Speaker 1 (00:00):
Maybe you're working your way to that fourth of July
and four day weekend, hopefully. I don't know either way.
If you're stuck in traffic, join the club. You're not special.
We all are in that same spot together as traffic.
This week full weekend is going to be absolutely terrible.
I do want to give a shout out, though. So
you're playing Born in the USA, a little Bruce Springsteen action, right, Cole?

(00:20):
All right? So first off, good call. Second off, there's
not a lot of people, you know. We work in media.
You end up, especially at iHeart, you end up running
into some celebrities every once in a while that come
through their core, a podcast or whatever. The one celebrity,
the one celebrity my mom has always said, does not
matter where we are, doesn't matter what we're doing, what

(00:40):
time of day it is, to call her on FaceTime
to see that celebrity would be Bruce Springsteen. She is
the biggest Bruce Springsteen fan, the biggest Bruce Springs. The
movie We're the Boss. Look, Jeremy Allen White, I might
have to go see it. I'm kind of into that.
That's it looks good. I don't know, did you see
the trailer for it. Oh yeah, I've seen it. It

(01:01):
looks good. I'll go give to I mean, I'll wait
for it to come out to stream, but I'll watch it. Yeah,
I'm gonna. I'm gonna check it out. Jeremy Allen White
who plays Uh the Bear. He's in the Bear, Camion
the Bear. He sounds exactly like Bruce Springsteen singing. I'm
wondering if there will be some sort of conspiracy theory

(01:21):
that he sold his soul to sound like the Boss,
because he sounds exact to a tea cale to a
te he sounds like Bruce by Man, it's Hollywood, well,
you know, Austin Butler for he still sounds like Elvis,
you know, and Timothy Scharlome. He sang like Bob Dylan,
and I think that he was pretty spot on. So
I wonder if Jeremy Allen White took like vocal lessons

(01:43):
to sound just like Springsteen. If he he did, congratulations,
If he didn't, he just naturally sings like that. We've
been wasting his time on a Hulu show. We need
to get him, get him on stage, get him to
do some more stuff. Many it's impressive, all right, all right,
So Cameron Newton has been in the media the last
couple of days, thankfully because of Paul Finbaum. Paul Finbaum

(02:05):
the voice of college football SEC football. He is a
face of whatever you want to say. He did a
good job this week because he got a lot of clicks,
got a lot of attention when he said that Arch
Manning was the closest thing. He's the best quarterback he
has seen since National Champion winner, Heisman Trophy Awardy, Tim Tebow.

(02:27):
A lot of people were very upset about that call.
A lot of people were very upset that Fine bamb
invoked the name Tim Tebow, especially considering that guys like
Cam Newton had incredible season in twenty eleven, Joe Burrow
in twenty nineteen, Johnny Manziel, There's the list goes on.
A lot of people were very upset about that, and
Cam Newton, who has been just besmirched in some people's

(02:48):
minds about the way Fine Baumb spoke of Arch Manning
completely skipping over Cam Newton. He spoke, I thought, very eloquently,
was a rare win for Cam Newton when it comes
to a nuanced take, Let's hear it.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
They went into the University of Texas with the understanding
that they're trying to put Arch Manning in the best
situation to be developed over time.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
It's not of my plan.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
That's gonna come. But who's going to develop this specific
talent to be the best talent by the time he's
eligible to go to the next level. A lot of
these parents and a lot of these players get so
jaded off of the fact that, hey, I'm trying to
play early. No no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Scratch that go somewhere that after three years you could

(03:34):
put yourself in a position to go to the league.
That doesn't mean that I'm going somewhere where I could
play early or start. Just because you're starting doesn't mean
you're getting developed. I've always felt like I was more
talented than Tim Tebow, but I needed Tim Tebow to
show me what I lacked. Ten tbo is an unbelievable
leader verbally and by actions. Arch would be a fool

(03:56):
if he has not learned anything from Quinn Ewers, how
he prepared, how he lead his team, and just how
he handled and managed the expectations for being a quarterback
at a university like Texas. The synonym for Heisman is hype.
The player who has the most hype typically wins the Heisman.
I don't think another quarterback has had this much hype

(04:17):
at the University of Texas since the great Vince Young.
You are a freaking fool if you don't think Cooper Manning,
Archie Manning, Eli Manning, and Peyton Manning has any type
of involvement with the decision making of their nephew, their
grandson or their son. Because with the name like Manning,
it holds a lot of weight in this football world.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Can you believe how nuanced to take that was? Like
Cam Newton says, a lot of crazy stuff, Cole, he says,
a lot of stuff that you throw against the wall
and see what sticks. And the fourth and One podcast,
I played a couple of clips on this show before
filling for Crag. I've played it on other shows I've
filled in for. It is a clickbaity type of podcast.
Ca says some things that I scratched my head at sometimes,

(05:02):
but what he said is the truth. What he said
is spot on. Okay. First off, yes, it is obvious
that the Manning family selected the University of Texas not
only for the brand, but also for the coaching staff
and the ability to insulate their nephew the hype coming in.
He was a perfect rated quarterback coming out of high school.

(05:24):
He played at a public school, didn't go to a
private school, didn't go play at you know, the IMG
Academy or somewhere else like that. He did everything the
right way. He dealt with a lot of the pressure,
dealt with a lot of the hype having the last
name Manning, but he never really got to him. And
now he goes to a place like the University of
Texas that does a very good job of treating their

(05:45):
celebrities properly. There is a reason, and in case you
didn't know, there's a reason that celebrities from California moved
to let's say Austin versus some other places because in La,
if you've never been out there in La, they treat
the celebrities like anybody else. It doesn't matter that there's
a Hollywood star going to the Starbucks. I see one

(06:06):
of those every day. It does not matter that I
have a Vogue model in my yoga class. I see
him every day. Austin is turned into that as well,
and the University of Texas is no exception. It doesn't
matter that his last name is Manning. Yeah, it's cool
at first you got the picture of the ID card
that he fell on whatever, right, But for the most part,
he gets left alone. He doesn't have to deal with

(06:27):
the paparazzi effect of it. He doesn't have to deal
with being a celebrity, a superstar. And again, no disrespect
to Georgian, no disrespect to Alabama or Florida or whoever
else in the SEC. But you got a guy like
that walking around campus in twenty twenty five. There's a
phone in his face. At every turn, there's somebody there
trying to take his picture, trying to get an autograph,
something going on with him. So, yes, Cam Newton is

(06:50):
spot on. And I will say this took him with
a lot of class. Took him with a lot of
class because he's gotten a lot of dishes from Paul
Finebaum considering that, you know, I think Cam Newton's individual
season twenty eleven, again, you want to do full career.
T Bow's my man. You want to do individual season,
Cam Newton, Joe Burrow, those are the type of guys
that I have to put in those conversations because those

(07:10):
are the best individual seasons of all time, and he
also makes a good point. Cam says, it is hype
who has the most hype coming in. We have seen
a lot of quarterbacks go into the year as the
Heisman favorite. We've seen a lot of quarterbacks go into
the year as a Heisman favorite and not even make
it to New York, let alone win the trophy. So
I will say for the expectations, the expectations for the

(07:33):
University of Texas are all put on themselves. Your runner
up in the SEC your runner up in the semifinals
of the playoffs. You're trying to get over that hump.
You don't really care if a guy wins an individual
award because at the end of the day, the names
that get to etchtra in history, the Heisman Trophy winners
are great. National champions are better.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
All right.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
When we come back, we will wrap up our number two,
give you a couple of Fourth of July traditions, and
have a little bit of were having fun on a Thursday.
