Speaker 1 (00:01):
Ze number one touch show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain, and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
The bloom Daddy Experience.
Speaker 3 (00:22):
It's seven oh six on news Radio eleven seventy. Mondays
are always my favorite day of the week because there's
just so many different things to talk about. I mean
three big topics as we begin this next week, and
I'm going to hit on all three of them. One
of them is Donald Trump. The other one of Shore Sanders.
But I want to start off with the passing of
my good friend Bill Carpenter last week.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Now.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
I found out Thursday night when Sam called me to
tell me that Bill had passed away. Somebody had reached
out to her. I was going to say something on
this show Friday, but I couldn't. I just mentally, emotionally
wasn't ready to do it.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Now.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
I'm not going to get emotional. I'm not going to
shed a tear. I've already done that over the weekend.
Bill had a great life, but this guy was in
every sense of the word a soldier. I mean, what
he did in Vietnam with Tiger Force, what he did
defending this country, how he loved the military, loved this country,
(01:21):
spoke at every event that anybody asked him to speak at.
Just a wonderful human being. And him and I had
a great relationship. I mean, he started telling the Orangutang
story on WWVA.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
I mean he told me a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
How long it's been, but I want to say the
first time he told it was probably two thousand and
eight somewhere in there, and he's told the story ever
since because so many people every time he tells it,
they're like, who is that guy? Who's the guy that
fought the Orangutang. I mean, I still get that today
when I go out, I heard that guy talk about.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Fighting the Orangutang. If you didn't know Bill.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
As much as you love that story, if you knew him,
you'd have a greater appreciation for it. And man, you
want to talk about a guy who knew his military history.
I mean, whenever I had a question involving the military,
I called Bill Carpenter. Whenever I had anything anything at
all to do with the military, I called Bill Carpenter.
(02:23):
This guy was a walking encyclopedia when it came to
anything involving military history.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
He was just unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
I'm gonna miss the voicemails he would leave me because
Bill called me damn near every other week, and he
started off every text or I'm sorry voicemail with hey,
dirt bag, don't you love me anymore?
Speaker 2 (02:48):
You can't call your buddy back?
Speaker 3 (02:49):
And then he'd go on to leave some sort of
long message and I would just sit there and laugh,
and and I called him back. I don't want you
to think that I didn't call him back, but every message,
hey dirt don't you love me anymore? We were supposed
to go eat at Cracker Barrel this past weekend. Told Joe,
I wasn't gonna get emotional when I'm not. We had
(03:11):
planned to go eat at Cracker Barrel this past weekend.
Every year, I take a lot of days off around Christmas,
and that's when I try to just reconnect or make
time to sit down with people that are close to me.
And Bill was one of the closest. So when I found
(03:32):
out Thursday night, it was just devastating. And from what
I found out from the family. He just wants cremated,
no services. I mean, this guy should should have had
full military honors at his burial, and apparently he did
not want that. This is a guy who took time
(03:52):
out of his day to attend every military funeral, give speeches, talk,
and at the end of the day he didn't want
any and I think that says a lot about him.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Still wanted to go rabbit hunting with me too. Not
gonna be able to do that.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
But I will tell you this, as long as I'm
employed by iHeartRadio, I will play that orangutang story of
Bill Carpenter describing fighting that orangutang when he was seventeen
years old outside of Fort Bragg. I will play it
every year in his honor on Veterans Day.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
Tough one, tough one, but great guy.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
I mean, just an absolutely wonderful, wonderful human being. All right,
let's jump over a big story in the NFL. Obviously,
should wear Sanders. I watched the game, obviously, and look,
some bright spots, some nights not so bright spots. But
I will say this, I have not watched him play
six quarters. I've seen more out of Shedar Sanders and
(05:03):
six quarters than I did out of Dylan Gabriel in
five and a half games. As a matter of fact,
the Brown's three longest pass plays of the entire season
all took place in that game yesterday against the Raiders.
I mean, I think the kids got some potential. Am
I sitting here saying that Shdore Sanders is the savior
(05:24):
the Browns have been looking for since Bernie Cosar?
Speaker 4 (05:27):
No?
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Am I saying that there is potential here? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (05:32):
I am based on what I've seen, and I think
this kid's only going to get better the more he goes. Look,
if you're a Browns fan, you gotta like the moxie.
You gotta like the confidence, you gotta like the gunslinger
attitude because you haven't seen it since they ran Baker
Mayfield out of town. So from that standpoint, I think
the Browns may have something here. And I'll tell you
(05:54):
what if he pans out of quarterback. With Quinnshawn Jenkins,
and Dylan Sampson in the backfield, Harold Fan and Junior
Mason Graham on defense, Swesssinger on defense, they have a
chance to turn this franchise around, but they've got to
address the offensive line. I mean, my god, is that
(06:14):
offensive line bad. I didn't think there was the worst
offensive line in football until I watched that game yesterday.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
And then I realized, yeah, there is. It's the Raiders,
but not by much.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
But Senor Sanders, I'm seeing some glimpses of things that
get me excited. And I think the rest of Brown's
nation is too. And last, but not least Trump. I mean,
just think about what transpired on Friday. Marjorie Taylor Green,
his biggest supporter since day one. He trashes her, and
(06:45):
at the same time, he's breaking bread with Mandanni in
New York City. Actually it was in DC, but New
York City's new mayor. I mean, what you want to
talk about voting the political world upside down? Donald Trump
did that on Friday. I just wonder where this is
(07:06):
all going. And I'm actually concerned because the more he
turns on people that support him, the more that's going
to turn people off who supported Donald Trump. Because no
matter what you say about the guy, I mean, I
think all of us want loyalty out of our friends
in this guy. As soon as you're question him, as
soon as you go against him, he throws you out
(07:27):
like a piece of garbage that is not going to
resonate with a lot of people, specifically Independence, which if
you take a look at a lot of polls, they
cannot stand him right now, and Independence decide elections. It's
going to be a very very interesting next couple of years.
You're listening to The bloom Daddy Show eleven to seventy WWVA.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
More to come on this Monday.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
Morning, Good morning to seven nineteen. We're off to a
good start the bloom Daddy Experience. Sam and Otis News
Radio eleven seventy wwva. Somebody must have been in here, Otis, because.
Speaker 6 (08:08):
No, I think that was my fault.
Speaker 5 (08:09):
Oh well, because I think.
Speaker 6 (08:10):
That was from Friday when we were doing something else
and I took it out of program so it wouldn't
go out over the air.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
Well, somebody was in here messing with stuff because I
about lost my ear drums. Somebody had messed with the
volume in here, like or.
Speaker 6 (08:23):
The cleaning people could have bumped it.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
Oh yeah, there's that too, all right, So okay, I'm
not putting the blame on anybody, but I'm awake now.
Holy Toledo, Holy moly, yep.
Speaker 6 (08:37):
It's Thanksgiving week. Short week for us, and we have
your chance to win.
Speaker 5 (08:41):
Well, before we get into those, just real quick, we
did have a question on our text line, which is
seven zero four seven zero if you ever want to
reach us seven zero four seven zero. Start the message
off with bloom Daddy says, are you two going to
be live next week? Monday through Wednesday and Friday?
Speaker 6 (09:00):
So meaning this week?
Speaker 5 (09:02):
Yes?
Speaker 6 (09:02):
Yes, so Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, yes, yes.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Friday no, No.
Speaker 6 (09:08):
It's a it's a technically holiday. It's a holiday, although
I'll still be here, probably because I'll probably have to
load the weather and then possibly do the news on Friday.
Speaker 5 (09:16):
Oh excuse me, the behind the scenes yeah, which.
Speaker 6 (09:20):
Which means you'll have to be up early Friday morning
because I'll have to figure out how to Oh.
Speaker 5 (09:26):
You're gonna need my code.
Speaker 6 (09:28):
Yeah, Oh unless I can get that fixed today, oh
or before before Friday.
Speaker 5 (09:33):
It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter. We had another text
over the weekend. I don't know. Somebody was bored over
the weekend. I don't know. It says I love being
a winner every day with the two of you.
