Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, I wanted to talk a little bit while we
had a chance, because this is the final weekend of
the regular season of high school football across the state
of Texas. The playoffs begin next week, and so the
final games on the regular season schedules are there, and
as we know, almost half it's not quite maybe about

(00:26):
thirty school shy almost half of those high schools across
the state of Texas playing football in the UIL system,
almost half will make the playoffs, which I've never had
a problem with it. You know, you're crowning twelve state
champions and so in six different divisions, So you're talking

(00:51):
about just over two hundred schools per classification, and so
it does I think pique the interest and give folks
on opportunity and hope for getting the players, much like
what baseball's done with a wild card, I think, and
even the college football playoff to a lesser extent, with
excitement of twelve going in, I think it's out of

(01:13):
like fifteen hundred, I think it's something like seven hundred
and twenty make it. Next week we'll talk playoffs, obviously
with Greg Tepper, the managing editor of Big Campbell's Texas
Football magazine. By the way, they've got a big bracket
reveal on tomorrow night. So Cam, if you're sitting back,
like you said, you're gonna watch some college football at
Texasfootball dot com, then Dave campbells Texas Football Magazine crew.

(01:37):
They're doing a bracket reveal show where they will have
the pairings and I think the days and the start
times or whatever of every playoff game from six A
down through six man in the UIL system, which is
pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
They'll have that. I can tell you this.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
There are a couple of games really to pay close
attention to tonight. First of all, congratulations to the Georgetown Eagles.
Chuck Griffin's ball club very impressive in a thirty one
to seven went over Cedar Park last night at Gupton
to win the eight to five A Division one district title.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
And they've they've had some.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Very impressive performances by the defense this year, and they
have had very impressive performances on the ground throughout the
course of the year. And that's from jet Walker. Jet
Walker whatever two hundred yards rushing last night, Cam, and
he's now over two thousand rushing yards this season, so

(02:48):
he's pretty good.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
I had my.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Uncle and my dad, who are Georgetown alumni, is sitting
me videos of him just tearing up that Cedar Park
defense last night.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Was he six two two fifteen?

Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yeah kids, Yeah, stud And congrats to the Eagles on
a good season. Now, we talked about it yesterday that
with a loss, Cedar Park may end up seeing Highland Park.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Well, it looks like it's not. It now looks like
it's not gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
It looks like I would say, now there's Highland Park
won that district title last night over mid Lothian and
seven to five Aby One. Tonight Burlason Centennial plays Joshua
in the Metroplex. I they win that game, where if
Tyler should lose to red Oak, which probably will happen,
either result would give Centennial the third slot, red Oak

(03:35):
would get the or we give Centennial the fourth slot.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Red Oak would get the third slot.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
Cedar Park is gonna wait for the outcome of these
other two games. Tonight, lake Belton is playing Colleen Chaparral
Belton should win.

Speaker 2 (03:48):
Lake Belton should win.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
That Rouse is playing Glenn, they could be a good
matchup on that Cedar Park does not have the tie
break on Lake Belton they do over rows. If Rawse
should lose to Glen and Lake Belton win, Lake Belton
would be the two seed and Cedar Park would fall
to the three seed, and Rowse would be the four. If, however,

(04:10):
Ralse wins and Lake Belton wins, there's a three way
tie for second in the points tiebreak, or Cedar Park
has a very slight edge of the other two. So
then what you would see is Cedar Park the two
seed play the three seed Red Oak.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
That's right, you'd have a battle of the trees.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Cedar Park Red Oak would be your by district matchup
if if it works out that way. Now again, well
we'll see how the other the other games play out.
Also in five A, we'll keep it in five A
for the moment. In five A Division two, well we
can tell you that what a huge game it is

(04:46):
tonight down at Bastrop Memorial Stadium, Bastrop and Liberty Hill
for the district title. On eleven five A D two
bo teams are six to zero in the district. Liberty
deals eight and one overall, bas drops seven and two.
Computer says it's a pick them. That's how close that
game is. Bas Drop in Liberty Hill.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
I don't know, Greg, I think Bashup can win this game.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Well, I know, I pick them, would suggest they could
win the.

Speaker 3 (05:09):
Gaah yeah yeah, And I'm right there with him. I
think they can go ahead and and and win it
against the It's what Greg Tepper says, the lot t
is the devil, right, you know. I think Bastrop with
their offense and they have a fantastic defensive line, and
think they can they can slow down this loot to
your rushing attack and possibly win a district. Tattle and

(05:31):
Jake Gridles just third season with the Bears.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Yeah, let me also say this, it might be foolhardy
to pick against Liberty Hill anytime.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
A district I'm sure.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
Yeah, I'm in the minority here, but okay, I havn't
seen both these schools play this season.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
I think I like Bastrup's chances. Okay, all right in
six a.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
Oh wait, there's one other game out of that district's
very important Conley against Flugerville. Win and you're in Can
we just have this conversation a year ago? We did
and it was the deal with a crazy fumble return
in overtime brought back for a touchdown. Was it Seth
Davis of CBS, his son was calling it the miracle

(06:13):
at the field or whatever it was the thing and
and UH brought back for the for.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
The game winner.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
So anyway, UH winner in loser out. It's as simple
as that. In UH in eleven to five a D
two Cogley against Flugegvill who ever wins that game is
in the playoffs. The other three Liberty Hill and Bastart
playing for a district title. Elgin is four and four
and two and they played in Navarro and assuming.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
They win that game, they lock up the third spot there.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Okay, so there's there's that N six A Westlake and
Dripping Springs. Now it's both teams are headed for the playoffs,
and they're also going to be headed for different brackets
as well. Westlake is going to wind up in the
Vision one bracket as the top seed. Lake Travis will
be the number two seed in that bracket.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
And for Drip, they're going to be the top seed
in the D two bracket. But it is for at
least a share of the district title of Dripping Springs
wins that game, otherwise Westlake wins it.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Out right, what does it mean for the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
This much we know right now Lake Travis will play
Round Rock in the playoffs. That's in the Division one bracket.
They will play Round Rock, So Lake Travis will play
Round Rock. We also know that Vandergriff will play Austin
High in the Division two bracket. Those matchups are definite.
In fact, the Vandergrift Games already said it's next Friday
night of Monroe Stadium. The rest of it's a little

(07:44):
bit jumbled because you don't know who the Division one
runner up rep Is going to be in District twenty five,
nor the Division two rep. Vandergrift is the top seed.
Round Rock's the top seed Division one, Vandergrift the top
seed Division two. Vista Ridge is in the playoffs, but
the Rangers don't know if they're D one or D two.
It comes down to the outcome of tonight's game at

(08:05):
the Palace. They're on Parmer, Huddo and McNeil. If Huddo wins,
Huddle goes D one as the runner up to Round
Rock and would play Westlake and by district. At that point,
Vista Ridge would be the runner up in D two
to Vandergriff and would face Dripping Springs now because this
to play them last year over there, and if Westlake

(08:28):
wins and drips the three seed, it would be a
game at Gupton in the by district round. That's what
would happen there. However, if McNeil wins, this Ridge goes
Division one and they play at Westlake next week and
McNeil would be the runner up in the D two bracket,
then they would play a Dripping Springs. So not only

(08:49):
are some playoff spots up for grabs, but also Division
one and Division two assignment based on the enrollment. So
there's some of the stuff that's at stake from high
school FOOTBA front. We'll be back to wrap up Hour
number two on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone
