Speaker 1 (00:08):
The city was wet like a dog shaking off bad luck.
The name Sam red Zone, private investigator, some Chase dreams,
some Chase Dames. Me I Chase shadows. Tonight's shadow had
a name, Jason, a general manager who vanished on draft night.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Mister red Zone, My name's brit First and Goald. My
husband Chason is missing. He's a GM. If he didn't
make the draft the whole season.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Seven, she was troubled, poured into a red dress. Eyes
like end zones. Once you crossed, you weren't coming back,
all right? Missus first and Goal? Where'd he run off to?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
He left with his draft magazine said he needed one
last look in his picks.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
Then nothing.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
I think Vinnie the blitz Lombardo got to him.

Speaker 1 (01:15):
Vinnie a gambler who treated quarterbacks like ponds and gms
like targets. If Vinnie had Jason, the draft was already rigged.
First stop was the blind Side tavern. Word on the

(01:35):
street said Jason was seen here last arguing with a
bookie over the draft. I found a bar napkin with
his handwriting scrawled across. It looks like a draft list,
but one look told me it was fake. Halfback scribbled
as quarterbacks linemen listed his wide outs a pump fake
someone wanted to be chasing the wrong play. The real

(02:05):
trail ended in Rivers Street Alley. A torn page from
Jason's actual draft magazine fluttered in the gutter. That's when
I heard him, Vinnie the Blitz.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Well, if it ain't Sam red Zone always blitzing into
my business.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Where's Jason?

Speaker 3 (02:23):
Vinnie relaxed?

Speaker 4 (02:26):
The kid's still breathing for now. All I want is
that magazine. It's got every sleeper, every steal. With it,
I own the draft. Without it, Jason gets benched permanently.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Not tonight, Vinnie, hand it over.

Speaker 4 (02:46):
Careful, red Zone. You rush me, you get sacked.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
When the smoke cleared, Vinnie was faced down in the
Jason was alive, barely. The draft magazine was safe.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
You saved in, mister red Zone. You saved our season.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Don't think me, sweetheart. Thank the rain. It washes the
blood off the pavement, but it never seems to wash
the stink of this town. In the end, Jason made
his picks, the team had a future, and Vinnie the
Blitz took a permanent time out. But in football and
in life, it's always fourth down and the clock never stops.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
I could care, Hello, Dave, I would tell you your
fantasy buddies. Reality is the thing we don't want to forget.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Doctor Riccado, I'm not comfortable.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
The balls are anything but deflated.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Picked up my son here.

Speaker 6 (04:00):
The trophy is actually buckled up right next to him.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
I have to apologize to everyone other than Jason.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Puppet mastering his way to success.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
You smurf and smurf not if you bundle it. Health
of the league, knee.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Deep into the waiver wire. These are my confessions.

Speaker 7 (04:18):
I didn't even know what fantasy football was.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
Trying to read time stamps.

Speaker 1 (04:22):
Sixth grade me just laughed so many times I developed
like serious soul ties.

Speaker 4 (04:27):
I can care.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
The texts are flying.

Speaker 4 (04:31):
Mike was silent.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
I'm the threat you get Lucky Trader in the works.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
I mean, the Vikings are winning the Super Bowl. Welcome
into the BTP. That's the Big ten Fantasy Football podcast,
All things Big ten Fantasy Football. We are back. It
is season four. It is episode one of said seasons four.
Let's go around the horn here. My name is Dave
Berger and co host our creative director. Also in the house,

(04:59):
mister Dan Meyer, hello, Dan, and of course and of
course he is back, folks, and of course our executive producer,
mister A. J. Monsieur at aj.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
How you do, buddy, I'm good, I'm good. They said
that this would never happen, but look at us, now.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Look at us. Now we are back. It is. It
is a podcast about our league, but we talk more
than fantasy football. We talk life, we talk inside jokes,
we review our twenty three year history, and so we
welcome beyond the tens of listens, beyond the tens of downloads,
we welcome anybody in the fantasy football community to come up, listen, in,

(05:36):
join in, participate, and hear what it means to have
a league that's pretty unique, just like ours, the Big
Ten Fantasy Football League. We have lots to get through
on our very very first episode. People, guys have been
clamoring for this episode. People have been clamoring for this
season to return. We are finally here and it feels
pretty good.

Speaker 4 (05:56):
It feels great. Got off to a bit of a delight.
We can talk about that in a little bit, but
we are back. This was you know, this is podcast
has always been one of the things that I think
has brought this league together, a different way to bond,
a different way to joke, a different way to have
some fun. And I think people were missing that through
what are we through? Three weeks? Four weeks, four weeks

(06:18):
already we already of the fantasy football season. We missed
a lot and there's a lot to be caught up
on as well.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
We're four weeks in, but for some reason, my schedule,
my win loss schedule shows me at like six or
seven or eight. I'd love to chat a little bit
about this whole median score.

Speaker 1 (06:36):
Now, Oh, we have lots to get to, Dan, we
have lots to get to We'll talk that. We'll talk
sort of what's happened in the last month here. We've
got a special guest later. Of course, we got to
recap the draft. We may even have a commissioner mail
bag letter or two. So we've got plenty plenty to
get to. Good letters exactly. I will say, ag, I

(06:58):
think you're right. I think I think you could raw
I think you could draw some comparisons, you could draw
some lines to that. When the podcast is is, you know,
a weekly element to the season, then I think there's
more on the text thread. I think there's more trade offers.
I think there's more general excitement around fantasy football. I
think when you pull, I think what we're seeing with

(07:19):
the data shows is that when without the podcast, I
don't think there's as many trades. I don't think there's
as many there's not as much excitement about fantasy football.
I think I think this whole, this whole league rests
on the podcast.

Speaker 4 (07:31):
Yeah, so what you're saying is you have five or
six trades that are pending, and you're hoping that this
is going to push people, you know, to start waking
up and accept your trades. Yeah, I do believe. I
rejected one today yesterday, So you're you're active, You're out there.

Speaker 1 (07:48):
I'm out there. I had four offered yesterday and I
still have two hanging out there. So again, but I
think this again, this this podcast re energizes people to
all of a sudden check in on the league, what's
going on? Who who made that crazy pickup? Because we
talk about it. Now they've listened to the podcast, and
they get back on the app and they start moving
and shaking again. So anyway, I just yes, that is

(08:09):
maybe a subtle plug that I do have some trade
offers out there ready to wheel and deal. But again,
I think the podcast helps a little bit.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Dave, I think you're spot on. And if we know
again data speaking for US, September is historically a high
trading month in fantasy football. I mean, folks go through
the draft day right and immediately I think this is
nationally they say, oh my word, what did I do?
I got to move my team around? And so I

(08:38):
think a lot of people are just like, oh, it's
already two three, you know, Week one I think might
have the most trades on record. So yeah, I mean,
I think you're absolutely right. I think this could you know,
is it too early in the year to be offering trades,
to be thinking your team is blown up? I don't know.
But I'm I'm I'm I'm three and three, three and five,

(09:01):
I'm middle of the pack and six.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Yeah. Yeah, if the.

