Z number one touch show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy.
Speaker 2 (00:17):
WWVA starts now.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
The bloom Daddy Experience.
Speaker 4 (00:22):
It's seven oh six on news Radio eleven seventy.
Speaker 5 (00:25):
It's a Friday, Baby.
Speaker 4 (00:26):
Good Friday morning to you, and thanks so much for
tuning in to the bloom Daddy Experience. Gonna kick off
this Friday with some good news pertaining to the Ohio
Valley Mall. And this is something that I've been talking
about for quite some time, and I know Sam and
Otis have too, But some big additions are coming to
the mall. Academy Sports and Outdoors and Burlington Coat Factory
are going to be in the former Seers store. Boot
(00:49):
Barn is going to be in part of the former
Macy space. And I know there's more stores coming into.
Speaker 5 (00:56):
The Macy space.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
I just don't know how many in who they are
are other than boot Barn. So Academy Sports and Outdoors,
Burlington Coat Factory, and Bootbarn coming to the Ohio Valley
Mall they're saying probably late twenty twenty six. If you
don't know anything about Academy Sports and Outdoors, it's really cool.
I mean think I don't know mini Cabela's full lot
(01:19):
of sporting goods, outdoor retailers. They've got about three hundred
stores across twenty one states. We're talking hunting, fishing, camping equipment, gear,
sports and leisure products, footwear, apparel. It's gonna be about
fifty six thousand square feet. And this is something really
needed at the mall. I mean, you got to go
all the way up to Cabella's if you don't want
(01:40):
to drive all the way up to the Highlands. Now
you're gonna have Academy Sports and Outdoors to get all
your recreational items in sporting items and things like that,
in addition to Dunhams. And I think Dunhams is a
very very good store at the Ohio Valley Mall. So
Academy Sports and Outdoors going to go into part of
the Old Seers space and then Burlington Coat Factory. You're
(02:01):
talking about a fortune five hundred company, about fifteen hundred stores.
I looked up at the end of the second quarter
of fiscal twenty twenty five and forty six states. So
women's apparel, men's wear, youth apparel, baby beauty, footwear, accessories.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
Home, toys, gifts, coats.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
I mean, the list goes on and on and on
and again. Should be ready to go by late April.
So Burlington Coat Factory and Academy Sports and Outdoors going
into the old series location. Boot Barn, Ladies, I have
a feeling you're gonna love this. Gonna open its doors
later in twenty twenty six to two, gonna be about
(02:40):
thirteen thousand square feet of what used to be Macy's.
Now they're one of the largest western and workwear retailers
in the nation. Cowboy Boots, work boots, westernwaar, workwear, Western
inspired fashion, outdoor gear, and like I said, per My,
(03:00):
that Macy's space is.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
Really going to be utilized.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
So the Boot Barn's going in, but I can guarantee
you there's gonna be some more announcements I don't know
how soon of more stores going into that macy space.
It's fantastic news for the Ohio Valley Mall because we've
needed some new tenants. These are big name tenants and
(03:26):
when you can get people like Burlington Cote Factory or
Academy Sports and Outdoors in your facility. That opens the
door for others to kind of follow suit. And I
will always have a special place in my heart for
the Ohio Valley Mall. I remember when it opened. I
think I was nine years old and.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
It was everything.
Speaker 4 (03:45):
I mean, that's where you went. Obviously, the new cinema
coming in. So there's a lot of things moving and
shaking at the Ohio Valley Mall. Sam otis your thoughts
on Academy Sports and Outdoors Burlington and Sam, I know
you're gonna love the Boot Barn.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yes, I am quite excited. This is a huge announcement. Well,
we got late yesterday. This is it's exciting. You know,
a lot of times we always hear the negative about
just things in general. We always hear the negative. So
when we get positive news like this, it's very exciting.
(04:25):
And we are going to have Candy Noble Great House
on with us later in the show to discuss these
new tenants, what they are like, how it's gonna freshen
up the landscape of the mall, what they carry. Speaking
with her last night, she has visited a couple of
these so maybe get a little inside look on what
(04:47):
we can expects as shoppers. So we're gonna talk about
that a little bit later with Candy Candy in the house,
so we'll dig into that more. But yeah, I'm excited.
I'm incredibly excited for this. You know, Otis Bloom. Daddy
mentioned he remembers when it opened. I believe nineteen seventy eight,
is that correct? Do you remember? I think it was
nineteen It was the year somewhere in that area. It
(05:08):
was the year I was born. So it's been a
foothold in this valley for years. And here's the one thing.
You know, there's a lot of criticism out there, and
and and the mall has faced a lot of criticism,
but this is proof that they're not just sitting there.
You know, they're constantly digging, having conversations, looking to bring
(05:34):
new retailers here to the High Valley Mall. And this,
as I said, this is this is proof of it.
So yeah, I'm very excited, very excited about it.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
It wasn't there Burlington cook Factory at them all at
one time?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
There was yes, okay, yes, and that's and that's I
remember that.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
And I was like, that's the only one I'm kind
of familiar with.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
And that's one thing I'm going to talk to Candy about.
You know, we're going to talk about that because they
have of you know, correct me if I'm wrong. They
have sort of rebranded themselves Burlington Coat Factory. They just
go by Burlington now the whole coat factory side of
things has been removed from the Moniker, so they've kind
(06:15):
of rebranded themselves too. So if that's the case, yes,
we've had one before, but is this going to have
a completely different feel than those of us that, you know,
what we remember from the past. So yeah, it's exciting,
fun news and and and it's different. That's the other thing.
They're they're different retailers.
Speaker 6 (06:35):
You know.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
They're not up at the Highlands, they're not in Washington, PA.
They're not at what's the other place at Robinson, you know.
So these are new for our area. So it will
it's gonna it's gonna freshen some things up. And like
I said, we're gonna talk to Candy a little bit
later in the show about that to really get into
some details and why they went this route, you know,
(06:57):
and maybe I will try to get a little bit
more info about other possible new retailers, maybe some new
food vendors that might be coming to the mall. So
we'll get into that a little bit later. Otis holy.
Speaker 5 (07:21):
Not a holy.
Speaker 6 (07:25):
Are?
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Or maybe I'm not. I have not had a few
cocktails this morning, people, No, it is. It's national talk
like a pirate day. So I want to have some
fun with this, some clean fun. You've already putting your
hand on your forehead. Forehead call in one sixty four
(07:54):
eleven seventy, and please give us your best pie impersonation.
Let's celebrate today, Let's celebrate talk like a pirate day.
It's a Friday? Why not? The timing's perfect?
Speaker 3 (08:16):
What nothing?
Speaker 2 (08:19):
You're even read? Why are you read?
Speaker 3 (08:21):
I'm not read? Lack a sleep probably?
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah, okay, but yeah call us one eight hundred and
sixty two four eleven seventy. Let's celebrate talk like a
pirate day? Why not? And then, of course it is
a Friday. So we have a fun question for you,
and that question is what simple childhood toy? Will always
be fun? Just the simple things in life. It stands
(08:46):
the test of time doesn't matter if you were born
in twenty fifteen or nineteen sixty five. Every kid can
still have fun with it sitting on our Facebook page,
so you can go on there or camm and comment
on the post. Or of course, as I said, you
can call us one in one hundred and sixty two
(09:07):
four eleven seventy. Or there is also the handy dandy
text line seven zero four seven zero. Start the message
off with bloom Daddy and then just give us your
toy or your best pirate line. Otis is anxiously sitting
in there waiting to hear the pirate impersonations. He is
(09:34):
thrilled with me right now, he is absolutely thrilled. It
is seven point fifteen. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience,
Sam and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Welcome back
(09:55):

bringing that for you. Also a little bit of happier news.
