Speaker 1 (00:01):
D number one Tuch show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain, and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
The bloom Daddy Experience.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
It's seven oh six on news Radio eleven seventy.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Good Thursday morning to you. And as I kick off.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
This show, I have baseball on my mind because I've
been living it and breathing it, breathing it for the
past two days, and today will be no different. I mean,
ten hour days of progressive field. I'm not complaining, trust me,
it's not work. But I saw a stat last night
that was truly astonishing. The padres Mason Miller threw a

(00:48):
pitch last night clocked at one hundred and four point
five miles per hour.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
One oh four point five miles per hour.

Speaker 3 (00:59):
I can't even fathom standing sixty feet six inches away
from that. Actually even closer, because by the time he
releases it, it's a lot closer than sixty feet six inches.
When I look at pitching today, I never thought we
would get to a place where the human body would

(01:19):
be throwing a baseball at one hundred and four point
five miles per hour. But when you take a look
at pitchers, I think, I think you can see exactly
why we are where we are. First of all, training
and all the weighted ball stuff. It destroys arms, but
it makes them stronger than ever. Most of these guys
who throw that hard are going to end up having

(01:41):
Tommy John surgery if they haven't already. There's no way
that a human being can do that with an unnatural
position as it is, and not suffer an injury. But
just take a look at pictures this day, these days,
and this is what I'm trying.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
To tell you. The size of them.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Go back to the sixties, the seventies, the eighties, the nineties,
pitchers weren't six five, two hundred and forty pounds. Now
almost every one of them has that kind of size.
I mean, you go back to the sixties, seventies, eighties, nineties,
most pitchers, if you take Roger Clemens out of the mix,

(02:24):
five ten five to eleven six' one. SLENDER i, mean
Think Ron, Gidrey Think Bob, Feller Think Sandy, kofax Think Greg,
maddox think some of those. Guys but as baseball has,
progressed the size of the pitcher has changed. Dramatically, now

(02:46):
all of a, sudden guys who in the, sixties, seventies,
eighties and nineties who used to play third, base first,
base or right field are now on the pitcher's.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
MOUND i, mean think about.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
It if you were six four to two hundred pounds
back in the, day you were playing, third you were playing,
first or you were in right. Field Dave, parker prime.
Example Dave parker today is a. Pitcher Dave parker pre
two thousand would have been a position player without a.
Doubt but now you've got these guys that are six

(03:19):
three to six, six two hundred and ten pounds to
two hundred and fifty pounds chuck in a baseball at
speeds that we never thought were humanly. Possible and what
has happened is the Average Major league faseball fastball has
gone from about ninety two miles an hour to about
ninety five miles an hour in the blink of an.
Eye and the difference between ninety two and ninety five

(03:40):
is the difference between running a four to four to
forty yard dash and a four to seven forty yard.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Dash it is. Significant.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
Significant so WHEN i saw one oh four point five
the other, Day i'm, like you've got to be kidding.
Me where is the ceiling to all? THIS i would
have to think that is? IT i, mean that's just
an unbelievable. MARK i remember back WHEN i. Played if
you face somebody throwing high eighties to low, nineties they

(04:15):
were like in albino. Unicorn you just didn't see. That
you never saw. That and that was the top tier that,
was that was the top.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Level you go.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Back to the eighties early, nineties average major league FASTBALL
i believe was eighty nine to ninety one miles an. Hour,
now all of a, sudden we're at ninety. Five pretty,
soon we're gonna be at ninety six ninety seven as
far as the average. Goes and pitching is dominated Major
league baseball to the point Where i'll be quite honest with,
you it's boring to. WATCH i want to watch. BALL

(04:48):
i want to watch balls get put in. PLAY i
want to watch guys have competitive at. Bats the problem
is you've got pitchers now who are so big and
throw so hard that it's cut down on. Contact and
and you couple that with the mentality OF i don't
care IF i strike out.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
ANYMORE i just.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
Want to hit a home run or go sit on the,
bench and you have boring. Baseball you have in my,
book terrible. Baseball take a look at That guardians game,
yesterday big win over The Detroit. Tigers entering the eighth,
inning The Detroit tigers were one for eleven with runners
in scoring. Position you know what The guardians, were oh For,

(05:27):
oh they didn't have one guy in scoring position until
the eighth. Inning, now, thankfully they came alive in the
eighth inning with four. Hits they had six previous hits
in the sixteen previous innings In games one and, two
and had four in the eighth. Inning and a lot

(05:49):
of it has to do with the fact that the
mentality of hitting has. Changed now there's no shame in striking.
Out now It's i'm gonna go up there and swing
for the. Fence i'm gonna go sit.

Speaker 2 (05:57):
DOWN i don't. Care single double doesn't matter to.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Me you couple that, mentality which is a terrible, mentality
with the fact that these guys are throwing harder than
ever and you've got what you've got right, now and
that is a lot of boring. Baseball that's the major
league baseball average of about two forty. Three once, again
let's go back in the. Day if you hit two forty,

(06:20):
three you're probably on your way to the minor leagues
the next, day if not the next, day within the next.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Week now that's the major league.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
Average you've got guys starting In Major league baseball hitting
one ninety one eighty. Five never in my life DID
i think THAT i would see something like. This so
there's two things going on right now In Major League
baseball THAT i never THOUGHT i would.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
See pitchers throwing.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
At a speed that is incomprehensible to, me and guys
in The major leagues starting for major league teams hitting
below two. Hundred never thought my LIFE i would ever see.
It and to, me the game THAT i grew up,
loving the game that the game THAT i grew up infatuated,

(07:10):
with is a game, that quite, honestly IF i didn't
have to cover it from my, JOB i don't know
If i'd even Watch The Bloom Daddy show eleven SEVENTY
wwva returns right after This.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Welcome back seven. Eighteen you're listening to The Blue daddy
Experience sam And Otis News radio eleven seventy Wwva otis

Speaker 5 (07:51):
Up you don't even drink, IT.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
I, know but it's just the. Smell it kind of gets,
me you, know gets me. Going how are things doing?

