Speaker 1 (00:01):
Z number one Tuck Show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain, and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now the.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Bloom Daddy Experience. It's seven oh six on news Radio
eleven seventy. Good Monday morning, and I'm going to start
your Monday off with something that is truly remarkable. And
Sam is going to hate my guts for it as
a Browns fan, but here it is. I mean, every
time you think the Browns cannot invent a new way
to lose, they do.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
In Cleveland. We call it OIC only in Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Two stats from the loss to the Jets that are
mind boggling, mind blowing, like you're not even gonna be
able to comprehend what I'm about to tell you.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
Here's the first one.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Since nineteen fifty, teams had been two hundred and twenty five.
And oh, let me say that again just so you
fully understand the incredible ways that the Cleveland Browns lose
football games. Since nineteen fifty, teams had been two hundred
and twenty five. And oh, when holding opponents to one
(01:20):
hundred and seventy five or fewer yards and not turning
the ballover.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Make that two hundred and twenty five and one. The
Browns the first team ever to lose a game.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
When holding opponents to one hundred and seventy five or
fewer yards and not turning the ball over. Just let
that sink in for a second, because I've got another
one for you, not as good as that one, but
pretty damn good in its own right. During that game
(01:55):
yesterday against the Jets, with a minute forty seconds left
in the first quarter, the New York Jets had a
fourteen to seven lead with two yards of total offense
and no first downs.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Once again, let me say that again. The Jets had two.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yards of total offense, no first downs, and were winning
fourteen to seven with a minute forty left in the
first quarter. The Jets had thirteen total yards at the
end of the first quarter and no first downs. And
we're winning that game, and what the hell, let's throw
in a third, one, third and sixteen. You're about to
(02:40):
get the ball back for your offense with under two
minutes to go, and Devin Bush gets called for holding
on a receiver when everybody in the stadium and watching
on TV, all six of us knew the Jets were
not throwing the ball. And it gets better fourth and four.
(03:02):
The Jets are just gonna try to draw the Browns
off sides. They're gonna have to pun it back. Browns
have a chance to get the ball back, potentially tie
the game, and the Browns jump off sides. It it's
beyond comical, it's beyond insane.
Speaker 3 (03:23):
It's beyond comprehension.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
It's beyond explanation what this team does on a weekly basis.
And to make it even better, Kevin Stefanski, Kevin Stefanski
says he's sticking with Dylan Gabriel moving forward. Dylan Gabriel,
who's done nothing in five starts to make me go
(03:49):
okay or wow, that kid's got something. You've got Shdoor
Sanders sitting there in the wings. He might stink, but
how do you not give that kid a shot? After
what you watched Dylan Gabriel do yesterday? Terrible throws, throws
(04:11):
that could get his receivers head ripped off. And yet
Kevin Stefanski gonna keep on Groundhog Day in it, over
and over and over got a new nickname for Kevin Stefanski.
I'm gonna admit I stole it from Craig Bomber, who's
our market president here at iHeart and wheeling the weatherman,
because Kevin Stefanski is just like your local weatherman. They
(04:33):
can get it wrong over and over and over, and
they never got a fear of losing their job. The
weather man Kevin Stefanski. And I'll say this, and then
I'm gonna let Sam have her peace. If you start
Shore Sanders next week against the Ravens, that'll be the
most watched two and seven team in the history of
(04:55):
the NFL.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
The Browns are two and seven.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
You start Shadoor Sanders against the Ravens, the Browns will
be the most watched two and seventeen in the history
of the National Football League.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
All right, Sam, the floor is yours.
Speaker 4 (05:12):
Okay, the floor is mine. Here's the thing. I don't
overreact anymore. I have lived this my entire life as
a Browns fan, So I understand, bloom Daddy. You know
you're getting all worked up, and the frustration and the
anger and the questioning, and this is comical. This is
(05:37):
almost as if the I can't think of the term otis.
Remember the old black and white movies where there were
the bumbling cops and all. That's it. That's it. Listen,
I've watched this for forty plus years. I don't let
it rattle me anymore. I've gotten to that place in
my life where I can actually predict to you what
(05:59):
is going to happen. As a lifelong Browns fan, I
can watch the game and say, Okay, this is this
is this, this is this, this is what we're going
to do to shoot ourselves in the foot because it
always happens. It always happens. And see, BlimE downy, this
(06:19):
this is new to you. This is new to you
about what four years now following the Browns as much
as you have to.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
Keep in mind his Minnesota Vikings went oh for four
in Super Bowls.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Well yeah, but when it comes to following this team
and really paying attention, you're you're still you're still at
that that blissful, hopeful stage when you've got decades under
your belt like myself, and you've lived through the drive
and you've lived through the fumble, and you've lived through
(06:52):
the sale and all of this. You you create this
this exterior shell where you can let it roll off
your back if you will, and you just you just
you just shake your listen. I had hope when we
had Baker and Chubb and and I can't think of
(07:16):
the entire squad at that point in time, but I thought,
all right, we're building something here. We've got it on defense,
we've got it on offense. We're building something here. And
then they gave Baker Mayfield the shaft, sent him packing,
and I thought, there it is, there it is. We're
(07:38):
gonna completely ruin everything that we have built. And that
is exactly what has happened. Exactly what has happened. And
I've made and I've made a decision yesterday about what
five minutes and then the game six minutes into the
game there was the return for kickoff. That's it. I'm done.
I'm done. I'd rather clean my toilets and accomplish something
(08:00):
with my day.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
I should have had you come to my house.
Speaker 4 (08:02):
Then said here and watch the game. But with that
being said, they did lose twenty seven to twenty against
the Jets, which officially makes them the.
Speaker 5 (08:14):
Worst Cets Jets Jets Jets, Yes.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Which officially makes them the worst team in the NFL.
Also on the football field, yesterday, the Steelers got crushed
by the Chargers twenty five to ten on Sunday Night football.
Rogers threw for more than one hundred and sixty yards
to go with a touchdown and two picks. Pittsburgh has
dropped three of its last four. So prepare today for
(08:39):
the Steeler fans calling for firings and benchings and everything else, because,
as we've discussed before, no offense Steeler fans, you have
no idea what it's like. You've lost a couple games.
You know, the sky is not falling. Everybody, stay calm.
Also in the AFC North, the Bays will visit the
(09:00):
Steelers Sunday afternoon, while the brown the Browns host the Ravens.
That's gonna be a barn burder. Cincinnati is three and
six while Cleveland is two and seven. As we mentioned,
after falling to the Otis.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
J Ets, Jet Jet Jets.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
There you go, there you go, seven fifteen on your
Monday coming up, We've got two chances for you to win.
This morning. We have got two family four packs to
Saturday's Nailer's game.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
Ye first responder night.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
Oh nice.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
So that's the promo for the evening. It is first
Responders Night.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Nice? What does that entail?
Speaker 5 (09:36):
I have no idea. I just know that it's First
Responders Night.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
You just know that's the theme, all right. It is
seven sixteen The Blue Ditty Experience, Sam and Otis News
Radio eleven seventy WWVA see on your cold chili Sunday morning,
(10:02):
Monday morning. There's football playing in front of me. Sorry,
you're listening to Bloom Died Experience. Here Otis Sam, we
are here. We made it.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
It was.
Speaker 4 (10:12):
It was quite interesting driving in this morning for myself.
A little bit of ice, a little bit of snow
up on the higher elevation, so.
Speaker 5 (10:18):
I didn't see any of it.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
You didn't see any of it? Oh no, it was
I couldn't even see hardly. It was coming down so fast.
So you know, if you are in those areas, take caution.
