Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to the program. My name is
(00:02):
Craig Way. So glad to be with you and hope
your weekend went okay. You know you always say on
Friday about if it's your traditional Friday Monday, the Friday thing,
good on you, good for you. I'll say the same
thing for those of you who for whom Monday is
kind of like a Friday. You get Tuesday and Wednesday off,
good for you. Enjoy those next couple of days. For
(00:24):
those of you in the middle part of your week
or whatever, understand that I hope it's going all right
for you. But we're glad to be with you. Coming
off a weekend that had baseball, it had golf, it
had long worn football practice, it had Cowboys training camp practices.
Coming up in the three o'clock hour. In the four
o'clock hour today, we'll hear from Brian Schottenheimer. Yeah, some
(00:49):
shoddy sound from Cowboys training camp, including his thoughts on
things going on with Michael Parsons and his his stalemate
with Jerry Jones and the contract negotiations her He's got
one year left on his rookie deal, but he wants
it redone and Jerry hasn't done it yet, so that
(01:13):
is ongoing. But we'll hear from Brian Chottenheimer coming up
in the three o'clock hour, and then the four o'clock
hour coming up in a few minutes, we're gonna hear
from Ethan Burt long Worn's defensive end as Texas continues.
It's work another afternoon practice today and they continue to
work getting ready for the kickoff, which is now what
(01:36):
is today's day? Cameron Parker, of course, producer Cameron D.
Barker deon birth certificate stands for Dallases and the Cowboys,
and hopefully his fandom hasn't weaned too much. But we're
twenty six days away from kickoff twenty six? How are
you feeling about that?
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Okay, so who's the twenty six? The former Longhorn.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Harold Dylon.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Comes to mind, un ingram twenty six for a little bit.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
He was, he was, yeah, yeah, So that's that's that
makes sense. Uh, it might not be one of the
let's just say it might not be one of the
most uh, you know, impactful numbers. You might say might
(02:30):
not be one of the most impactful numbers in in
Longhorn football history. Number twenty six. It might it might
not be one of those. But still in all, we're
twenty six days away from kickoff, so we're looking forward
to that when it does come around, and and and
(02:53):
of course the uh you know, the season opens up
with that eleven eight kickoff, and uh, that'll be that
eleven our Man CB mentioned ty Anthony Smith. He mentioned him. Oh,
(03:15):
how about a starting running back by the name of
Trey Wisner. Trey Wisner. Okay, you go.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
DJ Monroe is twenty six, yeah, one point for Texas. Yeah, yeah,
Trey Wiser was a good one. Yeah, So there you go,
that would be that'd be another one there. So remember
Ivan Williams who had the big, the big game winning
touchdown in the Holiday Bowl in two thousand. Our man
CB on Twitter it certainly remembers Johnny Lamb Jones, the
great Johnny Lamb jy. I forget about that rip did
(03:41):
Johnny Lamb Jones because he was.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
A wide receiver there, but the great Johnny Lamb Jones
War number twenty six as well. So anyway, we're twenty
six days away from kickoff. I'm happy to report. I mean,
this is all sincerity, Cameron Parker. I'm happy to report
that I'm now now officially credentialed for the Ohio State game.
That's good. There was, well, we joke, but I will
(04:08):
tell you that there was. I don't know if confusion
is the right word, or misunderstanding or clarification might be
the proper phraseology here that was needed. The radio network
submitted my credentials. It did for everybody else, including Roger
(04:31):
Wallas and Old Matthews yep, yep, yep, absolutely, and also
for Greg kling and Smith, our engineer, and it came
back with a notation. It did not deny me my credential,
but what it said was your credential application is incomplete.
And it was weird because pretty much everything it had submitted.
(04:53):
Now I did not submit it, but I knew that
everything had been complete and submitted. On that there was
a follow up, and in the follow up, the same
thing happened. Also. I don't know if it happened with
Roger and Will, but it definitely happened with our engineer,
Greg Clansmith, and he did a follow up on his
own and was like, no, this is this and this
and that, and then we're like, okay, you're good, You're good.
(05:16):
This morning, I got confirmation that I'm good to go
for the Horseshoe.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
So have your flight booked? Yes, hotel? Yes, so you're
all set then?
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Yeah. In fact, last week I think it was all
travel was completed for the twenty twenty six twenty twenty
five excuse me, regular season. A while, all of it's done.
All of it's done, including flights into such exotic locales
(05:44):
as Lexing, Kentucky, and Tupelo, Mississippi, as well as Atlanta
for the Georgia game, in Gainesville for the Florida game.
Of course, Oklahoma is a commute, but Columbus, Ohio. So yes.
I had several people asking me about this, about this
Mississippi state trip because a lot of folks, a lot
of long worn fans. This probably is not going to
(06:08):
surprise you as much as long worn fans like to
travel to all of the venues. Sometimes some of the
places you go, it's very difficult to get a ticket
to the game. Athens, Georgia is a prime example of that.
Seven hundred dollars right now. Yeah, oh, you've checked the prices.
You've checked the prices, okay, yeah, well yeah, and so
(06:30):
you know, there's very few tickets available in the resale market. No, No,
there's a lot available in the resale market. It's just
as you so astutely pointed out, it's not necessarily at
an advantageous price. No, in the ticket draw or whatever
or not, you know, different than the student draw. I mean,
(06:52):
if you are a season ticket holder and you request
to buy certain tickets on the road depending on your
level of giving and things of that nature and membership,
there's that some of that involved as well, but some
of it is just flat out it's hard at heck
to get a ticket to a road venue. Georgia is
(07:15):
proving to be the most difficult road ticket for a
log worn fan to come up with. And you just
laid out what a secondary ticket market price is going
for these days seven hundred.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
You said last night, shag, I'll pull up seat geek
right now. Okay, check, because I was interested in seeing
like you know, hey, if it's somewhat affordable, maybe you
figure out a way.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
No, absolutely not.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
I think Georgia fans are probably more excited for this
football game than they are for any other game.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
On well, it's unusual obviously too. In addition to the
fact that it's going to be a high profile SEC game,
so it'll clearly be that. But in addition to that,
it's unusual to have the University of Texas coming to
Half in Georgia, at least for the first time anyway.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
So the cheapest ticket right now on seak, including all
the fees and stuff, five point fifty one. You're sitting
three twenty five, so you're in the corner of the
visitor end zone. Okay, and then that's the only ticket
in the five hundred dollars mark. Everything else is you
got three tickets I see right now in the six
hundred mark, and then everything else is in the seven
hundreds to eight hundred. And that's not you're you're sitting
(08:26):
in because they have three tiers at at this this football.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Sea yeah, Sanford Stadium, Sanford Stadium.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
So you're looking at uh, you're watching the game a
pretty pretty.
Speaker 1 (08:37):
High for you, and you think about it.
Speaker 2 (08:39):
But then if you're higher up your culture to the
pyrotechnics and the fireworks, yeah there is that.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
It's funny you bring that up. Do you have h
or or have seen in action this year.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
NCAA Football twenty six the football game the game? No,
I haven't I have a friend who bought it, but
I never even played the last one.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Okay, all right. The reason why I asked this is
my youngest son has it. Now. I have not seen
the game yet. In fact, I didn't even know he
had it until Saturday morning. I had my entire family,
my immediate family on that side in town because on
Friday I went over to Brian to see my grandson
(09:25):
swim at the TAAF State Games. He was part of
a relay team in a couple of events, so went
over there for that, and then my three other grandchildren,
my daughter and son in law were all staying in
the area Friday night. My other three are in the
area anyway, so my four kids, my four grandkids, Linda,
(09:48):
me and Andy's fiance, so my soon to be daughter
in law and my son in law, all of us
we gathered for breakfast Saturday morning. So we were over
there and it was a breakfast that Jason, my youngest son,
he's twenty six, speaking of number twenty six, is revealed
(10:09):
to Andy, the oldest son. They were talking about NCAA
football twenty six and Jason was like, yeah, I got it,
blah blah blah blah, Anica he has it. I didn't know,
so I asked him yesterday evening over dinner. I said,
did I hear you right? Did you say you have
NCAA Football twenty six? He says, yeah, yeah, I got it.
And I said, okay, sometime this week. You know, he
(10:33):
keeps it in his room and he's got his own
big screens in his room, you know whatever. I said,
I want you to bring it into the den at
living room area and put it on the bigger screen
I have there. I said, I want to see it
because I'd seen it last year. I like seeing what
the stadiums look like, how realistic that. I want to
(10:55):
see arch panning in it, you know, all this stuff.
So I said, I want to I want to see that,
and he said okay. And he made two observations and
one of these is going to interest Texas State fans,
and that is he said that they now have Bobcats
Stadium or it's now called UFCU Stadium. I guess UFCU
(11:18):
Bobcats Stadium whatever they have it in the game. They
didn't have it last year. They had a stadium for
Texas State, but it didn't look representative. It was missing
the upper death.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Okay, that's our former sixth Man of the Year, Andrew Simmol,
who's longer with us anymore.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
He's not dead. He took another job within the ihearchy framework.
Speaker 2 (11:40):
He would complain about how the Texas state stating was incorrect,
and it's like, well, you know, maybe if you guys
moved to the PAC twelve, then they'll update it.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
And that's what and that's what they did. So he
pointed that out. The other thing he pointed out, and
this speaks to the point you were talking about a
few moments ago, he said, they now I'll have each teams.
I don't know how they got this. I guess they
got it for the athletic department. They have each team's
drone show. Oh that's right. I've seen the pictures of that.
(12:11):
They have each team's drone show. So the drone show
that folks saw for the log warns last year, that's
in the game. Apparently now I've not seen it myself.
I have to report back on this, but I'm going
to get in to pull it up. Part of the
reason that things got pushed back a little bit. I
got drawn drawn into a dance off, no, into a
(12:33):
streaming series. Okay, what series, Linda, don't say Love Island please, No, No,
that's my daughters. Linda and my daughters are all into
the Gilded Age, the one that's on HBO. Max. I
didn't realize it's already into its third season, but we
started season one over the weekend. We're almost done with
season one, so yeah, she's got me into it. Now.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
Who was the president during the Gilded Age?
Speaker 1 (12:58):
It depends on what segment of the Gilded Age you're
talking about. This takes place in eighteen eighty two, which
would have been during Chester A. Arthur's time as president.
He took over for Garfield, who was assassinator. Remember he
was two months in office or four months in office,
got shot, hung on for two months, basically died of
ganggreen poisoning with unsterilized fingers poking around in him trying
(13:18):
to get the bullet out, and that's what made him
sick and he ended up dying. So there's some of
that coming off Rutherford B. Hayes presidency and before getting
to Grover Cleveland's first of two non consecutive terms. So
it's during that time in the eighteen eighties. So anyway,
I will admit this. She kind of dragged me into
(13:40):
it as really really came about. Okay, she gets I
know you will like it because your appreciation of history.
I'm like, yeah, but the dramatized history. Yeah, he YadA YadA.
But I watched it. I'm into it now.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
So is it good or is it more just like
a soap opera taking place in the Gilded Age.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
It's all of the above.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Ok.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
There's stories of people, and some of it is that
kind of way in the way that White Lotus or
some of the other streaming series are done like that.
So I was like, Okay, I'll watch it, and so, yep,
now I'm into it. That's why I had didn't have
an awful lot of time for other things other than
watching baseball, NASCAR, a lot of the pro football news
(14:22):
things like that during the course of the weekends. So
we're going to get to all of that. But up
next we will hear from Ethan Burgh the Long Warne
defensive end. When we continue autumn Monday afternoon on thirteen
under the.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
Zone, and we have that to the Craig Way Show.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
Have a message for Craig.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Share it by using the talkback feature on the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 1 (14:48):
App here on Monday afternoon and some college football notes
to get two before we year from Ethan Burke. They
love them some Matt Campbell and Iowa State they have
they you know, he he was one of those hot
(15:10):
coaching names. Was thought there are a lot of people
thought he might replace Jim Harbaugh Michigan there or other
people thought he might go other places, and all that
sort of stuff didn't happen, and he got them to
the Big Twelve Championship. Last year they went eleven and three.
They finished fifteenth in the AP Pole. They got whacked
(15:31):
by cam Scataboo in Arizona State in the Big Twelve
Championship game. But they it's easy to say he's done
more for that football program than probably any coach had.
Dan McCartney kind of put him on the map in
the early two thousands, but Matt Campbell has done that.
So they finalized a contract extension with him through twenty
(15:53):
thirty two, winning his coaching program history first ever eleven
win season. He's gonna get five million a year in
total compensation. Three time Big Twelve Coach of the Year
apparently took a discount on the salary, so that his
salary staff pool could increase and to allow Iowa State
(16:17):
to allocate an additional one million dollars to revenue sharing
funds for the football roster. Translation and ill trying to
make sure that they have more of that here in
four million last year, Dion Sanders, by the way, is
the highest paid coach the Big Twelve. About ten million
for Dion after landing that five year, fifty four million
(16:40):
dollar deal back in March. Matt Campbell's new salary will
not rank among the top five in the conference, but
he said he prioritized maximizing Iowa State's ability to invest
in the football roster following this. He's forty five years
of age. He said. You may remember a Big Twelve
many days if you heard him saying that quote. Probably
(17:02):
our top twenty guys took a pay cut to come
back to Iowa State for twenty twenty five relative to,
as Jerry would say, what they could have earned in
nil compensation by entering the transfer portal. So he's kept
guys there. So anyway there. It is oh always like
reading about contract incentives for coaches. These are Matt Campbell's
(17:24):
coaching incentives if they win seven games winning season, Right,
if you win seven games two hundred and fifty thousand
dollars bonus, you go twelve to zero one point five million.
It climbs on up exponentially. He'll earn at least one
(17:44):
hundred thousand dollars if they go back to the Big
twelve championship game like they did last year, and if
they win the Big Twelve, he could win up to
five hundred thousand. It also permits him to distribute one
hundred thousand dollars of those foreman's incentive earnings each year
to his staff. So, in other words, if he's hitting
these thresholds and are saying, now here's a check, you
(18:06):
get three hundred and fifty thousand, he can say, take
one hundred thousand off the top and split it evenly
among my staff. I guess that's how you keep your
your staff intact.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Well, especially because Iowa State they are going to be
one of the programs that it's going to be struggling
in this new in Iola college football. I mean, I
think it was a last week or the week before
they announced that they had the halt some renovations to
some of the athletic department infrastructures had to halt that
because they just didn't have the funds for it. And
(18:37):
now with the new revenue sharing and all this, Iowa
States and it's gonna be in a little bit of trouble.
So we'll see if it works out for Matt Campbell.
And I wonder if you know, maybe he regrets not
moving on, but he also he might be the Mike
Gundy for Iowa State, Craig where he's just going to
be there and you know, in twenty years it'll still
be Matt Campbell as head coach. He seems to fit
(18:58):
that culture well. The fans love him. I think every
Iowa State football fan would die for Matt Campbell if
they had to.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
So go after him. He's forty five, he's a man.
By the way. Here's the other side of that. If
he does, if he does except another Power for coaching job,
head coaching job, and he is the head coach of
a Power four school at Iowa State, they're in the
Big twelve. The buyout two million dollars. No, he would
(19:31):
not now get this, He would not owe any liquidated
damages like the buyout if he leaves for an NFL
coaching opportunity. Remember he interviewed with the Bears in January
when they were looking at what they were going to do.
So anyway, he's led the Cyclones to bowl game seven
(19:52):
of the past eight seasons, including a win in the
Fiesta Bowl top ten finish in twenty twenty. So anyway,
mac ample is on board with that. All right, Speaking
of college football, let's hear from long Warren to Ethan
Burke coming off an elevated step up because he'd had
some injuries and things like that early on, but an
elevated step up last year and now being counted upon
(20:14):
to be a chief coming off the edge as an
edge rusher. Here is the Longhorns edge rusher, Ethan Burke.
Speaker 5 (20:22):
I'm still starting with being very complimentary with you yesterday.
How is your game developed in the offseason and where
do you stand up hearing this season?
Speaker 6 (20:30):
Yeah, for me, this off sea has been great. Just
have another year for me to like develop my body
and then I think I've really figured out like what
it takes to be elite at this level and put
it all together and just for me, I think right
now taking another step in camp and leadership wise and
just elevating my game this summer and bringing in coach
(20:52):
Clark has been huge and I'm looking I'm looking forward
to the season. I think it's a It's been a
great summer.
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Yeah, you feel.
Speaker 7 (20:59):
Like Adam been in the league yet.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
That you needed to push yourself in the I think so.
Speaker 6 (21:05):
Yeah, I think I've had I think I've had spurts
where I've been elite, But just for me, just being
consistent every time I step out on the field, just
being the best version of myself.
Speaker 8 (21:15):
What do you feel like you learned from Maris Broll
while being around too for the last few years.
Speaker 6 (21:20):
From Baron such a great teammate and leader for me,
a guy who I am so grateful just to have,
you know, playing with and be on the other side
as and for a whole year.
Speaker 4 (21:33):
He just taught me work ethic right.
Speaker 6 (21:36):
He He's a guy who puts his head down, doesn't
doesn't talk, he doesn't show bone. He's not flashy and
like the media may not love all that because he's
not the most flashy guy, but he is a hard
worker and he's been such a consistent like player for
this program and just to learn from him has been great.
I couldn't have asked for like a better I guess
you could say mentor.
Speaker 4 (21:58):
He has some of those, those their tendencies. What's it
like being on the other side.
Speaker 7 (22:03):
Of hamiling to leave on?
Speaker 6 (22:05):
Yeah, Colin is just a great player and someone who's
great the playoff, playoff of for the interior.
Speaker 4 (22:11):
Guys and the other and the for me on the
other end, and.
Speaker 6 (22:15):
Just communication and he's upbeat, fun guy to be around.
Speaker 7 (22:20):
You know.
Speaker 6 (22:21):
I've grown grown really close to him, so it's been outstanding.
Speaker 9 (22:24):
Is there anything specific you worked on over the summer
through the ring that you really paid attention to? You
said consistent, seem to anything within that you worked for me?
Speaker 6 (22:35):
Just like applying myself every every drill, every rep. I
think that was huge and mentally like what do I
have to do right now?
Speaker 4 (22:43):
And being able to.
Speaker 6 (22:45):
Slow the game down with coach Clark, you know, we
broke it down like what should I do here? What
should my first step, second step, third.
Speaker 4 (22:52):
Step be like? And just really getting back to the fundamentals.
For me, it was huge.
Speaker 5 (22:56):
You're going to get some new guys in practice kind
of what makes Trevor would be so effective specific as
a pass blocker, puging. Where have you seen from from
Baker on the other side.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
Yeah, let's talk with Trevor.
Speaker 6 (23:07):
Trevor just the length and and the stature.
Speaker 4 (23:11):
He's huge human being.
Speaker 6 (23:14):
I would tell his physicality to Both him and Baker
are very physical.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (23:18):
Baker does a good job. I think his fundamentals are great,
you know, rushing, he gets his.
Speaker 4 (23:23):
Hand on this on this rib, on my.
Speaker 6 (23:25):
Rib and it pisses me off sometimes, but he's really
good at it. I'll say, so, both of them very
physical players. But that's just how like we've kind of been.
You know, how they raise you through the program. You know,
you just become more physical as you are here longer.
And uh, they both developed that trait. And Baker just
smart player and really hard worker, always here after, you know,
(23:46):
getting extra work. He's always in the weight room after
he's the only guy in there. I'll say that after
practice he's the only guy usually, you know, putting an
extra work and he's getting extra recovery. So for him,
that that's really how bring his game to another level.
Speaker 4 (24:00):
In Texas, TeaF that's last year was one of the
best in the country.
Speaker 6 (24:03):
What made you believe this year you guys could continue
to be kind of the anger of this team, totally
outstanding last year and the year prior.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
I would say one of the best defenses in the
country for us.
Speaker 6 (24:15):
We have so many guys returning right, almost a lot
of the back end right, they were young, and we're
still young as a team, but there's so many, so
many people, Like on the D line for example, we're
just young and hungry.
Speaker 4 (24:29):
And then the corners are hungry.
Speaker 6 (24:31):
They're trying to go to the NFL, like Manny, all
these guys, third year guys, they're all so hungry and
bringing them all back are just it's going to be
such a fun year, just because we've all played together
for so long now, and there's so much chemistry. Like
with Colin and I were communicating across the field.
Speaker 4 (24:48):
I know what he's saying, he knows what I'm saying.
Speaker 6 (24:50):
And now now to practice in with these interior guys,
were working on words and co words whatever, and the
chemistry has just been great, especially with the linebackers too.
They they're great communicators. Anthony, Leon Ga, Trey, all of them.
When did you know you would come up? I had
that chemistry gap.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (25:08):
I think we just we get along off the field.
And we have and everyone kind of gets along off
the field. Do you know there's no one who's kind
of like like a you know, outcast. Everyone kind of clicks.
We all kind of have that good chemistry, I would say.
Speaker 7 (25:23):
And they all save them if you had to count them.
But how many times did people come up with you say, hey,
nice to play?
Speaker 4 (25:28):
Yeah? Too many.
Speaker 6 (25:30):
It's not a bad thing, No, how could I It's
a good feeling.
Speaker 4 (25:35):
Yeah, then he gets stopped.
Speaker 7 (25:36):
Just not shop all of it.
Speaker 4 (25:38):
Occasionally, Yes, yeah, you had.
Speaker 7 (25:40):
Like a poster on your wall at your apartment or no.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
I know, if anyone wants to send me one, that'd
be cool. I'll give it to my mom.
Speaker 5 (25:48):
Maybe do you have context, like just how he's in
Texas's that that play is like in that series more
than it's part of the history.
Speaker 4 (25:56):
Did you take about that way? Not right now?
Speaker 6 (26:00):
I think maybe in twenty years I'll reflect and be like,
that was really cool, you know, And there's been so
many cool moments just being on this team that in
the future I can't. I feel like right now I'm
not seeing it fully, But then once I'm sitting down
maybe with my kids whatever, who knows, Just reflecting on
it's seem.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
To be an awesome moment that that.
Speaker 6 (26:20):
Game and then so many others and then we still
have the future so hopefully more.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Just to reflect on.
Speaker 9 (26:25):
A lot of new faces on the end to your
defensive line and that are playing next to you.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Any guys standing out at this point or I's interesting.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
Yeah, I think today from my perspective, Travis Shaw it
a great day for how big he is. He is
really explosive and fun to watch and hilarious off the field.
So I think all the transfers we brought in great personalities,
really explosive, and I think they want to communicate.
Speaker 4 (26:54):
They want to be the best.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
They came here to win the national championship and they're
all they're all all gats.
Speaker 4 (26:59):
You know, got to have those guys.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
What do you do to help a guy on Brent
Spence who's basically it sounds like he's full time damage.
Speaker 4 (27:06):
Yeah, he has so.
Speaker 7 (27:08):
Pretty good.
Speaker 6 (27:09):
I think Brad just he so has great physical attributes, right,
that dude is jacked. I think just just getting the
fundamentals down right. It's a newer position for him at
the college level. So but it's it's gets more advanced,
you know, than high school. I don't know if he
played in high school, but I assume he did if
he's playing here now. But he uh, just just fundamentals
(27:33):
for him, you know, getting his hands right, what his
footwork looks like, and always queueing the ball and getting off.
Speaker 4 (27:40):
That would be my advice to him.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
So there's Eathon Burke up next Inconceivable for a Monday,
coming up here on thirteen hundred The Zone, the second
hour of the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred of The Zone. Craig waylongside, the producer Cameron Parker,
glad to have you with us. Coming up in a
few minutes, we'll hear from Brian Schottenheimer the first of
a couple of parts because pready lengthy stuff, but it's
got some stuff in there as his thoughts. Michah Parsons
(28:06):
and of course that was the big news over the weekend.
Mike was saying he wanted out, wanted to be done,
Jerry Jones saying it's a negotiating employ all of that
other kind of stuff. So we'll we'll hear from Shotti
the first part of that coming up here in just
a few minutes. Before something we didn't get to an
hour number one, and I wanted to do this was
(28:28):
did you? And I forgot And it's because I forgot
to ask you if you watched, uh the I guess
it was. I guess the best way to describe it
would be the end of CBS's golf coverage schedule of
the season, because they did the Windham Championship in my
(28:50):
hometown of Greensboro, North Carolina, used to be called the
GGO when I was a kid going up there, and
one of the older events on the PGA Tour, and
and it did my heart good, by the way to
hear Jim Nantz yesterday say that the players say it's
one of their favorite stops because of the hospitality and
(29:10):
the way they're treated, so one and so forth. But
Cam cam Young, you know, just kind of rested control
of it with four straight birdies on the front nine,
head it up to eight shots, settled for a sixty
five and a six shot win, and so he wound
(29:30):
up having quite a closing round to win his first
PGA Tour event. And this is a guy who played
his golf twenty five miles away and went to Salem
over at wake for so it was a pretty cool deal. Yeah, he's.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Not the most polarizing personality on the PGA Tour, but
he's a lot of fun to watch. He's a talented
golf player that we were all kind of waiting for
to kind of break through it and get that first one.