Speaker 3 (09:05):
Season ended today, I'm in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
Well, well, if there's so much happening right now in
the league and there's so much to cover, We're gonna
try to keep this under an hour. But there's so
much to cover because you know, you could even go
you could do a whole segment on injuries and just
the devastating injuries already. You can do a whole segment
on just wide receivers and how the top wide receivers
outside of maybe one or two have completely just gone

(09:28):
belly up. Yeah, I mean, there's just there's so much there.
I mean, you look at a guy like AJ Brown,
who you know, he's big money guy, and he just
has not done anything to like even putting up zeros
and one catch performances, multiple one catch performances. So just
there's so much to even to get to. But can I,
you guys, mind if I just throw it back before

(09:49):
we start diving into really some deep fantasy football stuff,
can we throw it back to really the best day
of the fantasy football calendar. You guys know what I'm
talking about, loof you know what you're about. It was,
of course, our evening, our evening at Norman's Draft Day.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Shoot, that's not what we're going to say Draft Day together.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Draft Day was was again very very special night. Got
off to a bit of a rocky start. Yeah, I
want to I want to talk about that because that was, uh,
that was on me, and I took the blame on that.
I I obviously set up the league wrong. I thought
that they would just sort of re rack everything from
every year we've done this for the last several years,

(10:35):
and I guess I missed a checkbox somewhere in there.
It set us up to do a Snake draft, which
I think about half the group was like, well, let's
heck with it. Lit, there is this draft.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
There, there is a quarum that is interested in reviving
that frame. Yeah, and small, small, but mighty.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Yeah, there's a there's a there's an undercurrent, there's a
there's a rass a grassroots effort to try to get
Snake Draft backed, and I think for our twenty fifth
annivers ruit we probably do that as sort of an
homage to where we started. But yeah, AJ, you were.
I mean, I've never seen somebody you know you you
You looked like you were aj Bala it department. Because

(11:18):
you start getting on online, You've got multiple laptops open
around you, you're on sleeper working up a new, a
new way to draft.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
You're over here a brand new draft, including all the
rules that Tol wanted. Literally everything just implemented right out
the gate, and we we didn't end up going with it.
I'm I'm glad we can't leave yahya.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
And no, the history that Yahoo has is part of
the lore of the league. And and I think that
if we were to lose that they would have been disappointing.
So yes, it was a it was a solution that
was crafted out of the dirt and into something so
that we could get something. But it took so long
for us to get from point A to point B

(12:04):
because that was that was you know, attempt number two
or three we were trying to do. We were going
to do a mock draft and see if that worked,
and we were going to do a couple of different things.
And by the time that we got everything to where
we needed to be, we had passed that window of blockage,
if you will, where we couldn't you know, change the
rules and couldn't reset the league. And we ultimately just

(12:26):
reset it and you know, ended up getting home at
eleven thirty pm at the end of the draft, and
you know, it was it was a good it was
a good time. But the you know, there were other
things happening right there was there was one owner missing.
We had one owner who uh thought he was checking
his email but was actually checking something else and couldn't
get his password reconnected and ultimately we probably should have

(12:49):
just left that one b and let them maybe not
do that, because now we look at the prime and
competence at the top of the league, which is a
weird thing to say. I'm sure that'll be a theme
on today's show. But at the same time, had we not,
you know, I worked them through that that password process,
they would have only had the magazine and we probably

(13:10):
would have seen what we've seen for the last is
it three or four years? Three years? Three years of futility.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Yeah, you're you're you're a prime example of servant leadership, right,
the first will be last and last will be first.
You in a way watched the feet of coach Prime,
helping him to ascend to the top. Well, I don't
want to get ahead of myself.

Speaker 1 (13:33):
But no, but think of that visual though he he
literally five minutes prior he's hoisting the trophy, receiving the
applauds of his fellow you know, league mates. Yeah, not
five minutes later he's he's spooning Nick Holst trying to
help him, you know, get gain access to the Internet,

(13:56):
And I mean, what a what a what a giver? Honestly,
So that was just a really special picture. Obviously, a
Baala won the night. I think from an inside joke perspective.
I mean I still think about Bala. I oh, anyway,

(14:20):
exactly exactly. I wrote down other funny things from the night,
you know, obviously just you know, changing a team name
of the last place team is always funny, and really
thinking about what Foss has done. Foss and Halst have
done in this league, you know, trying different things. Now
we add Halst and he still takes last. Just just

(14:42):
the that was is it incompetence? Is it in continents?
Which of course ties into Norman's bathroom situation. There's so
many different you know bits there.

Speaker 3 (14:51):
That's one of my favorite. That's one of my favorite
surveys that I do every year. You know what what
what are you gonna name the last place team? Yes,
someday we should go back and review all the cutting
room floor right pastor peach fuzz. We've got so many
that are out there. I think we should. You know,
there's always someone seed, right, that's usually one that's very

(15:12):
easy to put out there. But yeah, that's always a fun,
a fun experience.

Speaker 1 (15:18):
That's always that's always fun. I wrote down somebody said,
I can do anything. I'm connected to the Internet. I
don't entirely know what that means. Everybody still even I mean,
even though we're all grown in our late thirties and forties,
we all still laugh at the word chubs and stuff.

Speaker 3 (15:40):
I think one of my favorite parts of the night
was when we were still working out the how are
we going to draft? Yes, everyone jump into this smurf
and smurf mock. We couldn't figure it out, and somebody says, well,
we'll just do a mock draft and Dave will input
it all later.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Favorite and what could possibly go wrong?

Speaker 4 (15:59):
Right?

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Like? Who does he think he is? Sixty one?

Speaker 1 (16:06):
Ajala was phenomenal because I read it as I really
thought that as we were all swarming into this mock draft,
everybody's going, come on, Jason, get in there, Dan, We're
all in there, and I go, oh, darn it. Some
Indian guy, some Indian guy snuck in our mock draft.
We had it all perfect. Who I'm like, who's a Bala?

Speaker 3 (16:28):
And of course it's it's ind Ajala.

Speaker 1 (16:34):
From the late night.

Speaker 4 (16:36):
Yeah. No, it's like I think I said this at
least to some of you that night, But that was
my AOL insignt screen AOL and some messengers screen. Yeah. Yeah,
Well back in the day when you'd run home from
school and all the people you just spent the whole
day with, then you chat online with him and it
was cool.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
I missed that.

Speaker 3 (16:56):
Now I'm I'm older than you, but I missed that
by a couple of years. I never did really.

Speaker 4 (17:03):
Scream.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
My sister did, but I never did the AOL chat date.
Did you do AOL chat?

Speaker 1 (17:10):
Did you do like I did? I had a phase
in high school where I was, yeah, you have definitely
run home, and yet door opens and there you are.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
Yeah, got me?

Speaker 1 (17:21):
You see who's online? To chat people up?

Speaker 4 (17:24):
That was so much, so much effort into like what
your your quote unquote away message was, because you know,
you would walk away and it would it would go
to sleep and your away message would pop up, and
it had to be quippi, it had to be clever.

Speaker 3 (17:39):
What was so? What was A J. Bala's What was
O Bala's seventy one? What was his?

Speaker 4 (17:48):
I don't know, I don't know it. And in all reality,
you never really left. You just hit the away button
and you would just sit there and watch and wait
for the people you wanted to pop on to pop on,
and then it was kind of a way for you
to avoid I guess, you know, you know, you could

(18:09):
really go away and just let people know, hey, I'm returning,
you know, run upstairs and grab the mountain doing doritos.
I'll be back. But at the same time, it was,
you know, you didn't want to talk to the people
that were on, right then, uh, so you'd go away
and then once your buds got on, then you'd pop
back in and you can you can do with chat, yes.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
But this was texting before texting, right, This was.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
It was texting before texting because at that time you
were texting with T nine word. Do you remember that
T nine word the old style of texting where I
don't remember how it worked? How did it work?

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Two two two three three three?

Speaker 2 (18:46):
No?

Speaker 4 (18:46):
That was that wasn't it though? T nine word was
like a bridge between one one one two two two
like between that and it was it was like it
would kind of finish your sentence. I think it was anyways,
but yeah, but you paid per text, right, so each
month my dad would would message me, yeah, college or
whatever and say, hey, you had three hundred text messages.
You owe me twenty bucks, you know, because that was

(19:08):
what was limited. Then you were limited on minutes and
you're limited on text messages. Data didn't exist. Wow, the
iPhone didn't exist at that time. Thankfully, on this podcast
we've never been on. We have unlimited minutes.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
You know.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
My only concern would be, uh, you know, how would
we get in touch with with Nate if we went
back to AOL, because I just assumed he would be
on the wrong platform.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
He'd be on friends that are going where are you guys?

Speaker 4 (19:39):
He'd be So I discovered this at college at Bethel. Actually,
if you were I don't know a better way. If
you were a city kid, you had aol Inciant Messenger,
and if you were if you were out state, if
you were a rural Minnesota you had MSN Messenger. And
I think it had to do with your provider, like
MSN was was somehow I just bundled in with the

(20:02):
provider for like the out state Internet provider, whatever it
might be, because all my friends that were from like Princeton
and Wilmer, they all had ms Messenger And how to
do that? Now? Are you guys? You messaged? You mentioned
Dan that you missed aol. It's a messenger. You're a
couple of years older than I am. Did you guys
have pagers?

Speaker 6 (20:21):
No?