Speaker 6 (09:47):
They love what.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
I love being a winner every day with the two
of you. So they're winners because they get to listen
to us every day, I guess. And I'm not making
this up. It's real. It's a real time.
Speaker 6 (10:00):
Yeah, so I would say thank you.
Speaker 5 (10:03):
We're just gonna be nice and say thank you.
Speaker 6 (10:09):
If we're the best you can do. You've got issues
stop but no name on that.
Speaker 5 (10:21):
No, no name, no name, but very not. Hey, listen,
it is nice. I'm just I will take I will
take a nice positive reinforcement to kick off the week.
I will take it. I will take it. How was
your weekend?
Speaker 6 (10:34):
It wasn't bad.
Speaker 5 (10:35):
Can I share the picture of your outfit last night?
Speaker 6 (10:38):
Absolutely? Okay, I get another one. There's one just a
me solo that Okay.
Speaker 5 (10:43):
Send me that one.
Speaker 6 (10:43):
Yeah. I participated in the ogil By five k last night.
I think it's called the Twinkle Trot.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
The Twinkle Trot, not the Turkey trot that we've talked about.
Speaker 6 (10:55):
I'll be doing that Thursday. Feet provided yeah, oh my
feet were killed me this morning. I haven't walked in
a while. I did that. I did that five k
without any training.
Speaker 5 (11:06):
So or but you were lit up in everything I tried.
You know, I mean not not in the fun adult way.
Speaker 6 (11:14):
I know that. I know that there were people out
there that were like they were the people that were
signed up with me from the cardio drum class. They
were all getting all fancy, you know, do dads and
everything else. So I went to the dollar Store and
tried to you know, you didn't want to be left out. Yeah,
(11:35):
you know, So I spent I don't know, I had.
I had to go to a couple other places because
the dollar store Santa heads don't fit my fat head.
Speaker 7 (11:44):
So I.
Speaker 6 (11:47):
Had to spend more than a dollar for santahead. I
probably have five of them. I can't find anything.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
Oh no, no, you have an especially large cranium. Is
what you're you're getting at.
Speaker 6 (11:58):
It's knowledge. Most of it were.
Speaker 5 (12:00):
Well, we're in the same boat there together. Brother, I'm
full of useless information.
Speaker 6 (12:06):
Well ful of it that far. You're fool of something.
Speaker 5 (12:11):
No, you're talking about the Santa hats. I had to.
I went to light Up Night Saturday night in Saint Clairsville, which,
by the way, I kind of flooded our feed with
a lot of different stuff from that night. But it
was beautiful. It was a fun night. But does anybody
else at the end of every winner put away all
of your things and I I mean, like your gloves
(12:33):
and your hats, and you know, you think to yourself, Okay,
I'm gonna put them here, so next year when I
need them, I know exactly where they're at. And then
the next year rolls around and you can't find them.
I ran around like a chicken with my head cut
off Saturday trying to find gloves. I have more pairs
of gloves than any human needs. I really truly do.
(12:57):
In Every year I go to find them and I
can't find them. And every year I put them away
and I say to myself, don't forget, this is where
you put them. They're all together, YadA YadA, YadA, And
every year I can never find them again. And that
happened to me Saturday night. So what did I end
up doing? I ended up buying another pair of gloves
(13:18):
because it was cold, and of course I couldn't find them.
It drives me nuts. But I will say this, As
I was digging through coats trying to find the gloves,
I found one hundred and twenty bucks.
Speaker 6 (13:30):
There you go. That's always that's always a benus.
Speaker 5 (13:33):
So that ended that ended up being I came out
ahead on that one. I will say I definitely came
out ahead on that one. Yeah, one hundred dollars bill
and twenty so yeah, yippie for me. I was happy
about that one. But then it went straight into buying
groceries yesterday. So it came and went just as fast
as your paycheck does. But you were mentioning before I
(13:55):
cut you off the what we're doing today?
Speaker 6 (13:58):
Oh yeah, we got your chance to win, got multiple
chances to win. First up on the DACA will be
a family four pack to this Sunday's WVU Mercyhurst basketball game,
Family four pack, and then we will also have two
tickets to see the Motown Christmas Special and two tickets
to see the screening of A Christmas Vacation with Chevy
Chase coming up on December ninth, and you will get
(14:21):
to hear our interview.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
We will be speaking with him with.
Speaker 6 (14:25):
Chevy Chase later coming up here next after the news here. Yeah.
So when you're happy, yeah thirty five.
Speaker 5 (14:33):
So when you're having this much fun, it goes incredibly fast.
Oh so, yeah, we have fun.
Speaker 6 (14:40):
We have fun.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
Oh blink, it's like a field goal, kid, er blink,
that was I hit the microphone. That's what that noise was.
I liked it. I talk with my hands when I'm
happy and I get excited. See I just did it again.
I talk with my hands and sometimes the microphone gets
a the way. Listen, I'm human, I'm hearing. Yes, did
(15:05):
you just say? Really? Guess what else starts this weekend?
Santa and Missus Clause on our sister station ninety seven
to three. Starting Saturday, they're going to be broadcasting Santa.
Speaker 6 (15:19):
Actually, isn't it? It's what it's called.
Speaker 5 (15:21):
Yeah, what did I say, Santa Clause? I wasn't done.
I wasn't done. Santa and Missus Clause will be broadcasting
live from the North Pole reading letters to Santa from
all the kiddos here from the Ohio Valley. So if
you have little ones, whether they're yours, are the grandkids, listen,
(15:41):
tune in. It's a great time Santa and Missus Clause
reading the letters. And if you want to write a letter,
or you have some kiddos that want to write letters
to Santa, just go to the Ohio Valley Mall and
pick up one of the postcards that go to Santa
the letters, or you can pick them up at the
local bellm Want Savings Bank locations, so we are in
(16:03):
the festive spirit. Did you do?
Speaker 6 (16:05):
That's because you know what, We're three days away from
thanks almost time.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
This is your Thanksgiving countdown.
Speaker 5 (16:14):
Only three days left to hone your turkey carving skills
and purchase the most important carving accessory, a first aid.
Speaker 2 (16:21):
Kid.
Speaker 8 (16:22):
Why is there a finger in my turnips?
Speaker 6 (16:25):
Thanksgiving three days away?
Speaker 5 (16:28):
Who has turnips at Thanksgiving? Oh? No, the most important
tool was the electric knife.
Speaker 6 (16:37):
Till you cut off a finger.
Speaker 5 (16:38):
Until you cut off a finger, then.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
You need the first a kid.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
Yeah, yeah, Did you go to the Christmas bread Friday?
Speaker 6 (16:44):
No?
Speaker 5 (16:44):
Oh, okay, I.
Speaker 6 (16:45):
Heard it, although I was where they were setting up.
Oh yeah, I was where I was. They was right
there on Market Street and I could see all the
flutes outside getting ready to take their trip down to through.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
I heard it was a really, really nice parade. It
was a really good turnout, So congrats to the city
and the planning team and everybody to put all that
work into the the Wheeling Fantasy in Light Parade. It
was the fortieth annual, fortieth annual parade, so congrats to
all of them. Which, by the way, do you notice
those beautiful windows out front Nope, of course you didn't.
(17:21):
Somebody worked really hard on decorating those windows. I'm not
gonna say who. Seven twenty eight. Coming up next, we
are talking to the legendary Chevy Chase, the Bloomdaddy Experienced,
Sam and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Welcome back
to the bloom Daddy Experience here on news Radio eleven
(17:42):
seventy WWVA. Of course I'm Sam, he's Otis. But joining
us now a very familiar voice. If you're a fan
of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, the iconic Christmas movie, which
is coming here to the Capitol Theater in Wheeling December nine,
please welcome to this show, actor, comedian, and of course
(18:03):
the star, mister Chevy Chase. Good morning, sir, thank you
for your time this morning. This is Sam So, I'm.
Speaker 7 (18:13):
Sorry, I can't talk this is. I can't speak with you, Sam.
I have to talk to Otis.
Speaker 6 (18:18):
Oh I like that. There you go.
