Speaker 1 (00:01):
The number one talk show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal in form, entertain, and tick people off. The bloom
Daddy Experience on News Radio eleven seventy.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
WWVA starts now.

Speaker 3 (00:21):
The bloom Daddy Experience. It's seven oh six on news
Radio eleven seventy. Welcome to the show, and good Friday
morning to you. We made another weekend. Thankfully for that.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
Saw the headline of the Times Leader Local resident files
up and david over football game incident in October.

Speaker 5 (00:36):
And this is Brent Gay.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
He's a resident of Flushing, and he is wanting charges
filed against Von Butler, longtime assistant coach football basketball at
Union Local. I know both these individuals very well. I
have the utmost respect for Brent Gay. I've got the
utmost respect for Von Butler. I know everybody involved. After
this altercation happened, I had people reach out to me.

(00:59):
I talk to people who saw it happen. Okay, what
I'm gonna say about this is pretty simple. This should
never escalate to this point. And what I mean by
that is Brent Gay and Von Butler know each other.
Very well, they know each other very well. They're both

(01:21):
huge Union Local supporters. I don't know anybody who loves
Union Local more than Von Butler, and I probably don't
know anybody that loves Union Local more than Brent Gay.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
And the fact that it's reached this.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Point with two people who I consider friends is disturbing
to me. And I'm not gonna sit here in point
a finger at either one. I'm just gonna say this,
Brent Gay was wrong to even approach Von Butler at
a football game. No fan should approach a coach anywhere
as a matter of fact, whether it's Union Local, Barnesville,

(01:55):
Wheeling Park, wherever it may be. Coaches should be off
limits during sport events, and if you approach one in
a controversial manner, you should be banned from sporting events,
whether it's the rest of the year or whatever. And
I would tell Brent to his face that it was
wrong of him to go and do this.

Speaker 5 (02:14):
That's just not the place.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
At the same time, with Vaughan, I mean, you're trying
to avoid contact, You're trying to avoid any kind of altercation.
Did he do everything in his power to just walk away?
As hard as it is.

Speaker 5 (02:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Maybe he didn't and maybe he's at fault for that.
But what I would say to both of these individuals,
as a Union local graduate, as somebody who's friends with
both these guys, is come on, come on, and specifically
to Brent, come on. I mean, the evidence doesn't back
you up. Why are you doing this? I mean I

(02:55):
get it you're mad about the incident, maybe you feel
you were wrong, But is it worth it? Is it
worth having your name in the spotlight? Is it worth
causing grief to a school you love, to a guy
you were friends with. I hate seeing things escalate to
this level. He got a law firm out of Cleveland

(03:16):
saying that von Butler violently attacked him.

Speaker 5 (03:18):
That's simply not backed up by the evidence.

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Belmont County Assistant Prosecutor Joe Vavra, his office reviewed everything
and he said there's nothing here that there's no punches
were thrown, physical contact consisted essentially of shoving. You also
have Gay's law firm out of Cleveland saying that the
two police officers involved here, one from the Barnswoo Police

(03:43):
Department and a deputy from the Belmont County Sheriff's Office,
that they obstructed justice, that they basically shielded Butler, they
took up for Butler. I've talked to people who were
there who saw what happened, and all of them say
that Brent Gay should have done what he did. That
it escalated things, it instigated things, and everybody thought.

Speaker 5 (04:05):
It was going to be done.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Barnesel's police chief, Rocky Siriani, said they interviewed people, They
got statements from the involved parties and witnesses, forward them
to the prosecutors, and based on all the info, the
prosecutor's office determined no criminal charges. And he said one
of the involved parties didn't like the outcome of no charges,
so he's continuing to press it on again. You have

(04:29):
a situation here involving two people who love that school
and two people who used to be friends.

Speaker 5 (04:37):
Why, I mean why, And I would.

Speaker 3 (04:41):
Say to Brent just let it go, just walk away,
and at some point, you know, maybe these two guys
get together, share a beer and move on with your lives.
It's not worth all of this. Now, with that said,
let's get back to the incident. And I use that

(05:01):
one as an example because it's making the news. But
I hear all the time now of coaches at many
schools here in the valley being shouted at, yelled at,
confronted by parents or whoever. It's got to stop, and
the only way you're gonna stop it is administrators need
to get balls and start banning people.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
That's it. There's no second chance, there's no third chance.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
If you confront a coach at a basketball game, or
a football game, or a baseball wherever it may be,
your banned. You're not allowed on school property for the
remainder of the year. You're not allowed to come to
any school functions period. I mean, this has got to stop,
and the only way you're gonna stop it is if
you are just solid with your stance, and that stance

(05:50):
should be it will never be acceptable to confront a
coach anywhere. If you want to talk to a coach
about something, schedule a meeting with the athletic director, with
the superintendent, and then you have a sit down with
a number of different parties and you talk it out.
There's proper protocol to follow. If parents don't adhere to that,

(06:16):
if they're not forced to adhere to that, you're gonna
have situations or fans if they're not forced to adhere
to that, you're gonna have situations like the one I'm
talking about that transpired at the Bournville football game. Superintendents,
school board members have got to quit being afraid. They
got to quit playing favorites with people they know. They

(06:36):
can't worry about how much money somebody gives to a
school or how much support somebody gives to a school.

Speaker 5 (06:42):
It's got to be.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
If you confront a coach, you're gone for the year,
and if you do it again, you're never coming back
here or else. I'm gonna continue talking about things like
I am today here on this Friday morning, gonna take
a break. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience eleven
seventy wwva.

Speaker 6 (07:16):
They are they working?

Speaker 4 (07:19):
I had them on back yet, and then I didn't
have the volume of it. They'd sound weird.

Speaker 7 (07:24):
They sound weird.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
They're sound like he's sound a little different.

Speaker 6 (07:27):
Happy Friday, everybody he's talking about. Of course, that's otis.
He's talking about his headphones that you bought.

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Me for Christmas, that I finally broke out.

Speaker 6 (07:35):
Here they finally made it to the studio.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
I've used them before, yeah, but I just never really
used them here, here, or for for that many things
because they're too nice. Okay, I mean if I get
something nice, like I don't buy like expensive sunglasses or
stuff like that, because nine times out of ten I'll

(07:58):
lose them or breath.

Speaker 6 (07:59):
Do you like save stuff and never use it because
you put so much money into it? Sort of that
type of thing because it's so nice.

Speaker 4 (08:07):
I wouldn't say that, but sometimes I'm just afraid to
use it, you know what I mean? Like I don't
I don't want to, like, I definitely don't want to
break these because these are too nice.

Speaker 7 (08:15):
Oh good, I'm glad you.

Speaker 6 (08:17):
I'm glad you.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
You like that.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
But you bought you bought myself and you bought Elgin
friends for Christmas this past year.

Speaker 6 (08:24):
Yes, I'm a wonderful coworker.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
You do give nice gifts.

Speaker 6 (08:28):
I was told that before. I like to do creative
gifts and I just need you to wrap them.

Speaker 4 (08:34):
That's it. I can wrap. I'm a I'm a gangster wrapper.

Speaker 7 (08:39):
Combined we make the perfect.

Speaker 4 (08:41):
I think you bought me that shirt too, gangster rapper.
I don't know I can find that.

Speaker 7 (08:45):
Where did I find that?

Speaker 6 (08:47):
Oh? No, you don't know what you did with it? Oh,
I thought you said, where did you find them?

Speaker 4 (08:50):
No, it's probably it's somewhere at my house. I just
don't nowhere.

Speaker 7 (08:54):
God Jesus, we're talking about Christmas.

Speaker 6 (08:55):
Let's not go there yet. Oh no, no, no, no,
no no. So anyways, you're listening to bloom Dead Experience.
Happy Friday, everybody who is like, hiss, finally we're here.
I'm hitting the road this weekend, taking a quick road
trip out of town, going to a place. I thought
i'd mentioned this to everybody who possibly is looking for

(09:16):
a quick long weekend getaway or somewhere different to go.
I am going to Selena, Ohio.