Speaker 3 (20:22):
I went on dates. But what what what's the worst
to be fad play video games?

Speaker 4 (20:29):
I might have broke up pagers. Did you have pagers?

Speaker 3 (20:32):
Yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (20:35):
Definitely.

Speaker 3 (20:35):
I had a pager in eighth grade. And it could
slide out of the hook or out.

Speaker 4 (20:42):
Of the clip, the belt loop the belt, it.

Speaker 3 (20:44):
Would slide out of the clip and I would wear
it so you could see the clip sticking out of
my my quarter roy pants. Yeah, because you wanted a
little bit and and and it was it was kind
of it was, you know, show off a little clip
like hey, I got something going down here, sorry, and
it would be And then I would carry in the

(21:05):
other pocket a quarter with which to called back.

Speaker 4 (21:11):
It paid me. Uh huh.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
That's how we That's how we rallied people for the
draft night twenty three years ago. I had to page
everybody and say we're meeting tonight.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
Tonight's the Draveders Avengers assemble in nineteen ninety six.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
Am I right that you would? You would page like
nine one one for like an emergency?

Speaker 3 (21:30):
Yeah, yep, that worked. Yep, the number that you want
them to call back, and then nine.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
One one at the end.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
It was an emergency. You got to spend that quarter
right right.

Speaker 4 (21:43):
Pay phones, did anybody.

Speaker 1 (21:45):
Have Okay, this is okay. Fast forward a few years.
I got really into palm pilots. Was anybody ever into
a palm pilot?

Speaker 3 (21:53):
It was.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
It was hot for a couple of years. Was like,
you can have your own little calendar right here with
a stylist and a little screen that you carry around.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
Overlapped with the BlackBerry, I believe.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
Which it was a little BlackBerry story though maybe a
little pre was.

Speaker 4 (22:08):
It definitely was pre BlackBerry. But once the BlackBerry came on,
the palm pilot was.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
Dead for sure. It was yeah, dead, dead dead.

Speaker 4 (22:14):
I had a palm pilot, like maybe maybe my freshman
year of college. Didn't really use it, but it was
supposed to be used for I played games on it
and stuff the T eight calculator where you could play
all the games, and the Hidden Folders War.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
I lived with a lot of these guys in the league.
I lived with, you know, the Nates and the Mics
and the Jason's and the Dans of the world. The
colleges and then the THEO is pudding and and uh,
I was really hot on one particular item from Best
Buy back in you know, this is probably two thousand
and one, and it was a phone, but it had

(22:52):
a headset and so I could sort of clip my
phone onto my belt buckle. Wasn't a cell phone, it
was still al but I could at least hook sort
of the receiver to my belt buckle, and I could
walk around the apartment with a headset. And I thought
that was really cool, Like what is this guy going
for going forward on fourth down? Like why is we
were in a headset? I looked like a call center agent, right,

(23:13):
But I thought that was so cool to be hands
free and kind of move about my apartment without holding
anything to my ear. And I thought that was so cool.
And I remember Mike actually went shopping with me to
go pick that item out, Mike Toll because he was
sort of a tech gadget. So I thought that was.

Speaker 4 (23:27):
Really cooling Like the cord behind you.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Like was it so your hands had a connection to
the I guess to the receiver that was plugged into
the wall. But then I could hold this other device
and then have this headset and so yeah, I looked
like a like a like a head coach from the
from the eighties. But it was pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
Did you play fantasy football then?

Speaker 1 (23:51):
Yo? Yeah, yeah, that's sort of how we're all. It
was birthed out of that phone.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (23:56):
But you want to go where everybody know that is
a fun memory lane, guys, guys, I want to I
want to just you know, we haven't talked as a
league here for we haven't talked on this podcast for
for a long time, but we haven't really dove into
this first month yet of September. So I want to
I want to just go back and do a few

(24:17):
different league headlines in a little segment I like to
call extra extra what's in the news. So, so a
couple of things, A couple of headlines here that I
find very interesting as I look back on September. Here,
first and foremost, we did something for the first time

(24:37):
in twenty three this twenty three year league history, and
we no longer play a traditional head to head. Some
of you have noticed it was it was vaguely voted
on on draft night, wasn't ever really tied up, wasn't
ever fully fully you know, you know, the whatever we did,

(25:01):
we didn't fully land on anything. The point is, I'm
selling right now because I trying to figure out how
I want to message this.

Speaker 3 (25:08):
But you, I think you probably counted the ballots. I
don't know if you counted the vote right right.

Speaker 1 (25:14):
There was a dominion machine.

Speaker 4 (25:15):
I can't remember.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
But the point is is that it was there was
some interest, and I just sort of took that interest
in the room and I ran with it, and and
I just said, you know what, this this league has
never been a full democracy. There's always been a little
underlying current of a dictatorship where I just say, look,
it's guys rule. Guys, it's time to end the defensive position.
And guys, there's always some guys going defense and I no, no,

(25:39):
trust me. And now that was eight years ago, and
I think we're all like, yeah, it's probably best that
we don't draft defenses. I'll do the same thing with kickers.
A couple of years later, guys were come out. Where
was the vote that was like, trust me, you're going
to like this much better. And I think generally outside
of Greg every year saying I want to do punters,
everybody likes it. So this year there was just enough
interest and enough sort of enthusiasm around doing some sort

(26:03):
of a beyond head to head shake it up. Then
I said, you know what, we're gonna shake it up.
We're gonna shake it up. And it cost me thirty
dollars to unlock that feature, which I will, which I
will incur. I know, I'm I may or may not
be laid on some some some dues from recent years.
We'll get into that. But thirty to thirty five dollars

(26:24):
I paid on my own hard work. I didn't eat
for there was a Tuesday night, our family didn't eat.
But I said, the league needs me.

Speaker 3 (26:32):
I just assumed that that, yeahoo, lets you pay it
off in February.

Speaker 1 (26:38):
I should have bundled it, but I paid the fee.
And now we upgraded into this, into this this certain
threshold where now we can do beyond head to head,
which is now we're playing two games every week, you're
playing your head to head matchup, you're playing the average median,
you're playing sort of that you want. Essentially, you want
to try to be a top five team. Of course,
what do we know that that does? Of course, it

(27:00):
just helps to ensure that that those standings are as
accurate as possible that the actual strong teams are the
top six teams. And I know there's gonna be people
to go, oh, this is just strange. It is different, sure,
but I think over time, I think people will appreciate it. Guys,
what is your reaction to sort of this beyond head
to head playing the average median every week?

Speaker 4 (27:22):
Well, I mean it hurts a little bit more when
you start oh and six talk about it, you know,
the rough start that Truffle got off to. Rather than
looking at oh and three on the scoreboard, you're looking
at oh and six. But I guess that works both
ways because you can probably pretty quickly get yourself back
into the mix. Yeah, I mean, I'm not I'm I
guess some lukewarm on it. I'm neither in love with

(27:44):
it or against it. I think at the end of
the day, it does allow a little bit of balance
when you talk about the strong teams. It's always very
disappointing when you lose one hundred and forty to one
hundred and thirty or whatever it might be. Right, you
had a great week, put up a bunch of much
A point nothing for it, nothing point, We get nothing
for it, you know, in the past. That was just

(28:05):
the way the cookie cromboles and that's fine, But I
guess you get rewarded for it in this way. I'm
looking real quick, one, two, three, I guess you know,
it's about fifty to fifty with the teams that have
benefited from the one point knowingly to the ones who
have the odd and uh and the ones who are
even and probably have gone with two wins or two
losses each week. But yeah, I mean it's a I

(28:25):
guess the jury's out for me as far as how
it's really going to impact it. But I could see
both sides of it.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Yeah, I don't know that it does too much to
your overall standings. Maybe here and there a little bit.
I think we'd be fair. We would have shaken out
fairly similarly to where we are today. Yeah, I worry
about point inflation. I thought we were going to see
point inflation when we added super Flex, super super Flex,
pont Deflex, all these different We really don't. We're still

(28:55):
seeing people score ninety points, a couple of one fifties,
but it's still it almost feels like lower points than
maybe we historically. Maybe it's because kickers would score thirty points.
But I guess that's also what's got me scratching my
head is I would have expected we would be scoring
more points and then these these averages are always so high.

