Speaker 1 (00:01):
Indeed number one TUK show in the Ohio Valley. This
is the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His
goal inform, entertain and tick people off. The bloom Daddy
Experience on News Radio eleven seventy WWVA starts now.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
The bloom Daddy Experience. It's seven oh six on news
Radio eleven seventy. Well, good Monday and Happy New Year's
to you. Back in the saddle again after a two
and a half week hiatus, and I'll tell you it's
not easy because mentally I think I'm still checked out
a little bit.
Speaker 3 (00:35):
But nonetheless, here we go in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
There's a lot to talk to which talk about, which
I will get to in a second, But first I
just want to say I hope you had a chance
to spend some time with family and friends over the
holiday season.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
I know I did.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
One of the most I guess special things that I
got to experience, which I try to do every year,
is catch up with people that I haven't seen at
quite some time, and had a very good breakfast slash
lunch at Bob Evans and Martin Ferry with the King
of Stink, Save of the Bull, powerful Pierre, and of
course Otis.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
I mean just nice to catch up with.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
Guys who I've been around for a long long time,
haven't had a chance to really talk to over the
last couple of months.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
And yes, I picked up the tab.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Otis can vouch for that if if he wants to
back me on that, because the King of Stink will
go around telling everybody that I never pay and that's.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Simply not true.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Last two years, as a matter of fact, I have
paid for lunch, so Otis, at some point in time,
you're gonna have to buck up, my man and pay
for that breakfast. But just one of those special occasions,
a lot of family time, just good to sit back
and relax. Now I relaxed, and I was great, I
mean great until New Year's Eve.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
And I think you know where I'm gonna go with this.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
I'm gonna start off twenty twenty six by absolutely losing
my fricking mind on WTRF seven. Who in the hell
thought it would be a great idea to put a
big brown box up in the upper right hand corner
of the CBS signal so that it blocks out every
(02:09):
quarterback or every defensive play on the right side I'll
tell you who WTRF seven and I know a lot
of people complained and their response was, well, it's not us,
it's corporate.
Speaker 3 (02:21):
That's a lie. That is a lie.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
I worked in TV for a long time, trust me
on this one. There is no way that an individual
at corporate sat there and looked at that logo, which
was sponsored by WVU Medicine by the way, and I'm
sure they took a hit over this because that makes
them look really, really bad too. There's no way that
corporate took a look at that and said, you know what,
(02:46):
that's a really good idea.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Let's put a big.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Brown box that almost totally obscures a fourth of the
TV up there with WVU Medicine on it in a
countdown to New Year's Eve. Because we don't know when
Midnight's coming. We need that little reminder. I mean, you
want to talk about idiotic, you want to talk about stupid,
(03:10):
you want to talk I mean, name it. And I
know they got a lot of complaints, as they should have.
Carrie Brown's the new news director there. I've known carry
a long long time. She should know better. Somebody at
TRF should know better. And if it was from corporate,
you got to push back and you got to say, listen,
we got to make this a lot smaller. When it
(03:33):
comes to WTRF, they own making dumb decisions for decades.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
That's why nobody watches them.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
That's why they don't share their ratings with their employees,
because they're so bad that it's shameful, shameful, how stupid.
You know, I watch certain decisions and I sit there
and I think multiple people had to be sitting there
when that was proposed. Why wouldn't one person just one
(04:05):
step up and say, you know what, that might not
be a good idea, because people watching football on New
Year's Eve Day, they're gonna want to see the whole game.
They're gonna probably be upset if they can't see a
large portion of the game that's being played. You would
(04:28):
think somebody would step up and go, yeah, we can't
do this, but apparently not. Not a WTRF seven We're
making bad decisions is legendary. That should be their new slogan,
WTRF seven, where bad decisions are legendary because it's been
bad decision after bad decision after bad decision at that
(04:50):
television station over decades and they're worse than they've ever been.
They've got some talent over there. My man Paul Morgan,
very proud of what he's done over there. Now he
doesn't go by Paul Morgan on the air, but when
he was my board op here at WWVA, he was
Paul Morgan does a good job. There's actually a little
bit of talent over there. But my god, when it
(05:12):
comes to making decisions over there, you have got to
be kidding me, Sam and Otis. I know you have
to know exactly what I'm talking about with that big
brown square up in the corner of that TV set.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Okay, So, first of all, I'm so mad he beat
me to the punch on this one because that was
going to be my kickoff with with this morning, because
I have not seen my husband so infuriated as he
(05:47):
was on New Year's Eve day. Listen, folks, when it
comes to.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
That was actually New Year's Eve, right yew Year's because
it was well, there are a couple of things we
don't need to probably clear up. That was on the
ABC affiliate, not the CBS, because they were carrying the
Ohio State Okay game, that's what it.
Speaker 4 (06:07):
Was during Okay, it was on the ABC.
Speaker 5 (06:09):
It wasn't on CBS, No, no, because ESPN has all
those games, so it was on It was but ESPN
ABC Family of Networks, so it was on the ABC
affiliate of WTRF.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
Well, okay, listen. New Year's Eve Day in New Year's
Day are my husband's favorite two days of the year
because it is NonStop college football. He is a pro fan,
but he absolutely lives for college football. I don't care
if it's punks, a tawny, whatever college playing, he will
(06:44):
watch the game. He called me downstairs to the garage
where he was watching the football games. Yes, and the
garage and he said, what is that? And I said,
what are you talking about? I look up and here's
the thing, otis. It was wasn't even attractive. It wasn't
ugly brown box. It wasn't like for the course, Yeah,
(07:06):
but it wasn't even like colorful for New Year's Eve
or anything like that.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
It wasn't like no emojis or no like little like
fireworks or champagne glasses or banners or fireworks, or it wasn't.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Ugly brown balloons. Yeah. He looked at me and he said,
make that go away because he thinks I'm like, mister
miss technology whatever, because make that go away. I said,
it's I can't hees, why would anybody do this? He
was so mad. See, I did so frustrated.
Speaker 5 (07:35):
I don't. I don't get that because I stream my
espns and ABC's and so basically I had the national feed,
so when I was watching the game, I didn't I
didn't have that on there, so I didn't see it
at all because I do not get which is why
I wanted to make it clear that I did. I
don't get the WTRF feed of ABC. I have it
(07:56):
direct from ESPN because I stream it, so I did
not see it. Now I do get Channel seven CBS,
and I do get Channel nine NBC, but other than that,
I don't get any other local stations.
Speaker 4 (08:09):
Well as somebody that works on both sides of the business,
I understand the marketing value, sure I do. It was
too big.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
And it's probably too early.
Speaker 4 (08:20):
It was too early in the day, it was too big,
and it was located in a terrible position.
Speaker 5 (08:26):
I don't need a countdown clock at six o'clock on
New Year's Eve.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
No, you don't need a countdown clock.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
At noon, right, you want to put a countdown clock on.
Put it on at eleven pm, right right an hour before. Yes,
I don't. I don't need a countdown six hours before.
I know midnight's coming. Trust me, it happens every day.
Speaker 4 (08:45):
And the question is, well I make it to midnight.
That's how my New Year's Eve is.
Speaker 5 (08:49):
Now, let's go back to the beginning of the segment.
Speaker 4 (08:51):
Oh, the lunch that I was not invited to be
ahead the breakfast?
Speaker 5 (08:55):
Yeah, yeah, well again he said it was the guys
that he used to work with. Okay, first off, I
want to say this was the first year that I
was invited.
Speaker 4 (09:04):
Also, maybe I'll get invited next year.
Speaker 5 (09:05):
Probably not, probably not. Okay, Uh, you don't want to
be invited. Just with the stories that are being told,
you don't want to.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
Be invoted, Oh please, like it would bother me.
Speaker 5 (09:14):
I'm not saying it would bother you, but you just
don't want to hear them. I don't almost don't want
to hear them.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
You don't want the imagery.
Speaker 5 (09:20):
Yeah, because it's a flash It's like, you know, a flashback,
and you're going, oh my god, I kind of remember
that because I was probably drinking, like the one time
we did the show from Flanagan's for Saint Patrick's Day,
and there were some things that happened that that I
that I can't unsee.
