Speaker 3 (00:18):
It's a long worn this Monday here on Sports Radio
AM thirteen hundred zone. Yes, Sargon did not have a
press conference, aver he did have a zoom yesterday to
talk about the Long horns inclusion into the college football
Playoff as the number five c playing Clemson here a
week from Saturday, on the twenty first, at three o'clock
in the afternoon, he was asked about facing this offense

(00:40):
coordinated by Garrett Riley. Yeah, the younger brother Lincoln Riley.
Garrett Riley had been at TCU, and what are his
recollections are going up against the Garrett Riley offense.

Speaker 4 (00:48):
Man, I love Coo, but he was a very unique, yeah,
very creative offensive mind spread you and then utilize the
game because you're spread out, and they do.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
They do a really nice job in the run game,
you know, with.

Speaker 4 (01:05):
The with the with the counterplay, with the guard tackle counterplay.
They utilize the quarterback's legs in the run game, which
we all know. Kate is a is a very adequate runner,
and then they take advantage of the one on one opportunities,
getting you spread out on the field, and so, you know,
very creative. You know, what you see one week is
probably not what you're going to get the next week.

(01:25):
And so he's got a lot of offense that you
have to prepare for, and you know, in two weeks
to prepare, I'm sure we'll.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Get all of it.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
And maybe we'll get some things that we saw a
couple of years ago and we played them now.

Speaker 3 (01:37):
Sark chuckled when he talked about how his players responded
to the revelation on the big board yesterday and the
players lounge there over at Moncrief there at dk R
Texas Memorial Stadium when they saw Texas come up as
the number five seed to play Clemson the twelve seed,
and he chuckled down to the guys were talking about
being the Makuba hole because remember Andrew Cuba out of

(02:00):
LBJ High here in Austin, actually began his collegiate URK
Clemson three seasons over there before transferring in. So he
was asked about that and about Andrew mccooba's impact this
season on this team.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Yeah, so Andrew mccooba is a guy that we are
so glad and happy he decided to come home. He's
a veteran player, obviously, and I learned very quickly he's
an excellent practice player. He's got tremendous practice habits, the
speed in which he practices, the tempo, the physicality, but

(02:35):
yet having the understanding of not going to the ground
when we're not in tackle periods, but yet still putting
himself in really good positions striking people. He's a really
good communicator, and then he plays with confidence back there
and I think he Michael taff jahday.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
They all feed off of one another.

Speaker 4 (02:52):
But you see his experience even in some of the
biggest moments that we're playing in right now. You know,
he's making plays at critical juncture and critical moments in
these games. So doing a great addition to our team,
not only on the field, but in that locker room,
you know, with with his veteran presence.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
And one other question during this port, and I want
to have some more from sard next hour, asked about
you know, in the recent signing period, because remember remember
it's important to point is that those reporters who are on.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
The web zooms.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Are of that group, and there's television reporters, fe radio reporters,
newspaper writers, and then there's.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
The fan site reporters.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
A lot of what the fan site reporters' responsibilities are
is to keep people updated on the recruiting that goes on.
And after all, recruiting is the like blood of a
successful collegiate football program. But they are going to be
more inclined to ask questions about recruiting and signings and

(04:03):
things like that, even at this time of year when
there's a national playoff game coming up, then say.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
A regular writer whatever.

Speaker 3 (04:14):
And to be fair, it certainly makes sense because the
early national signing Day was last Wednesday, and so now
the long ones have that signing class and there's plenty
of big names on that list among those. He was
asked about this young man in specific, the young man
Justice Terry, who you know, announced last week and it

(04:37):
looked like it was going to be with Georgia and
he winds up going with Texas, and he was asked
about the significance of being able to sign Justice Terry.

Speaker 4 (04:46):
Justice Terry is a great signee for us, you know, obviously,
as we and y'all are now seeing the impact that
defensive linemen have in the Southeastern Conference is critical.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
You know, I talk about big humans.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Most people always assume I'm talking about offensive lineman, but
I'm talking about defensive linemen as well.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
I thought we did.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
We sign a really nice defensive line class with he Sharma,
Charles and then obviously our edge players coming in. So
this is you know, it was. It was a nice
ending to the early signing period for us. I think,
you know, made us feel really good about this is
a balance class, but yet we address some real needs
and and obviously in our conference, it starts up front,

(05:29):
most notably the defensive front.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:31):
Uh, that Justice Terry thing kind of turned a lot
of people's uh, you know, on their ear, so to speak,
because the way it ultimately uh wound up, and and
how big it was, because all signs seemed seemed pointing

(05:53):
and indicating toward Terry signing with Georgia, and he winds
up with Texas and the Grand Irony on the weekend
the Texas played Georgia and in the SEC Championship.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah, and don't overlook what happened with Michael Psousi, the
offensive lineman who ended up signing with Oklahoma. I think
Texas was going to put a lot into Passussie's bag,
but he wanted to say to Oklahoma. So that opened
up Texas to you know, push after Michael Terry a
little bit more and for Justice Terry because you know,
nil is a huge part of where a kid ends

(06:20):
up playing college football. We know that, and you know,
it seems like if Texas had beaten Georgia Ler in
the year, they thought Terry would have committed earlier. But
credit to the staff and Kenny Baker, correct because you know,
when you come over from the NFL. Obviously he was
at Western Kentucky before going to Miami Dolphins. He comes
to Texas, you always wonder, Okay, how will an NFL
coach adapt to managing the egos of eighteen year old

(06:43):
kids who needs you know, they need to be recruited
and this and that. But he's put together an incredible
defensive line class and capping it off with a huge
five star edition of Justice Terry and solidifying Texas having
a number one recruiting class for two thousand five.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Absolutely, it was a big, big ad to that signing class.
The fact that came a couple of days after the
signing day added to the suspense, but a big get
for Texas, no doubt. All Right, coming up, we'll wrap
up our number two of the program here on Sports
Radio AM thirteen under the Zone in the irradio app
