Ethan Mendoza an RBI opposite field single plates two more

up the middle of a said that will score Windfield
from third day stopping at second as Mendoza Ryland Galvan
continues his hot hand. Is twenty seventh RBI the season,

(00:44):
and it's five to nothing Texas.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
The pitch swung on in a fly.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
Ball hit out toward left, deep enough to get a
run home as the left fielder walker will make the
cash tagging at third and coming in the score is
Ethan Mendoza. The sixth run across the plate in this inning,
and it's now six hunting Texas and swinging here as
Shuschler's that lifts a high fly ball to left field.
You can forget about this one. Say good night to

(01:10):
it as he drives it over the bullpen wall. Kimball
Shusler with his flir in the whole run of the season,
and it's seven.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
To two Texas.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Here's a stretch now, the one ball, two stripe pitch
coming to easton Winfield and he swings here and hits
the ball well out toward deep left center back with
kerry to the warning track and it's off the front
fencing of the jetty yard. Jaque Stewart around third headed
for home. He slides in easton Windfield with an RBI

(01:41):
double the opposite way, and Texas now leads.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
It eight to two.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Here's a one ball, one stripe pitch to Mendoz and
it'll drop in for a base hit coming into Scores
Windfield easton.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
It turned the corner and was a third.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Of the way down the lines, so we just kept
steaming home and he scores. It's nine to two Texas.
Here's a stretch now from floors to look back to
second of the pitch. This is a line shot clocked
excellent diving grabb by Jalen floors in the whole that's
will in the inning.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Here's the pitch swung.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
All that's gonna be lined into the alley left center field.
Two runs will score on the play. Mendoza digs per
second an RBI doubled from Ethan Mendoza to scored Jonah
Williams and Easton Winfield and the long Horns down lead
at eleven to two. Aiden Moffett looks in. Now here's
the stretch from Moffatt in the right handers. One ball,

(02:30):
two strike, pitch to Edwards, strike three call, and that
will do it. The Long Horns will win this one
on the ten run mercy role. The strikeouts of Parker
Edwards ends the ball game aide. Moffatt hits a batter,
walks a batter, and then strikes out the side to

(02:51):
end this game. In the top of the seventh, no runs,
no hits, two left. Final score in seven innings the
jacksas Long Oorns two twelve the eight CU Huskies two.
It was a little bit different look last night at
fair at the Ballpark for Texas and the log Horns

(03:14):
run ruling a good Houston Christian team. By the way,
this wasn't the team that came in last year that
the log Horns beat twenty to three. This was one
that was on top of the Southern Conference standings coming
in at twenty and ten coming in. But the Loghorns
with that six run second blowing the game open and

(03:34):
they go on to get the win. They're now twenty
seven and four, leaving tomorrow for Lexing, Kentucky, another road series.
Of course, the long Horns has swept their first two
roads series in Starkville and in Columbia. This one will
be more difficult playing in Lexing, Kentucky. Good afternoon, everybody.
Welcome to the program here on sports Radio AM thirteen

(03:55):
hundred The Zone. My name is Craig Way. Glad to
have you with us, Always good to be with you.
I can't tell you the last time I had two
consecutive days in the studio.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
It was nice. Same story for the producer Cameron D. Parker.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
The D on the bursar TI gets stands for Dallas
as in his favorite pro football team he hasn't paid
attention to in months. But I don't know what the
D would stand uh on the on a master's par
three day Dunlop you know the will Max fly golf.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
Balls he used to hit.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
They used to hit the old dunlop Max fly golf balls.
They still make Max fly, don't they.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
I think so?

Speaker 3 (04:33):
Yeah, people, Now obviously my send for Dunk Dik because
Kicking Browley just dunked one in. Uh there's a hole
on the sixth for the only hole in one I
think so far, so it would be anything. But it
is a Wednesday at the Masters, and or one day
away from from meaningful golf.

Speaker 2 (04:51):
I cannot wait.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Yeah, the the par three Challenge as they call it,
is underway today at Augusta is is. I guess they
still keep score of it, don't they. You several guys
kind of decube themselves by letting their kids hit or.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yeah, the first shot of the par three contest was
Jordan Speith and he let his son Sammy hit the
first shot, so he immediately disqualified himself from from the competition.
But yeah, right now, Nicholas Echavaria from Columbia, actually right
now is time for the lead with JJ Spahn.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
So there's guys out there that are competing.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
Then you got like Bubba Watson, Marco Meira, you know
guys who have no shot actually winning the Masters. Who
are you know, participating in this contest not really caring
about the chinks or not. But then you know, most
of the guys who you think you would contend or
would want to win, like Scotty, like Spieth, like Roy,
you know, they will disqualify themselves, which is basically just
letting their wife or girlfriend or their their young one

(05:48):
hit a shot so that does not count toward their
score total.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
I gotcha.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Okay, So, uh, Bubba Watson is a former champion, two
time champion, yep, So you're saying he has no shot.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
No, Bubba Watson has not played any good golf and
I don't know five years, okay.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
I mean he's a live tour guy now, isn't he?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Yeah he is, okay, getting that guaranteed check to not
do anything successful at all on that tour.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
The current position right now is thirty six in the
live golf standings. I think there's only like sixty golfers
on there, so I'm.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Not doing yeah, yeah, okay, all right, all right, so
he has no shot. So you know, obviously all the
eyes are certainly going to be on Scottie Scheffler and
maybe on Rory McElroy because you know it's the one
major that he has yet to claim. Correct, He's won

(06:40):
all the other majors, Rory, he.

Speaker 2 (06:42):
Needs the green jack to jacket to complete the career
Grand Slam.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Okay, I have always found this intriguing, if not fascinating.
And by the way, coming up here in a few minutes,
we're gonna hear more from long worrn set football coach
Steve Sarkeg because the team's back on the practice field
and so we'll hear from Sark more from that media availabile.
We only brought you a little snippet of it yesterday
because we had an abbreviated truncated program because of the

(07:09):
link of the Round Rock Express game.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
So we're going to bring you some more of that.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Let you hear some more from Sark Coming up, we
do have inconceivable this hour as well, in the three
o'clock hour, Hey Luca. Back in Dallas tonight, Mavericks Lakers.
First of all, Cameron's feeling better about his Oklahoma City Thunder.
He said he wasn't going to put too much stock
in the lakers one six ninety nine win over the Thunder.

(07:36):
Because the Thunder promptly turned around and beat the Lakers game.
Was this part of the makeup from the fires in
California for them to play back to back like that.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
No, it's just got the weird NBA scheduling. Okay, they're
trying to get some of these games in. We know
what the load management and stuff. So they break at
the schedule where we'll do a lot of back to
backs with the two same teams, but one team will
go play at home, and then the next night they'll
play on the.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Room and then and then they go the Lakers going
straight down I thirty Well, they didn't, they.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Flew, they didn't.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
They didn't bust down I thirty five from Oklahoma City
to Dallas.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
But they'll be in Dallas tonight.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Luka Donget's return as the Mavericks will host the Lakers night.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
So we'll get to those things. Four o'clock hour.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Jean Watson, our good friend from the Chicago White Sox
front office, joins us our weekly conversation and talk Major
League Baseball and Texas Rangers were doing well until they
kind of ran into some Chicago Cubs issues. But hey,
the team I root for has lost three in a row.
The Dodgers started eight. No, they're nine and four now.

(08:42):
They've got one more game in Washington against the Nationals
this afternoon. But we'll get the temperature of that from
Geno and talk about some other Major League Baseball issues
as well. So with that in mind, all of that,
I want to roll it back to what we were
talking about about the Masters. One of the things that
has always intrigued, if not at times even fascinated me

(09:07):
about major championship golf is the number of players, and
I'm talking about some of the greatest players in the game,
the greatest players in the game who had of the

(09:28):
four major championships one elude them throughout the career and
they couldn't finish it.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
They couldn't finish it. And you can go down the list.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
There are a few exceptions, obviously, Jack Nicholas and Tiger Woods.
They won all four major championships multiple times, didn't they.
They won all of the major championships at least twice. Jack,
I think won all of the majors at least three times.
And Tiger Woods after the after the the car wreck,

(10:01):
was at what fourteen, He's at fifteen after coming back.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
And he won the mental.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
Yeah, but he's still three shy of Jack, and I
don't think he's going to catch him. I didn't think
he was going to catch him even back then. I
didn't think he would catch him as father time would
catch him. But then the injuries, the surgeries, the issues
he's had, Jack Nicholas is gonna probably wind up.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
You know, I don't know who knows.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
I mean, maybe Scotti Scheffler has a has a great
run throughout the rest of his career and surpasses eighteen majors.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I don't know. But that's a tall task.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
But for some golfers, some of the greatest in the
history of the game, that there's one major championship, as
he louted them, how many can you name, Cameron of
some of the greatest golfers of all time who couldn't
get that one final major to complete the career slam?

Speaker 3 (10:54):
Well, obviously, Phil Nicholson in the US Opens a big one.
Jordan Spieth in the PGA Championship. Let's see Bobby Jones
ever won the Masters, No.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
No, but he had retired by then. He started the
Masters basically, so he won the Grand Slam before the
modern as we know a Grand Slam, and I believe
it was in nineteen thirty won the US Open, US Amateur,
which was considered a major championship, British Open or the
Open Championship and the British Amateur, and that was considered

(11:25):
the Grand Slam. The Masters began in nineteen thirty four,
but since then there's other ones. Sam Stead never won
a US Open, never won a US Open, lost I
think in a playoff once or twice, had a couple opportunities.
His fate with the US Open was similar to Phil Nicholson's,
where he had opportunities and it got away from him

(11:48):
down the stretch. Arnold Palmer never won the PGA, had
a couple opportunities, got very very close to think nineteen
seventy three maybe or sixty nine to something like.

Speaker 2 (11:57):
That, didn't win.

Speaker 1 (11:59):
Tom Watson never won the PGA. Uh, you know one
other major championship. You know, this is kind of lost
to history, or at least it's just kind of escaped
our memory. But remember a few years ago when Tom
Watson at age sixty was like a four foot putt
away from winning the Open Championship.

Speaker 2 (12:20):
Nine doesn't eight?

Speaker 1 (12:21):
I think so, And I think It would have been
the greatest achievement in modern golf history to do that
at age sixty, more so than Jack Nicholas winning the
Masters at age forty six.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Uh and and he was like a four foot put
away and he missed it and wound up losing as
a result.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
But Tom Watson always played the open rotation the road
to courses very very well.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
Mustis golf BacT this week? No, it's a it's an
Open Championship bag that lists each of the years he
won the.

Speaker 2 (12:53):
Open Championship, didn't he?