He's had some excellent finishes, top fives at major championships,
but never really could get over the door or over
the hump rather and and never really was in a
(30:06):
spot where he was, you know, first going into the
final round where it felt like, Okay, this is his tournament.
He was always just kind of, you know, hanging around,
and we get top fives and top tens, and hey,
that's great for your bank account, it's great for your
FedEx points, FedEx for it's great for your world you know,
world golf ranking and stuff. But it's good for your sponsors,
good for your sponsors. But we kind of always wondered, hey,
(30:27):
is Cam Young ever going to break through? And then
you know, this season he's kind of had an up
and down year, and in fact, you know, he was
trending the wrong direction, and you know, you know, honestly,
I was a little bit worried where you know, Cam
Young was gonna end up going this season, and he
started off with a lot of miss cuts. The West
Coast swing was not great. Uh, miss cut at the
Amax seventy seventy second finish a Pebble Beach, and he
(30:50):
missed a cut in four out of five straight events,
including the Arnold Palmer, the Genesis fallas bar t sixty
one of the players. His best finish going into the
US Open or going into the summer was a you know,
a team eight in Hawaii, and then all of a
sudden he kind of flipped around. He had back to
back top fives, including at the Canadian Open. At the
(31:12):
US Open, he missed the cut of the Open Championship,
but two weeks later breaks through and gets that first
when and now has you know, kind of put himself
back into the Ryder Cup contention.
Speaker 1 (31:22):
So awesome for Cam Young.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Of course, you know, I grew up an hour away
from from Wake Forest, had some friends that were Demon deacons.
They have an excellent golf program. Of course, Lenny Watkins,
who you know, was there but heard a strange port
a strange but then you know some of the younger
guys now like you know Will Saladrs and Cam Young,
so awesome for Cam Young.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
Jay Jay Haas, the legendary golfer from White Far to
play his son, isn't it Jerry who's his coach? Who's
Cam cam Young's coach or instructor? I believe, I believe
Jerry hasss Uh. I thought I heard something about that,
but uh, and at least related to the family.
Speaker 2 (31:59):
I think Kem Young's swing instructor is just his dad
David Okay, Okay, all right.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
I'd heard I heard him talking about Jerry hash yesterday,
so I guess maybe he's involved in some way or whatever.
But that Wake Forest connection no bigger name than Arnold Palmer.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
It was the greatest of all the wake Forest golfers.
Jerry Haws is the head coach at wake.
Speaker 1 (32:22):
Wake Forest, That's right. He was his head coach at
wake Okay, and of course son of Jay Haas, the
longtime PG Tour veteran who played on the National Championship
Wake Forest team with Curtis Strange. They were on the
same team together.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (32:36):
And then like like we said, obviously the greatest of
them all from Wake Forest was Arnold Palmer who played there.
So they've had a great golfing tradition and everything, but
it was kind of funny. The CBS mics picked it
up when he came off eighteen when he said where
do I go? He said, I've I've never done this before.
You know, what do I do? Now? What do I?
What do I do? Well? You head for Amanda zalator
(32:59):
a man up bally on this because she's gonna She's
gonna go over there and visit with you, all right,
So that was one of the things that was going
to bring up about that. Now. The other thing that
that I thought was was really touching the tribute that
they did to Ian Baker Finch. It was his final
(33:24):
broadcast working He's a guy won the Open Championship in
nineteen ninety one when he won his first ever PGA
Tour event in America. I was part of the broadcast
team on the call on radio at Colonial when he
did that. I remember when he won it Colonial, that
(33:44):
was that was something else. And then of course won
the Open Championship. My late wife Laurie, who would who
would go to some of the golf events with us
when I was doing golf on the radio on KRLD.
She she she took a particular fancy to IBF she
(34:05):
really yeah, yeah, she liked him a lot. She thought,
I'm a fine, handsome man. I would say, are you
going to follow a group today? Well, I thought I'd
followed that Australia got uh, okay, have fun maker Finch
Uh a gentleman. And then it was a really cool,
(34:26):
touching moment for Jim Nance to hand it to him
to call the final part. Now it was, you know,
anti climacticus to who would win. Would have been interesting
to see if Cam Young had needed to make a
birdie to tie or went outright or whatever, if Jim
still would have relinquished it. But with everything in hand,
(34:50):
he turned it over to Cameron Young. And that's no
small thing really for the guy who is in who
is the veteran play by play guy of calling it.
And then you get to, you know, the last That'd
be like asking Mike Brain when when uh in the
NBA finals, if you know one team is way up
on the other team, they're in the line of the
(35:10):
last minute of the last game, you're gonna turn it
over to Dorisburg or or you know, uh uh, you
know you're gonna Richard Jefferson and say, you guys you
guys finish it. I know they're different dynamics involved, but
still that was a pretty classic move I thought on
the part of Jim Nance it is. And I mean
I love the golf broadcast teams. You can you can
(35:31):
hate love the golf coverage, but the teams at CBS
with Jim NANTZ with IBF.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
I love Trevor Immlman has grown on me. He's done
a really good time. I think, you know, replacing Nick
fall though, and I always like, uh, Frank Nabolo. Frank
was great. They got a great I love Doddy Pepper
and they it's just got they got a great chemistry
and stuff. So it's always sad because the one you
(35:57):
lose a good voice. But also then you're worried about, Hey,
well at dis up this chemistry you mentioned. You know,
Mike Breenings. I think Mike Brings he's my favorite basketball commentary.
But every year he's got different broadcast partners, and that
hurts the broadcast because you're still trying to figure out
the chemistry and stuff. So we'll see what CBS does.
But yeah, it you know, a little bit sad seeing
(36:17):
IBF no longer on the broadcast, But hey, He's had
a great career both on the golf course and in
the broadcast booth, and wiswell he's.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
He's a really unique individual in that this is a
guy for whom greatness was forecast. He did win a major,
he won the Open Championship and then and you can
speak to it better than I can cam But I've
seen it, I've heard about it, I've read about it.
Golfers who completely lose their game for a time in
(36:46):
their career, just completely lose it. There was one tournament
he played in where he shot like a ninety one
in one round. I mean, you know stuff like that.
He completely lost his game for a while and had
to fight to recover it a little bit and then
and then went into television did a fabulous job on that.
But that's the enter demons that work within the individual
(37:08):
because golf is the most individualistic of the sports, you
would say, I mean, if you talk about track and
field or swing and diving, the other individual events, but
a lot of those guys also are involved in relays.
They're part of a team. That sort of thing. Golf,
unless you're on the live circuit, you're or playing in
(37:32):
the Ryder Cup or whatever. Otherwise, it's on you. It's
it's all about you. It's an individual, individualized thing.
Speaker 2 (37:38):
You said, I can speak on it because you're saying
I don't have a golf game.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
No, you have a far better golf game. I just
meant that you studied the game more and are more
aware of the hills and valleys and the the the
ebb and flow and the trials and tribulations. All that
sort of stuff for guys who have the game. But
you just laid it out. For Cameron, much was projected
(38:02):
in forecast for him to be and then he went
through a valley for a while where he really struggled
to even be competitive and then is able to find
it his find his way back either through a combination
of instruction and hard work. There's a mental side of it.
There's a lot involved.
Speaker 2 (38:21):
It's funny because I feel like out of any sport,
it's golf where you have these guys who come up
and you hear a lot about them, especially as their amateurs,
and how they're the next great thing, and they might
come out and they might come out firing. I think
of Matthew Wolfe, you know, the former Oklahoma state cowtboy,
who finished second in the US Open Championship to Bryce
and De Shamba. I think that was twenty twenty and
(38:41):
I saw him play at the match play against George Speed.
I saw him play in the National Championship against Texas,
thinking like, okay, like this, this kid's going to be it.
And then you know, five years later, you know he
falls off the face of the earth. Because as you mentioned,
you know golf, you're out there alone. You know, same
thing with tennis, And I think people will always wonder, hey,
how come you know tennis players always like yelling and
(39:04):
look at the coaches and stuff. And I think it
was Andrea Agassi that said, you're out there by yourself
for four or five hours, Like it's human nature to
want to talk to someone, So you're going to talk
to your coach because that's the only person you can
really talk to when you're not playing. I believe it
has to be well, I don't know what the technical
role is and this, but that's the only one that
you can have the conversations with. But I think it
has to be a certain with golf, your coach cannot
(39:26):
be inside the ropes. You can't talk to him. It's
you can talk to your caddy and that's it. So
you're out there alone. And you know, for for making Frich.
You know, if if he was here today with us
right now, he'd probably say that.
Speaker 1 (39:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
You know, when you're out there and you shoot ninety one,
you feel like you're falling off the face of the earth.
So you know, for some guys, they're able to come
back and find it, which is which is why I
love this Cam Young story because you know, you hate
seeing someone with so much talent and when so much
with a high ceiling just loses their game and all
of a sudden, you know they're no longer on the tour,
they lost their tour car. They're battling and many tours
(40:00):
and the corn Fiery tours. So because now you know
Cam Young, he's going to be able to keep his
card for I think two three years now automatically with
this win.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
So it's awesome to see. Yeah, yeah, very very good
and like I said, a really nice moment, uh, for
for Jim Nantz and for the CBS career. There was
a lot of emotion that thing.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
I mean, Tiger Woods was tweeting about him.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Yep, yep, he really was, and and uh, ib F
himself was it was brought to tears uh. And and
so we're a couple of his combined rates there up
up there with him nobolo I know, and the ones
he was very close to, Trevor Emmerman, who said, you know,
because both of them being from down under. Uh, and
(40:44):
Immerman saying that he was he was, uh, you know,
a mentor to him and someone that he could he
could view as well. So anyway, Uh, that was one
thing I just wanted to get to. I mentioned the
deal and inconceivable uh in the first hour about the
bizarre other golf story we had, but but I did
(41:05):
not really get a chance to get to this this thing.
And now cam next top that X cup? Are you
super excited? I think people were snoring in their cars
right now, yeah, saying that I want to see Scotty
Scheffler repeat yeah, I you know, I don't know that
I'm that, you know, all jazzed up, pumped up, but
(41:26):
I do want to see Scotty make it back to back.
That that would be another feather in the cap, another
thing he's you know, that he makes it back to
back fed X cups. In addition to now having won
three majors and and you know now having having having
won the majors, that he's four majors now for Scotty, right,
(41:49):
So two Masters, PGA and now the Open, yes, right, okay,
so you know, and he's won he won two this year,
so I mean, he's far and away the world's number one.
But every every stamp of greatness that you can put
on your name, every mark of achievement, and winning the
(42:13):
FedEx Cup is a mark of a team, you know.
You know me my favorite, my favorite of the majors
is the Open Championship. However, I've always thought it a
little bit humorous, although I understand it that whoever wins
the Open, it's referred to as the champion golfer of
the year, as they like to say, Well, it might
(42:37):
be on an international level, but it's not on the PGA.
You're not the champion golfer of the year unless you
win the FedEx Cup. And Scott he won it last
year and he's in position to win it this year
if he plays well.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Yeah, and there's only been two multiple time winners of
the FedEx Cup. It's you know, Tiger Woods won it twice.
He went to the first year they ever had it,
and they won in the third year, and then Roy
mulcroy He's won it three times now. So you know,
I'm sure if you add Scotty and his list of
priorities were winning the FedEx Cup ranks, you know, it's
you know, it's probably below the major championships and probably
below the Ryder Cup, and sure definitely below his family
(43:10):
of course, and Bennett, who's done nothing but win as
a young one.
Speaker 1 (43:14):
Imagine growing up in that life, Yeah, constantly winning.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
So but for him, in all seriousness, yeah, you know,
he could win his back to back Fede's Cup championships.
Speaker 1 (43:23):
And get whatever how much money it is now.
Speaker 2 (43:25):
So I think the honestly, what I'm looking for from
these last three weeks on a macro level, you know,
obviously I want Scotty Cheffer with a win, but I'm
curious to see which American and which European players are
playing well because we're heating the Ryder Cup season here.
