Speaker 1 (00:01):
This is the Coach Brian Moore Show with Opahlac. I
had football coach Brian Moore and now with Coach Moore.
The voice of the Bulldogs, Man Riggs.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Glad you with us back here on the Brian Moore Shovers,
ended by Glenn Smith, Chevy GMC and Opalaika along with
Coach Brian Moore. I'm Van Riggs and coach Well, congratulations
on a big win in the region play. A tough,
tough place to go to win is at Dothan, especially
against a good team like that. And I mean really
offensively and defensively a good game.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Yeah, I mean, you know, proud of our progress.

Speaker 4 (00:35):
I think, you know, there there were things to fix obviously,
like every game that we you know, go and pour
over and you know, we didn't start very fast in
the game, uh you know, and and but I thought
we recovered nicely.

Speaker 3 (00:47):
You know. We'll give the first score of the game.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
After kind of an issue as far as a return,
but our kids rallied after that, and I think without
that muff punt, I'm not sure they score, you know.
And so really proud of our defensive FOOTBA team. This
is the same team in Dotson that ran for five
hundred dollards against Central, So I mean you're talking about
they ran for one hundred and sixty seven against us.
That is quite a feat against that offense. And so

(01:10):
you know, that was as complete as we've been this year.
You know, we were not perfect in the kicking game,
but we did have some bright moments, you know, to
where we did some things well.

Speaker 3 (01:18):
We continue to punt it well. Zone is really playing well.
Reach is still clean on this pfty field. Goal snaps
and holes have been really good.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
They were actually our players of the Week, Cam Railey
and Kyle Jefferson players of the Week this week for
special teams and so you know they're doing a really
good job.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
And then offense and we've made some explosives.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
You know, they kind of got everybody in the box.
We talked about that on the show last week. We're
getting those guys down there and you know, being able
to throw it over their heads. You know, Jamari had
a big catching millfield got us down into five. He
also called a fade ball that was a huge play
in the game. He also ran a seventy six yard
reverse that was a massive like took the lid off tight.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
Feel to the run.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
So really pleased with that, you know, I thought as
the game went on we were able to find balance
through and run them all better, and it was good
to see us finish. I think we're three for three
in the red zone, so we did some things well
as the game went on. We need to start a
little bit faster, but shoot man in this region, you know,
going to Dothan, first win there since twenty eleven, I

(02:14):
believe for us, and first win.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Over the Dothan Wolves the.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
Seven A version, and so really proud of our kids
and another step towards making the playoffs and then obviously
improving your seating as you go. But you know, proud
of the kids and it was a big momentum deal
for our program.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Calvin Hugley usually gets the work loan and it was
a lot of different guys getting carries with how Jordan
Wait's carry the ball and Tommy Johnson down the streets
with a good night.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
Yeah. I thought Tommy had a great night, his best
night as a bulldog. You know, he was physical, he
looks good. He's about two hundred pounds.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
I mean he's you know, for a lot of schools,
he'd be there starting running back and for us, you know,
he's had to you know, get into the mix. And
then we're still waiting for Jordan, you know, to.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Kind of be himself. You know that's going to happen.
It's you know, at some point he's gonna.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
Have that breakthrough night and you know, and then Blake
had a big night. I think like had seven carries
in a catch, maybe two touchdowns. Blake is such an
old school fullback. He came off at one point. I
think you guys were talking about on the radio. You know,
Blake's coming off.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
What's going on. He's bleeding everywhere. You know, It's like
this is as old school as it gets. You know,
like this guy is unbelievable, you know, great with the football.
He had to turnover.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
That will clean up, you know, and put him with
coach Landers this week and clean up some of the
ball security stuff.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
But he is a weapon down there around the end.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Zone and that could be a good intimidation tact to
just yeah, yeah, he's he's an outstanding young man and
you know, honestly for us, kind of an unsung hero.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
You know, he's in the biggest games against Auburn.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
You know, obviously last week and then even against Pike Road,
you know, big plays in the game for us, big
carries in the game to where you know, he's tough
to tackle h two hundred and forty pound, especially down
there in the red area. And so another one I
wanted to mention, you know, it's nice to get Dearrius
Whitlow back, you know, nice to have him back at
guard kind of being himself again and moving people around.
So you know, overall, please, I think we're for two

