Days and Epic Nights, and by Pepsi, official soft drink

you barring Pistro. Here's your host, the Voice of the Bulldogs,
Paul Leffler.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Heresy is an edition of this program. Not gonna be
with you next week. It's the holidays, It's Thanksgiving, and
we want you to be with your family next Wednesday night,
bus we might have a Bulldog basketball. We are gonna
have a Bulldog basketball broadcast that night. We've got a
Bulldog basketball broadcast tonight, seven o'clock tip at the Save
Mart Center. All high school students get in free. So

(01:01):
whether you go to Clovis, you can in Fresno, Roosevelt
Fowler High anybody you know, anyone who goes to Fowler
High around here?

Speaker 4 (01:11):
What was your high school coach? Skip Mounible High School,
New Orleans, Louisiana.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
So if there were someone here from your alma mater.
They could get in free at Saint Mart's Center. Definitely
could now. So he is coach Tim Skipper, and that's
the reason we don't have the proper introduction to you
tonight with our friend Matt Leeaver. He's already the same
art center getting ready to announce the public address tonight.
I'll be there shortly and hope we see a lot
of you there as well. Made me wonder though, coach,

(01:38):
before we get into senior night for you and this
huge opportunity seven thirty Saturday night against Colorado State. When
you were a Bulldog football player, there were some pretty
good basketball players at Fresno State.

Speaker 4 (01:53):
Big time. Do you remember.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Do you have a special Bulldog basketball memory from your
time playing football Fresno State?

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Uh?

Speaker 5 (02:03):
I actually enjoyed selling arena, So going out there, you know,
and it was packed in there. It was wild, it
was crazy. So that was that was a fun part.

Speaker 6 (02:14):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (02:15):
Coach Tark he would come to football games also, so
getting to like be by him on the plane or
in the hotel was really really cool. I see why
all the players loved him. He was awesome.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
He treated us like we were one of those players.
So it was great.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Uh, just to be able to talk to a legend
like that, it was just awesome at that age.

Speaker 4 (02:33):
So that part was good.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
And then just seeing those guys in the in the
weight room. We'd interact all the time, like, uh, you
know you're going Chris Herron, you know Corny Alexander, you're
just Melvin Eli. Me and Alvin were the same major,
so we had a lot of classes together. Just different
things keep hitting my mind. That's the stuff for the radio.

Speaker 3 (02:53):
Yeah, I'm sure you triggered a lot of memories for
other people too. And you know, as soon as you
mentioned coach tark first thing it came to mind, who
was the passing of his wife.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
Lois this week?

Speaker 3 (03:02):
So our hearts go out to the Tarkanian family as
they more in another tremendous loss there. And Lois's granddaughter
is on campus as a student athlete now at Fresno State.
Tark's granddaughter as well, so did not know that that
legacy continues. So we're talking a little bit of basketball
because there is a basketball game tonight Coach Walberg and
company hosting Prairie View A and M. Again, any high

(03:24):
school student from any high school gets in free tonight,
just you show your student ID there at the Save
Marts Center. Because of that, we're going to spend about
the first forty five minutes talking football, then the last
fifteen minutes of this hour talking basketball to get you
ready for that seven o'clock tip, which you can hear
right on these same radio stations and simulcast on the
Mountain West Network with our friends Coach Mark H. Jones

(03:45):
and Taylor Martinez. Tonight, our Bulldog Football Hour. It's brought
to you by American Pistachio Growers, powering the Valley one
not at a time. We thank the American Pistachio Growers
for their continued supporter of Fresno State Athletics and for
being the presenting sponsor of our show. You had the
bye week, Coach, and we talked about it, you know,
after the Air Force game. What you were hoping to

(04:07):
have accomplished during the bye week. What did you get
accomplished during the bye week, and what have you seen
from your guys the last couple of days back in practice.

Speaker 5 (04:15):
Like a typical bye week, we want to get healthy,
so I think we achieved that.

Speaker 4 (04:20):
The other thing we wanted to do coming off that
Air Force game.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
We wanted to get a little bit more physical, wanted
to get our personality back displayed, and it starts at practice.
So from that Air Force game, a dive hit us
a little too much, so we put the pads on
Thursday and we got after it a little bit. We
also had a scrimmage with the younger guys the in practice,
so there was some plastic flying around.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
And then now we're working into.