(10:40):
We have chances for you to win this morning. We
have something new. We have something new. I am excited
and I hope you are too. Here's my hint, none
shall pass 'tis but a scratch, any idea otis you know?
Speaker 3 (11:01):
Yeah, I'm not gonna guess I know who it is,
okay't I wasn't listening to your quote, but.
Speaker 2 (11:10):
It's just a flesh wound. Yes, So if you haven't
picked it up by now, we have tickets to see
John Cleese right here at the Capitol and that show
is October twelve.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Well it's a screaming screening of money Pipeon's Holy Grail,
and then John Clee will be on after to answer
your questions. The promo has been running on our show
for ever a while. So yeah, but John Clee's very funny.
I just in fact, I just saw the episode of
Cheers where he was the guest, like he was he
was okay? He actually I think he won an Emmy
(11:45):
for this guest appearance on that Cheers where he plays
marriage counselor and Sam and Diane won't take no for
an answer, Like he just tells them they shouldn't be
together and she keeps going back. Oh, it's a great one.
I don't remember that one season five?
Speaker 2 (12:00):
You even know the season?
Speaker 3 (12:01):
Yeah, because it's the last season with Diane.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
Oh okay, okay, So we're gonna have chances for that
throughout the show. Excuse me, so you need to stay
tuned for that. You had a fun night last night,
didn't you.
Speaker 3 (12:16):
Oh? I had a blast.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
He got to spend yesterday morning and yesterday evening with me.
We we were honored. First of all, we want to
say thank you to the Saint Clairsville Area Chamber of
Commerce for asking us to mc their annual awards dinner
last night.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
It was.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
It was a good time, wonderful food.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
You know.
Speaker 3 (12:39):
You know what I like the most was the way
that they had it set up that it moved relatively quickly.
Speaker 2 (12:44):
It did.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
It did it was, It wasn't drawn out and you
know a lot of the you know, the award winners
didn't spend you know, it wasn't the Oscars where.
Speaker 2 (12:54):
They we didn't have a bat Yeah, we didn't have
to bust light to buzz them off the stage. No, No,
it was a good time just to just want to
give a shout out to those winners that you know,
they took home the awards last night. Distinguished employer HERB
Electric located you know, right across the river in Bridgeport,
(13:15):
the employee of our one hundred and fifty electricians. So
congratulations to them, they were the distinguished employer. Community involvement
goes to our friends at Trinity Health System. Of course
they brought us the new community hospital located in Saint
Clairsville in Belmont County, which is making and has already
made a huge difference in healthcare in Belmont County. Service
(13:37):
above self, which you've heard her here before, Stacy Stephen,
who is the executive director of the United Way. That
award is given or sponsored by the Rotary of Saint Clairsville,
and it speaks for itself. It's service above self. So
and everybody knows who has listened to the show that
(13:57):
Stacy is a great leader at the United Way. In
this year has been a challenge with the flooding, and
she and her team have completely stepped up. And then
of course the business of the year goes to Bell
Co Works, which for decades has accomplished wonderful things in
Belmont County in the area for lots of folks. And
(14:19):
then we got to see and I got to see
for the first time. And you've seen him before. The
speaker of the night was Craig Cargus. I have never
seen him be performed before. That kind of stuff. I'm
sitting there trying to figure it out. Now, No, what
would you It's not a magician a mentalist. Is that
what you would say?
Speaker 3 (14:39):
Say I would say, I'd say, there's a little bit
of magician. There's a little very little magician. There is
more mentalists illusionists.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Yeah, you know, like the whole table thing. The whole time,
I'm sitting there going, okay, now, how is this? Like
I want to go like this and look under the table,
and it's like, how is this happening That doesn't mess
with you, that doesn't like frustrate you watching it? No?
Oh No, I sit there and I'm trying to figure
it out the whole time. And then I give myself
(15:09):
a headache because I'm not figuring it out.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
So when he asked for the two even numbers that
were above fifty below one hundred, and they were not
the same number, did you guess the number? What was
your number?
Speaker 2 (15:23):
Sixty four?
Speaker 3 (15:24):
So I was going to write down sixty eight, and
then he held it up so and.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Half the room had sixty eight. Yeah, I just I
I just that's but if you have a chance to
go see him, go see him. It was. It was
really good, really entertaining what.
Speaker 3 (15:45):
I'm looking at. Some of the photos from last night.
They just happened to pop up on Facebook. Oh, and
like it's almost every every picture. They're taking pictures of
the people that are on stage, and it's like, my
head's looking down in something else.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Well, Lisa, this is all like midward and your mouth
is hanging open. That's always a real attractive shot too.
What am I doing? Or am I not?
Speaker 3 (16:07):
In the pictures? Most of time you can't see, like
this is when I come in the background, Like why
would you crop that stuff?
Speaker 2 (16:15):
It's funny and everybody out there can hear it, can
see exactly what we're talking about. Yeah, that's that's great.
Speaker 3 (16:21):
It's almost like I have a member's only jacket on.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
Ah.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
None of those weren't rock last night at the Chamber
of Dinner. So again we're gonna have your chance to
win excuse me, tickets to see John Clace. That's coming up.
And then our question of the day, besides, we want
to hear your best pirate impersonation since it's national talk
like a Pirate day. That didn't that's that was bad.
(16:49):
That was bad. But what is what is a classic
toy that spans the generations like it does not matter.
It's simple, but it stands the test of time. One
six four eleven seventy is our number. Of course, you
can text us seven zero four seven zero, or you
(17:10):
can go on our Facebook page like Franci did and
put wooden blocks the universal toy we want to hear
from you. The bloom Daddy Experience samon otis welcome back
seven thirty six on this Friday. Of course you're listening
(17:31):
to the bloom Daddy Experience. Samon otis News Radio eleven
seventy WWVA. So our question of the day is what
is it? Just a basic, simple childhood, childhood toy that
will always be fun no matter your age. No matter
what generation you're from, it's still relevant. You're still gonna
have fun with it. And here's the reason why this
(17:53):
is where this this question is coming from. Like, like
I said on Facebook, Francie said, Wooden blocks the universal toy.
You can call us one one hundred and sixty two
for eleven seventy. You can comment on Facebook, of course,
or you can text us seven zero four seven zero
started off with bloom Daddy and then tell us your toy.
You notice we have we have a call.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
We do I have no idea who this is?
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Okay, all right, who is this?
Speaker 7 (18:20):
Ash is dav O Jones calling to you from the
bottom of the Higher River in the morning, and all
you get land lumbers. I'm just calling to remind everyone
I have the number one college team and all of
America and all the Caribbeans. It's the Ohio State Book
Eye so altogether our oh our h R I R
(18:48):
oh oh book. Guys, have a good day.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
I think that was pretty good. That's pretty good. I
believe I know who that was.
Speaker 3 (19:01):
I know who was.
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Yeah, yeah, thank you Davo for the call. That was
pretty That was pretty good. And if anybody is just
tuning in and you're wondering why he sounded like that.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
That was in cell because he's nuts.
Speaker 2 (19:13):
Well that, but it's it's national talk like a pirate day.
So if you've got a good pirate voice, call in
one eight hundred six two four eleven seventy, just like
Dvo did otis are you're gonna You're gonna give us one?
Speaker 3 (19:30):
No, I could talk like a pirate, but I'd either
talk like like Paul Skins or somebody.
Speaker 2 (19:35):
Oh that kind of pirate. How does Paul Skins talk
just like this? I thought maybe we were gonna say it.
He had like a crazy Southern accent.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
He's from me, He's from California.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
Oh no, okay, fine, mister poo pooh, No fun, I'm tired.
No fun. He had too much We had too much
fun last night.
Speaker 3 (19:54):
No, I didn't get any sleep last night thanks to
a pair of dogs.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
And yes, I understand, I understand. So back to the
toy part of the conversation. Here's here's where this is
coming from. Because the National Toy Hall of Fame has
announced its twelve finalists for the twenty twenty five class,
including snow as one of the top twelve finalists. Snow,
(20:21):
not a snow globe. Snow.
Speaker 3 (20:25):
Oh you made snowballs, snow men, other contracting forts iglues.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Have you ever made an igloob you have?
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Back in the day, you could buy the igloo blockmaker
off of like TV and so you was it a
box pretty much a plastic It looked like a plastic
shoe box. Yeah, pretty much. It was plastic, had a
handle on it, You packed it with snow, and then
you made a snow brick.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
Never seen one of those before.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Because it was probably like in the late seventies early seventies,
was not born.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
All right, So along with snow, the other contenders are
the game battle Ship. I loved a good battleship game.
My grandmother loved Battleship Connect four. Uh spirograph had one
of those. Those are fun. Trivial pursuit, Nope, nope. My
grandfather was amazing at the original trivial pursuit. Amazing at
(21:20):
trivial pursuit. You could see his mind just go Catan.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
Yeah, I've got I've got it.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Oh, Okay, before we go to the rest of them,
we got a call we do.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
We have Craig who wants to talk about his favorite toy.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
Good morning, Craig.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
Morning, you did say, Craig, didn't you?
Speaker 5 (21:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (21:43):
What you got for us?
Speaker 5 (21:46):
Slot car track.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
Slots in this they run through his slot. They don't,
they don't change.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Okay, okay, Now were that was that for matchbox or
just in general?
Speaker 5 (22:02):
In general?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
Okay? Okay? And you had those when you were when
you were a kid?
Speaker 7 (22:07):
Hey, yeah, did.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
You get into some competitive races with your brother or
neighbors or anything like that? Always wonderful, Well, Craig, thank
you so much for the call.
Speaker 3 (22:21):
Have a good we have Joe. Good morning, we have
Joe online. Good morning, Joey. Silly Putty. I remember Silly
Putty used to get it with the Sunday comics and
you'd print the comics off on it, and you'd have
the mirror image of all kinds of things you can
(22:44):
do with Silly Putty. Absolutely, thanks so much for the call,
and thanks for the pirate talk.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
Silly Putty was perfect for repairing the nail holes in
your dorm room.
Speaker 3 (22:57):
I'll take your word for that.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
That way you didn't get charged.
Speaker 3 (23:00):
The I only lived in the dorm for a year.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Oh I did for two years. Yeah, Silly Putty or
white toothpaste came in really handy.
Speaker 5 (23:06):
All right.
Speaker 2 (23:06):
Some of the other contenders, let's see here, Scooters, slime
corn Hoole, Star Wars Lightsaber, the Ferbie, remember the Ferby,
that creepy little like thing that did that and its
ears moved.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Well, you gotta figure the Star Wars Lightsaber came out
and probably like seventy seven seventy eight, because it's the
movie came out in seventy seven, so the toys probably
came out pretty close to that. You know, maybe not
right as the movie was coming out, because you don't
know if it's going to be successful. So the toys
were probably out by Christmas to seventy seven. And the
lightsabers haven't gone anywhere. They're still a popular toy.
Speaker 2 (23:46):
Well, didn't one just go up for auction last week?
Speaker 3 (23:48):
And movie prop?
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Yeah, yeah, and it was like millions and millions of dollars.
And I watched a documentary and I forget if it
was on Netflix, and it told how the first round
of toys for the Star Wars movie were originally made
in a very very small family toy factory in Cincinnati,
(24:10):
and then when it exploded, there was this big lawsuit
legal situation because they had to go to a bigger
toy company, this big confounded thing. But yeah, they were
first originally made in Cincinnati, you know. So some of
the other ones, let's see here, last year's winners were
My Little Pony Transformers Phase ten. Uh and that's all
(24:32):
they have listed for last year. But yeah, the uh,
I don't remember Catan. What is that a board game?
Speaker 3 (24:38):
It's kind I have it, I've never opened it. No, no,
because you have to have three players, and we never
had three players.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
You don't have two friends. So on Facebook, let's see here,
Glory says marbles yep jacks, and the lemon twist does that?
I that does not. I have no idea what that is. Glory,
if you're if you're listening, please call us and tell
(25:06):
us what the lemon twist is, because we are both
both stumped on that one. Let's see her. Warren says
the slinky, Wendy says, silly putty.
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Slinky's already in. I believe already in.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Yeah, yeah, So what would be yours? If you go
to just like a classic always will.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
Be fun, I mean just about any ball. I mean
because of basketball, baseball, kickball, dodgeball with a ball. You know,
there's just so many you know that you can do
with in something that's round and you can either throw
or catch or kick or whatever.
Speaker 2 (25:45):
My first thought was the well, yeah, my first thought
was the big wheel.
Speaker 3 (25:51):
You know how many big wheels I went through as
a kid, You probably be out of them. Well, the
Mark's Toy Factory was There's They had a they had
a warehouse right across the street from my grandparents, and
so back in the day, my grandfather like if my
big wheel was getting worn out, and he would go
over and buy one. It not retail so like they'd
(26:12):
sell it. They'd sell it to him for like five bucks.
Oh nice, but they were like fifteen or twenty bucks
in the stores. So that's I always got mine fresh
from the market.
Speaker 2 (26:22):
Stacey just texted on our text line seven zero four
seven zero, start the message off with bloom Daddy, and
she said, the classic easy bake oven. That's a classic.
That's a classic. No, I went through like three big
wheels and it always sucked because we had we didn't
have a flat drive. We had gravel, and you'd hit
(26:44):
that run one stone the wrong way and you'd get
a dent in the front wheel. And then it was
like having the bad grocery cart. You're like, don't'tn't you know?
Speaker 5 (26:54):
It was like.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
Tu punk Happy Friday. That was my my pirate impersonation.
Don't da don't seven forty six. You're listening to The
bloom Daddy Experience. Drunk Sam and Otis.
Speaker 3 (27:13):
We just took it. We just had a thing on this.
You're not supposed to drink.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
On the job, and I passed the test too. Welcome back,
seven fifty one, The bloom Daddy Experience, Otis and Sam.
News Radio eleven seventy w w VA. Coming up, we're
(27:37):
gonna have your first chance to win this morning, a
pair of tickets to see John Cleese right here at
the Capitol Theater. It's happening October twelfth. Of course, Monty
Python gonna be a viewing and then a Q and
A afterwards with the star John Cleese. So that's coming up.
So we're talking toys this morning. Vintage toy not vintage toys, toys,
just toys that stand the test the time. And said
(28:00):
it a little bit earlier before the break, we were
talking about one comment from Glory on Facebook, which was
the the lemon. Uh, I'm sorry the the the lemon
toy that she referenced, Well, she's sent a picture via email,
which of course you can do that. Sam at iHeartMedia
dot com get in on the conversation the vintage lemon
(28:20):
twist hop skip it jump ankle skipping outdoor. So it
looks like you know when you buy lemon juice and
it's that plastic lemon that it comes in shaped like
a lemon. Yes, and it's on like this black rubber
band tube.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
Thing an ankle. Yeah, yeah, and then you jump it.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Yes, Okay, that's what That's what her comment was. I
had no thank you glory because I had no clue
what that was. Stan on our text line, which you
can get in on the conversation seven zero four seven
zero started off with bloom Daddy. Stan said a nerve
boomerang and he's all has one.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
You could never get him to come back.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
Did they actually really come back?
Speaker 8 (29:07):
Though?