(29:17):
Maybe it's just a weird week with a couple of
really high hitters.

Speaker 1 (29:20):
I think that could be too, And I think injuries
play a role too. I think there's been some weird
scoring sort of across the board too. We can keep
chatting about that as the season goes along, and how
we feel about head to head. A few other headlines,
some interesting things off the waiver wire that I just
want to just highlight real quick. We'll get to AJ's
big move here later on in the show. But September seventeenth,

(29:42):
Mike Tole spends sixty seven fab dollars a massive, massive
I mean, it's not fetichinial failure, but it's it's it's
quite a spend on Jake browning quarterback Cincinnati Bengals, thinking hey,
all right, Burrow goes down, but this offense is ready
to cook. And Jake Brown he's done it before sixty

(30:02):
seven dollars and now he is on the scrap heap
of the waiver wire. Two weeks later, Jake Browning sits
atop the waiver wire scrap heap sixty seven dollars down
the drain flusher sound or.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
Oh that's been plunging it.

Speaker 1 (30:23):
Oh it's bubbling back up, Jake brown and get back
down there. Of course his name is Browning, but anyway,
so that's just fascinating to me. And then again it
happened again a week ago, Trey Benson, bring us there,
sixty three dollars Tray Benson. Yeah, out not for the

(30:44):
year though, but for a good chunk of time and.

Speaker 3 (30:48):
Eight.

Speaker 1 (30:49):
So I just think that's you know, to see that
in the first you know, two sixty dollars, guys get immediately,
you know, a lot of excitement and then boom, you
come crashing down to earth. That is that is fascinating
to me. And finally, I will just say, as it
relates to sort of headlines, and we talked about this
happened last year too. But again he's taken last three
years in a row. He's going for his fourth straight

(31:09):
last place finish and prime incompetence has found himself in
the first place with a seven and one record, and hey,
let's see what happens. Let's see where this all falls.
And we're going to hear from Foss in a little bit,
but before we do, I want to throw it to

(31:32):
a little bit of an audio break where you can
hear from another general manager about his reaction to the
start of the season.

Speaker 6 (31:39):
Hey, big ten air balls GM, Greg Meyer here. I
was asked to send in a little clip here of
draft day reaction. How the first month of the season
has started. It was fun seeing all you guys, obviously
for the draft. Always a great night of the year.
You know, I was pretty confident after the draft. I

(32:00):
went big on two you know, potential MVP caliber qbs,
Jamiir Gibbs. I spent a lot of money on those guys.
Week two, both the qbs go down, So a little
disappointment there.

Speaker 4 (32:13):
I'm not always.

Speaker 6 (32:15):
Fun when you're streaming qbs in a two quarterback league
to start Week three, so not the start I wanted.
I think I will battle back, you know, I got
some some weapons on the bench that hopefully will be
coming back from injury here shortly. But looking forward to
the rest of the year and battling with you guys.

Speaker 4 (32:36):
Thanks, and of course.

Speaker 1 (32:40):
That's Greg, Jaden Daniels, Joe Burrow banged up right away
early and he had to adjust and pivot. Guys, as
we always do here at the Big Ten Fantasy Football Podcast,
the BTP, we have guests, we we hear from the
newsmakers of the league. Aj Dan want to bring in
right now a very special duo, really our only u

(33:00):
O in the league. Nick Halls, John Foss. Welcome to
the BTP. How are you guys doing?

Speaker 4 (33:13):
Keep here on note see this is the best part.
He his microphone's not hooked up, and he is the
one who in our private chat was making a joke
about helping Nick out with his camera because of the
tech issues at the draft. Meanwhile, the guy who has
put in owner as his name his label doesn't have

(33:34):
the microphone working. Foss, can can you hear us? Now?
We can't hear you though. That's the problem.

Speaker 1 (33:40):
This is when you're when you're a franchise of at
this level, this is par for the course.

Speaker 4 (33:48):
It is to be expected.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
There is this thought that maybe he's just leaving it
on the field. He doesn't need to talk, he doesn't
need to come and speak for anything.

Speaker 1 (34:00):
A j can you go over to can you get
over to Nick's house and figure out how.

Speaker 4 (34:03):
To I think Nick's good. I think it's fun. Nick.
Can you hear us?

Speaker 1 (34:08):
Oh?

Speaker 4 (34:09):
Should neither of them have their mics working? Okay?

Speaker 1 (34:14):
You know, well obviously we'll edit this out in post.
But now this is gold.

Speaker 3 (34:21):
What are you talking about? I want to keep this.

Speaker 4 (34:24):
Okay, you guys are both gonna have to probably pop
into your settings that your microphone.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Literally we're gonna.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
Company.

Speaker 4 (34:36):
Hang on, I think we got fun.

Speaker 7 (34:37):
All right, go to the cook on the mic.

Speaker 1 (34:42):
Oh no, this is Prime incompetence.

Speaker 4 (34:51):
We can't you hear me? Now, there we go.

Speaker 7 (34:56):
We focused mostly on winning, so it's like we don't
have a lot of time for him.

Speaker 1 (35:01):
Is this MSN messenger? What is this? A? Well, guys,
walcome to board, Welcome to the BTP. We're excited to
have you guys seven and one talk about it.

Speaker 7 (35:14):
I think I think I should just let Prime do
the talking because he's the mastermind. You know.

Speaker 8 (35:19):
Yeah, No, I'm I'm happy with how the team's performing
right now. There was some question marks that you know
after week two and uh we lost Burrow to Chase
Daniels or who's my receiver? That jamar Chase?

Speaker 4 (35:42):
Thank you?

Speaker 8 (35:42):
That doesn't get any touches lately, but uh yeah, overall,
I mean we're president, We're really happy with how the
team's performing, and you know, hopefully we can keep it up.

Speaker 4 (35:55):
You have some young players that are are performing b
Jon Robinson kind of coming through. You went big on
a couple of players. Obviously the Jamar Chase went not
working out. I'm on Ross Saint Brown I think has
been the one, not a big surprise, but overperformed where
I think people are putting put him at the beginning
of this. But I look at your lineup this week.

(36:16):
You have running backs this week. Jon's on a buy,
but your running backs are Chuba Hubbard and r. J. Harvey.
Not exactly the type of running back due you would
see with the top team. But at the same time,
you're averaging more than one hundred and where we just
had it one hundred and fifteen points per week so far.
Is it matchups or where we loving the team that

(36:37):
we have to put on the field each week. Davonte
Williams obviously just bombing away.

Speaker 8 (36:42):
Yeah, No, I'm loving our team right now. Everybody except
for the really the tight up position has performed pretty well.
Fasts given me a heads up how he doesn't like Kelsey,
but that's I guess who we're going to roll with
and hopefully he can step it up as well for us.
So yeah, it's it's been a fun team to coach

(37:05):
this year and we couldn't be proud of the guys.

Speaker 1 (37:10):
You can tell it's it's by season coming soon when
you have to spend thirty one dollars on Spencer Rattler.
That was quite the move this week for a for
a pretty weak quarterback. But good luck and we'll see
how that works out. Of course, I would like to
play a little game right now with John Foss, and
that is a little game show. I like to play
with him every time he's a guest here, and that

(37:31):
is a little show. I like to call. Name any
player on your roster.

Speaker 7 (37:37):
Well, let's see.

Speaker 3 (37:41):
Job.

Speaker 7 (37:42):
Okay, So we have Russell Wilson on the bench, right,
I know that, gotcha?

Speaker 1 (37:53):
We have Kelsey, he's terrible, we have let's see, that's
pretty good. Fuss.

Speaker 3 (38:01):
I've been paying attention, haven't I halt.

Speaker 8 (38:03):
Yeah, it's hard to believe, guys, but I've gotten more
text messages this year about team performance going into Sunday
night than the last two years combined.

Speaker 1 (38:16):
So we're on board with this year.

Speaker 8 (38:19):
It's it's a winter win it all at.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
See what happens.

Speaker 3 (38:26):
Playoffs be nice.

Speaker 1 (38:27):
Yeah, it's a good point.