Speaker 3 (12:55):
Yeah, And talking about flex, you know, you're sitting on
the bag and some you know kids say, you know,
like for instance, Speith, who has won one Open Championship,
could have won a couple others. You know, it feels
pretty good about his game. Hey, why why do you
have five years on your That's the five Open championships
I won their son those that's a big flex for
Tom Watson.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Had that the famous duel in the sun at Turnberry
with Jack Nicholas. I always remember that one he won
the US Open. Has an incredible chip at Pebble Beach
on number seventeen in nineteen eighty two.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
He won that. But he never won the PGA. Arnold
Palmer never won the PGA.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
Probably the toughest won the win I think of the
four majors, which one the PGA. Why because it's a
different course every single year, so and it doesn't always
set up to a certain players game each year. Usually
the Open Championship is really good for the creative thinkers, right,
US Open kind of you known for being tougher. PGA Championship.

(13:54):
It's a different course every year, and that's the same
thing for the US Open, the Open Championship, but there's
a rotation with the PGA. They've kind of adjusted it
and it's kind of become more of a bomb and
gounge type golf tournament. I think it's really difficult to win.
It's why there's been so few golfers who have won
it multiple times. I mean, Tiger only won the PGA
Championship I think twice if I remember correctly.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
But yeah, he had a playoff, didn't he over Bob May.
Bob May I went at Southern Hills. And then where
was the other one that he won at.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
I have to look it up, but pau Halla, maybe
in Louisville, I can't remember for sure. About that, but
he's won it multiple times. I'd be like a couple
of times Lee Trevino never won the Masters.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
He won it four times.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
So okay, okay, Lee Trevino never won the Masters because
and when my dad was doing a business deal with
him on back and was doing some advertising for him,
he said, to your point that golf course is not
suited to my game because Lee Trevino, who grew up
in Dallas, you know, grew up hitting balls low and
liners into the wind and playing out of Tennison Park

(14:57):
and all that sort of stuff. Think that's why Lee
Trevino was so good at the Open Championship. He won
two he wanted back to back years because he was
good in those conditions, but not so much at Augusta.
And it makes me think about that way about Rory McElroy,
that his game more suited to the open, windy international game,
and he's never won at Augusta. Now, lots of great

(15:19):
golfers have never won the Masters before, but that comes
to mind for me. And then, like you said, Phil
Mickelson of the US Open, Sam Sneave with the US Open,
Arnold Palmer, Tom Watson, the PGA, those are the ones
that really come to mind about that, and Jordan Speith
still trying to win a PGA. He's won the other
ones as well. Where are we with Scottie Scheffler. It's

(15:41):
only one at Augustin el only wanted August one. Two majors,
but both at Augustus.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
Okay, all right, so we'll see how that works this week.
All right.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Up next, we're gonna hear from Long WRNS head coach
Steve Sarkisian when we continue on this Wednesday afternoon on
thirteen under the Zone. Here from longrt's head coach Steve Sarkisian.
One thing that sark was asked about yesterday position changes.
And we usually don't think about him until we get
into spring ball and then all of a sudden you
get all practice. Oh yeah, that guy changed positions. He
went from defense to offense or offense to defense. And

(16:09):
Sark was asked about those positional changes.

Speaker 5 (16:11):
Brian Niblett's probably been the biggest one. You know, he
switched over to defense. Right now, he's working at Star
for us, and you see the skill set of kind
of what i'd hope it.

Speaker 6 (16:21):
Would look like.

Speaker 5 (16:23):
He's obviously all getting a lot more looks at the
return game, punt return, in kickoff return game. So he's
probably the most notable guy that's really you know, changed
opposite sides of the ball.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
A couple of questions about the offensive line. First of all,
how does the O line look so far? You know,
it's going to have quite the different look going into
this season. So we's asked how the offensive line is developing.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
We all have an idea of who Trevor is. We
got a pretty good glimpse of that. Not a finished product,
but we got a pretty good glimpse of what he
looks like. This is probably the best version of DJ
Campbell we've gotten, you know, and again here's four years
into it.

Speaker 6 (16:59):
You think a guy he is who he is.

Speaker 5 (17:00):
There's growth for everybody, and I think he's taken a
really big step from a leadership standpoint and energy standpoint.
This is the best condition he's been in. And then
Cole his experience at center, you know, has been helpful.
I've loved the competition with a lot of those other tackles,
Brandon Baker, Kojo, Nick Brooks, that that's been really healthy

(17:22):
competition there. I love the growth of Nate Kibble right
now of where he's at. So again, work in progress,
seven practices in. But again, I think just the steady
consistency of growth is what we're looking for. I'm always
trying to fight us taking two steps forward one step
backwards and trying to nip that in the bud mid

(17:43):
practice and we'll find that right combination. I think that's
one thing that you know, Kyle and I have done
over the years is try to find who are the
best five and then kind of slot them who's six,
who's seven, who's eight, right, and finding that that kind
of foundation for who you can care on going into games.
And it's a good competition right now.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Yeah, the first three he mentioned obviously Trevor Goosby, who
gave the long runs some quality snaps due to injuries
when he stepped in late in the season. DJ Campbell
obviously returning started there, and he mentioned Cole Hudson who
rotated in on there. All right, So those guys are
part of it. But remember, overall the long wrns lose

(18:24):
for offensive line starters. So Sark was asked, is there
a concern that he had some concerns going into the
spring knowing he was losing four offensive line starters.

Speaker 5 (18:33):
You know, Hey, it's like anything every year, you know,
we're going to lose people, you know, and I think
the sign of a healthy program and the sign of
a successful program is when people move on. The next
group's ready, That next wave of guys are ready to
step in and compete and.

Speaker 6 (18:52):
Do it at a high level. And there's been a.

Speaker 5 (18:54):
High standards set in our program at all positions, and so,
you know, this has been kind of the first the
offensive line has had to be part of that. We've
dealt with it on the defensive line for a couple
of years now. We've dealt with it at wide receiver
for a couple of years now, We've dealt with it
at the running back position for a couple of years now.
This has probably been the first time with the offensive

(19:14):
line has been the one that's part of that transition.

Speaker 6 (19:18):
But again, you know, a lot of these guys have.

Speaker 5 (19:19):
Been in our program, They've worked hard, and they're chomping
at the bit for their opportunity.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
All right, and let's shift over from the offense to
the defensive side. How about an update on what he's
seeing early days at both the corner and nickel positions.

Speaker 5 (19:35):
Yeah, healthy, healthy, competition right now. You know, I think
when you assess it, one thing we've worked on this
spring is we moved Gilbo to corner.

Speaker 6 (19:44):
We know who he is.

Speaker 5 (19:45):
He's got banked five hundred and something reps at Star,
so to get him back at corner to see what
that looks like. Obviously, Manny is back this year, Kobe
Black's had a good spring, Warren Roberson's had an excellent
spring at Corner so far. And then you've got some
new faces right the Cave Phillips of the Worlds. You know,
some new guys there at Star. You know Wardell Max

(20:07):
and year two Grayson Littleton is a true freshman, Ryan Nibblett,
you know, as a position change.

Speaker 6 (20:12):
And so when you.

Speaker 5 (20:13):
Look at the secondary as a whole, just body type,
skill set, ability, corner Star safeties, I would argue it's
probably one of our better, if not our best looking
position on the team. You know that that we're gonna
have plenty of players that are going to contribute on defense,
but I think a lot of that group is going
to contribute on special teams as well. It's been a

(20:36):
group that, you know, we've really tried to recruit a
specific skill set, a specific body type. We've got really
good length, we're really athletic, we can run in the secondary,
and and it's allowing us to play a style over
there that as you know, I've always wanted to be
very aggressive guys, guys that could do multiple things but

(20:56):
also can help on special teams.

Speaker 6 (20:58):
So it's been a good group so far. And again
and they've.

Speaker 5 (21:01):
Got three brand new coaches over there, you know, with
with coach Aquina, with coach Orfe and coach Hudson, so
there's a there's been a transition for that too, even
for our veteran players. It's a new voice, right, there's
new terminology there, there's some subtleties that we're tweaking with
the system. So it's it's been it's been really good
though so far, and I've been impressed. But just like

(21:23):
the offensive line, you know, two steps forward we can play.

Speaker 6 (21:26):
Coverage is great for two.

Speaker 5 (21:27):
Plays, then we can't bust one and give up a
big one. So we're trying to just trying to find
that right continuity there.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
All right, we'll hear more from Start coming up next
hour and some of the four o'clock our couple of
responses questions on our text line. Somebody said, guys said,
thanks for coming back again today. Sure you don't need
some load management. Also, Oja was acquitted. He was acquitted
in criminal court, not in civil court. He was found

(21:53):
guilty and in civil court and had to pay a
lot of money there on that that was going back
to yesterday when when the texture was up updating us
and the fact that the goalpost had moved to the
back of the end zone, which by the way, was
nineteen seventy four when that happened. And that's also oj
is dead and they use a net hanging from a
rim in basketball. Somebody said, you see the Stars game

(22:14):
last night? I couldn't believe what I saw. I was
calling the long ward game. I didn't see it, but
I saw the highlights. I was kind of speechless when
I saw it. Everybody was. If you didn't see what
happened with the Dallas Stars last night. Total collapse gave
up three goals in fifty four seconds inside the final

(22:37):
minute of the game that forced overtime, and then Vancouver
beat him in overtime, right yep, six' five.

Speaker 2 (22:42):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (22:44):
Amazing and the night, before by the, way because it
was keeping. UP i try to keep up with a

Cheese. Good first, course can have.

Speaker 3 (24:26):
Some texas, chili cheddar, cheese, jolopanos corn. Chips and then
the main course and choice of wood fired cowboy rabbi
or black and. Redfish and on the side mac and,
cheese jalapeno, cream, Corn brussels sprouts or sweet. Potatoes and then,
dessert of course you go with the warm chocolate. Chips

(24:46):
skill it cookie with vanilla bean ice. Cream no word
if it Was bluebell or. NOT i feeling it.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Might be It's. Texas we brought it. THERE i Would
i'd love to have been at That Champions. Center, yeah
that all of that sounds.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
Good and you know the story with The Champion's dinner
which it actually started believing nineteen fifty two that And
Ben hogan was the one who introduced it after he had.
Won is that you don't have to. Eat, obviously you
don't have to, anyway but you don't have to if
you're going to dine at the champions, dinner you don't

(25:21):
have to eat what the champions. Selected you can just
have a. Steak But Scottie scheffler had what The cowboy
rabbi pretty, good pretty, good rather than just having a
filet or you, know A New york strip or.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
SOMETHING i mean to the textas Point Bubba watson's, menu
and this has happened, Twice caesar salad as the, appetizer chicken,
breast green, beans mac and.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
Cheese dessert was convetti cake and fill ice.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
CREAM i, MEAN i Understand bubba's a you, know a simple,
guy but you're feeding a lot of people, There, bubba
come on, Now adki just. FANTASTIC i, MEAN i think
he had waguo beef flown. In you wagu beef came,
In miso, glaize black cod asushi as an, appetizer chicken,

(26:09):
Skewers japanese strawberry.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
SHORTCICK i mean that's how you do. It, yeah that's
how you do. It that's good.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Stuff that's good stuff for those of us who like
to live vicariously through The masters Champions somebody, said except
For palmer and Later watson And, Miller nicholas was largely
competing Against Persimmon pete And Bucky shanks a, lot AND
i wouldn't go that. FAR i Mentioned Lee. Trevino he
won six major. CHAMPIONSHIPS i believe he won two, PGA's

(26:38):
TWO Us, opens and Two Open. Championships so there's. One
they had a lot of guys who are, very very
competitive on tour like they do. Now but it's different
now than it was back.

