Speaker 2 (00:28):
Now live from.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
The Point Pattio Baring Bistro, here's your host, the Voice
of the Bulldogs, Paul Leffler.
Speaker 3 (00:38):
Welcod evening.
Speaker 4 (00:40):
It's nice and dry over here on the patio of
the Point Patio Bar and Bistro. I see people in
front of me, people behind me. I think there's a
song that kind of goes like that. But you're gonna
hear a whole lot of the Bulldog fight song and
hopefully another rendition of Bulldog spirit after another went on
Saturday at Valley Children's Stadium Senior Night, Saturday Night seven
thirty against Utah eight. If you were there last week
(01:02):
and stayed for the entire game, you deserve a prize,
and you might win a prize here at the Point
Pattio Bar and Bistro Tonight our final regular season edition
of the Bulldog Football Hour, where he have three special guests,
and the first one will be introduced right now by
the voice of Valley Children's Stadium, mister Mattley Amer. Hold on,
we're not hearing you yet. We're sometimes that happens at
(01:24):
the stadium. Oh two, you had a lot of wet
ears listening to you the other night. I know you ready,
I am, I'm ready.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Let's hear how it would sound at Valley Children's Stadium
if you were introducing this guy.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
Well, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, this man does
not care what UNLB, Sandego, State, New Mexico, or boys
you do. He is worried about one thing, and one
thing only when he takes his guys down that ramp
Saturday night at Valley Children's Stadium. Go one and oh,
ladies and gentlemen, head coach of your bulldogs, matt ends,
(01:55):
thank you, thank you.
Speaker 4 (01:56):
That's the way it's supposed to sound. We'll have a
couple of play for him to introduce later. Did he
get that right, Coach? Was he reading your mail there?
Speaker 2 (02:03):
I think so. He did a good job. That's a
good job. That was a thorough We.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
Have some special prizes tonight. This is an.
Speaker 4 (02:10):
Autographed football right here. It says go Dogs, Matt NT's
right there. We're gonna give that away tonight. I believe
we have a cowboy hat like the fans are gonna
get at the game. For Belt's Boots and Buckles Night,
you can wear a belt. If you're gonna wear a buckle,
you should probably wear a belt. So why don't I
call it Belt's Boots and Buckles Night, Agnight Senior Night.
Someone's gonna take one of those home early tonight. We
(02:32):
also have a pair of red seats for Saturday Nights
Senior Night against Utah State, and the jerseys the Bulldogs
are gonna wear are something they've never worn before. Have
you seen one of those up close and personal yet.
Speaker 6 (02:43):
Coach No, I've just pictures, so probably I would imagine
maybe tomorrow we'll get a chance to see one.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
It's a really cool idea though, the ag Night theme
where each number zero through nine has a different crop
that is interlate or interwoven with those designs. The green
numbers on the white jerseys, and this is the helmet
the dog is going to wear it's right here in
front of us at the point patti Obarn Bistro. So
if you don't want to wait till Saturday night to
see the helmet, come on out here. It's got the
(03:13):
five five nine or five V nine on the front
of it. It's got the giant green V on both
sides of the helmet, and then on the back panel
the four pod dog and the American flag coach. I
know people around here have heard it a million times
what the V stands for, yep, But this is the
first time that the Bulldogs have Warren a helmet where
that green V is the main feature of the helmet.
(03:35):
How significant is that in your mind? How big a
deal is this to represent the valley in this fashion
Saturday night?
Speaker 6 (03:42):
Well, I think, you know, really important. I've known the
importance of it, you know, probably way before that I
arrived here at Fresnow. I remember seeing the green V again,
you know, growing up in the Midwest, you remember when
Hay and Fry did the ANF on the University of Eye.
I was helmets and when Pat Hill got here, you know,
(04:03):
implementing this green V. And today we talked a little bit.
We we recognized our seniors in our team meeting, but
also talked about the valley and just gave some quick
facts to our guys that you know, like from Reading
California to Bakersfield, and four hundred and eighty some miles
you know, north and south, sixty miles wide, same size
(04:23):
as the state of Tennessee. Two hundred and fifty different crops,
fifty billion dollars in agricultural revenue come from this area.
Just to give our guys a little bit of an
you know, an impact. And then there's just the number
of of jobs, you know, the so many people's way
(04:43):
of life is connected to that that you know, this
is just something really small that Bulldog Football can do
to recognize those people that And I think and I'd
like to think that our our program and the people
that work in the dag industry, the farmers, the answers
out there, that we have some similar traits. We all
appreciate hard work, we're processed driven, and you know, sweat
(05:08):
equity still means something to us. And so I think
we just tried to correlate that, Hey, there's a lot
of similarities between the people in the egg industry and
Bulldog Football.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Right now, and I think you know most of us
understand now. And Steve here tonight. I don't know Steve
Malanka is here, but he was part of a campaign.
There's Steve right back there a few years ago that
they started. It was called my job Depends on AGG
and then it turned into my dogs depend on AG
and it was amazing how many people started to realize,
maybe for the first time, that without the agricultural industry,
(05:38):
their job that they thought was unrelated, really wouldn't have exist.
Speaker 6 (05:42):
I can imagine being a farm kid that grew up
in an agricultural rich area.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
I've seen that firsthand.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
So we're all connected, and we certainly all eat the
produce of the San Joaquin Valley, the whole country, the
whole world do and we're celebrating all of that on
AG night, Senior Night, White out night, white jerseys for
the dogs, and if you don't have any white gear yet,
the shirt I'm wearing is one of the new white shirts,
and the Bulldog Locker and Kennel Marketplace have a whole
lot of those. Even this signed football has a white
(06:12):
panel here that coach autographed that someone's going to take
home tonight. But only if you join us at the
point patio bar and bistro. If you can't make it
and you have a question, use a hashtag ask fs
on the example, pass it on to coach. So you've
been able to harvest seven victories already this year, your
Bowl eligible. But two more wins and there's a very
good chance you're going to play in a Mountain West
(06:34):
championship game. How big a challenge, though, is this game
Saturday night against a quarterback who's put up the kind
of numbers none of the quarterbacks on your schedule so far. Half.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yeah, you're exactly right.
