Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
My name is Craig Way.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
As I always say, if Wednesday is indeed your hump day,
hopefully we can help you get over that hump and
the downhill run to the weekend. For those of you
whose week begins on Wednesday, I hope it's off to
a good start and that it rolls through. And for
those of you who the fortunate, at least as far
as today is concern, are at the end of your

(00:27):
work week, good on you, Good for you, and hope
you enjoyed the next couple of days or however long
you have. My name is Craig Wait. Thanks for joining us. US,
of course includes the producer Cameron d Park of the
d On The birth certificate stands for Dallas as in
the Cowboys, if his favorite pro football team that he
periodically cares about or not, And there's a lot of

(00:48):
of course, this is the way Jerry Jones likes it.
But there's a lot of attention on this football team,
on the Cowboys for a couple of reasons. And I'm
going to get to the a moment, but let me
tell you what we have coming up on the program,
we're gonna hear from long horn football players.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
Coming up.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
In a few minutes, we'll hear from Anthony Hill, a
Long Corns linebacker. We will run down what is, at least,
in one set of opinions, the one hundred best or
at least most important football players in college football, according
to at least one particular survey. We do have inconceivable

(01:29):
coming up this hour as well, So we'll do that,
and in the three o'clock hour, we'll hear from the
man who is quarterbacking the secondary, the guy who is
back of Michael Chaff we'll hear from him in the
three o'clock hour. In the four o'clock hour, the quarterback

(01:49):
of the football team, And that's our spanning, so we'll
hear from him coming up as well. But before we
jump to all of that again, most every time a
story comes up about the cowboy Uh these days, it's
probably not painted in the most positive light. And so
that's why I'm always curious to get Cameron's thoughts on this.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
So now it's.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
Kind of like heightened interest, not only because of what's
happened with the Micah Parsons hold in as they say,
since he's been around the team and the camp and
all that kind of stuff. Uh. But but not playing
but it's but but also about the Netflix documentary and
I haven't watched it.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Is it out now? Is it already out?

Speaker 1 (02:34):
I mean I've seen little snippets of it, things like that,
is it already out there for folks who have Netflix
and want to check that out and see if it's
even you know, available yet? Because I got to tell
you why you were gone to Mexico. My wife and
I did some just this side of binge watching. It
took us two weeks, but we watched three seasons of

(02:54):
the Gilded Age.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
It's done, it's done.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
We saw the at least the first three seasons are
in the books, so so we're done with that. So
I'm wondering about, you know, what our next uh uh
viewing project might be.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
But I know is this is this? Uh? What is it?
Kingpin Cowboys thing? Is it? Is it the Gambler Deal?

Speaker 1 (03:17):
Is that?

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Is that already in the books now? I believe it
came out yesterday. I was listening to the Morning Kickoff
with Mike Hart this morning, who had his own little
segment review of it. So I can listen to that,
uh for hardest breakdown. But you know, I've heard good
things about it. We've had a couple of discussions on
this program about you know, sports documentaries and how you know,

(03:37):
we're at the point now where some of them are
a little oversaturated and a lot of them actually are
developed and produced by athletes, and you've got to be warey,
you know, and a lot of people. I love the
last Dance, but you could tell it's from his perspective,
is all over that, right, Ye. If I'm told by
Scottie Pippen or Isaiah Thomas or Jerry Krause, uh may
he rest in peace, it'd be a much different dog

(04:00):
gi metry. But from from this point, I know the
Cowboys and Jerry Jones were heavily involved in that.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
I've heard good things about it.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
And you know, I wasn't born when the Cowboys won
their last Super Bowl, so I kind of missed that
entire generation, which is crazy thing. At one point the
Cowboys were actually America's team, were an actual good foot.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
They were the center of the football universe. Who can
take my word for it on that?

Speaker 3 (04:23):
So I kind of want to you know, I kind
of want to watch and I would be very interested
in seeing the stories. I'm sure there's some fantastic stories
with with just Michael Irvin alone, you have to mention
Troy Aikman and Emit Smith and a bunch of other legends.
So I'm in on. I think I came out last night.
Definitely gonna have to watch it before football season starts.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Okay, all right, all right, so I may give that
a viewing up this week. So meanwhile, the Cowboys have
one more preseason game left, that's Friday night against the
Atlanta Falcons.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
It's at home, and.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
We get to see Jayden Blue, who's healthy, gain in working,
and apparently he's going to get the started tailback. So
what one thing you can say about Brian Schottenheimer is
that it looks like he is definitely scouring, scouring every
element he has to try to build this team. And
he said, well, yeah, of course that's what head coaches do. Yeah,

(05:19):
but you just didn't get that perspective or that vibe,
that feeling when Mike McCarthy was running and it was
kind of like, ah, this is at boom plug and
playing go. It sounds like and looks like from what
we've observed, during the summer that shoddy, as a lot
of people like to call him, really has dived into it,

(05:42):
rolled up his sleeve, got his staff around him to
try to kind of weave through the weeds and find the.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Best pieces to make this thing go.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
Yeah, there's definitely a fresh perspective around the Dallas Cowboys
right now, and I think largely that it's due to
Brian Schottenheimer coming in. And I wouldn't say he completely,
you know, rebuilt the Dallas Cowboys culture, but he's definitely
his fingerprints are on it a little bit more. I
think he's more hands on than Mike McCarthy, and I
think they're two completely different football coaches. I think McCarthy
more of a CEO versus Schottenheimer, who was the offensive

(06:14):
coordinator before taking this head coaching job, more involved.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
You know, I am.

Speaker 3 (06:19):
Hesitant to say I'm excited for the season because you know,
the whether it's the Michael Parsons situation, whether it's just
the injuries getting the pole up, or the depth at
running back or on the defensive side. But definitely, and
I think a lot of Cowboys fans kind of agree.
They do feel a little bit better about this team.
In the coaching staff. I mean, Matt Eberflus was a

(06:44):
fantastic defensive coordinator before taking over as the head coach
for the Chicgo Bears and didn't work out. And sometimes
sometimes a coordinator does not work out as a head
coach does not mean he's a bad defensive coordinator or
a bad offensive coordinator, right that That just happens.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
And sometimes sometimes a guy who is an outstanding coordinator
doesn't work out as a head coach at one spot
because of one one reason or another, but ends up
working out another spot.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
The poster chat for that is Pete Carroll.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Yeah, it didn't work with the Patriots, and boy when
he got in the college level at USC, we saw
what he did there, and then obviously with the Seahawks
as well.

Speaker 3 (07:21):
You can say even Bill Belichick, right, Yes, the Cleveland
Browns didn't work out for him there, but certainly worked
out for him with New England. We'll see how it
works out at UNC Chapel Hill. But you feel good
about you feel optimistic. Cautiously optimistic, I think would be
the phrase to describe the Dallas Cowboys this year. And
for Jayden Blue, it's a great opportunity but at the

(07:42):
same time it kind of tells you, you know where
the depth is apt. The Cowboys in the running back
room going to rely heavily on Javonte Williams, but can
he stay healthy? Film offa the former Clemson running backs
getting a lot of carry in pre season. Of course
there's Jus Fawn, the former Cedar Ridge product. So the
running back position it will be very fluid this year.
I just worry about the health and especially for Jayden Blue,

(08:04):
because I don't know. He's a fantastic running back, He's
a fantastic third down running back. I worry if he
turns into in every down back. Can his body stay up,
stay stay up with the physicality each week. So it's
a spot of question, but we knew that going in.
But I think he's gonna thrive under Schottenheimer's office.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
One other thing I was amused by yesterday and you'll
hear it in the four o'clock hour arch Manning's post
practice media availability yesterday and he was asked about the
business of his grandfather, Archie Manning, saying that he's definitely
going to stay there for two years. And you'll hear

(08:44):
Art say, yeah, I don't know where he got that,
and then he texted me later and said he was
sorry about it.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
That kind of you. I'm just taking it to day
at a time now.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
It did not take Field Yates, the NFL draft expert
for ESPN long, to pick up on that.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
He already has one of those very early mock drafts
set of predictions. He has arts is the number one
pick overall going to the Cleveland Browns, which uh A
might sound kind of crazy depending on, you know, uh
what kind of season Arch has h b whether he
decides to return to Texas or go to the NFL,
or see the fact that the Cleveland Browns find themselves

(09:27):
in another draft needing another quarterback again they have for
the roster right now, Yeah, yeah, right, and and and
so you know, and and still you know Deshaun Watson,
you know.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
So so.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
That's that's why it's kind of it's amusing, uh to
see that that they may end up having to go
that route yet again.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
And and this is just my opinion.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
I think that all those reaching for quarterbacks over the years,
the Tim Couches of the world, and and you know,
Johnny manziel and and even Baker Mayfield who has been
able to carve out a career in the NFL, but
it didn't work well with Cleveland. But all of that
I think has stunted the growth of the Browns and
trying to rebuild into an annual contender. They made the

(10:17):
playoffs once for years ago, but to be able to
make it as an annual contender, I think while they
continue to you know, throw darts at the dartboard hoping
that they land in the center on a quarterback. And
I know the quarterback has to be the centerpiece of
your success of the football team, but they've done it
so many times that I think it's really kind of
prevented them from being able to compete on a regular

(10:40):
basis with the Baltimore's and Cincinnati's and Pittsburgh of the
AFC North.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Because of that, two quarterbacks in his last year's draft
is selected. And before that, I mean, you go down
you mentioned, you know, just three quarterbacks they've drafted. You know,
they drafted dtr Dorian Thompson, Robin Robinson twenty twenty three quarterback.
The last quarterback before that, you know, Baker in the

(11:06):
first round. But they had a you know, they had
a period Deshaun Kaiser was drafted. You know, Cody Kessler
was drafted. Think about all those draft picks, you know,
five six guys. You know you obviously it's for vision
is history, Craig, but you go back through, it's like, Okay,
you know, we could have used one of those draft
picks on a receiver if it's aligneman player the secondary.
And to give the Browns credit, they have a fantastic defense.

(11:28):
They've had a great defense the last couple of years.
Even you know with Baker Mayfield, maybe they didn't have
the best you know, weapons, the best offensive line. But
you start looking back on it and it's like, man,
we could have used some of those picks at least
on a different portion of the roster. And honestly, I
think with the quarterback spot, I think a lot of
it comes from possibly the ownership. Now I know, I

(11:50):
think it's Jimmy Haslam right as the owner. He said
he did not make the call on Doorge Sanders, But
did he make the call on Dylan Gabriel. We know
he made the call in the Shawn Watson that was
his whole expertise was was signing to Shawn Watson and
giving him that fully guaranteed contract. So I think sometimes
there could be a power struggle in Cleveland. I think
that happens to a lot of sports teams where you know,

(12:12):
the GM, the front office, you know, may have their plan,
but at the end of the day, the team is
owned by somebody else. But if he wants to go
out and shine sign the Shawn Watson, he can go
and do that. He has that call. If he wants
to call in and say, hey, I want to take
this quarterback. You know, sometimes he has power, he has
veto power. So you know, for Cleveland, it's weird that

(12:32):
you draft two quarterbacks in the same draft, especially when
you're paying the Shawn Watson, you know, fully guaranteed contract.
I think that kind of goes to you have the
owner wanting one thing and the front office wanting another.
But I mean, from what we've seen so far in
the preseason, you feel pretty good about the Shaudor Sanders pick.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
Dylan Gabriel. You know, I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
I think he's a great competitor, but in terms of
an NFL quarterback, I don't know if he has the
traits for that.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
But sad Or might, So we'll see.

Speaker 3 (13:02):
With the guards to the Arch Manning and I think
hopefully most Texas fans probably have realized this now I
know you have, Craig, don't read in too much to
the draft stuff coming about arch Manning.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Same thing with Queen yours, right.

Speaker 3 (13:14):
I feel like a lot of it is like, hey,
it's quitting them to the clear after his first year,
what about a second year? Just wait until the seasons
over with, enjoy the time because a lot of times,
you know what, Arts probably hasn't. Arch isn't even thinking
about the draft right now. He's thinking about Ohio State
Week one. And that might sound like coach peak, but
I think it's the case with Arch Manning. I think

(13:35):
he will not be thinking about the NFL Draft and
declaring until maybe December, right after this year is almost
over with in Texas is about to play for neither
their postseason games or whatnot, and then you decide what
your next step.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
What we've learned in this very early part of Arch
being the centerpiece of the football program is that he
does take things methodically and on a day by day basis.
So that's that's good, that's in his favor right now,
all right, Coming up next, we will shift back to

(14:10):
the Longhorns, and we'll hear from Anthony Hill, the Long
Horns linebacker when we continue here on this Wednesday afternoon
on thirteen under the Zone. So it is a yacht
rock Wednesday here on thirteen under the Zone. But also
additionally it's a Wednesday where we hear from Long WRN
football players and from Long Wrn's head coach, Steve Sarksian.
So let's start it off from the player side. I

(14:35):
was listening to the morning kickoff this morning, Mike Hardball.
Hart's talking about Anthony Hill supporting a new hairstyle and
getting into it. But Anthony Hill is ant is aunt.
He is all about getting ready for the start of
the season. Has a great perspective on a veteran who's.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Made a lot of strike.