Coming up, we're gonna have two chances for you to
win this morning. Coming up very shortly. It's gonna be
your first chance. We've got a family four pack to
this Saturday's Nailer's game, so stay tuned for that.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
Well, speaking of the Nailers, I don't know if you
knew this they added a couple of new items to
the history books. On Saturday night, Okay, they finished off
a three game sweep of the Greensboro Guargirls at First
Horizon Colisseum. Wheeling earned its six straight win for its
first ever seven to one and oh start in team history.
Speaker 4 (10:57):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (10:57):
It was also their five hundred road in their thirty
four year history of being in Wheeling.
Speaker 3 (11:03):
Wow.
Speaker 5 (11:03):
So obviously you know we're giving away the tickets, but
they're back in action this weekend at West Banco Arena.
Friday night is Military Appreciation Night and Saturday is First
Responders Night. The Nailers will take on the Main Mariners.
I was going to say the Marine Mariners.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
We're both having talking issues.
Speaker 5 (11:21):
Yes, the Main Mariners for a seven to ten puck
drop on both nights, and of course those games are
carried on our sister station Mixed ninety seven to three.
And we also want to put this out there tomorrow
for tomorrow, since it is Veterans Day. Tomorrow, the Pap
Club down in South Wheeling at forty four to ten
Jacob Street, they are doing a free Veterans Day breakfast
from nine am to noon. It's free for all veterans,
(11:44):
non member, vets and first responders are welcome as well. Eggs, toast, cream, corn,
bee sausage, bacon, donuts, coffee all on the menu. And
if you are a veteran, you are encouraged to bring
your medals, your ID tags, any hats, photos, memorabilia, et cetera,
anything that you have that's shows you your time in
the service and share it with the friends down there
at the PAP Again, that's nine to noon for breakfast
(12:07):
and then they will be offering twenty five cents off
drinks all day for veterans.
Speaker 4 (12:11):
Well and staying along the same lines tomorrow's show, if
you would like us to mention or honor or tell
the story of a veteran close to you, whether it's
a family member, a family friend, that's what we want
to do tomorrow. So you can email Sam at iHeartMedia
dot com with the name, rank, years of service, maybe
(12:31):
what they did in the service. Again, you can email
Sam at iHeartMedia dot com, or you can go to
our text line which is seven zero four seven zero
and provide the same information because we want to take
this time tomorrow to honor our our local veterans.
Speaker 5 (12:49):
Staying local I don't know if you saw it, but
it was on Saturday's game day Willing Park High School
football player Keen Davis. Okay, game against John Marshall now
teams about six seven and cheezed three hundred pounds. He's
a defensive lineman.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
That's a big boy.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
It is blowing up the internet. Oh, it was like
the number one play on the local TV stations. It
is like, I'm looking right now, it's on bro Bible,
on Facebook, it's been on it. It was ESPN's College
Dick game Day. Really, my man got a they're not
even calling it a pick six. They're calling it a
(13:30):
thick six. Okay, So he picks it off and he's
got what's on the New York Post. Yeah, he's got
ten John Marshall defenders trying to bring him down, and
he rumbles and bumbles and stumbles for about sixty yards
for a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (13:44):
Okay, hold on, keep talking about it. I'm watching it.
Speaker 5 (13:46):
Yeah. So, I mean, he just there's a couple of angles.
The one angle that you see on the internet. But
there's somebody that I'm friends with on Facebook that actually
was probably in the stands and did it on his
own and it's from the other side of the field,
which is it's even better because it shows the reaction
from the William Park bench and everything else. But my
man is famous.
Speaker 4 (14:09):
Good for him.
Speaker 5 (14:10):
Yeah, it's just, uh, you don't see it that often, No,
big boy, it says it says West Virginia High School
defensive tackle A Keen Davis scores the most incredible thick
six you will ever see is this headline on this one.
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Well, and it's funny when those big guys get an
interception or pick up a fund a fumble you get,
you're like, go, go, come on, big boy.
Speaker 5 (14:34):
And if you watch, if you watch the sideline on
Willie Park and there's another angle, I'll show you and
I'll see if it's shareable and we'll give credit to
the person that recorded it. Yeah, but it's from the
other side of the field, so it's it's actually I
think it's actually a little better video, to be honest
with you.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Oh shoot, no, I haven't seen that anywhere.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
Yeah, I mean, like McAfee, who are the who's it?
Desmond Howard, here's the one from Michigan that's on games.
Desmond Howard, Herb Street and Saban They've got it on
the board and they're all watching it. They got their pointers,
and when he scores, all of them put their hands
up for the touchdown.
Speaker 3 (15:14):
It was great.
Speaker 5 (15:15):
Oh it's that. The ESPN versions on on YouTube or
on Facebook as well, and you gotta you just got
to see their reaction, okay, because it's just classic. But yeah,
congratulations to him. I mean, take your fifteen minutes of fame.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Brother, he's gonna he's going to walk into school today.
Speaker 5 (15:31):
That might be the play of the year for ESPN.
That can very I mean as big as that was,
and I mean this thing is like blowing up everywhere.
So good for him.
Speaker 4 (15:41):
Yeah, how old?
Speaker 5 (15:43):
I think he's a senior?
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Is a senior?
Speaker 5 (15:45):
I think don't don't quote me on that.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Six foot seven. God, imagine keeping.
Speaker 5 (15:50):
Him I'm sorry six he's six one, three hundred and
twenty and he's a junior.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
Yeah, okay, so imagine keeping big boy big.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
Maybe we had to turn around and block on the
extra point, so he was busy. He was very busy.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
He was busy. Oh well, that's I will.
Speaker 5 (16:09):
I'll see if I can pull up the other video
and give it to you and then that way we
can share it. Oh, Okay, well, yeah, we need to
credit the person the person the video yea.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Also staying along the lines of high school football, Barnesville's
moving on in the state playoffs, so is Big Red.
The semi final games will be held November fourteenth. Barnesville
defeated Port Smith along with Studentville, Big Red beating Buckeye Valley,
Saint Clairsville and Union Local. Of course, these are Eastern
(16:38):
Higher teams are out of the playoffs, so eliminated. Yeah,
they have been eliminated. It's a little bit of a
little bit of update there. And then we were talking
before you before we went to the high school football
stuff with the player, you were talking about the PAP
Club and what they're doing for the veterans tomorrow. I mentioned,
we're doing our stuff on our show, so we want
(16:59):
to throw people out there and honor them. So of
course you can email us Sam at iHeartMedia dot com.
But then also all across the country at different restaurants,
they are doing different things. Wendy's is involved, White Castles involved,
Texas Roadhouse. I will post what they are doing for
veterans and specials. But if you are a local business,
(17:20):
local restaurant, who are doing special things for our veterans
tomorrow on Veterans Day. You can also email us the
information again, samat iHeartMedia dot com. We will promote it
tomorrow and also put it out on our social media.
So again, just reach out to Sam at iHeartMedia dot com.
Seven twenty eight. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience.
(17:41):
Sam and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Welcome back to the bloom Daddy Experience. So on your
Monday Loved seventy WWVA. Did a little Christmas shopping over
the weekend, just trying to get an early start. Went
over to the High Valley Mall, which will always be
near and dear to me because I can remember as
a kid going there when it first opened and just
loving the experience. And I'm excited about what's coming to
the mall, all the new shops that we announced here
first on eleven seventy WWVA months ago, But.
Speaker 3 (18:12):
One thing kind of struck me. Well.
Speaker 2 (18:15):
Before I get to that, I want you to check
out the second floor bos Covs. They've got the best
Christmas display in the Ohio Valley, at least I think so.