Speaker 6 (06:45):
You know what they do offensively, runs through him, tremendous athlete,
tough kid. As many carries and and hits as he's
taken all year to be able to pop back up
and continue to be effective is really impressive. You know
their average and you know, thirty plus points a game,
four hundred and some yards a game, two hundred and fifty.
(07:05):
I think they're leading the league maybe in rushing, you know,
but again a lot of plus one run game rpo.
You got to really layer out some things. You got
to be disciplined, gott to have great eye I discipline
because they're going to be some trade shifted motion during
the week, and so we have to do a really
good job of getting them off schedule, winning the line
(07:26):
of scrimmage, you know, and in complementary, football is going
to be critical. I challenged our offense early in the
week and said, you guys are going to have a
huge impact on how successful we are stopping this kid.
Now kind of looked at me like what do you
what do you mean? Well, if he doesn't have the ball,
he can't throw it or run with it. And we
have to stay on the field, you know, offensively. And
so our kids are they're they're locked in. They know
(07:47):
that they know that this is a good football team.
Two of their losses come to, you know, teams that
are potentially CFP teams, you know, in Vanderbilt, in Texas,
A and M, two of the best teams in the country.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
So we have our work cutout for us.
Speaker 6 (08:00):
We need Red Wave to show up because I know
there's a there's a lot of energy, a lot of
juice that we can get from our crowd on Saturday night.
Speaker 4 (08:07):
Yeah, you need your offense just to stay and drives,
not just to keep their offense off the field, but
to keep your defense fresh too exactly.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
They say, yeah, it's all it all works together.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
Yeah, and that defense back to back games has held
opponents under two hundred yards. That doesn't happen very often
in college football for anybody.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
No, it doesn't in this Uh you know again, I'm
gonna I'm gonna come across and sound very much like
a defensive guy, which I was for a number of years.
The rules that we've we've allowed to permeate into our
game are points, so we can.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
Drive points up. And it is it's tough.
Speaker 6 (08:42):
I mean, you know, I know, if you can hold
people under seventeen points a game, you have a chance
to win like eighty five.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
Percent of the games that you play in.
Speaker 6 (08:50):
And for us to you know, have given up what
is it now, Yeah, not a whole lot.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
Here be the last two game? Yeah, come home.
Speaker 6 (09:00):
And so Coach benedetto his staff, our players just the
buy in that they have, the excitement that they come
to practice with. You know, you and I both know
that that that there's no such thing as perfection, but
when you strive for excellence becomes kind of the byproduct.
And I think that we have a bunch of guys
on that side of the ball and a bunch of
guys on in.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
Our in our in our program that are kind of
locked into that, and.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
A bunch of them will be playing in Valley Children's
Stadium potentially for the last time. There's a there's an
outside possibility the Bulldogs could host a Mountain West championship
game and we would all love that, wouldn't we. But
if that doesn't happen, Saturday night, seven thirty against Utah
State will be the last game of Valley Children's Stadium
for some really special Bulldogs seniors.
Speaker 3 (09:43):
A couple of them are going to join us here tonight.
Speaker 4 (09:45):
Jake Tarwater and cam beacham Paris senior tight ends will
join us here shortly. I hope they have plenty of
stake on the menu here at the point Pattiobar and Bistro,
I think they do. Uh, Coach, I'm assuming you're going
to have the same thing again.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Yep, yep, Patimo, yep.
Speaker 6 (09:58):
I don't get stray much away fro really anything in life.
If I find something I like, I say right with it.
Speaker 4 (10:05):
Well, you like winning, and we're thankful for that. The
Bulldogs are seven and three, looking for win number eight
on Saturday night.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
At seven thirty. If you don't have your.
Speaker 4 (10:11):
Tickets yet, go Bulldogs dot com or make a bee
line for the point.

Speaker 4 (10:17):
I almost didn't make it because it's wed and wild
out there and somebody almost hit me. But I'm glad
I made it. I'm glad you're gonna make it. And
we'll be here till six thirty. Cam Beachaman and Jake
Tarwater to join us later. We continue with coach ants
right after this the Bulldog Football Hour on the Bulldog
Sports Network from their field.
Speaker 7 (10:32):

Go Dogs.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
They lined Arsenal, a running back out wide as a
receiver to the left, Donaldson in the backfield. Arsenal motions through.
They faked the fly sweep, handed to Donaldson and he's
got wide open field coaching into the end zone from
thirteen yards out. Trickery. The Cowboys were fooled and Donaldson
untouched for six. Coach matd D's with us here the
(13:58):
Bulldog Football Hour at the point Addiobar and Bistro. A
little later on Jake Tarwater and Caam Beacham, a couple
of senior tight ends are going to join us.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
We'd love to have you join us. You might win an.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Autographed football or one of the hats that are going
to be given away Saturday night on Boots and Buckles Night,
or tickets to Senior Night and the home finale seven
thirty Saturday night against Utah State. You can get your
tickets right now at Go Bulldogs dot Com. Just heard
that play coach where the defense was completely fooled. I
don't think half the defense knew Bryce and Donaldson had
(14:28):
the ball till he was in the end zone. What
does that feel like on the sideline when a play
works as well as that one did.
Speaker 6 (14:34):
I think just a side of relief probably that some
of the hard work is is, you know, coming to
fruition a little bit. But there was a couple of
times that night that that touchdown that that we just heard,
Jonathan Arsenal's touchdown later in the game was diagrammed really well.
