Speaker 1 (00:04):
It's the Craig Way Show with a voice of the
Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame Broadcasting Craig Wack rolling
on here on a Thursday afternoon. A reminder coming up
(00:27):
at six o'clock a basketball preview edition of Longhorn Weekly
with Rodney Terry. That's coming up at six o'clock live
here on the Zone from Pluckers the West Campus location, Austin.
All Right, I'm gonna go back to the NBA. We
had Bill Schoning on earlier talking about tonight's season opener
for the Spurs in Dallas taking on the Mavericks, and
we did address some of the games last night a
(00:51):
little bit, but but we have not addressed the fact
that your team, the Oklahoma City Thunder is playing Nuggets.
Quite the opener there between OKAC and Denver tonight up
in the Mile Hight City.
Speaker 2 (01:06):
And how things have changed, Craig, I mean two years
ago in this matchup, you're like, man, can hope we
can okay see can keep within fifteen? And then last
season now this year, I know Denver's favorite one and
a half. I think okay See wins this basketball game.
But super excited for this season that's been a lot
of fun watching the NBA this year. And you know,
I have not been this excited for my team since
(01:29):
probably twenty sixteen season, maybe maybe twenty twenty when we
had Chris Paul and Dennis Shrewder and Shay was a
young buck, but excited to start. And of course you're
Dallas Mavericks. We're opening the season this well, they'll be
the first game on TNT. And then what T and
T must have like, ESPN must be pissed because TNT's
(01:52):
double headers this week had been so much better than
what ESPN had last night.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Yeah, yeah, it was. It was rather unimpressed of last night.
Here's here's the other thing that strikes me about tonight's schedule.
And again we visited with Bill about this, about the
Spurs and the Mavericks, and we talked about last night's games.
But but with regard to tonight's game, the leak's wasting
no time and jumping in with some back to backs yea.
And and you know we we'd heard all the stuff
(02:19):
about him beat how he wasn't going to play in
the first three games, so he's not going to be
in action tonight at Toronto when they played. When the
Sixers play the Raptors, UH, the defending champion Celtics, who
looked the part of the defending champions when they smacked around.
The Knicks play at Washington tonight. Minnesota is playing at Sacramento. Now,
(02:42):
those were the games Boston played on Tuesday. Minnesota played
on Tuesday, so there's a little more. But they do
have to travel, so Boston and Washington tonight. I hadn't
asked you much about the Wizards even.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Need to bring that up to you. About the Kings though,
fun team. I mean they're you know, the roster they've built,
there's the playing team I like. I liked Domas Sabonis.
You know, he started off with ok C, so you know,
I have a place in my heart for him. I
like dearon Fox. You know. I always think back to
(03:16):
what he did the loonzo ball in the in the
NCAA Tournament against USLA when he was with Kentucky. But
this is a basketball team that is just peak peak
playing team right there with the with trying to think
of who is the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference
where now they'll win more games than the Hawks, But
it's a King's roster that I think has a ceiling.
(03:38):
But they're a fun team, you know. You know they
added to Marta Rozen this year. I don't think that's
going to move in the needle too much for me,
but hey like the beam.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Yeah yeah. So so anyway, those are those are ones
that are going in tonight and then they jump back
into it pretty quickly, like on Friday Night. Four teams
that all saw action last night, well several that saw
action last like Detroit to Cleveland, Charlotte at Atlanta. I
mentioned Philadelphia, Toronto, and Brooklyn at Orlando Orlando. I thought
(04:08):
looked pretty good and there went over the heat. But
I think we expect that if Pabo Bankaro is playing,
because he looks like a special player.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, thirty three and eleven last night, magic again. You know,
I kind of they're on that same Okac trajectory where
you know, a couple of years ago they went from
twenty wins to like thirty and then last year I
think forty seven. Can they get the fifty? So we
saw what okay Seed did this past year. Benk Carol,
you know, he's he's he's on a he's gonna be
a fantastic player and then for Brooklyn, a team that
(04:41):
obviously is tanking four first round draft picks. Perhaps we
talked about it yesterday. It's the Cam Thomas Show, thirty
six points the other night. He's gonna take about forty
shots perg ging at this rate. So I feel bad
for Eddie Orn and Nets fans.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
They have to give him more work to do the
you know, but and yet for all of that, Now,
again I let you weigh it in its proper metric.
