Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's get into a little NFL action, all right.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
We talked obviously about the Cowboys and how dismay it
can be to be a Cowboys fan and all.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
This kind of stuff.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
But and again I saw a lot of social media stuff,
sixty million dollars, you know that kind of stuff.

Speaker 1 (00:18):
And wasted blah blah blah blah blah bah and all
that other business.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Again, this goes a lot further, a lot deeper than
Dak Prescott.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Did he make his mistakes, yeah he did.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
But if you had a dollar for every blow by
an offensive back, I mean, that's what kind of just
shocked me, is that the defense could be had like
that play damage and you know, going into that game, Cam,
everybody's around the Saints. Yeah, but they played Carolina. How

(00:49):
are they gonna do on this? And we got a
chance to see they're a little more for real. Derek
Carr look good.

Speaker 3 (00:56):
Hey, if you look at the top seven quarterbacks terms
of average annual salary. On Sunday, Dak Prescott lost, Joe
Burrow lost, Jordan Love did not play, Trevor Lawrence lost,
Tua lost and is out for out now who knows
how many games. Jared Goff lost Lamar Jackson, who's number nine.

(01:17):
He lost, so the only quarterback to win that his
top ten now Jyllen Hurts has not played yet.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
He plays a night against Atlanta.

Speaker 3 (01:23):
Was justin Herbert and they played a team we just
benched their quarterback who was dropped number one overall. So
the sixty million dollar people, Yeah, it's also six other quarterbacks,
five of their quarterbacks who have struggled. So maybe the move,
Craig is you just get a guy like Gino Smith
or Baker Mayfield who was once the first round draft pick,
let him flounder at a team for a few years,

(01:46):
pick him up on a cat friendly deal, and then
there you go.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
You know, Baker Mayfield, he did a pregame where he
did an interview, was sit down with CRISA. Thompson yesterday
and for Fox's pregame, and he said something like, I
did draw it up this way to you know, bounce
around this, Baker Mayfield, I didn't draw it up this
way to bounce around with you know, Cleveland and Rams

(02:12):
and there were a couple of other teams, Panthers and Panthers,
you know, you said, but you know, I've found where
I need to be now and uh, you know, I'm
becoming a dad now.

Speaker 1 (02:23):
It's kind of changed him a little bit as well.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Geno Smith was it just always struck me as kind
of along for the ride with Seattle, but he made
it up plays yesterday against New England was New England.
Uh and yeah, and you can say the same thing too,
uh if you're if you're evaluating. Uh, Jayden Daniels I
was a Giants.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
It was tough for the rookie quarterbacks.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
He could get him in the field goal range. They
kicked seven field goals and that was enough to win
the game.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
To win your fantasy game too.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, if you had him, you were in good shape
on that speining of fantasy. Those of us who had
pa check oh oh yes, sorry, losing guys all the
time of it. I'm in good shape to win the
game because I did pick up Jordan Mason last week,
so that that good helps.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
But Hollywood Brown out for the year, Cooper Cup's gonna
be out for some time, poop, and Naku is going
to be out for some time. Caffrey on the IR,
I'm on Saint Brown's little nick up JJ who knows
about Justin Jefferson justin Jefferson.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
I got him on the team for the second three.
He says he's gonna be okay, he's not worried about
it being well, we'll see, we'll see. Yeah, like said Cooper,
cups banged up and Pu is not going to be
back for several weeks. That team's in a lot of
trouble right now. I have the Vikings win over the
forty nine Ers. That was impressive enough to see.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
And then another I didn't mention mentioned Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
How about uh Sam Donald, Sam Donald t andoh start
with Minnesota. Huge credit to Kevin o'carr and what he's
done with quarterbacks. Remember Kirk Coussins before his season ending
injury last season, was having what was his best statistical
season as a quarterback before he went down, and then
he had Josh Jobs came in. Remember Josh Jobs had
a two three, four week stretch where he was lighting

(04:06):
the NFL up. So uh, good offensive system. It seems
to work in Darnold man. Who would have thought Vikings
would be two and oh knocking off San Francisco.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
I thought both Nicks played reasonably well yesterday. Just you know,
the Steelers was tough for them to move the ball on.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Them six points. That's thirteen to six. That's that's an
actual score for an NFL game in a week two?
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
It was?

Speaker 3 (04:31):
I didn't watch a single snap of that game, and
thank goodness.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, Steelers did a good job.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
They gave up some yardage in between the thirties, and
then they really clamped down after that and they got
some turnovers and things like that.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
How was Pittsburgh two and oh? It doesn't make a
lick of sense to me. Yeah, they're doing it well, man,
it was in La Denver.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
And somehow they'll be eight and eight and they'll be
the sixth seed in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
They'll get in and they'll be dangerous, you know that
sort of thing. So it grows kind of mind. So
Eagles and Falcons, and you're thinking Philly.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Think in Philly, and Philly's gonna be that two and
o team after because so far, Craig, I think the
biggest takeaways from the first two weeks is, Okay, there's
not really that one great team. I know, case is
two and o, but hey, they're two plays away from
being oh and to and no one in the NFC
has really you know, grabbed my attention. San Francisco with
the loss yesterday. I'm not gonna not gonna really believe

(05:28):
in New Orleans or Minnesota just yet, or even Seattle
a couple two and O teams.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
But hey, Philly looks good tonight.

Speaker 3 (05:34):
Maybe they blow out Atlanta and the Michael PENNOCKX junior
rumors start floating around about him starting for Kirk Cousins.
Philly might once again be the team for the third
straight year entering October where it's like, okay, they're the
best team to beat in the NFC.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Let me tell you another quarterback who looked really good yesterday,
as much as it pains me to say it, Kyler Murray. Yes,
he played really well and did a great job of escaping.
But there were three or four times he should have
been sacked taken down, and he was able to dart
out it with a quick move in his little mincing steps,
you know, and he could get over to the sideline.

(06:09):
Then boom hit Marvis Harrison Junior downfield twice and you
know he was He did a heck of a job
on that.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
So yeah, he deserves he deserves his props. He really
did a good job.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
All right, We'll be back to wrap up our number
two of the program here on this Monday afternoon. A

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