Speaker 3 (18:23):
I call it my happy place. Been going there for years.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
They don't have it all out as of yet, but
the second floor of bos Covs has a great Christmas
display and everything right now is fifty percent off.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
All right, Got that out of the way.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
Over at the mall, walking through hit bos Covs, hit
a couple of other places. But I tell you, I
missed my best friend. And my best friend was Fabios.
Tommy hit Fabios. I mean Fabios is in Wheeling, now,
I get it, just want a new location. Had to
do what Tom had to do. But I miss Fabio
(19:00):
not being there. I mean it was Scotto's Pizza before,
I believe, but it's like a like a tradition every
time I go to the mall, I got Fabios, love
the pizza known to workers, the employees forever talk to
Tom how are the kids do?
Speaker 3 (19:16):
And I'd see his kids in there all the time.
Fabio is not I mean, it was a family thing.
And when I went over there this Saturday.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Seeing that spot empty, I mean, it damn near broke
my heart because I mean some of my.
Speaker 3 (19:33):
Best Friday nights when my kids were younger, or.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Saturday nights taking them over there getting pizza and Fabio's
hitting games, stop across the way, buying them a new game,
and then sitting there.
Speaker 3 (19:48):
People watching, eating pizza with them.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Specifically, my youngest Braylan, who's twenty years old in the
sophomore at Wright State University.
Speaker 3 (19:55):
Now, i'd take him over.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
There at you know, five, six years old, seven years old.
He would get so excited. We'd sit right outside, we'd
talk to Tom. I always had to get him, It's funny,
got him tearing up. I would always have to get
him Pepperoni pizza and then he would take all the
(20:17):
pepperoni off and I'd eat it and I'd go, Braylin,
what is the point we can just get cheese pizza.
Speaker 3 (20:23):
No.
Speaker 2 (20:23):
I like the grease dad from the Pepperonis, but I
don't like the Pepperonis, which hey, I benefited from it.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
I love Pepperoni, but I mean just.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
Special moment, great memories and going over there Saturday and
not seeing it there.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
Man, it was like.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
It's like a kick right to the chest. And I
know more things are coming in and stuff like that.
But sometimes, you know, change affects you in different ways,
and and that definitely definitely hit me hard.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
I hope Tom's doing well and Wheeling, Wheeling.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
I hope you appreciate Fabios because great product, great family,
and man that just sucked. Want to give you an
update on something too. I'm around taping Lake Lakeside store
they are adding on.
Speaker 3 (21:16):
Now.
Speaker 2 (21:16):
This has been a great addition because you know, I've
got a house in Harrison County and you have to
go all the way to Deersville before Lakeside Country Store
came in right across you know, right up past the
marina to get anything, to get supplies, to get anything.
And then they built cabins on the side of the hill,
which we've talked about that here.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
It's a beautiful place. Well, I just found out they're
adding on.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
They're adding on a bar restaurant to Lakeside, which is
gonna be sweet because people have said I was talking
to some of the workers that they would love there
to go there, get something to eat. They've got great
food in there and be able to sit outside and
look at the lake. Now they've got a couple of
little flat top tables out in front, but they're gonna
put a patio in and they got their liquor license.
(22:01):
They're gonna put a bar restaurant. It's gonna be it's
gonna be awesome. And then they're putting an indoor outdoor
pull in if you rent the cabins that are on
the side of the hill, which if you go around
Tapping Lake on two fifty you.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
See it all the time.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
So some big, big things coming to Lakeside that are
gonna be awesome for everybody to enjoin.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Samon Otis, I don't.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Know if you guys have stayed out there, but I
know you know exactly what I'm talking about.
Speaker 4 (22:28):
I don't know exactly what you're talking about and where
you're talking about. It's a beautiful part of our area,
and the cabins are gorgeous. It's an opportunity, you know,
this time of year or two kind of maybe get away,
just go somewhere different. I know that's what I'm kind
of in the mood for looking. I've actually been thinking
about it, just just to get away and what I
like to say, hunker down and just take a mental
(22:53):
a mental break. Otis, you don't really you don't do
that kind of stuff to you.
Speaker 5 (23:00):
I mean, I mean I do.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
I mean this weekend you did your sports stuff.
Speaker 5 (23:03):
Yeah, I mean, which is your way, you know. I mean,
there's there's certain things that I do. You know, obviously
I have I have an opportunity. Anytime I want to
go to Canaan, I can pretty much go down to
Canaine Valley and I have a place to stay and
spend a weekend to get out of just get out
of dodge, you know. But you know, it's been a
(23:24):
while since I've been out in the Tapping area. You know,
last time, I took two fifty someplace. I can't remember
where I was going, but I decided to take two
fifty just for the scene, just for something different. And
you know, what has come up in the last couple
of years out there is amazing to you know, growth,
(23:44):
the growth, I mean, so you know, people are finally
realizing that what's there and taking advantage of it. So
the other thing is, you don't you don't necessarily want
it to get too overdone, because the reason people have
camps or they have houses out in that area is
because it is kind of laid back and everything else.
(24:05):
And you know, I mean you see it. I mean
I see it in Morgantown. You see it it like
Deep Creek, how it just kind of keeps growing and
growing and it's taken that little bit of nostalgia out
of it. Yes, you know, the the laid back country
and now it's you know it, you know. Oh well,
we're gonna put these houses here, we're gonna put these
condos here, and we're gonna do this, and we're going
(24:26):
to do that. And then now we got another marina
and now we've got this and.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
That torsty growth. Yes, yeah, that that that local secret
starts to lose.
Speaker 5 (24:36):
It the best kept secret for like one hundred years
is now like starting to boom.
Speaker 4 (24:41):
Yeah, yeah, and going excuse me, going back to his
original subject about the mall and and fobbios, and the
timing is funny. It always weirds me out when when
I'm on the same wavelength with somebody because I did
something this week and I was want to talk about
in the next segment, we'll get into that. But I
went to the new Fabio's location for the first time
(25:03):
on Friday, actually with a friend of mine here and
on Main Street and downtown Wheeling. It's right across the
street from Main Street Bank actually, but it was my
first visit to the new location. It was so good.
It was so good. I mean, my house, my husband
could live on pizza. Honest to God, he could. I
(25:25):
would never have to cook again if all he if
he could have pizza every day for every meal, he would.
So I tend to get burnt out on it. But
when my friend suggested, let's let's try it, you know,
let's go there for the you know, she had never
been there, I had never been there, I'm like, yeah, okay,
let's go. It was so good. I took one bite
and I'm like, oh, this was this was worth it,
(25:48):
you know.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:49):
I mean, you can do pizza every day and you
get you can always get a different pizza from a
different place, and it's always going to be different.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
You know.
Speaker 5 (25:57):
You can you can get your standard pepperoni, then you
can get all meat pizza, you can get a taco pizza,
you know, different things. But I mean you can get
burned out on pizza pretty quick.
Speaker 4 (26:07):
Yeah, so yeah, congratulates.
Speaker 5 (26:09):
Also one of the best leftover foods ever.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
And you know what, my husband discovered. Heating it up
in the air fryer instead of the microwave, you don't
get a soggy bottom. It stays crispy.
Speaker 5 (26:20):
You can do it in the skillet too, with the
lid skillet and it'll stay crispy in the skillet, just
a little bit of like a little bit of cooking,
like huh, pray it was a spray with pam or
something like that. Oh, and then you just and then
you put it on for like I don't know, get
like a medium medium high heat, put it like a
lid over top of it.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
I'll see, I like cold pizza.
Speaker 5 (26:42):
I'm an old and cold kind of guy.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
Yeah, I like cold pizza.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
I don't like it like refrigerator cold, no room temperature.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
Yeah, I don't like reheated pizza. But anyways, we have
your chance to win right now, right now, for eleven
seventy your first chance this morning. We've got a only
four pack to Saturday's home Nailers game right down the
street at West Banco Arena, which, by the way is
Caddy Corner two, the new Fabio. See we tied it
(27:09):
all together.
