Speaker 1 (00:02):
On the Bulldog Sports Network from Learfield. This is the
Bulldog Football Hour, brought to you by Table Mountain Casino.
Welcome to the Table. Pepsi, official soft drink of Fresno
State Athletics. See Geek, the official ticketing partner of Fresno
State Athletics, EECU Smarter Banking since nineteen thirty four, and
(00:24):
by bud Late, Easy to Drink, Easy to Enjoy. Now
live from the Point Pettio Baring Bistro. Here's your host,
the Voice of the Bulldogs, Paul Leffler.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Well, hey, the Bulldogs are one and one, a big
win at Hauled last week against Georgia's Southern and we're
back here at the Point as Fresno State gets ready
to go on the road. Twelve thirty kicks Saturday in Corvallis, Oregon,
and we're gonna spend the next hour talking about it
with the coachier Bulldogs, Matt enz as well as one
of his biggest Bulldogs on an offensive line that got
(00:58):
the job done the other night, Rolling Bulwood's going to
join us as well. We're here at the Point northwest
corner of Willow and Knees. Still have some tables open
for you. We'd love to see. We've got tickets to
give away some Kennel Marketplace gift cards you can get
the latest bulldog gear. You must be present to win,
and we'll give those away at six thirty tonight. So
come join us at the Point northwest corner of Willow
and Knees, and let's make sure the coach has a
(01:20):
proper introduction.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls, please welcome the man who
picked up not only his first victory at Valley Children's Stadium,
but also his first victory as head coach of your bulldogs,
the first of many many more.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Head Coach Madens, thank you appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
Well, we had to have Worm introduce you again. Coach.
You told us last week at the show that you
are a little superstitious, so anything that happened last week
you were going to have to duplicate this week. In fact,
that was the first thing you said in the postgame
interview the other night that the spicy chicken here at
at the point was the key to victory.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Well, I don't know if it was the key, but
it all they all had up. You know, we'll take
any any Any luck is good luck, right, Now.
Speaker 2 (02:04):
What do they put on that? That's a spicy chicken.
Speaker 4 (02:06):
I prap.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
I had them put it on a wrap, so yeah,
that they'll put it on a put in a sandwich,
probably put it on a salad.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
I think it's pretty flexible.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
So you're doing the same thing tonight, Yes, I am
all right. Your wife Brenda even said she's having the
same thing tonight.
Speaker 4 (02:20):
Well, that's good.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
The rest of the people here are not bound by
the superstition, but if you'd like to indulge, you feel free.
What did that feel like, coach, to see your team
come out in the second half and just absolutely dominate,
especially at the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
Well, it was good. It's something that we've been working for.
You know, I think there was glimpses of it even
early in the game. I mean we had, you know,
we're up, you know, ten nothing. At one point, we
had the ball twice in the red zone. Unfortunately came
away with three points. I mean I should have could have,
would us. But excited about just the energy and the
(02:56):
excitement in the locker room. You know that middle eight,
last four minutes of the second quarter, the first four
minutes of the third quarter was was really, you know,
I think it tells a lot about, you know, how
the game ended up. We got that interception Ryan Wilson,
a veteran, you know, his first career interception the senior year.
We go on a four minute drive, kick a field
goal right there, run the time out, down fourteen thirteen,
(03:20):
going in a halftime, We come out four and out,
and then we go on about a nine play drive
that took about five six minutes and finishing an end zone.
And I thought that was a maturing moment for our
football team right in there, just to you know, the
way they responded, And that's what we've been talking about.
Just cut it loose and learn from our mistakes. But
let's let's make sure the next play is the most
(03:40):
important one and the one that we're focused on.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
And he never want to make too much of one
situation or one game, but you know, I was thinking
about it afterwards. A team could have gone into the
locker room saying, man, we should be up by a
couple of scores, but we're down. Oh no, this one
might get away from us. A team that doesn't have
trust and doesn't have a lot of confidence may think
that way. But it sounds like your guys are like, hey,
(04:05):
we're better than this. All we have to do is
finish what we started, and we're going to be fine.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Exactly, just clean up the dishes.
Speaker 5 (04:11):
We can't beat ourselves and all those things that that
you know, prevented us from scoring touchdowns in the in
the first half.
Speaker 4 (04:18):
We were correctable, We controlled them.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
It wasn't anything that and Georgia Southern was a good
football team, had some talented kids, but you know, we
we were impacting ourselves negatively, and then we just needed
to clean it.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
Up and move forward. And and uh, and.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
I was excited about our guys and in the way
that they won at the end too. You know we
we I was on the sideline, We're gonna win with class,
We're gonna do it the right way. It got a
little chippy at times, and I thought our guys handled
themselves appropriately and like bulldogs should. We need to pour
energy into our own teammates and not into theirs.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
And you mentioned Ryan Wilson's interception, and I heard you
mentioned it Monday at your news conference as well as
kind of a turning point, and clearly it was, but
it also reflects another thing that I think Roland Fullwood
coming here tonight kind of backs up as well. There
are several guys on this team who've been here for
a while but are making the most of opportunities now,
(05:12):
I think with a fresh start with your coaching staff,
because it's clear to me that your staff came in
with fresh eyes and no one was defined by anything
they'd done the last three years. Did you guys? Was
that an intentional thing to say, hey, we're going to
give everyone an equal opportunity to earn some time.
Speaker 5 (05:28):
I think you have to when you're trying to come
in and earn the trust of a football team and parents,
and the slate was clean, and it was up to them.