Speaker 5 (08:00):
Morning that morning wake up?

Speaker 4 (08:01):

Speaker 5 (08:12):
Me i'm like sitting through your sixteen hours of. Training,
oh oh, Good And i'll just leave it at.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
That, yeah that's one THING i was terrible about in. College,
man if you were going to stand in front of
a classroom and just talk for hours on, end you lost.
Me i'm a hands on, learner LIKE i have to
somehow be. INVOLVED i completely zone out and turn into a.
Zombie SO i feel your. PAIN i know exactly what

(08:38):
you're talking.

Speaker 5 (08:38):
About, well and then some of the stuff doesn't apply to,
You so you, know that's even more reasons of thing.

Speaker 4 (08:46):

in the, show so stay a, tuned stay tuned for
that queue to call in that's coming. Up let's get
into a couple a real, quick a couple of local
things real. Quick first of, all yesterday the big topic
of conversation was the government shut. Down still shut, down

(09:53):
by the, way but it is impacting some folks here
in The Ohio. Valley the federal government shutdown is having
a major impact on local residents thousands of federal employees
live right here in the. Valley most of the workers
ARE tsa, agents border patrol, agents and federal court. Staff
many of the employees are required to work because they

(10:15):
are considered. Essential REMEMBER i made, that uh uh made
those differences yesterday with With, Medicare medicaid and. Security the
employees won't be paid during the, shutdown, though so there's
where it differs a little. Bit so you, know let's
not let's not be CAUs go, Ahead i'm.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Sorry here's the.

Speaker 5 (10:37):
Thing if they do, work, okay and they're not getting,
paid they still keep track of their hours and eventually
they will get paid for what they've.

Speaker 4 (10:45):
Done, okay, good, good, right good clarification. There, yeah that
is a, little, uh a little misleading in this. Story but,
yeah and let's let's, remember let's not be. Callous these
are friends and neighbors that are going through, this you,
know no matter what side of the aisle or who
you agree with or who you disagree, with let's not.
Forget this is their, jobs. Folks so we've we've got

(11:07):
to keep, that keep that in. Mind Bloom daddy talked about.
Baseball congrats to The guardian fans out There guardians came
back one, yesterday.

Speaker 5 (11:19):
So forced to game?

Speaker 4 (11:21):
Three which is which? Is and it will be? Home
AM i? Correct?

Speaker 5 (11:26):
Insane for the for the for the Wild card. Round
whoever has been the home king stayed the home kaing
for all three.

Speaker 4 (11:33):
Games, okay, okay sorry about that. Confusion only one team
has completed a two game sweep of their opponent in
the wild Wild Card. Series The dodgers are, advancing and
after taking down The reds eight to four In game,
Two Mookie bats had four hits and three RBIs to

(11:55):
HELP la advance to take on The. Phillies Will karen be?
THERE i don't. Know there's a Great halloween she's Been,
oh that's, sorry she's been. Banned there's a Great halloween
costume for you. Though let's see here the that will
begin On. Saturday The National league other wild card, Series
Manny machado and The padres shut out The cobs three

(12:19):
to oh to force a game three In. Chicago in
The American, League Aaron judge and The New York yankees
kept their season alive with a four to three victory
over The Red sox in The Bronx, Elsewhere Bo naylor
and The guardians toppled The Al central Rival Detroit tigers
six to, one AS i, mentioned to force a win
or go home contest happening. Today what time? Today do

(12:42):
we know that?

Speaker 5 (12:43):
YET i don't HAVE i can tell you. That i'm
on my.

Speaker 4 (12:46):
Phone, yeah hold, On i'm looking, Now i'm looking.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
AT i have the, app the schedules and the. Scores
so h three. O'CLOCK i, mean if you're really think
if you saw any of the, GAMES i don't know
if you saw. THEM i saw the end of the
The guardians, game and you, know they were close. Games Obviously,
CLEVELAND i believe it was in the eighth inning you
scored five, runs you, know but for the most, part

(13:12):
for the majority of the, game it was a one
one game and The yankees And Red sox run back and,
Forth cubs And. Padres was a pretty close game going,
in and you, KNOW i mean they were they were
all pretty good. GAMES i, mean The dodgers beat The
reds pretty. Handily but you, know out of four, series
you're getting your mommy's bark at a three of.

Speaker 4 (13:33):
Them and The guardians game is today at three oh,
eight not three. O'CLOCK. Threeh, YEAH i.

Speaker 5 (13:39):
Think EVERYTHING i think since since The dodgers, WON i
think everybody got moved back at.

Speaker 4 (13:44):
Timeslot oh, okay, yeah so the The Detroit cleveland game
is at three o'clock. Today one other thing, nationally if
you recognize this, name lost an amazing, scientist, researcher friend of,
Animals Jane. Goodall, she of, course if you don't recognize that,

(14:04):
name was the world's leading chimpanzee research and she's been
a subject Of i've watched many of, them forty different.
Documentaries she passed away yesterday at the age of ninety,
one ninety one years. Old The Jane Goodall institute confirmed her,
death but she did pass away of natural causes ninety

(14:27):
one years, old so big. Loss her work was featured
in The emmy winning series which was in twenty. Seventeen
it was Titled, jane Titled. Jane what she did for
the chimpanzees amazing and if you ever watched anything that she,
did any of her interactions with, them it just made

(14:48):
you want to interact with that species and how HUMANISTIC
i don't even know if that's the right, term or
if that's even a, word but how close to human
that they actually. Are she brought that to the. Forefront
so we lost her yesterday at the age of ninety,
one and then otis have you looked Into Bad bunny?

(15:10):
Anymore after he was, announced we were both kind of,
like who is this? Person never heard of? Him we're
showing our, age, basically is what we did On. Monday
we showed our age of not knowing WHAT i have
heard of.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
Him i've just NEVER i don't Think i've heard any
of his.