Speaker 7 (38:30):
Yeahrom old school. So you remember Jerry Jones came in
and I kind of look at myself like like the
Jerry Jones of the league. He brought in Jimmy Johnson.
He won one game his first season, so I kind
of knew that was gonna be the case. When you
came in, you need I think you out for maybe
one of two games. I was impressed, and then I

(38:53):
knew it was gonna take a couple of years.

Speaker 4 (38:54):
You know.

Speaker 7 (38:54):
We had to have like a herschel Walker moment where
everybody's like, oh man, these guys are prime incompetence.

Speaker 3 (38:59):
Oh it's who are these guys? This is a bye week.

Speaker 7 (39:01):
I don't even care about these guys. This like I'm
gonna win.

Speaker 3 (39:04):
I'm not even paying attention. And then all of a sudden.

Speaker 7 (39:07):
It's the nineteen nineties and right now we're parting like
it's nineteen ninety nine.

Speaker 1 (39:15):
Oh yeah, you guys are Yeah, you're following the same
if you follow that same cowboys, Oh let's go, you know,
what a Michael Irvin throwback. It's actually does Bryant what
is that boom?

Speaker 4 (39:32):
Wow?

Speaker 7 (39:34):
Would you say to Tony Ramos is solid, He's solid.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
No, let's talk.

Speaker 1 (39:41):
Well, we don't have to talk about your team. We
know your team is crushing right now. I will say
for fantas football teams who have Jamar Chase, I would say,
you're a You're in a rare You're in some rarefied
air with with Jamar Chase doing what he has not
done in this first month of the season, and you
guys are finding yourself in first place and you still
don't even have a Chase Jamar Chase who's doing anything

(40:01):
right now. That's that That's pretty impressive that you've been
able to overcome that sort of big gap in your
in your lineup. But if he does find a way
to return to normalcy, uh, it could be a very
dangerous lineup. So I'm proud of you guys. Uh foss,
You've been wanting to have You'd been wanting this podcast
to return for many many months. Now it's finally here.

(40:21):
This podcast is back. We're talking Big Ten, Fantasy Football,
and all the things associated with this league. How does
it feel to not only be our first guest to
have this podcast back.

Speaker 3 (40:30):
Oh it's great.

Speaker 7 (40:31):
I mean like the amount of times I've hit refresh
on like the podcast to see if there was gonna
be a new episode.

Speaker 4 (40:37):
You know.

Speaker 7 (40:37):
It's like when he played in ten, I got sorry
that was me. So I'm happy about it. I don't
feel like we're quite there yet. I've noticed no sounders yet.
Like I feel like when we get back there, then
it's going to be like, oh, you know, we got
the little like soap opera to open the show, Like,
then we'll be back in back where we were. You know,
there was there was a moment that took place last

(40:59):
year where there's kind of like the you know, like
the Black Sox type issue where you know, there's a
big scandal. Yeah, and it's and we're trying.

Speaker 4 (41:08):
To come back.

Speaker 7 (41:09):
You know, remember the strike year for baseball, it took
a couple of years to get back. They needed to
do this right year.

Speaker 3 (41:14):
So I feel like we're working our way back up well.

Speaker 7 (41:16):
And I and it's like, you know, I used to
come home to do the you guys came home to
do the AOL chat. I would come home to do
the side the side chat, and like, now that the
side chat is calming down, I feel like that's a
sign that we're coming together, which is good and a
bad thing. I don't have much to do after when
I come home from work. But at the same time,
it shows the growth of the league, which I'm happy

(41:37):
about that. So really like, I really positive. But I
think we're gonna work our way back up to where
we have sounders and we have open we have the
so proper because I've been dying to find out what's
gonna happen. But I guess my question for you guys,
I don't I'm not the interviewer here, but throw this
back to you, Dan and Dave. I guess my question
would be, was it worth it?

Speaker 3 (41:58):
So John, I will say, in video production, there's this
thing called post production. I don't know if you're familiar
with with this. You can actually add things and after you.

Speaker 4 (42:14):
Gotta push a button bar.

Speaker 7 (42:15):
I thought, come on, is the only true radio person
in the room, Sola, let him speak up.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
We'll do. That's the only thing we got. Our button
bar right now is from Here's Halloween episode. You guys
are the best you are? You two together adds so
much to this league and and foss I will just say,
we're gonna have a segment later in the show around
sort of who's won the thread. And when I think

(42:45):
about the text thread, John, you keep that thing alive,
by hell or high water. You're gonna keep that thread alive.
And I appreciate I appreciate it, and and the energy
and and the the various monologues on that thread. You
you keep going. I appreciate that, ye.

Speaker 3 (43:01):
Paul Springs. Last I text everyone, I'm a little worried.

Speaker 8 (43:05):
I feel like this is what happened last year where
we were on this like in the room, you know,
Rocket to the Moon.

Speaker 1 (43:13):
We're doing great, and.

Speaker 7 (43:14):
Then all of a sudden, like I said, I looked
at the schedule and honestly, I didn't see another W
on the schedule.

Speaker 1 (43:19):
So alright, we had you on as guests last year
early on it's Obtember another game. No, I think we
may have took off. Though his podcast two weeks ago,
it's the same storyline as last year. You guys started
off so hot and literally tanked from there. We hope
it doesn't happen. We hope you guys can be a

(43:41):
playoff team this year. You would just finally, finally break through.
It wouldn't that be amazing?

Speaker 3 (43:45):
It would be It's like.

Speaker 7 (43:46):
The timberwol you have like thirty bad years and then
all of a sudden it's like you.

Speaker 1 (43:51):
Yeah, you guys are the best. Feel free to hang on.
We are so thankful that you guys were our first
guest for episode one or season four. We appreciate you
and good luck the rest of the way.

Speaker 7 (44:04):
Thank you. Thank for having us cast coming back. So
now I can I can rest easy. I'm actually sleep second,
wake up and listen to.

Speaker 1 (44:11):
It so hopefully. Yeah, I love it, you.

Speaker 3 (44:14):
Guys, Thank you so much, Thank you so much to
both of you.

Speaker 1 (44:18):
A J.

Speaker 3 (44:18):
Dave. That last segment was brought to you by icedy Hot,
Icedy Hot for your sore thumb. I hope, I hope
it works out for you there. John, appreciate it. I'm
getting to work on it. There's a rehab, you know,
but we'll get there, just like the league. We're coming
back slow.

Speaker 1 (44:37):
Thank you guys, Thank you guys. You know Dan, we
talked about it in our interview with with Foss and Halst.
The thread is is pops off every once in a while,
and it is pretty fun to follow what happens on
the thread. What else has sort of happened over the
last month here that that has caught your eye on
on our BT text thread.

Speaker 3 (44:53):
Oh, Dave, I have absolutely loved all this discussion about
the Ryder Cup. That has really kept my attention. You know,
when I'm I'm coming here, I want to talk lead
lore history and I'm like, hey, I got thirty five
text messages to come back to all about the Ryder Cup.

(45:14):
Like that has been so hither that that was a treuble. No,
in all seriousness, you know, a lot has happened on
the thread. Hard hard to talk about all of the
all of the highlights. You know, I like when people
do pictures, right, so you think we're remembering Draft Day

(45:34):
with with picks and clips on that.

Speaker 4 (45:37):
I love.

Speaker 3 (45:38):
I'd love you know, obviously host coming in there. I
think one of my favorites the Jason giff Fantasy Football.
I mean, you know, honestly, this is this is something
that now that we're videoing these, I don't I'm very
hesitant to do anything on camera because I know AJ

(46:00):
will go find it and he'll produce. Yeah, he'll produce something.
It's gonna be me doing the snake whatever, something I
need to be very careful.

Speaker 7 (46:14):
It is.

Speaker 4 (46:14):
Uh yeah, that's one one of the little known things
that is the benefit of being the executive producer, I
think is what we call it is. Yeah, I do have
the the archives. I do have the ability to deep
dive into the film create some gifts that will live
on forever. I believe now that sign that said I
I suck a fantasy football that was given to our

(46:36):
last guest right a couple of years ago, Foss and yeah,
Foss seriously disappeared pretty quickly.

Speaker 3 (46:43):
Yeah, I mean, I'm sure you threw it out at
Normans in the trash can, so you know, I mean,
keep in mind, guys, the spread Again, it's not just
you know where you go for the latest and big
ten fantasy football and apparently ryder Cup you also you know,
putting out their prayer requests, right yep, there you go,
see to the jazz hands in that one. You know,

(47:08):
it's you know, in all seriousness, we'll put prayer requests
out there when we're when we're concerned about you know,
family friends, those that we know, those that we don't know,
we'll put that out there. Again, we are a league
that that that you know come comes together to support
each other, to lift each other up, to have each
other's back. Unless you are needed as a dodgeball rap,

(47:30):
then get out of here.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
And sometimes you've got to just copy paste a request
from last year because you're you're the way you pitched
it last year worked so well you might as well
try it again.

Speaker 3 (47:43):
But I feel bad because I'm actually gonna be at
Bethel that night at the Robertson Center with eight eleven
year old girls watching the girls play volleyball. So it's
hard for me to say I can't. Well why not.
I'll be like literally one hundred yards from you.

Speaker 1 (48:00):
Are you need to take you need to take a
selfie with the with the dodgeball game going on behind
you and put it on the thread.

Speaker 3 (48:06):
Yeah, yeah, I would have called this out. Okay, I'll
do it.

Speaker 1 (48:10):
Okay, totally, guys. I just want you to know that
here at Big ten Headquarters, we do get letters. Do
you guys know this? I do have heard we get
a lot of mail and the I okay sounder button

(48:34):
bar so, so in my hand I have our first
letter that came in this year, actually came in a
couple of couple of days ago, actually yesterday, and I
will read it now. It says, dear Commission, it's Woody Marx.

(48:55):
It's everybody's hot new favorite running back, Woody Marx. He says,
it's Woody Marks here, Texans running back. I just saw
someone drop seventy one dollars of fab on me. I'm flattered,
but honestly, that's embarrassing. Sure, I'm thankful about it, but
paying that much for Woody feels like someone got a

(49:17):
little carried away with their excitement. I mean, that's way
too stiff a price. Now I'm worried about performance anxiety
this week. Please add a rule for buyer's remorse protection.
Maybe a hug and a blue Chew gift card signed
horrified in Houston. Mister Woody Marks, guys, he wrote the show.

Speaker 4 (49:41):
Wow, Yeah, I think I think it might be fair
to say it was a bit premature the older Yeah.
So here here's the scoop. Here's here's the story on
the old Woody Mark situation. Story on the old Woody

(50:02):
buyer's remorse is kicked in pretty heavy. I went to
I lost out last week on Trey Benson on what
I thought was a pretty aggressive bid that I put in.
Did Greg get Benson? Right? Is that memory serving me correct?

Speaker 3 (50:19):
Yeah, he's already sixty sixty three dollars, Yeah, sixty three
with fifty six.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
I know.

Speaker 4 (50:26):
I went in at thirty eight and I thought that
was pretty aggressive, and I and I missed out, and
I went in and looked to see what people had
been bidding, and I saw a sixty three dollars bid.
I saw a sixty seven dollars bid for Jake Browning
a couple of weeks ago. So I thought, hey, this
is you know, Woody Marks is the you know, the
cats meow, the new top guy, probably taking over the

(50:49):
starting position, maybe the rest of the season in Houston.
So I went in pretty heavy. What I what I
didn't plan on. What I didn't plan on is spending
seventy one dollars on on Woody Marks. And then also
what was the other one I got Darren? I spent
a lot of money on Darren Waller. To me, so

(51:09):
now I'm down to like, you.

Speaker 1 (51:11):
Have six dollars, you have six dollars for making.

Speaker 4 (51:15):
So I didn't need Woody Marks. I have three three
pretty good running backs, James Cook, Quin, Shawn Judkins Ashton
Gent didn't I didn't need him, but I think I
just felt I'm not I don't know how. I don't know.
I don't know how to do this from the bottom.
I don't know how to do this from the ninth
spot in the league. I don't know how to I

(51:36):
don't know how to perform from the bottom of the
rankings and and boost myself back up. So I think
I panicked a little. We'll see again.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
This is a different side of you than we've seen.
It's weird historically as we're seeing like I'm not doing
that trade off or this is a great I knew
three dimensional what the guy was gonna do six weeks
out with his matchups.

Speaker 4 (52:03):
That's why I'm doing this with you now. You know, well,
time will I mean, I could still play out here.
We'll see.

Speaker 3 (52:09):
I just I like this side of you. I feel
like we're getting to see more of the human side
of you. We see that you do actually have like,
you know, not anxiety, but you were kind of like,
oh no, I'm flustered. I haven't get him.

Speaker 1 (52:23):
This is this is similar script to last year. AJ
had a dark, dark place last year too, where he
was flirting with last place. Yes, and he was going,
I don't know what to do down here, and what's
it like down here? And if I'm panicky?

Speaker 4 (52:38):
And he was down down, down in the dumps. Last
year I lost four in a row. I was sitting
at two and five, probably towards the bottom, and then.

Speaker 1 (52:49):
Eight, Yes, and it was doom and gloom, and all
of a sudden, AJ, you make a move, you make
a trade, you do a wheel and deal, and hey,
I'm in the Vikings locker, I'm getting insider information and
all skyrot that Woody skyrocketed, and you won the league
last year, won the league last year.

Speaker 3 (53:06):
Okay, I was going to ask and John about being
a hustler A jing, I mean, that's your playbook.

Speaker 4 (53:17):
I'm glad we had this conversation. Guys. This has made
me actually feel a lot better about the prospects of
the season and where I'm at right now. This is good.

Speaker 1 (53:26):
And the first one to say, if you like a guy,
go get your guy. And obviously you felt you felt
convicted on that guy. And now you have a trade,
a trade element, so which, by the way, there has
not been a trade executed this season yet, so what
happens there but I'm proud that you got your Woody.
I'm excited for you. If if he you know, if

(53:49):
he lasts four hours in that game, I would call
your call your team doctor don't know.

Speaker 3 (53:57):
I did reach out to Greg for comment. He would
not commit to saying your season is open, so I
think there's likely you know lesson Yeah, all bets are off.

Speaker 4 (54:12):
If anyone has any suggestions on what to do with
my whatdy, please let me know and we will We'll
figure it out.

Speaker 3 (54:18):
I don't know by now. I would start him. I
would start him this week. I would I would lead
into it.

Speaker 1 (54:24):
Now you have to start him seventy one for the bench.
You can't go down Ben, But I can't bet any
of those other guys. I can't bench cook. J just
went off and Judkins is like the coup de gras
Right now, Judkins is going to get sucked by the Vikings.
You know that.

Speaker 4 (54:42):
Have you watched the Vikings? I have, I have who's
the Atlanta John Robinson went crazy against?

Speaker 1 (54:50):
Yeah, OK, all right, whatever you however you want to
spend your money.

Speaker 3 (54:55):
And I would start him this week because if he
follows Browning and Benson, who were the two other high
priced fab guys, you got one week left? You got
one week left?

Speaker 4 (55:07):
You want me to start him because I'm playing you
this week?

Speaker 3 (55:10):
Oh are you? Are you.

Speaker 1 (55:14):
Well? Speaking of who plays who? Dan, it's it's one
of our favorite segments.

Speaker 3 (55:20):
Who, gentlemen, I think we're gonna do something a little
bit different here with pod picks. I don't know that
we need to go around the horn and say who
we think is gonna win. But I'd love to just
get some insider information from.

Speaker 4 (55:35):
Both of you.

Speaker 3 (55:36):
I'd like to see how your minds work. I respect
both of you as football minds. I appreciate the commentary
that you bring in the football space. Yeah, I mean
I think you know, uh uh, you know, men and
pets agree that you two are both Titans in this

(55:56):
league when it comes to fans football. I'd love to
just walk down what do you have your eye on?
What are you looking at in each of these in
each of these matchups, And I'd love to just start.
I'd love to start here with the air balls and
the prime incompetence matchup this week one O six, one twelve.

(56:23):
Presently that's roughly the score Prime incompetence up slightly. It's
a David versus Goliath.

Speaker 1 (56:31):
It is it is what do you have?

Speaker 3 (56:34):
What do you have?