They were gonna, you know, what they did and what
they put on film and what they did in the
weight room, and their ability to follow our standard was
(05:49):
going to be their resume going into the fall. And
not only you know, are we seeing young men that
maybe haven't played a lot in the past have great
success right now and super excited about football.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
But I think it creates depth too. I mean, Ryan, we're.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
Playing a ton of people on defense, and Ryan Wilson,
you know, is one of those young men, and he
helps us he has been. He has been traditionally a big,
huge special team guy.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
He still is.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
He gets more reps on special teams during the course
of the game than any other player we have. But
finding a role and then you know, appreciating the role
that you're in and making the most out of the
opportunities is seize the moment. You know, we talk about
that all the time.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
Speaking of Ryan Wilson and special teams. I was talking
to him the other day at practice. Did you know
that he kicked a fifty yard field goal in high school?
Speaker 4 (06:36):
I did not. I did not. Well, I'll shoot down.
Speaker 5 (06:38):
You know, you probably had the nice ocean breeze, you know,
Palace Verdes.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
You know, I bet he did. I bet he did.
What was it the the what's their nickname, the Sea King,
that's right, the Sea Kings.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Yeah. Well, so if you need an emergency kicker, he can.
He can pull that off for you too, and you
just hit on it. But I just want our fans
to understand what we're talking about here with Matt Enz,
Bulldog football coach. The Bulldog Football Hour till six thirty
at the point here on the northwest corner of Willow
and knees. We have tickets to give away and some
other prizes. So here's the guys. You said special teams
(07:11):
specialists the last few years, but you know, really three
deep at the safety position wasn't always likely to get
in there and have a chance to make a play. Here,
this is the first half of the game, a critical situation.
He not only is in there, he makes a play.
And you're doing that a lot of positions. Running back,
we're seeing you go four or five d Is that
(07:31):
a philosophical thing? Have you always done that that if
guys have a realistic opportunity to see the field and
everyone's more invested.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
I think so. I mean, I think you're exactly right
what you said.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
I mean, it happens traditionally with your defensive line, but
being able to rotate some bodies take some hits off
of people. I mean, it's a long season as well,
and so sustainability is part of it too. And so
instead of you know, individual X, Y and Z playing
sixty naps a game, they play forty. But they're able
(08:02):
to bounce back and be ready the following week. And
we're creating depth. We're building depth within our own program.
I see that as a win, I see, and you're
exactly right. You're gonna get a ton of people that
are invested now. They're gonna come to meetings ready because
they know they're gonna play. They have to know the details.
They're gonna come to practice with intent, and so you know,
I like what our coaches do and like you know,
(08:24):
sometimes it's everyone wants to play every snap, but it's
hard to do that in college football.
Speaker 2 (08:30):
It is, and it's especially tough to do that at
the quarterback position, even when you have depth. And you
talked all through fall camp about how tight that competition
was and how those guys were making themselves better. Your
two games in now with EJ. Warner at the helm,
Yea had some real impressive stretches in that game. And
you talked about this Monday a little bit. How do
(08:53):
you handle that position maybe differently than those others in
terms of making sure you don't do something that disrupts
as starters comp.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
Is Well, you know the thing I talked about with
with all those young men when we made the decision
to go with Ej. Is, you know, playing the position
of quarterback is the most competitive position that's out there.
If you just consider the West Coast teams and maybe
I'll go to the Mountain States and west there's only
twenty twenty five Division one starters when you talk about quarterbacks.
(09:22):
So it is a very competitive, very difficult spot to earn.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
And you know, because it's not a spot.
Speaker 5 (09:29):
Where you're gonna you know, hey, you're gonna get a series,
you're going to get Their continuity is is critical with
that within that position, and so I think just making
sure that we're giving them accurate and transparent information. Uh,
you know, I think that's the best way to go
about it. If I can sleep at night, our coaches
can sleep at night knowing that we're treating these young
(09:49):
men the right way, giving them accurate and you know,
timely information to know right where they sit, where they stand.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
That I think we're good, you know. I think that's
what we owe them.
Speaker 5 (09:59):
And and you know, at the same time, they need
to be able to listen and understand the coaching as well.
Speaker 2 (10:05):
And it seems like with that position, and we've got
some questions coming in about the passing game here on
on the XAP with that hashtag ask FS. If you've
got a question, you can send it that way or
you can come join us here. At the point, you
want all your players to believe in each other, and
you've really established that family mentality with the program in
your short time here. Is it different when it comes
(10:26):
to a quarterback? I mean, is it more essential or
imperative that the rest of the team believe in that
young man's leadership?
Speaker 4 (10:33):
Oh? I think so.
Speaker 5 (10:34):
I think there's there's there's weight to it. I mean,
when you're called QB one, that's not a that's not
a title that's thrown around very much like we just
talked about. And so you need those people, you need
your you know, and everyone everyone assumes that when you're
the quarterback, you're one of the best players on the team. Well,
you need your best players to be your best leaders.
At the same time, if you fully want to reach
(10:56):
your potential as a football team, and you've heard me
say it, I'll be thenumber one leader. But at some
point we're going to plateau, We're going to hit a ceiling.
If our players the Roland Fullwoods, cam brocas EJ warners,
if those guys, you know, Bryce and Donaldson, those guys
are leaders that I don't know where our ceiling is.
And we'll continue to get better on a daily basis.
Speaker 2 (11:16):
You have hit that message consistently, a player led team,
and we're seeing the results, a big forty two to
fourteen result last Saturday. This Saturday there in Corvallis, twelve thirty, kick,
ten thirty, our pre game. We're here till six thirty tonight,
So come hang out at the point. They've got the
Cowboys and Eagles on television. We're giving away tickets to
the next Bulldog home game. We're giving away Kennel Market
(11:36):
Place gift cards. And oh, by the way, you can
get anything off the menu at the point, including if
you ask real nicely, maybe the matt En Special spicy
chicken that he had last week. Come join us at
the point and we'll be right back the Bulldog Football
Hour on the Bulldog Sports Network from Deerfield.

