Speaker 1 (00:00):
Craigway alongside the producer Cameron Parker, and so we're happy
to have you with us here for one more hour
of the program, and we'll hear more from longrn's head
coach Steve Sarkesian coming up in a few minutes. But
let's talk about the NFL, the National Football League. The

(00:25):
two games tonight Bears at Vikings. That one is the
ABC telecast and then you have the Falcons Raiders, which
starts thirty minutes afterwards. So at six o'clock or seven
o'clock tonight for Bears Vikings, seven thirty four Falcons.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
And Raiders on that.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
The results of the weekend go all the way back
to Thursday with the Rams beat the forty nine ers
twelve or six Chiefs over the Browns. Yesterday twenty one
seven got the Sea Xavior worthy again take off and
in on what was technically a touchdown run for him.
That was pretty impressive, But I have to tell you,

(01:09):
I think more impressive was Tovandre Sweat running.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Oh yeah, with that ball were ages and the stiff
army gates the ball and get out of the way.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Flattened a couple of Tennessee Titans running.

Speaker 2 (01:22):
It made me.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Think about t Sweat in the Big twelve championship game
catching the pass from Quinn Eewers to be in the
blowout whenever Oklahoma State there in Arlington.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
That was a lot of fun. How about Washington and
New Orleans yesterday?

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Now, if you didn't hear what happened, the Commanders held
a rather commanding lead.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
I think it might have been certainly was twenty to six.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
It might have been twenty to three at one point,
and then all of a sudden they started to fight back,
and they did fight back.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
It was cut to twenty to thirteen.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
And then Washington missed about a fifty some odd yard
field goal with a minute and change left, and so
it gave New Orleans and Spencer Rattler the.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Ball and good field position.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
They drove it down, They had a pass near the
goal line at the end, and they were out of timeouts.
Now they ended up scoring on what proved to be
the last play of the game, and at that point
the Saints figured, what the heck, you know, our season's

(02:37):
going nowhere, Let's go for two and try to win it.
So they went for two and they didn't get it,
so they lose twenty to nineteen. But lost in all
of that right near the end was this weird deal
with the clock stopping, and they had a pool reporter
visit with Sean Hockylely, the referee, and this is how
the conversation went. The question from the Johnson at the

(03:01):
end of the game. It was the third to last play.
The Saints completed a pass short of the goal line
and the clock kept running, and it appeared the clock
stopped at nine seconds. I was wondering if you had
an explanation for the stoppage. Sean Hoculey's response was to say, quote,
the covering official mistakenly stopped the clock.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
In that situation, the clock should not have stopped. Hocyly.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Was there any consideration of reviewing the stoppage? Was there
anything you could have done after the fact? Hocyly, No,
it's not a situation that is reviewable. Question when were
you all aware of the mistake, Hockyly. That's all I
have for you, Luke, the covering official mistakenly stopped the
clock in nine seconds and.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Is not reviewal. That's how it ended.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
There's lots of conspiracy theorists that we're talking about, and
they were looking at the what you call a significant
play to some in terms of the wagering line and
now it all went and so on and so forth.
But Washington ended up winning the game.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Obviously.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
We talked a little bit about the Cowboys winning over
the Panthers in Charlotte thirty to fourteen.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
They just seem to do better on the road camp
and they do a home I don't have much for
you there, Craig with you. I mean, they'd beat a
Panthers team that has what three wins?

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Yeah, all right, Baltimore over New York. I gotta buy
in the first round of fantasy, so wouldn't it, you know?
But if I needed to play, I was in good
shape because Lamar Jackson threw five touchdown pass.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
I met twenty one for twenty five.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
Just another super efficient game from Lamar Jackson that won't
get looked at a lot more, for one, because they
played the Giants and because Josh Allen had another MVP
type performance. But the Ravens aren't settling for field goals
or missfield goals attempts. They are a fantastic offense. Giants
have lost nine in a row. I can't believe. Brian
Davile is not on the coaching hot seat, looks like

(05:00):
he's going to come back for the year. And about that,
if you're an Eagles or Commanders or Cowboys fan, you're saying, okay,
thank you.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
If your Eagles and Commanders are Giants, fanners saying if
Mike McCarthy gun's back, okay, thank you.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Jets beat the Jags thirty two twenty five on that
not too much to have.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
That was a fun game for three win teams.

