Speaker 1 (00:00):
Craig Wavey with you on a Friday afternoon alongside producer
Cameron Parker. Glad to have you with us as well,
and we're ready up till five o'clock this afternoon, getting
you ready for the weekend and hope things are off
to a good start.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
I'll tell you.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
What what's can you update us on that pg FedEx
Cup leader board?
Speaker 3 (00:21):
Cam Adam Scott with a sixty three the day's got
himself a five shot lead. Right now. The second of
three postseason tournaments for the PGA Championship with the PGA
Tour and the FedEx Cup Championship played the BMW played
at Castle Pines, the return back to Colorado, and right
(00:43):
now Adam Scott in front, Alex Norrin eight under, Keegan
Bradley in third place right now and in fact just
rolled in a birdie putt from about eight feet center
of the cup to reach eight under, tied for second
now Center Shoftley tied it for a fourth with Corey
Connor's ludfig Oldberg the Texas Tech Red Raider in a
(01:06):
tie for six with a handful of other golfer Scotty
Scheffler just one under the lone Longhorn remaining in the
PGA Championship or PGA Tour rather, he's just beginning his
back nine with Xander Soffley.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
So that's your update for you.
Speaker 3 (01:21):
Not it's a good crowd up there, but just not
a lot of buzz this week, especially when the Women's
Tour is playing the Women's Open, the e i G
Women's Open at the Old Court in St Andrews, which
seems to get a little bit more attention in this
FedEx Cup.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
And Nellie Cord a big second day with a bogie
fee round of sixty eight, so she's on top of
the leader board there at the Old Course at Saint Andrews.
Just to make sure everybody understands, because I've gotten this
question with regardless Scottie Scheffler. So he went into the
FedEx Cup with what about a two thousand point lead?
Speaker 3 (01:59):
I think more?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Yeah, maybe even more than that. Okay, So where where
is it standing right now?
Speaker 1 (02:04):
And what what does he need to do to lock
up something that he hasn't won the FedEx Cup.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
Well, so the final thirty golfers in the standings will
advance the next week at East it's fifty.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
It's fifty this week. It was seventy last week, fifty
this week, and.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Then what the next week in Atlanta thirty Tour Championship.
He came in this week ranked first, and even though
he is at one under time for twenty six, he'll
go in the next week as of right now, still
in first place, and he'll have that two stroke lead
the way they had that staggered h scoring. So he's
in a good position here. He does not have to
win this week or finish second or third to stay
in first place. If sanders softly, if he you know, wins,
(02:44):
then maybe he might threaten for one two. But Scotty
will go in the next week as the one or
two seed heading into the final.
Speaker 1 (02:51):
Tournament, okay, and then he would carry you said, a
two shot lead.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
Yeah, I think he'll be at ten under, second place,
will be eight under third place, seven, and then like
like four and five I can't remember, and then you
just play it out from there, you just play it
for me. Yeah, okay, all right, So I hope that
explains it for those who needed to know that. All right,
that one other story I was going to get to
and coming up in a few minutes, Roger Wallace will
be with us.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
We'll talk some football and some baseball and some other
things as well. But there was one other story that
I wanted to get to that involved a Florida man
from Inconceivable. But I didn't want to rush through this
because it deserved enough, It deserved enough merit to go
through this whole story, and then there's another story to
(03:38):
get to. That's that's bears discussion. First of all, the
headline for this one is Florida man impersonated Dave Portnoy
reviewed pizza joint for several years to dupe tourists with
uncooked food.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
And if I wondered, what in the world is that
all about?
Speaker 1 (04:02):
A lot going on in that sentence. Well, here's the deal.
A Florida man allegedly impersonated a popular pizzeria once given
a favorable review by Barstool Sports founder and pizza critic
Dave Portnoy to fool unsuspecting tourists into ordering uncooked and
(04:23):
in frau or fraudulently priced food. Jose Marty Alvarez, fifty
five years of age, is accused of falsely advertising his
business in hotels throughout Miami Springs as the popular Romans
pizzeria and conning hungry customers into buying inedible food to
(04:46):
make money off the shop's notoriety. He was allegedly targeting
hotels near Miami International Airports. Law enforcement says he pulled
off the scam for several years and was slowly tarnishing
Roman Pizzeria's name. So customers filed complaints against the actual
(05:07):
pizza joint with the Better Business Bureau and put some
real negative reviews online. The owner of Romans Pizzeriajeseus Roman,
says he's been dealing with this issue for years and
first caught when to the scam when some upset customers
started reaching out to his shop. He said, sometimes they
would show up here to the store, claiming where's the food.