Speaker 7 (09:24):
Never heard of it before.

Speaker 6 (09:25):
It's west of Columbus and there is a new getaway village,
little vacation area. It's called Boardwalk Village and it's near
a giant, very large lake. Greater Grand Lake is the
name of the lake in Selena, Ohio. That's where I'm going.

(09:47):
It's a lot of airbnbs, but there's tons.

Speaker 7 (09:50):
To do, food, pickleball.

Speaker 6 (09:52):
It's a little early in the season of course for lake,
but gonna check it out.

Speaker 7 (09:55):
Two heated swimming.

Speaker 6 (09:56):
Pools restaurants, so we'll see. I'll tell you what it's like,
but it's very curious to see what it's going to
be like. So hitting the road this weekend very quick.
I may or may not be back on Monday. Now
I'll be back on Monday. No, I'm too responsible.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
At least one of us is.

Speaker 3 (10:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (10:18):
Yeah, although if you may get a call, that's fine
because I'm having tire issues but working on that.

Speaker 4 (10:24):
Yeah, yeah, the tire issues are you're tired?

Speaker 6 (10:27):
Well yeah, yeah, you're right there, You're right there. Let's
jump into some local news and update on the Blaine
Hill Bridge project. If you live in Ohio Belmont County,
the Blaine Hill Bridge, of course, is on Old forty.
It's kind of the backway from Bridgeport to Saint Clairsville.
That's how I use it. Well, there is an update

(10:49):
because it was going to be a long drawn out process. Well,
work did begin last week in regards to the plans
for the finalizing of the demolition step within this project,
o DOT now anticipates the bridge will be reopened to
traffic in the summer of twenty twenty six, and then

(11:10):
the overall completion is to be in October of twenty six.
So there is swift movement now happening on this project
where when it was initially announced it was going to
take forever. So a lot of the folks that got
involved that did the not protest signature campaign to move

(11:34):
this quicker, it has happened. So some good news there
because honestly, it really is an inconvenience, it really is.
That's a pretty nifty little cut through for a lot
of folks. And also you take into account the EMT Services,
Fire Department, all those types of things too. To have
that pretty busy thoroughfare disconnected is it has been a

(11:59):
huge inconvenience. So some good news on that front out
of Bridgeport. Got to give a shout out to.

Speaker 7 (12:10):
Brett Cuprits.

Speaker 6 (12:12):
Now he is going to be representing Belmont County in
the National Spelling Bee in Washington, d C. Now that
is going to be happening May twenty seventh through the
twenty ninth. His number on stage will be one seventy
four out of two hundred and forty three students that qualified.

(12:34):
And he says, you know, I hope I won't let him,
won't let them down, which of course is everybody that's
supporting him and Brett, listen, if.

Speaker 4 (12:44):
You've made it down.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
You are not letting anybody down. Look at where you're
making it. This will also coincide his birthday just happened
on the fourteenth, So happy birthday to Brett. But listen, congrats,
have a great time tour. Check out everything in DC.
It's a beautiful city, tons of things. But he continues

(13:05):
to train and prep, of course, for the script's National
Spelling Bee.

Speaker 7 (13:11):
I couldn't do it.

Speaker 6 (13:12):
I'm a pretty decent speller. I couldn't do the Spelling Bee.
Have you ever watched any of the documentary on some
of these kids otis and what they can do? It's
it's it's pretty amazing. It's pretty amazing.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
I did not. I have not seen those.

Speaker 6 (13:28):
Well you have a more exciting life than I do.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
Because just well, Spelling Bee documentaries do not really excite
me exactly. I mean it's not really like like must
see TV. First off, I can't spell, to begin with,
I hate spelling.

Speaker 7 (13:44):
My husband can't spell.

Speaker 3 (13:46):
Well.

Speaker 4 (13:46):
I can spell, but sometimes I have to really think
about it, and then they're like, I'll misspell the easiest
words just because in my mind, Like I think I've
told this story probably one hundred times, but I know tao,
like how you off with t ow e L. For
whatever reason, I always want to put a second L
in there. I don't know why. It just maybe I

(14:08):
did it as a kid and it's just kind of
one of those things.

Speaker 6 (14:11):
No, my my husband can't spell, and I'm not trying
to knock on him. He always he constantly asks me,
you know, how do you spell this? He spells so
badly that Siri or Google cannot interpret what he's attempting
to spell because his attempts are so off that it's

(14:33):
not even the AI can't even figure it out. You
know that's bad. You know that's bad. And I'm the
person that every time I have to spell receive in
my head, I'm going I before E except after C
like all that stuff sticks in your head, sticks in
your head. And then Also a scary story this morning
out of Marshall County.

Speaker 7 (14:54):
The Sheriff's Department has.

Speaker 6 (14:55):
Confirmed that one of the deputies was involved in a
two VA cool crash in Cameron. It happened along Fish
Creek Road. According to the sheriff, the deputy collided with
another vehicle and the deputy was en route responding to
a domestic violence incident. The deputy was life flighted to

(15:17):
WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown in serious condition. Now,
the second driver involved did not sustain serious injuries and
was released at the scene. Now, as more information comes
to light, we will of course bring that to you.
But that's a scary, scary situation and hopefully hopefully that

(15:39):
deputy comes out well in this circumstance.

Speaker 4 (15:43):
And I just want to give us give everybody an
update the West Virginia trip away. Yes track the regionals
were held yesterday and we talked about the young girl,
Paisley Babychak, who would have to compete against the male
athlete who is a freshman at a school in north

(16:04):
central West Virginia. I don't want to give the school,
but our girl, Paisley finished first in the discus with
a one hundred and twenty four inches it one twenty
four and the male athlete finished with a one eight

(16:26):
eight Oh.

Speaker 7 (16:26):
She beat him by yes, good chunk, okay.

Speaker 4 (16:29):
He actually finished fourth. That was in the discus, and
then the shot put Paisley got um. She got first
in the region that she again she's a freshman, and
the male athlete got third. So I think they all,
they all qualify for the state. But good for her,
Good for her, at least she didn't get knocked out.
And you know, best of luck to Paisley in the

(16:50):
States because she is competing against a young man, which
is not fair.

Speaker 6 (16:55):
Absolutely, even if she won, even if she beat him,
it's still.

Speaker 4 (16:58):
Not because somebody else got bumped out right of a.

Speaker 7 (17:01):
Spot, right, yes, exactly.

Speaker 6 (17:03):
Good point. Okay, don't forget this morning text three zero
three eight two. We are doing your time.

Speaker 4 (17:09):
No, we can. We're gonna draw the winter from oh
y'all yesterday. You're right, our phone lines are now working,
so we'll do We will do phone calls later on.

Speaker 6 (17:17):
Okay, my fault, my confusion. Uh, it's seven twenty eight.
Our question of the day, based on our conversation about
racks yesterday. What food plays would you like to see
return to the High Valley Call us one eight hundred
and sixty two four eleven seventy seven twenty eight. You're
listening to the bloom Daddy Experience. Salmon otis seven thirty six.

(17:38):
Welcome back on this Friday morning. You're listening to the
bloom Daddy Experience. Salmon otis here on news radio eleven
seventy w W B A B A so our phones
are working again, no thanks to me. And of course

(18:02):
all throughout the day yesterday we let you know that
you could go to our text and register to win
a pair of tickets to see George thorough Good. Well,
we got tons of entries and we have our winner.

(18:23):
Do we want to make the announcement? Okay, so our
lucky winner thanks to our randomizer, do do do? Is
William and William I will be getting a hold of
you after this show so we can get all of
your information so we can get your winnings to you.

(18:46):
But I want to keep the text line going this morning,
not for chances to win, but with our question of
the day for this Friday, where we like to have
some fun, which is what food place from back in
the day here in the Ohio Valley would you like
to see return? And this all goes back to yesterday

(19:09):
with a picture we received from somebody in regards to
Rax and Otis had his order of the five BBC's
and I said three in the whole thing. So it
kind of sparked me thinking, and that was our question
of the day for today. What would you want to
see come back. What's the first thing that pops into
your head?