So yeah, September, you know, once the FedEx Cup Championship binds,
I think two three weeks later, the Americans and Europeans
(43:46):
will be at Bethpage for the Ryder Cup. And hey,
last time these two teams took the golf course. Uh,
the Europeans whipped the Americans butt so, and of course
winning on home soil is a little bit more easier.
But you know a lot of question marks remained about
the American team and what Keithon Bradley's gonna do. Is
he gonna pick himself? I mean he has a great case.
Cam Young just won. But also with the Europeans, you know,
(44:10):
they kind of have a good team set up, but
now some of the European top players are kind of wavering.
So I'm curious to see who's end up playing their
best golf going into these Folcary weeks. But of course
we'd love to see Scotti Scheffer go back to back.
All right, it's not been done. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 1 (44:23):
That's that's another, Like I said, that's another milestone to
check off the list. All right, coming up, we're gonna
hear the first of a couple of parts from Brian Schottenheimer,
the Cowboys coach, because obviously, and this is I'm sure
it's to Jerry's delight relative to headline making, the Cowboys
were talked about throughout the course of a Pro Football
(44:45):
Hall of Fame weekend because it was about Michael Parsons
saying he wanted out, he wanted to trade, he opened
the letter to Cowboy fans and all that sort of stuff.
So we'll hear Jerry Jones, I mean, we'll hear from
Brian Schottenheimer, the head coach. Jerry th it's merely a
negotiating tactic and it may just be that. But we'll
hear from the Cowboys head coach up next here on
(45:05):
Monday afternoon. I'm thirteen under the Zone. Back here on
a Monday afternoon on thirteen hundred the Zone. Long warn
football team on the practice field this afternoon, and then
(45:27):
they'll have another practice spart. We will hear from head
coach Steve Sarkisian following the Tuesday practice. Players have a
day off on Wednesday, and then they get back at
it on Thursday. Say everybody full on and into everything
in the run up to this twenty twenty five college
football season. Here's another one of those, if you want
(45:50):
to call it, this camp signpost is now. It's not
just seeing the preseason polls, which have yet to come out,
the predictions of what the preseason polls will come Let's
all those over the weeks. It'll be interesting. Pol Meanwhile,
in the NFL, work continues. Had the first preseason game,
(46:13):
the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game was on Thursday,
and so everybody has a preseason game coming this week,
including the Cowboys, and the Cowboys continued their work in Oxnard, California.
All the headlines over the weekend, at least with regard
to the Cowboys, surrounded Michael Parsons and his contract dispute.
And he's oh twenty four million on the fifth year option,
(46:36):
but clearly wants more. In his position, the average position
is paying around forty million. He's wanting more. That was
part of the Q and A for the head coach,
but also just about the progress of the team itself.
As we hear from Cowboys head coach Brian Schotenheimer.
Speaker 5 (46:55):
Talked to Michael Parsons about his trade request.
Speaker 10 (46:58):
I've talked to Micah, talk to all of our guys
and uh, great conversations. Not going to share with you
guys what he and I talked about, but uh uh again,
I'll just I know you guys are gonna ask it.
Speaker 1 (47:10):
I get that.
Speaker 10 (47:11):
I'm not going to continue to talk about Mike's contract situation,
a lot of great things going on.
Speaker 1 (47:15):
I get it.
Speaker 10 (47:16):
Seriously, you guys have a tough job to do, and
you're gonna get bored with this press conference if we
keep asking it. But again, had great conversations with him,
you know, you guys know me.
Speaker 11 (47:25):
I'm transparent.
Speaker 10 (47:26):
I talke to all of our guys, always have, always will,
and uh, good conversations.
Speaker 5 (47:31):
Like it will be a distraction in any sort of
way because of obviously we're reporting about it and.
Speaker 4 (47:36):
He's a high player.
Speaker 11 (47:37):
Yeah, I don't think so.
Speaker 10 (47:38):
I think you know, look, our guys are focused on
what we're trying to build. They're trying to They're focus
on what we're trying to build on the field and
the meeting rooms. You know, the as we get closer
to a game week, it is kind of exciting, you know,
and get the rams coming in here next week. So
there's plenty of things for us to focus on. We're
almost through the install So you know, I don't think so.
I can't.
Speaker 11 (47:56):
I mean, you know, look, it's going to be talked about.
We've talked about it.
Speaker 10 (47:58):
Anytime you're sitting in this chair with this organization, there's
going to be things that are are hot topics amongst
the masses, But our guys have a very singular focus
and that's getting better and getting ready to have a
hell of a practice today, Claren.
Speaker 12 (48:14):
To the LLS cowboy. Just from an administrative standpoint, do
you expect him to be at practice as he was
in the past few weeks? I mean, are there any
expectation on how he's gonna move out here going forward?
Speaker 10 (48:26):
I would hope so I would expect to see him
out there today, and again we'll see about that. But
like I said, you know, the conversation and stuff that
he and I have had, you know, we talked about
a lot of different things and all very positive as
you were thinking.
Speaker 12 (48:41):
About becoming a head coach, and a little distractions were
part of that. Cold how do I manage those type
of things?
Speaker 13 (48:48):
I guess when it moves over so to speak, you know,
got all the other stuff that you're envisioned handling off
the field stuff, and how do you go forward with
trying to manage expectations and limited attractions.
Speaker 10 (49:00):
That focused on t Yeah, I think you know, Clarence,
when you look at the situation being around the game
so long, I mean I've always.
Speaker 11 (49:07):
I've always had to deal with the issues.
Speaker 10 (49:08):
You know, I haven't had always step to a mic
every day and talk about them and address it. But
like I said, I've been very open about I think
over the past five or six years, the transparency and
the authenticity that I carry myself with is.
Speaker 11 (49:21):
Never going to change.
Speaker 10 (49:22):
And so when you're a coordinator, there's different distractions and
there's things that you can't control. And when you're the
head coach, you can control those things. And that's not
just how you practice and the practice schedules and the
way you travel and things like that.
Speaker 11 (49:34):
But distractions are are part of the game.
Speaker 10 (49:38):
We limit them, we address the ones we feel like
we have to. And but I'm the same person every
day and I'm not surprised by things that you have
to deal with. I wake up every morning and I
know there's going to be things that I wasn't anticipating happening.
Speaker 11 (49:50):
And you know, I actually I relish those.
Speaker 12 (49:53):
Things, change things on social media to show.
Speaker 6 (49:58):
Us support from Mica.
Speaker 12 (50:00):
Do you support that that part of the brotherhood? You know,
did that get into their head about what's going on
with Mike Good? How did it affects them on the field.
Speaker 10 (50:08):
No, I think It's good that our guys are loving
and support one another. I mean, that's part of being
a team. But again, I don't get caught up in
all that stuff. I mean, again, we get what ninety
one guys here, and again I just you know, I
get I get fueled off of the energy and stuff
that I feel in the meetings and on the practice field.
Speaker 11 (50:24):
That's what fuels me.
Speaker 8 (50:28):
Do you feel caught in the middle in this situation
between Mike and management.
Speaker 10 (50:32):
No, because I'm in communication with everybody. I mean, I'm
talking to the players all the time. I'm talking to
ownership all the time. Steven and Jerry and I talk
all the time.
Speaker 1 (50:40):
Will McLay.
Speaker 10 (50:42):
You know, again, the business side is the business side,
and you know we're not the only team in the
league that's going through this, you know. I mean, it's
it's what happens in big business and with with elite players,
and but no, I think I'm certainly someone that has
the ability to have you know, converse stations and and
taking a lot of information and I'm able to look
(51:04):
at things from him from all sides and then communicately
directly with with the people that it affects.
Speaker 8 (51:09):
Then what have been your impressions of the past rushers
not named like a so farign camp.
Speaker 10 (51:16):
Really, some guys have jumped out. Sam Williams having a
hell of a camp. You nobody's surprised by that, just
because the the we know the type of athlete he is,
the speed, the power.
Speaker 5 (51:27):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (51:28):
You know, Donovan Azerakuho has shown up for sure. We've
talked about him a little bit. Just his first step
quickness is really incredible. Uh, the ability to run games
and the suddenness of the games. Dante Fowlers having a
great camp. You know, Marshawn's doing some good things. So
really most of those guys have showed up. Uh, they're
given our tackles, you know, great work and from the inside,
(51:48):
you know os is always going to do his thing.
Solomon's been great, Mazzi's been pushed in the pocket. But
uh again, I love I love the competition. You guys
saw a little bit yesterday or two days ago. I
guess we did the one on ones. That was fun
film to watch, you know, watch the not just the receivers,
dbs and tight ends and safeties and backs, linebackers. But
I always default to watching the big guys and watch
(52:10):
them go, you know, bad a little bit because when
you have pads on that stuff to get you excited.
But I will think that, you know, again, we can
create problems with people because of the way we play,
initially with the attack front, but also with the depth
that we have on the defensive line.
Speaker 7 (52:26):
I'm sure, boy, what did you guys like about layout talents?
Speaker 1 (52:30):
How do you think he gets pretty?
Speaker 11 (52:32):
He looks amazing. You know.
Speaker 10 (52:33):
I was here when Elsie came back a year or
two ago, whenever it was, and when I saw him yesterday,
I was like, Wow, he's he's really he's he's thin
in a good way. He looks like he's been busting
his ass and obviously the experience, we feel great about that,
and it.
Speaker 11 (52:49):
Was good to see him.
Speaker 10 (52:50):
The guys were excited to see him, but you know,
just trying to add some veteran, you know, presence in.
Speaker 11 (52:54):
The offensive line. We're beat up a little bit over there.
Speaker 10 (52:57):
But it was good to see him and he looks great.
Speaker 11 (53:00):
Tyler, Yeah, I do, Yeah, I do.
Speaker 7 (53:04):
Nick Harri's four star telegram.
Speaker 6 (53:06):
Other than being on the sideline on the field or
in meetings or whatever, what value has Mike Sparson's broad
while we go back.
Speaker 11 (53:12):
Can I see him teaching the young guys?
Speaker 10 (53:14):
Man, I see him, you know, leaning into you know, Donovan,
you know, teaching guys. You know he attack the offensive
tackle this way. Hey, maybe counter with this or hey
what what did you see there? You know, I mean
almost doing some some some coaching. I think that that's
really really good. And you know, he he does a
really good job of you know, his football instincts are
(53:36):
really impressive. I mean he's very very smart, and he
understands the game. And I love the fact that he's
trying to lead into those guys lean into him and
get them kind of caught up, and you know, they
listen because of obviously what he's done and how he's produced.
And it's been it's been fun for me to kind
of look across the way and see him after maybe
(53:58):
the ones leave and he's got a couple of those
guys as he's talking to about different things, hand placement
and stuff like that.
Speaker 7 (54:04):
With the first team. What if you liked about that competition?
Speaker 1 (54:07):
Love it?
Speaker 11 (54:08):
That's what we want.
Speaker 10 (54:09):
You know again, we're moving some piece around the secondaries.
You guys have known and asked, you know, we're moving
the pieces around a little bit. You know, Doron being
back now has been good for him to get those
reps again.
Speaker 1 (54:20):
Uh.
Speaker 10 (54:20):
Keimon Hall's made some really good plays for us. Uh.
He's an excellent blitzer coming off the edge. That's something
that jumps off the film. Metcha Zion has done a
nice job for a young player. I think you see
some of the skills that we saw coming out of
Kentucky that we really liked. But we'll keep trying different
you know, groups and units. And the biggest thing from
the Nickel is the ability to communicate and talk and
(54:41):
I think offensive we were throwing a lot of things
at them from in terms of tempo shifts, motions, things
like that that they're having to adjust to. And I
will say that the communication has been very, very good
from the Nichols.
Speaker 7 (54:54):
Tommy R.
Speaker 8 (54:55):
Steff Cowboys dot Com. Thirty four days after Miles Garrett,
we're in a trade requesting got a deal done. Yesterday
was thirty four days until you guys open against Philly.
Do you feel like Michael will.
Speaker 10 (55:05):
Be on the field with you, So he's just going
to keep asking those questions When I told you, I'm
just going to keep saying I'm not talking about Mike's
contract situation. Mike's competitor, and I hope to see Mike
out there soon. And when the business gets worked out,
it gets worked out.
Speaker 8 (55:19):
And then we saw some of the tight ends working
with the tackles and practice the other day. How important
is it for them to kind of be on the
same page when they're in line together.
