Pettio Baring Bistro. Here's your host, the voice of the Bulldogs,

(00:34):
Paul Leffler.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Well, Aloha, it's the Bulldog Football Hour coming to you
Wednesday night. Usually we're on Thursdays, but the Bulldogs won't
be here tomorrow night because they will be on the
island of Oahu getting ready to take on the Rainbow
Warriors Saturday night. You might need a nap Saturday because
the Bulldogs will not kick off till nine o seven
pm our time here in the valley, So don't say

(00:58):
we didn't warn you. And what a big game it is,
conference opener for your three and one Fresno State Bulldogs
who have won three straight games. How about that. We're
here at the Point Patio Bar and Bistro northwest corner
of Willow and Knees. Will be here till eight o'clock tonight,
a little later than normal. Coach matt Ens will join
us for the second half of the hour. But we
have a very special bulldog player who scored his first

(01:19):
career touchdown this past Saturday night in a fifty six
to seven win over Southern. But I'm not going to
introduce him. I'm gonna let the guy who got to
say his name after that touchdown at Valley Children Stadium
the other night, the same guy that you heard say, well,
I'm not even gonna say Nicover Mihio or Jordan mala
Ulu because he says it better than I do. But
let's find out which Jordan is joining us here at

(01:41):
the Point tonight, mister Leaver take it away.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Well, very happy to.

Speaker 5 (01:44):
Have a sixth year senior wide receiver join us, who,
like Paul said, did catch his first touchdown of the year,
and he's gonna catch many, many more. Please welcome to
the Points, ladies and gentlemen. Wide receiver Jordan Brown.

Speaker 6 (02:00):
Appreciate you all having me, sir, Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
When's the last time you sat down for dinner? And
got an introduction like that.

Speaker 7 (02:08):
I don't think ever, I don't think ever fir style.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Well, hopefully it's the start of another good weekend for you.
Jordan Brown, six years senior receiver number eighty one. If
you were paying attention the other night, you saw number
eighty one get in the checkerboard, take a knee and
point up. We'll talk about that special moment for you.
But Jordan, let's talk about some of your journey. You've
been here for six years. Does it seem like six
years in Fresno?

Speaker 7 (02:32):
It does. Actually, I ain't gonna lie, but it's going.

Speaker 6 (02:35):
There's a lot that's happened in the span of six
seven years.

Speaker 7 (02:39):
But it also has full by though for sure.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
You know, we're hoping for really good weather on the islands.
You never know when you might get a little rain
or rainbow. But hopefully the only monsoon we're going to
experience is a Mayfair high school monsoon. Sitting right next
to me, yes, sir, And you know a lot of
guys from Sokel don't really know about Fresno State until
the recruiting process. Your dad played football for UCLA, was

(03:04):
a really good running back for the Bruins. But why
don't you tell everybody why you knew about Fresno State
pretty much your whole life?

Speaker 7 (03:10):
Yeah, no, absolutely.

Speaker 6 (03:11):
First of all, Roderson will say, it's a tremendous honor
being here. Appreciate y'all having me. I just want to
give all gorn and praise to my Lord said of
Jesus Christ, fort and foremost. So, actually, how I know
about Fresnel State? My mom, I think she's watching right now.
Shout out mama. She went to President State. Yeah, so
she came up here. I actually have a picture from
I'm like, I think three or four years old. I

(03:32):
got a little Fresno State beanie on and all that.
So we always, you know, whether you say, with my
dad and Fresno State is always man and family.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
So let's see, if you're three or four years old
and had a beanie on, those would have been the
teams of the early two thousands. Yeah, those are some
pretty good teams that you got to here four, even
if you didn't know what was going on.

Speaker 7 (03:50):
And had no idea.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
Yeah yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
And then so it's one thing to know that Fresno
State exists and have a mom who went to school here.
But how did did you end up making it onto
the team here at Presno State.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (04:03):
For I mean, I just think first of all, it
was all was a divine plan by the Lord.

Speaker 8 (04:09):
You know.

Speaker 7 (04:09):
I didn't really have any offers coming out.

Speaker 6 (04:11):
Well see back up, my senior year in high school
was like my first year really playing receiver. I was
really like, I played running back kind of my whole life.
I played corner even in high school sophomore, junior, but
senior year is my first real year playing receiver. I
feel like I had a really good year and I
was really like, man, like I could probably do this
football thing. I was always play baseball growing up. Baseball

(04:32):
was more my main sport, but it wasn't until like
during and after my senior year football that was like, man,
I could possibly go do this thing.

Speaker 8 (04:39):
And so I was.

Speaker 6 (04:41):
Trying to figure out, you know, hopefully getting offers and
all that. So during the season of my senior year,
this is important or no. My mom also I'm filling
out applications for college, and so they had the cant
Lay application. You know, you put all the do one application,
you put all the schools that you want to send
it to. So I wasn't playing in front Ofville State.
I didn't plan too, I'll be honest like I was

(05:02):
during that time. I was I'm trying to go to
San Diego State. I'm trying to go UCLA. Fresle State
was not in a picture for me. My mom was like,
you better put Fresnel State on there. Like, so put
Frezel State on there. So now fast forward. Didn't have
any offers coming out of high school or after my season.
Springtime come around, just trying to figure out where I
was going to go. I was still playing baseball, got

(05:25):
accepted a. Fresle State was one of the schools I
got accepted to, and so the plan was I was
trying to see where I can popsily walk on at
had fired the opportunity. So my dad that played UCLA,
he played with the previous athletic director. Here, mister Terry
to me. So mister Terry to me was like, hey, like,
this is an April twenty nineteen. He said, hey, why

(05:45):
don't you come up for the spring game, and I
introduced it to the coaches.

Speaker 7 (05:48):
I'm like, cool, bet came.

Speaker 6 (05:49):
Up here, came to the spring game. This is April
twenty nineteen. He introduced me to some of the staff.
The consensus was that they didn't have any spots in
the fall. But if I waited, if I came out
of the spring, I could see about the opportunity. So
I was like, you know, cool, I was praying about it,
trusting the Lord. He you know, took a chance, came
out here. I was just a straight student fall twenty nineteen,
straight student. I'm going to the games as a fan,

(06:11):
So I experienced all that. I know how that's like,
was you know, preparent's still working out during that time,
and then that's when coach Tefford and his staff stepped
down into twenty nineteen, twenty twenty came around.

Speaker 7 (06:20):
That's when coach de Boor came in.

Speaker 6 (06:22):
Was kind of like, didn't know what I was gonna do,
you know, you know, how would I get on the team.

Speaker 7 (06:26):
I don't know anybody.

Speaker 6 (06:27):
They ended up having an open walk on tryout and
so went to tryout, you know, made the team. And
when I officially got them on a team, that was
like right before COVID hit and Covid hit and got
on the team at the perfect time. So been here
since then, and so for me, it's a reminder like
the Lord for phills his promises and he's faithful to that.
So just grateful for sure.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
You know, I'm not gonna argue with that man. But
that's a crazy story. I got a lot of questions.
Jordan Brown is our guest coach. Enseil be here later
the Bulldog Football Hour here till eight o'clock at the
Point Patio Bar and Bistro. Did you get a menu?

Speaker 7 (07:00):
I got what over to do?

Speaker 4 (07:01):
Okay, I to figure out what you're getting yet.

Speaker 6 (07:03):
I've had the steak bites all the time before, so
I might have to see about that. Orders a little
burger one of the two.

Speaker 3 (07:09):
You can't go wrong here at the Point Patio barnbistrobro
By the way, at the start of October, they have
some new menu items coming, including the much anticipated loaded
Brussels sprouts, so you're gonna have to get ready for that.
Talking to Jordan Brown and seeing your white out number
eighty one in your program, and I'm just you know,
you and I have known each other a long time,
and I you know, I don't play favorites, but I

(07:30):
really enjoy hanging out with you and talking to you
and just seeing how you impact your teammates and how
much you care. You really care about being a bulldog,
you care about your teammates. But you just said a
few things that I guess I didn't realize. I didn't
realize that you were sitting in the students section. Yeah, cheery, Yes,
I mean that's six years ago now. So to go

(07:52):
from that to what just happened this past Saturday night.
You actually scored a touchdown on that field that at
that point you didn't know if you'd ever get to
playoff had to be pretty surreal.

Speaker 7 (08:01):
Right, Absolutely, definitely surreal moment.

Speaker 9 (08:03):
You know.

Speaker 6 (08:04):
One, I was just in the moment, like I was
grateful that I was able to help my team out
in that manner, you know, well score and all that,
But for me and my family, it's just so much
that touchdown, like great, you know, being noble, health contribute.
It's just so much what that touchdown represented, you know,
for all, you know, the six years, you know, the
work and all the refining that the Lord was it
for me, football is and not separate from God, like

(08:25):
all the refining that He was doing on me all
during this time, and just all the trials and tribulations,
blessed with tears, all behind the scenes. You know, that's
what that touchdown represented, you know for me, Like and
so just hearing you know, seeing everybody love and supporting
me and you know, congratulating me and all that. And
then just even the video of my mama took a

(08:46):
video of it from where they were sitting at and
just hearing them scream and my parents and you know family,
all their reaction. Like I was literally in tears like
when I was watching that night. So yeah, glory to God.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
So it felt so good. You want to do it again?

Speaker 7 (09:00):
Absolutely?

Speaker 8 (09:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (09:00):
Yeah, absolutely, maybe this week in Honolulu. It's going to
be a nine o'clock kickoff Saturday. The Bulldogs and the
Rainbow Warriors were talking to Jordan Brown. If you've got
a question for him, you can send it our way
on the x app what we used to call Twitter.
Just use that hashtag ask fs and we'll pass it
on to Jordan or coach Answero's coming up at the
bottom of the hour. Yeah, and the other part of

(09:23):
your story is you told it there that really hit me. Well, One,
we got to talk some baseball, because I don't think
you and I have ever talked about your baseball days.
But two, so you finally get a chance after that
walk on tryout to be on the team, and then
you said that's when Covid happened. So if people remember,
at first, there wasn't going to be a season that year.
So here you finally get this dream come true and

(09:44):
now the season shut down.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
How did you handle that?

Speaker 3 (09:46):
I mean, that sounds like an emotional roller coach.

Speaker 6 (09:48):
Now, absolutely it was. It was hilarious, like, so yeah,
gut on them. The team visioned and then Covid hit
and we were honestly, we're about to start springball too, right,
so you know, Covid hit, we got sent home, and
so we were kind of like in the waiting game,
I didn't think that that was gonna happen. This season
gonna end, you know what I mean, or be you know. Uh,
So we're thinking we're gonna come back for springball. So
I'm at home just kind of we're all working out

(10:09):
all that, and then you know, over the summer, the
months weeks to go by, then yeah, the season gets canceled.
At first, so I'm like, dang, Like I was moving
into my apartment in August, like August fifteenth, December, so
I went back into my apartment out here Fresno, and
I was like, I'm just gonna start working a job then,
Like I mean, so I went to go work at
Target and then I was working there for one month
and then Coach Moore he's at he's the Mizzo OC

(10:33):
now and he called me. He was blowing on my phone.
I was like, coach looking back and work called him back.
He's like, yeah, so you know, season just got put.

Speaker 7 (10:39):
Back on Keey report for camp tomorrow. I was like,
I mean, yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 6 (10:44):
I was like, dang, I thought Sason was canceled. He
put it back on, and so yeah, to go tell
that the manager.

Speaker 7 (10:48):
Yeah, I quit.

Speaker 8 (10:48):
I don't be here one month.

Speaker 6 (10:50):
But so I was just exigned like man, like day
season gotta put it go on, like let's go.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
So the story just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it.
And at least you still were wearing the right colors
when you're working for that, you know, department store.

Speaker 7 (11:01):
So yeah, added red on.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
Yeah, uh huh, it's good.

Speaker 7 (11:03):
KACKI jeans technology department.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Yeah, he's Jordan Brown. And there's a lot more to come.
We're gonna get some of your questions that you send
our way on the X app and if you're here
at the Point Patio Bar and Bistro before the magic
moment at eight o'clock when.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
We give away the prizes.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
We have three, not just one, not just two, but
three Bulldog Many helmets that we're gonna give away tonight.

Speaker 3 (11:27):

Speaker 4 (11:29):
Sir?

Speaker 7 (11:29):
Oh I like that black one? Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (11:33):
If someone autographs that, you gotta do it with like
a silver pen or something.

Speaker 7 (11:36):
Pop out.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yep. Well, we have these many helmets to give away.
We're gonna have a lot of fun. Come, eat some
great food, have whatever you want to drink. Meet Jordan
Brown and coach Matt Ense will be here shortly. Keep
it here on the Bulldog Football Hour, the Bulldog Sports
Network from their field.

Jordan Brown first career to Jeff Yeah, the sixth year
senior from the Monsoons of Mayfair High School.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
His father played for UCLA. Last night was a tough
one tonight the Brown family all smiles. Six years in
the waiting and the first time in his career he's
tasted that checkerboard. Yeah, he wasn't really thinking about that.

Speaker 8 (15:24):
JB.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Kind of probably helped your dad get over the Bruins
lost the day before to New Mexico.

Speaker 8 (15:28):
Huh.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Yeah, absolutely, I know.

Speaker 7 (15:30):
He was like he was talking about, like, man, our
skip will do a great job.

Speaker 8 (15:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Former Bulldog interim coach Tim Skipper now the interim coach
at UCLA, and we certainly wish him the best. Meanwhile,
Matt Enson, his Bulldogs had a Hawaii Saturday, nine o'clock.
Our time will be the kick coach Ense will be
here at about fifteen minutes. We have senior wide receiver
Jordan Brown with us. And Jordan, We've got a question
here from a Bulldog fan sidelines Fresno State on the
ex app use that hashtag askfs and wants to know,

(16:00):
outside of scoring your first touchdown, which we just talked about,
what is your favorite memory or moment as a Bulldog.

Speaker 6 (16:07):
Yeah, I mean I got a lot of years here,
you know what I'm saying, It's a lot.

Speaker 7 (16:12):
I mean I would say.

Speaker 6 (16:14):
That U c l A win. I mean that that
U s LA win. That was like, you know, remarkable
mom with just being there on a team, like and
just seeing what was going on in the moment, you know,
before that last draw and then seeing the culmination everybodys
something after, like just being a part of that whole
thing like that was crazy, insane. So I was on
the team that and then when I wasn't on the team,
me running out on the field my freshman year, I

(16:38):
wasn't on the team.

Speaker 7 (16:39):
Yeah, I say those two things.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
So you mean the first game of the year, when
any new students get to run on the field.

Speaker 7 (16:44):
Yeah, when I was on the team, I would say that.

Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, that's that's a pretty cool memory to it.

Speaker 4 (16:49):
And that game at the Rose Bowl. Jake cater is
going to.

Speaker 3 (16:53):
Be talking about that fifty years from now. It sounds
like you will be too. Jordan Brown is our guest.
See you're white out, and you said, and we were
talking about your journey and coming out of high school
you read it really didn't know how things were gonna go,
but baseball was a big deal to you. So I'm
just guessing you played middle endfield or center field.

Speaker 7 (17:09):
Yep, yep, play short.

Speaker 3 (17:10):
Okay, got pretty good hands?

Speaker 7 (17:12):
Absolutely, Yeah, I still got it too, you.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
Know what I mean? Well, that's my question. Have you
ever gone over there with coach Overland to know what
you can do?

Speaker 15 (17:18):
You know?

Speaker 6 (17:19):
It was funny actually my during COVID year that's twenty
twenty year hour, which is like kind of halfway messing
around with a baseball coach.

Speaker 7 (17:25):
But I was kind of serious.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
I was like, hey, like, you know, I could play,
you know, And so he was kind of like, hey,
well talk to coaches and then you know, come over
here and talk to us. And so for me at
the time, I was you know, a walk on guy,
didn't have that standing yet.

Speaker 7 (17:36):
To be, you know, to leave for four or five
months to play. So I just kind of like that.
But I don't know.

Speaker 6 (17:43):
I've had a lot of dreams though a by playing baseball,
but it so it's hard to get back.

Speaker 7 (17:47):
Into after so many years.

Speaker 4 (17:48):
You've got right hand or left handed?

Speaker 7 (17:50):
Right handed?

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Can you hit a curveball?

Speaker 7 (17:52):
Absolutely?

Speaker 3 (17:52):
Come on now?

Speaker 7 (17:53):
Yeah, my little brother though, Jacob Brown.

Speaker 6 (17:56):
Yeah, yep, Jacob Brown, freshman or sophomore.

Speaker 7 (17:59):
Now they for a high school. Anybody watching, anybody here
listening to this, go check them out. Jacob Brown.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
Well, you know, I'm just thinking at the end of
the football season, you know, if you're still on campus,
you know, maybe were you a pretty good bass stealer
at at Vapair?

Speaker 7 (18:14):
Absolutely? Yeah, all of the above.

Speaker 6 (18:17):
Yeah, I can play whatever position played outfield on my
travel ball teams.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Coach O might be listening right now. I'm just saying that.
We'll say, though, but I don't want to distract you.
We don't want to get ahead. You got a big
game Saturday night in Hawaii. Talking to Jordan Brown, Bulldog
senior receiver, and I guess that's a question some people
may have to. You know, it used to be here
and score for four years, then it's five. I mean
we call you a six year senior. Technically for going
back to twenty nineteen, I would almost make it seven years,

(18:43):
I guess. Yeah, So what have you accomplished academically during
that time and what are you working on now?

Speaker 7 (18:48):
Yes?

Speaker 6 (18:49):
So I got my undergraduate degree, my bachelor's and Sports
Kinesiology Sports Administration. I graduated in spring of twenty three
and then currently right now finish shouting up my master's
in Business Administration, getting my MBA. So I'll be finished
this fall as well. So perfect time in last year eligibility,
last semester of you know, my master's program, walk out

(19:12):
here two.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
Degrees except for that baseball eligibility of the spread. You
still got that too.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
You laugh. Your story is pretty crazy. It could get crazier.

Speaker 3 (19:20):
I'm just saying. And do you have an idea? I know,
the NBA from the Craig School of Business, very prestigious degree.
Is there something that you're already thinking you would like
to do with that or a certain sector that you'd
like to tap into some of your entrepreneurial skills.

