Speaker 1 (00:00):
The review of these specific things I think is important.
An MLB came out with all this that no one
had ever gone six for six in a game with
three home runs, five extra base hits, and two steals.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
It's never happened.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
And professional baseball in some form has been played for
like one hundred and fifty years. No one had ever
had six hits, three homers, and a stolen base. No
one had ever had three homers and two steals in
one game. No one ever had seventeen total bases in
a game in which they didn't go deep four times.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
He did it three times.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
No one had ever had more than eleven total bases
in a game where they stole multiple bases. No one
had ever had a ten RBI game with even as
much as one stolen base.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
So that's the.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Amazing thing about it. All of those kinds of numbers
also sewn Green, who the former Dodger who Otani passed yesterday.
For home runs in a season, Green had hit forty
nine in two thousand and one, and of course Otani's
now fifty one. But Green set the single game record
(01:14):
with nineteen total bases with a four homer game that
was in two thousand and two. What Otani did yesterday,
quite frankly, is being called the greatest offensive performance ever
seen in Major League baseball, and it's amazing. And to
do it on the day where he reached fifty to fifty,
(01:34):
I guess that was just incredible stuff there, all right.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
You mentioned real quick talking about Bryce Sean earlier in
the show and the expectations and him falling short so far,
and the same thing with kill Williams although it's only
been two games. The expectations for show Atani. Everything we
heard about him was that he was going to transcend baseball,
and sometimes we do see that with players, especially from
overseas in Major League Baseball, sometimes they don't. I think
(02:02):
Otani has matched the level of expectations that we thought
he would play at and even exceeded them because the
fifty to fifty club absolutely insane. We got to see
him play at the All Star Game at Globe Life
earlier this season, saw him had an absolute tank and
I can still think hear the sound of the ball
off that bat. It did not sound human.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
It's funny you bring that up, and you're right. It
makes me think of the late the great Buck O'Neill.
It was the great Negro League's Hall of Famer and
player and just baseball historian and all around ambassador. And
Buck O'Neill used to talk about that sound and he
said he'd only heard that sound in his life. And
(02:46):
I think he was born like around nineteen thirteen or something,
but he said he'd only heard that sound, that particular
sound of how the bat strikes the ball. I think
he said three times in his life.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Four times.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
The first was Babe Ruth, the second was Ted Williams,
the third was Henry Aaron, think Aaron, and the fourth
one was Bo Jackson. The way the ball just cracked
off the bat. I think if if Buck O'Neil were
alive today, he would he would say the same exact
thing about Joey O Tony, because it does. I've heard
(03:21):
baseball commentators talk about that, it just has a different
sound to it when when that's going on, and you know,
it's it's it's impressive stuff. And having said all that,
and we talked a little bit, you heard us talking
mainly about the wildcard race with Geene Watson, but the
division races, there's only one division that's been wrapped up
(03:44):
and that was the Brewers.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Milwaukee had done that a couple of days ago.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
The Yankees have clinched a playoff spot, the Dodgers clinched
a playoff spot, but and the Guardians have clinched a
playoff spot, but the divisions have not yet been wrapped
up other than the National League Central, so so other
than that, those other divisions, and they're going to go
(04:08):
down to the wire, and both the Yankees and the
Dodgers have a little bit of breathing space. They got
the four game league with nine to go, but it's
not done yet. Baltimore is still right back of New
York and San Diego still putting the heat on the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (04:22):
So as far as.
Speaker 1 (04:24):
Baseball goes, things still to be decided. With one week
to go plus this weekend in the regular season. Let
me jump back to the National Football League. We haven't
done too much on that so far today, so I
want to get your thoughts on this. We'll get to
the Cowboys soon enough, but I'm going to start with
your thoughts on some other games. You have an onze
(04:46):
two Giants team playing in a one in one Browns.
Speaker 2 (04:55):
What do you make of that matchup?
