Speaker 1 (00:03):
Live from Twin Peaks Dasney Lane football season is here,
joined Craig Way, Mike Hardball Harts, WWE Hall of Famer
Mark Henry, and Camren Parker as they talk everything all
in college football, live loud and in person. Here's your host,
Craig Way.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
Well, good Thursday afternoon, un to you, Welcome to the program.
As the nice gentleman just told you, we're a Twin
Peaks dasty down in South Austin. Happy to have you
with us here on this Thursday afternoon on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred zone.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Yeah, my name is Craig Way, but the.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
More important gentlemen are here as well, and that means
my Cardball Harg and the world's strongest man, Mark Henry,
co hosts of the morning Kickoff.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
How are you guys holding up? In not morning? It's
afternoon now you guys are doing all right?

Speaker 4 (00:54):
Craig, I'm a little off, man. I normally somehow someway.
I normally duck off and take a little nap. Yeah,
but today they pushed back sarks some media availability, so
we had to wait to do that. Then I had
to go man, I'm okay, I'm okay, but We're at
a great location here at Twin Peaks off of Stasity Lane,
so I'm pretty excited about it.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Mark Henry, you don't strike me as a nap guy,
are you?

Speaker 3 (01:17):
I am? Are you?

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (01:18):
My goodness?

Speaker 3 (01:19):
When do you usually hit your nap?

Speaker 5 (01:20):
Usually about ten o'clock? So I napped from like you know,
ten to two. Okay, But I couldn't do it today
because you know, I had an obligation, and I meet
my obligations.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Graig all you should ask me.

Speaker 4 (01:34):
It's normally around seven thirty when we go to commercial break.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Just a little bit, you lie.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Like a.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
See.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
That's why I said, the more important guys are here today,
so uh. And then of course Cameron Parker's here and
he's every man, so he's unimportant guy.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Unimportant guy, Jim don't wake up to the crack of noon.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
So we're glad to be with you out here at
Twin Peaks.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Stassname.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
We've actually come on out take advantage of the drink specials.
Get ready for football? Why today, you may ask, why
are all of us gathered on a Thursday afternoon? Well,
sec Play arrives this weekend.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
As if we didn't already know that.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
But the Texas Long Orange are in Gainesville, Florida this
Saturday under what could be a little bit different conditions
and what we're sitting outside on the patio and it's
a little warm here and it might be warm and
muggy and humid and raining on Saturday.

Speaker 4 (02:37):
Yeah, that's an interesting look right there, Craig, because as
someone like yourself that has been to all these different locations,
correct me if I'm wrong. Is this your first game
at Gainesville for a football game?

Speaker 2 (02:49):
First time to do a football game at Gainesville? And
I always tell this story about when Texas played You
remember UCF at the opening of their stadium in two
thousand and seven, and it was in September non conference
game and mac Brown had agreed to a two for
one with UCF under the condition that Texas provided the

(03:12):
opposition in their brand new stadium.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
So it was the debut of their stadium, and.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
It was it was about the size of McLean Stadium,
a Waco, forty five thousand seats, one big oval, and
people were there and it was very, very noisy, and
then there was a thunderstorm in the middle of the
afternoon stopped played for a little over an hour and
I came back and it was like a sauna and
guys were just sucking win to get through the football game.
They had a lead and UCF came back. They had

(03:39):
that running back Kevin Smith went on and play in
the NFL. Well, they with the Lions among others, and
he ran for about one hundred and fifty yards and
Texas got out of it with a thirty five thirty
two win. And Mac Brown to this day says, stupidest
thing ever did as a coach, you know, agreeing to
play money at the opening of the third Stadium. So
that's what comes to mind for me is those late
summer early really fall, late afternoon thunderstorms that can sweep

(04:04):
across the Sunshine State.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
And here we are. It's gonna be on October for it.
So it happens, and you know it's gonna happen. It's Florida.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
Yeah, like if you're ever in like Orlando's that way.
I worked at the Performance Center for WWE and every
day around two o'clock, a little thirty minute rain would happen.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Yeah, every day.

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Wow, you just get a little shower and it would
move on then and just move on and then and
that would be the case. Cameron Parker has quite a
bit of extensive time spent in the state of Florida
because his mom lives there, So you got used to
those afternoon thumbstorms, thunderstorms interrupting your.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Golf game, right, Yeah.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
Well, fortunately my mom moved there after I had graduated
high school, so not too extensive. But to Mark's point, yeah,
those afternoon thunderstorms, it's you know, you check your watch
two thirty three thirty, it's here and then it's gone.
It's super humid, but we've seen how it can affe
football games, right look at the NFL, the Eagles and
the Buccaneers, and I think it was Sirianni, that Eagles

(05:06):
head coach, talking about how they were concerned about how
humid it was. And you look at the first half
that they're showing the offensive lineman defensive linemen and they
are gassed. They have every mister fan in the state
of Florida on the Eagle sideline, So it's no joke.
Now Here in Texas it's been pretty humid, right, guys.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
It's not going to affect Texas.

Speaker 6 (05:26):
I don't think that was a state that was that
was like ninety percent of Maity. That was absolutely We're
miserable out there at DKR. So I think that the
the big win for Texas here is that this is
a two thirty kickoff. This was a night game in
Gainesville at Florida was coming out of three game win streak,
a top five team, I'd be a little bit more
worried about the crowd. Now, obviously Gainesville the Swamp probably

(05:47):
a top ten college football crowd, but you know, and
I'm sure they're going to have great attendance, but coming
out on a three game losing streak, two thirty.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
Kickoff going to be hot and humid.

Speaker 6 (05:55):
It's not the best atmosphere Florida is probably going to
have on Saturday, which should hell out Texas in arts Manning.
But it's still going to be a tough one no
matter what.

Speaker 2 (06:03):
And then and then the other big factor that may
go into this whole thing is, you know, will we
have actual rain like storm and how intense and how
it affects the execution of both sides, really the offense
and the defense.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Yeah, that's that's one of the concerns that coach Stark
had mentioned too, But he said, we've practiced with wet
balls throughout the situations and understanding how to prepare when
you get ready to go there. But that also to
your point, Craig, that's where ball security has to be
at a premium. Don't put it on the carpet in
those particular situations.

Speaker 5 (06:38):
Yeah, they're good that they actually practice putting the balls
in the in the in the coolers and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
It just helps you adjust to it soon. Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
In fact, let's hear from start and now this is
from this morning's media availability. We'll hear different different comments
from him throughout the course of the program.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
We're with you, by the way all the.

Speaker 2 (06:59):
Way to six o'clock tonight, so you get a bonus
hour what normally is in this space from two to five.
We're gonna be with you all the way up till
six o'clock tonight. But here's This was the opening statement
that Long Worn's head coach Steve Sarkisian had leading off
his final media availability for the local media and anybody
else's who's on that weekly media zoom. And then of

(07:24):
course I have a conversation with him about an hour
and forty five minutes prior to kickoff on Saturday. But
this is his final media availability of the week, and
here was Sark's opening comments about it.

Speaker 7 (07:36):
We're obviously very excited SEC opener. You know, we kind
of wrapped up what we would call the preseason, the
four non conference games, and now we're in the kind
of regular season play and we've got eight straight you know,
SEC ball games, kicking it off Saturday at the Swamp
against Florida. We talked about when we first got into

(07:58):
the SEC, the opportunity to go play in some of
the best venues in the country, and the Swamp is
definitely one of those. And it's it's tough environment against
a really good team, very talented team, a team with
a lot of depth, a great roster that has been
close against some really good opponents. So we definitely have
our work cutout for us. But I can tell you

(08:19):
from our team's perspective, our guys are really excited to
play in this game. They've they've I've said that, you know,
been commending them for weeks now, but this week even
more than ever. I mean the sense of urgency that
these guys that practice with this week, the intent, the energy,
the physicality and the speed of which they practice this
week been thoroughly impressed and so looking forward to watching

(08:42):
these guys go out and compete Saturday at three thirty.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Yeah, so at three thirty Eastern, two thirty our time.
And of course our coverage will again with the third
and Long one podcast guys. That'll start at eleven thirty
in the morning on Saturday, and then it'll be Mike
and it'll be Mark and it'll be Cam there as
and they'll bring you our long Orange game day coverage

(09:06):
coming away from third Base up in Round Rock, correct, third.

Speaker 3 (09:10):
Base up in Round Rock off of Lilis Henna.

Speaker 4 (09:12):
Yeah, make sure you come out and hang out with
us and we'll have a good time.

Speaker 3 (09:16):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
So that'll that'll be happening on Saturday. But again it's
a two thirty kickoff. I have a one thirty network
airtime at a two thirty, two thirty kickoff between Texas
and Florida. And you heard Sark talk about this, and
he was very adamant about this when we were recording
Long Worn Weekly last night over on campus, and you'll

(09:38):
hear that program tonight here on thirteen under the Zone
coming away at seven o'clock.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
He was very very.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
Adamant in talking about this Florida team not being the
one in three that a team that folks might ascribe
because they're one in three.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
He points out they played two top five teams.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
They were ranked in the top five at the time,
obviously ls who has fallen since after the loss to
Ole Miss, but they were number four, number three at
the time, and then obviously Miami as well. And but
Sark also said, we'll hear him talk a little bit
about this as well going on for whatever reason, and
I think you can take those three words. For whatever reason,

(10:26):
they haven't got their offense in gear yet, And he said,
I don't know what it is, and we know how
talented DJ Lagway is, but they've had some change and
some injury with their offense in front as well, and
they just hadn't got They've got a good tough running
back and Jayden ball, but they just haven't gotten their
offense in total gear yet or while the defense has

(10:46):
played very well for them.

Speaker 4 (10:47):
Yeah, that's been the question mark for everybody when you
start to look at DJ Lagway and the expectations. Going
back to the conversation about Arch, he was another guy
that was up in the Heisman conversation. He comes out
doesn't look sharp, make some questionable throws from time to time,
and obviously that five interception game was not going to
play well in front of that fan base.

Speaker 3 (11:09):
But here's something too we were talking about.

Speaker 4 (11:11):
You know, this is a guy who has not played
a lot of football, and what I mean by that
is he wasn't around for the spring, he wasn't really
around for the fall, and then all of a sudden
he gets to work into this situation right now. So
it's a their offense is not where they expected it
to be at this time either.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
Yeah, no doubt about. All right, we need a break.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
When we come back, we'll get everybody's thoughts on where
the Texas offense is right now, let's say trying for it.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
So we're going to do that coming up.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
We're out of here until six o'clock this evening, so
we hope you'll come on out and say hi to us,
get yourself something to eat and great beverages. Well here
at Twin Peaks, the stasting location, I have thirty five
at Stashney here a special SEC football preview right here
on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone and where
you always listen to us for free. I'm a Guyheart

(12:03):
Radio app. Now back to the Craig West Show. I'm
thirteen hundred. That's Zoo live from Twin Peaks. Dasney lay.

Speaker 4 (12:14):
That's where we are, Twin Peaks, Dassny Laye just south.
You want to make sure that you get off on
thirty five and Stastny come over and check out Sierra.
She's taken care of us today and everybody's having a
good time as we continue the conversations about Texas and
them getting ready to play their first SEC matchup, which

(12:36):
is unique because Texas is the only team that has
not played an SEC matchup yet.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah, it's a little weird. Sark, we're talking about that
last time he said, who is it? Is it LSU
or role miss. It's already played three games three right, yep?
And uh and then and of course Florida has only
played one and this will be the first one there.
And we'll hear a comment from Sark about that a
little bit later on when somebody asked if it's an advantage,

(13:02):
disadvantage or whatever, doesn't matter, and you know, like most coaches,
his whole deal is just to say, you know, we
play what's on the schedule, right, We play the games
that are on the schedule, that sort of thing.

Speaker 3 (13:13):
But I would.

Speaker 2 (13:14):
Imagine, certainly, I think everybody was expecting the three weeks
of non conference play at home to help the Longhorns
really get into a rhythm, especially offensively, and especially with
the quarterback.

Speaker 5 (13:31):
Well, I'm looking forward to seeing how that's going to
go because he's had a little time off and time
to work with guys that haven't got a lot of
reps in Moseley and now you know, mister Wisner would
be one of those guys that you know, probably got
a lot of reps in these last weekend and a

(13:51):
half off.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Absolutely, And coming up on the back side of the
three o'clock hour will have our DJC Law injury update,
which is courtesy of the SEC Student Athlete Availability Report, which,
by the way, I think most schools in the SEC
would prefer that you call it that. I know at
Texas they do, and I said, call it the injury

(14:14):
report exactly.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
But we are.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Assessing injuries of guys, you know. That's and and it
does show that Trey Wisner is listed as probable this week,
So that's a healthy side. And really and truly this
was something Cam that we figured was probably going to
be precautionary anyway that you know, at the first week

(14:37):
after the San Jose State game, we heard maybe he
could go if it was a conference game and they
really needed to go, and probably could have gone a
U TEP game, almost certainly could have gone on into
the Sam Houston game.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
But why take that chance and a chance to look
at some other young guys too.

Speaker 6 (14:53):
It's such a long season now, it can be a
fifteen to sixteen game season. These guys when you get
to January December, they are so banged up. Why play
him in games where you don't necessarily need them right now?
I'm sure Stark would love to get CJ. Baxter and
Trey Wisner and Jack Injuries and DeAndre Moore, all those

(15:14):
guys you know, more reps developed that chemistry with the offense.
But at the same time, you need those guys for
SEC play, right because how did Texas win so many
ball games last season running the ball effectively in the
second half. The offense got better as the game went on.
Trey Wistern got better as the game went on. Even
two years ago, when they defeated Alabama at Brian Denny,

(15:35):
it was being able to run the ball that solidified
that victory. So for Stark in this offense, hey, for sure, Baxter,
I mean Bascher wasn't healthy going into Oho State, coming
off of that season ending injury a year ago. Let's
get these guys healthy, right, Let's get him prepared for
confidence to play. At the same time with that token,
now you guys like Jared Gibson, James Simon more reps.

Speaker 3 (15:56):
Hey see, let's let's see what you can.

Speaker 6 (15:57):
Do, right, And I think we're all impressed with what
Jared Gibson has done and also James Simon. So now
sark goes in the conference play knowing that, hey, Trey
Wiseo ran for one thousand yards last season is healthy. Baxter,
who two years ago, last year, going the last year
was going to be your starter, is healthy. By the way,
I got Jared Gibson and James Simon who I know
I can trust. Plus we've got Ryan Neblet who we

(16:17):
can use, and Christian Clark. Right, so we've seen all
those guys. Sarka's five last year at this time, Sark
get two running backs, right, He's bringing in transfers from
SMU to.

Speaker 3 (16:27):
Come in and help that running back room.

Speaker 6 (16:28):
So I think with these guys coming back for conference play,
it's critical because now you begin a five game stretch, right,
you go against Florida, you go against Oklahoma, by the way,
a really good team down in Starkville on the road,
who has impressed a lot of people so far in Vanderbilt,
who gave Texas a real good test, and then don't
sleep on Kentucky. So it's important that Sark gets these

(16:49):
guys back healthy. But now we've also seen what some
of the younger guys can do.

Speaker 5 (16:54):
It's always good to actually see the people that are
standing with the clipboard get some reps. Is also good
to see the running backs that are, you know, third
and fourth on the depth chart gets some reps.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
Is it hate?

Speaker 5 (17:09):
It sucks that somebody in the first or second running
back had to get hurt for it to happen. But
when it gets late in the season, like you said, Camp,
you're gonna need those guys to be able to go
out there and perform. And you have all the faith
in the world in them because early in the season
you got to see them.

Speaker 3 (17:26):
Next man up.

Speaker 6 (17:26):
Right, We've heard Stark say it a million times, next
man up, But you know, first and foremost, You know,
a lot is made of Sarks offense, right, and you
think of what he's gonna do with arch Manning the
receiver attack. He wants to run the football. Sark wants
to be able to run the football effectively. And you know,
through the first four games, I mean against Wiho State,
they run the ball pretty well against maybe the best
defense in college football with Saju Baxter and Trade Washeron.

(17:48):
Now we haven't had a football game with both those
guys playing yet because of injuries and rest and so forth.
So Harje, I want to see what this running attack
can do against the Florida team. And we saw Miami
Florida do a pretty good job running the ball against Florida.
Now defensively, they got some big boys up front though,
It's going to be a big test for this Texas
offensive line.

Speaker 4 (18:09):
Yes, it's important for Texas to establish the run, so
to speak, because I think arch Manning is better when
he has a little bit more of the play action,
you know, gives him that opportunity to see what is
the indicators are in those particular moments. So I look
forward to that as well. In the offensive line when
they're running the ball, well, they get really excited about it.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Yeah, it makes a big difference. So here's a comment
from Sark. He was asked about the progress. I think
it was a friend Bob Blou from k I asked
this question the progress of Jared Gibson. Why Jared Gibson
in specific, Jared Gibson's from.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Gainesville, Florida.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
He's going back from town now. He played at IMG
Academy in Tampa. But the mere fact that he's going
back home and some of the other Florida guys going
back home, and what that means to the ground attack
and what that means to the rest of the team
with the Florida guys going home. Here's here's some comment
about that from Sart.

Speaker 7 (19:03):
I'd say for Jeric in particular, to start off on him,
I think the best game he had last season was
actually against Florida. I think he had one hundred yard
game a year ago in this one. You know, I
think that he's found a niche in a role. I
think he you know, we've continued to try to expand
his running style, but at the end of the day,
he's a physical runner, he's a downhill runner. He gets

(19:25):
behind his pads. You know, I think he learned a
valuable lesson. You know, I Kimer early in the season,
Cameron which game when when the ball got out and
he lost you know, lost a fumble there, and has
really made it a point of emphasis with his running
style how important it is to protect the ball. But
he but he gives us a different style runner when
he's in the game, with the physicality in which he does.

