I mean I know that there's people that
are still out there, Bob Dunlevy and so on the show.
But I mean it's it's night you're going to recognize
the history of the name.
Speaker 4 (28:40):
Yeah, it's it's to me. I mean, I mean maybe
I'm close, too close to the fire, but it's like,
those are the legends to me around here.
Speaker 3 (28:47):
Well, you know you're talking that was, you know, fifty
plus years ago, almost sixty years ago in some cases,
and you know that those guys were twenty five thirty
when they were playing. I mean that puts them in
their nineties.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
I mean, yeah, I understand that. I just think it's
a good time to do that, and I should have
been done a long time.
Speaker 3 (29:05):
I know, Bob dune Levey, Listen, sometimes, Bob, you're not
in your nineties, at least not yet. I know that.
Speaker 4 (29:10):
No, I definitely can't wait to meet him. He's he
is a legend.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Bob. Bob Son and I were roommates in college. Oh okay,
and my dad and Bob played a lot of summer
league basketball together.
Speaker 4 (29:20):
Okay, so awesome.
Speaker 2 (29:22):
Yeah, it's amazing how it all connects, doesn't it when
you run into people. So to the High Valley hired man, yea,
explain the game. Is this going? This is going to
be the football that we know? Correct, it's not indoor,
it's not short, it.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Is No, it's not Canadian football. It's not any crazy rules.
It's whatever the NFL does we do now. Am I
a real big fan of the new kickoff? No, However,
we got to get guys ready to play at the
in the National Football League. So we're going to do everything.
The receivers getting too, you know, two feet in on
(29:58):
a catch. I mean, the some of the rules like
that I could do in college. There's some things you
can't do in the NFL. So you know, like certain
kind of unbalanced lines, some of the technical stuff, which
is a big reason why you don't see, like in college,
you see these crazy offenses they're scoring something. Well, the
NFL it's different. Plus the hash marks are tighter, so
(30:20):
that makes the game different as well.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
So is there a direct connection to the NFL. No
separate league.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
Yeah, it is. It's a developmental league for the National
Football League. But the way I promote it, Sam is
when I'm out there signing free agents, the conversation is
this league that has a former tie to the National
Football League. I got, you know, Pittsburgh Steelers, and I
tell them the story we started off with and they're like,
oh wow, this is great, And I do have a
meeting up in Pittsburgh with their scouting department to say, hey, look,
(30:49):
we're going to be here, and I know they're going
to want to look at our quarterback because he's off
the charts.
Speaker 2 (30:55):
You've already had the draft.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Correct, Yeah, that was last Friday night.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Yeah, and how many players did you pick up through
the draft?
Speaker 4 (31:00):
Six? We had six players? The first guy to me,
I think the number one position on a team. Everybody
gets excited about the quarterback. We had him as the
first guy I got. But then is the offensive line,
because I don't know how good a quarterback you're if
you don't have the big boys up front. You know. Thus,
you know, we've labeled our offensive line the Iron Shield,
(31:24):
and that's where our man Dom de Felice told me that, hey,
we're going to work on a deal that he can
feed the feed the big boys.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Up front a great line. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
Well, I mean think about it. That's a great promo
and Dom makes great pizza. So here we go. So
it's like, you know, these guys average like sixty four
about three forty across the front. The first round draft
choice I took actually Uh ended up playing for the
University of Miami and then circuitously ended up at Jackson
State playing for Dion Sanders. He's a six foot seven,
(31:56):
three pounds tackle that should be in the national.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
Football And I just bet he can eat a lot
of pizza.
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Oh, there's no question. But the dom can cook it up. Man.
If you ever been to yeah, I don't want to
tell you where Don lives, but I've had some amazing
breakfasts up there, Like the guys get together, we get
up there. He's got the BATCHI balls out and it's
the best. He's awesome.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
So how many games in the season?
Speaker 4 (32:21):
Okay? Eight games? Okay, how many four home for away?
We're front loaded on home games. So our first game, well,
actually we have a preseason game, sam oh okay, yeah.
So we're gonna be playing a team that won two
national championships in semi pro ball out of Cincinnati. They're
actually going to be our farm team. So if we
(32:43):
need a player, they're going to bring him up. The
Cincinnati Dukes are coming in on Friday night, May twenty third,
so we're gonna run through. It's free, free for the public.
Then come out there watch it and just get to
meet some more of the players in we're gonna test
the PA system and the video board, all that great
stuff over over in Moundsville.
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Go through try right right. Your games are all going
to be held at the Moundsville Meum.