Speaker 10 (55:26):
It's huge, you know, I would say, actually looking back
on last year, that was one of the areas that
we weren't very good at, Tommy, you know, getting the
tackles and tight ends to communicate and talk and so
we do different things, but those group periods where those
guys work together is critical because you're teaching these guys
how to communicate, how to talk, how to share information.
If you think about it, when you look at the
way the game's played, the center gets up there, he
(55:47):
addresses the ball, he makes a point, he has the communication,
and then it's got to get passed up and down
the line. One of the things that the music does,
other than just you know, create energy, is it makes
our guys have to truly talk because it's a little
out at times, especially when we're on the far end
down by the speakers and those guys have really done
a nice job. It's a credit to Connor and Clayton
(56:08):
and then of course l dub that those guys are doing.
Speaker 11 (56:11):
A much better job. But without those periods where.
Speaker 10 (56:14):
They're working together and they're communicating, we're changing the looks
on them from the front, whether it's a you know,
tackle bubble tackle covered look. Without making them do that
in a group period, it's never going to be as
good as it should be in the team period. So
that's why you do those reels.
Speaker 7 (56:29):
Joe White Tell's previews. You've talked a lot about your
coaching inspirations throughout.
Speaker 1 (56:32):
Your time being because stand obviously your dad.
Speaker 7 (56:35):
In terms of handling the tough situations.
Speaker 8 (56:37):
Kind of like we got right now, who've inspired you
and what lessons could you do?
Speaker 10 (56:43):
I think I took a little bit from everybody, you know, Joe.
My dad was always very fourth right, very upfront. I
think that's where I get my ability to have, you know,
real authentic, sometimes hard conversations. But again I think you know,
at the end of the day, I'm who I am,
and when I bring a player in, whether it's a
good thing or a bad thing, whether it's a hard topic,
(57:04):
whether it's a great exciting topic, whatever it is. You know,
I'm going to always be authentic. I'm always going to
be true to who I am, and I don't shy
away from having real conversations with these guys, just like
I don't shy away from having real conversations with the
coaches and my family. And that's just the type of
person I am. I would rather get everything out on
the table and have us at least understand where we're
(57:27):
coming from on both sides of it, and at the
end of the day, I can I can deal with that,
and sometimes people like what I say, sometimes they don't,
But at the end of the day, it's coming from
a place of that I care and I'm committed to
doing what's best for this team to win a championship.
Speaker 7 (57:43):
Last practice or you expected to be out there.
Speaker 11 (57:45):
Yeah, I think you know.
Speaker 10 (57:46):
I'll find out when I go in there a little
bit today, but it could be a couple of days
for him.
Speaker 11 (57:49):
But again, nothing that we're worried about.
Speaker 1 (57:51):
Well health as always a question. Therefore, Son, We're going
to hear more from Brian Schoenheimer coming up next hour.
We'll be back to wrap up Hour number two coming
up here on Actually, we've got some more to get,
some other notes to get to before we wrap up
our number two on thirteen under.
Speaker 3 (58:07):
The Zone, it's the Craig Way Show with the voice
of the Texas Longhorns in Hall of Fame broadcaster Craig Way.
Speaker 1 (58:23):
Backside to the three o'clock hour. As we continue here
on thirteen under the Zone, the we just heard from
Brian Schtenheimer, the Cowboys head coach. You're still feeling You're
feeling okay about things with the Cowboys. You should you
were more optimistic? Should you were more optimist? I was
(58:45):
than just that.
Speaker 2 (58:46):
I don't think Michael Parsons will get traded. Right for
a second, like put yourself in Schottenheimer's shoes, right, You
finally get a head coaching job, which is what you've
always wanted with the Dallas Cowboys, and in your first
training camp, your best defensive player is requesting a trade
because the owner of the team, your boss, is kind
of dilly dallying around with us resigning this said linebacker.
(59:11):
That's kind to be terrible for him, but hey, it
comes with being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys.
And kind of, like I've said, in this program. You know,
now we've done the show together with two three seasons. Now,
this is what Jerry Jones is.
Speaker 1 (59:27):
Man.
Speaker 2 (59:27):
He he loves his press conferences, he loves the media circus,
and like, I've had people come up to me like, Hey,
what do you think of this?
Speaker 1 (59:35):
I just I think it's Jerry Jones.
Speaker 2 (59:36):
I mean, I think, honestly, Michael Parsons will probably resign
the week before A week one starts before the Cowboys
play the Eagles, and we'll forget about this and then
we'll be on the next season. Whoever, the next big
free ation is for the Dallas Cowboys. I don't even
remember who that'll be, but it's just kind of rints
and repeat. But man, for Shottenheimer, she she's got to
(59:58):
be going back home to his or to his hotel
in Oxnard.
Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
Back to the Resident Marriott residence in I think is
where they headquarter.
Speaker 2 (01:00:06):
And thinking like, man, like can't I just have a
camp without this? But hey, this is how Jerry Jones
and Stephen Jones liked.
Speaker 1 (01:00:13):
The up Break. Would it be safe to say that
Brian Schottenheimer in some sense, in some sense kind of
I don't know necessarily about saw it coming, but he's
kind of used to it because he's been around the
Cowboy staff.
Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
When there any other issues like that, you think so,
especially last season seeing how it went down with Ceedee Lamb.
Speaker 1 (01:00:35):
Yeah, he got a glimpse of that.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
He was part of that, and so going into this
season knowing that Michael Parsons, I mean, I think if
you ask any Cowboy fan or any media or any
member of the media, like, hey, are you surprised like
we're here at this point in August?
Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
No, Now the.
Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
Trade request maybe a little, but I think that's just
good negotiation tactics. Tactics on the side of Michael Parsons.
His agent, by the way, it's the same agent that
got the Shawn Watson's contract fully guaranteed by the Cleveland
Brown So his agent's not playing around. If you've got
the Shawn Watson who had what twenty seven women come
out a ledging assault against him, he's coming off of
(01:01:14):
torn Achilles, they get a two hundred and fifty million
dollars guaranteed contract. Yeah, tells you his agent's pretty good
at this thing. So not, no, we're already back. Not
to take anything away from you know, from Michael Parsons
and his agent.
Speaker 1 (01:01:28):
They're just doing business.
Speaker 2 (01:01:29):
Business is business, and that you heard what Schoenheimer said
in the press conference last segment.
Speaker 1 (01:01:33):
I mean, it's just this.
Speaker 2 (01:01:34):
Distractions are a part of the business. But hopefully for Schottenheimer,
he had an idea. I mean, if you work for
the Cowboys, you gotta know what is getting yourself into.
Speaker 1 (01:01:44):
Right. Yeah, let me just say this, and I'm gonna
right up front, Okay, I want to make sure people
understand me. I'm not defending Jerry Jones here. I am
only presenting the fact that we have seen this on
him before and he still would get the thing done.
(01:02:05):
Parsons is under contract. He has one year left on
the rookie deal. It's supposed to pay him what twenty
four million I think. Okay, So I know, I know
because I had some other people. A lot of the
rank and file fans would also look at it and go,
dude's making twenty four million dollars this year. Yeah, it's
also what the market will bear because the average of
(01:02:29):
the top guys is about forty one million right now.
So he's wanting to be obviously at or near the
top of that list. And that's understandable. I just think
that the that the that the most pragmatic way this
is going to be achieved is like you said, his
(01:02:53):
agent's not playing around, but if he's, you know, with
with Stephen Jones, because it's going to be Stephen doing
to go. That was made abundantly clear on that first
Aid State of the Team press conference when they said
Jerry doesn't meet with the agents. I mean that was
that was quick. That Jerry doesn't meet with the agents. Okay,
that's fine, But yet Jerry's the one taking a heat,
(01:03:14):
but as he should because he's at he's the head
of the snake and some would say literally and figuratively,
but anyway, he's he's at the top of the organizational chain.
So and by the way, I think Jerry Jones is
correct when he says it's a negotiating tactic, the eye
want outletter and all that. I think everybody understands that
(01:03:34):
that's for negotiation. But Jerry is a shrewd enough businessman.
I think we can all agree on that that he's
not gonna change. That part isn't gonna change. The question
is will there be enough movement? Because you pointed out
the delineation of the agent involved here, will there be
enough movement to get the deal done before the start
(01:03:56):
of the season. And I will say this if it
isn't done. If if I'm Michael Parsons and you're casting
me out there without a new deal on that, that's great.
Don't come knocking at my door when the season's over.
Speaker 2 (01:04:07):
Do you think he'll sit out and take fines and
stuff if he hasn't resigned, Because that's because the worst
thing that could happen, right is if you play and
you get injured, and you get injured, Yep, yep, absolutely,
And I know the insurance policies and things of that nature,
but it's not the same type of money that he
would accrue obviously with a new contract.
Speaker 1 (01:04:27):
I have a hard time envisioning him sitting out. But
nothing surprises me in this anymore. The one of the
NFL note I wanted to get to. I don't know
if you saw the Player Association. It has a new
interim executive director, David White. Remember when the first name
during the last laborer street Lloyd Howell Junior. Nobody knew
who Lloyd Howell? Who Thurst and Howel from Gingos? I
(01:04:51):
know Lloyd Howell Junior. He resigned. How long was his
tenure Three seconds? Yeah, it wasn't real long. I'm looking
at it, looking at it. He resigned a couple of
weeks ago after ten days of reports by ESPN that
he worked part time for the Carlisle Group, which is
(01:05:13):
a private equity firm that is seeking minority ownership in
NFL franchises. ESPN also reported the union in the league
it struck a confidentiality agreement to keep an arbitrator's rulings
about possible collusion by NFL owners from the players, and
then how it charged a pair of strip club visits
to the union. Not good, not good. So less than
(01:05:35):
two years. Yeah, yeah, So he's out. So this new guy,
David White, here's another guy who doesn't you're talking about
guys who don't fool around. CEO of three CG Ventures,
that's an executive, coaching and strategic firm. He's also the
former board chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.
Has extensive labor experience. He served as leader of the
(01:05:58):
sag after a with one hundred and sixty thousand members
who work in the entertainment industry from two thousand and
nine to twenty twenty one, twenty twenty one, remember SAG
going on strike and all of that sort of stuff
so ms around. So this is what's going to be
interesting to see how this is going forward on that.
(01:06:20):
But they have a new at least interim. God all right,
we have more coming up. We will be back to
wrap up hour number two here on thirteen under the Zone.
Third and final hour of the program here on thirteen
under the Zone. Craig Hey joined by the producer Cameron Parker.
Here on a Monday. I hope your Monday has gone
all right. We're gonna hear more from Brian chot Ammer,
the Cowboys head coach, coming up here in this hour
(01:06:42):
as the Cowboys continue their work and also get ready
as the Cowboys are for their preseason opener. Let me
also say this too. We all know, we get it,
trust me, we get it that the preseason now has
(01:07:05):
evolved into just seeing what guys who are fringe players
who have a shot to make the club and how
to you know, how they look on special teams and
some of that stuff. Very little of it now is
devoted to players getting ready for the for the start
(01:07:27):
of the season and I understand both sides of that.
By the way, the last thing in the world you
need to see as a frontline player, especially a quarterback,
but a front line player get a severe injury that
takes away part, if not all, of his season. I
understand that by the same token. The other side of that,
Cameron and I've heard NFL experts say this by players
(01:07:52):
sitting out the entire preseason, and my own, the team
I root for, is as guilty of that, if not
more so than any other team. Sean McVay does not
like to play his number ones at any position throughout
the course of the preseason, and we'll see that on
those play when they play the Cowboys this weekend. But
(01:08:13):
they while I understand that, we've been told that if
you look at comparative injury numbers, sometimes some of the
injuries that we're seeing that can be somewhat extensive, taking
guys out for several weeks or whatever happened because of
game rep conditioning that does not exist in the preseason
(01:08:34):
for most players anymore. You can be physically ready to go,
but not game rep ready in some places.
Speaker 2 (01:08:41):
In some cases, yeah, I mean you go from zero
to sixty. Yeah, you don't these guys don't really participate
in OTAs anymore. I mean, of course they're still doing
their their private workouts with their coach, right.
Speaker 1 (01:08:53):
And they have training camp practices, you.
Speaker 2 (01:08:55):
Know, But then you know some of them are you know,
they may not give it one hundred percent, and then
they don't play the preseason, and all of a sudden,
it's week one. And it's why, honestly, Greig, Week one
in week two are like weeks four and five of
the preseason because it's it's terrible football.