Speaker 7 (19:34):
In yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 6 (19:35):
I think there's a few different things I would like
to do. I mean, I want to get into real
estate with my dad. He's a broker, real estate agent,
brown House Guilty has his own business, so I think
I want to get in real estate with him firstly.

Speaker 7 (19:46):
But I think the I kind of just want to
be owning different businesses.

Speaker 6 (19:51):
I think that's like the end goal, like just to
be able to own most of different things.

Speaker 7 (19:55):
I would like, long down the road, be able to
open up a sports facility.

Speaker 6 (19:58):
But I think even another thing E sting about was
working my way up into an NFL front office position.
I think that's something kind of immediately I think I
would like to do as well.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Well, we've got seven years worth of teammates to talk
to about that, right, So we're in the league now, right, Yeah,
we're talking to Jordan Brown, number eighty one on your
Bulldog squad. They're taking on Hawaii Saturday night, nine o'clock.
Here's a question that came from Scott, who's out here
at the point Patti Obaran Bistro, which means he might
win one of these many helmets courtesy of the Bulldog
locker that we have here tonight. We've got a red one,

(20:28):
a black one, and a white one. We're going to
be giving those away. If you want this a Loha
shirt that I'm wearing here. This is available at the
Kennel Marketplace over at Campus Point.

Speaker 4 (20:38):
So here's Scott's question for you.

Speaker 12 (20:41):
Who.

Speaker 3 (20:42):
I got to read your writing, Scott, pretty good penmanship.
Who was one of your favorite players college players growing up?
And he also said something that is key. He said,
thank you for staying at Fresno State, because in this
day and age, it's kind of unique to.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Have some wouldn't stay at one school for that long.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
Did you have somebody a college player that you watched
and you said, man, that guy's fun to watch.

Speaker 6 (21:08):
Yeah, I think my even my cousin Nick Wilson, he
was a running back at Arizona. He's a friend, no native,
he been Central High watching him playing running back. I
think that was one person I really looked up to
as well, you know, him doing his thing on the
big stage and all that, you know, once to Central
all that. Like I just said, so that was one

(21:28):
person I watched as well growing up.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
Am I remembering right?

Speaker 3 (21:31):
That? In high school they played Christian McCaffrey's team and
he popped off a big, cushdown run.

Speaker 7 (21:35):
Did they Okay, I didn't know that.

Speaker 3 (21:37):
I might be misremembering, but I know they went up
to play that team in Denver.

Speaker 7 (21:41):
Yeah, I know that. I know there was the same class,
but I didn't know they played each other.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
You can ask him and let them know.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
Down the road, we're here at the point Pattio Bar
and Bistro. You can hear the fountain behind us. They've
got fires going and they're firing up some fantastic food.
Jordan said he's thinking steak bites or Berger.

Speaker 4 (21:59):
You know they say that stir is really good too.

Speaker 7 (22:01):
I'm goa to check that out.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Coach answers partial to the spicy chicken raft. The short
ripped tacos are excellent. I've had the peach salad with
a grilled hall Ofpaeno on top of the last couple
of weeks. That's been good.

Speaker 8 (22:11):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (22:12):
The pat tie famous for that.

Speaker 7 (22:14):
Okay, Okay, so check it out.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
You got time to decide and the rest you have
time to think of a good question for Jordan Brown.
When we come back to Bulldog Football Hour, Coach answer
here in a few minutes, come join us. You might
win a miny helmet. We're here till eight o'clock on

This time they toss it to Luke on a sweep
with Ramirez lead blocking in. There goes Speedy touchdown, flying
into the checkerboard. Touchdown FREENDSNS State. That was a fun
night at Valley Children Stadium Saturday. Speedy Luke up to
six touchdowns on the season. He's among the national leaders

(25:52):
for Bulldogs scored their first ever touchdowns on this past
Saturday night, including the gentleman who's with us right now,
Jordan Brown. I was thinking about you and Jonathan Arseno,
another SoCal guy who's been here a long time.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
Waiting for a chance to play.

Speaker 3 (26:08):
I bet you enjoyed celebrating with him when he got
his two.

Speaker 6 (26:11):
Absolutely, And that was my locker mate for like two
or three years before I moved lockers and he had
a shoot. He has so many ties to Louisiana, you know,
between his his dad, his family, family went to son
and all that, and so we were talking about it
like man like if he is going to know this time,
like he really want to make sure you got to
touch down on that guy. So I know he was

(26:32):
super happy. He was whoer excited for that as well,
and I was having for him.

Speaker 3 (26:36):
Yeah, and we'll see what these guys can do this
week in Hawaii. That'll be a nine to seven our
time kickoff. Our pregame coverage starts at seven o'clock Saturday night,
and looking forward to bringing you all the action with
coach Pat Hill. Kenny Wiggins gonna make the trip with
us as well. We're here at the point Patty of
Barb Strut till eight o'clock. We've got three many helmets
that we're gonna give away. If you come join us here,

(26:57):
write your name on a slip of paper and stick
it in the not so many helmet that's sitting up
here with Jordan Brown. Coach Ens is going to be
here momentarily.

Speaker 8 (27:05):
Uh JB.

Speaker 3 (27:05):
You're one of the only guys on the team that
was there the last time Fresno State played at Hawaii.
It was a surreal scene. Aloha Stadium had been condemned.
They were just starting to play on this on campus
practice field, fixing it up. Fans weren't allowed. It was
still the quasi covid era. Their band was there though.
How weird was it to be on the field in

(27:27):
that environment that day?

Speaker 7 (27:29):
Yeah, it was. It was a weird trip in general.

Speaker 6 (27:32):
You know, our fight had got delayed, you know, hours
like Motlant and so we got there super late. I
think it was on that Friday night, you know, and
then the whole trip obviously, then then not having a
bunch of fans, it was just a.

Speaker 7 (27:47):
A whole ruckus of stuff.

Speaker 6 (27:49):
You know, if obviously we let that game slip away,
So you know, we're trying to make sure we go
back this time and get the job done.

Speaker 3 (27:56):
Leave with a W.

Speaker 7 (27:57):
So as long as we focus on the process would
be good.

Speaker 8 (27:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
Yeah, And you got guys on this team that have
never been In fact, coach Hez has never been to Hawaii.
He said earlier this week that he actually wanted to
talk to you guys about some of the things that
could be distractions to make sure there was no excuse
for allowing those things to be a distraction.