Speaker 3 (05:23):
Yeah, you know if you're an anti Aaron Rodgers guy,
and then you probably enjoyed the shots of him on
the bench by him something. Let me answer this something,
correg Yeah, does he have friends? Do you think Aaron
Rodgers has friends outside of football outside of Pat mcavee,
And I don't. He's not even his friend because he's
getting paid a million dollars to go on that show.
That there was a point made. I forget who made

(05:44):
the point, and I'm sorry I can't remember who it was.
But that all Aaron Rodgers is known for it is football.
And once once football ends for Aaron Rodgers, then he
loses his identity.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Hey, remember he hosted some episodes of Jeopardy. He did yeah,
he did, right after Alex Trebek retarded he did. He
actually did pretty good too, but he wasn't gonna make it.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
He seems like a guy that has has a spotlight
on him. He needs some media attention. I don't know
what they're gonna do. I I can't foresee him coming
back next season in the New York Jet uniform. And
I don't know what NFL team would drawn Adam, considering
all the turmoil he brings to your locker room and organization.
But but then, I mean a battle of what a
coach that should be fired versus the intraim head coach

(06:30):
Albret Albright whatever, who will be gone at the end
of the year. Just a real gloomy game for two
gloomy fan bases yesterday.

Speaker 2 (06:38):
You know who Aaron Rodgers gets next, don't you? Who's that?
Had to be? The Rams?

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Okay in the metal land congratulations, Yeah, it's gonna be cold.
The Rams have found a way to beat good teams
like Buffalo and the Vikings this year while losing the
teams like the Bears and the Dolphins this year.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
Hey, I'm looking at the standings right now, Craig, and
I see the LA Rams the top the NFC West,
even though they have a negative point differential.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
That's good.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
They're still playing the price for getting blown out by
the Cardinals like forty one early in the season. They'll
get another shot at Arizona week after next.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
They have a worse point differential than the five, four
and nine, the four and nine Chicago Bears, who have
lost seven in a row.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Yeah, the Bears just find magical ways to lose, and
they'll find another magical way to lose tonight in Minneapolis.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Oh well, yeah, no doubt, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
Uh, Texans kind of just grinded one out against the
Dolphins yesterday.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
That was clinched the division.

Speaker 3 (07:40):
Brutal tu of performance, three interceptions, he almost got his
teammate killed yesterday. Yeah, we hope that the Boys is okay.
I think we heard that he had feelings in his extremities,
which is a good sign. But just one of those
to games where you're just like, this is this is
the future, this is this is Tua. Do you really
trust him that much? I mean, you forget tyreek kills.

(08:01):
Even on the field, he was going in this season
as what possible an MVP favorite to win it. The
number one receiver in the league. It does not feel
like it that way at all. And the Dolphins team that,
you know, they're still alive in the playoffs, but needed
that win yesterday. And the Texans, congrats to that organization.
Although I mean the offense still is kind of just grinding.

(08:22):
You said grind, it's a good word.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
Great.

Speaker 3 (08:24):
I feel like they're just grinding too hard to win
some of these games they should win by more points.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Yeah, how about the bizarre game in Denver. The Colts
were leading and they were doing really well, and then
Jonathan Taylor dropped the ball before he crossed the goal
line on what would have been a forty one yard touchdown,

(08:49):
and then the Broncos came back, and then they bounced back.
Then the Colts have it again, and they tried a
little razzle dazzle and Anthony Richardson threw the ball to
ad Mitchell, and Adani Mitchell took it seemed like thirteen
seconds to get the ball stand still and then throw
back across the hill. That was probably the easiest interception

(09:10):
Nick Benito has ever had. I mean, you saw ad
get the ball and he's trying to get his hands
around it to throw and then he sets up and
just throws a floater and there's Benito who just timed
it perfectly, intercepted. It was supposed to be a throwback
pass to the quarterback, and Benito picks it off and
takes it in for the touchdown.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
Denver is nine and five.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
And in some key ex Longhorns playing very well for them,
Brandon Jones the secondary, PJ. Locke who forced a fumble
in that game, Malcolm Roach defensive lineman cool the Sea,
and then LJ.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Humphrey.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
He had a tackle of one of those bow knicks
is one of his three interceptions. Hey, if bow Knicks
can throw three picks and you're able to win a
football game, that tells you that, hey, you got a
good defense, and also the team you're playing absolutely the stinks.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
That was the Indianapolis culture.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
That was his worst game in several weeks, because he's
actually played well in decent uh so, but he didn't
play well in that one.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
They still won.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Eagles beat the Steelers, and they always beat the Steelers.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
I think now, Craig, I mean, you look at the
Lions injuries and we'll get to the game in the second.
I think the Eagles now are your favorite to win
the NFC.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
Well, the Lions still hold the tie break better conference record,
but they fell into a tie for best record by
losing that crazy game to Buffalo forty two. And everybody's
pointing to Dan Campbell, So what are you doing with
the on side kick there like early fourth quarter when
you're right in the game and it was easily recovered