Speaker 4 (15:25):
Music well me, neither you.

Speaker 5 (15:28):
KNOW i, Mean i've seen the name out there and,
whatever read it in articles and then you know kind
of those news articles that we get every day that you,
know sometimes we look at him and we go it
doesn't relate to our, audience so we're not going to use.
It And Bad bunny has fallen into a handful of those.
Stories so that's HOW i know your.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Name, AH i got. You, well The trump administration is
getting involved with the Super. Bowl they will deploy ice
agents to the Super bowl during the halftime. Performance interesting
according To Corey, lewandowski Former trump campaign manager and current

(16:06):
informal advisor to The Homeland Secretary Security Secretary Christy. Nome
he Said wednesday that On The Benny show that there
is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who
are in this country, illegally not the Super, bowl Super,
bowl and nowhere. Else he called it shameful that THE

(16:27):
nfl chose someone who seems to Hate america so much
to perform at the halftime. Show he in regard to
speaking Of Bad, bunny he previously expressed concerns About ICE's
presence at his, concerts stating At september there are many
reasons WHY i didn't show up in THE, us including

(16:49):
worries that Blank ice agents could be. Outside he's an
Anti ice. Activist he massively Hates. Trump but let's be,
honest THE nfl is going to pander to a particular
particular side of the, aisle and they're doing it once
again With Bad. Bunny and he loves to wear dresses,

(17:13):
Too so there's another little thing About Bad. Bunny look him.
Up those are the PICTURES i found seven twenty. Eight
you're listening to the Bloom Daddy. Experience sam And Otis
News radio eleven SEVENTY.

Speaker 6 (17:23):
Wwva welcome back to the show on Your thursday.

Speaker 3 (17:34):
MORNING i think now is a good time Since otis
is out and, about BECAUSE i don't want to make him,
jealous even THOUGH i Like otis to sit here and
talk about my Girl sam a little, bit Because i'm
very proud of what she has become on this radio
station and how ingrained in The Ohio. Valley she truly, is,
because as you, know if you listen to me for,

(17:55):
years if somebody farted in the, VALLEY i knew what,
TIME i, knew how many TOOTS i.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
KNEW i, MEAN i knew.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
Everything BECAUSE i just knew, everybody AND i had a
lot of great. Sources now That i've been In cleveland
for over three, years obviously those sources is, waned And
i'm not as in tune with what is going on
in The Ohio valley AS i used to. Be she, is,
though And i'm very proud of her.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
For doing, that AND i want to let you know.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
THAT i, mean you're listening to somebody who is out
about in the community all the, time involved with more
in The Ohio valley than any radio host in this
Entire Ohio.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Valley by. Far sam is involved with.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
More she knows more, people she's in touch with more,
people and she has better sources than any of the
other numb nuts on radio in The valley including, Well
i'm not even gonna say, it very proud out of
what she's. Done i'm very proud on what she continues

(19:04):
to want to. DO i, mean you listen to somebody
every morning who wants to get, better who wants to
know what's going, on who wants.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
To fight for.

Speaker 3 (19:14):
You and that's what talk radio is all, about providing
you with a voice even though you're not the one
on the. Radio And sam has become. That AND i
can tell you this that she puts a lot of
time into. It and look here At. iHeartMedia she wears multiple,
hats not only on air, talent but also in sales

(19:35):
also pretty much running the. PLACE i, mean this girl
does a, lot and she does it very very.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
Well so the Reason i'm telling you.

Speaker 3 (19:43):
This is BECAUSE i want you to appreciate what you've.
Got when you take a look at the landscape of
radio across the, country it's, dwindling a, lot a lot of,
cutbacks a lot.

Speaker 2 (19:54):
Of people being let.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Go and when you take a look specifically here in
The Ohio, valley And i'm not saying this to be
A Richard head in any stretch of the, imagination but
the talent that you have here in the valley is.
Abysmal let me say that. Again it's abysmal because the
people that you, have specifically Talk radio Minus, sam here

(20:20):
in the, valley they have no idea what they're, doing
they don't have good, sources and they want to sit
there and be blowhards and tell you how great they,
are when in, reality people aren't. Stupid they see right through.
It she does none of. That sam does none of.
That all she does is put her nose to the

(20:40):
grindstone and try to get out there and be a
voice for, you whether It's East Ohio Regional hospital or
any other thing that may.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
Be going on in the.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Valley she wants to be on top of, it and
she calls me all the time wanting to, know, hey.

Speaker 2 (20:55):
How DO i do? This how DO i do? That
and most of the TIME i don't need to tell.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
Her i'll, say, well tell me what you, think and
she already knows the right path to go. Down this
is not an easy, job and it's not an easy
job for somebody Like, sam Because sam is a very
very good, person as a matter of, fact one of
the best People i've ever met in my. Life and
in order to do this. Job you gotta have a

(21:19):
little how DO i say, it a little jackass in.
You you Gotta i'll put it to you this. WAY
i FELT i got very good at this job WHEN i.
Quit karen what people. Think and this is one of
the toughest things For. Sam And i've told her this countless.
Times you're gonna lose friends over this. Job you're gonna have,

(21:43):
sleepless sleepless nights over this. Job everybody in the valley
knows each. Other she knows, THAT i know that everybody's.
Related but if you do the job, right you can
rest your head on that pillow and go to sleep
and sleep, soundly even though you know that some people
might not like you a whole. Lot and that's been

(22:05):
tough for. Her And i'm probably throwing some stuff out
there THAT i. Shouldn't she's probably gonna get mad at.
Me but it's been very tough for her because she's such.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
A good human.