Speaker 5 (04:44):
This week in a typical work week, and the physicality
part is over. Now we did that yesterday and today.
Now it's all the mental taken over and then we
have to go play.

Speaker 3 (04:54):
So this reference may be out of left field for
some people, but for anybody who played for Pat Hill,
they'll they'll get it. Sounds like you had yourself like
an old school Sunday night scrimmage with the young guys.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
Yeah, yep, yep.

Speaker 5 (05:06):
It was similar similar, just not as many plays as
we would do with that, but it was very similar.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
Well.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
And as we continue our practice update presented by Pepsi,
the official soft drink of Fresno State Athletics. Talking to
coach Tim Skipper here at the Point Patiobar and Bistro,
Northwest Corner willow and knees. We will kind of come
join us tonight, eat some great food, get whatever you
want to drink. I'm drinking coffee and it's really good
here at the point in case you ever hankering for
a good cup of coffee. How have you seen the
guys respond to that challenge that you laid down to

(05:37):
be more physical and be ready to bring that physicality
to a Colorado State team Saturday night that's unbeaten in
conference right now at five and zero.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:45):
To be honest with you, I think Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
of the bye week, we were kind of feeling sorry
for ourselves and trying to figure things out.

Speaker 4 (05:54):
I think Wednesday was a good practice to get out there.

Speaker 5 (05:56):
We didn't go at any paths, we just moved around
and started to get going. But once we went to Thursday,
which got really physical, our minds started triggering into what
we need to do for this week. So the guys
are in a good headspace right now. I like the
way we're practicing this week. They know what's at stake.
We need one more win to get a bull eligible,
so we're focused on that and that's our goal and

(06:17):
we're gonna be attack, Attack, Attack, that's the motto.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
Yeah, I think we can clap for that.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
We're talking to coach Tim Skipper here the Bulldog Football
Hour at the Point Patio bart and Bistro. One last
home game Saturday night, seven thirty the kick against Colorado State.

Speaker 4 (06:32):
And I know you got a.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
Few other priorities, but did you hear that a bunch
of year old teammates from that nineteen ninety nine Wax
championship team are gonna be on hands Saturday night?

Speaker 4 (06:40):
Yes? I did a couple of them. That hit me up.

Speaker 5 (06:43):
But what's funny is, I don't know some people don't
realize that I was on that team.

Speaker 4 (06:48):
So people are telling.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
Me it's gonna be a lot of alumni coming back
for this ninety nine team.

Speaker 4 (06:53):
And no, no, no, no, no, I'm.

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Like, I'm part of that. So I know I have
duties that night, but I am part of that team.
It'll be great to see those guys.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
Maybe you can, you know, unhook from the headset for
thirty seconds, run to the south end zone and snap
a picture with those guys.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
Yeah, I'm gonna try to do that. See how's going.
We'll time your forty Yeah, I don't do that. He's
coach Tim.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Skipper, always a good sport with the Bulldogs and coach.
You know, I don't think I've asked you this, but
everybody notices this about you. You're always smiling, I mean
always smiling. I try, we never if we try to
get you to not smile, you still smile. So a
couple things on that note, Hey, have you always been
that way? Like since day one? I flip a switch.

(07:37):
I'ma flip the switch type guy, so yeah.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
Yeah, there's no way I was smiling when I was playing.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
But obviously I get excited when plays happen, things go well.
But I'm a glass half full type person, so I'm
always thinking of the positive things and the next thing
that's gonna be real great. I'm not a's a rainy
day and be sad type of guy, So that's not me.

Speaker 4 (07:56):
It's not in my nature.

Speaker 5 (07:57):
So I'm always trying to think positive and how be thoughts.

Speaker 4 (08:01):
But I'm not always that way.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
Well, and that was the question, because you know, maybe
not everyone would accuse me of this, but some people
have said something similar about me, and they think that
I'm in denial about you know, some tough circumstances, right,
how can you be smiling if this was going on
and that's going on, and you've gone through a real
tough stretch here where you know, the fourth quarter of
Hawaii through the Air Force game, they weren't the results

(08:26):
you wanted.

Speaker 4 (08:26):
You had a chance to get both eligible, it didn't happen.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Do you do you ever have to catch yourself to
you know, even though you're positive, maybe your players, your
coaches or whatever don't think that you're serious enough because
you're smiling too big.

