Speaker 1 (00:00):
We hope to help you get over the hump for
some others. And we always say this Wednesday might be Monday,
or it might be Friday, whatever it might be, We're
glad to have you with us. Welcome to the program
this afternoon here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
My name is Craig Way. Glad to have you with us.
US today has a different designation. If you were listening

(00:24):
to the program yesterday, you heard the erstwhile producer of
this radio program, Cameron Parker, detail a most unfortunate thing
that happened to him. I believe on Monday evening he
was lifting weights and either put too much on the
bar and didn't have someone to spot him, or just

(00:48):
did something wrong while weightlifting. As a result of that,
it has incapacitated him. It has actually debilitated him to
the point where and I'll tell you the story of
just how debilitating it was for him coming up and
inconceivable because it kind of belongs in there. But the

(01:09):
bottom line isn't I'm making fun of him. I hope
he's gonna be getting better. That the doctors are on
my He's not here today, and hopefully he'll be able
to return tomorrow. A reminder, I'm going to be out
tomorrow and Friday, this being the open date week. You've
got some personal things that I'll be taking care of,
and Linda and I will be heading up to the

(01:29):
Dallas Forward Metroplex as well for the weekend. So I'll
be out tomorrow and Friday, but hopefully Cam will be
back tomorrow and also Andrew Zimma will be checking in
also with him tomorrow and Friday. In the meantime, speaking
of firstwhile our guy behind the counter today, if you will,

(01:51):
on the board, is the talented producer of the Morning Kickoff,
which you hear each and every weekday morning mon Day
through Friday, seven am to nine am here on Sports
Medio AM thirteen hundred the Zone. He is the eyes
and ears and the production value that brings you my

(02:13):
cardball hard and the world's Strongest Man, Mark Henry. But
it's Khalil Randall who's the secret sauce to the whole deal.
It's good to have you with us going. We do
get comfortable with that microphone there like you do with
those guys. You don't think I was gonna waste your
vocal talents today. While you're stepping in, did you. I
did not think I would be speaking today. No, you're
going to be speaking. You're going to be speaking. I'm

(02:34):
glad to have you with it now. First of all,
because I did several years of work in morning drive,
so I know that the kind of toll that can
take on a body. How are you feeling right now?
You're holding up all right? I'm holding up all right.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
I have some days where I just randomly pass out
in the middle of the day, and then there are
other days where I can just wake up about four
and then go to sleep at you know, midnight, and
I'm just fine and you're good to go. Today is
one of those days.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah. See, that's because you're young. He still kind of
think it doesn't hit you like a ton of bricks.
So that's good. I'm glad to have you. Thank you
for stepping in today because you know it was tough
on Cam. Hopefully he'll be able to turn things around.
Here's what's going on that we're gonna tell you about.
Coming up with a few minutes. We're gonna be joined
by a gentleman who was on with you guys yesterday morning,

(03:19):
Bob Ibock and He's got a pretty unique offer, does
he not? It does.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
It's actually very very interesting, very incredible, and I think
you should definitely tune into.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
The next segment if you want to find know what
it is. Okay, all right, this is a guy I've
known for a long time when I was here doing
my first tour of duty with iHeart, even when it
was called Clear Channel Radio before it was iHeart, even
when it was something before iHeart. Clear Channel purchased it
all the way back to the Butler broadcasting days of

(03:51):
nineteen ninety seven, my first year work. In the first
go around from ninety seven through twenty sixteen, nineteen years,
I had this on several times because he deals in collectibles,
and they're very unique collectibles and they're really marketed toward
specific fan bases. I still have a basketball, one of

(04:16):
the collective collective basketballs from when the Dallas Mavericks won
the NBA title in twenty eleven. Oh wow, through Bob
Eyeback and this group Nico Sports. So we'll hear from
him coming because this will specifically appeal to long corn
football fans. All right, So there's that the Wildcard series
continue today. Houston Astros raise some eyebrows by virtue of

(04:41):
their loss yesterday, as they fell yesterday to the Detroit
Tigers in game one of that wildcards here, So they
have to win the day or the season ends. And
if they do win the day, there'll be one more game,
all right now, I can tell you it's scoreless in
the bottom of the second inning in Game two. Will
keep you updated on that one. Also Game two, Kansas
City and Baltimore playing at Oriel Park at Camden Yards.