So we had Speedy out at a receiver position, jetting
him through and you want, we watched it as a
(14:55):
team on Monday. One guy moved, four of their guys
rotated and then all of a sudden, Jonathan made one
guy miss and he was gone. And you know, but again,
it's complimentary football. It's good football, taking advantage of the
different weapons that we have and and forcing people to
have great eye discipline and if you don't, you're gonna
give up explosive plays.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
Yeah, and as coach Hill said on the broadcast a
few times, the game plan threw a lot more eye
candy in there last week against Wyoming with those shifts
in motions, and the substitution. I mean, you had five
different running backs play significant roles in that ball game.
They're all a little different, and I thought they were
used to their strengths so well. And I'm imagining we're
only going to see that expand from here on out.
Speaker 6 (15:36):
Well, I think so, without diving too much into a
game plan here for this coming week.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
But that's a talented room. Coach. Pryor does a.
Speaker 6 (15:43):
Really good job of one getting those young men prepared
every week from a teaching standpoint, a schematic standpoint, but
all of them provide a different skill set, a skill
set that can be effective. And we saw it last
week with a big time touchdown on out of Jonathan Speedy,
Bryce and Gil having a mean touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
And then and then you know, Brando does a little
bit of everything.
Speaker 6 (16:07):
He's kind of become a running back slash fullback and
and and again has embraced it, and I'd.
Speaker 2 (16:13):
Love to see it well.
Speaker 4 (16:14):
And it sure seemed like the amount of time, the
amount of plays, the percentage of plays that you lined
up with two backs really put the defense into quandary.
So I was going to ask you that tell everybody
what position you played, what I played, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:28):
I played a little bit of the end and then
linebacker as well.
Speaker 4 (16:31):
So if you are lining up at linebacker when you
see Brandon Ramirez and Speedy Luke in the backfield, walk
us through what your thought process is before a play,
because both of those guys kind of scary you in
different ways, don't they They do they do well.
Speaker 6 (16:45):
You're probably trying to figure out, you know, what was
the tendency of these two guys on the field at
the same time. You know, and is Brando is he
fitting into that fullback role right now?
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Or is he still a tailback? And that's where I think.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
You know, when you have played like that that have great,
wide variety of skill sets, it can water down defenses
at time because of a little bit of just you know,
doubt in their minds, like, Hey, what are we actually
seeing here? Is this? Is it? Is it twenty one personnel?
Is it twelve personnel?
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Is it? You know?
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Is it twenty one speed? What are we labeling these
players as?
Speaker 2 (17:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (17:21):
And the more variety, the harder it is to recognize
what's really going on. And I'm a big believer and
you know a lot of coaches have helped me come
to this conclusion that you should never be afraid of
what's going to happen. You should be confident about doing
the job and think of it positively. This is what
I'm gonna do versus I better not do this. But
I can just imagine a linebacker saying, I better not
(17:41):
get faked out of my shoes by Speedy, but I
also better not get run over by Bratton.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
Here is you got, Yeah, you get a little bit
of Yng and yang. When do you have those two
guys in the game. So you're definitely right.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
Not to mention Bryson and Elijah and Jonathan who had
the best at least longest touchdown run of the game
against Wyoming. It's Utah State Saturday night at seven. We're
here at the Point Patti Obar and Bistro till six
thirty tonight. We're giving away tickets. We're giving away an
autographed football and one of the AG Night green V
on the front of the cowboy hat hats for you
that'll be given out to fans of Valley Children Stadium.
(18:13):
Saturday night. We talked about the AG Night jerseys and
the V on the helmet. We've talked multiple times, especially
last week, when your folks were here since they completed
their corn harvest back in Iowa. About your ag roots.
But have you seen the guy who got to be
a guest milker at the Fresno State Dairy.
Speaker 2 (18:31):
Yeah, you know, I did. I saw something on social
media quickly.
Speaker 6 (18:35):
I saw that Garrett Classy was out there, cowboy hat
and all cowboy hat and all. You know, he's a Wiscon,
he's a he's a Wisconsin native, so he should be
good around a milk parlor.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
So that was it was good to see. Well, and
he's here tonight.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
And and hold up the hands, Garrett, you didn't actually
milk the cowboy hand, right, you just started it.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
Okay, they won't let you do that anymore.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
But it's a great video if you haven't seen it
on social media. A lot of people don't realize how
the Fresno State Dairy works, that they have student employees
and student volunteers, and when you eat that Fresno State
ice cream, as they pointed out in the video, that's
where it comes from. So even your jerseys that you're
wearing Saturday night are helping educate a lot of folks
in the valley and beyond. But I know that ice cream.
(19:20):
By the way, what is your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Speaker 3 (19:22):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (19:24):
I don't vanilla, probably, Yeah, I'm pretty simple. Now I
gotta have something on it though.
Speaker 3 (19:29):
It needs a topping.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Yeah, okay, well they've got lots of toppings at the
Gibson Farm Market too. I was going to say that
ice cream is going to taste a lot sweeter if
you get a win on Saturday night, or when you
get a win on Saturday night. We talked about Bryson Barnes,
the Utah State quarterback, and how dynamic he is. Eighteen touchdowns,
three interceptions, He's run for eight scores. They use them
intentionally in the run game. That offense has put up
(19:52):
plenty of points. But you and I haven't talked too
much about Utah State defensively.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (19:57):
You mentioned the schedule they played, going up against a
couple of SEE teams.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Already this year. What do you see from the Aggies
on the defensive side of the ball.
Speaker 6 (20:04):
Uh. With coach Mendenhall's background, they're you know, based out
of a three three five, you know, rocky long defense.
You know, coach mendon Halls had a tremendous success being
you know, being head football coach, defensive coach, and uh,
those kids play hard. There's a lot of a lot
of dedicated movement and we're gonna have to be ready
(20:27):
to pick some things up. They do some unique things
in the coverage. They play three safeties in the field.
So it's it's gonna be it's different than what we've
seen the last couple of three weeks.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
You know, we've seen a lot.
Speaker 6 (20:37):
Of four down front quarters, you know, too high structure.