Speaker 1 (14:52):
So here's here's the Q and A he had going
on with the media here with Longhorns linebacker Anthony Hill.

Speaker 4 (15:00):
I just feel like I needed a fresh start going
into the season. I mean, this is a nice little
fresh start, and what's been the.

Speaker 5 (15:06):
Biggest surprise on defense for you during the preseason.

Speaker 4 (15:10):
I feel like our communication has been really good within
like the linebackers in the secondary, I feel like we've
been doing a great job communicating, getting the cause right,
and got a couple of young guys kind of stepping.

Speaker 6 (15:19):
Up in and doing that thing.

Speaker 4 (15:20):
For those young guys, I'll say Grayson and Xavier Exaber's
been really stepping up, even getting some ret with the
ones and twos, like kind of stepping up in the
growing since since last.

Speaker 7 (15:29):
Year, I think, I do you think this team's gonna
handle the expectations of that are associated with being the
number one team in the country and all that preseason hype.

Speaker 4 (15:37):
I mean, of course we see it because we're all
in the same in and as y'all, but we kind
of like ignore it and kind of just focusing on
us and just try to focus on what we need
to do every day to be the be the best
team we can be.

Speaker 8 (15:46):
Is it hurt to ignore the outside that.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
I mean, it's not. It's not really hard to ignore.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
Like if you just focus on what you need to
do every day, like coming to practice. We had a
hard practice to day. You just focus on that, then
get ready for tomorrow, watch the film, and you don't
really want to look at all the hype. Then that's
when you get caught up in it and just just
ruins your focus to.

Speaker 9 (16:02):
Handle that because he can't even wrong fire people out
somebody trying to get all the graph of those that height.

Speaker 4 (16:08):
He's been doing a good job. I mean he stays
focused every day. I mean he's just the last one in,
first one in here, last one out every day. So
he's doing a good job appearing and get ready for the.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
For the big games.

Speaker 8 (16:17):
What's what's the person most started tampers.

Speaker 4 (16:20):
I mean he's he brings the energy every day. I
mean he's been working on the strike heep being striking
really well, playing physical and fast. I mean that's all
you can ask fast for what we.

Speaker 10 (16:27):
Followed, Is it like noticeable how physical he is because
he's hoigh.

Speaker 4 (16:30):
Yeah, I mean since since he is a little i'll
say a little a little slender, he has to be
a little bit more physical than everybody else. I mean
he has to bring a little bit more on every
every pop. And he's been doing a good job doing
that and working at it.

Speaker 9 (16:41):
What what is arch? You know?

Speaker 11 (16:43):
How is he progressed? Your defense is pretty salty. He's
trying to get to justin with a new linemen and receivers.
But what are you seeing in terms of his progress
for camp.

Speaker 4 (16:53):
He's been he's been doing a good job and stending
the players with his legs, like just you know, breaking
out the pocket and he's standing the plays.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Receivers been doing a good job.

Speaker 4 (16:59):
But we're with them and kitching some of these some
of these deep balls and some of the intermediate passes.

Speaker 9 (17:03):
Y'all got some new defensive tackles.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
You got to which those guys are doing their best
job and kind of.

Speaker 9 (17:08):
Keeping those walkers off the off.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
I'll say all of them have has been doing a
good job in their own way, some of some of
them specialized in different stuff, but collectively they've been doing
a good job of kind of working together and making
a making a good statement.

Speaker 8 (17:21):
I know you're not a real big trash talk though.

Speaker 5 (17:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (17:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
What what was it.

Speaker 12 (17:26):
Like being miked up during that practice session and what
it was like to.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
Be honest, I forgot I was even miked up, Like
they told me I was doing it. I was all, okay, cool,
But then I'll just be myself. I wasn't really just
thinking about being miked up. I was just out there practicing,
having a good scrimmage.

Speaker 10 (17:38):
You know, how important is that communication not on the
field specifically see then that Cliff, you're really talking guys
along with Yeah.

Speaker 4 (17:45):
I mean I feel like you said part of football.
I mean, you gotta have fun while you're playing. If
you're not having fun, then what's the point of being
out here. So I'll just try to enjoy the moments
and just enjoyed some of the moments of my teammates.

Speaker 8 (17:54):
About change this year, I mean its pKa and.

Speaker 12 (17:57):
For charging anything differently from last year.

Speaker 4 (18:00):
I feel like we've been doing a good job of
kind of keeping everything everything not the same, but just
tweaking some stuff. We've been tweaking a little bit of stuff,
but nothing too much towards just drastically different. But I
really like what we've been doing. I feel like we're
gonna have a good scheme.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
That'sh sh tweaking that at all. Uh, not not too much.

Speaker 13 (18:17):
You know.

Speaker 4 (18:17):
We just some stuff we looked at last year and
the jesting, and we're gonna keep working on that and
just get better going in the week.

Speaker 11 (18:21):
One dessert chip on the shoulder with guys like you,
to have the veterans who've been so close.

Speaker 4 (18:29):
Yeah, I think, I mean we think about it. I mean,
how could you not think about it losing in those
games back to back, But then again, we want to
focus on day by day and not think about the
national championship. We gotta go win week one before we
can go think about winning week sixteen. So I'm just
taking a week by week and just make it. Then
we can look back and think about all that stuff
when we get to the the SEC Championship and that's stuff,

(18:50):
then we can focus on that type of stuff.

Speaker 7 (18:52):
And you get to schedule as a whole A yard
after play, Yeah, what excites you're going.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
I mean a lot of tough games.

Speaker 4 (18:59):
I mean we gotta go play of course a hotstak
week one, and then we go play Florida, some of
these OU teams, these Vanderbilt teams. I mean, we got
a lot of challenges. This shit should be a really
fun season for us, and I'm just looking forward to,
like playing some of these elite teams.

Speaker 9 (19:11):
You don't trade more line back.

Speaker 5 (19:12):
Yeah, we're sitting his biggest area of growth as a linebacker.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Prinstans from fall camp.

Speaker 4 (19:18):
I'm just seeing his footwork has been so much better,
Like he's seeing the game as a as a linebacker
now instead as an edge and just ability to still
go down on the edge and do some of that stuff.
Has been really big for him. I feel like he's
gonna have a great year kind of being that combo
guy for us playing some edge playing some linebacker player's
gonna have a great season.

Speaker 8 (19:33):
How was your footwork commute to the layman, right, yeah,
How is your footwork different as an edge which is
as a linebacker.

Speaker 6 (19:39):
Wise everything is sped up a little bit.

Speaker 4 (19:41):
Just understanding slow down, Like if you see some you
see somebody pulling, you don't gotta go like box it
right now. Kind of go slow play and see what's
going on, and you'll maybe gonna make the play because
he may miss you or some of that little stuff.
But you see a slider, may have to fall back
a little slower. Just little stuff like that that you
wouldn't necessarily get as an edge player as you as
you have to do as a linebacker then in the past
game kind of some of those concepts he's kind of

(20:02):
understanding now, kind of getting dig windows and doing some
of that little stuff.

Speaker 8 (20:06):
Were you ever to see neither for teammates.

Speaker 14 (20:08):
Fast weekend in the league do the game?

Speaker 2 (20:10):
Oh yeah, I was.

Speaker 4 (20:10):
I seen macool I was watching j Ford all those guys.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
I was watching them make some plays.

Speaker 4 (20:14):
Of course you've seen it all over Instagram. I was
seeing it, so it was really cool seeing some of
them make plays personally.

Speaker 9 (20:19):
For you, what is that completely when you watch.

Speaker 4 (20:21):
This, h I mean, it's pretty cool knowing that I
work with those guys every day. But you know, I'm
just trying to stay focused in the moment, just keep
working and hopefully I get there eventually.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
So they made your snaps.

Speaker 12 (20:30):
I mean, you probably won't be out there all several snaps,
but they rather cut you down to thirty forty you
stay fresh or.

Speaker 4 (20:37):
I'm gonna let you know, Coach Ninsen and come of
the staff kind of focus on that. I'm just gonna
go out there and play withever many snaps they want.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
Me to play.

Speaker 9 (20:43):
How would you say that the defense did? And the
scrimmage is the first scrimmage and the second scrimmager.

Speaker 4 (20:48):
I'll say, I love how physical we are, Like we're
a really physical football team or defensively, So one thing
that's all I ask for. We play physical and we
be smart. That's one thing I can ask for. If
we can lay with the results.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
You have to see sall lot since us on the
road past two years.

Speaker 8 (21:01):
Yet personally, what are you enjoy Okay on the road.

Speaker 4 (21:03):
I love playing on the road. I mean you get
to hear everybody on the defense. The communication and just
seeing the fans after the game just clear and now
it's just a it's a great feeling. I love away games.
It's some of the some of the best stuff you
can play in.

Speaker 10 (21:15):
Trick Collins pretty excited about how.

Speaker 8 (21:17):
To say, name a starter.

Speaker 10 (21:18):
What's the like having a guy at the defense he's
kind of not afraid to show that emotion online and
on the field.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
It's cool.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
I mean he's a guy that's gonna go out there
and play and be ready. So if you feel like that,
I mean he's got I know he's gonna back it
up and be ready to go.

Speaker 12 (21:29):
Pet his past favorite. The main emphasis you won't improved.

Speaker 9 (21:34):
Some slash year.

Speaker 4 (21:35):
Uh, you know, I kind of work on my game
just a little by little. I mean I didn't really
focus on one particular thing. I just try to become
better as a whole, as a as a football player.

Speaker 9 (21:44):
Guess one. So every if you have a doc you
sentence LA came out.

Speaker 10 (21:49):
Yeah, Yeah, your big game Yeah, how do you feel
like your player is represents you?

Speaker 8 (21:53):
And do you use it a lot?

Speaker 15 (21:55):
Uh?

Speaker 16 (21:55):
I kind of.

Speaker 4 (21:56):
I'm a big like Ultimate Team guy, So I've been
on Ultimate Team.

Speaker 2 (21:58):
I had got a couple of cars. I have been
able to play recently.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
But of course I've been playing a little bit of
Awesome Team, playing some Madden here and there, So of
course I've been loving the game so far.

Speaker 14 (22:07):
Would you say the defense is one just because I.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Got got him, I got him.

Speaker 9 (22:16):
One of the strangers.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
I wouldn't say one, but of course I'm gonna say
it again. I feel like we were really physical and
I feel like we did a good job at the
line of scrimmage. He's pretty you know, he's he's not
very fast, but he's not really fast.

Speaker 2 (22:30):
But I mean he made a couple of plays for
PBUs and Peaks.

Speaker 9 (22:34):
How is that not giving?

Speaker 2 (22:36):
I don't know, man.

Speaker 4 (22:36):
Maybe that I look at your catapult numbers, they see
the I don't.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Know how they do it.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
So there's the thoughts of Anthony Hill, Longhorns linebacker, and
you have that good, comfortable feeling knowing he's back there
anchoring that linebacker corps and he's got good help on, uh,
you know, all the way around him and in the
secondary on the defensive front as well. Neither artist or
group of which Cameron Parker has even heard of.

Speaker 2 (23:02):
Who, Yeah, that's what I thought. That's what I thought.
Oh I've heard the nitty Gritty dirt Man.

Speaker 3 (23:06):
Yeah, mister bo Jangles, Yeah, I know you know that song, which, yeah,
guessing probably isn't your favorite.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Oh it's okay, Yeah, it's okay, it's it's already. It
was a hit back in I think seventy one or
whatever it was back then. So and they're still touring.
They still get out and tour around. So anyway, continuing
only got rock Wednesday here on thirteen hunderd the Zone.

Speaker 2 (23:28):
Do you see what the Yankees did last night, back
to back to back.

Speaker 1 (23:32):
Not only that Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, gian Carlo Stanton
with consecutive home runs in the first inning they beat
the race thirteen three, But perhaps even more impressive, they
hit a total of nine home runs and they so

(23:56):
that was a franchise record. Tyme nine home runs. Now
that's saying something when you consider that the Yankees had,
of course, Babe Ruth and Luke Greg and Joe Demaggio,
em Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson had all those great home
run hitters for a while, but that tied the franchise
record with record tying nine home runs in the game. Also,

(24:18):
they became the first team in Major League history to
have two games with nine home runs in the same
season or otherwise according to MLB dot com, because they
hit nine home runs earlier this year when they beat
the Brewers back in March twenty to nine. Now you say, well,
how are the Yankees doing overall? Weren't they slipping and

(24:40):
sliding and all that. Yes, the answer to that is, yes,
they were struggling. War is the keyward there. But now
the Yankees seem to be kind of righting the ship
and getting their act back together. Now they're still trailing
the Blue Jays, but they're within five.

Speaker 2 (24:58):
Games of the Blue Jayson.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
They've won seven of their last ten, and they won
four in a row, so you know, I have to
keep an eye on them. The Red Sox being while
they're slumping, they were red hot, but now they've dropped
seven of their last ten, including three straight, and Toronto
is just kind of treading water right now.