Speaker 3 (04:57):
That's a game that I think Kevin Clark from ESPN
always jokes about, like in the middle of June when
you're just dying for football, this is the game that
you wish you could have on, even though at the
time you have no interest in watching the h and
two Giants in the one and one Cleveland Browns led
by the Shawn Watson. But I mean for Danny Dimes
(05:20):
or Deshaun Watson, this is a game where if they struggle, Craig,
you might be looking at a backup quarterback coming in.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Yep. I agree as well. Packers at Titans. We don't
know if Jordan Love is going to be back.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
He is practicing, Yeah, and you know they've been trying
to run the ball with Josh Jacobs and playing at
a Tennessee team that so won two and will Levis
has had his struggles.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Yeah, a huge game for Tennessee. For Green Bay with
Malik Willis. I mean, I know Milike Willis completed like
Toba fourteen passes, but I mean how many of those
were like either at the at the line of scrimmage,
behind the line of scrimmage, or like five yards downfield
or less. So Tennessee which a very good defensive team.
Their struggles have been really on offense with Will Levy
(06:00):
and his constant turnovers, but Ken Tennessee really hone in
on Malik Willis. But the fact that they won one
game last week without Jordan Love is a win. If
you can somehow find a way to take this one
two and one, it's a lot better than possibly zero
and three, which I thought could possibly be in play
when the Jordan Love news happened against Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (06:18):
Well, the team they beat, the Colts, they're owing two
and playing a one and one Bears team, two young quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
This is a get right game for both quarterbacks. We've
seen kill Williams, who has struggled, but I don't think
it's all his fault. Defensive line has been putrid, and
for the Colts, their defense has been very stinky. And
Richardson has struggled. I mean he's I said last week,
He's made some great throws and then he has some
throws where it's like okay, and I think we all
forget Greg. He's only started I think fourteen games as
(06:46):
a quarterback across all levels, right, fourteen, so it's gonna
take some time for him to get really comfortable as
a starting quarterback, but will be a fun quarterback game
to watch.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Is the best game in the NFL the Texans at Vikings?
Speaker 3 (06:58):
I think so. Now does appear that the Vikings will
be without some key players. Jordan Addison has been rolled out.
No words yet on Justin Jefferson, but with a length
of the schedule, I think more teams are gonna lean
into the side of caution and not play these guys.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
We don't have to.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
So if Sam Donald is without Addison and Jefferson will
be tough. But hey, he let that game winning drive.
I think in week two without those guys on the field.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
If it's not that game, maybe the best game is
Eagle Saints.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
Oh well, it seems like the sky is falling in Philadelphia.
Their run defense was not great against Atlanta. I think
the Falcons should have won that game by a lot more.
They could convert in the red zones that can field gold.
So how will that hold up in I think we
all want to know. Is New Orleans for real or
do they just play two stinky teams in.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
The first two weeks? All right, Chargers, Steelers, They're about
two to zero.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
Yeah, it looks like Justin Fields remain at quarterback the
spite Russell Wilson possibly being healthy. This will be a game.
I mean, the Chargers have not thrown the ball a lot.
The Steelers have not thrown the ball a lot, So
this will be a lot of ugly football.
Speaker 2 (08:02):
I think.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
Speaking of ugly, do we care about Broncos at Bucks
or Panthers at Raiders?
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Panthers Raiders, No, do not care? Bucks two and oh
all right?
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Dolphins are at Seahawks Seahawks two.
Speaker 3 (08:14):
And oh no Tua in Seattle under McDonald. They have
looked very good now, beat the Pats last week and
the Patch just got demolished last night. But hey, you
know he's been playing great for them, Byron Murphy.
Speaker 1 (08:25):
That's right, Rams rowing two against forty nine ers. I
don't feel good about that one, all right, So let's
just get to Ravens Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Well, what do you want to know? Correct? This is
a This is a I don't know if it's a
must win game for Dallas, it certainly is for Baltimore
because an open three start, I mean, that's that seems
like death or any team to be able to come
back in to win a playoff game. Or he actually
even just make the playoffs for Dallas. I mean, their
run defense has been awful this season and you're facing
one of the best running teams in the NFL. So
(08:54):
if you're Todd Munkin in hardball, I'm just letting Derek
he get the rock a lot in this game, and
I think if Baltimore goes to that game plan, Dallas
will be in trouble.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
Lightning Ground, just give me a winner, real quick. Lions
at Cardinals, Cardinals. Okay, Chiefs at Falcons, Chiefs, Jags at Bills, Bills,
Commanders at Bengals, Bengals.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Okay, there you go.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