Speaker 7 (18:20):
I'm sorry, Otis. Let me talk to Sam. Yeah, I'm
coming there on December night.
Speaker 5 (18:30):
Yes you are, and we're so excited to have you.
This This is this is really really exciting for our
area and people are a buzz about having you here
and Wheeling that's very nice.
Speaker 7 (18:42):
Why did they call it wheeling?
Speaker 6 (18:44):
It is a it's an Indian name that was used it.
We're on the Ohio River.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
That I don't want to hear about. Otis.
Speaker 5 (18:52):
This is gonna be fun.
Speaker 6 (18:53):
Yes, this is gonna be great.
Speaker 7 (18:55):
Actually, it is gonna be fun. It's gonna be fun.
We're gonna have a good time. I like doing it,
and well, I love doing it, and I've never been
to Wheelings, so that's kind of kidding with you. But
I'm happy to come.
Speaker 6 (19:10):
Well, we're happy to have you, that's for sure.
Speaker 5 (19:12):
Absolutely absolutely, So I want to kick it off with
this question. So, of course National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is.
It's a must watch for many people at the holiday season.
It is my number one just by the way, even
though you didn't want to talk to me first, it
is my absolutely number one Christmas movie. Christmas does not
happen until I watch your movie. So do you have
(19:34):
an annual holiday much must watch in your household? I
have what I must watch holiday film in your home
like your iconic is for us. Do you have one
for your own home?
Speaker 7 (19:47):
No, we don't watch film or television. Yeah, we actually
we do. Okay, which one is the old one? But
oh no, Jimmy Seward, Yes, there you go.
Speaker 6 (19:59):
It's a wonderful life.
Speaker 7 (20:00):
You let me do it. It's wonderful life. It's a
wonderful life. Baby.
Speaker 6 (20:03):
Yeah, it's a great movie. It's that's another Christmas classic.
You know, it's when we when we talk about Christmas classics.
Was there something in Christmas Vacation that related to you
that you can remember, like, did you take something from
your personal experience and bring it to the movie.
Speaker 7 (20:21):
Well, do you ask that question again and make it clearer?
Speaker 6 (20:24):
Okay, sure, when you when there's there, you got me again?
You got me again?
Speaker 7 (20:33):
What's the question?
Speaker 6 (20:34):
So if you did you do you have a do
you have a family tradition or something that you that
you took from your personal life and brought it to
the movie Christmas Vacation?
Speaker 7 (20:44):
Oh no, no, not really. I mean, even though my
wife does say that I'm like Clark Griswold, you know,
I slapp her around a little bit and then she
stopped saying it. But I'm not like Parks. But I no,
(21:04):
I can't think of anything. I mean, it's just you know, Frankly,
at this point in my life, I'm just about family,
and that means that there's five of us there enjoying
each other and enjoying the holiday. But holidays don't mean
that much to us so much as being together. Sure,
so it's that kind of thing.
Speaker 6 (21:26):
We actually posed a question to our listeners if they
wanted to ask, if they wanted us to ask you
a question. And we have a question from one of
our listeners.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
Yeah, this is from listener Dave and asked he's asking
how many parts in the movie allowed you to reminisce
on your own past Christmases? And was filming the iconic
attic scene as emotional for you as it was for
us that get to enjoy the film.
Speaker 7 (21:52):
They have to say no to that. Oh okay, it
means nothing to me an actor, and I just do
what they tell me. No, well, no, I'm not sure
I understand. Dave. A life Sam, It's I'm talking to
(22:15):
Sam right now. Yes you are alone, Yes you are Samantha.
Speaker 5 (22:22):
No, it's it's just Sam. But but I like when
I like that you say Samantha. That sounds very professional.
I appreciate that. Does it, sir? Does it continue to
surprise you how how iconic the film has has grown
year after year after year. Did you think it would
get to this point back at the beginning.
Speaker 7 (22:43):
It does. Yeah, yeah, it does. It's rather amazing to me.
But you know, I find it. I think it's a
good movie too. Uh. It's just one of those things
that people enjoy. I'm just very happy about that. I
don't get paid a lot of money or anything else.
(23:05):
I'm just happy about the the fact that people like it.
Speaker 6 (23:09):
Well, it's become very generational, so the people that saw
it originally are now sharing that with their kids and
their grand kids and so on and so forth.
Speaker 7 (23:17):
Yeah. Yeah, I mean that's what people tell me. And
I'm kind of surprised. But you know, in retrospect, when
I made the movie, I had that feeling that it's
gonna last, you know, not as you know, I guess
(23:38):
it is a surprise on the one hand. On the
other hand, that's what I wanted. That's what I tried
to do, make it so that people would enjoy that
every Christmas.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
And speaking of when you visit us here and Wheeling
on December ninth, what is it like touring with the
film across the country and you get to see people's
reactions as they're watching the film. What is that like?
That's got to be so much fun for you to
see the fun that you have brought to so many people.
Speaker 7 (24:08):
A lot of laughter, it is, It's true, you know,
what happens is generally speaking, I mean, I'll get there
somewhere around the middle of the movie and be in
the back obviously because I'm not on the stage yet,
and I can hear them laughing, and it's very, very lovely.
(24:30):
And then when I get out, it's even bigger laughter
because of how awful I look. No, because because they
just they just love to hear from the actual you know,
movie star from the movie. It's it's just something for them.
And I love seeing these big audiences. I never get
(24:51):
to do that. It's it's so it's a rare enjoyment
for me.
Speaker 6 (24:58):
So Clark Griswold is is an iconic character in American
film lore. But I have to be honest, my favorite
Chevy Chase film is Fletch, and my favorite character is
Erwin R. Fletcher. But I do have a question for
you about Fletch. How much Irwin, Yes, how much of
the movie of Fletch did you just improvise? How much
(25:21):
was that improvisational comedy, because some of it just seems.
Speaker 7 (25:25):
So nastally Quite frankly, I improvise a lot in all
my movies, and the director has to be aware of that,
and it's a lot of fun to be able to
do that. Not everybody gets that chance, So it's a
lot of improvisations. As long as I'm in the right
(25:47):
lighting area, stay in the right place in the movie
and whatnot. They pretty much tell me, go ahead and
do what you want. Well after I've done maybe one
take of the actual writing, then I pretty much just
go with it. Well, nothing, A lot of that is
just smooth.
Speaker 6 (26:08):
Nothing may be happier than when I walked into a
restaurant in Orlando, Florida, and on the sandwich menu they
had a John Cock coctos.
Speaker 7 (26:16):
Oh yeah, John cocktosto. By the way, everybody thinks this
cock poasts them, but it was just cocktoasto at the end.
Speaker 6 (26:26):
Okay, So we're we're really looking forward to having you
here in the Friendly City on Tuesday, December ninth for
your Christmas vacation. With the question and answers, is there
anything you'd like to tell the friendly folks here and wheeling.
Speaker 7 (26:39):
Yeah, I'll be there on December twenty nine. I'm sorry, okay,
and where is this a good wheeling?
Speaker 5 (26:49):
Yes, wheeling West Virginia.
Speaker 7 (26:51):
I can't believe you do. Actually fell for that.
Speaker 6 (26:53):
Yeah, West Virginia, the home of Jerry West. By the way,
what West Virginia. Yeah, Jerry us is from West Virginia.
Speaker 7 (27:01):
Oh fight, Oh isn't that amazing?
Speaker 5 (27:03):
So well, we can't wait, can't wait to see you.
Speaker 7 (27:06):
Yes, yes, yes, it is. Yes. Anyway, here we are
we look for yes.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
All right, thanks so much for joining us today.
Speaker 7 (27:19):
You're very welcome. It's fun to talk to you.
Speaker 6 (27:21):
Thank you, alrighty you you have a great day.
Speaker 5 (27:23):
Safe travels YouTube. Okay, bye bye, bye bye. There he
goes the Clark Griswold. Yes, Chevy Chase, the Irwin R.
Speaker 6 (27:34):
Fletchers.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
There you go.
Speaker 6 (27:35):
Yep, you can't forget the R because Irwin Fletchers. Yes,
he was six six and six nine with the zephyro.