Speaker 2 (25:15):
But they still had the lead there.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Even Tampa Bay still with a shot in the to
wind up as a wildcard team. They're they're back off
the pace a little bit, but they'd have to do
it right now. If you were talking about who would
be the wildcard teams. The Tigers are on top in
the Central the Astros, and we'll get into talking about this,

(25:39):
because the Astros have forgotten out of score runs, or
if they haven't forgotten, they've completely lost the ability of
late to score runs. And we'll talk about that and
what's going on in the American League West. The sad
truth of it canvas that the Texas Rangers have been
not able to take advantage because the Astros hadn't scored
a run in a few days and the Rangers have

(26:00):
dropped eight of their last ten.

Speaker 3 (26:02):
Well, the Astros can't score, the Rangers can barely score
because their offense.

Speaker 2 (26:06):
They can't do it very well enough.

Speaker 1 (26:10):
We'll talk about the baseball races in the standings going on,
and also some college football, Yes, the latest group of
rankings and ratings. We'll get to that, and we're gonna
hear from Michael taff All that coming up, and our
number two. I'm here on thirteen hundred the Zone. Happy
to have you with us this afternoon. Craig wait alongside

(26:31):
the producer Cameron Parker, and as always happy to hear
from you as well. Coming up here in just a
few minutes, we're gonna hear from Michael Taff, the log
Worn's Safety, So we'll hear from him. He's always entertaining
and always got some interesting perspectives on things, and so

(26:53):
we'll hear from Michael Taff coming up here in just
a few moments. Also, we're gonna talk about this latest
set of college football rankings. And it's not team rankings,
it's individual things. I mentioned this last week, I've mentioned it,
I think a couple other times as well. This is

(27:13):
the time of year where you see all sorts of
pre season evaluations, ratings, rankings, perspectives, all that stuff. Because
this is really and truly the time of year to
do it. You do it before the season gets going,
because once the season kicks off, and it kicks off
for the Texas Longhorns in ten days in Columbus, Ohio,

(27:35):
once that happens, then we're just into the belly of
the beast. At that point, we are in it, and
you know, we dive headlong into it. What cam on
Monday with Sarks first in season press conference of the year,
and we're just and we dive in and we don't
come up for air for a while because we've got that.

(27:55):
We hear from long worn players, all that other kind
of stuff, and we're in game mode. We're pretty much,
you know, getting everybody ready for the start of the
football season. Like we'll visit with the opposing teams play
by play guy every week.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
Paul Keel's a good time.

Speaker 1 (28:09):
Yeah, big daddy, good friend of mine is the voice
of the Ohiostate Buck guys will join us next week.
So anyway, we've got all that going. And so other
than the in the moment review of what happens on
a game that was played on Saturday and we go
in for the review so to speak, and the reaction

(28:30):
to it on Monday and hearing from the coaches and
hearing from the players. Other than that, there's not a
lot of analysis. And then when we get to later
in the week, it's a preview of the next opponent.
So it's a it's a little bit different look. So
this is this is the time of year before it
gets going and it's about to get going, and I
might add it's about to get the going on the
high school level as well, so we'll look for that.

(28:51):
Are you in the grid? Probably to do some more
high school football.

Speaker 3 (28:55):
This year, certainly, I know I'll be helping out with
Roger Rawis and KBVO and Kex Sam, plus I believe
me Keith Mollen got something scheduled later on the season.
I'm sure I'll be coming to a high school football
stadium near you, most likely somewhere at the field, because
that seems to be better.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
That's kind of your home base a little bit.

Speaker 3 (29:16):
I love the field, great press box food. They treat
us very nastly over there, a good vantage point. I
love the stadium very much, and it's you know, it's
only about fifteen minutes away from here.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
So but we'll see. It's gonna be a very busy season.

Speaker 3 (29:30):
I you know, I was watching little YouTube last night
and pulled up the Texas Clemson game and wasking, like, man,
I feel like I was just at DKR leaving that
stadium in the second quarter because I had the flu.

Speaker 2 (29:42):
I didn't know I had the flu. Felt terrible forgot
about that.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Texas went up thirty one, I think to seven or
thirty one ten. At thirty one ten and I thought, Okay,
this game's over.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
I'm gonna go home.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
I gotta you know, rest came home when straight to bed,
woke up and.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
It was a seventh. It was thirty one twenty four.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
Yeah, that point game, and then Jayden Blue happened and yeah,
and that put it away. But I was thinking, like, man,
it felt like this offseason flew by, and I'm sure
there's some Texas fans going now, are you kidding me?
I've been counting down the days, counting down the days,
and hey, we are too, only ten away, and as
you mentioned, we're going to get away from all the
preseason watch lists and players to watch and all the

(30:21):
storylines and just talkball.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Yeah yeah, we're actually going to do that. So uh so.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
There's there's plenty to get to on that all right,
before we get to the break. And then to Michael
Chaffack did want to hop back to baseball for a moment.
So the Astros lose in ten innings, scintillating ball game,
it really was.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
It was one nothing couple. Go house and elading can
be when when you have.

Speaker 1 (30:44):
The type of pitching matchup that was on display at
Camerica Park last night between the Tigers and the Astros. Uh,
then you kind of you kind of get a feeling
for what Pennant Race baseball could be about. Hunter Brown
of the Astros is pitch. Well, we know what Trek

(31:04):
Skubal can do, know how good he is, and for
it to be scoreless going into the tenth.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
Is pretty cool.

Speaker 1 (31:14):
However, if you're an Astros fan, it didn't end cool
because the Tigers won one nothing.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
They scored in the bottom of the tenth.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
And the Astros bats, or at least the run production
has gone silent because now they've lost not only three
in a row, they've been shut out three consecutive games.
They got beat by the Orioles on Sunday twelve to nothing,
they got beat by the Tigers ten to nothing on Monday,

(31:41):
and then one nothing last time, and they were also
shut out on Friday night by Baltimore. So they've been
shut out four times in a five game span for
the first time since they were shut out four times
by the Dodgers back in nineteen sixty six at Dodgers Stadium.
It's twenty eight consecutive scoreless innings, the team's longest streak
since a thirty one inning scoreless streak in nineteen ninety one.

(32:04):
So it's been you know, it's been that long for them,
and it's tough. And on Friday when we visited with
Gen Watson, we'll talk more about this about the Astros, however,
and here's the bright side of it for Astros fans,
and there is a bright side. Nobody's making up any

(32:25):
ground on them. The Astross, I said, have lost three
in a row and they dropped six of their last ten.
But the Mariners have lost four in a row and
they've dropped six of their last ten. They got beat
by the Phillies again last night. So there's still a
game and a half back now. Again, the good side
of that for Mariners fans says, hey, we've been in
the slump and we haven't lost any ground, hadn't gained
any ground. Either could have been in first place had

(32:46):
they won, say three of the last four or two
of the last three.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
That hadn't happened. Same thing with the Rangers.

Speaker 1 (32:52):
The Rangers are seven and a half back, and they're
six back in the wildcard race. The problem is they've
dropped eight of their last ten, and they dropped the
first two games to the Royals. They cannot get Viti
Pasquentino out and Mike Kistremsky too, who was a good
pickup for the Royals in the deal with the Giants.
So if the Rangers could just kind of get it

(33:13):
together a little bit, they could make a push. And
they're three below five hundred right now, but they're still
on the periphery of both races.

Speaker 2 (33:21):
If they could just get their act together.

Speaker 3 (33:22):
This team is dead, Craig, I think it's over with
the Diamondback Series may have broken them, if not before that.
The offense, just the bats cannot be productive. And I
mean even during their push to kind of when they
got back above five hundred and held for two days
a share of the final wildcard spot.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
I mean, look at the batting order.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
It's like, man, the highest batting average Corey Segers like
two sixty.

Speaker 2 (33:47):
Yeah, a lot of.

Speaker 3 (33:48):
Guys batting around the two hundred that the Mendoza mark,
and some of those guys were batting almost close to
three hundred two years ago when the Rangers won the
World Series. So at some point you knew the pitch
in the bullpen wasn't going to be able to carry
the Rangers all the way. And unfortunately, just the hitting
has not progressed at all, whether it's Simeon or John

(34:10):
Peterson even why at Langford, just all around the bats
have just been frankly terrible, and especially during this last
these last ten games, when you thought, okay, if you're
going to make a push, now is the time. And yeah,
the door has been open for him, but the Rangers
have not tried to walk through it.

Speaker 2 (34:27):
Yeah. So as a result, they're still.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Six games back in the wildcar race, seven and a
half back in the Astra of the Astros even with
Houston slump. But Seattle is hanging right there, even though
they could have jumped back in the first place, did
not because they have been in the slump. Tigers lead
the Central Blue Jays lead the East in the National League.
The Phillies are playing better of late. They're still up

(34:52):
five and a half in the Mets. The Mets dropped
fourteen out of fifteen, but they've turned it around like
one three in a row, so there's still within shouting distance.
Five and a half back in their in the wildcard picture.
Right now, if the season ended today.

Speaker 2 (35:03):
Give credit to the Cubs.

Speaker 1 (35:04):
Swept the doubleheader from the here to four red hot
Milwaukee Brewers yesterday. They've got one more out of that
four game series. If they could win that instead of
just splitting it, then they then they've really made a
dent in what was a nine game deficit in the division.
They'd be within six and really strengthen their wildcard hopes.
In the West, the Dodgers and Padres both are separated

(35:24):
still just by two games. Both won last night and
there's still separated. Dodgers up by two in the West.
All right, up next back to log horn football, and
we'll hear from Loghorn's fifth year safety Michael Taff when
we continue on thirteen hundred The Zone. The guy who
fits the genre of long horn football as Michael Taff,
the long Orne fifth year senior safety, and he had

(35:46):
a chance to sit down and have some linked conversations
with the media yesterday.

Speaker 8 (35:52):
Glass the question I an earlier. He's got that love
success in the road and has to be at twenty.

Speaker 9 (35:57):
First, you enjoyed from net.

Speaker 13 (36:00):
You can communicate on defense. That's pretty good because they're
they're trying to get quiet for their offense, so you
can communicate. I like that, but I don't know. I
like being in dk R. That's more fun when your
fans are getting rowdy. But going on the road, it's awesome.
You only have each other. So your eighty ninety guys

(36:21):
that make the travel squad is the only guys you
got and stay together and you attack.

Speaker 7 (36:26):
Us one Michael Applis's program, I big picture, go from
five and seven your freshman year too, you know, continuing
for a title, going into a season as the preseason
Number one.

Speaker 6 (36:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (36:40):
Coaching, I think one leadership watching the guys that were
here first. I think Roshawn Johnson, Sam Mellinger, Bijon.

Speaker 6 (36:51):
J Ford, de Marvion Barrets, Rode a bunch of those guys.

Speaker 13 (36:56):
Leadership watching those guys and trying to emulate what they did,
but also coaching, like it's a blessing to have the
same coaches for five years straight on any type of
college team.

Speaker 6 (37:07):
That doesn't happen a lot.

Speaker 13 (37:08):
So to have coach p k as your defensive coordinator
all five years, that helps the defense a lot. To
have coach Sark and coach Milly as your coach flood
as your offensive guys coach Banks the whole five years.

Speaker 6 (37:21):
That helps a lot.

Speaker 12 (37:22):
So if you're one of three All of American field,
the A B three Steed from team what was the
say about having three defensive players had one team?

Speaker 6 (37:32):
Yeah, I think it's cool that we finally can get.

Speaker 13 (37:34):
Some respect, that people understand what, you know, how our
work from last year represents now. But obviously it doesn't
matter until the tape comes on. I think it's cool
that it's defensive guys, because obviously we know who's getting
all the hype right.

Speaker 6 (37:55):
Now on the Texas onwards.

Speaker 13 (37:56):
So it's cool that's defensive guys, but that doesn't matter
until we go put it on tape. And Michael haf
reminds me of that every day, so he likes to
pick on me more than ours.

Speaker 9 (38:07):
Y arch Manx, a personal photographer, heard those stories.

Speaker 17 (38:13):
Yeah, I saw.

Speaker 9 (38:15):
How's he handling this?

Speaker 14 (38:17):
I mean it's like it's like Michael Jackson watts into
places kind of you know, you're all American too, but
how's he handling this?

Speaker 5 (38:23):
Is brown?

Speaker 6 (38:25):
Is he an all American? I just wanted to clear
that one. It's I mean, it's really cool to have
somebody so grounded.

Speaker 13 (38:40):
Have all this attention. I mean, I would hate for
it if it was the other way where he really
liked the attention, but he doesn't really like it. We
had an opportunity that I'm gonna keep closed, uh, to
go be in some media thing that was gonna be
really really cool. I was kind of excited about it selfishly,
but he was like, I want to stay out the
media right now.

Speaker 6 (39:00):
So we turned it down. But that's just who he is.
He just cares about ball and that's really it.

Speaker 9 (39:06):
How's he doing against this defense.

Speaker 13 (39:09):
He's got really good days and he's got days where
we win. I would say today he had a really
good day.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Uh.

