Speaker 1 (00:07):
We welcome you to the prekend Thursday afternoon here on
the Craigwaves Show. Bye week for Texas football. But there's
a lot happening in the world of college football this
weekend NFL, and in the world of sports, it's Ryder
Cup weekend at Bethpage Black and we can't wait to

(00:27):
preview all of this and more here on today's program.
Good afternoon, I'm Cameron Parker, filling in for Craig Wait,
who is out this week enjoying a little bit of
a break from the afternoon show. He'll be back next Monday,
beginning with Steve Sarakejian's weekly Monday press conference. But for
now you got me, and then tomorrow you've got JQ Herman,
who is our producer behind the studio with the ones

(00:51):
in two is making us sound all good on the
iHeart airwaves. Speaking of iHeart, if you are listening on
the free iHeart radio app, kudos to you. Of course,
you can listen on the radio Dalley in your car
at AM thirteen hundred the Zone or wherever you get
your podcast. Maybe you're listening back to this on the
iHeart app or Apple Spotify, wherever it is We are

(01:11):
glad to have you with us for today's program. Of course,
if you want to join the program, encourage you the
text to word Texas to eight one five three zero,
followed by your message. Got some good chirping yesterday on
the text line talking about Texas playing nothing but backup quarterbacks.
It's turning into how Michael Jordan only played against plumbers environment.

(01:32):
That's it's kind of where we're at, Jake, what's happening
here with the backup quarterbacks. It's not Texas's fault that
John Matteer hard his hand against Auburn.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Yeah, I thought they were saying that about Bill Russell.
People say that about Jordan too.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
Oh yeah, for sure, for sure.

Speaker 1 (01:44):
Look any Lebron MJ debate, plumbers and environments are brought
up for some reason, for some reason. You heard the
voice of Jay Kerman, our producer. Of course, you can
leave a talk back message on the iHeart app as
well if you.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
Rundown up today's show.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
It's going to be a little bit of different format,
and that's because we have CJ for Local from mont
Texas Football joining us at two forty five will be
for the final segment at the two o'clock hour in
the first segment of the three o'clock hour, talking Texas Football,
getting his thoughts on the new opponent schedule for Texas
released from twenty seven to twenty twenty nine. It seems

(02:21):
like it's going to be a long ways away for that,
but it'll be here before you know it. Get his
thoughts on the John Mattier injury, how it changes the
dynamic and the SEC and the Red River rivalry game.
And also, like we did yesterday with the third and
long Coorn guy, it's going to get his non conference superlatives.
Part one of what I have broken and broken this

(02:41):
season down in the four parts. The first part non
conference play. Part two is this five week stretch beginning
with Florida concluding against Vanderbilt. Part three Georgia, Arkansas A,
and m than Part four the postseason schedule. So looking
for the visit with CJ from Montexas Football dot Com.
After CJ about three to fifteen three. We have a
former Ryder Cup member of the nineteen eighty seven, sorry

(03:05):
nineteen eighty nine Ryder Cup team for the Americans, Mark McCumber,
ten time PGA Tour winner in golf analysts for Serix XM,
Serious XM's PGA Tour network, so he'll come on, we'll
talk Ryder Cup. The European side met with the media yesterday.
Rory and Bryson already going at it, and man, I'm

(03:25):
pumped for this event that begins six am Tomorles Central time,
I believe on the USA network, also Peacock NBC, and
then you can hear it also on Serious XM's PGA
Tour Radio. So we are fired up for that. Excited
the chat with Mark McCumber, good friend of mine. And
then throughout the show, we're gonna hear from Jim slost Angle.
It's never too early for Texas Baseball talk because they

(03:46):
are playing on Saturday, actually at Del Diamond on exhibition
match Texas against Texas Tech.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
So we'll hear from Jim Slowsning. We heard a little
bit from him.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Yesterday about the scheduling of that game, why they're playing
at Del Diamond, why are they playing two fall games,
and get his thoughts on the rotation. Who might be
the Friday night guy for Texas Baseball. Will he be
pitching for Texas on stired against Texas Tech. We'll get
into all that and more on today's program. We will
get into Inconceivable at about three forty, moving it back

(04:18):
in hour, but we'll get to it. Hey, we have
a Bill Belichick update, an update from that US Weekly cover.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
Jake.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
That believe you've read a couple times.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Now, right, I've read it backwards and forwards, inside out.
And tomorrow, by the way, will be your first Florida
Man Friday without greg Or. I I know that it's
it's a lot of pressure, but I think that, like
it always does, the Florida Man story will deliver.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
We're excited for that.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
So that's all that's coming up on today's program. Okay,
no Texas football this week. We heard from Sark on Monday.
He did not do his usual media availabilities today or yesterday.
There was no Longhorn Weekly with Shark. He got the
week off from US media folks. But college football does

(05:06):
not get the week off, and we talked about it yesterday, Jake.
There is some tantalizing matchups this Saturday. I think four
games featuring two top twenty five teams, and kind of
want to go through each one one by one and
just kind of look at what are we looking for
from this game? And I'll start with LSU in Ole

(05:28):
Miss So LSU number four in the country. Remember they
beat Clemson to start of the year, and all of
a sudden, it's man Brian Kelly's defense is back. Garrett
nuss Meyer MVP or Heisman rather sorry Heisman. And then
you know, LSU's kind of looked okay since that winever Clemson,
And now we've looked at Clemson's season and realized, oh,
Clemson actually is dogwater. They are not a good football team.

(05:52):
And LSU, I still think is a good football team.
But I'm curious, Jake, what I look forward from this game.
I want to see how backup quarterback Shambley is, the
Farris State transfer who's coming after Austin Simmons has been
banged up, you know, ankle injury. I think he wrecked
the fingernail off one of his throwing hands. He's had
a lot going on. But this LSU defense that has

(06:16):
looked good against Florida and Clemson, But at the same time,
Florida and Clemson's offenses have not looked good playing other opponents.
So is this LSU defense legit against Slank Kiffin in
that up tempo spread offense. That he likes to run.
Ole Miss has scored a lot of points this season. Well,
LSU's defense shut them down. Is Ole Miss maybe a

(06:38):
little bit overrated at number thirteen being four to zero.
That's what I'm looking for in that game on Saturday.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Yeah, and which version of the Old Miss Rebels do
we get? Do we get the Old Miss team that's
able to execute its high powered, spread them out throw
it offense in a big game like this, or do
we see what happened to them a couple of times
in some key spots last year and that was a

(07:05):
big time offensive letdown those games against Kentucky as well
as Florida. The reason why Jackson Dart fell down to
number twenty seven. Ole Miss needs to win in the trenches.
They need to be able to run the ball in
order to throw it. It's always been that way under
Lay and Kiffin and Uls. She's done a good job
against the run this season. Does that continue at two
thirty tomorrow? Big game to start our Saturday.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
The other top twenty five game, and this one probably
may not be as tantalizing as it was appealing as
it was maybe a week ago. That's number twenty one.
USC number twenty three Illinois. Now Illinois got boat raced
by Indiana. I heard a stat today that in the
second half, Illinois didn't have a single starter from their

(07:48):
secondary available in that game through the injuries. I think
a couple of cornerbacks had hurt their ankle. One player
was ejected for targeting, the other one was in concussion protocol.
So this may be USC and Lincoln Riley against Illinois's
second string secondary, even though it is being played in Champagne.
Probably figure it's going to be USC is going to

(08:10):
have a much bigger advantage. But jade My Ava Jake
has looked very good so far for the first couple
of weeks. Waymond Jordan very underrated running back. You know,
now USC is getting a little bit more attention, a
little bit more hype. You know, no one was talking
about them a week ago. Now a lot more conversations
about Lincoln Riley and the Trojans. I want to see
if they can come out on Saturday and really give

(08:31):
it to an Illinois team that is banged up.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Yeah, I just think Illinois it's the type of loss
where you know, you think about a Brett Bielom a
team they're going to come home. They're going to try
and re establish their identity right, that toughness that they
played with to give them that top ten ranking they
had going into last week. Although if you listened a
couple of weeks ago, I looked at Craig and said,
I don't know about Illinois up there.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
They have to prove it to me first.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
But it's not just the fact that they lost, it's
the way that they did, and I just I can't
quite I think Greg mackel would put it this way.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
I can't quite unsee it yet.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Meanwhile, USC has done a really good job of running
the football this year, and if you remember his Oklahoma
teams really really excelled on the ground. It wasn't just
your Caleb Williams and Kyler Murray's through the air. That's
what I like the most about USC's start, and if
they do that, I think they could win this game
by two scores.

Speaker 1 (09:21):
The other two games both at six thirty unfortunately, one
on NBC, one on ABC, the NBC offering Big Game,
the Big Ten. Number six Oregon at number three Penn State,
the first time we get to see Oregon at Happy
Valley in a conference matchup, and what I'm watching for
in this Jake is the quarterback battle. Dante Moore, who's

(09:42):
been excellent so far for Oregon eleven touchdowns, one interception
right there in the Heisman contender race against Drew Aller,
who was probably beyond a lot of people's big boards
for best quarterback in the country. He's had a quiet
start so far for Penn State. They are undefeated, Benny
Lyons getting three and a half points here at Happy Falley.

(10:03):
I'm curious to see which quarterback will rise to the
occasion in this game, and all of a sudden, whenever
this game Jake may find themselves at number one come Unday.

Speaker 2 (10:13):
Yeah, and I'll tell you Cameron, I'm not so sold
on Drew Aller, and just a couple times last year
I found his play to be a little bit shaky,
So he's got a chance to really show out in
this their first big test of the season. This Penn
State offense a lot like Texas to start the season,
a little bit of fits and starts for a group
that a lot was expected of. So we'll see if

(10:33):
Oregon gets out to a big lead, forces obvious passing situations.
Drew Aller for a very big guy with a very
strong arm. He's not so mobile, He's got a tendency
to sit back there if Oregon can tee off with
their pass rush. So I think early momentum will be
key in this game. Whoever jumps out to that first
lead is the team I like. In the other six
to thirty game, Alabama at Georgia. Seventeenth ranked Alabama too

(10:59):
and one this season. They're to Florida State against three no.

Speaker 1 (11:01):
Georgia, who easily could be two and one, got some
help from Tennessee's kicker and then able to pull out
the comeback victory in Knoxville last week in an incredible
game or was it two weeks ago?

Speaker 3 (11:13):
That was it was last week or two weeks ago?

Speaker 2 (11:15):
That was two weeks two weeks ago Tennessee recovered beat
UA b that's right last week.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Yeah, So Georgia finds themself three no, coming off an
open week, I believe then, and hosting an Alabama team
that has really struggled on the road under killing the Bower. Obviously,
Owen won this season on the road. If they're losing
to Florida State in a game where they just got
dominated on both sides of the ball, especially in the trenches.
And then last season on the road three losses at Vanderbilt,

(11:43):
at Tennessee, at Oklahoma, and the last one at Oklahoma
was a game they only scored three points in. So
for me, Jake, I'm watching has Alabama figured out their
road woes this in this season heading into Georgia and
then on the Georgia side, all of a sudden, this
team is running with confidence, coming back to beat Tennessee
to be the top ranked Tennessee team. In Gunnerstockton, not

(12:08):
Stetson Bennett, that quarterback. He made some big time posting
that game. I think Georgia could solidify himself also as
the best team in the country come Monday following this one.
If they come out and beat Alabama. They're only favored
by three and a half points. I think Georgia can
win this game by two touchdowns.

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Yeah, that line's a little fishy, but I'll tell you what.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
Gunner Stockton looks fantastic against Tennessee a couple of weeks ago,
but Georgia's defense did not. So if Ty Simpson is
able to get the ball out quickly, throw accurately on
the run, Simpson's a mobile guy for the guy that
he is in the pocket, he's pretty effective at escaping pressure,
but in that Florida State game, he would run, run, run,
extend the play and then miss the easy throw. So

(12:49):
if Simpson is able to not only use his legs
but hurt Georgia with his arm on those plays, that's
the way I think Alabama stays in charge.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
But look, it's a game.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Georgia's head circled after what happened in Tuscaloosa last year,
and I think the Dogs are the safer pick and
the rightful favorite.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
Even if it's only three and a half points.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
It's gonna be a fun one in Athens a night
time kickoff. Man, I can't wait to watch that game
from my cell phone at a wedding because yes, we've
heard all the jokes about man, it's would suck to
have a wedding this Saturday. Yet I'm one of those guys, unfortunately.
But gonna be a fun college football weekend. We'll continue
to talk about it today tomorrow and recap it all

(13:27):
on Monday.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
It's a Thursday here on the Craigway Show.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Glad to have you with us here, whether you're listening
on the Iheartragio app or from your car or streaming.
We are live streaming on YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, and
soon we're gonna have CJ. Vogo from on Texas Football
joining us, who to talk this about the Texas football team.
But up next, we're going to continue the preview the
Texas baseball season as the Longhorns back on the diamond

(13:52):
on Saturday. We're gonna hear from coach Jim Slason Ago
tell us what this Texas baseball team could look like
in twenty twenty six. Just getting started here on a Thursday,
and i'mternoon Cameron Parker with you, fill again for Craig Way,
who is out the rest of the week.

Speaker 3 (14:07):
We'll be back Monday.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
Jay Kerman is our producer pushing the ones and twos
behind the board here. I'm glad to have you with
us on thirteen hundred The Zone, streaming for free on
iHeartRadio app and also streaming live video wise on YouTube,
Twitter and Facebook. So we talked Texas football in the
first segment and college football coming up at two forty five, CJ.

(14:29):
Fogel from on Texas Football, we'll stop by and we'll
get all his thoughts on the material injury, the future
scheduling for Texas football, which is very, very tough, and
then we'll also get his non confidence superlatives so offensive MVP, defensive, MVP,
Newcomer of the Year, surprising, surprise player of the year

(14:50):
so far, and his favorite moment of the year. We
actually did that same segment with Nick Shulian, Mark Kigins
from Third and Halonghurn yesterday that is available on our
podcast page. A fun talk, fun chat with those guys.
We're also going to visit with Mark McCumber, former PGA
Tour player in member the nineteen eighty nine Ryder Cup
team on the US side actually tied that match. It's

(15:14):
only been two ties in Ryder Cup history. Last one
was nineteen eighty nine the Belfrey in which the Europeans
did retain the Cup. But Mark McCumber he went to
and one in that match and actually played alongside lifetime
Longhorn and Longhorn legend Tom Kite two and one victory
in match play. Marcumber went too and one that week.

(15:36):
So get his thoughts on the Ryder Cup what he's expecting.
He is a golf analyst for Serious XMS PGA Tour Radio,
so looking forward to that.

Speaker 3 (15:44):
But let's talk a little Texas baseball here.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
It's never too really the tok Texas baseball because well
they're playing in two days, that's right at Dell Diamond,
the Fall Classic Series for the Longhorns, playing two games,
one on Saturday against Texas Tech, which will be fun.
It's always puting to see the long Horns and Red
Raiders back on the diamond, no matter what conference they're in.

Speaker 3 (16:05):
One o'clock at Dell Diamond. I believe tickets are still available.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
And then next Friday, six thirty pm against Lamar at
the Ditch. So if you're looking for your baseball fix,
because they will want to be playing another baseball game
until February, go out and head out there and catch it.
It will not interfere with your Texas football viewing schedule,
might interfere with your USC Illinois game, but you can

(16:30):
always bring your phone with you and catch the game
live from the ballpark.

Speaker 3 (16:34):
So it's gonna be nice to not a hot day.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
Yeah, well, there's gonna be perfect like in the eighties,
I think, so looking forward to that. And let's hear
from head coach Jim Sloanstengel entering his second season as
the head coach the Longhorns.

Speaker 5 (16:47):
Yeah, welcome everybody, thanks for coming out today. Excited to
get fall practice going. We've been at it for probably
about a week, four or five days, and then looking
forward to the weekend against Texas Tech and get chance
to play a ball game against somebody else, which is always.

Speaker 6 (17:03):
Fun in the fall.

Speaker 5 (17:04):
Inexpensive experience is what we call it. Where it doesn't
it doesn't cost you much in terms of winter loss,
but it gives you a chance to play, you know,
somebody else and kind of get the heart rate up
a little bit and see how especially some of our
new players react. So looking forward to the opportunity on
Saturday and then again next Friday night.

Speaker 6 (17:23):
So fight up about it.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
So what will the Texas baseball team look like in
twenty twenty six. Well, losing some key players to both
the MLB Draft and just losing guys who just ran
out of eligibility, so we're going to have to be
replacing some big names heading into next season. But the
stat did a good job of really hitting the portal hard.

(17:47):
Signed an excellent class. Jared Spencer, of course, out of eligibility,
the Indiana State transfer who Unfortunately his season came to
an end a little bit earlier. Max Blou, Jaylen Flores,
Grayson Sognier all gone. Texas did add a couple guys
from the Portal Killed Freeman ended up signing, I believe
with the Chicago White Sox organization. Luke Dockton, who was

(18:10):
signing from Mississippi State, also heading off to the minor league.
So some guys ended up changing their minds going to
the major leagues. But what will Texas's roster look like
in twenty twenty six, Well, the pitching staff I have
high hopes for Dylan valant Is coming back the SEC
Freshman of the Year, Luke Harrison, Ruger Rojas, Kate being

(18:33):
another year of development, Thomas Burns, We're back, Jason Flores,
Ethan Walker, Hudson Hamilton, Cody Howard. So looking forward to
those guys coming back at the plate. Casey Borba, who
will probably be the biggest bat in terms of power.
He's returning alongside Ethan Mendoza, Jaydon du Blentier, Adrian Rodriguez,

(18:56):
Adrian and who had a fantastic year for Texas's past year,
and then Joana Williams in the outfield, ex signed it
for him. You know, we saw him flash a little
bit here and there. Bringing in the transfer Aiden Robbins
and Timo Bisera will be fun to see those guys,
Josh levingson coming in, Ashton Larson, Anthony Peck, Junior William Hill.
So here are slows thoughts on how this roster will

(19:18):
look like in twenty twenty six.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
Yeah, and I think I think we have a new
team almost every year in today's college athletics, between the
draft and the portal and different things that happened. So
so yeah, a lot of new especially position players, some
super talented young pitchers. But at the same time, you
know you have a guy like Mendoza sitting right there

(19:41):
in the middle of the field, Borba back and then
of course those three big pitchers and Riojas, Grubbs and Harrison.
Those Honestly, we had some great recruits. Nolan Staff did
a great job, but getting those three pitchers back is
kind of an anchor that.

Speaker 6 (19:57):
We really needed.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
So heading into Saturday's game against Texas Stech and Friday's
given against Lamar, what is coach Slans hoping to see
from his long corns in these two scrimmages.

Speaker 5 (20:07):
Well, one unique thing is, you know, as we move
closer and closer to with the new you know, house
settlement changes with the roster limits, is we don't have
that many players. You know, this time last year, I
think we had forty eight players. This year we have
thirty nine, I believe, So we have significantly more pitchers
than we do position players. So the guys are going
to get to play a lot. We're going to play

(20:28):
as many people as we can get out there. So
in terms of what I'm looking for is just to
see how guys handle hopefully a good crowd. And then
you know, as we're only we're only by the time
we play the game, we won't even be two weeks
in really to fall practice, so we haven't gotten everything
in our offense, signs different things that way, So I'm

(20:50):
sure there'll be some hiccups and there'll certainly be some
things that we can do in the spring that we
haven't even implemented in the fall.

Speaker 6 (20:57):
So I guess compared it to.

Speaker 5 (20:58):
Football, would like would be like playing a controlled scrimmage,
you know, two weeks into summer camp versus playing it,
you know, six weeks into summer camp.

Speaker 6 (21:06):
Would be significantly different.

Speaker 5 (21:08):
So hopefully, you know, just trying to keep everybody healthy
between now and then so they can go out there
and play and and just.

Speaker 6 (21:15):
Have a good time.

Speaker 5 (21:16):
We'll probably throw twelve different pitchers at least to start
the innings. Hopefully we'll be able to finish the innings.
But we have some really good young pitchers and a
couple you know, transfers that really excited to see pitch
and just see them in that environment versus kind of
the comfortability of dishfalk, whether it be an intersquad game

(21:39):
or you know, the bullpen.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
So it's slaunhed his really first true off season as
the head coach protections member. He took over the job
right after the conclusion of the college baseball season last year,
so that was the end of June, so a little
bit late in terms of being able to hit the
transfer portal in develop his roster. Now he has his
first true recruiting last coming in. What was that experience

(22:03):
like for Slash to rebuild this roster now in his
second season and what was different from his time at
A and M as opposed to also his first season
last year as Texas coming in at the tail end
of the season.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
Unfortunately, we had more time than we wanted to have.
You know, I mean even even if you are playing
in Omaha, have that experience too, where you're you're playing
in Omaha, trying to build a team, you know, at
night after the games, doing zooms from your hotel in Omaha.
But you know, last year ended prematurely for us. It
did give us time to bring a lot of guys

(22:36):
on visits. You know, it falls the way it's going
to fall, and and so the experience was good. You know,
we had an SEC championship to hang our hat on,
We had the same group of coaches back. There wasn't
nearly as much outside noise as was the previous summer.
You know, we weren't pleased about how the season ended,

(22:58):
but at the same time, you know, we accomplished a
fair amount and so I think I think that gave
people a reason to be excited to be a part
of us, and other than just the fact that it
is Texas, which is which is the primary reason they
chose to come here. But guys like Tenny and Robbins
and Bessara and Hayden, the few, Ashton Larson, Josh Livingston,

(23:19):
you know, those guys are all, you know, really really
good players that were heavily sought after and and they're
going to play big roles for our team this year.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
Okay, so you heard Schlaansch's name off those transfers. Carson
Tinny the catcher, johsh Livingston who's probably going to play
first base, Timo Pisa at shortstop, Ashton Larson outfield, they're
probably left field, Aiden Robbins possibly right field, and then
Hayden the Few, the right handed pitcher. So here's a
little bit more of thoughts from Schloss on the process
of integrating those transfers into the program.

Speaker 6 (23:48):
Yeah, we've been doing that for a while.

Speaker 5 (23:49):
You know, if I feel really good about our processes,
our culture, how we establish that, how we maintain it,
how we keep it going.

Speaker 6 (23:57):
It's super reliant on players and turning players.

Speaker 5 (24:00):
So you know, that's a little bit of a challenge
on this particular team. The pitching staff not at all,
because we do return you know, the Burns and Harrison, Riojas, Grubbs,
those guys. But from a position player standpoint, that's been
something that we have to work at and that's fine.
That's what the coach's job is, and that's what our
job is. So we've been doing that for a while,
whether it be at TCU, transitioning to A and M

(24:23):
and then and in here. So that's the thing that
I'm most confident in is getting the players to buy
into what we do, and that's ultimately that's my job.

Speaker 6 (24:33):
And then the baseball stuff will take care of itself.

Speaker 1 (24:36):
So where will these guys all start? Who will be
the number one pitcher on Friday? Find out later on
the show. We're gonna hear more from Jim Sloshtingle throughout
today's program, but we're going to take a break now
and come back. Just getting started here our one of
the day's program here on the Creigway Show. Back here
on the craig Ways Show, Cameron Parker with you Jake
Herman behind the board. This will be a very very

(24:57):
quick sement because we have CG Vocal joining us about
two forty five live here on the program talking Texas football.
But at about twenty three minutes, the official pairings for
tomorrow's Ryder Cup matches will be broadcasted live on the
Golf Channel, and wanted to get to some Ryder Cup sound.

(25:17):
We're gonna play more of it in the four o'clock
because there's just some great chirping going on already between
the Americans in the Europeans. It's going to be such
a fun week and at Bethpage Black. But outside of
the chirping, this is a very good, very good quote
from Roy mcclroy, who's always always has a great perspective
on the game of golf. He's always very open in

(25:38):
his press conferences, and he's a great interview and so,
you know, a lot of you know, anti American shtick
has been coming from the European says, you know, not
surprising Americans first Europeans this week, but Roy was asked
about his perspective, his thoughts on what America was like

(25:59):
when he was growing up in in Europe, in how
it has changed since coming over to USA.

Speaker 7 (26:06):
Everyone wanted to make it in America. It's the land
of opportunity, and I still believe it's the greatest country
in the world. And if you come here and you
work hard and you dedicate yourself, you can you can
be or do whatever you want.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
I am unbelievably.

Speaker 7 (26:22):
Grateful and lucky that I got to come to America
early on, and I think success is celebrated here. I
think there's a there's a wonderful sense of work ethic.
And yeah, as you know, I live here. My wife
is America, my daughter is American. You know, I have
a lot of affinity towards this country and and I

(26:45):
think everyone that lives here should have that same affinity
because it is.

Speaker 3 (26:48):
It's a wonderful It is a wonderful place.

Speaker 1 (26:50):
I just, you know, I like Roy. You know, at first,
I think when he was coming up, you know, he's
this cocky kid. You know a lot of people like
myself were Tiger Woods fans and her this cocky kid
from wherever, Northern Ireland, something like that, He's gonna the throne, Tiger.
But you know, seeing him win the Masters this season
to complete the Grand Slam, he always is very reflective

(27:12):
on his career and that's a really good perspective for
Rory when he easily could have just dumped on.

Speaker 3 (27:19):
America with that comment.

Speaker 2 (27:21):
You know, so many of my friends are Rory haters,
and they root against Rory and love to bask in
his struggle for the career Grand Slam. I couldn't be
happier for him for the season that he's had. Obviously
some things have gone on off the course of the
past couple of years with Rory that not everybody feels
the same way about. But I mean as a golfer,

(27:44):
I just have nothing but respect for his career and
kind of the perspective, like you said that he brings
in most situations.

Speaker 1 (27:50):
Yeah, he's definitely been you know, after the Masters somehow,
like he became annoying with just the way he was
treating the media.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
Yeah, I got a little pretty shouting.

Speaker 1 (28:00):
And preachy and stuff. But all in all, I think
it was such an emotional victory for Rory, and we
kind of saw that emotional letdown throughout the season. But
you know, he won two three weeks ago the Irish Open.
I still can't go up the fact that he came
to the eighteenth hole needing an eagle to force the playoff,
made eagle in one on the first playoff hole.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
I mean, and you.

Speaker 1 (28:24):
Mentioned it during during the break here that you think
Rory is going to have a real big week this
week at Bethpage Black and for the Europeans to win,
he kind of has to.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
I do. I think he'll play well.

Speaker 2 (28:33):
I think he'll set the tone I think he kind
of leans into the spirit of the event, whereas kind
of the Americans over the last couple of Ryder Cups
have kind of had that more laid back personality for
the most part. So I think that I think that
Rory is primed given the season he's had given this
as a potential exclamation point on this little era of

(28:56):
his career. Yeah, I'd expect big things this weekend from him.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
We're going to find out.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Ryder Cup begins tomorrow the Friday matches at Bethpage Black.
The Europeans trying to retain the Cup and when on
American soil they did it twelve years ago the miracle
at Madina and Roy McRoy was on that team trying
to do it once again. Only thirty seven European players
have won on American soil. Will they add to that list?

(29:22):
After this weekend. We're gonna preview the Rider a couple
bit more next hour with Mark McCumber sirius xm PJ
tour radio analyst and former member of the Ryder Cup team.
But up next CJ. Fogel from on Texas Football. Are
the Long courn still a college football playoff team? We'll
get CJ's take up next year on The Greg Way Show.

(29:43):
Before we close out this week, got to visit with
my good friend CJ. Fogel from On Texas Football. Make
sure you follow him on Twitter at CJ Fogel underscore OTF.
He's a college football recruiting insider and college football analysts
for On Texas Football and CJ. How are you enjoying

(30:04):
the bye week this week? And I'm guessing you're probably
waking up Saturday We're gonna have all four TVs on
and you're not gonna move an inch all day?

Speaker 3 (30:12):
Am I correct in saying that?

Speaker 8 (30:13):
Yeah, I would say you're pretty darn close.

Speaker 4 (30:16):
Cam.

Speaker 9 (30:16):
I mean, man, I'm thinking already. You know, I know
it's only a day or two away, but get the
cinnamon buns warmed up in the morning, take my feet
up around ten thirty, and probably not move unless it's
to the fridge for the next twelve hours or so.

Speaker 8 (30:30):
That sounds pretty ideal for a bye week.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
That's an ideal Saturday.

Speaker 1 (30:34):
It was not an ideal week for Oklahoma the program
in the fans with the news of John Mattier undergoing
surgery for a broken bone in his throwing hand and
the expectation is he's probably going to be out at
least a month, which means he's gonna likely miss the
Red River rivalry against Texas in what three weeks time,

(30:56):
two weeks time. What was your initial reaction to hearing
the news about John the Tier.

Speaker 8 (31:01):
Well, first, it's unfortunate.

Speaker 9 (31:03):
Anytime you have a candidate in the world of college
football that is being talked about as you know, a
Heisman level guy, it's unfortunate to see them or their
season cuts short or robbed of potential Heisman level play. Right,
that's unfortunate for the game. You know, we've seen it
a few years previous where guys who around the middle

(31:24):
of the year were looking like they could see their
name called in New York. And you know, it sucks
for the sport. Sucks as a fan of the sport.
It sucks to see good football robbed of us. Now,
for Oklahoma specifically, it really sucks for them, and I
don't think it needs to go much further than that,
but he was their entire offense.

Speaker 8 (31:41):
You know, they don't have a running game SEC.

Speaker 9 (31:44):
Oklahoma is dead last in the SEC and rush arts
per game by running backs, mistackles forced by this season
by running backs.

Speaker 8 (31:52):
They don't have a running game.

Speaker 9 (31:53):
They can't rely on a backup quarterback to come in
and hand the ball off and see success. So for
the Sooner specifically, look, they need to get him back
and it's it's obviously unfortunate that he was injured and
is going to miss time. But if you look at
where they are in their schedule, they're on a bye week,
they go to Kent State and then Texas. So look,
I know that you don't like to see a month

(32:14):
of time taken away from anybody, but for Oklahoma in
terms of getting to the College Football Playoffs, this is
the best case scenario foreign injury to or occur and
for him to get back on the field without missing
too much time.

Speaker 1 (32:24):
Yeah, their final month of SEC scheduling is absolute hell.
So if you're gonna pick a month to miss, because
South Carolina after Texas and the way they've looked the
last couple of weeks, they were not the team that
we thought going this year. If they go two to one,
not three weeks stretch, losing the Texas but beating Kent
State in South Carolina, they're still in the hunt for
the College Fotball playoff. They're still in the hunt for

(32:46):
maybe an SEC championship game appearance, but if it's a
next month, Oklahoma has no chance at all.

Speaker 8 (32:54):
Yeah, I'm right there with you.

Speaker 9 (32:55):
And again, South Carolina maybe the most disappointing team so
far in the SEC. You know, talk about how Oklahoma
can't run the football, South Carolina is basically equivalent, you know,
averaging right around seventy one and a half yards per
game on the ground. That's pretty bad by just their
running backs. Now, we've seen Leonora Sellers put the cape
on and be Superman before, but is that really a

(33:16):
sustainable formula to do.

Speaker 8 (33:19):
That for the next eight weeks of football? I don't
think so.

Speaker 9 (33:21):
And again we've seen already when your quarterback is susceptible
to taking hits and is asked to do a lot
with his legs, all injuries occur. So for South Carolina
and Oklahoma, you gotta lean with which team has the
better defense at the moment, and that does very clearly Oklahoma.

Speaker 1 (33:37):
If Materier does miss to the Cotton Bowl, we've kind
of we've entered a period now, CJ in this game
where because we both grew up right, Sam Bradford first,
Colt McCoy throwing Landry Fields into that mix. We had
Sam Ellinger dueling against Baker Mayfield, which was fun, Casey
Thompson against Kill Williams. The last couple of years, it

(33:58):
seems like one of the core backs is coming in
injured at some point. Right It felt like Quentin you
were always returning from an injury heading into the Oklahoma game.
And then last season Michael Hawkins Junior, which we might
get a repeat this season. Davis Bevell, which I do
not think will be remembered in the Oklahoma history books.
Also three years ago, and was that fifty two to nothing.

(34:19):
We've been robbed of these quarterback matchups. What it felt like,
you know, the Cotton Bowl was going to feature a
pair of two top ten teams, and it still might
going into three weeks, but we're not going to have
two top ten quarterbacks.

Speaker 9 (34:32):
No, And that is kind of the unfortunate swing and
trend right now in this series, is that it was,
you know, a top ten quarterback matchup every single year.
You know, we used to look at Texas versus Oklahoma,
especially in those Big twelve days as all right, first
team to forty, first team to forty five, they're probably
coming away with the golden the golden hats. So look,

(34:54):
it's it's no longer that right. You moved to the
SEC your identity changes. That's certainly been the case on
the Brent Venables. Obviously, quarterback luck has been pretty pretty
unfortunate for the Sooners in that regard over the last
four years in this game.

Speaker 8 (35:07):
But no, it's thinks again.

Speaker 9 (35:10):
And I'm looking at it as a fan of college football,
someone who enjoys watching rivalry games out their peak.

Speaker 8 (35:15):
When one team is handcuffed by not having their starting.

Speaker 9 (35:18):
Quarterback, that stinks, man, that that's unfortunate for everybody involved.
It robs the country of a you know what this
game and what this rivalry is all about. But if
you're Texas and you're still working out some of those
kings on your own side of the football, you got
to be pretty thrilled that you might go to Dallas
and see somebody other than Jack mat Tier in this game.

Speaker 1 (35:40):
Yeah, it went from you know, being first one the
forty next two weeks for Texas, first one the thirteen
might be enough to be Florida in Oklahoma.

Speaker 8 (35:50):
It's kind of trending that way.

Speaker 9 (35:51):
Who would have thought that, you know, DJ Lagway for
his struggles, arch manding for his struggles early in the season,
this is where this game would be going into this
this matchup a week from now. On top of that, Look,
I've been surprised by Florida because jayde and Ball one
of the top running backs in the country. I think
you look at you know, Eugene Wilson, Dallas Wilson. You

(36:11):
know they've got some guys at Florida that can make plays.
And for whatever the reason, whether it's DJ Lagway's health,
whether it's Florida's inability to keep him up right and
protected in the pocket, that offense has been atrocious. Now
both teams are going to bring a defense to the
swamp which quarterback can make plays?

Speaker 8 (36:27):
Right now?

Speaker 9 (36:27):
Look, I think arch Manning's got a little bit more
confidence in him, a little bit more health him as well.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
Do you see enough from Texas in that fifty five
to nothing victory over Sam Houston make you feel better
about this team heading in the conference play or are
you wary because it was Sam Houston.

Speaker 8 (36:43):
It's twofold, right, you know, Sam Houston's not a great team.

Speaker 9 (36:46):
You know, they're probably one of the worst in POWERFU
or excuse me, in the FBS. But point being, we've
seen Texas play some if He teams already this season
where they didn't look half as good as what we
saw last Saturday. So to get out there to get
the confidence back from March. Look, and we can talk
about the swagger and the stairdown. Sign me all the
way up for that, because that was something that we

(37:07):
hadn't seen from March going all the way back to
last year against Texas A and M and I think
that's what fuels him as a quarterback. Playing with that chip,
playing with that swagger. He looked like a guy that
was shell shocked the first three weeks, especially after coming
off of the Ohio State game. So to see that
that confidence has risen in his game, that is my
biggest takeaway, regardless of anything else that happened in that

(37:29):
game on both sides of the ball.

Speaker 1 (37:30):
CJ stick around with us, if you don't mind, I
want to get your non confidence superlatives.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
We need to break.

Speaker 1 (37:36):
We're going to close that hour one, but hour two
up next here on The Craig Way Show. Here we

(38:00):
go with our number two of today's program, the Craigways Show.
I'm Cameron Parker alongside Jay Kerman. Craigway out this week.
We'll be back next Monday. Texas football on their bye week,
but does not mean we will not talk Texas football
and we continue our conversation with CJ. Vogel from on
Texas Football. Okay, Cej, let's pick up WARB left off.

(38:20):
Want to get your non conference superlatives, So we'll start
with your pick for offensive MVP through the first four weeks,
and you know, yeah, there probably really isn't one, but
still want to get your thoughts on who your pick
would be.

Speaker 9 (38:34):
Yeah, that's a pretty interesting question considering how rocky it's been. Right,
You sometimes get a good performance out of Archie, sometimes
get a good performance out of Wingo.

Speaker 8 (38:42):
The offensive line has kind of just been iffy the
entire way. If I had to.

Speaker 9 (38:46):
Pick one and it it might feel a little weird
given that he doesn't lead the team in statistical receptions
or yards or touchdowns.

Speaker 8 (38:54):
Well, he does in touchdowns.

Speaker 9 (38:55):
But Parker Livingstone for me, was the guy that I
was looking at very early, especially the first three weeks,
saying where would this offense have been without him?

Speaker 8 (39:04):
Right?

Speaker 9 (39:04):
You know, he scores the one touchdown against Ohio State. Obviously,
we talked about the big performance in Week two. That
was the one shining spot for me early in this season.
Now with Wingo and Arch looking like they might be
back connecting with one another, we'll see where that goes.

Speaker 8 (39:19):
But through four weeks, it was Livingston for me.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
Defensive MVP ooh, I have to go.

Speaker 8 (39:25):
With Jolana McDonald, I do.

Speaker 9 (39:27):
And it's interesting because look, Texas has eleven sacks this year.

Speaker 8 (39:31):
That's great, that's top twenty in the country.

Speaker 9 (39:33):
Those eleven sacks are distributed amongst ten different players, right,
so there's not just been one guy like a Colin
Simmons that we may be expected to be up there
in the three four five sack range. For four weeks,
everybody's getting involved. Yet you look in the back end.
You got two interceptions from Jelan McDonald, a number of
big time tackles. Oh, and he's also forced another interception.

(39:53):
But I went to Jayleen Gilbo on a tips pass
earlier this year as well.

Speaker 8 (39:57):
Start called him a turnover machine. I'm calling him the
MVP for four weeks.

Speaker 1 (40:01):
Newcomer of the Year, and we'll allow freshman rechord freshman
true freshman along with with transferred portal guys.

Speaker 9 (40:09):
For this answer, I think the simple answer is Grace
and Littleton. You know, you see a true freshman starting
in the in you know, the starting twenty two for
the Texas Longhorns. You're a stud, right, But I think
the biggest surprise for me so far this year has
been hero Canee. You know, I think he was a
guy that was maybe looked at as a fourth or
maybe fifth defensive lineman when you rank the five that

(40:30):
Texas brought in this past offseason, and yet he's the
guy that Texas can't take off the field, right. He
leads your defensive line room in snaps this year and
he's been tremendous. He's probably my biggest surprise. But newcomer altogether,
I have to go with the guy that's starting right now,
Grayson Littleton.

Speaker 3 (40:47):
Littleton.

Speaker 1 (40:47):
I mean just I think cornerback is the hard deposition
to play defensively. The come out your first game, you're
playing at the horseshoot, in your task with Jeremiah Smith,
I mean, he had Jeremiah Smith changing glow us. You
know midway through the first half that you got to
give him props for that, right.

Speaker 9 (41:06):
I think that that alone is the biggest sign of
approval you could have in a week one game by
any freshman.

Speaker 3 (41:13):
A surprise player of the season so far.

Speaker 8 (41:18):
Surprise player. Now this is interesting.

Speaker 9 (41:20):
I could go a number of ways, because look, your
special teams have been pretty solid.

Speaker 6 (41:23):
Right.

Speaker 8 (41:23):
Could I go with a kicker or a punter?

Speaker 9 (41:25):
Maybe I won't, though maybe I should have just saved
Hero Canoe for surprise player.

Speaker 8 (41:30):
But how about ty Anthony Smith?

Speaker 9 (41:32):
Yeah, you know a guy who I think folks behind
the scenes knew right away that this was going to
be a star for Texas, Right, so I called him
that several times in the off season, But for the
common fan maybe didn't know a lot about him. Guy
that was one hundred and ninety five pounds when he
arrived a year and a half ago. Now he's running
the middle of your field next to Anthony Hill and
Leong Lafal total stud forced fumble already on the season,

(41:53):
second on the team in tackles.

Speaker 8 (41:55):
Ty Anthony Smith total stud.

Speaker 1 (41:57):
What's his nickname from from the his teammates? Is it
like tornado or shark, hur hurricane hurricane? It was something
with the natural lea shark in there, Sharknado, Sharknato could be,
could be. You know the thing about non conference place,
CJ is trying to figure out, you know, the others
are two deep and stuff, but seeing the guys who
get snaps and who don't. I went in assuming that

(42:20):
Derek Williams would pick back we left off, you know,
be starting safety.

Speaker 3 (42:23):
It has not been the case.

Speaker 1 (42:25):
I didn't think ty Anthony Smith would get so so
many reps at linebacker. That has been the case. And
and he has really shown out the linebacking corps. I mean,
we knew it was going to be really good. But
between him, Leanngo Lafoul and Anthony Hill, I mean, we
haven't even heard. We haven't really talked about Anthony Hill
at all this season because we haven't had to because
he's such a good job. And then Lafoul and t

(42:47):
Anthony Smith had been excellent too.

Speaker 9 (42:49):
Yeah, it's interesting how that plays out. But again, these
first four weeks are a lot of how you figure
out if you're Steve Sarkisian, if your Pete Kwakowski, where
you stand on that defensive side of the ball right,
so you have to throw, you know, Anthony Hill. You
have to throw Malik Muhammad on the bench at some
point to get an idea of what's behind them in
case that their number is called later on in the season.

(43:11):
I will say, one of the other surprises that just
came to me Cam is how about you know Moslim? Yeah,
you know it's a guy again with the sack already
under his belt. He's been tasked very early in this
season where Texas deployed him on those goal line situations,
goal line formations defensively at one of those edge spots.

Speaker 8 (43:31):
At two hundred and sixty pounds, he looks the part.

Speaker 9 (43:33):
He looks like a guy Texas will be relying upon
very heavily moving forwards as well.

Speaker 1 (43:39):
What's been your favorite moment of the season so far
Texas football wise.

Speaker 8 (43:44):
It's weird to say, but.

Speaker 9 (43:45):
I think it was just seeing Arcs have that celebratory
stance and hover over in the end zone and right again,
I'm kind of with him thinking maybe it was a
little bit much, maybe there should have been a flag there,
but I can't have a quarterback. You cahn't win without
a quarterback having emotion in the sec And again, if
that's who Arch will be moving forward, I think that's

(44:07):
a great sign for Texas.

Speaker 1 (44:09):
I think there's always a lot of props given the
players when they when they talk trash, I think depending
on who they are, Like Baker Mayfield, right, and their
comeback win over the Texans, and then at football two
weeks ago, hit that long run. I think it was
at fourth down and he got up in the face
of one of the Texans defenders, right, And like you know,
first take loves that. Twitter loves it. But maybe it's

(44:29):
because Baker is an underdog, whereas Arch is, you know,
this real hyped up player, and he gets taken the
town on social media for it. But as you talked about,
you need a motion to be able to play in
this conference. You need swager, you need confidence. In the
first three weeks, you know, we didn't really see that
out of Arch. Right after that first touchdown pass to
Livingston against Sales State, right, he was on the sideline
and they showed him on the jumbo tron and he

(44:50):
kind of let that yell, right, that's okay. There's the
Arch banning that you know we kind of saw last
year in bits and spurts against A and M against
Mississippi State, against UTSA, and then we didn't see it
really for the last three weeks, and then he comes
out and shows that I'm all for it. Throw the flag.
I don't care give him taunting, but at least Arch
is being Arch.

Speaker 8 (45:10):
Yeah, that's exactly it.

Speaker 9 (45:12):
And I think that, especially coming from your quarterback, he
is infectious.

Speaker 4 (45:16):
Right.

Speaker 9 (45:16):
You know, we look at the performance of the guys
up front.

Speaker 8 (45:20):
It's been a rocky road for the Texas offensive line.

Speaker 9 (45:22):
But I guarantee you after they saw that their quarterback
was in the face of a defensive back screaming this
is my house or whatever Arch said. I guarantee that
those offensive linemen saw that and said, oh, if he
can play like that, I can play like this. I
can add a little bit more juice to my game.
I can play with a little bit more emotion now
within the rules, right, I'm sure he got to the

(45:43):
sideline was like, yo, hey, fifteen yards against Sam Houston
State might not seem like a lot on the kickoff,
but when we go play in Dallas, when we go
play against Texas A and m watch yourself there. But
I do think that having that swagger is so infectious
when it's your quarterback. That's doing it right. And on
the defensive side of the ball, it's Anthony Hill. You know,
the way that he talks, the way that he says,

(46:03):
y'all aren't getting a single yard on me. That triculates
throughout the entire three levels of that defense. And it's great.
We've seen obviously what Texas has done defensively. Now let's
see what that offense can do. As the same heartbeat
of Arch Manning starts to resonate a little bit more
with the rest of.

Speaker 8 (46:19):
The offensive unit.

Speaker 3 (46:20):
Is Texas a college football team? Playoff team right now?

Speaker 8 (46:25):
Yes?

Speaker 9 (46:26):
And I say that because you have a top five
defense in the entire country, you do. And you don't
need Arch to be what Arch was expected to be
coming end of the year. You just need them to
be good enough. And right now, good enough is twenty
one points. Texas is twenty six and two since the
beginning of twenty twenty three. When they score twenty one
points or more, it's pretty good.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
After this bye week, you got five straight games, four
on the road. Then they come back for Vanderbilt love
a name kick got before and open week against Georgia.
What record prediction do you have Texas going the next
five games.

Speaker 3 (47:01):
Ooh.

Speaker 9 (47:03):
I think obviously these next two games are gonna be key.
I think Texas ends up winning both. Obviously, quarterback health
certainly favoring the Longhorns at the moment, I think you're
able to get through the next three games as well.

Speaker 8 (47:16):
I have Texas right now at eight and one.

Speaker 9 (47:19):
I do, and it's all because of that defense that
Texas has behind them.

Speaker 3 (47:24):
They're going to be favored in these next five games.

Speaker 1 (47:26):
But it's also kind of hard to talk yourself into
them going five to zero. I kind of I still
want to see a complete game against Florida. I don't
think we're gonna get it. I think the next two
weeks are going to be a defensive slug vest but
just kind of seeing Art make those next steps will
be key. Okay, the game you are most excited for
this weekend to watch?

Speaker 9 (47:45):
Oh, this weekend, it's not in the SEC. You know, oddly,
it's not Alabama Georgia. But I'm looking across. I think
Penn State Oregon is the best game of the of
the afternoon. And it's weird because I've talked about this previously.
I think the best teams in the country this year
aren't in the SEC. I think you could probably go
five deep and say that they're elsewhere in the country,

(48:07):
and that starts in the Big Ten. You know, I
do think that Big Ten has a higher ceiling of
its top teams right now than the SEC.

Speaker 8 (48:16):
I'm not a believer in LSU, you know.

Speaker 9 (48:18):
I do think Georgia is the best team in the
SEC at the moment, though Alabama's playing great. But I'm
looking at what Penn State was expected to.

Speaker 8 (48:26):
Be coming into the year as a preseason favorite.

Speaker 9 (48:28):
They haven't lived up to that offensively, and I do
think Oregon with Dante More is one of the best
teams in the entire country as well.

Speaker 2 (48:35):
Looking even further away, what do you make of Miami start?

Speaker 8 (48:40):
Yeah, I've been surprised.

Speaker 9 (48:42):
Yet here I am thinking, uh no shot coming into
the year, would I get back into the hype of
Carson Beck. Yet about a week ago I placed Carson
Beck to win the Heisman, So it appears I'm back
on the Carson back train. I like what they do
over there, getting their quarterback to find where the ball
needs to go. And I don't know if if there's
an offensive line in the country that provides a cleaner

(49:02):
pocket for their quarterback than Miami. They do a tremendous
job of pass protection. When you have a veteran quarterback,
that's all you need. He will find where the ball
can go. After that, they're playing just hard enough defensively
as well.

Speaker 8 (49:14):
They're a very scary team in my opinion.

Speaker 1 (49:16):
They have Florida State believe in two weeks and after
that no more top twenty five teams, so they could
cruise to Charlotte for the ACC title game. Will win
that and Carson Beck will find himself in New York.

Speaker 3 (49:29):
CJ. Thanks for the time.

Speaker 1 (49:31):
Enjoy Saturday, Enjoy all the beer you will drink, and
try not to move too much.

Speaker 3 (49:35):
How about that?

Speaker 8 (49:36):
Hey, that sounds like a dream Saturday for me.

Speaker 3 (49:39):
This sounds good. We'll see you Monday, brother.

Speaker 8 (49:41):
All right, guys, thank you all. CJ.

Speaker 1 (49:42):
Fogo from on Texas Football. Make sure you check out
the on Texas Football YouTube channel. They have all the
action you need. Also on Texas football dot Com step
to date with the latest surrounding Texas football. Okay, we're
going to continue our Ryder Cup p review with a
member of the nineteen eighty nine Ryder Cup team. He

(50:03):
actually played with Tom Kite. It's Mark McCumber joining us
next on the Craig Way Show. If you're at Betpage
Black this weekend, you'll probably hear this song at least
once on the first tea at the Ryder Cup as
the Americans hosting the Europeans, as the Europeans trying to
win on away soil and at least retain the Cup,

(50:26):
while the Americans are trying to avenge their loss in
the Ryder Cup in twenty twenty three in Rome, very ugly,
ugly loss on foreign soil. And the Ryder Cup pairings
actually have just been released for the morning session, as

(50:47):
we'll take a look at those with a guy leading
off who isn't that surprising, It'll be Bryson the Shambo
peered with Justin Thomas and John Rahm in to the
Americans have largely dominated this competition, but the Europeans have
played very well basically going back to nineteen eighty five.