Speaker 5 (08:41):
Yeah, I think if you were in our meetings after
games when it's tough like that, you might think a
little different because you know, like I said, there's a
light switch to flip on and off. But I'm also
we got to move on. You can't get stuck in
the mud. You can't be in seement. You have to
move on. And if you as a leader look like
you're not you don't have answers or you're not positive,

(09:04):
then everybody else is gonna be that way and we're
gonna be stuck. So I'm always thinking, what's the next
best thing that's gonna happen, what's gonna happen, what's gonna happen.
So in my mind right now, we're gonna go out
there Saturday. We gotta get this win and then we're
for eligible. That's what I'm thinking right now.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
I like the way you're thinking. I think a lot
of the Red Waivers do too.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
And I do want to take some time tonight to
talk to you about some of these seniors. Sixteen seniors
are gonna participate. Who's hiding over there? Is that Paris
gangs hanging over there? Is that some facial hair on
Paris's face? I don't think I've ever.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
Seen that on his face. Wow, maybe a little bit
nineteen ninety nine. We're just talking about that. That's right.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
So, and you had to collide with that guy in
the hole, didn't you a lot of times?

Speaker 4 (09:44):
A lot of times. I think he would agree we
made each other better. It's really good.

Speaker 3 (09:49):
I think we may have to pull them up here
for a couple of minutes to tell a couple of
stories on Coach Skip, if Coach Skip allows. So I
do want to talk to you about those seniors when
we can come back from this next brak. But before that,
you just hit on, you know, bowl eligibility. Obviously, that's
a big goal. There's still some other goals out in
front of this team. I mean, you can have a
winning record in the regular season, you could beat Ucla

(10:11):
for a fifth straight time, and one Bulldog fan brought
to my attention something that's still in front of this team.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
I'm not trying to distract you from Saturday night.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
I promise, Coach, But Fresno State never ever, ever has
had four straight seasons that ended in a bowl victory.
And you took over last year and led the Bulldogs
to a bowl victory in that New Mexico Bowl to
make it three in a row. Back in the early
two thousands when Coach Hill had it rolling, you know,
you had two against Georgia tech O, three, beat Uclah, four,

(10:40):
the overtime thriller against Virginia that Steven Spock.

Speaker 4 (10:42):
Will forever be alleged for.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
But then five after that sc game there was the
slide and they didn't beat Tulsa in the Liberty Ball,
so that was a big chance to do it. But
if you guys get to a bowl game and win
a bowl game this year, you'll make that Fresno State
history four years in a row winning a bowl game.

Speaker 4 (10:58):
Never ever knew that. So that's that's in.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
I would love to have that challenge, I will say that.
So that's that's an incentive. I might use that one.
All right, just add it to the list. They growing list,
exactly right. So let's wrap up this part of the
show right here.

Speaker 3 (11:12):
In light of what you just shared with I just
threw at you everything that's swirling around the game. What's
the number one thing that you want your team zeroed
in on focused on when you come down that ramp
Saturday night for a seven thirty kick.

Speaker 4 (11:25):
It's easy.

Speaker 5 (11:25):
Attack, attack, attack, attack, attack, attack, put all the chips
in the middle of the table and go get it.
Just be on the attack the entire game. That's bringing physicality,
that's protecting the ball. But do all of that being
very aggressive and attack, attack, attack. You want to attack,
you want to attack. Just want to get that straight. Yeah,
I want to go forward, Yes, tack, attack, attack.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Well, when we come back, we'll talk about your opponent
Colorado State, talk about some of your Bulldog seniors. Maybe
we'll get a cameo from your old teammate Paris Games.
You know he's a smiley guy too. I don't know
who has a bigger smile. You were a Paris game,
You've got it. I think you had the top two
on that team though, for sure, definitely make play as
you can smile. You definitely had Billy Bullock b Billy.