Speaker 1 (01:09:09):
Yeah, that's the other thing. It's not good football, folks. Now,
I think the NFL. I don't know if goodellas as
guilty of this Roger Goodella commissioner, as a lot of
the owners are. But I guarantee a lot of the
owners are like, hey, fans are so glad to have
pro football back. We don't care. Yeah, we'll overlooked the
bad football he did. My team win. Was it a
(01:09:30):
compelling matchup? It doesn't matter it was sloppy. In turn
of I'm pretty sure that's the mindset of a lot
of guys.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
Yeah, I mean, if people cared about how great the
game was, nobody would watch the Super Bowl, because let's
be honest, the class couple of Super Bowls have not
been great in terms of on field product.
Speaker 1 (01:09:46):
But it's NFL football.
Speaker 2 (01:09:47):
And as you said, everyone's just happy to have football back.
You know, everyone's gambling. Everyone has their fancy football team.
You know, they're looking at why this guy, this guy
in the second round he had zero points versus this
guy is fifty points. He's on the waiver wire, who's
gonna grab him? Stuff like that. We're just happy for that.
But with the injury part of it, you lose, you know,
the preseason, but also you know, the season is an
extra game longer now with the NFL, and it's not
(01:10:11):
like these injuries have decreased.
Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
It's a hot topic.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
We see it with the NBA with Jason Tatum and Halliburton,
you know, tearing their achilles. Damian Lillard in that conversation
as well, and we've seen it in the NFL. You know,
just because you play one less preseason game does not
mean you're not going to suffer a season ending injury.
So it's something to you know, always keep an eye
(01:10:34):
on throughout the season. Is is stuff like this, But
I don't know if I don't I don't think they
really can fix the preseason even more. I think for
a lot of these coaches they like it because now
they can see the threes and fours and fives kind
of compete in bolster that last you know, the last
couple of spots.
Speaker 1 (01:10:52):
But you know it's beneficial.
Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
Think about Dak Prescott, right, The reason why Dak Prescott
kind of became the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys
is because he played so well in the preseason when
Tony Romo, you know, was going through his injuries and
then you know, Romo plays in the preseason game against
Seattle ends up suffering what was that career ending injury.
But Dak Prescott, who was pretty much perfect in the preseason,
(01:11:17):
kind of you know, turned some heads. And it's not
like the Cowboys had any other really choices. Maybe they
would have traded for a quarterback, who knows, but Dak
played so well in the preseason. Okay, now hope you
are starting quarterback and next thing you know, you know,
Dak Prescott on his way to what did he win
Rookie of the Year. I think he won Rookie of
the Year Execgue Elliott in his third and then MVP voting.
(01:11:37):
So there is like for the Cleveland Browns, right, if
you're a Browns fan, you're probably more keen on this
preseason because they have nineteen quarterbacks battling for the one
two responts.
Speaker 1 (01:11:48):
And supposedly what Shadeur Sanders, who had the fewest reps
any of them had some leg fatigue or whatever and they.
Speaker 2 (01:11:54):
Had they had to take him out of some of
you know, what I saw today was a graphic and
it was Brown's quarterbacks training camp, Uh completion percentages. Oh
and they listed it and it's like we're like, are
they who are they throwing against?
Speaker 1 (01:12:11):
Like?
Speaker 2 (01:12:12):
Is it is this like just with the scrimmages and stuff.
I mean some of these, like Shanners might be on
the fourth team. You're gonna use his stats up against
Flacco was on the first team against the against the
Burly Crowns defense.
Speaker 1 (01:12:23):
I think we gotta we gotta pump the brakes on that.
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
Like if you're arguing for, hey, Dylan Gabriel should be
the starting quarterback because of his completion percentage in training
camp when he was going up against the threes and
fours versus Flacco, who's going up against the ones, Flaco
was in Indianapolis, right, who is the starting court? I
don't even know who's at the starting quarterback in Cleveland.
It's uh because pickets in.
Speaker 1 (01:12:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
I gott I see, I'm I'm rusty Craig. I don't
even know the starting quarterback for the Cleveland.
Speaker 1 (01:12:48):
Well, like we should, it was gonna be. Well.
Speaker 2 (01:12:49):
The other one is Jameis Winston. When I thought Winston
was in New York?
Speaker 1 (01:12:56):
Was he was? He in? She shows how much we're
keeping up with it. It is flat because Flacco is
the FLA Coast, the incumbent. We were talking about who was.
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
Right, Yeah, it's flatco picket Gabriel and standards or the
other picket was said? I said all four correctly. Okay, yes,
I did not trust myself. So if you're using that,
I think it's just like all right, So maybe maybe
we should use some games. R Winston's with the Giants. Yes,
he's back up for Russell Wilson. So the preseason still
does serve a point. But just because you don't plan
(01:13:25):
it does not mean these players are not going to
be rusty or not going to suffer some sort of injury.
Speaker 1 (01:13:30):
That's just part of the game. Uh. By the way,
for Cowboy fans, if you're wondering if you were going
to see Matthew Stafford on the field against the Cowboys
on Saturday, the answer that it's a big fat no.
Not only you're not going to see Matthew Stafford on
the field against the Cowboys on Saturday night, You're not
going to see Matthew Stafford on the field in the
mixed scrimmage that the Cowboys and the Rams have this week.
You're not going to see that. You get a back issue,
(01:13:52):
and they say they don't think it's serious. But dude
is getting up there in age, and he had been
able to work. But he's had to do his individual work,
they said. And he's doing his individual work just as
you pointed out, the individual training and work. But he's
not in scrimmage work with his teammates right now.
Speaker 2 (01:14:12):
My question is will he be ready for week one
of the NFL seasons?
Speaker 1 (01:14:16):
That's what I'm saying. Forget the preseason, how about the
regular season.
Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
You know who they play week one, Seattle, the Texans, Hexans, Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:14:23):
In la is who they play week one on Thursday?
In case you're keeping note and you're wanting to know. Yes,
there's a game on the NFL Network. It would be
at six o'clock our time on Thursday. Colt's Ravens. So
that's that's on Thurday. So Ellinger, there's a chance to
see Sam on Thursday. Also Thursday, Cincinnati Philadelphia. You're not
(01:14:51):
going to see Jalen Hurts. You're not going to see
Joe Burrow. You're not going to see that. That's just
not going to happen. You want to see Tree hendrickson either. Yeah,
that's exactly right. And also on Thursday, and this is
another NFL Network telecast, so you have you have Colch
Ravens is one, and then the one that follows is
Raiders Seahawks, So Pete Carroll against his former team. So
(01:15:15):
that's that's on Thursday. And then on Friday, Lions Falcons.
Falcons have already said they're not playing either of their
their quarterbacks against the Lions this week. I don't think
you'll see Jared Goff either. The aforementioned Browns play the
Panthers this week on Friday, and the Commanders or whatever
(01:15:39):
people are debating to call them these days, will play
the Patriots in New England. On Friday, and then the
Big the Big Thrust is on Saturday. Giants at Bills,
Texans at Minnesota. It's listed as NFL Network, but there
is always an over the year affiliate around here who
carries the Texans. Preseason is in UH. It might be
(01:16:01):
k X A N and then ki as the Cowboys
I think or kay View. One of them has Cowboys,
one of them has Texans and UH, and that Saturday afternoon, UH,
Cowboys and Rams Saturday evening, Steelers and Jaguars on Saturday evening. No,
You're not going to see Aaron Rodgers on Saturday night.
(01:16:22):
It's not gonna happen. There's a there's a lot of
debate about whether it just if he's gonna be ready
for the opener? Is he gonna be ready? That's that's
the other thing.
Speaker 2 (01:16:32):
He's someone else that you're worried about with having that
rust coming out and just happened in New York where
first played and you know you hear that pop.
Speaker 1 (01:16:39):
Next thing, you know out for the year, the Titans
play at Tampa Bay. Uh. The reports on cam Ward
have just been rave reviews through the roof. There are
people saying he looks as good now as Joe Burrow
did as a rookie coming out that good, they're saying
(01:17:01):
cam Ward looks that good.
Speaker 2 (01:17:03):
He's been very honest about how bad the training Kent
has been for Tennessee. Yeah, even with how good Ward
may have looked, that Titans might be the worst team
in football, not.
Speaker 1 (01:17:12):
Going to be good. Speaking of not good teams, Jets
play at the Packers. That is Saturday night, Chiefs Cardinals. No,
you won't see Mahomes and you know so don't don't
And you won't see Kyler Murray and Broncos and forty
(01:17:32):
nine ers on Saturday night and then on Sunday Dolphin's
Bears and Saints Chargers. So if you were wondering and
keeping track of that and wondering about all of that,
there it is. There's your your NFL schedule for the weekend.
All right. I, Like I said, I'm gonna get to
some baseball notes, but we do want to hear more
(01:17:53):
from Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys head coach, So that'll be
coming up next as we continue here on a Monday afternoon.
Hope you're Monday's going all right? You know, the traffic
going into town wasn't badness. You've heard me say this
theory that I think what the pandemic did was to
change traffic patterns a bit in the Greater Austin area
(01:18:15):
to where a lot of lesser folks are crushing in
on morning drive on Monday now and therefore crushing out
at a reduced rate on Monday afternoon going home, and
maybe a lesser extent on Fridays. The big load in
days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, especially Tuesdays. Tuesdays is still
(01:18:38):
easily the worst commute day of the week. But anyway,
I hope your day's going all right. I hope your
commutes all right if you're already in the car you
headed home here past the four o'clock hour. Here this
afternoon is we'll continue. I'm thirteen under the zone. We're back.
Speaker 3 (01:18:57):
It's the Craigway Show with Hall of Fame broadcast their
invoice of the Texas Longhearts Craig Way.
Speaker 1 (01:19:07):
All right here on this Monday afternoon. We heard from
Brian Schoannheimer in the first hour of the program, and
he talked about business being business with regard to contracts
and stuff of that nature. Before we hear the rest
of shoddy. You know, one of the interesting things is
(01:19:28):
to is to hear Jerry Jones when he does start
talking anytime. Yeah, especially about things like this, the quotes
about the whole thing. This is a negotiation. Does it
blow me up somebody to say, look trade me. That's
just not a flair sign for me at all. In
any way. I know my attitude and mine is the
(01:19:48):
same one that I've had. I love Micah and I
think he's an outstanding player and he can really help us,
but he's got to fit in with what's in the
best interest of the team. And that's what a negotiation
is all about. I'm here and I do what I
do because I love these guys. Frankly, I could be
any place in the world. I want to be right
here in camp. I enjoy these players, I enjoy Micah.
As always in any relationship, there's different moods and different times.
(01:20:12):
This is what this is. Don't lose any sleep over it.
That's one thing I'd say to our fans. Don't lose
any sleep, So Cam don't lose any sleep.
Speaker 2 (01:20:21):
Okay, now I was saying up all night, but now
for that Jerry Jones quote, you're ready for bed finally
get some good rest.
Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
One thing I have noticed about Jerry he has of late,
of late, I mean the last two to three years especially,
I've heard him make that reference that he just made
about I could be anywhere in the else, anywhere else
in the world, I could be doing anything I want
to do. And I know a lot of Cowboy fans say,
whyn't you try that out? But he's but he says,
(01:20:53):
I want to be here, I'm invested the whole thing,
I'm all in all that other kind of stuff. It's
just his perception of it is going to vastly different
from a lot of people, given also the fact that
you know he's the owner and it's going to be
coming from his perspective on it. So anyway, there's there's
(01:21:14):
some thoughts from Jared. Let's hear some more from Brian Schottenheimer,
the Cowboys head coach.
Speaker 7 (01:21:19):
J Cool with Fox four. Forgive me for a one
more question on Micah.
Speaker 2 (01:21:22):
But you know you've talked about, you know, from the
start when he took this role, just how poor.
Speaker 1 (01:21:27):
Relationships are you.
Speaker 7 (01:21:28):
You spoken specifically with Mike about how you can build in.
Speaker 3 (01:21:31):
That relationship going back years, even being on the offensive
side of the ball.
Speaker 2 (01:21:35):
How grateful are you for that and how much can
that serve you in this situation.
Speaker 11 (01:21:40):
I think that's a benefit, Jeff.
Speaker 10 (01:21:41):
I mean, I think the fact that I've been around
and I know a lot of the players, and I'm
not just whatever got the job late January. I'm not
seven months into this thing where I'm still getting These
guys have seen me from AFAR on defense and on
offense really from the time I was consultant, but then
being here the last couple of years, I think they
know me.
Speaker 11 (01:21:59):
I think they know what I'm about.
Speaker 10 (01:22:01):
But again, you know you you do as a as
a head coach when you first take over and you've
been on the offensive side of the ball. I mean,
I've worked extremely hard at developing those relationships with the
defensive guys that maybe I didn't know as well as
the offensive players strictly because I.
Speaker 11 (01:22:16):
Spent so much time with the offense.
Speaker 10 (01:22:20):
And that's why somebody asked the other day, like, why
do you have the offensive coaches go and spend time
with the defensive coaches during stretch and vice versa.
Speaker 11 (01:22:26):
It's not just to talk trash.
Speaker 10 (01:22:28):
It is to get to know them a little bit
and to have some fun because I know how important
that is. And you know, I think it's I'm a
relationship guy man, and I'm never gonna apologize for that.
And some people think, oh, hey, maybe you know he's soft.
I can promise you I'm not soft. You guys saw
that a couple of days ago. But relationships are important
to me because that's what makes the journey fun.
Speaker 7 (01:22:49):
Like Lesn't than you fake Hyer Eelus had a terrific
camp so far.
Speaker 9 (01:22:53):
There was a lot of conjectures in the offseason that hey,
maybe this is the guy that be the fresh Stars.
When I talked to the other day, so, hey, there's
a coaching staf you're to believes and how have you
seen your interaction with the your coaching staffs interaction with him,
and how have you seen that support maybe lead to
the results of.
Speaker 10 (01:23:11):
Seeing Well, First of all, I love that because I
think that's so important. You know, part of our job
as coaches is to build confidence, to make these guys
know that we believe in them. And it doesn't matter
if the first guy on the on the big board
of the ninety first guy, like all these guys can play,
all these guys can help us win and it's our
job to do that. I mean, we talk about Tyler Geydon.
(01:23:33):
You know, Tyler Goyton knows we think he can be elite,
elite all Pro left tackle. And does that make a difference.
Hell yeah, it does because when you talk to Tyler
Guitton about that, or you talk to Kyer about what
a great camp he's having. O.
Speaker 11 (01:23:46):
Man, you know you're seeing things so well.
Speaker 10 (01:23:48):
You're you're reinforcing to him the things that he's already
feeling by his performance on the field, but you're letting
him know that we as coaches and we as the
experts per se that's end. All the time watching the
film and evaluating, we see it as well. And so
doesn't mean you don't coach them hard. It doesn't mean
you don't correct them. But every chance we get to
(01:24:09):
really talk to these guys about how what their ceiling
is and man, we just see it. Man, and you
you should be confident you are playing great. We'd be
missing an opportunity if we didn't take advantage of that.
Speaker 1 (01:24:21):
Cool. I just sad Dallas Cowboys TV.
Speaker 6 (01:24:23):
Troy Price been also a guy that's been making plays
for you throughout camp.
Speaker 11 (01:24:27):
Just how pleased that you've been with his consistency so far. Yeah,
great word consistency.
Speaker 10 (01:24:31):
Love the athlete man, Love the change of direction, love
the quickness that he's shown.
Speaker 11 (01:24:36):
And then you talk about just a competitive guy.
Speaker 10 (01:24:38):
You know, he plays till the whistle's over, and he's
one of those guys that he gets a little chippy
in there with him.
Speaker 11 (01:24:44):
But again, you guys know me.
Speaker 10 (01:24:47):
I love guys that have a chip on the shoulder,
and I think you know TP plays with a chip
on his shoulder and it's very evident when you watch
him play.
Speaker 11 (01:24:55):
And he'll be that way.
Speaker 10 (01:24:56):
A little bit today because we're in pads and it'll
be good with our guys kind of thudding around a
little bit today, Bill.
Speaker 7 (01:25:03):
Joe, CBS Texas.
Speaker 10 (01:25:05):
You talk about positive coaching and stelling confidence in your players.
Is there someone from your past who did that for you,
either growing up or college or.
Speaker 7 (01:25:14):
Anything that.
Speaker 1 (01:25:18):
You know?
Speaker 11 (01:25:18):
Pete was that way.
Speaker 10 (01:25:19):
I mean Pete Carroll coach Spurry wasn't as much that
he was dependent on during the week. He was kind
of that way, and on game day it was juckling
Hyde and I love him to death. You guys know
that I've told a lot of stories about him. I've
learned some swear words from coach Sperry on game day
that I didn't and you guys know.
Speaker 11 (01:25:34):
I do swear too much.
Speaker 10 (01:25:35):
But I'd say the two guys that jump out at
me in terms of that type of deal would be
Pete Carroll and Dan Quinn, two guys I'm very close with,
two guys that you know, we've We've spent a lot
of time together. And but it's not even that I think,
you know I've shared with you guys.
Speaker 11 (01:25:53):
Four or five, six years.
Speaker 10 (01:25:54):
Ago, I was kind of a little bit down and dejected.
I think when I was leaving Seattle about like, you know, man,
I've missed my opportunity.
Speaker 11 (01:26:00):
To be a head coach.
Speaker 10 (01:26:00):
And I did a really deep dive into myself and
what really mattered to me. And I look back and
I said, what I remember about winning the national championship
with Florida was more of the people. I don't remember
the exact score of the game when we beat Florida State.
I don't remember the score of the game the first
game of the year, but I remember times in locker
room hanging out with my teammates. James Bates, Lawrence Wright,
(01:26:22):
Sammy McCorkle. You know, I kill your I mean, I
remember that. And so it's the people side of it.
And I think sometimes in today's day and age, you
get caught up in the madness of the business and everything,
and you realize that you know what matters and what
you're going to remember is the people side of it.
And I think that's why I have not had the
chance to really look at it. But why I love
(01:26:42):
Hall of Fame Weekend so much is because I think
you see these incredible athletes and they finally get the
call to go into the Hall of Fame, and it's
like they realize as they're looking out over not only
their families and the fans and the people that help
them get there, but they're looking at again their peers
and the ones that they played with and alongside. And
that's what matters, man, It really is what matters.
Speaker 11 (01:27:04):
And so yeah, that's kind of the way I'm wired.
Speaker 7 (01:27:10):
He scruggs NBC five. You mentioned the rams coming in here.
Speaker 3 (01:27:14):
What do you use that practice time for your running
backs to get your evaluations about how you where are
you going to stop these guys and go over the season.
Speaker 4 (01:27:23):
Yeah, you do.
Speaker 11 (01:27:24):
You get a ton out of a number one.
Speaker 10 (01:27:25):
I mean, you have a ton of respect for Sean
and his staff and they were so easy to work
with last year when we when we had the scrimmage
against them.
Speaker 1 (01:27:33):
You know.
Speaker 10 (01:27:33):
But in terms of the running backs, right, you know,
you're looking at different front you're looking at different matchups,
you're looking at different linebackers. Like, you know, our guys
are kind of getting a field. There's a scouting report
out on each other, right, Like if you're Javante and
all of a sudden, San Morn is gonna blitz, like
you kind of have an idea because they've been going
against each other for so long. Okay, he's gonna take
me all with his near pad, or hey he's gonna
fake left.
Speaker 11 (01:27:53):
And go right.
Speaker 10 (01:27:54):
So I think it's just going up against the different jersey,
going up against some different looks, some different fronts. And
uh On and his staff have been great to work with,
and you know, they're they're a damn good football team.
Speaker 11 (01:28:05):
They're physical.
Speaker 10 (01:28:06):
You know, we'll be smart with who we play in
the preseason, you know. So it's a chance for you
to get a lot of really really good work with
maybe some guys that aren't going to play in the preseason.
And again, just you know, I talked two days ago
and we've kind of finalized the practice schedule and it
should be a hell of a competition.
Speaker 7 (01:28:23):
You're halfway through these sixty practices of camp. Anything you
really like, anything you don't like it, you want sh
up going into the second half the camp.
Speaker 10 (01:28:30):
I think we're taking care of the football better. I
like that, you know, I think early on we return
it over a little bit too much. I think offensively,
the big plays are starting to show up. We're starting
to connect on those. You guys asked me about that
the other day that normally takes time. I love the energy,
I love the physicality. I've talked about how we're trying
to create calluses and things like that.
Speaker 11 (01:28:52):
And I love all the reps we're getting. I mean
really like, you know.
Speaker 10 (01:28:56):
We're going to mix in a little bit of seven
on seven and nine on seven at some point, but
I mean we're getting upwards of sixty five to sixty eight,
seventy plays of eleven on eleven and it's it's it's
been really really good, and we're getting a lot of
guys rolling through and the evaluation process is ongoing, and
(01:29:16):
again that doesn't slow down as you get, you know,
into these game week preps. You know, preseason is not
about pulling back, you know, it's about pressing ahead.
Speaker 11 (01:29:24):
And that's kind of what we'll do.
Speaker 7 (01:29:28):
For a guy like John Stevens, he's had a couple
of bad drops, but he's come up with such a
rigorous last couple of years.
Speaker 10 (01:29:33):
What's the message down, Yeah, Hey, you're growing, you're getting back.
You know, you're just your You're it's it's it's almost
like going through a version of rehabilitation. You know, you've
you've done the rehab to get your body to where
you can be out on the field, and now you're
running and your body's going so fast and you're like,
oh man, i'm open. I'm going to catch this, and
then you want to catch it and you want to
turn up field and so you drop it. Zero concerns
(01:29:53):
about his ball skills, He's got to lead ball skills,
but you know, you point out the great things he's doing.
You know, guys with guys like that, you always point
out the things that they're doing really well.
Speaker 11 (01:30:04):
And how amazing is.
Speaker 10 (01:30:04):
That you're back already and you didn't start on pup
and man, what a testament to you. And hey, you're
gonna kick the rust off and don't worry about that,
and uh, that goes along way with these guys.
Speaker 7 (01:30:14):
All right, sorry, it's.
Speaker 4 (01:30:20):
Oh yeah, you go next.
Speaker 7 (01:30:23):
Uh you had a stay day after day. I believe
why you continue that?
Speaker 1 (01:30:28):
What do you like?
Speaker 10 (01:30:29):
Yeah, I've told you know, these guys that if they
give me everything that we want as a coaching staff
in terms of the energy and the running and the
chasing and the pursuit and all that stuff that you know,
we will take care of you know them and give
them days like that where we're gonna meet. We're going
to give you a chance to catch up on film.
That's the other thing that the meetings get longer, and
(01:30:50):
so you're able to kind of uh, you know, stay
up to you know, par and get caught up on
some of the film.
Speaker 11 (01:30:55):
But let's take care of these guys.
Speaker 10 (01:30:57):
And you got ninety one guys whatever, And so the
resources they do get spread thin at times, and so
it's about the folks of Okay, we're not practicing today,
but you are competing every day to get your body
back to where it is. So we can throw a
hell of a practice today.
Speaker 11 (01:31:13):
So again.
Speaker 10 (01:31:15):
Day No, I mean again, there's different versions of what
is a VET day? Do you just not go out
there with any stuff on? There's different versions of that.
You know, some guys you want to be smart with
it's a physical, physical game. But no, we're we're a
team and we're a family, and therefore we're going to
try to act that way all the time. Are there
certain things that do change it from time to time,
of course, but but no, we like having everybody out
there working and watching and leaning into one another.
Speaker 1 (01:31:39):
So now hopefully you have your Brian Schottenheimer fixed at
least for a day or two, and we'll see how
Cowboys training camp progresses. We do that. We bring you
the shoddy sound for a couple of reasons. One, we
know there's a lot of Cowboy fans like Cameron, some
less suffering than Cam or less jaded, I would say,
and then there's some who are more. But there are
(01:32:02):
Cowboy fans with an interest in the team, and that's
part of the reason why we bring in this. So
I would say, also, and you agree or disagree with
me if you want Kim, there's going to be a
certain amount of curiosity, maybe even fascination, interests clearly in
what Brian Schottenheimer's going to do with this football team.
(01:32:22):
It sounds like a fresh voice, a fresh approach, even
when you have a situation like what the Cowboys are
having to deal with with Micah Parsons, which is something
that's ongoing no matter who the head coach has been.
I agree.
Speaker 2 (01:32:34):
I think he's a great football mind and a good
football coach. Now, what can you do with this roster?
There's questions about the offensive line, especially with Tyler Guiden's injury.
He's out for all the training camp in the preseason.
There's a lot of youth overall. The running back. I
found out today Craig that Miles Sanders is on the
Dallas Cowboys roster. I swear to god, I did not
(01:32:55):
know the Cowboys had signed him until Schadaheimer is talking
about his injury, which is a great you know, so,
Jayden Blue, congratulations, You're running back one for the Donas
Cowboys this season.
