Speaker 1 (00:01):
See number one Tuck Show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain, and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
Ah, it's Friday, folks, it is Friday. Good good morning.
It's Friday the thirteenth. Though, hmmmm, we'll see how that goes.
If you're waking up this morning, it is seven oh six.
Thank you for tuning in Friday the thirteenth. Never, it's

(00:46):
never been something that I've worried about. I'm not one
of those superstitious people. And it's just another day. And
now watch something will happen today too, because I've said
it out loud.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Well, this would have been the June thirteenth. This would
have been my grandmother's birthday. And I can't remember. I
remember my dad sending me a text within the last
year or so that it like she would have been
one hundred like a couple of years ago, so she'd
be like one hundred and two three four five something
like that. I was pretty good at knowing birthdays. She
was the one I didn't know because she never She

(01:22):
never told you what her birthday was until she got
the claim, so shei's security. That was the only time
she ever told her real birthday. Really, Yeah, so now
my other grandparents, I knew there. I knew there. Of course,
I guess I was wrong because I always thought my
one grandfather was born in nineteen twelve. But everybody tells
me now it's nineteen thirteen.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
So you have a lot of thirteen's in your family lineage.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
There just a June thirteenth, There was a January fifteenth,
and of February twenty eighth.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
You said nineteen thirteen.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
I always thought it was nineteen twelve. My other grandmother
was born in nineteen fifteen.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
So are you worried about anything?

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Being like, what what else can go wrong in my life? Like,
I mean, I've already been through the ringers, so it
doesn't it like like a one day doesn't make me
nervous this what else are you gonna throw at me?
The only thing you can do is kill me. That's
the only other thing that could happen the way to

(02:26):
bring me down.

Speaker 2 (02:27):
Don't even put that out there. Yeah, you have, you
have faced some hurdles. We'll put it that way some
pretty extreme hurdles.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
Yeah, and it just seems like it just keeps rolling.
So every day is Friday the thirteenth for me.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Well, along with it being Friday the thirteenth, we're gonna
put a put a reminder out there for everybody. This
weekend's Father's Day, so do not forget about Dad. Listen.
You know, Mother's Day gets I think, gets a whole

(03:02):
heck of a lot more coverage advertising. There seems to
be a lot more thrown at us to remember Mother's
Day than to remember Father's Day. And you've got to
have both to make the kid the mom and a

(03:27):
dad to you know, for it to happen.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
So well, your dad gets the chef, but your mom's
normally always going to be a part of your life
because she's the one that bore you. Your dad could
be well, unfortunately, you know what I'm saying. I mean,
it could be you know, it could be that high
school fling, that something actually actually or high school college fling,

(03:49):
that something accidentally happened. Yeah, it could be planned, it
could be you know. You know, so dads are a
little different, and Dad's I think, look at it, Father's
Day different. Oh, absolutely, I think moms kind of expect something,
whereas dads are like, you know, we're not that worried

(04:10):
about what if, like getting and receiving things because you know,
I shared with somebody. I think around Christmas time, guys
me like me personally, get guys and dads and whatever.
They're not worried about receiving gifts. If we need something,

(04:30):
we go get it. So like if I need new underwear,
I'm going out and buying it. If I need socks,
buy it, you know. But the other thing is we
get joy. And I'm speaking for me and I'm assuming
most men. We get the joy out of our significant

(04:52):
other spouse, kids, enjoying the Christmas and opening the gifts.
That's what. That's where we get our things. So, you know,
Father's Day, it's nice to get something. Sometimes it's nice
just to just to spend time. You know, you want
you want to take me out the lunch, or you
want to just say hey, let's go not necessarily me,

(05:14):
but you know, hey let's go get a beer, or
let's do this, or let's do that. Most dads would
be perfectly fine with that. And well, and that's let's
go fishing, let's go to a ball game.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Yeah, let's do something as opposed.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
To Yeah, let's make a memory, as opposed to you
don't have to spend money on right.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
I was just thinking in general, financially, there seems to
be a lot more thrown at Mother's Day to get
somebody to go and buy a gift as opposed to
Father's you know, but that's.

Speaker 3 (05:45):
That's also the that's also the marketing machine. Yes, you know, hey,
you know flowers, Yeah, brunch, you know, make sure you
get a card, you know, make sure you make that
long distance phone call back in the day now and
nothing's long distance. But you get what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Well, and I have my gift for my dad. Chump, chump, chomp.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
He's working it.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
It's going it down in there. I've just got to
figure out how to make this work. So I know
what I'm doing. I know what it is, but I
just haven't figured out how to buy it get it
to him all the you know.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
So it's hard to ship crack again.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Oh that's nice.

Speaker 3 (06:35):
It's easy to ship. It's hard not to get cut.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
That's nice.

Speaker 3 (06:40):
I'm sorry, mister Sham.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Yeah no, not mister Sam.

Speaker 3 (06:43):
Mister Sam. Si.

Speaker 2 (06:47):
So just our friendly reminder, do not forget dad this weekend.
It is Father's Day weekend. Along with that, we have
a busy day ahead of us, so we have multiple
chances for you to win once again, and I'll get
into those here a little bit shortly, but want to
kick off this morning. Besides, Dads are questions for today

(07:10):
and these are fun, so I want interaction again. Three
zero three eighty two is our text line. Start the
message off with bloom Daddy and give us your thoughts
to these questions, and of course you can call us
one eight hundred and sixty two four eleven seventy. So
our first question in the morning is, of course, this
week we lost sly Stone and just yesterday Brian Wilson, No,

(07:36):
I'm sorry on Wednesday, Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys.
So who's a band or a performer from your lifetime,
your generation you wish you would have seen perform live?

Speaker 3 (07:49):
And let's you know, like so like if you were
like so me personally, I was born in the late sixties,
mid to late sixties, so the Beatles were popular, but
I wouldn't have gone to a con started four years old, right,
So don't like if unless unless you were a teenager
so to speak, and we're conscious enough to enjoy the show,

(08:11):
then don't count it. Like I would have loved to
have seen the Beatles, but if you're gonna ask me
that question, I'm not going to count them because they
weren't I was.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
I was.

Speaker 3 (08:20):
I wouldn't have been old enough to enjoy the show.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Well, I would have loved This is gonna sound crazy.
I would have loved to have seen Elvis, but that
wouldn't even have been possible.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
I was ten when he died, right, you know, So
it needs to be Elvis was was a possibility because
I remember seeing Elvis on tv TV in his one
of his comeback concerts or whatever, the seventy with the
seventy two three show, whatever it was, I remember it
bits and pieces. But yeah, I mean, technically I could

(08:49):
count Elvis, but I'm not going to.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
Yeah, so it needs to be somebody that falls within
the window of possibility that you would have been able
to yes to see them. We posted this last night
on our Facebook page. Let's see here. Dave says Foreigner
and Styx seeing them both they're still touring, aren't they?

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Yes and no? Yes and no, they're not the complete
Foreigner's not touring with Lee Graham and as far as
I know, and Sticks doesn't have Dennis the Young they've
kicked him out of the band.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Oh he got the boot, He got the boot. So
that is our question this morning. Who is a band
or performer from your lifetime you wish you would have
seen perform live? Because of course we lost this week's
Livestone and Brian Wilson. So that's our fun Friday question.
Of course, as I said, you can text us three
zero three eight to two leave us your comment. You

(09:44):
can comment on our Facebook page or call us one
eight hundred and six two four eleven seventy. That's what
we're doing on this Friday, and we have chances for
you to win. We're going to get into that when
we return. It is seven sixteen on this Friday the thirteenth.
You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience Otis and Sam
News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Welcome back, seven twenty one.

(10:17):
You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience, Samon Otis news
Radio eleven seventy WWVA. So yesterday I forgot to mention
this to you Otis, because you were you were gone
by the time I finish up this conversation. But yesterday
we had our text line winner for the Kirk's free
half gallon of ice cream. Okay, his name was Warren.

(10:37):
Got to talk to him for a little bit yesterday,
and he said he and his wife absolutely listened to
us every morning, loved listening to us. So I just
wanted to give a shout out to Warren and his
beautiful wife, but he did not give me her name.
So Warren and missus Warren, good morning.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
So if this is what you do every morning, Heaven
help you. If we are your entertainment, haven't helped you.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
But now he was so nice on the phone, very
self deprecating, so nice on the phone. Oh shoot, so
I mentioned we are going to have plenty to win
this morning. So okay, Otis, let me get our list here.
So what do we got going on?

Speaker 3 (11:19):
We have got so we have we have We've been
given extra a High Valley iron Man ticket for tomorrow
Tomorrow night. So they gave us ten.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Tickets, yes, an odd count.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
So we can't do three family four packs, so we're
gonna do two family four packs and a pair yes,
so like, if it's just you and your date, you
and your wife, you and your husband, you and your
significant other, that's perfect.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
So we've got family four family.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
Four date night, yep, and we are going to give
those way via the text line. So the text number is.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Three zero three eight two. Start the message with bloom daddy.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
And then your name your phone number, and then if
you want four tickets or two tickets, yes, so.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Just put a four or two so then we know
when we go and do.

Speaker 3 (12:09):
And then what we will do is we will take
all the fours and we will randomly draw two winners,
and we'll take all the twos, and we will randomly
draw one winner.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yes, yes, so you happily. That wasn't too complicated.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
So the text three zero three eight two eight two.
First word in the text bloom daddy, then your name,
your phone number, and how many tickets you want four
or two, and then we will separate those. At the
end of the show. We will pick two winners in
the four column and one winner in the two column.
And then we also have say, and we're not done,

(12:45):
We're going to be giving away Washington Wild Things vouchers
for four a family four pack that means you get
to pick whatever game you want to go to. You
take the vouchers, you cash them into the game, go
to the box office, get your tickets for that game,
and enjoy some good small ball.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Baseball, baseball football.

Speaker 3 (13:05):
And then and then we're also giving away. We're gonna
have river City River City Gift Certificate and a mccormicks
Auto Gift Certificate give certificate.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
So fill your belly and take care of your car exactly. Bundle.
We're bundling. Yeah, we got that all out and that's
all going to be.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
River City mccormicks will be by.

Speaker 4 (13:35):
Yes.

Speaker 3 (13:36):
Yes, now that we have that out of the way,
do you have an answer to our pop question and
a performer or artist, a band that you would have
liked to have seen that you know, for you? For me, yeah,
come on, no, I would have You're not a big
concert person.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
I'm not a big concert person. But Sublime with the
original singer and I I can't remember his name, but
he died. He died, Yes, I think it was an overdose, unfortunately,
But that's who comes to my mind, is Sublime. That
would be my my go to I because there are

(14:20):
tons of bands that will replace a singer, and it's
not the same as the original. I mean, it just
doesn't have the same.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Yeah lead singer. Yes, Yeah, they were, they were. They
were a what I guess they call him a ska
punk band, kind of ska it, which is kind of
like a little bit of rap, a.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
Little bit of fun like it. They were just different.
They came out kind of on the tail end of
of like the Nirvana time periode.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
But yes nineties band.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Yes, and they were unique. They had a completely different
sound and feel that anything that has been out there before.
In a way, they were just a unique California band.
And I yeah, that's one that I wish I would
have seen.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
I have two, okay, And the reason I'm putting two
is because one I could have I've could have seen.
I could have seen very easily, you know, as an adult.
The other one I would have been a teenager, so
it might have been a little tough to get your
parents' permission to go. Because there were a couple of

(15:37):
bands that I wanted to go see, like when I
was in high school, Like the Cars. I wanted to
go see the Cars when they were big in eighty four,
and I was only a junior or senior in high school.
So the band that I really would have loved to
have seen is Queen with Freddie McRee. Yeah, you know,
I was. I was a Queen fan before people were

(15:58):
Queen fans. I mean I was Queen fan in the
seventies and I thought they were very underrated for a
long time. And then the one that that I could
have seen as an adult is Prince.

Speaker 2 (16:14):
That's Princes all over our Facebook.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
Yeah yeah, I just you know, I kind of regret,
and you know that probably had a couple opportunities to
see Prince and just never really like was like eh, okay.

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Well, and in Queen back to the Queen mentioned, they
were very unique and created a whole new sound when
it comes to me, I mean they created the rock
opera basically, well.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Freddy they did create it, but they they really went
into the opera style music. And they were the first
they experimented with using their own voices and multi tracking
as the backup singers as well as like Freddie was
a backup singer as well as the lead singer. I
didn't know that, so a lot of multi tracking.

Speaker 2 (17:00):
Well that's what we're hitting on today. Our question, Who's
a band or performer from your lifetime you wish you
would have had a chance to see perform live. Go
on our Facebook page, or of course you can comment
on our text line three zero three eight. To start
the message off with bloom Daddy. It's seven twenty eight
on this Friday. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience

(17:21):
Sam and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Welcome Back,
seven thirty six The bloom Daddy Experience Otis and Sam
News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. A bit earlier, Otis I
mentioned our winner from yesterday saying that he listens to

(17:44):
us every day with his hype. Yeah Warren. So we
got a message on Facebook, a direct message that says
this is from jack and says, well, then I need
help too because I listen to you guys every day. Lol.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
Thank you Jack makes you your insurance covers therapy, mental
therapy help.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
And then Jackie sent another message on Facebook tell Otis
that the Elvis Special was not in the seventies. It
was in sixty eight.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
That was this that was the Comeback Special. There was
another one that was on in the early seventies. It
was seventy two, seventy three, seventy four.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Okay, And she said, I would choose Elvis even though
he died six months before I was born. Ha ha, Okay, Jackie,
thank you. I would have loved to have seen Elvis,
but again that was I'm not even remotely in the
timeframe that i would have had the opportunity to see him.
You were talking about Queen earlier, because our question today
if you're just tuning in, good morning if you are,

(18:44):
was with the loss of Brian Wilson this week in
sly Stone. Some of the most iconic musicians, especially writers,
who is the band or performer from your lifetime that
you would have loved to have seen but did not
have the opportunity to And you had said, Queen, did
you see the Queen movie, the the biopic?

Speaker 3 (19:04):
I did?

Speaker 2 (19:04):
What did you think?

Speaker 3 (19:06):
I thought it was pretty good. I've actually the guy
that sang the Freddie Mercury parts. I've seen him perform too,
and it's in the movie. He sounds so.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Much like I mean he now, wasn't the actor, no, no, no,
it was a voice.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Yeah. He's actually from the Pittsburgh area.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Oh okay, and he he.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Performed at a at a friend of a friend of
our show at his eightieth birthday party. He hired him out.
Oh okay, I got to think of his name here,
I'm gonna get I'm gonna google it while you talk, okay.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
And the thing that and right now, of course, queen
lead singer is Adam Lambert, which he got his start
on American Idol. And I remember seeing him and saying,
oh my, he could he could step in and be
the lead singer for Queen if they ever got back together.
And that's what he's doing now. I mean, he's not

(20:03):
Freddie Mercury. I don't think we'll ever hear another voice
like Freddie Mercury. But Adam Lambert holds his own when
it comes to stepping in those shoes.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
The gentleman. The gentleman's name is Mark Martel, Mark Martell.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
Okay, does he have his own band or anything like that?

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Well, when I saw him perform, he has the music
on a computer. He plays the keyboards, but he has
the background like the drums and the guitar and everything
on computer. And then he sings along. But I mean
it's kind of like a karaoke but not karaoke. Yeah,
And he is so close to Freddie Mercury. The reason

(20:46):
he's actually i think toured with Roger Taylor, the drummer
from Queen. He doesn't want to do the actual Queen
shows because he's not flamboyant Freddie and Adam.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Lamber not necessarily the entertainer.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Well he is, but he's also a very Christian person. Okay,
So the flamboyancy and some of the stage antics that
you could possibly see from Adam Lambert and what you
would have seen from Freddie Mercury are in his wheelhouse.

(21:25):
Let's just put it that way.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
It's not gonna like the showmanship in Marcus m arc
If you want to googlemur he's on Wikipedia. So again,
you can of course participate in this conversation call us
one eight hundred and six two for eleven seventy or
on our text line three zero three eight to two
started off with blue Daddy, or comment on our post
on Facebook like Glen did he said Prince or Bowie.

(21:48):
Prince has become one of the overwhelming choices on our
Facebook post. You said Prince also, didn't you?

Speaker 3 (21:54):
Yeah, that's that's that's probably my biggest regret.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
Prince Prince. Yeah, yeah, he was definitely one of a kind.

Speaker 3 (22:03):
And I had some friends that went to see him
and it was like, oh, yeah, I'm not Yeah, I'll
catch him the next time around. Guess what there wasn't
the next time he was.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
I mean he was witness.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Fifties or fifties. Yeah, yeah, I mean he wasn't old
by any means, but just the entertainment, just you know,
in somebody's you know, somebody. I looked at our Facebook.
Tom Petty comes up a lot, and I got to
see Tom Petty on his right after he released Full
Moon Fever, so it was technically not Tom Petty and
the Heartbreakers, even though a lot of the Heartbreakers were

(22:36):
on tour with him. But I saw him at the
AJ Plumbo Center at Dukene University, so he didn't play
the arena it was. It was an arena show, but
a small arena and very very entertaining, very entertaining. So
that would have been eighty eighty nine. I think I

(22:59):
saw him Bowie. I mean I like some of Bowie's songs.
I don't know if I really would have wanted to
have seen him in concert, just I don't, you.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Know, Well, there's a huge difference.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
Both to bo, He's grown on me as I've gotten older.
I wasn't a huge Bowie fan in my teens in
early twenties, but he's kind of grown on me.

Speaker 2 (23:20):
Wouldn't you say there's a big difference between artists who
record in the studio and you know, say they put
out a phenomenal album. But then there's also the artists
that not only put out a good album but can
put on a show.

Speaker 4 (23:38):
There.

Speaker 2 (23:39):
They don't always go hand in hand.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
Well, I know, I know this isn't everybody's wheelouse, but
you know, and I know that there's people out there
listening that have seen and know what I'm talking about.
But I mean, that's it's kind of a Springsteen thing.

Speaker 5 (23:50):
You know.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
Springsteen's like if you go back to Born in the USA,
the album I mean, which is his most commercially successful album,
and then you go to a show to see him.
I mean, anybody that place three plus hours and you're
seventy some years old. I mean, first off, that's impressive
in itself. Yeah. Second of all, you know, it's it's

(24:12):
for the most part, it's NonStop, and it's NonStop three hours,
and you get different versions of different songs sometimes so
you might get like there's a song off a Nebraska
of It's Gonna It's It's Eluding Me, which Nebraska was
kind of like a very somber album, but he takes

(24:34):
it and he jazzes it up and makes it like
this rock and roll song, but it's about like killing
and everything else, and it just you know, it's how
he does it. You know, it works, and you know
I mean, I mean I've seen a lot of concerts. Yeah,
you know, Springsteen, Mellencamp, Jimmy Buffett all, you know, all

(24:58):
multiple times that I've seen. Charlie Daniels was excellent in concert.
You know, there was there there are people that know
how to do both, and then there are people that
they can't take the album and convert it to live.
And from what I've seen, like Prince. Actually, when I

(25:20):
was home yesterday in between I was trying to get
some things on my computer fixed with our office of technology,
I had on the TV and there was a Prince
concert movie and it was more of a show than
it was a concert. I mean, it was it was
like there were people that were like acting and and
everything like there was a lot of stage, a lot

(25:41):
of music in the background, and but a lot of
a lot of movement, a lot of set, you know,
it was, it was. It was definitely interesting and and
but I mean, you know, costume change is oh my god,
there was like every every song Prince had a costume change.
But again, it's a movie, so you know.

Speaker 2 (25:59):
Almost sounds like a musical.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
You had that feel, you had that feel. I didn't
see the whole thing, like I said, I probably saw
maybe a half hour forty five minutes of it to
the cops, because I mean, like I said, I was
I was also doing other things.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
It was in the background, you were multitasking.

Speaker 3 (26:19):
We'll get that far.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
That's right, you're a man.

Speaker 3 (26:22):
But yeah, I mean I would have you know, you
look at some of clip clips from Princess concert footages
and it's just like the dude could play.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
You know.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
So yeah, I don't even it's beyond my grasped to
even imagine what it's like to have that much natural talent.
It's something I mean, I've never I've never been musical.

(26:55):
I've never I mean, it's just.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
You've never been talented.

Speaker 2 (27:00):
You've never been talented. Boy, I put that on a
silver platter for you.

Speaker 3 (27:08):
But that was too easy to pass up. I couldn't.
I couldn't let that one go. I had to really
just rear back and take a big swing.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
I've just always been envious of people that have that
that uh, that natural talent that I do.

Speaker 3 (27:23):
You know, here's the other thing. It takes. It takes
a special person to get up in front of thousands
of people and actually entertain. Yeah, yeah, and to you
like I mean, Buddy Guy said it when we interviewed him.
He said, he's eighty eight years old. He's been doing
it for how long he still gets nervous before he
goes on stage?

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Well he, I mean he's he was so self deprecating
and so just humble. Humble that's a better word.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
He wasn't he wasn't talking down on himself.

Speaker 2 (27:49):
He just was a very very yes, that's that's a
better way. He was very, very humble. And what a
great conversation that was. All Right, we're not done, We're
just getting started. Seven forty. Don't forget your chance to
win on our text line three zero three eight two
put four or two for your chance to win uh
Ironman tickets for this Saturday. So just start the message

(28:12):
off with bloom Daddy that's still going on three zero
three eight two started off with bloom Daddy again. It's
seven forty six on this Friday morning, The bloo Daddy Experience,
samon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA seven fifty two.

(28:35):
Welcome back the bloom Daddy Experience, samon Otis News Radio,
eleven seventy WWVA. Should we hit on some like important stuff,
some news you mean, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
I mean, heaven forbid.

Speaker 4 (28:52):
You know.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
I got a text message ready before we went to
the break again. It was from my college roommate and
w he was the very first student liaison between the
university and how they book musical guests at the coliseum
or you know, people that were coming on the talk circuit.

(29:13):
You know, he was a part of bringing in living
color in the Godfather's Whitney Houston that all came to
s He was a part of all those shows. He
sent me a text and he said the worst concert
that he would never that he wishes he would have
never seen is Whitney Houston. She was terrible in concert.
I was there. Her voice was phenomenal. Her voice was phenomenal,

(29:37):
her stage presence horrible, horrible, boring, or she just basically
stood there and sang for an hour and a half.
She didn't really have any stage presence until like the
encore song, which was you know, like I think it
was I Want to Dance with Somebody, and so she
actually moved at like, she didn't even move the whole time.

(30:01):
She just basically stood there for an hour and a half.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Yeah, that would get.

Speaker 3 (30:06):
It was very It was a very like I said, musically,
voice wise, talent wise, just unbelievable entertainment wise, it was.
It was. It was probably one of the worst shows
I've ever seen.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
Yeah, you could have just played the cassette and listened
to her sing.

Speaker 3 (30:24):
Cassette was the eighties. The CDs were out at that
point in time.

Speaker 2 (30:28):
Oh okay, well, you know I was thinking it.

Speaker 3 (30:31):
Was late eighties, So yeah, late eighties. SOT CDs had
been out for about three or four years.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Yes, I did say cassette, didn't I That's right. I
was just I was just assuming, you know, I guess
I shouldn't do that. But no, let's hit on a
couple of local things going on. Just a heads up, uh,
Belmont and Jefferson County residents can get rid of their
hazardous waste free of charge this weekend. It's part of
a community clean up day being hosted by the JB

(30:58):
Green Teamudents can drop off their items in Steubenville at
the JB Green Team building beginning at nine am through
one pm. This is happening, of course tomorrow explosives, smoke detectors,
and appliances will be turned away. Though. Wonder if they
would take mattresses. I had somebody say to me a

(31:20):
couple weeks ago that they have like three mattresses they
cannot get rid of. But that seems to be one
thing that people will not take. And then Trump rolls
back climate change rules climate rules, I'm sorry. Senator Shelley
Moore Capito is praising the Trump administration's decision to roll
back the Biden era climate policies targeting power plants. The

(31:43):
previous rules would have required utilities to reduce or capture
greenhouse gas emissions from coal and natural gas plants. Capito
says the regulations would have forced coal plants to retire
by twenty thirty five unless they captured ninety percent of
carbony missions, which she calls unachievable. Governor Morrissey and Congressman

(32:06):
Rithy Moore also support the rollbacks, saying it ends what
they call the war on American energy. I think the
war on American energy has been going on since I
was in diapers. That seems to be an ongoing theme.
And then this name is back in the news. Steeler
fans loved him at one point in time, but police

(32:29):
are looking to arrest the NFL former star Antonio Brown
for attempted murder. The Washington Post reported this yesterday that
Brown has a warrant for his involvement in a shooting
at a boxing event that happened last month in Miami.
Police say the thirty six year old was detained at

(32:51):
the time. Brown last played in the league for the
Buccaneers in twenty twenty one. That's when he was Tom
Brady's roommate for a while.

Speaker 3 (32:58):
Weren't they likemates, But.

Speaker 2 (33:01):
He was living with him somehow somewhere on the compound
after spending most of his twelve year career with the Steelers.
You know, he's one of those athletes that had goes
down so much talent, so much talent.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
And Jones.

Speaker 2 (33:24):
Yeah, yes, that's another good example. And I don't want
to say wasted because he did have a twelve year career.

Speaker 3 (33:31):
Az well that's.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
A whole other Yeah, he did have a twelve year career,
but outside factors, off the field antics, who knows what
else is involved, completely just ruined his credibility, ruined.

Speaker 3 (33:53):
His well, he doesn't have any morals future.

Speaker 2 (33:56):
Yeah yeah, so yeah, Antonio brand is not on the run.
I'm not saying that he has a warn out, so
hopefully he'll turn himself in. I don't know, I don't know.
And if you don't want to plan dinner this week,
here here, I've got a suggestion for you. KFC is
bringing but bringing back the seven dollars Phillip combo meals

(34:19):
for a limited time parketing, partnering with the f One
movie starring Brad pitt. So. They also introduced a new
Mountain Dew, Sweet Lightning Peaches and cream soda. That's a mouthful.
The fill up option includes tenders, fried chicken and the
famous bowls, all with sides in a drink. So if

(34:39):
you're hungry for lunch or dinner, there you go, there
you go. Let's do we haven't talked about this marry much,
but let's do it. Twenty five dollars gift certificate to
River City along with a gift certificate to McCormick's auto.

Speaker 3 (34:55):
I think it's twenty five bucks too.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
I think it's twenty five dollars also down in Glendale,
so will fill you up with food and take care
of your car. One eight hundred sixty two four eleven
seventy caller number ten. Caller number ten one eight hundred
sixty two four eleven seventy for your chance to win
seven fifty eight on your Friday morning Bloomdaddy Experience samon

(35:16):
Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
Z number one talk show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy, his
goal inform, entertain and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.

Speaker 2 (35:43):
We are back. It's eight oh six on this Friday morning.
Thank you for tuning in the bloo Daddy Experience. Salmon
Otis News Radio, eleven seventy WWVA. If you are just
tuning in or you're just waking up, just getting into
your car, just a heads up. Today is Friday, the thirteenth,
and that terrifies millions of people across the country. Don't

(36:06):
let it, it's just another day. Some people won't go
to work, some won't eat in restaurants, and many would
never plan their wedding on Friday the thirteenth. No one
is exactly sure where the legend actually comes from. The
researchers feel the superstition is very old folklore. Experts say

(36:27):
it's the combination of Friday and thirteen, as both the
day and the number have historically been connected to bad luck.

Speaker 3 (36:36):
So it also goes back, I think to the crucifixion
that allegedly Christ was crucified on Friday the thirteenth day.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Really, I've never heard that before for some reason, I
don't know. A second I want to say it had
something to do with the Salem witch trials, but.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
I mean, there's so many different There's so many o
the Knights Templar.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
It goes to the Knights Templar, the day that.

Speaker 3 (37:03):
They were all turned in rated out.

Speaker 2 (37:06):
Slaughtered by the French king.

Speaker 3 (37:10):
Yeah, you know, there's like I said, there are so many,
there's so many that. But allegedly one of one of
the things that that is tied is that the allegedly
the crucifixion occurred on the Friday the thirteenth.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
Okay, that's a new one. Like I said, I'm not
I've always heard the Knight's templar thing. I've not heard
that before.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
But don't let it stop you listen, folks, just another day.

Speaker 2 (37:36):
It's just another day. It's just another day, just a reminder.
This weekend's Father's Day. Don't forget about Dan. Don't forget
about Dan. Make sure you go and you know, get
him something nice, take him, take him golfing.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
Don't buy him a tie.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
No, don't buy him a tie. Don't buy him socks.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Don't buy him buying something that he's already going to
go get himself. Yes, yes, because guys for the most part,
will go take care of themselves. And it's not like
it's nothing fancy. It just has to you know. It's like, hey, guess.