Speaker 2 (26:50):
Then for. Sure.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
Absolutely Tom weiskoff was an outstanding golfer and as An Johnny.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
Miller lest we.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
FORGET i mean there's great golfers there in the sixties and.

Speaker 3 (27:00):
SEVENTIES i, mean going back To nicholas in eighty, six
you Beat Tom, Kake Greg, Norman, Sevy Nick, Price. WATSON
i mean there's some Huge, Tom, Tom Ben crenshaw on that.

Speaker 2 (27:11):
LIST i mean there's a lot of guys That jack.

Speaker 3 (27:13):
Beat one of the greatest of all, time who's out
here skipping and jumping around during the par three, contest
and he's what ninety he moves better THAN i. Do,
YEAH i don't THINK i could skip and hop right
now without hurting my hip. Flexer But Gary player out
here doing push ups on the green At, augusta you.

Speaker 2 (27:31):
Know, yeah yeah.

Speaker 1 (27:32):
Exactly somebody Said Texas, strip you're talking about strip, steak skirt.
STEAK i GUESS i don't. Know all, Right up next
we Have. Inconceivable when we continue on thirteen under the
zone cam will be handling the reins of things tomorrow
AS i travel To, Lexing kentucky With. Longhorning Baseball texas
at twenty seven and. Four now they're eleven and one

(27:55):
IN sec play and they have a big series With
kentucky Beginning friday, Afternoon texas time In, Lexing. Kentucky have
you seen the name Of kentucky's?

Speaker 2 (28:10):
BALLPARK i have.

Speaker 1 (28:13):
Not their, grassfields, well you, know their football stadium is
Called Kroger, field, okay after the supermarket supermarket. Change, no
the baseball park Is kentucky Prowd, Park kentucky Prow. Park
The wildcats are eighteen and. Twelve they lost an extra
ending heartbreaker to their cross state Rivals. Louisville last, night

(28:35):
fourteenth Ran leisville on the road In louisville in ten,
innings four to. Three it was similar to The loghorns
loss To louisville in the season. Upper it was two
two going into the, tent just like In, arlington And
kentucky Like, texas scored a run in the top of
the tent to go up three to, two And, kentucky Like,
texas gave up to in the bottom of the tenth
and lost To louisville four to three and ten, innings

(28:58):
just like The louisville went Over texas in the season
opened At. Arlington fortunately for the Long, warts they've only
lost three games since then and are eleven and one
IN sec. PLAY sec did really well in the non
conference last. Day you know who it kind of stumbled
last night The big twelve and it's hard to figure
out that league if you've looked at. It the leader
atop The big twell standings Is. Kansas, yeah and they

(29:22):
lost To nebraska last. Night they got there's a huge
series this weekend In Fort, Worth kansas AND. TCU tcu
lost at UT R lincoln last. Night baylor lost at
home To Texas state last. Night of, Course Texas state
won In austin a week, ago and the log warns
will have that return game with The bobcats coming. UP
i guess it would be thirteen days from now week
From tuesday and on the twenty second At Bobcat ballpark

(29:45):
In San. Marcus most of the, teams, however in The
big twelve lost their, games their non conference their midweek
games last, night so it was a little bit, weird all.
Right so The masters today Is part Three challenge. Day
how about leaderboard?

Speaker 2 (30:01):
Update?

Speaker 1 (30:02):
There Cameron, parker who who is leading the par three
challenge At Augusta.

Speaker 2 (30:07):
National, well let's pull up the leaderboard here real.

Speaker 3 (30:09):
Quick looks like it's we have a two way tie
With Nicholas echavaria AND Jj spott, okay who do not
believe in The master's jinks, Apparently so we'll see now
the current other current golfers on the chorus right. Now,
yeah it looks like that score is gonna. Hold SO
i don't think there is a playoff or anything like.

(30:30):
That So Corey connors is three hundred through, five but
a Feeling connors is going to decue himself here in
a little.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
Bit do you think?

Speaker 1 (30:36):
So, okay there's a lot of guys that step away
From they don't they don't want, that you, know they.

Speaker 2 (30:42):
Don't they don't want that hanging over. Them you.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
Know, oh they won the par Three. Challenge no par
Three challenge winners ever won the tournament. Itself so but
all the other ones Like Scottie schaffler And jordan speedth
you mentioned in several others already decued themselves by having
a son or daughter or you, know girlfriend or wife
hit a shot or something like. That, okay so it's

(31:05):
the eighty ninth edition Of The. Masters so here's some.
Questions let me throw some questions at THE espn trotted
out a whole bunch of questions and some of those
are pretty. Interesting, okay all eyes are on who this?
Week MM i like to be?

Speaker 3 (31:25):
ANYBODY i would probably Say rory And Scott here are
the two biggest names that have will garnished the most
attention throughout the.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
Weekend, okay all, right who else should be?

Speaker 3 (31:38):
FAVORED i love the way That Colin morikawa is coming
in this. Year he's been under the, Radar he's had
a couple close, calls has not won yet this. SEASON
i think he's had two two top, five two top.
Tens but statistically he's playing the best golf out of
anybody right now on the. Tour he's always played well

(32:00):
well And augusta this course definitely suits his. Game he's
a two time major, champion and with all the eyes
On scotty And ry this, week it does feel like
a good week For morikawa to come in and make some.

Speaker 2 (32:12):
Noise on hes. Won he's won A, pgad he win
The OPEN.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
Pj in twenty, Twenty, yeah THE covid, Year, yeah and
then the twenty and twenty One Open. Championship yep okay.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
True or.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
False best shot for a live golfer to win it
would Be Jon ram Or bryson To.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
SHAMBA i Like bryson this. Week.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
Obviously he won THE Us Open championship last year At, pinehurst.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
And that changed, you by the way On, bryson because
he used to hate used to it with unbridled.

Speaker 3 (32:44):
Passion i've done a complete one, eighty and you, know
he's kind of easing up his personality a, lot and
he's not such a hardcore meathead. ANYMORE i like the
way he's He's he's played the major. CHAMPIONSHIPS i think
out of all The Live golf, guys he's definitely been
the most.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
Consistent he's shown the most signs of.

Speaker 3 (33:00):
Life outside OF i would Say Joaque, neeman who has
NOT i, believe finished in the top ten twenty in
a major. Yet so Between rom And, BRYSON i would
go With. Bryson have not really seen signs of life
From rom since he joined The Live Golf, tour but
we've Seen bryson be able to at least win a
major since joining The Live Golf. Tour best first timer

(33:23):
to watch maver McNeely is a name THAT i. Like
he's A West coast. Kid he won on the tour this.
Season he's a fantastic ball. STRIKER i love the way
he's played this. Year joe High, smith he's won this.
Season he's a good name to watch out. For i'm
trying to think of anybody else About Thomas datrie, yep

(33:45):
The belgian who won At phoenix to season. Two he's
kind of cooled off since winning that. Tournament BUT i
Think maverck mcneely's got to have a really good.

Speaker 2 (33:54):
Week is It Aaron rye or?

Speaker 1 (33:56):
Right Aaron rye Another englishman out tied for nineteenth at
the twenty twenty One.

Speaker 3 (34:03):
Open he wears two golf, gloves So i'm gonna say,
no he's not gonna ring.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
It you don't like, THAT i don't like You're.

Speaker 1 (34:12):
Let me give you another name of a guy not
not a first time or just a guy who to.

Speaker 3 (34:18):
Watch how About Xander. Schoffling sandra's. Interesting you won THE
pja this past, season his, first his first major championship,
victory was arguably the best golfer on the planet not Named.
Scottie scheffler goes into the offseason and has some has
some sort of like rib, injury not really sure what
the deal. Is all of a sudden comes out he's

(34:39):
gonna be missing the century and know? Why comes back
and you, know has not looked. GREAT i, believe forget
where he finished at Bay. Hill it wasn't a fantastic.
FINISH i, mean if he if he's, healthy you feel
good about his. Game but for someone who has not
played in a lot of golf, tournaments it's very. Hard
all of a, sudden we get yourself in major. Championship

(35:00):
he has played well Out augusta. BEFORE i think he's
got three top tens top. FIFTEENS i mean the year
At decky. ONE i think he went into sixteen with
a either a share of the lead or one back
and then dumped it into the, water effectively ending his
chances of winning a green. Jacket allowed A decy to
win his first major. Championship so If sander is, healthy
THEN i feel good about.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Him BUT i just don't think he has put enough golf.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
YET i don't think he's healthy enough yet to contend
in a major championship just. Yet SO i Don't i'm
not expecting Anything alexander this.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Week, Okay and what kind of chance do you Give
roy McElroy.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
Rory's might pick to win. IT i think he. IS
i think he's turned a. CORNER i know it's been
eleven years since he last won a major. Championship at
The hall of THE pga in every, YEAR i think
a lot of fans will talk themselves in To, Roy
BUT i do think it's. Different you, know he had
the heartbreak AT, lacc he had the heartbreak At, pinehurst

(35:57):
and then this season he comes back. In you, know
he wins The Players championship in impressive. Fashion he won
ANOTHER pga tournament the season, Already so he's got The Pebble.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
BEACH i believe he won At Pebble.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Beach so he's got two wins at two unique golf,
courses but two golf courses THAT i think set up
well For augusta because you have to be able to
hit long iron shots and drive the ball, well and
that's Where. Augusta that's where the winners Of augusta usually do,
well is they're able to keep the.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Ball in the.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Fairway but now it's now not just about keeping the
ball in the. Fairway it's about being able to drive
it far because the course has gotten so, long and
then also be able to effectively hit shots between one
hundred and fifty yards in two hundred. Yards And rory
is a fantastic ball, striker and he's been putting it very.
Well AND i think, mentally the way he's kind of
spoken in these last couple of press, CONFERENCES i think

(36:50):
mentally he's turned a corner as. Well SO i THINK
i think If rory's going to win a major championship At,
AUGUSTA i think this is the, year BECAUSE i don't
Think Scotty scheffler is all the way back yet from
his hand injury cooking the. PASTA i know he FINISHED
t two at The Houston open a few weeks, ago
BUT i just don't think he's all the way back.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
YET i think this is the Week.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Roy mcclroy finally wins The masters and completes the Career Grand.

Speaker 1 (37:17):
Slam, okay and then finally some trivia, Here, Okay scheffler
is trying to become only the second golfer in history
to win The masters three times in a four year.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
Span who's the other? One tiger And?

Speaker 1 (37:35):
Jack there's only one, one so only one has won
it three times in four.

Speaker 3 (37:40):
Years SO i think then The tiger won the one nine,
seven the he didn't win again until what, two and
then he won two to four?