(04:00):
hundred yards on the nose and that was a good night,
you know for us.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
But again we need to start a little bit faster.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
But plays with our bikes and obviously Calvin also had
some catches too. You know, we had a big screen
catch we ran for I don't know, thirty or forty yards.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Broke four or five tackles on that play.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
When he gets to that second third level, he's a
nightmare to bring down at two hundred pounds and four
or five forty guy, And you know, I think his
stock keeps improving as far as college where he's going
to end up.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
But just proud of Calvin, and but we need more
of that from that backfield for sure.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah, I don't know who was controlling the PlayStation controller
when he was on that play The Boy, the Jukes,
the spins this I mean, the hurdle, I mean he does.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
A stiff farming guy to the ground is awesome, absolutely
awesome to see.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
I know, in a game like this, the trenches are
going to be key, and especially on the offensive side,
trying to move a football against some of these guys.
A bunch of them are going to play in the SEC,
some of them.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
At least, no doubt.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
I mean, this is probably the best defensive football team
we've seen this year.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
You know that we're getting ready to play, you know,
really top heavy with a.

Speaker 4 (04:57):
Few you know, guys that are really really high level players,
but quality players otherwise as well, you know, twenty five
to me. You know, obviously everybody, you don't want to
talk about winners, and you want to talk about Grady.
You want to talk about the corner, you know, and
you want to talk about those SEC players. But also
twenty five of the mic, the Turner kid is a
really good player. Good interior people do a great job

(05:19):
schematically of kind of you know, fitting things.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Right and also being very multiple.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
You know, you don't just line up six in one
spot the end and just bombing him knowing where he is.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
You know, they do a great job of moving him.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
He'll play some mic, you know, and then winners will
drop down in the box and play some stuff as well.
So extremely multiple, extremely well coached there runs to the football,
play really really hard and very opportunists that you see
a bunch of balls being put off guys. I mean
you see five come in any pop run, he's going
yank aet twenty five comes in trying to rip the
ball as well. You know, again create and turnovers all
over the place. And then the problem with five is

(05:52):
if he gets his hand on the football getting them
on the ground because he's a you know, play quarterback
against the Black last year, he's.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Going to play some offense. Four is going to play
some offense, and I wouldn't be rise of six.

Speaker 4 (06:00):
The defensive end doesn't play some offense in this game
as big as it is. So you know, again, whatever
work cut out for us. But we're you know, I feel.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Really good about where we are as a football team.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
The once you win one like we did Friday, the
buy in and again the momentum can really carry you,
you know, and I think we've got to ride that
wave right now. You know, that belief is growing, you know,
in our kids. And you know, I said it on
the show last week. I said, man, it's enough talk.
You know, it's time to do it. And we did,
and so it's time to do it again, you know.
And hey, I cautioned them, you know, early in the week,

(06:32):
I said, man, you know, look at Alabama and look
at look at what can happen if you win a
big ball game, you know, something that you you know,
get really really up for and then had that let
down emotionally just can't happen, Like, what have we proven yet?
You know, what have we done yet? Let's let's stay
on it. Le's stay hungry, you know, and stay after
it on that grind man, and make our team as
good as it can. Because this team coming in Friday's

(06:53):
better than the when we played last Friday. I mean,
and they've got more playmakers, more explosive pieces that if
you're not right, they'll they'll hurt you real quick. So
you know, again we're gonna have to play better and
keep improving as we go through it.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:06):
The one thing this Enterprise team did in their last
win against Carver was they had the ball with six
minutes to go in the game, and Carver never got
the ball back. They did a really good job of
controlling the game and running that clock.

Speaker 4 (07:15):
Ninety nine yards worth. I mean I watched, I was
at the game. You know, they got a goal line stand.
Carver snapped three or four times from inside the two
or three yard line and just couldn't get in.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
You know, that tells you.