Speaker 2 (38:06):
What, I have an idea. Go ahead, all right, dads
will like this. So I want to let everybody know.
Happening today is the grand opening for the new Kirk's
Homemade ice Cream location in Shady Side. Okay, so that
is happening today, like you said, just in time for
the Loop Festival happening, so that makes me laugh. Go

(38:28):
over and check out the new second location for Kirks
in Shady Side and there you go. Get Dad a
half gallon of ice cream and.

Speaker 3 (38:37):
Take him to the High Valley Ironman football games.

Speaker 2 (38:39):
There you go, Here you go, and you can win
tickets from us. Sure you can there and they even
save yourself a few bucks.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
Yep, you can win a We are giving away two
family four packs and a pack a pair a pair,
so you can register to win. We will draw at
the end of the show two chances to win a
family four one to win pair text three zero three
eight two. There you go, first word bloom Daddy, your name,
your phone number, and whether you want four tickets or

(39:09):
whether you want two tickets. And we will have two
separate drawings depending on how many you know with all
the people that we have there, and we will email
you the tickets after the show.

Speaker 2 (39:18):
Again, that is on our Facebook page three zero three
eight two.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
It's our text line, not our Facebook page.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
Oh my god. Yes, our text line three zero three
eight two started off with bloom Daddy, name, phone number,
and four or a pair.

Speaker 3 (39:31):
So we've got somebody coming in here. In a little bit.
That's gonna that can answer our poll question very easily
because we have Howard from West Banco Arena and the
Capitol Theater coming in.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Yes, because there's a little bit of music that's been
going on at both arenas. Yeah, if you haven't noticed,
and if you haven't, then you're you're living in the dark, because.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
Yeah, coming up this month Steve Girl, The Indigo Girls
and George Thirdgood.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
Say buddy guy, but that's July three.

Speaker 3 (39:58):
Those are the three that I can think of up
the top of my head.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Yeah, but that takes us back to our question today,
which is in light of the of losing Brian Wilson
this week along with sly Stone, who is an artist
that you wish you would have gone to see live
in concerts in your wheelhouse in your time period that
you didn't get a chance to Jack on Facebook said

(40:22):
Dimebag and Vinnie Paul the original Pantera. Now that's from
my generation. Yeah, I mean very not that I was
a Pantera listener.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
Very heavy metal, not not my wheelhouse. Dan Fogelberg, Yeah,
early early eighties, very very mellow. Okay, Melosh had a
lot of hits in your early adies I believe died
from either an aneurism or cancer. I can't remember which,

(40:55):
but died way too young. Had a hit called Leader
of the Band and it was his dad who was
a high school band director, and then had some other
hits there as well. But you know, like that's the
and I appreciate the person that said that they would
like to see, but I just imagine going to Dan
Fogelberg concert and falling asleep, just I mean, because the

(41:18):
music's so mellow.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
Yeah, not that it's bad, it's.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
No, no, it's it's actually great. It's music, but it's
just like you'd be there after like four songs, you'll
be going at least I would.

Speaker 2 (41:30):
It's zen.

Speaker 3 (41:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
Yeah. And of course guess who's jumped in with a
YouTube video.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
Eugene.

Speaker 2 (41:37):
Eugene. Eugene sent us a video and he says, I
got to He said, I got to see Jimmy Hendrix. Nice, nice, wow,
but never.

Speaker 3 (41:47):
Got Eugene's old no offense, Eugene.

Speaker 2 (41:51):
Yeah, say sorry, Eugene, but never got to see Jeff Beck. Okay,
so he sent us a video of Jeff Beck and
I was watching it during the break.

Speaker 3 (42:01):
Wow, amazing guitarist.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
It was like the song that he's playing, I recognize it,
and I can't what it is. I'll show it to
you during the break.

Speaker 3 (42:09):
People get ready.

Speaker 2 (42:12):
It's almost like the guitar is singing the song. You
can almost hear the words guitarist.

Speaker 3 (42:18):
Yeah. Absolutely. You know, again, I don't have a whole
lot of Jeff Beck music in my in my.

Speaker 4 (42:27):
Catalog.

Speaker 3 (42:28):
Yeah, and but I mean I definitely respect. Yeah, that's
a challenge.

Speaker 2 (42:33):
Yeah, that's not a familiar name to me.

Speaker 3 (42:34):
But he's older. Yeah, I mean he played with he
played like with Rod Stewart played with. I mean, he's
he's in that wheel, he's in that age group. So
he like he's the same age as like the Stones
and anybody that would have been at Woodstock, you know,
like like six, late sixties, early seven. Okay, but yeah,
he's that's that's that's his time frame. But I mean played,

(42:55):
I mean, I've seen him on specials, I've seen him
at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you know,
on you know, concerts whatever. It's totally amazing.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
Yeah, just listening into the first minute and a half
that I did of this video, I've never heard of
guitar sound like that before. It's incredibly different. Eugene would
love to hear what it was like to see Jimmy
Hendricks in concert. My goodness.

Speaker 3 (43:19):
You know, it plays constantly on here and it's that
recap of like the summer of sixty seven or sixty eight,
sixty now, whatever it is. And they talk about Jimmy
Hendricks opening for the Monkeys, Like, I'm thinking to myself,
who opens for a fictional band? You know, you have
Jimmy Hendrix, who's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,

(43:40):
and then you have the Monkeys that were thrown together.
And most of them weren't even musicians, you know. Now,
Michael Nesmith was a musician and played and released some
music and produced and everything else. Mickey Dolan's taught himself
how to do things. Davy Jones was actually a singer.
But after that, I mean, they weren't a real band,

(44:02):
so to speak. Right, They eventually became a real band,
but they were thrown together, thrown together as a comedic
twist to.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
The Beatles, and for the TV show.

Speaker 3 (44:14):
Well that's what it was.

Speaker 4 (44:15):
It was.

Speaker 3 (44:16):
It was a play, you know, it was you know,
it was a very cartoonish TV show, didn't they have a.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Song about gene.

Speaker 4 (44:23):
Uh yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (44:24):
My mom always thought that they were singing it to
her when she was a kid.

Speaker 3 (44:28):
And now you put me on the spot and I
had it right there in my head and then all
of a sudden it just popped.

Speaker 2 (44:36):
Yeah, that's it. Yeah, she always thought that was that
was Davy was singing to her. Sorry, mom, oh, but
that's what we're doing today. We're having some fun with music. Music,
and of course plenty of things that we are giving away.
Or your chance to win. Three zero three eight two
is our text line for your chance to win a
four pack or a pair of tickets to see the Ironman.

(45:00):
This sat well tomorrow, the Saturday tomorrow. But just tell
us what do you want. You're looking for the four
pack or the pair. Three zero three eight two is
our text line. Number started off with bloom Daddy name
phone number and then a four or a two. It
is eight point fifteen. What else did I forget? Otis?
Did I forget anything else?

Speaker 4 (45:21):
That's right?

Speaker 2 (45:21):
We do have that coming up here a little bit literally, Yeah,
shortly you're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience. Salmon Otis
News Radio eleven seventy w W VA eight twenty one.
Welcome back to the bloom Daddy Experience, Salmon Otis News

(45:42):
Radio eleven seventy WWVA. We've been talking music all show long, Otis.
We got a message on Facebook from Drew. It says
the Monkeys, because you were just talking about the Monkeys,
of course, the only band to have four number one
albums in one calendar year. A little bit trivia for you.