Speaker 3 (22:15):
Being she doesn't want anybody mad at. Her she doesn't
want to disappoint. Anybody And i've told her countless, times
you're too good of a human being to do this,
job WHICH i guess is indicting me in a way
as being a bad human, being AND i like to
think That i'm. Not BUT i think you get the
gist of What i'm. Saying the flip, side OR i should,

(22:35):
say the other side of This. Otis i've Known otis
for a long. Time he's another person that wants to
do right by. You he wants to come out, here
he wants to bring you a good, product he wants
to entertain. You and quite, HONESTLY i think this tandem
that you have here in the morning is something you should.
Cherish it's something you should value because you're not going

(22:55):
to get it anywhere. Else you've got two good human
beings who want to do the right thing and who
love This Ohio valley as much AS i still do
and as much AS i used. To so without getting too,
corny without getting too, SOFT i don't want to have
to turn in my man.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Card i'm just telling you.

Speaker 3 (23:17):
Appreciate what you have here on this show With sam And,
otis because they're putting in the, time they're putting in the.
Work the effort is always, there and they're just trying
to do what is right by The Ohio. Valley AND
i can tell you this BECAUSE i know. This the
other guy's doing, it they're not doing it for the right.

(23:39):
Reason and when it comes to, character, bankrupt absolutely. Bankrupt all, Right,
sam you can send the check in the mail for
all those kind.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Words just address it to Bloom.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Daddy back with more on Your Thursday, morning eleven SEVENTY
wwva right after, This.

Speaker 4 (24:00):
Yes welcome, back seven forty. Eight you're listening to the
Bloem Daddy. Experience sam And Otis News radio eleven SEVENTY.
WWVA i got My ray hand otis out on the,
road but he's still with us this. Morning we. Gotcha, yeah, okay.

(24:21):
Okay SO i wanted to bring something. Up something was
brought to my attention thanks to Listener Dan lord did
this to me on Our facebook, page So. OTIS i
don't know if you Remember, MONDAY i talked about a.
Show yeah that was four days ago, now BUT i

(24:41):
talked about a show THAT i watched over the weekend
On netflix Called, wayward AND i talked about how there
was a particular character on. There it was a girl
who's now a, guy and they have these, shirtless you,
know sex, scenes and it was blatantly obvious that this
was a female pretend can be a guy was bad
the whole, thing but THEN i went into how the

(25:03):
indoctrination and this and. That, well Listener dan alerted me
and sent us information on a cartoon On. Netflix now
the the title of this cartoon Is Dead End Paranormal.
Park SO i watched the first two. EPISODES i can't

(25:25):
tell you the last Time i've watched a. Cartoon now
when you when now otis you don't Have. Netflix SO
i just want to explain to. You when you go
to one of their, shows there are ratings and then
also it mentions the. Genre, okay so this is, okay,
Okay so it's RATED TV y, seven which means rated

(25:51):
for seven year olds and. Up and then the genre
is KIDS tv slash. Cartoons, okay no parental. Warnings know
nothing about what is in this particular. Show, well there
is a. Character the character's name Is. Barney, now for
people of my generation and, older you Hear, barney you

(26:13):
think of the purple. Dinosaur, nope that's not. This barney
is a female who has converted to. Male in the second,
Episode barney comes out and tells his little her little female.

Speaker 5 (26:32):
Friend.

Speaker 4 (26:34):
Fine this goes back to same thing with the show
THAT i watched last. Weekend in, doctrination that's what this.
Is that's what this. Is but this time, around it's
targeted to our. Kids AS i, said there is no.
Warning it is labeled for safe for seven years in

(26:58):
older and there is no alert and there is no,
alert alerting or warning to. Parents this is how they
sneak that ideology into the minds of our younger. People
otis listen to these, Facts listen to these These this
growth from twenty fourteen to twenty twenty, three trans identifying

(27:23):
adults has jumped sixty eight percent an adults sixty eight percent.
Jump from the ages of eighteen to twenty four it
has jumped four hundred and twenty two. Percent now there
are those out there that argue and say that this

(27:46):
is not a social, thing that they're not you, know
there is no indoctrination that this isn't a cultural. Thing
that it's accepted more, now so people now feel more
safe to come out and live this. WAY i beg to.
DIFFER i beg to differ when you see things like,

(28:06):
this these two examples when it comes to, television of,
course we are being. There that is how they force
it to be. Acceptable through. Culture, okay please, do please.

Speaker 5 (28:22):
Do so what is the warning that you want them
to put on the cartoon.

Speaker 4 (28:29):
That there is adult? Content i'm, sorry that is adult.
Content seven year olds should not have to look at
a cartoon character and then have to turn around to
mommy and, say what is a trans there's?

Speaker 5 (28:44):
Seven, okay we don't see it a lot around our.
Area but what if you were in a big city
and somebody once if your kid was out and about
and just happens, Again i'm paying doubles everything right and
says mommy that that woman looks like a man in a.
Dress how are you Gonna are you gonna explain it or?

Speaker 4 (29:06):
NOT i don't. Know maybe that's WHY i don't have.
CHILDREN i don't know that THAT'S.

Speaker 5 (29:13):
I, Mean i'm JUST i, MEAN i get. It you
have to be careful on the warning that you put
on because what do you what are you warning people
have a? LIFESTYLE i don't know if you can do.

Speaker 4 (29:22):
That, okay point well, taken AND i get. IT i get.

Speaker 5 (29:27):
IT i JUST i, mean that's that's in my, Mind
that's How i'm looking at. IT i JUST i think
you'd run into all kinds of lawsuits and everything. Else
if you tried to put a label on it as
adult content or something of that, NATURE.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
I.

Speaker 5 (29:40):
DON'T i. DON'T i don't agree with it by any,
Means BUT i JUST i think you have to be
careful on what you how you labeled before you get.

Speaker 4 (29:49):
Sued, NO I I i. DIDN'T i didn't look at
it that from from that. Angle but BUT i agree with.
YOU i agree with. YOU i think it's just we've
GOT i think it's real least sad that we've gotten
to the point where this type of, content content is
being put into our children's. Entertainment this is NOT i,

(30:10):
MEAN i don't. Know maybe people are going to Say
i'm old, school and maybe people are going to say
That i'm too conservative or whatever the terminology are labeled
that you want to throw on. Me but, again this
is how they force it upon.

