Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's go back to hearing from the two head coaches
for this Chick fil A Peach Bowl that will be
coming up on New Year's Day. As we know, it
will be a week from Wednesday, and so it's nine
days away and you'll hear it here on AM thirteen
under the Zone. Our coverage will begin at nine o'clock

(00:21):
in the morning with long runs game day with the
kickoff and in a network airtime at eleven AM and
the kickoff at noon Central time. Texas and Arizona State.
All right, let's hear from the head coach of Speaking
of Texas and Arizona State, there's several former long runs
around the Arizona State roster and Sark was asked for

(00:42):
his thoughts. I'm going up against some of his former players.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
You know.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
I think this is college football in twenty twenty four,
you know, and moving forward. It's almost got a little
bit of an NFL feel that way, you know. And
I'm happy for all those guys, you know, especially the
guys that are having some success.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
In Coach Dillingham's program.

Speaker 3 (01:02):
You know, in this day and age of college football,
it's about creating opportunities for our young people and the
way the transfer portal works, and when new coaches get
jobs and half their roster. I'm sure when Kenny took
over at Arizona State jump ship and now he's trying
to fill his roster, and so that creates opportunities for
other players and other programs to maybe go there and

(01:23):
contribute and find a role that's different than maybe their
role was here, and vice versa for that matter. And
so I'm happy for all those guys that they had
this opportunity. You know, you transfer schools and you never know,
we go to transfer to have an opportunity to get
in the College Football Playoff for those things in reality,
and for them to be, you know, in in the

(01:43):
quarterfinal the CFP, I'm really happy for those guys. And so,
you know, I know our players are you know, they
were kind of talking about today so and so yeah,
so and so you know that the name started popping
up again today. So, but I do think that's the
era of college football where we're at now. It's twenty
twenty four, the portals alive and well, and you know
twenty twenty five is gonna roll around.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
There'll be more faces moving around, all right.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
So then Dillingham was asked on the counter the thoughts
that or the feedback he's gotten from his guys who
had played at Texas and transferred to Arizona State.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
What's the vibe he's.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Getting from those guys about going up against the former school.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
That's the nature of the Beasts right now is people
will be moving around, You'll be playing your former teammates.
And I mean, at the end of the day, we're
playing in the Peach Bowl with eight teams left.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
If that is more energy, then something's wrong with you.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
If you need external factors to get excited to play
this game, you're at the wrong program here. You know,
we want people who are competitive. Where's eight teams left
in college football? This about competing verus one of the
best teams in the country in the Peach Bowl and
all one hundred and twenty of our guys get to go,
all one hundred and twenty of their guys get to go.

(02:59):
And UH experienced what college football is about, and that's
competing in.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
One of the biggest bowl games.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
Next question for Sark is about gunner Helm and he
continues being the long Wars leading leading receiver, called a
big touchdown pass and was asked about Gunner's role in
the offense.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Yeah, so Gunner, Yeah, I think we all know the path,
his journey, the development that he's that he's had in
our in our program.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
You know, I'm I'm super proud of him.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
But I like about Gunner's you know, he's a really
versatile guy. You know, we we rely on him to
block the Syria. Uh he you know, he has some
tough matchups against some of these six techniques that he's
that he's blocking. He had a couple of tough matchups
the other night when they moved the three technique out
to defensive end. It was not a favorable matchup. But
he fights for us in the Syria and he does
a great job. He's a he's a really good play

(03:47):
action pass tight end where we can find voids for him,
but he also has evolved his game now into a
down the field threat and a guy who can make
plays with the ball in his hands with with yards.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
After the catch.

