Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Welcome to the program on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred design.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
I know that was a little cheehy on nine part.
Sorry about that.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
That's what happens when you fly home from doing a
basketball game that had a nine o'clock started in Las
Vegas last night and we landed in the wee wee
hours of the morning. We, of course, we welcome to
the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
My name is Craig Wait, thank you much for joining us.

(00:32):
We of course includes the producer, and that's Cameron D. Parker.
The D on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, as
he was named for his favorite football team.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
That is woe be gone at the moment.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
But the D could stand for doubling down, as we
were in Las Vegas, but neither of us went to
the tables, at least I didn't.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
Did you go late Sunday night to the tables? Camp?
All right?

Speaker 3 (01:01):
If I tried to get chips, my bank account decline.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
I understand, I understand, so too much a month left
at the end of the money, as the old saying goes.
So the D could stand for delirious because we got
in in the wee wee hours of the morning and
then each of us driving home to Williamson County. But
today is an importantday, obviously, election day, and hopefully you

(01:28):
were able to exercise your constitutional right and vote for
the candidate and issues of your choosing and and it's
a pretty important day. I think we're all aware of that,
and we'll see how it goes tonight. I was joking.
I was with regard to the earth shattering importance of

(01:56):
the first reveal of the college football playoff right by
the College Football Playoff Committee. I was only joking because
this is the first one. Now you get me in
the first week in December. Might be a different issue,
depending on what the field of twelve looks like. We'll
talk about that. Since the announcement comes down at six
o'clock Texas time tonight, we'll do that. There are college

(02:18):
football notes to take. We'll hear some more of the
conversation from Long Wrns head coach Steve Sarkisian from yesterday,
so we'll do that. Additionally, we'll hear from Long Oarns
head coach Rodney Terry after the Texas basketball team opening
season last night in the Hall of Fame Series in
Las Vegas, Nevada an eighty to seventy two loss to

(02:40):
Ohio State.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
The problem shooting the basketball in large measure.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Hard to win games when you shoot thirty seven percent,
and that was the biggest issue that in the fact
that Ohio State was just lights out on fire from
three point range, hit nine of their first twelve beyond
the arc of seventeen in the first half. Now they
only hit four in the second half. But in the end,

(03:05):
in the final analysis, when you look at those numbers,
each team took twenty eight three point shots. The Buckeyes
hit half of theirs fourteen, The Longhorns had half of that,
they had seven.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
It's a big part of it, wasn't all of it.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
And we'll hear from Rodney Terry talking about it as well,
So we'll get to those issues.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
So we'll talk about that.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
And there is NFL to discuss as well, because now
that the Monday night football game, and Cameron was really
adept at not only engineering our basketball broadcast from Las
Vegas last night, but he had the Monday night football
game working on the computer as well, So who was

(03:53):
keeping track of Chiefs Bucks? Was that from a fantasy
football perspective.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Or you were just following, just following watching the Chiefs
to somehow just every week turnout another win. They might
be the most the least impressive eight to no team
of all time. I mean, they don't win these games
with I don't know the Chiefs have have covered this year.
I think they were a touchdown and they have one

(04:19):
by seven with overtime. I thought they were over seven
and a half point favorite in this game. A lot
of games they have not covered against the spread, but
they keep on winning. And it just seems like no
matter how many injuries, or if it's raining, if it's pouring,
that the Chiefs grind out a win. I mean, at
one moment, Mahomes is being help off the field and
then he's back out there and leads to the game

(04:40):
winning drive in overtime.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Yeah, you know they they The Chiefs kind of remind
me of some defending Super Bowl champions of the past
who are good enough to get through some the difficulties
but don't necessarily look like world beaters on a weekend,

(05:06):
week out basis.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Yet they keep winning.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
And that includes teams like the Cowboys' second Super Bowl,
the ninety three team that started owing two when Mmon
Smith was doing the holdout. It reminds me of a
couple of the Steelers teams of the late seventies that
went through that even as they were defending Super Bowl champion.
It reminds me even of the Green Bay Packers, their

(05:31):
Super Bowl two championship team coming off Super Bowl One,
which had that team had been really impressive and then
they just kind of struggled and stumbled through some things,
and yet when the smoke cleared there they were So anyway,
there was a lot of that, but they know how
to get it done. They know what they're supposed to do.

(05:53):
So we'll see how it is going forward on that.
But as always, we open up the text line for
your questions. All you have to do is text the
word Texas followed by your question or comment to eight
one five three zero. So again, just text the word

(06:16):
Texas followed by your question comment to eight one five
three zero. Standard messaging and data rates may apply, so
we'll you know, we can get to your questions. And
like I said, there's a lot to get through with
regard to the University of Texas football, men's basketball, and the
first college football playoff rankings are coming down.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Do you have any any predictions for the first rankings?

Speaker 2 (06:47):
You know, it's kind of I'm I'm kind of interested
to see how the ten is rated out of this,
because you could have four teams right now in the

(07:07):
playoff good four teams in the top ten, even with Oregon,
Ohio State, Penn State in Indiana.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
You could The question is will all four be in?

Speaker 2 (07:18):
That's got me curious as well as obviously you know
the SEC the ACC where Notre Dame is where the
G five, the top G five program would be, and
right now that would be Boise State, who is ranked
and I think it's eleven in the polls, so they
would be in the in the college Football playoff ranking.

(07:41):
And I also want to make sure that that I
think folks know this, and I think they understand this,
even in this first year of the twelve team playoff,
I think folks understand that the AP rankings are going
to be different.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
There's a good chance there's a good chance that.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
The AP rankings are going to be a lot different,
or at least somewhat different than the College Football playoff ranks.
They might not be that different right now, but certainly
when it gets down toward the end, keeping in mind
that a G five school is going to go into
the top twelve whether or not they are ranked there.

(08:32):
You know, going into the final weekend, the conference champion,
the highest ranked conference champion is going to get into
the top twelve. They will have a slot, even if
it is at number twelve. And that's what most folks
seem to think. But I would say this, if Boise
State continues to play well and wins and wins out
and that only loss is a narrow loss to Oregon,
I think they're going to not only be in, they'll

(08:54):
be in on their own merit, and it could possibly
even open up the door for another champion.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
We'll have to see how teams do down the stretch
of this, but I am kind of curious to see
what these first rankings reveal. And there's a lot to discuss.
So we're gonna we're gonna get to that. We'll discuss
those things, we'll get to your questions. We're gonna hear
from Sark, We're gonna hear from also Rodney Terry. So
we'll do all that and more here on election Day

(09:25):
on Tuesday, and I hope it's going well for you
here right here on sports Radio AM thirteen under the
zone of the iHeartRadio app.