Speaker 4 (09:35):
You've tried to get out of the brain.
Speaker 5 (09:37):
Yeah, so, but I will say this, bloom Daddy did
pick up the tab.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
Where did you go?
Speaker 5 (09:43):
We went to bob Evans, But after everybody had already
pitched in to pay for their meal. Mm, then he
decided that we were going to go that he was
going to pay for it. So everybody's meal money just
went to the waitress. So she made about one hundred
and twenty bucks in tips.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
Whoa merry Christmas?
Speaker 5 (09:59):
Yeah, so nice. And according to the King of Stink, huh,
bloom Daddy did not pay last year. He showed up,
he was, he intended to pay, but he forgot his
wallet all so the King of Stink had to make
the payment.
Speaker 4 (10:15):
Ah, I got it.
Speaker 5 (10:16):
So just to kind of clear that up, bloom Daddy
isn't as generous as he says he is. He did
pay this year, so can't we can't argue that. But
last year, again, I wasn't there. But according to the
King of Think, that was the first thing he told me,
because we walked in together to the Bob Evans.
Speaker 4 (10:37):
Well, nobody paid for me because I wasn't invited. Seven
sixteen on your Monday, Welcome back everybody, it is twenty
twenty six. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience. Samon
Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Seven twenty one on
(10:59):
your Monday Day, Welcome back to bluem Daddy Experience. Sam
and Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Boy, it sounds
really strange to say twenty twenty six, doesn't it.
Speaker 5 (11:10):
No, I just I'm I'm very proud of myself for
there was a couple of things that I had to
fill out, and I didn't write twenty twenty five on them.
I actually did write twenty twenty six. I didn't do
that now when you write checks, when people used to
write checks and like for the first month or six weeks,
you'd still be wutting the previous year on there. Well,
I filled out a couple forms and I actually didn't
(11:31):
even have to think about it. I just put twenty
twenty six.
Speaker 4 (11:34):
It feels weird to be back here again after what
three or four days?
Speaker 5 (11:39):
Well, yeah, I mean, you know, I mean we kind
of did the year end wrap up stuff last week,
and so we just we didn't really touch on a
whole lot of things. But before we left, we did
make some predictions.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
Oh yes, yeah, those went out the window, right.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
Yeah, you and I predicted or we had our picks
for the final four out of what you know, the
college football playoffs. So we took the four bowl games
on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day and we
made our picks. Needless to say, we both went one
for four. Yeah, we went one in three and both
(12:18):
of our national champions are out.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Yep, because didn't we both say like Texas Tech was
the team to.
Speaker 5 (12:25):
Be, Yeah, like it was going to be the sleeper.
And I'll say this, I didn't watch any other Bowl
games except for the four, you know, the the both
series games. And I actually was falling asleep during the
Old Miss game, but I woke up right at the end,
which was perfect when they kicked the field goal to
win it. I will say this, Uh, Miami is a
(12:50):
lot better than I thought they were. Yeah, Texas Tech's
offense was horrible. It was not the same offense that
I saw throughout the season. Maybe it's the layoff, maybe
it's not they just or maybe it was Oregon's defense
because maybe Texas Tech didn't see that defense all year.
(13:11):
But I would say this, I thought Texas Tech's defense
was great because the two touchdowns that Oregon scored, one
was on a fumble recovery that they started at the
five yard line and took it in. So I mean,
I'm not going to blame the defense for that. You know,
you got five yards to protect and the other one
was off of another turnover, and other than that, they
held them to field goals. So I will I will
(13:32):
say Texas Tech defense was all it was. Yeah, but
I think Oregon's defense was too, you know, the and
I'll say this, Indiana surprised the hell out of me.
I did not realize that they were as good as
they were, and how just the discipline, the execution. That's
(13:57):
the first time I've seen him play in reality. I
mean I didn't watch the Big Ten championship game or
anything like that. That was the first time I've seen
Indiana play. And I think they're the real deal.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
Oh, I do too. And here's the thing. Of course,
I watched the Ohio State game kept thinking about Devo
during the game, hoping he wasn't having a heart attack.
Speaker 5 (14:16):
And when say thanks to Davo because he dropped off
some Christmas.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
Course, yes, by the way, I thank you, Devo. You
talk about a defense with Miami, they came out with
their tails on fire. They were all over that field.
They were fast, they were fast, and you know, you
think of linemen, you know, the traditional big line. Nope,
(14:42):
not their guys. Their guys are stout, they're not overweight, and.
Speaker 5 (14:47):
They're they're big, they're fast, yes, yea.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
And and that's it's.
Speaker 5 (14:50):
Kind of like the old days of Miami.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
That's where they dominated. I mean, Ohio State could not
leg wise keep up with them, and I.
Speaker 5 (14:59):
Think they were caught off. I think I think I
think Miami plays a faster game than the highest state does.
You could see it, and I think I think you're
gonna see Indiana and Miami in the finals.
Speaker 4 (15:09):
Yeah, and that'd be a heck of a game.
Speaker 5 (15:11):
And I think, you know, and and it should. It
should be a heck of a game, you know, but
you know, obviously, and it's it's almost it almost worked
out the way they wanted it, because I think they
want big ten sec in the championship.
Speaker 4 (15:25):
Oh yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
And it still could happen because if Old Miss wins
and beats Miami, then they've got their SEC team, not
the one they wanted, because they wanted Georgia or Alabama
in there, because they draw the they draw the crowds,
and I think they would they would have. They want
Oregon or a high state and they're not Indiana. But
I think Indiana is is. It's a story, it is.
(15:50):
It's it's kind of Hoosiers. Yeah, yeah, it's Who's Yours Football?
You know? Uh and even though that is their nickname.
But I mean, if you take the movie Who's Your
like the long shot where they were three years ago,
where they are.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
Now, Yes, the progress as quick as it has been.
Well the other thing, I mean, I have to say this,
and and you know, to High State fans out there,
I apologize ahead of time, but we looked like we
were you know, Buckeyes looked like they were in slow
motion compared to Miami. And second half adjustments were made
(16:26):
sure and Ohio State was scoring. But that first half, man,
I looked at my husband, I said, this is this
is hard to watch.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
They were really wasn't I thought it was a great.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Well, I figured you you enjoyed it, but you know,
as a fan, it was hard to watch. But I
just kept saying, there they are dancing circles around us.
I mean, Ohio State looked like they were in slow motion,
and Miami was was sped up.
Speaker 5 (16:51):
I mean, but I think that's I think what what
you saw there was ten football against the faster paced
program because Big ten football is usually a little slower.
You know, it's always been you know, three three you know,
three three yards in a cloud of dust. You know, yeah,
(17:14):
you know, that's that's what it's always been. Of course
it's been opened up, but you know, recently because of
the passing game. I mean, Big ten teams have made adjustments,
but historically the Big ten's a slower conference.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Well and and saying is not a mobile quarterback and
with the defense like that coming at you, you have
to have a stronger.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
Well and it exposed their offensive line.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
Well, yeah, that too, And that goes back to the
slow the slowness, the reaction time. But you need a
more mobile quarterback when you have a defense like that
coming at you. And that's just not I don't think
who he is as a QB, I.
Speaker 5 (17:54):
Don't know, you know, I look at Ryan day and
he just irritates me to death. What he just like?
I mean, he just looks like he's a miserable human being. Okay,
you know, and I think he's I think he's a
lot cockier than he needs to be.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
Oh, like he's not enjoying the job.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
No, No, I just know. I just I just think
that he I don't know, but I'll think about it
and explain it to you. Okay, I know what I'm
trying to say, but I'm not being able to I'm
not able to get into cross.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
Okay, Well, we'll clarify that when we get back seven
twenty eight. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience here
on news Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
Speaker 2 (18:37):
Welcome back to the Bloomdaddy Experience on eleven seventy WWVA.
