Back to the Craig Way Show.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Connect with Craig through the text line by texting Texas
to eighty one five three zero followed by your message.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Standard message and data rates may apply.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
How'd you like to have a chance to win a
pair of tickets to see Sarah Silverman January fifth at
ACL Live.

Speaker 4 (00:26):
Here's what you do.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
You download the iHeartRadio app if you don't already have
it on your smartphone. Then you search AM thirteen hundred
the zone and then you'll see two buttons on there.
There's a white one to listen to the programs. Here
on the station, there's a red button with a little
white microphone in. You tap that red button with the
white microphone and that activates our talk back feature and

(00:48):
you leave us a voice message up to thirty seconds.
It's a little voice message saying, hey, I heard the
keyword on the radio for trying to win the tickets
for Sarah Silverman. Today's keyword easy Silverman. It's that easy.
So all I have to do is just say I
heard the keyword Silverman, and then you'll be entered into

(01:08):
the drawing to try to win a pair of tickets
to see Sarah Silverman. So there you go with that.
All right, Let's let's hear some more from Loggorn's head
coach Steve Sarkasian, And somebody asked him about this whole thing.
Is there a concern about how the College Football Playoff

(01:30):
Committee views it views Texas as to whether they're quote
unquote winning ugly and how do you define ugly ball?

Speaker 4 (01:38):
And does it make it more difficult?

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:40):
First of all, a ton of respect for coach Stops.
I think his teams are coached really, really well, very
sound football teams in all three phases.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
You know, they're gonna they're gonna grind.

Speaker 5 (01:52):
You out defensively, and then they're going to grind you
out offensively. And when they get their opportunities in the
fourth quarter, they're gonna take their shots at you. And
I think that's what happened in the Old Miss game.
They tried their best in the in the Georgia and
Tennessee games to do the same. But a ton of
respect me very talented defensive football team. These guys have
NFL guys all over the place, so heck of a

(02:14):
challenge for us, all right.

Speaker 3 (02:16):
Next up, he was asked about Alfred Kyle, or actually
about his offense, the numbers would reveal it. He was
our friend Eric Henry who pointed this out. The numbers
in terms of a total number of explosive plays are
very close to last year, and so does he feel
this year's offense is as explosive as last year's If.

Speaker 5 (02:39):
The numbers say that, sure, you know, you know, we're
just trying to move the football. We're trying to win games.
We're trying to do what's necessary to win games. You
know what I was super impressed with with our offense
Saturday In the fourth quarter. We had to have a
drive and we and we was a three point game.
We needed a drive and we needed execution. They did that.

(02:59):
We got turnover six point fifty five left to go
in the game. We need to possess that ball the
rest of the game.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
They did that.

Speaker 5 (03:06):
Like so, as much as we want to look at
explosive plays and all those kinds of things, and that's
great offenseive football, it's about execution in the moment and
what we're trying to accomplish. And I think that's something
that this offense is doing at a really high level.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
They are managing games in a way.

Speaker 5 (03:23):
That is putting us in position to be successful, and
we're creating explosive plays too, you know when that time comes.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
But I was that fourth quarter offensively.

Speaker 5 (03:34):
I couldn't have been more proud of those guys in
the way that they managed the opportunity that they had.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
All Right, So there's that now a question about Alfred
Collins and that climb up not only to having that
consistent level of play, but also play making like causing
the fumble on Saturday and tipping both passes that got
intercepted in the Florida game, those types of things, and

(04:00):
what role Kenny Baker, the new defensive line coach, may
have played in all.

Speaker 5 (04:03):
This, Like anything, you know, with opportunity comes responsibility, and
I think Alfred has assumed the responsibility of the opportunity.
Vernon is the same way. You know, they're both playing
at a really high level. It sometimes it's more difficult
to remain consistent when you know, oh, well, I'm gonna

(04:24):
get my you know, ten twelve, fifteen plays. But when
you know you're getting counted on for thirty five forty
plays a game, you tend to lean into. I got
to do all the little things right, and whether it's
your hands whether it's your footwork, whether it's fitting to
run a certain way, staying in your gap, whatever that
looks like. And so I think Alfred sees the moment

(04:46):
and sees the opportunity, and you know, totally like I
can't tell you guys enough. I know I'm speaking a
lot on because I'm reminiscing on a lot of these
guys and knowing its senior day, but like so proud
of him from where he's come.

Speaker 1 (05:02):
To get to this point.

Speaker 5 (05:03):
And I remember doing press conferences, you know, three four
years ago talking about Alfred.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
What's the issue with Alfred Well, consistency.

