Speaker 1 (00:00):
On a Thursday afternoon. As we draw closer yet closer
to the weekend, we are still nine days away from
the college Football Playoff beginning. Yeah, I don't know about you, Cam,
but I've detected a little uptick just going around the
city and visiting with the merchants and stuff like that.

(00:22):
At this time of year, this holiday shopping time of season.
That's sorts of folks are getting little jazzed up. They're
geting a little fired up about all this.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, it's fun. The expansion of the College Football Playoff,
the first time we have home field games for College
Football Playoff teams. That always adds more interest. And if
you're the home city for one of the hosts, I mean,
the interest for this game is probably maybe not the
same as it was for the Georgia game, but it's
up there.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
You know.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
It's probably the second biggest home game for Texas this season.
Of course, they had a you know, a pretty week
home schedule this year with A and M and College
Station and Oklahoma always up at the Cotton. So this
is a fun event. I think everyone's excited. And also
you have the the sudden death nature to it, right,
you win, you advance you lose, you go home. And

(01:10):
but we do know win or lose, it is the
final home game for Textas, no matter what.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, And you know you brought this up
about the home game thing, and we went over the
twenty twenty five schedule for the Longhorns earlier in the
program this afternoon. But it does bear some repeating on
this and that. And I know some folks have grumbled
about said, wow, this home schedule is not so much. Listen,

(01:37):
it's gonna be what it's gonna be the next two years.
After twenty five, you're gonna have Ohio State at home,
and you're gonna have Michigan at home. Michigan maybe back
up and full throttle again by then. If you ask
Ohio State, people will say they were full throttle a
couple of weeks ago. They took care of business on that.
So you know, we'll find out, certainly. But you know that, yes,

(02:02):
San Jose State and UTEP is not gonna exactly jazz
you up that sort of thing, but you're going to have,
you know, some some teams at home. You're gonna have
to deal with the Aggies at home. You're gonna play
Arkansas at home. You're gonna have that. So, yeah, there's
there's something to that for twenty twenty five. But as
you point out this, I want to get Georgia. It's

(02:25):
kind of weird to say this, but I see where
you're going with it, that it's the quote unquote second
biggest home game of the season. Now, wait a minute,
it's a playoff. Playoff. Yeah, playoff. If you don't win,
the season's over. So that in itself should probably indicate

(02:45):
that it's the most important game. But I get what
you mean and what others would think as well, because
at the time, remember Texas was number one when they
we're playing Georgia and then fell off of the off
of the pedestal with Georgia's thirty to fifteen win back
on October nineteenth. And there are those who are saying that,

(03:07):
you know, maybe who knows, maybe down the road they
meet one more time. If they did, that would be
once more back in Atlanta Mercedes Benz Station Stadium. It
would once more be Texas and Georgia, and this time
it would be for a national championship if it happened.
But there's a lot of hay to go into the barn. First,
I don't know about you. Cam. Also the other thing,

(03:30):
what is quickly becoming I think one of the most
oft asked questions, not questions, one of the most off
repeated phrases that I've heard of the past five days.
And I quote this is the quote from talking to

(03:53):
lots of different long worn fans. The quote is I
like our path. That's I've heard that quite a bit.
If I'll be I'll be honest with you, if I
had a dollar for every time I heard somebody say
I like our path or I like the path, because
I've heard both, I like the path or I like
our path. In terms of Texas, if if if I

(04:16):
had a dollar for, I could probably get us like
lunch at Sonic or something or you know someplace you know,
who knows, maybe we'd see uh. But a lot of
long worn fans like it. But long worn fans, like
most fans of big college football programs, tend to get

(04:40):
a little cart before Horsey. There are games we played,
starting with this Clemson game, and then if you win that, yeah,
you got to go to Atlanta and a second time,
and you've got to beat an Arizona State team that
people have been counting out all season long, that was
picked to finish in dead last in the Big Twelve Conference,
and they he won the Big Twelve Conference. And they

(05:01):
have a talented quarterback in Sam Levitt, and they have
one of the best running backs in the nation. And
Cam Skataboo in fact, and I'm on record as saying this,
I get Travis Hunter. He's gonna win the Heisman Trophy.
He's gonna win. He was named the AP Player of
the Year today and he'll win other like water Camp
and other awards, probably today tonight at the College Football

