Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's funny about that to me is that, yeah, there's
a couple of very good gag Cardinals and Cubs, obviously
New York Yankees and Mets, but you also got like
raising twins in there. They try to slip some of
those by you as like, oh, his rivalry week, but
only for some teams. Other teams, you're going to play
the race. I don't quite understand that, but that's fine.
Baseball is going to do what baseball does. NBA action.
(00:22):
So Lebron in his career, an illustrious career, has done
a little bit of everything. He is the pioneer of
the godfather of the player empowerment era. You could go
all the way back to twenty ten's decision to really
put a lightning rod on that, and then since then
he has never been traded. He has been the team
that will trade players. He will be legm for you.
(00:44):
He will not be the guy who is getting traded.
He did opt into a fifty three million dollars player option,
and for the first time in his career he's playing
on the last year of a contract. So the first
time that he is actually on a last year of
a deal, he assigned which could mean a lot of things.
It can mean that this is the final season that
he's decided to play. It could mean that this is
(01:06):
just another uh first for him in his career. It's
very very interesting, to put it mildly, right, And then
we have David mcmadaman who goes on ESPN l a
uh and says.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
This, Dallas, I'm told that they would only be interested
in Lebron in a buyout situation.
Speaker 3 (01:25):
So and again we just because there is a deal
to be made there, if they wanted to make a deal,
there's a deal.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, there's a deal to be made there. But I again,
I don't believe that's happening.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
And he wants to go to If he's gonna go,
he's gonna go to the East if you can.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
I don't necessarily think that because his son's gonna be it.
So first of all, and let's keep bringing this up
because I don't think it's got enough attention.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
His son's on the Lakers.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, right, so he's gonna go get a trade away
from his son.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Yeah, why not include Brian.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
It's going to be such an easy trade to figure
out Lebron. Let's throw an extra contract down too. I
just don't that's a good fun So.
Speaker 1 (02:03):
So yeah, it's a fifty six million dollar contract, plus
Bronny is in there too.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
It's something I think it's like a three million dollar contract.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
So it's like closer to a sixty million dollars of
money that has to get moved and then what team
wants forty one year old Lebron James. It's ironic, It
really does feel like and again, this is a weird
comp but here with me, let's ride it out together.
It's Lebron has been the queen Bee of Lebron, the
queen bee, the most attractive free agent of suttractive player
(02:33):
for twenty seasons. For twenty years, Lebron has been the
guy that if you could have anybody in the league,
Kobe Duncan shack Kurry, it does not matter Lebron, Kevin Durrek.
Lebron was the guy that you put him on any
team in the league. He makes that team a little
bit better. He gets a team that misses the playoffs
to the playoff, gets a team that makes the playoffs
(02:55):
to the finals.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
That is just the type of.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Guy that he has been for the majority of his career.
So it's weird. To now hear him talked about as
a guy who nobody really wants. If you said to
me five ten years ago, hey, Lebron's on the market,
he could get traded. You were lining up around the block,
all right, who do we need to move?
Speaker 3 (03:12):
What do we need to move?
Speaker 1 (03:12):
And we want to keep this asset, but if it
has to move that asset, we'll move it. Now nobody
really wants this guy. And he comes out and he says, hey,
I have a little bit of a hesitance about the
roster that we have put together. Now, remind you, Lebron
has been the legm. He has been the guy who
has put a lot of these different rosters together. It's
ironic to me, the one roster that made the most
(03:35):
sense for him was the ones that were in Cleveland,
his second stint, where it was all right, Lebron's a facilitator.
And then you put shooters all around him. I don't
need another slasher, I don't need another guard. I don't
need you to go give me a center. I need
shooters around me. That is the way to win. And
now the Laker fans have decided that yes they need
a center. So now they're going to go bring in
DeAndre aid In, the former number one overall pick. Lebron
(03:56):
now has played with a record with Aiden on the roster,
record nine former number one overall picks, including himself every rock.