(12:09):
I hope you're listening, and we hope you're all coming
to the Point Patio Bar and Bistro. It's the Bulldog
Football Hour till we segue till basketball toward the top
or towards the Yeah, toward the top of the hour.
It's a seven o'clock tip at the same mart Center tonight.
Hope to see you there, but come join us here
first at the Point, Patiobar and Bistro. It's the Bulldog

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Welcome back to the Bulldog Football Hour here at the
Point Pattiobar and Bistro. We've had some great Wednesday evenings
out here this year and thanks to everybody who's supported
the program and come to support the team. You've met
a lot of student athletes, you've heard from Coach Skipper,
and we do hope to have a chance to do
one more of these programs before a bowl game. But
that means the Bulldogs have to get ball eligible and
they're going to try to do that Saturday night against

(15:57):
a Colorado State program that's bull eligible for the first
time in seven years. Actually, there's seven and three, five
and zero in conference play. We'll talk about the Rams
in a moment, but got a roll with it out
here at the point Pattiobarbistro, and we saw not one,
but actually two of Tim Skipper's old teammates on that
nineteen ninety nine WHAC championship team that's going to be
honored at Valley Children Stadium Saturday night, that seven thirty.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Kick the center.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Mike Stovall is here in a thousand yard running back.
Paris Gains is here. Coach Skip, let's start with you
before we let Paris fire away. What's your best Paris
Gains memory from your time together.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
At SSNo State. Goodness, you know what, this is a
true story.

Speaker 5 (16:36):
Before we started a training camp, I was watching some
goal line stuff and on defense we do a lot
of stuff we did when I.

Speaker 4 (16:42):
Was a player. So we have a cut up where
we're actually playing. It's nineteen ninety nine. We're on the practice.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
Field and it was goal line and you were running inside.
We all fit and then you bounced it out and
beat us all to the pylon. So I saw a
big due wearing number one went to the pylon. So
that's my Paris gain. That's hitting me right now.

Speaker 4 (17:02):
See that was the thing with him.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
They saw the width of his shoulders, they saw that
million dollar smile with those big white cheek balls. They thought,
now that's a power guy, not a speed guy. In
Paris that I'm both of.

Speaker 4 (17:11):
Them, Yep, a little bit of both, a little bit
of both. So now let's go back to you, Paris.

Speaker 3 (17:15):
What what do you remember about that middle linebacker wearing
number fifty one.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
No, it's passion, you know. You can't.

Speaker 13 (17:23):
You can't talk about Tim Skipper without talking about his passion.
A guy undersize for the position, but the way he led,
he was always the smartest guy on the field. And uh,
in practice, I can't lie. I wanted to destroy him.
I wanted to destroy him in practice. Right, he was
a focal point of that defense and it was a
great defense.

Speaker 2 (17:43):
But his passion is undeniable.

Speaker 13 (17:45):
His love for the game, you could see it back then,
and he was just a leader like he is now.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
So yeah, that's my Tim Skipper store. I like it. Man.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
You guys are making me feel really old right now,
because I'm thinking that's twenty five years ago.

Speaker 13 (18:01):
Yeah, and it feels like it just happened yesterday, Like
Tim just described, I remember those practice those long practices.
I remember the three of day practices. Right, come on out.
We had a special teams practice in between the toy
Day practices, right, and talk about a great group of
a group of guys. Right, keep in contact with Mike
Stovall and a lot of the guys who still live
in the community. And it was just a great team,

(18:22):
a great group of guys that all came together to
achieve a goal. We fell a little bit short of
that goal later, but the ninety nine team is very special.
Is a very special group of guys.

Speaker 4 (18:32):
Now, when you say later, are you talking about two
thousand and one?

Speaker 2 (18:35):
That's what I'm talking about. That's what I'm talking about.

Speaker 3 (18:38):
Yeah, somebody else brought that one up the other night too.
Someoney just mentioned the name Ryan did Weddy?

Speaker 4 (18:42):
I said, why'd you have to do that?

Speaker 2 (18:43):
Oh?

Speaker 13 (18:43):
Come on, yeah, come on, I don't like the color
blue for a reason. Okay, and I.

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Just accident.

Speaker 12 (18:51):
You did.

Speaker 4 (18:52):
This is Syracuse colors, not Boise State.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
I promise, Parish, I appreciate that.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
I want to come back to you in a minute,
O Paris, but skip. Let's talk about the trip ahead.
Brought to you by Golden Eagle charter the preferred motor
coach and Executive Transportation Service a Presno State Athletics. That
trip's going to be right down to Jim Sweeney Field
at Valley Children Stadium. Short for you, long one for
the Rams, this Colorado State team. A lot of people
didn't see him coming this year. They didn't realize the
Rams had seven home games, had a favorable schedule. They

(19:22):
opened up, got beat pretty good by Texas, but that
may be toughened them up a little bit. They've played
really well since then, certainly played well enough to win
five straight conference games.

Speaker 4 (19:33):
Last year, they threw the ball a whole lot.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
And then when Tory Horton, who man, I wish we
could see Tory play. I'm sure you're relieved you don't
have to deal with that player, But for the person,
we feel for Tory Horton, a Valley guy who's just
tremendous and was on his way to being the Mountain
West all time leading receiver. They've changed things up since
his injury, right, they don't throw the ball quite as much.
What's the biggest thing that you've seen on film from

(19:56):
Colorado State? This new version of Jay Norvell's Rams, so
you're gearing up four on Saturday night.

Speaker 5 (20:01):
Yeah, so they were air raid teams, so they were
throwing it all over the yard and all the four
wides and all that stuff.

Speaker 4 (20:07):
Well, he gets hurt.

Speaker 5 (20:08):
And they have a really good offensive line and two
really good running backs, even the three really because the
third string guy is really good also.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
So they are now pounding the rock.

Speaker 5 (20:16):
They're running inside zone as many times as they possibly can,
and if it's there, they just hit it. And if
you cut it off, they're gonna cut it back. And
they're just gonna keep doing it, doing it, doing it,
and they hope somebody taps out. That's what they want
to do. And their ball control controlling the clock and
they throw it when they have to. But they're really
really good at is calling trick plays.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
They do a great job of it. It's like they
always right.

Speaker 5 (20:37):
When you forget it, you could actually run a trick play,
they run a trick play. So they do a great job.
It's always effective. So we're gonna have to be ready
for that. And like anytime, you can't sit there and
wait for trick plays. You have to respond and react
to it. So we'll have to respond and react to
those trick plays, but they are pounding the rock with
a very big old line like it was when I played,
and we are gonna have to be stout in the
trenches and knock people backwards.

Speaker 4 (20:58):
That's why it's attack, attack, attack, we have to do
that sounds like a plan to me.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
You mentioned trick plays, and since we have your old
teammate Paris Game sitting here, I've got to ask him, Paris,
was there a trick play you were always hoping that
Coach Hill and Coach Ludwig would let you run that
They never did.

Speaker 13 (21:13):
I mean I would have to say like a half
back toss pass or something like that. I was never
wanted to throw the football. I preferred running it, but yeah,
I always want to throw the football.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
You know.

Speaker 13 (21:23):
It never came up in a meeting, but yeah, I
would say I would say, toss pass to Rodney Wright
for a touchdown.

Speaker 4 (21:32):
Coach Skip, Pat, do you think that would have gone down? Awesome? Awesome?
I know Rodney would have caught it.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
I'm a little like, if the throw would get there,
it's got diplomatic.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Yeah, I know. He's always been that way. He's always
been away.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
And Skip, I got a question for you about Colorado State,
But what more with Paris here? Since he's here, and
we'll let him enjoy the rest of the show once
we get to a commercial. But well, maybe he's enjoying
this too. Here's that possibility.

Speaker 4 (21:57):
You know, the crazy thing I say, that's twenty five
years ago.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
That's the thing. A lot of you guys from those teams.
Now you have kids, right, Mike Stovall's here tonight. He's
got a son playing junior college football, son playing high
school football. You know, a sen's son is going to
be going to Alabama and kicking and punting there for
our old friend Kaylin. Now you've got a couple sons
that are playing some ball in different ways.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
Huh I do.

Speaker 13 (22:18):
My oldest son, Darien Gaines, is at Central Washington University.
Go see woo their number twenty five in the country.
Right now, they're gonna play Western Colorado in the first
round of the D two playoffs. So my youngest son,
Devin Gaines, attends Fresnol Christian High School. Seventeen year old
basketball player, volleyball guy just loves the Lord and.

Speaker 2 (22:38):
I couldn't be more blessed.

Speaker 4 (22:40):
So he can dunct better than you can I.

Speaker 13 (22:42):
Yes, yes, that is certifiably Yes, he is a much
better Actually he he might be the best athlete in
the family. Don't tell my daughter who played Division one
soccer at cal Baptist so but he might be the
best athlete in the family.

Speaker 4 (22:56):
And he's playing at the Satin Mart Center this weekend.