Speaker 1 (01:33:04):
So there's some.
Speaker 2 (01:33:05):
Questions there, But from what I've heard about Schottenheimer and
his offense and what I've heard from Dak Prescott, I'm
excited about that part. But there's still courts to the
Michael Parson stuff and then just the overall health of
the team that you do worry about. But yes, I
would say I'm cautiously optimistic. But having said that, the
(01:33:26):
Philadelphia Eagles are the best team in the NFC by far,
and my my I had the Cowboys have probably about
eight or nine wins.
Speaker 1 (01:33:35):
That's that's my expectation, is eight or nine get him
in the playoffs? Yeah, Well, my thing depending on who
they beat and who they lose to.
Speaker 2 (01:33:43):
Right, if Michael Parsons is playing for the Cowboys or
if he's playing for the Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (01:33:47):
Ram, I don't see that happening. I don't see him playing.
I hope not. I see him either as playing for
the Cowboys or in the worst case for Cowboy fans scenario,
sitting out. And I don't think he'll sit out because
Cowboys would still own it would still be oh to
ear from him. Well, here's you set out.
Speaker 2 (01:34:07):
Honestly, I could see himIt up maybe like one or
two game right, right, So it's that week.
Speaker 1 (01:34:10):
One, remember Jerry made reference to that, like what Emmett
did in nineteen ninety three. Now Michael Parsons is very talented,
but he's not EMMITTT. Smith in his prime. And Emmett
was in a position to do that in ninety three,
sat out in the first two games, he'd lost the
first two games. Jimmy got all of Jerry's face. You
got to get him in here, got him in here. Boom.
They go on and they make it back to back
Super Bowls, and Emmitt is a Super Bowl MVP in that. Well,
(01:34:30):
there you go.
Speaker 2 (01:34:31):
You know, maybe Mike has taken a paget of that.
I mean, I think about it. With Week one against
the Eagles, he sits out. Let's say, Hurtz throws for
three hundred yards, he has, you know, four touchdowns, a
rushing touchdown, the Eagles look onstop of all, the Cowboys
look inferior.
Speaker 1 (01:34:47):
They win forty one thirteen or something like that.
Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
Who's going to be it's Jerry will be asked one
hundred times about Hey, if Michael Parsons was playing in
this game, Jay will say no, no, no, no. But
then he all go back to his office and think,
you know what, we probably need eleven on the field.
Speaker 1 (01:35:02):
So hey, if.
Speaker 2 (01:35:04):
Micah and his agent, shoot, okay, I'll say on Week one,
I'll watch this team get blown out by the Eagles,
because even with.
Speaker 1 (01:35:10):
Michael Parsons, I think I still lose that game. Craig, Yeah, right, right, still.
Speaker 2 (01:35:14):
I mean the Emmett observation there or that you know
that nugget Hey, it makes sense.
Speaker 1 (01:35:19):
So I think Mike right now has the leverage.
Speaker 2 (01:35:21):
Now, if it's week six at that point, then it's
hurting both sides because you need Michael Partson's on the field.
Speaker 1 (01:35:29):
The stark differences for anybody that might texting go wait, man,
you're not compared. No, no, no, not compared. I was. I
was talking about comparative situations, not comparing Michael Parsons to him.
At Smith. Everybody knew what EMITTT. Smith's value was going
into that contract hold out in ninety three. Also two
(01:35:49):
major differences between then and now. Ay, the Cowboys were
defending Super Bowl champion okay, as opposed to not having
been to the conference championship game in now thirty years
are going on thirty years okay. A B. The Cowboys
had a very very very strong will personality as their
head coach, Jimmy Johnson stood on an equal ground with Jerry.
(01:36:12):
That's what got Jerry messed up angry and what ultimately
led to the split. Jimmy stood on equal ground and
he had the power the hammer to go in there
and say you got to get him in there now.
Brian Chottnahmer didn't have that. So there's there are vast
differences between then and now. I'm just talking about the
difference between what happened when the star player did choose
to hold out, then the contract got done. But the
(01:36:35):
Cowboys were Super Bowl caliber as we know, they were
defending champion and came back to win it. This team
is not of that caliber, not now anyway. All right,
we've got some baseball to get to. Next on thirteen
Under the Zone.
Speaker 3 (01:36:50):

the text line by text Team Texas to eight one
five three zero, followed by your message. Standard message and
data rates may apply.
Speaker 1 (01:37:02):
Talked a lot of football on today's program. I want
to shift to Major League baseball coming off of the
trade deadline and into the weekend, and how things went
over the weekend, first of all for the Rangers, and
that series with Seattle kind of played out like a
(01:37:22):
Pennant race series would or should. Now, whether you're rooting
for the Rangers or the marriage is immaterial. What I'm
talking about is the intensity of that weekend. The way
the Rangers one Saturday, the way they lost the other
two ball games that had wild card race, postseason implications
written all over it did.
Speaker 2 (01:37:42):
Yeah, you go into that series tied with Seattle, five
games back from Houston and the l West, but also
your tie for that final wildcard spot, and you go
to the Seattle where they have just have not played
well out of the last two years, have not played
well in Seattle this season, and it continued all all
four games. You know they could have won, I mean yesterday,
(01:38:05):
just a back and forth affair. And the troubling part
of it is, you know, you put Jacob de Gram
on the mound, who's been excellent in Game four, and
you know he supposed to All Star Break Craig his
era is plus six.
Speaker 1 (01:38:19):
You know it's not good.
Speaker 2 (01:38:20):
Jack Peterson since coming back from jury two for twenty
five no extra base set.
Speaker 1 (01:38:24):
Can I just say something about Jack Peterson? He stinks well.
Linda and I of course are a huge Dodger fan,
so we were. He was on their twenty twenty World
Cheery team. He looks a little chunky. He does, doesn't
He looks a little Luca pre pre weight loss. By
the way, did you see Luke at the press conference?
Didn't look like anything was was airbrush there. He looked
(01:38:46):
pretty chiseled. Hey, I'm saying he lost the weight. I'm
just saying that.
Speaker 2 (01:38:51):
I think Men's Health or whatever magazine cover he was.
Speaker 1 (01:38:53):
On touched up the photo. You're saying touched it up
a little bit. Well, Jack Peterson needs him touching up. Yeah,
he he needs more than that. Great. Well, I think
Dawaite has something to do with it. Oh, I'm sure. Uh,
he's he's a little little chunky. I was surprised this
first time i'd seen him in a while. And watch
the gameer like, look at Jock, and if.
Speaker 2 (01:39:16):
He keeps playing like this, Craig, he'll be looking chunky
in Japan or in Korea because he's hitting the ball
off and it's it's it's been terrible. And then of
course the tallest car seat in the ninth not sliding.
That just just kind of more and more and more things.
But fortunately you still got two months of baseball left
and kind of, you know, it's a little reminiscent of
the team two years ago. You know, they dropped a
(01:39:38):
couple of big series to Seattle and Houston down the stretch. So, uh,
the season is not over with yet, but at this
point the margin ferrer is a little bit slimmer.
Speaker 1 (01:39:49):
But you are worried a little bit. I'm a little
bit worried.
Speaker 2 (01:39:50):
About de Gram and how he's how he's been pitching
since the all start breaking. Then with Jock Peterson at
this point, like do you send him down the round
rock and kind of hope for that Josh Young that
bump just because at this he's not hitting anything. Craig like,
I think at least in the round rock, can just
kind of have him just kind of get back in
the rhythm in the flow of things because he's doing
(01:40:12):
right now, is not it?
Speaker 1 (01:40:14):
You mentioned that for all there's plenty of time. Yeah,
they actually gained ground on the Astros because the Astros
were swept by the Red Sox for the first time
in twelve years, that back to back sweeps, Yeah, by
as Sacramento whatever we're calling they say, the Athletics and
then and then got swept by the Red Sox first
(01:40:36):
time since twenty thirteen. They're lead over Seattle's down to
two and a half in the West Rangers of four
and a half back, they're in the stolen the Division race.
For that. That was one of the unique things that
happened during the weekend. The other thing is first time
ever the Marlins swept the Yankees. Wow, Marlin's been around
(01:40:57):
since nineteen ninety three. They've been around for thirty two
years time now. They didn't start interleague play until ninety seven.
But still it's the first time they've ever swept the Yankees.
They swept them, and yet the Yankees are only four
and a half back. The Blue Jays have been stumbling
late after they were white hot. They've now dropped six
of their last ten. The Red Sox now have won
(01:41:19):
eight of their last ten, and they pulled them in
three games of first place. There. The Tigers have been
five and five last ten ball games. They're still comfortably
in front of the Guardians in the Central eight games.
Something we mentioned the American League West, with the Astros
up two and a half on the Mariners and four
and a half on the Rangers. In the National League,
(01:41:41):
Phillies taking two out of three of the Tigers of
the weekend, but they've only won five of their last ten,
same with the Mets, and the Mets are only a
half game back. Don't look now, the Marlins are level
five hundred. They're fifty five and fifty five. They're six
games back in the wild Card. So they got ways
to go yet, but at least to playing better. The
(01:42:01):
Brewers have been the hottest team. They won seven of
the last ten. They've been torching people. They scored fifty
six runs in a three game weekend series and we're
just tremendous. I know the Nationals are not good, but
in that series they set their own team record, franchise
(01:42:25):
record for most hits in a three game span with
fifty six. They won fourteen to three. Yesterday they broke
their their most record of fifty two hits done at
that time. So yeah, they've been pretty good and they're
(01:42:46):
gonna be They're gonna be tough to beat them. There.
They are right now setting the pace for number one
overall record in Major League Baseball, which could be pretty
big if it ultimately turns out that way. That's in
the central of the Cubs or two games back of them.
They'd be the top wildcard right now, and in the West,
the Dodgers have kind of treaded water. They won six
(01:43:08):
of their last ten. They went five and four on
the road trip, but hey, they're like nine and fourteen
since the fourth of July and the Padres are only
three games back. So yeah, there's still a lot that
is unsettled about those two. So it'd be interesting to
see how it goes the rest of the way for that.
And then the last thing I wanted to get to
with regard to baseball is that crazy thing. Did you
(01:43:33):
watch any of the braves red Saturday night in continuation
to Sunday with regard to the Speedway Classic at Bristol
Motor Speedway. Did not watch it.
Speaker 2 (01:43:46):
I was following, of course, the coves and social media
and you know, the time lapse videos of how they
constructed the ballpark inside of Bristol.
Speaker 1 (01:43:56):
That was cool, awesome.
Speaker 2 (01:43:57):
I love that the player intros was sick with the Yeah, with.
Speaker 1 (01:44:01):
The four tire change that was going.
Speaker 2 (01:44:03):
On, with the direction Profar coming out and this seeing
how he was kind of smiling as he came out
into the field, was sick. And then you know, of
course it's raining, Uh yeah baby, And then I believe
they sold out of They ran out a hot dog
bunk before the game even started, so it looked awesome,
But then the reviews from fans said it was an
awful experience over around because of the rain and everything,
(01:44:27):
because just the concessions right now, they weren't they were
not ready for the amount of people that were.
Speaker 1 (01:44:32):
Which is crazy, because they're ready when they have a race. Yeah, there,
they have one hundred and fifty five thousand when they
have a race there.
Speaker 2 (01:44:39):
Yeah, I wanted that's it's an MLB thing? Is that
a they were looking for?
Speaker 1 (01:44:42):
Like eighty five Now Major League Baseball thing was largely
running this thing. Okay, so I think that was the deal.
The money. Linda kept asking because we were watching Saturday
night until they had they couldn't play anymore, and it
was in the first inning after a long delay, and
then came back yesterday and while I was watching Dodgers
and Race, I was flipping back and forth to it,
and she said, how much money do you think was
(01:45:05):
put into getting this racetrack ready for a game? And
it's millions. When they brought it, they said some ridiculous
number like seventeen thousand tons of gravel or something to
level out the entire surface so that it would play
like a baseball playing surface. But then when it rained
(01:45:25):
and rain and rain on Saturday, you can see it
all puddling up. It looked like you were trying to
run across a melted candy bar. It was just a mess.
But they did a good job to get a playable
for Sunday. So they did do that, and they were
able to play it, and the Braves ended up winning
that game. Doesn't matter, neither of those teams going to
wind up the postseason. All right, we'll be back to
wrap up today's edition of the program. I'm thirteen under
(01:45:46):
the Zone.
