Speaker 1 (00:00):
Final hour of the program, not only today but for
the week because the Thanksgiving holiday is upon us Thanksgiving tomorrow,
Black Friday Friday, and then of course college football on Saturday,
including Texas and Texas A and M. We've talked quite
a bit about it. We'll do some more this hour
as well. We'll also talk to some long worn men's
(00:23):
and women's basketball. We'll have some more of that for you.
We'll hear from a couple of long worn players as
we have already, and also from Texas women's head coach
Vic Shaffer. We'll get to all of that, but I
do want to start off this hour with some NFL
how do you feel, Cameron Parker? I don't know it's
going to evoke any feeling. And what do you think?
(00:44):
I guess is the best way to describe make of
Daniel Jones with the Minnesota Vikings.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
Well from Minnesota, you know they've already lost JJ McCarthy
this year, so you know they have a backup that
has started a lot of NFL games. Now, danie je
Zones has not played in the playoff game. He has
not won a playoff game, and for a Vikings team
that I think despite the McCarthy injury, has hopes they
can make a playoff run with Sam Donald, who has
(01:11):
I think exceeded expectations this year. He's had good moments,
he's had some bad moments, but we played well in
overtime against the Bears. Definitely a big part of the
reason why the Vikings were able to win that game. So,
you know, I think for it's not going to move
the needle too much. I mean, their backup quarterback is
Nick Mullins and then they have Brett Rippion third stringers,
(01:32):
so two guys who have started before in the NFL.
But you know, I think you probably feel a little
bit more confident if something does happen to Sam Donald,
to have Genel Jones back there just in case.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Here's what's interesting about Donald. Of course, the Vikings are
nine and two, and Daniel Jones wanted to be traded
to a contender. Well, the Vikings are clearly a contender
for a wild card. They're still chasing the Lions right now.
But he is having a career year, is Darnold. He's
already passed his career high for touchdown passes in a
(02:04):
season with twenty one, and with an eye toward the future.
The Vikings are certainly looking at the fact that he's
gonna be a free agent on the open market, so
they could wind up losing him this year. So they
were able to get Daniel Jones on the cheap, really
three hundred and seventy five thousand bucks to pay for
(02:24):
the rest of the season. The Giants have what twenty
two million in dead camp cap money next year, so
they're gonna have to deal with that. Now. Jones is
going to start out off on the Vikings practice squad.
But it and that, by the way, also leaves open
the possibility he could sign with another team if another
starting quarterback goes down in three weeks, So yeah, it
(02:49):
could happen. He could. He could wind up signing with
another team if somebody gets hurt. So there's that, And
you know, there was all of that business about letting
Daniel Jones go. And what did you call him, Tommy
Cutlet's Tommy Cutler for Tommy DeVito. But sources have said
(03:12):
he's only a long shot to play against the Cowboys
tomorrow because he's got a forearm injuries. What does the
name Tim Boyle mean to you?
Speaker 2 (03:21):
To the quarterback?
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Yeah, he's the guy who's gonna it's not Drew Lock.
Uh No, it's probably gonna be Tim Boyle, is what
they're saying. It's probably gonna be the guy who will
get the start. Uh they're listed. No, I'm sorry, I
beg pardon, I jumped ahead, My eyes jumped ahead. You're right,
Drew Lock would start. Tim Boyle becomes the backup now
(03:43):
if something were to happen to Drew Locke. But you're right. Uh,
so Drew Locke gets the start uh in the game
uh tomorrow, So they said, Uh, Devita was not one
hundred percent to play because of the fore arm injury,
so probably not gonna play. Probably probably gonna be Drew
Lock going up there. So all you need is Tom
Herman up there with a backpack or something, you know,
(04:05):
the sidelines to kind of, you know, kind of tease
him a little bit. I don't know that. It probably
would be one way they could look at it. So
a couple of quarterback notes there for you. Also. JK.
Dobbins of course from Ohio State and from Lagrange, Texas, USA,
has a sprained mc l looks like he'll be out
(04:28):
just traded for just did you really? Oh? Looks like
he's going to be out against the Falcons week to week.
They're saying, so you know, maybe there's something there for him.
But yeah, and that was after the Ravens, of course
let him walk last season. But now it looks like
(04:49):
he's going to be out, So yeah, there's there's that
still going on. And I know this is going to
make you feel better. I know we were very concerned
about this, but Aaron Rodgers has said that he does
want to if he decides that he wants to play
next or it's with the Jets. Oh good, I know
(05:10):
that makes you feel better.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
No, do the Jets want him to be their quarterback
next season? Asked the question.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Yeah. So he was on Pat mcavee show yesterday and
he said, I don't even know if I want to
play yet, but New York would be my first option.