Speaker 5 (30:27):
WELL i think that's that's a huge part of. It
they do force it upon. Us but the other thing,
is you, KNOW i agree with some of those studies
that that that what you disagreed with by saying that
those people that are now more comfortable SAY i mean
out as trans that's why you're seeing an. INCREASE i

(30:48):
think of a lot of, it not especially in the adult.
WORLD i think it's a little more acceptable.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
Not to the.

Speaker 5 (30:54):
Children you. Know, NOW i think that you have adult
influences and things like, that and that can skew numbers
as you know as.

Speaker 4 (31:03):
Well, yeah, well AND i think that's where things like
this when it comes To, hollywood the entertainment, world social,
media when our kids are exposed to so much of
this adult subject, matter like this particular type of, lifestyle
then they're, Like, oh, yeah that's the cool, thing that's
what everybody's talking. About that's the cool thing to, do

(31:26):
the cool thing to. Be and they, said, well that's
WHAT i am, too not realizing and not being educated
upon what a long term if they go down that
route and have all the surgeries and allow the poison
put into their bodies for the pills that they take
and everything, else the long term consequences. UNFORTUNATELY i mean.

Speaker 5 (31:50):
Well AND i MEAN i don't think. THAT i MEAN
i think that there's parents out there that you, know
have a little, boy but you know the mom actually
really wondered a little, girl and for you years, old
you just start brainwashing your child that he's a. Girl.
YEAH i have a problem with.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
That, yeah oh, yeah. Absolutely there's a father out there
From california AND i can't of, course can't think of
his name right, now but he and his ex wife
they have been fighting for years at this point where
he's trying to save his little boy from physically being
altered by the mother who wants a, girl and they're stopping.

(32:28):
Him the legal system is stopping, him saying that he
doesn't have a.

Speaker 5 (32:31):
Run and remember where it, is It's.

Speaker 4 (32:33):
California oh, yeah there's that side of it. Too kind
of turning the page a little bit, here but along
the same, VEIN i want to give a congratulations to
the state Of. OREGON i never thought in a million
years THAT i was DOING i would do. This but
over the. Weekend if you don't know this, Name Chloe

(32:53):
spritz is a man pretending to be a woman in
the world of. Cycling well over the, Weekend chloe beat
out the second, person the actual female, athlete by six
minutes in what is called the single speed bike. Race
it almost looks like a cross country race the video
THAT i. Watched here's the best thing about. This this

(33:16):
guy comes riding in, pumps you, know pumping his. Fist
he's the big winner crossing the finish line, first you,
know expecting all of this. Admiration, nothing, Nothing not a
single person in that crowd, cheered. Celebrated there wasn't even
like a golf. Clap chloe didn't even get. This AND

(33:41):
i gotta say kudos To oregon and those that were
in that, crowd because when you think About, OREGON i,
mean it's predominantly a liberal. State AND i just, THOUGHT i,
thought good for those, people good for. Them, finally, finally
and here's a. Shocker, chloe who is Actually Cole, spragg a,
male was an absolute failure as a male. Cyclist there's a.

(34:05):
Shocker there's a. Shocker there you have, It, yes, yeah
there you have. It so to the people Of oregon
that were at that bike, race thank, you thank you
for the common sense reaction to the man once again
beating a woman in a woman's sport or category of a.

(34:27):
Sport seven fifty. Eight you're listening to the Bloom daddy.
Experience don't forget coming up free ice? Cream got a.
Register seven zero four seven zero is our text line
name and phone. Number that's all we. Need seven zero
four seven. Zero you're listening to the Bloom Daddy Experience
News radio eleven SEVENTY wwva.

Speaker 1 (34:48):
Ze number one talk show in The Ohio. Valley this
is the Bloom Daddy. Experience your host Bloom. Daddy his goal, inform,
entertain and tick people.

Speaker 2 (34:59):
Off the Bloom.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
Daddy experience on News radio ELEVEN seventybva starts.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
Now News radio eleven seventy gets The Blue Daddy. Experience,
hey it's eighth. Six let's get this hour. Rolling Good
thursday morning to. You and AS i kick off this,
SHOW i have baseball on my mind Because i've been
living it and breathing, it breathing it for the past two,
days and today will be no. DIFFERENT i, mean ten
hour days of progressive. Field i'm not, complaining trust, me

(35:29):
it's not. Work BUT i saw a stat last night
that was truly. Astonishing the Padres Mason miller threw a
pitch last night clocked at one hundred and four point
five miles per. Hour one oh four point five miles per.
HOUR i can't even fathom standing sixty feet six inches

(35:51):
away from. That actually even, closer because by the time
he releases, it it's a lot closer than sixty feet six.

Speaker 2 (35:58):
Inches WHEN i look at pitching.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
TODAY i never thought we would get to a place
where the human body would be throwing a baseball at
one hundred four point five miles per. Hour but when
you take a look at, PITCHERS i, THINK i think
you can see exactly why we are where we. Are
first of, all training and all the weighted ball. Stuff

(36:23):
it destroys, arms but it makes them stronger than. Ever
most of these guys who throw that hard are going
to end up Having Tommy john surgery if they haven't.
Already there's no way that a human being can do
that with an unnatural position as it, is and not
suffer an. Injury but just take a look at pictures this,

(36:45):
day these, days and this is What i'm trying to tell.

Speaker 2 (36:47):
You look at the size of.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
Them go back to the, sixties the, seventies the, eighties the,
nineties pitchers weren't six, five.

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Two hundred and forty.