(19:46):
He's a great short yardage back and I know he's
excited to go home. You know, we've we've obviously expanded
our net when it comes to recruiting and and we
have recruited Florida probably more than recently than we have
in the past. And whether it was you know, Cedric
Baxter or or or Jerrick or Grayson Littleton or Jamie

(20:09):
French or Myron Charles. You know, we've got We've got
a fair amount of guys on this team that are
that are from the state of Florida. We have a
couple of guys on the team that were committed to
Florida and then ended up committing and playing for us,
and so you know, there's definitely some crossover there. But
but I know it's a big deal when those guys
getting an opportunity to go home. That's very proud football
state as well. Uh, so I know they're all looking

(20:31):
forward to the opportunity.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
Yeah, that is a state that sark has recruited with
more frequency, especially in Floridas, as we all known, has
produced four star and five star athletes for decades. It
has going back even before Emmitt Smith. You know, Chris
Collinsworth would would come to mind. You know that that's
one of the guys, uh that come out of the

(20:55):
state of Florida. But there's been more of an emphasis
on the upper crust, the elite of those student athletes
in Florida that Sarka has really sought and has been
able to land a few lately. He just ticked off
the list there.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
Well, they say, if you won't speed go look at Florida.

Speaker 5 (21:10):
Yeah, and Texas has done a good job of going
down there and poaching if you will, a few of
those guys. But there's so many Texas kids that go
to Florida and Pennsylvania and Ohio, so it balances out.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
I love the fact that Sarka is able to expand
the borders, so to speak, because at first when he
first got here, I was a little disappointed because he
kept going so much out of the state of Texas,
because there is so much talent that is here. But
if you're gonna go out into another state, at least
get the best ones out of that state, right, you're
gonna try to bring them here to the University.

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Of Texas Cream of the Cross, exact of the line. Guys, Yeah,
for sure about that. And I don't think any of us,
uh Now, this guy young man wasn't from Florida, but
I don't think anybody had any objections to Texas being
able to land Jon Robinson back in the day. By
the way, Bijeon will be our guest tonight alonghorton Weekly
with Sark. We'll also visit with a speaking of recruiting,

(22:10):
Chris Gilbert special assistant who was the director of high
school Relations. Then he went to North Texas as tight
ends coach and when he did, that's when Jamal Fenner
was hired from LBJ to be the director of high
school relations. Both have since I've gotten promotions. Chris Gilbert
coming back as a special assistant kind of overseeing all
of the things along with the GM of the program

(22:32):
Brandon Harrison, and then in addition to that, they get
a chance to have not only Chris Gilbert doing what
he's doing, but also Jamal Finner, and so that's helped
increase the scope of what they're doing with recruiting to
where it includes Florida and California and other states as well.

Speaker 3 (22:55):
Makes a big difference for that.

Speaker 6 (22:57):
Let me just say, Greg, I think the interview last
night with Chris Gilbert is one of the best we've
had all season long, just from a comedic standpoint, because
they had there's some great stories there seeing Chris Gilbert.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
Definitely check it out tonight. And I'm not going to
give the story away. You'll have to listen to it
to hear it.

Speaker 2 (23:13):
But there is one story that they tell when Sark
was the head coach at Washington and Chris Gilbert was
the head coach at Lancaster and Lancaster had an outstanding
defensive end ended up going to Texas A and M
and was on the opposite side of the defensive front
with Miles Garrett in college station. But he was supposed

(23:36):
to go to Washington and was committed to go to
Washington and it changed on national signing day, and the
story behind it is not to be missed. You'll you'll
definitely not only the story, but Sark's reaction to it.
I think that's what made it even better. So it
was it was something else. It's it's definitely worth saying.

Speaker 6 (23:57):
Attention and he laughed hard in a long time. I'm
greg it was. I just sat back and just let
it roll. I mean they it's always.

Speaker 2 (24:05):
Good when you hear a story that you hadn't heard,
hadn't heard that one, And and the way they told
it was in equal parts. Sarks started it off and
laid it out, and then Chris Gilbert comes in with
really kind of a punchline of the whole story and
what happened, and then it's just like Sark's reaction to it.
It's it's it's hilarious. It's definitely worth listening to. It'll

(24:29):
be seven o'clock tonight and then what ree years tomorrow.

Speaker 6 (24:31):
Correct tomorrow, seven o'clock, same time on thirteen or of the
zone all year long? Do you miss it on Thursdays?
Check it out on Fridays as well.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
So we'll have that all right, coming up more on
the Texas offense, we'll talk a little bit about that
Florida Gator defense as well.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
Where are we We're at.

Speaker 2 (24:46):
Twin Peaks, I thirty five and Stastny as hard so
adroitly phrased it. When you're coming down I thirty five,
get off at Stasty. If you're on the west side,
I might offer this suggestion to you, if you can
come down Mollpack and then come over on Ben White.
It turns south on Congress and then I left on Stastny.

Speaker 3 (25:06):
Come in the back way.

Speaker 4 (25:07):
That's the smartest waiting to go, because that's exactly how
I came. Because I already know what thirty five looks
like on the overpack because you did it. No, I said,
that's the smartest way to get got here a lot quicker.

Speaker 3 (25:18):
He like me, got help from his old friend g P. S. Boom.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Know the routes, baby, Know the routes makes a big difference,
all right, Rather your Twin Peaks, High thirty five and Stasty,
come on out, have some great food and beverage, and
talk some football with us here on this Thursday afternoon
on Sports Radio A. I'm thirteen under the zone of
the iHeartRadio app. Now back to the Craigway Show. I'm
thirteen hundred The Zone live from twenty stastny Lay. That's

(25:51):
where we are in South Austin today here in Stasty
at Twin Peaks Up.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
You'll come on out and in Way.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
The great appetizers and the great meals and the beverages
that they have here, as they like to say, eat drink,
some scenic views. And the scenic views today also include
they've got the baseball playoff game going on right now,
the wild card game between the Guardians and the Tigers.
It's in the bottom of the second inning and scoreless
Cleveland with a man aboard and two down there. This

(26:23):
is really interesting and I'll and we'll get back to
football in a minute. But you get de twenty in
Cleveland playing today, and you had two guys that you'd
almost never heard of going to the mound, and you're
gonna have two rookies going to the mound tonight in
the Boston New York series as well.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
Yep. Interesting, how that's coming up here in October.

Speaker 4 (26:43):
Well, that's what October baseball is all about. Being able
to get the September call up guys, guys that have
earned it through the minor leagues. And again, a lot
of times it's the unknown, right, Like you don't have
a scouting report.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
That's right there, you go.

Speaker 4 (26:57):
You gotta start calling down to the minor leagues getting
the reports on those guys.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (27:01):
Now I amended a little bit because Detroit does have
Jack Clarity on the man. Absolutely, And he was part
of the World Championship team for the Dodgers last year
and then went back to Detroit, so he's pitching there.
I'm a big fan of him. I'm a big fan
of his yeah, uh yeah. And as a Dodger fan,
I hated to see him go. But the starting pitchings
turned out okay for la.

Speaker 3 (27:21):
I mean, the real baseball is played later.

Speaker 2 (27:23):
Yeah, hello, blake'snew good good to see you with the
with the Dodgers and Tyler Glass now and all that.
And it was announced last night Shoeyo Tiny is going
to start Game one on the mound against the Phillies
in the U in the Division Series. And what he
did when he faced the Phillies a couple of weeks
ago was to throw five no hit innings. Now, the
Dodger bup blew the lead and they lost the game. Later,

(27:44):
but that's beside the point.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
Uh So.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
Anyway, So the baseball is going on later this afternoon
Cups Padre's decisive third game at Wrigley Field.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
You like san Diego and I do like San Diego.

Speaker 4 (27:56):
I just think this is a team that you've seen
all year long that was given the Dogs a little
run all the way to the very end. And I
think this is one of those situations where a guy
like you Darvish, can flip the script on his time
when he was with the Cubs to now where he's
at with the Padres.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:13):
Absolutely, And that's the late afternoon game. And then tonight
Red Sox Yankees Game three in the Bronx.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Who do you have. I've got the Red Sox winning
this game tonight.

Speaker 4 (28:25):
I know it's tough because they don't have the sticks
in the lineup. If they were, they had another bat
in that lineup, it would be a no brainer. Be
one of those games that is down to the wire.
But the Yankees, I mean, they got to show up
in these particular moments. This is where you understand where
all the money has gone. This is the big money
you need. John Carlos Stanton, who's been healthy for the

(28:48):
most part to come up with a big hit. This
is Aaron Judge, who we all assume. Well, I saw
some people voted on your show that it was all
Cayl Riley that was gonna be gonna be the VP,
So I look at that. But these are the moments
that those Yankee fans have been waiting for for their
big money guys to show up.

Speaker 5 (29:07):
I gotta see that tonight, Like John Carlos got to
perform tonight, and Judge has got to perform tonight. The
final closeout game is a game where your team needs
you the most, and you're gonna be going against not
the best.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Picture on your squad, on the other team squad. Yep.

Speaker 5 (29:24):
So a rookie going against Judge, he's gonna his knees
will be knocking a little bit.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
And I think Rice is a is an X factor
for this well.

Speaker 4 (29:33):
And Chisom finally getting in the lineup. I mean, come on, man,
a boy, he shouldn't have been out of the lineup
in game one.

Speaker 3 (29:39):
Management, I'm telling you the manager, it's funny. In my
hot seat, it's funny.

Speaker 2 (29:44):
Aaron dun Shad afterwards, you know when they asked him
about you know, and Jazz was not happy about it.

Speaker 3 (29:49):
I mean he is.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
It's not up to me to worry about how he feels.
That's up to him to go out and plays butter
off when.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
He gets a chance. Well he did that, Absolutely, he
did that.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
So interesting to see how all of that rolls down
as well. Uh, Mark, he's got podres against Cubs today
at Wrickley.

Speaker 3 (30:08):
What do you have?

Speaker 5 (30:09):
I'm gonna go with Cubs because you see him punk
and not only that, because Hars just wants to see
my teams lose.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
Are the Cubs one of your teams?

Speaker 5 (30:18):
No, I'm a I'm a Yankee fan, that's it.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
I see all right, Cam, how do you how do
you see these?

Speaker 6 (30:24):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (30:24):
You're supposed to have one team? I got one team.
You're you're anti more than one team?

Speaker 5 (30:30):
Yeah, okay, I'm team pick one team and stick with them.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
But you're a Cowboys fan.

Speaker 5 (30:35):
Right unfortunately?

Speaker 3 (30:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (30:37):
See this guy, this guy here is is what I
call a self loathing Cowboys fan. So he he gets
mad and and and disassociates his s fandom from.

Speaker 5 (30:47):
It's actually his love is manifested itself because he's hurt.
It hurt him to his core because they're rotten and
the management is even even worse.

Speaker 3 (30:59):
I could have said it any better, Thank you, Mark.

Speaker 5 (31:02):
But see Hard and I we wear it on our sleep.
I was gonna I was gonna let it go, Cam.
I was gonna be just like you. I was gonna boycott.
I wasn't gonna watch one Cowboy game.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
You can't quit him.

Speaker 5 (31:14):
And Hard said, Mark, you'll be doing yourself a dis
service and your fandom of disservice. So I went on
and stuck it.

Speaker 6 (31:22):
That heart is wrong because you know, you know how
you know misery loves company. You know how I slept
someday night because I was in bed by halftime. See,
because I disassociated myself from the Cowboys. That's what you
gotta do, brother, Step away, step away.

Speaker 3 (31:42):
But they keep calling me.

Speaker 6 (31:44):
See there, you are the worst defense in the NFL
by far, by far, were talking about I was a
Cowboys were talking about baseball five minutes ago.

Speaker 2 (31:51):
Now to the Dallas Cowboys, I said, we were gonna
you did I did say that. And and here's a
phenomenon that I have discovered of time. It is now
quite fashionable for today's group, the gen Z and below
uh to just quit quit a team.

Speaker 3 (32:14):
You're not my team anymore. I don't root for you anymore.

Speaker 5 (32:16):
I'm gonna start cheering for another team. Yeah, in the
same division. I have a son who's who's thirty five.
He's on his third team. When he was a little kid,
he was a little kid, he like.

Speaker 2 (32:28):
The Jaguars, like Fred Taylor and Mark Brunell and all
that kind of stuff. And then they went south and
we were living in Texas and he said, you know,
I live out here, I really should root for the
team in my state. So he starts rooting for the Cowboys,
and then that that you know, you know how those.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
Were now Kansas City fan where they win. Now it's
a weird deal.

Speaker 2 (32:45):
He and his fiancee, who grew up Wisconsin, they said,
we got to pick a new team, and she said,
don't pick the Packers. We've got to go completely neutral.
Right before the season, he announces that his new favorite
team that he's gonna buy a jersey from and he's
gonna watch and maybe travels.

Speaker 3 (33:01):
He is the Miami Dolphins. Oh my goodness. And I
was like, well, he couldn't step in. He could not
have picked the worst.

Speaker 5 (33:09):
Time to jump on the all do you have to
Mike McDaniel interviews.

Speaker 2 (33:14):
Yeah, why you believe that he's that he's vaping or
something at the dime.

Speaker 3 (33:18):
He's always got it in his hand.

Speaker 5 (33:21):
You think that. You know, you see most coaches they
have a pen or a pencil and a piece of
paper and they're writing. And him, he gotta he's got
a baby in his hand. And I don't think it's tobacco,
I really don't.

Speaker 2 (33:35):
He's uh, you know, he's part of that collection of
coaches that that offensive mastermind stuff him and uh, who's
your man in Green Bay? Lafloor, the Lafleur, Uh and
Sean McVay with the Rams. And you know who else
is tight in that group?

Speaker 4 (33:56):
Right?

Speaker 3 (33:57):
Him too? You know who else is? Sark?

Speaker 2 (34:00):
Oh, he frequently flies in the off season to meet
with these guys.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (34:07):
I remember, I guess it was a couple of years ago.
He we had to do a speaking thing together in
Houston and he was going we landed back in Austin
and the next day he was going out to la
to meet with McVeigh and then he was going up
to Green Bay to meet with Lafleur.

Speaker 3 (34:22):
And didn't he have McVeigh. They spoke at his clinic,
So Jenahan too, I believe at one point, I hope.

Speaker 5 (34:32):
He runs a couple of those plays that the Rams
ran last week. They ran such a couple of innovative
plays with the wide receiver went in motion one way
and the running back in the tight end came out.

Speaker 3 (34:44):
And they flipped it.

Speaker 5 (34:45):
Yeah, and there was nobody over there, and you know,
everybody went with the gents week.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
You know, he's a big part of that, all that motion,
So Jordan, I mean, is Whittington is a big part
of that. And so they uh, they use So there's
a lot of like minded stuff going on.

Speaker 3 (35:03):
I love it. I love it.

Speaker 5 (35:05):
And and Hart was I told them today I picked
the Rams And what did you say? But no, you said,
why are you going with the Rams? Because the because
they win?

Speaker 4 (35:18):
Yeah, yeah, I did give them a hard time on
that because I picked them to win their division number one,
I think, and I think they're the team that's gonna
come out of the NFC if if everybody stays healthy.

Speaker 3 (35:31):
That's a big thing.

Speaker 4 (35:31):
Because they have a back injury with Stafford Staft. Afford
doesn't look like the back is bothering him much at all.

Speaker 2 (35:37):
No, and the running game has helped to the offensive line,
UH got banged up last year, and that they've got
to stay healthy. I think the team to beat in
that division is probably Seattle, but but I think the
DRAMs have a good shot in the two games that
they have against one another. Will tell UH an awful
lot on that all right back to college football will
do when we come back to wrap up our remember

(35:59):
one of four hours today from here at Twin Peaks
I thirty five and Stastny here on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred Zone of the iHeartRadio app. Second hour of
the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred zone.
Glad to have you with us from Twin Peaks Stastny
location I thirty five at Stasty here in South Austin.

(36:20):
Like we said, if you're over on the east side
or coming from downtown, you just good luck to you.
But stay on I thirty five and then you get
off at Stasney. If you're on the west side, you're
better suited perhaps just rolling down Mo Pack and getting
off at Ben White too, and IY come across to Congress,
drop south for about a mile and hang a left
on Stastney.

Speaker 3 (36:40):
You're there, So it's easy to do.

Speaker 2 (36:43):
Mike Cardball, Harne, Mark Henry, cam Parker all here as well.
And you know, Mark Henry trying to be funny here
with with you're used to this? Is he a regular
for sight Gags's.

Speaker 4 (37:00):
That's all ninety nine percent of his morning's high stay awake? Yeah,
I'm like, dude, hanging there. Craig got a couple hours left.

Speaker 3 (37:13):
Yeah, no, actually three hours left. We're three hours. We
have a four hour.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
Edition of this program up until six o'clock here this evening.
I want to take a look around the SEC. But
before I do that. From head coach Stieve Sarkesian's weekly
media Zoom, he was asked, uh, you know, for the
injury update, and we'll have our DJC law injury update

(37:39):
coming up just a little bit later on. But he
was asked, you know, not only about Trey weisnerman. He
was also asked about him at Moseley. We've not seen
him at Mosley on the field in a Longhorn uniform.
I mean he's been able to practice, but he has
not seen action in a game. He's listed as probable
and it's a good sign or is it questionable? It

(38:00):
was question The question was though, but he feels better
about him. And here's more from Sark about Mt. Mosley's
status and how he might be able to impact the
offensive system.