Speaker 2 (37:48):
Five So, tiger It's jack sixty, three sixty, five sixty.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
Six Now scheffler's also trying to become only the fourth
golfer to win A Green jacket and back to. BACK
i just gave you one of. Them jack did it
in sixty five sixty. Six who are the other two
golfers who've won The masters him back to back.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
Years let's, see that's a good. QUESTION i Know tiger
never went it back to back yes he. Did tiger
went it back to? Back oh one? Two, okay ONE o.
Two there's one other one in the eighties player Not gary.
Player he won, it let's see sixty, one seventy, four seventy. Eight,

(38:31):
yeah he won it three. Times you can go ahead
and tell me the, answer Sir Nick.

Speaker 1 (38:36):
Faldo, okay nineteen eighty, ninety nineteen, ninety back to? Back
uh for Sir? Nick is he is he still on
THE cbs coverage or did he retire.

Speaker 3 (38:45):
FROM i believe he's now on either The Sky sports
coverage or he's doing some of The master's radio.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
App, okay, okay yeah he's not with. That, okay all,
right very, good all, right there's some things on The
masters coming up. Next more from long warn and said
football Coach Steve's Sarkisian wallso get to more of your.

From Steve sarkishan coming up when we continue on This
wednesday afternoon on thirteen under The, zone Long worts back
on the practice field as they continue to work through
spring ball seven practices in eight counting today now and

(40:20):
Long oorts head Coach Steve sarkisian addressed the media yesterday
and there were a whole variety of. Topics we didn't
get a chance to get to much of it yesterday
because we had a shorter show due to the daytime
game for the Round Rock. Express so here's some of
the other comments that we missed out on.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
Yesterday First.

Speaker 1 (40:35):
Ball sark has made a point of pointing out how
he and his staff have taken a MORE nfl style
approach to crafting how they put the program. Together it
makes more sense nowadays with all of the changes in

(40:57):
the collegiate, game and that's part and parcel of one
part of it of no spring game and you, know
going through a lot of THE ota type. Stuff so
as he has emulated some of THE nfl style, things
and there's been a recent of course pro day on
campus pro timing. Game sark was asked if there's been

(41:18):
AN nfl team or MORE nfl teams that have approached
him for some input and.

Speaker 5 (41:25):
ADVICE i don't know if they really want to know us,
schematically you, KNOW i think everybody's got film and watches and.
WHATNOT i do think there's something to be said for
how we, teach you, know and to get our guys
prepared for THE.

Speaker 6 (41:38):
Nfl you, know we.

Speaker 5 (41:40):
Always you, know we're a pro style approach to what we,
do and that's, offense, defense special, teams AND i think
that helps our players get ready for THE nfl.

Speaker 6 (41:50):
And to put them in.

Speaker 5 (41:50):
Position so there is some definitely some dialogue of teaching
a new player of what that looks. Like AND i
also think there's some cultural stuff that we do, that you,
KNOW i bounce ideas off OF i Love Pro day
BECAUSE i get a chance to talk To Mike rabel
Or Mike tomlin AND i get to bounce things off of, Them,
hey what do you think about?

Speaker 6 (42:08):
This have you ever tried?

Speaker 5 (42:09):
That and then you, know whether it's intentional or, not
they start asking me those same.

Speaker 6 (42:13):
Questions and so it's always.

Speaker 5 (42:16):
Great In may WHEN i get to go out and
visit folks and see how they do things in. Person
but it's never like WHEN i can get them here
and our position coaches can talk to A dB coach
from The titans or the quarterback coach from The bears
or whatever that looks. Like and so we're constantly trying
to poke and prod and take in as much as

(42:36):
we can. Get and that's no different from head coaches
when they come around as.

Speaker 1 (42:39):
Well you, know that's a good point when he talked
about coaches coming into, town position coaches to watch On
Pro Timing, Day the reason WHY i bring that, up
and he kind of brought it up a little, bit Is,
sark when you get to the, springtime after spring practice is.
Over one thing that he does is he goes out

(43:01):
and visits with different head coaches around THE. Nfl there
are some that he's very close. To he's very close
To Mike shanahan And San, francisco close To sean McVay
with The, rams close To matt leafleur with The, packers
close To mike McDaniels with The. Dolphins they like minded
individuals when it comes to the. Offense so he visits

(43:22):
with those guys every. Year it takes an opportunity to
travel out and visit with those guys and exchange of
ideas and different things like.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
That there's gonna be a lot focused.

Speaker 1 (43:37):
ON. Cj baxter coming off the season ending injury in
camp from last.

Speaker 2 (43:43):
Year.

Speaker 1 (43:44):
Now it did obviously open the door with what the
Long worns did with the running back spots last, season
But baxter's coming.

Speaker 2 (43:51):
Back but Remember Christian.

Speaker 1 (43:52):
Clark Christin clark as a freshman was looking really good
until he went down with an. Injury So sark was,
asked how Has Christian clark's recovery come along and, overall
what is he seeing from his running back.

Speaker 6 (44:07):
Room i'll start With.

Speaker 5 (44:08):
Christian i'm super, impressed you know he anytime you have
a significant injury like that and you and you miss
an entire, season you, know you're always kind of monitoring
what are they going to look like when they really
start to come. Back AND i could feel it and winter,
WORKOUTS i mean he was running away where it was like, this,
MAN i don't know what ahead of schedule is.

Speaker 6 (44:29):
Anymore science is pretty.

Speaker 5 (44:31):
Incredible and as practice has, started you, know he looks
in tremendous. Shape he's right back to having great balance
and body, control which is something that that we identified
in the recruiting. Process he's got really good you, know
change of, direction ability to get to top end speed.
Quickly so we're very pleased with where he's. At Trey

(44:53):
wisner's had a great spring and he is the real
Energizer bunny on. Offense he provides the, spark the, juice the.
Energy but yet he's making really, competitive tough. Plays he
looks really. Good he's playing physical And Jared gibson's had
a good spring so far as, well and so and
then you.

Speaker 6 (45:09):
Flip you flipped it to the two.

Speaker 5 (45:12):
Young guys And James simon And Ricky. Stewart you really
see the flashes And james has got a natural, feel
really good, body, lean balancing body, control great hands.

Speaker 6 (45:23):
Out of the.

Speaker 5 (45:23):
Backfield And ricky maybe was a little behind, early but
the moment we put the pads on and you start
to see him, run you see the, burst you see the.

Speaker 6 (45:31):
Acceleration so it's a quality. Room all the while we
know we.

Speaker 5 (45:35):
Still HAVE c four coming, back you, Know so it's
a good room for, us as as everybody here. Knows
we value the running back immenseally and we're fortunate to have.

Speaker 7 (45:44):
A good room.

Speaker 1 (45:45):
There, yeah in case you were wondering what he didn't
MENTION C. J, baxter you just. Did he just did
right there at the end he, said we HAVE c
four coming back AT C. J. Baxter so, yeah all
the while knowing they have him back With Christian, Clark Trey,
white and then the young guys in there as. Well
when young guys enter program quite often they'll you, know

(46:09):
there's that ramping up, process and it happens in every.
SPORT i see it firsthand with all four major varsity
sports THAT i, broadcast and even the ones THAT i don't,
broadcast WHAT i see like softball or soccer or you, know, tennis,

(46:30):
golf swimming and. Diving there is the ramping up process
for young, players whether they are, freshmen red shirt, freshmen
or even transfers into the. Program but in, specific obviously
the sports That i'm, Broadcasting i'm going to see it
a lot more up close in, firsthand be it, football men's,

(46:52):
basketball women's, basketball, BASEBALL i see it on a daily.
BASIS i was talking With Michael, cantu the Long orange
student assistant, coach yesterday about some of the guys and
and and ramping up their. Progress Jim schlosnegle mentions a
lot of young guys and what they. Did there were
there were a couple of young guys who really stepped
up last night on The. Mount Grayson sonier is a

(47:15):
guy who looked really good in a scoreless. Inning he
faced three batters and retired him all on a total
grand total seven. Pitches Drew reherrick worked around a couple
of walks and and got out of. It And Aiden
moffatt is a guy they're very excited. About h he
had he struck out the, side did issue one walk

(47:36):
and but got out of it without any kind of
severe difficulty at. All so young, guys but there is
always a developmental transitional process that these guys have to go.
Through and, yes a lot of it is educational on

(47:57):
what they're supposed to do within the game, plan the, playbook,
whatever and learning the system and learning the.

Speaker 2 (48:05):
Routines all of that is, important but.

Speaker 1 (48:08):
There's also And sark AND i have talked about this at,
length both out Of pluckers on the show and just
just sitting around talking about the psychological part of it
for young, guys because you can be pretty overwhelming for
you think about those of you who went off to,
college what your freshman fall semester Was. LIKE i can

(48:33):
remember mine AT Unc wilmington AND i felt very overwhelmed about, You,
cameron your freshman fall semester at The university Of.

Speaker 3 (48:40):
Texas, yeah you're just kind of, getting you, know getting
to a different, routine something that you're not used, to
right because technically you're really on your own for the
first time in your, life and you've got to be
able to balance the social part of, it and is
also your studious.

Speaker 2 (48:52):
Activities and other things so it's definitely an.

Speaker 1 (48:55):
Adjustment and then you add to that the coaching that
comes in and you're trying to do what you're being
taught and coached to. Do and this also goes with
transfers coming into a. PROGRAM a perfect example of this
Was Matthew golden when he came in and at first

(49:15):
when he first transferred, in the struggle to pick up the,
offensive struggle to, adapt and boy did he blossom and
become something. Special So sark was, asked what is it
like to see a guy Like matthew go and struggle
with the offense at first before becoming a great. Player the,
blossoming the developmental part of, it the educational all of

(49:40):
which goes into developing a real quality football.

Speaker 6 (49:43):
Player, yeah, NO i love, that you, Know AND i
would Say.

Speaker 5 (49:49):
Matthews a great example of you, know early, on he was,
struggling you, know with the, offense he was struggling with you,
know the multitude of things was different than what he
had come, from a lot of ways to skin a.
Cap AND i don't think we saw the best version
of him physically early, on even early in the, season

(50:10):
because the the you, know the wheels were still turning up,
top and as the season went, on the more comfortable he,
got we start to see even a better version of him,
physically because mentally things slowed down and calmed down for.
Him and SO i think that's the you, know lesson
learned for all of us as, coaches is, like we
got to keep coaching these. Guys you, know they're not finished,
products and we got to keep pushing them, along keep

(50:33):
trying to put him in position to have some, success
to keep their confidence.

Speaker 6 (50:36):
Right but but but, man what a what A you,
know you look.

Speaker 5 (50:40):
At the second half of the, season you look at
the playoffs and and just the ride he's been. ON
i couldn't be more happy for. Him you, know he's
he's he's a. Worker you, know he's a blue collar,
guy and it's been, showing you, know he tries to
do things the right. Way and then as the season went,
on it made more sense to.

Speaker 6 (50:59):
Him and it's just continued on throughout this draft.

Speaker 1 (51:01):
Process so in other, words it's a lesson that could
be passed down to some of the other younger guys
as they continue to work for it and try to
get better on all of. This and so that's why
it was it's good to see the finished, product to
see a guy blossom the way That Matthew golden. Did

(51:21):
listen all of, us if you had any kind of
interest as a, fan as a, football college football, viewer
as a media, member me as a play by play,
guy if any of that tied into your interest in

(51:42):
The university Of, Texas you're probably always going to remember
fourth and. Thirteen, now we're going to Remember quinn yours,
being you, know cool as a cucumber firing that pass,
in but we're going to Remember Matthew golden hauling.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
It in in the end zone for that touch. Down
it's just it's always.

Speaker 1 (52:02):
Good that's gonna be one of those iconic plays that
are that are gonna stick with. You, YESTERDAY, uh a
member of the Long Horn baseball staff asked me about
And i've been asked about this. Before you AND i
have talked about all. This we've we've we've discussed.

Speaker 3 (52:19):
THIS.

Speaker 1 (52:20):
Uh the calls that are you, know really whatever iconic or. MEMORABLE,
uh those kinds of, things the the The Vince young
fourth and, five the the, light The Tower orange winning
the national CHAMPIONSHIP uh in baseball AND o two and
again AND o five those those, things those, moments THOSE uh,

(52:40):
Calls and he was asking me about, that AND i,
said there's just something that comes to you in the
moment that are just even after you make the, call
you're kind of just taking it all in and AND
uh in a little bit of disbelief and just kind
of letting it wash over. You that was one of those.
Moments that was definitely one of those. Moments the fourth

(53:04):
and thirteen. Pass all, right we're gonna jump TO. Nba
it's a big night In dallas. Tonight we're gonna get
to that coming up next year on thirteen under The.
Zone tonight In, dallas The mavericks will play The. Lakers
The lakers lost to The thunder last night In Oklahoma.
City we mentioned this last. Hour rather than going to you,
know they'll you, know zip down To dallas and play

(53:27):
this on the back to back in the game last,
night in case you did not see, it there's about
seven and a half minutes to. Go lakers are up
one o, eight one oh, seven And Luka doncic hits
a tough shot and he comes back and there's talking

(53:48):
going on and j T or the referee stops play
and gives him a technical.

Speaker 2 (53:54):
Foul now there's two things to work.

Speaker 1 (53:56):
Here first of, all he had already had a technical
foul in the, game.

Speaker 2 (54:00):
So, two you're.

Speaker 1 (54:01):
Out, Secondly luca could not believe, it and he has
some people backing him up on this that he was
not saying anything to the. Official he was trash talking
a fan in the, game.

Speaker 2 (54:18):
He, Said so that's he.

Speaker 1 (54:21):
Said i've never got a, fan, ejected explaining how he
often engages with opposing fans without asking arena security to.

Speaker 2 (54:30):
Intervene he's never asked them to come.

Speaker 1 (54:32):
Down and you know a guy when the, guys when
the guy's hazing, him rising, him he, said. Never but
if the fan is going to, Talk i'm going to
talk back like. Always that had nothing to do with the,
ref SO i didn't really. Understand so the Thunder them
finishes the game on a twenty nine to twelve run
and they beat The. Lakers there was he also same

(54:54):
official or Gave dnche a technical in the third quarter
When luca was arguing that a foul call was missed
When Jared vanderbilt of The lakers was hit on the previous.
Possession vanderbilt, said he THOUGHT i got fouled WHICH i
did get.

Speaker 2 (55:09):
FOULED i got slapped across the.

Speaker 1 (55:10):
Head he was just telling the ref that's what, happened
and the ref was just, Like i'll talk to anybody but, You.
Luca so it seemed a little personal at that. Point
the crew Chief Tony, brothers was asked after the, gang you,
know you have a pool reporter that goes in and
visits and gets official statements about calls and things like
that from the crew. Chief so you have a pool

(55:33):
reporter going and Asking Tony brothers about. It the first,
technical which came with about four minutes to go in
the third, quarter brother, Said donchez directed profanity at a game. Official,
yeah that's probably, so probably did. That the second, One brother,
said Don chez look directly at an, official one used vulgar.

Speaker 2 (55:51):
Language the. Fan you know about this, guy don't.

Speaker 1 (55:55):
You Jeremy price refers to himself as the court side tattoo. Dude, sure,
yeah he TOLD Espna dodges was shouting at, him not the.

Speaker 2 (56:07):
Referee his quote was during the.

Speaker 1 (56:09):
Game within the, GAME i mentioned that he was short
on his shot and he missed, it and he turned
around and he shot an exploitive back AND. Jt happened
to see it and at that point ted him. Up
this is the fan saying. This price said he also
exchanged some words With luca last year during that playoff
series between the thunder and The, mavericks and he, said

(56:31):
or possibly could have been mistaken as to Whom doncic was.
Addressing that's probably WHY i picked up that, technical to
be quite, honest he. Said so it was real close
at that, point but then it went on from. There
In Oklahoma city took advantage of. That they have the
number one overall. Record they're sixty five and. Fourteen lebron.

(56:52):
Said both teams know this was going to be a
playoff type, atmosphere playoff type, competition playoff type, feeling and
it just got.

Speaker 2 (56:58):
Weird the game got weird after. That so how weird
is it going to be? Tonight In?

Speaker 1 (57:05):
Dallas luca back at The American Airlines center for the
first time since the trade to The. Lakers now he's
played against The mavericks since the, trade but that was
In La so now for the first time and we're
hearing all kinds of. Things what there's a mural that's
up in The Cedars, district which is not far from,

(57:26):
downtown which is taking a shot At Nico. Harrison they
say The, mavericks by the, Way cam have relaxed their
policy on you can't say anything bad or at about.

Speaker 2 (57:42):
Ownership or management or you're going to get kicked out
of the.

Speaker 1 (57:44):
Game suppose that they've relaxed that as long as it's not,
profane that you can say Fire nico if you want or.

Speaker 3 (57:52):
Whatever does that violate some of the amendments right in
THE Us?

Speaker 1 (57:56):
Constitution, well there is freedom of, speech but does a
mean it doesn't come without, consequences you, know in the
arena or. Something but apparently The mavericks have relaxed the
policy to where you can be critical of the management.
Team their skin is probably thickened quite a bit since

(58:20):
the early days right after that, trade when everybody was
just so undone about it and they were to use
a popular phrase but heard about it and having people
ejected for wearing shirts that say Fire nico and things like.
That they apparently have have walked that back some. Now

(58:41):
they've peeled that back and allowed fans to voice and
vent some.

Speaker 3 (58:47):
Frustration The addison family And, Dumont, YEAH i should go
ahead and just sell the.

Speaker 2 (58:53):
Team you know.

Speaker 1 (58:55):
WHAT i think they're waiting for gambling to become legal
In texas or for it to be shut down and
not become. Legal and then once they get a definitive
final answer on that, deal if it's in the, negative
THEN i think they sell the. Team if it's in the,
POSITIVE i think that they keep the team so because

(59:19):
then there's going to be all that talk about moving
the team of you, know you know the site where
they're talking about putting up this.

Speaker 2 (59:28):
Casino have you have you heard?

Speaker 4 (59:29):
Them?

Speaker 2 (59:30):
Don't let's see what is? It is it near where
THE aac is at nowhere is?

Speaker 4 (59:37):
It?

Speaker 3 (59:37):
Nope it's western Eastern, dallas western west of, there most
To arlington or.

Speaker 2 (59:43):
Not quite that.

Speaker 1 (59:44):
Far it is basically on the spot on the, site
on the physical grounds of Where Texas stadium was where
The cowboys played all the way up to two thousand and.
Nine it's it's it's right at the apex Of highway
one eighty, three one, Fourteen loop. Twelve they all kind
of come together that and there's been nothing sitting on the.

(01:00:05):
Side the billboards by the way that advertised cigarettes Forever
marlborough and all those those billboards are still up. There,
uh and they used to Say Texas. State Texas stadium
used to have drive in movie. Theaters they had drive in.
Screens WHEN i first got out in The, TEXAS i
went out there with my, brother my younger.

Speaker 4 (01:00:24):
Brother we.

Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
Went that's WHERE i Saw Animal house for the first.
Time it was A texas at The Texas stadium drive
in movie. Theater they eventually pulled out the drive in.
Screens the stadium was there TILL o. NINE i THINK
o eight was the last season that was in. THERE
i got the chance to call the final football game
ever played At Texas. Stadium it Was it was a

(01:00:46):
three to a high school state championship game Between carthage
And salina that That carthage did it for Statewide radio that.
Night and the paint was already peeling off the, walls
and So jerry did nothing. Thing once the decision was
made and they were Building Jerry world In, arlington he
wasn't going to touch anything else In Texas stadium because
it was owned by the city Of. Irving of, course

(01:01:08):
so they did nothing for the upkeep right at the,
end but that's where the hope was to put up the.
Casino that's where that's supposed to go up if it's
going to. Happen but there are most many folks who,
say you, know what is. It you can hope in one,
hand poop in the other and see which one fills up.

(01:01:29):
First you know that kind of, thing that it's not
going to. Happen SO i think that family may be
waiting for the final answer to come. Down At, no
there's not going to be any legalized casino gambling In,
texas and if that, happens then maybe at that point
it becomes uncomfortable more so than it is right, now
even to own the. Team All, right we'll be back

(01:01:51):
to wrap up hour number two here on thirteen hunder.

Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
The Zone wednesday.

Speaker 1 (01:01:54):
Afternoon here on thirteen hundred of The, Zone Greg way
and the Producer Cameron parker had to have you. Alongside
cameron's all fired up because we're this close to The masters. Starting,
hey you made it.

Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
Playing, yesterday didn't.

Speaker 1 (01:02:15):
You this this is your favorite of the major golf.

Speaker 2 (01:02:20):
Championships oh, yeah The. Masters it's it's the best.

Speaker 3 (01:02:23):
ONE i know you're An Open championship, fan But i'm,
sorry it's It's. Augusta it's The. Masters there there there's
nothing like. It there's truly nothing like. It it's a,
fantastic fantastic. Week it might be my favorite week of
the year really.

Speaker 1 (01:02:43):
Because you're coming off the national championship of college, basketball.

Speaker 2 (01:02:46):
Just just because it's just because it's The. Masters, Okay.

Speaker 1 (01:02:51):
So this is like your favorite week on the calendar for,
sports for sports of the entire fifty two, weeks this
particulicular week in Early april with The masters is your
favorite week of the entire calendar year for. Sports, okay
not knocking it at, all something like you are, no, no,

(01:03:13):
No i'm just, processing just just listening to.