Speaker 5 (05:12):
All of a sudden, now we have a really consistent
player who's very talented, and he's making a lot of
plays for US.

Speaker 4 (05:18):
Okay, continuing with the defense. John A.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Baron, of course, had that tough decision to make whether
to return for a six season. It will surely pay
dividends for him having a Thorpe Award type of season.
I would be shocked if he's not a finalist for
it and have to be considered one of the leading
contenders for the Thorpe Award. And so he was asked
about when Jeanne made the decision to come back. What

(05:48):
was the biggest thing area where you wanted to see
him improve.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
Well, obviously it was the move to corner, right, and
we're going to move you to corner and make this
a kind of a full time deal and then use
your versus and nickel and dime and those types of
things that present themselves, and his commitment to that I
think has been one of the more impressive things of
like understanding, Hey, I'm gonna go play corner, I'm gonna

(06:14):
do it at a high level. When I go play
dime and linebacker, I'm gonna blitz, I'm gonna do those
things that I do well. But he's a it's an
awesome example of I'm talking about Alfred, I'm talking about
John a. Like, you stick around our program and you
and you stay committed to what we're doing, You're gonna
reap the benefits of this. And I think John a

(06:35):
Is is a great example of that. And I'm so
proud of him too. Like I know I'm kind of
a broken record on some of this stuff with these guys,
but I'm very proud of him. For it's one thing
to come back, it's another to come back and then
put forth the effort and the work and the leadership
that he has, and it's showing.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
You know, it's paying off for him.

Speaker 3 (06:56):
Here's the quickest answer to a question of the news
conference all see long. He was asked if he thought
Quinn Yours would be playing his final college home game
on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
No idea.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
I forgot who asked that.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
I don't know his name, but he writes for Lone
Star Life. Okay, Josh Newman. Okay.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
The thing about that is, even if Josh's intimation is
that Quinn is going to leave after this season, it
still not might not be his final home game, like
we said it could. They could wind up playing on home
playoff game there as well. So that's why it would
also be impossible at this point to say for certainty

(07:45):
whether it is his final home game. If you watch
the Sunday NFL game, and I had it on my laptop,
but it was in the arena, so I didn't get
a chance to it. Now, Cam, which play was it
that Kansas City ran SARS played? Was it the counter reverse?

Speaker 2 (08:03):
It was the seven misdirection snaps, Yeah, Isaiah Bond that
he ran for about forty yards?

Speaker 4 (08:09):
Yeah, yeah, that counter reverse play, okay, and.

Speaker 2 (08:11):
It was exaper' worthy who actually was who took the
role of Isaiah Bond on that misdirection.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
And so he was asked, you know, did that give
him a little bit of pride knowing that Andy Reid
actually copied a Texas play for an NFL game.

Speaker 5 (08:28):
I've copied way more plays from Andy, from Andy Reid
than Andy Reid's ever copied from some from Steve Sarkisian.
So they he they do great stuff, you know, and
but hey, we're in this world of now more than
ever on Twitter, and plays are everywhere and diagnosed, and

(08:49):
you know, why did they do this and that? And
you know, for us to have Andy Reid run our
play the first play of the games, hey, that that's
kind of cool. But like I said, man, we've copied
way more plays from Andy Reid than Andy Reid's ever
copied from us.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
That's fair to say that.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
And then after that, he was asked about tracking his
team tracking to be the number one total defense in
the country and what meaning that might carry.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
I love it, you know that.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
I think it's a mentality, right, and it's the way
that we go about our business. And I think the
defensive players will probably tell you, and you guys have
to ask them. But I'm very connected to those guys,
I don't, you know, I don't just gravitate to the offense.
And that's easy to do, right and I'm over there,
I'm calling the place and whatnot. But I'm really I

(09:46):
probably have better, you know, to some degree, better relationships
with the defensive players on our team then sometimes the
offensive players because I go overboard to make sure that
I have those relationships. And so to watch those guys
the way they're playing right now, I'm, like I said,
very proud of them, very proud of our coaching staff
of what they're doing. And they're doing it at a

(10:09):
high level. And you know, we talked a lot of
this season going into it about getting the ball back,
and then what they're doing at such a high level
of getting the ball back and taking the ball back
for our offense. They're stopping the run, they're minimizing the
explosive plays, they're getting after the quarterback. They're just doing
a lot of really cool things, and they're doing it
in a way where they're celebrating it with one another,

(10:32):
and that's that's a joy to watch as well.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
All right, well, here's some more from Sar coming up
next hours. We continue on Sports Radio AM thirteen under
the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