Speaker 2 (15:09):
There were a few of those Saturday night of Valley
Children Stadium. That was a great crowd, a great night,
a great first win for coach matt Enz. He's here
with us at the Point the Point Patti O'barmbistro, northwest
corner of Willow and Knees. We're here till six thirty.
You can win prizes like tickets to the next Bulldog

for the coach, you can join us here or sentiment
on the x app with that hashtag ask fs. If
you've never been to the Point before, you're missing out.
And I just learned that on Tuesday nights they have
trivia night here Sunset Trivia at the Point from six
thirty to eight thirty. So Tim Schiller, I think that
one's calling your name trivia on Tuesday nights here at
the point you can come dominate. We've got questions coming
(15:52):
in for coach ns rolland Fullwood Bulldog right tackle is
gonna join us a little bit later on. Let's see
what we have on X here for you, coach, there's
some questions for Rolling. Here's one from Greg Lopez with
the Quarterback Club. He says, first of all, congrats on
your first win of Valley Children Stadium, and he said,
what did you think about the green V section which
(16:13):
made his debut good?
Speaker 4 (16:14):
You know, I noticed it over there.
Speaker 5 (16:16):
I knowed the big V, the flag and that they
had so it looked like there was some energy over
in that section of the field at different times. So
I think once that thing really takes off and go,
that'll be a cool addition to what it's already a
tremendous you know environment at you know, at the stadium.
Speaker 2 (16:33):
I know, you know, you've talked about your vision for
the program and the importance of funding things like nutrition,
some of the technology that can track you know, analytics
for player performance and all that. But if you had
a limitless budget. What do you think about a giant
green V that kind of lights up in the sky
(16:54):
after a win. That would be a shoot a v
end of this sky.
Speaker 5 (16:57):
That was kind of like what they had Batman exactly,
the bat signal, the V signal, the V signal.
Speaker 4 (17:04):
That would be a good idea.
Speaker 2 (17:05):
I like that if we threw up the bat signal,
our old Pro bowlpunt returner Clifton Smith might show back up.
He's a batman. John Baxter can tell you those stories.
We've got more questions coming in. Here's one. You know,
the running game stole some headlines. Three hundred and fifty
yards will do that for you. The O line played great,
but the defense was really impressive second half shut out.
(17:25):
And the guy whose name we talked about the most
was Kveon Thunderbird. And that's a question coming in from
sidelines Fresno State. On the xAPP, he said, Kveon Thunderbird
was all over the field last week. What about him
excites you the most?
Speaker 5 (17:39):
Which that exactly what he just said. He's all over
the place and is only getting better. And you know,
just the improvement I saw from week one to week
two with Kveon is is tremendous. You know, he's a
young man that a lot of us knew about because
he's a Chicago native. A lot of people had recruited
him at different times. Went to Arizona State. We have
some connections down there. He would fit in in what
(18:01):
we do from a schematic standpoint. And now you see
a young man that just the repetition's repetitions are starting
to add up, and he's starting to play faster, and
he's able to cut it loose on Saturday, and we're
excited to.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
Where he's at and and and what he brings to me.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
He's a physical He had that big knockback tackle that
that people got excited about, and so looking for more
of that as the year unfolds.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Hits like that are kind of worth more than what's
right there, aren't they?
Speaker 4 (18:27):
Right?
Speaker 2 (18:27):
Yeah, And do you guys, you know, I know, you
try to keep these guys loose, and you guys have
a friendly you know atmosphere going on. Anybody give them
a hard time for maybe having a shot at a
pick six.
Speaker 5 (18:40):
And then I'm sure in the defensive unit meeting there
might have been a you know, he got razzed by
the other linebackers or so, but hit him in a
bad spot, right in his hands.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
So that's unfortunate. But you know what, he still he
had a great game.
Speaker 5 (18:54):
And you've seen both him him Jaden Pearson both playing
really well. Logan Stunt, you know, young linebacker Titus is
getting in there, young man from right here in town.
And so we're creating depth and and those reps that
a lot of people got late in that game, you
can't you can't imagine the value they have because we're
gonna need a lean on somebody at some point. Unfortunately
(19:16):
the game, there's injuries, there's there's a whole lot of
things going on. One of those guys is gonna have
to finish a game for us at some point.
Speaker 2 (19:23):
We're talking to coach matt Ens. We're here at the
point Patti Obar and Bistro with you till six thirty
when we give away the prizes. Rolling Fullwood will be
here shortly. Here's another question for you. This one comes
from TJ Redwave on the X app. He's here tonight.
He says, congrats on the first w and his big
question for you is how big was Coach Hill's smile
(19:45):
with you?
Speaker 4 (19:46):
So he you know, he came up and found me
in the offices.
Speaker 5 (19:48):
Afterwards, we had a little get together for all of
our coaches, their families and friends that we were at
the game. And I don't think you probably know better
than I do, because he was up with you after
the game. I don't think he can get out of
there fast enough. I think he wanted to sign off immediately.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
Eric, is that true. Our engineer Eric Austlin and I
were witnessed to that Pat was like the kid that
wants to go out to recess and it's not time
for recess yet. He really wanted to get down there
and give coach and so those congression.
Speaker 4 (20:16):
He gave me, he gave me a big hugg.
Speaker 5 (20:17):
He was very, very very excited about and he comes
out to practice, he sees it.
Speaker 4 (20:22):
He knows what we're.
Speaker 5 (20:23):
Trying to build, and you know, he he's been tremendous
him and this week coach Tedford was at practice. We
had both of them at practice on Tuesday, and they
were fortunate that you know, those two, you know, legends
want to come and still continue to want to be.
Speaker 4 (20:39):
Around football and want to be around Bulldog football.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
And I think what Pat expressed on our post game show.
What he was most excited about, obviously was excited for
you to get your first win, But it wasn't just that,
it was the way it materialized, because I think what
he expressed to our listeners was it reflected your vision
for how to win here, which was a defense that
was and really dominated the second half and you absolutely
(21:03):
owned the line of scrimmage and knocked the other team
off the ball and there was nothing they could do
to stop you or get the ball back. And it
was seeing that materialize, knowing that's what you had envision
that I think really pumped them up.
Speaker 5 (21:15):
It was, you know, and and again everyone sees the
three hundred and some yards rushing, but you know, the
other I think key stat that's out there is we
gave up no sacks. We threw the ball twenty seven
times and we didn't give up a sack. And I
think that's a kudos to coach Crabtree, Coach Farns, coach Hass.
You know, those guys work unbelievably hard with our guys,
(21:35):
you know, picking up all these you know, designer blitzes
that people come up with on third down. And I
think that's that that shows growth right there in itself.
Speaker 2 (21:43):
No doubt, and I'm sure you'll have a few more
exotic blitzers throwing your way this Saturday and cor Vallas.
We'll talk about the Beavers when we come back. If
you've got a question for Coach and send it our
way on the XAP with that hashtag ask fs. Roland
Fullwood is going to be here shortly as well. We're
here at the Point The Point patio bar and Bistro,
northwest corner of Willow and n Es. Keep it here
on the Bulldog Football Hour, the Bulldog Sports Network from Leirfield.

Go dogs, three tight ends, thirteen personnel. The only wide
out his Aon's wide to the left.
Speaker 4 (25:13):
There in a gap defense Come on be.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
Comes in motion Warner and Ramirez and left right past
tar Water into the checkerboard. First career touchdown for the
young man who grew up in King's County, starred for
the San Joaquin Memorial Panthers, and now has experienced paydirt
at Valley Children Stadium.
Speaker 4 (25:31):
Where do you grow up?
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Hanford?
Speaker 4 (25:33):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (25:33):
Really, Pat Hill, he knew Brandon Ramirez was going to
score before Brandon scored. Sometimes Pat says touchdown and it
hasn't happened yet. He's that good Brandon Ramirez. That was
a pretty special moment too, there was.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
It was a local young man who has really, you know,
created a ton of value for himself. He's helping us
on special teams. He's getting his reps in the running
back room, which is highly competitive. And as you can
see how excited our sideline was when Brandon scored. It
tells you the impact he has on every single individual
or football team. And so that's what I get excited about,
(26:08):
is you know when guys who are all about servant
leadership and service and their their teammate, they score and
everyone appreciates it.
Speaker 2 (26:17):
And man, for a guy who's listed at two hundred
and twenty pounds, he gets moving pretty quick.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
He is he is.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
He is a one cut, downhill type guy, and you
better be ready to tackle him.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
I think I'd be getting out of the way and
people didn't have to get out of the way because
the tight ends were clearing the path. And I don't
know if people heard Pat reacting when I said thirteen personnel,
one running back, three tight ends, Pats that ooh, he
gets excited about that kind of stuff. Your tight ends
are playing really well in the run game.
Speaker 5 (26:44):
They are they are they are setting edges, they're getting displacement.
I think we're going to continue to incorporate them in
the past game even more as we as we continue
to you know, navigate, you know, week to week. But
I couldn't joke with them at practice. I call him
old linemen with wings. They kind of look at me sideways,
(27:05):
but Coach Farrence totally agrees. I think so, and they
got to You know, Coach Farrence has done a tremendous job.
But you know, you look at his his resume. He's
had a lot of really good tight ends play for
him in the past, and he's got these guys believing
in in the fundamentals and technique of the game, and
and they're playing at a high level.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
Yeah, that Gronk guy turned out all right, I guess
he did.
Speaker 4 (27:25):
He did.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Roland Fullwood is even bigger than Gronk and he's a
lineman with a wingspan. I don't know about wings but
we're gonna hear from Rolling in a little bit. We've
got coach Enz here with us. We're here till six
thirty giving away prizes at the end. By the way,
I also noticed here at the point that they have
some drink specials for you when the Bulldogs are playing
on game days. If the Dogs are out of town,
you can come watch them here at the point, Patti
(27:48):
Obarr and Bistro, it's about time we talk about the beavers.
And that's what Presno's finest on the EXAP wants to know.
He used that hashtag ask fs and said, of course,
congrats on the win. What concerns you about Oregon State
and how do you get your players focused going into
a hostile environment after a win at home?
Speaker 5 (28:07):
Well, you know, we we turned the page quickly on Monday.
We met Monday morning, we watched film, we made corrections,
and we got right into Oregon State, and it's easy
to see. They're very talented. Uh, you know, they have
really good players on both sides of the football. They're
well coached. Uh you know, they have a new quarterback
who transferred in. He was nine and three as a
starter last year at Duke, can make every throw. He
(28:29):
has a has a really strong arm, and so we're
gonna have to play well defensively. They have a couple
backs that compliment each other really well, and they have
some veterans coming back on the offensive line, so our
work is going to be cut out for us. And
then on you know, on on the other side of
the football. Uh, you know, they're going to be a
little bit more static than what we've seen the last
(28:50):
couple of weeks. They don't do nearly as much, but
what they do they do really well. And so that
tells me they feel comfortable. They know the problems, they
know the solutions if if you come out some new things,
and uh, they're comfortable in it. And they got some
kids that get their boundary. Safety is six two six
three two and twenty pounds. He's a sizeable will linebacker.
You know, he's the leading tackler coming back, tremendous. They
(29:12):
have a defensive vent. I think their dal line is
is probably their strongest point on defense. And so we're
gonna have to We're gonna have to play really well.
We're gonna have to play We talked about it this morning.
We have to play discipline. We've got to be ready
to play the long game. We got to make it
a four quarter game. And we just got to keep
doing what we do. And then you know, we can't
something bad is gonna happen. We can't show our weakness.
We've got to continue to move forward. The next play
(29:35):
is the most important one. And that's what we did
on last Saturday. And so I think it was that
we got our kids back in a good place. I
saw two good practices this week.
Speaker 4 (29:44):
Again.
Speaker 5 (29:45):
We you know, going on the road, like you said,
hostile environment, chainsaws, you know, buzzing everywhere we did. We
we had that in the ear of our offense all
day long or all week long. So hopefully we can
we can handle the noise and and and and handle
the crowd and as you know, appropriately when we get
up there.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
And another thing that I'm glad that you brought up
this week, because you know, football is a game of matchups,
but it's also a game of timing, and momentum exists
within the course of a game, but also within the
course of a season. And you I think gave your
team a valuable picture of maybe what Oregon State's mindset
is going to be by comparing where they are to
(30:24):
where you guys were a week ago.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
We talked about that on Monday, that you know, this
team probably feels like they're backs against the wall. They
they I'm sure they feel just like we did when
we got home from Kansas, that we did not play
to our capability. We didn't execute uh you know well enough.
We're a better football team than what we showed that night.
And I got to believe that, you know, Coach has
(30:48):
those guys believe in the same thing.
Speaker 4 (30:49):
They cow came to our.
Speaker 5 (30:50):
Place an acc school, and we did not play to
our capability, and so we have to be prepared for
a ton of energy, a ton of excitement, you know,
early in that game, and then once it settles down,
it's going to be who can execute and take advantage
of those mismatches and who makes the fewest mistakes.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
Got a lot of questions coming in for coach, and
also for Roland Fullwood, who's here now and is going
to join us in a minute. We'll get him on
with us in the next segment. Here, Coach, maybe you
can give the fans a taste of what you've appreciated
about Big and I mean Big number seventy one so
far in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (31:28):
You know what, I'm gonna tell a quick story.
Speaker 5 (31:31):
The day I got named head football coach, I'm in
the locker room with these guys and I had my.
Speaker 4 (31:36):
Phone in my hand and Roland called me.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
Out and said, hey, you haven't changed your your lock
screen yet. It's still USC And so since that day,
I remember, you know, I appreciate Roland. He's gonna keep
me in check, but he's gonna make me accountable to
the Bulldogs, and he's been tremendous I talk about you know,
a young man that in the spring, all off season
was a leader in the weight room.
Speaker 4 (32:00):
I don't know if he likes the weight room, but
he sure made it seem like he did.
Speaker 5 (32:03):
And other people were watching him, young guys, Braiden Walton.
There's a reason why Braiden Walton's playing well, and that's
because of number seventy one. He sees what it looks like.
You know, when you have your best players or your
best leaders. Again you're you're cooking with with Greece. But
you know, Saturday night, he had energy. He was all
(32:25):
about getting that w he was all about leading that
offensive line. I think he loved every minute out there.
And those guys were so excited to see those numbers
moving like a like a casino slot machine.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
You know, with the rush game. And it was it
was and they earned it.
Speaker 5 (32:40):
They they have put the time and effort in and
and I really appreciate that group of young men.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Well we'll talk about it when we come back. Rolling
Fullwood'll join us. Coach Ansel'll stick around. We're here till
six thirty. We'll give away tickets. Then we also have
some Kennel Marketplace gift cards. They have got the best
Bulldog gear in town, So you could be a big
winner tonight if you join us at the point here
till six Thirtyulldog Football Hour on the Bulldog Sports Network

Speaker 2 (36:33):
I think the guy we're about to talk to did
a little bit of that Saturday night too, Rolling Fullwood
Bulldogs fifth. Your senior right tackle is with us coach
Enswys here as well. We've got questions coming in. If
you're not here yet, you can still join us. The
point Patti o'bar and Bistro, Northwest corner Willow and Knees Roland.
Have you eaten here before? We're gonna get the headset. Well, wait,
I got to introduce them properly. That's what Matt Leeaver's here,
(36:54):
the voice of Valley Children's Stadium. Let's give this young
man a proper introduction.
Speaker 3 (36:58):
Absolutely, ladies and john boys and girls. Whether he is
protecting E. J. Warner or opening up the holes for
the running backs, please welcome offensive tackle rolland a fool who.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Now I can ask him a question now that he's
been properly introduced, and that heavy hitting question, have you
eaten here at the point before?
Speaker 22 (37:18):
I have not eaten here before first time.
Speaker 2 (37:20):
Yeah, so you took a good look at the menu. Yeah,
so they've got like good steaks and steak bites and
flatbread pizzas and pad tie and coach as his famous
spicy chicken wrap. What are you going with tonight?
Speaker 22 (37:32):
It's just a simple burger. I'm a simple guy.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
Simple guy.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
I love it. I love it.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
That's a great online answer.
Speaker 4 (37:38):
It is. I wouldn't expect anything different.
Speaker 2 (37:42):
Coach, you just talked about rolling in the first impression
that he made on you. But have you seen anyone
on your team respond better to the coaching transition than
Roland has. The way he's applied himself, the shape that
he's in, and the way he's performing on the field.
Speaker 5 (38:00):
You know, there's you know, our overall, our team did
a tremendous job. But but Roland was one of those guys.
We talked about it earlier tonight. Everyone came in, the
slates were clean, and we just started from ground zero,
and you know, show us what you got. And he
he attacked the weight room, He attacked the offseason conditioning,
he attacked, modifying his body.
Speaker 4 (38:20):
And cleaning him.
Speaker 5 (38:21):
I mean, he's he This is this is the blueprint
what we want in the future. You know, we need
to have more rolling full what's playing here at Fresno
State because this young man, you know, and then you know,
you can't measure the size of his heart. He loves
his place, he loves his teammates, and that's what makes
him such a good player.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
You can measure the size of his hands. And Roland,
when I shook your hands, I thought, man, I bet
this guy's a good basketball player. You got basketball hands.