There are rosters where he has multiple number one overall picks. Now,
granted you have the Antie Bennetts of the world. Sometimes
he doesn't make a ton of sense. Sometimes those number
one overall picks do not pan out. There's been a
(04:18):
history of bust obviously, but for the most part, number
one picks do tend to make sense. Here are those
former number ones. He's played with Shaquille O'Neal. Well, that
doesn't really count. Shaq was a shell of himself by
the time he got to Cleveland. Dwight Howard again, the
powers of Dwight Howard in the mid twenty tens. Yeah,
this good team at twenty twenty, and that doesn't really
(04:38):
mean the same thing. Greg Godin, one of the biggest
busts of all time, played with him in the Miami
Heat Jerseys Derreck Rowse, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, three of
his better teammates of all time in Kyrie and Ad
Andrew bo getting out an DeAndre aid so he's had
plenty of talent around him in these number one overall picks.
But you wonder, okay, if he gets bought out. First off,
(05:01):
the Lakers want to spend fifty three million dollars to
buy him out. They want to spend another three million
dollars to buy his kid out and then have them
decide where they want to go. I personally am not
buying out a Lebron James contract for no other reason.
But besides whether you hate him or love him, he
is a guy you do not want to see the playoffs.
Lebron James upset at the Lakers in the playoffs playing
(05:22):
for the Mavericks or somewhere else would be a very
difficult guy to go up against. I would not want
to do that. But it comes down to a trade.
I don't know what assets are available to send it out.
He makes a ton of money and unless you're going
to send back an Sga or a Giannis or a Jokic,
you're not going to get that money back in return.
And the players are all better than what Lebron is.
(05:43):
Lebron is still a top fifteen guy, but you know
he's getting paid like he's the best player in the league,
which again is a little bit of a problem.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
So we'll see what happens. Cole.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Would you want the Golden State Warriors to find a
package the comingas and maybe some other pieces, try to
get the money where your bench gets completely gutted, but
you end up with Lebron James and a Warriors jersey
has a Warriors fan. Would that excite you?
Speaker 4 (06:07):
I'd be sick to my stomach. I want nothing to
do with Lebron James the player. I think it's discussing
what he's done in the past by holding teams hostage.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
And no, I'm serious. And you know, it's always funny.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
It's always about Lebron, and he always wants to It's
kind of like a Jerry Jones We're talking about Tuesday.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
He wants all the attention. Same with Lebron.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
He's like, oh my risk, oh my wrisk, Oh I
tore a leghm in over here.
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Oh now he's fine.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
But you know, for me, he forced his his kids,
like he forced the Lakers to draft his kid. You know,
you can say what you want about that. I don't
really think he was deserving to be drafted. But with
with him, it's never Lebron's fault. It's always the coach's fault.
Oh so it's always the teammate's fault. Oh, it's the
GM And it's always about him in a sense of Look, man,
(06:55):
the juice is not really worth the squeeze. I just
there's a better chance of Dua Lipa responding to my
dms on Instagram. Then you know him going to the Mavericks.
But I want nothing to do with him. I've never
wanted anything to do with him. He flops. I know
he's he's first ballot Hall of Famer. You can say
what you want. I don't really care for Lebron in general,
but it's the the way he plays the game and
(07:19):
goes about it, and it's never his problem, never his issue.
But the fact that you won't leave Oh yeah, no,
I've had this one in the chamber for a while.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
But he's not gonna leave La.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
He like zach Ry said in the first hour, he's
got the shot there, he's got you know, he tried
to do the Looney Tunes thing and that just flopped.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
It was awful. It's just he's not gonna leave La.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
His sons are there, he's got a family, so I
don't know, it's just nonsense when I hear stuff like that.
But he's not gonna leave. It is what it is.
But for him to pay like it was he owed
fifty something million, like good lord. And also you can't
build it dollars fifty million and you're forty and then
you're gonna play what a couple of games. And again
(08:01):
he's a coach killer, he's a GM killer. Keep him
away from my Warriors.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Okay, all right, well, Cole obviously super excited for Lebron James,
Steph Curry team up in the Bay, and I'm excited
for Bront's and Burgers tomorrow. We'll get you ready for
the fourth of July. Coming up next, Greig Wait Show
rolls on at Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone
