Speaker 1 (00:00):
Craig Way, joined by the producer Cameron Parker, with you
up until five o'clock this afternoon. As we mentioned as
always happy to take your questions, your thoughts or comments.
If you are interested in texting the program, that's easy
enough to do.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
All you have to do to do that is.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Send us a text, and you'll want to text the
word Texas followed by your question or comment to eight
one five three zero. And again text the word Texas
followed by your question or comment to eight one five
three zero. Standard messaging and data rates may apply. Let's
(00:47):
see somebody asking the question. One of us thought, somebody said,
can you pay with Oh, you sucks bucks? That's something
I guess, all right, And then our man CB says
five days left until Texas football kicks off. As we
(01:10):
were talking about it, he said, my favorite number five,
my first favorite, long worn James Brown number five role
left we all remember from nineteen ninety six in the
Big twelve championship game. He said he also hasn't played
fantasy sports since the year two thousand. Good for UCB
because it just you know, it can draw again. I've
(01:30):
been in the same league since nineteen ninety nine.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
I won the league that year, and I took a
chance on several Rams, an.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Unknown named Kurt Warner.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
And Tory Holt and Isaac Bruce and Marshall Falk. I
had all those guys, and of course the Rams won
the Super Bowl that year, and so I benefited from that.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
I've only and I haven't won it since.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
I've been to the finals I think once and barely lost,
but I haven't won it since. But we had our
fantasy draft yesterday. You had how many fantasy leagues are
you in? By the way, just too okay, just too
just to used to being. I think one time I
was in four or five. Just got ridiculous, hard to
keep up with, right rooty against yourself, one league against another.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
And stuff like that.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yeah, just you just can't remember who's on your team,
who you're playing, so kind of, you know, it's a
very chaotic mess. I think I've gotten the point where
I'll even think about maybe not even doing any leagues,
but then you know, people in the league still want
to do it. And so I had one more draft
left next Sunday, and that's it.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
I considered retiring from fantasy football after last year losing
Aaron Rodgers for a places end of the season. Yeah,
also had Justin Jefferson who was out several weeks. By
the way, that's who I also, I went back to
the well again JJ.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
So I did get him, I.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
Did take him, and and I do have Lamar Jackson
and have Matthew Stafford is the second quarterback and a
two quarterback league. But other than that, I'm not rerong
happy with a lot of the guys I have.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
So I think Stafford's to for a pretty big season.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
So I stay healthy, I do too, Hookah and cutback
waitting Ton.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah, yeah, that would be that'd be a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Okay, the as I mentioned, since we were talking about
the NFL big doings, big news today that Ceedee Lamb
has agreed to a new contract four year, one hundred
thirty six million dollars.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
It makes him the.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Second highest paid non quarterback in NFL history. Now, uh,
one hundred million dollars of the one one hundred and
thirty six million is guaranteed. Okay, one one hundred million
of it is guaranteed. The signing bonus is thirty eight
(04:01):
million signing bonus. Because remember there's a lot of talk
about what they got to get him for over thirty
million a year. There's a signing bonus is thirty eight million,
which comes out of that one hundred million guaranteed. Ray.
Speaker 2 (04:12):
Yes, he is set.
Speaker 1 (04:16):
He was set to play this season on that eighteen
million dollar fifth year option of his rookie deal and
then become a free agent, but the Cowboys have to
lock him up through twenty twenty eight. Justin Jefferson tops
the market at thirty five million a season, AJ Brown
at thirty two million, Aman Ross Brown at thirty million,
Tyreek Hill at thirty million.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
It makes Lamb the highest.
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Paid wide receiver in Cowboys history obviously as well so
by missing training camp and the three preseason games, Lamb
could be fined more than three million dollars, but we
knew this was coming. The team has the ability to
(04:58):
rescind the penalty since was on his workie contract, so
you know that's what that had to be in the negotiation.
It's like, okay, and we're just gonna forget about these fines,
right in addition to this, and it's not coming out
of the guarantee and it's not coming out of the
total package. You're just making that go away, right, had
(05:19):
to be part of the conversation there. Cowboys have three
practices this week back in the Metroplex.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
They're at the Star in Frisco.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
That's what our friend Greg Tepper, managing editor Dave Campill
Texas Football Magazine calls whenever there's a high school game there.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
He goes, let's go to the Star in Frisco.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
But they plan to work CD into action, they say
smartly after not being in training camp.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
He continued to work.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Out his own on his own, but the club wants
to reduce the risk of any type of injury leading
into that season opener against Cleveland coming up a week
from Sun Day. So you did call this the other day.
You said you thought they would get it done, and
we were hearing rumblings and Jerry continued to act play
(06:11):
a little koy about it and say, I'm not worried.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
I believe we'll get him. He's missed.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
But but these young guys are getting a lot of
work and we miss your CD. There's no there's no
getting around that. But now they got it done.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
So now it's just a matter of how game shape
ready is he.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
And now that all the attention turns to Dak Prescott
in getting a deal done, and you might wonder, well,
you know, shouldn't you pay the quarterback before the receiver. Well,
Dak pres guy's actually showed up the training camp and
practices and he's not going to hold out like Ceedee
Lamb was holding out. And now the Cowboys have voted
avoided what San Francisco is trying to avoid, which is
(06:54):
entering Week one without only one of your best players,
but two with Trent Williams and brand and I you
still holding out from the forty nine ers, but Dallas
Leeds get Ceede lambback, Dak's gonna play, so it looks
like they're gonna have all of their guys ready to go.
But will they continue to negotiate with Dak throughout the
season because he has all the leverage. Dak Prescott could
(07:15):
hold out if you wanted to. Fortunately for Jerry Jones
and Cowboys fans, he is not. But you'd like to
see this deal also get done pretty quickly. And for Dak,
you're worried about you know, you play Game one, what
do you get injured? You know you've already had one
major injuries in your NFL career, one more and all
of a sudden, you go from sixty million dollars to
you know, maybe thirty forty.
Speaker 1 (07:37):
Yeah, well, we'll see, and he is planning obviously to
play regardless of whether the deal gets And then there's
Michael Parsons also, can you get it done? A deal
done with that? Well, yes, this is the Cowboys. There's
no way they can't. They can't even fathom paying a
player out two years before his contract tens. You can
do that, Jerry Jones, Yes you can't, but.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
He probably bones.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
All right, coming up, we'll talk from college football and
we'll hear more from Steve Sarkisian from sarks season opening