(05:26):
Award Show. He'll do that. But I don't think he
was and I certainly don't think Shaduur Sanders was the
best offensive player in the Big Twelve this year. I
think it was Cam Skataboo, the running back, and he's
got the numbers to back it up, so they'd have
to deal with them. Yes, Texas has done well against
the run this year, but my point is that sometimes

(05:47):
folks get a little cart before Horsey on this kind
of thing. So you got to deal with those two
and then even after that, if you win those two games,
in all probability, you're in Jerry World. You're in Arlington
in the Cotton Bowl game in the semi finals. And oh,
by the way, it's Oregon number one team in the country,
the only unbeaten team left in college football if if

(06:09):
you handle your business in those first two games. So
things are far from a sure, but it is cool
that they're getting to participate in this twelve team playoff
for the first time. It is cool also that they
get to host a playoff game first time ever in
the twelve team field for in first time ever to
have home playoff games. So I think that's pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
For sure. It is And I think what Texas fans
and even the narrative from the media about having the
best path the College Football Playoff Championship is that you
avoid Oregon or Georgia in the second round. And I
think that's huge. Whether it's Arizona State or Boise State.
I think you'd rather play a Boise State than Arizona State.
But you still get Arizona State, who, for all the

(06:50):
reasons you mentioned Craig a good football team, but they're
not in the same level as Oregon or a Georgia
team that has beaten Texas twice. You know, Georgia just
appears to be the a Killes Seal for Texas, and
I'm sure they would love to see them one more
time in Atlanta. You know, it's hard to beat a
team twice, certainly hard to beat him three times in
one season. But for Texas, a Clemson team that I

(07:12):
think a lot of people don't believe they should be
in there now. They won their ACC championship, and a
lot of that has to do with, you know, Miami
falling apart in their secondary. But it's a Clemson team
that has struggled this season. But they do have Kaid Klebnick,
who's got the Austin ties. Of course, you have Ian
Reed who has the Austin ties. In Dabo Sweeney, he
understands the underdog narrative. And it's a Clemson team or

(07:34):
a Clemson program that is upset Alabama twice, right, and
they won of those games as underdog. So you know
DABA will be preaching the underdog sentiment. I mean, SMU
was favored I think over Clemson. I'm sure he went
with that underdog narrative and he'll be using it again
next week.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
Yeah. I agree with all of that, and it's a
good enough football team to beat you if you're not
on your game. Any of these teams that are in
the twelve team playoff, any of them are good enough
to beat any of the other teams. Look at Boise,
he State in Oregon. It was a three point game
in Eugene at the start. Any of these teams are
good enough to beat any other of the teams in

(08:13):
the field. Ohio State, Georgia, Oregon. No matter what you
say a notre dame, that these teams are all good
enough to beat one another if the other team is
not completely on its game. That's the point. That's the
point I'm making about this. Having said all that, I
understand and don't necessarily disagree. In fact, I don't disagree

(08:34):
with those who say they like the path that Texas has.
It's a workable path to get to the semifinals if
you handle your business and play as was right. And
I'm also curious to see how the guys kind of
heal up. You know, quin yours is not one hundred percent.
We know that hasn't been. And he's on the mend.

(08:55):
Having a bye week this week helps. He's on the
mend with the ankle and the over league. And then
you worry about Kevin Banks won the Lombardi last night.
Great for him. He's you know, he's working toward being ready.
I mean, he did go through warm ups before the
Georgia game and then they just deemed he could not go.
So one would imagine if he was good enough to

(09:17):
go through warmups probably two weeks later, that he might
be ready to roll. I would imagine he probably would
be ready to roll against Clemson. So we'll find out,
all right. Up next, we're going to hear the second
part of Rodney Terry's meeting with the media from yesterday
previewing tonight's matchup on the floor at Moody Center between

(09:39):
Texas and New Mexico State. So we'll hear more of
that coming up from RT, and we'll continue here in
this four o'clock hour. Of course, you can hear the
game six thirty airtimes seven o'clock tip off right here
on AM thirteen under the Zone, as well as on
ninety eight point one FMKVET, so it'll be on there
as well. So we'll bring that to you tonight. But

(10:01):
we'll hear more from Rodney Terry coming up next here
on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred Zone