(10:44):
and the Buffalo ends up getting a touchdown out of it,
and then the Lions came charging back and they got
a touch on it, and they almost recovered another on
side kick there in the waiting seconds.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Your defense give but forty eight points. You're not getting
to stop.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
So I understand why people are on Campbell for that
in exgressive nature, but you're defense could not get a stop.
Buffalo averaged eight and a half yards per play. Craig,
of course he's going to go for the on side kick.
And now with the Lions defensively, all these injuries, I mean,
looking at it right now, their injuries could field a
top ten NFL defense on the defensive line. Aiden Hutchinson,

(11:18):
who is looking at an All Pro season, he's done
for the year, maybe could come back in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Who knows.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Alee McNeil, starting defensive tackle, out for the year, Marcus
Davenport defensive lineman, starter, he's been out. John Kaminski backup,
he's been out. So three of their four starters is out.
Linebacking corps Alex and Seloni starter, he's been out. Malcolm Rodriguez,
former Oklahoma State product, he's been out. Played a big
part of their defense. Derek Barnes backup linebacker, he's been out.

(11:44):
Jillen Reeves Mabon he's been out. And then the secondary,
Carlton Davis, the starter has been out, and as Ray
Shaw junior starter has been out.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
Emmanuel Moseley's been out.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
And then their safety Vettu Malifanoah whatever you say his
last name, he's been out their defense.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
I mean tho.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
Those are all stars, all starters or second string players
who are now out for a Lions team at a
certain point, Craig, no matter how well coached or talented
you are on offense, when you suffer those injuries, that's
what eleven players I just named. It's hard to come
back from that, and I'm worried how the Lions are
just not gonna have enough debt or great coaching to

(12:21):
be able to survive those injuries on defense.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
The Bills, by the way, became the first team to
score over forty and surrender over forty points in back
to back games since the nineteen sixty six New York Giants.
Now only because they, you know, weird about studying history
of the NFL. I knew what one of those games

(12:45):
had to be for the Giants, and sure enough I
looked it up.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
They went one, twelve and one that year. They were
horrible the Giants. One of the.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Games was they lost a game at Washington seventy two
to forty one. It's the largest scoring, the highest scoring
game for a team in the regular season in NFL history.
The Redskins lost to the Bears in the nineteen forty
NFL Championship Game seventy three to nothing, but they beat
the Giants seventy two to.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
Forty one in Washington.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
The next week, the Giants lost at Cleveland forty nine
to forty and the week after that they lost it
home to the Steelers forty seven to twenty eight. They
had three consecutive games giving up over forty but in
two of them they scored over forty. They lost both
now the Bills on have lost one that was to
the Rams last week, the forty four to forty two game,

(13:36):
and also this one because it was the crazy game
that it was forty eight to forty two then became
the highest scoring game of the season forty eight forty
two Buffalo with the win on that one.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
The crazy thing about that, Craig is, you know you
could have like it's all Josh Allen, him carrying the offense, no,
the rushing attack. Yesterday just dashed Detroit. James Cook was phenomenal,
the resho over two hundred yards. Allen is having a
fantastic year right now. He's your Sunday Ticket MVP, Red
Zone MVP. I mean, every time he has the ball

(14:12):
and it helps, he's on my fantasy team. But when
he has it, you know, he's like what Mahomes was
two years ago, except you know, they're not scoring five
points a game and somehow still winning.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
He has been tremendous. He would be my vote for
the MVP.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
And I think right now you're gonna get a lot
of people who are gonna predict and pick the Bills
to win the AFC, and I hope we get another
Bills Chiefs matchup in the AFC Championship game.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
You know, he's kind of quietly doing some good stuff.
Tampa Bay.

Speaker 1 (14:38):
Yeah, they won forty to seventeen over the Chargers and
they're still rolling along and nine to five in the
division and then Green Bay winning last night. We talked
about beating Seattle thirty to thirteen, creating that two way
tie for first in the NFC West.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
And Tampa Bay closes with the Cowboys, that's a win, Panthers,
that's the win. In the Saints, that's the win. So
even though they lost those two games to Atlanta and
we lose the tie break, I don't know of Atlanta
can catch up to them because now the Lan's with
a game and a half behind them. If they win
the night, they're only game back. But they lose tonight
and they're two games back with three left. I don't
see Tampa Bay losing. The Bucks somehow can win this

(15:11):
division even though they lost two games to the Falcons. Yeah, yeah,
which means he NFC West champion is probably gonna.

Speaker 1 (15:17):
Be the four seed the way it stands. All right,
we're gonna hear more from Longbarn's head coach Steve starts
Keshan when we continue on Sports RADIOA and thirteen under
the ZWE