Speaker 6 (39:16):
I looked over one of the guys. I was like, dang,
we're getting our butt wolves right now. So he finds
his guys.

Speaker 13 (39:23):
He loves the vertical threat, but he also understands that
if you throw it to a running back in space,
he's gonna get.

Speaker 6 (39:30):
Ten yards once he breaks the tackle. So he's super matures.

Speaker 9 (39:36):
The most.

Speaker 13 (39:39):
I think.

Speaker 9 (39:42):
Follow up just a quick follow.

Speaker 13 (39:45):
So yeah, I think Arch where he's matured the most
from freshman year is Yeah. I would say I think
obviously he's such a competitor and it's cool to see
Sam Alinger and then Arch because both of those guys
are not going to take a sack. Both of those
guys are really don't want to throw the check down,

(40:08):
but they understand that that's the best option sometimes when
they're playing you know, eight deep. So it's cool to
see that transition. But he's just matured in many ways,
uses his legs, takes the checkdown when it's one high,
takes the outside guy, so he knows what.

Speaker 14 (40:25):
To do right now in a moment when you looked
up and you thought he had at This is why
I came back.

Speaker 13 (40:31):
Yeah, I mean every single day when when I wake up,
I'm like, man, this is awesome.

Speaker 6 (40:37):
I'm truly living my dream. And everything that I do.

Speaker 13 (40:43):
Every single day is because I'm so blessed, and like
I see those tiktoks where it's like your your five
year old self would be looking up right now and
be happy that you are where you are today. But
my five year old self, this is exactly where I
wanted to be.

Speaker 6 (40:59):
So I'm really happen.

Speaker 9 (41:00):
Can this defense be better than the next year?

Speaker 2 (41:03):
Sure? Can?

Speaker 12 (41:03):
Really?

Speaker 2 (41:04):
Sure?

Speaker 1 (41:04):
It can?

Speaker 13 (41:06):
I mean John Ay and mccuba, Baron ac vern Am
I missing anybody.

Speaker 6 (41:15):
That's five.

Speaker 13 (41:16):
All those guys were really good, so it's hard to
replace those guys. But when you got Anthony Hill a
year older, Leongolithal a year older, Colin Simmons a year
older myself, Jilani Manny Gilbo, Kobe Black, and then you
add guys, I think, yeah, you can, you can be

(41:37):
better for sure.

Speaker 10 (41:38):
There's a ton thlers On Stephens with that five stronger
name coming to school, but also quite a few contributes
that had that free star ven while we're as someone
who came in as a walk on with the lace
and get with young Ti.

Speaker 8 (41:47):
All those guys make a place in their team right now.

Speaker 13 (41:50):
Yeah, it's super cool. I think they just come with
a sense of pride and sense of gratitude because they
know that everything that they had to do is is.

Speaker 6 (41:59):
They had to work for it. Nothing was handed to them.

Speaker 13 (42:02):
So they got on the field by their effort, their
physicality and their knowledge of assignment and by the end
of it making plays. So that's how they got on
the field, and that, in my opinion, that's the best
way to get on the field.

Speaker 8 (42:14):
I hope we've heard a lot about Zayer recently.

Speaker 6 (42:17):
What's feels to me. Yeah, he's been he's been doing
really really well.

Speaker 2 (42:20):
What makes him stuffil doesn't happen?

Speaker 13 (42:23):
Well, I mean he's like a ten to five ten
six guy in one hundred and to start coming out
of high school, So that helps one. But two, he's
grown his game mentally so much from freshman and sophomore year.
So when you put the athletic ability with the mental side,

(42:43):
it clicks and he's scary.

Speaker 9 (42:45):
He by your former teammate and West like King Cleb Mac.

Speaker 5 (42:48):
Yeah, so preseason American, did you guys text three things?

Speaker 9 (42:51):
Just start having two Austin guys on that list.

Speaker 13 (42:54):
You know, I don't like the preseason All American is
really cool to me, and a lot of people have
sent me it, but like like I think Huff huff
messes with me a lot, but I think it's really true,
like that there's so many preseason All Americans that are
not All Americans. And since I've been, you know, named
an All American at the end of the season, like

(43:16):
I'm almost like, I don't want you to name me
All American because I want to go proven.

Speaker 6 (43:19):
I want to go earn it. So to answer your question, no,
we haven't talked about it.

Speaker 13 (43:23):
But once hopefully we get on that list together at
the end of the season, we'll share about it.

Speaker 8 (43:31):
I know, going into last year, I'm sure you all
heard about playing an SEC schedule and what that would
be like. Having done that, getting ready to go do
it again.

Speaker 13 (43:39):
Is that real?

Speaker 8 (43:40):
Like the difficulty that that process is that real?

Speaker 13 (43:43):
Yeah, it's tough. Every single day. Every single game is
a challenge. Every single game is really physical, and that's
what you sign up for. That's what you know you're
gonna do. So you know, Tuesday type of practices, you're
going hard because you're preparing for Saturday games. You're communicating
a lot because it gets.

Speaker 6 (44:02):
Really, really loud.

Speaker 13 (44:03):
So I already have no voice right now because I'm
yelling in practice. But that's why you play college football.
You play in arenas like this.

Speaker 9 (44:13):
How's the communication in the secondary?

Speaker 11 (44:17):
We talked to you about that at SEC media Days,
But now that you've got all these guys who are
seemingly interchangeable.

Speaker 9 (44:23):
How is it?

Speaker 6 (44:23):
Yeah, if you can't tell, it's pretty good. Right now,
My voice is totally beat right now.

Speaker 13 (44:29):
Everybody's talking really loud, everybody's communicating, and the best thing
that's happening right now is there's no arguments on the field.
So like I'm wrong at times, and whenever i'm wrong,
if I'm yelling the loudest or I see it first,
we just play that.

Speaker 2 (44:44):
It might be wrong.

Speaker 6 (44:44):
But if we're all right, we're all wrong, we're all right,
you know. So Aunt might call it, I might call it.

Speaker 13 (44:52):
Man he might see it, Johnny d Will Graceon might
see it. Ordell might see it. Those type of guys.
So Bark might even see something on the on the edge.
So whatever somebody says first.

Speaker 6 (45:06):
We're just gonna play it.

Speaker 2 (45:07):
And that's what I like.

Speaker 9 (45:08):
I don't want to go back to sec media days
to that tie that true? Or do you all plan
or you plan to way throughout.

Speaker 14 (45:13):
The season, do you have plans for your teammates to
have as a week life to still continue.

Speaker 9 (45:18):
To bring awareness to it.

Speaker 13 (45:19):
Yeah, I plan on giving those ties to the families
that were impacted by the floods. So you know, there's
been a couple of people that reached out, So I
plan on thanks to the people that made it.

Speaker 6 (45:32):
I don't want to box their name. I keep forgetting it.

Speaker 13 (45:34):
Company is Anderson Parker, not Parker, And I said it
Parker Company's Anderson Parker. So very thankful for them to
make me more, but gonna give them to those families
can tell them.

Speaker 8 (45:45):
When we were in Atlanta, you told the story of
Kobe Black telling me young guys, Hey, Michael Taffs, do.

Speaker 3 (45:50):
It this way to do it.

Speaker 10 (45:51):
I know you've been a while so hard recall, but
was there ever a moment where atveter kind of had
that impact you.

Speaker 9 (45:57):
He would say, I know you may understand it, but
you just do it this way.

Speaker 2 (46:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (46:01):
Roshawan on the on the offensive side, just mentally from
the leadership standpoint, but uh, Anthony Cook, Anthony Cook and
Demarrio on Overshan and Jall and forward with the guys.

Speaker 6 (46:12):
For me, that was like, dude, if we play like this,
we'll be unstoppable. So I looked up to those guys
a lot.

Speaker 12 (46:17):
As he talked at today or the crew about what
the NFL tread he can't play.

Speaker 6 (46:22):
Yeah, I FaceTime from both of them.

Speaker 8 (46:24):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (46:25):
Stayed two on Sunday, so two days ago, and one
Andrew was pretty happy because he got a pick six,
but two John Ay was like he's bowling and he
had like six or seven tackles in two games. So
if you're playing corner, I think he's got some nickel
reps too. That's pretty good. So he's flashing. But yeah,

(46:46):
they talk about the Faulcan schedule and how how tough
it is.

Speaker 8 (46:50):
What you want from Terry crew.

Speaker 6 (46:53):
Dude, he's hilarious.

Speaker 13 (46:54):
Well what I learned is and like this is kind
of cliche, but when to flip the switch on and
off because he's like messing around with us. He's congratulating,
calling freshman Player of the year, graduating me on my story, Marcel.

Speaker 2 (47:09):
On what he did.

Speaker 13 (47:12):
And then the director's like, all right, we gotta go.
He's like all right and just goes and it's like,
what the heck, Like, I can't.

Speaker 6 (47:20):
Do this right now. I'm I'm dying laughing in the back.

Speaker 13 (47:23):
So I learned like how to switch it, like when
you have all the fame, He's still just such a
normal guy and it was super cool.

Speaker 6 (47:30):
He was so cool. I was super blessed to be there.

Speaker 9 (47:34):
How was how your west Lake teammates furk and doing.

Speaker 13 (47:38):
They're doing great. They're doing really good. Bossick's doing really
really good. And I've been preaching on Bostick, so I'm
glad he's making me sound like.

Speaker 6 (47:46):
A truthful man instead of a liar. So he's he's
doing really good.

Speaker 9 (47:52):
And then Burke.

Speaker 13 (47:53):
Everybody knows how good Burke is, but he stepped up
his game and another level.

Speaker 8 (47:58):
Tygl we've been doing about are y'all?

Speaker 11 (48:01):
In secondary will kind of communicate the task catchers on
both sides of the ball and how it works.

Speaker 3 (48:06):
Can you just tell us how to effects girls.

Speaker 8 (48:08):
Game and the x fel's player.

Speaker 6 (48:09):
Yeah, say that one more time. Sorry, I was seeing
if this was open, I was gonna steal it. I
need some water here.

Speaker 9 (48:14):
You're good, how y'all?

Speaker 7 (48:16):
Secondary will just communicate with the task catchers and how
that affects all of those.

Speaker 8 (48:20):
Has the ball and improving their day.

Speaker 2 (48:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (48:23):
Well, it helps us when we go and DeAndre Moore,
Parker Livingston, all those guys and it Mosley when they're
really good, because there's days where we we think we're
really good and then we get absolutely burnt.

Speaker 6 (48:37):
So it helps like like that they're really good.

Speaker 13 (48:41):
But they tell us, hey, on this route is what
I saw is what I'm gonna do, And then we
tell them by sarsa, hey on this route, I knew
you're gonna break here.

Speaker 6 (48:50):
Yadayada, YadA. So it's been really cool.

Speaker 2 (48:53):
Is the hype about Parker living?

Speaker 18 (48:56):
So?

Speaker 6 (48:56):
Is is that the truth? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (48:59):
I'm like.

Speaker 13 (49:03):
Jordan Shipley was a pretty good BA Bowl player here,
So to compare them to Jordan Shipley, I don't know
there was a stereotype there. I don't know if they
play the same, but it was like Jordan Jackson Shipley, nobody, nobody, Oh,
Parker Lewison, they look alike. I don't know if that's
really true, but the hype is real about him. So

(49:23):
I don't know how much he plays like like Jordan,
but he does. He's a vertical threat, great routes and
sure catcher.

Speaker 14 (49:31):
How easy is a ticket complacent or to try not
to live in the moment life. You got a good day,
but you don't want to stay there. How you kind
of lose the ddact you talking to yourself or to
your team.

Speaker 13 (49:40):
That's happened, right, Yeah, it is easy to fall into
that trap because when you think you're playing good, then
it's really easy to get complacent and think that you
can do it over and over again. Blake I was
saying earlier, like this offense humbles us so much that
you think you have a good day, boom, you have
a bad day, and they just remind you.

Speaker 6 (49:59):
So you always gotta keep working.

Speaker 9 (50:01):
He wan fresh for Michael.

Speaker 8 (50:03):
Did Derek look like the old freshman?

Speaker 13 (50:06):
Yeah, he's looking really good right now. Yeah, he's he's
getting the coach's trust for sure.

Speaker 2 (50:11):
Just crucis one freshman for the last one.

Speaker 8 (50:14):
The suppression the.

Speaker 6 (50:15):
Most johnsby a little Well, you don't know what he's
going through.

Speaker 2 (50:25):
Freshman.

Speaker 13 (50:31):
I think Khalik Lockett had a really good scrimmage on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (50:35):
Always entertaining UH.

Speaker 1 (50:37):
And he's he has become over time, UH one of
my favorite Longhorns because of UH A local product. Obviously
he performed for Todd Dodge at West Lake UH and
then what he's done at the University of Texas in
this five years going into his fifth and final season.
Football players a lot of fun as well. All Right,

(50:58):
We've got more coming up. Our going to get to
this college football player ranking thing coming up when we
continue on thirteen under the Zone. This time of year
is always interesting in terms of the preseason rankings and
the AP Top twenty five College pole is out.

Speaker 2 (51:15):
It came out last week.

Speaker 1 (51:16):
The week prior to that was the coaches POWL Texas
number one in both poles, Ohio State number two and
the coaches number three in the AP. So there'll be
a lot of talk about all that sort of stuff.
Preseason All American teams have come out. The AP Preseason
All America team came out this week and three long
ones on the first team, all on the defense, Colin Simmons,

(51:39):
Michael Taff, Anthony Hill. It was about a week and
a half ago maybe or something or a week or
so ago that the Athletic had its what it called
its most impactful college football players for the coming season.

Speaker 2 (51:54):
We went down that list.

Speaker 1 (51:55):
ESPN has jumped into the mix with their own ranking
of the top one hundred college players ahead of the
twenty twenty five season. Now this is different from say
the NFL one where the players vote on this.

Speaker 2 (52:06):
This is their their.

Speaker 1 (52:08):
Media panel that has come up with us. So I'm
gonna give you some of them now, and i'm gonna
give you the rest of them in the four o'clock hour.
Starting at number one hundred and moving up just to
first hand. Eric Singleton, junior of Auburn, the sophomore receiver,
is number one hundred, number ninety nine is Bryant Westco junior,
the Clemson sophomore wide receiver. Number ninety eight, Logan Jones

(52:28):
the Iowa senior center. Diego Pavia, the Vanderbilt quarterback, the
one who beat Alabama, was very.

Speaker 2 (52:36):
Competitive against Texas.

Speaker 1 (52:38):
Sued the NCAA to get an extra year of eligibility
and was so granted, And so now Pavia back for
one more year, and he's number ninety seven. Number ninety six.
Blake Miller, Clemson senior offensive tackle. Leveon Moss, Texas A
and M senior running back is number ninety five. He
says he's completely recovered from the knee injury that knocked

(53:01):
him out of the last four games of the twenty
twenty four season as well, so we'll see. And then
of course Ruben Owens is coming back from the foot
injury as well. They could have one of the better
running games in all of college football, certainly in the SEC.
Isaiah Wacobia, the defensive back from SMUs number ninety four.
Ninety three is Aaron Anderson, junior wide receiver of LSU.

(53:22):
Jacob Rodriguez, the Texas Tech senior linebacker. It seems like
he's been there forever he's number ninety two. Number ninety
one is Amad Hardy, running back Missouri. Does it sound familiar. Yeah,
he was carrying the football for ul Monroe last year
and he rushed for thirteen hundred and fifty one yards
and thirteen touchdowns. He had some impressive carries even against

(53:44):
Texas last year. Number ninety is Read Murdoch, linebacker, a
senior from Buffalo.

Speaker 2 (53:51):
Just a few more for you.

Speaker 1 (53:52):
Rock Obec, the Iorish State junior quarterback, is number eighty nine.
Keelan Rutledge, Georgia Tech senior offensive lineman, number eighty eight.
Parker Brailsford the Alabama junior center preseason All Americans, number
eighty seven. Xavier Alford, the defensive back for Arizona State,
is number eighty six, of course omer long one. ZAKEI Wheatley,

(54:14):
Penn State senior safety is number eighty five. Eric O'Neil
Rutgers senior defensive end is number eighty four. Number eighty
three is Jonah Coleman, Washington senior running back. Number eighty two,
DeAngelo Pons Indiana junior corner, and number eighty one is
Derek Moore, senior defensive in for Michigan and Number eighty
is kJ Bolden, the Georgia sophomore safety. So that's the

(54:36):
bottom twenty if you will, of the top one hundred players.
All right, we'll be back to wrap up today's second
hour of the program on thirteen hundred. The listed players
eighty through one hundred. Continuing to move up the list.
Number seventy nine is Kansas State junior quarterback Avery Johnson,

(54:56):
Elijah Surratt Indiana wide receivers number seventy eight, eight Aiden Fisher,
Indiana linebackers number seventy seven, Anthony Napp Notre Dame sophomore
offensive lineman seventy six, Max Claire Ohio State junior tight
end seventy five. Olivia vega Ione from Penn State the
offensive lineman number seventy four. Xavier Scott, Illinois senior safety

(55:20):
is seventy three, Zane Durant, Penn State senior defensive tackle
seventy two. Cayden Green, Missouri's guard, is number seventy one.
Kevin Jennings, the quarterback from SMU, is number seventy. Trey
Wisner is number sixty nine. He's the only returning one
thousand yard rusher in the SEC this season, and Mark

(55:43):
Slaybaugh wrote that he's sacrificing his favorite meal, the ten
count McNuggets and the mcdouble from McDonald's.

Speaker 2 (55:48):
That sounds like your order.

Speaker 1 (55:50):
Camp pretty close, yeah, because you used to like the
McNuggets and now you've liked the McDougall double, So it
kind of combines your earlier favorite in your current favorite.
Off of that, he had to get better shape off
of that, and of course we're looking forward to C. J.
Baxter's return and see what he could do. Number sixty
eight is Haines King, the former long use state champion

(56:10):
quarterback and former Texas Hackey quarterback going into his senior
year at Georgia Tech. Carnell Tate, wide receiver from Ohio
State is number sixty seven. Armagrita Adams, the guard from
Texas A and M is sixty six. Eli Stowers the
Vanderbilt senior tight end, former Dent and Geyer quarterback and
was at Texas A and M in twenty twenty one,

(56:33):
and then then he ended up going to New Mexico
State in twenty twenty three. He was there with Diego
Pavia and he transferred in and these I think the
guy's going to be playing on Sundays. I think he's
a really good tight end. Michael taff from whom we
just heard a little while ago. His number sixty four

(56:54):
sixty three is Cage Casey, Boise State junior offensive tackle.
It's like tough footy with Cage Casey to be Casey Caseum,
but close sunny styles. The Ohio State senior linebacker who
March Banning mentioned yesterday in his media session.

Speaker 2 (57:13):
We'll hear from March next hour.

Speaker 1 (57:15):
He's number sixty two, sixty one Manny Mohammad Malik Muhammad.
The long Wrnes junior corner number sixty Jason Henderson, the
Old Dominion senior linebacker. Fifty nine is Whip Weeks LSU
junior linebacker Tory in York. Texas A and M's junior
linebacker is number fifty eight. Fifty seven Texas Tech senior

(57:37):
defensive lineman David Bailey. Christin Miller, out of the top
one hundred rated players in college football, is number fifty six.
The Georgia junior defensive lineman Desmond Reid. Pittsburgh senior running
back number fifty five. LT Overton, Alabama senior defensive lineman
fifty four Josh Hoover, the TCU junior quarterback, number fifty three.
Sawyer Robertson, the Baylor senior quarterback is number fifty two,

(58:00):
which is interesting because those two were both ranked in
the Athletic as impactful guys this year for college football,
and they were ranked right beside one another as they
are in this survey. Number fifty one is Sountering Perkins,
the Ole Miss junior linebacker. Number fifty is Blake Horvath

(58:23):
the Navy senior quarterbacks. That is the bottom fifty. Next hour,
we'll get to the top fifty. Now here's here's something
else I wanted to get to.

Speaker 2 (58:34):
Again.

Speaker 1 (58:34):
As I point out, this is the time of year
where we see all kinds of preseason rankings and in
this case compilations. The Athletic and their longtime media columnist
Richard Deatch, who had also done USA Today. He covers
media an awful lot and extensively compiled what he rates

(58:57):
as the most impactful sports TV play by play voices
of the twenty first century. So see if you agree
with some of these and the first century. Yeah, since
two thousand, yeah, since two thousand, since the year two thousand.

Speaker 2 (59:17):
So so here Johnny Moist won't be on this list.

Speaker 1 (59:21):
Johnny Most will not be on the list. I don't
think so. I don't think Chick hern makes the list
as well. Kirk Galdi won't make the list, all right.

Speaker 2 (59:30):
So here they are.

Speaker 1 (59:35):
These are his choices, listed in alphabetical order. It's not
a ranking, it's just the most impactful TV play by
play voices.

Speaker 2 (59:42):
So see what you think of these one of these.
Kenny Albert, Yeah, who's been going since he said?

Speaker 1 (59:48):
You might not immediately think of Albert giving some of
the other names on this list, but his versatility at
the national level is astounding. He estimates he's called close
to fifteen hundred nationally televised games during his career. Alex
Avatchkinsadner in a ninety fifth career in he O Gold
a Jose Bautista back flip against the Rangers, and of course,

(01:00:13):
back in June, it was the third time he served
as the league broadcaster for as Stanley Cup Final. Does
Fox NFL football and baseball. I haven't heard him do basketball,
but I heard a new football, baseball and hockey.

Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
I'm trying to think of it. When have we heard
Kenny Albert do basketball?

Speaker 3 (01:00:27):
Wasn't he the voice on what's the other New York
not MSG network, the one YES network. Wasn't he on
YES Network for a little bit doing little nets basketball?

Speaker 1 (01:00:39):
That's that's Iron Eagle, isn't it? But before right, maybe
he was. I didn't hear it, but maybe he was.
But those were some of the ones who me okay,
his dad Marv from twenty to twenty to twenty twenty two.
Of course, he did his move from NBC to TNT
in two thousand and two solidify the network's NBA coverage.

(01:01:01):
They talked about giving him Marquee voice and fl it
was a great boxing announcer as well.

Speaker 2 (01:01:06):
Marvel was, but known primarily for NBA. He actually so
it was MSG.

Speaker 3 (01:01:11):
He would fill in for Mike Breen when Mike Breen
was calling on the sp I know it was one
of the New York station.

Speaker 8 (01:01:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:01:16):
Yeah, And I didn't get a chance to hear Kenny
do that, but I met him when I was up
for the Sportscaster of the Year banquet last year.

Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
And great guy, great guy, and get really giving of
his time.

Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
A lot of us sat in on that a panel
and a workshop for young upcoming broadcasters, and he would
he was very very generous with his time and instruction
as well.

Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Joe Buck obviously with what he's done now, Joe.

Speaker 1 (01:01:46):
Probably didn't get real high marchs when he was doing golf.
Remember when Fox had the US Open, it was I
liked him. There were a lot of of course, you know,
Joe Buck is a polarizing guy. People who like him
or they don't like him. Uh, he's really a really
nice guy. He was the one who actually presented me
my award when they went up there and we laughed
and chatted for a little bit. And uh, I know

(01:02:08):
he's a real close friend of Brad sham My, you know,
good friend and former boss who's the voice of the Cowboys. Uh,
he's very versatile whatever else you want to say about
he's very very versatile on that.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Mike Breen, who I think is the greatest NBA broadcaster
of all time. Yeah, I just think he is.

Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
He's he just called his twentieth straight NBA Finals. Lisa Byington,
she was, you know, a you know, a trailblazer, so
to speak. First female play by play voice for a
football game on Big ten Network. Does the Milwaukee Bucks regularly,
also the Chicago Sky and works NCAA tournament for CBS. Uh,

(01:02:45):
Andre's contour. But the greatest soccer broadcaster of all time,
He's he's in there. Ian Dark, tremendous soccer broadcaster over
the year is on ESPN. Oh just a diabolical goal,
you know things like that. He's just just tremendous. Iron

(01:03:06):
Eagle who who I think?

Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:03:10):
And Richard Detchaz he's the best NBA broadcaster working today.
And you'll hear him on Amazon Prime Video when they
start NBA coverage.

Speaker 2 (01:03:17):
So that's good to know.

Speaker 1 (01:03:18):
There does west Wood One Final four NFL. Uh, I
haven't hurt him do baseball, but on those other sports
he's as good as it gets and a really good guy.
Uh as well. Mike Emrick greatest hockey broadcaster of all time.
I think probably Doc Emrick just just great. Dick Enbert

(01:03:38):
one of the greatest.

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
Football, basketball and baseball.

Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
He did the Big Three and UH an Olympic coverage
and tennis for years at Wimbledon. Chris Fawler, They've got Fowler.
I think, Uh, Chris Fowler has had a great career.
I think his best work really was in the studio
and on tennis as opposed to as opposed to football
play by play. Not the he's bad on that, it's
just that he's the college game day thing. He really

(01:04:04):
launched there. Kevin Harlan Uh, He's He's established himself not
only as being an outstanding broadcaster in football and basketball,
but his unique style the Lebron Jays with no regard
for human life or the play by play call, a
fan running on the field, that kind of stuff is fun.

(01:04:24):
Gus Johnson, His his level of excitement and stuff is unmatched.

Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
Mike Joy.

Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
What a great NASCAR broadcaster Mike Joy was since the
year two thousand. Jim Lampley, the voice of NBC's boxing coverage.
Vern Lundquist is mentioned for everything he's done, you know,
in in golf, the kick six and football, all of
that sort of stuff. And another great man, Al Michaels.