Speaker 4 (28:15):
Right, what have you heard.

Speaker 3 (28:16):
From your teammates and what are some of the things
you guys have been talking about this week as you prepare.

Speaker 6 (28:20):
Right, Yeah, Like, I think that was the first thing
that coach he came in there was talking about. He
was asking people like, what's the first thing that you
think about when think when I think Hawaii? Like if
I said Hawaii was the first thing thing about you know,
people saying beach, you know, loja, little food, uh, little stuff.
So and then he was just listening out things that
people on our side would say, like oh, that we

(28:41):
could use as an excuse, but it's like we're gounn
this thing's handled before that time comes life. So there
is no excuses like we're gonna go out there like
this is a business trip. We're not going out there
for a vacation and all that, like we're going there
on a business trip. And so even the players and
teammates and all that, you know, we're all locked in
on what the mission is that we're going there to do.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
And it's a conference opener. Their quarterback, michaeh Alahado, it
was just announced this week is going to be back
for this game.

Speaker 4 (29:06):
He missed the last two games.

Speaker 3 (29:08):
And it's Fresno State Hawaii. It's one of the best
rivalries the Bulldogs have had over the years. When it
comes to you and how you see your role on
this team, because you've been on a lot of teams
here and your role maybe has been a little different
every year. Yeah, how would you articulate your role on this.

Speaker 4 (29:25):
Group this year?

Speaker 8 (29:26):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (29:26):
Absolutely, I would say the first role I think one
just again all go in praise to my learn and
savor Jesus Christ. The fact that He's placed me here.
I don't take lightly. I know that my purpose here
is being a spiritual leader on the team, you.

Speaker 7 (29:40):
Know, leading guys in the word meaning.

Speaker 6 (29:42):
Guys and helping them grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ,
you know, trying to do whatever I can to be
faithful to that mission first, you know, Matthew twenty nineteen says,
you know, go there for go there for all nation's
baptized the name and name of Father Son, the Holy Spirit.
So I think that one. That's my first role. That's
my main role, I think, just even as a leader,
being an older guy, you know, receiver and all that. Like,

(30:05):
just trying to help league guys in whatever way they can,
you know, helping guys out what they plays. You know,
people make sure that MESSI locked in for the games.
And then when I am on the field, I just
making sure I'm doing my job right in the run game,
in the past game, when I get those opportunities.

Speaker 3 (30:19):
Well, hopefully a lot more of those opportunities are coming up.
Saturday night in Honolulu nine to seven, kick you know,
one more thing before I let you go. I don't
think I've ever asked you this in all these years
that you've been hanging out here. Is there a real
driving reason behind the number eighty one? Was that number
special to you or is that just what you ended

(30:39):
up with.

Speaker 7 (30:40):
Yeah, so that's a great question. Thank you for asking that.
So my number of growing up actually.

Speaker 3 (30:45):
Was twenty one, okay, because I played I.

Speaker 7 (30:47):
Played running back.

Speaker 6 (30:48):
I start wearing that because I started playing football when
I was five, and my older cousin, Aaron, he was
playing out even somebody looked up to as well, he
wore twenty one. So I wore twenty one because I
am that's all just growing up all, you know, Elementary school.

Speaker 7 (31:01):
Pop Warner High School a ward twenty one.

Speaker 6 (31:03):
Then obviously when I got to college, they first I
got on the team, they gave me eighty one. And
so there's over the years, I've tried to change it
a couple of times and it just allways didn't seem
like it worked out, you know what I mean. And
so this year I had another two where I could
have switched my number. It's a lot of different things.
I've wanted the order, guys, I've been like I would
have been able to and well, I was just kind
of feeling like, man, well the Lord, like he's placed

(31:25):
me here. You know, for all these years, people know
eighty one. I'm Jordan Brown is associated with eighty one.

Speaker 7 (31:32):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 6 (31:32):
I just felt like, man, it was just my duty
just to you know, just to stick with it and
just to you know, write a number out.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
So well, it's great to see eighty one in the
ends on Saturday night, wasn't it, Jordan Brown Senior, white out.
Thanks for hanging out, man, Enjoy a great dinner from
the point, and we'll see in Hawaii.

Speaker 7 (31:48):
Absolutely, thank you, Yes, sir, all right, we'll be back.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
Coach matt enswers here.

Speaker 3 (31:52):
We've got questions for him. And don't forget if you
come join us at the Point, you can win a
mini helmet. Keep it here for the Bulldog Football Hour
on the Bulldog Sports Network from their field.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
Great catcher touchdown for the tight end. Richie Anderson told
you there are four Bulldogs that scored their first career
touchdowns on Saturday night. You already heard from one of them,
Jordan Brown, but we're going to get to hear from
the guy who was in charge of all of that.
He needs a proper introduction, though, So once again we
turn you over to the voice of Valley Children Stadium,

(35:32):
Mister Matt.

Speaker 5 (35:33):
Leeabers, please welcome the head coach of your Bulldogs.

Speaker 1 (35:38):
One goal and one goal only to go one to oher.

Speaker 5 (35:41):
This week, none other than head coach Matt As.

Speaker 8 (35:46):
He appreciate it, thank you very much. Man.

Speaker 3 (35:49):
He's even coaching up the public address announcer. Now that
sounded like something that's been said in your locker room
or in your clubhouse this week. I want to know
this week.

Speaker 26 (35:56):
That's we try to not look too far in the future.
That creates problems.

Speaker 3 (36:02):
And this is a big deal. You're three and one,
you've won three straight, but this is the conference opener,
and this is you know what, in so many ways
a season is gauged on, is how you perform in
conference Presno States last year in the Mountain West Conference
and you're facing a Hawaii team that it's got a
little momentum going to and getting its quarterback back. We'll
talk about the trip angle of it, but just from

(36:23):
a football perspective, how do you size up the challenge
in front of you Saturday night.

Speaker 26 (36:26):
Well, they're a really well coached football team. You know,
they've they beat acc team in Stanford home opener this year.
They've continued to play very consistent on both sides of
the football. I know they've had a little bit of
it's been fluid at the quarterback position, but really both
young men that they played at that quarterback position, I've
have done a really nice job. You know, both of

(36:49):
them have led them to wins. You know, I know
they're going to play unbelievably hard in their home stadium.
I know that they're going to be ready to play
the Bulldogs, and so we need to we need to
we need to eliminate some distractions, make sure we show
up myriads start fast on Saturday. But uh, this is
this is a good football team we're playing, and I'm excited.

