Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome into the Carolina Podcast Network. It is Trevor and
Caitlin and we are so excited today to be talking
with Amy Finney, the owner and founder of Unleashed the
Dog and Cat Store. Amy, Welcome, Thanks for having me.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
It's great to be here.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
We're talking about a big event that's coming up. So
why don't you tell us about the Spring Fling Annual
Dog and Cat Fundraiser.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Well, it's a huge way to celebrate animals and spring
and get together with our community outside of our stores.
So we actually have it offsite away from our stores,
and we invite vendors and rescue groups and so we'll
have forty rescue groups and nonprofits coming. We have over
forty vendors that will be there, and so it's a
great time for everyone to come shop at some local

(00:42):
craftsmen that make things, and then also have sponsors that
give away samples and food trucks of course, and two
live bands that are both local as well on the
main stage. Because it's at Coca booth Amphitheater.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
Now, this seems like a huge undertaking, all the vendors,
the live music. How much planning goes into this, Like
how far in advance. Are you planning and what made
you want to.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Take this on?

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Well Man, Basically, as soon as we clean up from
one year, we're starting to talk about the next year already.
We work out the data as soon as we can
and get going. It is a lot to do. Ye Also,
because we're very focused on our local community that we
make sure that we give every single vendor and rescue
a shout out and a blog post on the website
on social media. So we're kind of drowning in that

(01:26):
right now, but it's great. We want to spread awareness
about there's so many local rescue groups that are doing
such an amazing job of saving animals, and we really
want to spread the awareness We do have like the
shelter that will come as well, but a lot of
people only know of that, and we want to show
them there's so many groups that they can volunteer with
and that they can help, and so we do try
to get the awareness going as much as we can.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
And by the way, this is coming up. This is Sunday,
April thirteenth, noon to six. And you said it's a
Coca booth, it is, so if you want to attend
the Spring Fling Annual Dog and Cap fundraiser April thirteenth
noon to where can people get more info? And it's
a free event, right, You don't have to buy tickets.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
So the event itself is totally free to come and
walk around and enjoy the music and bounce houses and
all of that is free. We do have some fundraisers
to help raise money for the groups that are in attendance,
and our biggest one is the Doggy Easter egg Hunt.
Will we are stuffing thousands of eggs with prize slips,
and then when you collect the eggs, that is for

(02:26):
a donation, but you get some amazing prizes from all
of our sponsors and it's totally worth it your dog
gets or cat. Also, you don't have to bring the
dog to do the egg hunt. You can do it
yourself for your animal, or you can have your kids
do it. And it is the week before Easter, so
it's perfect timing. But you can take home so many
awesome prizes from our sponsors who are all amazing, and

(02:48):
so that part is a small donation. Everything else is free.
The website, we actually made our own separate website for
the event and it's the letter K the number nine
Spring Fleeing dot com, Canine Springfling dot com and it
also has its own social media Facebook, Instagram. So we're
all over.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I thought you were gonna tell me that's the Easter
eggs were filled with like catnip or something.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
My cat would be in there. So cats and dogs
can come to the event.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Absolutely yes, and if they're not, you know, we love
to have the dogs and cats, sometimes cats or sometimes
we've had we've had a snake, We've had a goat.
Like we get some other animals too. It's fun. Mostly
dogs come, but if you can't bring your dog, we
understand that. So we will have plenty for you to
do without the dog as well.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
You ever get any cats in strollers that show up?
Oh yeah, and I feel like Caitlin you would do that.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
I absolutely do you have a stroller. I do have
a cat shower. Yeah that's awesome. No, me and my
cat go everywhere together. I love him.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
You'll even see, like on some of the website, we
had cats out there for adoption last year too, so
you can add another to your stroller.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
See your cat. Your cat needs a cat friend, So
go to the Canine Spring Fling and get your cat
a cat friend, and.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
I saw if people can't make it to the event
but they want to donate, still, can they do that?

Speaker 2 (04:06):
Absolutely? Our website has or the Sprinkling website has a
spot where you can just do a cash donation. We
also we do lots and lots of raffle baskets at
the event, but we do make the grand prize raffle
basket available to people who can't come to the event.
They can still buy raffle tickets. We will enter them
and they can win the big grand prize basket too.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
Gotcha.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
So I have a question. Actually, because I have a
dog and a cat, I am more of a dog person.
My husband's more of a cat person. So this is
his cat. Technically his cat only sits on my lap.
Do you think cats can sense like they're trying Do
you think cats are trying to win people over if
they're not cat people.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
That's a great question because I.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Feel like that happens a lot where technically it's my
husband's cat, uh huh, he won't leave me alone.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
It happens all the time. And like we have a friend,
a good friend of ours, who's allergic to cats, and
so of course whenever he comes to our house. He
is the person that the cats want to be on,
like his lap. I don't know cats like people that
don't like them.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
I don't know you do, see, But I've grown fond.
I've grown fond of him.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
I love Trevor's cat. That is my best friend.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Also, would you say you're equally a cat and dog person?

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I grew up with dogs, so that is I think
more where I started out. But I definitely love my
cats that I have gotten as an adult, and I
think they're pretty awesome too.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
So they have complex personalities, don't they. I just didn't
really realize that until I had a cat.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
They do. And our little our little dog and our
cats like really get along well. And so it's it's
a nice little pack.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Who typically wins the Easter Egg Hunt is at the
cats of the dogs.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Most of the people that do the Easter Egg Hunt
are doing it with dogs, so.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Usually they're in there exactly you just wait. My cat's
a different breed and it's.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Pretty exciting because the first play that we do a
grand prize egg, which is actually a year supply of
food from Unleashed and it can be any food that
we sell. It Unleashed. We're not limited on that, and
so winning a year of food for any animal is
pretty exciting.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah, where's Unleased located? By the way, plug that for sure.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
So we have eleven locations. We're in the Triangle and
we're also down at the coast. So in the Triangle
we're in Raleigh, Carry Durham and then down at the
coast we're in Wilmington and Southport.

Speaker 3 (06:26):
Cool.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
So again, if you want to go to this, this fantastic.
Well what year is this for the event? By the way,
the spring Fling.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
This is our twelfth year. Wow, it's grown a lot
in these twelve years. It is really exciting.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Big event. Filling up Coca booth. Spring Fling Annual Dog
and Cap Fundraiser, Sunday, April thirteenth, noon to six. And again,
where can people go to learn more?

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Amy K nine spring Fling dot com, the letter K
the number nine, spring Fling dot com.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
All right, it's coming up April thirteenth. Amy, thank you
so much for joining us. We appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (07:00):

Speaker 1 (07:00):