(01:04:51):
Makes perfect sense with everything you know in addition to
do you believe in miracles and everything else. Sean McDonough
since two thousand, John Miller, Beth Muwens, a pioneer, Brent Musberger,
Jim Nantz, Brad Nessler, Dan Schulman, Joe Tessa Tour, Mike Tarico,
all of those. That's the list there from Richard Deach.
All right, we have one more hour of the program

(01:05:13):
to go. Craig Way joined by the producer Cameron Parker.
Glad to have you with us here on the program
of the Yacht Rock Wednesday. Coming up in a few minutes,
we'll hear from Arch Manning, the long Orange quarterback, and
his thoughts. Also coming up momentarily, I'm going to hear
some sound from Brian Schannheimer, the Cowboys head coach, because
now that we're in the run up to the regular season,

(01:05:35):
we've been running a lot of shoddy sound from training
camp and now they're back in the Metroplex. Had an
open practice yesterday at the Star in Frisco, and so
we'll hear from Brian Schoenenheimer on that.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
I did want to run down some more of these
names here.

Speaker 1 (01:05:50):
These are the top one hundred college football player according
to the ESPN going into this season. We gave you
the players from one hundred down to number fifty. Now
moving forward and further up the lift number forty nine.
Loved the name, always have loved the name since he's
been there. Dante Corleon, the Cincinnati defensive lineman. Yes, the

(01:06:14):
godfather is they know him Jaden virgin Morgan edge rusher
Boise State is number forty eight. Forty seven is Caleb Banks,
the defensive lineman from Florida. Antonio Williams, the Clemson junior
wide receiver forty six. Isaac Brown, Louisville sophomore running back,
is number forty five. Dylan Theeneman, the safety from Morgan

(01:06:34):
number forty four, Harold Perkins the LSU junior linebackers forty three,
Coy Perrick, the defensive back from Minnesota's forty two. Christian
Gray Notre Dame junior defensive back forty one. Kyle Lewis
is Pitts junior linebacker. He's number forty. Number thirty nine.
Avion Terrell is the junior corner from Clemson.

Speaker 2 (01:06:54):
CJ.

Speaker 1 (01:06:54):
Allen, junior linebacker from Georgia thirty eight. Jake Slaughter, the
Florida center, preseason All American number thirty seven. Trey White
is number thirty six. He's the edge rusher sophomore from
San Diego State. Michael Kamara, defensive end from Indiana's number
thirty five. K Tron Allen, Penn State's senior running back,

(01:07:15):
number thirty four. Reuben Bain junior Miami defensive lineman thirty three,
Chandler Rivers, number thirty two, the Duke senior defensive back.
Number thirty one is Jermal McCoy, the junior dB from Tennessee.
And number thirty is McKay Hughes, the Oregon junior running backuard.
So that's down. The number thirty coming up. We'll continue

(01:07:36):
that countdown to that. But right now I wanted to
shift to pro football and let you hear a little
bit from the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, That
of course is Brian Schottenheimer, as the Cowboys continue their
run up to the start of the regular season.

Speaker 9 (01:07:51):
Calvin Watkin, Dallas Morning News.

Speaker 5 (01:07:54):
What progression have you seen from your team from the
first preseason game to happen over the weekend.

Speaker 16 (01:08:00):
I'd tell you what, you know, I think when I
looked at this game, we went back and we looked
at it. You know, the biggest thing I would say,
just you know, we didn't control the ball. I mean
time of possession was a major problem. We shared that
with them this morning. I mean, forty minutes to twenty
minutes is a big, big difference. So then you have
to dive in even deeper. You know, you look at
the third downs and fourth downs conversions, I think Baltimore

(01:08:21):
converted fifty percent. They were like nine of eighteen. We
only converted two of thirteen fifteen percent. But the hidden
message in that is it's not just that we stink
on third down or fourth down. It's that, you know,
on defense, I think four of their eight or nine
conversions were third and two or less and we had

(01:08:43):
seven of our thirteen I'm remembering correctly, were seven or
more and we only converted one of eight. So what
I mean by that, I mean by that is that
we did a poor job, you know, playing ahead of
the sticks. You know, we need to win first and
second down. I know in the passing game. On defense,
we gave up some easy com deletions and they kind
of got ahead of the sticks on us a little bit,
which put them in favorable third down situations. And then

(01:09:06):
our inability to kind of run the football hurt our
ability to kind of play ahead of the sticks. So
we just, you know, we forced too many third downs
on offense long and that's a big part of it.
That's how you look at a number and it's that lopsided,
and so you knowther couple of things I would say
is the complimentary football wasn't there. It needs to be there,
you know, I mean, I think we you know, we

(01:09:28):
Brandon Aubrey kicked awesome in this game. All the kicks
he converted them, all his directional kicks on the kickoff
were great. I mean, shoot, the very first play of
the game, he pins them back. It's a touch back,
you know, because it lands in the landing zone and
defense goes for and out. They give up a deep
cross and then they get them to punt and we,
you know, take the ball and then we end up
making them punt again because we wanted to get a

(01:09:49):
chance to see crop return. And then we have a penalty,
and then it just when you look at the sudden
change of events, like then you know, we get the safety,
and then you know, I think, you know, we get
the turnover on defense. Defense did a great job creating
two turnovers, and you know, our very first play out,
you know, we throw an interception.

Speaker 2 (01:10:05):
So the sudden change that we talked about.

Speaker 16 (01:10:07):
The operation was good in terms of the mechanics of
how we want to handle it and the communication, but
the execution wasn't really there. So I think the biggest
thing that I would say to answer your question is
the consistency wasn't there. And I talked to the guys
about this morning. I said, at the end of the day,
when one of your main four pillars that you believe
in is physicality, I thought the physical nature that we

(01:10:27):
played with was not good enough. It was inconsistent. Does
that mean that we weren't physical at all. No, it
means that there were some guys that were very physical.
Princeton Fan was very very physical. I thought James Houston
was very physical. But as a football team as a whole,
we weren't physical enough. And that's coaches and players and
all of us together.

Speaker 6 (01:10:46):
You have enough time to kind of fix that.

Speaker 16 (01:10:49):
For Philadelphia, absolutely, yeah. I mean this is going to
be another great week of practice. You know, we got
a couple of fun days of practice and they'll be
padded practices in front of the fans and indoors and
all that stuff. But again, I think very very clearly,
you know, I said to the guys, we don't look
at this at oh hey, look we just this is
just a preseason game.

Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
It doesn't matter.

Speaker 16 (01:11:08):
I've never said that, I would never say that it
does matter. Every time we get a chance to go
out and compete, you compete to win. But at the
end of the day, we are trying things and we
are not showing things, and we are in the evaluation business.
We're trying to evaluate players doing scheme, simple scheme. But
when we go to compete, we want to compete to win. Uh.

Speaker 17 (01:11:30):
Can you give a clarent sale of d llls Cowboys?

Speaker 16 (01:11:33):
Thank you for clarifying, well I was speaking to I
wasn't thank you for saying it.

Speaker 17 (01:11:38):
I'm trying to follow TAD rules.

Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
It's good.

Speaker 17 (01:11:41):
Can you give us update off doctor Mingo? I know
you MRI yesterday. How long was he out?

Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
Was the injury?

Speaker 17 (01:11:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 16 (01:11:49):
Again, I think you know, we really have a few
more tests that we have to run. We're not really
sure yet. I don't think it's going to be terribly serious,
but I think we got to get through a few
more tests just to make sure. But while great catch.
It was so great to see him, you know, Clarence
step up and make that big play down the boundary
on third and long as one of the third downs
that we did convert. But we need to do a
little bit more testing to figure that out.

Speaker 19 (01:12:12):
And I know it's not just a preseason, but also
the starters aren't playing. You know, you don't have Dack
out there, and then some of the front line guys.
But it's still a reflection of what you've done and
how you balance how you prepare the team.

Speaker 17 (01:12:24):
Again, how do you balance that not being physical enough
and not running the balls?

Speaker 19 (01:12:30):
What thing pillers that you wanted to do and you've
talked about doing even though Johnton, William Dack and some
of the guys aren't there.

Speaker 16 (01:12:36):
Yeah, well, I think you pointed out to the guys,
you know, you pointed out to the guys and you say, look,
I mean Cooper BB played some snaps, Tyler Booker played
some snaps.

Speaker 2 (01:12:44):
You know.

Speaker 16 (01:12:45):
We should have run the ball better in that game,
and we didn't, And that falls on all of us.
It falls on me as the play caller, it falls
on the offensive staff. We did some things that were better.
We challenged guys last week to tackle better, and I
thought we tackled really, really well. Called hamstring tackle. We
talk about knocking guys back and creating a cup and
running your feet through three yards of contact. We did

(01:13:06):
that better. My big belief is whether you win you lose.
When you compete, you have to point out so we
do a thing good, better, good better, how and the
process never changes whether you win, whether you lose, the
process doesn't change. And so today I stood up there
and I talked about the things we did well, which
there was a number of those things, talked about the

(01:13:28):
things that we need to do better. There was probably
a few more of those that we needed to get
cleaned up. And then how we're going to do it.
And what we said is we're gonna have two days
of very physical practices and also at the same time,
you know, we're going to do a little bit more
first and second down work because I think really that's
kind of where the game got away from us, you know, Clarence,
when you look at it was, you know, we got

(01:13:49):
soft in the d gap in some of our run fits,
you know, and then offense again, the lack of completions
and running the football effectively put us behind the sticks
real quickly.

Speaker 19 (01:13:59):
You want to do to days of physical practices, ob
still here on the turf, you've been outside, how much
how does that being on the turf.

Speaker 17 (01:14:09):
In fact your plan of being physical And I know
the guys will order.

Speaker 19 (01:14:12):
But you have two major injuries come out when they
came back from camp on turf the last.

Speaker 17 (01:14:16):
Couple of years.

Speaker 16 (01:14:16):
Yeah, again, you're aware of it. It's part of the game. Obviously,
you'd never want to think that way. But we have
work to get done. We know that, We've pointed that out,
our players know that. And again, if we were worried
about injuries, you know, you could worry about that every day.
And so again, let's go have some competitive practice, Let's
fly around a little bit, Let's get better and hopefully
play better against Atlanta.

Speaker 9 (01:14:38):
Prank Todder's with the ESPN.

Speaker 14 (01:14:40):
Now that you guys are back here, has anything change
on my your status, if you will practice or if
would do more than what he did?

Speaker 9 (01:14:45):
Autox aren't.

Speaker 16 (01:14:46):
Yeah, again I don't. I don't expect there will be
many changes. We'll see again. It was uh, it was
good to have all the guys back.

Speaker 9 (01:14:53):
You know.

Speaker 16 (01:14:54):
I think I think what we're excited about tids get
back into the routine. I know, I'm excited to be
back here a little bit more of a routine. I
kind of know where everything is. It's it's comfortable, and
you know, I think the biggest thing is just We've
got a couple of days to figure out this routine.
As we're getting back into it, we'll still be a
little bit in training camp mode. Schedules adjusted a little bit,
you know, the next two days because of the night practices.

(01:15:15):
But as far as Mike is concerned, I don't think
there'll be many changes.

Speaker 11 (01:15:19):
And then you talked about it's an evaluation period in
the seven iron stuff.

Speaker 9 (01:15:24):
If you don't take the driver out on the range,
how do you know if you're going.

Speaker 8 (01:15:27):
To hit the driver?

Speaker 16 (01:15:28):
Well, and of course, well you have to evaluate how
you do in some of your practice rounds. And you
look at the practices we've had against the defense, and
you know, I think we've got all of the off
season program to look at, OTAs you've got all of
the training camp practices to look at. And again, yeah,
it's a philosophy and you can agree or disagree with it.

(01:15:49):
I saw the giants the other night and they were
running all kinds of different things, and that's great. Good
for them. You know, that's what they believe in. Dave's
the hell of a coach, But you know that's their philosophy.
Our philosophy is, let's see these guys can pet Let's
see these guys do simple better and we haven't done
it well enough. And that's okay, And I'll stand up
here and own that I've never said that. Oh yeah,

(01:16:09):
we're in a great spot. But I'm also not concerned.
We're going through the process and we're competing every day,
and we've got a chance to do that a couple
more times before we have to make some really difficult decisions.

Speaker 8 (01:16:20):
Yeah, for sure.

Speaker 12 (01:16:21):
With the athletic give any update on Jayden Blue and
if he'll be able to do anything.

Speaker 16 (01:16:25):
This week, yeahrend trending positively. Again, we'll see how he
does today and tomorrow, but hopeful that he can get
out there and play. But again, I'll get some more
updates to see how they did this morning with some
of the workouts and stuff that they were doing. But
I'm optimistic and hopeful that he plays.

Speaker 13 (01:16:39):
And then having four weeks Califouria in two preacings a games.

Speaker 8 (01:16:44):
Now, when you look at defensive tackle, just what are
your views on what you guys have in your position?

Speaker 2 (01:16:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 16 (01:16:49):
Again, I think you know, the one guy I want
to speak about that that played I thought really really
well in the game was jay You know what I
mean you talk about you know, draft pick us La.
He's fauring out the attack front. You know, he's a
large man that played really really well. Again, we're getting
a good evaluation. I thought, you know, Ernest, Ernest Brown
played really really well in general. You know, I think

(01:17:12):
that's a spot that we're always going to be mindful of.
When you play simple fronts and teams know you're gonna
line up in the simple front, uh, you're going to
have to play much more disciplined in your fits. And
I do think our run fits from the linebackers this
game were better, and so I think that that did
help us hold up a little bit and build the
wall per se against the run. But but overall, I

(01:17:36):
thought a couple of young guys really stepped up in
the defensive tackle room. And of course, you know Osa
and Sally and those guys aren't playing right now.

Speaker 18 (01:17:44):
I think here's for Star Tlder And we spent on
talking to Tyler guy, and I know there's no timeline,
but how would you say he's progressed so far?

Speaker 2 (01:17:51):
Great?

Speaker 16 (01:17:51):
I think he feels great. I think he's excited. I
think he's confident about his ability to, you know, continue
to make big strides and whatever we are seventeen days
or whatever from opening day, I think, you know, he's
gonna attack each day. And but I'm proud of him,
you know, because he's a young player dealing with something
that you know, there's different timetables that you think, Okay,
it might be this, it might be that. But he's

(01:18:13):
beating every mark so far. So that's a great sign.

Speaker 4 (01:18:16):
And then ahead of.

Speaker 18 (01:18:16):
These decisions you have to make next week when it
comes to roster numbers, do you have a specific philosophy
try to stick to as far as like, for example,
we want to carry six receivers or is it more
solid year by your basis?

Speaker 16 (01:18:27):
No, it's definitely year by year. I mean you've got
general numbers, you know when you're looking to things, Okay,
five six receivers, is it?

Speaker 2 (01:18:34):
Is it?

Speaker 16 (01:18:34):
Five linebackers? How many defensive linemen combined, defensive ends, d tackles?
Those conversations have really been going ongoing throughout the entire
training camp process. You know, we talked a little bit
yesterday about it with you know, ownership, Jerry Steven, myself,
will coordinators. But again it's too early to tell because
there's gonna be some guys that in this game show

(01:18:56):
that they deserve a spot on this team, and then
you have to find a way to make that happen.
And there's always injuries that played their self into it
as well. But it's a fluid thing for sure.

Speaker 8 (01:19:07):
All the kind of answer to that.

Speaker 18 (01:19:08):
But when you're going into that decision on next Tuesday,
do you happen numbers ahead of time or is that
part of the conversation too.

Speaker 16 (01:19:15):
I mean, you've got projections of where you think you're
going to be. I mean, I so won't share with
you guys, but we have the projection of what we
think is going to be. But it certainly can move
and you have to be ready to pivot if it
does change or adjust based on this week's practices and
or the game against Atlanta.

Speaker 1 (01:19:35):
There's some shoddy sound for you. Brian schannehim Er, the
Cowboys head coach. Up next, we hear from the log
Orange quarterback Arch Manning. When we continue on thirteen under
the Zone. Okay, we're about to here from March Manning.
I wanted to give you just a few more of
these names off this top one hundred list college football.
You'll see where I'm going with this number twenty nine,
according to ESPN as Carson backed the Miami senior quarterback

(01:19:58):
or transfer from Georgia, Jordan ty the you know, the
wide receiver from Arizona State, of course, and missed out
on the quarterfinal against Texas because of that injury. Deontay Lawson,
Alabama linebacker senior, is number twenty seven. Number twenty six
is Danny Dennis Sutton, the defensive enfant Penn State a senior.

Speaker 2 (01:20:19):
Number twenty five is Florida sophomore quarterback d J.

Speaker 1 (01:20:21):
Lagway, the native Texan from Willis Francis mile Gooa, the
offensive lineman from Miami's number twenty four. Number twenty three,
you're about to hear from him. Arch Manning is rated
number twenty three on the top one hundred college football
players by ESPN. So let's hear from the Longhorn sophomore quarterback.

Speaker 9 (01:20:43):
I know this is your first start on the road.

Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
He's just curious as a player's jacks is success for
being as far as having right mentality to go on
the road and.

Speaker 9 (01:20:50):
Half a SEPs.

Speaker 15 (01:20:51):
Yeah, I think for me, I feel I'm playing best
when I'm having fun, So just remind.

Speaker 2 (01:20:55):
Myself to have fun.

Speaker 15 (01:20:56):
We do all the preparation throughout the week and throughout
this summer, so once you get out there, just cut
it loose and have some fun.

Speaker 11 (01:21:03):
How how how is it having fun against this defense
every day practice?

Speaker 9 (01:21:08):
How's it gone? You know, tass that some days you win,
some days the defense works.

Speaker 15 (01:21:14):
Yeah, I think our defense is really good. Some days
it's not so fun. But uh, they're a really good,
good group, and it's it's definitely good for me going
against some of those guys every day.

Speaker 7 (01:21:26):
How do you personally handle the hype, not only for
yourself but for this team, having you know, the number
one preseason rankings, a championship expectations. How do you all
handle that high quarter this season?

Speaker 8 (01:21:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 15 (01:21:37):
I mean that doesn't mean anything. Being ranked before the
season even starts done me anything. I don't even know
how they get those opinions, But I feel like we
do a good job of keeping the main thing the
main thing, trying to get better every day and and
go win some games.

Speaker 14 (01:21:50):
Going back to playing on the road and they used
to have the boom boss coming out the tunnel and.

Speaker 8 (01:21:54):
Another bang, Well, what is the difference that you got
to solve that you have to see as you say,
from last year's team fall on the road.

Speaker 2 (01:22:00):
What is it like the different a.

Speaker 8 (01:22:02):
Mentality that you got to have witness.

Speaker 15 (01:22:04):
Yeah, it's a different mentality. It's it's it's us against
the world when you're on the road. And I think
the teams in the previous years, I think Quinn did
a really good job on the road. He had a
ridiculous record on the road. So learned from him and
the teams last year to carry over for this year.

Speaker 5 (01:22:18):
Why you go to singles with Wingo in the off season.
What are some of the things you did to kind
of get a chemist troop all.

Speaker 9 (01:22:24):
The new receivers in absence?

Speaker 15 (01:22:26):
Yeah, obviously just throw an extra and trying to get
a real with them. I think Wingo is a guy
who's the last two weeks been practicing really well. I mean,
he made a ridiculous catch today. So it's been fun
getting closer with him this offseason and I'm excited.

Speaker 2 (01:22:38):
For him this year.

Speaker 14 (01:22:40):
At you you couldn't go five steps russe where grabbing
you on to autograph Sophie Once the.

Speaker 9 (01:22:47):
Practices started, did it kind of slow down for you?
And is it is it better now that you can
use into the season itself and all.

Speaker 15 (01:22:55):
Yeah, Yeah, it's been great. Been away from y'all. It's
been good. It's been kind of clearing my head. But
you know, I don't look at any of that stuff.
I I just play my game, have fun with the guys,
and enjoy life.

Speaker 9 (01:23:08):
Particle that's so you can. I've been able to just
sit back and cut and watch plans. A post to the.

Speaker 14 (01:23:13):
Season has the alter you were posted this season at
all that you're a starry guy.

Speaker 9 (01:23:17):
You know, all your attentions kind of on you with
league as offense.

Speaker 15 (01:23:20):
Yeah, I try to make it not I guess in
the years past. I try to prepare like I was
a starter. Obviously, it's different when you're you're getting the
one reps during practice, but just taking a day by day,
trying to get a feel for my routine.

Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
This week and then and go on next week and
in the week's fourth.

Speaker 8 (01:23:37):
Knowing what you know for playing last year is what
the hits feel like.

Speaker 7 (01:23:41):
How much do you have to maybe rain in your
desire or run when you see some open field, knowing
that there's some big guys you're trying.

Speaker 8 (01:23:48):
To take you down.

Speaker 2 (01:23:49):
Yeah, I think I just need to be smart.

Speaker 15 (01:23:51):
Obviously, those hits add up My grandfather, he can you know,
he's hobbling around these days and he ends every call
with get down or get out of bounds.

Speaker 2 (01:23:59):
So I'm definitely hearing it a lot.

Speaker 5 (01:24:01):
What do you recall about the Ohio State defense from
studying a year ago?

Speaker 9 (01:24:05):
And where do you anticipate from how much you're thinking.

Speaker 4 (01:24:09):
About it roun that?

Speaker 15 (01:24:10):
Yeah, I mean we're full on Ohio State now, so
I'm thinking about them a lot. But they're a really
good team, Kale down, sunny styles. They got some good players,
so we're gonna have our hands full. But it's gonna
be a fun one.

Speaker 9 (01:24:23):
That's right. That's rights.

Speaker 15 (01:24:26):
No, I need to talk to them, but he's uh,
he's he's been around, and he's been around a lot
of ball and a lot of good balls.

Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
So it's gonna be a fun and we're excited.

Speaker 9 (01:24:35):
You'd be nervous.

Speaker 15 (01:24:38):
I mean I get kind of nervous in the hotel,
like kind of anxious. But once I'm out there, it's
time to roll.

Speaker 12 (01:24:43):
Yeah, I've been nervous.

Speaker 2 (01:24:45):
You get nervous, what kind of receiver? I don't get
too nervous.

Speaker 8 (01:24:50):
What kind of receivers there?

Speaker 2 (01:24:51):
He's a good receiver.

Speaker 15 (01:24:53):
He can play inside and outside, really quick, heart to tackle.

Speaker 2 (01:24:57):
Can block, So he's a he's got all the tools.

Speaker 10 (01:25:00):
We hear about Leo and and Deebo, who are some
of the younger receivers that are gaining your trust and
practice and you're.

Speaker 15 (01:25:05):
Starting to connected for Yeah, I think Parker he had
a really good springs having to go to fall camp,
and then Dale McCutcheon's been doing really well, smart, crafty,
So excited about those two guys.

Speaker 9 (01:25:15):
How would you assess your training camp up to this fort.

Speaker 15 (01:25:19):
You know, it's funny, I didn't have a great training
camp at the first part. It's gotten better, but definitely
was a little rocky there at first.

Speaker 2 (01:25:26):
Tell you that what if you learned from some of
the other guys in the quarterback in training camp. Yeah,
it's funny. We have a guy Matt Colwell who came here.

Speaker 15 (01:25:34):
He's been a few different schools and definitely it's good
for me to pick his brain. He's been around a
lot of football with different coaches and seeing different defenses,
so picking his brain has been good for me.

Speaker 8 (01:25:44):
Hearts. Your grandfather gave an interview where he said he
expects me to be here next.

Speaker 9 (01:25:49):
Year, Is he right?

Speaker 2 (01:25:50):
Yeah, I don't know where he got that from.

Speaker 15 (01:25:53):
He texted me and apologize about that, but I'm really
just taking a day by day right now.

Speaker 14 (01:25:58):
Largely ever a pin when you like and practice, the
defense gets the destiny of the day, which you kind
of can't wait to get back out there and you
know due to opposite this time trying to get the
upper handle on them.

Speaker 9 (01:26:08):
Is that something excited for you?

Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
Yeah?

Speaker 15 (01:26:12):
I think the worst days are when the kind of
the defense wins the day and we have a break,
like the next day is an off day.

Speaker 2 (01:26:17):
I kind of I want to get back out there
and and light them up.

Speaker 15 (01:26:19):
So those you definitely get excited for that competition in practice.

Speaker 12 (01:26:24):
Michael tiff he be a hard time, but he's appreciating
all in here on.

Speaker 8 (01:26:27):
Oh he is.

Speaker 2 (01:26:29):
He deserves it. He deserves it.

Speaker 15 (01:26:30):
He's a he's a good player, he's always in the
right spot, and he deserves every thing he's gotten.

Speaker 9 (01:26:37):
You said it was a little rocky at the beginning
of training camp.

Speaker 11 (01:26:39):
Is at just because of the defense or where you
needing to make some adjustments.

Speaker 15 (01:26:44):
Yeah, I think the defense is always pretty good at
the beginning of camp, but you know, I think we've
we've kind of caught a stride.

Speaker 2 (01:26:52):
On offense, so it's been it's been fun.

Speaker 11 (01:26:54):
Ark.

Speaker 10 (01:26:55):
Is there a concept that maybe coaching Millwi or coach
Sark trying to get you to understand year one out
of your three year like art that makes sense to
understand what they were talking about.

Speaker 15 (01:27:03):
Yeah, I think continue to make practice like a game
and play the situations and get as many game reps
in practice possible, whether it's not taking a sack or
throwing the ball away, stuff like that that I could
kind of continue to do.

Speaker 14 (01:27:16):
Hard to talk to you kind of joked about not
talking to us and then having that time that's on
on the media and you really are.

Speaker 9 (01:27:22):
To focus on ball, and that's trying to put yourself out.

Speaker 2 (01:27:24):
There like that. Why is that?

Speaker 15 (01:27:27):
I think that's just who I am. I'm not a
guy that seeks the media. No offense guys, but it's
really about the team, eleven guys in the field. So
we're excited right now and I'm just having fun. I
dreamed of being in this position, so I'm not going
to take it for granted.

Speaker 14 (01:27:41):
Yeah, start kesing and brings up the word respect so
much when he's talking about you.

Speaker 9 (01:27:47):
Why is it?

Speaker 14 (01:27:48):
How important is it to you earn that respect once
you come across as a guy that doesn't want to
be given anything.