Speaker 3 (01:03:16):
Him i'm not talking about like all of. Sports i'm
talking about for one particular. Sport this is my favorite.
Week if you want to, argue, oh the first weekend
of college but The sweet sixteen or the Lead dad
or first week the first two, days but. Tournament The
Master's tournament is in a different tier of sporting events
because it's it's a limited. Field the his, history the,

(01:03:36):
pageantry the, triumphs the, collapses how the course has what
stood the test of. Time from what Although jones did
In Alistair mackenzie And Clifford roberts from the, beginning all
the way, through you, Know jack And gary all the way,
Through tiger just completely destroying the course of ninety seven

(01:03:59):
And augustin Completely tiger proofing the, course and him coming
back TO o one and going back to back and
one and, two And phil finally winning his first major
after what forty thirty six or forty four starts one
of the two and then all the way through what
we saw From Jordan speed in twenty, fifteen and Now
scotty winning Two Green jackets in the last three. YEARS

(01:04:21):
i JUST i, love just love the tournament and hope
one day can get up there for.

Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
It Has phil won Two masterga.

Speaker 2 (01:04:28):
Won we have one three?

Speaker 1 (01:04:30):
Times The, Masters, OKAY i, KNEW i was pretty certain
he won at least.

Speaker 2 (01:04:36):
Two AND i know he's won THE pga five he
won he won four sorry four six in twenty. Ten.

Speaker 1 (01:04:43):
Okay so he's won The masters three, times and he's
won THE pga twice that were opened once and what's
and The Open championship, yep, okay. Okay so he's won
six majors and he's been the runner up of THE
us opened six.

Speaker 2 (01:04:57):
Times six? Times?

Speaker 1 (01:04:59):
Wow where does he rank for? You where Does Phil mickelson.
RANK i know you don't like. HIM i, KNOW i
Know phil at the vanguard of live. GOLF i know
you know he's not high on your. List but where
would you where would you rank? Him is he a
top ten of all? TIME i think.

Speaker 3 (01:05:19):
SO i think so because the way he's played the.
GAME a fantastic, player of, course you Know, lefty but
what he did as an. Amateur you, know he won
as an amateur At Arizona state before coming on the,
tour his rivalry With Tiger woods and all the close,
calls you, know not being able to win a major

(01:05:40):
until he won The masters AND o four and then
what he's done since, then and you, know the whole
stuff to live and you, know him coming To augusta
but not going to The Champions center and not speaking
to the media kind of a kind of a STAIN
i think on his. Legacy it definitely has hurt his legacy.
Overall but you, know when he Won kiwa on twenty

(01:06:01):
twenty one at THE pga at forty years old or
fifty years, OLD i think it was closer to fifty
and forty just kind of a perfect way to kind
of cement his. Legacy the lift stuff is always going
to detract from. It but as a golf, player for
sure top ten of all. TIME i mean his golf

(01:06:22):
shot from the pine straw is on what thirteen on,
thirteen twenty, ten probably a top ten golf shot.

Speaker 2 (01:06:32):
At augusta without a. DOUBT i think top.

Speaker 1 (01:06:34):
FIVE i think one of the things that's interesting about
his career is him kind of doing the ten cup
stuff like that. One and then remember at THE Us
open when he had the, lead he pulls out driver on.
Eighteen everybody's going, no, no, no, Stop no winds up
making what double while somebody else made birdie and he

(01:06:55):
winds up losing the open on the last.

Speaker 2 (01:06:57):
Hole that.

Speaker 3 (01:06:58):
Was that was what the year is, Think Jeff ogilv,
won was That Beth page the?

Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
Disaster it was a. YEAR i will tell you.

Speaker 1 (01:07:07):
This it was a year That texas was in The
College World series BECAUSE i watched it in my hotel
room in disbelief In. OMAHA i can't remember what you
met fourteen maybe or or nine or or eleven it.
Was i've been trying to think one of the years
that that.

Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
That texas was In. Omaha it was.

Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
Six it Was Jeff Ogilv Okay phil had a two
shot lead at wingfoot going into the last, hole and
like you, said pulled it way left into THE i
mean it was it was left of left into the
you know grand. STANDS i think he tried the you
know lay up and his lay up wasn't good and
just like that made double And.

Speaker 1 (01:07:50):
Jeff, ogilvy, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:07:54):
SIX i.

Speaker 1 (01:07:55):
WAS i was In, omaha was there For westwood one
Doing North carolina Against oregon's date in The National Championship,
Series AND i, was BUT i. WAS i arrived because
The National Championship series was starting On monday, night had
arrived On, saturday and SO i was in the hotel
room On sunday and couldn't believe, it watching watching out
BECAUSE i, thought finally he's going to win A United States,

(01:08:16):
open and it did not. Happen All, right we're gonna
talk to. Baseball Gene watson from The Chicago White sox
front office will join. Us we'll talk about The biggs
coming up when we continue here on This wednesday afternoon
a yacht Rock wednesday on thirteen under The. Zone but
WHEN i think of baseball and, food the first PERSON

(01:08:37):
i think of is our good Friend Gene watson from
The Chicago White sox front, office who joins us right.

Speaker 2 (01:08:42):
Now how are you doing, Today?

Speaker 7 (01:08:43):
Geno let's go, On.

Speaker 1 (01:08:45):
Greg, hey this is this is WHY i brought that.
UP i, said WHEN i think of baseball and, FOOD
i think of. You this just came down this. Afternoon
Cody bellinger The yankees has sworn off chicken wings for
five years because he got sick last. Night he ordered
room service wings In. Detroit this actually Had monday night

(01:09:09):
while he was watching THE, ncaa The National championship. Game
said they were traditional bone in, wings no, sauces spices or.
Rubs his quote was they were good coming, in BUT
i woke up at four am sweating and it just
started throwing up for a few. Hours it was a tough.
Morning he sat out the game yesterday with food. Poisoning he,
SAID i can SAY i will not eat wings for five.

(01:09:31):
YEARS i swear because the thought of it right now
makes me.

Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
Sick he did play.

Speaker 1 (01:09:35):
Today he went over for Fort he struck out three,
times so feeling a little bit better. Anyway my question,
is is you've been around big, leaguers tell folks a
little bit about it, Is by and, large when guys
are in the hotel the night before the. Game is
it almost a given that they're always going to order
room service or takeout or something like, that or do
they go out to dinner?

Speaker 4 (01:09:55):
Much not, really you, know most of the time players
will have dinners planned when they.

Speaker 7 (01:10:02):
Land and in.

Speaker 4 (01:10:03):
Every city there are, Restaurants like in every city you go,
to there are like the top ten restaurants that every
team eats. At but depending on how the travel day,
went how the when the plane, landed sometimes you just
have to do the proverbial room. Service AND i gotta tell,
You i'm the same way with.

Speaker 7 (01:10:23):
SUSHI i have some bad sushi and it's about a
year BEFORE i can't even think about it, again And
i'm in that window right. Now so it's where such
creatures of.

Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
Habit on the road as to where we eat and
the places we like to, go that you got to
be very very.

Speaker 1 (01:10:39):
Careful sometimes where is a place that you thought was.
Good you don't have to name in the, restaurant but
just the. City where was the place that you thought was,
good that people told you was. Good maybe you'd even
eat in there before it was, good and then you
had a really bad experience and you've like sworn it,
off you'll never go there.

Speaker 7 (01:10:57):
AGAIN i don't want to name the.

Speaker 2 (01:11:01):
Restaurant, no what city.

Speaker 7 (01:11:06):
That would most recently?

Speaker 1 (01:11:08):
Be?

Speaker 7 (01:11:10):
Chicago? Really, yeah a pretty famous place In.

Speaker 4 (01:11:15):
Chicago, Yeah i'm me And Jim Toldy hall Of, Famers
Jim tomy have been traveling around seeing players for the.

Speaker 7 (01:11:22):
Draft And jim AND i are pretty large.

Speaker 4 (01:11:25):
Guys, yeah and we have one maybe a bad, game
never a bad, meal and so we pride ourselves on
really good.

Speaker 1 (01:11:32):
Restaurants, wow, okay all, Right so then if if you
have a bad, one then then uh then at that,
point do you do you like put it on probation
for a while or does it depend on how sick
you got as to whether you'll go back and then.

Speaker 2 (01:11:49):
You will never?

Speaker 7 (01:11:49):
Return is it never? Return it's a never? Return?

Speaker 2 (01:11:52):
Okay all, right.

Speaker 7 (01:11:54):
There's too many great options out.

Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
There, okay all? Right, UH i want to ask your
opinion on. Something T Jim bowden did a piece For
The athletic where he ranked eleven recent extensions and the
title is which teams did the best deals and who?
Overpaid and we don't have to get into all, that
BUT i just want TO i want to get your
thoughts on some of these extensions and what it means

(01:12:17):
for certain. Teams first of, all let me start with
the ball club you're very familiar with because your son
works in their employee for The San Diego, Padres Jackson
merrill nine, year one hundred and thirty five million dollar deal,
There Christian, campbell you've spoken of of The Red sox
eight year sixty million dollar. Deals that's a. Couple and
then of course the guy that you know very, Well

(01:12:38):
Garrett crochet who went over to The Red sox and
the deal and got the extension of six, years one
hundred and seventy.

Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
Million let me start with those three and get your
thoughts on those.

Speaker 4 (01:12:46):
Extensions so really it comes down to each organization looking
at their individual players and, saying this is a generational
type player that the price tag is not going to go,
Back so you're talking about buying them out of their
three arbitration years.

Speaker 7 (01:13:04):
And then wanting to keep them around for longer than.

Speaker 4 (01:13:07):
That most of the, time when these extensions, happen they
happen with teams that are built to, win, now, uh
and you're just you're eliminating the financial question marks of
your best. Players so that you know how much financial
flexibility you may have to go out to build the
team around. You.

Speaker 7 (01:13:26):
Uh AND i will tell you.

Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
That most of the, time with these big, deals the
backside of the, deals clubs.

Speaker 7 (01:13:33):
Are always trying to get out of.

Speaker 4 (01:13:35):
Them they'll they'll they'll end up trying to move the
player and move the money at less acquisition costs because
the window to win typically is. Clothes AND i think
that that teams hope for the very very best for the.
Deals BUT i think when you look at, them most
of the time they are teams that are built to
win right. Now we want to we want to get
as much financial certainty with our best players as we,

(01:13:57):
can knowing that on the back side of, it we're
probably going to be trying to move those players and
or some of the money with those.

Speaker 7 (01:14:04):
Deals in the end.

Speaker 1 (01:14:06):
Are teams more reluctant to give that kind of an
extension to a.

Speaker 2 (01:14:10):
Pitcher here's an.

Speaker 1 (01:14:11):
Example The guardians just gave Tanner byby an extension five,
years forty eight, million And Jim bowden's take on it
was he, SAID i never liked giving pitchers who are
under team control long term extensions because of the risk
of injuries or. Decline these, days over any five year
period Of Tommy john surge who are another significant setback
is always, possible but it's worth the risk when a

(01:14:34):
pitcher is, young doesn't have a lot of innings on their,
arm and has a chance to be a top of
the rotation. Starter are those the key factors as you
see them as to whether a young pitcher gets an
extension like, That, well, ONE.

Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
I think it depends on that does the picture and
body everything you're looking for as far as a great,
teammate great community.

Speaker 7 (01:14:55):
Leader is it somebody that.

Speaker 4 (01:14:57):
Even on the backside of, it is going to have
value to the Rotation from the injury, Standpoint, craig forty
percent of the pitchers In Major League.

Speaker 7 (01:15:06):
Baseball have Had Tommy. John and you, know if it's
not if it's.

Speaker 4 (01:15:11):
Win we had this discussion today on a leadership call
In Kansas.

Speaker 7 (01:15:15):
City it's not if it's. Win so really you try
not to factor that.

Speaker 4 (01:15:19):
In but if the player embodies everything that you're looking
for from a team, standpoint teammate, standpoint talent, standpoint you
kind of feel like there's going to be some digression
to the. Talent but if you feel like you've got
a can't miss. Arm you go ahead and lock them,
up because injuries are going to be a part of.
It but right now the demand is so much greater

(01:15:42):
than the supply of pitchers at the major league, level.

Speaker 7 (01:15:46):
Especially starters that any of them that you.

Speaker 4 (01:15:48):
Have if you're built to win like they, are, again
you want to go ahead and lock those guys.

Speaker 1 (01:15:53):
Up talk of baseball With Gene watson here on thirteen.
Hundred you said it before the start of the. Season you,
SAID i on The, rangers this is a team you
feel with it be a real threat to wind up
in The World. SERIES i think the two teams you
mentioned most prominently from The American league were The rangers And.
Orioles but with regard to The, rangers who have started

(01:16:13):
off as as strongly as they have right.

Speaker 2 (01:16:18):
Now nine to.

Speaker 1 (01:16:19):
Four right, now you also Mentioned Kumar, rocker and you
also Mentioned Jack lyder and those GUYS i guess haven't
disappointed early.

Speaker 4 (01:16:27):
On, No and this is a team and everybody Knows
Bruce bochi does such a great job every other. Year
you saw it In San francisco and, ten twelve and
fourteen with The World. Series you, know winning A World
series is incredibly. Hard managing the season after winning A
World series as even, harder and SO i think they

(01:16:48):
kind of just really hit the reset. Button they've got
some starters that have gotten healthy. Again Corey seeger has been,
outstanding their scoring, runs they play very good, defense and you,
know they use the entire. Roster it's not the same
lineup every. Night it's not the guys sitting in the
same spot in the order every.

Speaker 7 (01:17:07):
Night they're very creative with the way they approach.

Speaker 4 (01:17:10):
It and this is a team that's going to be,
very very good the entirety of the season and should
be pushing first shot in The World.

Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
Series let's talk about the other team In. Texas houston
is at five and six right. Now Jordan alvarez has
been off to a slugger. Start did hit his first
time run the other other. Day what about your early
impressions what The asteroids are doing.

Speaker 7 (01:17:30):
Well they're really going to have to like sure up
the starting.

Speaker 4 (01:17:33):
Pitching it be really really, consistent BECAUSE i don't think
they're going to score the runs that they. Scored when
you Lose Kyle tucker and when you Lose Alec, brigman
that's two very big batch to your. Offense Camp smith
is going to be a very good major league, player
but he's Not Alex bregman right.

Speaker 7 (01:17:50):
Now that was a very good trade for.

Speaker 4 (01:17:52):
Them but SO i think they know the offensively that
they've taken a step back from an overall stand point
that he got a. Pitch you got to play better
defense and just keep your out of the water as
long as you can that the, mission because it is an,
extremely extremely tough mission when you talk About texas and
what they have going In seattle and they're starting, pitching

(01:18:14):
and The angels and the balance that they have of
that team and The oaklands arguably one of the better
young teams in the division that nobody ever talks. About
so they're just gonna have to be very very consistent
on the.

Speaker 1 (01:18:25):
Mouth, yeah, YEAH i want to go back to The
angels a bit. Here everybody looked at this as it
being another. REBUILD i, said they're off to a seven
and three. Start what stands out you about what The
angels are doing?

Speaker 4 (01:18:36):
Well perry did such a great job of going out
and getting young position players and drafting uh premium position
players Like Zach. Nto he went and Got logan Hot
logan o'happy from The phillies For brandon Marsh Nate, sanwell
who got it For they got it first base in the,
draft And perry's just not afraid to put those guys

(01:18:58):
in the big leagues right. Away but the key to
their entire season Is Mike trout staying, healthy and right
now he has. Been And Mike trout on the field
does so much for that. Team and then when you
get him to buy in to making the change to right,
field that's even a bigger. Thing And Ron washington is
a tremendus. Manager he's got his team prepared to. Play

(01:19:20):
and these guys have a very very good young kitching
at the major league level and more coming in the minor.
Leagues and you, know everybody bangs on The angels. System
you know they rank them anywhere between twenty six to.
Thirty but their drafts the last five years have one
of the higher wars in all.

Speaker 7 (01:19:37):
Of baseball at the major league.

Speaker 4 (01:19:39):
Level SO i, think you, know they don't ask how
they ask how many at the major league. Level and
he's certainly done a great job of drafting and then
getting those guys in the big.

Speaker 7 (01:19:48):
Leagues and it's all coming to the forefront right.

Speaker 1 (01:19:51):
Now you brought up The, athletics and they're they're the
kind of the vagabonds as we as we know right,
now having to play In. Sacramento in, fact if you
look in the, standings they're just listed As. Athletics for,
me an old school, guy reminds me of WHEN i
was growing Up North carolina going to WATCH aba games
for The Carolina. Cougars whenever they played the team From,
florida they were just called The floridians because they played
In miami And tampa And jacksonville were just The.

Speaker 2 (01:20:14):
Floridians The athletics are playing.

Speaker 1 (01:20:16):
In, sacramento, however, however know one thing the returns the
Vibes i'm hearing is that the games that they're playing
In sacramento the games that The rays are playing in
The yankees Spring. Ballpark AND i was down there last
week for The Women's final, four AND i ALMOST i
just didn't have. Time we didn't get there in. TIME
i was going to go and see The pirates played

(01:20:38):
them Because schemes was. Pitching but so, far it sounds
like all of the reception has been really good for
the fans filling those minor league.

Speaker 2 (01:20:46):
Ballparks to see those two teams.

Speaker 4 (01:20:49):
Well from An athletics, STANDPOINT i think we all know
over the past twenty five, years nobody has accepted their
identity more than The. Athletics we just know who they
are as an. Organization they've got very good young position.
Players when you talk About Tyler soderstrom and A Brent
rooker and A Jacob, wilson they've got really really good

(01:21:11):
young position, players and they're kind of in a holding
patting for as exciting as they are a young, TEAM
i think as it gets closer to moving Into Las,
vegas you're gonna see ownership begin to spend more money
and that windows kind of going to be open for
them right when they get to.

Speaker 7 (01:21:26):
Move SO i love everything that they're.

Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
Doing and then when you talk About, TAMPA i talked.

Speaker 7 (01:21:34):
To Perry manassei and they're playing them this. Week the
ballpark seems to be very. UNIQUE i don't think the
fans have.

Speaker 4 (01:21:39):
Been break and braced it quite as much they, hope
but very interesting case and it's gonna be fun to
see how that plays out over the.

Speaker 1 (01:21:47):
Summer talking Baseball Major League baseball With Geene watson from
The Chicago White sox for an office here on thirteen
under The.

Speaker 2 (01:21:52):
ZONE.

Speaker 3 (01:21:52):
G you, Know i'm sure you're sick of being asked
about torpedo bats and probably sick of talking about, it
BECAUSE i think they've kind of been and exist since
for a little bit and just the media and the
national fans didn't. Know but what have you made of
this national, phenomenon how The yankees have used these torpedo
bats going? Forward and do you THINK mlb will kind

(01:22:13):
of maybe change the way they're.

Speaker 2 (01:22:15):
MADE i.

Speaker 4 (01:22:17):
DON'T i don't think that That Major League baseball has
And i've, been you, know being an old. Schlubby i'm
pretty dialed in with the equipment Of Major League baseball
since nineteen eighty, nine and you, know it's it just
happened to be one particular weekend where they're facing one
of their ex pitchers and they had a really big

(01:22:37):
offensive weekend and the torpedo bat got a lot of,
attention and good for.

Speaker 7 (01:22:42):
The bat company to be able to guarder that type
of attention in a.

Speaker 4 (01:22:46):
Weekend but But i've always been it's always the hitter
and not the. Bat the technology of it's, great but you,
know you still have to be able to make solid.

Speaker 7 (01:22:55):
CONTACT i don't think it's it's been. AROUND i, Mean
i've seen one hundred of them in the last five.
YEARS i just think you.

Speaker 4 (01:23:02):
Got a lot of momentum off of one weekend and
it'll settle back.

Speaker 7 (01:23:06):
In BUT i don't THINK i don't see an issue with.

Speaker 4 (01:23:09):
It from a technology, standpoint from the league being, allowed
and certainly hitters are creatures of habit and creatures of,
comfort and if they feel like it's something that can help,
them they're going to use. It if, NOT i think
you'll see the same bats that have always been.

Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
Used, okay So, Gino i'll bring this thing full circle.
Here as we started to wrap, UP i started off
by talking about The Cody bellinger food poisoning. Thing and
there have been some bizarre injuries and down throughout the. Years,
now help me remember this BECAUSE i was at AND

(01:23:47):
i don't know if you were in The rangers employee
at the. Time this was whatever it was eighty six
eighty seven somewhere around there When odeby McDowell sliced open
his finger buttering a role at the welcome home luncheon
one of the. YEARS i was at that lunch and,
uh they were you at that. Lunch do you remember
that deal With odob.

Speaker 7 (01:24:04):
McDowell i do remember.

Speaker 4 (01:24:07):
IT i wasn't at that lunch and, though BUT i
do remember we were talking About otob. Yesterday really you
bring his name?

Speaker 1 (01:24:13):
Up, yeah and then, uh and who was the GOSH
i used to know there was a guy with The
indians at the time who uh dislocated his shoulder because
of spiders or something and he was reaching.

Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
It they get a. Spot and there's been bizarre.

Speaker 1 (01:24:29):
Injuries AND i know you've been around a lot of
those strange ailments and injuries down through the.

Speaker 4 (01:24:33):
Years, Yeah AND i DON'T i don't really trust the
information that comes out about him BECAUSE i was with
a particular player when he broke his ankle playing basketball
and then said he was running on a treadmill and fell.

Speaker 7 (01:24:46):
Off, OH i. DON'T i. DON'T i don't.

Speaker 4 (01:24:49):
Really really trust the information on that stuff when it
comes out unless you know you've got.

Speaker 7 (01:24:54):
Actual witnesses that have seen.

Speaker 4 (01:24:56):
It but there's certainly been a lot of freak, injuries
a lot of freak accidents over the. Time but but
how much of the actual event was, True it's hard to.

Speaker 1 (01:25:06):
Tell, yeah no doubt about. It, okay no freak. Accidents,
drive drive your precious cargo home. Safely, uh make sure
to Get melanie to the destination safely and on.

Speaker 2 (01:25:17):
Time, okay you, bet all, Right thanks to. YOU i appreciate.