Speaker 4 (33:05):
Yeah, Monarch Stadium, and I'll tell you you know, I
mean talk about a great support. I mean Shelby Haynes,
you know, Roger Simmons and some of these other guys
over there that have been wonderful. I mean, I knew
the first meeting we had that this was the place
we had to play.
Speaker 2 (33:21):
So well, we haven't even covered everything. So will you
come back and visit us again? Of course, and especially
if you bring me another hat.
Speaker 3 (33:27):
No, you're like you get to like somebody that brings
a swag.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
I love my hat, love my hat. So but we'll
have you back and we'll get into some more things.
But I'm going to share everything on our Facebook page,
the schedule, everything, because I'm really excited about this. I
can't wait. And the games are all through the summer.
So but we'll have you back and we'll deep get
even deeper into some football talk.
Speaker 3 (33:50):
So you know, the High Valley Ironman starting up in June,
June seventh, and it's going to be at Monarch Stadium
down in Moundsville taking on since well that's the pregame
one that's not June seventh. Oh, I'm sorry, May twenty four.
The twenty thirty, twenty fourth is what he said about
the It's kind of like a screamage game. Oh oh,
(34:10):
the regular season starts on the seventh.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Okay, my apologies, my apologies. So it's exciting. I mean,
people are getting really excited about this. You know, I
love it. And if you didn't see yesterday the announcement
came out for Steelers in Browns. Their twenty twenty five
schedule is up. I'll post this on our Facebook page.
So it's uh, football.
Speaker 3 (34:35):
All year round.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
Just like you said, Otis, it's coming back. Justking its
head seventh.
Speaker 3 (34:41):
I mean, I don't have a problem with the Ironman.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
No no, no, no, you're talking about the Pros seven
fifty eight. Listening to the Blue Daddy Experience Otis and
Sam News Radio eleven seventy wwva Z.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Number one talk show in the Ohio Valley. This is
the bloom Daddy Experience. It's your host, bloom Daddy. His

Speaker 2 (35:16):

doing that here shortly. And then we also have let

(35:57):
We're going to have a pair of tickets to George
thorough Good which is going to be happening erner, it's
going to be happening June twenty eighth right here at
the Capitol Theater. So we'll have a pair of those
coming up there.
Speaker 3 (36:12):
WI the bon.
Speaker 2 (36:14):
Oh, I see what you did there, I see what
you did there. And along with that, don't forget bourbon.
Speaker 3 (36:19):
One shot, one beer.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
So it's one Scotch when Bourbon one Scotch, one shot.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Maybe.
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Oh I don't know. Okay, I think you're right though.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
And along with that, okay, every time I hear that
song and turn it off.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Oh well, okay, we see you're a big fan. Today
is our drawing for the Kirk's ice Cream Guess the gallon.
So if you haven't gotten yep, you still have time
to do. If you haven't got your guesses in yet,
just email them to Sam at iHeartMedia dot com.
Speaker 3 (36:49):
It's on our Facebook page. Yep.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
The picture of the two flavors are up on our
Facebook page.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Sure, I can't win.
Speaker 2 (36:58):
You can't win, but you can guess. I can't win either. No,
it's a win every week when I get to go
visit Kirk to get the pictures of the ice cream. Wow,
that was quite the eye roll. Talk about a kiss
up there. Which, by the way, Kirk, I'm coming today
(37:20):
to get pictures for next week, so be excited. No,
that picture is up there. It is below the picture
that we got last night from listener who was visiting racks.
Did you see that I sent the picture to you? Otis?
I mean, what did you say? You would take five.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
I take five of them. I would have taken ten.
Last time I was in Lancaster, Ohio. I think I
brought back ten or twelve of the BBC's the Beef
Bacon and Jedderson. Oh my gosh. Like when I placed
the order and I said, hey, I'd like twelve to go,
the lady at the window goes, are you kidding me?
(38:01):
And I said, no, you were that. She goes like,
it's going to take us a while to do these,
and I'm thinking you really shouldn't take you that long.
But I said, how about? I said, is it half
an hour long enough? So placed in order for what
we were eating, and then we went nate and then
came back and got our to go stuff.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
Yeah. That picture got sent to me last night about
six o'clock, right around dinner time, and I was like, oh, man,
man me and man. This was in I'm not I
think this was in southern West Virginia where this picture
was taken. But Eric on Greathouse Eric on Facebook said yes,
there's one in Lancaster, Ohio. Justin asked if they still
(38:41):
have a salad bar, So yeah, I'll tell you what
if somebody brought a rax back here to the Ohio Valley.