Speaker 5 (27:10):
One nice right across the creek.
Speaker 4 (27:11):
Yep, right a curtain a nice little bow there. So
let's do. Caller number eleven, one hundred six two four
eleven seventy. Caller number eleven. You're listening to the bloom
Daddy experience here on News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Welcome
(27:34):
Back seven fifty one The bloom Daddy Experience. Sam and
otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Like I said earlier,
it always weirds me out when our brains, whether it's
myself in bloom Daddy, myself and otis like we're on
the same wavelength, because it makes me question my mental
(27:57):
acuity when when we're on the same plane of things.
Speaker 5 (28:01):
And why am I saying that?
Speaker 4 (28:03):
Is that? What it is? Why am saying this? Excuse me?
Is because of this weekend. So on Saturday, I had
an appointment in Wellsburg, So and it was very early
in the morning, and I thought, okay, why don't I
head north, go across the river and go to the
(28:23):
Fort Stupen Mall. I thought, you know, let's get a jump.
Let me go somewhere different for holiday shopping. While I'm
up here. Well, you know, folks, we on this, you
know south of Stubenville, you know we tend to there
tends to be a lot of criticism of the Ohio
(28:44):
Valley Mall. Let me tell you this. Take a ride
to Steubenville and go to the Fort stuben Mall. When
I walked in there. It was like I walked into
a scene out of a out of a apocalypse movie.
It was dark, barely any human activity. There were a
(29:09):
few stores open, including one being bed Bathroom Beyond, not
bed Bath and Beyond, I'm sorry, Bath and body Works
and J. C. Pennies, and I think there was a
nail salon and a vape store. That's it. That's it, folks,
and a couple. There's the Ville restaurant and another restaurant,
(29:32):
bad Ombre something like that. That's it, folks. But the
interior of that mall no lights on. There was music playing,
no lights on, but honest to god, it was like
the opening of a End of the World movie, or
like the opening of The Walking Dead. It was creepy.
(29:55):
It was not scary, but it was unnerving. The weirdest
thing was the floors. The floors otis are are are
warped like it looks as if there was a small
earthquake that happened, like.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
The roof probably leaked and get water underneath of it.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
But it's it's the expanse of the mall. It's not
just one particular area. It's a good I mean, and
it's it's It's not just a little bit of warping.
It's pretty substantial. And I thought, how is this even
still open? And it's got to be J C.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Penny, Well, you would be if you went to the
Washington Mall like they would, they would host a card
show there. They're not gonna be able to host there
anymore because I think they're gonna either tear down or
renovate that Washington Mall. But you would be at the
card show and there would be garbage cans collecting water
like all through the plate. Like if I if I
was selling cards and I was set up by something
(30:53):
where there was a bucket of water water coming through,
I would have been like, look, either give me a
discount for putting for being here, or move me because
I'm not going to be How do I know that
the roof's not going to cave in and ruin all
my stuff?
Speaker 4 (31:08):
Well, that was one of the things I thought with
the floor at this mall was how is this even
safe to have open? I mean, it was just, you know,
it hit me, you know, being a kid who grew
up in the eighties and nineties, the mall was the
place to be and it was honestly very very very sad.
(31:31):
And like I said as I opened this, you know,
the High Voluy Mall gets a lot of criticism and
people have their own thoughts and opinions on what should
come in and you know, this is what this mall
is missing. Let's not take for granted what we do
have at the a High Valley Mall because as I said,
take a drive to Supinville.
Speaker 5 (31:53):
Here's the thing. I think. You know, the malls in
their heyday, so from the mid seventies to probably the
early nine d the malls in their heyday were the
place to be. And I think sometimes though malls, and
I can't speak for any mall in but I think
sometimes they price themselves out on rent and it's not
(32:17):
affordable for somebody to go in there. And you know,
it's just like it's just like the people that own
buildings in downtown Wheeling that sit empty forever. You can't,
you know, take the cut and get the people in
there to get the high traffic, or it's better than
the store is sitting empty. And I'm just gonna throw
(32:41):
a number out there. I mean, I have no idea,
but it's if you're going to charge me by the
square foot of my store. Instead of charging me two
dollars a square foot, charge me one dollar a square foot.
And that way maybe I can afford to come in
there and do my business, you know, you know, I
just I just think there's there's times that and just
(33:01):
like the people that are in the buildings and wheeling,
look rent, cut your rent, or sell them or do something.
It's no longer considered prime property. You know, in your
mind it is, you know, but in reality, if there's
nothing else around me, right, it's no longer prime property.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
Well, and I'm one of those people. And hopefully I'm
not alone. I don't think I am alone when I
go shopping. Like I understand, I understand shopping online, and
I understand the benefits of it in the quick turn
a lot to do with it as well, it does
have a lot to do with it. But I also
am the person. I want to go into a store.
I want to touch when I'm buying. I want to
(33:40):
try it on, I want to smell the person. Like
I'm a tactile person, like when I shop, I want
to touch and feel the quality of what. And there's
nothing like a good day shopping and I like to
do that. In and inside building. I don't want to
be in and out of the weather, in and out
of my car. I don't want to be you know,
online doing it. I like to go inside a mall
(34:03):
and shop. And like I said, this weekend, it was,
you know, thought i'd go somewhere different, thought I'd see
what's still happening up in Stuphenville, and it was just
it was just really really sad. It was really sad,
you know, And I don't want to be a Debbie
downer on a Monday. But then it also, as I said,
(34:23):
made me think, we are still really lucky to have
what we have in Saint Clairsville. We really are. It
may not be what everybody wants, and it may not
be what it was in the heyday in the eighties,
but we still have what we have in Saint Clairsville. So,
you know, Fort Steuben, good luck to you. You know,
(34:44):
God bless the people working at Bath and Body Works.
Still chugging along, still chugging along up there. Seven fifty eight.
You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience. Sam and Otis
News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
See number one Tuck Show in the Ohio Alley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.
Speaker 4 (35:23):
Welcome back eight o six The bloom Daddy Experience Otis
and Sam here on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA. You
know we say all the time if you want to
get in on the conversation, one one hundred sixty two
four eleven seventy is the number one eight hundred six
two four eleven seventy, which, by the way, I know
tons of you know that number because you call to win.
(35:45):
Don't just dial to win. We want your thoughts, your opinions.
Speaker 5 (35:49):
You can also use the text line seven zero four
seven zero.
Speaker 4 (35:52):
Here you go start it off with bloom Daddy. But
Davo used the phone number one one hundred sixty two
four eleven seventy. He has some thoughts on our conversation
about the Fort. Stephen Mall, Good morning, Davo.
Speaker 6 (36:03):
Good morning, Yes boy, did you bring a chord there
with your ohject manders all morning?
Speaker 4 (36:09):
Did I make you mad?
Speaker 6 (36:11):
No? No, it's funny because I bet only two three
years ago I went to the I had a very
similar experience only two three years ago, I went to
the Forts New mal for the first time in twenty years.
Walked in with the same exact shock that you described,
because it's been that way for a little while. They've
been through multiple bankruptcies and auctions and it's just getting
(36:34):
tossed around like a hot potato, you know, between owners
and all walking in.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
Go ahead, no, go ahead, go ahead. I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (36:43):
Well, walking in with that warped floor, and I felt like,
you know, I don't know if you remember the old
Batman shows where they kind of had scenes where it
seemed like the camera was tilted and they were walking killed,
so to speak. It's what I felt like in there.