This is going to be a much different game plan,
much different approach. We're gonna to do a really good
job on Saturday adjusting as the game unfolds.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
And that's what I wanted to talk to you about,
because you know, ultimately a scheme is only as good
as the personnel that are implementing a scheme. But I've
seen I mean, I remember Derek Carr distinctly his senior
year going up against the three three five Rocky Lawn
coach in San Diego State, and he probably had the
most frustrating half of his whole career just trying to
figure out what that defense was doing. How big a
burden does it put on your quarterback and your center
(21:11):
in reading things pre snapped it might be about to happen.
Speaker 2 (21:14):
Well, I think it.
Speaker 6 (21:16):
Just a communication piece, that extra safety where you ide
in our protection, where we idea in the passt or
the run game two, because all of a sudden, now
you have an extra piece that's kind of sitting right
there directly in the middle of the field that they
can invert, they can use in the run fit, they
can use and coverage. And then you know, because they're
a three three five team, they can bring overload pressure
(21:39):
from about anywhere. They can internal pressure, you know, from
the boundary from the field, and so you have to
be aware of all those situations and all those you know,
added pressures or simulated pressures.
Speaker 4 (21:50):
And Derek, if you're listening, I need to finish the story. Yes,
the Bulldogs did. Derek kind of willed them to victory
that night. They blocked a kick, forced overtime and beat
the Aztec So it wasn't that Rocky long dominated Derek Carr,
I want to make the record clear there we're up
against another break. But we'll talk to Coachens about some
of his Bulldogs seniors when we come back. Senior Night
Saturday night, seven thirty at Valley Children's Stadium. Come join
(22:12):
us at the Point if you want to win a prize,
and if you've got a question, send it our way

Go Dogs, that Speedy Luke is back in the ball game.
He takes the handoff, waits for blocks, now bounces to
the outside right, finds a hole, runs for a first
down and more. Boy, could he go out past the
forty all the way to the forty three? Jones Thomas
on the tackle, but pat the patients of Speedy Luke
to take his time to see what was there?
Speaker 11 (25:49):
Well, there was nothing there and he's the only guy
on that football field that can do that.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Speedy Luke pretty special player.
Speaker 4 (25:57):
Bulldogs a special team, still in the hunt for US
spot in the Mountain West Championship Game. The Dogs are
seven and three and they're playing at home one more
time in the regular season Saturday night, seven thirty against
the Utah State Aggies.
Speaker 3 (26:10):
Our pregame coverage, we'll.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
Start at five thirty on Saturday night, but we're here
at the point. Patti Obar and Bistro tonight till six thirty.
So Cam Beacham and Jake Tarwater, a pair of senior
tight ends, walk in. We've got a few more minutes
with Coach matt Ends and Coach let's talk about this
senior class, because you haven't known these guys all that long,
but it sure seems like they've become pretty near and
(26:31):
dear to your heart.
Speaker 20 (26:32):
They have.
Speaker 6 (26:32):
That's a unique group and we're kind of all thrown
together at the same time, and we've we've made a
good a good situation even better. And you know, just
by the relationships the amount of time we spend together.
That's one of the things with us. Any sport, Coclleisian sport,
you're going to be around your players a lot, and
(26:54):
probably more so here this first year, just because you know,
just a desire to get to know who these guys
were and what made them tick and you know, what
kind of mash their hot button a little bit. So
it's been it's been really good. It's been fun to
get to know them. We got some characters in that
group and they they've done a really good job of
staying steadfast in our approach and understanding that the process
(27:15):
is a little bit different than it was in the past.
But being you know, being willing to be uncomfortable at times,
and that's when the growth happens.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
Boy, that's a word, it's a wisdom for all of
us right there. Being willing to be uncomfortable is when
the growth occurs for all of us. One thing I've
seen you do in practice this week is give some
of the seniors a chance to address their teammates yep,
at the end of practice. And I'm sure you've heard
a few things too that because you don't know what
they're going to say, no, and then they step up.
(27:46):
There has there been anything that maybe surprised you a
little bit or made you think a little that, you know,
the perspective from a twenty two to twenty three year
old versus their head coach.
Speaker 6 (27:56):
No, it's been tremendous. We've had five or six guys
that have got up and spoke in front of our
football team. And this is kind of something new, nothing
that had ever been done before. I've done it in
previous spots and hopefully it'll it'll become tradition and continue
to grow and and hopefully down the road all of
our seniors will take advantage of it. But the thing
that that the common theme of everyone who's talked is
(28:20):
they've wanted to give great intel to the younger kids.
Don't don't time waste for nobody don't wish it away.
Make sure you make every moment count. There are no
bad days, just bad moments. You know, keep working and
just stay stay committed to what you're doing. And so
(28:40):
it's it's good to hear it's it's it's it's extremely
valuable to me and just to know that we have
an environment where where our seniors feel that way about
a program and they want to make sure that they're
leaving it in a good place.
Speaker 4 (28:54):
And I'm sure you and I will have a chance
to talk some more about the seniors on Saturday in
our pregame chat. You've got a couple of them here
tonight though too tight ends. It's been a real strong
position group for you this year, Jake Tarwater and Cam Beacham.
Cam's a guy who was in the portal and he said,
after he talked to you, he decided, Hey, this is
the only place I want to be. What is that
dynamic duo meant to your team this year?
Speaker 6 (29:17):
Well, without our tight end room and especially these two
young men, I don't think we'd be who we are.
You know, you've heard meet joke at times that sometimes
our tight ends or our o linement with wings, but
that's a good thing.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
That's a compliment.
Speaker 6 (29:31):
These guys create leverage, usually at the point of attack.
Have been utilized in the past game the throw game
cam had a huge touchdown, kind of a huge momentum touchdown.
Speaker 2 (29:43):
For us at Hawaii.
Speaker 6 (29:45):
You know, Jake is one of you know, when I
think of toughness wins, Jake Tarwater you know, should have
it tattooed on his forearm because that's just who he is.