(05:30):
We have to explain to them that's not us. So
after the plains, complaints began to Mount Roman, who owned
the pizzeria He's owned it for over forty years, then
filed the police report. Marty Avarez was arrested by the
police on Monday, booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
He'd been charged with organized scheme to defraud. So this
(05:55):
suspected pizza imposter is also facing an aggravated battery charged
for allegedly hitting a hotel staff member with his vehicle
when he tried to flee after being confronted in the
parking lot. He appeared in Miami Dade court money this
week was ordered by Judge Mindy Glazier to avoid the
day's in that's the hotel where he hit the worker.
(06:15):
After discovering Marty Avarez was arrested, Roman had a stern
message for the man ruining his business reputation.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
At least, if you're gonna do something, do it right,
he said.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
So Anyway, the Portinoy had rated the pizza place just
the plane cheese PiZZ a solid seven four.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
So the crust is the showstopper, and it said.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
It's pretty good stop and then the guy was ruining
the reputation there. So that's why I said it deserved
its own merit.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
It's not funny to haesus Roman.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
I can tell you that, you know, you work so
hard to build up a good reputation and provide a
good product. Some dudes out there putting out and why
would you have undercooked that part?
Speaker 2 (07:04):
It's one thing.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
Do you think he's like going to publics and buying
like at the Jarno.
Speaker 1 (07:09):
Yeah, something like that maybe or their local brand, but
at least cook the pizza if you're gonna.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Serve it, right. Wow.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
So like, is he putting in the oven and is like, hey,
this order is supposed to be done within fifteen minutes, right.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
And I wasn't ready yet. I don't know.
Speaker 3 (07:24):
Or is he just driving around with a bunch of
just frozen pieces in the back of it dropping them
off them.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, it's nuts, that's wild. I know.
Speaker 1 (07:31):
You gotta wait for it for years, for years. Here's
another story, also from Florida. No no, this one involves
the state of Ohio.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
In the state of Alabama.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Bird Auburn is on the lou Groza Award watch list.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Right. The defending chanceampion, if you will.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
The winner of last year's Lou Grose Award is a
guy by the name of Graham Nicholson. He did it
at Miami of Ohio last year. Shout out Big ben Uh.
He made twenty seven of twenty eight field goals. Shout
out Roger Wallace's family. His parents were both professors at
Miami of Ohio. Wow. Roger grew up in Oxford, Ohio. Anyway,
(08:24):
Nicholson made twenty seven of twenty eight field goals last year,
all but one of his thirty six extra point attempts.
He was the first lou Grose Award winner from the
Mid American Conference. He transferred to Alabama. So, Alabama, he's
got a really good kicker. According to the head coach
(08:46):
of Miami of Ohio, Chuck Martin, they got him illegally.
He has accused Alabama of illegally recruiting Graham Nicholson. Now
Nicholson is replacing Will Reichard. Remember him, He got drafted
by the Minnesota Vikings. He set the FBS career extra pointless.
He made five hundred and forty seven during his Alabama career.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
So they had a media.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Gathering Miami of Ohio did and the media we're asking,
how are you going to replace your kicker? You know
you lost a kicker. You know, how are you going
to replace such a great kicker since you lost him
through the portal, He said, we didn't lose him. He's
at Alabama. We know exactly where he's at. You media people,
it's all pretend like no Alabama's no Alabama stole our kicker.
(09:37):
They illegally recruited our kicker and stole him from us.
That's a fact, but we act like it's not. We
live in this la la type world, like, hey, let's
not talk reality. I don't know why everyone knows what's
going on. Alabama stole our kicker. A couple other schools
tried to steal him, so they asked Kaitlyn to bore
(10:00):
about it. The new Alabama head coach his quote, he
entered the portal and we reached out to him. That's
how it goes, right, So we did everything the way
you're supposed to.
Speaker 2 (10:13):
That's his answer. He entered the portal, we took it.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
I think what the biome of Ohio coaches claim is
is that the reaching out happened before he entered the portal.
Speaker 2 (10:26):
That's what their claim is. So we'll see if anything
further comes to that.
Speaker 3 (10:31):
I mean, there's probably some third parties who are reaching
out to these students.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
Yes, family of Obama would love to have you.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
And saying hey, if your son or your client or
whoever enters the portal, then this and this we'll be
waiting for you.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
There may be some truth to that, no doubt about it. Now,
whether Calin de Bourne knows or could have done anything
about that.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
That's a different issue.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Next, Roger Wallace joins us, and we'll talk some football
and other topics when we continue on Sports Radio AM
thirteen under the Zone.