Speaker 5 (37:02):
But it's like being in a funhouse where.
Speaker 6 (37:04):
Yeah, there you go, and I remember seeing those. Now
this is like that weird, eerie part where you see
I could see where the old Hickory Farms was, and
remember as a kid when at first they first opened
and they were given away free food samples, like wow,
this but you could just see the outline of it
(37:27):
where it used to being. Now it's just a dreary,
dark well, it's like Dave.
Speaker 4 (37:32):
It's funny you say that, because as I was walking
through looking at the empty storefronts in my memory, I'm going,
I think that's things remembered and I think that was
that looks like the storefront of a Clare's. And then
I kept thinking to myself, I hope something doesn't come
out from behind the door, like from the Walking Dead,
(37:52):
because that's what it felt like. How dark and in quiet,
and like you said, the floors and everything. Yeah, it
just had an ear and eerie feel.
Speaker 6 (38:01):
To it, yeah, feel to it. And I tell you
what where I grew up down in that you know,
Yorkville Filsville Corridor.
Speaker 4 (38:09):
Why TR for those in and out?
Speaker 6 (38:11):
Yeah, hit TR, thank you. Halfway between what is Stuville
Mall and the Saint Clair'sville Mall and so we you're
twenty minutes to either one. And I remember as a kid,
so this has been seventy five, nineteen seventy five, seventy
six or so, there were billboards along Route seven and
that's when Route seven on the Hire Side was right
(38:33):
on the river and there was just a big like
cowboy looked like the seventy sam type cowboy, and it
just the billboard said it's coming, and then the next
one said coming soon.
Speaker 7 (38:45):
As a kid are like, what's coming?
Speaker 6 (38:46):
What's coming? Moms like it's a mall, and like what's
a mall?
Speaker 3 (38:49):
You know?
Speaker 6 (38:50):
And and they opened up and it was phenomenal, you know,
because you didn't have to go outside in the cole
and watch store to store like you know and wheeling.
But then the uh Ben Saint Clair's will open a
few years later and we started going there, and then
we started splitting between the two, and you know, it
was great having two choices like that.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Well yeah, you know, and and it kind of made
me a little sad to think, you know, like kids today,
you know, they'll never like like toys are russ and
and going into those stores and and you know, seeing
the new toys in the awe and the excitement and
you know now that so much has gone to online shopping,
(39:30):
those experiences for the little ones especially, you know, they're
not going to get to have those. I love those
memories that I have, no.
Speaker 6 (39:39):
And for the teenagers, what a awesome just walk around,
you know, not walking impacts the kids like how I'm
doing the bigger, but just walking around and seeing everybody
and looking up a few things. They got you out
of the house and the winner.
Speaker 3 (39:55):
It was awesome.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
It was still can be, but it was your social
You know.
Speaker 6 (39:59):
That the biggest complainers that you see about, well they
need do they need that? They probably haven't been there
for twenty years.
Speaker 5 (40:06):
Yep.
Speaker 7 (40:06):
It's like, go support the thing.
Speaker 6 (40:08):
Maybe they would be doing more that are just complaining.
Speaker 4 (40:11):
You're exactly right, You're exactly right, David. Thank you this morning. Yeah,
all right, have a good Monday. Yeah, he's exactly right
when he's talking about supporting. You know, we've mentioned this
a couple of times. You know, there are those that
are always the the the naysayers. You know, there's nothing
going on in the Ohio Valley. There's nothing this there's
nothing that will open your eyes because there is. Because
(40:33):
those are the people who don't buy the tickets. Those
are the people who don't spend their money at small businesses.
Those are the people who don't support the naysayers. And
it's unfortunate because we have a lot of that here
in the High Valley. But I think we're starting to
turn a corner. I mean, if you really pay attention
to a lot of the stuff that's happening around the
Ohio Valley. You know, we see it every day sitting
(40:55):
right here in the Capitol Theater. We see the excitement.
We see the people coming, you know, buying tickets, asking questions.
We see the things going up in the Marquee. We
are starting to see a bit of a turn. And
what I talked about with the four stupent mall, I wasn't.
I don't. I don't want to be one of those naysayers.
I was just shocked. I was shocked at at not
(41:17):
only the physical the physicality of that building, but also
just the darkness and the sadness that it that it
made me feel. But anyways, kind of want to want
to turn the corner from from that subject here a
little bit. I want to hit on the top story
of the morning. Nationally, the Senate took a major step
Sunday towards reopening the government, voting sixty to forty to
(41:42):
advance the deal. The agreement came after a group of
eight moderate Senate Democrats reached common ground with GOP leaders
in the White House. In short, the plan would reopen
the government now in exchange for a future vote on
extending enhanced Affordable care Act subsidies. But this is not
a done deal as of yet. Any single Senator can
(42:04):
still slow things down for a few days and the
House of Representatives will have to return and sign off
on the Senate's version before it can go to the
go to President Trump's desk for his signature. Also, we
are getting into the crazy holiday travel season and if
this continues, of course, this will affect the heavy travel
(42:24):
season because as a trans Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said
today that air travel could be in his words, reduced
to a trickle heading into Thanksgiving as airlines start making
FAA required flight cuts because of the current shut down.
So this continue, This story, of course, continues to develop
(42:47):
as the conversations are had, but hopefully we see a
bit of a bit of a bend, a bit of
an open conversation to possibly bring this to an end.
And staying on the national topic real quick, I wanted
to bring up the football game yesterday in Washington, the
(43:09):
Commander's Game and halftime. If you did not see, there
were hundreds of young of people who pledged to the
United States to enter arms of our military. President Trump
did uh recited to the to the new troops as
they swore an oath to the country while that was
(43:31):
going on. I don't care who the president is, I
don't care who was in that booth. For the people
in that audience who booed during that ceremony, you should
be ashamed of yourselves. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
(43:55):
When I saw the clips and I heard the booze,
it made me angry, and then it made me sad.
These are American citizens who cannot take their hatred for
our president and squash it for a small moment in
time to honor and respect these young folks who are
(44:17):
swearing an oath to our country, making the ultimate sacrifice.
For those few short minutes. They could not withhold their vile,
their vitriol, their anger. I don't know what term you
want to use towards our sitting president for those few
(44:39):
short minutes of time in respect for those young people
swearing an oath to our country making the ultimate sacrifice
or could make the ultimate sacrifice, and they had to boo.
It was one of the most disgusting I've seen in
(45:01):
a very long time, very long time. Eight sixteen. You're
listening to the bloom Daddy experience, Samon Otis News Radio
eleven seventy WWVA eight twenty one, The bloom Daddy Experience
samon Otis News Radio, eleven seventy WWVA. We got to
(45:24):
talk to this guy, Kevin Cook's job on a mode
of Good morning.
Speaker 6 (45:27):
Sir, Morning guys.
Speaker 7 (45:29):
How y'all doing this morning?
Speaker 4 (45:30):
Pretty good? Pretty good?
Speaker 5 (45:31):
I have a quick question for you. Did you watch
any of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction
ceremony on Saturday night?
Speaker 3 (45:38):
I did not.
Speaker 5 (45:40):
I will say this, you and Brian Adams could be brothers.
You guys. Look, I mean like he came out and
I was like, oh my god, that's Kevin Cook, with
the exception that you're probably a foot and a half
taller than he is.
Speaker 7 (45:57):
Yeah yeah, yeah, except what he's sitting on his bank account,
he's a little taller, and I well, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (46:05):
No doubt there. So anyway, what's going on is drab
automotive today?
Speaker 7 (46:10):
Hey man? How about the a hundaid getaway sales event?
Now we're not we're not talking about your dating life
of this where everybody wants to get away?
Speaker 3 (46:18):
Wow?
Speaker 7 (46:21):
Like that?
Speaker 4 (46:22):
How was it?
Speaker 7 (46:22):
Good?
Speaker 6 (46:22):
One?
Speaker 7 (46:23):
I like that you got to get in.
Speaker 5 (46:25):
Early, you know, that's fine. Early listen, if I auditioned out,
I gotta be able to take it.
Speaker 7 (46:31):
This is through Hyundai Getaway sales at zero percent financing
right now for up to sixty months on Honday, Tucson
Tucson Hybrid, UH Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Hybrid.
And you can get no payments from to ninety days.
Speaker 5 (46:47):
Wow.
Speaker 7 (46:47):
So no interest and no payments for ninety days. I
mean that's you know, that's really cool.
Speaker 5 (46:54):
That is good. I mean the zero present interest is huge.
Oh gosh, yeah, So I mean that's that's I mean,
that's bigger than the ninety days. I mean, the ninety
days is nice, but the zero percent interest is huge.
Speaker 7 (47:05):
Not debates free okay. And speaking of free, you can
also speaking Hondays, you can get a free break inspection
right now. Okay. We'll inspect your breaks, break past rotors,
master cylinder cowpers, wheel cylinders, check fluid levels, parking break
road test. It all at no charge, so you know,
if you've been hearing a little squeak or you're not
(47:27):
really sure you know what kind of condition your breaks
are in, you know, especially right now before winter when
it can be a little challenging getting around on some
of these icy mornings and you need a little bit
more confidence. Just hey, just reach out to us, set
up a free break inspection. We'll be happy to do
it for you at no charge.
Speaker 5 (47:46):
How long is that gonna last for us? Everybody?
Speaker 7 (47:48):
You know, what the rest of this month?
Speaker 3 (47:49):
How's that?
Speaker 5 (47:50):
Okay?
Speaker 7 (47:51):
Okay?
Speaker 5 (47:51):
And that's at all Straw dealerships and all Straw.
Speaker 7 (47:53):
Servicenday for right now?
Speaker 5 (47:55):
Okay, just just for Honday. Okay, yep, Honday's doing that,
you know, And that's any making model a car.
Speaker 7 (48:03):
It's fine with me.
Speaker 5 (48:05):
No, I'm just at I mean because I mean, since
it's only at Hundai, I'm just saying, is it only available.
Speaker 7 (48:09):
From the dealership?
Speaker 5 (48:10):
Doing it?
Speaker 7 (48:10):
Right now? I'm gonna get I'll get with Rick Mayine
and catch back up with you, mar and soup. We
can do that maybe at all the stores, okay, right, yeah,
well we got to get you know, that's a that's
a lot. But we may do that. We may do that,
and that, you know, doing things like that is one
of the reasons why we have such high Google reviews.
I was looking at this this morning. On our website.
You can go down to the bottom of our web
pages and you can see that are Google reviews like
(48:32):
a Hundai right now, it's averaging four point seven and
there are It's incredible how many five star reviews up
there are out there. Just talked about what a great
experience they had with the sales team, what a great
experience they had with the service team, and it's just
five star review after five star after five star after
five stars. Now that's not to say that we're one
(48:53):
hundred percent perfect, because we do drop the ball every
now and then. We do make mistakes like anyone does.
But from what I can see, you also do a
really good job of going back and making it wide
okay when we do make a mistake. But yeah, just
check him out. I mean he's literally just Payjeck for
Paygeck to Paygeck for page of five star reviews.
Speaker 5 (49:11):
That's awesome.
Speaker 7 (49:12):
Yeah, it is pretty proud of these guys.
Speaker 5 (49:14):
You should be. Yeah, sounds like they all deserve raises.
Speaker 7 (49:18):
Well, your race becomes effective when you do.
Speaker 5 (49:23):
That's why I never get one here.
Speaker 7 (49:28):
Hey, these guys, they do a great job, that's for sure.
Speaker 5 (49:31):
Yep, I got you all right, all right, stay out
of trouble. So there you have it.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
We'd love to put him on the spot, don't you.
Speaker 5 (49:40):
Sometimes Well, I mean I think I asked a couple
of legitimate questions, you know. So, hey, I want to
make mention of this, and you know I'm not an
NBA fan, but this guy played in the time when
the NBA was halfway decent decent, and coached when the
NBA was halfway decent. Lenny Wilkins passed away. He was
the former coach and player for the Eveland Cavaliers. His
(50:01):
connection to Cleveland was left on both sides of the court.
As a player, he served as the team's point guard
from nineteen seventy two to nineteen seventy four. He earned
NBA All Star owners in seventy three. Later returned as
the head coach from eighty six to ninety three, guiding
the Cavaliers to the playoffs in five of his seven
seasons and setting the franchise record for most regular season
(50:22):
coaching wins with three hundred and sixteen, a mark that
still stands today. On March twenty sixth of twenty twenty two,
he was inducted into the Cavallliers Wall of Honor, and
beyond his tenure in Cleveland, his legacy extends across the
basketball world. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball
Hall of Fame as both a coach and a player.
Was also recognized as one of the NBA's seventy five
(50:44):
Greatest Players and one of the league's fifteen greatest coaches
of all time, an honor that reflects his influence on
the game. So, you know, very very guy that commanded respect,
very influential and realistically, the only thing that kept the
(51:05):
Cleveland Cavaliers from competing for an NBA title was Michael
Jordan into Bulls. So at that time, Yeah, so, I
mean sad day for basketball, not just not just the NBA,
but just sad day for basketball because Lenny was just
a really good dude.
Speaker 4 (51:20):
Well, when I was getting ready this morning for work,
I had, of course, had the TV on in the background,
and this this came up about the passing of him,
and I don't know who was being interviewed at the time,
but said that just a nice person. Yeah, you know,
you know, you just there's certain people in this world
that are just naturally a nice human being. That was
(51:41):
what was said about Lenny Wilcomes. Again, I can't I
can't tell you who made that statement. I was multitasking
this morning, but you know said that he was just
a nice human being. So it's not a great day
for Cleveland sports. Oh no, the now, maybe you can
explain this time, and we got to go to a break.
We can explain to him when we get back. What
(52:02):
is going on with the Guardians and their pitchers?
Speaker 5 (52:04):
Well, I know it was Emanuel Classe and Luis Ortiz.
They've been indicted on charges related to a sports betting investigation.
The two are believed to be involved in a scheme
to intentionally throw balls during games so betters could wager.
Speaker 4 (52:19):
So but they're facing multiple charges up to twenty years
in prison. I mean, it's it's yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (52:26):
Don't have that story. I mean I don't have that
part in front of me. But I mean, if they're convicted,
it could be ugly. And then I mean obviously they're
probably going to be banned from baseball.
Speaker 4 (52:32):
Yeah, why are fraud, bribery, money laundering? These are not
small small things. A twenty eight you're listening to the
bloom Daddy experience coming up, We've got another chance for
you to win. We got a family four pack for
Saturday to the Nailers. That's going to be coming up
here very shortly. The bloom Daddy Experience Sam and Otis
News Radio eleven seventy WWVA thirty six on this Chilli
(53:01):
Monday Morning, The bloom Daddy Experience Otis and Sam News
Radio eleven seventy WWVA. I personally saw my first snow
this morning driving in coming from the higher elevations. I'm
sure it's probably calmed down by now, but yeah, saw
the first snow of the season for myself. So be
a little bit careful out there if you're coming from
(53:21):
the if you're coming from the heels and the higher elevations,
so yeah, take your time.
Speaker 5 (53:27):
It's sticky anywhere, is it.
