Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Longhorns were fired up last night, jumped out to
an early lead on New Mexico State, never looked back,
never had the game tied, never had really even threatened.
They were up by twenty five of the half, led
by as many as I think thirty two ended up
winning it ninety one to sixty seven. So yeah, they
won by twenty four points. After the game, visited with
(00:24):
head coach Rodney Terry outside the locker room to talk
about his team's attention to detail and continue development.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
Talk about pretty complete.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Did you see it as a pretty complete effort by
your guys?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
Yeah, you know what, We talked the last two days
about urgency and how how important it is for us
to develop urgency right now before we ebook on SEC play,
because you have to. It's going to be really important
to play with urgency in the SEC. And I thought
they really met the challenge tonight. You know, this team
was coming off a good win over in the pitch.
(00:55):
Really hard to win in the bit if you you know,
you know basketball over there, it's really hard those guys,
but they played hard. They compete the Well Coast and
we knew we were going to get a good game
to night but I thought our guys really bounced back
really really good focus, and I thought we were better
in areas we need to get better tonight.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
You know, it was mentioned to me and I mentioned
to Tremont that it seemed like he was able to
lose himself in the game and do well and seem
pretty comfortable tonight. Oh.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
We tell guys great to get lost playing really hard
on defense, and the thing we asked him to do
is try to play with the motor on defense and
then offense comes.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Easy to you.
Speaker 3 (01:27):
And I thought he got I thought he really got
off to the great star defense. They're trying to go
out one of the better players, really good shooter, and
we weren't switching at all to day. We're gonna stay
with our man, and I thought he was pretty locked
in on that end of the floor.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
All right.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
I see your Pimter guys making plays now passing the
ball that maybe they wouldn't make it early in years.
Seemed like you guys were sharing the ball and they're
really learning to play with each other, which is important.
Speaker 2 (01:51):
I thought we really need to improve.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
In the last game, a prayer movement, ball movement.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
We had nineteen.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
Assist a night, sharing the ball plenty five mentality, don't
play with the ball, get the ball out of your
hands and move the basketball. Cut with the purpose, cut hard.
You know, again, we hadn't practiced as much as on
our office as much as we needed to, and we
made it a focal point the last couple of days
of work on those things. Specifically alone was still working
(02:18):
on our defense.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
We spent a lot of time on our defense.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
You also were able to get some bench guys some
extended minutes, Nick Cody, I thought Jamie Vincent gave you
some good minutes tonight, even DP Dvian Pryor gave you
some minutes.
Speaker 3 (02:31):
Valuable minutes for those young guys. All those minutes are
really really valuable for them. Every minutes valuable in every game,
but especially for young guys that you're bringing alone and
you're developing those guys. They have a full scale workout
in the morning's on game day. Uh and uh, you know,
if we're in a position to be able to play
them and give them opportunities, we want to be to
do that, and tonight we're fortunate to be able to
(02:52):
do that.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Weird time of year, isn't it the end of the
academic semester and some people going through finals and all
that kind of stuff, and then you get in that
long spell where's just back basketball and not much else.
Speaker 3 (03:01):
Yeah, you know, what's it's one of those times of
the year where guys can be physically physically fatigued, they
can be mentally fatigued. You know, we had a big
ball game because you've gone the other day and our
guys were still you know, a lot of academic work.
It's a lot a lot on their plate right now
to close it out and everything. But we're here in
the last week of it, and from that point on
it'll be pretty much just basketball. You know, they can
(03:23):
focus and try to be guys that really lock in
to to what we're trying to get done, both offensively
and defensively.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
All right, appreciate the time, Artie, Congrats on the wind.
Thanks true. All right.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
So yeah, in this somewhat odd time of year, the Longhorns,
you know, took care of business last night. I think
when they'll play Arkansas Pine Bluff on Sunday afternoon at
Moody probably will handle their business then and then they're
off for a few days till after Christmas. Well, actually,
they have one more home game there and that'll follow afterwards.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
And then after New Orleans.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Yeah, against New Orleans on Thursday of the nineteenth And
by the way, a very underrated logo the Privateers. Yeah, underrated.
I think, why do you think that that's underrated? I
just I mean, I don't think people reminded me of
Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Yeah, I just don't think a lot
of people know that Nola has a university. But I think,
you know, it's it's a cool you know, it's a
(04:23):
cool logo. They do have a university, it's called Tulane,
but they also Yeah, I don't think a lot of
people know that.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
You're right, Yeah, you And.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
When I went down to New Orleans to broadcast the
Final Four in two thousand and three, Texas of course
went to the Final Four that year and both men's
and women's basketball, and the men were playing in New
Orleans at the Superdome.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
And.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
We got down there a couple of days early, and
Mike Perle, who was our basketball engineer at the Mike.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
And I.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Think went to see We went to the Lakefront Arena,
which is UNO's home arena.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
The basketball team.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
They don't play where don't play the Smoothi King Arena.
They don't play at the Smoothie King Arena. They do
not play in the NBA area. They play on and
on campus FA. So it's a nice building. We went
to see a concert. We went to see Bardaked Ladies
play there before things got real business. It was good
that had a good time there before they played. So anyway,
that was there and then back then all right, coming
(05:35):
up an interesting different take on Bowl games because I
know a lot of people think, gosh, there's so many
Bowl games and I don't care to watch, and I
have my own opinion about that, which I'll get to,
but there's another opinion on it that you need to hear.
We'll get to that when we continue on Sports Radio
AM thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