Speaker 5 (19:26):
Racks?

Speaker 4 (19:28):
I mean it does, Yeah, it's it's it's always the same. Yeah.
It was the best. It was the best. It was
the best fast food restaurant going for a long time. Yeah,
yeah there. I think the last one that closed in
this area was the one in Saint Clair's roll Over
by the Mall.

Speaker 6 (19:46):
Yeah, I do.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
There was one in Parkersbury. It was right across from
Parkersburg South High School. And sometimes when I would go
to meetings in Charleston, I would stop on my way home.

Speaker 7 (19:56):
Was it just as good as you remember?

Speaker 4 (19:58):
Oh yeah, yeah yeah. And and I would have people
like literally throw money at me to bring it home,
to bring There was one time I think I had
a two hundred dollars order at Racks in Parkersburg before
they closed. I had guys they would say, bring me
back ten big Racks, ten BBC's ten, you know, they

(20:21):
just I mean, I would bring them back. My kids.
My kids were like, what's this? Then they ate the
beefacon and chatter the BBC and.

Speaker 6 (20:31):
The clouds parted and they realized Yeah.

Speaker 4 (20:33):
They were like, oh my god, this is good.

Speaker 6 (20:34):
So I just I just googled can you still get
a RAX franchise, and you can. It's possible to acquire
a RAX franchise by purchasing existing locations or acquiring the
trademark outright. So if anybody out there has a couple
few bucks, listen, we're handing.

Speaker 7 (20:49):
It right to you.

Speaker 4 (20:51):
Here. Here's a You wouldn't lose money in this area. No,
it would be a gold mine.

Speaker 6 (20:56):
So simple doesn't say the cost to be a franchise,
but yeah, you would not.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
You put a Racks at the Highlands, you'd be a
millionaire in a year.

Speaker 7 (21:08):
Yep, yep.

Speaker 6 (21:09):
My husband's always said a golden corral. Oh god, No,
not because of how good it is, but because of
the highway location, the type of workers that we have
around here, the shift workers, all of that kind of stuff,
that it would be one heck of a draw. Now
on Facebook, Jake said the Grove, Yeah, what was the grove?

Speaker 4 (21:34):
Grove was out in Morristown and it was kind of
like a steakhouse slash bar restaurant.

Speaker 6 (21:40):
Okay, is that where it burnt down?

Speaker 3 (21:42):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (21:43):
Okay, I mean, blim Daddy could probably tell you more
about the grove than I could. I mean, I remember
eating there several times, but I was young, and I
want to say like high school, college, maybe maybe even
a little bit younger. But I remember going there with
my mom and dad and it was one of the
best steaks I ever had.

Speaker 7 (21:59):
That's what it was.

Speaker 6 (22:00):
Was it known for its stakes for some reason?

Speaker 4 (22:02):
That's what I'm pretty sure that. I'm pretty sure it
was known for this. I mean it was known for
just the food there. It was just outstanding. But the
stakes were definitely good.

Speaker 6 (22:10):
And it's no reasonable and it's not where so the
building's gone, yes, okay, okay, I was thinking it's.

Speaker 7 (22:18):
Where Chaps is located.

Speaker 4 (22:21):
It was in that area, okay.

Speaker 6 (22:24):
Because that building has been several different restaurants.

Speaker 4 (22:27):
I don't remember specifically where it was. Again, I'm talking
forty years ago, but yeah, I mean it's it was good. Yeah,
that was a good it was. I mean, it wasn't
a franchise. It was local.

Speaker 6 (22:38):
Okay, one hundred sixty to forty eleven seventy. If you
have a restaurant you want to call us about or
even fast food, doesn't have to be a sit down
something that you want to see come back to the
area or just you know, reminisce of something that was
good that we just don't have anymore. Call us one
in hundred sixty two fort eleven seventy, or of course
you can leave us a message on our text line
three zero three eight two. And started off with bloom Daddy.

(23:01):
Like I said, Jake said, the grove ab says your steakhouse.
So we're going back a few years there. So of course,
like I said, just reach out you have one. We
want to hear about it. So guess who's in the
news otis somebody who is your favorite I think favorite musician.

Speaker 4 (23:20):
Oh yes, yeah, Sid mouthed off somewhere ever in England. Yes, yes,
I didn't receive what he said, but I just saw
that he had said something, and I'm like, I'm not
even looking.

Speaker 6 (23:30):
Okay, So I have it for you. So this is
he's kicking off his most recent tour. And you know,
if I'm paying, what would you say is the average
cost of a Bruce Springsteen ticket right now?

Speaker 4 (23:44):
Yeah? Probably a minimum before fees two fifty Okay, So.

Speaker 6 (23:51):
You're you're dishing out that cast. You go see a musician,
you want to hear him sing. Right, You do not
want preach to their political views. Well, unfortunately, that's what
the people in England experienced as he basically attacked the
president verbally along with you know, additional American lawmakers. Some

(24:13):
of the things he said was, let's see here in America,
they're persecuting people for using their right to freedom, free
speech and voicing their descent. The richest men are taking
satisfaction and abandoning abandoning the world's poorest children to sickness
and death. Okay, they're taking sadistic pleasure and the pain

(24:39):
they inflict on loyal American workers. They're abandoning our great
allies and siding with dictators against those struggling for their freedom.
They are defunding American universities that won't bow down to
their ideological demands. And it goes on and goes on

(25:02):
and goes on.

Speaker 4 (25:03):
Yeah, you know again, as much as I like his music,
I can't stand these political views. If I ever sat
down and had it in an interview with Bruce, it
would be about the song gred right, it would be.
It would be it would be about the music, when
and how things come about. Not a fan of his

(25:23):
political views, not a fan of where he stands on
that not a fan of when he does this at concerts.
I saw it in twenty sixteen. When I went and
saw him in September. There was no political agenda whatsoever,
which was surprising because it was, you know, only a
couple of months before the election. He said, like one

(25:48):
one or two sentences before one song, and it really
it was just basically how you wanted to interpret it,
as far as that's how I took it. Yeah, you know,
he said, you know, and I can't remember exactly what
it was, but that was the only thing. It was
like one or two sentences before one specific song, and
it was done. I mean, he didn't preach, didn't pull

(26:10):
the constitution out, didn't do anything.

Speaker 7 (26:12):
This was a die tribe. This was a preach.

Speaker 4 (26:14):
Yeah, and he's been known to do that. And of
course he's on foreign soil, so you know, I mean,
but here's a guy that has very little concept of reality.
You know, he knew what reality was sixty years ago
when he was maybe growing up as a you know,
twelve thirteen, fourteen year old kid struggling financially parents, you know,

(26:39):
you struggling to get by.

Speaker 7 (26:40):
He's very comfortable.

Speaker 4 (26:42):
Oh, he's a billionaire, right, you know, so don't think
that he's not you know, you know, if they say, oh,
there's taxes coming to the rich, well, he guess who's
going to get benefit from it? He is, you know,
he doesn't live in reality.

Speaker 6 (26:54):
Right as the majority of them don't.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
Well, and but then again there when you took it,
when you take somebody that's an artist, okay, whether whether
it be an actor, a singer, songwriter, whether it be
a painter, you know, sculptor whatever, they think differently, you know,
and I'm not that's not it's not a knock, but

(27:18):
they don't think like we think.

Speaker 6 (27:19):
No, and they also tend to have this higher viewpoint
of that, like this sanctimonious attitude where they.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
Are so much more they think they're smarter.

Speaker 6 (27:33):
Yeah. Yeah, But Kid Rock had a response, of course
he did, which is.

Speaker 7 (27:38):
Actually kind of funny. We'll get into that.

