Speaker 1 (00:00):
A Red River Rivalry. That's why I said you say
it slowly. Red River Rivalry week and Thursday of that week.
We are just over forty eight hours from kickoff of
the one hundred and twentieth edition of the Red River Rivalry.

(00:20):
Good afternoon, everybody, Welcome to the program here on Sports
RADIOAM thirteen hundred the Zone. My name is Craig Way.
I do thank you very much for joining us. Please
to be joined as always by the producer of this program,
Cameron D. Parker. The D on the birth certificate stands
for Dallas, as in his favorite pro football team that
he refuses to watch, even though he has an opportunity
to watch them locally this weekend. If he hung out

(00:42):
an extra day up there in the Metroplex, he could
go see the Cowboys and Lions on Sunday. He has
no desire to do that. So, therefore, what does the
D stand for this weekend? Or it stands for today
departure day?

Speaker 2 (00:58):
That or deep fried and it'll stand for deep fry
tomorrow in Saturday and Sunday it will send for Dear God,
why do they eat that third corn dog and the
friay orioles and the turkey.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Leg and the Pamina cheese thing.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
If I can figure out where it's at.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Yeah, yeah, I think that might be that might be
worth worthwhile doing it. We're glad to be with you here.
What we're gonna do here on the program in coming
up in a few minutes, we'll hear from Longgarn's head
coach Steve Sarkisian from his final weekly media obligation. It's

(01:36):
the zoom media availability that he does every Thursday, and
we'll bring it to you. You'll be able to hear
all the questions for him and his responses to this
as he prepares to take his team north for his
fourth ever Red River rivalry. So we're going to bring
that to you. We do have inconceivable this hour, and

(02:00):
there's good and there's bad with the inconceivable, as you
might imagine, so we have that. Also, we're gonna hear
from sark talk about something we talked at length about yesterday,
State Fair Foods. And we recorded Longhorn Weekly with Coach
Sark out of Pluckers the West Campus location in Austin

(02:23):
yesterday evening. We always recorded like at six o'clock on
Wednesdays and it airs at seven on Thursday, so it'll
be coming your way tonight at seven o'clock. But we
lifted one segment from the recording of the program to
you to hear Sark and I discuss some of those
State Fair foods, so we'll do that coming up. Well.
Also remind you baseball playoffs still going on. The first

(02:47):
pitch of today's action doesn't start until a little after
four o'clock today, with the Cleveland Guardians trying to stay
alive in Detroit against the Tigers, the sixth seed, who
lead at two games to one. Cleveland in the same
spot the Los Angeles Dodgers were in last night. But
the Dodgers went out and beat the San Diego Padres
eight to nothing. And there were two things that really

(03:07):
stood out about that game to me. Cameron Parker won,
the Dodgers got their bats going again, and the Mookie
Betts is on a roll again, and guys like Gavin
Lux Max Monsey, those guys are starting to hit again
and that bodes well for LA. But the other thing
is there was a definite roll of the dice, a
calculated risk employed by both managers. Dave Roberts of Los Angeles,

(03:32):
Mike Shilt of San Diego. For Dave Roberts, it was
less a risk and more of a necessity. He went
out and did what he's done a lot this year
and just had a bullpen game and ran eight different
relievers out there, and they did the job in shutting
out the Padres. Eight different relievers kept them off balance

(03:53):
and shut out San Diego. On the other side, Mike
shild decided to go back to his ace Dylan Sees
on one day's less rest, and a backfired. The Dodgers
jumped on him Bets with a homer in the first,
and they got two more in the second, and then
two more in the third, and they just kind of
opened it up from there. So it didn't work there
for San Diego. But those two will play one more

(04:14):
time tomorrow night, and the winner is gonna get the
sixth seed. The New York Mets, the amazing Mets continue.
They're running there. Philadelphia's done. The two seed is out.
They've won both games, and Queens did the Mets and
the Phillies are eliminated.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Before yesterday's games, no team had ever throwing a postseason
shutout in a game in which the starter recorded only
four or fewer outs Dodgers and the Tigers almost did
it at the same time. And it's huge, Craig, As
you will know, the Dodgers went into this the playoffs
not knowing who their rotation was gonna be because of
all the injuries, and they get that bullpen game out

(04:50):
of that and they get that win. It's huge. And
that's how you're able to go and win a World
Series or advance to the NLCS is when you have
your bullpen step up, and you know when your bullpen
does not step up, usually it's a big reason why
you end up going home early.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Yeah, So the Phillies are done, the Dodgers are still
alive in the National League. In the American League, the
Yankees have taken the two games to one lead on
the Kansas City Royals, clutch hitting the clutch gene in
effect for New York, and they have Garrett Cole going
back to the mountain. All right. Coming up next, we'll
hear from long Worts head coach Steve Sarkeesian as we

(05:25):
take a look at what's to come for Texas AU
week on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred, The Zone and