(51:10):
In fact, the last time there was a tie in
the Ryder Cup, this guy right here was playing it
in nineteen eighty nine. He is ten time PGA Tour
winner Mark McCumber. He is a Players Champion, a member
of the nineteen eighty nine Ryder Cup team for the Americans,
and you can also hear him on the Serrix XMPGA

(51:31):
tour radio channel. Mark, good afternoon, Thanks for joining us.

Speaker 4 (51:35):
Yeah, happy to do it.

Speaker 3 (51:36):
How you guys doing Hey, we're doing great.

Speaker 1 (51:38):
We are less than twenty four hours away from the
Ryder Cup. It's always a fantastic weekend of golf. And
I want to touch on your Ryder Cup experience. You
played as a rookie in nineteen eighty nine. In fact,
there were five rookies on the American side, just one
on the European side. You're coming off a home defeat
to the Europeans in America. What is your lasting memory

(52:01):
of the nineteen eighty nine Ryder Cup?

Speaker 4 (52:04):
There are many. I was a rookie.

Speaker 10 (52:06):
As far as first Ryder Cup, I had played a
World Cup with Ben Crenshaw. You're a native hero and
a great friend of mine in Royal Melbourn. I'd played
on other international teams, but that was my first Ryder Cup.
But I wasn't a rookie on tour. I was thirty
six years old, thirty seven, so I had a lot
of experience that and believe it or not, the PGA

(52:27):
Tour School to get your card probably the two most
pressure packed events you can play, and the Ryder Cup
is very special. And the year we played was extremely
special because, as you mentioned, we lost in eighty seven
for the first time, I believe in American soul at
Mirrorfield Jack Nichols's course, we lost in eighty five at
the Belfry where we were playing in eighty nine, and

(52:47):
we had never lost to in a row. So it
was a bunch of hype, a serious amount of hype.

Speaker 1 (52:53):
As you mentioned the rookie aspect of it, there was
five rookie players on the American team, just one on
the European side. Was that a big talking point going
into the Belfrey nineteen eighty nine.

Speaker 10 (53:06):
To be honest with you, it wasn't. You know, I
would not have known now that you say that. I
think it was Zinger in my first Ken Greens first,
Kalkoveci is first. I don't know who the fifth was,
maybe Marcomir but our chip back.

Speaker 4 (53:20):
But it wasn't.

Speaker 10 (53:21):
It really wasn't. As a matter of fact, I was
talking to somebody the other day. I was sitting next
to Freddy Couples at the dinner the gala dinner, I believe,
two nights before the event, and both captains get up introduce.

Speaker 4 (53:32):
Their teams, and.

Speaker 10 (53:35):
Raymond Floyd announces us as saying the twelve best players
in the world. If we kind of smiled and we
said we're pretty good. But Freddie Couples looked to me
it was his first Ryder Cup when he was younger,
and he kind of goed. He goes, I think I
see Sevy over there and Faldo over there and loves
him over there. So we went in with a lot

(53:56):
of confidence. But every player who's on that team, whatever side,
you're nervous, and it's fun to be nervous. I embrace that.
I only I love to be nervous. Does it mean
I It just meant I cared. But it really wasn't
a big talking point. Both teams had great players. But
now that you say it, maybe that caught up was
a bit Payne Stewart I think that was his rookie

(54:17):
one too. But we had an interesting Sunday, I know that,
with a lot of losses on the final hole, but
then we won the last three matches to get out
of there with a tie, which at the time we
would not have been happy with, but the way that
they went it turned out to be probably the best
finish we could have asked for.

Speaker 1 (54:33):
Yeah, let's dive in a little bit deeper on that
Sunday because the Americans, you guys were training nine to
seven through Europeans on Sunday's single matches, and actually it
came down. The retaining point for the Europeans came from
Jose Maria Kennizaris. He defeated ken Green one up, and
I think ken Green missed about a five foot putt
to win that hole. But during your match, you were
the match behind ken Green. Was there any point during

(54:56):
that round where you thought, oh, oh, this may come
down to me the key miss thing alive.

Speaker 10 (55:02):
I would have been happy if it did, But I
will be honest with you.

Speaker 4 (55:04):
I got it is a team event.

Speaker 10 (55:07):
No hole, that last hole, that point is no more
important than the first point of the first natural Friday.
But I'm standing in the fairway when ken Green missed
and then kennaz Aries made about a three or four
foot to three footer to seal the fourteen points for them,
and that meant they retain the cup, and it doesn't
mean you lost. And next to me in the fairway

(55:27):
on this incredibly hard all. I had two iron left,
you know, probably two twenty to a three tier green.
I'm playing with Gordon Brand We're built five or six
hunderd for the day, and we're tied, and Raymond's next
to me, and they all charged the green, you know,
they all run on the green, jumping up and down.

Speaker 4 (55:43):
I looked at Raymond, I said, have we just lost?

Speaker 10 (55:45):
And he said, well, Mark, if you don't win and
Landy doesn't win and Curtis don't win, it doesn't win.
We've got to win these last three points to get
out of here with a tie. And I didn't say
it to him, but I said to myself, as I
like golf history, and I read so many stories about
the Ryder Cup, and the books that are written always
say the winning point was by Sam Torrents in nineteen

(56:11):
nineteen eighty five, and the winning point was by even
Darcy on the eighteenth grade at Mirfield eighty seven. And
I said, the last thing I want is the losing
point was by mart mcumbers. The only time I felt selfish,
so that kind of motivated me just to bear.

Speaker 4 (56:26):
Down and do what I could do.

Speaker 10 (56:27):
And I ended up winning one up over Gordon brand
Landy came in beat Wousdom and this was Curtis Strange.
When he was Curtis Strange with full sales. I had
had the pleasure of finishing second to him, I guess
just a few months earlier at the US Open in
New York and Rochester at oak Hill, and he was,

(56:49):
you know, he was in full form. He comes to
the last hole playing Faldough who was you know, he
and Seve their leader, solid as a rock.

Speaker 4 (56:58):
And on the last hole he had.

Speaker 10 (56:59):
A long iron in there and we're all the green,
you know, knowing he had to win and if it
didn't lip out, it almost did. I mean, so he
came into the whole one up, only at the time
ended up winning I think two and zero. So it
was kind of a disappointment but then a relief, both
both emotions.

Speaker 1 (57:14):
Did you say you had a two iron from the
fairway heading in the eighteen.

Speaker 10 (57:19):
Yeah, yeah. Friday and Friday and our best ball, Calc
and I were playing Wuslam at Valdo and Calc and
I both had driver driver. We were one down and
we didn't get over the lake. I mean, Asier hit
it in the water.

Speaker 3 (57:33):
Off.

Speaker 10 (57:34):
The team made a great five to end up edging
out sev On Sunday, Payne Stewart hit it in the
water off the tee, tried to play it out of
the water, left it.

Speaker 4 (57:42):
In the water, ended up not even finishing the hole.

Speaker 10 (57:46):
Calcavecchia hit a thin driver off the fairway or I believe,
then went into the water. Freddy Couples flaid after a
breathtaking drive flair to a little short iron or wedge
out right of the green, didn't get it up and down.

Speaker 4 (58:00):
Kim Green at the green and then he three putted.
So it was a very hard hole.

Speaker 10 (58:04):
But just to give you a little what I remember
so clearly, I'm in that ninth position and as we're playing,
and this was a really unbelievably loud crowd. They were
very fair to us, but it was certainly home course,
Like if you're playing, you know, if Texas is playing,
they're going to get a bigger in Austin in college football,
they get a much bigger roar than the other team.

(58:25):
And so as we're playing along, I wasn't paying attention
closely to the war, but we had taken a lead
from a nine to seven, like you said we had
gotten the head, so it's looking good. And I hear
these ruars ahead of us is I'm playing sixteen and seventeen.
I'm thinking, wait a minute, that means those matches went
to eighteen. The best that we could have been was

(58:48):
one up going to eighteen. Those rars aren't because Europe
is losing eighteen. Then you know, ten minutes later, another roar,
ten minutes later, another roar, and then I'm standing in
the eighteenth fairway when they went crazy when ken Is
beat Ken Green. So it was the dynamic was something
I'd never experienced in golf, because you don't really quite
have those kind of roars at a normal tournament.

Speaker 1 (59:09):
So you were paying attention to how the other matches
were going throughout the tournament or throughout the Ryder Cup.

Speaker 3 (59:16):
Just a little bit.

Speaker 4 (59:17):
I don't think I did on Day one or two.

Speaker 10 (59:19):
I really didn't because I was really big in a
pre shot routine and staying in my zone my rookie
year when I win Arell, I didn't look at the
leaderboard of the sixteenth one Sunday because I always felt
like I can't do anything about anybody else. I can't
believe defense I need to focus on full effort, full
commitment to every shot. Now late in around, when you're

(59:40):
trying to win a tournament, I think it's probably valuable
to take a glance because if you've got a five
shot leave like I had at the Player Championship, I'm
certainly not going to go for the pen on seventeen
on the Island Green. I'm not going to challenge the
lake on eighteen. I'm going to play safe. But in
the Ryder Cup, you know, those roars kind of made
me what's happening? And I saw that lead shrink. Then

(01:00:01):
I saw them take a three up lead. As a
matter of fact, if I remember, Watson was in the
tenth position, but he was already done as he closed
somebody out early. He was done before I finished. So
we actually won the last We won the last four points.

Speaker 1 (01:00:16):
Yeahs last four to keep it. Fourteen fourteen On Friday
after and Saturday afternoon, you played with Tom k You
guys won two and one over kind of Sarah's in
but are longer. What goes into successfully having a successful pairing?
Is there something that worked well for you that stood
out or didn't work?

Speaker 3 (01:00:35):
How does that work?

Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
Did you talk to Raymond Floyd about, Hey, I want
to play with Tom or I want to play with Calc.

Speaker 3 (01:00:40):
How does that work? Come Ryder Cup week.

Speaker 10 (01:00:43):
I had nothing to do with the pairings and I
won't give the name. But as we were, the pairings
are turned in as the group in the morning makes
the turn, so the captain has a little bit of
time after the last group makes a turn, and they
basic allot on how guys were playing well. One of
the players didn't I feel like he was dialed in.
And Raymond said, I'm going to put you and Mark

(01:01:05):
out this afternoon. And he said this was this is
a Hall of Famer and he said, basically, not word
for word, but I'm just not making enough puts right
now to help.

Speaker 4 (01:01:15):
I think you are to put somebody else.

Speaker 10 (01:01:16):
And I thought that was unbelievably brave, this unbelievable player.
And so right there Raymond says, okay, Mark, you and
Tom were going to go out. So some adjustments are
made like that, you know, or maybe a guy says
I just don't feel good or my elbows hurting, whatever
it might be.

Speaker 4 (01:01:35):
But that wasn't the original idea.

Speaker 10 (01:01:37):
But uh, that pairing was wonderful for me because you
guys are you know, got to be close to Tom
Kite there in Austin.

Speaker 4 (01:01:44):
He is a Hall of Famer for a reason.

Speaker 10 (01:01:47):
I knew that Tom was tested in Ryder Cup, tested period.
As a matter of fact, he won. He had won
the Players that year, the year after I did. Uh,
We've played a lot of golf together. I knew that
Tom was known to be steady, dependable, fairways, greens, methodical.
I was a little more horsepower is not the right word,

(01:02:08):
but I drove it a little further, and I knew
that we had such a good pairing that day, that
Tom was in the fairway and kind of let me go,
Mark go, and I drove it on the tenth green
there with a three wood made eagle.

Speaker 4 (01:02:20):
It was a reachable par for with water. Because Tom,
I knew it was going to be a play.

Speaker 10 (01:02:25):
We teamed it really, really well. I had a day,
you know, it was special for me.

Speaker 4 (01:02:28):
I don't know.

Speaker 10 (01:02:29):
I think I made five or six parties in an
eagle and Tom was right there. I never had to eaven, flinch,
worried about if I made a mistake. So I love
that pairing personally.

Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
You mentioned the European Crowns were very fair.

Speaker 1 (01:02:40):
I was going to ask, you know, what was your
experience like being on the road and was there any
particular heckles that you remember that stood out maybe about
you or any other of your teammates in the nineteen
eighty nine Ryder Cup.

Speaker 10 (01:02:52):
You know, I'm really proud to tell you that I
don't remember one one thing unkind nothing. There'd be a
little bit of it. It wasn't a roar if you
miss to put or something, but there'd be a reaction.
It wasn't over the top. I didn't think. I've always
thought that European galleries, when you play in the Open,
they really understood what a good shot was. And our
American galleries are wonderful. I love playing in front of

(01:03:14):
galleries that means you're playing good and you're near the
lead of the tournament. But I think sometimes at our
tournaments that people go also for the social part that
maybe aren't devout golfers. You know, a couple of beers
watching having fun with their family or friends, and that's wonderful.

Speaker 4 (01:03:30):
We're so grateful as golfers.

Speaker 10 (01:03:31):
But when I would play an Open championship, whether it's
an old gentleman walking with his wife a kid. They
were really interested in the golf. The big hospitality suites
didn't exist, and even though the stands on the eighteenth
hole here were gigantic, it was almost like half of
the football field buying the green. There was no hospitality
like you know, open bar type thing, even though I'm

(01:03:52):
sure there were a few peers that were consumed. The
galleries were wonderful, louder for them, which should be, but
I didn't think they were disrespectful.

Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
At visiting with Mark McCumber ten time PGA Tour winner,
win of the Players Championship and Ryder Cupper for the
American squad in nineteen eighty nine, and golf analysts for
PGA Tour on serious x sem Okay, So since nineteen
eighty three, Europeans have won the Ryder Cup twelve times,
Americans have won six times and there's been one tie
that of course you were part of. Why do you

(01:04:21):
think the Europeans have been able to flip the momentum
in this event?

Speaker 10 (01:04:25):
That's a great question. And they've dominated, Just to be honest,
they've dominated. Of course the first fifty years it wasn't
a contest. But then again when Samuel Ryder in nineteen
twenty seven started this.

Speaker 4 (01:04:35):
It was more of a goodwill exhibition.

Speaker 10 (01:04:37):
There was one Hall of Fame player that elected not
to play one year when he made the team back
in the seventies when he want.

Speaker 4 (01:04:43):
To go hunting.

Speaker 10 (01:04:44):
So there was none of the fever pits and there's
nothing against him. It's just I need some time off,
so I'm not going to play. So clearly it wasn't
viewed like it is now. I always wanted to play
on a Ryder Cup team. I missed a couple teams barely,
but I was glad to get on this one before
my career was done. But I always felt that the
Europeans played with a chip on their shoulder. You know,

(01:05:05):
everything in America is bigger, larger than life in so
many ways, and I think they felt like, you know,
I might be from Sweden, I might be from Northern Ireland.
I might be from Spain, and we're all speak different languages.

Speaker 4 (01:05:20):
You know.

Speaker 10 (01:05:21):
When they play the European Tour, they have to kind
of they buddy up more, they eat together, and the
American players, I think tend to isolate a little more.

Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
That doesn't mean they're not friends.

Speaker 10 (01:05:30):
It's not what I'm saying, but there was so much
money in America and there is in golf everywhere that
guys could afford to have their entourage over the last
twenty years and kind of do what they want to do.
So I think the Europeans a little more of a brotherhood,
not that we don't have that, but a little more.
And I think it's like what you know, It's like,

(01:05:51):
why does an underdog come into Austin and play their
best game they want to knock off the top dog
Texas Longhorns. It's the same thing I think in Ryder
Cup history that is totally changed now. And do you
know what, it couldn't have happened in the middle eighties
at a better time. If it was still the domination
you saw the first fifty years. Who would even watch?
And now you hear analysts talking about this might be

(01:06:12):
the greatest sporting of it in all of sports. Who
would have believed that if you went back to the
seventies when Europe and only won a handful of times.

Speaker 1 (01:06:20):
There's been two narratives that have been pushed heavily this week.
One is that the Americans now playing for pay, Europeans
aren't because that means the Americans don't care what this tournament.
And then the second narrative is that the bet Page
New York crowds are going to be unruly in some
of the Europeans playing members and their families might be
in danger. Are you buying into either of these narratives?

Speaker 4 (01:06:43):
Well, the one about being in danger. If that's the case,
I think the what's that.

Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
Go go ahead?

Speaker 10 (01:06:54):
I'm sorry, Yeah, I don't think they're in danger. If
they were, it's a sad state to where our world is.
But what's happened over the last two weeks and what's
happening in the world, I think things are out of
balance and upside down. So I certainly, I sincerely hope
nothing foolish happens. I've played in front of New York crowds.
I'll give you one true story. We're playing in a
tournament at Westchester Country Club back in the eighties. I'm

(01:07:17):
playing with Ed Snead, great player, and we're on I
think it was the thirteenth hole.

Speaker 4 (01:07:22):
It's a par three at Westchester Country Club. We got
a nice little gallery all around the tea box at Snead.

Speaker 10 (01:07:29):
Tease it up takes it practically and hits the shot
the second the ball leaves the club. A New York
thing goes, you were in front of the tee, You
were in front of the t you got to play again.
That's a penalty, and we're looking at what And then
someone said, well, if he really was, why do you
say something before now? No, I wanted to get him.
We determined that he was in front of the tea

(01:07:49):
because a divot is a short iron like an eight
or nine er, and the divot starts past the tee.
We don't hit the ball very often where the divot
starts like that guy probably did behind the ball. So
it ended up being a mute point. But there's a
little bit of that, I think in some of the
New York galleries. I watched my nephew play in the open.
What was the first one that wait but two three

(01:08:09):
or something two thousand and three, and I heard heckling.
Then they were heckling Sergeiyo Garcia at one of those
opens at Bethpage merse mercilessly. But I hope that doesn't happen.
What was the first part of that question.

Speaker 1 (01:08:25):
The Americans playing for pay? How do you think that's
going to impact the Ryder Cup because obviously you played
in nineteen eighty nine and now the Europeans aren't. And
we heard Luke Donald even mention it in the opening
ceremonies yesterday, taking a jab at the Americans who are
are paying for play or playing for pay.

Speaker 10 (01:08:43):
That's because he is a smart Northwestern graduate who used
that perfectly. And I didn't think it was over the top.
You know, we don't play for money or some comment.
I don't think it'll have anything to do whatsoever with
how the Americans play. I think it could be another
little bit of a charcoal on the fire to give them,

(01:09:03):
like we'll show them again that chip. We're not getting anything,
and we're going to show them. It's about the competition.
But I really don't think no offense. I'm in the media,
like y'all are, I mean, everything nowadays hyperbolezed. It's we
try to make something out of nothing just to have
people listen to us.

Speaker 4 (01:09:20):
Or read our papers or whatever it might be. You
see it.

Speaker 10 (01:09:23):
That's one thing I don't like about coverage anymore. We
don't really cover the story as much as trying to
make something sensationial. But I don't think I really don't believe,
in my opinion, that'll be an issue.

Speaker 2 (01:09:33):
Is there something to the trend of Ryder Cup blowouts?
Eight of the last ten Ryder Cups have not been
particularly close.

Speaker 3 (01:09:43):
Is does that change here in twenty twenty five?

Speaker 4 (01:09:48):
Who knows?

Speaker 10 (01:09:49):
You know, there's a proverb that says, to the race,
it doesn't always go to the swiftest. That's why we
watch sports. If the favored team always won, why would
we watch? There wouldn't be much interest. So anything can happened.
I don't I will be shocked if it's a blowout.

Speaker 4 (01:10:05):
It could be. As soon as I say that, it
could be.

Speaker 10 (01:10:07):
I expect this to come down to the last few
matches on Sunday afternoon.

Speaker 4 (01:10:10):
I really do you know?

Speaker 10 (01:10:12):
If you look at the teams Europe, I thought America
for so many years had an advantage, especially before it
became all of Europe and Spain, including Sevy and those
great Ola Babo guys that I respected played a lot
of golf with. But I just I think if you
look at it, America has six players of the twelve
that have won a major or more.

Speaker 4 (01:10:32):
Europe has five. Where is Europe weakening?

Speaker 10 (01:10:35):
Well, we used to always probably be at the first
sixth about even we felt we were much deeper. And
I do think there's no tour in the world that
even sniffs the PGA Tour for depth of talent. A
guy like Ben Griffin comes out of you know what.
Was he working as a mortgage officer a couple of
years ago and I watched him play when my son
was playing the Mackenzie Tour and he was a good

(01:10:57):
player then and he stopped playing, and now he's truly
a spunky, fiery, confident player. I think he's gonna have
a great Ryder Cup. You never know, but I expect
him to. And then you look at the European team,
I mean some of their younger players.

Speaker 4 (01:11:11):
Louvig Odberg, what.

Speaker 10 (01:11:12):
An incredible cessation, didn't he I think he won last
week in Europe. I just think the depth is equal
on both teams and that's why I expect it. But
then again, you know, momentum is a big thing. You know,
you look at a guy like Victor Hobblin, one of
the best iron players in the world. You know, he's
so hard on himself. He can have a dynamic Ryder
Cup and maybe he won't. I mean that could happen

(01:11:34):
to any player, and through history it has. Who would
believe the Tiger Woods doesn't have a good Ryder Cup record.
I can't figure that one out, you know, and some
other Larry Nelson, who's being honored this week well deservedly,
was one of the best Ryder Cup records ever. I
think he's like nine three and one. Sometimes it's the

(01:11:55):
quiet guy who just kind of sticks in the bubble
and puts his head down, which is the way you
play golf, especially at a Ryder Cup. And I even
think the crowds who were going to be very loud,
I think that could be a distraction, believe it or
not for the Americans if they don't kind of get
in their own bubble.

Speaker 1 (01:12:10):
Yeah, there's been some thought that, hey, if the Americans
come out slow out the gates and play poorly, and
with them being paid the New York crowds, you might
get a little unruly against their own own team. But
that's what makes the event so so much fun. David
Howell was on live from the Ryder Cup and he
was talking about he was a PGA tour or, he
was a rookie and not many people knew him, but

(01:12:30):
he took down Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson. It's what
makes the Ryder Cup so much fun. Mark, thanks so
much for your time. We really appreciate it and looking
forward to your coverage on eRx xxM.

Speaker 4 (01:12:40):
Well, thank you.

Speaker 10 (01:12:41):
I'm looking forward to watching it and I'm nice to
be with you guys. All the best of you guys,
Thanks for including me.

Speaker 3 (01:12:46):
Thanks Mark.

Speaker 1 (01:12:47):
That's Mark mccomber, a Ryder cupper of the nineteen eighty
nine American team. The last time the Ryder Cup ended
in a tie, it was nineteen eighty nine. If it
ends in a tie this weekend, the Europeans will retain
the Cup, just like they did in nineteen eighty nine.
We're gonna look at the Ryder Cup pairings for tomorrow.
Next hour, we're gonna hear from Roy Mcclroy Bryson to

(01:13:07):
Shambo Randal Shambly. A lot of hot takes being taken
right now at Bethpage Black.

Speaker 3 (01:13:14):
We're going to continue hour two of The Greig Way Show.

Speaker 1 (01:13:17):
The final hour of the day's program here on thirteen
hundred the Zone. It's The Craig Way Show. I am
Cameron Parker. Jake Herman is behind the board, and we're
glad to have you with us for the final hour
of today's show. Of course, if you miss any of it,
check it out on the free iHeart radio app. We
have cjafogal on from on Texas Football had Mark McCumber on,

(01:13:37):
former PGA Tour winner and member of the nineteen eighty
nine Ryder Cup team for the Americans. We'll continue our
Ryder Cup talk next segment as the pairings have been
announced for tomorrow's opening match Forsoms, so as we discussed,
they will go with foursomes. Typically the harder format for

(01:13:57):
the away team to win. Definitely does favor the Americans tomorrow,
but we'll look at the Ryder Cup pairings next segment.
If you want to be a part of the show,
please Texas at eight one, five three zero Texas where
Texas followed by your message, or leave us a talkback
message on the free iHeartRadio app just tap that red

(01:14:21):
microphone button. There is no Texas football this week, but
there is Texas Baseball returning to the Diamond on Saturday
as they take on the Texas Tech Red Raivers Red
Raiders at Dell Diamond. Actually one o'clock, first pitch and
we heard from Jim Slasenego at the beginning of today's show,
and we're going to hear a little bit more about

(01:14:42):
this team, starting off with Dylan Palantis, the twenty twenty
five SEC Freshman of the Year a team high twenty
three appearances. He led all rookies nationally in whip and saves.
He was second among freshmen in the nation and ERA
in opponent bat average, led Texas in e er A

(01:15:03):
whip saves, strikeouts and opponent batting average, and set the
SEC record for most saves by a freshman in conference play.
He was outstanding for Texas and basically every award you
can think of, yeah, he pretty much.

Speaker 3 (01:15:18):
He pretty much won it.

Speaker 1 (01:15:19):
Freshman All SEC, Perfect Game, d one, Baseball, Baseball America, NCB,
w A, whatever it is you can think of, name it. Yeah,
he won Freshman Pitcher of the Year. So the thought
going in the next season after last year with Jared
Spencer graduating to the majors, with Dylan Falantis b the

(01:15:43):
number one starter for Texas and a good idea of that, hey,
will he be the first starter for Texas in their
fall scrimmage?

Speaker 5 (01:15:51):
No, I wouldn't say that at all, I wouldn't say
that about Dylan Dylan. Dylan had a rough bout of
Mono towards the end of the summer, and so it
took him a while to kind of get his legs
under him. He's still doing that, so he won't he
won't throw. He's throwing, but he's not going to pitch
competitively this fall simply because by the time we would

(01:16:15):
be able to get him ramped up, it would be
time to almost shut it down and move on. So
we're just going to allow him to gain his weight back,
get stronger, and then get on about you know, Coach
Max is about sixteen week program leading up to the season,
so Valana certainly is in the conversation for that, but

(01:16:35):
he's going to have to go earn it, and he's
fully capable of doing that.

Speaker 6 (01:16:38):
But there's a lot of guys.

Speaker 5 (01:16:39):
Harrison looks really good right now, a few looks really
good right now, and then there's some freshmen that are
really really excited.

Speaker 6 (01:16:48):
I'm really excited about man.

Speaker 1 (01:16:50):
Tough news to hear about Flands. Hope he's okay, Mono
for the former Freshman of the Year. Okay, So assuming
he comes back healthy, ideally would Dylan Falantis be the
number one guy?

Speaker 3 (01:17:03):
Would he start? What are the options for Valantes?

Speaker 1 (01:17:06):
And what will slaugh Sningle do at that closer position?
Since ive Valantis has moved as a starter, it would
create a void in the closer spot.

Speaker 5 (01:17:15):
Yeah, I mean, I think, I think ideally that's the
natural progression of a great pitcher, uh to especially you know,
he wasn't He's one of the best closers in the
history of college baseball, right it's certainly one of the
best closers in the history of Texas.

Speaker 6 (01:17:32):
But he did it a different way, you know it.

Speaker 5 (01:17:34):
You know, it wasn't a There wasn't some unique arm
slot like Houston Street was. There wasn't a big power,
super power arm like Riley Farrell was for US at TCU.

Speaker 6 (01:17:46):
It was more like.

Speaker 5 (01:17:46):
Evan Austen back at A and M, except Dylan throws harder,
and you know, he's different. But Evan could go start,
which he's done in professional baseball, and valanis has has
starter stuff. Starter Moxie Arder mentality that he was able
to help the team as a reliever, and so I'm
sure Dylan would. I'm assuming Dylan would be up for
whatever helps the team the most. But at the same time,

(01:18:09):
I think roles on a pitching staff are always relative
to the rest of the team, right like who stays
Selsey healthy? If Valanis isn't pitching at the end of
the games, then who is, you know, and and that's
when you look at, you know, Thomas Burns. You know,
if Valanis is starting, maybe allows Ruger to be back.

Speaker 6 (01:18:29):
In the bullpen.

Speaker 5 (01:18:31):
A guy named cal Higgins transfer Forest from Western Kentucky
has a great history in college baseball being successful as
a reliever. So but that's normally the natural progression for
a guy like Dylan is that he evolves into being
a starter. And it'd be awesome because we have him
this year, we would him this year end next year.
Same thing for Jason Floores. Jason floor is a super

(01:18:53):
talented guy that ideally you'd like to see those guys
be in the rotation in some form, uh to, so
that you have them for two years instead.

Speaker 6 (01:19:00):
Of just one.

Speaker 1 (01:19:01):
So who else could be in the starting rotation mix
for twenty twenty six.

Speaker 5 (01:19:05):
You know, you'd have to look at obviously, Harrison valanis
the few, you know, the few we're kind of looking
at him as like a Jared Spencer type guy who's
been a career reliever. Part of the reason he wanted
to come here is the, you know, was the opportunity
to be a starter. So we're going to give him
that opportunity to be a starting pitcher. Jason Flores, Michael

(01:19:28):
Winter has looked out standing. Ruger certainly has done that.
Max Grubbs could do that. But I would say the
most likely candidates voalanis the few, Harrison Winter, Jason Flores.
But we also want to get young pictures, more starts,

(01:19:49):
so Crossland, Sam cos Art, those guys could all be
starting pictures. I'm sure I may be missing somebody, but
a lot of talented young pitchers down there. I think
last year we started four or five freshmen at some
point in a game, and that's one thing we'd like
to continue because of the I guess the interesting recruiting

(01:20:14):
battle between college baseball and professional baseball about young players
getting to play, and that's one thing that we want
to continue to hang our hat on that if you
come to Texas as a young player, you're going to
get opportunities in your freshman year to show what you
can do and then build on that throughout your career.

Speaker 1 (01:20:32):
Love this text on the text line why is there
Texas Baseball? My brain has a hard time comprehending that.
When you said it, I had to check the day. Yeah,
Texas playing two exhibition games Friday, sorry, Saturday at one
o'clock inst Texas Tech, and then next Friday against Lamar
six point thirty at the Dish. Hey, it's available to
go check out. So if you're looking for something to do.

(01:20:53):
Jake mentioned, it's gonna be great weather and it will
be the last time you can see Texas Baseball take
the field until probably next February.

Speaker 3 (01:21:01):
Taking the course.

Speaker 1 (01:21:02):
Tomorrow will be the Americans against the Europeans in the
Ryder Cup. We'll let you know who is the first
pairings in tomorrow's forsoms. And also we're gonna hear from
Roy McRoy, Scotti, Scheffler, Bryson, even Randall Shamblee, because anytime
Brandal opens his mouth, he's got something to say. Up
next on the Greg Way Shows, all right, our three of.

Speaker 3 (01:21:24):
The day's program.

Speaker 1 (01:21:25):
Here Cameron Parker with you Jay Kerrman behind the board
the forsoms for tomorrow's opening match of the twenty twenty
five Ryder Cup have been released, and let's go ahead
and give those to you now. Going off first for

(01:21:46):
Team USA. And this is a pairing that I kind
of thought in my head we would see for the
Americans and we got it. Bryson the Shambo and Justin
Thomas Electric. Think about Bryson, I mean he was on
the course yesterday just absolutely pumping the crowd up. And
sending him out first definitely is the right message. I

(01:22:08):
think Kick Braley wants to send to that best page crowd,
get them fired up early.

Speaker 3 (01:22:13):
JT.

Speaker 1 (01:22:14):
He's probably one of the more passionate guys out there
on this American team.

Speaker 3 (01:22:18):
That's a fun pairing. I'm curious to see if it'll
work out.

Speaker 1 (01:22:23):
I feel like they're gonna start out pretty strong, but
they're going up against John Ram Mentrol Hatten and that
pairing worked out very well for the Europeans two years ago.
Hatton Absolute Gamer and then you know John Ram. I
think a lot of people have forgotten about John Rom somehow,
probably because he plays on that Lift Golf Tour at

(01:22:43):
A lot of thoughts have been on Roy McRoy and
how he's gonna play. But Rom and hot and Hatton,
they went one another went. They beat Shoffling Cantley two
and one in Rome already and led off as the
opening pairing the twenty twenty three Rider Cup against Scotty
Scheffer and Sam Burns and one four and three.

Speaker 2 (01:23:05):
So Cantley doesn't lose these all that often. He's got
a good record at the Ryder Cup.

Speaker 3 (01:23:09):
He does.

Speaker 1 (01:23:10):
So the rom Hatton pairing unbeaten in Rome and Luke
Donald not surprising that He's gonna send them out first.

Speaker 3 (01:23:19):
So that'll be a super fun match.

Speaker 1 (01:23:22):
Match two, world number one Scotty Scheffler, and it's not
Sam Burns his best buddy, it is Russell Henley Ryder
Cup rookie, and this is an optimal pairing. I think
the day of golf Nerds, we're looking at Scheffler and
Henley as a good pairing and kick, and Bradley delivers
it going up against lutherig Oberg and Matt Skirkpatrick. So

(01:23:47):
Scheffler the former Longhorn, Oberg the former Red Raider fitting
because Texas and Texas Tech are playing each other on
Saturday in baseball, but that will be a very fun pairing.
Match three, where I'm a little bit worried here, Yeah,
Europeans are setting out Roy McRoy and Tommy Fleetwood. In

(01:24:07):
twenty twenty three, Rory in In Fleetwood went two and
know together, took down j T and speak too and
one on Saturday, and took down Xander and can't lead
to and one on Friday. Also in the four ball match.
In the foursome match, they have great chemistry. And also

(01:24:28):
you're looking at three of the best players in the
world coming in Rory and Tommy Fleetwood or two of those,
Scotty being the other one.

Speaker 3 (01:24:35):
Now, who are they playing?

Speaker 1 (01:24:38):
Callin Maricawa in Harris English, Harris English Rider Cup, Rookie Morikawa.
Who's who's been a great match play player. But looking
at the analytics side of this, data golf dot Com
had a metric where they kind of raided the pairings.
They took all one and thirty two pairings that could

(01:25:00):
possibly be and rated them based on trokes gained. Do
you know which pairing was dead last, Jake? Out of
the one hundred and thirty two pairings, it was actually
Colin morri Colin Harris English. So, according to datagolf dot Com,
the worst possible pairing that the US team could put
out they're putting out in match three against Roy McRoy
and Tommy Fleetwood. I'm gonna go ahead and just say

(01:25:21):
that the Americans would be very fortunate to even get
a half point in that match, but I like Roy
and Fleetwood to get that first European point possibly right there.
Match four and Shafley and Cantley with no J t
In Speed. This is the most experienced duo at the
Ryder Cup for the American side, and they got big
shot Bob and Victor Hovelin up against them. That'll be

(01:25:45):
a real fun pairing. I'm looking at twenty twenty three
and I do not believe Hovelin and McIntyre played together,
so this will be a new pairing, possibly for Luke
Donald here. So on the European side, the players who
are not appearing in the first foursomes match for twenty
twenty five. On the European side, that includes Justin Rose,

(01:26:10):
Rasmus Hoyguard and then also Shane Lowry and Stepstraca. So
out of the captain's picks, the last three picks actually
playing for Team Europe on the first match of the
day for the American side, no JJ Spahn automatic qualifier.
No Ben Griffin who's a rookie, and no Cam Young,

(01:26:32):
no Sam Burns, so only what well three captains picks
actually playing in the first foursomes match. So again six
ten am Central time, they go off, believe on USA Network.
That'll be fun. I just can't wait to see Bryson
come out because he's gonna do Bryson things. Set your alarms,

(01:26:55):
set your alarms bright and early. Okay, there's some sounds
here I want to get to. And it works out
because Bryson is leading off for the Americans, and there's
already a lot happening here between Bryson and Rory going
back and forth. And so I think Bryson a few
weeks ago talked about how he was going to be

(01:27:17):
chirping Roy McElroy and is your member? This this goes
all the way back to the Masters this season. The
final pairing of this year's Masters was Roy McRoy and Bryson,
and at one point, believe in the second hole or
third hole, Bryson the shambo actually led the Masters and
then he kind of just fell apart towards the end,

(01:27:38):
and of.

Speaker 3 (01:27:38):
Course Rory.

Speaker 1 (01:27:41):
Was leading the charge, and then Justin Rose came back
and then you know all that. But anyway, Bryson, you
know when he said about it in his post round
interview that actually he tried to talk to Rory on
the first tea and Rory just tone Waldon did not
give him the time of day. And Rory said afterwards
it wasn't a Bryson thing, was just him and his

(01:28:02):
mental I want to say, I don't want say psychiatrist,
but mental coach said, hey, just focus on yourself in
this round. That's what Rory did, and Rory completed the
Grand Slam. Well, Bryson will later say that, yeah, the
Ryder Cup, I want to be chirping in Rory's ear
the whole time. And so Roy yesterday was asked about

(01:28:24):
it and he said, I promised Luke Donald that I
would only talk about the Europeans and not the Americans.
So unfortunately, tomorrow, at least in the foursomes match, we
will not see Bryson first Rory, but we could later
on in this Ryder Cup. So here's some more sound

(01:28:45):
and we'll start with Bryson and Roy mcworth. This is
coming from from yesterday talking about playing against Rory McRoy
and if this possibly could be golf's next greatest rivalry.

Speaker 11 (01:28:58):
Well, look, I think rivalries are good of the game
of golf, and albeit I have the ultimate respect for
Rory as a player, it's gonna be fun to go
up against him this week, you know, whether it's against
him directly or through other players. I think it's gonna
be a fun challenge this week. What I love to

(01:29:20):
go up against him. Yeah, it'd be a lot of fun.
Is it gonna happen? It's not likely. I mean maybe
once you never know. I don't know if there's planning
behind the scenes or whatnot. But no, Like, he's a
fierce competitor, a great competitor, but one that I'd love
the opportunity to play.

Speaker 6 (01:29:39):
Against this week.

Speaker 3 (01:29:40):
I think Sunday matches comes down to it.

Speaker 1 (01:29:42):
I want to see Bryson against Roy and I want
to see Scotty against rom Okay, I promise you. Brandal
Shambley sound of course, former University of Texas golfer and
one of the hosts on the Golf Channel network. You
can hear him see him on Live from which is
a fantastic show. By the way, on Golf Channel. You're
looking for some Ryder Cup review please watch live from

(01:30:03):
but here is Brandal Shambly talking about Bryson, the Shambo
and just getting little just getting a couple of little
nicks on him, get a little dabs, little jaggers on
Bryce and the Shambo.

Speaker 6 (01:30:12):
To drum up some interest for himself.

Speaker 12 (01:30:14):
And I thought it was pretty poignant there when he
asked about the retort of Rory that he didn't mention
the goal this week of a Ryder Cup.

Speaker 6 (01:30:23):
Nope, he didn't do that.

Speaker 12 (01:30:24):
He didn't talk about playing on a team and how
much that meant.

Speaker 6 (01:30:27):
Nope, he didn't do that.

Speaker 8 (01:30:28):
What he did do was talk about.

Speaker 6 (01:30:29):
His YouTube channel, which you know, if we want to talk.

Speaker 12 (01:30:32):
About the numbers that are generated from that, it's pretty dubious.
I have no doubt that bots are generating a lot
of those views. There may be some interest as well,
but that's what he wants to talk about, not the team,
not the Ryder Cup. And it's one of the reasons
why I think he's going to be such a difficult
person to get paired with. No doubt he's one hell
of a golfer, no doubt he has his moments of

(01:30:52):
generosity with fans I've heard about, but he's an odd
duck when he's trying to blend in with the team,
and he has so many potential bulletin board mistakes. Uh,
And I think he would be a captain's nightmare.

Speaker 1 (01:31:08):
I don't think anything Brandle's said is incorrect. It's just
it's just funny to me, Jake that the American media
almost is pro European side, and how they kind of
pick apart Bryson, how they pick apart Keegan Bradley. Meanwhile,
the Europeans are just absolutely glazing their own players any
chance they get.

Speaker 2 (01:31:27):
The double standard is is a little bit insane. We
we we gotta, we gotta call out both sides equally, Like,
let's let's talk about VR headsets some more. Let's let's
let's shift the attention away because at right now that
it just comes off a.

Speaker 3 (01:31:42):
Little, a little envious, a little salty to me.

Speaker 4 (01:31:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:31:47):
So it's not a captain's nightmare. It's it's not well.
And when you have a guy who can hit the
ball like.

Speaker 1 (01:31:52):
That and his teammates would agree with you, Jake, here's
center shoftly talking about UH being teammates with Bryson, who,
by the way, does not play on the PJ A
PJ Tour anymore, and he is the only live golf
player on this American Ryder Cup team.

Speaker 13 (01:32:07):
I was telling Key and I was like, I feel
like Bryson could be like the difference for us in
a strange way from from the standpoint of feeding into
these fans, the.

Speaker 3 (01:32:16):
Style of golf he plays, and.

Speaker 13 (01:32:18):
Also how like you look at me, I'll make a
pot and you won't see like too much of a reaction.
That's just that's just who I am. That's that's kind
of how I operate. Maybe it might change this week,
who knows, you know, he's Ryder Cups kind of bring
out the best of you other times. But Bryson's like
this is his his arena, you know if he if
he like views himself as like a gladiator golfer, like
this is as good as it gets. So he's been

(01:32:39):
he's been awesome. He's been awesome in the team room. Uh,
and I'm excited to sort of see what he can do,
uh and hopefully get a lot of points up on
the board because his points, you know, his points might
hit harder than than than maybe my points, for example,
just because of how he might celebrate and get these
fans in this tournament quickly.

Speaker 1 (01:32:59):
Yeah, that's the key right there, and that's why he's
going out first tomorrow. It's it's not because you know
he's a great locker room guy. Because I'm sure there's
some guys in this Rider Cup team where you're just
like a man, I gotta be with Bryson, But you know, I.

Speaker 3 (01:33:11):
Think it's cheesy or whatever.

Speaker 1 (01:33:14):
He will go out there and he'll get the crowd
going because you know, the American team, as Sander talked about,
there are some low key guys like Scottie.

Speaker 3 (01:33:23):
He's he's pretty low key.

Speaker 1 (01:33:25):
Sander Russell, Henley, Harris, English moricaw Ben Griffin, Cam Youngkenttley.
Those guys are not going to get a big reaction.

Speaker 6 (01:33:33):
Out of them. You know.

Speaker 3 (01:33:34):
They they might hold out and they're not going to
be screaming.

Speaker 1 (01:33:36):
Meanwhile, on the European side, I mean Shane Lowry will
be running up and down the fairways after every single shot,
every single every single putt.

Speaker 3 (01:33:44):
You know, even Rory gets way into it.

Speaker 1 (01:33:46):
All those guys due Tommy, big Shot, Bob, you know,
Uh Hovelin, you know those guys wrong, you know those
are fiery guys, right, Brom's he gets fiery. The Americans,
you know, not really any fiery guys, you know. So
Bryson is needed on this side, JT. Bryson. Will they
be too fiery? That's my question? Is it possible that

(01:34:07):
this duo is too fiery? Okay we heard from Sander.
How about world number one Scotty Scheffler on Bryson's importance
of this team.

Speaker 14 (01:34:15):
I mean, I think Bryson he's a tremendous competitor. He's
he's a great partner as well. I partnered with him
in twenty twenty one at Whistling Straits and he was
a tremendous guy to be out there on the golf
course with. He's a he's a great guy. He's a
good friend, and you know he's been he's been great
in our team. And like you said, he brings a
lot of energy. The people love him, and I think
he he loves the opportunity to be able to represent
his country. You know, he means a multiple time US

(01:34:36):
Open winner and yeah, you know that means means a
lot to him. And being an American, I think means
a lot to him as well. And I'm excited to
kind of unleash him this week.

Speaker 1 (01:34:45):
I like the team vibes here, you know, I think
we've had issues thinks back to France and when Patrick
gree was calling out Tiger Woods and Jordan Speed after
the first day and the Americans got boat raced in
that in the morning matches to you know, Scotty and
and Xander backing up.

Speaker 3 (01:35:00):
So we'll see how it plays out. Okay, more brandal sound.

Speaker 1 (01:35:03):
We talked about it with Marc Cumber a little bit
on the American players getting paid now, I believe American
side is getting I think a five hundred thousand dollars
stipend to play in this event, and it seems like
most of the players are donating them to their charities.
The Europeans, by the way, aren't getting that five hundred
thousand dollars stipend. Now does everyone else get paid to

(01:35:27):
attend this event?

Speaker 3 (01:35:28):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:35:28):
Well, you know, all all of the Team USA staff
are getting paid. I think the caddies are getting paid
a little bit, but the players aren't. So there is
some of it where you understand, okay, like this this
is going to generate so much much, so much money
from it, right, I mean you're charging sixteen dollars for
michelob Ultra Like, okay, you can find some way for
the players to get paid for this. But the Americans

(01:35:48):
are getting five hundred thousand dollars, the Europeans are not.
And here's Brandial Shambly's take on how this may impact
the Ryder Cup this week.

Speaker 15 (01:35:55):
Look, I think the US side has done a pretty
darn good job of spinning this. They've spent They've spun
it towards philanthropy, you know, Scotti Scheffler said as much.
Xander Schoffley, I believe, spoke today said he was given
it all to charity. Keithan Bradley said he's given it
all to charity. But it is clear that there was
a push on the US side, and where exactly it

(01:36:16):
was coming from is not one hundred percent known, but
nonetheless there was a strong push that they wanted to
get paid, and the story was three hundred thousand was
meant to be ear marked for charity.

Speaker 4 (01:36:24):
Two hundred thousand.

Speaker 15 (01:36:25):
And I don't like calling it a stipend that euphemizes it.

Speaker 3 (01:36:28):
It's a payment to play in the Ryder Cup. And
for me, the honor of playing in a Ryder Cup is.

Speaker 15 (01:36:35):
About personal sacrifice, the profound sense of pride that comes
from representing your country and in doing so, carrying the
hopes of millions of people from your country while embodying
the values of the spirit of your country on a stage.
It's and asking to be paid for that is anathetical
to the privilege of playing for your country.

Speaker 3 (01:36:54):
And I think europe gets that.

Speaker 15 (01:36:56):
And I've thought that the United States asking to be
paid could prove to be such a distraction that at
the end of the week it may well be the
reason that they lose the Ryder Cup.

Speaker 1 (01:37:07):
Here's the thing, guys, we're hearing all this talk about,
you know how the Europeans don't want to get paid,
all this Who's missing from the Ryder Cup on the
European side this year, both as possibly captains and also
possibly as players, Paul Casey, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter.

Speaker 3 (01:37:31):
Now, why is that?

Speaker 1 (01:37:31):
Because they left the PGA Tour that joined the liv
Golf Tour for money for money, guys, And now they're
telling us that, like, oh, the Europeans don't care about money.
They just care about pride and love of their country
and love with their brotherhood.

Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
Get out of here with that.

Speaker 1 (01:37:47):
All those guys jumped to go to a rival tour
knowing that it would take away their chance of being
a part of the Ryder Cup for the rest of
their life. Sergia Garcia probably would have been the captain
for this event, or Ian Poulter, and guess what they
aren't because they decided to take the money and go
join the live golf tour.

Speaker 3 (01:38:05):
So we can take all of that.

Speaker 1 (01:38:08):
Americans are getting paid to play crap, and you can
stick it where the sun don't hine, because that is
the European media just delivering an absolute incredible narrative. Congrats
to the European side for driving this up. It's a
little bit worrisome that it's the week of the Ryder
Cup and there's all these stupid narratives about the New
York fans and these American players getting paid.

Speaker 2 (01:38:31):
I think that'll be put to bed this week. Yeah,
twelve hundred dollars a ticket. I mean, you don't want
to stereotype fans based on the emission prices. But there's
gonna be a lot of corporate areas there.

Speaker 1 (01:38:43):
Money money funds the PGA Tour and the live Golf Tour, right,
it's all about It's all about money here. All the
corporate hospitality suites. I mean, you go to this event,
you go to any PGA Tour event. It's so much
hospitality in corporate crap here, and all of a sudden,
now it's like whoa, you know, Americans want to get
some money here, like yeah, this is wrong. No, no,

(01:39:04):
But credit the Americans or the guit European media for
really drumming.

Speaker 3 (01:39:09):
Yeah, that was a Sky Sports clip. We just farmed forward.

Speaker 1 (01:39:13):
And we'll hear a lot more of it. I mean
it was you know, the whole Patrick Can'tley saying he
was not going to wear a hat because you know,
some other Ryder Cup official was getting paid to wear
a hat that was drummed up by a European golf reporter.
And we still aren't really sure if that was true
or not. I mean, can't we continues to deny it.

Speaker 6 (01:39:31):
Now.

Speaker 1 (01:39:31):
I'm sure there's probably some truth that Can't Lee believes
the players should get paid for that, But that's just
part of the European media kind of pushing this narrative
and really really trying to keep things from off the
course for Team USA. Because that's probably the only chance
the Europeans have they can somehow divide the locker room. Okay,

(01:39:51):
we'll take a break, we're gonna come back. We'll hear
a little bit more from Scottie Scheffler because he is
the world's best player and I'm looking for him to
have a big week. And we'll also look at tonight's
Thursday night football matchup up next year on The Craig
Way Show.