Speaker 6 (27:40):
Seven forty six The bloom Daddy Experience Otis and Sam
News Radio eleven seventy w w v A. Seven fifty
one The bloom Daddy Experience Sam and Otis News Radio
eleven seventy WWVA on the text line, got a message,

(28:04):
says the grove. We were talking about it earlier, because,
of course, our question for today is what restaurant, fast foods,
sit down, whatever ice cream stand doesn't matter, would you
like to see come back? Of course, this goes back
to the rax thing that happened yesterday that got my
gears going, and Otis and I were like, hiss to

(28:24):
the racks. But put it up on Facebook, and one
person said the Grove Well on our text line got
an explanation. The Grove restaurant was located where the Grove
apartment complex is now located, which is on the south
side of Route forty, just past Route forty Lumberjacks. Okay,
so there we go. Thank you didn't give us a name,

(28:46):
but thank you for that. You want to leave us
a message three zero three eight to two. Start the
message off with bloom Daddy, and then we shall receive
it and tell us what food place would you like
to see return. One of the other big ones that
we got on our Facebook page was what I say,
I said the Grove Elbe's.

Speaker 7 (29:10):
Elbe's always Well, it's not the same. I worked at Elbe's.

Speaker 6 (29:15):
It's not the same anyways. So back into what we
were talking about before the break, which of course was
mister Bruce Springsteen in his sanctimonious speech to kick off
his tour over in England, where he made a lot
of accusations, it was let's put it this way, it

(29:38):
was trumped arrangement syndrome on stage, highlighted and people paid
to see it. Is what it comes down to. Well,
another rock star, not to the level of Springsteen and
success will say. I spoke out, and of course that
is kid Rock. And if you have been following a

(29:58):
lot of everything that's been going on politically, kid Rock
has kind of burst onto the scene. He's been he
was on the campaign trail, He's been to the White
House in quite the suit. If you didn't get to
see that, I think there's an entire sequence business that
went out went out thanks to the suit. But anyways,

(30:19):
he decided to speak out last night on Jesse Waters
Primetime on Fox. He had this to say, pound for
pound when it comes to Heartland rock and roll, Bruce
Springsteen's made some great songs, but Bob Seger smokes him
any day of the week. I got the eye roll,
eye roll.

Speaker 4 (30:39):
I was expecting Bob Seers from Detroit and says kid Rock.

Speaker 6 (30:42):
Ah, yeah, Okay, he also added, Bruce Springsteen's another one
of these liberals with mountains of money, desperate to keep
his good standing with Hollywood and the elite. I can't
agree with me more. And that's where there has become
this disconnect, and quite frankly, people are sick of it.

(31:05):
Where the elites, whether it's an athlete, whether it's an actor,
George Clooney, Lebron James, a musician, Bruce Springsteen, who, as
Kid Rock put it, mountains of money. They sit atop
these mountains of money and dictate to you and I

(31:28):
their world views.

Speaker 7 (31:31):
And how we.

Speaker 6 (31:34):
The working man and woman need to bow down to
their worldviews.

Speaker 7 (31:41):
They are right, we are wrong. They are smarter.

Speaker 6 (31:45):
Than you and I, and hence they have the power
to tell us how things are when they don't live
in reality. Otis said that earlier they don't live in reality,
and it's one hundred sent true, one hundred percent true.
I saw a great meme last night or the night before,

(32:10):
and I think it. I think it lays it out
plainly and visually for everybody to understand.

Speaker 7 (32:15):
You know, there are.

Speaker 6 (32:16):
Those that are sitting, you know, sitting atop the mountains
from the ivory towers, if you will once again, who
are telling us that democracy is being stamped upon, stumped
upon due process? You know, these illegal immigrants. You know

(32:36):
what we're doing is is fascists in marks. All these
terms are being thrown around to basically paint those that
believe in securing our borders, supporting the American worker, supporting
the American dollar, and bringing manufacturing back to our country

(32:56):
were the racists and whatever other title they want to
put upon us. But this meme was great. Those that
are preaching to us how to live and that, for example,
the wall along the southern border that is being built
currently to stiphen the illegal immigration by illegal aliens or

(33:22):
to curtail what the prior administration administration created this absolute
epidemic that that wall is completely against democracy and it's evil.
But guess what, ladies and gentlemen, those that are sitting
there preaching to us that that wall is evil are

(33:48):
sitting behind behind their very own private walls, keeping everybody,
keeping everybody out of their rich and intent titled world. So,
if you don't believe in walls to these rich Hollywood elites,

(34:12):
lower yours and let the real world in, let them in,
because you don't have an argument behind your private walls.
Seven fifty eight. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience.
Sam and otis coming up. We're gonna have chances for

(34:33):
you with uh to win this morning. Of course, we
have got wheeling miners and more. George, there are good.
We're gonna jump to a quick break the bloom Daddy Experience.

Speaker 1 (34:46):
See number one Tuck Show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
on news Radio eleven SEVENTYVA starts now.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
News Radio eleven seventy It's the Blue Daddy Experience. Hey,
it's eighth six. Let's get this hour rolling. Welcome to
the show, and good Friday morning to you. We made
another weekend. Thankfully for that.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (35:17):
Saw the headline of the Times Leader. Local resident files
afid David over football game incident in October.

Speaker 5 (35:23):
And this is Brent Gay.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
He's a resident of Flushing, and he is wanting charges
filed against Von Butler, longtime assistant coach football basketball at
Union Local. I know both these individuals very well. I
have the utmost respect for Brent Gay. I've got the
utmost respect for Von Butler. I know everybody involved. After
this altercation happened, I had people reach out to me,

(35:47):
I talk to people who saw it happen. Okay, what
I'm gonna say about this is pretty simple. This should
never escalate to this point. And what I mean by
that is Brent Gay and Von Butler know each other
very well. They know each other very well. They're both

(36:09):
huge Union Local supporters. I don't know anybody who loves
Union Local more than Von Butler, and I probably don't
know anybody that loves Union Local more than Brent Gay.

Speaker 5 (36:19):
And the fact that it's reached.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
This point with two people who I consider friends is
disturbing to me. And I'm not going to sit here
in point a finger at either one. I'm just gonna
say this, Brent Gay was wrong to even approach Von
Butler at a football game. No fan should approach a
coach anywhere as a matter of fact, whether it's Union Local, Barnesville,

(36:42):
Wheeling Park, wherever it may be. Coaches should be off
limits during sporting events, and if you approach one in
a controversial manner, you should be banned.

Speaker 5 (36:52):
From sporting events, whether it's the rest of the year
or whatever.

Speaker 3 (36:55):
And I would tell Brent to his face that it
was wrong of him to go and do this.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
That's just not the place.

Speaker 3 (37:04):
At the same time, with Vaughan, I mean, you're trying
to avoid contact, You're trying to avoid any kind of altercation.
Did he do everything in his power to just walk away?
As hard as it is, I don't know. Maybe he didn't,
and maybe he's at fault for that. But what I
would say to both of these individuals, as a union

(37:28):
local graduate, as somebody who's friends with both these guys,
is come on, come on, and specifically to Brent, come on.
I mean, the evidence doesn't back you up. Why are
you doing this? I mean, I get it you're mad
about the incident, maybe you feel you were wronged, But
is it worth it? Is it worth having your name

(37:49):
in the spotlight? Is it worth causing grief to a
school you love, to a guy you were friends with.
I hate seeing things escalate to this level. He got
a law firm out of Cleveland saying that Van Butler
violently attacked him. That's simply not backed up by the evidence.
Belmont County Assistant prosecutor Joe Vavra, his office reviewed everything

(38:13):
and he said there's nothing here that there's no punches
were thrown. Physical contact consisted essentially of shoving. You also
have Gay's law firm out of Cleveland saying that the
two police officers involved here, one from the Barnswell Police
Department and a deputy from the Belmont County Sheriff's office,

(38:34):
that they obstructed justice, that they basically shielded.

Speaker 5 (38:37):
Butler, they took up for Butler.

Speaker 3 (38:39):
I've talked to people who were there who saw what happened,
and all of them say that Brent Gay shouldn't have
done what he did, that it escalated things, it instigated things,
and everybody thought it was going to be done. Barnsvill's
police chief, Rocky Siriani, said, they interviewed people, they got
statements from the involved parties and witnesses, forward them to

(39:02):
the prosecutors, and based on all the info, the prosecutor's
office determined no criminal charges. And he said one of
the involved parties didn't like the outcome of no charges,
so he's continuing to press it on again. You have
a situation here involving two people who love that school
and two people who used to be friends. Why, I

(39:26):
mean why, And I would say to Brent, just let
it go, just walk away, and at some point, you know,
maybe these two guys get together, share a beer, and
move on with your lives. It's not worth all of this. Now,
with that said, let's get back to the incident. And

(39:47):
I use that one as an example because it's making
the news. But I hear all the time now of
coaches at many schools here in the valley being shouted at,
yelled at, conf running by parents or whoever. It's got
to stop, and the only way you're going to stop
it is administrators need to get balls and start banning people.

Speaker 5 (40:10):
That's it.

Speaker 3 (40:10):
There's no second chance, there's no third chance. If you
confront a coach at a basketball game, or a football game,
or a basement wherever it may be, your banned. You're
not allowed on school property for the remainder of the year.
You're not allowed to come to any school functions period.
I mean, this has got to stop, and the only

(40:31):
way you're going to stop it is if you are
just solid with your stance, and that stance should be
it will never be acceptable to confront a coach anywhere.
If you want to talk to a coach about something,
schedule a meeting with the athletic director, with the superintendent,
and then you have a sit down with a number

(40:53):
of different parties and you talk it out. There's proper
protocol to follow. I don't adhere to that. If they're
not forced to adhere to that, you're gonna have situations
or fans. If they're not forced to adhere to that,
you're gonna have situations like the one I'm talking about
that transpired at the Bournesville football game. Superintendents, school board

(41:17):
members have got to quit being afraid. They got to
quit playing favorites with people they know. They can't worry
about how much money somebody gives to a school or
how much support somebody gives to a school.

Speaker 5 (41:29):
It's gotta be.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
If you confront a coach, you're gone for the year,
and if you do it again, you're never coming back
here or else. I'm gonna continue talking about things like
I am today here on this Friday morning. You gonna
take a break. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience.
Eleven seventy wwva oh.

Speaker 6 (41:57):
It's eight A team in this Friday morning is by Finally,
I know this week you're listening to the bloom Daddy experience.
Of course that was otis. I'm saying, I'm here on
news radio eleven seventy WWVA joining us in studio. Now
we have our good friend Howard Carnell from West Banco
Arena in the Capital Theater here to talk about what's

(42:19):
on tap in a big announcement. We're gonna hold off
on net. Okay, so I'm gonna quiz you first. Oh boy,
you know what happens when you come in here on
a Friday tim.

Speaker 4 (42:28):
With Tuss who does Yeah.

Speaker 6 (42:31):
That's why we're in this business. No, So our question
of the day is, Okay, old food joints, restaurants, whether
fast food, sit down? Something from the past that you
would love to see back. And this was sparked by
a photo we got of somebody visiting a rax in
southern West Virginia.

Speaker 2 (42:48):
Yeah, right right Racks. I used to frequent the Racks
that was right across the street from Parkersburg south by
US School brought up, and I got to know the
owner for a while because I would tell him he'd
be in there and I'd say I got to take
six BBC's home for my whole family, right, ras would
be one. And then you know what I miss. I
missed the old Elbie's at the corner of National Road

(43:11):
there and the hot fudge cake and all that and
the Big Boy. Now, we were at a hockey tournament
in Detroit, Michigan area, and they honestly had a Big Boy,
full size statue in the facility. I don't remember what
the connection was, but it was that Big Boy. Remember

(43:33):
the Big Boy statue holding the double burger in the facility.
I walked in. I was like, man, I may never
leave this place. Big boys standing there in hockey all weekend.
It was unbelievable. But I'd say, you know, Elbie's was great.
You know the other one that you miss, and it's
sort of weird. I like liver and onions, I know,
and zines had great.

Speaker 4 (43:56):
Scenes.

Speaker 2 (43:56):
Remember yeah, yeah, scenes was good and when I went
and I know, that's the reaction I get with everyone.
I love liver and onions, and that's what I would get.

Speaker 6 (44:06):
Listen.

Speaker 7 (44:07):
I waited tables at Big Boy at the High Valley Mall.

Speaker 6 (44:09):
Oh, Okay, you're high schooling through part of college, and
I always had to work a Sunday and you would
come home that smell of liver and onions. Oh god,
I don't know what it was about. On Sundays. It
was the after church crowd, you know. They'd leave you
a nickel, was a tip. That's a whole other topic,
but yeah, you would smell like that liver and I can't,
I can't. We got it.

Speaker 2 (44:30):
Well, that's my generation. There you go, that's us.

Speaker 6 (44:33):
We got an email real quick from Greg that said
Tony's Pizza in South You remember, you know that one?

Speaker 4 (44:40):
Yeah? I don't. I don't remember that Tony. Everybody thought
Tony was a hit man at one point in time.
I mean, and this is gonna sound gross, but when
Tony would make the sauce, you'd go into this little
place you'd see making the sauce and the sweat would
drip off his head and sometimes it would go in
the sauce. But if you ordered like so, it was
it was kind of like a De Carlo's. It was
just where pizza type stuff, you know, but if you

(45:02):
ask for extra cheese, you could not close the lid
on the box because he would just load it down
with cheese. Like you it was like a heart attack
waiting to happen.

Speaker 2 (45:11):
The north part of Wheeling version of that up in
warlings Menini's Yeah yeah, and Mark Zembar all the time
was there. That was always a great visit.

Speaker 6 (45:19):
So the anchor room marisus, Oh yeah.

Speaker 2 (45:22):
Let's get with we're not talking about wife worked at
the anchor Room and fall in beach Bottom.

Speaker 6 (45:27):
Yeah, yeah, that was that was a fancy place.

Speaker 4 (45:29):
Okay.

Speaker 6 (45:29):
Yeah, So let's let's get off of the food things.

Speaker 2 (45:31):
So Howard here or no, now, you made me hungry.

Speaker 7 (45:34):
My bellies rumbling.

Speaker 6 (45:35):
So we're here to talk about the Capitol Theater and
of course West Bank Arena, so jump into it. We
come coming up.

Speaker 7 (45:40):
We have Brandley Gilbert.

Speaker 2 (45:42):
You know, it's a it's just crazy how the facilities
can be busy and sort of behind the scenes is
you don't realize all the different functions. Right now, we're
in the midst of graduation season in West banko arena
is jammed. We have West Virginia Northern's graduation last night.
John Marshalls elected to move theirs inside to the arena

(46:02):
tonight because of weather concerns. We have a miners game
tomorrow and then we have Wheeling Park High school's graduation Sunday,
so really busy at the arena. Then Tuesday we have
the OVAC Banquet of Champions, which if you've never been
a highly recommend it amazing all these young athletes and

(46:22):
students and what they accomplish. And then you're right. On Thursday,
we bring Brandley Gilbert into the arena. We're really excited
about that evening. We announced last week that Bill's Towing
has been gracious enough to be the sponsor for a
pre show party in the street. So we're gonna block
off Water Street from the intersection at Naylor's Way up

(46:45):
to just south of Waterfront Haul. We're gonna have food
trucks there, We're gonna have vendors there. Betsy Dale Hats
is going to be there so that you can take
a look at the cowboy hats and other hats that
she makes, and we're offering some other people to come
down and display there. We're gonna have a DJ the
food trucks, we're going to have his Max's Food truck

(47:07):
is going to be there. He has stands in the arena.

Speaker 7 (47:12):
Well back to.

Speaker 6 (47:12):
Bill's Towing just real quick, they're bringing in the really
big toe truck exactly.

Speaker 2 (47:16):
That's how we're blocking the street off. Is they're going
to bring in the big Wreckords and instead of putting
I don't know how far they're going to let people go,
but we're going to park them at both ends of
the street so that you can get a good look
at him. And that's a pretty neat feature that we
like with with Bill's towing, is to be able to
do that and walk the street off.