Speaker 7 (01:25:21):
It, okay, great take care of all.

Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
Right that Is Geene watson from The Chicago White. Sox.

Speaker 1 (01:25:26):
There, YEAH i forgot who it. Was they had that
they trying to swatt at a spider or. Something threw
his shoulder out or. Something it was one of one
of those. Deals it was a scary when when he
played For cleveland IF i remember, correctly and and it's
either shoulder or his back or something like that with spiders,

(01:25:47):
spiders he was like scared of a, spider was swatting
in a spider and was uh it was afraid or
maybe our Resident guardians fan can can text the show
and let us know who that.

Speaker 2 (01:26:00):
WAS i just remember that deal.

Speaker 3 (01:26:02):
Happening is A Spider clark who played from eighteen. Sixty
no he only lived for thirty.

Speaker 1 (01:26:09):
Years, no, no it was it was twenty Four no no, no, no, no,
no that wasn't it was a.

Speaker 7 (01:26:16):
Guy it.

Speaker 2 (01:26:16):
Was it was in the. Eighties it's. Happened it may
come back come to me during the.

Speaker 1 (01:26:21):
Break all, right coming, up we're gonna hear some more
comments From longhorn's head, Coach Steve sarkisi when we continue
on thirteen under the. Zone so we have the answer on,
that And cameron unearthed the answer with the. THING i
was trying to remember a guy who played For cleveland
who had some sort of issue with spiders that led
to a bizarre. Injury and you found it the one

(01:26:42):
and Only Glenn Allen.

Speaker 2 (01:26:43):
Hill when you.

Speaker 1 (01:26:43):
Said the, NAME i was, like that's. It it's that.
Dude and then you gave the. Details Glenn Allen hill
who played for The Chicago. Cubs let's, see he played
from what eighty nine to two thousand and?

Speaker 2 (01:26:54):
One, yeah but when he with The indians at the.
Time what are you With? Cleveland oh the picture shows
him in The.

Speaker 3 (01:27:01):
Cubs, okay actually The Blue. Jays, sorry he was playing
for The Blue. Jays Blue. Jays but this is the, Story,
Craig i'm trying to figure. Out this is nineteen ninety,
yep nineteen, ninety so this is this would have been
either his rookie year or the second year he was
in the majors and one night Mister hill was asleep

(01:27:26):
and all of a sudden got an extreme case of a. Rachnophobia,
yeah he was at his. Base he was scared of spiders,
anyway wasn't. He, well so the story, is you, know he's,
sleeping he has a, dream a spider's in, it And,
hill who's kind of in this semi conscience, state jumped
out of his, bed runs into another, room thinking that

(01:27:49):
there are spiders on him or, whatnot ends up crashing
through a glass table and suffers bruises on his, feet
legs and. Elbows the next day he goes on the
fifteen day D. L h read the season mark, spiders,
right that's how. Spiders so Afterwards hill he didn't he
didn't want to admit, that you, know he's In, Iraq iraq,

(01:28:11):
noophobiac he, said, No, no it was more about my stress and.

Speaker 2 (01:28:14):
Diet.

Speaker 3 (01:28:14):
Quote spiders just happened to be WHAT i dreamt about that.
Night he could have been about a car that kept
running over. Me it could have been about you, know. Caterpillars. Quote,
okay all, right well so there it was. Interesting and
by the, way our Resident guardians fan chimed, in but
we'd already finished up With geno what he?

Speaker 2 (01:28:33):
Said ask please Ask gino.

Speaker 1 (01:28:36):
If he thinks which he, THINKS wi happened first the
end of the Series Gray's anatomy or The guardians still
Giving Gabriel arias major league at bats because it's hadn't
been going well off of, THAT i.

Speaker 3 (01:28:48):
Understand What grayson? Is what year twenty something like? That
what year Is Gray's? Anatomy have you have you watched
a single episode Of Gray's?

Speaker 2 (01:28:56):
Anatomy? Yeah you. Have my late wife used to really
be into.

Speaker 3 (01:29:00):
It, Oh it's first episode came out Before texas won
their last national championship in.

Speaker 2 (01:29:07):
Football think about. That Vin schung was playing football for
The Texas Long corners when the premiere Of Gray's anatomy
AIRED o Three march twenty, seven two thousand and, five
two thousand and. Five, okay.

Speaker 1 (01:29:19):
My late Wife laurie really liked that. Show and you
know why she liked that? Show it never. Ends, no
there's got to be eight million. Episodes, yeah she had
a thing For Patrick. Dempsey, okay she Liked.

Speaker 3 (01:29:32):
Patrick, hey he's been a multi or, yeah multi sexiest man.
Alive when, yeah she she really she really liked herself
From Patrick. Dempsey so that was that was, Why that's
why she started watching. It but then she really got into,
it into the show and.

Speaker 1 (01:29:48):
Said you know, WHAT i watched the other night and
watched a single episode of. It but at my Wife linda's,
SUGGESTION i watched the season finale with her because she'd
seen every episode up to that point of The White
lotus in your.

Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
Thoughts it was, intriguing it was in for.

Speaker 1 (01:30:13):
Now she gave me a pretty good primer on it
to WHERE i could learn some things and understood some
things about.

Speaker 2 (01:30:19):
It and AND i always liked We you had not
seen any previous, episodes not.

Speaker 1 (01:30:23):
One, episode BUT i jumped in on the season finale of,
it and it was it was interesting. Enough i've always
Liked Jason isaacs the. Actor for folks who don't know
Who Jason isaacs, is he Was Lucius malfoy And Harry.
Potter he was the, long white haired father Of Draco.
Malfoy it was just a mean. Guy if you saw

(01:30:46):
the Movie The, patriot he Was, tavington the ruthless uh you,
know cavalry.

Speaker 2 (01:30:52):
Colonel, Yeah Jason.

Speaker 1 (01:30:53):
Isaacs and supposedly the family that he was head of
was From North. Carolina, yes so have you heard the,
Backlash well That Parker posey at least she kind of
had a little bit Of carolina, accent.

Speaker 2 (01:31:06):
A little bit That. Oh's they could the, Rest, yeah
the rest of, THEM i didn't. THINK i THINK i
thought it was.

Speaker 3 (01:31:12):
Great so he the family, is they're All duke grabs
except for the, Wife Parker.

Speaker 2 (01:31:19):
Posey but throughout the.

Speaker 3 (01:31:21):
Show throughout the, season one of the common themes Is
Jonathan isaacs And Jason jason AND I place for The Orlando.
Magic Jason isaac's the actor is thinking about, suicide so
he's Wearing i'll be wearing A duke shirt with a
gun in his. Hand, Well Duke university didn't like how
he was portraying the, university so they came out AGAINST,
hbo condemning how the character was portrayed and how they

(01:31:45):
use the university's. Name, now my thought, Is i'm SURE
hbo had to go to the university and ask for
permission to be able to wear.

Speaker 2 (01:31:54):
Shirt maybe ask, hey is.

Speaker 3 (01:31:57):
Our character going to try and kill his family in
in this?

Speaker 2 (01:32:00):
Show maybe kind of think.

Speaker 1 (01:32:01):
That out, first you, know because, yeah you're gonna try
to poison your family using the poisonous for death suicide,
scene the suicide. Tree, yeah from, that it was. Compelling
there was a. Lot i've always Liked Scott glenn as an,
actor and he. Is he's a much older version of
himself to, anyway it was pretty. Interesting it kind of

(01:32:22):
reminded me OF i was a big student Of. SHAKESPEARE
i took A shakespeare analysis course in. COLLEGE i used
to tell people THAT i got out of there On
New hamlets underwear.

Speaker 2 (01:32:32):
Size you. Know it was it was just really really in.

Speaker 1 (01:32:34):
Depth On shakespeare and it kind of had the feel
of almost Some shakespearean.

Speaker 3 (01:32:39):
Tragedy there's a lot Of greek mythology themes where to
get what you want you end up losing what you
love the, most which is kind of maybe a little
bit of a, spoiler but With Walter coggin's, character, yeah
and his girlfriend in the. Chase so, yeah, yeah it's
so you watch it, Then, okay SO i watched it

(01:32:59):
the other night for the first.

Speaker 1 (01:33:00):
Time but it it was interesting, Interesting, yeah, yeah it.
Was all, right let's hear a little more from Us
sor before we get done with. TODAY a couple other.
Things first of, all a couple of comments from. Him
portal season is blooming it's. Blossoming so Does sara anticipate

(01:33:24):
being active in the spring?

Speaker 2 (01:33:25):
Portal, well we're we're we're.

Speaker 5 (01:33:28):
Always going to evaluate the, portal you, know and as you,
know for those that, KNOW i, mean we we really
try to identify the portal to where we think there's a.
Need but yet also is the person we're bringing an
upgrade to maybe what we have or can it can
it supplement what we have at certain.

Speaker 6 (01:33:45):
Positions naturally there's a couple of.

Speaker 5 (01:33:47):
Positions depth, wise we're not where we need to be right,
now so we'll we'll look at the portal that. Way
our numbers are down at receiver right, now you, know
from a scholarship, standpoint our numbers are down on the
defensive line from from where our numbers really should. Be
uh and our numbers really down at tight. End and
so it's not a secret that will we'll look to the.
Portal BUT i don't want to take a guy just

(01:34:08):
for a. Number i'll want to take. It if you're
gonna go on the, portal can he help that that
room play at even a higher. Level and so we'll
have to assess. It you know what we you, know
it's it's it's free. AGENCY i like to, say but
but they have to opt into free, agency and so
it's not like you can just, say, hey we need
a defensive, tackle let's go.

Speaker 6 (01:34:28):
Get a really good.

Speaker 5 (01:34:28):
One if they're, Available, sure we'll try, to but that
doesn't mean that that that that caliber a player will
be available to.

Speaker 1 (01:34:35):
Them seems like we Hear sartin say this every, year
because he gets asked every year about. This you're going
to be active in the Part he's, like we're not
going to take a player just to take a player
is there has to be a need and there has
to be somebody who who they think can fit and
fill that.

Speaker 2 (01:34:50):
Need that's that's the universal answer to. That.

Speaker 1 (01:34:54):
Uh he was Asked, also what's been the most rewarding
and challenging part of the?

Speaker 6 (01:34:57):
Spring they're the.

Speaker 5 (01:34:58):
Same the most rewarding is watching young people get better
from one practice to the, next and that we've got
to coach every SINGLE i mean we literally are coaching every.
Play that's the most challenging part, Too right when you
have so many young players and so many new faces
that you can Assume Calik lockett And Jamie french are

(01:35:21):
gonna know what to do every play on even on
something that could be as, simple because LIKE i, said
they may have learned it four practices, ago but we've
stacked installs on, them and so we've got to coach
every single. Play and is that challenging as a, Coach,
sure but it's also rewarding and gratifying when you start
to see them get it and you start to see
them grow and get better from day to.

Speaker 1 (01:35:39):
Day all, right all, right so there it is comments
from us. Ark all, right we'll be back to wrap
up today's edition of the program here on thirteen under The.