I think it would do fantastic as a franchise. I
think it would do phenomenal. But yes, you said BBC,
and I one hundred percent agree. I asked. I said
(39:02):
I would place an order for three. But I don't
know if we're going to get those orders we requested.
Probably not, probably into our Facebook page.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
I don't see the Kirk's ice cream.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
It's uh, it's right there. It's right below the the
jet skiing Golden Retriever that I posted.
Speaker 3 (39:20):
I don't see that either. Okay, just keep going hand.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Okay, it is there.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
It is put in there.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
Oh yeah, that helps. That helps. So yes, those are
up there. So get your guesses.
Speaker 3 (39:34):
How are you supposed to guess like there are there choices?
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Well, I've put the menu up of all their flavors again.
Speaker 3 (39:40):
I have to look at it, look at the.
Speaker 2 (39:42):
Maybe I need to put the menu up again.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
That'd probably be fair. You should probably post the menu
every week with the picture.
Speaker 2 (39:48):
Oh, I guess I could. I try to make it challenging.
Speaker 3 (39:52):
Well, but I mean if like, I mean, I could
look at that and say, well, that looks like strawberry,
but it probably isn't because strawberry was a flavored like
a week ago or something. And then the other one's
kind of that's got it looks like it's got some
like Graham cracker stuff in it, so that could be
(40:13):
some sort of a pie, like maybe the Key Line pie.
But it's not great that I don't see any green,
so i'd.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Have to I will say this, you are barking up
the correct tree.
Speaker 3 (40:26):
If I see the list that. If I see the list,
then I'll write down my guesses and we'll see how
I am. Okay, because I can't win.
Speaker 2 (40:33):
No, you can't win.
Speaker 3 (40:34):
Although Kirk does take care of me if I stop by,
he tries, he tries to give me a free cone,
but I always tell him I'm good. Oh yeah, yeah,
I always pay.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
You don't walk out of Kirk's without without.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
I told him, I said, when I'm broken, destitute and
I want an ice cream cone, and then I'll take
my free cone then, because that could be happen. That
could happen any day. Now.
Speaker 2 (40:57):
Oh. There was a couple of fridays ago in to
do this to get the picture, and he and Judy
and like four other people were like, oh, come on,
have lunch. She had some catering from a job she
had the night before. So I had this wonderful lunch
completely out of the blue, surprised all me. I was like,
all right, I'm going to show up more often. Man,
(41:17):
this is like, this is fantastic, a great surprise. Oh,
speaking of ice cream, we're going to be doing celebrity
scoopers for you know, United Away coming up. We're working
on that last night.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
If oh, you're gonna make it this year instead of
leaving me go by myself, Well that's right.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Where was I was out of town last time?
Speaker 3 (41:37):
You heard the Trump thing? You were at the Republicans.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Oh that's right, that's right. So we will be.
Speaker 3 (41:42):
Doing that here what one person against like seven?
Speaker 2 (41:49):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (41:49):
If it wasn't for me and one other person, the
total tips for us would have been twenty seven cents.
Because of myself and one other person, that came to
forty dollars and twenty seven cents.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Okay, I know I dropped them. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
This year, I will be there and I will put
in double the effort to make up where I slacked off.
It wasn't there.
Speaker 3 (42:09):
You got to cover both of our donations this year?
Speaker 2 (42:11):
Is that what I need to do? Max?
Speaker 3 (42:13):
You still owe me to breakfast that. I mean, this
has been going on for a year and a half
that I have not been paid. You're like, a welch,
A welch.
Speaker 2 (42:22):
Yeah, that's interesting.
Speaker 3 (42:27):
I have no idea what that was. That was our phone.
Speaker 2 (42:30):
That's interesting again. Hmm okay, Well again, get your guests
at sam at iHeartMedia dot com because today we'll be
doing the the free ice cream from Kirks, So get
those into us. A couple other things I wanted to
hit on so last night I am messing around on
(42:53):
social media again and I have a new hero, if
you will, Senator Kennedy of Louisiana, Listen, a couple of
weeks ago told you about the line he had about
AOC which was the reason She's the reason there are
(43:15):
directions on a shampoo bottle. Cracked me up, Absolutely cracked
me up. Well, he has a new one, ladies and gentlemen,
this one yesterday. I trust Katar like I trust a
rest stop bathroom. I don't know how I have missed
paying attention to this man, but he has my attention now.
(43:40):
His one liners are fantastic, Absolutely fantastic. So I went
back in pulled some old video of him, and I've
got two more for you. This one is great. This
was a ad hearing, a Senate hearing. I don't know.