Speaker 2 (29:08):
I don't think I've ever seen anybody have them come
unless you're like Australian. I've never actually seen him come back.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
I've seen him turn, but I've never seen him actually. Actually,
if you go to the beach, there's always somebody that
has a boomerang that can always do it to.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Make it work. Yep, I could never get a kite
to fly.
Speaker 3 (29:24):
That doesn't surprise me. Jarni Brown, I can just see you. You
got a kite the next way, you're all wrapped up
in the string, hanging upside down out of the tree.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
No, it wasn't that. I would run and run and
try to catch the win and try to get that
stupid Nope. Never never worked, never worked. Let's see on Facebook,
if you want to get in on this, you can
go on there. Let's say Robin says, playto that's a classic.
That's a classic playto.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
I've been up there with Chili Putty. I mean, now
they're not the same, but they're similar.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
I love the sniff Plato. I'm not ashamed to say it.
I'll say it, never ate it. I'm not a Plato eater.
That is not what I'm saying. I like the smell
of Plato. I broke him. I think I broke him. Hey,
I'm not ashamed. I'm not embarrassed. I don't care. Also
(30:25):
on Facebook, evil Canievil motorcycle.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
I knew that would get you the best. It was
the best. I gave mine away. We still to this
day I regret it.
Speaker 2 (30:37):
I bet it'd be worth money, it is.
Speaker 3 (30:40):
The other thing I had was I had the home
version of the Evil can Eevil pinball machine, like.
Speaker 9 (30:44):
Big big pinball, you had a pinball machine.
Speaker 3 (30:49):
I took it to WVU with me. Oh, and so
what held the back to the to the base of
the thing was just some like press wood, and one
of my friends leaned on it and it broke. And
then all you had to I mean, of course at
the time I wasn't smart enough to figure this out.
All you had to do was pop that press wood
off and put another piece of wood down and it
(31:09):
would have been perfect. And so I brought it home
and sat in the garage and we finally put it
out for the guard, which you meant to take it.
And that that pinball machine's worked like four thousand dollars
five thousand dollars right now.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Oh that hurts, Yeah, that hurts so.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
Evil Canievel was good to me as a kid, and
I screwed everything up as an adult.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Yeah, but you had to have like the coolest dorm
room if you had a full sized pinball.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
Yes, it was in the apartment.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Oh what ever wherever you lived?
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Yeah, I mean we played we played that thing. Then
Nintendo came out and said the pinball machine kind of
went to the wayside.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Yeah, became antiquated.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
Yeah, because we were playing golf and duck hunt and everything.
When the doc.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Hunt, I went right up to the screen.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Did justine that popped on Peter?
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Basically? On Facebook? Darren and Carrie they must have a
combined hou toss across rock them sock them robots. I
had this mm hmm Twister and Yancey. When it comes
to board games, yep.
Speaker 3 (32:12):
Like I yeah, I actually played Trivial Pursuit on the
plane that you could play it like video. You could
watch the movies or you could play games. So I
played Trivial Pursuit.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
How good were you?
Speaker 3 (32:23):
I wasn't bad. I could never land on the thing
to get.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
The pis stupid pie pieces.
Speaker 3 (32:28):
You know. So I was like, and then you know
the computer, you're playing a computer, so and it would
be like then it would it would miss an easy
question and get one like like nobody in their right
mind would ever answer a question, and it would be
like whatever, And after like a half an hour, I
just got bored and quit and went to play I
played Roulette instead.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Well, trivial Pursuit's one of the ones up for, you know,
getting into the class this year of the Toy Hall
of Fame. And I was saying earlier, you were taking
a phone call my grandfather, he like skipped two grades
in school. I mean, this is naturally a really smart guy,
and he was amazing at trivial Pursuit. So when the
pop Culture edition came out where you had to identify
(33:11):
movies by like a three second clip or you know,
a one line or that kind of stuff. Love that game.
I knocked it out of the park. Nobody will play
that game with me. So I can actually say I'm
really good at trivial pursuit. It just has to be
one of the very specific versions of trivial pursuit. What
(33:33):
are you laughing at?
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Somebody asked me, is that what's wrong with you today?
You sniff played it before you came in, and I said, nah,
it was model glue.
Speaker 2 (33:46):
Are they talking about me or you?
Speaker 3 (33:47):
You?
Speaker 2 (33:48):
I know, I'll stop listen. It's Friday. I wanna laugh.
Speaker 9 (33:52):
I want to have some fun.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
It's a loud Oh, let's do it. Speaking of last
John Cleese one, eight hundred sixty two four eleven seventy
you first chance to win this morning. You'll get to
see the classic Monty Python in the Holy Grail. And
then here from one of the stars, John CLEAs themselves again,
that's happening. October twelfth, one eight hundred sixty two four
(34:15):
eleven seventy What number eleven Color number eleven one eight
hundred sixty two four eleven seventy seven fifty eight on
this Friday, The bloom Daddy Experience, News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Speaker 1 (34:34):
Z number one talk show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
News Radio eleven seventy. It's the bloom Daddy Experience. Hey,
it's eight six, let's get this hour rolling.
Speaker 5 (35:00):
It's a Friday, baby.
Speaker 4 (35:01):
Good Friday morning to you, and thanks so much for
tuning in to the Blue Daddy Experience. I'm gonna kick
off this Friday with some good news pertaining to the
Ohio Valley.
Speaker 5 (35:08):
Mall and this is something that I've.
Speaker 4 (35:10):
Been talking about for quite some time, and I know
Sam and OTAs have too. But some big additions are
coming to the mall. Academy Sports and Outdoors and Burlington
Coat Factory are going to be in the former Seers store.
Boot Barn is going to be in part of the
former Macy space. And I know there's more stores coming into.
Speaker 5 (35:31):
The Macys space. I just don't know.
Speaker 4 (35:33):
How many in who they are other than boot Barn.
So Academy Sports and Outdoors, Burlington Coat Factory and Bootbarn
coming to the Ohigh Valley Mall. They're saying probably late
twenty twenty six. If you don't know anything about Academy
Sports and Outdoors, it's really cool. I mean, think I
don't know Minny Cabellas full lot of sporting goods, outdoor retailers.
(35:56):
They've got about three hundred stores across twenty one states.
We're talking fishing, camping, equipment, gear, sports and leisure products, footwear, apparel.
It's gonna be about fifty six thousand square feet. And
this is something really needed at the mall. I mean,
you got to go all the way up to Capella's
if you don't want to drive all the way up
to the Highlands. Now you're gonna have Academy Sports and
(36:18):
Outdoors to get all your recreational items in sporting items
and things like that, in addition to Dunhams. And I
think Dunhams is a very very good store at the
Ohio Valley Mall. So Academy Sports and Outdoors gonna go
into part of the old Seers space. And then Burlington
Coat Factory. You're talking about a fortune five hundred company,
(36:38):
about fifteen hundred stores. I looked up at the end
of the second quarter of fiscal twenty twenty five and
forty six states. So women's apparel, men's wear, youth apparel,
baby beauty, footwear, accessories.
Speaker 5 (36:52):
Home toys, gifts, coats.
Speaker 4 (36:54):
I mean, the list goes on and on and on
and again. Should be ready to go by late April.
So Burlington Code Factory and Academy Sports and Outdoors going
into the old series location Boot Barn Ladies. I have
a feeling you're gonna love this. Gonna open its doors
later in twenty twenty six to two. Gonna be about
(37:14):
thirteen thousand square feet of what used to be Macy's
now They're one of the largest western and workwear retailers
in the nation. Cowboy Boots, work boots, westernware, workwear, Western
inspired fashion, outdoor gear. And like I said, per my source,
(37:35):
that Macy's space is really.
Speaker 5 (37:38):
Going to be utilized.
Speaker 4 (37:39):
So the Boot Barn's going in, but I can guarantee
you there's gonna be some more announcements I don't know
how soon of more stores going into that Macy space.
It's fantastic news for the Ohio Valley Mall because we've
needed some new tenants. These are big name tenants and
(38:00):
when you can get people like Burlington Coke Factory or
Academy Sports and Outdoors in your facility, that opens the
door for others to kind of follow suit. And I
will always have a special place in my heart for
the High Valley Mall.
Speaker 5 (38:15):
I remember when it opened. I think I was nine
years old.
Speaker 4 (38:19):
And it was everything. I mean, that's where you went. Obviously,
the new cinema coming in, so there's a lot of
things moving and shaking at the High Valley Mall. Sam
otis your thoughts on Academy Sports and Outdoors Burlington and Sam,
I know you're gonna love the Boot.
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Barn that's an understatement. That's an absolute understatement. And joining
us now in studio we have marketing director of the
High Valley Mall, Candy Noble Great House. Thank you so
much for popping in this morning. Oh it's exciting. I
know it was kind of last minute request, but of
course you know problems whatsoever. So anything going on at
the High Valley Mall.
Speaker 8 (38:55):
Yes, we made an announcement that Academies Sports and Outdoors
and Burlington are both coming to come to the former
Sears location. And then even more excitement because boot Barn
is going to come to part of the former Macy's location.
Speaker 2 (39:12):
Okay, So you said Burlington, and people are asking, is
that Burlington coat factory just with a new name it
They have kind of reinvented them. Okay, that's what I thought.
Speaker 9 (39:21):
Yes, it's a.
Speaker 8 (39:24):
Much a smaller platform or like not a ginormous store,
just Burlington has kind of redone. But it has been
many years and we're really excited. But it is Burlington,
not Burlington co Factory, but Burlington.
Speaker 9 (39:37):
Okay, and.
Speaker 2 (39:40):
The boot Barn. So when we were texting last night,
you said you just had the opportunity to go visit
one of those correct, Yes, I did. Okay, so kind
of paint the picture for us.
Speaker 9 (39:49):
I am super excited.
Speaker 8 (39:50):
I'm not sure exactly what ours will look like, but
there are so many boots, just lines and lines of boots.
There are hats and belts and boots for children, men
and women, and then really trendy clothing. So I know,
concert season, I'm okay, that's definitely going to be a
(40:11):
huge hit.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Okay. So it's not I mean, there's the Western look.
It is the Western. It's not just pigeonholed to that
particular style.
Speaker 8 (40:20):
There's more, there's more, and it's definitely the New Age clothing.
It's not it's there's a lot of fringe and stuff,
but I mean if you just dabble in a little
bit of the style.
Speaker 2 (40:35):
There's more variety.
Speaker 3 (40:36):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
So, and this is going into the Macy's location, the
former Macy's location. Yes, so both if you're looking at
the front of the mall from when you know, coming in,
so both sides of those those former anchor locations, those
are all under construction and it's moving very quickly.
Speaker 8 (40:53):
Yes it is. I mean, of course, we started construction
in the former Sears location, which was some demo and
then an addition and that started around December January last year.
Speaker 2 (41:06):
And it's and it's really exciting because I was speaking
a couple of weeks ago to a friend of mine
and saying, you know, I mean for women and men too,
retail therapy is some of the best therapy out there. Yes,
maybe not according to my husband, but for me it is.
And you know, there's the whole the online shopping and
and but there's nothing like going trying on feeling what
(41:28):
you're purchasing, and that that experience has been lost I
think for a lot of people. So the fact that
the mall is continuing to bring in news stores freshen
it up, something that we don't have here in the
High Valley is a huge credit to you, your team
and everybody involved.
Speaker 8 (41:43):
Yes, like you, they they our real estate office works very,
very hard. These are deals that have been going for
quite a while, but we and might not have been
a secret to some, but.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
I wouldn't know.
Speaker 8 (41:58):
I know you asked me many times, but they're really
able to talk about it now.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
Yes, Candy should work at Fort Knox, That's all I
have to say. I would try and try and try
so one of the other things that I've been asked
about a lot is food. Of course, you get the
food court question constantly. But if you are my age
and older, I remember the Wendy's location. I remember, you know,
walking in and the tables and the smell and all
(42:24):
that kind of stuff you know people are looking for.
Is there any possible in the future new food places.
Speaker 8 (42:31):
Well, you know, our real estate office is in at
them all weekly, and of course we field calls too,
so they definitely are always talking and showing spaces. And
if you're interested a week and certainly give you a tour.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
Is there any other announcements coming soon? Any little teas
you can give me?
Speaker 8 (42:56):
I don't think I have any more teas. You know,
we're excited for a fourth quarter opening of Golden Ticket Cinemas.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
That's what I'm going to ask you. Well, while you're here,
the status of the new cinemas, because which, by the way,
the seats are great. Yes, they're so comfy.
Speaker 9 (43:11):
Yes, we're super excited.
Speaker 8 (43:13):
I can't believe it's we were talking about this what
March April time. Yeah, yeah, and so it's been speeding
right along. It is fourth quarter, but I know we're
almost too fourth quarter now no exact time announced. We
anticipate probably in November opening, so.
Speaker 2 (43:32):
Right before the big holiday. Yes, yes, excuse me. And
with the holidays coming up, what do you have plan
like Santa's arrival. We've got all that.
Speaker 8 (43:41):
Santa is arriving on November fifteenth, I already now, I
already know, and we are involving our train I do
know that as well. And then of course we have
Super Saturday and Super Sunday that's the weekend before Christmas,
and then of course we're getting ready for our shopping
for Black Friday. We also have some Halloween fun happening
(44:05):
and some text texting contests. Oh okay, So if you
want to be in the know on when the movie
theater might open and anything else that's coming soon, you
can always go to our website and join our texting club.
And like I said, we give away a lot of
texting details information. We give away the details, but we
(44:29):
also have some prizes and gift cards. Well yes, so
so check it out.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
Who doesn't want a gift card?
Speaker 3 (44:35):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (44:36):
Really, really well, Candy, thank you so much this morning.
Again the big announcement yesterday Academy Sports and Outdoors Burlington
and the boot Barn, three major new retailers to hit
the High Valley Mall in twenty twenty six. Correct, at
some point they don't have exact dates, exact date, but
that's what we're yes, yes, So when you see that
(44:58):
action going on, that is what is happening over at
the a High Volley Mall. It is eight sixteen. You
are listening to the Bloomdaddy Experience. I'm Sam, He's Otis
here on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Welcome back to
bloom Daddy Experience. Sam and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
(45:22):
It is a busy Friday, but still having fun. Our
question of the day is what is a simple childhood
toy that basically stands the test of time? Like Otis said,
the ball? Okay, well that's not real exciting, but you
know the ball, baseball, basketball, it's all kind of wrapped
up into one. Stand on our text line, said a
nerf boomerang. Our text line is seven zero four seven zero.
(45:44):
Start the message off with bloom Daddy to get in
on the conversation. And then of course our Facebook teach
on Facebook said otis, this is a classic. The etch
a sketch. Oh yeah, how many times you should shake
that thing? Now? I always ended up I write my name. Yeah,
I always ended up going back over the line, and yeah,
(46:05):
it was always a mess. So yeah, get in on
the conversation. One hundred and sixty to fort eleven seventy
our Facebook or of course our text line. But it
is busy in Belmont County with last night's announcement from
the High Valley Mall. Of course, we had just had
Candy Noble Greathouse in here talking about it but also
joining us. Next we have Jackie Pugh, the executive director
of Belmont County Tourism. Thank you so much for coming
(46:28):
in this morning.