Speaker 5 (27:43):
On that note, we'll.
Speaker 6 (27:45):
Take it out.
Speaker 5 (27:55):
Seven fifty one. Welcome back on your Monday. The Glen
Daddy Experience samon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. All right, otis.
We have our chances to win later on. We've got
Chevy Chase coming up, we've got Motown, and we've got
WVU basketball. But I have a joke for you all
(28:16):
in the ind the Thanksgiving theme, since it is, of
course the week of Thanksgiving. Why did the turkey join
a band?
Speaker 6 (28:26):
Probably something to do with drumsticks.
Speaker 5 (28:28):
Because he already had the drumsticks.
Speaker 6 (28:31):
Yeah, you'd have been better off with the one you
asked me off air.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
Well, I was going to save that one, okay, So
we'll save that one for next time, for next time
you want to talk some football if you won, okay.
So over the weekend, of course, yesterday it was a
big football day. The Steelers fell thirty one twenty eight
in to the Bears in Chicago. Mason Rudolph, of course,
(28:56):
started for the injured Aaron Rodgers and threw for more
than one hundred and seventy yards with a touchdown and
a pick for Pittsburgh, which has now dropped. They've now
dropped four of their six most recent games. The Steelers
host the Bills Sunday afternoon. The Browns took down the
Raiders twenty four to ten on the road, Chadoor Sanders
(29:18):
through for more than two hundred yards with a touchdown
and an interception for his first career start. Meanwhile, the
Bengals fell to the Patriots twenty six to twenty at home,
despite Chase Brown rushing for more than one hundred yards.
Up next, the Bengals will take on the Ravens on
Thanksgiving Night for Thursday Night Football. Cincinnati is three and eight,
(29:42):
while the Browns shared the same record and host the
forty nine Ers Sunday afternoon. One takeaway from the AFC
North over the weekend. The Steelers, after they drop to
the Bears, are now tied for first place with the Raiders,
I mean with the Ravens. I'm sorry. They are now
tied for first place with the Ravens, but currently Baltimore
(30:02):
holds the tiebreaker if we were to end the season today.
But here's the kicker. Those two teams have not played
each other yet. They will play each other week fourteen
and week eighteen, so we will see what happens with that.
A little bit of other Steelers news, TJ. Watt is
now ahead of a familiar face for the all time
(30:25):
sack list. The defensive end passed his brother JJ after
recording his one hundred and fifteenth career quarterback takedown. The
thirty one year old wrapped up Caleb Williams in the
end zone, which led to a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
The funny thing was his brother was broadcasting the game
when that happened.
Speaker 6 (30:44):
So yep, yeah, there's your football on this, there's your football,
and I have some hockey news.
Speaker 5 (30:48):
Okay, give it to me.
Speaker 6 (30:50):
The Nailers they split the weekend series with the Reading Royals.
The Nailers lost at home on Friday four to one,
but bounce back to take Saturday's game in Reading three
to one. Are at home on Wednesday for a seven
to ten puck drop against the Indie Fuel And if
you head the West Banko Arena for the Thanksgiving Eve game,
which is always a big one, you're going to be
treated to some IWC wrestling as well. That's the they
(31:14):
got that going on along with the game, probably not.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
At the same time, so there's a ring on one
end of the of the rink and then.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
No they just maybe they might have to put it
like in it stands or something. Anyway, of course, you
if you can't make it to the game. You can
always catch all the action on our sister station mixed
ninety seven to three. And just to let you know
that in the Eastern Conference, the Wheeling Nailers are in
first place with an eleven three and oh record and
twenty two points.
Speaker 5 (31:40):
Nice, what's the Who's right behind him?
Speaker 6 (31:42):
The South Carolina Stingrays and the Reading Royals. So good
distance or no, they're two points behind? Oh, okay, So
the Nailers are eleven and three, South Carolina's ten to five,
and oh Reading is nine four and two. And then
you have the Florida ever Blades and the Main Mariners
(32:03):
at nine five and oh or nine five one eight
four two and one.
Speaker 5 (32:08):
So going back a little bit to football, wanted to
mention the Browns Raiders game and Shador Sanders and that
whole thing. He had two hundred and nine yards, one touchdown,
one interception. People are very, very excited in Cleveland with
Shador and he had an eighty seven percent rating eleven
of twenty for passing. It is something to be excited
(32:29):
about as a Browns fan. But everybody, you know, I
don't want to be a naysayer. Cool your jets a
little bit. It was the Raiders. Okay, so they're not
not gonna they're they're two and nine after the loss
to US yesterday. And let's be honest, the Browns us
the Browns Okay, not you? Okay for the Browns, well
(32:50):
it's not you either. Oh okay, fine, If we're gonna
get technical, I will say this, the Browns defense had
ten sacks yesterday.
Speaker 6 (32:58):
That's because Oakland doesn't have or the Raiders don't have
a line.
Speaker 5 (33:03):
Yeah, that might as well be a sieve of a line. So,
you know, just a little little coolier jets, let's not
you know, go knots and get way too excited.
Speaker 7 (33:14):
You know.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
The funny thing is we got Thanksgiving coming up, and
of course when you think of Thanksgiving, what do you
think about food? Well, what's the main food?
Speaker 5 (33:25):
Turkey?
Speaker 6 (33:25):
Okay, okay, but chickens are in the news.
Speaker 5 (33:29):
Chickens, chickens. Okay.
Speaker 6 (33:31):
A driver has been sighted for a crash that happened
early Friday spilled live chickens across I five.
Speaker 5 (33:38):
Oh no.
Speaker 6 (33:39):
The crash happened to DuPont, Washington, and Washington State Patrol
said hundreds of chickens were on the freeway. I guess
it gives new meaning to why did the chickens cross
the road? At least dozens of the birds were killed?
Or yeah, and the driver told troopers that he fell asleep.
He was cited for second degree negligent drive. Even so,
(34:00):
oh man, there's way too many jokes in that story.
Speaker 5 (34:05):
Where did this happen?
Speaker 6 (34:06):
Washington, DuPont, Washington on I five?
Speaker 5 (34:09):
So you stole my joke?
Speaker 6 (34:11):
Which one?
Speaker 5 (34:12):
Why did the chicken cross the road?
Speaker 6 (34:13):
Well, I mean it's kind of obvious.
Speaker 5 (34:15):
Yeah, I know. I mean that's a softball.
Speaker 6 (34:16):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, you don't have a story about
chickens on the highway without saying something about the chicken
crossing the road.
Speaker 5 (34:24):
And all I can see is the chicken muppets that
were always with the chef, oh like they were like
the crazy for some reason, those are the chickens I'm
envisioning running across the street. You have I do have ecuse?
Speaker 6 (34:38):
Do you say issue issues? It's like opioid. I couldn't
say this morning. I still can't say it.
Speaker 5 (34:45):
Talking has been hard this morning, folks. It's been tricky.
Seven fifty eight. You're listening to the Blue Daddy Experience.
Salmon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
Ze number one talk show in the Ohio Alley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.
Speaker 5 (35:24):
Welcome back. It's eighth six on this Monday, The bloom
Daddy Experience otis and Sam News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Just real quick. Wanted to let everybody know in the
Woodsdale portion of Wheeling that leaf collection will continue this week.
Residents in the Woodsdale neighborhood should have their leaves at
the curb. Crews will pick up the leaves today, Tomorrow
(35:48):
and Wednesday. So if you've been doing some yardwork, there's
a little bit of update on what the city is providing.
The leaf collection will continue today through Wednesday. Wednesday. Also,
we've been talking it's Thanksgiving Week, the holiday season they
are predicting could be the busiest ever. TRIPAA estimates that
(36:11):
nearly eighty two million people will be traveling over the holidays,
which is up two percent from last year. The FAA
says it's expecting the busiest Thanksgiving travel season in fifteen years.
As airlines get up and running again after the shutdown,
The New York Times says more travelers will be traveling
by train and bus this year to avoid flight delays
(36:33):
and cancelations, but they are also saying that severe weather
may create poor traveling conditions in some of the country.