But great guys, and and that whole room is they
meet every day in an office adjacent to mine, and
I hear the connection they have not only with their
(30:07):
position coach, but with each other. And when you hear
things like that, you know we're going in the right direction.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
I know you're someone who follows a lot of next
level stats that maybe would make some of our brains
smelt or our head spin a little bit. But is
there a stat for the longest in terms of yardage
that someone has kept a block engaged, Because I think
Jake Tarwater might be close to the top of that list.
Speaker 2 (30:32):
I don't know, that's one stat.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
I don't know, But if he's the winner, then I'm
super excited for him.
Speaker 4 (30:39):
That it might be like fifteen or twenty yards.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
It might be, it might be.
Speaker 6 (30:43):
I mean, these guys do a great job, and you
know Cam coming back, you know, one understanding the vision,
believing in what we were going to do, understanding that
we wanted to be a twelve thirteen type of team,
but we were going to ask him to do some
things that maybe weren't necessarily his cup of tea. You know,
a year ago he'd been flexed out, done some things
(31:04):
not necessarily an inline tight end, and all of a sudden,
here he is at the point of attack. You know,
we're running gap scheme, we're running duo and Cam Beacham's
the guy, and you know, just his willingness to buy
into what we're doing and to listen and be coachable
and come out every day with a purpose.
Speaker 4 (31:21):
And I know a lot of folks here at the
point know exactly what you meant when you said a
twelve thirteen type team. You're not talking about age. You're
talking about one running back, two tight ends, or one
running back three tight ends.
Speaker 3 (31:31):
That's twelve and thirteen.
Speaker 4 (31:33):
And there's like this excitement I think some fans feel
when they see you break the huddle and they see
all those big guys out there, they know something's about
to get smacked.
Speaker 6 (31:43):
I think this is my I'm getting on my soapbox
real quick. But I think the art of run fitting,
the art of being gap sound is a lost art
a little bit sometimes in college football. And so I
think we have some coaches within our staff, myself included,
that believe in making people be details, making people not
letting people off the hook, make them understand what it
(32:03):
takes to play good football.
Speaker 4 (32:05):
And have you ever seen any of Jake Tarwaters high
school quarterback film?
Speaker 2 (32:09):
You know what?
Speaker 6 (32:10):
I think John Baxter showed that to me when I
first got here. Of course, uh, John Baxter has a
as a probably you know, some handwritten notes on every
single person, So there's probably some incriminating evidence somewhere on
Jake Tarwater.
Speaker 4 (32:27):
Who knows, Maybe we'll see him throw the ball again
someday in a Bulldog uniformer elsewhere. Coach, hope you enjoy
the rest of the evening with Brenda as we bring
Jake and Cam up in a moment. But let's get
a little sneak peek of what you and I will
talk about Saturday as you scout Utah State. The significance
of this game is obvious. But what's number one on
(32:47):
your list? What's the biggest priority You think that if
your team executes that, you're gonna have a really good
chance to get that.
Speaker 6 (32:53):
W We're gonna we gotta win the line of scrimmage period,
and you know, we've I've challenged both the tight ends,
the on line, the defensive line. We have to win
the line of scrimmage because that will enable us then
to continue to create more and more edges as the
game goes on, and some of those are you know,
time of possession, you know, just being We got to
be really good at at the simple things, blocking, tackling, catching,
(33:15):
breaking tackles.
Speaker 2 (33:17):
You know, at the end of the day, the game
can be pretty simple.
Speaker 6 (33:20):
Coaches, we try to you know, create you know, too
complicated a game. We have to be great at simple
stuff during of course of the game. We gotta, you know, defensively,
we've got to tackle. We gotta get people on the ground. Offensively,
we got to break tackles. We gotta find ways to
make their safeties, have to tackle our backs in space.
We got to be effective in the past game. Don't
have to take shots, but just make them. Have to
(33:40):
defend the entire width of the field. Sounds like a
plan to me.
Speaker 3 (33:44):
What do you think?
Speaker 4 (33:44):
Redwave? All right, be there Saturday night to see if
the Bulldogs and pull it off and get win number eight.
We'll be right back with Cam Beacham and Jake Tarwater
Bulldogs Senior tight ends. If you're not here yet, come
find us at the Point Patio Bar and Bistro, northwest

tight end. Jake Tarwater and the Dogs convert on fourth
and six.
Speaker 3 (37:29):
We got yeah.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
Jake Tarwater had a big play in that game, fourth
and six, catching the pass, making sure he blew a
few guys up to get a couple extra yards. We're
back here at the Point Patio Bar and Bistro here
till six thirty. If you come join us, you might
win tickets or an autograph football or a cowboy hat,
which right now is on top of this white helmet

v's on the sides and the five V nine on
the front for our area code here in the Central Valley.
We've got some actual guests and I'm gonna have Matt
Leeber introduce him.
Speaker 5 (38:03):
Now, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, our first guest
is a tight end, whether he's blocking down field, looking
to move the chains, or hopefully looking to find the
end zone on Saturday at Valley Children's Number eighty seven.
Speaker 2 (38:16):
Jake tar Water, Jake.
Speaker 4 (38:22):
You want to take him on the road with you?
You want to take worm on the road with you
to get introduced everywhere you go like that?
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Oh, yeah, for sure, Yeah that'd be great.
Speaker 4 (38:31):
Hey, we were talking about it with coach Ets just
before the break. You played quarterback for the Vikings of
South Tahoe High. Correct, Yes, I did.
Speaker 20 (38:38):
Yeah, how is your arm? At the time, it was good.
I fractured my collar bone playing in Judaico ball, so
it's probably not quite as good anymore. But I can still.
I can still sling in a little bit.
Speaker 4 (38:49):
Say at your peak, how far do you think you
could throw it accurately?
Speaker 20 (38:53):
Like fifty five sixty hours?