Speaker 9 (46:29):
Thank you for having me.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
Yes, So, first of all, I'm gonna put it at
your feet, toy, give me a toy.
Speaker 9 (46:35):
So my toy that stands the testa time is the
easy bake oven. I know I had one as a child,
My daughter had one as a child, and it still
was the same easy bake oven that made terrible cookies.
But you're so proud of yourself when you get one
out and you can actually eat it.
Speaker 2 (46:53):
I see, mine never even really made it into the oven.
I just wanted the mix, like the Dylls. Yeah, Ois,
how was your bake oven?
Speaker 3 (47:01):
Never had one? Here's the real thing.
Speaker 2 (47:03):
Oh, okay, fine, there's nothing like cooking with a light bulb.
That's what Stacey said on our text line earlier.
Speaker 3 (47:08):
I had a popcorn popper that cooked with a light bulb.
Speaker 2 (47:11):
Really, I've never seen one of those. Okay, what was
that called.
Speaker 3 (47:15):
A popcorn popper?
Speaker 2 (47:18):
Okay, I thought maybe it was like a special brand. Okay,
never mind, never mind. Well listen, I wanted to bring
you in today, Jackie, because I love this time of year.
It's one of the most beautiful times across the Ohio
Valley everywhere, the leaves changing, all of that. So there's
plenty of things going on, of course in Belmont County,
and you think fall pumpkins, Barnesville.
Speaker 9 (47:42):
Absolutely this is our busiest time of the year. Not
only is it beautiful just to go for a Sunday drive,
but there are events happening all across the county. So
next week already hard to believe. It is the Barnesville
Pumpkin Festival, one of my favorite times of the year.
It kicks off Wednesday night with the King Pumpkin Way In,
(48:04):
which is just incredible. To see these growers bring these
ginormous pumpkins that they've been babying and taking care of
all year long to weigh off for who is the
King Pumpkin. And if you can't make that event live
in Barnesville, the Tourism Office does a live stream of
the Way in Okay and we've done it for the
(48:26):
last few years. We have people from all across the
country that like, I'm man the chat during that event
and people are like, I'm watching from Alaska, I'm here
from Florida. Really, I grew up in Barnesville and moved away.
This is so great to be able to watch it
here in South Carolina, Arizona, all across the US.
Speaker 2 (48:46):
Is for credible for the pumpkin, for.
Speaker 9 (48:48):
The Pumpkin Way in people love it.
Speaker 2 (48:51):
Do you remember last year's wait, do you remember it was?
I aren't they usually over like a thousand pounds?
Speaker 3 (48:57):
Yeah?
Speaker 9 (48:58):
Last year with the drought, the pumpkin was not as
big last year as the previous year, which was like
a record breaking pumpkin. It set the Pennsylvania pumpkin record size.
But last year there were no record breakings, but it
still was a GINAI pumpkin.
Speaker 2 (49:17):
I know you don't know all the pumpkin records. I'm
sorry to just drop.
Speaker 3 (49:19):
That on you.
Speaker 2 (49:20):
It's okay, I'm trying pumpkin knowledge. I get it. So
we've got the way in. And then of course that
leads into the week of everything that goes on in Barnesville.
I was talking to somebody a couple of days ago
about how beautiful. Yeah, Barnesville is a little gem. I
lived in Barnesville for a while, so I loved I
absolutely love Barnesville. I've always said the Pumpkin Festival is
a perfect setting for a Hallmark fall harvest filming of
(49:43):
a movie.
Speaker 9 (49:43):
Absolutely, it would be perfect. It is absolutely beautiful driving
into Barnonstell, seeing those Victorian homes, all the guards are
decorated for the There's so much pride, I mean there
is community. Pride is just through the roof in Barnesville,
and they are so happy to showcase their little hidden
gem of the county during this week.
Speaker 2 (50:03):
So moving on from the pumpkin Festival, let's get into
some scary stuff because October is right around the corner
with Halloween, and you know, we've got all the history
here in Belmont County.
Speaker 9 (50:13):
We love spooky season. So from cemetery walks to the
events at Piedmont with their camp site decorating, to bar
Camp that also has a fun Halloween trick or treat event.
Then you have the Saint Clairsville Chamber who has an
adult trick or treating event in downtown Saint Clairsville.
Speaker 2 (50:33):
I have participated. It is a it is so fun,
really fun time. Yeah.
Speaker 9 (50:37):
So we have stuff for the kids, we have stuff
for the adults, and then we have stuff for the
people that love spooky. So at the Saint Clairsville Library
there's a presentation called Legends and Lores that gets into
some of those creepy storytelling events that have happened in
Belmont County. The most famous one, of course, is Thomas Carr,
(50:59):
who murdered his very young girlfriend and was the first
man hung I think, first and only person hung in
Belmont County. And it actually happened right at the location
of where the Heritage Museum is now.
Speaker 2 (51:13):
Okay, right on right next to the courthouse.
Speaker 9 (51:16):
Yes, and there's of course lots of ghost stories of
him and his girlfriend haunting the area.
Speaker 3 (51:23):
Nice.
Speaker 9 (51:23):
Yeah, creepy, creepy, but people love that stuff.
Speaker 2 (51:27):
I mean people love all those stories and they want
that that that adrenaline Willy.
Speaker 9 (51:34):
Yeah, you know, it's like the true crime. Yeah, like
people love that. So we definitely have our own stories
and legends and lores to tell throughout the county well and.
Speaker 2 (51:44):
With everything that's happening. Of course, everybody can go to
visit Belmont County dot com. Go to the events tab
and check out the calendar events for remaining here in
September and then into October, and then after that we
are into holiday season.
Speaker 9 (52:00):
First starts the Christmas tours at the Victorian Mansion Miami.
Oh yeah, it's hard to believe it's gonna be here.
Before we know it's here, It is, it is here people. Ah,
thank you so much this morning, Jackie.
Speaker 2 (52:12):
Again, please go to visit Belmont County dot com and
learn about everything that is happening. It's eight twenty eight.
You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience samon Otis News
Radio eleven seventy WWVA. We are back at it's eight
(52:34):
thirty six on your Friday morning, The bloom Daddy Experience,
samon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Just a reminder coming.
I'm gonna have your last chance to win this morning.
We have another pair of tickets to see John Clease,
of course, Monty Python and the Holy Grail going to
be happening here at the Capital Q and a session
(52:54):
after watching the film that's happening October twelfth, We're gonna
have another chance for you to win this morning. With that,
and that ties into a question that we received on
our text line, which is seven zero four seven zero.
Started off with bloom daddy stop. Start the body of
the message off with bloem daddy and says Samon, Notice
how many times can I win? I love trying every time.
(53:15):
Don't want to overdo so you can be a winner
every thirty days?
Speaker 3 (53:21):
Yep, yeah, unless we specify something is yeah.
Speaker 2 (53:24):
Special or unique or yeah out of the ordinary. Yes, yeah,
so every thirty days. To that on our text line.
Along with that, wanted to remind you just in case
if you haven't heard us talk about it yet. Begin
I'm happening this Sunday at two o'clock, we will be
having here on WWVA live uninterrupted coverage of the memorial
(53:51):
service and funeral for Charlie Kirk. Again that is happening
at two o'clock right here on WWVA on Sunday. So
if that is something you want, you know I have
been asking about now right here, right now, not not
right now, but right here on WWVA. You can listen
to that. So if you were listening earlier, Davo called
(54:14):
in because today is national talk like a pirate day.
So if you have a good pirate line, a good
pirate voice, call us one six eleven seventy because Otis
has left let me down today and won't don't won't
play a pirate for me. I can't get him to
(54:34):
not play a pirate talk like a pirate. We're not
role playing here.