So depending on where you are listening to us from,
because you can listen to us from anywhere thanks to
the app, check check the flight delays in everything, because
you may be delayed. I am actually traveling for Thanksgiving,
(36:56):
looking forward to that. I'm just looking forward to the
good meal. I can't wait. I can't wait. Otis what
do we have coming up here? Very very shortly.
Speaker 6 (37:06):
We have the We're gonna have a chance for you
to win a family four pack to this Sunday's w
Mountaineer basketball game against the mercy Hurst Family four pack.
That'll be coming up here momentarily.
Speaker 5 (37:20):
Momentarily. I want to go back to our conversation with
Chevy Chase. Was that not fun?
Speaker 6 (37:28):
It was fun and it was hard because.
Speaker 5 (37:33):
There was somebody in the background.
Speaker 6 (37:34):
Well it was his hand, yeah, And so it was
the person that actually reached out to us and said, hey,
we have Chevy on the line, blah blah blah. Yeah,
so he's there, and then like Chevy was kind of
asking questions and he was chiming in. I mean, Chevy's
not a spring chicken by any means. And there we
(37:58):
got a text from Devo that I should probably read.
Oh okay, I don't know if I should read it
or not.
Speaker 5 (38:05):
But but how about paraphrase it?
Speaker 6 (38:08):
Well, no, it's it was he basically, it's as you're learning,
be careful. When you interviewed Chevy Chase, I always heard
he's a real oddball. And that's why his talk show tanked.
Speaker 5 (38:18):
I didn't know he had a talk show.
Speaker 6 (38:19):
Yeah he had. It was on very short lived. Oh
and why he didn't get much work after the Vacation series.
Speaker 5 (38:28):
I liked him on Community.
Speaker 6 (38:30):
Yeah, I mean it was I think, you know, when
you're when you're somebody like Chevy Chase, it's you don't
always have to be funny. And I think that I
think he was trying hard to be funny without maybe
us realizing he was trying to be funny.
Speaker 5 (38:50):
That was.
Speaker 6 (38:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (38:51):
I couldn't figure out if he was making a.
Speaker 6 (38:53):
Joke or yeah, you know, I mean once once it
gets out there, then you realize it's a joke. But
you know, you don't know what to expect.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
Yeah, Well, and it's it's got to be hard constantly.
Speaker 6 (39:07):
I mean, he probably had an interview, an interview right
after ours had won, right before ours. I mean, so
I mean he's probably doing interviews every back fifteen minutes
or whatever, because I mean he's going all over the
country to do these tours.
Speaker 5 (39:18):
So well that and you're talking about the same movie
over and over again, and he probably you know, oh
you're Clark Griswold. What's your favorite line, what's your favorite scene?
The same questions, back and forth.
Speaker 6 (39:30):
But and you know, to be honest with you, I mean,
we've done how many interviews. I mean, we've done Sarah Evans,
We've done the lead singer from Kansas, We've done.
Speaker 5 (39:40):
Shatner, Shatner, Ralphie, Ralphie.
Speaker 6 (39:44):
I mean this was probably the hardest one, Yeah, because
like you don't know where it's gonna go, and you
just you know, the answers were kind of I.
Speaker 5 (39:56):
Will say this, he did light up. You could hear
a differ tone in his voice when you brought up
the fletch question about the.
Speaker 6 (40:04):
John yeah, I can't even say the name anymore.
Speaker 5 (40:06):
The menu, seeing it on the menu.
Speaker 6 (40:08):
At the bar, I can't remember. My buddy and I
went down for the Camping World Bowl. I think it
was Dan Holgerson's last year at WU, and so we're
down in Orlando and we see this little Mexican restaurant
when we figured it's like, you're gonna go in and
sit down, but it's kind of like a Chipotle, you know,
like sort of fast foods or semi fast food, you know,
(40:30):
but they make it in front of you. And then
one of the sandwiches was the character from that he
used in Fletch, and I ended up taking a picture
of it and sending it to a guy that he's
one of the dads of the team. My son played
on for travel Ball at one point in time, and
because he was a huge Fletch fan, and I texted
it to him, he goes, that's amazing. So I can't
(40:53):
even remember the name of the restaurant.
Speaker 5 (40:54):
But as soon as you said it in that interview,
sometimes it's something different different. Yep, exactly exactly. We bring
that up because we spoke to Chevy Chase earlier in
the show. If you missed that interview. You can go
back and listen to it along with any of our
past episodes on the iHeart app or wherever you stream
(41:15):
your audio. Just search the bloom Daddy Experience and it
comes up, and then each each day is up there
by date of episodes, so you can go back and
listen to the Chevy Chase interview or anything else that
we've done on the iHeart App. And again we bring
up chevy Chase because he's gonna be here. We're a
(41:36):
screening of a Christmas vacation and then doing a Q
and A session and we're gonna have your chance to
win tickets to that. Here. A little bit later in
the show, what are you laughing At?
Speaker 6 (41:47):
From David and he makes a very good point here
he says chevy chase Is style of humor reminds me
of and Andy Kaufman from Taxi. You're never really sure
when he's joking, when he's serious, or when he's just
lost these.
Speaker 5 (42:01):
Yeah, boy, Jim, it was Jim Carrey that played him
in the document Move in My Goodness God, that was
a great film. There's a documentary out since we're talking
about eighties comedians, Well, we've kind of gone down that route.
But there's a documentary out on I think it's prime
about John Candy, and I think his daughter has done it,
(42:23):
and I really want to watch it, but I'm afraid
it's going to make me sad. I absolutely loved John Candy,
Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors. Yeah, he was just Splash.
I mean he was in Splash.
Speaker 6 (42:37):
Who's Harry Crumb?
Speaker 5 (42:38):
Who's Harry Crumb? Yeah? There was just and and Macaulay Culkin.
I believe his featured in it. He talks about being
on Uncle Buck with him and how he Candy almost
I don't want to say protected, that's not the right term,
but distanced him from his dad in the overwhelming pressure
(43:02):
of being a child actor and you know, letting him
be a kid on the set and not you know,
being a crazy adult in that world. But I have
seen that and I want to watch it, but I've
got to be in the right frame of mind, because
I just I love John Candy. One of my favorite
movies ever is The Great Outdoors, which you've never seen, right.
Speaker 6 (43:21):
Yeah, I'm not he's John Candy fan. I mean, he's
all right, but I mean it's just like there's a
I mean I think there's other comedians out there. It
just seems like he plays the same person in The
Cool Runnings. He didn't, but you know, yeah, but I mean,
you know, he seems like he plays almost like the
same character.
Speaker 5 (43:39):
Yeah, kind of the big, like the big, goofy, dopey
uncle character.
Speaker 6 (43:44):
Doesn't you know that always has something go wrong?
Speaker 5 (43:47):
Yeah, yeah, I get that.
Speaker 6 (43:49):
Yeah, he's got to and then he's got to kind
of work his way out of it.
Speaker 5 (43:52):
So yeah, but there's a lot of actors that play
the same part. Denzel Washington plays the same part in
every movie, it seems like. So no, yeah, no, well
we will agree to disagree.
Speaker 6 (44:05):
No, I mean, if you've ever seen The Terminate or not,
what is an equalizer? He doesn't play the same character
as he did in what wh he's the drunk pilot, Yeah,
I know, or the Train or Gladiator two or I
mean they're.
Speaker 5 (44:18):
Seventeen Gladiator two.
Speaker 6 (44:19):
You're not missing anything.
Speaker 5 (44:20):
That's what I've heard. That's what i've heard. All right,
let's do it. Let's do our first chance to win
this morning. We've got a family four pack to WVU
basketball game winning. It's this Sunday, Sunday.
Speaker 6 (44:31):
I'm not sure at the time yet, I don't have
that in front of me, but they are taking on
mercy Hurst.
Speaker 5 (44:35):
All right, let's do it one eight hundred six two
four eleven seventy one eight hundred six two four eleven seventy.
Let's do caller.
Speaker 6 (44:43):
Number sixteen sixteen.