Speaker 3 (36:58):
Pounds, now well almost every one of them has that
kind of. SIZE i, mean you go back to the, sixties, seventies, eighties,
nineties most, pitchers if you Take Roger clemens out of the,
mix five ten five eleven six'. ONE slender, i Mean Think,
ron Gidrey Think, Bob Feller Think, sandy Kofax Think, greg

(37:23):
maddox think some of.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
Those guys.

Speaker 3 (37:27):
But as baseball, has progressed the size of the pitcher has. Changed,
dramatically now all of, a sudden guys who in, the, sixties,
seventies eighties and nineties who used to play, third base,
first base or right field are now on the. PITCHER'S mound,
i mean think. About it if you were six four

(37:48):
to two hundred and thirty pounds back in, the day
you were, playing third you were, playing first or you
were in. Right Field, dave parker. Prime Example dave parker
today is. A Pitcher dave parker pre two thousand would
have been a position player without. A doubt but now
you've got these guys that are six three to, six

(38:09):
six two hundred and ten pounds to two hundred and
fifty pounds chuck in a baseball at speeds that we
never thought were. Humanly possible and what has happened is
The Average major league faseball fastball has gone from about
ninety two miles an hour to about ninety five miles
an hour in the blink of. An eye and the
difference between ninety two and ninety five is the difference

(38:30):
between running a.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
Four to four forty yard dash and a four to
seven forty. Yard dash it.

Speaker 5 (38:35):
Is.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
Significant significant SO when i saw one oh four point
five the, Other day, i'm like you've got to be.
Kidding me where is the ceiling to? ALL this i
would have to think that? IS it, i mean that's
just an. UNBELIEVABLE mark i remember BACK when. I played

(38:57):
if you face somebody throwing high eighties to, low nineties
they were like in. Albino unicorn you just didn't. See
that you never. Saw that and that was the top tier,
that was that was the. Top level you go back
to the eighties, early nineties average major LEAGUE fastball i

(39:19):
believe was eighty nine to ninety one miles.

Speaker 2 (39:21):
An, hour now all of, a sudden we're at.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
Ninety five pretty soon we're going to be at ninety
six ninety seven as far as the. Average goes and
pitching is dominated major league baseball to the Point where
i'll be quite honest, with you it's boring. TO watch
i want to. WATCH ball i want to watch balls
get put. IN play i want to watch guys have.
Competitive bats the problem is you've got pitchers now who

(39:43):
are so big and throw so hard that it's cut down.
On contact and then you couple that with the MENTALITY
of i don't CARE if i strike. OUT anymore i
just want to hit a home run or a go
sit on, the bench and you have. Boring baseball, you
have in, my book. Terrible baseball take a look At
that guardians, game yesterday big win Over The. Detroit tigers

(40:07):
entering the, eighth Inning The detroit tigers were one for
eleven with runners in. Scoring position you know What the,
guardians were Oh, for oh they didn't have one guy
in scoring position until the. Eighth, inning now thankfully they
came alive in the eighth inning with. Four hits they

(40:27):
had six previous hits in the sixteen previous Innings in
games one, and two and had four in the. Eighth
inning and a lot of it has to do with
the fact that the mentality of hitting. Has changed now
there's no shame in. Striking out Now it's i'm gonna
go up there and swing for. The fence i'm gonna go.

Speaker 2 (40:45):
SIT down i. Don't care single double ah doesn't matter.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
To me you couple, that mentality which is a, terrible
mentality with the fact that these guys are throwing harder,
than ever and you've got what you've got, right now
and that is a lot of. Boring baseball that's The
major league baseball average of about two. Forty three, once
again let's go back in. The day if you hit two,
forty three you're probably on your way to the minor

(41:12):
leagues the, next day if not the, next day within the.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Next week now that's the major.

Speaker 3 (41:17):
League average you've got guys Starting In major league baseball
hitting one ninety one.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Eighty five never in my LIFE.

Speaker 3 (41:28):
Did i THINK that i would see something. Like this
so there's two things going on right Now In Major
league BASEBALL that i NEVER thought i.

Speaker 2 (41:34):
Would see pitchers throwing.

Speaker 3 (41:38):
At a speed that is incomprehensible, to me and guys
in the major leagues starting for major league teams hitting below.
Two hundred never thought MY life i would ever. See
it and, to me the GAME that i grew, up
loving the game that the GAME that i grew up,
infatuated with is a, game that, quite HONESTLY if i

(42:03):
didn't have to cover it from, MY job i don't
Know if i'd Even watch The Bloom daddy show ELEVEN
seventy wwva returns right after this.

YOU doing i was gonna call, YOU iconic i, was gonna,
you KNOW but i didn't, want to, you know put
you on the spot or, embarrass you because you are
a lovely and, very humble. Humble man.

Speaker 7 (43:06):
Thank you my reputation.

Speaker 2 (43:07):
Exceeds me.

Speaker 4 (43:10):
So first, of all have you, in here because coming
up Coming up, october eleventh We have neil McCoy Returning
to wheeling At The, capitol theater but also on the ticket,
that night we have the iconic eleven, seventy band which
of course you are a, longtime, memory yes.

Speaker 7 (43:30):
Longtime. Member yes and we've got some new guys. This
year we've got Myself And, Ron Retzer denny Fitzpatrick Or
dennis craig if, you Prefer And john pirendo, on fiddle
and then we brought in the. Next generation we're Bringing
In alex peck, on drums Who was, jamie's Nephew And
mike penrich on, steel guitar Whose, father mick was a

(43:52):
steel guitar player locally back In The other, brothers days
which was the forerunner of the eleven.

Speaker 4 (43:58):
Seventy, band, okay okay, so okay let's do some musical
education here for myself and. Others listening when did the
eleven seventy? Band, start Well The.

Speaker 7 (44:11):
Other brothers started in, eighty three and that was a,
staff BAND and i think during membership changes we changed,
some guys added. SOME guys i think the Eleven seventy
band probably started in the, late.