This was a couple of years ago, so don't know
the kind of this statement. But life is hard, but
(44:03):
it's harder when you're stupid. That could apply to many,
many people. And I'm not just talking politicians. I'm just
talking people in general. There are certain people you come
across in life where you go. I've never met or
had such a dumber conversation, and this one takes the
(44:30):
cake for this morning. I did not call Senator Sanders
an ignorance slut. Really, I'm sorry. Just hilarious, just hilarious.
It's eight fifteen. I'll leave you with that had me
laugh in this morning. I hope it has you laughing
(44:50):
a fifteen. You're listening to The Bloom Diddy Experience Otis
and Sam News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. We are back
as eight twenty one The Bloom Daddy Experienced Samon Otis
(45:12):
news Radio eleven seventy WWVA. I think we have the
phones straightened out what the issue was there, But he's
working on it. So prior to the break I mentioned,
you know, I think I've found my new quote hero,
Senator Kennedy of Louisiana, going back to government a little
(45:32):
bit and our fearless leaders. I don't know if you've
seen the cliffs, but three representatives between Tuesday and to
Wednesday have been caught sleeping on the job. Literally sound asleep.
(45:53):
So Representative Wie Dingle of Michigan to sleep to the
point where she's like, you can't see me. Of course
we're on radio, but she is just like completely leaning
back in her chair.
Speaker 3 (46:13):
She's like you, she's like your dad or your mom's.
It's like in a recliner and just kind of lean back,
watching TV and dozing off.
Speaker 2 (46:18):
Yep. But it wasn't just her party. Representative from Utah,
Blake Moore. He was woken up by others surrounding him
and they had to say his name like three or
four times, and he did the old you know when
you kind of jerk and you kind of look around
and and you're completely startled. He did one of those,
(46:39):
and then he immediately voted for whatever they were voting for.
I think it was a budget. It was a budget
hearing is what this all entailed. And then along with
him was with those two was Jan Shaikowski of Illinois.
And when Debbie Dingle was asked about her little c STUF,
(47:02):
she said, I was just resting my eyes. I'm pretty
sure if you are like me, you had a grandparent
at one point in time say to you, no, no, no, nope.
I wasn't sleeping, nope, nope. I was just resting my eyes.
Speaker 3 (47:18):
I've said it.
Speaker 2 (47:21):
Right now. In the defense of these folks.
Speaker 3 (47:29):
They were.
Speaker 2 (47:31):
In the middle of, or towards the end of a
fifteen hour budget hearing, so I will I will cut
them some slack, fifteen straight hours of listening to budget
numbers and listen. I'm the type of person I can
(47:53):
probably give my whole pass. Yeah, I'm the type of
person Like when I was in college, I couldn't. I
was terrible classes where somebody just stood in front of
the classroom and talked and talked and talked Like I'm
not that type of learner that does not grab my attention.
How I ended up in this field, who knows, because
it's all about talk and talk and talk. But I digress.
(48:14):
I have to I have to be hands on. That's
how I learn, so I can. I can sympathize with
those folks for standing there or sitting there hour upon
hour upon our I don't know who testified, I don't
know all the details that went into it, but for
fifteen hours, it's funny to just they're caught on camera.
(48:35):
You know, the gentleman from Utah, Blake Moore is roused
from his siesta. It's funny, it's cute. Listen. So there
are some people that are angry with this, saying, you know,
this is why our government is terrible. Nobody. You know,
they're getting paid and they don't do their job. Listen, folks,
(48:57):
Sometimes it it's not a political you know, this party
does this, this party does that. Sometimes, just take it
for what it is. It was fifteen hours in a
congressional budget hearing, listening to people talk and they dozed off.
(49:24):
It happens. It happens to everybody. It doesn't matter if
you're a Democrat or Republican. It happens. Let's all back down,
let's all stop losing our minds. Just take it for
what it is. And it was. It was funny. It
was funny. Who hasn't had a situation where they were
(49:45):
resting their eyes. There was a time when I, you know,
working here. This was many, many, many years ago, where
I had my lunch. I was in my car, and
it was a about this time of year. It was springtime,
the sun was out. I went to Wheeling Park to
(50:07):
eat my lunch. I ate my lunch, I sat there.
I had another like fifteen minutes, and I thought, oh,
I'm just gonna lean my head back and take a nap.
Next thing I know, it is six o'clock, six ohclock.
Now I can tell this story because the people that
(50:29):
were the bosses here at that time are no longer here,
so I can't really get in trouble. But here I
am in this parking lot. I was so sound asleep.