Speaker 3 (04:01):
And I do think his catcher radius is a positive
of his and I think Quinn trusts that from him
that he's going to be where he's supposed to be
and that his catch radius is what he is and
so he can place balls in certain spots that he
knows maybe if Gunner doesn't catch it, it's probably incomplete.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
And they've just got good rapport.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
You know, they've been together for three years now and
I think there's a lot of trust there.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yeah, and then Dylan Ambles asked about Gunner Hilm and
the challenges that the long range tight end faces for
his group.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
Overall, really good player.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
They do a good job getting him open the middle
of the field with the play action game, the screen game,
and then they use the width of the field so
well that the middle of the field opens up for
his game.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
And his length and.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Size and the fact that he is a good seria
blocker sets everything up in between the ashes for them,
whether it's vertically down the field, whether it's over the
ball spacing concepts, or whether it's screens at the line
of scrimmage. The way they up their offense really allows
a tight end to dominate in between the hashes on
early downs and I think he does a phenomenal job

(05:08):
of that with his catch radius and his physicality.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
And then he's dynamic, you know, he catches the ball.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
He has great contact balance when he catches the ball,
He's not a tight end that's clumsy and catches it
and falls. He catches it and extends completions, which is
something that you never like to see when you're going
versus tight end. You want those guys to catch it
in fall. You don't want him to catch it and run.
And that's something that he does really well.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
Yeah, all right, now back to the injury front. Sark
was asked if he thinks he'll be able to have
Isaiah Bond back on the field after Bond had to
sit out a last game and the course also couldn't
go against Texas A and M so his thoughts on Bond, Yeah, I.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Think, like I said going into last week's game, I
think Isaiah continues to make really good progress for us.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
You know, obviously we're quite a ways out, so well,
my goal is.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Coming out of Christmas here that that progress continues in
a positive direction.

Speaker 2 (05:58):
Then we can see where it goes from.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
If you know anything about Arizona State in specific the
Sun Devil offense, it really starts with Cam Skataboo.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
He is the running back.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Sam Levitt, the redshirt freshman quarterback of the transfer from
Michigan State, is done a fine job, but Cam Scataboo is.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
The straw that stirs that drink. He is something else.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
In fact, I'm on record I've been saying it for
weeks that while I completely understand Travis Hunter winning the
Heisman traffic, I got no problem with that. I might
have leaned toward Ashton genty a Boise he State, but
that's real close on them. But in the Big Twelve,

(06:41):
Travis Hunter gets a Player of the Year, but offensive
player of the Year is Shuear Sanders. I disagreed with that.
I thought Cam Scataboo was more important to his team
and what they did at Arizona State. There's no way
they're in the playoff without Scataboo's gaudy rushing numbers. So
in discussing the running back Cam Scataboom, Sark was asked

(07:04):
for his thoughts on trying to defend this guy.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Well, I think this. You know, he's a really versatile player.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
I think when you first turn it on Cam's tape,
you're thinking you're just going to see Mike Alstatt, You're
just going to see this bruiser that's just running into
the line of scrimmage and bouncing off of people. And
then the more you watch him, you're like, man, this
guy's got really good feet. This guy's got great contact balance.
This guy, right when you think he's getting ready to
run somebody over, he makes a miss.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
He uses the stiff arm. He's really good in the
open field. He can run away from you.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
And then all of a sudden, you're like, but wait
a minute, this guy catches the ball really well out
of the backfield. He's got, you know, really good initial
quickness after the catch to get vertical.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
And so he's a really versatile player.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
You know, I was hoping he was going to be
kind of a one dimensional guy, you know when you.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
Just kind of watch Sports Center and different things, or
you know, but all.

Speaker 3 (07:56):
Of a sudden you start looking at the cutup of
him and the explosive plays and how they're happening. His
versatility is probably the thing that stands out to me
the most.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
All Right, we're gonna hear more from Sark and also
from Kenny Dillingham, the head coach at Arizona State. It's
thirteen thirteen in that famous idahoe at Tata Bowl, and
they're down inside of the last two minutes with Fresno
State driving on northern Illinois. But we hear more from
the Beach Bowl head coaches coming up on sports Radio