Speaker 13 (22:58):
Yes, he is Savemart Center against Redwood High School at
ten am. Come on out and enjoy some great high
school basketball.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
Yeah, there's a high school basketball showcase all day Saturday
at the same Mart Center. Bulldog football Saturday night Valley
Children Stadium.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
We got Bulldog.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
Basketball at the same Mart Center tonight, seven o'clock tip
against Perry View A and m SO coach Skip and
if you want to say anything else about Paris before
we let him go, feel free. But it occurred to
me as you were talking about Colorado State and the
way they change their offense and how they're trying to
play now that you spent some time in Fort Collins
with another former Bulldog assistant coach, former offensive coordinator Jim

(23:33):
Mclawaine had John his staff there, so I'm sure you
got a feel for the program. It's history, the pride
that exists in that community for the Green and Gold.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
Definitely.

Speaker 5 (23:43):
They just played Wyoming, which is their biggest rival and
it's the longest going robbery in our conference right now,
so I know that was a big game for them.
It always was always is thing I really remember about
there is playing physical football and then being very very
very very cold. So getting them to come out here,
be a little rain, got the red wave in the stadium.

Speaker 4 (24:06):
We're gonna need all of that to start a new robbery.

Speaker 5 (24:09):
So just excited, ready to go, ready to go play
Bulldog football and let the ships as fall as they may.

Speaker 4 (24:17):
That sounds like a plan.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
One last question about that rivalry with Wyom Engince you
talked about it. They just played it this last weekend.
And that trophy. Tell everybody what that trophy is, and
it's a bronze boot. So it's a bronze boot that
was actually worn and they bronze it, which I learned about.
And then the rotcs from each school they jog from
their schools and meet up in the middle and it's
pretty cool. They shake hands and all that stuff and

(24:40):
then they go on back. So it's a real robbery.

Speaker 2 (24:43):
It's a real deal.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
So Fresno State has some trophies, right, the milk can
with Boise State, and the v with San Jose State,
and the old oil can with San Diego State.

Speaker 4 (24:53):
And I've kidded around that.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
You know you could drink something out of the old
oil can, milk water, whatever. And you confirm nor deny
ever sipping anything out of that bronze boot.

Speaker 5 (25:03):
No, it's kind of you can't really quit anything inside
the boot, so you can't do anything but lift it up.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
There's no trap door or anything. No, there's nothing to it.

Speaker 13 (25:11):
When we get this win, yeah, he needs to drink
something out of that boot. Okay, when we get the win, yes, don't.

Speaker 4 (25:20):
Colorado cent Trio come bring it.

Speaker 3 (25:22):
Well, it's time for another break here at the Point
Patio Bar and Bistro.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
Paris, thanks for jumping on man. Great to see you.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
Great to be seeing. Great to see whether former.

Speaker 4 (25:29):
Bulldog Paris gains in the house.

Speaker 3 (25:30):

that ninety nine title team will be at Valley Children
Stadium Saturday night. We hope you're there as well. That's
a seven thirty kick on Saturday. Just a few tickets left.

We're here at the Point Patiobar and Bistro in about

basketball talk because Fresno State has a basketball game tonight
that's a seven o'clock tip at the Same Mart Center against.

Prairie View A and M.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
And if you're a high school student, you don't have
to be a student athlete, just a high school student.
Maybe you're in the band, maybe you're on a cheer
like my daughters did in high school. Maybe you know,
you just go to class and do your work. But
if you're a high school student at any high school,
you can get in free at the Save Mart Center
tonight with a student I d our Bulldog Football Hour
Tonight brought to you by Bulldog Bread, the official nil
collective of Fresno State Athletics.

Speaker 4 (29:44):
Who support student athletes.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Visit Bulldog Bread our ead dot com and we also
want to thank thirty two below Ice, the official ice
provider of Fresno State Athletics. We're here with coach Tim Skipper.
He's got a big one Saturday night, seven thirty kick
against Colorado State, have a chance to put a dent
in Colorado State's Mountain West Championship game hopes and more importantly,

(30:06):
become Bowl eligible. And it's also the last game at
Valley Children Stadium for sixteen Bulldog seniors. Maybe more than that,
but sixteen we know for sure are going to be
out of eligibility. I'm sure you've thought a lot about
how to send those guys off and what you're going
to talk about with them before the game Saturday, coach,
But for this group of guys, guys who helped you

(30:29):
win that Bowl game last year to put a better
taste in everyone's mouth for an entire offseason, Guys who
helped to win some big games earlier this season, and
guys you've just known for a while, especially those linebackers
like Malachai Langley and Stevie Namura and Tyler Mellow and
Steven Scheite. You were their position coach last year. Can
you help us understand what this group of seniors means

(30:50):
to you personally.