Speaker 3 (54:37):
We had an addition to our toy our toy question. Okay, hmm,
kid toy? Nothing beat the original Mac match box by
Lesnie for me. Hot Wheels was a runner up. And
that's Davo and he sent two pictures of it. Oh
of the hot wheels.
Speaker 2 (54:52):
Oh okay, yeah, because we had a match box. I'm
sorry we had. We had hot Wheels on our Facebook page.
From Jared, he threw out hot Wheels too real quick though.
Back to Davo, he made a really good point. Send
us a text that said, for all the listeners. When
we spoke to Candy from the High Valley Mall earlier,
that it will be up to them to get off
(55:15):
online shopping and support in person, in person local shopping.
So those new places don't of course go away like
we've seen with other other ones. And then that way,
you know, people won't keep saying there's nothing to do
around here. There's nowhere to shop around here. Listen the
efforts being made. And Davo makes a really good point.
(55:35):
You know you want these businesses here, you have to
support them. I understand convenience, I get all of that,
But if you want things like to like this that
are coming to the High Volley Mall to succeed, whether
it's the retail stop shops that are coming or those
that are already here, the new cinemas that are coming,
you have to support them. You have to support them.
(55:58):
And then he tied it up with a pirate R
shop local or walk the economic plank. I can't do
the R thing r R. I can't do. It just
doesn't sound right coming from me. Nothing okay, nothing nothing.
So you might be asking why we brought up toys,
(56:21):
because our question of today is, you know what is
what is a simple toy spans generations anybody can play with.
It doesn't matter what generation you're from. They stand the
test of time. Darwin, I love that name. Darwin immediately
makes me think this is a really smart person just
because the name is Darwin said on Facebook the Yo
(56:41):
Yo I was terrible with Yo yas.
Speaker 3 (56:44):
I think in here a year or two ago that it.
Speaker 2 (56:48):
Yeah, a terrible yet. And then Eric says the Honda
Z fifty does.
Speaker 3 (56:53):
That ring about?
Speaker 2 (56:57):
Oh oh, he's talking like okay, he's talking like the
real deal. Justin on Facebook says the old fashioned metal
Tonka trucks. Those could be used as a weapon. Back
in the day. They were pretty vicious. You can find
those at antique shops now at this point in time
(57:17):
there they've got some some value to them, not the
plastic the metal ones. And then Stephen said, and I've
seen this thing. I didn't even realize it was a toy,
the magnetic gyro wheel. Yeah, it's the thing that.
Speaker 3 (57:34):
Yeah, it was like it was like on a you.
So it's kind of like on a you in the
in the wheelway. You would just go back and forth
and it would roll. The magnet would roll. One way
and then it would kind of loop background, and it
would loop background the other way. Yeah, lots of lots.
Speaker 2 (57:48):
Of loops, lots of loops. Yes, So if you want,
if you have anything, of course, you can call us
one eight hundred six two four eleven seventy talking about
kind of kids in childhood and and all of that.
Blues Clues. Anybody remember Blues Clues? I remember seeing clips
of it. Of course this was after did they It
(58:10):
has a new podcast, So if you want to, well,
blues Clues doesn't Steve does know? The host? Yeah, the
former host.
Speaker 3 (58:17):
The original host.
Speaker 2 (58:18):
Yes, So if you kind of want to maybe walk
down a little bit of memory lane. Steve Burns was
the original host of this children show that aired from
nineteen ninety six to two thousand and two. Man, that
was a long time ago. Now he is fifty one
years old and has a podcast called Alive, which he
says will build on the joy and wonder of Blues Clues?
(58:40):
Did Blue was the dog?
Speaker 6 (58:41):
Right?
Speaker 2 (58:42):
Did he ever talk? The dog never kind of.
Speaker 3 (58:45):
Eat like he would like like retro or not ret row,
but you know, you know, like he would yes and
like no or like just little.
Speaker 2 (58:53):
Tone tones more than okay. Burton says the idea for
the podcast came from the viral TikTok video he posted
during the pandemic, where he checked in on his followers.
He said he found he still had a connection with
the Blues Clues generation and wanted to continue the conversation.
But maybe, you know, elevated a little bit to scale
(59:15):
it up for they are now adults. So the first
two episodes have dropped on, you know, wherever you get
your podcast. So if you want to kind of go
down memory lane talk about Blues Clues all that kind
of stuff, there you go, there you go.
Speaker 3 (59:28):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (59:29):
I never was a Blues Clues. It was after my childhood.
After my childhood.
Speaker 3 (59:36):
There's some weird It was early in late nineties, early
two thousands.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
It was after Barney, right, the Purple Dinosaur.
Speaker 3 (59:43):
Yeah, Barney was still on, but.
Speaker 2 (59:47):
You know, Blues Cuoz kind of took it over.
Speaker 3 (59:50):
No, they just they were on two different networks. Barney
was like on PBS and Blues Clues was on Nickelodeon.
Speaker 2 (59:57):
Oh oh so and you had to Walk.
Speaker 3 (01:00:01):
Oh yeah, that and the Wiggles and the Teletubbies and oh.
Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
The Teletubbies were creepy there, I did.
Speaker 3 (01:00:12):
That's an understatement.
Speaker 2 (01:00:13):
The Baby's Head in the sun, and yeah, i'd.
Speaker 3 (01:00:17):
Never you know. You know, I'm a music guy. So
Pink Floyd's album from nineteen seventy three to the Dark
Side of.
Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
The Moon one of your favorites, No, I know.
Speaker 3 (01:00:28):
It holds the record for the most weeks on the
Billboard two hundred chart, at nine hundred and ninety weeks.
It was on.
Speaker 2 (01:00:36):
Weeks.
Speaker 3 (01:00:36):
Yeah. Wow, Now that seems like it might be an
unbreakable record, kind of like a cal Ripken, you know,
consecutive game straight but five albums released more than thirty
years ago. They may have a shot. Fleetwood Max Rumors,
which is from the I think seventy seven. If I'm
not mistaken, it is still in the top thirty albums
(01:00:57):
of all time. I mean, it's still on the chart,
in the top thirty, and it's in its six hundred
and fifty week, six hundred and fiftieth week on the chart.
Metallica's nineteen ninety one self titled album has spent eight
hundred five weeks on the chart. Never Mind by Nirvana
has been on there for seven hundred and thirty nine weeks,
and Thriller by Michael Jackson is just five weeks away
(01:01:18):
from seven hundred, but the album that might have the
best chance of breaking dark Side record. It's the greatest
hits album. This week marks the nine hundred and four
weeks on the Billboard two hundred for Legend the Best
of Bob Marley and the Whalers, so nine to ninety
and Bob Marley's at nine oh four, so another eighty
(01:01:40):
six weeks.
Speaker 2 (01:01:41):
It's tied nine hundred and ninety weeks, okay, divided by
fifty two fifty two weeks in a year, right, Yeah, Yeah,
nineteen years it's been in the in the talk. That's
it's pretty impressive.
Speaker 3 (01:02:01):
Well, Dark Side of the Moon is I don't think
it's in the top two hundred anymore. I think it
finally fell out.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
Yeah, but to even hit that, yeah, nineteen years mark
is pretty well.
Speaker 3 (01:02:09):
The fact that Fleetwood Maxit Rumors is still that's in
the top thirty out of two hundred, and that's an
album from the seventies. It might be one of the
it might be the best album ball.
Speaker 2 (01:02:21):
Oh, it's an amazing album.
Speaker 3 (01:02:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
So yeah, eight forty five you're listening to the bloom
Daddy Experience Otis and Sam News Radio, eleven seventy WWVA.