Speaker 22 (38:45):
Yeah, I used to play basketball.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
What was your game?
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Like?
Speaker 2 (38:48):
Rebound and futbacks?
Speaker 23 (38:50):
Rebound put backs and I made a few free throws.
Rim protector, paint protector. Yeah, in that box.
Speaker 2 (38:59):
I think if I tried to back you down, you
wouldn't back down a little bit. I think I'd be
moving out toward the three point line. Growing up in
southern California, you've got a lot of brothers and sisters.
What has that done for you? To come from a
big family.
Speaker 23 (39:14):
It honestly it shaped me to be who I am,
like just being around so many different personalities like this
brother might handle this this way another one might you know,
he might do something different like my sisters like showing
me different ways to do things, and like my brother's
just teaching me how to operate. Honestly, so I feel
like that was like one of the major things that
(39:37):
like shaped me to be who I am.
Speaker 2 (39:39):
And you have eleven brothers and sisters twelve twelve?
Speaker 22 (39:43):
Yeah, all right?
Speaker 2 (39:45):
Have you ever asked your teammates if anybody has more
than that?
Speaker 23 (39:48):
I don't think anybody has one that's a whole football
team and a backup pretty much, and growing up.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Most people don't grow up saying hey, I want to
be an offensive lineman someday. Did you have some other
ideas of a position you wanted to play or a
sport you thought you'd be real good at.
Speaker 23 (40:04):
So, Honestly, all the way up until eighth grade, it
was just strictly basketball. I didn't play football at all
until eighth grade, so I thought I thought I was
going to be in an NBA. Honestly, I didn't. Until
I started playing. I was like, oh, like I can
actually do this, and I was like, okay, yeah, football
is the way to go. Basketball condition is completely different.
Speaker 2 (40:26):
Did you ever play basketball?
Speaker 4 (40:27):
Coach, I did a little bit early in my high
school career.
Speaker 2 (40:30):
Then you figured out football was a.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
Ticket fifth football was better suited for me.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Roland. You know, I want to say this the right way.
We've always seen potential in you because you're long, you
got a big reach, a big wingspan. Obviously there's some
strength to you. And I think for years we said, man,
that guy could be so good once he gets on
the field and everything clicks. And it seems like this year,
for whatever reason, things have clicked. Was that something a
(40:58):
mental shift you made? Is it something the coaching staff did?
Was it the urgency with this being your senior year?
What do you think has enabled you to get yourself
in the shape you're in now and perform the way
you're on the field.
Speaker 22 (41:10):
Uh.
Speaker 23 (41:10):
I think it had to do with everything you said, honestly,
just like everything clicking to me at the right time,
like seeing that, like you know, it's my turn to
my time seeing that, like I have to buy in,
like trusting in coach in process.
Speaker 22 (41:23):
Like I think it all just clicked at once.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
And what when you hang out with those other old linemen,
what's that like? What kind of stuff do you guys
do or talk about besides eating burgers here at the point.
Speaker 23 (41:36):
Uh, we talk about all different types of things, like
it just depends sometimes we'll most of the time we're
like getting extra work or something on the field, guys
are just joking around, Like Exponemer's always joking. Eddie's always
like doing something you would never expect, Like you're like, uhuh,
it's fun honestly, Like the guys, everybody's different, Like everybody
(42:00):
like has their own different personality.
Speaker 22 (42:02):
But Spoemer is always joking. Like you look at Spoma,
You'll just start laughing.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
And Paul, I'm gonna, I'm gonna chime in.
Speaker 5 (42:08):
I think that's what makes that room so unique and
special is you have guys like Roland, who's Southern cal
Kyson van Voot from the middle of Iowa. You have
you know, Eddie Fanua, you got just some people from
all over. Football is the melting pot sport. I mean,
you know, it brings people and we all have one
(42:29):
thing in common. We love football, and it brings people
from every walk of life, every demographic. But as long
as we have the Bulldogs in mind, then we're all
working together. And so the the continuity of that group
is fun to watch it on a daily basis.
Speaker 2 (42:43):
Well, it's gonna be a big key to success this year.
It certainly was the other night three hundred and fifty
one rushing yards behind that O line Rowland. Did it
fire you and your fellow lineman up a little bit
when you heard Coach Enz and Coach Davis the offensive coordinator,
start talking about the philosophy they wanted to put on
the grid Eyro this year.
Speaker 23 (43:03):
Most definitely, like getting the ball on the ground was
like okay, like yeah, let's do it, and you know,
like it definitely made us like very very excited.
Speaker 2 (43:14):
And coach, as you know, from the time you got
here to the you know, going into Week three against
Oregon State, can you give us a taste of the
difference in the offensive line as a whole and maybe
where you hope they're going from here?
Speaker 5 (43:29):
Well, I think, you know, the first thing that I'll
talk is in the spring and just the install all
of a sudden, the multiple schemes were running. We're running
man schemes, gap scheme zone schemes, and that takes time,
and it also takes multiple sets of fundamentals and skill
set and I think rolling those guys they are still building.
(43:50):
We're still growing in that room. And as you know, Paul,
success isn't linear. It doesn't just happen in a nice
easy line. We talk about that all the time. There's
ups and downs and and we need to handle that.
But these guys have bought in. I think they got to.
I think they really appreciate the coaching they get from
Coach Crabtree, Coach Haas, Coach Farence. We have some really
good line of scrimmage coaches that understand the importance of it.
(44:14):
You know, I don't think anyone in that room satisfied
with where we're at right now. We know we can
continue to improve. We've we've only scratched the surface of
what we can do as a unit.
Speaker 2 (44:23):
I want to get another question to you that came
in on the x app before we let you go
and zero in on Roland and you mentioned coach Farence.
I was talking to coach parents about your Roland. We'll
get to that here in a minute. This one's for
coach ands. It's from Sidelines Fresno State on the x
app and he said he used that hashtag, ask FS,
what's one thing that excites you about this Oregon State
(44:45):
matchup not just for this week, but for years to
come in the new PAC twelve. I mean, there was
a stretch late nineties early two thousands where Pat Hill
played the Beavers four out of five years, But you're
going to be playing them on an annual basis of the
PAC twelve.
Speaker 5 (44:58):
Well, I think it's a I think communities love football.
You know, I've I've done a little research. People talk about,
you know, Corpalice and Oregon State being very similar from
a mentality as Fresno State. And so I got to
believe these two universities and these two football programs will
appreciate and respect one another, and it'd probably highly contested
games here as we both start navigating the new PAC twelve.
Speaker 2 (45:22):
And this is your first trip to Oregon.
Speaker 5 (45:24):
This is I've never been to Oregon, and this will
be my first trip to Corvelence.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
All right, Oregon State twelve thirty Saturday is the kickoff
before I let you go coach anything else. You think
the Red Wave should be zeroed in on for Saturday
afternoon in terms of things that may become the difference
between a WN.
Speaker 5 (45:40):
And L Well, I think, you know, we've we've had
a good week of practice. We've emphasized all three phases,
and we've talked about, you know, at length, we need
to put that other game behind us and it's time
to move on. And we did that on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
and now tomorrow we get on a flight and a
wheels up at two o'clock. And now it's going to
come down to the execution the effort that these young
(46:01):
men put forth. And I think we've done a good job.
I like where we're at. We just need to make
sure we handle our business. The first fifteen minutes, the
first ten minutes of this game are going to be
you know, the energy, the excitement. We just need to
be able to have some poise and play the long
game and get it in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 4 (46:17):
If it's close, you know, we'll be right where we
need to be.
Speaker 2 (46:20):
Can't wait. Twelve thirty kick on Saturday pregame cover it
starts at ten thirty. Coach, enjoy that spicy chicken r.
I appreciate you, Thank you, Roland, thank you, no problem.
Coaches Coach matt ends We're gonna have more with Roland.
Fullwood is right tackle when we come back. I've got
a few questions waiting for him that have come in
from some of our listeners on the x app, but
if you've got one for him, you can send it
in as well. We're giving away the tickets at six thirty.
(46:41):

Speaker 2 (49:50):
From the thirty seven at Georgia Southern Hand It Off Again,
Arnold running letters, get sharred by Thunderbird and dropped. Whoop,
No gain, Gotta be third and seven. Simme and Harris
helped out too.
Speaker 4 (50:00):
Some thumthing going on and he was talking too.
Speaker 22 (50:02):
I like it, Oh, I love it.
Speaker 2 (50:05):
We were talking about that hit earlier with coach matt Ends.
We've got another ten minutes here with Roland Fullwood, the
right tackle for the Bulldogs, who got their first win
last Saturday at home over Georgia Southern. Now they invade
the Pacific Northwest. Corvallis, Oregon is where they'll be Saturday
twelve thirty. Kick ten thirty is when our pregame coverage
starts on the Bulldog Sports Network. One of the things
we'll do in our pregame coverage is catch up with
(50:27):
former Bulldog basketball star Scott Barnes, now the athletic director
there at OSU. Looking forward to that. Roland Fullwood told
us he played a little basketball in high school for
the Londale Cardinals. Also opened up some holes for one
of his teammates now at Fresno State, Jonathan Arseno and Roland.
I think Bulldog fans have heard that this guy could
be explosive. He's starting to get some touches with this
(50:48):
new coaching staff. What are we going to see once
he finally gets a big hole in some room to.
Speaker 22 (50:54):
Run, You'll see a flash. You'll see a flash. He's ready.
Once he gets his chance, he's going to capitalize.
Speaker 2 (51:05):
Were you the guy that would like pick him up
after a touchdown in high school?
Speaker 22 (51:08):
Most definitely? Most definitely.
Speaker 2 (51:10):
So he's still you've been doing some curls and stuff.
Just make sure you still do that.
Speaker 22 (51:14):
Yeah, oh it's really all lower body.
Speaker 2 (51:16):
But yeah, that's a good point. Yeah, sled work is
good for that. This person on the x app, I
don't understand the user name here, but the question for
you was how many pancake blocks are you aiming for
this Saturday? Is that something you think about?
Speaker 23 (51:33):
Uh, I'm not really aiming for pancake blocks. I'm really
just aiming to get my job done and make sure
that we come out with a win.
Speaker 2 (51:41):
That's a good answer. I know your coaches would appreciate
that as well. You know, speaking of coaches, I asked
coach Farens, who's the tight ends coach? Earlier this year.
I said, you know, if there was one old lineman
that you would throw the ball to in one of
those situations, you know, eligible who would it be? And
(52:02):
he said, you have you ever caught a pass in
a football game.
Speaker 22 (52:06):
I've never caught a pass in a football game.
Speaker 23 (52:09):
I went to like a few seven on seven practices
in high school, but it just wasn't for me.
Speaker 2 (52:14):
But if they drew something up for you, what do
you think.
Speaker 22 (52:16):
Oh, I'm catching it. I'm scoring because.
Speaker 2 (52:19):
I mean, you got a big wings band, you got
big hands. That should work, right, I mean that.
Speaker 23 (52:22):
Most definitely, if they throw me the ball, I will
catch it and I will score.
Speaker 2 (52:26):
All right, that sounded very definitive. If you throw the ball,
he will catch it, he will score. We didn't talk
about where you'd be on the field. You're saying you
score from anywhere. You got some moves out there too.
Speaker 23 (52:39):
My guess is it'd probably be like a goal line play,
red zone, reen zone play.
Speaker 2 (52:43):
But no, I think I'm with you there. There was
a question that came in here too on the x AP.
This is a thoughtful questions from sidelines. Fresno State says,
you've been here for a few years now, with a
few different coaches and different teams. What about this year's
team do you know that's different? It's clearly it's brought
out the best in you. What is the difference. What
(53:03):
are you taking a liking to here.
Speaker 23 (53:06):
I think the guys are just like this year, I
think the guys are coming together a lot more like
everybody's bought into the process and what coach Ens is
trying to do here. So like, I just feel like
this is a matter of us all coming together at
the right time.
Speaker 2 (53:23):
Is it different for you on game day now, knowing
that you're starting that. I mean, before we see on
special teams a lot might get in the game on
the old line occasionally, But now I mean you're out
there every play. Does that require a different level of
buying or mental engagement for you?
Speaker 23 (53:40):
You definitely have to be a lot more focused, because
like if you're not focused, then you will miss out
on something, and if you miss out on something, that
might be the play that's like breaks the game.
Speaker 22 (53:48):
You know, So it's just a lot more focused.
Speaker 2 (53:51):
There's another question that came in on social media for you.
I don't know if I want to do this to
you and put this on you, but maybe in a
minute we'll do that. I'm thinking, one, you're here for
the fifth year now, and we talked so much about football.
We talk about you know, your teammates. We talked about
your twelve siblings, your family, and your old high school
teammates and all that. But what about school. What have
(54:12):
you appreciated about the academic side at Fresno State and
what are you hoping that does for you in the future.
Speaker 8 (54:18):
Uh.
Speaker 23 (54:19):
I have one more class left and then I have
my degree in February. So that's something that I really
appreciate that, you know, I came and I got something
out of my education side of it.
Speaker 22 (54:29):
You know, after I hope to get a broadcasting job,
you know.
Speaker 2 (54:34):
Uh, oh, yeah, you know. We do have Kenny Wiggins
sometimes on our broadcast. Fact, he's going to do sidelines
in Hawaii. He was a right tackle like you, a
little left tackle too, good basketball player too. Is there
a broadcaster that maybe you appreciated growing up or you
listen to you say, yeah, I like the way that
guy sounds.
Speaker 22 (54:55):
Not really honestly, but sometimes I hear Pat Hill stuff.
It's it's pretty nice.
Speaker 2 (55:00):
I'm sure you hear a lot of Pat Hill because
if he comes to practice, there's one position group that
he zeros in on.
Speaker 22 (55:05):
Yeah, he's fired up every day.
Speaker 2 (55:08):
When you first met him, when you first got here,
did you think he was for real?
Speaker 4 (55:14):
Uh?
Speaker 23 (55:14):
Yeah, you can just tell by the way he talks,
like the way he carries hisself. Like Pat Hill's gonna
coach Pat, He's gonna tell you, He'll tell you he
doesn't care.
Speaker 2 (55:24):
I have lived out myself, my friend, and you know,
I don't want to put too much on Pat. But
you hear your coaches every day. Maybe you hear Pat
close to every day now too. Is there something where
when you hear it from a different voice, it registers
at a different level, or maybe just add some gravity
to what you've been hearing day in day out.
Speaker 23 (55:42):
I feel like now, like every from every coach, like
it just means a lot more so like everything I hear,
I process it, I think about it, and I find
a way to incorporate it into my game.
Speaker 4 (55:55):
Is there?
Speaker 2 (55:56):
I mean, we talked about maybe you catch it a
pass and we'll see if they can draw something up
for Yeah. Is there a moment on the football field
that you've kind of envisioned, whether as an individual or
for your team, that you haven't experienced yet that you're
hoping maybe this year that's gonna come together.
Speaker 23 (56:12):
I hope this year we can break like a sixty
yarder or like an eighty yarder that'll be like game changer.
Speaker 2 (56:20):
You got some guys that can scoot.
Speaker 22 (56:21):
Oh yeah, I think all of our running backs can run.
Speaker 2 (56:24):
Honestly, it's maybe the deepest running back group I've seen
here in a long time. And it's probably fun for
you guys too, because they're not like robots. It's not
like five versions of the same guy. They all have
something a little different.
Speaker 4 (56:37):
Huh.
Speaker 22 (56:37):
Yeah, they definitely do.
Speaker 23 (56:39):
Like Speedy's like, he's Speedy's fast, you know, Bryson Bryson.
I feel like Bryson has like traits of everything, Like
he's just like the balance back Brando, he'll run through anything.
Speaker 22 (56:53):
And Jonathan he has like he has a few moves.
Speaker 2 (56:57):
Yeah, and he's in the best shape of his career
that we've seen. Elijah score a lot of touchdowns in
short yardage. All right, man, you ready for the question
of the night here?
Speaker 22 (57:06):
Bring it on.
Speaker 2 (57:07):
This is from our friend Trey. This this question has
been asked before on the show. Use the hashtag ask fs.
So he followed the rules. I'm gonna ask the question.
Speaker 4 (57:17):
He wants.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
We've already established your your six', six what are you
tipping the scales at right now before The wagoo. Burger

fight an, alligator a, kangaroo or an? Ostrich pick your,
poison rolling full.
Speaker 22 (57:38):
With i'd probably fight an.
Speaker 2 (57:43):
Ostrich walk me through your your thought process.
Speaker 23 (57:46):
There so, kangaroos LIKE i just hear like they're very
strong and they can like they have, claws SO i
wouldn't want to deal with. That and alligators are like
bite powers, crazy so if they bite, you.
Speaker 22 (57:58):
It's it's it's over.
Speaker 23 (58:00):

strangle him or.
Speaker 2 (58:05):
Something, Okay, yeah would you like jump on its?
Speaker 4 (58:09):

some wrestling moves on him or. Something, yeah he looks.

Speaker 2 (59:13):