Speaker 2 (01:27:54):
Yeah, it's funny.

Speaker 15 (01:27:55):
When I first got here, I feel like the guys
that had the most respect for the guys that really
worked hard and took it seriously. So I followed their lead,
whether it was Jay Witt, Jonathan Brooks, Kelvin Banks, especially
guys like that.

Speaker 2 (01:28:07):
I wanted to be like, and look what they're at now.
So kind of goes full circle.

Speaker 14 (01:28:13):
Body those those two scrimmages about how you appreciate it
was an issue the first of the person with the
first scrimmage. In the second week, you would be emphasized
that and you probably looked at lacking jerky, you know,
because of that you can get that eliens of things
or what was that perspective.

Speaker 2 (01:28:29):
Of all of that.

Speaker 15 (01:28:30):
Yeah, I think always early in camp we're gonna have
some pre snap penalties, but obviously it's on me to
get the operational piece before the snap figured out.

Speaker 2 (01:28:39):
And I think we've done a better job of that.
You feel like you're being protected by that offensive line.

Speaker 9 (01:28:43):
How are they loved for so far?

Speaker 15 (01:28:44):
In Campra Yeah, we got a good group and we've
got guys that can play a lot of different positions
and move the guys around. We've been rotating some guys,
so it's been fun. It's a good group, they're tough,
and we're gonna compete every week.

Speaker 10 (01:28:55):
Yeah, during you're through to BE'ST twenty twenty three class.
That closer you with some of those guys that you're
a pretty highly appretive the start.

Speaker 15 (01:29:01):
Yeah, definitely close to the guys in my class. So
I came in with like C four Trey demo. So
we've got some good guys in that class, and I'm
glad we're all still together.

Speaker 9 (01:29:11):
What have you seeing from Christian Clark?

Speaker 2 (01:29:13):
Yeah, Christian's good.

Speaker 15 (01:29:14):
He can he can get in and out of cuts, smart, tough,
so we're excited see what he can do this year
here with his best weekend. Yeah he botheredn't he? Yeah
he's a baller bro. He's accurate and can make plays.
So I'm excited for him. I talked to him like
a few weeks ago. I need to catch up with him.

(01:29:35):
I know he's busy right now.

Speaker 12 (01:29:37):
Starts put it in the whole playbook or does he
kind of give it to you, teach meals.

Speaker 9 (01:29:43):
You're just started two games.

Speaker 15 (01:29:46):
Yeah, I mean we're always putting new stuff and building,
but uh, yeah, we we have a bunch of good plays.

Speaker 11 (01:29:52):
In Stark was talking about how early in camp maybe
some guys were letting the bad play linger and and
affected him the next play.

Speaker 9 (01:30:02):
Did you see that and how would you say that's
been addressed?

Speaker 2 (01:30:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 15 (01:30:07):
I think the coaches are always talking about the next
play mentality, and you need that as a quarterback. If
it's a if you throw a pick, you got to
rebound the next drive, or something doesn't go your way,
it's it's a next play mentality.

Speaker 2 (01:30:20):
I don't know. Quinn did a really good job of that,
and I learned a lot from him.

Speaker 15 (01:30:24):
Last year he had a bunch of tip picks that
weren't really his fault and he rebounded like a pro.

Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
So I've definitely learned a lot from him there.

Speaker 14 (01:30:31):
Why do you think it was important to tell the
media and when they were asking him about the heisman
it if you haven't done anything yet.

Speaker 9 (01:30:38):
You know, we started two games.

Speaker 2 (01:30:39):
Yeah, I mean I just said that because it's true.

Speaker 15 (01:30:43):
I'm definitely honored that people think that, But you know,
I haven't done anything yet, and it's about winning games at.

Speaker 8 (01:30:49):
Think he's folle though, are usually ready to go out
there and show it.

Speaker 2 (01:30:51):
Yeah, I'm ready. I'm ready to go yesterday.

Speaker 15 (01:30:56):
That this is kind of a locket for you guys,
and they're giving new stuff to kind of simulate class work.

Speaker 12 (01:31:01):
Have they given you anything for that?

Speaker 9 (01:31:03):
And also how does it feel to get back through
their routine and season?

Speaker 15 (01:31:06):
Yeah, I think this week is good for me to
kind of find my routine for the season. I like
to kind of keep the same same routine day by
day throughout the week, So this week.

Speaker 2 (01:31:15):
Kind of is it a little bit of a test run.

Speaker 11 (01:31:18):
Can you talk about what you're seeing from Trey and
Caldwell as they try to vote kJ try to become
your backup.

Speaker 15 (01:31:28):
Yeah, they've all shown that they can be really good quarterbacks.
Matt especially, he's been around the block and Tray and
kJ MA make a lot of good plays, a lot
of good throws.

Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
So I've learned a lot from them.

Speaker 15 (01:31:39):
Learning from them their reps too and practices has been
very good for me.

Speaker 5 (01:31:43):
Rashaws for art, have you ever talked with kJ about,
you know, the benefits of stained patient considering that you.

Speaker 9 (01:31:50):
Paid your dues for two years.

Speaker 2 (01:31:51):
Yeah, he does a way better job than me.

Speaker 15 (01:31:53):
And I think a lot of the times I regret
my freshman year was kind of I could be in a.

Speaker 2 (01:31:58):
Bad mood going to three.

Speaker 15 (01:32:02):
He's going with the two's not really not really sure
I'm not gonna play.

Speaker 2 (01:32:05):
And I think he.

Speaker 15 (01:32:06):
Always is a positive attitude, and I think that's a
really good thing.

Speaker 2 (01:32:10):
And I've it's been cool to see wherever in the
restaurant that wait about. Yeah, it definitely helped me a lot.
I'm looking back.

Speaker 15 (01:32:18):
I was probably not ready to play my freshman year,
so I learned a lot and I learned a lot
about myself.

Speaker 2 (01:32:22):
And I think it's helped me a lot.

Speaker 1 (01:32:24):
So the very calm, cool and at ease nature that
surrounds arts as he gets ready to take the reins
of this long worn football team. Like I said, he
was sharing number twenty three in the ESPN Top one hundred.
By the way, number twenty two is Gabe Blue Jacos,
the Illinois senior outside linebacker Sam Levitt the Arizona State

(01:32:47):
sophomore quarterbacks number twenty one, and number twenty is Mattio
Uyagala from Oregon. The junior defensive end. That's there to
number twenty. We will tell you the top twenty going
up the list up to number one when we continue
on this yacht Rock Wednesday on Sports Radio AM thirteen

(01:33:08):
under the Zone. All Right, we've gone through the if
you will, the bottom eighty or at least from number
twenty to number one hundred. The countdown from one hundred
down to twenty of what's according to ESPN is the
top college football players going into this twenty twenty five season.
So and Arch Banning was number twenty three on that.

(01:33:31):
Trey Weisner has already been mentioned as well, So there's
some other long corns in the here. As we count
down in the top twenty, Number nineteen South Carolina sophomore
quarterback Lenora Sellers. Number eighteen is Keldric Falk, Auburn junior
defensive end. You're going to hear a lot of SEC
and big ten from here on down the rest of
the list. Number seventeen is Drew Aller, the Penn State quarterback.

(01:33:53):
Sixteen John Mattier, the Oklahoma junior transfer quarterback. Fifteen Nicholas Singleton,
the running back from Penn State. Number fourteen Cayden Proctor,
the junior offensive tackle from Alabama. Number thirteen. You called
games with this guy when Leonard Moore was a Round

(01:34:15):
Rock Dragon, Yeah, and it's funny. As a freshman last year,
there's some question marks about him. They were like, well,
he'll be a great kick returner and great on special
teams because he was always good on that.

Speaker 2 (01:34:30):
But and of course he played all over the field.
He played everywhere for Round Rock.

Speaker 1 (01:34:34):
But it was like what can he do as a
freshman in the secondary, he had two interceptions, he broke
up eleven passes, but even more important, he allowed just
thirty nine percent of completions on fifty one percent or
on fifty one targets in his direction, so fifty one

(01:34:57):
times players were targeted in his direction and the opposing
quarterback was only able to complete the past thirty nine
percent of the time. And then in the playoff for
Notre Dame, he allowed his fifty eight total yards while
breaking up four passes against Georgia.

Speaker 2 (01:35:15):
So he did a heck of a job there.

Speaker 1 (01:35:16):
So Letard Moore than the Round Rock Dragon and noting
fining Irison number thirteen. Number twelve is Ryan Williams, the
Alabama sophomore again, like I said here in the top twenty,
is there anyone who isn't SEC or Big ten? Nineteen
is SEC, eighteen is SEC. Seventeen is Big ten, sixteen

(01:35:40):
is SEC. Fifteen is Big ten, fourteen is SEC. Thirteen
is Notre Dame. So that's the exception at this point.
Number twelve is Alabama sophomore wide receiver Ryan Williams. Number
eleven is Colin Simmons long warn sophomore defensive end. Of course,
he had thirty He won solo tackles as a freshman

(01:36:01):
with nine sacks, three fourth fumbles, that kind of thing.
Sensational freshman season, he won the Shawn Alexander Freshman of
the Year Award. Now it's funny he's ranked number eleven
on this deal. He wore number eleven last year. Yeah,
he shifted to number one, so he'll be wearing a
jersey number one this year. Now to the top ten,

(01:36:22):
and again another SEC player there, So it is at
number ten. South Carolina sophomore defensive end Dylan Stewart. He
had an outstanding year last year Football Writers Association of
America Freshman All American, so he was something there. Okay,
Number nine not an SEC or big ten guy. It's

(01:36:47):
Clemson junior defensive lineman Peter Woods. Yeah he is, and
he kind of he's won both plays to play tackle
and in and so they really like him. So he
could kind of be an edge rusher or he can
be right over the nose. Number eight Garrett Nusmeyer, the
junior quarterback from LSU. So back to the SEC thing

(01:37:10):
and Nussmeyer also Texas high school football quarterback prospect out
of Flower Mount Marcus and the son of Dugan Nusbay
and the former NFL quarterback and Cowboys assistant. Number seven
Spencer Fano, who is the Utah junior offensive lineman. So
that one does Jim. That's a big twelve player in there.

(01:37:31):
Fano at number seven. Number six t J. Parker, Clemson
junior defensive lineman. So back to the ACC with the player.
Then now into the final five the top five. Jeremiah Love,
Notre Dame junior running back, so an independent there even
though they play that SEC associated schedule, but they operate
as an independent. Jeremiah Love, who rushed for eleven hundred

(01:37:52):
and twenty five yards last year, into the ACC solidly
the former Westlake Chaparral quarterback Kate Klubnick of Clemson is
number four on the list heading into his thirty year start,
and he's usually right now, Cam, what I've seen is
the consensus preseason All American at quarterback now pretty much

(01:38:14):
whatever All American ranking you see, he's listed as the
as the first team quarterback.

Speaker 3 (01:38:20):
And he's a big reason why as we get closer
to kickoff, you know, we talked about these lists of
you know, sleeper teams and national championship picks. Clemson's getting
a lot of picks this season, and a lot of
it's because you think about it, who is the most
veteran quarterback in college football?

Speaker 2 (01:38:38):
It's actually Kate Klubnick.

Speaker 3 (01:38:39):
A lot of these younger guys you look down, I
mean even even arch Manning, right, I know, garrettnuss Meyer's
a junior, but last year was his first year as
a starter. Kate Clubmick's coming in is what this is,
fourth year, fourth.

Speaker 2 (01:38:49):
Year in the program. Thirty year is a starter, third
years of start.

Speaker 3 (01:38:52):
So he's by far he has the most experienced out
of any really out of the Power five contenders, and
a big reason why a lot of people are picking
Clemson to win yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:39:00):
Season, Yeah, he had to have a real shot of
winning the national title. Number three, and arch Manning mentioned
him yesterday. Caleb Downs, the junior safety from Ohio State.
You heard ourts talk about him just a few minutes
ago we were running the audio there. He's number three.
All he did last year was eighty one tackles, two

(01:39:21):
interceptions and six passes defensed correctly. Number two is Anthony
Hill long Worne junior linebacker. Anthony Hill junior at fifty
nine solo tackles, sixteen and a half TFLs, tackles for loss,
eight sacks, four force fumbles. So and he was number

(01:39:43):
thirty in the postseason ranking at the end last year,
and he's up to number two. And you heard Sark
say what he has done. He's really been impressed with
how well he has tackled. And Number one, I don't
think anybody's really surprised by this one. It's Jeremiah Smith,
the Ohio State sophomore wide receiver. He was just absolutely

(01:40:06):
incredible last year throughout the season and he had five
touchdowns in Ohio States four postseason. I will say the
long Words did a good job on him, but it
left other guys open as well, so it was kind
of a pick your poison thing.

Speaker 3 (01:40:20):
Top three players in this list. We'll be playing each
other in coming days. In ten days, we'll be sharing
the football. Yeah, we're looking forward to that.

Speaker 2 (01:40:27):
All right.

Speaker 1 (01:40:27):
We will be back to wrap up today's edition of
the program right here on AM thirteen under the Zone