Speaker 4 (53:29):
No, it was sticking on the road. Yeah, yeah, interesting, Yeah,
it was snow. It was snow mixed with I don't
know if you want to say hail frozen rain, I
don't know, but frozen rain is snow, I guess. But anyways,
you have something you want to let everybody.
Speaker 2 (53:44):
Know about it.
Speaker 5 (53:45):
Yeah. Just Tomorrow is Veterans Day and the Pap Club
in South Wheeling at forty four to ten Jacob Street
is offering a Veterans Day breakfast from nine am to noon.
It's free to all men and women that are veterans.
It's also open to non members and for responders as well.
Looking at some of the menu, hear cream, corn, beef, eggs, toast, sausage, bacon, donuts, coffee,
(54:07):
all on the list. And if you are a veteran,
you are encouraged to bring in any of your medals,
your ID tags, your hats, photos, memorabilia, et cetera to
share with everybody. So the Veterans Day Breakfast from nine
am to noon at the pap at forty four to
ten Jacob Street in Wheeling.
Speaker 4 (54:22):
And if you have a local business, if you're doing
something to celebrate the veterans tomorrow, whether you know you're
a restaurant or anything you know, you can email us
Sam at iHeartMedia dot com with the details and we
will put that out there to let everybody know of
the celebrations or what you're doing tomorrow for the veterans.
All you have to do is email Sam at iHeartMedia
(54:44):
dot com. Speaking of the military, military, today is the
two hundred and fiftieth birthday of the Marine Corps two
hundred and fifty years old, YEP yeah. So it says
on November tenth, seventeen seventy five, the second Continental established
the Continental Marines. There are going to be multiple celebrations
(55:05):
at across the country, at several different cities.
Speaker 5 (55:09):
So I have a friend that's a retired marine. Okay,
they'll tell you they're never retired, huh. And every year
on the Marine Corps birthday, he gets a birthday cake
Premiy's wife.
Speaker 4 (55:20):
Really yeah, Oh that's special.
Speaker 5 (55:22):
Yep. So I want to thank all my friends that
are marines. Just throw a couple of names out there,
Dave and Todd, so you know, I know there's a
few more out there, but those are the first two
that popped into my head.
Speaker 4 (55:34):
So two and fifty years old.
Speaker 5 (55:36):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (55:38):
A couple other local stories. Want to let you know about.
A food drive is underway at the Public Library of
Steubenville in Jefferson County. All library branches are serving as
drop off sites for non perishable food items. Collections will
go to local food pantries. Collections will be accepted until
the first Saturday of December. The US Department of Agriculture
(56:02):
has directed states to issue only partial benefits under the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program better known as snapped instead of
full Instead of full benefits, about two hundred and seventy
five thousand West Virginians rely on SNAP to help feed
their families. Governor Morrissey has directed eleven million dollars to
(56:22):
food banks and activated the National Guard to help distribute aid.
During the government's shutdown, the governor praised the Trump administration
while criticizing Congressional Democrats for the shutdown. That's where it
needs to stop. At this point in time, The criticizing
needs to stop. You all need to get in a
(56:43):
room and come to some sort of decision at this point,
and nobody's winning, and nobody is going to win this
in this shutdown crisis. Nobody is going to win. So
tuck your tail between your legs and have the conversations
you know don't want to have. Basically. Also, West Virginian's
(57:03):
filing period for the twenty twenty six primary election begins
on January twelfth. Seventeen of the thirty four state Senate
seats are up for election, along with all one hundred
members of the House of Delegates. Secretary of State Chris
Warner says his office has already held statewide meetings with
county clerks to prepare for the election. Warner is encouraging
(57:24):
high school seniors to register to vote and to become
poll workers. So a few local stories there.
Speaker 5 (57:33):
Well, it appears that the government shutdown could be ending. Yeah, yeah,
it's very close. I'm just looking at a story that
was it's relatively.
Speaker 4 (57:41):
All just just popped up.
Speaker 5 (57:43):
Yeah. It says that the US Senate on Sunday took
the first big step toward voting on a bipartisan deal
and that's good. It would reopen the government fully until
January thirtieth, so we're going to have to go through
this again in two months. And there's some modern Democrats
that are defecting from the rest of their party, marking
the biggest turning points since the shutdown, and it's causing
(58:04):
some immediate political blowback, is what it says. But anyway,
just that's a quick update. So you know, we're a
week after the election, right, so it maybe have taken
may have taken a little bit longer, but you know,
I think that they realize that they're not helping anybody.
Speaker 4 (58:21):
Well, I think another part of this conversation with with
the snap benefits is you know, why are we not
having the more important conversation as to why forty four
million Americans are dependent upon these.
Speaker 5 (58:37):
First off, it's not a way of life. It's supposed
to be there to help you. Thank you when you
are you know, possibly maybe you lost your job, or
possibly you've had some health issues or something of that
nature and you can't work. I understand that, and I'm
all for helping those people. But I know people that
are on that have been on Snap benefits, food Stamp,
(59:01):
that are generation. It's generational. Their parents were on them,
their kids are on them, now their grandkids are on them.
Because they don't they're just lazy.
Speaker 4 (59:09):
That's what I said to somebody last week. This this
came up and I and I said exactly those words generational.
There's the upper class, there's the middle class, there's the
lower class, and then there is the generational living off
the government class. And that is what has happened. But
I think that's the bigger conversation. The A lot of
people are missing when it comes to this, the the benefits.
(59:34):
Why are there so many Americans living on them? And
I had somebody say to me last week, well, there's
no jobs. There are jobs. I work with many business owners.
And that's that's just right here in the Ohio Valley
many business owners who are desperate for employees, desperate for employees,
people won't work, They will not work.
Speaker 5 (59:58):
Howt of them can't pass the drug.
Speaker 4 (01:00:00):
And that's that's another part of it. That's another part
of it. As we watch more and more marijuana not facilities,
what's the term distilleries, not just distilleries booze, Sorry, open up,
but but there's so many. Again, why are we not
(01:00:21):
having the bigger conversation as to why so many Americans
are dependent on the government to survive? And and this
goes back to and I've seen plenty of clever means
on social media. You know what we saw happened in
New York City last week, the socialists that won. Listen, folks,
if you think that's if if if people in New
York City think thinks that's the direction we need to go,
(01:00:43):
does socialism The government can feed you, The government can
also starve you. When it comes to socialism.
Speaker 5 (01:00:53):
Just as Benezuela asked the Soviet Union, ask about how
it all worked for him.
Speaker 4 (01:00:57):
Well, ask people on benefits currently who aren't get their money.
That's kind of what we're seeing right now. So anyways,
I don't want to go down that.
Speaker 5 (01:01:05):
Run, you know. And again, you know, these things were
meant as a bridge to be of assistance to those
that needed it. It's not, and it's I don't and
I don't think that there's a person out there that
would say, hey, if you know, I understand, you were
in a car accident and you can't work, and you
didn't have great insurance, and so you're you're you still
(01:01:28):
need to pay your bills, and you still need to
feed your family well until you can get back on
your feet, you know. And there are the there are
the exceptions to the world that they're they're just not
able to work, you know, they're you know, I get
that part.
Speaker 4 (01:01:45):
But how many able bodied people are are receiving those better?
Speaker 5 (01:01:50):
I mean, out of all the people that are receiving them,
I would say that it's probably less than ten percent
that are the ones that truly are deserving I want
to say deserving, but truly need it right.
Speaker 4 (01:02:02):
And I think it also opens the door to the
conversation to the American work ethic and pride. I think
I think we're losing that here in this country. A
good hard day's work, earning a paycheck, taking care of
your family, putting food on your own on your table.