I also wanted to give a shout out to Jacob
and Son's Quality Meets of Martin's Ferry. First of all,
they've been an advertiser with me, I think since day
one here on WWVA.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
And I appreciate that. But when it came to.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Feeding my three adult sons twenty twenty six and now
twenty eight, if it wasn't for Jacob's Son's Quality Meats, I.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Don't know what I would have done.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Filaise, bacon, you name it. I got it from Jacob
and Sons and the quality is unbeatable. The other thing
about Jacob and Sons, if you've never gone and you
just have to go past the Martin's Ferry football field
and hang a left and boom, it sits right there.
If you've never gone and taken a look at what
they have to offer when you walk in there, up
(19:21):
on the board, they have every flavor of every sausage.
I mean, you name it, over one hundred flavors. I
don't know if there's another butcher shop, meet shop, call
it what you want in America that offers the flavors
the Jacob and Son's Quality Meets us. Just go there
to see what they These are flavors that are so
off the wall but so delicious. I think my man
Chops over there stays up at night just trying to
(19:43):
think up a different flavor.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
So if you've never tried it, you have to try it.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
And once again, Jacob and Son's Quality Meets and Martin's Ferry,
thank you so much for feeding the boys because they
absolutely loved it. All Right, if you're a Browns fan,
I fully expect Kevin Stefanski to be fired today. I
think you're gonna have a press conference, not sure what time.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
I'm thinking by noon, early afternoon.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
That's gonna announce a mutual parting of the ways with
Kevin Stefanski.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
And it's just simply time. It's just time.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
These two back to back wins at the end of
the season did nothing to change my mind on Kevin Stefanski.
I think he's a bad coach. I don't care if
he's two time Coach of the Year. I think he
caught lightning in a bottle with Baker Mayfield that first
year and then the playoff year of a couple of
seasons ago when they won eleven games. If you go
back and you look at it, we want it pretty
(20:33):
much every game at home against teams that were playing
with backup quarterbacks. I mean, I just want to put
everything in context here. I don't think this guy's a
good head coach. Over he had to turn over play
calling duties twice in the last two seasons.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
He's got a very undisciplined team.
Speaker 2 (20:50):
Hell, in the game yesterday, you had two unsportsman a
conduct penalties against defensive players returning touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (20:56):
The first one, okay, the second one.
Speaker 2 (20:58):
The guy still does the same that Devin Bush did
the first time, which shows me he only cares about
himself and he doesn't fear any type of repercussions. You've
got Larvin Ann fielding a punt inside the five yard line.
That's a cardinal sin in the NFL, and this is
the kind of special teams crap that you see all
the time. The mistake the Browns are gonna make is
(21:20):
keeping general manager Andrew Berry, which, for whatever reason, according
to what I'm hearing in Cleveland, he's safe. Stefanski and
Barry have been joined at the hip since twenty twenty.
Stefanski's the guy who constructed this roster. I'm sorry, Barry is.
Barry is also one of the guys who signed off
on NID Deshaun Watson deal. He's also one of the
guys who ran Baker Mayfield out of Cleveland. He's also
(21:44):
the guy who gave Stefanski the worst receiver room in
the NFL and the worst offensive line room in the NFL.
So if you're gonna get rid of Stefanski, which I
think is justified. How in the world do you hang
on to Andrew Berry? Then that brings me to who
in the hell even wants this job? Because no matter what,
(22:08):
and I want you to think about this, wherever you
may work, if you work in a dysfunctional place, it
all starts at the top and it trickles down. I
just talked in a previous segment about how dysfunctional WTRF
has been over the decades I used to work there.
I spent a decade there. We were dysfunctional because of
(22:29):
dysfunction at the top. So, no matter who you get
in here into Cleveland, you're gonna have to deal with
the Haslms.
Speaker 3 (22:39):
That's an issue.
Speaker 2 (22:41):
So, knowing what I know about the situation in Cleveland,
I think you've got to bring a veteran coach in
here who isn't afraid to turn and look at Jimmy
and d Haslm and tell them to shove it up there.
You know what, I'm gonna do it my way. I
don't care what you say, and this is how it's
gonna be done. Otherwise, you go with the young offensive
(23:03):
or defensive coordinator. They're not going to have the ball
bearings to stand up to the owners. Kevin Stefanski never
had the ball bearings to stand up to the owners.
Speaker 3 (23:13):
And I think unless you get.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
A strong willed, big time personality into that head coaching
spot in Cleveland, you're going to continue to have the
same old, same old problems.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
Sam, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this one.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
Oh, are you sure you really want to hear my thoughts? Okay,
we're not going to beat a dead horse when it
comes to the Browns. The season's over. I am going
to say this though. It does start from the top,
and it is the Haslums, and it is Jimmy Haslums,
Jimmy Haslam. I'm sorry, he is Jerry Jones two point zero?
What do I mean by that? He sticks his nose
in where it doesn't belong. I E the draft of
(23:52):
Johnny Manziel, I E the contract with Deshaun Watson. Now
I agree Andrew Barry needs to go. I agree Kevin
Stefanski needs to go. But you've got to understanding. You
have to recognize that the handcuffs were put on them
when you have an owner who dictates how to build
(24:13):
the team around somebody like Deshaun Watson. This guy has
sat back now for two years and is collecting a
major paycheck off the Cleveland Browns and he will for
years to come, and he does nothing. It is completely dysfunctional. Completely,
And here's the sad thing. Prior to Deshaun Watson and
(24:37):
that whole debacle which is the the catalyst for the
sinking of the ship, it was doing well for Browns
fans if you think back to Nick Chubb and Baker Mayfield.
The running out of Baker Mayfield completely changed the culture
in Cleveland that Stefanski and Andrew Berry was building. It
did it, truly, truly did, and from that moment forward,
(25:00):
the ship began to sink. Turning from that will highlight
what did happen yesterday for Cleveland, which was the record
breaking twenty third sack in one season by Miles Garrett.
The one glimmer of a bright, shining dogpile that this
season is is what Miles Garrett accomplished. Now, when it
(25:24):
comes to the coaches, I think defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz
should become the new head coach because the defense has
been the one positive in Cleveland this past season. But
congratulations to Miles Garrett for breaking the record previously held
by Michael Strahan and TJ. Watt.
Speaker 5 (25:42):
But yeah, Joe Burrow fell down.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
Well that's the controversy. YadA, YadA, YadA.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
It didn't look like much of a sack. Let's put
it that way. Neither did the one on Brett Favre. No, Okay, Yeah,
you know, and I understand.
Speaker 3 (25:55):
You know, maybe.
Speaker 5 (25:58):
You know, maybe Joe Burrow wanted to go in the
books as the guy.
Speaker 4 (26:01):
Well maybe you know.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
That he was the guy that got sacked to break
the record, you know, because your name's going to be
synonymous with it.
Speaker 4 (26:08):
Yeah, it wasn't one of those impressive laymb flat as
a pancake sacks. Yeah, no, I get what you're getting at.
And then there's also the controversy about the amount of games.
I believe Straighthan only did it in sixteen games, where
Miles did it in seventeen. So there's you know, there's
going to be you know, people are going to call
for the asterisk. But you can't help the era that
(26:31):
you're playing the game.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
In, and you can't help that the schedules changed where
you get an extra game. Yes, that's not the player's fault.
Speaker 4 (26:37):
No, no, exactly, you.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
Know, straight hand. Okay, I mean he's does he have
a valid point? Sure he does. He did it in
one less game.
Speaker 4 (26:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (26:45):
But if that's the case, then you're gonna say, okay,
well then Aaron judges sixty one homers don't count because
Babe Ruth did it in eight less games, you know,
or whatever.
Speaker 4 (26:55):
Right, Yeah, you can't. You can't hold that.
Speaker 5 (26:57):
Again that they don't count.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
But you know what I mean, yeah, you can't hold
against Garrett because of the point in time that he's
playing the game. Yeah. Yeah, so you know that is
the one highlight of course. Last night Ravens Steelers in Pittsburgh,
huge game, winner of the division, of course on the line,
and well, I don't want to say unfortunately. I mean
(27:21):
I could have cared less who won this game. But
the Ravens did not win. The Steelers won. It looked
as if the Ravens were going to come back and
basically take it out from underneath the Steelers. But big
old shank happened. By Loop? Was that his name?
Speaker 5 (27:42):
I'm sorry, I don't know, I wasn't watching.
Speaker 4 (27:44):
Yeah, oh man, I had it in front of me now,
Tyler Loop I'm sorry. It was only a forty four
yard field goal, which I don't want to say only
that's still a long field goal. But when we're seeing
fifty five yard field goals, you know, puts it a
little bit, doesn't seems as long as it really is.
But anyways, unfortunately for Tyler Loop, the Ravens are staying home,
(28:09):
so they did not win the division. The Steelers did.
Congratulations to the Steelers. You can hear my enthusiasm in
my voice. That's what you're getting from me. I'm sorry,
I'm sorry. Otis, you want to go to a break?
I think that's what that music means pretty much. All Right,
it is seven forty five on your Monday. You're listening
(28:29):
to the Blue Daddy Experience. Otis and Sam News Radio
eleven seventy WWVA. Welcome back seven point fifty on this Monday,
the bloom Daddy Experience, Samon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
(28:50):
I just wanted to touch on something real quick and
let everybody know a little bit of an update. Of course,
over the weekend, if you have heard art news coverage
throughout the morning and over the weekend, there was a
house fire in Jefferson County. It was actually on Wood
Street in Smithfield, Ohio. Three lives were lost. They have
(29:14):
not released, of course, the names of those who perished
in the fire. If you are not familiar with Smithfield,
it's a very small community, a very tight knit community.
This was a very large blaze. It took multiple crews
to put out the blaze. Many many were on scene. Also,
(29:40):
you know, Smithfield is part of the Buckeye Local School District.
I went to Buckeye Local, which, for better or for worse,
as Otis would probably say, he likes to make fun
of me about that, you know, I just wanted to
say my thoughts are with those in the community. There
was a candle light visual that they held at the
high school for those that you know that were lost
(30:02):
in the family that are now grieving through this time.
It's a horrible, horrible tragedy for for anybody, but in
a small, tight knit community like that, it seems to
even reverberate a little bit more. Did wanted to Did
want to let everybody know that if you can help,
(30:23):
these people are left with with nothing. They are asking
for any donations that you may be able to to give,
and we're talking the basics. We're talking basic clothes for
a young male, for an adult female and an adult male.
(30:48):
Anything from sweatpants to of course toilet trees, socks, underwear,
the basics. These people are left with nothing. Donations can
be dropped off at the Hopedale Fire and emt yes,
and if officials are asking that all animals be delivered
by Wednesday, January seventh. Again, they are collecting for the
family at the Hopedale Fire and Ems and they are
(31:11):
asking for everything to be dropped off by Wednesday, this Wednesday,
which is January seventh. And if you don't have time
to go and shop, or you know you don't have
anything like that, any type of gift cards to somewhere
like Walmart or Kroger's anything. As I said, these people
are are are left with nothing and right now they
(31:35):
need the basic necessities. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
Again dropping off at the Hopdale Fire and Ems and
they are collecting, collecting until this Wednesday, January seventh. So
anything that you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.
Just a horrible tragic story out of Smithfield, Ohio. And
(31:56):
like I said, I went to a black Eye Local.
I know that area, I know the peace people in
that area. They are resilient, strong people, and I'm sure
the community will completely embrace this family as they go
through such a tragic hard time, you know. So I
just wanted to pass that along to anybody out there
(32:17):
who can be of any help. It's uh, it's tough, otus,
It's it's it's tough, really tough.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
Funny time you go through any loss of you know, property,
let it learn life. You know, it affects those in
the community, uh, and in in in the neighboring communities
as well. I mean, obviously if it's you know, you
obviously think the worst when everything's being held up by
(32:44):
Eye Local because that normally means that there's somebody, probably
a juvenile or youth involved, and you know, we don't know,
we don't know that now, but I mean but that
that's where you make a connection, exactly like you so
in other words, that's where your mind goes. And you know, anytime,
(33:09):
anytime anything like this happens, it doesn't you know, it
could be a fire, could be the floods, could be
or whatever. It's it's devastating.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Well and right now, no causes have been released as
to why the fire started. No names have been released
or anything like that. But this is the time of
year that I remember firemen coming to school and speaking
to us. This is the time of year where people
are using space heaters, things like that, supplemental forms of heat.
It's dry and you have to be overly cautious, dry
(33:41):
Christmas trees, all that kind of stuff that you you
I'm trying to remember everything that I was taught in
school about that kind of those kind of things, but
and I am not saying that that's what happened here,
but this is the time of year when you hear
about fires because of things like space heaters and all
of that. So I just wanted to touch on that.
And if you can be of any help, please please help,
(34:04):
or you can also of course, the big stories over
the past couple days of the end of twenty twenty
five and then leading into of course now twenty twenty six,
everything happening in Minnesota with Somalia. We're going to get
into that, along with the Venezuela capture of the former
(34:29):
president event I don't know what title he would keep
at this point. We're going to get into that with
politics on leash on Wednesday, of course, but wanted to
you know, senators across the area are speaking out and
wanted to throw out some of the things like West
Virginia Senator Shelley Moore, Capito and Jim Justice are applauding
(34:51):
the military operation that captured the Venezuelan president Maduro in
US forces along with many Republican leaders from Ohio are
praising President Trump following the capture. And then of course
Pennsylvania's US senators are praising the attack on Venezuelan and
the recovery of the president of Venezuela. So you know,
(35:14):
people are celebrating, people are praising, people are protesting. I
know myself, when I initially saw the announcement, I was
caught off guard because I thought, really okay, but.
Speaker 5 (35:31):
Well, two things kind of stood out in the state
senators stories that we have the fact that John Fetterman
said that the operation proves even more that the US
has the strongest, the most lethal military in the world.
So I mean, I think he's kind of behind it,
And then why this guy's even relevant at this point
(35:53):
in time. But former Democratic Senator Shared Brown is critical,
of course, and used the president of prioritizing foreign countries
while many Ohioans are struggling to make ends meet.
Speaker 4 (36:05):
I believe Shared Brown's running for office again.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
No, that's why he was very relevant.
Speaker 4 (36:10):
Yes, what office, I don't know, but for some reason
that popped into my head.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
It dog wardon.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
Oh. So, yeah, we're going to talk about that the
legalities behind it, because that was my first question. But
we'll talk about that on Wednesday. But wanted to let
you know what some of the local politicians from our
of course tri state area are saying. It is seven
p fifty eight. You're listening to the bloom Daddy Experience
Otis and Sam news Radio eleven seventy WWVA, z.
Speaker 1 (36:45):
Number one talk show in the Ohio Valley. This is
the bloom Daddy Experience. Your host, bloom Daddy. His goal inform,
entertain and tick people off. The bloom Daddy Experience on
news radio ELEVENWVA starts.
Speaker 4 (37:03):
Now eighth six on your Monday, first Monday of twenty
twenty six. Yes, it is thank you for tuning in
the bloom Daddy Experience. Salmon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
You know what otis. It's funny. I'm sitting here watching
the coverage of Maduro and he's going into court. That,
(37:27):
of course, is the president of Venezuela that was captured
or captured a couple days ago. You know what cracks
me up otis is there's all of these visuals of
people who are immediately protesting this right in Brooklyn of
all places. Now, if you go to little you know
(37:50):
pockets of Venezuelan Americans, say, in Florida, they're dancing, they're celebrating,
the streets of Venezuela is celebrating the capture of this
this day dictator. Right, But forty year old white women
in Brooklyn, by god, they got their sharpies out and
their poster boards. They must have stock in sharpies and
(38:13):
poster boards to protest. In Michaels, the craft stores, yeah, no,
not hobby lobby, No, that's that's they're closed on Sundays.
They don't go to Chick fil A either, probably, well.
Speaker 5 (38:25):
I'm just saying that, but they can go to those
places to get their supplies.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
I know, I don't know. It just it blows my
mind that they.
Speaker 5 (38:33):
Just buy in bulk.
Speaker 4 (38:33):
Yeah, you know, if you and I'm not saying this
is true, But I would looking at the coverage of
this or the images the video, I would put more
credence or value behind the celebrating Venezuelans themselves and the
(39:00):
Venezuelan Americans who are celebrating than the forty year old
white woman in Brooklyn. I would think they would know
a little bit more about the situation.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
Well, let's don't forget the forty year old women in
Brooklyn probably voted for Mandami for mayor.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
That's my point. Yes, yeah, and they're probably the ones
that marched on DC during Trump's first administration dressed up
as female body parts and looked absolutely ridiculous. But yeah,
I don't know. Just some of the images coming out
of this are just I don't know. They are comical,
(39:40):
absolutely comical. And one other thing I wanted to point out,
I don't want to give kudos to CBS News, who's
finally doing some reporting on the massive fraud schemes coming
out of Minnesota.
Speaker 5 (39:54):
Well there's a shocker.
Speaker 4 (39:55):
I mean, it was finally published on January second, I
believe 've uh, it was pretty much thanks to social
media that it was exposed. You can call me out
if I'm.
Speaker 5 (40:09):
Incorrect, but it wasn't really a journalist. It was like
some twenty two year old kid that just decided that
he was going to look into this, and yeah, he
recorded everything on his phone. That's yeah, so early twenties.
I shouldn't say twenty two. He was twenty four maybe or.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
Something young adult. But congratulations CBS News to finally covered
covering this. It's it's estimated at this point to be
nine billion dollars of fraud. Nine billion dollars of fraud.
It just amazes me. I read over over our time off.
I read a I should have taken a picture of it.
(40:46):
I didn't. Up until that point. On that day, not
any other news organizations besides the social media coverage and
Fox News had even mentioned what was going on in Minnesota.
Not even a blow, nothing, nothing.
Speaker 5 (41:03):
That's because they can't. They're trying to defend. I mean,
there's a lot of George Soros money out there.
Speaker 4 (41:11):
And watch, you're gonna sound like a conspiracy theorist. You
don't want to sound like that.
Speaker 5 (41:15):
I'm just saying there's a lot of money out there
and you can take from it what you want, but
their money tends to influence you think.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
Yeah, the lot the loudest voice. Folks, it's not me,
it's not you. It's the old green dollar bill. That's
the biggest money out there. All right, let's turn the
page a little bit. How was your just do anything
special for New Year's Eve?
Speaker 5 (41:45):
I laid in bed. I wasn't feeling good.
Speaker 4 (41:47):
Oh oh yeah.
Speaker 5 (41:49):
I just I kinda. I came in here New Year's
Eve morning, loaded up the news in the weather and
or didn't, I don't even know. But then I came
back New Year's Day, recorded the news so on or whatever.
I don't know. They all run together, but you know
that's my I'm in charge of that. So I came in.
(42:10):
But other than that, I felt like crap for about
a day and a half and I really didn't do
much of any I had all these plans of things
that I wanted to do.
Speaker 4 (42:21):
Just how you want to bring in the new year, right, and.
Speaker 5 (42:24):
Just you know, I just couldn't. I just couldn't do it. Yeah,
it just was a little under the weather.
Speaker 4 (42:29):
That's that's that sucks. No, we didn't we didn't do
anything real spec. Of course, we watched the football game,
but we were going to go out to dinner ahead
of time. And then we're like, no, we're not even
going to do that. So we went got ourselves some
nice steaks, and I watched a lot of cooking shows
while I was on break, and I decided I was
(42:49):
going to do it like they do on the cooking
shows with a steak, right, So I brought out the Yeah,
I brought out the cast iron skillet, and I put
amish butter, nice and seasonings, and I, uh, real flash
flash grilled it on each side. But then I did it, Yeah,
(43:11):
seared it, and then I did the whole basting thing
like they do on the cooking shows. And I'm like
and my husband goes, oh, somebody's been watching. I said, yeah,
but look I too much. Yeah, look how cool I
am at this? So then you take the cast iron
skillet you put in the oven to finish it off. Yeah,
oh man, did I burn these ever loving you know
what out of it? So yeah, that was and then
(43:33):
the Buckeyes lost. So that was my New Year's Eve.
It was exciting.
Speaker 5 (43:37):
Yeah, my goal was to go out and get something
to eat on New Year's Eve. And I was just like,
this isn't happening. I just I was just getting ready
to get dressed and I'm like, nope, not gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (43:50):
Well, and it's been so cold for.
Speaker 5 (43:53):
The cold doesn't bother.
Speaker 4 (43:54):
Me two weeks?
Speaker 5 (43:56):
Oh no, see that because you're I mean, you're only
out in the cold for a few seconds.
Speaker 4 (44:02):
Well yeah, I know, but sometimes it's like I don't
even want those few seconds. I just want to stay
in my warm, cozy house and not go anywhere. And
I did a lot of that too much of that. Actually,
have you made any.
Speaker 5 (44:16):
No, no, no, I don't make resolutions. We talked about
this because then you just set yourself up for failure.
So what what I'm you know, I have you have
a plan of things that you want to do, So
I know coming up there's some things that that are
going to happen that I'm going to participate in. You
(44:39):
know where I do my cardio drumming. One of the
they have what they have a weight loss challenge and
you count your steps every day and things like that,
and that tends to motivate me a little bit. So
you know what I'll probably do is I'll probably do that,
and that way, it's it's a little bit of a competition.
But also it's not like if I don't do it
(45:00):
one day, who cares. Yeah, if my body tells me
I need to take a break, I'm going to take
a break.
Speaker 4 (45:06):
It's not as much pressure on yourself.
Speaker 5 (45:07):
Right And you know, I'm not I'm not worried about
winning twenty five bucks or fifty bucks or whatever, you know,
whatever it is, I'm not worried about it. You know,
it's just a matter of if there's a challenge, then
you tend to go to that. If I set a resolution,
I can I can go see you later. And most
resolutions now, they're most of most people have broken them already.
Speaker 4 (45:31):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. I drove past the local gym
the other day and it was just jam packed, and
I thought, okay, give this three weeks, two weeks max,
and it'll.
Speaker 5 (45:41):
Yeah, you'll, you know, you'll you get those people that, like,
let's say, for one hundred people that got a month
gym membership for Christmas or something of that nature, probably
thirty percent won't even use them. Another twenty percent will
quit after the first week, another twenty percent quit after
(46:02):
the second, and maybe ten percent will keep going.
Speaker 4 (46:05):
So well, somebody else has has decid.
Speaker 5 (46:08):
That didn't add up to one hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (46:09):
But I get what I get what you're you're thrown down. Well,
one friend of show has made decided to make a
change for twenty twenty six. We're gonna hear from him.
We'll get back.
Speaker 5 (46:20):
Oh, I was like, what are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (46:23):
It's a fifteen on your Monday. The Bloomdaddy Experience Otis
and Sam News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. It's a twenty
Welcome back The Bloomdaddy Experience, Sam and Otis News Radio
eleven seventy WWVA. It's a new year, New deals. Straw Automotive,
(46:46):
Good morning, Kevin Cook.
Speaker 5 (46:47):
Number one and number job again, number one, Number.
Speaker 6 (46:50):
Two, Yeah, number one and number two again in the state.
Strab Honda right here at the Highlands number one in
the state. Mountain near Honda Oberon Bridge, West Virginia. Number
two in the state last month. But check this out
for the year. Okay, they were less than forty units apart.
Mountaineer is the number one Honda dealer in the entire
(47:11):
state of West Virginia, and the Strib Honda here at
the Highlands number two. Can you believe that, yang?
Speaker 5 (47:17):
Nope, can't believe it.
Speaker 6 (47:19):
I mean, and we're talking about now. These dealerships are
out selling some of the bigger dealers in the Pittsburgh market.
Excuse me, got a little cough there, but I mean
it's just absolutely incredible the number of Hontas that we're selling.
Speaker 4 (47:32):
And what do you attribute that to.