(05:04):
KC won Game three. Of the four teams on the
road won yesterday. Detroit beat Astars three to one. Kansas
City beat Baltimore. On the road won nothing. Bobby Witt
Junior had the key hit at RBI single in the
sixth inning, and the Royals bullpen made it stand up.
The New York Mets, who spotted Milwaukee a couple of leads,

(05:27):
had a huge seventh inning and came all over sixth
inning and came all the way back and won the
ball game. The brewer of the Mets beat the Brewers
eight to four, so the Mets winning in Milwaukee. Now,
last night business was usual. San Diego Padres, who might
be the most dangerous team in all of Baseball shot
out the Atlanta Breys four to nothing, so they were
the only home team to win yesterday, so they're up

(05:49):
one game to none. Game two of their series is tonight,
so all of these game twos are being played. The
thing about the Wildcards series is you have three games.
It's the best of three series. If it goes three games,
but they play all back to back to back, there's
no travel. It's at one ballpark in this case, in

(06:10):
the case of Houston, all three games. If it gets
to three, we'll be at minu at May Park. Same
thing in Baltimore, same thing in Milwaukee, and the same
thing as well in San Diego. Then when you get
to the Division series this weekend, it gets to a
best of five where it's two games, the first two
games at the higher seeded team, and then it could
be as many as two games at the lower seeded team,

(06:32):
and if there's a fifth, if necessary game, it'd be
back at the higher seeded team. You have that, then
the NLCS and the ALCS those are best of seven series,
and then of course the World Series, which is best
of seven. So that's how that goes. We'll keep you
updated on that. We'll also hear from log Horn's hit
football coach Steve sarkisha, Yes, it's a bye week. Yes,

(06:53):
his only local media availability was on Monday, the press
conference that we brought TOILL Live and of course Hardball
Mike card jed I are down there along with Cameron
Parker down there. Khalil is running it all back here
and we bring you Sark's news conference every Monday morning

(07:13):
at eleven thirty is part of our LONGRRNE Monday presentation.
We begin our coverage at eleven and then the press
conference starts at eleven thirty. And this week, because it's
an open date on the schedule, the bye week on
the schedule, it's the only local media availability for Sark.
There will be no local Thursday zoom media availability like
he normally does. However, however, Wednesday is SEC teleconference day.

(07:38):
So Sark, even on a bye week, participated that we
have some audio for that, so so we'll bring that
to you. So we've got that all right. So those
are the things there with that, and we'll here's some
more from Rodney Terry, long worn men's basketball coach. We'll
hear from him as well on what's going on with
Texas basketball. There was a media availability yesterday. We've got
to bring you some of the sound from that, so

(07:58):
we'll do that as well. So lot to get to.
But up next, Bob Iyback joins us and he'll visit
with us. We'll do that when we continue here on
Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone and where you
always listen to us for free on the iHeartRadio app. See,
this is a yachtwart Rock Wednesday. So we play some
yacht rock tunes because I'm old enough to be into
the yacht rock genre. Our next guest might be able

(08:22):
to qualify for yacht rock status as well. I know this.
He qualifies for being a great source of information on
sports and collectibles. These are good friend by bye Back,
who joins us from Nico Sports, joins us on the
hotline right now. Bob, it's great to hear from you again.
How are you.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
I am doing great, Craig, It's always nice to be
with you. We go back a long way. I guess
we are oldies, but goldies, right.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
Yeah, that's a good way. That's a good way to
describe it. I was telling Khalil in the first segment
of the show. I said, you and I do go
back quite a bit. We've known each other for several years,
and I said, I still have that collectible basketball that
your group had when the Mavericks won the NBA title

(09:08):
in twenty eleven. That white panel on one side of
it was really cool. No, I remember that. Yep, I
still have that as a Mavericks fan. So I should
have gotten in touch with of course it was during
the pandemic. I should have gotten in touch with it
when the Dodgers won the World Series in twenty twenty,
because I'm a to the death Dodger fan. But I
but it's funny because I know we have a lot

(09:30):
of Astra fans in this town and they're on pins
and needles today because the Astros are down a game
and it's scoreless right now on the top of the
third in Game two with Detroit. But tell folks a
little bit about how you do what you do, because
I think it's really fascinating the way that you can
connect with the sports fans of specific teams with these

(09:52):
really unique collectibles.

Speaker 3 (09:54):
Well, you know, it goes back to my years when
I was with the Chicago Cubs in the nineteen eighties.
I was brought to Chicago by Dallas Green, the general manager.
I knew Dallas when I was a sports editor in Philadelphia,
and when they won the World Series in nineteen eighty,
he brought me in as one of his assistants and
I got involved. I member in spring training with the

(10:16):
Make a Wish Foundation and we were granting They were
just starting off granting wishes to kids who had life
threatening medical conditions. And got involved in fundraising with them.
And then many many years later, after my career with
the Cubs, I went with Kemper Sports. Ran in their
sports division for about seven years, the Maui Invitational out

(10:36):
in Hawaii and some other things. I continued to do
a lot of charnable work, and when I ran into
the folks at Nico Sports it was nineteen ninety six,
I put together a program for them. They were a
client of mine at the time, and they've raised gosh,
just in the last six years three point two million dollars.