Speaker 7 (47:38):
And of course tickets are still available for Brandley Gill
absolutely now.

Speaker 2 (47:41):
The pre party's free, So if you don't have a
ticket to the show, what we'd love for you to
do is come down and party in the street with
us for a little while and then walk up by
a ticket and go to the show. That would be great.
But we're gonna have a cash bar available to you
for with beer and wine. The DJ's Brian Tenel, and

(48:01):
we're going to have an Old Washington Music Fest that's
going on in July. They're going to have a display
there and they're going to be giving out some different
swag for people in attendance, and we're hoping that the
miners come down and do some things as well in
preparation for their game on the twenty fourth.

Speaker 6 (48:21):
Well, and then just this week and tickets go on sale.
This morning was the announcement for Kansas Jefferson Starship, So
classic rock fans out there here you go.

Speaker 2 (48:30):
Absolutely, we're really excited about that. That's going to be Friday,
August twenty second. And it just falls into again what
Kelly Tucker is doing as executive director is how diverse
all the acts are that she's trying to bring in.
We just recently announced in August that in this moment
is coming back to Wheeling. They were here about a

(48:51):
year and a half ago, early December of twenty twenty
three with Ice, nine Kills and a couple of other
acts at West Banco Arena. Well, they're doing on a
twenty three show in thirty day tour and it's all theaters.
They're trying to branch into theaters. But yeah, it's amazing
and trying to really kick off our summer. What I

(49:13):
think is neat and I hope we continue to do it.
Is Brantley Gilbert's Thursday the twenty second. If you have
an extra vacation day to burn, we party with us.
Go to the show. Take Friday to twenty third off
you've got a four day weekend for Memorial Day weekend, you.

Speaker 4 (49:30):
Can take it sick date.

Speaker 2 (49:32):
Yeah, oh yeah, right, either way vacation day or I
slipped and fell.

Speaker 4 (49:36):
Yeah right.

Speaker 6 (49:37):
Well, in this time of year, a lot of people
think that a lot of venues, it kind of slows
down the enclosed venues at You're slow time, right, that's
not happening with the arena in the Capitol.

Speaker 3 (49:45):
No.

Speaker 2 (49:45):
And the nice thing that we have saying that we
can do is we can almost play ping pong. We
have two facilities to play back and forth. So right now,
you're right, we're really jam packed at the arena. But
then on the thirty first, we have Travis Tritt here
at the Capitol Theater.

Speaker 7 (50:02):
People are pumped for that one.

Speaker 2 (50:04):
And that really rolls into a really busy June at
the Capitol. Yeah, you know, you have Travis Tritt. Then
there's a Dance Factory show on June first, the next day,
then on June fifth, we have Static X and Gwar.
I hear that's a theatrical show and really heavy hard wrong.

Speaker 4 (50:24):
Gar is very unique.

Speaker 6 (50:31):
They're the ones, now tell me if I'm wrong. They're
the ones that look.

Speaker 4 (50:34):
Like the.

Speaker 6 (50:37):
Masks on like Jerry Springer and the nineties.

Speaker 4 (50:41):
They did some stuff for Dan Patrick at one time,
and then the lead singer died.

Speaker 7 (50:46):
Well he won't be.

Speaker 2 (50:46):
Here, Yeah, no, but I'm looking forward to it. I
don't know what to expect.

Speaker 4 (50:51):
Dan Patrick has the guar mask in his studio.

Speaker 2 (50:54):
Oh okay, I didn't know that it would.

Speaker 6 (50:56):
Be an experience, right, exactly right, right.

Speaker 2 (50:58):
And then later in the month we have for a
lot of the old time music of fishing autos. We
have Steve Earle coming in. You may not recognize the name,
but you will recognize Copperhead Road is his biggest hit ever.
He's coming in and he's going to play acoustically, which
I think again is a neat spin on having him

(51:19):
come into town. Late. The following week, June twenty fourth,
Indigo Girls is here. And then another unique kind of
show we're bringing in.

Speaker 6 (51:30):
Well, how about this tell us what the big Let's
get into the big surprise, the big announcement. If we
can't or we might, let's what do we have? We
have about thirty seconds left, forty forty.

Speaker 2 (51:42):
Well, then let me let me throw the last show
out in June at the Capitol.

Speaker 6 (51:47):
And then why don't you just hang out with us
during the break if.

Speaker 2 (51:49):
You're a yeah, George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers are going
to be here at the Capitol on Saturday, June twenty eighth.

Speaker 6 (51:56):
And that's a perfect high end because you're gonna hang
out with it because we're gonna have your chance to
win a pair of George tickets after the here before
the end of the show.

Speaker 7 (52:05):
So hold on for that.

Speaker 6 (52:06):
We're gonna have that here shortly, and Howard is going
to hang out with us here a little bit longer,
of course, from the Capitol Theater in West Banko Arena.
It's eight twenty eight.

Speaker 7 (52:13):
We're gonna go to a quick break.

Speaker 6 (52:14):
You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience Otis and Sam
News Radio eleven seventy w w VA, Welcobec. It's eight
thirty six on this Friday, The Bloomdaddy Experience Sam and
Otis News Radio eleven seventy w w VA. Well he
hung around, I asked nicely. He decided to say Howard.

(52:38):
Of course, Howard Carnell with the Capitol Theater in West Banco.

Speaker 4 (52:41):
Hang around because here's the thing. He can either sit
here or go to work or go to work, hang out.
Rather sit here than go to work.

Speaker 2 (52:48):
I was about ready to put my feet up on
the table. Hey, who was that music? Leading in?

Speaker 4 (52:53):
Who knows? Oh? Beautiful like that?

Speaker 7 (52:55):
This music?

Speaker 4 (52:56):
Yeah, we're not allowed to play real music.

Speaker 2 (52:59):
You guys know. Once I'm like the stray dog in
the neighborhood. Once you let me in and feed me,
I'm here for six months.

Speaker 6 (53:07):
Right, we have a vegi Yeah, yeah, yeah, right, that's true.
You guys are both sports guys. So here's a little
sports trivia for you this morning, on this day in
nineteen eighty five, in.

Speaker 7 (53:18):
The world of basketball.

Speaker 6 (53:20):
I'll give you a hint. What happened nineteen eighty five?

Speaker 4 (53:25):
Eighty five? World of basketball had to be something with
the NBA.

Speaker 2 (53:29):
Yeah, and you would think it's got to be something
with Bird and Magic.

Speaker 4 (53:33):
The Lakers three peated. No, I don't know. Eighty five.

Speaker 2 (53:38):
Well, my only other guest would be, was this the
day that Jabbar passed whoever maybe to become the number
one scorer in career history?

Speaker 6 (53:47):
No, Michael Jordan was named Rookie of the.

Speaker 4 (53:50):
Year eighty five.

Speaker 7 (53:52):
That's what it says.

Speaker 4 (53:53):
Hey.

Speaker 2 (53:54):
The amazing thing is he wasn't first or second in
the draft.

Speaker 4 (53:57):
The year before Samboo Sambooi was number one, and.

Speaker 2 (54:01):
Yeah booie and then who went who else went before him?
Was it?

Speaker 4 (54:04):
Was it Drexler.

Speaker 2 (54:05):
I don't know Drexler, Melvin Turpin, and I can't remember
who went second. I'd have to look. I thought I
thought I thought Jordan was a rookie, like in, I
trust Sam.

Speaker 6 (54:16):
This is from one of our sources that you know,
provides us with funny little things for the show.

Speaker 2 (54:22):
And you know they're bringing him back in. Michael, Jordan's
getting back involved with the NBA to do some analysis
for the playoffs and whatnot. So that's great. That's good
to have all the greats involved.

Speaker 7 (54:33):
Yeah, and NBC and Peacocks who he's going to be
working with.

Speaker 2 (54:36):
That's awesome. That's fantastic. You know, all the greats are
getting back in. Gretzky's involved with NHL and whatnot. So
that's fantastic. Good news. Man, nineteen eighty five.

