Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome back to the Craig Way Show and the Voice
of the Longhorns.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Craig Way.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
Follow Craig on social media at Horn Voice.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
You probably noticed that we weren't rolling.
Speaker 1 (00:19):
Back with yacht Rock today, which we normally do on Wednesdays,
but we had so much going on today on the
Texas o U week, we decided just to step back
and step away from the yacht rock for one week.
But it'll be back. I promise we'll roll it back
in for all of the reasons. Because Cameron Parker misses
the yacht rock, right you becoming.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
We'll bring it back. Oh yeah, for sure, Yeah for sure.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
All right, let's hear a little more from Longhorn's head coach,
Steve Sarkisian. This is from the SEC teleconference. This this
next answer to a question is a question that in
the inverse was kind of directed at Lynn Venables minimals.
Excuse me, Brent Mivinnibles, the head coach of the Oklahoma Sooners,
(01:05):
because I was perusing and watching all of that the
news conference.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
This is.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
A question about matching up mentally in the chess match
with Brent Vinnibles, the Oklahoma Sooners head coach.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
A ton of respect for coach Venibles.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
He's been a great defensive coach for a long long time,
multiple stops. His defense definitely has a lot of personality
to it. You know, there's a lot of defense. They
play hard, they they play with amazing effort. You know,
they're they're very opportunistic. They create turnovers, and that's everywhere
he's been in this Oklahoma defense is no different. You know,
(01:44):
I think they're one of the leaders in the countries
in the country in sacks. Uh, they're one of the
leaders in turnover and turnover margin, and they you know,
they can create a lot of havoc and I think
that all is a byproduct of his style of defense
and the way he calls it to barry gress in
nature and creates a lot of challenges.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
There was a similar type question posed to Brnt Venables,
but it was more along the lines, well, I mean,
it was kind of like that, but it was really
kind of directed into the whole element of a chess match,
Venables being the defensive guru against Sark the offensive specialists,
(02:25):
and it was kind of the direction a little bit
about that. He talked about Brent Vinibles defense Venibles when
he was asked about it. So I never really don't
look at it that way, you know, he said, he
I don't look at it as a chess match of
how I do my defense act on how he does
his offense with this and this, and he went on
into some other reasons as well. But folks are going
to go there naturally, because that was truly Brent Venables
(02:49):
area of concentration. What he built his reputation on is
being an outstanding defensive coach.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
And we all know what the reputation.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Is for sarka as an offensive play caller and an
offensive mastermind of when it comes to college football. So
that's going to be a natural comparison and conversation that
folks have on them.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
That the other thing, when you flip it the other.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
Way and you talk about the Texas defense against the
Oklahoma offense, this is when you think about it. It is
kind of a unique question put to Sark about his
defense gearing up for Michael Hawkins junior, the freshman from
Frisco Emerson. How Hawkins is, now in Sark's fourth season
(03:36):
at the Helm as head coach for Texas, is going
to face his fourth different starting quarterback for Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
I have not enjoyed. I think you said it.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
I think that's the norm, you know, in this day
and age of you know, just the reality of that position,
the reality of the climate of college football right now.
You know, it's more about the scheme and then and
then getting the feel for the quarterback within from year
to year. I mean, even that the scheme has changed some.
(04:17):
You know, they obviously lost their offensive coordinator. Coach Levy
is now Mississippi State too, so you know, have the
set there last year as an analyst I think has
helped them. But that's what I was saying about us
this year, We're we're really the anomaly. Having a third
year starting quarterback in Quinn is probably more of the
anomaly than you know, the turnover at the quarterback quarterback
(04:38):
position that a lot of people have.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:40):
Interesting, He mentioned Seth Latrell, who had been an analyst
there at OU. After Seth Latrell been at North Texas
I think seven years and took him to a couple
of bowl games before he was fired from North Texas
and he signed on with Oklomb. Of course, Latrell played
at Ou in the nineties to early two thousands, and
then he was an analyst. Now now he's the offensive
(05:03):
coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Brent Vinnable's there, and then
something off the grid. As always, always, always, the question
is going to come up. And when you're on an
SEC teleconference, and I've mentioned this before and I'll continue
to mention this, you are fielding questions if you're a
head coach on this conference call, because every all sixteen
(05:26):
head coach has participated. It starts like at ten in
the morning, goes to at like one o'clock in the afternoon,
and there's like between five and ten minutes for each coach,
and there are writers, broadcasters, bloggers, fan site writers and
reporters of various sorts who are all on this conference call,
(05:48):
on this teleconference, and you're invariably going to get questions
from reporters from different parts of the country, in other words,
not from the state of Texas, from Florida or South
Carolina or Kentucky or Georgia, and they'll l ask a
question that folks down in these parts very well know
(06:09):
you know how Sart's going to answer it or whatever.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Then you get questions like this, and.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
It can only come really and truly from one of
two places, Texas or Oklahoma, and the question is has
he ever had a Fletcher's corny Dog or any other
state fair food. That question was put to Sarks, so
you know it had to be a reporter's question coming
from either inside the boundaries of the state of Texas
(06:37):
or Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
I have not enjoyed I think you said, a corny dog,
and have not had a chance to really to partake
in the state Fair. But I know it's a great time.
I know our fans really enjoy it. It's always fun
when we show up to the stadium. We kind of
drive through the fair and see the fans from both
Texas and OU and the that they have in both programs.
(07:02):
Very unique setting for a football game, and I think
that's what makes this game so special, is just that
it being at the Fair and there's almost as many
people outside the stadium, or more people outside of the
stadium there are inside the stadium. The fans getting split
right there at the fifty ton of energy in the stadium.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
So it's fun.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
You know, maybe if we win, I'll try to find
a corny dog or something.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
Sarta does not remember this apparently from his answer there,
but I'm going to remind him of this this evening
when we're recording Walghorn Weekly over at Pluckers the West
Campus location. Yes, it is Wednesday, so we're back to
having Coach Sark back on.
Speaker 2 (07:44):
We didn't.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
We took a week off during the bye week, but
we're back and we normally record the program from six
until seven. I think we're going to start a few
minutes earlier tonight so that Sark and the team can
get over to the Ut Tower for the Texas Fight Rally,
because that actually starts at six point thirty with students
(08:06):
gathering and all that sort of stuff, But the program
itself starts at seven, So we're going to begin our
recording of the show a few minutes prior to seven
o'clock to six o'clock so that he can be done
a few minutes prior to seven and get over there
with the team for the Texas Fight Rally. Here's where
I'm going with this. Two years ago, the question was
(08:29):
brought up to Sark about all the deep fried foods
and things like that. If you're going to ask Sark
about a deep fried food at the State Fair, don't
go coin dog, don't go turkey leg don't go any
of that stuff.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Sark has a sweet tooth.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
It's all about the desserts, and he said there might
be something there, and I rattled off the list. I'm
going to do it again tonight, the recording some of
those desserts because you uncovered a few other ones, didn't
you camp Yeah, well extra ones. All right, we'll go
over some of those in four o'clock hour. But he said,
if we win, then I might go. Well, that was
(09:04):
forty nine nothing two years ago. So somebody went out
and brought him like I think it was the thing.
I had the bisco offer something in the bowl and
chocolate and all this other kind of stuff, and he
loved it. So I'll remind him of that as Hey,
the last time you did that, you had just won
forty nine nothing.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
So we'll see.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
All right, we'll be back and wrap up our number
two on sports Radio AM thirteen Hunderd The Zone