I think that's becoming, unfortunately the minority of a lot
(01:02:24):
of American citizens. There isn't that pride of working a
hard day's work. We're losing a lot of that. Yeah,
this is the time. I mean, we really need to
to reevaluate the rules and regulations of who receives what
from this country. And for some reason that conversation isn't happening.
I don't know why. Eight forty five. You're listening to
(01:02:45):
the bloom Daddy Experience. Samon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA,
eight fifty one. Welcome back to the Blue Daddy Experienced,
Sam and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Excuse me.
Coming up, we're gonna have your last chance to win
(01:03:07):
this morning. We've got another family four pack for the
Saturday Home Nailers game, which you said is first Responders Night.
Correct Saturday's first Responders Night. So we've got your family
four pack for those. We're gonna have that here at
the very end of the show. So that's coming up.
Wendy's is in the news Wendy's plans to close about
(01:03:28):
three hundred of their stores or restaurants across the US
over the next year to improve profitability. Interim CEO Ken
Cook I almost said Kevin there said the move affects
only a small portion of the chain's six thousand US locations.
Cook told analysts that that consistently underperforming stores will be
(01:03:48):
shut down to protect the Wendy's brand. The closures will
begin this year and continue through next year. So a
couple Wendy's stores across the nation will be closing. I
don't know if any of them here locally or on
the list.
Speaker 5 (01:04:02):
I'm going to say probably not.
Speaker 4 (01:04:04):
Now they're always busy when I go away.
Speaker 5 (01:04:06):
Yeah, the only one that I can. I'm not even
gonna say that because that's I don't want to.
Speaker 4 (01:04:10):
Assume, So okay, okay. And then some folks are starting
to notice an issue with their streaming television. YouTube is
starting to issue twenty dollars credits credits to YouTube TV
customers who still don't have access to Disney owned channels.
(01:04:30):
So if you are a YouTube TV subscriber means you
do not have access to ABC, you do not have
access to ESPN, and other of the Disney owned products,
which then entails you can't watch a lot of ABC Sports,
which right now is college football, ESPN, which is college football.
(01:04:52):
So I think this is now in college basketball. So
I think this is now week two of this non agreement,
and people are starting to get angry. The two companies
have been unable to so far reach a deal that
would continue to let YouTube YouTube TV customer c channels.
Like I said, like ESPN and ABC. The credits start
(01:05:13):
going out today and no deal is reached as of yet.
So people are not happy when they can't see their football.
You can't take away people's football. So anyways, I thought you, Oh,
I was looking at you. I thought you were going
to say something. I don't have YouTube TV. We did
and we got rid of it. We don't have YouTube TV.
Speaker 5 (01:05:36):
I don't have it either.
Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
No, you just have a few things, don't you.
Speaker 3 (01:05:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:05:40):
I mean I pay I pay way too much for
whatever I do stream because I don't I don't watch
half of them. Oh oh, I know, like I have
Amazon Prime, I have Apple TV, I have Paramount plus.
Peacock and Friendly are the ones that I pay for.
Speaker 4 (01:05:57):
M okay, so yeah, they're there's so many out there
at this point. It's just it's funny.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
Though.
Speaker 4 (01:06:03):
Yesterday watching football, I saw a commercial came up for
Direct TV and they're trying to get people back.
Speaker 5 (01:06:12):
But wether they also now you don't need a dish,
you can stream them. Yeah, so that's that's their big
selling point right now. They're selling their streaming service.
Speaker 4 (01:06:19):
Yeah, they're trying to get into the game.
Speaker 5 (01:06:21):
But you were talking about college football. Your Buckeyes crushed
pur Due thirty four to ten over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:06:26):
They did.
Speaker 5 (01:06:27):
Jeremiah Smith had almost one hundred and forty yards receiving
to go with a touchdown. And number one Buckeyes are
now nine to zero and we'll host Ucla. Nothing says
Big ten football like a highest date Ucla. Yeah, that'll
be Saturday night. And the Mountaineers, which I was at
that game, they improved the four and six after taking
down Colorado twenty nine twenty two. So college basketball. I
(01:06:49):
was also at the game yesterday. I was a Morgantown
guy this weeknd.
Speaker 4 (01:06:52):
You should have just stayed.
Speaker 5 (01:06:53):
Well, I would have, but then then I'd have had
to pay more to watch my dog. Oh. West Virginia
improved to three and oh after bashing Lee High six
nine forty seven. They host Pitt Thursday Night, will be
getting on Tony on Wednesday?
Speaker 4 (01:07:06):
Are you going no?
Speaker 5 (01:07:07):
Uh well, if the tickets are still downstairs, I might.
Panthers are two and no and they entertain Eastern Michigan Tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
So so were you a fan of Seinfeld?
Speaker 5 (01:07:18):
Yes? No, okay, I mean like it was. I watched it.
I appreciated it, but.
Speaker 4 (01:07:24):
It wasn't like it wasn't a mussy.
Speaker 5 (01:07:27):
I mean it was, but I mean it wasn't my like,
like I don't I don't go back and watch the
reruns like I do with Cheers and Mash and things
like that.
Speaker 4 (01:07:36):
So well, because once the joke is out for some reason,
the joke in that show, like it's not a go
back to the bucket joke type of show.
Speaker 5 (01:07:46):
Like I mean, like if it's like here's the thing.
So if it's on, I'll end up I'll probably end
up watching. But like none of the streaming services I
have really carry Seinfeld.
Speaker 4 (01:07:57):
So oh yeah, well here the reason I bring this up. So,
the first time I ever heard the term dingo was
bye right. So, but in Queensland, authorities are reviewing whether
to reclassify dingoes as cannie familiar scientific word there, which
(01:08:24):
would permit keeping them as pets. Now I think of
a dingo.
Speaker 5 (01:08:29):
As basically familiaris tried again, K nine familiar heiress.
Speaker 4 (01:08:35):
Familiar heiress. That doesn't sound right to me anyways, It's.
Speaker 5 (01:08:38):
Like familiar with this on the air? Ok? All right, fine,
Basically it's a dog.
Speaker 4 (01:08:43):
Basically it's a dog, but it's like the Australian version
of a coyote. Now they're current They currently are classified
as an invasive species, prohibiting their sale, feeding, or ownership.
Now they are trying to make them so that they
are can be kept as pets. But dingos will continue
to be protected in national parks and landholders will still
(01:09:05):
be able to take action to protect their livestock livestock
from the wild dog or dingo attacks under the General
Biosecurity Obligation. Wildlife experts oppose the proposal. Dingle dingoes are
not dogs. What did I say? Dingles? Dingoes are not dogs.
(01:09:27):
They are a distinct species that are very uh genetic,
and they're they're violent, don't do well in home environments
as domestic dogs, much better able to escape traditional domestic
household and home environments. Basically, would you want a coyote
as a pet? No, these people are saying you don't
(01:09:48):
want a dingo as a pet either.
Speaker 5 (01:09:50):
What about the people that get wolves as pets?
Speaker 4 (01:09:52):
Well, you know they're probably not the.
Speaker 5 (01:09:54):
Half half wolf, half dog.
Speaker 4 (01:09:55):
Yeah, take a gander at who those people are. Might
not be high on the genetic spectrum if you will.
Speaker 5 (01:10:03):
Wow, there's a shot, Pikes.
Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
All right, here's a shot. How about you want to
I'll end this on a nice note. Your chance to
win one eight hundred sixty two, four eleven seventy. We've
got a family four pack to the nailers this Saturday night,
one eight hundred six to four, eleven seventy. We're gonna
do caller number twelve this time, caller number twelve. One
eight hundred six two four eleven seventy. Have a good Monday, everybody.
(01:10:28):
We are out of here.