Speaker 1 (10:58):
For a number of charities.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
And what I'll be talking about today is something that's
going to help out the neighborhood Long Oornge program because
we've got a fascinating football for Long Orange fans, and
you're going to want to grab piece of paper, pan
whatever you want to joss up and down. I've got
a phone number on a website i'll give out in
a few moments, Craig about this amazing one hundredth anniversary

(11:23):
football that salutes Daryl Kay Royal, Texas, Memorial State and
one hundredth anniversary. It'll have a beautiful color panoramic image
on one of the panels of the ball, which will
keep a pristine looking for years to come because everything
is embossed on here won't fade, and only twenty and
twenty four of these footballs will ever be produced. It's

(11:45):
going to raise money, as I mentioned for that neighborhood
long Orange program. There are one hundred and nineteen dollars
ninety five cents each and they are selling very quickly.
You'll get an individually numbered certificate of authenticity and it's
full size, it's fully licensed, and it's also got some
really cool panels on there. I'll just kind of describe

(12:07):
that before I give out that phone number. The top
panel has got the hundredth anniversary logo, stadium History, Championship History.
The second panel right below that salutes the SEC season,
the very first one for the Longhorns this year. They
got off to a good start and beat Mississippi State
in their first SEC game this past weekend. I've got

(12:28):
the Texas helmet logo there, and then we list all
the teams in the SEC right there on the side
of that panel. The last panel is really my This
is the one that people are going to say, Wow,
I got to get this football because it's got a
full color panoramic image of Daryl K. Royal Texas Memorial
State in there, taken on a sun drenched afternoon about

(12:50):
two years ago helicopter aerial shot, and it stretches from
the left to the right on that panel. And if
you've never been to the stadium where you've been there
many times times, this is something that you can showcase
to your friends and family members and keep. Because it's
in my sports background and covering so many games, it's

(13:10):
certainly among the top five stadiums that I've visited over
the years when I was a sports rutter and of
course a broadcaster. If you'd like to go ahead and
get this football, get only twenty and twenty four be made.
We're probably bordering in on halfway sold out. I would
not wait because you can get your Christmas shop and
done and for gifts and for the for the holiday season.

(13:34):
These will be set to you plenty of time to
get them before Thanksgiving. The toll free number again it's
it's one night, one hundred and nineteen dollars and ninety
five cents will snag you one of these footballs. Toll
free number is eight hundred three four five two eight
six eight eight hundred three four five twenty eight sixty eight.

(13:54):
Or go right to the website nicosports dot com, niksports
dot com. That's nikcosports dot com or eight hundred three
four five twenty eight sixty eight. I've got I'll tell
you what we could be talking in January during the

(14:14):
football playoffs because I don't see Longhorns. They got a
couple of tough games on their schedule, but Oklahoma course
coming up in Georgia and then that last game of
the season with Texas A and M. I think that
that may be the game that keeps them from either
being unbeaten or a one loss team, because I think
they can beat both Oklahoma and Georgia.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see. Just for me to
add to this, what folks are what you just described
on the one panel. And for anybody that's been to
a Longhorn home game this year, you've seen on the
field that one hundredth anniversary logo that's on the field
at the twenty yard line. That's what it is on
one side, and the SEC logo on the other side.

(14:58):
So if you're wondering about the one hundredth logo, it's
really cool. The DKR logo there with the one hundred
that exact logo is replicated on the football what you
see on the fields, and then like you mentioned, on
the other side, the panoramic shot. Just looking at the
photo of it is just absolutely tremendous. And I remember,

(15:18):
you know the years that you've done these, and you've
done commemorative football and basketballs and baseballs for championship winning
teams and things like that. It's always creative. This might
be the most creative enterprise I've seen you do with
the football. To see that panoramic photo of the ball,
panoramic photo of the stadium on the ball.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Yeah. Well, you know, the owner of the Nico Sports,
Craig Midner, and he and his wife started the organization
back in nineteen ninety two. And Craig does a great
job in getting all the artworks together and being all
the creative that they put a lot of background and
foresight into making these.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
I mean people who have owned.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
Some these pieces of sports memorabilia, whether they be special
baseball bats or as you mentioned, championship basketballs and footballs.
There's a lot of the time and effort that goes
into making these. Uh, they just don't happen. And NICO
Sports is always very careful in making sure that everything
is officially licensed, approved, the artwork is correct. They take

(16:23):
a lot of time and effort to make these and
people have called up years later, like you said, and
they've had a basketball or a football that they bought
ten years ago and it's it looks just like they
popped it out of the case today.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Yep, yep. That's that's how mine looked from twenty to
eleven for that Mavericks championship. And again the for folks
who are interested in it, they can call eight hundred
and three four five two eight six eight. That's eight
hundred three four five two eight six eight, or go
to nicosports dot com nik coo nco sports dot com.