Speaker 4 (44:23):
Eighties okay and then then you were the house Band, FOR, jambree, Usa, correct,
okay yes and then that Filtered into jambery And, the
hills and then we go down musical, History yes now
being a house Band FOR, Jambre usa what did that
entail entertaining the crowd or did you get the opportunity

(44:45):
to play with some of the iconic musicians that PLAYED.

Speaker 8 (44:49):
Jamber usa, oh yeah our first big show we played
the fiftieth, anniversary, show Okay And, Charlie Pride, Janie Fricky,
steve Warner And Billy krash kraddock were on.

Speaker 7 (44:59):
The show we, Backed them we worked up their tunes
because it was a it was.

Speaker 2 (45:04):
A fly date.

Speaker 4 (45:05):
For them they didn't need to bring.

Speaker 7 (45:06):
Their bands and it's funny because, Years Ago charlie pride
called me and offered me, a, job okay like in the,
mid SEVENTIES and i turned him DOWN because, i was,
you know eighteen years old and didn't want to Move
to dallas or. You know and later at THAT show
i asked him he. Remembered me, he, Said yeah you're
the only guy that ever turned me down for.

Speaker 2 (45:26):
A gig i, was, like wow.

Speaker 7 (45:28):
He remembered it, was.

Speaker 4 (45:29):
Amazing memorable maybe not for telling somebody like. THAT no,
i mean how do you Work up that's impressive to
being able to say no to Somebody Like. Charlie pride
have you did the eleven seventy band ever do any
of their? Own albums.

Speaker 7 (45:44):
We did we did, a cassette so that tells you
how long ago. That was and it was kind of
cover tunes and, you know songs who played on, the
show kind of, popular stuff, you know more popular.

Speaker 4 (45:58):
Country stuff who were some of the most interesting or
cool or entertaining musicians that you've you've gotten to know through.

Speaker 7 (46:06):
The years well as a guitar player getting to hang
Out With steve Warner And. Chad atkins, you know early
on in the, jamboree CAREER when i first came, down
here the Band backed ronnie millsap because back then It
was ronnie and, his drummer because he didn't have a,
band yet so we. Backed him and if you go

(46:27):
back to The early, jamburey days, early on it was
more of a Cast of jamboree regulars that you backed,
every week and it was, you know two two hour
shows with a, you know a two.

Speaker 2 (46:38):
Hour rehearsal that was a.

Speaker 4 (46:40):
Long, day well THERE'S a i was of course looking
up some stuff on you and and the band, and
everything and there's a video floating. Out there just recently
they came Out, In September, Brad, paisley yeah really really
complimentary and and for you and and everything that you,
Taught him and was? That surprising did you know that?

(47:02):
WAS coin i had.

Speaker 7 (47:03):
NO idea i had. No idea somebody called me, and,
said hey you got to check, this out and they
sent me the Link and, i'm. LIKE wow, I mean
i've seen him a few times over. The years we
saw him. LAST summer i had a friend, Of Mine,
don dixon who was a former staff band member who
invented the echo plex and That's What joe Walsh And
jimmy page all. Used one so my WIFE and I

(47:23):
took don and his wife to dinner Up In canal
Fulton and brad was playing Over At clays Park Their
Friday nashville, knight's THING and I, told don who was,
NINETY three, i, SAID hey i got a buddy of
mine playing down. The road we're going to go hear and, he, said,
okay cool and we pulled in right behind the buses
and we watched the show from. Side Stage but brad's
always been real nice. To, us yeah.

Speaker 4 (47:43):
That's awesome. That's awesome and with looking at, some stuff
one of THE things i read was that the eleven
seventy man was Featured On Wheeling, West, VIRGINIA jamber USA,
on wwva an Album By? Johnny cash is? That correct
or that?

Speaker 7 (48:02):
MAY be i think was that a?

Speaker 5 (48:04):
Live?

Speaker 4 (48:05):
Album, yes, YES yes.

Speaker 7 (48:09):
I Think zane baxter played with his band. That night
okay on RHYTHM guitar, i, Remember right but.

Speaker 4 (48:15):
What a connection for the band to, you know. He's
Iconic johnny.

Speaker 7 (48:20):
Cash his show here, one year He Had marty stewart
as his. Guitar, player wow, you know and his daughters were,
Singing Background, roseanne cash there was. Three girls they. Sang
background and you look back at some of those shows
and you just can't believe you.

Speaker 4 (48:35):
Were, there, well yeah THAT'S what i was going to
ask you for somebody of my age. And younger, you
know we hear, the stories we didn't get to experience.
It ourselves so can could you sort of explain what
those nights were like here At The capitol theater and
being a part of the band and looking out in
the crowd and how wheeling was such an impact and

(48:56):
is getting back to that point. On music just tell
us what it.

Speaker 7 (49:00):
Was, like oh some of, the shows, you Know Seeing
merle haggard And, the strangers and back in those days
as a, guitar player all those bands had great guitar
players who eventually became studio. Guitar players so, you know
for a, guitar player it was like a guitar lesson.
Every week BUT just i think you forget how iconic

(49:24):
and how good. THEY were, i mean because they were doing,
these shows, you know three hundred days, a year and
they were on, their game, you know and just, great players.
Great bands and YOU know i got to stand twenty
Feet From chad atkins and watch, the Show Or merle
haggard Or. The judgs we could stand in the wings
and watch, their show, you know from twenty, feet away

(49:47):
and that's an amazing thing.

Speaker 3 (49:49):
To.

Speaker 4 (49:49):
See yeah, sure again we're Talking To roger horde of
The the iconic eleven seventy band because they're going to
be performing with The iconic neil McCoy when he turns
Here to Wheeling on. October eleventh so what's that night
going to? Be like are you going to open? For
him are you playing? With him we're.

Speaker 7 (50:08):
Going to open, for him okay and try to get
the crowd riled up to the Point that neil decides
to climb around up on the stage and, you know
climb up from the balcony.