Speaker 3 (37:12):
Well and you mentioned, uh the business angle of this,
and that was a question on the ex app using
the hashtag ask fs from Fresno's Finest who says, Hawaii
has always been a problem to travel and prepare for
due to the obvious distractions and elements. How are you
preparing your team to stay focused and treat this as
a business trip versus a vacation in a football game?

Speaker 8 (37:32):
Well one trying to you know, we need to preface it.

Speaker 26 (37:36):
Anytime you're doing with eighteen to twenty two year olds,
you know, there's a little bit of you know, our
intent is to make sure starting on Monday, we we
identified all the all the traps, all the you know,
all the potholes that were out there that that we
could stub our toe on the travel.

Speaker 8 (37:56):
You mean we could crume up with all.

Speaker 26 (37:57):
These excuses and wed them by just identifying them and saying, hey,
this is how we're going to attack it. This is
our angle, this is our approach. Having a routine, sticking
to our routine, I think is critical. You know, we're
we're we're going to practice tomorrow morning. Here, We're gonna
do all of our prep. We're gonna have meetings in

(38:18):
the morning, we'll practice, we'll leave, you know, our travel
will be kind of emulate our time at class. And
then when we get there, uh, you know, our our
training room will open back up. We'll have MEO, we'll
get into some meetings, we'll have a little bit of
a walkthrough. We will do a yoga recovery in the evening,
just to kind of get our guys moving around a
little bit, maybe a little bit of a sweat going.

(38:39):
Typically on a Thursday, we don't do a lot with
them in the evening and so, you know, but again
just trying to continue to educate. But we also got
to trust them too, you know, we we got to
make sure that they're they're ready. We keep them engage
tips and reminders all that stuff on the on the
flight tomorrow, but just trying to be proactive, trying to
you know, identify any issue that we could have and

(39:01):
make sure that we they understand what our plan looks
like to attack it.

Speaker 3 (39:06):
And when I heard you talk about eighteen to twenty
two year olds, I mean, on one hand, I'm aware
that you've been dealing with that age group for three decades.
But hasn't been any different for you in this season
where your two boys are both in that age range.

Speaker 26 (39:18):
Oh, it always is. You know, I probably have a
little bit of insight, you know, I'm a dad of
two college age kids. I'm a dad of two college
age athletes, so I do have some empathy for, you know,
kids on our football team who might come in and
be frustrated with the amount of time they're playing, or

(39:40):
not playing up to their capability, or you know, whatever
might be going on in their worlds. It's not foreign
to me. I told them just on the other night that,
you know, guys, when I call my own kids, I
know by the tone of their voice if things are
going well or not. And maybe that's a little bit
of you know, dad, you know, or maybe it's the

(40:01):
head coach and me that you know, you can see
those things you can feel those things, so, you know,
but I think that's I think it's a positive to have.
And I think our players, you know, I think they
respond to could. I talk to them just like as
if they were my own two And I told them
when I took over being the head coach, you're gonna
get treated just like my own kids do, and you're
gonna have the same set of standards that my own

(40:22):
kids have as well.

Speaker 3 (40:24):
Yeah, it's a big part of the equation. We're talking
to coach matt Enz. We're here at the Point Patio
bar and Bistro northwest corner of Willow and Knees where
the buttercake is it gone? They made the buttercake disappear. Boy,
I got to smell it and look at it, and
I've never seen it before, but it's pretty fantastic. Have
you tried any desserts here?

Speaker 26 (40:42):
Cut I don't know if I've had the buttercake here,
but since moving to California, I have become a fan
of buttercake.

Speaker 8 (40:49):
I mean, really cake good, butter good. What would never
be wrong with it?

Speaker 3 (40:55):
Well, especially for a guy from Iowa, where they're kind
of famous for their butter sculpture. There aren't they.

Speaker 26 (40:59):
That's that's another We are state Fair yet fried oreos
as well, fink twinkie, fry everything at the Iowa State Fair.

Speaker 3 (41:08):
Well, we've got the big present affair coming soon, and
they do have fried oreos and fried twinkies and fried pepsi,
fried pretty much anything. Hopefully no fried cell phones or
football helmets or anything like that. There's a question that's
coming in on the ex app that I'll get to
in a minute about one of your players, But I
want to ask you about the gentleman who's here tonight,
Jordan Brown, because I've known him a long time, but
I learned a few things about him tonight that I

(41:29):
hadn't realized. One that he was here as a student
for a year before he got on the team. He
actually sat in the student section and cheered on the dogs.
And then Saturday night he got to score a touchdown
on that field where he used to just be a fan.
You haven't been here that long, but obviously you've seen
some things with number eighty one. What do you appreciate
about his contributions to the team.

Speaker 26 (41:49):
He is a He is the epitome of a servant leader, selfless,
it's all about his team, the things that he does,
he'll he'll never know. I can't tell him enough how
much I appreciate his approach, his his way.

Speaker 8 (42:06):
Of leading his football team.

Speaker 26 (42:08):
He impacts so many people on our football team, but
also in the athletic department. You know, a young man
that's grounded in his faith and is willing to talk
about it with his teammates and share.

Speaker 8 (42:20):
And and I'm.

Speaker 26 (42:21):
Excited about what he did, what he does for our
football team. But also I mean, he's what he got
on Saturday, he deserved. He comes to practice every day
ready to go.

Speaker 8 (42:31):
He does it the right way. I didn't know.

Speaker 26 (42:33):
I tells you how little I look at numbers or
look at you know, production.

Speaker 8 (42:38):
It's all about what's next.

Speaker 26 (42:39):
And you know, when I found out that we had
four guys that you know, first touchdowns, I was blown away.
But and him included. But you know, super excited about him.
And hopefully we can find a couple more times in
the end zone for him this year.