Welcome back, It's eight fifty The bloom Daddy Experience, samon
Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Calling from his land
(01:02:44):
ship are Kevin Cook Draw Automotive.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
Good morning, Kevin, caught of a land ship. I have
no idea what that means a core. Listen, she was sniffing.
She was sniffing glue before she came into work today. Yes, again,
(01:03:10):
So what's going on buddy? Uh hate you know today
she was trying to be a pirate there since it's
nationals talked like a pirate day. But our question, the
question for the day is, you know, the National Toy Museum,
they have got their finalists up for this year's induction
for the Hall of Fame. As a kid, what was
your go to toy that probably stood the test of time?
Speaker 10 (01:03:34):
I stood the time?
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
Yep, yeah, just I mean like you just it was
it would still hold up today, Let's put it that way. Nice,
that's a good one. You No, you can't break stretch,
that's for sure. So so what are the good deals
today at the Straw Automotive, oh Man.
Speaker 6 (01:04:03):
Right here in the jeep light inner.
Speaker 5 (01:04:04):
Landship that there you go.
Speaker 6 (01:04:07):
Yeah, you know, I've got a great selection of jeeps
right now.
Speaker 10 (01:04:11):
Wranglers, We've got thirty ninety.
Speaker 6 (01:04:13):
Two's in stock. In two those in stock.
Speaker 5 (01:04:16):
One of them is in that.
Speaker 6 (01:04:17):
Have you seen the forty one color?
Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
I saw one that was on your Facebook page. It
was kind of like it wasn't really all of but
it was like an off green.
Speaker 6 (01:04:27):
Yeah, it's kind of the it's kind of the Army green,
but it's not.
Speaker 10 (01:04:32):
We've got the bods wheels.
Speaker 6 (01:04:34):
We've got the big born winning chump Bot, the forty
two in an engine. I mean, this day D eight
is an halfbsolute beast. Okay, if you haven't had the
off Dunes to check out, I mean, and that is
the jeep of all jeans right there. I wish they
would put that package in a light air.
Speaker 10 (01:04:56):
Hopefully they will next year. I don't if they will not.
Speaker 6 (01:04:58):
You know, that's just kind of a okay, I would
have been love that there.
Speaker 3 (01:05:03):
It's just like your hope.
Speaker 6 (01:05:06):
Yeah, if I was gonna.
Speaker 10 (01:05:07):
Build the old Gladiator, that's what it means. Grenoty fob
recon real package. When you get this to get think
they're thirty five or thirty sevens in order. Uh, I
mean they're seeing this, you know while going to a
dry straw dot com check it out, you also check
out all this got a great section to Louie Swoop
because Sahara's like before by e you have got those
(01:05:31):
in the sock as twelve. So no matter what jeems.
Speaker 6 (01:05:34):
Bangor gladiator, you know, all broad see what that you're
looking for. We got a great sweat and get stock
and he said, and steak.
Speaker 4 (01:05:42):
Kind of rang.
Speaker 3 (01:05:42):
Now all right, buddy, right, have a great you do
you saying we'll talk on Monday? I don't think he
was thrilled to the r There any good deals?
Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
Well you've never heard the term landship? Have you not
watched the show Ghosts?
Speaker 5 (01:05:59):
No?
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
Okay, anyways, all right, we're having fun this morning. Toys,
you are I'm having a ball. Listen, all right, So
back to toys on our text line seven zero four
seven zero. We got one that says my daughter always
liked rainbow bright. I still have a rainbow bright doll.
I remember myself having a chatty Kathy, and my grandfather
(01:06:23):
always thought she looked like me. My mother got a
chatty Cathy. She will tell you this story over and
over again. She had it for about two hours until
her three older brothers wanted to figure out how the
doll talked, and they took it apart and destroyed her
Chatty Kathy. She ever hears the name Kathy, a tear
comes to her eye. It just broke her heart. She
(01:06:45):
had three older brothers. She was the only girl. She
got bullied all the time. Anyways, then also the yeer
on our text line, the green what about the green machine?
Way better than the big wheel?
Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
I don't remember the I remember the green machine. I
never had. I wanted one, I never got one. And
it was kind of like it was a big wheel,
but you didn't steer it with You had handles that
steered and so they went back and forth. So if
you pulled it back and push you like if you
push the left side up, it would go right or
you know, I don't know which way. But anyway, I
don't think the meme machine was better than the big wheel.
Speaker 2 (01:07:16):
Was it more like more advanced.
Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
Like yeah, it was supposed to be. It was more
it had like a like an erector set feel the
way that was set up.
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
You're scientific.
Speaker 3 (01:07:28):
You could probably google green machine and see one.
Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
Oh yeah, I could do that. That's what.
Speaker 3 (01:07:31):
Since you're sitting in front of a computer, that's.
Speaker 2 (01:07:33):
What one of these little fancy fancy dancy things here?
Can I can I read what Mike sent us an email?
Speaker 3 (01:07:38):
Yeah, okay, you got it in front of you.
Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
Well, I don't want to get in trouble oh.
Speaker 3 (01:07:43):
On that one. Okay, yeah, I think you can?
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
You think? Okay? It says my favorite Toy was made
famous by Sam Bartholomele, a famous New Orleans singer, along
with of course everybody knows the name Chuck Berry in
nineteen seventy two. The song was my dingling it's favorite toy,
my best pirates, my best pirates, saying is our sell
the team Bob. That's that's uh. I'm sure there's many
(01:08:09):
people out there that agree that could agree with that.
And then he has a joke, why are pirates called
pirates because they are but a bunch nothing.
Speaker 3 (01:08:21):
I'm glad you read those.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
Come on, GT me, some slack. I wrote this down
for toys. Technically, I guess you wouldn't say it was
a toy, But everybody did this and had fun with it.
You built forge, you built uh not treehouses. But you know,
(01:08:46):
fun big cardboard box. If your parents ever got a
new refrigerator or a washer and dryer, the huge boxes
they would come in.
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
Or back in the day at tea TV.
Speaker 2 (01:08:58):
Yep, I mean the cheapest toy your parents could ever
buy you. But honest to god, you put a toy
in front of a box in front of a kid today,
they'll still play with it.
Speaker 9 (01:09:13):
They'll draw all over.
Speaker 2 (01:09:14):
It, they'll make it into something stands the test well, physically,
doesn't stand the test of time. But you know everybody
has fun with it.
Speaker 3 (01:09:22):
Like a cat. Cats love boxes.
Speaker 2 (01:09:26):
Oh yeah, yeah, I don't like cats.
Speaker 3 (01:09:29):
I don't either.
Speaker 2 (01:09:30):
I can't stand cats. I'm sorry. Cat lovers out there,
they just those eyes. They look at you and they
they don't like you. They'll come out of nowhere. Hate cats.
Don't like cats, don't like cats. I had to do
it one more time on this Friday, just a reminder,
(01:09:51):
happening Sunday at two o'clock right here on WWVA, we
will be carrying live under uninterrupted coverage of the service
for Charlie Kurr. That's happening at two o'clock on Sunday.
All right, we have one more chance to win. Come on,
we got a minute and a half left. Give me
a pirate you have.
Speaker 3 (01:10:10):
Like I already did one no, yeah no.
Speaker 2 (01:10:15):
Yeah see. You get a deeper voice. Your voice is
man a men man's voices. I hope, so my voice
doesn't go that deep. All right, let's do it. Let's
end this on a win. One eight hundred sixty two
four eleven seventy for your chance to win, John Clease
(01:10:35):
one eight hundred six to four eleven seventy. Let's do
Caller number fourteen, Caller number fourteen, one hundred six to
four eleven seventy. Have a great weekend, everybody. We'll be
back on Monday.