Speaker 6 (54:46):
Once you have that spotlight, it kind of pulls you
back after a while.

Speaker 2 (54:49):
I'm sure forty years may have that went.

Speaker 7 (54:53):
By fast like that makes you feel.

Speaker 2 (54:55):
Old, unbelievable. Yeah, yeah, sure, Well let's.

Speaker 6 (54:59):
Get back into the music and everything that's happening. So
we mentioned before the break George Thoroughgood is coming, and
of course we're gonna have your chance to win a
pair of tickets to those here before the end of
the show, everybody, so stick with us for that. We're
gonna give you that information here shortly, so we're gonna
have your chance to win. But we were talking about Gwar,
so I pulled up the pictures while we're doing the break.

(55:21):
All I can say is they look like the bad
guys from he Man come to life. Like I don't
know how what.

Speaker 7 (55:30):
Is the music?

Speaker 3 (55:30):
Is it?

Speaker 2 (55:31):
I think it's really heavy, heavy, progressive speed rock. I
think this is what yeah. I mean, I don't know
how they classify those different genres anymore, but I would guess.
And I'm a heavy metal guy. I'm an ACDC grew
up on all the hard rock stuff, and some of
that I like, some of it I don't. So I'm

(55:52):
gonna work it and listen to it and see what
I think of it.

Speaker 6 (55:55):
So so Gwar and the Indigo Girls would not tour
again other not the same audience.

Speaker 2 (56:01):
We'll say, right, I don't think you're gonna put them
on a twin bill that same day.

Speaker 6 (56:08):
Okay, and we were talking some things coming up. Most
recently announced of course Kansas with Jefferson starship.

Speaker 4 (56:17):
Right.

Speaker 6 (56:17):
But for the families out there, got you know, grandkids
or your little ones, this is new Gabby's Dollhouse.

Speaker 7 (56:25):
Yes, it's a neither of us are real familiar with that.

Speaker 6 (56:29):
But for those out there who have the kids, you
know exactly what we're talking about.

Speaker 2 (56:33):
I understand it's it's going to be a huge straw
for the young families.

Speaker 4 (56:38):
You know.

Speaker 2 (56:38):
I've aged out now. My youngest turned twenty three this week,
so I've aged that.

Speaker 6 (56:43):
Well.

Speaker 2 (56:44):
I'm the old Thomas the tank engine and rugrats, you know.
But but I hear that this is a big gap
for the city and young families will be able to
go and see it. I'm just not familiar with it.

Speaker 7 (56:57):
Yeah, and we teased a big announce so.

Speaker 2 (57:02):
Looking forward to it. You know. The both facilities tend
to bring in either region or regional excuse me, or
national acts, but we're looking at the other open dates.
What can we do locally to help the local families,
local bands, local businesses. So they're breaking it here, We're

(57:22):
going to break it later. On social media that the
West Banco Arena is going to be the new home
for the Pepsi First Friday's Summer Concert Series. Okay, you
know they did it many years at Center Market. Last
year didn't do the concerts, and we're not going to
do it this year. And we felt at the arena

(57:42):
we didn't want to let something like that die. So
we're going to bring the with the help of Pepsi,
the First Friday's Concert Series to the northwest patio of
the arena. So that's the patio that sits above the
outdoor restrooms you can get to. It overlooks the river,
It overlooks the Suspension Bridge and Heritage Port. Just a

(58:06):
beautiful patio. They put up a thirty by forty canopy
tent up there yesterday so that whether if it's light,
rain or drizzle won't affect the night. So we're gonna
have that on June sixth. July fourth is the first
Friday in July, so that'll be exciting. We're gonna do
some different things to tie in with this symphony and

(58:28):
then the fireworks August first and September fifth.

Speaker 6 (58:32):
So and I was gonna say thanks to the renovations
that were recently done over the past couple of years
at Westbank Arena and having these new outdoor patios that
opens the door to be able to facilitate events like this.

Speaker 2 (58:46):
Exactly and it works great. The restrooms down below the
patio or clean top notch used for other events that
are based at the Heritage Port. And the nice option
that we have should be severe in clement weather, we
can get in. We have the keys right, we can
move it in and use the bar on the bridge,

(59:07):
the bridge bar that bridge that's above the main entryway.
We got some different options that we can do. We're
hoping that the weather holds out and the canopy is
good enough. But it's a beautiful area. I recommend if
you've never been there, get onto that Northwest patio and
take a look. It's just amazing.

Speaker 6 (59:27):
Now with of course free Fridays, just announce that you
guys are going to be the host. Is that free
to the public, Yes, that's what I thought.

Speaker 2 (59:36):
It'll be a free entry. We will have food trucks
in the street that you can get food before the
show or during the show if you want. We'll have
a beer, wine and full full bar on the bridge
inside so that you can go in and get drinks,
some beer and whatnot. And we'll have some table and

(01:00:00):
chairs out underneath there. But I know a lot of
people like to come the first Fridays and throw their
lawn chair out and sit in it, so there'll be
area there they can do that as well. We only
have June sixth confirmed because we just found out early
this week that we could host it. But on June
sixth we have the New Age of Dinas and Bucket

(01:00:21):
of Puppies coming. The reason for it. Yeah, I'm not familiar,
but I'm excited. Bucket of Puppies.

Speaker 6 (01:00:27):
Yeah, I know New Age Adenas okay.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
Yeah, And what we'll do is the event will be
five pm to eleven pm each night. Music will go
six to eight and then nine to eleven, so one
band will play six to eight, one bandle play nine
to eleven. For the June sixth show, we have the
Gringo food truck and Sonuts for Donuts will be on

(01:00:52):
the street for you depending on the flavor that you're
interested in that night. Right, And we really take a
look at it. In talking about it once we knew
we had the opportunity to take it We looked at
it and said, how can we do something that's affordable,
fun for the local community and through all the ages.
When you take a look at that area, you go

(01:01:13):
down the steps and what's right there is the splash
pad that the city put in, so young families can
come down there, have their kids run around, jump in
the splash pad, have fun. You're still going to be
able to hear the music.

Speaker 6 (01:01:24):
And what if there's others that want to get involved,
so other food trucks or say different vendors. Is that open?

Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
Absolutely? Always give us a call. Bands as well, give
us a call if you're interested. We'll try to work
you in. The phone number for the arena in our
offices is three four two three three seven thousand, and
then my extensions one thirteen if you want to call
me and I can send you in the right direction.

Speaker 6 (01:01:51):
Wonderful. And also you can reach out to us and
I will get you in contact with Howard.

Speaker 4 (01:01:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:01:55):
Sure you want to be a vendor, want to be
a food truck? Want to be involved somehow I can
get you.

Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
Yeah, but come down. We really want more people to
migrate toward that waterstrunt waterfront Haul River City. Our arena
and make that the focal point Heritage Port. We're really
excited as we try to figure out July fourth on
what we can do leading up to the symphony at
eight and then the fireworks after this symphony. We just

(01:02:22):
think that'll be a great combination.

Speaker 6 (01:02:24):
Wonderful, wonderful. So again, Brandley Gilbert on tap for next week.

Speaker 7 (01:02:28):
Tickets still available.

Speaker 2 (01:02:29):
I'm down and join us. Yes, yeah, If you need
tickets use three oh four two three three seven thousand,
Option one or www dot Westbancoarena dot com.

Speaker 7 (01:02:41):
Wonderful.

Speaker 2 (01:02:41):
You can get them as a walk up. Come to
the pre party four to seven.

Speaker 7 (01:02:44):
It's gonna be a good time.

Speaker 2 (01:02:45):
Thanks to Bill's tone. Yeah yeah, yeah, come and join us,
and thanks for having me.

Speaker 7 (01:02:49):
Guys appreciate it absolutely.

Speaker 6 (01:02:51):
It's a forty six. We're gonna go to a quick break.
You're listening to the Bloomdaddy Experience. Sam and Otis News
Radio eleven seventy wwva, Oh we are back eight fifty one.
We're gonna be wrapping up here shortly on this Friday.