I woke up. My neck was stiff because I was
tilted to the side. I'll admit it. I had a
little bit of what would you call it spittle that
on the side of That's how sound asleep. I was
(50:50):
so listen. You can fall asleep in weird places and
you think you're gonna take a nap, and it turns
out into an attire four or five hour process. My
question was how many people walk past me in that
parking lot walking their dogs or going to the pool
or going to the playground. Seize this. This woman doesn't
think maybe we should check on her. No, they left
me there, but I was. I was sound asleep, sound asleep.
(51:15):
So to these three three representatives, listen, I'm gonna cut
you some slack. It's funny.
Speaker 3 (51:21):
We got a text that said that by Dingle it's
a great name, great porn name. There's just saying that.
I didn't say that. It was a text that was
sent to us.
Speaker 2 (51:36):
There's an snl skit in there somewhere. Oh absolutely, there's
an SNL skit.
Speaker 3 (51:41):
We may have an issue with our friends.
Speaker 2 (51:43):
Oh no, not again.
Speaker 3 (51:45):
That's what happens when coffee gets spilled.
Speaker 2 (51:49):
I don't drink coffee.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
Well it happens. Oh so then well we'll see, we'll see. Okay,
we're gonna try to alleviate the problem here. Okay, we're
not gonna be able to do anything right now.
Speaker 2 (52:00):
We had our we have the chances to win. We
may have to postpone. Yeah, okay, okay, we will. We
will let you know about that.
Speaker 3 (52:07):
Me me call maintenance. Whoops, see yeah, whoops.
Speaker 2 (52:13):
See all right, we'll let you know about that. It
is eight twenty eight. We're gonna jump to a quick break.
Thank you for tuning in. It's the Blue Daddy Experience
Sam and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWV A height
(52:34):
thirty six. Welcome back to the Blue Daddy Experience Otis
and Sam News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Okay, so phone update,
we are nil.
Speaker 3 (52:45):
Everything's X out. Okay, yeah, I can't get that. Like earlier,
this button would work, now it doesn't, okay, So I
think we're just there's a connection that's either been fried
or it's wet and it needs to dry out.
Speaker 2 (52:57):
I can hear you trying to get it to all right.
Speaker 3 (53:01):
So I've unplugged it. I've done everything.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
Okay. So Nick's on the phone lines for our chance
to win. So what we're gonna do is we're going
to go back to We're gonna get We're gonna go
to our text line, which is three zero three eight two.
Speaker 3 (53:16):
Now again, start off with bloomdaddy.
Speaker 2 (53:17):
Yep, you have to start it off with bloom daddy.
So you make the message too, three zero three eight two.
That's the number. First word yes, and then then in
the body of the text you started off with bloom daddy,
and then send us your name and phone number, and
that will be your registration for your chance to win.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
And we will take registrations from now until the start
of the next break.
Speaker 2 (53:39):
Right, so for the next commercial break, next what ten minutes?
Speaker 3 (53:41):
Will say? Ye?
Speaker 2 (53:43):
Ten thirteen minutes, So again three zero three eight two.
Start the body of the message off with bloom daddy
and send us your name and phone number, and that
will be your registration for your chance to win a
four pack to see the wheeling minors on May twenty fourth.
And then should we just combine.
Speaker 3 (54:00):
Know what we'll do is we'll we'll we'll pick them.
Speaker 2 (54:02):
And then and then we'll do the next one. Okay, perfect, So.
Speaker 3 (54:05):
For everybody in the randomizer, so everybody has the chance. Okay,
you see what I'm saying. So if we get thirty entries,
we'll pick one out of the thirty, so everybody's gonna
have an equal chance.
Speaker 2 (54:15):
Okay, perfect. So that is how we're We're.
Speaker 3 (54:19):
Going to hand the text number one more time, three
oh three three zero three eight two, and then the
first word in the text is bloom daddy, and then
your name and phone numbers and that's one word. Yeah,
bloom Daddy's one word.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Yeah, it's one made up word. So that's how we're
going to do that.
Speaker 3 (54:35):
You know what today is and and well and Friday,
Junior Friday Eve pre game.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
No, and I think this is made up. It is,
well okay, yes, but I think this is a made
up one.
Speaker 3 (54:48):
They're all made up. I know.
Speaker 2 (54:50):
Bring flowers to someone day.
Speaker 3 (54:54):
Sorry about your luck.
Speaker 2 (54:55):
Say where's where's mine?
Speaker 3 (54:57):
I didn't see it until I got here. And in
the morning that I've had so far, Yeah, you're not
getting nobody's getting anything.