Speaker 5 (44:45):
All right, one eight hundred six two four eleven seventy
It is eight sixteen haul. You did that on purpose,
right the Bloe Daddy Experienced samon Otis News Radio eleven
seventy WWVA, welcome back. It's eight twenty one on your Monday.
(45:08):
Congratulations to our first winner of the morning. Buck. Buck
is going to see the West Virginia Mountaineers take on
Mercy Hurst this Sunday for basketball. So congratulations to Buck.
But we are not done yet. We have two more
chances for you to win coming up next, very very
very shortly. We have a pair of tickets to Motown Christmas,
(45:31):
which is happening December thirteenth. Thats gonna I'm like yelling
in here.
Speaker 6 (45:36):
Sorry about that.
Speaker 5 (45:37):
It's okay.
Speaker 6 (45:37):
We had multiple I was multitasking and you couldn't turn
it down for ye, So gorying to get a line.
Speaker 5 (45:42):
Up that will be our next chance to win, so
stay tuned for that. But he's he's back.
Speaker 6 (45:49):
It's gonna say a week of vacation.
Speaker 4 (45:52):
A week of vacation. You're right, man, how y'all doing
this morning?
Speaker 5 (45:54):
Good are you?
Speaker 6 (45:55):
But there's something we have to start off this. We
have to start this off with. Okay, happy anniversary.
Speaker 7 (46:02):
Thank you.
Speaker 4 (46:02):
I appreciate that you believe that Jody has put up
with mate for thirty four years.
Speaker 6 (46:07):
No, yeah, I don't know how anybody puts up with
you for thirty four days.
Speaker 4 (46:12):
Oh wow, that hurts.
Speaker 6 (46:15):
I could have said minutes.
Speaker 4 (46:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (46:17):
Yeah, y'all had Chevy Chase on a while ago. That's awesome.
Speaker 6 (46:20):
Yeah, yeah, he was. Out of all the interviews we've done,
that was one of the weirdest.
Speaker 4 (46:26):
Yeah, well, you know Christmas viight cast man, that's the
ultimate movie.
Speaker 6 (46:31):
Not it's Yeah, it's a I'd say it's top three
or four for sure.
Speaker 4 (46:35):
Yeah, it's my it's my number one. I've got the
Grizzwold Jersey. I mean, I'm a hardcore. I got the
eighty hat.
Speaker 7 (46:41):
I mean.
Speaker 6 (46:43):
Last night when I participated in Ogleby's five K, there
was somebody that they were basically dressed up as cousin Eddie,
and then there was probably a handful of Clerk Griswald
hockey jerseys as well.
Speaker 4 (46:56):
Yeah, I bet, I bet. Now now speaking of ultimate, okay,
how about Black Friday sale that we've got going on
right now at all the strib locations. All right, there
are several sales that people wait for in the automobile business. Okay,
Memorial Day, Labor Day, you know, fourth of July. But
Black Friday is one of them that where the manufacturers
(47:18):
just go all out. They put they're really trying to
capture market share right now. And what we're trying to
do is just absolutely move every vehicle we can before
the end of the year. And in doing so, right now,
we've got every unit in stock. If you'll just log
into drivestrib dot com, you can see for yourself just
how much you can save. I have instructed every one
(47:41):
of these managers to do whatever it takes to put
every car deal together. Your trade has never been worth
more than it is today, So just you know, log
on check it out, see for yourself how much you
can save, and come on up here take delivery of
that vehicle you've been dreaming about.
Speaker 6 (47:56):
There you have it.
Speaker 4 (47:57):
That's it, man, making it easier and easier every day
for you to say.
Speaker 6 (48:01):
Are you glad to be back to work? Would you
rather still be?
Speaker 4 (48:03):
I had to be back to work, man. Nashville is
a lot of fun.
Speaker 7 (48:06):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (48:07):
We had a ba ask do these great foods, you know,
have a you know, barbon or two every now and then,
do a little dance and listen to some great music
and always a good time. It never never disappoints.
Speaker 6 (48:16):
But there's a time that you have to leave Nashville.
Speaker 4 (48:19):
Yes, yeah, no doubt. We've been there during the week
of the CMA so that was a lot of fun.
Speaker 6 (48:26):
Oh look at you. Yeah, you're a big time you
know that.
Speaker 4 (48:29):
Yeh, Well we didn't we didn't actually go to the Cuma's,
but we were there so it was cool to be
on Broadway while that was going on.
Speaker 5 (48:35):
Did you see anybody famous?
Speaker 7 (48:38):
Ah?
Speaker 4 (48:40):
Not not. I don't think that we have before. We've
seen Kid Rock, we've seen Morgan Wall and we've run
into some of them a couple of times, and that
that's always been fun.
Speaker 6 (48:49):
Yeah, there you have it. All right, Hey, short week
this week said we'll talk to you.
Speaker 4 (48:52):
Tomorrow, all right, guys, talk to you in the morning.
Speaker 6 (48:55):
All right, that's it.
Speaker 5 (48:56):
There he goes, have you ever gotten a car for Christmas?
Speaker 6 (49:00):
A car for Christmas?
Speaker 5 (49:01):
Like a gift? No, no, me neither.
Speaker 6 (49:05):
I just unless I bought it for myself.
Speaker 5 (49:07):
I just I always those ads that they put out,
and it's like the most romantic gift, you know. He
walks around blindfold and it's like, here's a brand.
Speaker 6 (49:15):
New on the car. I know they have the big
bows at Stobs, so yes.
Speaker 5 (49:19):
Well I've asked it. Yes, they do have the big both.
But it's always like, here's a twenty twenty seven Jaguar,
you know, Jaguar, Jaguar or whatever. I'm just trying to
think of a big expensive car and it's like, yeah, okay,
that's what I got. Socks, you know, like.
Speaker 6 (49:36):
Charlie Brown when he goes trigger treating. I got a rock. Yeah,
I got a lump of cole.
Speaker 5 (49:44):
I get that every day, my husband's socks.
Speaker 6 (49:48):
There you go, but nothing.
Speaker 5 (49:52):
Oh, you're looking at me like I'm I'm nuts.
Speaker 6 (49:55):
That's constant.
Speaker 5 (49:57):
Yes, I know. Speaking of of icy things. So the
Titanic is in the news again. A gold a pocket
watch that survived the sinking of the ship has sold
for more than two point three million dollars at auction.
The eighteen carrot Jules Jurgensen watch, carried by first class
(50:18):
passenger Isidor Strauss, sold for the record breaking price in
England on this past weekend on Saturday. The watch was
recovered from his body after the ship sank on its
maiden voyage in April of nineteen twelve. Straws and his
wife Ida were depicted in the nineteen ninety seven film
Titanic as the couple who refused to separate in their
(50:39):
final moments and perished in the disaster that claimed fifteen
hundred lives. I'm trying to remember that couple in that film.
I saw that movie so many times, way too many times.
I was one of those obsessed, obsessed viewers of that film. Okay,
you probably have not seen it.
Speaker 6 (51:00):
I've seen it, Okay, I wasn't obsessed with it.
Speaker 5 (51:03):
Now.
Speaker 6 (51:03):
I just remember, I think I told this story once before.
There was a when I still had my retail shop
and there was a lady that was working for me,
and her and her husband went to see Titanic, like
over the weekend or whatever, and she came back and
she said there were actually like high school middle school
kid aged kids in line behind them, and they said,
(51:27):
they were like, do you know the boat sinks? Like
they didn't know anything about the Titanic other than it
was a movie. And it's like, oh good lord.
Speaker 5 (51:36):
Well, our education, as I say, education at its best
went to local. Probably I posted.
Speaker 6 (51:44):
No offense, just kidding her.
Speaker 5 (51:47):
Yes, that that did dig at me. I posted your
your picture I saw from from the Twinkle Trot. Right,
Twinkle Trot.
Speaker 6 (51:56):
You gotta be careful how you say.
Speaker 5 (51:57):
Yeah, that's come out totally wrong. Yes, exactly, but people
are are quite impressed with with your your outfit.
Speaker 6 (52:07):
Yes you do my dollar store outfit.
Speaker 5 (52:09):
Hey, it looks pretty good. Team naughty team.