Speaker 3 (42:52):
Amen, maybe even in Honolulu on Saturday night. That's a
nine o'clock kickoff the Bulldogs and the Bows. The Mountain
West opener. Another player that one of our listeners wants
to know about sending the question on the x app
with the hashtag ask fs is Corey foreman number zero
on the defensive line, who compared himself to a couple
of different comic book characters after the game because of

(43:13):
his face paint there. But he said, Corey Forman's coming
off his best performance of the season. What did you
like about him last week? And what do you want
to see more of going forward from Corey Forman?

Speaker 26 (43:23):
But you know, Corey's one is play counts going up,
and so he tells me he's getting into great football shape.
He's understand he's playing on early downs. He loves third down.
But you know, for a guy like Corey, you know,
we challenge those guys all the time. Corey included that
you got to earn the right to rush the passer,
and that means you got.

Speaker 8 (43:40):
To be good early so you can win late. And
he did that.

Speaker 26 (43:44):
He is he's practicing at a high level. I think
you're seeing a young man that's going into a senior year.
In the middle of the senior year that really is
is having an enjoyable experience, valued experience right now being
a bulldog and so that that I love seeing that
I think that's what it's all about. And if you
can win a bunch of games along the way too,
that just makes it even better.

Speaker 3 (44:05):
Yeah, like when in the conference opener Saturday night at
nine o'clock Fresno State in the University of Hawaii. Looking
forward to that. If you've got a question for the coach,
you can cend it our way on the ex app
used that hashtag ask fs or come join us here
in person. At the point we're here for another fifteen minutes,
we've got three many helmets to give away courtesy of
the Bulldog Locker. Do you have any shirts like this yet, coach?
We got this at the Kennel Marketplace.

Speaker 26 (44:26):
I you know, one showed up in my office today
very similar to that.

Speaker 3 (44:31):
Well good, you'll look good at it. And I had
a lot of comments from people who noted the shirts
that your coaching staff was wearing on the sideline this
last week, yep, for Heroes Night. And I know we
talked about it last week throughout the week, but it
was clear to me that last week was not just
a promotion for you. It meant a lot more.

Speaker 26 (44:49):
It did you know, had the invite to go out
to the the honor flight. When they took off, that
was a really cool event to see, you know, all
those all those gentlemen, men and women, and then they're
also their guardians that go with them. I mean, just
salt of the earth, just high caliber people, truly, you know,

(45:11):
the heroes.

Speaker 8 (45:12):
You know.

Speaker 26 (45:13):
I know sometimes athletes and coaches get you know, maybe
a little more attention than we deserve, but you know,
those those individuals are pretty unique and pretty special.

Speaker 8 (45:22):
They all have a great story, and you know, it
was the least we could do.

Speaker 26 (45:26):
I mean, we we understand the importance you know of
all of our first responders and and and military personnel,
and we have a National Guard Air Force base right here,
and we felt like, you know, how could we give
them some some recognition. And I tell you what, the
guys with the most fun Saturday night were the pilots

(45:47):
that led the team out.

Speaker 3 (45:49):
And they all stayed on their feet, nobody went down.

Speaker 8 (45:51):
That was a that was a win.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
They had a good landing. It's time for a break,
but we've got much more to come. With Matt Ntz,
Kurt Warner, I was very impressed with too, came and
talked to a lot of the Honor Flight Veterans Saturday
and the helicopter units. But I want to talk to
you about his son Ejay when we come back in
the progress.

Speaker 4 (46:06):
He's made matt ants here with us the.

Speaker 14 (49:44):

Speaker 3 (49:51):
Oh, there are a lot of big moments Saturday night,
weren't There is a great time, great crowd thirty seven
thousand plus your next chance to catch the Bulldogs at
home of the October four against the University of Nevada.
That'll be the first conference home game. But the first
conference game is Saturday night in Hawaii, nine o'clock kickoff,
so be ready to stay up late with us. Coach

(50:11):
matt Ens is here at the Point Pattio Bar and Bistro.
We've got another ten minutes before we give away these
many helmets tonight. Thanks again to Jordan Brown seeing you're
wide out for joining us tonight. Had some great things
to share and Coach I say that going to Hawaii. Now,
this is the first time you've ever been to Hawaii.

Speaker 8 (50:27):
Correct, you are correct, Ye, first time.

Speaker 3 (50:30):
And you've talked to the team about eliminating distractions. But
are there any little things that you just have to
experience on the island because you've heard about them from
so many people over the years.

Speaker 26 (50:41):
No, we are going to take the team to Pearl
Harbor kind of in a after our morning walkthrough and
some and do some morning football stuff on Friday. There
just becomes a real a big block of time, and
so we felt like that would be something that would
be worthwhile. Again, we have so many of our players

(51:01):
and peak personnel within our program that have someone immediate
family in the military, brothers, sister, friends, and so, you know,
felt like it'd be a that's one of those you
know things that you you want to see, you know,
that's it's a check the box.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
Absolutely, it's it's impactful and you never know how it's
going to impact somebody. There's a question that just came
in on the X app. They might be trolling you
a little bit on this one, So I'm gonna I'm
gonna hold off on that for just a second and
ask you. There was some reports today things that have
been rumored, but now it looks like it's more real
that you know. One of the things that's frustrated so

(51:39):
many people is the timing of transfer portal windows, the
fact that there's been multiple windows and now they're saying
it's just going to be reduced to one opportunity, you know,
barring circumstances like UCLA right now, where our coach leaves
and guys have thirty days. How do you feel about
the proposed changes and what kind of difference do you
think that's going to make.

Speaker 8 (52:00):
I'm in favor of it.

Speaker 26 (52:01):
I was on a couple of phone calls with some
of the people that have helped kind of push this
through and you know, to have a I know right
now they're kind of, you know, have said early January.
I think it's like the second through the eleventh of
January ten day window.

Speaker 8 (52:18):
I think that fits with what our sport is.

Speaker 26 (52:20):
I think when you return second semester and you and
you have that first meeting, well that's your team, that's
it that you want to start your off season, You
want to start your preparation for the following season, and
you want to know that you know, minus injuries. And
again that's the worst part of the game. That this
is the core you know, that's going to lead us
into whatever season it might be.

Speaker 3 (52:42):
Yeah, and better January second, well, there still might be
a few bowl games. Most of the ball games are
done by then. And it's I mean, it's just been
bizarro world the last few years to see the change
in bowl games because guys are in the portal right.