Speaker 2 (55:04):
Yeah, you have had a bit of a morning.
Speaker 3 (55:06):
Forgot my watch, so I don't know what my steps
are today. I mean just I'm like discombobulated.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
You're scatter brained all over the place. Along with that,
it's not National Chocolate Chip Day. I can do that. Yeah,
I'm all about the chocolate chips.
Speaker 3 (55:21):
Chocolate chip in just as it regular chocolate chip or
chocolate chip cookies.
Speaker 2 (55:25):
Nope, it says chocolate chip Day. So just the chips itself, which,
by the way, don't eat an entire bag of chocolate chips.
My grandmother did that once. She loved chocolate, love chocolate.
She had no other alternative. All she had were chocolate
chips in the house. She ate like the entire bag
(55:45):
and made herself terribly sick.
Speaker 3 (55:49):
I can understand why, Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
I still she didn't taste those. She didn't touch those
or chocolate chip cookies for a very long time after
that little bit of advice there for you. It's a
little early to talk about New Year's Eve, but let's
do it because NBC and Peacock, which of course is
their streaming port division of of NBC, has announced that
(56:15):
Snoop Dogg will be this year's New Year's Eve host.
Snoop Dogg is making like a cultural comeback. I mean,
he he ruled the Olympics this past past year, so
he is now back for that and let's see it
will uh. Snoop Dogg's energy, influence and ability to bring
(56:39):
people together promises an unforgettable night, says the executive vice
president of NBC Universal. We're thrilled. We're thrilled to partner
with Snoop and bring this epic event to audiences across
the country. From myami otis, do you know Snoop Dogg's
world name just just a.
Speaker 3 (57:01):
I do, But shoot you asked me too quick because
his son played football. Yep, oh, I can see no,
but no, he played it a high school and then
got he went to u c. L A instead of
USC because snoops a big USC fan, and then he
didn't last he quit. What the heck is his name?
(57:24):
I can't think of it, Okay, so as you say it,
it's Calvin Calvin. What's his last name?
Speaker 2 (57:29):
Calvin cordor Codersar. That's his middle name, broadest.
Speaker 3 (57:34):
Broadest, Yes, I knew, I knew it was. I knew
he began with a B, but I couldn't think.
Speaker 4 (57:38):
Of what it was.
Speaker 2 (57:39):
And he's married to his high school sweetheart, I believe.
I mean, that's you don't see that very often once
you make it to that level of of stardom. Speaking
of entertainment, here's a little bit for you. So it
was released yesterday. The first image of King of the
Hill is returning. Of course, if you remember the Fox
(58:03):
Adult animated cartoon that was on what was about twenty
years ago now maybe fifteen years ago, it's been a while.
It is returning.
Speaker 3 (58:12):
Now.
Speaker 2 (58:12):
This isn't like a video, This is a standalone it's
a still graphic kind of like a movie theater poster.
But it shows all the guys standing in front of
the fence. Here's the thing that's funny. They have all
kinds of new technology on them. So the one guy, god,
I can't remember his name, he wears the orange hat.
The skinny guy he has on a pair of UV goggles.
(58:36):
The other one is wearing uh has an it looks
like an iPad. There's a drone flying overhead delivering them
a case of beer. So it will be returning. And
it's returning. It's actually gonna be on Hulu this time.
So King of the Hill is making a comeback. When
did it go off? It had fifteen years. It has
(58:57):
not been on the air since for fifteen yell was fifty.
Speaker 3 (59:00):
The theme song to King of the Hill is by
the band one of the bands I really like, which
is the It was the precursor to Roger Klin and
the Peacemakers. It's the refreshments. Oh okay, So if you
get a chance pull that, they'll they'll do that every
once in a while in concert they'll just play the
theme song the King of the Hill. I mean it's
only like twenty five seconds or thirty seconds long. But
everybody knows that and there's no words or anything, but
(59:21):
they just love to hear it. It's kind of funny.
Speaker 2 (59:24):
Yeah. Oh, Bill hank Dale and Boomhauer of course are
the notable names characters from that show. And of course
this is done by Mike Judge.
Speaker 3 (59:33):
I just want to mention something here, real quick, change
switching gears, real quick. We brought the story to about
a week or so ago. About the job. About the athlete,
Oh gosh, yes, Paisley Babachek, who is a shot put
discus here locally and potentially could be facing off against
a male competitor in the regionals. Tonight is the Triple
(59:56):
West Virginia s SAC Trip Away Regional Championships show. Paisley
will be competing this evening. So for all the girls
that are competing, if you are competing against the boy,
we want to wish you the best of every girl,
not just Paisley. So but pays bring it home to
the valley, yes, please do, please do?
Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
Yeah, man, are isn't there some of the students, the
female they could they could they could just say say
they're not going to throw against them.
Speaker 3 (01:00:25):
But I think Paisley is going to compete. Good for her,
I mean, I mean, I think she's taking a stand saying, look,
because here's if you don't compete. Remember Governor Morrissey said,
keep track of all all the statistics from every from
every athlete, because what's going to happen is when the
Supreme Court rules that this guy is ineligible, then they'll
(01:00:46):
be able to award I got you the people that
were raid awards. If he would finish first, second, or third. Okay,
so they're in the top eight or whatever. I don't
know what they're I don't know what they place.
Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
In track and field, and so what you're saying in
the moving forward in the future, if the scenario happens,
that the any awards would be stripped as long as
you as long as you competed, and say you came
in second or third, you would advance the spot.
Speaker 3 (01:01:12):
Okay, depending on where this boy finishes. If he finishes first,
then he would be stripped. Then number two would move
to one, and everybody would move up one. You know,
if he gets beat by say Paisley, and she finishes first,
then the third finishes second, then it would be they
would move up one from there.
Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
And listen, this controversy has gotten it's so stupid. I
mean not to sound simple, but it's just stupid. This
entire conversation is stupid that it's gotten to this level.
There's no defense, there's no argument. It should not be happening,
plain and simple. It should not be happening. And we
(01:01:50):
should not be asking are very very young athletes high
school age, junior high age to have to make adult
level decisions like this. We shouldn't whether it's Paisley or
somebody playing Little league softball, these decisions should not be
(01:02:11):
facing our young women. And it's just it's gotten way
out of control, way completely out of control. Somehow we
went from King of the Hill to that. But no
good luck to Paisley tonight again for your chance to
win three zero three eight two text three zero three
eight two first first say that again. First word bloem
(01:02:38):
Daddy name and phone number. And this is for your
chance to win a four pack to the Wheeling Miners.
When you go to a quick break, it's a forty six.
Thanks to thank you for tuning in the Bluem Daddy Experience.
Salmon Otis News Radio eleven seventy w w VA. We
(01:03:06):
are back at say fifty one the Bloomduddy Experience samon
Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. So we want to
do the first one.
Speaker 3 (01:03:14):
Now, sure, okay, turn on Mike one.
Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
All right, So this is for the four pack to
the Wheeling Miners. So we got our text which is
for May twenty fourth, Yes, May twenty fourth. We've got
all of our texts in so we have twenty one entries.
Ok So you do your fancy randomizer thing on your phone.
Speaker 3 (01:03:35):
Okay, number seventeen.
Speaker 2 (01:03:36):
Okay, we have Candya, Candya. I don't want to say
her whole name on on there on.
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
Air, so we mabe it from Oh you didn't say no, Ka,
just name.
Speaker 2 (01:03:46):
And phone numbers all be asked for. So we will beginning,
I will be getting a hold of you to get
all of your information to get you the tickets.
Speaker 3 (01:03:54):
Now, so we're going to do the same thing right now.
You'll have now until the end of the show, which
is five minutes. Yeah, no, we'll give you till nine o'clock.
Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Oh, because we can do it. We don't have to
do it.
Speaker 3 (01:04:04):
Yeah, and we can make the enough Actually, what we
can do is we can just make it an all
day thing and then do it tomorrow. We can announce
the winner first thing tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
Okay, perfect, let's do that. That gives everybody more time.
If they're in their car, drive on.
Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
The Facebook page if you want to. If you want
chances to win, to see George third good.
Speaker 2 (01:04:19):
Yeah, so text three zero three a two. Start off
the message with bloom daddy, name in phone number, name
and phone number, not like this person did. This is
my registration. Have a great day. Good for you.
Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
We need your name and phone number so they didn't win.
Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Yeah, me too, name and phone number. So yeah, that's good.
You can register all day for George thorowgood and then
we will do the winner for that tomorrow and then
that way. If you're driving, because we don't want you
to text and drive, don't do any of that. None
of that again.
Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
One entry per person.
Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
Yes, three zero three eight to two. Start off the
message with bloom daddy and then our winner this morning,
candya for the four packed to the miners. I will
be getting a hold of you to get you your tickets.
Did you see another raccoon has made the news great?
Speaker 3 (01:05:15):
This time it's not rocket.