Speaker 7 (38:09):
I love Emmett as a player, you know, I should.
I wish we had him this first first four games
of the season. You know, he is a very dynamic
player for Stanford a year ago. He's a guy that
has length, very good hands, He's sudden, he's a really
good route runner. You know, obviously he's a he's an
elite blocker. And and what it does and now it

(38:30):
really gives you that third receiver that has some length
to him. You know, obviously with what Ryan's length and
Parker's length and now and now Emmett's length and so
and a guy with experience, a guy who's played and
now with Parker's experience and Ryan, those three guys, you know,
provide a little something different to go along with, you know,
DeAndre and then Dala McCutcheon. I feel like we're we're

(38:53):
starting to formulate that that kind of group that we
were hoping to have. But it's great to have Himittt.
You know, he's a guy that his has really worked
hard to get back healthy. You know he's got a
pro mentality about his approach, and I think not only
is he good for the room in his approach to
I think he's good for our team. He's good for
our offense in particular that way with just his approach

(39:14):
to the way that he works.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Well, when you get into conference play, you want to
have all your weapons or as many weapons as possible,
especially in this league.

Speaker 4 (39:22):
Well, and the thing about it is coach Sark waited
to this moment. He gave him all the time, he
gave all the other guys reps because they needed it.
This is a guy that's graduated from Stanford, so he's
already played a lot of football, so you start to
look at how he approaches this weekend and finally having

(39:43):
him with the ability to go out there and do
the things that he's capable of. This was big for
Texas if if because he is questionable, we'll see what
ends up happening as the days go by.

Speaker 5 (39:53):
And you didn't want him to have way. You want
him to be at full strength yep. And one of
his things is the fact that he's a very physical
wide receiver. He likes to go and block and finish blocks.
So when you get a guy like that, like, do
you want him out there actually halfway with something that
he's nursing, or do you want him to be the

(40:14):
guy that he really is.

Speaker 3 (40:16):
Yeah, I think it's important.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
That's part of the reason why there was the weight
on Trey Wisterer as well, wanting to have him at
full speed and completely available. He's talked about that with
everybody that's been banged up that he's brought back, he
wanted to be able to have them at full speed
and not just be limited to being able to do
one thing or maybe a couple of things. You want

(40:41):
to have his full catalog of skill set for you.

Speaker 5 (40:44):
And I would think that being a physical blocker, he
may have a little nest in him like a tight
end and wants to run you over too. So his
offense of like not just the blocking side, but the
receiving side and what you do after the play. If
you watched any of his films, you'll see the fact
that he is an attacker. He's not gonna try to

(41:06):
run away from you, He's gonna try to run through you. Wow.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
And so if you have guys like that, if you
have an abundance of guys like that in a league
like this, it's gonna make you all the more dangerous.

Speaker 4 (41:18):
And that's what Texas needs. And that also helps with
the running game. You know some of those explosive plays. Yep,
We've missed out on a lot of those big time
plays because of a block here or a block there
that was missed.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
And now you.

Speaker 4 (41:30):
Got somebody that comes in and takes accountability for his blocking.
It makes everyone around him understand that, hey, I have
to do this too, because this guy is coming back.
He's gonna take my reps and he's gonna take my
playing time, so I have to make sure I step
my game up as well.

Speaker 5 (41:46):
Oh you got to do is see him finished one
block and a big run goes for fifty yards in
a touchdown, and then everybody else on that's coming off
the bench is going up. They gain.

Speaker 2 (41:55):
Yeah, no doubt about The other position I think that
has really me during the course of this season so
far is the tight end spot. Now we have seen
already what jack Enryes is capable of doing, and I
think I think we could probably draw conclusions that Spencer

(42:16):
Shannon and Nick Townsend are good blockers and that Jordan Washington,
of course, he had the touchdown catch against him. Houston
and even Amari Winston can be guys that can be
stretched the field down the seam guys. This is the
first time I can remember this my twenty fifth season
of doing play by play on this team, and it's
the first time I can remember not having enough boxes

(42:39):
for all the guys who could see regular action on that.
I've only got room for four on the tight ends.
But so I've got another chart, which is ah it's
at the reserve charge, reserve charge, and normally it's for
like young guys and freshmen and all that and walk
ons and.

Speaker 3 (42:55):
Things like that.

Speaker 2 (42:56):
He's on that chart, but we regularly have to make
reference to that.

Speaker 6 (43:00):
I can attest to that, Craig, because I spotted for
you for what the UTEB game. He used all five
to ten tights in the first eighty five, eighty two,
eighty three, you know, And I asked.

Speaker 2 (43:11):
Him, remember in pregame, I said how many, I said you,
And I said, how many tight ends do you want
to do you want to use? Do you want to
use all five? He said, we want to use all
five in the first half, and they did. Now and
I don't know that that'll be necessarily the case against Florida.
But my point is is that it's giving him and
the offense the flexibility to hurt teams. Not just with

(43:34):
having a guy like Andrees or even Jordan Washington who's emerged,
or perhaps and I'm already Winston who can stretch the
field down la Sema mate catches, but guys like Channing
in town, so any other guys as well who are
really prolific and engaging blockers to your point mark of
being able to get the downfield running games.

Speaker 5 (43:52):
And hards made a great point just a minute ago
when he said that that's not on the scouting report
when he was talking about baseball.

Speaker 3 (43:59):
Is the same thing with these young tight ends.

Speaker 5 (44:02):
When they come in and there's no film on them,
you think, oh, then obviously not going to go to him.
And then when you go to him, now you you've
created the first down that you probably wouldn't have gotten
without that guy being a secret You know what.

Speaker 2 (44:16):
They also expect demand that their wide receivers block well, yes,
and and that sometimes can be a real challenge for
guys to get comfortable with that. Parker Livingston, I think
it was really a willing blocker. But he also got

(44:37):
called for a hold right and early in the game
against San Jose State before he had the eighty three
yard touchdown. And guys have to Guys have to learn that.
I think veterans like DeAndre Moore and Ryan Wingo are
guys who can show that. They show young guys like
Dade McCutcheon and and and even Ryan Nibleck, guys like

(44:58):
that in Livingstone a chance to show how you can
properly engage, block and then disengage so you don't have
the flag.

Speaker 5 (45:05):
And that that play was already pasted him. So he's
got to understand that you're not getting brownie points just
because you show that you're blocking. Yeah, the best browning
points is when you watch film and coach goes, hey,
that's a good block, rather than you trying to get
noticed for it, like just be you.

Speaker 2 (45:24):
Rick Barnes used to have a phrase for that kind
of that kind of activity. He called it false hustle. Yep, basketball,
don't let me see you like diving out of bounds
to try to to when you got no shot to
save a ball that was a bad pass made in
the backcourt. And it's going to be a turnover and
you're and you're giving me false hustle. Don't do that.

(45:45):
Make sure that your energies and your concentration are spent
in the proper ways. Hustle, yes, but don't do it
just to.

Speaker 3 (45:53):
Show what you're caking.

Speaker 5 (45:54):
That's awesome. I like that.

Speaker 3 (45:55):
Yeah, he is. He has said that. By the way.

Speaker 2 (45:59):
Uh, I'm close to Rick Barnes. I love the man.
Every time I do an interview with him. Now, when
Texas played Tennessee, he says, I love you, Craig, and
we we say all that.

Speaker 3 (46:08):
All that said, I'm glad bo Hogden's Texas. Oh my god,
come on, man, give me hey.

Speaker 5 (46:14):
I was so happy to hear that he was staying
home because of how much of a fan I was
of his dad.

Speaker 3 (46:21):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (46:21):
And you know, I always say that the Abbatoan far
far from the tree when it comes to your work ethic.

Speaker 3 (46:27):
There was never a ut player that worked harder than him. Yeah,
II is is.

Speaker 2 (46:31):
Like that, and he works hard as a general man
talking about Chris hogged and his dad would played there
and played for Rick Barnes.

Speaker 3 (46:36):
And I will tell you this and I am and bow.

Speaker 2 (46:38):
Kind of alluded to you were at the at the
commitment ceremony, the announcement. Uh, he had a hard decision,
even he was also very much impressed with Matt.

Speaker 3 (46:48):
Painter and produced he was, and with good reason.

Speaker 2 (46:50):
Uh. That's that is that is a standard bearing program.
That's that's a program to do a lot. But I
think in his heart of hearts, it was coming down
to Texas or Tennessee.

Speaker 3 (46:59):
And we're remember when he was little. I'm old enough
to remember when the kid was bold.

Speaker 2 (47:03):
Exactly, but when he was when he was little, and
Chris Hocken was on Rick Barnes staff at Tennessee. Well
lockedin's growing up around that that family, that Tennessee family,
and and knows what a great human being coach Barnes says,
as well as an outstanding coach. So that that all
made it more difficult. And then and then with with

(47:28):
his dad sticking around the camp. Although I give credit
to Bow and I give credit to his dad, his
dad stayed out of it. Yep, he is he said
what both said. He didn't know until this morning exactly.
That's why I came down to the wire. He said
he didn't know, he didn't and and and you know, Chris,
you know couldn't know until the morning of the announcement, couldn't.

Speaker 5 (47:50):
Couldn't you really kind of come to a conclusion that
he was going to choose Texas because of coach Miller's
offensive style too. That's that he know he's going to
get elevated plays. He know that he's going to get
double screens, and he's going to get a wide open
shot a lot of times. And a guy that shoots
close to forty five forty seven percent, Yeah, I'll take

(48:12):
those odds. Yeah, I want to play in that system.
When you go to coach Barnes, what's going to be
the first thing that he says, Well, you're locking down
on defense.

Speaker 3 (48:20):
We're going to play defense, guys.

Speaker 4 (48:23):
And when Sean Miller's teams play defense, they do they
play They play hard nosed defense, and he's physical coaches.

Speaker 2 (48:29):
But your point, your point is is that Coach Miller's
offense will be better designed for the shooter.

Speaker 3 (48:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (48:36):
Yeah, I think we're all in agreement on that. So
that's good that that was a good thing.

Speaker 4 (48:40):
And I couldn't agree with you more about what you
said about Rick Barnes and being a part of that
kid's life from the very beginning, and it was something
that as I was watching and trying to figure out
what the next move was going to be. That was
the discussion amongst some of the media members because of
the relationship that coach Ogden had with Coach Barnes. Yeah,

(49:02):
it was a tough decision for that young man.

Speaker 2 (49:04):
Yeah, No, I don't think anybody would have blamed him.
He said, Hey, my dad played for coach Barnes, and
I grew up around it, and I'm gonna go and play.
Nobody would have Nobody would have blamed him for that.
But he just thought for all reasons that this wound
up being the best, like I said, and I'm gonna
I'm gonna promote it again. If you get a chance
to listen to Logorn Weekly with Coach Sart tonight, the
recruiting story that they tell he and Chris Gilbert, his

(49:28):
special assistant, is not to be missed.

Speaker 3 (49:30):
It's it is a classic story.

Speaker 5 (49:32):
Craig, don't you agree that it's a good business decision too,
because you know, like you grew up in this environment,
in this in this city, and.

Speaker 3 (49:42):
From college to pro.

Speaker 5 (49:43):
If you're blessed and make the pro, you may play
another ten years after high school if you're really, really lucky,
but if you go to University of Texas, not only
will you have an opportunity to play for championships and
all of the things, but after you're done, you come
back to Austin and the prominent businessman here are going

(50:03):
to try to help you in this community. So I
look at him as making a good business decision.

Speaker 3 (50:09):
Well, what was it?

Speaker 2 (50:11):
Coach Brown used to say this when Mack was coaching,
and then Major Applewhite carrying that forward with him, he said,
it's not a four year decision. It's a forty year
decision on what you're going to when you agree to
come to the University of Tech. And you're not making
a four year decision, you're making a forty years.

Speaker 5 (50:26):
Is there a better interview than Mac Brown? I don't
know if I've ever interviewed hard and I had the
blessing the interview.

Speaker 2 (50:36):
He's great and it was spectacular. Yeah, yeah, he's I
enjoyed so much doing his show. And I'll tell you this,
the one guy who has come closest to emulating the style,
the substance of the program, the over arching mission statement
of the program. While coaching the football team, is the

(50:57):
guy who's they had football coach right now that there
are a lot of similarities with how Sark speaks to
the over writing nature of the program, just as Mac.

Speaker 6 (51:11):
Did and Sark talked about it Craig. He did an
interview with a third Longhorn Gang. By the way, their
their previous show airs right before Longhorns game day this
Saturday ten thirty and the post game following the network
post game coverage as well.

Speaker 3 (51:22):
But Sark talked about it.

Speaker 6 (51:24):
It's not just about getting to the league, right, obviously,
that's the end goal for these guys. Developed them, but
developed them as human beings, right yep. And we hear
that sometimes from coaches and you know, like, I don't
know if I really believe him with Sark, I do
and the amount of the effort he puts into these
young kids' lives. But it's also the opportunity that Austin provides, right,
you know what two point two million people here, right,

(51:45):
and there's so many different businesses that are that are
moving here.

Speaker 5 (51:48):
Right.

Speaker 4 (51:48):
So they also have that athlete seminar where they have
all the businesses come in and talk to all the players,
so they can have that as well.

Speaker 2 (51:57):
And again to promote the program at b Jeon Robinson
speaks to that tonight and he's on with us as well.

Speaker 3 (52:02):
All Right, when we come back, we're.

Speaker 2 (52:03):
Going to talk about the SEC overall and what's going
on this weekend and what we're expecting from this weekend.
We're expecting that we were gonna have a good time,
and we are having a good time out here at
Twin Peaks I thirty five and stasting. We MCT you
come on out and take advantage of their beverage specials
are great.

Speaker 3 (52:21):
Food all the night. It is. I can see why
it's called that.

Speaker 2 (52:26):
You know, I think you've out ordered and I don't
mean in quantity, I mean in quality. I think you've
out ordered the restaurant. You know, you're a renaissance man.
We know that about you, you know, no matter what
my card.

Speaker 3 (52:40):
Says, appreciate that.

Speaker 5 (52:41):
All right, I said that. Thank you.

Speaker 2 (52:43):
We'll continue on Sports Radio of thirteen under the zone
of the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (52:55):
Glad to have you with us this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (52:57):
As we talked football, we talk some spawned some other
topics as well as in basketball, and glad to have
you with us this after and by the way, and
I had not mentioned it earlier, but in failing to
do so, I will make it right now by saying,
if you'd like to text the program, as always, we
invite you to text the program. You have only to

(53:21):
text the word texas follow by your question or comment
to eight one five three zero. You text the word
texas follow by your questioner comment to eight one five
three zero. Standard messaging and data rates may apply. So
they texted said, while I don't agree with it, I
can't hate on kids switching teams. Players don't stay on

(53:45):
the same team for more than a year or two.
You fall in love and then they change teams. Well,
it certainly is the case of pro sports. But now
because of the transfer portal and everything else, you know,
and nil being the factor that it is, it's hard
to blame those guys when they have another operative. Actually,
if it's an opportunity to go and play somewhere else,
as well as the opportunity perhaps to earn them at

(54:06):
il at another place.

Speaker 4 (54:07):
Absolutely, and that text that you read, I got one
similar from my wife.

Speaker 3 (54:11):
She was like, Yeah, that's our kids.

Speaker 4 (54:13):
They'll bounce from team to team simply because of the
simple fact that there is no loyalty when you're when
you're growing up with a particular team.

Speaker 3 (54:22):
Like what we used to do, what we went through.

Speaker 4 (54:24):
Now kids to their point, they're going to different schools,
they're moving different teams, they're free agents, they get traded,
and a lot of times they just followed the player.
Like my son DJ, he follows Russell Wilson and Russell Westbrook.
Wherever they go, don't matter the team. But this year
we told them you can stay with Pittsburgh. You can't
be a New York Giants fan. We changed that up.

(54:45):
You actually said that, absolutely absolutely. I said that, yeah,
he can't be being a Giant man.

Speaker 5 (54:53):
But Harts did do this with me for the first
time in four years. I never played fantasy football until
four years ago, and I would always pick with my heart.
I had a lot of Cowboys on my teams.

Speaker 2 (55:07):
I start say, that's not what you want to do
in fantasy. Not necessarily Cowboys.

Speaker 3 (55:11):
I'm talking about Yep, somebody that I liked.

Speaker 5 (55:15):
Yeah, never would I pick an Eagle, a Giant or
Washington Commander. Never in a million years. This year I
have Deebo Samuel on my team. I have the Giants.
Why I receiver Slaton on one of my teams. I
have now I have uh uh Daniel Jones, but he's

(55:36):
a quarterback for a Coat, so I mean it's diversified.

Speaker 3 (55:42):
I think you have to do that.

Speaker 2 (55:43):
I felt the same for it way for a while,
I've drafted a lot of Rams, and partially because the
first year that I was in the league that I'm
in right now was nineteen ninety nine. Was that was
the year the Rams won the Super Bowl and uh
and and in that year, I took Marshall Fall because
I thought he would be good. I took Isaac Bruce
because I thought he would be good. I took Tory Holt,
and I had never heard of Kurt Warner like everybody else,

(56:04):
but I'm a little trade early in the year and
got him. And that's the only year I've won that league.
But so I started drafting Rams pretty regularly and I
couldn't bring myself.

Speaker 3 (56:12):
To draft forty nine ers for a long time.

Speaker 2 (56:15):
That changed, and now George Kittle's hurt for me right now,
but it drafted, you know. So Devo Samuel used to
be a Ram killer before he when he was with
San Francisco, and I have him on my team now,
you know with Washington.

Speaker 3 (56:29):
So yeah, I get what you're saying with regard to that.

Speaker 2 (56:32):
But to the to the question that we got there, yeah,
it kind of. It's understandable when young men are winding
up switching teams as a result of that, and the
educational factor also comes into it as well. Let's hear
something else from Longhorn's head coach, Tive Sarkisha. He was

(56:54):
asked about this was something we brought up a couple
of segments ago. So here's some more context and some
more detail from the head coach about being on the
road and the possibility of the weather being what it is,
does it make getting a fast start, off to a
good start even more important than it normally is?

Speaker 8 (57:16):
I feel like it's always important, you know.

Speaker 7 (57:18):
I mean, if I if I had my drothers, you know,
I've already told you, we'd kick off three and out,
they punt it and we get a good field position
and go score right, and then I know I'm getting
the ball to start the second half.

Speaker 8 (57:28):
But yeah, it'd be great, you know.

Speaker 7 (57:30):
And it's like I said, it's a great environment and
anytime you can neutralize a crowd, it's it's obviously you know,
very helpful when you can do that, and controlling the
ball and and and you know, trying to you know,
create some explosive plays and creating turnovers on defense and
doing some things to try to, you know, take some
of the air out of a crowd. I think is important,

(57:52):
but probably more important to start fast is this is
a good team, and you know, you want to maximize
your opportunities that you're going up and you're playing against
a team like this, because you don't know how many
you have, and so you know their their ability to
run the football and possess the ball is one of
their strengths, and so how many possessions are there going
to be in the game. You need to maximize those opportunities.

(58:13):
You need to score touchdowns in the red area, we
need to create some vertical field position. And with our
special teams unit, they're very good as well. So there's
a lot of there's a lot of storylines to this game,
one of which is starting fast, and it's you know,
it'd be great.

Speaker 8 (58:28):
If we can do that. You know, if we don't,
that's not the end of the world.

Speaker 7 (58:31):
We can still play good and still win a game,
but it would be nice to start fast and to
kind of strike first and be in attack mode that way.

Speaker 3 (58:39):
That way Sart kind.

Speaker 2 (58:40):
Of made an oblique reference to it, but I think
it's important to emphasize a little bit, and that is
number of possessions and depending also on what the weather
conditions are. And then the other thing is he pointed
out when Florida is able to be effective on offense
and they that we mentioned, that's where they get struggling.

Speaker 3 (59:00):
But when they are effective, it's win.

Speaker 2 (59:02):
Like so many other teams are able to run the football,
so being able to limit the run is going to
be a big factor in this.

Speaker 4 (59:07):
And that's why it's important for Texas as the defensive
team that they are up front with all the transfers
being able to control the line of scrimmage. And that
is exactly what Florida needs to do in order to
stop Texas's running games so they can get.

Speaker 3 (59:21):
The ball back to DJ Lagway.

Speaker 4 (59:23):
The biggest question that I have, though, to be perfectly
honest with you, is both of these teams are near
the bottom and third down conversion, So it could be
one of those situations in this game where neither one
of these teams can move the football I think Texas
is trending in the right direction to get those third
and shorts to be able to convert. Just stop getting
those false starts and that will help you as well.

Speaker 3 (59:45):
Yeah, that's the key.

Speaker 2 (59:46):
Also, Marky is if you want to see about if
you want to take the measurement, you look at drive
charts and you want to look at the measurement of
what where Texas has trouble in these constant third downs.

Speaker 3 (59:58):
It's third and long.

Speaker 2 (01:00:00):
I had a statistician with me when I worked in
Dallas who used to keep track of a stat and
the stat was average yards needed on third down. If
you're needing the seven point eight or more or something
like that, you're putting yourself in a bad spot. It's
out what are commonly referred to as manageable third down situation.

Speaker 5 (01:00:20):
Well, you also want to put pressure on quarterbacks. And
the way that you put pressure on quarterbacks is you
have a tight game late in the game, and how
do you do that? You control it by running the ball.
And if you can control it by running the ball,
and you put one of these quarterbacks who both of
them had their struggles, pressure might bust the pipe.

Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
Yeah, well so and the poster example of that is
what Texas did at Tuscaloosa, that Alabama game, where they
basically ran out the last six and a half seven
minutes of the clock by being able to effectively run
the football right.

Speaker 5 (01:00:54):
And that's another reason that the pressure gets put on
a quarterback when you're running out of time.

Speaker 2 (01:01:00):
Coming up, Like I said, we'll have our DJC law
injury update, and I'll look around the sec.

Speaker 3 (01:01:07):
By the way, Cleveland has tied Detroit.

Speaker 2 (01:01:09):
It's one one in the fifth now and that decisive
third game of the they're in the bottom of the
fifth now in that decisive third game of their wild
card series. Between those two cups of padres follow and
then tonight we'll be the Yankees and the Red Sox.
We'll continue here for twin Peaks. I have thirty five
at STASTNY on thirteen under the zone. We continue here

(01:01:31):
for twin Peaks. Tasty Craig Way, Mike hardbow All, the
Harge not only the world's strongest band, the world's most
popular band. Mark Henry always hit the band for photos
and always willing to give up his.

Speaker 5 (01:01:43):
Time, especially like when they're nice yeah and have just
a little bit of koof.

Speaker 3 (01:01:50):
Yeah, you don't have to have a lot of coop,
but just come in pat me like that. Dude just did.

Speaker 5 (01:01:54):
Oh that's that's one of two of my killing spree
just almost started.

Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
Oh yeah, that's right, you don't. I don't like being
patted like a puppy.

Speaker 5 (01:02:02):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:02:03):
Do we have a do we have a promo that
you guys are about the touch who likes to come
and hug your people, And I'm just like, quit hugging me.
Man to hug people, but you don't want anybody, no exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:02:14):
He's trying to show affection, but he don't like it
when people are affectionate to him.

Speaker 3 (01:02:19):
There's a difference.

Speaker 5 (01:02:21):
There's a difference because I'm I'm playing, actually, like because
that's my friend and I'm just playing.

Speaker 3 (01:02:29):
They don't know me, like, you'll come and slap and
sound off on my back. Come on, man, touch my chest,
you a dude. Don't touch my chest. You're like Adrian Beltrey.
Don't touch it. Don't touch my head. I'm sorry, don't
touch my head.

Speaker 5 (01:02:42):
I don't want to touch her head either, right, No,
not unless you want to come bail me out because
my wife is with my daughter.

Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
Practice that's a good point. That's a that's a good point.

Speaker 5 (01:02:53):
Trying to turn over a new leave.

Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
Well, speaking of injuries that Mark is able to inflict,
it is time for our dj C law injury update,
and so for that you need only consult the SEC
Student Athlete Availability Report. That's what they call basically, yeah, yeah,
the SEC Student Athlete Availability Report, which is you know,

(01:03:21):
uh it's it's basically the SEC's version of the injury
report there although, like I said, most of the coaches
will tell you that, uh that that what this is
is an injury report in other words, for the Longhorns
and one player on the doubtful thing at CJ Baxter,

(01:03:42):
and I think we kind of expected that. I think
I think we expected because CJ is still recovering from
the hamstring that he probably would not be available. And
that's unfortunate given uh, given the fact that uh CJ
is is, you know, a native of the area, and
you would love to see him be able to go

(01:04:02):
out there and and play in his home region. He's
from Orlando. However, Jared Gibson's healthy, He'll be going. He's
listed as down for now. The questionable ones mm Mosley,
all those Sarks said he's been able to work in
practice and they hope to be able to give him
on the field.

Speaker 3 (01:04:21):
Kobe Black a corner and and you may see.

Speaker 2 (01:04:27):
Uh On on the list, and he's on the problem list.
I get to one moment, you may see Kobe Black
see some action if he's good to go. And then
Trey Weisner has listened as questionable, but he's been able
to work more and so I think there's a good
chance we'll see trail there on the probable list. Xavier
fills to me, you have backup safety who works on
special teams. And then the other one is Malik Muhammad.

Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
I didn't even know he was injured.

Speaker 2 (01:04:49):
Uh, he's he's had a sore ankle and uh, but
he has been able to work, he has been able
to practice. He's listed as probable, and I think we'll
see him out there, and in fact, I'm certain we'll
see him out there. But it may be a situation
wherein this is where Kobbe Black cooms and they spell
him more. We could see possibly Grace and Littleton moved

(01:05:10):
from the Star outside because Grayson has shown that he
can play safety Star. They've cross trained him very well.
If they needed to move him outside. They could do
that same thing with Jordan Johnson Rebel jj R could
do either of that. And if that happens, and you
could see Michael Taff slide up from safety to star
and Derek Williams going at safety. That's the interchangeability of

(01:05:31):
the secondary of importance.

Speaker 5 (01:05:32):
It's got to be confused into a de offense coordinator.
You have an idea of what you want to do
and then they change the chess pieces.

Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
Absolutely, it can make it. Okay, let's take a look around.
He yes, he's seen the games this week. See what
you guys think about. This early game on Saturday is
Kentucky and Georgia. So the game is at Georgia and
Georgia is coming off that disappointing home loss to Alabama.

(01:06:06):
So I would imagine it's gonna be an angry Bulldog
team that takes the field that gets Kentucky absolutely.

Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
And Kentucky's not looked like the Kentucky of.

Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
Old here lately. I agree with you there.

Speaker 2 (01:06:18):
That's the early game and then kicking off the same
time as the Texas Florida game. And when they were
first announcing about ten days ago that Texas and Florida
would kick off at two thirty. They listed it as
either ABC or ESPN.

Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
It's going to be on ESPN.

Speaker 2 (01:06:41):
The other game that was listed ABC slash ESPN is
the game that's going to be on ABC.

Speaker 3 (01:06:46):
And that's drawn a.

Speaker 2 (01:06:47):
Lot of attention all of it that you wouldn't Actually
you got Vanderbilt at Alabama. It's probably taken on a
lot more intrigued for two reasons. One, Vanderbilt is ranked
sixteenth and unbeaten, and they beat Alabama last year, beat
up in Nashville, and Alabama's ranked tenth coming off that
win over Georgia.

Speaker 5 (01:07:08):
Well, that's why I picked Alabama to beat them this
year because there's very few teams, especially as Nick Saban said,
Vanderbilt that's gonna beat them two years in a row.

Speaker 3 (01:07:22):
I just can't see that happening. This is a different
Vanderbilt team though. This is the leader exactly.

Speaker 4 (01:07:28):
This is Diego Pavia, a kid who had to get
it out the mud, so to speak, had go to
a military school, then go and play at New Mexico
and then get out of there in New Mexico state,
excuse me, and then get out of there and go
to Vanderbilt and then come back and still fighting for his.

Speaker 3 (01:07:45):
Eligibility in that court case.

Speaker 4 (01:07:47):
Yeah, to get another chance at this and now that
football team led by Clark Lee. You and I got
a chance to hear Clark Lee speak at SEC media days.
He's a very impressive head football coach because he walked
those hallways at Vanderbilt. He's a player, he understands what
it's all about. And this is the first time that

(01:08:09):
a Vanderbilt team has been even in this consideration in
a very long time.

Speaker 3 (01:08:13):
So this is an impressive and a must.

Speaker 4 (01:08:16):
Win game for Vanderbilt to take them to that next level.

Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
I think I think you're spot on. That's the next
level game for them. If they win, then they show
they're at that next level. And if they win, you can.

Speaker 3 (01:08:28):
Say what they want. They're contender now, absolutely. Yeah.

Speaker 5 (01:08:31):
And there's kids that maybe wouldn't go to Vanderbilt they
might go now because Okay, yeah, they have a legit
chance to actually win in there. And I'm gonna stay
close to home.

Speaker 4 (01:08:42):
And academically it's one of the best universities in the country.

Speaker 2 (01:08:45):
Yeah, and I will give you another Yeah, we've seen
that obviously. Yeah, Yeah, we've seen that with Cedric Alexander
from LBJ being their leading ground gamer.

Speaker 3 (01:08:55):
Do they call it the Harvard of the South.

Speaker 2 (01:08:57):
Yes, it has been called the Harvard of the South,
and it is an outstanding institution of higher learning. And
I'll tell you another guy to watch. Uh he made
a mark last year. He's really making market he is.
He is now beginning to convince people this guy can
play on Sundays. And it's the tight end Eli Stowers

(01:09:17):
who was an outstanding quarterback at Detton Geyer and got
hurt very early in the game against west Lake in
the state championship game when when Kate Klubnick was playing
quarterback for Westlake he went out of the game and
a freshman in high school, a freshman named Jackson Arnold,
had to take over a quarterback and he played pretty well.

Speaker 3 (01:09:38):
But it wasn't going to be a match.

Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
Uh there for you know, for for what happened for
Westlake and what they did. They were in the middle
of their three peat. But Eli Stowers was a quarterback
and started off at A and M and now he
has developed into a really really good tight end called
a touchdown pas against Texas last year. He's a really
good tight end and he's a legitimate pro prospect at

(01:10:02):
tight end.

Speaker 5 (01:10:03):
That's pretty incredible for tight end quarterback to turn tight end.

Speaker 3 (01:10:08):
And I know it's happened.

Speaker 5 (01:10:09):
Before, but I guess if you're smart enough to recognize
coverages and see where the soft spots are, that would.

Speaker 3 (01:10:16):
Be an advantage. Yeah, he's brilliant.

Speaker 5 (01:10:18):
I guess it.

Speaker 3 (01:10:19):
Just listen to him speak, See why you'd be a
Vanderbilt guy too.

Speaker 4 (01:10:23):
And hen Diego a roommates, so they go out of
each other all the time. It's funny because you got
a chance to watch that any given Saturday where we
had an opportunity to talk to Paul Martin, the executive
producer there. He was talking about the what he got
to see with the camaraderie with all the teams, because
once you start living with people, things kind of change

(01:10:45):
for you.

Speaker 3 (01:10:45):
And that's how that has happened. Boom home run.

Speaker 2 (01:10:49):
The Troy Tigers have retaken the lead on the Cleveland
Guardians with a solo homer from Dylan Dingler.

Speaker 3 (01:10:57):
What a name for baseball?

Speaker 5 (01:10:59):
Dingo like a tight end speaking of.

Speaker 2 (01:11:02):
Uh, A Dingler with a home run to put the
Tigers back in front of the Guardians. Two to one
in that contest as they play in Cleveland, that decisive
third game of the Aldus that's in the top.

Speaker 3 (01:11:14):
Of the sixth inning.

Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
He did it with two outs to two outs and
nobody go on with a home run to put Detroit
back in front. All right, we'll be back to wrap
up our number two of four hours here at Twin
Peaks High thirty five in Stastiny. We invit you to
come on out and say hi, Tomark Henry, have your
picture made.

Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
Just don't touch him, just you.

Speaker 2 (01:11:33):
Know, you have your picture maybe, but just don't be
patting him and whacking him on the back and stuff
like that. He's a very congenial guy, you know, So
just you know, just understand the rules of engagement.

Speaker 3 (01:11:43):
That's all we're saying, Like, yeah, whatever that is. That's mean.

Speaker 2 (01:11:48):
We'll continue on Sportsman A thirteen under the Zone and
the IR Radio app. And if you have missed the
first two hours of the program, no problem, you still
got the second.

Speaker 3 (01:11:58):
Half of it to go.

Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
We got a lot to uh talk about, to hash
and rehash, and we welcome you to our program here
on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone. A special
SEC kickoff weekend for the Long Worn two are about
to play their first SEC Conference game Saturday afternoon and
that that is a two thirty kickoff and Cameron Parker

(01:12:20):
what the coverage begins at ten thirty Saturday one with
the Third and Long Worn Podcast.

Speaker 3 (01:12:23):
Guys, right it does?

Speaker 6 (01:12:25):
They get us started with their preview podcast an hour long.
By the way, they're going to be at ACL on
Sunday from two thirty to three, So if you're going
the ACL Sunday before all the music acts, listen to
the third and Longhorn game. But yeah, ten thirty to eleven
thirty Craig. Then Longhorns Game Day Live from Third Base.
It cover sorry live from Third Base in round rock

(01:12:46):
Me and my cards. Mark Henry also going to have
I believe Rod Babers from third and Longhorn on Texas Football.
Norm Walkins, Who is he still Austin's most eligible bachelor?

Speaker 3 (01:12:56):
Yes, he's a storm in arm and the Pride of
Irving High there you go, exactly right, He'll be out there.

Speaker 6 (01:13:03):
We're gonna visit with Graham Hall from two four seven
and covering the Florida Gear is gonna be gonna be
a real fun show. And then at one thirty pm
Central Time, two thirty Eastern Time. Craig Way, Roger Wallace
and well Matthews their first trip together to the swamp
and what's gonna be, I believe a swampy game.

Speaker 3 (01:13:20):
Yeah, I'm taking the taking the rain jacket.

Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
And that's something I didn't think i'd be worried that
much about in early October.

Speaker 3 (01:13:28):
But hey, it is Florida.

Speaker 5 (01:13:29):
Well why did you just pack one? Go to like
a store when you get there and get one of
those little cheap beies so you could throw it away.

Speaker 3 (01:13:36):
Packing the rain jackets mean like a poncho. Yeah, well
there's plant of range jackets. Seemed like it'd be a
little little much short trip for them.

Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
Yeah, you know if I just take a you know
I have one of a couple of his dry duck
wind breaker type jackets.

Speaker 3 (01:13:50):
Oh yeah, yeah, throw that one in there.

Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
And then if it's just getting from the parking lot
to the press box.

Speaker 3 (01:13:56):
Is what I'm really different about them back over afterwards.
So did if you been down to Gainsville, Florida.

Speaker 5 (01:14:01):
Munch Not many times? Just once? I think, Okay, we did,
like a spring break show or something.

Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
Yeah, yeah, it's uh the way I've had it described
to me. Sean Kelly, play by play voice of the
Florida Gators, was on with us yesterday and he said,
it'll be very loud, It'll be welcoming, It'll be welcoming crowd.

Speaker 3 (01:14:23):
He said.

Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
I don't think it'll he said, I don't think it'll
be like uh going to Arkansas or Beth Page Black,
you know, for I don't think it will be anything
like that, he said, But it'll be it'll get really
really loud. But you guys made a point earlier, and
I think this is important to point out because it's
a one in three start, and because the Natives are

(01:14:47):
getting restless in Gainesville and kind of grumbling about things
because of that. The the way that I've had it
described to me is this, Uh, They'll be very loud,
but the mood can change depending on how the game,
you know, goes forward, and it can get kind of

(01:15:08):
grumbly and ugly and stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (01:15:10):
If things are not going well for Florida.

Speaker 6 (01:15:12):
And start talked about it yesterday or sorry this morning,
rather start fast, right.

Speaker 3 (01:15:17):
If you start fast, it takes the crowd out of it.

Speaker 6 (01:15:20):
You made the Ryder Cup comparison I'm okay with that
because the road team won the Ryder Cup Team Europe,
and what they did so well on Friday is they
won the first couple of match, first couple of holes,
and the crowds out of it. For Texas offensively, you
score first lagway, maybe an interception upon all of a sudden,
the crowd's thinking, Man, I'm out here in the rain
for this, for watching this four straight. So that's the

(01:15:41):
key part Hearts is being able to start fast and
Mark We've talked about it on our pregame show. Texas
hasn't really started fast yet this season be huge. They
could do that on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (01:15:50):
It would be huge if they can do it. I
mean for a while, what was it like five years
they didn't score in the first drive?

Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
Yeah, I mean even four start got here.

Speaker 5 (01:16:01):
Yeah, it like it was a score in the first drive,
and you need to do that.

Speaker 3 (01:16:06):
You brought the Ryder Cup. I have to touch on this.

Speaker 5 (01:16:09):
I have to Why would the US team only go
through two rounds of practice the day before when the
rest of the Rayder Cup the Team Europe got there
four days out and they went through nine rounds.

Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
Well, I think our resident golf expert and analysts who
was already weighed in on what he thought was basically
a half ass approach to the Ryder Cup, can answer that,
Cameron Parker, we.

Speaker 6 (01:16:37):
Have two hours out of the show perfect I can
get the thing to listen.

Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
To what just said.

Speaker 6 (01:16:44):
Yeah, Europeans approached the Ryder Cup like it was the
most important thing to win, and the Americans just kind
of show up and think, hey, you know, we're Americans.
You know we have the best golf in the world.
We're playing on our home soil. It'll be a breeze.
And we've seen that in football, right, in any sport
where a team thinks they're entitled, right, you know, a titlement, right,

(01:17:08):
That's what's happening with the American side is they're very entitled.
They're all good guys, I mean, without a doubt, Scotti
Scheffler a great golfer but an even better human being.
But overall, and also they hired a captain who's playing
golf in the prime of his career too. It's it's
almost like Mark if Texas decided to hire Anthony Hill

(01:17:30):
as their coach right.

Speaker 3 (01:17:31):
Now just doesn't make any sense. But again, we think
it's off air, and I'll give you the whole run down.
We'll talk about that's merely the tip of the iceberg there.
Did I open up a.

Speaker 5 (01:17:42):
Can of words?

Speaker 3 (01:17:43):
No, no, no, no, no.

Speaker 2 (01:17:44):
What I wanted him to explain this all on Monday
and he came in and and you you basically got
the readers digest.

Speaker 5 (01:17:52):
Yeah. When I heard that, I was like, why would
they only do two rounds? Like if the if you're
a You're a team went nine, they're gonna be used
to that course better.

Speaker 6 (01:18:04):
And going to twenty twenty three when they played in Rome, right,
they decided ten years ago we're gonna play the Ryder
Cup in Rome. The US team showed up the week
before and complained for their bad performance because of jet lag.
You knew ten years ago you were gonna be playing
this Ryder Cup in Rome. Maybe show up two weeks before.
The Europeans by the way, for bethpage Black. They showed
up two weeks ago and their team captain Luke Donald said, hey,

(01:18:26):
no one can leave the Eastern time zone for the
next two weeks because we want you, we want you
acclimated to the Eastern time zone and not to worry
about jet lag. The Americans show up in Rome. Yeah,
we'll show up the week. We're fine, We're good. And
then what happened to get their butts waxed by seven points?
Wait till two thousand and twenty twenty seven in Ireland.

Speaker 3 (01:18:43):
It's gonna be you fel they get ugly, they'll get
very ugly. They only lost by two points. Yeah, but
it should have been a lot more. Anyway, it was.

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
It was long decided before it got to the end.
Let's hear something from Longbourn's head coach, Chief Sarcasian. He
was asked about we were talking about this early perimeter
blocking and how important that is to the team's level
of success.

Speaker 3 (01:19:06):
And here's sarks thoughts on that.

Speaker 8 (01:19:07):
Yeah, I think it's really important to who we are.

Speaker 7 (01:19:10):
You know, we've you know, one of the one of
you always do that good, bad and ugly on Monday.
And you know, one of those twenty five or so
plays that I showed to the team Monday was a
perimeter block by Ryan Wingo and DeAndre Moore to spring
Dayla McCutcheon for about an eighteen twenty yard gain on
a bubble screen. And that that's important because if we

(01:19:33):
don't create some of those types of plays on the perimeter,
then the box and the run game, it just gets
harder and harder and harder. So to be able to
expand those things horizontally is important. It also allows some
things vertically because you know, if dbs feel like they
have to press up to go play our our perimeter

(01:19:54):
screen game, now, it gives you a few more opportunities
to try to get behind them down the field. But
if you're not effective blocking out there, that doesn't make
a defensive coordinator feel the need to deploy more people
to the edge. That doesn't make players on the field
feel so urgent to have to go try to defeat
the blocks. And so we've we spent a lot of

(01:20:14):
time and effort throughout the bye week of working on that,
and we have we have the people that are more
than capable to doing that. It's just recognizing the blocks
and then trusting their techniques and then at the end
of the day letting go is I think one thing
that can hurt you on the perimeter is we wanted
to block so well, then they grab a shoulder pad
and then you get a holding penalty and it's unnecessary.

(01:20:36):
So I think we've worked really hard at that. That
was something that we tried to you know, kind of
harp on throughout the bye week and hopefully we see
the benefits of it here in the in the near future.

Speaker 2 (01:20:47):
Yeah, it's important to say something that we talk about
the fact that they can do it. It's it's There
are similar corollaries. For example, you hear defensive coaches talking
about getting sacks, are getting pretre on the quarterback, and
the phrase they like to use is pressure from four,
not have to blitz by design, not by necessity. Same

(01:21:09):
thing on the offensive side here, being able to block
without being penalized, be able to be effective in blocking
on the perimeter, but to be able to disengage in
times so you're not having a flag.

Speaker 3 (01:21:23):
Thrown on you.

Speaker 4 (01:21:24):
You know, if the ball's coming in your directions, what
is going on?

Speaker 5 (01:21:28):
Correct?

Speaker 4 (01:21:28):
Like, so, if they run a sprint sprint out in
your side and you hear the crowd roaring, that means
you might need to let go because it's getting close
to you or it's already passed you, and you've got
to understand. You got to have that kind of feel
for the ball game. And again, if somebody's trying to
turn their shoulders. You also need to make sure that
you let them go as well, because that's going to

(01:21:49):
look like holding with your hand placement as well.

Speaker 6 (01:21:51):
And outside blocking is such an important part of Stark's
offensive scheme, right we see it for the receiver blocking
it's such about be able to catch the ball and
make a play that way. It's also about being able
to maintain your blocks right. And for arch Manning in
this offense, you know, for instance, if they come out
struggling a little bit, Sark may want to throw the
ball behind the line of scrimmage a little bit more.

(01:22:12):
And for that to be successful, Mark, you know, brother
than anyone, you got to be able to block right.
And that starts with DeAndre Moore, who missed a couple
of games games. His blocking outside is incredible. He reminds
me of Jordan Wadington the way he's able to steal
outside blocks. That leads you know that if you can
block like that, hit the ball of Ryan Wingo. He
follows behind DeAndre Moore or Parker Livingston, that can create

(01:22:34):
big plays exactly what arch Mann he might need for
his confidence or just get the offense going.

Speaker 3 (01:22:38):
In general, he.

Speaker 5 (01:22:39):
Turns guys inside more than anybody I've seen block at Texas,
probably since beck Or, which was one of my favorite
blockers that time. You don't want to defensively, You don't
want to ever give up the outside shoulder to the sideline.
You want to keep everything inside more can turn them

(01:23:02):
guys man like, I really love his game. You get
him and Mosley out there, it's man, the running game
is gonna pick up.

Speaker 3 (01:23:11):
Yeah. And he's a veteran and he leads.

Speaker 2 (01:23:15):
He can talk, He can talk a lot and lead
by words, but he is also a guy who leads
by example, and a lot of leaders these days are
more predisposed to leading by example and less by words.

Speaker 3 (01:23:28):
He does both. Yeah, and that's what it's all about. Yeah.
You gotta be able to lead and find a way
to get it done.

Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
Updates from Cleveland. The Tigers have broken in open now
They've scored three runs Paris with a two run single,
then Spencer Torkosen just line one in the left field
to drive in a third run in the inning, and
the Tigers now lead the Guardians five to one, and
they're still batting in the top half of the seventh inning.

Speaker 3 (01:23:50):
Winner of that game.

Speaker 2 (01:23:51):
We'll move on to the Division Series to meet the
Seat Mariners in Seattle.

Speaker 5 (01:23:56):
Is there a better celebration in all of sports? And
to come to your sideline, dugout courtside and your teammates
throws sunflower seeds in.

Speaker 3 (01:24:09):
There right in your face. Oh man, I love that.
It's a big thing on that.

Speaker 2 (01:24:15):
Probably the only thing that's better amongst teammates is what
the Tigers are closing in on what the Dodgers did
last night. That's the champagne in the clubhouse. Yeah, speaking
of stuff in your eyes, they can kind of burn
a little bit. That's why the ever present goggles are
around for a lot of the goes. All right, coming up,
we'll hear more from Longhorne's head coach, Steve Sarkisian. We's

(01:24:36):
talking a little NFL too. We haven't done that yet.
We need to do that, and glad to have you
with us. Detroit now up six to one as they've
had another run, still batting with one out in the
top of the seventh, so starting to pull away from
Cleveland and perhaps headed for the division series matchup with
Seattle later today. Cubs and Padres. Tonight it'll be Red
Sox and Yankees. We're at Twin Peaks, I thirty five

(01:24:59):
and st We'll continue on Sports Radio AM thirteen under
the Zone and the iHeartRadio app. We continue from Twin
Peaks here I thirty five in Stasting.

Speaker 3 (01:25:09):
Were with you up until six o'clock.

Speaker 2 (01:25:11):
Craig Way, Mike Hardball, Hars, Mark Henry, and Cameron Parker
here outside combined and say hi, as many have come,
have your picture made with Mark Henry as many have.
Certainly you're more than welcome to do that. NFL this weekend.
How are we feeling about the Cowboys?

Speaker 4 (01:25:30):
I'm actually good.

Speaker 3 (01:25:34):
I've seen in years and years it really does suck.

Speaker 2 (01:25:39):
How about Jerry Jones comment the other day that he
thought the defense got better in the second half.

Speaker 4 (01:25:45):
Yeah, because they just stopped him from scoring forty five.
But you know, you started looking at it. I looked
at it like this. What we've seen from Dak is
something that we've already thought we would always see from him.
He's very consistent at the quarterback position, so consistent that
his numbers are almost identical to Tony Romo's and all

(01:26:06):
you Romo fans that just love Tony Romo, he and
Dak Prescott have almost the exact same wins and losses
and all the things that are involved with thatals.

Speaker 2 (01:26:18):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:26:18):
The other part of it is I think about the defense,
and you're right, it is the absolute worst in the league.

Speaker 3 (01:26:25):
So what does that tell you? It could only get better.

Speaker 4 (01:26:28):
It's only up from here, and it starts this weekend
against the New York Jets. The Jets are the only
team that really scare me because their quarterback. He's not
very good and you never know what you're gonna get
from him, but he may have a big player too
with his legs. And of course Garrett Wilson is always
a scary guy.

Speaker 2 (01:26:46):
Yeah. I could just see him blowing the doors off
Trayvon Diggs right and then again.

Speaker 5 (01:26:51):
Correct and in horrible as they tackle and them the
pursuit angles that they take, he'll cut it back and he.

Speaker 3 (01:27:03):
May go for fifty on them.

Speaker 6 (01:27:05):
Yeah, yeah, I'm shook that hard things the Cowboys defense
can stop a team. I mean, Russell Wilson was almost
inducted into the New York Giants Hall of Fame two
weeks ago. A week later, he gets benched and the
fans are booing him. You mentioned that Tony Rumbles comparisons
to Dak Prescott just like Tony Romo.

Speaker 3 (01:27:23):
He has the same defense that Tony NFL playing career.

Speaker 6 (01:27:28):
So unfortunately we're seeing Jerry Jones waste the prime of
Dak Prescott and he does not get enough credit. I
mean what Dak has been able to do. I mean,
he's the best quarterback in the NFL statistically so far
this season. But also remember two years ago his season
was cut short with there's a terrible lower body injury.
I mean, we didn't know if Dak would return to

(01:27:50):
be the quarterback he was at the time. He's come
back and he's gotten better. And I'll give Jerry credit
for this. The George Pickens trade was great. Pickens has
been phenomenal offensively, but defensively, right, they don't have the
guys that Matt Eberflus wants to run his system. And
that could be on Eberflus two for being so boneheaded

(01:28:10):
and running so much sown defense when clearly guys like
Travon Dicks just don't fit in that defensive system. And
you know, hopefully, I mean we're looking at possibly the
Marvin overshown for a long warred legend returning. I believe
at some point this season the Cowboys seed them because
the linebacking corps looks lost out there, looks absolutely lost.

Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
Five two.

Speaker 5 (01:28:34):
I don't even know their names, that's how that's how
bad they are. And they play so high. They don't
tackle with their legs and back they reach with their arms.
By then the guy's already gone and you have no leverage.
You have no leverage high by who's teaching them how.

Speaker 3 (01:28:53):
To tackle well?

Speaker 2 (01:28:54):
And being out of position year, being out of position
in the first place, shut down him. Okay, fill in
the blank here. The best team in the NFL right
now is.

Speaker 5 (01:29:04):
Even though they tied, I still would go with Green Bay.

Speaker 3 (01:29:08):
It's the best team in the NFL.

Speaker 5 (01:29:10):
I love that defense, and they look horrible against the Cowboys.
But I think that was a byproduct of the fact
that Dak Prescott had put on this superman Kate and
Hart said that to me, like during the preseason, he said, Man,
Dak gonna have a good year this year. He always
has a great year when he comes off of an

(01:29:31):
injury because he's so prepared and and heart was one right,
He's having a career year for himself.

Speaker 2 (01:29:39):
Yeah, you know what kind of worries me about Green Bay?
Is you know, their their defense looked like world beaters
first couple of weeks, and then against Cleveland, who's kind
of a rudderless ship right now, and then the Cowboys
the last two weeks.

Speaker 3 (01:29:54):
It's been difficult for them.

Speaker 5 (01:29:56):
Yeah, I don't know what the deal is these last
two weeks, but.

Speaker 3 (01:30:01):
They just are really balanced team.

Speaker 5 (01:30:03):
Maybe they're not the best team, they're the most balanced
team offensively defensively. But the Eagles would be my second
team and they may be one A one B.

Speaker 3 (01:30:16):
Buffalo Bills.

Speaker 4 (01:30:17):
The Buffalo Bills to me, are the better football team
all the way around.

Speaker 3 (01:30:21):
They have the MVP and Josh Allen.

Speaker 4 (01:30:23):
He seems to be getting better and better each week,
and he's got a better understanding of his team. And
let's not forget James Cook signing that contract and being
able to be the running back that he is for
this team. It offsets enough for Josh Allen where he
doesn't have to run near as much because of the
ability of Cook.

Speaker 6 (01:30:42):
Yeah, right with harje I think the Bills possibly are.
They're at least my favorite in the AFC right now.
Eagles too. Still mind blown that Philadelphia did not complete
a pass in the second half crag and still won
that game. I mean in twenty twenty five, if you
told any of us, hey, a team will not complete

(01:31:02):
the past second half, how much would they lose? By
credit to what Philadelphi has been able to do with
their offense with Jillen Hurts with Saquan aj Brown had
what two receptions? So port went out for those who
have been fantasy football but Eagles and Billson, let me
ask you this, guys, did last week change your opinion
of the Kansas City Chiefs or the Chiefs back?

Speaker 3 (01:31:22):
Because they look pretty good. They looked pretty good in
that win. I think they look pretty good.

Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
That also kind of leads into the question, was gonna
have for everybody else, who's the most disappointing team in
the NFL? And I think we'd all have to greet
the Ravens.

Speaker 5 (01:31:34):
Right now, correct, most definitely.

Speaker 3 (01:31:36):
And Kansas City made them look bad.

Speaker 5 (01:31:39):
Andy Reid designed that offense around having one guy that
can pull the top off of the defense and where
you have to have two guys for one and now
you're playing ten on eleven and it Kelsey looked like
the years rolled back in his life.

Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
Yeah, because he.

Speaker 5 (01:32:00):
Was playing against linebackers rather than safeties. Yeah, and putting
the guy out into the flats made the linebacker and
outside linebackers stay home, so the middle of the field.
Patrick Mahons ran whenever he wanted to. He threw to
Kelsey again because guys were going with Xavier Worth and
he still.

Speaker 3 (01:32:17):
Was torching him. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (01:32:19):
I think the issue with Baltimore is they might be
the Year from Hell team. I think looking at yesterday,
eleven starters on the injury report, over half of them
on defense. Lamar Jackson probably not going to play this week.
Cooper Rush, Cooper Rush somehow in the NFL still is
going to start.

Speaker 3 (01:32:36):
They're looking at one in four. That's the team.

Speaker 5 (01:32:39):
You know.

Speaker 6 (01:32:39):
I think always before the end, before the season starts,
it's always that one team that will miss the playoffs,
you know, because of the Year from Hell.

Speaker 3 (01:32:45):
You know, I thought maybe it would be Cincinnati.

Speaker 6 (01:32:48):
They had that last year, last year, right this year,
maybe maybe they're just a terrible fact.

Speaker 5 (01:32:54):
Disagree with what you can because Cooper Rush is always
good for giving you too wins if you coming up,
if he's him coming off the bench. He did it
in Dallas, he did it last year when he came
in for one game and he won that game.

Speaker 6 (01:33:10):
He did, but Baltimore has so many injuries defensively that
I don't know if he's good enough to overcome that.
The thing about what made Cooper Rush so successful in
Dallas was Kellen Moore. Kellen Moore had a great up
at the system. He knew the straints and weaknesses of
Cooper Rush and offense around that where he was able
to win Baltimore. Shoot, I mean, don't I think Tom
Brady could be quarterback. But if you're missing half your

(01:33:32):
defense out there and you play against guys like Patrick
Mahomes or Josh Allen, the smart ocs are going to
explode that Now, Baltimore, Craig, I think obviously it's most
disappointing team because after that Week one game against Kansas
City or No Buffalo, I thought, Okay, they lost, but
Baltimore might be the second best team in the league.
Now it's like, are they even gonna make the playoffs
with all these injuries?

Speaker 3 (01:33:52):
Yeah, because they're getting tredded.

Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
Do it.

Speaker 5 (01:33:53):
Don't look like they're gonna win their conference because they're
so far behind now they'd have to go and the
eight in a row and hope other people lose.

Speaker 3 (01:34:01):
Yeah, yeah, so it's uh that that's a problem there.

Speaker 6 (01:34:05):
Now, Craig, you said most appointing. What about most surprising?
Is it the Seattle Superhannics, super super Tonics, Super Seahawks,
super super Seahawks. Yeah, the super great teams out here,
Seattle Seahawks, or that's most surprising team in the league.

Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
I think a lot of people thought that they were
gonna be Okay. I think the most surprising team in
the league right now is jackson.

Speaker 3 (01:34:26):
D three and one.

Speaker 2 (01:34:30):
Square. I think it's the Jags who got the win.
And I know the forty nine ers are banged up
and they got banged up during that game, but Jacksonville
did what it had to do, uh to get the win.
Now we're going to find out a little bit more
about the Jags when they play the Chiefs right this week.
We're certainly gonna find that out.

Speaker 4 (01:34:51):
But I say Minnesota, I could say Minnesota my only rest.
I think Minnesota was a team that we thought was
gonna be better. They let Kurt Kirk Cousins, they let
Sam Darnold leave. Then you get JJ McCarthy. You don't understand,
he doesn't understand what's going on, so he's like, my
ankle hurts, and they're like, good, you need to stay
out because now we're gonna give Carson Wentz this opportunity

(01:35:13):
to be there. But you're you're still looking at a
team that does not know where they are headed.

Speaker 3 (01:35:18):
Well, yeah, because they're lost in Europe. Now, yeah for
another game.

Speaker 2 (01:35:22):
They got beaten Ireland and now and now they're wandering
around the United Kingdom getting ready to play this week.

Speaker 3 (01:35:28):
But they stayed in the same time zone. Cam.

Speaker 4 (01:35:30):
Yeah, they stayed in the same time zone. They didn't
come back smart.

Speaker 6 (01:35:34):
My only rebot of the Jacksonville thing is the quarterbacks
they faced so far this year, guys Mac Jones, Bryce Young,
Joe Burrow who got hurt, and then Jake Brownie came
and actually won that game somehow, and then CJ.

Speaker 3 (01:35:45):
Stroud.

Speaker 6 (01:35:46):
I think Jacksonville, I think Liam Cones are a really
good head coach, and you know they've made the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:35:51):
Before with with Trevor Lawrence.

Speaker 6 (01:35:52):
It's just can you get that consistency out of Tea
law And I still offensively, I'm not absolutely sold on Jacksonville,
but they have a winning record, so.

Speaker 2 (01:36:01):
Maybe maybe the answer is another team in their division,
the Coles. Yeah, they've barely lost to the Rams and
in fact could have won the game, if not should
have one. They certainly had an opportunity. They didn't win
that game. They've had to readjust on the flight of quarterback.
And and Indiana Jones is now playing pretty well.

Speaker 3 (01:36:20):
For them, so you know.

Speaker 2 (01:36:22):
And they got Taylor so they can run the ball obviously,
and they played a little.

Speaker 5 (01:36:27):
They changed his name from Danny Dimes to Danny Diamond.

Speaker 3 (01:36:31):
He's Indiana Jones now they say, ye.

Speaker 4 (01:36:34):
Say people dressing up at the game. I think it
was in La.

Speaker 2 (01:36:36):
Yeah, Fort Dora, Yeah, yeah, Indiana Jones since he's now
in Indianapolis. Absolutely, it's all about the merch. We know that,
all right. We've got more coming up. Will continue here
from Twin Peaks I thirty five in Stasty Lane here
on Sports Media AM thirteen hundred zon in the iHeartRadio app.
We continue here from Twin Pigs I thirty five at

(01:36:57):
Stastey Where with you up until six o'clock, So you're
a little over an hour and just under an hour
and a half, so it's still time for you to
come on down, say hi, and also have some great food.
And beverage. Here at Twin Peaks, Detroit leading Cleveland sixty
to one. It's in the bottom of the eighth inning
of that decisive third game. They're underway wrigley Field, Cubs

(01:37:18):
and Padres, and they're in the bottom of the second inning.
No score in that one. Again, these are all third
and decisive games.

Speaker 3 (01:37:27):
The go's on.

Speaker 2 (01:37:31):
Dodgers swept Cincinnati finished off to speet last night, so
they will open on Saturday in Philadelphia in the division
series and these other wildcard series Detroit Cleveland, the winner
will go to Seattle to start off that division series
against the Mariners that this weekend. And right now it's
six' to, One tigers lead The. Guardians that's in the

(01:37:53):
bottom of the eighth And ups And padres are scoreless
right Now Wrigley, field and that is in the bottom
of the. Second let's hear some more From logorns head
Coach Steve, Sarkisian and we've talked about it quite a,
bit the fact that it could be. Rainy the surface
at Ben Hill Griffin, stadium the swamp can get swampy

(01:38:14):
because it is a natural grass surface. There so sark
was asking how comfortable is he as a play caller
in what could be a, rainy muddy game at The, Swamp.

Speaker 7 (01:38:26):
I'd say this about our, team and it's been something
THAT i feel like we've evolved. INTO i think we're very,
versatile AND i think that probably started about two years
ago where we felt like we could win games a
variety of.

Speaker 8 (01:38:40):
Ways and you, know early, ON.

Speaker 7 (01:38:43):
I didn't know if we could that we had all
the facets of a. Team one to have all three
phases working together, offense, defense special. Teams two if it
was a low scoring, game to play defense and run the.
Ball three to have enough explosive playmakers on offense if
it was a high scoring game where you needed to outscore.

(01:39:04):
Somebody and so that to, me that that we've created
a very versatile team where we feel like we can
go in whatever direction is needed to try to win the.

Speaker 8 (01:39:14):
Game AND i think that that's something that.

Speaker 7 (01:39:19):
You, know sometimes you have to learn a little bit
when you start to get into the playoffs and you
start getting against when the really good teams start button,
heads and if the if the really good defenses are
playing like really good, defenses you, know are you comfortable
winning a, game a one score game that's got a
little bit maybe more of AN nfl feel to, it
that's gonna come down to one, possession AND i think
that's something that we've worked hard on and putting our

(01:39:40):
players in very stressful. Situations it's something we actually worked
on at the end of practice today of what that
would feel like and making sure on both sides of the. Ball,
uh we were equipped to handle a situation like that
if it came, up and so we spent a lot
of time on. It we think we've built a team
that can handle, that and if that's what this game calls,
for you, know we'll be ready to do that as.

Speaker 2 (01:40:02):
Well all, Right, uh you, know talking about weather conditions
and and how they can impact this game On. Saturday
and then let's hear another one From. Sark this, one
uh is about a younger. Quarterback and we're talking about young. Quarterbacks.
Uh both of these, guys, uh you, know really getting

(01:40:25):
their feet wet as starting, quarterbacks both coming in highly,
heralded HERALDED Dj lagway From florida and obviously arch manning For,
texas And sarks, asked, you do you have to change
up or simplify your playbook with a younger?

Speaker 7 (01:40:41):
QUARTERBACK i feel like you're trying to tell me to do,
that but that's, Okay i'll answer.

Speaker 3 (01:40:45):
It.

Speaker 7 (01:40:46):
Okay so, anyway what we actually try to do is
implement schemes and then as the season goes, on find
multiple ways to continue to run the same schemes out
of different personal, groupings, formations, motions, shifts so on and so.
Forth we really don't make up new plays once the

(01:41:06):
season starts, going we find more creative ways to run
the same.

Speaker 8 (01:41:10):
Plays and so WHEN i talked about.

Speaker 7 (01:41:11):
Early in the week about laying a, foundation that's really
what we did throughout training camp and through the first
four weeks of the. Season we had to make sure
we laid that solid foundation for some of these guys
that were new to our system or new to, playing
so that we could expand on that and find more
creative ways to do the things that we are doing.

(01:41:33):
Well and that was the other part of the first four,
games was to identify what do we do well all,
right and then how do we emphasize those things and
get and continue to do more of, That but also
what aren't we doing well that we know we're going
to need to do That that was something we could
work on in training camp because we know we're going
to need it throughout this. Season so to your, point,
YEAH i think you just don't show up In week

(01:41:54):
one and you run all these you, know a bunch
of crazy plays and you, know nineteen different. Formations it's more, About,
okay we got to lay a solid foundation so that
we can build upon it as the season.

Speaker 2 (01:42:05):
Goes all, right your thoughts about that about it is
she continued the development of a young.

Speaker 4 (01:42:11):
Quarterback, well and he's talking about the plays that they're
gonna run and how they're gonna run those and how
they expand off of. It that's a great way of
keeping it simple for our young. Quarterback, yes we're gonna
have different variations of a play call that we had
earlier in the. Season instead of the guy running and,
out he's gonna run a crossing. Route, now then you're
gonna have a guy go around the corner to be

(01:42:33):
able to do that and do the same. Thing so
there's so many different things that will help a young
quarterback keep his wits about him and not try to
overload him with so much.

Speaker 5 (01:42:43):
INFORMATION i like the fact that he's not adding stuff
just because he saw a cool. Play LIKE i saw
the last.

Speaker 3 (01:42:50):
Week, now he may do that Because i've seen him do.

Speaker 4 (01:42:53):
It he did it in that touchdown early in the
game Where Jack andrews was coming across and any sight
it up that same play was running the game That thursday.

Speaker 3 (01:43:03):
BEFORE i saw him draw it. Up but it might
have been in his.

Speaker 2 (01:43:06):
Repertoire, well, YEAH i started to say that play has
been in the. System they, Will they are practicing those
plays and you'll Hear sark say this coming. Up it's
not like in some of the questions that he gets
Are i'm not blaming the media for. Them they feel
like they got. It need to answer to quick ask
the question to get an. Answer but some of the
questions are almost like do you just have a whole

(01:43:28):
different set of plays for this quarterback or these weather
conditions or this or? That and he pretty much says
the system is the. System they have the install when
they go in the, spring and then the install gets
in there and they work to get better at. It
but they're not dumping things out and, Saying, okay let's
open up the file and get this is for a

(01:43:50):
young quarterback and this is the weather conditions and pull that.
Out it's not like they're installing brand new offensive systems
on a week by week.

Speaker 3 (01:43:57):
Basis, okay the offensive system is what it is.

Speaker 2 (01:44:00):
Now there are plays off of, it but it all
still centers around that same.

Speaker 3 (01:44:06):
System. Okay.

Speaker 2 (01:44:07):
Yeah AND i think the other thing that's important to
keep in mind about that is that they understand that
you do make adjustments as the game goes. On it's
also not something that you just walk in and, say
we're handcuffed to this. Thing there are adjustments that you
make on the. Fly the one other or two other

(01:44:29):
games that it can get to last hour that INVOLVE sec.
Schools one, WELL i did mention one so That oklahoma's
Playing Kent, state which might be the Worst division ONE
fps program in the. Country the other one Is Mississippi
state And TEXAS a AND. M And Mississippi state showed
something with that, battle Taking tennessee down to the wire
on that before ultimately. Losing The aggies did what they

(01:44:51):
had to, do especially defensively where they were impressive enough
Against AUBURN i wouldn't say exactly lighting it up offensively
in a sixteen to.

Speaker 3 (01:44:59):
Ten they did what they had to do to get
the win.

Speaker 5 (01:45:02):
That this, morning on the morning, kickoffs AND i, mean
if you want to HEAR, us you can pull in
and listen to us from seven to nine am every. Morning,
Craig i'm excited about that matchup because, ONE i get
to see both teams That texas is gonna play. True,
SECONDLY i Think Mississippi state tripped last week because they

(01:45:24):
were too high on themselves and they're not used to
having victories like, that so they tend to they folded
the tent and went. HOME i think their coaches sufficiently
kicked them in the rear this, week and they're gonna
come out there against The aggies and it's gonna be
a different.

Speaker 2 (01:45:41):
Game, Okay, Yeah well it's gonna be interesting to see
how how that goes with.

Speaker 3 (01:45:48):
It and The aggies up the number six in the, polls.

Speaker 4 (01:45:50):
That's, impressive and that was one of those teams that
you're so used to them sitting at eight and four
at the end of the, season so you're, Like.

Speaker 3 (01:45:58):
Okay The aggie's that's. Cute ago got.

Speaker 4 (01:46:01):
All the way up to, six but then it normally falls,
out the bottom falls. Out BUT i don't think that's
going to happen this. Year they're a different football. Team
they've got a lot of playmakers That casey Conception on
is one of those players that every TIME i watch,
them he's making a contested catch and a big play
in a situation that they. Need and of course that

(01:46:21):
quarterback has shown that he wants to be a guy
and he definitely is showing.

Speaker 2 (01:46:25):
That there's another big football game college football game in
the state this, Weekend Texas tech And, houston both of
whom are, unbeaten And tech of course now has kind
of emerged as the favorite in The big.

Speaker 4 (01:46:36):
Twelve, yeah they're a team that you see all the
money that was spent during the offseason and you expected
him to come out and play good.

Speaker 3 (01:46:44):
Football but to play at the level that.

Speaker 4 (01:46:46):
They've been able to play at this early is something
that a lot of folks can continued to look at
and try to understand exactly how good they can.

Speaker 2 (01:46:56):
Be by the, way feel free to explain your guttle.
Response sorry about. THAT i broke character that they hit
and THEN i.

Speaker 4 (01:47:04):
Did there was a ground ball hit to first base
and The Detroit tigers In Cleveland guardians game where the
first Baseman torqulsen backhanded it routine play makes the throw
to the pitcher on his way to first.

Speaker 3 (01:47:16):
BASE PfP is what we.

Speaker 4 (01:47:18):
Called, it, Yep and he got hit in the face
with the, baseball because in the face with the baseball
covering first, base nice easy throw ball right into the.

Speaker 2 (01:47:29):
Face inning should have been over, instead two runs, scored
and now it's a six to three ball. Game in
the bottom of The, meanwhile In, chicago The cubs have
taken a two to nothing lead on the pot. Race
they've already Chased Hugh darvish from the ball, game and
they have won out, now but the bases are, loaded
Leading San diego two to nothing as they bat in

(01:47:50):
the bottom half of the second.

Speaker 5 (01:47:52):
Inning SO i thought they were already going To, galveston
but not so.

Speaker 2 (01:47:56):
Fast, yeah, yeah they're About they called him safe at second.

Speaker 3 (01:47:59):
Base just now there he's.

Speaker 5 (01:48:00):
Out.

Speaker 2 (01:48:01):
Yeah now the question is did it cost them a?
Run did the second run of the inning? Score but that?
Okay so both runs, scored but the inning's. Over and
so they've completed eight innings In Cleveland detroit leading The
guardians six to, three as they'll go to the ninth
inning in that, one and again it's two Nothing chicago

(01:48:24):
Leading San diego At Wrigley field In chicago right, now
and it's in the bottom of the Second.

Speaker 5 (01:48:29):
Craig that that gives everybody at home a reason to want.
It whenever you see a live remote that's about thirteen
hundred to. One you need to come out and Watch
Mike harde watch.

Speaker 3 (01:48:40):

Speaker 5 (01:48:42):

asparagus or Green.

Speaker 3 (01:49:56):

Speaker 6 (01:49:57):

Speaker 5 (01:50:37):
Unbelieved the barbecue guy came over and presenting hard enough
with miss that.

Speaker 3 (01:50:44):
One it was a really good.

Speaker 4 (01:50:46):
One it's the same people as the relative of the
folks From Juicy loocy.

Speaker 2 (01:50:49):
And we And roger AND i asked them during our
segment how many? Ribs and he said one? Rib AND
i said how much for?

Speaker 4 (01:50:54):
One how?

Speaker 3 (01:50:56):
Much how much for? One AND i don't need a?
DRINK i don't need. There it is updating The Baseball playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:51:05):
Scoreboard there are two spots available for the Division. Series
The Detroit tigers just finished off The Cleveland. Guardians uh
and uh they won Sixth. Street what a, weird wacky
year it's been so far for The. Tigers for the
better part of three fourths of the, season they were
the best team in, baseball are the best, record and
then kind of like The New York, mets who had

(01:51:26):
the best record in The National, league they went into collapse.
Mode The, mets of, course finished up with a complete.
Collapse The tigers were able to slide in because of
The astros collapse at the end that cost them a
chance not only to win the division but even again
as a. Wildcard so they go in as a wildcard
and they take two out of three From. Cleveland so
now it's on The seattle where they will play The

(01:51:47):
mariners in the division. Series the other side of That
American league bracket will be decided tonight when The Red
sox and The yankees play their decisive third game In New,
york and the winner of that will then go To
toronto to take on The Blue.

Speaker 5 (01:52:01):
Jo how do you think that they're fare against the
rest of the teams in the? League which one in
The National?

Speaker 2 (01:52:08):
League, well you, KNOW i think that The American league
does have. TALENT i think the power nexus is in
The National league between The brewers The. Phillies The dodgers
kind of got in their legs again because of their starting.
Pitching BUT i still think The brewers and The phillies
are the teams to. Beat they're the one in two.
Seeds The brewers would get the winner of the game

(01:52:29):
going on right now At Ripley, field they're in the
bottom of the.

Speaker 3 (01:52:32):
Third The cubs lead The podres two to.

Speaker 2 (01:52:34):
Nothing mike Hardball heart, said this was You darvus's chance
for revenge and he spit the.

Speaker 4 (01:52:40):
Bit, yeah he failed, miserably which is why they're down to.
Nothing and they made the chance the change to get
him out of, there and now they are up two to.

Speaker 2 (01:52:50):
Nothing, yeah at least The padres were able to stabilize
things after.

Speaker 6 (01:52:54):
That so see you, guys this as A Texas rangers,
fan obviously You darvish was Signed John, DANIELS i have
A U Darbus jersey at. Home has he won a
playoff game as a? Starter has he ever won a
game like he did for The? Dodgers so he's what
won in?

Speaker 3 (01:53:11):
Sixteen he Lost game seven of The World series that.

Speaker 2 (01:53:16):
Year but, yeah, so uh so there's. That so, Again
uh that's going? On, Uh yankees And Red sox, Tonight
cubs And podres right now playing In chicago with The
cubs on top Of San diego by a two to nothing.
Count and that's in the bottom half of the thirty.
Inning all, right let's hear some more From longhorn's head
Coach Steve. Sarkisian we didn't see Will stone on the

(01:53:40):
kickoffs and and uh for The Sam houston. Game and
sark had mentioned that his back had bedn't bothering in
the last two games in, fact so he was, asked
is he expecting Will stone back on? Kickoffs and this
is a pretty unique response because this gets in the
science of things that a lot of folks don't think
about much on special teams angles right angle, hashmark left

(01:54:02):
angle hash bark kickoff. Coverage listen To sark's response about Will.

Speaker 7 (01:54:05):
Stone we do anticipate Having will. BACK i, THOUGHT i
Thought mason did a really nice. Job we didn't really adjust,
anything you, KNOW i think you, know Obviously will's a
left footed, kicker and so we kicked the ball with
a left footed kicker off of our right. Hash from
a from a coverage, perspective When mason came, in we
were prepared to shift it to the left, hash which

(01:54:27):
is probably the more traditional, way But mason was plenty
comfortable leaving the ball on the right, hash so we
didn't have to adjust anything from a coverage. Perspective you,
Know mason just did a good job kicking it into
the corner and our our guest covered.

Speaker 8 (01:54:40):
Well so With will.

Speaker 7 (01:54:41):
Coming, back we don't really have to change coverage, wise
it's going to be remained pretty consistent for.

Speaker 2 (01:54:45):
Us i'm sure you think about those things all the.
Time right, hash left hash on, kickoffs right, mark.

Speaker 5 (01:54:54):
You want to get to the middle of the, field,
yeah making it really, easy but if you're a, kicker
more comfortable and he's a left hand, kicker then, yeah
you want him on the left hash but he wants.

Speaker 2 (01:55:07):
It on the right What Will stone does and it
suits him. Well And Mason shipley's fine with it being
on the right and he's a right footed, kicker and so,
yeah that's a little Weird and that's why should we
didn't have to change. Anything everything went really.

Speaker 3 (01:55:20):
Well that.

Speaker 2 (01:55:21):
Part let me tell, you the specialist PART i think
has been really really.

Speaker 3 (01:55:25):
GOOD i agree for.

Speaker 2 (01:55:26):
This long warn team say what you will about you,
know the offense still trying to find its footing and
arts and all that kind of. Stuff, kickoffs field goals
and puney have all been really really. Good the only
thing they're trying to get a little more geared up is.
Better but it did get better at The Sam houston.
Game Ryan niblett had had a big, Return so they're
trying to ramp that up even a little bit.

Speaker 4 (01:55:48):
More, yeah and that's something that Does texas. Team and
we've talked about it for the last couple of. Seasons
they haven't been themselves when it comes to that special
teams part of.

Speaker 3 (01:55:57):
It we talked about Coach banks when he out.

Speaker 4 (01:56:00):
Here we got a chance to see a bunch of block,
kigs block, punts and it was the momentum changer in
that first.

Speaker 3 (01:56:05):
Season, well now it's kind of slowed.

Speaker 4 (01:56:08):
Up and we can attest some of that To Quelan
robinson not being there as.

Speaker 3 (01:56:12):
Well but now you've got to go find another guy
that can make those types of.

Speaker 4 (01:56:15):
Adjustments And michael taff almost got there early in the,
season he just missed.

Speaker 3 (01:56:21):
It but now you.

Speaker 4 (01:56:22):
Got to see exactly what they're gonna be able to,
do because if this's gonna, happen it needs to start
happening now and pretty.

Speaker 3 (01:56:27):
Routinely, yeah no doubt about.

Speaker 2 (01:56:29):
It.

Speaker 3 (01:56:29):
All, right here's another thing from.

Speaker 2 (01:56:31):
Start this was the question we were talking about earlier
when at the top of the program we Mentioned texas
is the ONLY sec team not to have played a
conference game, yet, right so it was front loaded with
the non conference, games and by the, way going forward
in the future is going to be that way with
nine conference games they're gonna play there three. Early, YEAH
i think all most every. Year and you know it's

(01:56:54):
different than Say, florida which Has Florida state at the
end of the. Year South carolina Has, Clemson kentucky Has,
louisville so you have those games that are that are
on the back end of. It texas doesn't have. That
their rival games are conference. Games R a and M
arkansas was hopelom in the middle of the, season but
sark was, asked is being the LAST sec team to
play a conference?

Speaker 3 (01:57:14):
Game is it any kind of an?

Speaker 7 (01:57:16):
ADVANTAGE i haven't really thought about, it you, KNOW i
just this was our, schedule all. Right how are we
gonna you, know utilize our schedule to the best of our,
advantage to to get our players prepared to? Play you,
KNOW i know a lot of schools, have you, know
the kind of later in the, season non conference. Games
we just aren't structured that, way AND i don't know

(01:57:38):
if we ever will. Be SO i haven't really put
too much thought into. It is it an advantage or? Not,
sorry that would maybe a great, answer BUT i just
really haven't thought of it that. Way it's just been
this is our, Schedule. Okay, now how are we going
to navigate our way through it to be to be
in the best position to have some?

Speaker 3 (01:57:53):
Success? Okay all? Right so.

Speaker 2 (01:57:58):
That's, uh you, KNOW i.

Speaker 3 (01:58:01):
That's how most coaches are going to.

Speaker 2 (01:58:02):
React they're going to, say we play who's in front
of us when we play them when they're on the.
Schedule he said, THAT i don't really think about it
because coaches don't like to dwell in the what if
they don't like.

Speaker 3 (01:58:14):
To, well he's done doing the, hypotheticals, Remember, yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:58:20):
No hypothetics for that. Man so that that's you, know
that's he prefers to think of it now, again like we,
said going, FORWARD i think it's going to change for
the rest of the. League we're going to get into
a really balanced schedule, thing WHICH i think is a
really good.

Speaker 3 (01:58:37):
THING i think sark, things it's a real good. THING
a lot of folks.

Speaker 2 (01:58:39):
Do is that they'll play nine conference, games and uh
so they'll play nine conference. Games and then not only
will they play nine conference, games you'll you are assured
of playing every team in the league at least once
every two, years and you're assured of having every team
in the league come to your place at least once

(01:59:00):
every foty.

Speaker 3 (01:59:01):
Years SO i think that's a good strategy and a good.

Speaker 5 (01:59:06):
Plan LIKE i, mean eventually people start to complain if they, say,
well why don't you Play? Alabama, oh why don't you Play.

Speaker 2 (01:59:14):
Georgia Whimber a and M georgia for they still haven't
played each other. Yet And auburn or Of florida hasn't Played.
Auburn AND i was talking To Sean. Kelly they're played
by play. Voice he, said think about. That that's the
CLOSEST sec school to where we are right And florida
since the EXPANDED sec has not Played. Auburn, wow that'll.
Change all of that stuff is going to change starting next.

(01:59:37):
Year all, right up, next some more From. Sark pretty
pretty interesting. Answer it's a long form answer about what measures.
Success Because sark made an interesting comment about nine and
three teams and stuff like. That he'll he'll expand it
a little more and give you some greater detail of

(01:59:58):
what he's talking. About we're here up six o'clock and
here Being Twin, Peaks ie thirty five And Stasty come
on by and see. Us this Is Sports RADIO am
thirteen under The zone From Twin, PEAKS i thirty five And.
Stastny we're with you up until six. O'clock all, right
there's an an updating baseball. Playoff there's one game going
on right now and one more. Tonight first of, all earlier.

(02:00:19):
Today detroit ended up winning The wildcard series With. Cleveland
they beat The guardians In cleveland six.' three So now
detroit Will play seattle In The division series and the
final game Of The cubs podres series is going On
At wrigley Field in chicago With the cubs leading. To
nothing it's in the bottom of the. Fourth inning they

(02:00:40):
got two runs off Of you darvish in the bottom
of the second chased him from the. Ball Game, the podres,
without questioning harch have the deepest bullpen in all, of
baseball and they've had to go heavy.

Speaker 3 (02:00:50):
Into it now They've Got michael king out.

Speaker 2 (02:00:52):
There pitching eventually they'll Get to morehane and some of
the other guys that, are very very very important, to
them but right now they're still chasing a two.

Speaker 3 (02:01:00):
Run deficits there is.

Speaker 4 (02:01:01):
No tomorrow so you got to use everybody that you could.
Possibly use and looks like he didn't want to. Use
shades well he's got. Them on he couldn't touch the
ball on the. Right field but you start to understand
that there is no. Waiting around you gotta go get.
The baseball you gotta be able to attack and use
all the arms you possibly can because you don't play Again.

Speaker 3 (02:01:19):
Until Saturday if i'm, not mistaken, that's.

Speaker 2 (02:01:21):
Correct that's what that's when it Would. BE saturday I
know saturday Will be game One, For dodgers Phillies. And
philadelphia the winner Of This Chicago san diego series Will
play milwaukee and it Starts. On saturday then tonight it'll
Be The red Sox, and yankees a bactic third and
final Game At. Yankee stadium the winner of that will
Play The Toronto.

Speaker 4 (02:01:39):
Blue chase that's, interesting too because that means That The
ale east will knock each.

Speaker 3 (02:01:44):
Other out that's all Of the. World series that's, exactly
right you know.

Speaker 2 (02:01:48):
There will it also guarantees That One al east team
will be IN the, alcs yes to face the winner
Of The seattle.

Speaker 3 (02:01:56):
Detroit series it means that. As well On.

Speaker 2 (02:01:59):
THAT okay i want to go to This From long
worn's Head Coach. Steve sarkashan first, of all one more
question about and simulating, for weather and he was asked,
about this and again this Comes from.

Speaker 3 (02:02:15):
I'm not going to, say.

Speaker 2 (02:02:16):
Naive tay it's just if you're not, a practice you,
don't know so you're coming from a perspective of not
knowing exactly what they go through in practice day.

Speaker 3 (02:02:27):
And OWN so i understand the.

Speaker 2 (02:02:29):
Question completely and it was about how do you plan
for the possibility. Of rain do you mix in a?
Wet ball do you? Do that how do you how
do you, you know manage all. Of That and sar had
a pretty encompassing answer as to how they prepare for.
Rainy weather and it's not just done on a one.

Speaker 7 (02:02:51):
Week basis we always practice with wet balls, every week.
You know we don't wait for the week of, you
know and that's something that our quarterbacks is running, back
work wet ball exchanges with, the centers, you know. Every
week our receivers will catch wet balls at minimum once.
A week and so again we're always trying to develop
our guys and so that when games like this. SHOW

(02:03:11):
up i think one of the mistakes you can, make,
is hey it Might, rain saturday so let's practice with
a wet ball all week and you deal with some
of that that when you, do, that well now you're
the timing is a little. Bit different, you know the
receivers are worried about catching a ball as opposed to
maybe the route depth and the coverage and then you Show,
up saturday and, you know the storm never, really hits
or it sprinkles for a quarter and it's sunny the,

(02:03:33):
whole time and you spend all this time. On THAT
so i think you got to find the right balance
in what it in what. It is and then as
a as a as, a coach you got to be
adaptable at any, any game, you know and so you
go into ball games with, a plan and then you
have contingency plans for anything that, could occur, you know
and sometimes your center can't go and you got to

(02:03:56):
start your, backup center like we, had to and you
play that and so maybe some of the things that
you did with your starting center is different when the
backup center or your quarterback, goes out or it starts
to rain or it's. Really windy, you know there's a
there's a million things that can show up on, game
day and then you have to have the ability to
adjust and be adaptable for what may.

Speaker 8 (02:04:16):
Present itself and then and then you play. The odds,
you know what are.

Speaker 7 (02:04:19):
The odds if it's supposed to rain, a lot then
you kind of prepare. For rain if there's no rain in,
the forecast you don't prepare as much. For it, but
again you can't put all your eggs in one basket
and then they come out in a. Different, defense now
what are you? Gonna do, You know so you have
to prepare for for some things that you know that

(02:04:42):
that may, be unforeseen and then you prepare for some
of the odds of what, may occur and then you
try to put your players in the best position to.

Speaker 3 (02:04:48):
Have. SUCCESS yeah i think he makes a great point.
About this THIS is.

Speaker 2 (02:04:54):
I just think it's important to point, this out is
that coaches don't just plan for. THE week, i mean
this is months in the planning that, they do not
that they started in, spring practice going Hey on october Fourth.

Speaker 3 (02:05:10):
And gainsville it my.

Speaker 2 (02:05:11):
Brain, not that but that is just a regular part
of the routine of the.

Speaker 4 (02:05:16):
Practice, schedule yeah and that's something that as a coach
in his time of being around as long as, he
has he's dealt with all of.

Speaker 3 (02:05:25):
These situations and you talked.

Speaker 4 (02:05:27):
About it we had a Conversation With vick schaeffer not too,
long ago and, HE said i Still have i'm doing
the same PRACTICES that i DID when i Was AT
texas a And M mississippi state and so on and.
So ON so i can go and look at a
folder right now, And said i'm at day three, of
PRACTICE and i can SEE what i did that. Long
ago those are the, same things creatures. Of habit that's

(02:05:48):
why we have the press conferences at the, same Time
because sark doesn't want to get out of. His routine
they want to make sure that everything is, buttoned up
and of course making sure that you practice the right
way just in case you have some.

Speaker 3 (02:06:02):
Crazy weather situation that you're.

Speaker 2 (02:06:04):
Prepared for put it, this way it doesn't vary by
more than. Thirty minutes right there's a regular weekly presser
or even today with the with the, press conference with the,
media availability it doesn't it, doesn't, Alter right so. That's,
exactly yeah that's so that's that's, a big big part of,
that thing.

Speaker 3 (02:06:22):
All right so as, we continue there's one of the THINGS.

Speaker 2 (02:06:27):
That i WANT that i want you to Hear, from
sark and this Is the this is one of the
last things that he, talked about and it requires a
little set.

Speaker 3 (02:06:35):
Up here.

Speaker 2 (02:06:38):
Sart on monday made a reference and we've heard him
make kind of oblique references to this earlier this season
and in, the past but as it came in that
it'll be a nine game conference schedule that coming down
a couple of, weeks ago and with what he had
already talked about how challenging today's age of college football

(02:07:02):
is and that it's now a twelve, team playoff probably
going to go sixteen.

Speaker 3 (02:07:08):
And in.

Speaker 2 (02:07:10):
Probably starting in, TWENTY seven i think it would probably go.
To sixteen it's been talked about possibly even being larger.
Than that and he looked at, the macro and he
looked at the whole and he made a reference the
other day In his monday press conference to hoping that
fans would be able to wrap their head around and
understand that nine and three might not be a. Bad

(02:07:32):
thing and nine And three i'll probably get you into
the college, football playoff depending on who the losses, are
too and that sort. Of thing and he'll make. Another
reference this question that he's about to address From anwar
richardson was almost identical TO what i asked him yesterday
when We Recorded. Longhorn weekly so those listening at seven o'clock,
coming up will hear him say almost the exact same

(02:07:54):
thing he's about to. Say here he just put a
little more depth. On it here because us anware ask
him about expectations and the nine and. Three, thing now
if you just as a regular person one of us
set on a show like this show or, another one
now you know nine and three is. Not bad there's
gonna be a. Fan base there's a lot of.

Speaker 3 (02:08:18):
What are you?

Speaker 2 (02:08:18):
Talking about And and sart gets all, of that but
he's got a more extrapolated answer and explanation for how it.
All changes the nine and three we knew five years
ago is not going to be the nine and three
we know in today's, college football all.

Speaker 5 (02:08:37):
Of the changing of talent and coming from different places
and being established and.

Speaker 2 (02:08:44):
Exactly the portal people exactly and without further Ado do
Here is sark's explanation about that deal about is it
still a successful season if you don't make the playoff
or nine? And three and how you deal with the calibration.
Of expectation so it's not really my job to.

Speaker 7 (02:09:06):
CONVINCE him i THINK it's i think it's getting fans
on their own to wrap their heads around that. It
is my job is to coach our team and to
put them in the best position to be successful and
to try to win as many games as we can
and try to WIN an sec championship in a national
championship like that's what we try to do every week in.
EVERY season i do, think though the fans are gonna

(02:09:27):
have to at some point wrap their heads.

Speaker 8 (02:09:29):
Around This and i'm not just Talking About.

Speaker 7 (02:09:30):
Longhorn nation there's a lot of prideful programs THROUGHOUT the
sec and throughout the country that.

Speaker 8 (02:09:39):
Are gonna have to get out of what was.

Speaker 7 (02:09:41):
The norm and the, norm was, you know an undefeated
national champion or maybe a one loss. NATIONAL champion i
just don't think it's. Gonna happen and maybe somebody's gonna prove.
Me wrong maybe, they will but but, YOU know i
think Back To ohio state a year ago with this.
New format they didn't even make their conference championship game

(02:10:03):
and they were a two loss team and then went
on to go win the national championship and they got
hot at the. Right time we are becoming more and
more LIKE. The nfl we're gonna PLAY nine, Sec games
we're gonna, play one, you know power for. Non conference
next year We've Got. Ohio state the year, after that We've.
GOT michigan i think after that We've Got. Notre dame

(02:10:23):
so now we're, playing ten, you know, top ten top
fifteen programs around, the country and then we're gonna go
possibly play a conference, championship game which now, is eleven
and then we're.

Speaker 8 (02:10:34):
Gonna get into the college.

Speaker 7 (02:10:35):
Football playoff and now you're looking at another four games.
LIKE that, I mean, i just, YOU know i just
don't know if it's realistic to think. That way and
so everybody's everybody is going to, you know the record
isn't going to dictate, you know what was before you
needed to go undefeated and win your bowl game and
hopefully the voters voted you in a.

Speaker 8 (02:10:55):
National champion that's not how it.

Speaker 7 (02:10:57):
Works, anymore now you just got to get into the
playoffs and then are you the best team for that
month of, the season right in Which What ohio state
was a year ago and they. SHOWED that i don't
know if they were the best team at the end
of the, regular season but they surely were the best
team when the. Playoffs hit, and so, you know AND
then i think, for everybody it's, all relative, you know

(02:11:17):
of what's the successful season? Predicated on, you know what
your program has been built upon and what you think
you're capable Of being for, some teams a really successful
season may not be making.

Speaker 8 (02:11:28):
The playoffs it may just be making the top.

Speaker 7 (02:11:30):
Twenty five for, other programs a successful season may just
be making. The playoffs for, other programs a successful season
may be making it To The New year's day bol
or making it To the, final four or making it
to The.

Speaker 8 (02:11:42):
National championship.

Speaker 7 (02:11:43):
EVERYTHING'S relative i believe to the program and the state
of programs that, are there AND so i just think
it's it's a, different time it's a different era of
where where we've gone to in, college football and that
we've all had. To recalibrate we had to recalibrate when
the transfer. Portal opened we had to recalibrate when nil came.

(02:12:06):
Into effect we had to recalibrate when conference. Realignment occurred
we had to recalibrate When The College football. Playoff expanded
we're having to recalibrate now with. Revenue sharing we're having
to recalibrate now with the exposure of college football and
how much attention that each individual players are getting and
the constructive criticism that college football players.

Speaker 8 (02:12:27):
Are getting now we're having to recalibrate.

Speaker 7 (02:12:30):
Draft kings putting odds out on players Winning, the heisman
or where players are going to get drafted IN the
nfl draft the. Next year we have to recalibrate of
now what a successful season looks like predicated on a
record that a team, may have and so everybody's having.
To recalibrate and there's nothing wrong. With THAT like, i
said there's nothing wrong, with that but we've all got.

(02:12:52):
To recalibrate, you know we can't all change college football
and then still have an, Expectation, of oh we didn't
go sixteen to h and wishing to win a. National
championship that team was. JUST okay i don't know if
those teams in the early two thousands were going to
run the table either the way this schedules set up.

Speaker 8 (02:13:07):
Right NOW so i. Don't know it's a. Great sport
it's a.

Speaker 7 (02:13:10):
Great GAME like, i said the attention of it all
is at an all, time HIGH and i hope people
are appreciating the quality of football that's getting played On,
every saturday because there's more parody now than ever with
the transfer portal AND with nil and.

Speaker 2 (02:13:23):
REVENUE sharing i think the main points to come out
of this what he's talking about when people ask about
expectation or whatever is this good enough or.

Speaker 3 (02:13:32):
YadA YadA is there are.

Speaker 2 (02:13:35):
Two major there's four major dynamics that make college football
today IN the sec anyway different than it was ten,
years ago certainly twenty.

Speaker 3 (02:13:49):
Years ago is he is the reference.

Speaker 2 (02:13:50):
He made those four dynamics are transfer portal in il,
and THEN like, I, said sec the expansion of the,
conference came and then obviously the imminent expansion of the College,
football playoff which, right now, right now if you go
to the championship and you're one of the, best teams

(02:14:10):
even with, a buye the minimum amount of games that
you can play would be fifteen, or sixteen depending on
whether you won your. Conference championship but you're probably not
going to get a buy if you don't win your,
conference championship if you're one of the. Power fours so
let's say you do play in that conference championship and you,
win that so, that's one and like, he said then
if you got the buy then you're in. The quarterfinal,

(02:14:32):
that's two, semi, final three, championship four four to. A
twelve that's a sixteen. Game season longgorns played the sixteen
game season last year went thirteen. And three they didn't
win their, conference championship but had to play the play,
in game the first, round game and if it goes,
to sixteen there's no more such thing as a play
in that's just the first round because everybody will.

Speaker 4 (02:14:51):
Be playing so let me ask, you this do you
believe that this is now headed into a place where
there may not be a conference. CHAMPIONSHIP game i know,
THE sponsors i don't, want that all the people that
have been a part, Of it Chick Fil, a bowl
all the different bowls and arenas that they have to.
Play in but to, your point and to what starts, talking,
about now you're adding all these extra games that may

(02:15:14):
not truly have a bearing anymore except for the fact
of what you said about the by part, of it
and you get the. Automatic bid, you know it's a lot.
Of time and here's. THE thing i don't see them.
Going away there's too much money for.

Speaker 2 (02:15:26):
The conferences the networks are willing to pay those tens
of millions.

Speaker 3 (02:15:29):
Of dollars for that, one game a conference.

Speaker 2 (02:15:31):
Championship game and if you're good enough to get to the,
conference championship you're probably going to be in the playoff
even if but it.

Speaker 5 (02:15:38):
Don't have to be a. Bowl game it could be
a championship, series Game the Texas versus an m and
the first championship, series game and then you treat that
like a. Bowl game it's just a series game and
you still get to put your money. In it, And
again i'm talking about. Conference championships That's what i'm. Talking

(02:15:59):
about that, Goes.

Speaker 2 (02:16:00):
Away YEAH and i don't think it will simply because
there's too much money that goes to. The conference no
matter which two teams are playing in it. Got you
the conference is going to accrue, the revenue the. Television
revenue it's tens of millions. Of dollars they're not going
to say no. To THAT so i think the conference
championship games. Are here it also provides the opportunity for

(02:16:21):
a school that might not otherwise might not otherwise get
a chance to play in the playoff if they didn't
win that.

Speaker 3 (02:16:28):
Conference, champion well.

Speaker 5 (02:16:29):
What about the people that don't have a? Conference championship
should they? Have one now that even in odds and
make them have to play.

Speaker 2 (02:16:37):
Another game only one that doesn't have It Is notre
dame because they don't play in a. Conference championship everybody
else has a conference. Championship game now they finally have
brought all.

Speaker 5 (02:16:44):
That, in yeah they should make an independent.

Speaker 2 (02:16:47):
Championship, game well let me tell, You This, notre dame
because happened with.

Speaker 3 (02:16:54):
The playoff they.

Speaker 2 (02:16:55):
Can never get a first round by because the high
ranked the four highest ranked conference champions for the ones
that are gonna get. The Buy notre dame will never
get a bye under. This configuration but but The little
catholic University In, South bend indiana doesn't have a great
problem because they know if they have a, good season
they're going to get any that way without even having

(02:17:15):
to play in a.

Speaker 3 (02:17:17):
Conference championship never thought. About it, all.

Speaker 2 (02:17:19):
Right we've got more. Coming up we will continue From.
TWIN peaks i have thirty five at stastic here On
SPORTS radio am thirteen hundred the zone In the, iHeartRadio
app we have about twenty more minutes of the program
here updating the baseball. For you they're in the bottom
of the fifth inning and regularly feel the decisive third
game Of the. Wildcard series cubs continue to Lead the padres.

(02:17:42):
To Nothing san diego had the tying runs in scoring
position runners at second, and Third And Fernando, tatists junior
who has struggled throughout, the series popped out in. The
inning he's now one for eleven in the series in.
That one so it's Two nothing cubs Leading. The padres
and again that is in the bottom half of the
fifth Inning. In chicago the winner will go just up

(02:18:04):
the Road. To milwaukee uh after whoever wins, THIS contest i.

Speaker 5 (02:18:09):
Just hope That's not judge later, On tonight like, you
know you have, the guy that's, the guy right and
you want him in every series at least to get
one knock or or HIT an rbi that brings in
a game winning score or something to. That Effect and
judge hasn't. Done.

Speaker 2 (02:18:26):
THAT no i in the In the, YANKEES case i
think it's. Two guys it's It's it's Judge and stanton For,
THE padres i think it's. TWO guys i think the
lead dog Really Is, manny machado who has come through
at a home. Run yesterday but It's it's Machada. And
tattiss but. Tattis uh and this has been the case

(02:18:47):
of the past.

Speaker 3 (02:18:48):
FEW years i know you know.

Speaker 2 (02:18:49):
This hard he has colossally underperformed in clutch situations in
the postseason.

Speaker 4 (02:18:55):
And he's been up in those situations to where he
could Change the.

Speaker 3 (02:18:58):
Alchemim difference.

Speaker 4 (02:18:59):
That's right he can definitely make, a difference and he
hadn't been able to.

Speaker 3 (02:19:02):
Do so it goes back to.

Speaker 4 (02:19:04):
That situation do you believe that you're putting too much
pressure on yourself or is the moment? Too Big Remember
barry bonds had that for a long time and then
all of a sudden he got out of it and
he changed the way the game was being viewed with
him at.

Speaker 3 (02:19:16):
The, play yeah that that.

Speaker 2 (02:19:18):
That's true never Won A world series exactly because he
was instill in that front phase when they when they
Had the angels down three games to two in two
thousand and two and up six nothing going to the
sixth Inning of, game six.

Speaker 3 (02:19:32):
And then you get. To collapse. That's exactly you get,
To collapse.

Speaker 2 (02:19:36):
That's exactly, but, Hey, listen yeah you've Been a, rangers, fan, right,
yes absolutely? All right what do you what do you make,
Of Uh bruce bochie that that's gonna be the end
of his Time in arlington at least as the, field manager,
and they, you know offered him a front. Office position
there's some who believe you might go Back To san
francisco to Be the giants.

Speaker 4 (02:19:55):
MANAGER again i thought that the time that they got
out of him during, that time with the transformation of
all the free agents and, the people he.

Speaker 3 (02:20:06):
Was the right guy to be able to lead.

Speaker 4 (02:20:08):
That team after that was over and they Won The,
WORLD series i thought he was gonna. Walk AWAY then
i thought he was gonna tip. HIS cap i DID
what i needed, to do brought the first championship To The.
Texas RANGERS now i can. Rest easy and coming back
this year and dealing with all the injuries that, they
had not sure about their, pitching staff running people up
and Down From round Rock to arlington.

Speaker 2 (02:20:30):
Was crazy they kept the five shuttle pretty. Regular EXACTLY
so i think it's a.

Speaker 3 (02:20:34):
Good. Thing now the biggest question is who's going to? Replace?

Speaker 2 (02:20:37):
Him yeah uh and and and you know what's been
SAID is i guess about the group is That the
rangers are entering a new era with a lot of.
Younger GUYS and i think they won a, younger voice
even though it was a pretty, steady voice who they
canna have. Boom exactly, Happy listen yankee fans are going

(02:20:59):
to be unhappy with whoever is. The manager Of the
yankees until like finally breakthrough and win Their First world
series is two thousand.

Speaker 5 (02:21:06):
AND nine i think you're Right because i'm being hard,
on him but he does make a couple. Of decisions
he's made a couple of decisions last year and leading
to this year that's just. Not unforgivable but it's, just
like why Were you It's Like.

Speaker 3 (02:21:25):
Jerry jones we? Know, why, well yeah you Know why
jerry made.

Speaker 5 (02:21:29):
The decisions he, Won't sensationalism he don't care if. He
fails is his decision and he'll stick to it and he'll live.

Speaker 3 (02:21:37):
With it but everybody else, will like why why the
anguish in? Your, voice well but If.

Speaker 2 (02:21:47):
The, yankees win even Though The blue chays have home,
field advantage YOU know i, Would think and That's because
toronto won the season Series With, new York right but
it's not necessarily really. About that it's about who's the
hot team. Right now and that's why a lot of
people Think the dodgers might be able to take Out,
the phillies even Though the phillies won four of the
six games between the two this year and would and

(02:22:10):
are going to have home. Field advantage who's the hot team,
right now not necessarily the.

Speaker 5 (02:22:16):
Best Team the yankees have been hot these last. Twelve
games they won ten of. Those, twelve well.

Speaker 6 (02:22:22):
We've also seen teams who are hot coming into the
playoffs get to, the postseason and teams that aren't hot
entering the postseason then turn It, on.

Speaker 3 (02:22:30):
Detroit, right yep two good wins out of. The row?
Look good? Look?

Speaker 6 (02:22:35):
Good RIGHT and i go back to two years ago
When the rangers Won The, world series they stumbled into.
The playoffs houston ended up coming back from behind WINNING The.
Al west, What happened rangers went on to Win The
world series and on the way took Out The. Houston
Astros so i've always been High. IN detroit, I mean
school was just a. FANTASTIC player i really feel like

(02:22:56):
they could turn it on into.

Speaker 3 (02:22:57):
The Postseason And i'm.

Speaker 6 (02:22:58):
Toronto's bats, you Know if Vladie grow junior can can,
stay healthy he is an absolute. Difference maker BUT, the,
NL definitely, i believe Is the division two the league rather.
To beat and it starts to, Your. Team craig if
the bullpen can can come out there and, pitch WELL
then i don't think anyone can Beat.

Speaker 2 (02:23:17):
The dodgers they might have figured out their closer, last Night,
ro quisasaki since he's come back. From injury but the
bridge to the closure has been just a high.

Speaker 3 (02:23:25):
Wire act that's a.

Speaker 2 (02:23:26):
Roller coas but the starting pitching has been, so good
and they're going to start Show a Otani in game
one and and then AND then i think they'll come
Back With tyler glass now who did not pitch In The,
division Series in game two and In The national league
and you, know this THE nl ds is. Is unusual
they have game one and they have an off day

(02:23:46):
that's before They have. Game two that's to Allow The
american league to get caught up with them in the rotation.
Of that so, you know that's that's what would. Happen,
There right they're going to the sixth Inning, in chicago
The Astro kyle tucker meekly grounding out to in.

Speaker 3 (02:24:03):
The inningfield that's the first time they've got him out.

Speaker 2 (02:24:05):
Today, though yeah, that's right, that's right, All right so,
you know it's it's gonna be interesting to see how
all of that. Plays out nobody's really talking that much
About The. Milwaukee brewers he had the best record in
all of baseball this year because they're not the quote
unquote sexy team.

Speaker 3 (02:24:24):
To watch he just do, things right right they get
base hits.

Speaker 2 (02:24:27):
Or not they're not a bunch of wall Bangers Like
harvey's wallbangers Or the brewers of the.

Speaker 3 (02:24:32):
Early eighties and they're not.

Speaker 2 (02:24:33):
Like that they're they're they're a different they're they're a
different team.

Speaker 4 (02:24:36):
Than that they don't Have A cecil cooper on that
team right there, Playing, there.

Speaker 2 (02:24:41):
No but they've got lots of guys that Are like
robin out, you know maybe maybe not as great As
the Hall of, famer now but but, Like, that uh
they've got a lot of guys, and THAT and i
think they're going to be difficult to be and they
have home field advantage all the way through. The postseason
as long as they're in, the postseason they have home,
field advantage. No Doubt, all right we'll be back to
wrap up our program from Here At. TWIN peaks i

(02:25:03):
have thirty five in testing On SPORTS radio am Thirteen
hundred zone Of the.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