But they played Atlanta really tough. He ended up losing
what one ten, one oh six last night. And I
watched some of that game because I have the league
pass package, so I did watch some of that game
(05:14):
between or between Brooklyn and Atlanta, and the Hawks did win.
And now I get Charlotte and and that's going to
be on Friday, but tomorrow. But Charlotte had some moments
last night.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
They did LaMelo Ball, who might be one of the
best stat patters in the league this rate thirty four
to eight and eleven. But you know, they'd beat a
young Rockets team.
Speaker 1 (05:38):
Speaking of Rockets, way, now, I thought you were excited
about the Rockets.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Yeah, I mean they had a couple of pieces, so
it's going to take some time for them to kind
of get all that chemistry worked out. But you know,
just opening night and I bought Charlotte's going to be
a tanking team. But then of this season and they'll
be lucky to get twenty five thirty wins.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
I think, Okay, great. Are you prepared to say the
same thing about Detroit again?
Speaker 2 (06:01):
I think so.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
But I'll tell you one thing about Detroit, Kay Cunningham,
he looked good. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:08):
No, I like I said yesterday, I like the players
on their roster, Jay and Ivy finally getting some minutes
in this game. Jalen Durn, I'm a big Durn fan.
And then Ron Holland, the former Texas commit. You know,
he came in yesterday six points in his rooky debut
O three. You know, he will be curious to see
how it works out for him because obviously in high school,
you know, he was a number one option and then
(06:29):
you go play in the G League where the entire
team is just built around you. And now you get
to Detroit where you're the you know, you're coming off
the bench, you're kind of the sixth man. So we'll
see what the adjustment is like for Ron Holland, but
he's he obviously has a high ceiling, so we're fun
to watch out he plays out this season. But the
Pistons have a fun roster and that looked like they
(06:50):
were headed in the right direction after getting rid of
many Williams and a lot of their Troy Reaver as well.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Let me ask you, so I hadn't hadn't asked you
this yet, how are you managing this brave new world
of how you consume your professional sports? Like, for example,
tonight obviously is Rams Vikings, and anybody's wanting to watch
Rams Vikings, you better be watching an Amazon or you
better have an Amazon subscription or watching it at somebody's
(07:18):
place who has that, or in a sports bar where
they have it on that sort of thing. If you're
watching high school footall I you can watch Vista Ridge
and manor playing on KBVO which gonna happen in the week. Yeah,
there's that. But to the to the other pro sports,
pro basketball, pro hockey as well, and you're a big
Stars fan and they've gone that victory app route nice
(07:38):
and so has that been an easy ease in for
you on that? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (07:43):
For the Stars, Yeah, for sure, NBA. You know my
team's okay. See, so I haven't purchased league past yet
this season. I'm still thinking about it. You know, if
anyone wants to share and split the price with me,
please hurt me up.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
I would love to but these and watch. We'll pick
a night when the thunder are playing or whatever, and
you can do it. Jason hearing the roof off for
okay see.
Speaker 2 (08:04):
But you know, of course, I'm like many other people
have the million subscriptions Peacock, Amazon Prime, Yes, Ben Plus
and uh we are we are a red zone household.
We are not something ticket. We are a red zone. Yeah, household.
Shout out Scott Hansen.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
So he's become a bit of a celebrity, hadn't he
he yes, yes, yes he has.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
I felt like the star in many cast. You know,
usually Peyton or Eli is the star, depending on the guests,
you know, it might be different, but it felt like
we were watching the Hanson cast with Peyton and Eli
as the guest.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
He just jumped right in and did that update it
was just golden and did update on the other game,
and when it came back to him later, he really
didn't have anything. Yeah, it's seven to six. Nothing, nothing
much else has happened. It was a fumble and yeah
it was good to good to it. Now I've seen
him in commercials like for Home Depot and a couple
other things or something.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Yeah, with Dak Prescott.
Speaker 1 (08:59):
Yeah, so his star is on the rise. Not the
cowboy star, but his star is a bit on the rise.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
All right, when we too, like now like announcers are
kind of getting popular, Craig again, Yeah, waiting for your
nil deal with you know, some law firm and something.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
I wouldn't wait too long other than the ones that
we're getting these days here on this station. So we'll
continue with that. We'll be back to wrap up today's
edition of the program here on sports Radio AM thirteen
under the Zone and on the iHeartRadio app.