Speaker 3 (46:00):
I believe it. I believe it really. You know, it's
funny because like I said, they were they were thrown
together for a TV show and not really musicians.

Speaker 2 (46:08):
So yeah, but you get those girls watching the boys,
boy bands, they'll they'll pay for they'll they'll pay for
the albums. And perfect timing because joining us in studio
now we have Howard Carnell with as Otis mentioned the
Capitol Theater, West Banco Arena, the entertainment venues that have
taken over downtown Wheeling.

Speaker 4 (46:29):
We like to hear that.

Speaker 2 (46:30):
Yeah, so perfect timing talking about music today.

Speaker 4 (46:33):
So I don't think we're going to be able to
get the Monkeys on the schedule, No, no.

Speaker 3 (46:37):
But you did have Mickey Dolan's ago, yep, for sure.

Speaker 4 (46:40):
So that's right.

Speaker 2 (46:42):
Yeah, So we're gonna throw our question at you. This
is what we've been having fun with today. So of
course you know this week we lost Brian Wilson and
sly Stone. So our question that we've post today is
what is an artist or a band that from your
generation that you regret not getting the opportunity to go

(47:03):
see before they lost somebody?

Speaker 4 (47:06):
This is well, can lost somebody mean they broke up? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (47:12):
I mean so in other words, it has to be
in your wheelhouse. So like before, like you and I
are both were alive during the Beatles, but we would
have we probably wouldn't have been able to enjoy it
at our age.

Speaker 4 (47:24):
I'm gonna go excuse me. I've seen one of the members,
but I am a huge Grand Funk Railroad fan, and
you know they've broken up. But I saw Mark Farner
here at the Capitol and he was fantastic. But I've
always wanted to see them get back together and make one.

(47:45):
We're an American band tour so that I could see
them all together. It's never gonna happen. It's unbelievable, this
story behind it. It's never gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (47:55):
If you'd have told me, somebody would have said Grand
Front Railroad. Today, I would have told you you're out
of your mind. No, no, you know, I've grew up.

Speaker 4 (48:01):
My brother was older. I've grew up listening to one
side of Closer to Home every night that I fell asleep,
and I just became a big Grand Funk Railroad fan. Now,
the band that the experience that made me a rock
and roll guy happened right here. My brother in law's
sister brought a friend of mine, George Stanley, and I

(48:22):
to a concert here when I was in eighth grade
and it was the Motors UFO and ac DC, and
I got to see bon Scott. Bond Scott was still
alive and was the singer, and it was right here
and it was amazing. And from that day on, I've
been a rock and roll guy. So ac DC I

(48:43):
got to see and I get to see them with
Bond Scott.

Speaker 2 (48:46):
Well, and that's one thing going back to the Capitol.
You said you got to see them here. Now that
there has been what has been accomplished through the Capitol
Theater and new management and these new shows that are
being brought in, are you hearing story from people saying,
you know, back when I was in high school, I
got to see this artist, or do you know such

(49:06):
and such was on the Capitol stage? Are you hearing
tons of those stories?

Speaker 4 (49:09):
Yeah? We do. And it's nice to talk to some
people that I even know when they're here at a
show and say I remember this, and I remember that.
And one of my goals moving forward is to start
a section on our web page and start writing articles
about people's experiences of when they came. And I believe
Seeger was here at one time, didn't get to see it.

(49:33):
I wish I had. I want to talk to somebody
that was for that. I want to talk to somebody
when Blue Oyster Colt was here and so on and
so forth and sort of tell that historical story of
who they saw and what rock bands and whatnot. And
what really sort of started my idea about that was
Sam was Kansas coming Back, and I was like, Wow,

(49:55):
you know, that's a historical band that we grew up with,
and there's gotta be some history with that specific to
the Ohio Valley and Wheeling and maybe even the Capitol
that I'd like to dig into. And yeah, you know,
everybody wants to relive their youth to a degree, and
you know, I got to see twenty one to twelve

(50:15):
tour for Rush here, and those kinds of things that
just last in your memory. Even when you can't remember
what you have for lunch yesterday, you remember those concerts, right.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
And think about who's coming up in July, I mean,
and Otis and I. We got the opportunity to speak
to this living legend, even though he didn't want to
be referred to that way. Buddy guy.

Speaker 4 (50:37):
Hey, by the way, great interview and when he said
his wife told him it's me or the guitar, I
started laughing so hard and we were all, you know,
I'm sure everybody list. It was like, well, we sort
of glad you chose the guitar.

Speaker 3 (50:51):
We know which twenty picked.

Speaker 4 (50:53):
Yeahs and I bet she would even say right choice.
But yeah, that's a great That was a great interview.
Great to hear him, even at that age to be
that sharp and then to be that sharp with a guitar.

Speaker 3 (51:07):
Well, just to let you know, make sure we get
backstage passes because he invited us to do the shot
of cognact with him before the show.

Speaker 4 (51:13):
Wow, there you go. I didn't catch that part, but
we'll make sure we have.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
That he passes, we just need to be able to
get down backstage with him so we can actually enjoy
the shot with him.

Speaker 4 (51:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (51:24):
I think we know some Yeah.

Speaker 3 (51:26):
I mean I listen, I've been in this building long enough,
I know a lot of ins and outs.

Speaker 4 (51:30):
There you go. Yeah, I thought that was great and
it's exciting. We've talked in the past about it, the
diversity that we're trying to bring in, and hopefully everybody
around the area says, yeah, they've got something on the
schedule for me.

Speaker 2 (51:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (51:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (51:44):
And Kelly Tucker, our executive director, is doing a great
job of trying to branch out come up with some
different ideas. One of the things is obviously national shows,
but we're trying to sort of weave in some local
flavor to it. When Terry Clark was here, we had

(52:05):
Carly Greer here with her band, and they're also she's
on the schedule to come in with Crandall Creek in
September before Steep Canyon Rangers. Anything that we can do
either here at the Capitol or down at the arena
to start the weave in some local talent, local events,

(52:26):
we want to try to do that too, because you
want to know something. There's amazing talent even here well
and in.

Speaker 2 (52:34):
The first Fridays has kicked off too, But we're going
to get into that. What is on tap for the
rest of junon into July, and then I want to
hear about gwar and Static X Absolutely, I want to
hear about that, because just the pictures alone we're fascinating.
But before we get to that, we're going to do
chance to win family four pack of the Washington Wild Things.

Speaker 3 (52:56):
They are vouchers. You cash them in for any game
you want to.

Speaker 2 (52:58):
Go to six T eleven seventy one eight hundred sixty
two four eleven seventy caller number thirteen. Since it's Friday
the thirteenth, There you go one eight hundred sixty two
four eleven seventy it's a twenty eight. You're listening to
The bloom Daddy Experience salmon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.

(53:25):
Welcome back, It's eight thirty six The Bloomdaddy Experienced, salmon
Otis News Radio, eleven seventy WWVA. We're talking events here
in the High Valley and we're talking to Howard Cornell,
of course, with the West Bank Arena and the Capitol
Theater and you think of the two the two venues,
you think indoors. But you guys have gotten involved in
the outdoor game because you've already had the first First

(53:48):
Fridays in June.

Speaker 3 (53:50):
So how did that?

Speaker 2 (53:50):
How was the turnout? Because that was I don't want
to say it was last minute, but last time you
visited us, you were still in the planning stages and
getting everything worked out. So how was the turnout?