Speaker 1 (56:35):
Well, it's classic health of the league. I mean, this
is a classic health of league matchup. This is where
you want your bottom feeder to snipe one here. Not
just because I love Greg and although I do, but
I want I want I want equilibrium restored and I
want people fighting for the for the center. Right. We're
a politically divided nation right now, there's the extremes on

(56:58):
either end, right, wouldn't it be nice and we could
sort of come back to the to the center and
sort of just learn to live together again. Because you
don't read as following anyway, The point is, the point
is is that this is health of a league matchup.
And you know, for and because I am I'm close
personal friends with doctor Riccardo. He is my he is

(57:20):
my general you know, practitioner, primary physician, I should say.
And when he was giving me a physical recently, doctor Ricardo,
we were talking about we were talking about healthy, healthy
leagues and and uh and he said, you.

Speaker 3 (57:42):
Have a quote. You have a quote from him. What's
that quote? Dave?

Speaker 1 (57:48):
Anyway? Anyway, the point, the point is is that Jayden
dyes is back, and uh yeah, and that's a huge
get for for airballs. So I think Jane Daniels returning
is a big deal. I would love to see air balls.
I'm pulling for air balls. I say air balls, picks

(58:09):
it up, gets the Jayden Daniels back. And I look
across the prime and competence and I think Agent called it.
There's some real there's some real rough patches across that
starting lineup.

Speaker 4 (58:19):
We got some stinkers. Look at these two lineups. If
I told you that there was a team that had
Jayden Daniels, Jackson Smiths and Jigba, Jamier Gibbs, Mark Andrews
and T Higgins on it, and then there's another team
Let's go and then there's another team that has Kyler Murray,
Jamar Chase Minus Burrow, Cuba Hubbard, Hollywood Brown, R J. Harvey,

(58:43):
Javonte Williams and Spencer Rattler. Which one would you tell
me he's at the top of the league. In which
one would you tell me he's at the bottom of
the league. It's like we're living in the upside down
right now. When I look at these two teams, and
I was going to bring this up when we had
Prime and Foss on, but like, I don't. I'm looking
at their lineup right now, and I don't know how
they're scoring as many points as they are. And that's,

(59:03):
you know, because again their number one player, Jamar Chase,
the one who that they've invested highly in, is is
not doing anything this year without Burrow Amn Ra is
blowing up and going crazy. But but then what I mean,
Javontae Williams has had a couple of good games, but
I don't think every game has been good. So I
don't know exactly what I'm what I'm looking at right here.
I think this is a get right game for Greg,

(59:25):
and I think that that that Prime and and Voss
are gonna have a little, you know, a little little
bit of snap reality here this week. I mean, I
can't see right now that it's a it's a dead heat.
But Greg has a zero in his lineup and he
just picked up Demark card de Markcurio, what's his name, Arizona,

(59:47):
So you're going it's gonna be a ten point favorite
for for Greg, and I just can't see it playing
out any other way than that.

Speaker 1 (59:54):
He'll play well. Rashad White.

Speaker 3 (59:56):
They're probably young right, how about being counter versus lambell leapers.
I'm looking at the real time scores coming in. There's
actually a San Francisco game going on right now as
we record this.

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
Yeah, they're in overtime.

Speaker 3 (01:00:10):
I'm looking at I'm looking at bean counters. Didn't start Stafford,
you know, would you have if you got mayin fields?
Probably not, I don't know. But I'm looking at at
how it's racking up now. You'll seems close.

Speaker 4 (01:00:26):
Yeah, it's it's gonna be. This is gonna be a high
scoring one. So this is gonna be one of those ones.
So when you look at the median, it's going to
push the median up and above and over the top,
and you have that opportunity there. So that is going
to be something to watch here. But when you when
you walk out a Thursday night with forty plus points, yeah,
I know you got two players, but that you know,

(01:00:46):
even from two players, that's a pretty solid start to it.
But again, you got you got some weird players, and
I feel I feel like this has been a weird
year in fantasy football period. I don't some of the
players that you're just expecting to be like the crazy
high scoring players are not. Some of the players that

(01:01:06):
you thought were you know, over the hill and not
going to do anything are but like Rock Bauers for
being counters nothing this season, Derrick Henry has had a
rough year so far. It's just an interesting kind of
mix here. But yeah, I mean it's gonna be fun.
And I think that this is gonna be a very
high scoring match. That this is probably I'm looking real

(01:01:28):
quick at the Sunday night games are gonna matter here.
There's a couple of Sunday night players, no Monday players,
so we'll know by Sunday. But at the end of
the day, I think we're going to go all the
way to Sunday Night to seeho's gonna win this one.

Speaker 1 (01:01:39):
Yeah, this is gonna be a really really fun one too.
So I do like what George Pickens and Dak Prescott
in that offense in Dallas. They don't have a defense,
but that offense in Dallas is picking up forty points
last week against the Packers, and so I think this
is gonna be a really fun one to watch. If
this isn't, you know, maybe your matchup of the week.
It's the close and of course these two guys go

(01:02:01):
way way back. These two guys have been playing each
other in this league for twenty two to twenty three years,
so tons of history here, and I know each guy
wants to win this one.

Speaker 3 (01:02:11):
I hate to move on because we're seeing the red
zone red blip here on the real time scoring. But
let's actually you mentioned matchup of the week. According to Yahoo,
the matchup of the week this week is Chicken Wing
versus Storman Norman. I would call this forgettable at best,
but I think everyone else is saying it's matchup of

(01:02:31):
the week. You know you're looking at these two players
middle of the hunt. What do you guys have for me?

Speaker 4 (01:02:39):
Well, I mean a couple of touchdowns from Kyrad and
Williams tonight and this Thursday night game is a good
start for Norman. Again, just a quick scan here, you've
got the quarterback advantage for Norman. You've got the running
back advantage. We'll give the running back advantage to the
toll here. But it's pretty pretty. This is one of

(01:03:00):
those ones where you look at guys like Saquon Barkley,
Jonathan Taylor, Garrett Wilson, Jalen Hurts, the high scoring players. Ultimately, though,
I really do believe that this one, which is pretty
heavy favorite for Norman right now, this is maybe where
it's going to come from. It's going to come from
the quarterbacks with Geno Smith and Daniel Jones. Who's Daniel
Jones has had a resurgent year on the field that

(01:03:21):
I don't know if his fantasy numbers have been quite
as good as the performance on the field. But Jalen
Hurts and Justin Herbert versus Geno Smith and Daniel Jones,
I think that's where this matchup is going to be
played out.

Speaker 1 (01:03:32):
Yeah, I see that AJ Brown right there, and A J.
Brown is what a fascinating year, and he's in the media.
He's sort of saying, hey, man, I want the ball,
but like I want, we're still winning games. Obviously you
got to keep throwing them out there. He's one of
those guys you got to keep throwing them out there.
But it leads to this larger question. I brought it
up earlier in the podcast, this idea around wide receivers
this year, and I just want to share a couple
of data points with you guys real quick on wide receivers.

(01:03:55):
The you know, by wide receivers by ADP around draft
time this year, so again ADP Wide Receivers. Wide receiver
one clearly was Jamar Chase. Well, he's got two games
under thirty receiving yards. Wide receiver two ADP again nationally,
how wherever he drafted Justin Jefferson was wide receiver two.

(01:04:17):
He's currently coming out a wide receiver thirteen. Wide receiver
three around draft day was Cede Lamb. Well, he's got
a high ankle and he's wide receiver four, ranked wide
receiver forty. Wide receiver four was Aman Rossaint Brown. He
is actually living up to it and he's a top
two points ghetto right now. But wide receiver five Milik
Neighbors acl tair out for the year. Wide receiver six

(01:04:37):
Puka Nakool, Wide receiver one. Okay, so he has overachieved.
He's over you know, he's he's delivered for you. But
then you get back to wide receiver seven Nico Collins.
He's ranked twentieth. Wide receiver. Eight Brian Thomas Junior. He's
wide receiver forty two. Wide receiver nine Drake London is
wide receiver nineteen. Wide receiver ten. A. J. Brown is

(01:04:58):
wide receiver forty six on fourteen catches and how about
this on wide receiver eleven, Lad McConkey wide receiver fifty,
and then of course you got Tyreek Hill need dissocation,
Terry McLaurin out with a quad, Mike Evans out with
a Hammy, Devontae Adams, you know he's had some decent games.
My point is is that wide receivers this year have
been so strange. Maybe top of the list is A J. Brown,

(01:05:20):
So if that hurts Brown connection finally comes around. Norman's
got a good team, but he's hanging in there with
that five and three record. I think it's gonna be
another good one. I like, Yeaho's saying, this is a
matchup with a week Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Did you get that analysis from toll okay near Hey, guys,
thank you so much. We'll keep it running. We'll go
over to Rowdy's versus past the football looking at them.
They got no one playing tonight. Love the projected points
off by what a tenth of a point? Maybe presently,

(01:05:51):
you know, fifty to fifty. It's a coin flip three
and five versus five and three. They're already in the center,
so they're already achieving Dave's political you know, Nirvana, but
what's going to happen with them, you know from here? Uh,
you know, maybe I'll pass it over to aj to
to kick us off, because I think we know where
Dave's going to go with us.

Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
Well, I mean, yeah, Dave's breakdown on the wide receivers.
This is kind of the opposite side of it. Quinton
Johnston and Jay Flowers. I don't know exactly where they
are in those rankings, but they've got to be probably
top five for both of those who for sure top ten,
not necessarily what you thought when we went into the draft.
I don't know what where they were drafted, but those

(01:06:31):
guys are probably twenty dollars you know, auction players when
there's big money going for guys like AJ Brown, big
money going for Jamar Chase. So yeah, I mean this
is this is the other side of that. This is
we we haven't even mentioned it. This is the first
week of buys, and the buys do factor in on
a bunch of the matchups. Here past the football has one, two, three, four, Well,

(01:06:53):
I guess some injuries that are factored in there. So
he's got a couple that got one buy and then
a bunch of injuries. But again We're at at that
point of the season where the injuries and the buys
are are adding up and and it's it's counting, so
it's it's going to be you know, I'm looking real
quick across this lineup here. I don't even know. I
don't I don't have a good feel for this one.

(01:07:14):
Maybe that's the way to put it, Dave. I know
that you're gonna lean your direction, but tell me a
little bit about your your lineup. Maybe Bucky Irving Quentin
Johnson kind of carrying the way for you. Is that
what you thought when you were seen together.

Speaker 1 (01:07:25):
And before I do I mean, just hats off to
Scott and pass the football for having the wide receiver
depth to handle his top two wide receivers go down
Terry McLaurin, Mike Evans extended time out, but he still
has a decent core of wide receivers with Pittman, Sutton
and Flowers like that's that's a pretty nice depth piece
there that you can still slot in. Some guys are

(01:07:45):
going to get your point, So so hats up to him.
Whereas if you go look over my lineup, you know
I had to drop mylak neighbors. This this week because
he is out for the year. He was my top
wide receiver, so then I'm down to Drake London as
sort of my new number one. But he's out this
week because of a bye, So now I have to
go to some real week receivers where I really have

(01:08:06):
to pick up. And I'm still not even sure what
I'm gonna do I receiver this week. But I thankfully
Quentin Johnston was an AD early in September and he's
had a great, great year so far, so he'll be
sort of my anchor this year. I picked him up.
I pick up he went undrafted. He's having a great
year's he's scoring every week. So we'll see what I

(01:08:27):
end up doing with wide receivers. But I I didn't
have the wide receiver depth quite like like like Scott did.
My running backs and quarterbacks have kept me this have
kept me in it. So it's the Dobbins, it's the
Bucky Irving. Bucky Irving is in a walking boot right now,
so who knows if Bucky Irving even plays. I don't
think I win this week at all. My point is
I don't think I win this week. I think Bucky's
gonna have to sit and I'm gonna have to go
to the bench for another running back. Chase Brown, my

(01:08:48):
big running back addition this year, has not lived up.
That whole Bengals offense is off and it's broken. I
don't think I win this week, but for health of
the league, hey, that's great.

Speaker 3 (01:09:05):
I think we'll round out then just get into high
level thoughts. We've got hooligans versus truffle. I'm loving the projection.
I put a lot of stock in faith in the projection.
I do think that there's probably, you know, presently, maybe
a couple of moves that you know, either one of
us could potentially make. You know, Dave will maybe put

(01:09:25):
it over to you if I can first, you know,
can AJ dig out of this or is he? I
mean is he last place? Does he? Does he get
out of this? Can he beat Median? Don't worry about
beating me. That's not gonna happen. Beating Median.

Speaker 1 (01:09:44):
Well, he just spent ninety four dollars or something on
two players that are now on his bench. So you
tell me about a guy.

Speaker 3 (01:09:52):
That's where I like to put.

Speaker 1 (01:09:56):
When you buy, like when when whenever I buy a
new shirt, I wear it day, right, I wear it.

Speaker 3 (01:10:01):
I put it in the closet for weeks.

Speaker 1 (01:10:03):
You do, right, Yeah, some people do that, right. Some
people do that. Some people buy a new to You know,
you buy a new Lego set as a kid, and
you go, I can't wait to I can't wait to
play with this next year.

Speaker 4 (01:10:13):
Right, Or or you can buy a new Lego set
and you keep it in the box as an investment
for the future. I mean that these opportunities are going
to gain value, whether it's trade market value, whether it's
starting roster value. But yes, you're accurate set that. I

(01:10:34):
have a full bague.

Speaker 1 (01:10:35):
You are the guy who buys gold from Roslin Capital.
Well well done. I am Devane over here, William William DeVoe. Yes,
devein Devo whatever. This is a fun matchup, Dan, I
would love to see you, you know, stick it to
AJ because here's the thing. And I said a draft day,
it's hashtag b DJ this year, I mean, it's hashtag BDJ.

(01:10:57):
He's winning every other year again, he's getting back on
this run again, he sup the trophy again. Yeah, and
it's hashtag it's it's hashtag b DJ. And I think
we all got to rally around that. And Dan we
got to keep him down. I love as I love
him dearly.

Speaker 3 (01:11:09):
I'm trying.

Speaker 1 (01:11:10):
We we gotta do this collective. This is a collective effort.

Speaker 3 (01:11:14):
Every day I go in and I press I click
on assistant GM next four weeks just to make sure
that I got the best of the best starting in
my in my in my roster.

Speaker 4 (01:11:28):
And every day I'm shuffling Dan.

Speaker 1 (01:11:31):
Dan, your roster is actually it's it's solid. It's a
solid piece. I like what you've done. You know, Breeze Hall.
Hats off to Breeze Hall. Everybody doubted him and he's
actually had a decent little year now. And now whoever
that RB two in New York is out now for
the year, it's gonna be a Braylen Allen I believe
his name is. Yes, So Breeze Hall is the guy.

(01:11:52):
And you know, you think about another injury boosting another guy,
Jaylen Waddle right now becomes the number one with Tyreek
Hill out for the year, and so you're you're you're
benefiting from some some big injuries across fantasy football, and
those guys will be you know, put in a good positions.

Speaker 4 (01:12:09):
Yeah, those injuries that you have mentioned have been what
is partially is biting me a little bit with Brock
Perdy and George Kittle. Kittle being one of my big
big opinions on the season so far, and he got
injured in that first quarter of the first game in
the first week of the season, so it's been interesting.
But yeah, I don't feel great about this one.

Speaker 1 (01:12:29):
Well, and you also do beyond Woody on your bench,
you also have a penox on your bench, which there's
a joke in there somewhere, but we'll we'll leave that alone.

Speaker 4 (01:12:37):
Yes, yes, And I don't get it, guys, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
I mean this is This has been an excellent first
pancake of a little segment I like to call non
traditional poppics.

Speaker 1 (01:12:55):
Non traditional pod picks. Guys. This is great to be back.

Speaker 4 (01:12:58):
Guy.

Speaker 1 (01:12:58):
I love talking to you. I love talk talking about
this lead that we love so much. We have more
segments in future weeks. We'll get we'll get back to
Big ten memory Lane. We will, we'll we'll do commit
we'll dive into the commissioner mail bag, we'll we'll find
out what's on Greg's chest, We'll do all the bits.
And I can't be more excited to get it going.
And I think This will spur on more thread activity,

(01:13:20):
more trade activity. Check your inboxes because trades are coming.
On the gathering storm comes a tall, handsome man, a
dusty black, cold with a red, red hand.