Speaker 6 (47:35):
I think it's just for what you know, that the
overall experience that people get here. Okay, because not only
are we number one in sales excuse me, we are
number one in CSI customer satisfaction as well. See, when
you put those two things together with great pricing, then
you know you have nothing but success.
Speaker 4 (47:56):
Yes, those metrics. As you struggle there, I'm sorry, and
I know what that's it. That's like, it's terrible. But
when you put those two metrics together, that customer experiences
is uh number one, and that's that's what's needed.
Speaker 5 (48:10):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (48:10):
Absolutely, that's what it's all about, because we're definitely putting
the customers first. And we'd like to, you know, take
this time to thank each and every one that has
done business with us, whether it's sales, service, parts, body shop.
We are truly grateful for each and every one of
you at all of the STROB locations.
Speaker 5 (48:28):
Wonderful you're struggling this morning, but I have struggling.
Speaker 6 (48:32):
Man, I got a bad cough this morning. I won't
jump off right here.
Speaker 5 (48:35):
Yeah, okay, sounds good. Good, we'll talk tomorrow. Yeah, that's awful.
Speaker 4 (48:41):
Yes, you get that one cough and it's like that
tickle that just will not go away no matter what
you do. Yeah, I know exactly what that's like. Exactly
what that's like. So we were talking about New Year's
and resolutions that Otis and I are not doing. We've
decided not to to any et cetera. We refuse to
set ourselves up for failure.
Speaker 5 (49:03):
But this way we don't do it as often as
because we set ourselves up for failure every day as
soon as we walk through the door.
Speaker 4 (49:10):
That's true. That's true.
Speaker 5 (49:13):
You wanted to do that other thing, did you? Yes,
I guess I gotta get there.
Speaker 4 (49:17):
Okay. Well, speaking of resolutions making a change, our real
good friend Jeff Bezos has decided to grow a beard. Yes,
it is his new Year's resolution to look more manly.
He can't grow He's bald, isn't he? H Okay? Yeah,
find out in his first dispatch of twenty twenty six.
Speaker 7 (49:41):
I'm Jeff Beziers. If you've seen pictures of me recently,
you'll notice that my New Year's resolution is to let
my hair down. Oh and since I cannot grow hair
a top bcranium, I'm referring to the hair down on
my chin. That's right, Nades, I've grown beard. And with that,
(50:04):
my transformation from nerdy technique to rugged madly madness complete.
I'm like Vin Diesel with a mega yacht.
Speaker 3 (50:12):
I'm like Terry Crews.
Speaker 7 (50:15):
Except I can't do that thing where I pitched my
pictor muscles off.
Speaker 5 (50:20):
But I'm working on it. So what's next?
Speaker 7 (50:24):
Well, perhaps I'll make another resolution to star in my
own action film, because I'm like Duane the Rock Johnson.
Speaker 3 (50:32):
With my own movie studio. It's going to be the
best New Year ever.
Speaker 4 (50:42):
Yes, he's just like the Rock. Yeah, oh goodness.
Speaker 5 (50:48):
But they none of those guys had beards. Like what
was the comparison the bodies? Because he said Terry Crew's
Ben Diesel and Dwayne Johnson.
Speaker 4 (50:56):
Now they don't. Terry's Cruz has a mustache, doesn't he? No?
Speaker 5 (51:00):
I don't, No, I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (51:04):
Trying to think of any buff guy that has a
beard besides me, besides you and my husband.
Speaker 5 (51:14):
You said buff, I thought you said, but.
Speaker 4 (51:16):
No, no, I said buff. But I'm trying to think
of a movie star that you know, is known for
that his physique and has a beard.
Speaker 5 (51:29):
The top of my head, I can't think of it. No,
here's the Adams, twisty Adams from the Dan Haggerty. Of
course he's dead.
Speaker 4 (51:38):
I think, Oh, that's nice, that's nice. You know what's funny.
My husband has had a beard are entire I've never
seen his face.
Speaker 5 (51:46):
My kids have never seen me with that a mustache
or some sort of a beard.
Speaker 4 (51:49):
Yeah, I've never seen his complete face.
Speaker 5 (51:52):
So what year is it? Twenty six? So my son
will be twenty eight old son will be twenty eight.
It's never see me without, oh my gosh, facial hair.
Speaker 3 (52:05):
Wow.
Speaker 4 (52:06):
Yeah, so who knows what I'm married to? Who knows?
Speaker 5 (52:10):
There's you can get on Snapchat and there's a filter
that will take if you have facial hair, it will
take it off.
Speaker 4 (52:15):
Oh really, Oh I don't Maybe I don't want to
do that.
Speaker 5 (52:18):
Well that that can give you a preview.
Speaker 4 (52:22):
Maybe I'll say never take it never shame Well, it's
kind of like a woman in her makeup. I mean
I've said it to you here. I didn't feel like
putting my face on today.
Speaker 5 (52:36):
Yeah, because you know, those are the days when I
you know, you kind of get that jolt when you
first walk think, whoa, what's that?
Speaker 3 (52:44):
Whoa.
Speaker 4 (52:44):
There's a reason why the cosmetic industry is a billion
dollar industry because you know, even though we look all natural,
it really is not. Don't roll your eyes in me.
Speaker 5 (53:01):
I'm not saying word.
Speaker 4 (53:03):
Hey listen, sometimes you gotta work with God gave you,
and then you improve it a little bit, you know,
judge it if you will. Speaking of resolutions, you know
most people think weight loss when you think of resolutions.
There are other ways to become healthy without losing weight.
(53:25):
And that's according to a new research. You know, it's
that time of year, it's weight loss research. Time over,
research on over two point two million adults show that
plant rich diets significantly reduce risks of type two diabetes,
cardiovascular disease, cancer, and premature death. Adding two hundred grams
of daily fruits and vegetables lowers heart disease and stroke
(53:47):
risks among all eaters. Exercise, of course, improves cholesterol levels,
reduces blood treglycerides, and helps regulate blood glueclose without weight changes.
Did I say that right now?
Speaker 5 (54:01):
You're right? Okay, you just I mean it's glucose. You
put an extra lwin in there. But that's okay.
Speaker 4 (54:06):
Oh did I?
Speaker 5 (54:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (54:07):
You know what I was getting at. Managing stress protects
immune function and blood pressure, as chronic stress affects eating patterns,
and eighty percent of adults adults need approximately seven hours
of nightly sleep. Boy, that'd be a blessing, wouldn't it
to prevent high blood pressure, heart disease, and depression. So
there's a couple of little facts to make yourself healthy.
(54:28):
As we cut into the new year.
Speaker 5 (54:32):
It was kind of funny this morning because even last
week when we were off, my alarm still goes off
at the same time because I still have to come
in and do the stuff as I said earlier, And
I woke up this morning like from a dead sleep,
and I was like, I'm going to roll over and
see what time it is because my alarm, my alarm's
going to go off here shortly, and like before I
(54:53):
could even oat my eyes and roll over, my alarm
went off, and I was like, well, I guess it's
time to go at your internal and it's like, oh god,
this sucks.
Speaker 4 (55:05):
It's that pesky internal clock. Speaking of a clock, it's
eight twenty eight. We got to jump to a quick break.
You're listening to the Blue Daddy Experience Sam and Otis
News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Welcome back. It's eight thirty
(55:27):
six on this Monday, The Blue Daddy Experience Otis and
Sam News Radio eleven seventy WWVA. Got a message on
our text line seven zero four seven zero. Oh my god,
I just yes, seven zero four seven zero. Wow. Okay,
that is our text line. By the way, if you
(55:47):
want to reach us, just start the message off with
bloom Dandy and then of course I'll get a message.
It just like, for some reason, I was thinking there
was a six in there, but there's it is not.
It is seven zero four seven zero. Got a message saying, Sam,
are you going to be doing lunches again this year?
Speaker 5 (56:01):
I was just gonna say yes before the Best office
is going to say we should probably tell people lunch
is back this week.