Speaker 5 (30:52):
Man, they mean a lot. You took me back to
that Bowl game last year. I mean we sait sat
in the room there and get it done. To go
over go through something like that, Man, that was huge.
I think about for these guys as all the sacrifices
they do. I mean, you have workouts and wake ups
at six.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
Am and go all day and then.

Speaker 5 (31:11):
You have to take care of business in the classroom
where we have over a three point zero team GPA.
Most of those guys already have their degrees, a lot
of them almost have their masters done, so just to
grind and the sacrifice that's three hundred and sixty five days.
Like even the summertime when everybody's going on vacations and stuff,
these guys are working out in that Valley heat and

(31:32):
getting better and getting bigger, faster, stronger. So I just
think of the sacrifices that put them in position to
where they are today and to be able to enjoy
this game on Saturday. It's their one last shot in
the Valley Children's Stadium and to go out there and
really enjoy the reward.

Speaker 4 (31:52):
They get for all the sacrifices they've done.

Speaker 3 (31:57):
So it's the last time for those sixteen seniors, but
it's also the last chance this year for the Red Wave.
And we haven't seen attendance numbers consistently like we've seen
through five home games in twenty twenty four since you.

Speaker 4 (32:12):
Were playing that fresh those dates.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
Is the tail end of your career, then what has
that meant to you, your coaches, your players.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
To feel that energy and to see those seats full.

Speaker 5 (32:23):
Man, it's awesome, it's awesome, and like I always say,
we feel that energy.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
It's electric.

Speaker 5 (32:27):
So I doesn't want to say a big thank you
to the Red Wave and everybody supports us and everybody
that comes into games. It is huge. It's awesome. Let's
keep it rolling and let's end this season on the right.

Speaker 3 (32:38):
No would win, you know, I mentioned those linebackers who
were seniors. Got a couple of stalwarts on the D line,
Kavika bam Gartner who's been out here for the show
with us, Devo Bridges who's been out here on the
patio at the point with us as well. And I
look at that secondary cam Lockridge, Cosey Agina an unsung hero,
and Dean Clark and Dean wasn't able to go at

(32:58):
Air Force, but he's good to go for this last
home game against Colorado State.

Speaker 5 (33:02):
Yeah, so he uh, he warmed up, but he couldn't
push off and he couldn't run, so he couldn't go
in the games.

Speaker 4 (33:09):
So he had to take the pads off and watch
that thing.

Speaker 5 (33:12):
But he got healthy last week during the bye week,
and then he's been practicing all this week. So knock
on wood, everything goes all right tomorrow on Friday, and
he'll be ready to roll on Saturday.

Speaker 3 (33:24):
Another one of those seniors playing his last game is
a guy who was here with us not too long
ago at the point, whose grandparents are here tonight, Jake Boust.
It'll be his senior night on Saturday night.

Speaker 4 (33:35):
Tight end.

Speaker 3 (33:35):
And how about that O line group, Man, you think
of everything that Mosse Baval and Os Marvelez and Braylan
Nelson have poured in, not to mention Daniel Tomololo and
kings le Ugu a couple other seniors on that offensive line,
and you really need those guys on Saturday night to
perform well, don't you? If you want to balance out
that time of possession a little better?

Speaker 4 (33:55):
Absolutely, absolutely. We're gonna have to win these trenches.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
It's gonna be a battle in there, the big bodies
on each other, and we've got to move those guys
back and we have to get some first.

Speaker 4 (34:04):
Downs on that ground.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
There's another senior I didn't mention yet that I want
to ask you about. When we come back a few
more minutes with Coach Skipper here at the Point, Pattiobar
and Bistro, then we'll switch into basketball mode and hope
you can join us at the Save mart Center tonight
seven o'clock tip against Prairie View A and M. Coach
Q's already there. Taylor Martinez is there and if you're
a high school student, make your way there.

Speaker 4 (34:23):
You get in free. Tonight we're here

Speaker 3 (34:25):