Speaker 4 (07:25):
And that was to take that lead and maybe win
that ball game, and they couldn't punch it in. And
then Enterprise, you know, instead of three and out and
punting and having to go back on defense, shoot methodically
four minute offense, you know, nine the que controlling the
clock like Kobe does, you know, and like we've taught
our kids to, you know, to finish ball games with
the ball, and I've been really impressed with all of.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
That as far as clock management.

Speaker 4 (07:46):
And then you know, on top of that, man to
add on it, like having some guys that go both
ways for Enterprise, they do an incredible job of managing
that workload, you know, because you can look, I don't
care what kind of shape you're in, what level of
player you are, because they're really good. There's a certain
amount of snaps that you can play in the game
before you just can't perform at.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Your potential level. And they do a great job.

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Coach Blackman does a great job of managing that workload
and getting winners in in crucial downs and getting four
in and crucial downs, and like I said, I'm expecting
six and crucial downs, you know, to be in that
ball game, but not running them a hundred times, you know,
and not snapping it in one hundred times with them
on the field, because again they're gonna kick off, return stuff,
punk block stuff.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
Kickoff, They're gonna do all that.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
But he does a great job of managing that pitch
count and I think it makes a difference. And that's
what you saw against Carver as how you know, as
to how they finished that ball game.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Yeah, knowing too, like a game like last year, how
good Winners could throw the ball to when he was
at quarterback. I mean, if he's a wide receiver and
catches it, who knows what could happen.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
I mean, it's a scary thing.

Speaker 4 (08:47):
As talented as he is, and I mean, you know,
look over the years, I've seen a lot of you know,
kids that were four stars or five stars. This kid
is legit, a legit. I mean, the Grady kid is too.
These are legit four star kids. They're not like, well,
I went to Rivals camp a bunch and then I
got a star because I'm six three and I run
really fast, but I'm not a great football play. These
are dudes that understand they just are kids. And I

(09:10):
say it a lot, but that grew up throwing the
football around. You talking about winners being able to throw it.
That kid's played a bunch of ball in the backyard,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 3 (09:17):
Like he's gone out there and been the receiver, been
the quarterback or being the dB. And you can just
see his.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
Instincts and you can see how he takes over ball
games he's done.

Speaker 3 (09:25):
In his entire career. And you know, again, it's exciting.
I tell you this.

Speaker 4 (09:28):
This level affords you the opportunity as a coach to
see players like this, you know. And I compared that
was on d Mark Show, and I compared it to
Auburn High.

Speaker 3 (09:38):
You know, in the twelve thirteen Ruben Rashwan.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
They've got guys like that, They've got top level talent
like that.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
That if you don't know where they are on every play.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
They will impact and change that entire ball game, and
so obviously huge part of our game plan. But again
they you know, they meet on Sundays too, so those
coaches are getting those kids in places to make plays too.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
But really impressed with their team and their personnel as
a whole.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
I know the hope like a Bulldog fans are gonna
have a big part in this game Friday night. Coach,
I know, if you win this game, you could almost
wrap up a playoff spot for the first time since
OPLAG has been a seven eighteen. Well how huge this
will be. And I know there's a lot of corporate
sponsors out there with tickets that may not be able
to make it to the game. We don't have the
transfer turn in like we do in college, so make
sure you get it to somebody and pack up the
Bulldog stadium.

Speaker 4 (10:22):
Yeah, I mean for me, like, I'm just so excited
about the atmosphere because you know, we played some big games,
but not like this, you know, and no offense to
any of the teams we've played, but with what's on
the line, you know too, and the rivalry ish I
guess as far as playing Enterprise a long time.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
We played them almost every year that I was here before, you.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
Know, and always close, always, you know, shoot, didn't matter
if it was ten seven or forty five, you know whatever,
it was always a close ball game. And that's the
way it'll be again Friday night. But we need our crowd,
I mean, truthfully, the opelack of people.

Speaker 3 (10:55):
We need, we need you, and we need you.

Speaker 5 (10:57):
You know.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
I noticed it at oth in the other big third down,
big fourth down, people getting up and yelling and Billy
Jones leading the charge up there in the stands and
just really appreciate everybody and need them they understand.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
I need the community to understand.

Speaker 4 (11:10):
Like our kids feel it, Like you can feel it
when you're down there, all of you are on top
of us.