Speaker 6 (52:12):
I didn't come from the Dollar Store. Oh no, I
had to upgraded. I went to Walmart for that.
Speaker 5 (52:24):
You would hot clows hot.
Speaker 6 (52:26):
Class one step up from two steps up from the
dollar Tree, because that skip Dollar General Family Dollar and
went straight to Walmart.
Speaker 5 (52:34):
He's a high roller, folks. If you haven't picked up
on that yet, he's a high roller.
Speaker 6 (52:38):
I'll figure I'm not gonna wear it that often, so
I'm not going to invest a ton of money.
Speaker 5 (52:43):
All right, we have it. Your chance to win Motown
one eight hundred sixty two for eleven seventy We've got
a pair. Let's do caller number eighteen. Caller number eighteen
for your pair of tickets to see Motown Christmas Show,
December thirteenth, one eight hundred six two four eleven seventy mo.
Speaker 3 (52:59):
These are always it's my favorite day of the week
because there's just so many different things to talk about.
I mean, three big topics as we begin this next week,
and I'm going to hit on all three of them.
One of them is Donald Trump. The other one of
Shiore Sanders. But I want to start off with the
passing of my good friend Bill Carpenter last week. Now,
I found out Thursday night when Sam called me to
(53:19):
tell me that Bill had passed away. Somebody had reached
out to her. I was going to say something on
this show Friday, but I couldn't. I just mentally, emotionally wasn't.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
Ready to do it.
Speaker 3 (53:33):
Now I am. I'm not going to get emotional. I'm
not going to shed a tear. I've already done that
over the weekend. Bill had a great life. But this
guy was, in every sense of the word, a soldier.
I mean, what he did in Vietnam with Tiger Force,
what he did defending this country, how he loved the military,
(53:54):
loved this country, spoke at every event that anybody asked
him to speak at. Just a wonderful human being. And
him and I had a great relationship. I mean, he
started telling the Orangutang story on WWVA.
Speaker 2 (54:09):
I mean he told me a couple of weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (54:12):
How long it's been, but I want to say the
first time he told it was probably two thousand and
eight somewhere in there, and he's told the story ever
since because so many people every time he tells it,
they're like, who is that guy? Who's the guy that
fought the Orangutang. I mean, I still get that today
when I go out. I heard that guy talk about
fighting the Rangutang. And if you didn't know Bill, as
(54:37):
much as you love that story, if you knew him,
you'd have a greater appreciation for it. And man, you
want to talk about a guy who knew his military history.
I mean, whenever I had a question involving the military,
I called Bill Carpenter. Whenever I had anything anything at
all to do with the military, I called Bill Carpenter.
This guy was a walking encyclopedia when it came to
(55:00):
anything involving military history. He was just unbelievable. I'm gonna
miss the voicemails he would leave me because Bill called
me damn near every other week, and he started off
every text or I'm sorry voicemail with hey, dirt bag,
don't you love me anymore?
Speaker 2 (55:22):
You can't call your buddy back, And.
Speaker 3 (55:23):
Then he'd go on to leave some sort of long
message and I would just sit there and laugh and
I and I called him back. I don't want you
to think that I didn't call him back, but every message,
hey dirt bag, don't you love me anymore? We were
supposed to go eat at Cracker Barrel this past weekend.
I told jo I wasn't gonna get emotional when I'm not.
(55:45):
We had planned to go eat at Cracker Barrel this
past weekend. Every year, I take a lot of days
off around Christmas, and that's when I try to just
reconnect or make time to sit down with people that
are close to me, and Bill was one of closest.
So when I found out Thursday night, it was just devastating.
(56:10):
And from what I found out from the family, he
just once cremated, no services. I mean, this guy should
should have had full military honors at his burial, and
apparently he did not want that. This is a guy
who took time out of his day to attend every
military funeral, give speeches, talk, and at the end of
(56:33):
the day he didn't want any and I think that
says a lot about him. Still wanted to go rabbit
hunting with me too. Not gonna be able to do that.
But I will tell you this, as long as I'm
employed by iHeartRadio, I will play that Orangutang story of
(56:54):
Bill Carpenter describing fighting that orangutang who he was seventeen
years old outside of Fort Bragg. I will play it
every year in his honor on Veterans Day.
Speaker 2 (57:08):
Tough one, tough one, but great guy.
Speaker 3 (57:14):
I mean, just an absolutely wonderful, wonderful human being. All right,
Let's jump over a big story in the NFL. Obviously,
Shoudwar Sanders. I watched the game, obviously and took some
bright spots some nights not so bright spots. But I
will say this, I have not watched him play six quarters.
(57:35):
I've seen more out of shed War Sanders and six
Quarters than I did out of Dylan Gabriel in five
and a half games. As a matter of fact, the
Brown's three longest pass plays of the entire season all
took place in that game yesterday against the Raiders.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
I mean, I think the kids got some potential.
Speaker 3 (57:54):
Am I sitting here saying that Shudore Sanders is the
savior the Browns have been looking for since Bernie co Star?
No Am I saying that there is potential here. Yeah,
I am based on what I've seen, and I think
this kid's only get to get better the more he goes.
Speaker 2 (58:12):
Look, if you're a Browns fan, you gotta like the moxie.
Speaker 3 (58:14):
You gotta like the confidence, you like it, you gotta
like the gunslinger attitude because you haven't seen it since
they ran Baker Mayfield out of town. So from that standpoint,
I think the Browns may have something here. And I'll
tell you what if he pans out of quarterback with
Quinshawn Judkins and Dylan Sampson in the backfield, Harold fannin junior,
(58:34):
Mason Graham on defense, Swessinger on defense, they have they
have a chance to turn this franchise around, but they've
got to address the offensive line. I mean, my god,
is that offensive line bad. I didn't think there was
the worst offensive line in football until I watched that
game yesterday, and then I realized, yeah, there is.
Speaker 2 (58:54):
It's the Raiders, but not by much.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
But Shadr Sanders I I'm seeing some glimpses of things
that get me excited. And I think the rest of
Brown's nation is too. And last, but not least Trump.
I mean, just think about what transpired on Friday. Marjorie
Taylor Green, his biggest supporter since day one. He trashes her,
(59:19):
and at the same time, he's breaking bread with Mandanni
in New York City. Actually it was in DC, but
New York City's new mayor. I mean, what you want
to talk about putting the political world upside down? Donald
Trump did that on Friday. I just wonder where this
(59:40):
is all going. And I'm actually concerned because the more
he turns on people that support him, the more that's
going to turn people off who supported Donald Trump. Because
no matter what you say about the guy, I mean,
I think all of us want loyalty out of our
friends in this guy. As soon as you're questioning, as
soon as you go against, he throws you out like
(01:00:01):
a piece of garbage that is not going to resonate
with a lot of people, specifically Independence, which if you
take a look at a lot of polls, they cannot
stand him right now, and Independence decide elections. It's going
to be a very very interesting next couple of years.
You're listening to the bloom Daddy Show eleven to seventy WWVA.
Speaker 2 (01:00:21):
More to come on this Monday morning.
Speaker 5 (01:00:27):
A forty eight welcome back from bloom Daddy Experienced samon
Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Even though we're close
to wrapping it up, we're not done. We have another
chance for you to win. We've got a pair of
tickets to see Chevy Chase along with a screening of
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with a Q and a session
of course with the star Chevy Chase after the movie.
Speaker 6 (01:00:49):
And we want to congratulate Melissa who won the Motown tickets.
Speaker 5 (01:00:52):
Yeah, so yep, she's gonna get in the Christmas spirit
by seeing that great show that's coming here to the cap. So,
if you started thinking about Thanksgiving dinner, do you go
in with like a game plan or anything like that,
depending on who's going to be there like dealing with
the different personalities. You're looking at me like I'm nuts.
Speaker 6 (01:01:11):
No, I don't, Oh you don't.
Speaker 5 (01:01:13):
Okay, here's a reason I asked that, because half of
Americans have created conversation game plans for the upcoming holidays,
whether it's Thanksgiving or of course Christmas. Now this is
there's been a study done. Listen, they will do studies
on everything of two thousand adults across the country that
(01:01:34):
reveals that forty seven percent of adults prefer sitting at
the kids table. So they'd rather sit at the kids table.
But here's why they want to avoid uncomfortable discussions. Listen,
all you have to do is go in and make
just don't talk politics. Don't talk religion. Those are two
(01:01:55):
that just stay away from them. Politics, of course top
the list of the band topics, followed by finances and wait, yeah, yeah,
let's not talk about people's weight over Thanksgiving dinner, as
we're all sitting there stuffing ourselves. Instead, families gravitate towards
safer subjects like food and wine, So maybe go that route.
(01:02:18):
Don't talk politics, and good lord, did not say something
about somebody's weight. That's crazy. That is insane and this
is a crazy story. I just said, don't talk about politics,
but sorry, I can't help but bring this up. Otis,
do you remember the sham Wow guy from the infomercials?
Oh yeah, okay, Vince Vince how do you even remember
(01:02:41):
his name?
Speaker 6 (01:02:41):
Well, this is Vince from shamweck Well.
Speaker 5 (01:02:44):
Vince is throwing his hat into the ring in politics.
Speaker 6 (01:02:47):
Yeah, good luck.
Speaker 5 (01:02:50):
He's sixty one years old and of course he's an entrepreneur.
But he is one of five candidates that have registered
for the primaries in Texas for the thirty first congressional district,
so he is running. He is, of course, best known
as the sham Wow guy. Although the shamwows worked pretty
(01:03:10):
pretty darn good. We had a couple of them. They
were pretty good. But didn't he get in a bunch
of trouble like back in the day and he kind
of disappeared. I forget what all the controversy was, but
there was all kinds of controversy. Betwind behind that guy.
But yeah, could you imagine saying my government official was
the Shamwell guy and he's uh, he sold towels. It's crazy.
Speaker 6 (01:03:36):
It's no different than Gopher from the love boat.
Speaker 5 (01:03:39):
Did he run for something, Fred.
Speaker 6 (01:03:41):
Grandy, he was the Senator. I didn't.
Speaker 5 (01:03:45):
I didn't know that interesting. I was trying to find
I had something here. Now I can't of course I
can't find it. Yeah, love it, love it, love it,
love it. It was the the criminal dude. Oh here
he is, Okay, Florida once again, I was sorry, Florida.
(01:04:05):
Stupid criminals come out of Florida. I don't know what
it is. Maybe it's too much sun hits the brain,
but that seems to be where the majority of these
stories come from. Well, there's a guy. His name is
Anthony Day. He was arrested in Polk County after deputies
found him walking in the buff completely nude on broken
a arrow trail in thirty six degree weather. Most Floridians,
(01:04:32):
if it drops before fifty they think it's freezing. But anyways,
it was thirty six degrees. He's walking on this trail
completely butt naked. Commuter spotted Day and called authorities with
Tesla cammers capturing the incident. When deputies asked if he
was cold, Day claimed he wasn't and said he was
doing a TikTok challenge. Sheriff Grady Judd questioned the explanation
(01:04:56):
dating you don't even have your cell phone. You're really
naked when you don't have your cell phone. Day initially
gave false information about his identity and addressed to officers
the sheriff. Judd emphasized Day was not even wearing socks
when he was arrested, so from head to toe he
(01:05:17):
was in the buff. Day faces charges including disorderly conduct,
resisting an officer without violence, and exposure of sexual organs.
Authorities found no evidence supporting his TikTok challenge claim and
say the real motive remains unclear.
Speaker 6 (01:05:35):
Yikes, I have no desire to walk naked.
Speaker 5 (01:05:38):
Anywhere, thank you. Yeah, yay, I will. I will thank
you for that as as I do not either.
Speaker 6 (01:05:45):
I mean, like if I'm walking from the shower to
my to get my clothes, that's a different story. But
that's about the only time you're going to see me
walking around naked.
Speaker 5 (01:05:52):
Oh yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:05:53):
And most of the time I have a towel on. Yeah,
even if I'm home alone, like I'll wrap a towel
around me.
Speaker 5 (01:05:58):
I try not even to look in them. Or if
I'm walking around in my bathroom naked after the shower. Yeah,
there's just now. And I know people who like to
walk around naked, I really do. They like to walk
around their house naked all the time. I don't. I'd
let alone on a trail called broken arrow. That just
screams possible injuries. I don't know, you know what I mean.
(01:06:24):
Isn't it like I don't know?
Speaker 6 (01:06:27):
I hope the squirrels down attack going for your acorns
or that.
Speaker 5 (01:06:31):
Uh that woman was it last week? She got attacked
by the deer. The deer that's made national headlines.
Speaker 6 (01:06:39):
It's an old story, but it's everywhere.
Speaker 5 (01:06:41):
Yeah. Yeah, it came out over the weekend. So yeah,
so oh, I was, uh, what do we have coming? Oh,
we've got the Chevy Chase coming up, So still got
another chance for you to win. I'm ready for a
vacation and you're taking one and I am taking one
the next to the rest of the week.
Speaker 6 (01:07:01):
You are your only day.
Speaker 5 (01:07:02):
Yeah, you are riding solo tomorrow and Wednesday.
Speaker 6 (01:07:05):
Sort of. We might have some guest appearances.
Speaker 5 (01:07:08):
Oh okay, you're replacing me.
Speaker 7 (01:07:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:07:11):
I wouldn't say replace him. We just have we have
some we have. It's like having a substitute teacher. There
you get, and one of them actually is a substitute teacher.
Speaker 5 (01:07:20):
You're gonna miss me though, I know, right, I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (01:07:24):
No, I don't think so.
Speaker 5 (01:07:26):
Oh, come on, make me feel a little good.
Speaker 6 (01:07:30):
No, no, hey, what have you ever wondered what a filthy, rich,
evil genius is thankful for this week of Thanksgiving?
Speaker 5 (01:07:38):
Yes? No, no, okay.
Speaker 6 (01:07:41):
Well you're gonna find out anyway in this latest message
from the Amazon founder. I am Jeff Beasis.
Speaker 8 (01:07:48):
It is a tradition of mine this most festive period
to reflect on the many things for which I am thankful.
As always, I am appreciative that I am me and
not you. I'm grateful I have the massive means to
pursue the things that bring me joy, like space travel
and exploiting hourly workers before replacing them with roadbots. And
(01:08:12):
for the bove all else, I'm thankful for one certain
individual in particular, because you know who is spoken hot
with golden salgy skin and plump, juicy breast meat. Now, oh,
get your mind out of the gutter. I'm talking about
my Thanksgiving turkey past the gravy.
Speaker 6 (01:08:35):
All your mind mind straight that it got it?
Speaker 5 (01:08:41):
It did it really truly did. What's your favorite. I
cannot wait. My favorite thing for Thanksgiving are the mashed potatoes.
That's that's kind of what I've been craving.
Speaker 6 (01:08:53):
You can get mashed potatoes every day, I know, but.
Speaker 5 (01:08:55):
There's something about mashed potatoes and turkey and the whole,
the whole antel.
Speaker 6 (01:09:00):
Hold kitten kaboodle, whole kitten kaboodle.
Speaker 5 (01:09:02):
Yeah, that's when I'm uh, that's when I'm craving. I
can't wait. Sit down.
Speaker 6 (01:09:07):
And then the going out of town. I'm going out
of town so her house will be available if you
want to break in.
Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
Oh, thank you, that's nice. Yes, But the best part
about Thanksgiving is when you get the lean back on
the couch after you've fed your face and you just
plan it and you watch football. There's just that feeling
of like, h.
Speaker 6 (01:09:30):
Football, how you can work for it?
Speaker 5 (01:09:32):
Okay, I guess not whatever? Whatever?
Speaker 7 (01:09:36):
All right?
Speaker 5 (01:09:37):
One eight hundred six two four eleven seventy One eight
hundred six two four eleven seventy Give me the number.
Speaker 6 (01:09:47):
What's your chance to win a pair of tickets to
see Chevy Chase at the Christmas Vacation The Screening of
a Christmas Vacation Question and answer session afterwards. So let's