Speaker 2 (38:55):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (38:55):
Huh, okay, what about now.
Speaker 20 (38:59):
Thirty five stops?
Speaker 4 (39:02):
So your buddy cam Beacham can throw it farther now.
I don't know, bro, I don't want to get hurt
trying to find out. We have another Bulldog player to
introduce mister Leaver and.
Speaker 5 (39:12):
Once again, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, his tied
end a running mate looking to also move the chains
and find the end zone number fifteen.
Speaker 4 (39:21):
Cam Beach got to give you a proper introduction when
you come to the point for the Bulldog Football Hour.
And by the way, I mentioned, this is our last
regular season program, but we just confirmed we're gonna be
able to do a special show here December third in
honor of National Signing Day, where we'll have coach ats
(39:43):
and some of the staff and some Bulldog recruits here
at the Point Patio Barn Bistro. As long as they've
signed their letter of intent that day, they're able to
talk about it.
Speaker 3 (39:51):
So put that on your calendar.
Speaker 4 (39:53):
National Signing Day, December third and six point thirty here
at the Point Patio Bar and Bistro. It'll be quite
a party. Cam Beacham, you've been here on the show before,
haven't you, sir? I thought, so get that mike a
little closer to your mouth. So did you order the
same thing tonight or did you shake it.
Speaker 24 (40:10):
Up When the last time I was on the show
it was at the airport Oh, you haven't done one
here at the Points.
Speaker 2 (40:16):
I've never been to the Point first time.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
So what did you see on that menu?
Speaker 24 (40:22):
To be honest, if you really know me, I'm a
really picky eater. So I just got a plane burger.
I just got like the most plain thing possible. I
wish I could find chicken tenders on there, but they
probably should add that on.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
The menu for people like me. I'm sure they could
do it. I mean, they could customize it. It could
be Cam's chicken tenders. Did you score a touchdown Saturday night?
We're gonna make that happen.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Got to.
Speaker 4 (40:46):
Oh, yeah, you might have a new nickname on the
team now, so our Cam. But you mentioned the time
you did the show before was at the airport. Thank
you again for doing that. That was for an honor
flight last year, and I saw what it meant to
the veterans when you and who was with you was
that Johnny Johnny Hudson, a former noseguard Johnny Hudson because
his dad served in Vietnam. Your dad was in the
(41:07):
Marines for twenty years. I think do you remember what
that was like to see all those guys coming home.
Speaker 24 (41:13):
Everybody was just They were like excited and happy. They
they just looked like they went on the whole voyage
and came back and we're just excited to see everything
they just they had went through in the past and
everything on the history that came with everything that happened.
It was just fired to see everybody come back and
congratulate everybody coming back. It was just nice to see
(41:35):
everybody come together and greet each other, and they were
fired up to see you guys there and your your
bulldog gear.
Speaker 4 (41:41):
Cam Beacham and Jake Tarwater are with us Bulldog Senior
tight Ends. So you guys got a new position coach
this year. Have you heard some good stories yet from
coach Paris?
Speaker 20 (41:52):
What's it like playing for him? Oh, it's great. Yeah,
we've heard. We've heard plenty of stories every day. Yeah,
every day story anyone. Yeah, pretty fire. No, he's a
great coach though. We've all learned a lot from him,
especially when it comes to run blocking, and he's been
he's helped us grow a lot in the tight end
room and he's done.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
A lot for all of us.
Speaker 24 (42:13):
He really cares for everybody in the room. He cares
for the development of every single person in the room.
He doesn't let anybody cycle any details. Like he's really
a real detO into person, and it's easy to have
to buy into a situation like going to Present State
when you have a coach like coach Farens.
Speaker 4 (42:33):
You know, Camo got a crazy question to ask you.
You know, you did have the big play at Hawaii
that coach Hance was just talking about. But what was
more satisfying for you that moment in Hawaii or when
you threw down a dunk at the Save Arts Center
wearing a hot dog costume in the hot dog race?
(42:54):
I mean, because how many guys have done that? Has
anyone else here done that? Thrown down a dunk at
the Save Mart Center in a hot dog costume?
Speaker 3 (43:00):
There's only one? What what moment was better for you?
Speaker 2 (43:04):
The Hawaii played for sure?
Speaker 24 (43:06):
The Hawaii played for sure because the dunk that was
after like a madro day, My body was sore, didn't
get the warm up.
Speaker 4 (43:15):
You know.
Speaker 24 (43:15):
I really was trying to get like Lebron type of dunk,
but it ended up being like a little rim grazer.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
It wasn't nothing too crazy, you know, So.
Speaker 24 (43:21):
I wish I had a more active preparation for the
dunk instead of you know, just going in there raw.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
And correct me if I'm wrong. But I believe you're
playing at a little lighter playing weight this year than
last year. Yes, sir, So maybe if you come back
in like February this year.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
I'll punch it for sure. All right, I had me,
I'll punch something for sure.
Speaker 4 (43:43):
I mean, I know it's all random who gets selected
to be the student competitors.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
But we did have a baseball player try the half
court shot.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
The other day.
Speaker 4 (43:49):
He didn't make it. He came close.
Speaker 2 (43:51):
I would make it. So you want to do that.
Speaker 24 (43:53):
One too, Give me like five shots of prim shot.
Speaker 3 (43:55):
You only get one, I'll make it one. All right,
Well we will have this record in case you do.
Speaker 4 (44:01):
Jake, if you weren't playing college football, what sport would
you be playing? Oh?
Speaker 2 (44:06):
Probably nothing, Honestly, I don't think. I don't think I'm Buildford.
Speaker 20 (44:11):
No sport. Maybe baseball, but.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
Oh no, I can't do ball.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
You've seen Jake on the basketball court, No, I haven't.
Speaker 20 (44:22):
He's a decent jumper.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
When we when we.
Speaker 24 (44:25):
Like practice, are act like we're shadow playing. He has
a decent jumper. But I don't think you do anything
else to finish. I mean, I play lockedown defense, though,
I like.