Speaker 4 (56:07):
Yes, lunch is back this week. Of course. That is
courtesy of our friends at River City. Basically how it
works is on Wednesday, we take all the registrations, pull
one out of the the magical randomizer that Otis uses
in there phone on your phone, and then we deliver

(56:28):
and we feed up to ten people. So all courtesy

Sam at iHeartMedia dot com. That's Sam at iHeartMedia dot com, name,
phone number, and place of business, and that will be
(56:49):
your registration and again we draw for that winner on Wednesday.
So thank you for the reminder. Listener on the text line,
really do appreciate that. Speaking of weird things, Prince remember Prince,
Yeah he's kicking off twenty twenty six.
Speaker 5 (57:11):
Pretty well, Okay, that's kind of hard, but okay.
Speaker 4 (57:15):
Yeah, well here's how it ties in. So the song
When Doves Cry, which of course is a Prince song,
and Purple Rain is surging on the streaming charts.
Speaker 5 (57:27):
Okay, both from the Purple Rain soundtrack from like nineteen
eighty four. I believe you know better than yeah, it's
eighty four, could be eighty three, but I think I'm
pretty sure it's eighty four.
Speaker 4 (57:38):
Well, here's why. Because it's following the premiere of the
series finale of Stranger Things, which felt which landed on
New Year's Eve, the two iconic songs have experienced a
dramatic streaming surge. Global streams of Purple Rain increase to
it by two hundred and forty three percent, while gen
(57:59):
Z specific streams rose five hundred and seventy seven percent,
while Doves Cry saw a two hundred percent jump globally
of streaming. So, yeah, Stranger Things is uh busting up
the charts, that show, Yeah, but thanks to that show.
Speaker 5 (58:21):
And here's the thing, the show like that introduces that
music to whold new generation.
Speaker 4 (58:26):
Yeah, because it's set in the eighties, right, that show
it lost me.
Speaker 5 (58:31):
I've never seen it. Yeah, So I don't know. I've
seen like like advertisements for it and advertisements that are
tied into it, but I mean I've never seen it
to understand it.
Speaker 4 (58:44):
So I watched the first season. Second season came out.
I made it about three episodes in and I'm like,
I'm done. It just completely lost me.
Speaker 5 (58:57):
What were we when does Cry? And what was the
other one? Purple Rain?
Speaker 4 (59:01):
Yes?
Speaker 5 (59:02):
Yeah, so like like purple rains like the first off.
That soundtrack is just an iconic soundtrack. I mean, it's
one of the I would have to say that it's
probably one of the top soundtracks of the eighties, if
not the top. Yeah, and not only that, it's probably
just in general, well, it's probably one of the top
ten albums of the of the eighties, could be of
(59:22):
all time. Some strange songs on that album though, that
you can't play on the radio, like Darling nicky, And
he was kind.
Speaker 4 (59:32):
Of an odd little man, wasn't he.
Speaker 5 (59:34):
He had his quirks. Yeah, there you go. Good word,
good word. So but yeah, I mean, I mean, there's
some great Prince stories out there, Like Dave Chappelle had
one on his show about Charlie Murphy, Eddie Murphy's brother,
when they were someplace and Prince challenged Charlie Murphy and
(59:55):
his guys to a game of basketball. They went back
to Prince's house because he had a basketball court. He
played high scho basketball, And they went back and like
Charlie Murphy said that, Prince came out like they didn't
even have jim clothes on. They were playing in like
what they would play in the band. Like he had
his high heels on and everything else. They said, Prince
just schooled everybody. And then Jimmy Fallon tells a story
(01:00:18):
about with it because Quest Love was tied into it,
the bands leader for Jimmy Fallon was tied into this,
and and how Prince was excellent in like table tennis
and he like Jimmy Fallon wanted to play him, okay,
and like there's I guess ping pong or table tennis
(01:00:40):
clubs in New York, you know, like you would have
like a cigar club or you know, like a squash
or racketball club or well they have table tennis clubs.
And so he, I guess Prince told Questlove he like
because Prince like he always what he sang, he had
that high voice. But I guess what he talked to
it was like real love, really yeah, And he's said,
(01:01:01):
and I'm gonna paraphrase this, but according to Quest Love,
Prince said, tell your boy to meet me at the
club at two am. And I guess, so Jimmy Fallon
goes to this ping pong club in New York and
plays Prince in ping pong and got schooled, like you
(01:01:22):
know in ping pong. Yes, there's some great Prince story
he's out there. They're they're almost as good as the
Larry Bird stories. But yeah, I mean there's some. He
was an eccentric dude.
Speaker 4 (01:01:34):
One of the best halftime shows.
Speaker 5 (01:01:36):
Oh, absolutely, one of the best Super Super Bowl shows. Yeah, absolutely,
This coming on with the rain. Yeah, I think it
was in Miami and the rain was pouring down and
he's playing purple Rain. He's got the silk, you know,
he's got those like the sheet in front of him
where it's just a silhouette. At one point in time, wasn't.
Speaker 4 (01:01:54):
That when he broke out the symbol guitar for the
first time.
Speaker 5 (01:01:58):
Maybe I don't know if it was the first time
he used it, but it might have been like the
first time on National TV or something.
Speaker 4 (01:02:04):
The symbol, right, is that what they called it?
Speaker 5 (01:02:06):
Yeah? Yeah, he changed his name to a symbol.
Speaker 4 (01:02:09):
Yeah, okay, yeah, and then he had a.
Speaker 5 (01:02:11):
Guitar made up like it. Yeah symbol yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:02:13):
Yeah, odd, odd little man.
Speaker 5 (01:02:17):
And I'll say this about Prince, and I've said this
on this show multiple times, and I think you actually
shared it one time on our Facebook page. But google
Prince and Tom Petty and Jeff Lynn at the at
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony where
they not where they inducted George Harrison as a solo artist.
Of course, George has passed away, and I believe Steve
(01:02:39):
Winwood was on the keyboards, and there was a couple
other big names playing there as well, and George's son
Danny was there, and they were playing while my guitar
gently weeps, and Prince just comes out of nowhere, plays
the guitar solo, throws the guitar and walks off stage,
no recognition. And the story behind that, and I found
(01:03:01):
this out later was I think it was Rolling Stone
or there was some magazine. I want to say Rolling
Stone came out with the top one hundred guitarists of
all time, and Prince wasn't on the list, so he
was jacked, and that's what he came out. Just was like, yep,
i'll show you see you later. Oh, Like he just
solidified that he could have been like one of the
(01:03:24):
he is probably one of the top guitarists. And he
just basically gave him a middle finger and said, here,
I'll show you you're gonna leave me off the list.
I'll show you and he just like middle Finger. Here
you go if you google that.
Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
That's yeah, you showed it to me. Now, that backstore,
that backstory made just.
Speaker 5 (01:03:43):
Like I could watch that every day. Just that's how
weird I am. But I mean just that that guitar
solo that he does, and it's just so impressive.
Speaker 4 (01:03:54):
Yeah, I couldn't even imagine having talent like that.
Speaker 5 (01:03:57):
I couldn't imagine having any talent because I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:04:03):
Yeah, I'm not even No, that's one thing I do
not have is musical talent whatsoever. Although we you know,
some may people, some people who listen, may beg to
differ after our karaoke. Yes, our performances. Maybe we have
a lot more than than we realize.
Speaker 5 (01:04:23):
I doubt it. Well, because what you have six people that.
Speaker 4 (01:04:29):
Are bad, somebody's bound to look semi taste it.
Speaker 5 (01:04:33):
Yeah, exactly, somebody's gonna sound like you're just not You're
not the worst. That's what. That's our competition, you go,
nobody wins, You're just not the worst. Oh shoot, oh,
speaking of that, remind me dave O asked me about something,
so okay, we'll get to ask you off air.
Speaker 4 (01:04:50):
Oh okay, it's eight forty five. You're listening to The
Bloom Died Experienced, samon Otis News Radio eleven seventy w
w V A Welcome back into eight fifty on this Monday,
(01:05:15):
The bloom Daddy Experience, samon Otis News Radio eleven seventy WWVA.
You know what today is? Well, it is Monday. Well, yes,
it's Monday. I said, I've said that a couple of times. Today.
It's national Thank God, It's Monday Day. Who in their
right mind ever says that?
Speaker 5 (01:05:32):
Nobody? Nobody, no, nobody ever said tgim No.
Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
It's also National Keto Day, which I guess kind of
goes along with resolutions and all of that. But to
counteract that, it's National whip cream Day. So depending on.
Speaker 5 (01:05:49):
Oh there's friendly whip cream.
Speaker 4 (01:05:51):
Well yeah, okay, I guess, but I guess if you're
I look at it this way, if you're gonna do
whip cream, you might as well go for the the gusto,
the good stuff, whatever you say, okay, Oh oh shoot, shoot,
shoot shoot. Speaking of whipped cream. So I know this
(01:06:13):
is gonna be a weird tie in, but I'm going
to make it happen. My husband turned me on. I
did a lot of binge watching during the break my break,
my husband turned me on to the show Landman from
the creator of Yellowstone.
Speaker 5 (01:06:30):
I have a friend to turn me onto it, and
I got addicted to it very.
Speaker 4 (01:06:32):
Quickly, very quickly. I have got to say, Ali Lawder,
who is pushing fifty years old, by God, woman, God
bless you. I am not ashamed to say.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
That.
Speaker 4 (01:06:52):
I can appreciate a good looking woman who works her
tail off to look that way and.
Speaker 5 (01:06:57):
She'll be fifty at the end of February.
Speaker 4 (01:07:00):
Her because she is smoking, absolutely smoking. Now how does
that tie into whip cream?
Speaker 5 (01:07:10):
Okay, I know where you're going with.
Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
She's infamous as the whip cream bikini from Varsity Blues,
the movie in the early two thousands, I believe is
when it came out with James Vanderbeek from Dawson's Creek.
She was the whip cream bikini girl. So she's uh.
But yeah, man, is that show addictive? It is good.
It is so good. And like you said, Billy Bob
(01:07:35):
Thornton is fantastic in that show. But I will admit
I watched wait, I spent way too many hours watching
watching TV.
Speaker 5 (01:07:44):
I watched a couple of dumb things. Over the weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:07:47):
Dumb things.
Speaker 5 (01:07:47):
I mean, I watched a couple of movies. So I
watched ruf Man.
Speaker 4 (01:07:51):
Oh, I watched that one, and.
Speaker 5 (01:07:54):
I watched Catch Me If you Can, so both on
based on true stories Chanting Tatum and Kirsten Dunce and
roof Man, and then Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio and
Catch Me if you Can. So, you know, I thought
(01:08:15):
they were both good. And then I watched Chad Powers
on Hulu. Yeah, you know, I was. It's it's okay.
I don't think it's great. I mean, I think there's
some funny things.
Speaker 4 (01:08:30):
It's lighthearted.
Speaker 5 (01:08:32):
But if you if you, if you actually break it down,
you know, it's it's kind of like it's not gonna win.
Speaker 4 (01:08:39):
Yeah, it's not gonna win big awards or anything. It's
straight up entertainment. I will say though, watching roof Man
made me very nostalgic for toys r us.
Speaker 5 (01:08:48):
Well, you know, it's funny because like in the background scenes,
it's like like he robs the McDonald's. So I don't
want to give it all away, but so they'll they'll
have a it like there's the McDonald's and then in
the background, a Blockbuster video and then like Toys r
Us and you know, there's just that, like there's a
lot of things that aren't there anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:09:09):
I caught myself watching it when he was when they
were doing the Toys r Us scenes looking for the cage.
Do you remember the cage? So if you were getting
an expensive.
Speaker 5 (01:09:20):
Toy of it, yeah, I know.
Speaker 4 (01:09:24):
What you mean, and you had to go to the
cage and I don't remember actually.
Speaker 5 (01:09:27):
Like video game anything that was high priced. Yes, that
was that could be shoplifted very easily. So like realistically
in the movie, when he takes the video games, they
would have been in the cage. He probably wouldn't have
had access to him.
Speaker 4 (01:09:42):
Well he probably could have, but there was probably locked.
And that's based on a true story. It's it's pretty good.
So I don't even know who's showing it. I don't
know what Paramount Plus is that what it was on? Yeah,
so but yeah, if you have not watched land Man, it's.
Speaker 5 (01:09:59):
It's a good arend. A couple other streaming services as well,
so like I can't remember which one it is, but
like Paramount Plus is land Man, but you can watch
it on another streaming service as well, yeah, I think
it might be on like Amazon Prime or something. But
it's like it's only the first season, so.
Speaker 4 (01:10:18):
There's so much out there, Oh my gosh, so much.
I mean I got to a point where it was
it was just like overwhelming, like just digging through because
I was bored. Cabin fever was really getting to me.
Speaker 5 (01:10:35):
Well, when you don't feel good, yeah, and you're not
really getting up and doing anything, it's like I should
probably do laundry, but I just can't. They just don't
have the energy, and or I should do the dishes, right,
you don't have the energy, so you kind of put
it off and you just put on a stupid movie or.
Speaker 4 (01:10:53):
Right, you know, and hope to fall asleep and feel better.
Speaker 5 (01:10:56):
And then it catches your interest and then you're like
then you're why and like paying attention and like, Okay,
you got to go to the bathroom.
Speaker 4 (01:11:03):
Pause pause, got to take the dogs out? Pause, They've
got to go to the bathroom.
Speaker 3 (01:11:08):
Pause. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:11:09):
Yeah. Speaking of movie stars and entertainment, Mickey Rourke if
you remember that name, there's the picture of him came
out over the weekend. Doesn't look so Great has approved
to go fundme campaign to raise him fifty nine and
overdue rent to stop eviction from his LA home. It
seeks donations to cover immediate housing costs and help Rourke
(01:11:32):
remain in his residence. The organizer, whose name is Layah
Joel Jones, is a friend and member OF's Rourke's management team,
said he has experienced a difficult period and appreciates public
support about not blowing all your money or having a
management team and paying them. I mean imagine how much
(01:11:56):
they cost.
Speaker 5 (01:11:56):
And then like, if you have overdue rented fIF nine thousand.
Speaker 4 (01:12:02):
What's your rent?
Speaker 5 (01:12:03):
Yeah, exactly, maybe you need to downsize back.
Speaker 4 (01:12:06):
Yeah, maybe it's time to downsize. And then also you
mentioned catch me if you can. Well. The star of
that movie, Leonardo Dicabrio, is questioning whether audience audiences still
want to see films in theaters as the industry continues
to shift. He told The Time Cinema is cinema is
changing at a lightning speed and undergoing a huge transition.
(01:12:27):
He noted, do people still have the appetite or will
cinema's become silos like jazz bars. Last month, he told
Deadline that keeping movies in theaters is going to be
a fight.
Speaker 5 (01:12:39):
I don't think he's wrong.
Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
I don't think he's wrong, but I don't think he's
one hundred percent right.
Speaker 5 (01:12:43):
I think there's certain movies that you almost have to
see in the theater. Yes, yes, And I think I
think Imax will like the Imax movies, although I've never
seen one, you know, that's I guess that's going to be.
Like I think that'll maybe replace some of your traditional theaters.
Maybe not all of them, No.
Speaker 3 (01:13:02):
But.
Speaker 5 (01:13:04):
I just think it's a different like I give the
big movies like Avatar and stuff like that you almost
have to see in a Oh yeah, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:13:11):
But they kind of said the same thing about DVD
players in VCRs. Where are they no, no, no, that
they would overtake the theater industry. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:13:21):
I think streamings a whole different animal.
Speaker 4 (01:13:24):
It is, Yeah, yep, it is. Well, everybody, we made
it through our first Monday of twenty twenty six. I
hope you enjoyed it. Don't forget get in your free
lunch Sam at iHeartMedia dot com for your registration, name,
phone number, and company. We deliver it on Friday.
Speaker 5 (01:13:39):
Courtesy of River City.
Speaker 4 (01:13:40):
Courtesy of River City, of course, enjoy your Monday. We'll
be back tomorrow,
