Speaker 1 (00:00):
He speaking of Scotland, the birthplace of golf. There was
another golf note that I meant to get to and
did not get a chance to get to when we
were talking last segment. And that's the game. That's the
guy that were always seemingly you correct me if I'm.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
Wrong on this.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I know where you're going with this, and you're right.
Always seemingly he's a prodigal son. Yeah, rooting for and
the prodigal son. And yet you know, after the absolutely
fabulous start to his career, he's had no end of
slings and arrows. We speak of course of lifetime Longhorn
Jordan Speeth. He says he doesn't have any pain in
(00:46):
that surgically repaired left wrist that was in late August
when he did that, said the recovery's going to plan.
He went from a I hadn't heard this in golf before,
So you can help me out if I need a
limited did ball count to practice to no restriction? Does
that just mean not taking as many practice swings and
(01:07):
stuff as that?
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Yeah, So this sounds like you know, he probably instead
of hitting you know, maybe one hundred and fifty shots
on the range on Monday. Yeah, maybe it was fifty
something like that. So it's a it's an injury that
impacted him last season because a year ago at the
Hero World Challenge he finished second the Scottie Scheffler, and
of course he you know, he's been all right at
and then he comes to Kapalua in Hawaii. I think
(01:30):
he finished second or third, was in the hunt, played
very well at the Waste Management, and it was playing
great at Riviera. It was probably the best start to
a season for him in a couple of years. But
then the injury began to flare up, and there was
a couple of tournaments this past season where he thought
he was going to have to withdraw because the pain
was so substantial and basically he was driving the ball.
(01:54):
It's the best season with him the driver, but anything
where we had to make contact with the ground so
iron shot short game. You noticed. It was one of
the worst seasons in terms of strokes gain, and that's
because you know, mentally and the pain of him making
contact with the ground was not the same ball striker.
So he realized that the last season in the fext
Cup playoffs, like, I got to fix this.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
It's the only way.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
So he oughted for the surgery, and good to hear
he's pain free because that's what was holding him back
to this past season. We'll see, but I feel optimistic.
I feel very optimistic, he said, and here was the quote.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
It feels good.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
None of the shots, you know, I don't really have
any problems with it, no pain, no nothing. So now
it's kind of just taking care of it, continuing to
do therapy probably through the new year, and just be
prepared to go start playing some golf and be prepared
to play three weeks in a row.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
I guess the grind is what you're talking about. He didn't.
He didn't give an indication when he might be back though. Yeah,
I didn't say that.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
I because usually you know, he would play in Kapalua
and then would come back. He's not a part. He
didn't make the cut to be a part of the
the I don't know what they call it now, the
Sony Open, maybe something different. So I guess is.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
You're talking about the one in Hawaii of the area.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
It used to be the tournament where the champions would
winning it. Now it's like top fifty in the the
next cup. He's on invite to that because he didn't
finish top fifty or top thirty or whatever. My guess
is his first tournament back will probably be the Waste Management. Okay,
maybe he'll play over the La Kinta over in California.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Yep, yep. By the way, who is Colt.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Nast cult Ghost played at SMU, former PJ golfer. Now
he is on the CBS telecast. He is the Dottie
Pepper for CBS Golf, and he hosts a PJ Tour
series x SIM show with I forget who who the
other guy is?
Speaker 2 (03:42):
But so that's where he did the interview with Colt Ghost.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Okay, it sounded vaguely familiar, but I couldn't remember. I
couldn't place him.
Speaker 2 (03:50):
Yeah, short white balld guy. He's opposed to you, a
tall white ball guy.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
He's a little bit more stocky.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
You know. I don't think I'm stocky.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
No, No, you're You're properly proportioned. The all right, So
I've heard you mention Kapalua twice.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
Oh yeah, thinking about today actually really all.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Right, So you've never played it because you haven't been right, Okay,
So I would say if if you know the Good
Lord smiles down on both of us, and we're still
around and doing our regular jobs. And the long Worn
basketball team goes to Mali next year. Well we should
try to play I've played it. I played it, played me.
(04:31):
I did it with Bill Shooning. That's the time when
we were playing the Plantation course. That's the you know,
the the Crenshaw course, and that's the one where you know,
I've got this bad slice and we get we get
up on the thing and it's a down. It's a
dog leg to the left and and so I'm aiming
way left to bend it back and sometimes that works
(04:53):
and sometimes it and I think it came off the
toe or something and searing down it was good distance
on it away slice.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
Rice and I just kind of tossed the club sound.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
I was like, oh, come on, Ben, and Shony goes Ben,
what are you getting mad at him for?
Speaker 2 (05:09):
And I said, well he laid out the course. He
could have put the fairway over there. Said no, he
can't the oceans over there. So uh. But we had
a good time.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
We were playing Kapallui. It was it's good. It's it's
a beautiful golf course. There's there's no doubt about it.
All right, we'll be back to wrap up today's program