Speaker 1 (44:33):
H.
Speaker 4 (44:35):
Are you talking about Like you're on the football field
pretending there's a ball in your hand and time like
air guitar with a basketball. You're saying his game is
pretty good when there's no ball.
Speaker 3 (44:43):
In his hands.
Speaker 2 (44:44):
Everybody's getting good with.
Speaker 4 (44:46):
It's debatable, Jake. Let me ask you, Uh, the group
of guys that you get to hang out with when
that tight end room, what would you say has made
that unit special?
Speaker 2 (44:58):
Oh?
Speaker 20 (44:58):
Man, I'm that that group. We're all very close knit group.
We've got a lot of young guys in there with us,
and the good thing the thing about that group is
we're all so close and we're all we all have
a great relationship with each other. We hang out with
each other outside of football all the time, and it
really brings our group closer together. But the entire group,
(45:21):
we all we all work our butts off. We all
come to work every day ready to go, and everyone
is given their best effort, and you know, it just
makes the group so much fun to be around, and
you know it's with coach parents. It just makes the
whole process fun. When we're all working hard together and
everyone's held at the same level of accountability, and it's
(45:45):
just it's a really special group. It's makes it fun
going going to work every day and going to be
with the guys and makes it really special for me.

Bulldogs Trail twelve to seven warners under center for third
and two from the thirty three move the tight end
strength to the right side of the line, play action
bootleg throws. I've got left sideline beach them with room
down the sideline, midfield to the.
Speaker 2 (50:07):
Beach.
Speaker 3 (50:07):
I'm still running with a still arm.
Speaker 4 (50:09):
Grabbed by the helmet and taking down inside the five.
That wrenched his neck backwards. But Cam Beacham with the
longest play of his Bulldog career that was still.
Speaker 3 (50:23):
That was a big win for the Bulldogs at Hawaii.
Speaker 4 (50:26):
That may make the difference in getting them into a
conference title game if they take care of business for
the final two games starting Saturday Nights seven thirty against
Utah State Senior Night for guys like Cam Beacham and
Jake Tarwater pair of tight ends, or with us here
at the point Pattio Barnbistro for ten more minutes before
we give away the prizes. Cam, did you hear it
(50:47):
from your teammates about not getting in.
Speaker 3 (50:50):
On that play?
Speaker 2 (50:50):
Immediately? Immediately?
Speaker 24 (50:52):
I said something to him right away. Yeah, jac said
good job, and he picked me up. He saw it
was he saw I was kind of mad. I was
the one yard line. But everybody soon as I came upside,
and everybody you slow, you slow, you slow, Yeah, you're slow.
So it's like, I mean, I was, I was trying
my heart. I think when I broke, I broke my
stride from the point and they just messed it up.
Speaker 4 (51:14):
So everybody just you got ahead of yourself a little bit.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
Yeah, where were you pointing at?
Speaker 2 (51:19):
I was.
Speaker 20 (51:19):
I was running downfield with him and he was pointing,
like telling me which guy to block. I went and
boxed and went put my body on the line, just
dope for that guy. Yeah, and then I get up
came on the one yard line.
Speaker 24 (51:33):
I was yeah, man, yeah, I was just excited getting
in a free touchdown.
Speaker 4 (51:38):
You know that's true. Yeah, you're just a generous guy.
Speaker 2 (51:41):
Feel me. I'm just I just like giving a sis.
Speaker 4 (51:44):
Sounds like Jake expected that his block was good enough
to get you in the Endzel though.
Speaker 24 (51:49):
Yeah, yeah, I got I got try. I had to
get him back. I gotta we we got something. I'll
get it back for him.
Speaker 13 (51:55):
It was good.
Speaker 3 (51:56):
So Cam, even knowing Jake a while.
Speaker 4 (51:59):
Before, you tell me what your favorite Jake Tarwater between
the Lines moment is, what if you appreciated about him
as a friend and teammate.
Speaker 24 (52:07):
As a friend, he's kept me uh steady with my
mindset like he's always kept me positive. He's always been
there for me when I needed somebody to talk to
about my problems when it came to football or even
sometimes with life. He's always uh like he's ever since
(52:27):
day one, there's noways, never been any type of like
competition and age or towards each other. We've always just clicked
since day one. We both love anime. We both loved
I didn't have that on my being go card. They
both love anime.
Speaker 4 (52:41):
These big top tight ends both love anime. I've heard
it could be pretty violent. I don't you know, don't.
Speaker 5 (52:49):
Know, but.
Speaker 24 (52:52):
We're just I don't know. I just love this dude.
We're like brothers. Just the charandi is just there ever
since they one, and I appreciate everything's done for me.
Do you ever try to draw anime?
Speaker 2 (53:04):
I used to when I was younger.
Speaker 3 (53:06):
Have you seen any of that, Jake?
Speaker 2 (53:08):
I haven't.
Speaker 3 (53:09):
It sounds like day things to see some of your No,
it's just your craft.
Speaker 2 (53:12):
I definitely need to.
Speaker 4 (53:13):
It's okay, all right. How about your favorite Jake moment
on the field?
Speaker 24 (53:19):
I would have to go this year Oregon State. We
were in thirteen personnel. We have different personnels, and I
think they didn't call the right one because it was
him and Richie were supposed to stay in and block.
Well they had it to where he was running the route,
and we looked at each other like are you supposed
(53:39):
to be doing this?
Speaker 2 (53:40):
And then they called you running.
Speaker 4 (53:42):
The route too?
Speaker 2 (53:42):
Yeah, no, I wasn' running out. They had to be bucking.
Speaker 24 (53:45):
I was running the route. Camera's blocking, and we know
our role. So it was like we looked at each
other like a we supposed to be switched. So they
called the play, called the play, and we looked at
other like and then Jake was like, nah, you do it.
We just went out on the field and I ran
in the corner and he just stayed in and protected.