Speaker 4 (53:59):
It was fan fantastic. You know, we were walking on
eggshells all day. What was the weather going to do
for us? Was it going to go around here? Yeah?
And now we have a canopy tent there to keep
people out, but it's not big enough to cover everybody, right,
and we didn't know if we were going to have
to move in very Fortunately the weather held off. We
had two bands, New Aged Dinas and Bucket of Puppies,

(54:23):
and we had a great turnout. The thing that I noticed,
Sam that was very interesting was the diversity in the
groups that came. There were several people there who were
my youngest son's age twenty one, twenty three, kids just
out of college came down. You know, there were middle
age adults with their families and kids running around down

(54:46):
on a splash pad, and then there were older adults
that I know I've seen before at Center Market when
they had first Fridays. So it was really great and
the turnout was was more than we expected. Actually, we're
really pleased with it.

Speaker 2 (55:00):
And the next one's coming up.

Speaker 4 (55:01):
It falls on the fourth ofly it is, it falls
on the fourth of July, and so instead of duplicating
programming with what the Symphony has going on at the
river front, we're going to run a DJ just from
four to eight, and we're going to have a lot
of things available for families with young children, you know,

(55:21):
be kid based events and stuff that people can do
in preparation for the next band that comes on at
eight o'clock, which is the Wheeling Symphony out there, and
you'll be able to hear them flow in and then
fireworks afterwards. But we'll be open the whole time, you know,
our bars will be open and there are symphonies bringing

(55:43):
in food trucks along the street. So it's just really
a goal to make the arena and all that water
front just the magnet that brings everybody into town for events.

Speaker 2 (55:54):
Well, and into town last week of course we had
Static X in a for sure. If you have not
seen the pictures that are circulating on social media, check
them out, because sitting here in the Capitol Theater, it
was quite interesting to see some of the gentlemen climbing

(56:16):
onto the marquee walking around in the I don't want
to say caution, yeah the look I mean it was
it was insane. How was that show?

Speaker 4 (56:27):
It was great? Now I worked the first two and
then I left. But the people who were here working
Gar and Static X said the show went went great.
I was here for sound check and they both sounded
fantastic acoustically. This is a great venue for anybody, but

(56:49):
it was it went over well.

Speaker 5 (56:51):
Uh.

Speaker 4 (56:52):
The bands coming in knew it was sort of a
reduced theatrical part of their show because of the nature
of the history of the theater. We couldn't let them
go full out and do everything. But afterwards, in speaking
to some of the people associated with the band, some
of our staff heard the great feedback again from the facility,

(57:16):
the way to get in, set up, the acoustics that
went with it. So most importantly, the band was one
hundred percent The bands were one hundred percent pleased with
the event and the turnout was good. I mean that
that was great to have again a different genre than
what we're used to.

Speaker 2 (57:35):
That's exactly what's going to point out. It goes back
to what you were saying earlier that you know, the
plant everybody that works to bring in these different acts.
There's such a variation. I mean coming up, Okay, let's
go from Guar and Static X. I mean coming up
in June. Next week we have We're along the same lines,
same listeners. The Indigo Girls.

Speaker 4 (57:55):
Indigo Girls is here on the twenty fourth.

Speaker 3 (57:57):
I don't think the people that went to Static Exit
are not coming to the India right now. There might
be like two.

Speaker 4 (58:04):
People right and before that next Tuesday, the summer time, right,
we've got it. Steve Earl, Yeah, so more of a classic.
This is acoustic. He's going to be He's known as
a million different things, actor, producer, songwriter, et cetera. He's
going to be acoustic, and he's going to play some
songs and tell some stories. If you get a chance,

(58:28):
just learn a little bit more about Steve Earl. That
I've been impressed with. All anybody ever knows is I said,
I can tell you two words and then you'll know
who Steve earl Is Copperhead wrote and they all shake
their head and they know him. But when I saw
him in my favorite show, The Wire, I started to
sort of research his music a little bit more and

(58:49):
get to know him a little bit more. And he's
an amazing guy. I got to talk to him for
a little while last week and I'm really impressed. So
the storytelling part of the show I'm looking forward to,
and one of the things I hope he talks about
was he was involved in the production of a documentary
play called Coal Country. It's based on the twenty ten

(59:14):
disaster of the Upper Big Branch mining disaster here in
Ralegh County in West Virginia. He was not only in it,
but he wrote the score and the music for that show.
So the guy is he was born in Virginia but
raised in Texas, but a big historian, especially about the

(59:35):
coal industry. He taught me a ton of stuff I
didn't know.

Speaker 2 (59:38):
This is definitely the stage to tell that.

Speaker 4 (59:40):
Right, Yeah, no question. So he's there. Then Indigo Girls,
as you had mentioned, doing real well on tickets there,
and then the twenty eighth on Saturday is George Thoroughgood
and the Destroyers coming to Wheeling out the old Delaware
Destroyers group, and so we're going to have him as well.
So again, sort of diversity for you, right, if you're

(01:00:03):
more of that country rock hillbilly, I don't want to
call it hill billy.

Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
Steve Earl does a great I don't want to say
it's a cover version because it's a classic Irish song,
but he does a great version of Galway Girl.

Speaker 4 (01:00:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
So I mean, you know, because you normally only hear
that around Saint Patrick's Day, but if you listen to it,
it becomes a non Saint Patrick's Day song, becomes like
a regular song.

Speaker 4 (01:00:28):
One of the beauties he said, is the songs you
want to hear he's gonna play. He never understands why
bands come in and don't play the songs that people
want to hear, and he is sure you want to
hear those big hits that Steve Earl had, He's gonna play.

Speaker 3 (01:00:44):
It's like I was telling Sam the last couple of
times that I've seen John Mellencamp, he hates the dude,
Jack and Diane, and that's like his song to put
him on the map, right, He hates. He doesn't he
doesn't understand it because he said in the past, I
write a song, I sing the song, and I'm done.
That's what he says. But that's a weird maybe. But again,

(01:01:05):
we talk about artists and like how they think. They
don't think like we do well, And here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (01:01:10):
They do it over and over and over repetitively. But
this can be your only chance that that customer gets
to see you, right. Yeah, it sort of makes sense
when you think about it. Is they get sick of
it to the point where I asked Steve Earle, what's
your relationship with Copperhead Road, thinking, you know, are you

(01:01:32):
sick of it? Do you love it? That kind of thing,
And it was very interesting for him to say, no,
I'm fine with it. I appreciated and the background of
the story is what made it so special to him
on how he wrote it. So it's neat and uh,
you know, then you roll into July, we got more
diversity before Buddy Guy gets in. We have Little riverband

(01:01:55):
that a lot of people will know that they're rolling
through on their fiftieth anniversary, and then at that end
of that same week, ab a tribute band, so everybody
wants to come in and sing some Abba songs.

Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
Come on, yeah, what is that, Mama Mia? Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:02:11):
Yeah, Arrival from Sweden's the name of the band, and
we're gonna get otus up there. He doesn't want to
meet Buddy guy. He wants to go out and sing ABBI.

Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
I know somebody who is a die hard Abba fan, Dave.
If you're listening there, you go, yeah, come down, Yeah, Yeah,
that's happening July nineteenth. But then the kids are getting
involved too in July because you've got Kids Bop coming
up at the end of the month.