Speaker 2 (01:05:16):
It's not rocket. Chewy not chewy and there's no crack pipe,
meth pipe, any pipe involved. This time. The raccoon invaded
baseball field last night when the Pirates was taking on
the Mets. They it was running across the field. They
(01:05:38):
caught it in this net. But I don't know what's
up with the raccoons here recently.
Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
That seems not unusual to baseball field. Oh no, no,
I mean you have you have all kinds of critters, groundhog, squirrels, rabbits, cats,
oh see cats a lot. Yeah, you know, raccoons because
you figure there's a lot of garbage there. So depending
on where you like New York, if you know there
(01:06:02):
it's the Mets so well, but I mean, I don't
know how. There's probably no wooded area, so like the
raccoons have probably been forced out of their environment. Yeah,
and they're just somewhere and then so they go scavenging
for fe surviving. Well, guess what, where's a great place
to go. There's probably two hundred dumpsters are better at
at whatever city field, and so you know there's a
(01:06:23):
there's a great possibility that one could get in there.
Speaker 2 (01:06:26):
Well, the raccoons are keeping us entertained. Here's one thing though,
Pirates fans. They won for nothing over the Mets last
night at this game, So maybe this is the lucky
raccoon for the Pirates. Who knows.
Speaker 3 (01:06:42):
Well, Speaking of baseball, if you think the Pirates are bad,
the Colorado Rockies have set a record, just not one
to this must not be a good record. Yeah. They
officially have become the first team in Major League Baseball's
modern era to lose thirty six of their first forty
three games. So they are seven and thirty six. They're
(01:07:05):
looking to turn things around tomorrow when they take it
on the Diamondbacks in Phoenix. Wow, you want a little trivia?
You want a little baseball trivia?
Speaker 2 (01:07:13):
Oh yeah, give it to me.
Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
No, I mean, this is kind of just it's a
little interesting thing, okay, Okay. So Arizona and Colorado came
into the league nineties. In the nineties, Colorado is in Denver,
so malehai. They are officially the highest elevated city in
Major League Baseball. The second highest elevated city in Major
(01:07:35):
League Baseball is Phoenix, which is where the Arizona Diamondbacks play. Huh.
Before those two teams joined the league, what was the
highest elevated city in Major League Baseball. I'll give you
a hint. It's a National League team.
Speaker 2 (01:07:52):
Means nothing to me.
Speaker 3 (01:07:54):
Seattle, that's American League. But that's okay. Yeah, the Atlanta
Atlanta Braves. Oh, like I would have never guessed that.
I mean, you you know, you take out you take
out your coastal Yeah, you know. I would have thought
it would have been like Pittsburgh, Cleveland, you know, somewhere Cleveland, Milwaukee,
(01:08:16):
you get that, you get the Great Lakes kind of there,
you know, Uh, Chicago, same thing. So they're they're kind
of down a little bit. I would have never thought
it would have been Atlanta.
Speaker 2 (01:08:25):
And those two teams they were expansion teams, correct, they
were not bought.
Speaker 3 (01:08:30):
And moved Arizona. Arizona and Florida came in at the
same time. They came in the same year, and then
Colorado and Tampa Bay came in either right before or
right after they. I don't think they all four came
in at the same time. I could google that. But
we're kind of running out of time.
Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
We are running out of time.
Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
So we are we are again. If you want chances
to win, uh the pair of tickets to George Thurgood.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Yes, it's blowing.
Speaker 3 (01:08:57):
That's fine, that's great. We want we want we want
is any entries as we can. We'll randomize and we'll
draw first thing in the morning, and so you have
all day. Three zero three two eight right, three zero
three eight two.
Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
There you go.
Speaker 3 (01:09:09):
Sorry, little dyslexic, you're having a day man, But we will.
You know, first word in the text is bloom Daddy.
Your name and phone number, and those that'll be your
chance to win George s theirragud tickets. And you know
what we'll do, since we're doing it this way, We'll
throw in a McCormick's audio gift certificate, all right with
the George They good tickets.
Speaker 2 (01:09:27):
All right, let's do that and listen, we need to
use our text line more often because this is an opportunity.
If you don't want to call, we're gonna start putting
this out there more so. If you want to send
us messages you think we're stupid, we said something stupid,
or you have a joke or whatever. You want to
comment on anything, this is another way you can reach us.
Three zero three eight two started off with bloom Daddy
(01:09:47):
because one message caught us out on some stuff today
and it was a great joke, so should I say it?
It is now okay, But to whoever sent this, kudos
on it.
Speaker 4 (01:10:01):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (01:10:02):
It made us laugh. We are out. We'll see you
on Friday.