Speaker 2 (54:00):
It was pretty fine.
Speaker 4 (54:01):
So you guys called your own tight end all audible.
Speaker 2 (54:03):
Basically, I just know.
Speaker 20 (54:05):
Cam Cam's a little bit better route runner, you know,
he's a better So we just we just made the
play better, you know, made it work for everybody.
Speaker 4 (54:14):
What did the coaches say afterwards?
Speaker 2 (54:15):
Nothing? Nothing. It looked like it was normal.
Speaker 3 (54:18):
What are your coaches sitting right over there?
Speaker 4 (54:20):
Listening.
Speaker 24 (54:20):
He probably he probably doesn't even know until.
Speaker 3 (54:25):
What was the result of the play.
Speaker 24 (54:26):
I don't remember. Yeah, I don't know. I think it
was the fust.
Speaker 4 (54:30):
Sure, well, then no one's arguing with success. Jake, what
about for you? What have you appreciated about Cam as
a teammate.
Speaker 2 (54:38):
I mean, I love Caim.
Speaker 20 (54:39):
Ever since I got here, I transferred in and Cam
has always been there for me. He's he's been a
great friend.
Speaker 2 (54:46):
I love him.
Speaker 20 (54:46):
He's like a brother to me. Like he said, we
talk all the time. We've he's always been there for
me for in football stuff like just talking about football,
talking about stuff going on outside of football, just some life.
He's always been a great friend, very supportive, always someone
I can like depend on when I need, when I
want to talk to someone or anything like that. And
(55:08):
you know, he's just he's always been such a great friend.
He's extremely funny. We have a lot of similar interests.
We've and we're very supportive of each other. We've never
they had competition, We always we're always just there for
each other. They've always supporting each other always. I'm always
in his corner, he's always in mine. And it's you know,
I'm blessed to say I have a friendship like that
(55:29):
with Cam. So yeah, I know my brother for life
for sure.
Speaker 4 (55:34):
No, Cap love it. That's the way it's supposed to work.
You say, no Cap, no, no Cat. Yeah, I'm still
trying to figure out what that means. But I think
I've got to handle it. Mike. My daughters in college
will set it straight for me later. Uh, Jake, what
about your favorite Cam beach a moment on the field.
Speaker 20 (55:50):
I'd probably have to go back to my very first
year twenty two when we were playing against Boise State
and we're about to go into half and they they
just score a touchdown and we were down by three.
They kicked the ball off with like four seconds left
and Milik Shard returns it for a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (56:08):
And I didn't know if we were allowed to say
that name anymore, but.
Speaker 2 (56:13):
Hey, he helped us be boys that way. He helped
us twice. Yeah, he helped us twice. Now.
Speaker 20 (56:24):
But Cam made a big block on that too, and
then we so we ran down, We did the kickoff turn,
ran all the way back up to the Lexus side.
We were on score team together. I was the tight end,
he was the wing. Then they rushed our side and
I got killed on it by like three different guys,
And we had to run all the way across the field,
all the way up the ramp, all the way to
the locker room, and we were just talking to each
(56:44):
other when we got back, were like, that's the most
exhausted I've ever been, just running all back and forth,
just kick off return, score team back locker room. We
were just we were both gassed.
Speaker 4 (56:56):
So you're blocking all the way down the field as
the kick return goes to the house of the under
the half from and then you have to kick the
point after there, and you guys are both on the
protection for them, and then you have to run all
the way back to the south.
Speaker 20 (57:10):
And then we just looked at each other.
Speaker 24 (57:12):
Then we're like, oh my, then we had to come
back out and go straight back and kick off return.
Speaker 4 (57:17):
Sounds like a new conditioning drill that you guys have
identified coaching staff right here and we only have a
few minutes left. Senior Night is special because we get
to see some of the people we don't always see
that have had a big hand in your guys career.
So who's going to be there for you guys on Saturday.
Speaker 24 (57:35):
Night, my mom, my dad, and my two older brothers
just for me. Those are like the only four people
that have been there the whole time for my journey
and they do everything to sacrifice what they can for
me to be able to do what I do. So
I only really wanted those four people. It's cool, long
(57:55):
with me, love it.
Speaker 20 (57:57):
How about for you, Jake, I've got a lot of
people coming. I've out my parents, grandparents, sister, brother, nephew's nieces,
and like a lot of my brother in law's family
because I grew up with them. They were in Tahoe
as well where I grew up, and they were my
best friends since childhood and they've always been in my corner.
(58:18):
So I've got a lot of people that are there
supporting me. I'm just so excited to have all of
them there with me on that field and be able
to just appreciate how much Sleay supported me.
Speaker 4 (58:28):
We've got under a minute to goo. I would love
to hear from you guys. Why you think twenty twenty
five Fresno State Bulldogs can be a championship team? What
is it about this group that can get.
Speaker 3 (58:38):
It done well?
Speaker 24 (58:40):
Like coaching says every day, toughness wins, and our team
is the toughest would ever be is gets we get
tougher every day.
Speaker 2 (58:48):
We work hard on our details.
Speaker 24 (58:50):
We are very detail oriented and we don't really care
about who the opponent is. We just care about who
who we are and we care about not being our shelves.
So at the end of the day, as long as
we care about everybody calls about that one eleventh that
they have to do in all three phases, then everybody
will be fine and we'll make it to everywhere we
need to be.
Speaker 20 (59:09):
Basically, yeah, we have an extremely close knit group all
the entire team. We're very close, and I think that's
important because that helps us all fight for each other
and just be tough and keep running the ball.
Speaker 4 (59:22):
Keep running the ball. They'll be running at Saturday night
at seven thirty. We'll see you then on the Bulldog
Sports Network from their field.
Speaker 1 (59:28):
You've been listening to The Bulldog Football Hour, brought to
you by Table Mountain Casino.
Speaker 2 (59:33):
Welcome to the Table.