(16:58):
While I got you on the phone because I know
of the many years you put in the baseball First
of all, you'll have to forgive me if I've already
asked you this question. Did you get to know and
work alongside my colleague and baseball broadcast partner Keith Morland
when you were with the gab Oh Zonk?

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Yeah. I played a lot of racquetball games with Zok too,
when we went on the caravan in the middle of
the winter to entertain at five o'clock in the morning.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
Yeah, I'll tell you the redhead once. Once he got
them over going. Nobody could go from first to third
base like Zonk because Keith was just a brilliant, hard nose,
blue collar baseball player, and we couldn't have got it done.
In nineteen eighty four we won the National League East.

(17:46):
We had ninety six wins that year. He was a
big part of that season. We just had our eighty
four reunion the fortieth anniversary. Keith, I believe, was overseas.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
At the time and couldn't make it, but we.

Speaker 3 (18:00):
Had everybody back and we just had a great time.
It was the same weekend that Ryan Samberg got inducted
into the Cubs Hall of Fame, and he had a
statue presentation down at Wrigley fieldback in June, but we
missed ZNK And I know I was talking to Bobby
Janier and some of the other guys that were his
teammates and Rick Suckcliffe and they really missed not singing song.

(18:23):
So I hope he's doing well. I haven't talked to
him in a while, but he was one of my
favorite guys. Just a down the earth person, hard nosed guy.
And this is a he left everything out on the field.
He never gave it a bat up, and he never
was afraid to go ahead and not die for a
ball in the outfield.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
Yeah, that's still him, and yeah he's a valuable part
of our broadcast team. He'll actually step in And I
know you know this about him. When he came to
the University of Texas in nineteen seventy one seventy two,
when he came in there, he came in on a
football scholarship, Yes he did. He was a He was
a defensive back for coach Royal for two years and

(19:03):
then he went to baseball. As he'd liked to say,
he never calls Cliff Gustus and a dime in scholarship
money because he was on football scholarship. But then, of
course was an All American his last couple of years,
and for many years was the all time career hits
leader at the College World Series. And uh, but what
was my color analyst on the Long War and football

(19:25):
broadcasts for for nine years because he knows his football really,
really well. Then of course went back over the Cubs
and worked with him for three years, moved back to
Austin and still fills in for US on football. In fact,
he's going to fill in on both the Arkansas and
A and M broadcasts for US this year. So we're
looking well.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
I got to tell you two quick little things about
keithon real quick that at our anniversary, the forty anniversary,
we always talked about key points in that season, and
one of the ones that always stood out in my
mind was late actually was the beginning of August. We
had to beat the Mets four straight games, and I
think it was either in the second or the third game,

(20:02):
Keith got brushed back and a pitch by Mets pitcher
ed Lynch, and at that time everybody was talking to
the Cubs go to fade again, like they did in
the sixty nine and everything else. Keith went right to
the mound and Rode blocked ed Lynch and he didn't.
He faked him up high and hit him low. Down

(20:23):
went Lynch and down went the Mets. They never recovered
from that moment. And that was the That was the
big I think the turning point in our season. The
other thing is, and I don't know if Keith will
tell you this or not, I was doing a show
called cub fan Mania that we did from a local
restaurant and I brought in Keith as my guest host

(20:48):
and that was his start in broadcasting.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Wow, did not know.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
You tell Zonki he still ows me some money from
those days getting them launched in his career because he
would come into the restaurant and he was just learning
the ropes of being a broadcaster. And you know what,
he came and within within two or three times of
being on the air, he was a.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
Natural, no doubt. And we always enjoy enjoy working with
him and having the opportunity. That's great stuff. Again, Uh
bye bye, Back with Nico Sports on with us here
and again if you're interested in that special commemorative one
hundredth anniversary of dk R Texas Memorial Stadium football that
has the commemorative first season in the SEC logo and

(21:33):
all the schools in the SEC also on the white panel,
and that panoramic shot of dk R Texas Memorial Stadium
on the football. It's all there available. Go to nicosports
dot com n ikco nicosports dot com where you can
get McCall at eight hundred three four five two eight
six eight. That's eight hundred three four five to eight

(21:54):
six eight. Bob is always great to visit with you.
I have a feeling, yeah, maybe maybe if the log
worns h roll through and winter national title, maybe we're
visiting again in late January, end of February about a
commemorative National Championship football.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
Well, I'm sure they'll be. If they're not going to
be in the top four. I think they're what ranked
number two now, but I think if they're gonna be
if it won't be in the top four, they certainly
will be in the top six or seven. So they'll
be in the playoff for sure, and they'll have a
good time in the SEC. They'll get they'll get battle
trained by you know, playing playing Georgia and some teams

(22:29):
like that, and of course Texas A and M at
the end of the year, so I think they'll be
there in the hunt. Certainly I'm gonna predict at least
be in the semifinals. If not in the final game.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Well, we'll certainly hope that. Bob, it's always great a
visit with you. I appreciate the opportunity to catch up
with you, and great stuff about Keith Morland as well,
and I'll pass that along to Zong. I appreciate you
taking the time and look forward to visiting with you
again down the road.