Speaker 3 (11:15):
You can feel energy like that.

Speaker 4 (11:17):
And when the band and mister Wagner's roops rolling and
Coach Johnson all them and the cheerleaders are rolling, it's
just it creates this energy that maybe you know, you
find something deep inside yourself you didn't know was there
that little drop of energy that's left after the sixtieth
play that gets a stop for us.

Speaker 3 (11:32):
So we need our people, We need our students.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
You know, we need everybody there early and just create
an incredible environment because once again, this the whole thing's
about the experience for kids, and what an incredible experience
for our seniors to go out there in front of
our home crowd and hopefully get a big win, you know,
and seal or get close to sealing up a playoff
birth at home in Boldark, saying it just would be
an incredible night, and I appreciate everybody for coming out,

(11:56):
and I know what it'll be packed Friday.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
Yeah, and the weather looks good too, so no excuses,
So backing out Friday night Bulldog Stadium. We'll continue more
here on The Brian Moore Show. We're going to talk
receivers here for the Bulldogs right after this time out
here on the Brian Moore Show. Back here on The
Brian Moore Show, present to Mike, Glen Smith, Chevy GMC
and Opelaika Van Riggs. Alongside, we've got coach Jackson Billings
and Jamie Ferguson, and we've also got special guest wide

(12:18):
receivers Brody Jones and Jamari Miller and coaches will start
with you guys, talk about these wide receivers, and I
know this is just a few of them that are here,
and Coach Ferguson will start with you. I know, the
wide receiving group's pretty good this year.

Speaker 6 (12:31):
Yeah, we got a really good group. We have two
of our seniors with us today, Brody Joes and Fat
Jamary Miller. Really really proud of both these two guys.
They really are really good leaders for our football team
as a whole. But they actually also really show what
it's supposed to be to be a leader for these
younger guys that we have Vinament receivers so well, we're

(12:54):
really blessed to have these two and they perform really
well on Friday nights too.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
That helps.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
Coach only tell us a little bit about yourself, I know,
and how you wound up here at Opaka and just
talk about you know, your coaching background.

Speaker 7 (13:06):
Yes, sir, obviously young guy, just twenty two, so I'm
new to this. I just got done playing at Auburn
in the past four years. I thought I was gonna
end up in the college scene. That didn't quite work out,
but it worked out for the best. I'm happy to
be here. It's been nothing short of amazing.

Speaker 8 (13:23):
And again, these two guys make it really easy, really
fun to be here, and beyond just these two, the
whole group a ton of talent, a ton of guys
that are just super fun to be around and so
always wanted to be a coach, always wanted to do
it at the highest level in high school, and so
to be here at this young of an age, I'm
just super blessed.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
To be here.

Speaker 8 (13:40):
I'm super fortunate and I love it every day of it.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
All right, we'll get a couple questions for the guys.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
First. We'll start with you, Jamar.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
You've got to let me know where the nickname fat
came from, so it kind of give us a little
background on that.

Speaker 9 (13:51):
When I was a baby, I was like kind of
fat to though, So there's one nick nick come.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
From, so it's been around for a while, Yes, sir,
all right, big play. I know you've been running the
ball and making big plays for the Bulldogs kind of
is there a play that stands out so far this season?
I know you've had a couple of the past few weeks.

Speaker 9 (14:08):
To play for Smith Station. It was like eighty order
Brody had two knockdowns in their player I think, Yeah,
so that's my favorite.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
One, Yeah, all right, any others in stand.

Speaker 9 (14:18):
Down this past Friday, I had a long rind I think,
Oh no, I just hit a bursting You know, Brody
was blacking on that play too, So that's.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
A good play.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
So running or catching, which one is your preference if
it had to come down to.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
It, because you're probably catching?

Speaker 2 (14:34):
Yeah, all right, now, Brody, will we'll pass the mic
over to you. I know you probably got to go
back to the Auburn game for for maybe your highlight
catching your career.