Speaker 26 (52:54):
Well, and you know, Paul, that's the answer is you know,
to me, it's moved the season up, eliminate Week zero,
Just start the season that week, move everything up, and
get the national championship game as close to.

Speaker 8 (53:08):
The first of the month of January like it used
to be.

Speaker 26 (53:12):
Yeah, like when we had the granddaddy of them all,
the Rose Bowl, the Orange Bowl, they were all, I mean,
January first was an unbelievable.

Speaker 8 (53:18):
Day to watch bull games.

Speaker 26 (53:19):
Well, if we could get that game closer to that day,
then it fits our model. Right now, football has become
a two semester sport and it doesn't fit and so
we need to try to let's compete, Let's get it
done in one semester, and so that way, that January
portal date works for everybody.

Speaker 3 (53:37):
I think you've got a lot of people here that
are agreeing with you on that. So here's the question
that came in from Carter on the X app. He says,
do you get a chance to watch NFL games on
Sunday or did you give up on the Steelers after
they lost to the Browns and the twenty twenty one playoffs.
It sounds like that's a personal dig, right, Yeah.

Speaker 8 (53:57):
I know I got a sneaky suspicion.

Speaker 26 (53:59):
I know who that is right now, But I have
not given up on the Steelers. I you know, on Sundays,
I probably have the games on in the background, but
my attentions elsewhere, it's just kind of background noise. Like
I said, I am a I am a Steelers fan,

(54:20):
but I've really become just a fan of any team
where I have a former player that might be playing,
and so I get excited to see those guys have
success and and and and live off their dream.

Speaker 3 (54:34):
Yeah, it sounds like one of year old players at NDSU,
Carson Wentz maybe getting some time.

Speaker 26 (54:38):
I was going to get the starting nod for the
Vikings this week, so I'll be exciting.

Speaker 3 (54:42):
And speaking of quarterbacks, E J. Warner had his best
game as a dog really a half. I mean, put
up a game full of numbers, twenty of twenty four
four touchdown passes. What did you take away from that
performance and what are you hoping it leads to for
his performance and conference play?

Speaker 8 (54:58):
Well, I think we've all well.

Speaker 26 (55:00):
I mean even before Saturday night, he was completing it
at a high percentage already. I mean it was probably
close to seventy percent, And I think he saw a
really good decision making. You saw a young man that
was in and out of the huddle. Was we had
only one little glitch and I think that was some
communication there right there in that two minute drew right
before half, we had to call a timeout because you know,

(55:23):
we got it. We got a first down, but we
tried to huddle and we were gonna waste too much time,
and so we kind of got out of rhythm right there.

Speaker 8 (55:29):
But thank goodness we had a time out.

Speaker 26 (55:31):
We could kind of refocus, and then we turn around
and score a touchdown to Richie right away right off
the bat. But you know, he just continues to get better.
Coach Davis and him have a great relationship. He has
a Coach Davis has a great relationship with all of
our quarterbacks, those guys, our students of the game. I've
made comment. You know, HEJ loves to watch films. He's

(55:54):
a he's a football junkie. And you know, the quarterbacks
in that room have just continue nearly gotten better. And
it was great to have Carson get a get a
majority of a half. You know, I wanted to come
out in the second half, let EJ go for the
first series, you know, with the anticipation, Hey, we're gonna
move this thing. Let's get down the field, and then
let's give Carson a chance to just run our offense.

(56:16):
I didn't want him to go in there when it
was already hey we're just gonna it be in four
minute mode. I wanted him to go in there where
he was going to have to execute make plays, be
in some third downs where we might have to throw
the wall. And it was exciting to see him have
success out there, you know, five or six and and
did a nice job.

Speaker 3 (56:32):
Yeah, the one throw he made I think turned a
few heads because he was in the process of getting sacked.
And two, if I'm about right down here and found
a way to complete he.

Speaker 26 (56:40):
Don't I joke with him a lot of times, looks
like he's turning a double play out there.

Speaker 3 (56:47):
That's exactly what it looked like. But the throw was
on target right and it worked. So conference opener Saturday night,
we talked about what Hawaii brings, and you and I'll
talk again before kickoff, But is from a football standpoint
in this game, is there a number one priority that
you feel like, hey, if we do this one thing,
we've got a really good chance of going one. And

(57:08):
oh in Mountain West play, we need to.

Speaker 26 (57:11):
Show up and start fast. You know, there's gonna be
a great buzz, great energy in the stadium. As I
men mentioned before, Hawaii's going to play unbelievably hard, you know,
especially in their in their home stadium. And we need
to be able to handle that moment, play through the moment,
play through our problems and and kind of withstand that

(57:33):
and so show up, start fast and and and we've
been the last three games we've started fast.

Speaker 8 (57:38):
I think we've we've we've scored.

Speaker 26 (57:40):
On a lot of our first series and and and
that is a that that's that's a positive. Our kids
kind of get their feet in the ground and get
comfortable that they get confident, and then all of a sudden,
now they want to get back on the field and
let's do it again, and let's fix what we didn't
do before, and and and you're seeing a lot of
growth right now in our football team. And so that
would be the biggest thing that we have to do,
both sides of the ball and special teams.

Speaker 3 (58:01):
Special teams has been impressive. Dylan Lynch is making all
his kicks, Your long snapper's been flawless. Jordan mala Ulu
is starting to show some punch in the return game.
And was there a moment Saturday that had the team
more excited than the blocked kick?

Speaker 8 (58:14):
Probably not something that we work a lot at.

Speaker 26 (58:16):
We work a ton at blocking kicks, and to see
the excitement of a guy like Roland Fullwood and Kayson
van Vu, you know, both guys that were critical pieces
of that. Jason Jacks was a big part of it.
So that been anytime you can keep points off the board,
that's huge.

Speaker 3 (58:35):
We'll see if the Dogs can do that and put
some on the board in the right direction in Hawaii Saturday, coach,
enjoy your first trip to the islands and bring home.

Speaker 8 (58:42):
A w huh it sounds like a plan.

Speaker 3 (58:44):
He's coach matt Ends. If you missed him this week,
remember there's no game next week, so we won't be here,
but the following week we'll be back for a Thursday
night five thirty to six thirty. Here at the point
on Thursday, October second. Thanks for listening tonight. This has

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
