Speaker 1 (00:00):
Why to have you with us on a Friday afternoon.
This was I don't know, the first week in two
or three where we were here all five days during
the week.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
And we'll be the last time for quite a bit.
It's a busy next couple of months, it is.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
And we're into the holiday season as well, so that
also alters the schedule a little bit. We will be
here Monday and Tuesday next week, and then I'll be
up in Arlington with the UIL State High School Football
Championships on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Cam will be here throughout

(00:44):
the rest of the week. Are you soloing or is
Zimble involved in this deal?

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Do we have this next week?

Speaker 2 (00:49):
I think Wednesday and Friday I'll be here. Thursday will
be the simile hours.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Okay, all right, all right, So that'll be happening next week.
And then, of course the long Horns played football a
week from tomorrow. Eight days away from kick always gets
a feeling like we're back in August to get eight
days a countdown the kickoff because there was this downtime
in between games and the log Worns have their college

(01:16):
football playoff contest at home at Daryl K. Royal Texas
Memorial Stadium against the Clemson Tigers. First ever meeting on
the football field between Clemson and Texas. In fact, it's
the first time I will have called any athletic contest

(01:36):
between Texas and Clemson. You think about that. Basketball hasn't
played them since I think nineteen ninety. It was a
couple of yearsfore I got on the broadcast. Women's basketball
has not met them. Baseball almost a couple of times
in OMF the College World Series, but it didn't happen,
and so I didn't. I haven't called a an athletic

(02:02):
encounter between Texas and Clemson. So that'll be and it'll
be their first time ever meeting on the football field,
and that will be next Saturday afternoon. Three o'clock is
the kickoff time or Coverage on AM thirteen Under the
Zone begins with Longhorne Game Day, Cameron Parker, Mike Hardball, Harge,

(02:23):
Mark Henry All out along Bevo Boulevard at the Windship
Circle there in the hook the hangout.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
You'll be back in your regular spot, right, yeah, we
will back in the winship circle. Food trucks, Big Bertha,
Bevo Boulevard, all that. Myself Hardball, Mark Henry, gonna have
some special guests on. It's gonna be fun. It's gonna
be a real fun show. First ever college football playoff
home game since its expansion, so it's gonna be a

(02:50):
fun day. Of course. You know, it begins Friday night
and then Saturday Texas plays, so it's gonna be quite
the atmosphere. I'm excited to see what DKR will be
like because I think for the first time this season,
I'll actually be in my seat for this game. I
have not been able to attend the Texas football home
game yet this year, not working, So I'm excited for that.

(03:10):
You've sat in the press box. You spotted for me.
What a couple of times you spotted for Westwood One?
So uh you were you were working? Yeah, I can
now get the heckle and you know, screaming for arts
to come in. You know, all to be a regular,
regular annoying Texas. Okay, you and your dad going? I

(03:31):
think so if you Portugal, I don't know, he may
just stay there. I mean I I have not heard
from this man at all, so I don't know what's
going on himself. He is, he is posting on Instagram.
So I know he's alive, but you know he's he's
living the single bachelor life in Portugal. All right, If

(03:52):
anyone's listening in Portugal, watch out for a white bald
man who's probably wearing some sort of Texas longhorning gear.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Right now.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
This guy, he's got a Onhoe shirt on for sure.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Well right now, right now, it would be about ten
o'clock at night there.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Yeah, so but who knows.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, a text message from our on our hotline, Craig,
when's the last December game in dk R? Do you
know for Texas football? Obviously on high school games because.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
Well yeah, but for Texas when they played Texas A
and M on Saturday. I want to say, is nineteen
ninety the Shock the Nation tour? That might have been
the first or second of December. I'm not one hundred
percent certain about that.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
But here was that nineteen December second, nineteen ninety five,
sixteen to six.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
That was in College Station.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
That was the final That was the final ever Southwest
Conference game played ever. That was when Ricky Williams went
for like one sixty four, James Brown had a severely
sprained ankle. They beat A and M to win the
final Southwest Conference title.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
That was December. That's the one.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
I'm that's when Mark Berry was the stop of the
goal line Texas beating A and M to win the
Southwest Conference title. Our good friend Brian Jones was on
that team that was the Shock the Nation tour. So
that's December first of ninety. Has there been a home
game in December since then?

Speaker 3 (05:24):
I don't think so. I don't. I don't. I don't
think the calendar.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
I mean, we you know, we just missed December by
one day this year on the deal since it's all
about how that calendar falls. So I don't. I don't
think there's been another one. I think December first of ninety.
I was in the studio that day. I was a
studio anchor from Ada through ninety one. That was Brad
Sham and Bill Schoning the call that day in nineteen ninety,

(05:49):
so I think that was the last time they that
they had that. Congratulations to Kelvin Banks and to Jade Baron.
Calvin Banks kind of finished the sweep of all the
offensive line awards or the Lightnman Awards. He won the Lombardi,
he won the Outlet, he won that other offensive Line Award.

(06:12):
So it was a clean sweep through all of that
for Calvin Banks. And so congratulations to Calvin for winning
all of those. Now, congratulations to Jade Baron and Jade

(06:33):
winning the Thorpe Award and the local sports cast all
had very similar themes.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
It was.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
I guess all the campaigning worked, and it almost made
it sound like Jade was doing the campaign. He didn't
do that. Somebody else created those T shirts that said,
you know, uh, Jada for Thorpe. You know that that thing.
He didn't start that. Somebody else started that. And his
secondary team mates like Michael Taff and Andrew mccooba and

(07:02):
others all were kind of carrying the banner for Ja
day and when he gave his thank you and you
really pegged it yesterday him when you said that that
college Football Award show has changed. Used to be a
big hoity twity banquet in Orlando. It's not like that anymore.
They were from the studio and then the the award

(07:22):
winners are in their hometowns. And some of that they
might have felt had to do with the postseason college
football season. I don't know, but both Kevin Banks and
Jady Baron were in town last name, and so it
was it was really cool that they got a chance

(07:46):
to celebrate that with their teammates. And Jada had Michael
Taff and Andrew mccooba behind him as he was talking to
I think it was Jen Lauda who was doing it
for ESPN part as he was talking to her about
what it meant to him, and I would say it,
you know, it is pretty special. And he becomes the

(08:11):
third ever University of Texas defensive back to win the
Thorpe Award. They had it back to back here as
in O five and six with Michael Huff and Aaron Ross,
and so he becomes the third ever Thorpe Award winner
and uh and a hometown kid at that. So that
was I mean because both Huff and Ross were from

(08:34):
different places. Huff was from Irving out of Irving, Nimens
and Ross was from John Tyler. Uh there in Tyler
out in East Texas. So this is the local kid
out of Conley High and it's and it's really cool.
And he had his five to one to two mates
there with him. Lecooba of course the LBJ product, and
Taff from Westlake and so that was that was really

(08:56):
good to see glad for Shade well earned well does
eerved as well? Uh? Travis Hunter won what three awards
last night? I think he won a blitn cough he won.
There were a couple of other awards he won.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
He won.

Speaker 1 (09:11):
Was it the Maxwell or did the Maxwell go in Maxwell?

Speaker 2 (09:16):
When went the genty?

Speaker 3 (09:17):
All right?

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Gent won the Doak Walker and he won another one
of those. Yeah, and maybe it's the water Camp that
I know that that.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Uh. Gent He won the Maxwell Award, Okay or conglash
Football's Top Player, and the Dope Walker Award yep. Came
Ward won the Dave O'Brien National Quarterback of the Year Award.
Okay Coach of the Year was Kurt Signetti Okay Indiana
South Carolina defensive van Kyle Kinnard won the Bronco in
the Kursky Trophy Okay Nation's top defensive player, yep. Ohio

(09:48):
State center of Seth McLoughlin won the Remington Trophy.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
Top Center.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Top Hunter was not Texas as Michael Kerr. It was
USC's Eddies check blikey Okay Ray Guy Award, I'm gonna
have to correct mean that one. The top placekicker Lou
Rose Award was Kenneth Almandaris from Louisiana.

Speaker 3 (10:11):
Okay, the Ragel Cagents Okay.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
JILLN. Walker won the Buckets Award as nation's best linebacker.
I agree with that one. Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. Tyler
Warren won the John mackew Award over Gunner Hill. Who
I think you know? Warren credible. He's going to draft
him in your fantasy league next year. Milroe won the
William V. Campbell Award as the Top Scholar Athlete.

Speaker 1 (10:31):
That's the one where Jake Majors was a finalist for it,
but Jaylen Milroe won it.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Bryce Boacher, Oregon leading tackler, won the Bowls with Trophy
as the best Player. I didn't know this award existed.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
Yeah, former walk on her current walk On.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
Michael taff was a finalist for Yeah, yeah, okay yeah.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
And then Travis Hunter.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
Let's see.

Speaker 2 (10:54):
Hunter won the EIGHTP College Football Player of the Year
award with Genti second in cam Scattaboy's second. He also
won the Walter camp Award Player of the Year, and
then the Chuck Bidnerick Award as the top defensive player
and and the Bolitnikov Award for Best wide Receiver.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Yeah, so he won four awards last night. He's going
to get the biggest one tomorrow night. I don't think
there's any doubt, you know. I read and heard a
lot of things from people. I saw it on social media.
Voters who openly admit, openly admit if they have a
vote for a position award as well as a national award,

(11:34):
they split their vote. They give the position award to
one player and that national award to another player. And
uh so, I you know, it's kind of weird really
if you say so and so is the best college
football player in the country, but he's not the best

(11:54):
at his position. Okay, So there were several people who
do that open a minute, they split their vote on that,
and and so it was, and it brought about a
great deal of debate and all that other kind of stuff.
And I think Travis Hunter is definitely gonna win the Heisman,
and I think Ashton Gent will be second, and uh

(12:20):
probably Dylan Gabriel be third, and Campboard fourth or other
way around something like that. Those are the four who
will be in New York for the Heisman tomorrow. You
know what tomorrow is cam other than Saturday, the fourteenth.
I do not know there's a football game tomorrow other
than uh oh, Army Navy.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
Yes, it is.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
So this was the game we talked about several weeks
ago when Army and Navy were both undefeated and said,
what would happen if both Navy an Army run the
table and they go undefeated and they play in the
American Conference championship game for US out in the college

(13:00):
football playoff, and then they play the regular season game
the next week, which would have no bearing on the
playoff because the playoff things had already been a well
that ended up not happening. So Army Navy means what
Army Navy means, they're gonna play. The only thing that's
unhappy unfortunate about this my son pointed this out to me.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
You know where they're playing tomorrow?

Speaker 2 (13:22):
Is it going to be where the Eagles play?

Speaker 1 (13:24):
That would be okay if it was, but it's not.
And they used to play it forever and ever at
what was old John F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium in Philadelphia
a whole one hundred thousand, and then they tore that
down when they built where Lincoln Financial Field is and
the arenas down there.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Uh So, then they moved it around.

Speaker 1 (13:43):
They played it at the Meadowlands, they played it in
Baltimore where the Ravens played. Now they're playing where the
Commanders play. Oh yeah, the old FedEx fil whatever it's called.
Now it's got a different name now. Yeah, they're playing
there tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
It's like the Akron Akron what is it called. Yeah, Oh,
it's Northwest State, that's it. That's the name of it. Yeah,
that's like an investment grovers of Northwest. Yeah, Northwestadium. Yeah,
that's where they're playing Army Navy tomorrow. It doesn't really
matter to those military guys'll go. They'll show up, yeah,
pasture and play it. But still it's kind of weird. Well,

(14:23):
that's a good idea on the pastor field.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
All right, Up next, some more college football, and we're
gonna hear from Longhornstead basketball coach.

Speaker 3 (14:33):
Rodney Terry following the Texas win last night.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
We'll do all that and Mormon Well continue on Sports
Radio AM thirteen under the Zone and the iHeartRadio app.