Speaker 3 (22:52):
Well, Craig, it's it's been a pleasure being with you.
Give my best to Keith and give my phone number two.
And I'd love to itch up with Zokis. He was
always one of my favorites in the nine years I
was with the organization, and certainly I have fond memories
of him playing on our team, especially in nineteen eighty four.

Speaker 1 (23:11):
No doubt I'll be sure to do it. Thank you, Bob,
thanks for joining us. Okay, Craig, have a good day
you too. That is Bob iyback from Nico Sports and again,
uh the number if you're interested in ordering one of
those footballs and again neighborhood Longhorns benefiting from it as well.
Eight hundred three four five two eight six eight. That's
eight hundred three four five two eight six eight and

(23:31):
it's nicosports dot Com in ik coo up next, Inconceivable
for a Wednesday afternoon on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
zone of the iHeartRadio app Inconceivable, inconceivable, inconceivable and give
you in that far. I don't think of miss what
do you think of, miss Ah? What does inconceivable mean

(23:52):
on a Wednesday afternoon? Well, Khalul Rendall's about to find out,
you know, because this is his you know, his first
go around in dealing with inconceivable. We always start off,
if we've got it, Khalil, with a fast food or
junk food up there? Are you much of a fast
food eat or a junk food eat? Do you do
much of that?

Speaker 3 (24:12):
No?

Speaker 1 (24:12):
Not really good for you. Those of us who are
hopelessly trapped in that world sometimes come back. But let
me ask you this. We ever a fan of SpongeBob
square Pants, I love it one of my really shows.
Then you need to know that Wendy's is coming out
with a Krabby Patty. Really Yeah, it's called the Krabby

(24:34):
Patty Collab and it starts next Monday, is what it'll be.
And for those who wanted to know, you know, the
Krabby Patty, what's the name of the place where where
SpongeBob would get a Krabby Patty, The Crusty krab the
krusty krab. See, I knew, I knew you would know that. Okay.
So they announced that they're partnering with Paramount to celebrate

(24:55):
the twenty fifth anniversary of SpongeBob Wow by launching the
Krabby patt Collab. Wendy's is So. This collab features two
menu items that will be available at whin they'se Restaurants
nationwide for a limited time. They have the Pineapple under
the Sea Frosty. Okay that sounds good. Yeah, it's a
vanilla frosty with a pineapple apple mango flavored pure swirl,

(25:19):
a first of its kind frosty flavor innovation. And then
they have the Crabby Patty Collab Burger. It's the take
on the famous burger in SpongeBob has a quarter poud
of beef, two slices of cheese, let us tomato, pickle
onion in a top secret crabby collab sauce on a
toasted bun begins next Tuesday. Okay, I'm excited about that,

(25:42):
all right. So even a person that's not so much
into the fast food you might be tempted to try
it out then, is what you're saying? Yes, okay, do
you like ice cream? I like frozen yogurt? Okay, learning
more about you is the day goes on here. Ghalil
Ben and Jerry's is one of the famous ice cream

(26:04):
companies the country. In fact, I did a tour of
their ice cream plant in Vermont back many many years ago.
But they're bringing back a flavor on October tenth, ten ten.
And the reason for that and the flavors, they're pumpkin cheesecake. Okay,

(26:25):
they're pumpkin cheesecake ice cream. And so it's got this
creamy frozen treat maybe with a thick gram crackers swirl
sixteen ounce pipe. They'll bring it out and they bring
it back in the fall. So they're bringing it back
next week on the tenth because it was rated a

(26:46):
ten out of ten on back in the day as
being that good in ice cream those of us who
are not in the pumpkin, eh, not so much. I
like chunky Monkey, you know, the banana verything like that. Yeah, yeah,
that's good. The cherries Garcia after Jerry Garcia. There's different
ones that I like. But you know anyway, that one's
coming next week. Okay, this is this is a nice gesture.

(27:14):
There are a lot of us who go through a
lot of headaches with air travel. Do you fly, munch,
I do not, Actually can't stand flying right now? Right well, well,
I understand that United Airlines passengers were pretty upset. This
happened a few days ago and it was going from

(27:37):
Houston to San Francisco, and they had some issues because
a Navy man had passed out and collapsed in the bathroom.
Prompted the pilot to ask if they're any medical professionals
on board to help, before announcing the plane would have
to land to seek help. So they landed in New Mexico.

(27:58):
All right, So they landed emergency stop in Albuquerque. Medical event,
they get him off the plane, but then they couldn't
take off again. All the passengers were asked to disembark
from the aircraft. They waited for a new flight crew
to ride because the other flight crew was out hours.
So this brought about a long, long delay one hundred

(28:19):
and fifty passengers, so they're really upset. So now it
gets in the nighttime. Passengers were eventually given fifteen dollar
food vouchers, but one of the passengers said, all the
airport restaurants were shut down. They were closed by that. Wow.
So the pilot who had to navigate the emergency landing
saw what was happening. So what did he do. He

(28:41):
ordered dozens, well thirty total pizzas from a local pizza
shop and had it delivered, and he went and hand
delivered these pizzas and gave out slices of pizzas to
the passengers. That's nice, pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
I would appreciate that because I know in a situation
like that, I would be frustrated. I mean, fifteen dollars
voucher for food in the airport, it might get you
a back of chips.

Speaker 3 (29:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
And then and then, like I said, they were all
closed anyway, so you can't get anything anyway. Thank goodness
he did that. Let's get caught up on all the
tropical storm stuff because it's it's kind of scary obviously
with the tragic stuff that happened with Hurricane Helene. They're
going to be cleaning up for a while in my
home state of North Carolina, in the western part of

(29:25):
the state, especially up in the mountains. So they have
been tracking three other storms in the Tropics free Fortunately
right now the most dangerous of these Kirk, which is
a Category two hurricane and could reach Cap four status.

(29:47):
It's starting to curve north in the Atlantic and not
go out into the Gulf and not and even east
of Bermuda what he calls him that. So here's this
churning storm that is going on in the Atlanta in
the Atlantic, and they said it could wind up being

(30:08):
one of the most powerful storms ever. But it's just
hanging out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, so
unless you're flying or on a boat going across there,
you're probably not going to encounter it. And then by
the time it reaches the real cold water when you
get up north, it'll decompress after that. But they're watching that.
There's another storm directly behind that, but they think it's
just gonna, you know, follow the other one. It's going

(30:30):
to trail the hurricane Kirk. And then there's a third
one that is in the Gulf, but it's not really
well formed yet. It's not a well formed tropical it's
not even really a tropical depression right now. It doesn't
have a name on it yet. They said it's pretty
unorganized and they're hoping that that'll stay out of the area.

(30:53):
So that's that's good to know there, especially as the
folks are cleaning up from the in the aftermath of
Hurricane Helene. Okay, things, Are you a collector of things?

Speaker 4 (31:04):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (31:05):
Yes, I collect what do you collect? Manga? Basketball cards,
football cards? Okay? And pens from where places I visit?
All right, So you would be interested in collecting a
medallion then? Right?

Speaker 3 (31:18):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (31:18):
Yes, would you be interested in collecting a medallion that
contains the original mold from the discovery of penicillin? Actually? Yes? Okay?
This happened in nineteen thirty was when doctor Alexander fleming
A nineteen twenty eight discovered penicillin when he accidentally left
a stack of staff cultures next to an open window

(31:41):
while on vacation. He comes back from vacation, the cultures
were contaminated by an airborne mold, and before disposing of
the cultures, he noticed that the mold had prevented normal
growth by the staff, so he was able to create
the medallion is a gift for his niece and inscribed
it with the message the mold that made penicillin Alexander Fleming.

(32:05):
So this medallion contains a specimen of the original penicillin
mold on blotting paper, mounted with a glass disc held
in place by a black plastic rim two inch in
diameter thing. So where can I buy this? Well, it's
going to go on auction online auction and it'll start

(32:26):
next week. Entry bid is thirty thousand dollars. Okay, so
it might be a little outpriced for you there, a
little bit, all right, It could go anyway, thirty to
fifty thousand dollars for mold. Who right, all right, there's
our heart inconceivable For Wednesday, we'll be back to wrap

(32:48):
up a hour number one on sports radio AM thirteen
under the Zone. Had a few hits, a few the
keyword there, this was probably his biggest one there. I
just want to stop. And Khalil was taken by the
fact when he pulled up the music about the amount
of hair that Gino Videlli was sporting so much.

Speaker 2 (33:08):
I don't, folks, you can't see this picture like I had.
I've had a big afro before. I've had a lot
of hair before. But man, not like that, not like that.
It's the front, top, sides back, and it's just incredible.
It almost looks like those like Mount Rushmore wigs, like
two of those.

Speaker 1 (33:27):
See. You have to understand that the seventies and eighties
were big hair times, you know, I see it was
a big hair time.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
He's a small guy, yeah, so it's like a third
of his body.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
Yeah. Yeah, it's a lot of hair. A lot of
hair also from some of the other bands that we'll
hear from coming up with the with the yacht rock thing.
Just updating you on the Astros and the Tigers as
they play game two right now, and that contest is
in the bottom of the fifth inning and no score
between Houston and Detroit. They're going to the bottom of

(33:59):
the right now at minute made park, all right, So
we're coming up on the top of the hour and
coming up on the top of the hour, and that's
gonna lead us in the general direction of hour number two.
And in the second hour we're going to hear from Longgrns,

(34:24):
hit Football, coach Steve Sarkasian. We'll do that. We'll keep
you updated on what's going on with the baseball playoffs,
because the second game of the four to be played
today is about to get underway in Baltimore, where the
Orioles host the Kansas City Royals. And Royals one nothing yesterday,
so they're up one game to none, so Baltimore, like Houston,

(34:46):
in a must win situation. Later this afternoon, Milwaukee will
host the New York Mets in Game two. Mets one
game one. They're at American Family Field there in Cheese Land,
so the Brewers have to win to keep that going.
And then tonight's Game two in San Diego between the
pod Rais and the Braves in San Diego up one

(35:07):
game the nine after shutting out Atlanta last night, four nothing.
But stay with us our number two of the program
coming up right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
The Zone.

Speaker 5 (35:44):
It's the Morning Kickoff Show with Mike Hartballharsh and Mark
Henridy weekdays from seven to nine am only on Sports
Radio AY. I'm thirteen hundred the Zone.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
From the Audio Visual Consultation Studio.

Speaker 5 (35:56):
This is kd E T A m Austin AM thirteen
hundred The Zone. Listen on the free iHeartRadio WAF for
all your sports podcasts and music. He's a Texas legend,
a Hall of Fame broadcaster, the voice of the Texas Longhords,

(36:17):
and your host of the Craigway Show.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Here he is now Craig.

Speaker 4 (36:23):
Way second hour of the program here on sports Radio

(36:50):
AM thirteen hundred.

Speaker 1 (36:51):
Zone and Craig wait with you. Put random one bruise
your alongside on boy and unavailable Cameron Parker, So he'll
uh sow khalil in for that this afternoon. Updating the

(37:13):
baseball going on right now, Astros and Tigers are scoreless
as the Astros bats with the leadoff man aboard. I
said that and he's now forced out at second. Tigers
weren't able to get the double play and in fact
the man sliding in the second once a review, he
thinks that the app wasn't recorded, even though the umpire

(37:35):
says it happened on the transfer as Spencer Gath was
pulling the ball out of the glove. So I don't
know if they're going to review that or not, but anyway,
it is scoreless between the Tigers and uh the Astros
in Game two. Yeah, there's no doubt it was. It
was on the transfer looking at a replay, uh there.
So one out will be recorded and the Astros will

(37:56):
still have a runner at first base with one out.
We'll keep you updated on the baseball the other the
other game getting ready to start Baltimore and Kansas City.
Detroit is now making a pitching change with a runner
at first in one out, so we'll see how that goes.
No score and that is in the bottom half of

(38:18):
the fifth inning. Tiger's winning yesterday three to one behind
Tarik Scuoball, who's proven was this year anyway the best
starting pitcher in all of baseball. League won Baseball's pitching
Triple Crown wins E, r A and strikeouts. So the
Astros backed into a corner and they have to figure

(38:40):
out from there. All right, let's hear from long orange
Head football coach Steve Sarkisian. Now this is going to
be from the SEC teleconference. Remember sark did his news
conference on Monday. Because this is an open date week
on the schedule. They're bye week on the schedule. There

(39:01):
are no more media availabilities local for Sark Like normally
on Thursdays, he does a media zoom with the there's
player availabilities, none of that stuff on this open date,
only the news conference dat on Monday. However, the SEC
has a man Data teleconference where every coach is on
it every week, regardless of whether they're playing or not.

(39:24):
So that applied to Text has also applied to Oklahoma. Remember,
the Sooners are going through an open date on the
schedule this week as well, leading up to the two
teams meeting in Dallas a week from the Saturday in
the All state Red River Rivalry matchup, and our coverage
will begin at eleven thirty from the Fairgrounds of the

(39:45):
State of Text will actually be up there on Friday
with coverage and then from the fairgrounds on Saturday morning
with Long Horns game Day coverage with an inclusive of
Cameron Parker and Mike hardboll Harge and Mark Henry from
the fairgrounds at the State of the State Fair of Texas.

(40:05):
So they'll get to sit out there in the open
while the Sooner fans walk by and flip them off
and stuff like that. That'll that's that's a regular behavior there,
and I should point out they are longer fans who
go by and flip off the Oklahoma game day broadcast
teams that are all on the field, and this is
part of that whole deal.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
You know.

Speaker 1 (40:23):
I can remember for years, and I do mean years,
if you asked, uh Texas people, one of the one
of the humorous things, whether it was Mack Brown or
Long warn players, they talk about riding in on that
bus and seeing these like eighty something year old grandma's
flipping them off from the fairgrounds or little kids flipping

(40:45):
them off for the fairgrounds. And then I would go
up and I'd cover the Oklahoma news conference and Bob
Stoops was the coach back then, and he would say, yeah,
that Texas, oklah Though. You Texas Week is something pretty special.
Get there and those fans are you know, They're behavior
is pretty special. They're they're flipping the off and telling
you who's number one and all. So they experienced it

(41:05):
also from their side as well. It's part of the
victory all that happens between Longhorns and Sooners. It just
works that way. That's just how that is. But anyway,
it's an open date this week for boat Texas and Oklahoma,
so Long Worns head coach Steve Sarkisian asked for some
opening thoughts and comments about his team coming out of

(41:27):
the win over Mississippi State and going into the bye week.

Speaker 6 (41:30):
Yeah, it's always great going into a buy coming off
with victory, you know, having started the season the way
we had.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
It's good to be undefeated.

Speaker 6 (41:41):
But naturally you endure some of the bumps and bruises
and things that that all teams endure. And so I
think the buy is coming out a really good time
for us to get some guys healthy, to refresh out
of our minds and our bodies, to get ready for
another kind of three game block of the season here
coming up here in a.

Speaker 1 (42:00):
Couple of weeks now, because this is an open date
on the schedule and a bye week for Texas. The
time that they were going to keep Sark on the
SEC Teleconference was going to be short. It wasn't going
to be very long. So I don't know if he
was puzzled by the answered the question, fine, but remember

(42:21):
this is the SEC Teleconference is a national call, so
writers in broadcasters, media from across the country can dial
in and they can ask a question. So they're all
welcome to do that. They can do that as you

(42:42):
might imagine the preponderance of the media participating in this
thing are going to be from SEC markets and outlets,
and that includes in the Deep South, and it certainly
been include the state of Alabama. So the first question
and that Sark got was not about his football team, uh,

(43:05):
but it was about the team they beat last year
and the quarterback they beat last year, Jalen Milroe of Alabama, who,
of course Jalen is a native Texan, played at Katie
Tompkins and had originally committed to Texas before quinn Ewers
transferred in and then Milroe changed his commitment ended up
going to Alabama. And Milroe has really progressed and had
a big game last Saturday night in Tuscal loose against Georgia.

(43:28):
So Sark was asked for his thoughts going all the
way back when he was recruiting Milroe, when he was
still on the Alabama staff, and what he has seen
Jalen Milroe accomplish and progress in his time as Alabama's quarterback.

Speaker 6 (43:43):
Yeah, we had Jalen in camp at Alabama and great kid,
great parents. Obviously, go athleticism was there, the arm talent
was there.

Speaker 7 (43:54):
I'm give him a lot of credit.

Speaker 6 (43:55):
He really worked.

Speaker 7 (43:57):
And developed into the revasial point. You know, he just
doesn't rely on athleticism. He's a great D ball passer,
can stand hines in his arm, extend plays, use his.

Speaker 6 (44:08):
Legs, they use him for direct run. So you know,
you have an envisionment of wor thinking kid could be
early on in his high school career, and then to
watch it kind of come to fruition. I guess, you know,
I'm happy for him, but I also validate some of
the things that you see and that you're looking for
and the next proper guys coming up.

Speaker 1 (44:26):
That's a good point too, because those were the things
that they were looking for from Jalen Milroe. And remember
he had his stumbles and growing pains early on, and
he drew a lot of heat after Texas feed Alabama
in that game last year in September in Tuscalusa. But
he's come a long way since. He helped guide Alabama
to the College Football Playoff, the SEC Championship in College

(44:48):
Football Playoff berth and now he's the quarterback of the
number one team in the country and the AP pole
number two in the coaches Texas number two and the
AP number one in the coaches. It's that close. Right now,
we'll hear more. We are from Longhorn's head coach, Steve
Sarkisian a little later on in the program. We've got
some other topics we'll get too. We'll update the baseball
for you as well as we continue here on this
Wednesday afternoon on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone

(45:11):
and the iHeartRadio app.