Speaker 5 (14:43):
Yes, I mean I was just to be honest, Kobe
probably should have ran it in, but uh when I
used to evolved in there, I just knew how to
go get it. So, I mean it was a good,
good throw. The only place that the ball could have
been for me to get it, So just happened to
work out.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
You had a big fumble recovery maybe in that game
as well.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Didn't you.

Speaker 5 (15:02):
Yes, sir, there's a lot of things going down in
the bottom of that file. I don't know if I'm
allowed to save, but I just I just had to
get that ball back because he's just not going to
take a ball away from away from me.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
One of those aggressive wide receivers, probably apful like it
has ever had, or at least in my recent memory.
And Brody, I know, one big thing you do that
a lot of people may not notice on the field
is blocking downfield on some of these big runs.

Speaker 5 (15:24):
I know you enjoy that, yes, sir, I mean, it's
just it's just the way that I play football. It's
just I mean, I'm not the fastest, but I'm not like.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
I'm not like him.

Speaker 5 (15:34):
He's He's more explosive than me. But I'd rather him
get all the catches and me be able to block
for him because he deserves it.

Speaker 2 (15:41):
And Jamari, a question to you, I know, because you
have really worked on that part of your game this year,
is walking downfield in the run game.

Speaker 9 (15:51):
No, last year I didn't. I didn't really block that much,
but close have been on to me a lot, so
I gotta make it happen.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Yeah, It's one of those things you gotta do, right, yes, sir.
And when the guy behind you, like you know, Calvin
and making those big runs, it makes it worth it, right, yes, sir?

Speaker 5 (16:04):
All right?

Speaker 2 (16:04):
First off, what do you think about the game Friday
night against the Enterprise. I know they've gotten us the
past couple of years. I know you guys are ready
to go, right, Yes.

Speaker 9 (16:10):
Sir, we were excited about it. It was just it
has to be done. We want to get to the
big stage, so be doing whatever it takes.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
All right, Coach Ferguson, I know you've been around a while.
I mean, you know how these games are, and then
in this region you really can't slip up and lose one.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
You may be at home, that's right.

Speaker 6 (16:27):
And you know the reagion we're in. There's six teams
that are really really good, like top ten teams. So
two of those teams are gonna be sitting in at
the house. And unfortunately the last couple of years, it's
been to us and these these guys, these seniors senior group,
like they've really been working and we've always worked, but
we've worked tremendously hard. You know a lot more about

(16:50):
us as opposed to everybody else since February, and it's
showing up on Friday nights and it's got to continue
to show up this Friday night. I'm really excited to
see what happens with this group because I think it's
going to be electric. You know, we got really good
receivers that are here at Our running backs are running
really hard, Our linemen are doing great things. Defense played
probably their best game they've played in years last week.

(17:14):
Special teams have been really good. I feel really good
about this team. I think it's a special team that
can do special things. And we've been trying to get
these guys to we as coaches see it, to get
these kids to buy in, to understand a you have
everything you need to do what we want to do,
which is get to the last game. And I don't
think any of us want to make any bones about that.
That's our goal, right we want to get to the

(17:35):
last one and win it.

Speaker 2 (17:37):
Broughte any message to the fans out there that mayb
be sitting on the fence, maybe decide whether or not
they're gonna come to the game Friday night.

Speaker 5 (17:42):
You got to come. I mean it's going to be
a great game, be a great as Sure, they got dudes,
we got dues, But to be honest, I take I
take my dues over anybody in the country. So you've
got to come out and shot out support.

Speaker 2 (17:53):
And coach Billdings, I know you're familiar with this enterprise
team there, then you know the task at hand, it's
going to be.

Speaker 7 (17:57):
A tough one, yes, sir, big time players, probably some
of the best individual guys that we've seen all year,
probably some of the best we'll see throughout the year.
And so but again, like ready said, we've got guys too,
and I trust these guys on anybody that I've seen,
and so I'm excited just to go out there to
war with him, be there every step of the way,
and you go get the job done, all right.

Speaker 2 (18:18):
Don't forget Coach Moore's lunching on luncheon on Thursday, First
Baptist Church overlike it starts at noon, three sixteen Center.
Make sure and make your plans to be there. I
know we're gonna have some special guests this week. I
think Coach Moore said the Scout team guys will be