Speaker 4 (50:17):
And Hopefully the capital people. Aren't listening get that insurance.
Policy ready he used to climb the.

Speaker 7 (50:23):
Scaffolding again, oh yeah At, the hills, you know they,
finally said, hey man.

Speaker 2 (50:26):
You got to quit.

Speaker 4 (50:27):
Doing this it was always like is he? Going to
is he? Going to and then you'd see him and, he'd,
disappear like, oh wait. He's going he knew he's gonna make,
it happen and then, he says HOW can i?

Speaker 5 (50:36):
Get?

Speaker 4 (50:36):
Down, yeah well, you know best, laid plans they don't
always work out the way. You plan so again. That's happening,
October eleventh neil McCoy here At The capital theater and

(50:56):

here when did you pick up a guitar at? WHAT
age i was eleven.

Speaker 7 (51:02):
YEARS old i was inspired By Seeing elvis Presley On
The Ed sullivan SHOW when i was A Little, Little kid.

Speaker 4 (51:10):
And that was the iconic episode right. The hips THAT
episode i had an.

Speaker 7 (51:14):
Aunt TELL me i used to get my little guitar
and get up on the coffee table and shake my. Rear,
in luckily before the advent of, social media there's no
record of that anywhere as FAR as.

You've got when.

Speaker 3 (54:50):
You take a look at the landscape of radio across,
the country, it's dwindling, a lot a lot, of cutbacks
a lot of people being. Let go and when you
take a look specifically here In The. Ohio Valley and
i'm not saying this to Be A richard head in
any stretch of, the imagination but the talent that you
have here in the valley. Is abysmal let me say.

(55:14):
That again it's abysmal because the people that, you have
specifically talk Radio, minus sam here in, the valley they
have no idea what, they're doing they don't have, good
sources and they want to sit there and be blowhards
and tell you how great, they are when, in reality people.
Aren't stupid they see right. Through it she does none.

(55:37):
Of that sam does none. Of that all she does
is put her nose to the grindstone and try to
get out there and be a voice, for you Whether
It's East Ohio regional hospital or any other thing that
may be going on in. The valley she wants to
be on top. Of it and she calls me all
the time wanting, To, know hey HOW do i? Do

(55:58):
this HOW do i? Do that most of THE time
i don't need to. Tell her, i'll, say well tell
me what, you think and she already knows the right
path to. Go down this is not an, easy job
and it's not an easy job for Somebody, like Sam
because sam is, a very very, good person as a matter,
of fact one of the Best people i've.

Speaker 2 (56:16):
Ever met in.

Speaker 3 (56:17):
My life and in order to do, this job you
gotta have a little.

Speaker 2 (56:24):
HOW do i, say it a little jackass.

Speaker 3 (56:27):
In you You gotta i'll put it to you. THIS
way I felt i got very good at this JOB when.
I quit karen what. People think and this is one
of the toughest Things. For Sam and i've told her this.
Countless times you're gonna lose friends over. This job you're gonna,
have sleepless sleepless nights over. This job everybody in the

(56:48):
valley knows. Each other she, KNOWS that i know that.
Everybody's related but if you do the, job right you
can rest your head on that pillow and go to
sleep and. Sleep soundly even though you know that some
people might not like you a, whole lot and that's
been tough. For Her and i'm probably throwing some stuff

(57:11):
out THERE that. I shouldn't she's probably gonna get mad,
at me but it's been very tough for her because
she's such a good. Human being she doesn't want anybody mad.
At her she doesn't want to. Disappoint Anybody and i've
told her, countless times you're too good of a human
being to do, this JOB which i guess is indicting
me in a way as being a bad. Human BEING
and i like to Think that. I'm NOT but i

(57:32):
think you get the gist Of what. I'm saying the,
flip SIDE or i, should say the other side Of.
This otis I've known otis for a. Long time he's
another person that wants to do right. By you he
wants to come, out here he wants to bring you a,
good product he wants to. Entertain you and, QUITE honestly
i think this tandem that you have here in the

(57:53):
morning is something you. Should cherish it's something you should
value because you're not going to get it. Anywhere else
you've got too good human beings who want to do
the right thing and who Love This ohio valley as
MUCH as i still do and as MUCH as i.
Used to so without getting, too corny without getting, TOO
soft i don't want to have to turn in my.

Speaker 2 (58:14):
Man card i'm just telling you.

Speaker 3 (58:19):
Appreciate what you have here on this Show with Sam,
and otis because they're putting in, the time they're putting in,
the work the effort is, always there and they're just
trying to do what is right By The. Ohio VALLEY
and i can tell you THIS because i. Know this
the other guy's, doing it they're not doing it for the.

they move down. SOUTH permanently i love the four seasons
that we have here in. THE valley. I do i

enjoy having and being able to live through four different
seasons of. The, year now my allergies and everything else
don't agree, with.

ME but i think.

Speaker 4 (01:04:37):
IT'S beautiful i think this time of year is gorgeous
here in. Our area and and for a lot, of
folks they don't know what it's like to see the
leaves change and they can't. Appreciate, that so, you, know
unfortunately it's followed up by winter and snow, and cold
and you know. That's Miserable and I'm not i'm not.
Negating that but this time of year is a beautiful time.
Of year so go out and. Enjoy it drive around,

(01:04:59):
our area enjoy the four, you know all the different
colors that we we can look at here In The.
Ohio valley ONE thing i wanted to. Remind everybody i've
brought this to you yesterday.

florida doesn't say the state shoot, my apologies But The

(01:07:08):
DeKalb county Police Arrested kaylan Wattley in september. For theft
NOW when i, HEAR theft, I think i, don't know
somebody broke into a jewelry store or stole electronics something of,
you know high value to risk being caught and arrested

(01:07:32):
and charged with theft in the, Whole, thing Well. Not
kaylan klan stole allegedly let me throw that, in there
allegedly stole ninety manhole covers from the streets in the County.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