Speaker 4 (01:02:33):
Yeah. Take a look at our programming also for that
young family. You know, I mentioned them for July fourth
down at the Arena. Trying to have good, affordable young
family events as well. Take a look at our schedule.
Kids Bop, Cocoa Melon's coming up in October, and you
know they're Blippy is on the schedule in November. And

(01:02:55):
just trying to make it diverse where you don't say, well,
I can't go because I'd have to get a sitter
on a Tuesday night and I don't want to do that.
We're trying to get some things where people can come
in and bring the whole family.

Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
Well and be interactive to otis and I are going
to be talking to Teresa Capudo here coming up, so
you know that's going to be coming up later this
month on our show. And it's a stage show. If
you don't know the Long Island medium, I don't know
where you've been. So we're going to be talking to
her too, because she's coming up in August August tenth.

Speaker 4 (01:03:25):
Yeah, it's exciting. And that's a Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:03:29):
The other thing that Kelly does a great job is
looking at different times, what works differently. Does a Sunday
in the afternoon work. It looks like it's going to
work very well for her. The week before we have
in this moment coming back. They were at the arena
with Ice nine Kills about eighteen months ago, but in
this moment is trying a thirty day theater tour to

(01:03:51):
see if they're a theater act as much as they
are an arena act.

Speaker 2 (01:03:54):
So there is something for everybody. If you didn't pick
up on that message or thank you.

Speaker 4 (01:04:00):
Once again, thanks so as always for having me. I
appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (01:04:03):
Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (01:04:03):
Play some grand funk codeer.

Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
I would love to we can't.

Speaker 2 (01:04:07):
It's a forty six on this Friday. You're listening to
The Bloomdaddy Experience salmon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA
fifty two. Welcome back the bloom Daddy Experience, salmon Otis
News Radio, eleven seventy WWVA. Just got a text it's

(01:04:30):
starting to rain.

Speaker 3 (01:04:32):
Oh my top's off.

Speaker 2 (01:04:33):
Yes, your jeep top. Clarify, Yeah, what top we're referring to?

Speaker 3 (01:04:38):
It doesn't matter either, work speaking of somebody that probably
has their top off.

Speaker 6 (01:04:44):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (01:04:45):
Hey, Kevin Cook from Straw Automotive joins us.

Speaker 6 (01:04:49):
Trying to get this mental image out of you and
me both.

Speaker 3 (01:04:53):
All right, so you got a question for you to
take our pop question. It's got to be in your wheelhouse.
In other words, like probably from the time, say you're
maybe like eight to ten years old. Start time. Somebody
that's no longer with us musically, whether it's a band
or performer, who would you have liked to have seen
that you never got to see.

Speaker 6 (01:05:14):
It's no longer with us. It would be older than
that for me. Stevie Raymond.

Speaker 3 (01:05:20):
Okay, well that's your wheelhouse. Yeah, I mean no, no,
I mean like starting like your earliest starting age would
have been eight or ten years old.

Speaker 6 (01:05:30):
Yeah, yeah, Stevie Raymond without it out, Okay, nice miss
missed that one. Yep, yeah, that was a heartbreaker.

Speaker 3 (01:05:38):
A lot of a lot of our a lot of
our listeners have said, Tom Petty, Prince, David Bowie, you know,
so you know, I mean, I mean everybody's pretty much
mentioned the legends. We had a Grand Funk Railroad as well. Ah,
because they're no longer together. Nobody's really passed away, but
they've they've broken up. Yeah, I mean, I think everybody
would have liked to have seen the Beatles, but like

(01:06:00):
I would have been like four or five.

Speaker 6 (01:06:03):
D you know, broke it up. You know, Achoid's still there.

Speaker 4 (01:06:06):
But yeah, yeah, well yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:06:07):
I would like to see them. That would have been fun.

Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
It would have been entertaining to see the least.

Speaker 5 (01:06:14):
Kid.

Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
That's the one song I know by them, one line.

Speaker 6 (01:06:18):
That's a great album.

Speaker 3 (01:06:19):
So what's going on in Straw Automotive?

Speaker 4 (01:06:22):
All right?

Speaker 6 (01:06:22):
Man, we've got you know, we've got to like going
on right now. Uh. It hasn't quite started raining up
here yet, but it is gonna be a little damp
this weekend, so uh, come on, out, come on, come
on up here. I mean, you're not gonna be able
to work in the yard, okay, so you might as
well come up here and check out what we've got
going on at all seven of the Stripe locations, especially

(01:06:44):
right now with Hyundai. Honey, it's got some outstanding deals
going on. Right now. You can get behind the wheel
of a Hundai for as little as one hundred and
ninety nine dollars a month, and those are payments from
years ago. I can't believe we can get there right,
absolutely crazy. What's going on Honday is believe it or not.

(01:07:05):
People just you know, really don't give Hyundai sometimes the
credit it deserves. It probably has the best technology right
now of any of the vehicles on the market.

Speaker 4 (01:07:17):
All right.

Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
You see him out on the road all over there.

Speaker 6 (01:07:19):
Oh man, we saw a ton of them. Matter of fact,
my daughter just got one and it's just absolutely overwhelmed
with all of the cool things.

Speaker 2 (01:07:29):
That it does. All right.

Speaker 6 (01:07:30):
She's got a new least a new Santa Fe. I
think she's got to payment like three forty nine a
month for like a forty five thousand dollars vehicle and
just absolutely loves it. Okay, incredible styling. The Palisade is
another beautiful vehicle. I know you've seen them on the
road and go, Ben, what is that? But the Hondai Palisades,

(01:07:54):
It's got the You know, they've got the best warranty
in the business. They've got a five year sixty thousand
mile bumper to bumper warranty. They've got a ten year
one hundred thousand miles power train, and then the straw
Automotive Group on top of all that backsit w with
ever drive. We will stand behind these fun days literally forever,
as long as you own the vehicle. So well, going today,
check it out and see what Hyundai's got going on,

(01:08:16):
and then just come up here this weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:08:18):
All right, hey, all right, so yes, happy Father's Day.

Speaker 6 (01:08:22):
Thank you. I appreciate that same to you.

Speaker 3 (01:08:24):
Thanks Maddy.

Speaker 6 (01:08:26):
Right man, all right, hey weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
You do the same, he can't You can be nice?

Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
Oh once in a while, Like I tell people, don't
spread the word. I have a reputation that point.

Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
Well you mentioned it. Father's Day is Sunday under the
man who is totally worth worthy of wearing a T
shirt and blazoned with World's Greatest Dad. But be warned
if he runs into another dad with the same shirt,
they may have to settle it amongst themselves.

Speaker 5 (01:08:55):
This station presents real American douchebag.

Speaker 2 (01:09:00):
American douche bags.

Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
Today, we salute you, mister world's greatest dad T shirt.

Speaker 2 (01:09:07):
Wearer's greatest tad T shirt wearer.

Speaker 5 (01:09:10):
On Father's Day, your kids give you a shirt that
you proudly put on, proclaiming your prowess at papa hood.
But then you see your neighbors sporting the same thing.
Oh you, candy, old, well, looks like we're all headed
for a dad off.

Speaker 2 (01:09:28):
My dad is stronger than your dad.

Speaker 5 (01:09:31):
So the next time you see two middle aged men
settling this dispute mono a mono, be sure to give
respect and a wide birth to the undisputed victor, Mister
World's greatest dad T shirt wearer, a real American douchebag.

Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
World's greatest tad T shirt.

Speaker 4 (01:09:50):