Turns forty one on Monday, said he will base his
decision on how his body feels, and to your point,
whether the Jets want him back, he said, you want
(05:36):
to be in a spot where you feel like you
can win and you're valued.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
So if you're a GM or head coach and interviewing
for that job, the first question you're asking Woody Allen
is Woody Johnson, Woody Johnson, Woody Allen's in the interview
room would be interesting, It would be very interesting.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
What are we looking at here?
Speaker 2 (05:54):
I read Rogers?
Speaker 1 (05:55):
What's he gonna do for us?
Speaker 2 (05:57):
You know they're asking, Yeah, what's happening with Rogers? Is
he skarying? Is he coming back? Because there's probably a
lot of head coaches and gms that do not want
him on the roster. Sabotaging the culture in the locker room?
Speaker 1 (06:10):
Is he sabotaging him? The culture in the locker room
seems like it for a while, but it seemed like
everybody loved him there.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I don't think so. I don't think anyone loved him
at all except for himself and his honourage. Maybe Defonte
Adams and Alan Bazzard and Randall Cobb, who somehow got
a contract.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
How about that? Rogers did say yesterday there was that
report by the Athletic that he wants to play in
twenty twenty five, but he doesn't want to play for
the Jets. He said, that's one hundred percent false. I'm
not jumping off the ship.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
So yeah, so then where did the story come from?
Speaker 1 (06:46):
Yeah? I mean you know when he was. He was
asked a couple of weeks ago if he wanted to
play in twenty twenty five. He said, yeah, I think so.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
That sounds yeah, I'm convinced. If he's convinced, I'm convinced.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Yeah, yeah, uh, he said, when you're forty going on
forty one year, obviously, at the end of your career. Obviously,
if it's New York, they have to want me to
be here, and then the new GM, the new staff
all have to want me to be with the Jets.
And then body wise, I have to see how I'm
feeling and if I want to sign up to go
(07:17):
back to the grind and all that. But it feels
good I'm healthy now. It's not as much fun when
you're dealing with rehab all the time. So if I
can stay healthy the rest of the year and play
the way I want to play, and everybody feels good
about bringing me back, then there's a decision there. And
if not, then there's all the other options. I think
at this point, I'm opening everything and attached to nothing,
So it's a good place to be.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
If the Jets were to cut them before June first,
it'd be a forty nine million dollar dead cap hit
the twenty twenty five season. Now, they were to release
him or trade him after June, first, it would be
fourteen million dollars, but then the rest of it would
roll over to twenty twenty six, which would be a
thirty five million dollars dead cat has.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
So they're responsible for the cash one way or another
unless they do a cap friendly trade with somebody where
they pick up a lot of dollars. Can't see that happening. Really.
This is not to say that there wouldn't be a
team that would be interested in the him.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
I'm sure there is.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
Yeah, yeah, maybe if Henew Jones had not been interested
in the Vikings, the Vikings and Jones, that would have
been interesting. If he kind of pulled the Brett farv
you know, Green Bay to Minnesota in this case, Green
Bay Jets Minnesota, same type deal, right, same thing, Green
Bay Jets, Minnesota. It would be the exact same path
(08:39):
that Brett Favre took if it wound up doing all that. Anyway,
the interim coach, Jeff Olbrich said there's no internal discussion
that's been had yet about shutting down Rogers. He said
he will absolutely start Sunday against the Seahawks, and that
a healthy Aaron Rodgers is an Aaron Rodgers we all love.
(09:03):
So maybe they're maybe they're wrong. We all that's what
he says. We all speaking. Healthy Aaron Rodgers is an
Aaron Rodgers we all love.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Here's the thing, Craig, He's forty one years old. You know,
every time he takes a hit or a sacker falls down,
you know, he takes like six seconds to get up.
You know, he's just he's at that point where he
does not want to get hit, and the more he
does get hit, the more likely he is to get hurt.
And you know, now you have an eighteen game schedule
plus the playoffs. You know, it's it's unlikely that he
(09:34):
can make it through a full season. I mean, look
at these young quarterbacks who go through a year. They
barely can make it through the year. Now you have
Aaron Rodgers at forty one years old. It's coming off
a huge injury, able to come back, and obviously this
season he has not been healthy. It's definitely impacted his place.
So the whole would be well if he you know,
if he does get healthy. I just don't know if
Aaron Rodgers will ever be healthy again in his life
(09:56):
to be able to play football.
Speaker 1 (09:57):
Not healthy enough anyway to be effective in the and
he said he's not going on the ir unless he
really is injured. All right, Coming up, we're gonna shift
back college football. Talk more about those college football playoff rankings.
No big, no change at all for Texas. But there
are other seismic changes that could be happening out of this,
(10:18):
including including I've heard this and read this, and it's
kind of difficult to believe, but when you do a
deeper dive into the numbers, the possibility that the Big
twelve conference could be left completely out out of the playoffs,
(10:39):
not just not get to buy, I'm talking completely out.
How in the world could that happen? We'll talk about it.