(01:03:12):
But that was a fun conversation. Listen the things that
are going on at West Bank Arena and.

Speaker 7 (01:03:16):
The Capitol Theater.

Speaker 6 (01:03:16):
These guys are busy. They are busy down there.

Speaker 4 (01:03:20):
We kind of missed what we were doing here because
we were trying to get Howard out of here. And
that's not a bad thing.

Speaker 6 (01:03:26):
No, No, Listen, Like I said, they're busy, they're having fun.
They're bringing great things.

Speaker 7 (01:03:30):
Here to our area.

Speaker 6 (01:03:31):
So you know, kudos to them and everything that they're
pulling off and the different acts that they're bringing. I mean, listen,
I'm not saying this just because they're friends of show
and this and that. It's the truth. They are really
working hard to bring us different things. Where did my
thing go?

Speaker 7 (01:03:48):
Oh? Speaking of you know the Memorial Day weekends? What
next weekend?

Speaker 6 (01:03:52):
Yes, well, today we're gonna kick it off a little
bit early. It's National Barbecue Day.

Speaker 7 (01:03:59):
We gotta still talk about food.

Speaker 6 (01:04:01):
I am I am hungry. I'm not usually hungry in
the morning. I don't know if it's because we have
been talking about food. I don't know if I'm thinking
about a BBC and and a sandwich and all of that.
I don't know what it is, but it is National
Barbecue Day. And then along with that, this isn't exactly
the right combo with barbecue. It's National Mimosa day. Hint, hint,

(01:04:25):
anybody Mimosa's delivered, I would not turn it down. Acts that.
I did not say that. No, I did not say that.

Speaker 4 (01:04:37):
I just if somebody makes it at their house and
they bring it, that wouldn't be a problem.

Speaker 6 (01:04:40):
Oh okay, okay, yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:04:45):
But it's not like we could just you know, like
our good friends at River City can't make you a
mimosa and bring it up to you.

Speaker 6 (01:04:52):
Oh that's kind of what I was getting at. But
all right, fine, all right, fine.

Speaker 7 (01:04:57):
We had the Kentucky Derby a couple weeks ago.

Speaker 6 (01:05:01):
Well, here is a preview because in the Triple Crown,
the second leg is happening tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (01:05:06):
But there will be no Triple Crown.

Speaker 6 (01:05:08):
Winner because all the winner of the Derby.

Speaker 7 (01:05:12):
Is not going to be in it.

Speaker 4 (01:05:13):
Sovereignty is not going to run in the Preakness.

Speaker 7 (01:05:16):
Oh well that kind of just.

Speaker 4 (01:05:18):
And it's I didn't realize this. It's the fifth time
since twenty eighteen at the winner of the Kentucky Derby
is not running in the Preakness. I don't care.

Speaker 6 (01:05:25):
Why would you not?

Speaker 4 (01:05:28):
The horse maybe, or maybe the length of the track,
is it longer, is it a I believe it's long.
It's not much longer, but it's a little longer, okay,
which means I wouldn't run into Belmont. Or maybe it's
I can't remember exactly which one, but I think you know,
if you win the Kentucky Derby, you almost have to
go for the triple Crown. I mean that's immortality for

(01:05:49):
your horse.

Speaker 7 (01:05:49):
Yeah, that's more money.

Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
For the in stud fees and stuff like that. Now,
now the jockey for Sovereignty has been suspended, so we
don't know if he would have been suspended for this
race or not.

Speaker 6 (01:05:59):
Maybe he's the one that's he Yeah, for.

Speaker 4 (01:06:02):
Excit, he got suspended and fine for excessive whipping. Yeah
or whatever.

Speaker 6 (01:06:06):
I guess, thank you forget. I said that, forgot.

Speaker 4 (01:06:13):
I said that anyway. It's the one hundred and fiftieth
running of the Preakness. I have been to the Preakness,
Oh you have?

Speaker 7 (01:06:20):
Is it a big show.

Speaker 6 (01:06:21):
Like the Derby?

Speaker 4 (01:06:21):
It is? It's I mean it's not because it's I
mean I think it's because it's a second leg. But yeah,
I mean there's all the pomp and circumstance. It's the
Black Eyed Susans. It's uh, there is a you know,
like the mint Joel loops are at the Kentucky Derby.
There's I think it's the Black Eyed Susan drink that
this is in New York, this is in Maryland.

Speaker 7 (01:06:41):
What's the one in New York?

Speaker 4 (01:06:42):
The Belmont that's the next one, all right.

Speaker 6 (01:06:44):
I had him flipped up.

Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
And you know, it's it's, it's, it's. It was a
good time. I was young when I went. I mean
I think I was in the seventh or eighth grade
and actually got you know, I wasn't allowed to bet,
but I picked a whole horse and my horse came
in third and I actually won like thirty bucks because
I only made it two dollars bat I.

Speaker 6 (01:07:06):
Mean yeah, but still yeah, back in that, back in
those days, thirty bucks seventh.

Speaker 4 (01:07:11):
Eighth grade, you're thirteen fourteen, you got thirty bucks in
your pocket. You're ruling the world.

Speaker 7 (01:07:16):
Yeah, you're hitting up a Latins casts.

Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
In the early eighties, you're hitting up as Chess King.
Probably bought a new tie at Chess King or something.

Speaker 6 (01:07:25):
I don't remember. Chess King. That's way before me.

Speaker 4 (01:07:28):
So that's where I bought my vans. Remember the oh yeah,
the checkerboard chessboard vans.

Speaker 7 (01:07:33):
They're still popular.

Speaker 4 (01:07:35):
And then at one point in time I colored them in.
Oh yeah, that was the permanent martners. Yeah, just did
different and that was very OCD about my pattern. They
all had to go in the same order.

Speaker 7 (01:07:45):
You were rainbow before rainbow was cool.

Speaker 4 (01:07:46):
It wasn't really rainbow. It was only like three colors.
I wasn't going rainbow. You might have on rainbow.

Speaker 6 (01:07:53):
No, no, no, we were talking about mimosas because today
is National Mimosa Day.

Speaker 7 (01:07:59):
But listen to this kid. So this is out of
Pennsylvania at Johnstown.

Speaker 6 (01:08:04):
Yeah, being investigated after three elementary school students were apparently
given jello shots by a classmate this week.

Speaker 7 (01:08:15):
It happened at a school in Greater Johnstown.

Speaker 6 (01:08:18):
District. Administrators say the kindergartener brought in the alcoholic gelatin
cups and handed them out. Man, where was he when
we were in school?

Speaker 4 (01:08:27):
He's the party guy.

Speaker 6 (01:08:28):
Yeah. The affected students were sent to an area hospital
for out of of course caution, According to school administrator's
law enforcement is working to determine how the child got
the jello cups.

Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
He just followed the recipe. I'm sure mom and dad
probably had him in the fridge, right, you know what's
your investigation?

Speaker 6 (01:08:50):
Well, and it's a kindergartener. I mean, did they even
know what they were?

Speaker 4 (01:08:54):
Probably not.

Speaker 6 (01:08:54):
I thought he just had jello. There doesn't have.

Speaker 4 (01:08:57):
To be as the other kids walk around the room
playing Duck Duck goo saw messed up and they.

Speaker 6 (01:09:02):
Did not color within the lines.

Speaker 4 (01:09:04):
Yeh, good time.

Speaker 6 (01:09:05):
There doesn't have to be something sinister behind everything. All right,
as we wrap it up for the week and for
this morning, let's do it one in hundred sixty two,
four eleven seventy for your chance to win a pair
of George thorough Good thorough Good tickets. One in hundred
sixty two, four eleven seventy.

Speaker 7 (01:09:21):
What is today?

Speaker 6 (01:09:22):
Today is the sixteenth, So let's do caller number sixteen.

Speaker 4 (01:09:26):
You're living life on this I.

Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
Am I am hardcore. Everybody, have a wonderful, wonderful weekend.

Speaker 7 (01:09:33):
We'll be back on Monday.
