Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's a brand new Monday, It's a brand new week.
It's on the verge of a brand new college football
season and a brand new number one team in the
ap Pole.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Good afternoon, everybody.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
Welcome to the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
under the Zone. My name is Craig Way. Glad to
have you with us this afternoon. The producer of the program,
Cameron D. Parker that he on the birth certificate is
for Dallas, as in his favorite pro football team. Who
got on the field on Saturday Ceedee Lamb got on
(00:33):
the field in a way that he wasn't quite planning
on Saturday. It was, after all, just a preseason game
and a preseason opener at that.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Did you get see any of it? Good afternoon, Craig.
You know I didn't watch the entire game. I'm not
a sick go okay, And if you do watch an
entire preseason game, then I'm a little worried about you.
I watched Joe Milton's first drive and saw his first
three three passes that were nearly intercepted, and thought, okay,
(01:03):
maybe maybe he's not going to save the franchise. As
every quarterback in every training camp appears to be before
they actually get into a live game, and then all
of a sudden, it's like, let's pump the breaks just
a little bit. But of course, the Cowboys were playing
your favorite team, the Los Angeles Rams. I know you
were watching, so I want to get your takes, your
(01:26):
your input on what you saw, both from Sets and
Ventett and the Rams, but also on the Cowboy side,
because you are an unbiased, unbiased I say, viewer of
the game versus you know, my my input what I saw.
Speaker 2 (01:42):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Uh, and and let me just say this, we got
a lot to get to on the program, including uh,
paying off the t's what I mentioned at the top
about the brand new AP poll preseason football poll is out,
and we're gonna run that down and talk about that.
We do have inconceivable this hour. But we've got a
lot of pro football news and college football news to
(02:06):
get to long WRNS coming off of scrimmage back on
the practice field this afternoon, and we'll get to all
of that stuff coming up.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
But to your question and the point about the and.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
I watched probably more preseason football on a given weekend
that I've watched in a while. I wanted to see
how quinn Ewers did yesterday. He didn't get protected very
well and got hit a couple of times and fumbled.
I did lead a touchdown drive, had a couple of
good thread to needle passes, and had a couple of
(02:37):
passes flat out dropped. So there was that. I watched
some of that. I watched a little bit of the
Jets and Packers on Saturday night. But yeah, I saw
a good chunk of the Cowboys in the Rams because
it was interested in both teams. Obviously, the team I
rooted for is LA, but I'm also quite keenly interested
in the Cowboys and what they do, so I did
(02:59):
at a good bit of that. It's just it did
not change my feeling or my view on preseason football
that it's just really difficult to garner a strong opinion
about how you think a team is going to do
(03:21):
during the course of the season when most of the
guys who are on the field are not going to
be on the field, or at least not for long
stretches a time, barring injury. You know, Blake cornwill play
quite a bit for the Rams this year, and he
looked good when he was out there early and was
running the ball.
Speaker 4 (03:38):
But.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
Very few people that are going to have any meaningful
stamps for them were out there for any length of
time at all, other than Cardi the kicker.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
There's just there's just not many.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
I was more concerned about how Matthew Stafford had thrown
over the weekend. Since he's had that aggravated disc thing
in his back, suposedly it's feeling a lot better. He's
been able to throw more, and they're optimistic that he
might be ready to start of the season.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Now to the Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
Again, you know, from watching Joe Milton, it's hard to
it's hard to say he made a couple of nice throws,
and he did lead them down the field on a
couple of scoring drives, and it's hard to really get
a good feel for how the Cowboy defense is going
to do. The Rams backups, I don't know. You know,
(04:31):
boyn't heard about this for some time. I don't know
if seeing one team's backups have their way or be
able to move the ball effectively or stopping defensively the
other team's backups as much of an indicator as to
what the teams are going to do during the course
of the season. So the end result of that is
(04:53):
first full weekend of the preseason. Hard to glean an
awful lot from it. We're out there watching uniforms and
there's a lot of conjecture, you know, if you watch
the telecasts, and I'm not just putting this song on
the Cowboys telecast team with Bill Jones and Isaiah stand Back.
Really like Isaiah. He's I've worked with him before in
state championship games. He's really good and he has great insight.
(05:16):
But even if you watch them, if you watched, was
it uh? Kevin Harlan was calling the Packers telecast that
that NFL Network showed against the Jets. Adam Amein was
working the Bears telecast with Stacy Dais in the booths
for the first time a woman in the booth in
(05:36):
there working the Bears Dolphins telecasts at NFL Network picked
up no matter what telecast you were watching, it almost
seemed like it was rolling conversations, like it was.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Guys doing a radio show.
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Kind of how Roger and Roger Wallas and I had
had to basically comment on what was going on in
the field in the spring game for Texas because it
was more about conversations. And by the way, here's third
down and six and Smith throws to the left.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
The balls caught, YadA, YadA, YadA.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
But I think a lot most people, most pro football fans,
get that, and they're more concerned with the storylines of
what's going to happen with their starters. There were a
lot of sideline interviews with starting players out there. And
then of course it was the sideline antic of Ceedee
(06:36):
Lamb who was running down the field all excited and
got into the white striped area and the official ran
right into him and that cost his team in penalty.
So Ceedee Lamb did get on the field Saturday.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
I hope that's not like foreshadowing what's to come this year,
because first of all, it's abductively. It's pretty funny. And
me and some other cowboy sure friends cowboy fans who
are friends of mine, we joked about it. But it's
just like, oh, boys, that's just gonna be like the
first time the Cowboys take the field of like, hey,
it's just gonna be a season where we're just gonna
get run over.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
A little worried about that, A little worried about.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
That, yeah, you know, and then and then.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
I need to stop myself.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
I start to say, I'm really surprised that ESPN would
make a big deal out of this, But they are ESPN,
and they're going to make big deals out of things
like this. This whole business of Dak Prescott out at
midfield after the game.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
Apparently I didn't even see this.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Out there after the game, and I think he saw
Stan Kronkey, the Rams owner.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
Oh okay with the Rams. Yeah, no, no, not that.
But he said to him.
Speaker 1 (07:52):
I don't know if it was a camera that callt
him in or a microphone call him and said we'll
see you in the NFC Championship. I think he said
stuff like that before, exactly Every team has guys who
say that kind of stuff. Would it be blown way
up this morning, you know, on on all the magazine shows.
Speaker 3 (08:11):
I feel like we've heard this before, and I feel
like we've had this conversation before in the years past,
and I think I said the same thing I'm about
to say now is would you rather DAC say? All right, well,
I don't think we're going to see all in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Yeah, we'll be. We'll be. I'll be can kun.
Speaker 3 (08:26):
By the time y'all are no like I want to
have a quarterback that's confident. I mean, if Tom Brady
said that, it would be like, oh yeah, look at Brady. Yeah,
go Brady. But Dak says it. It's it's more of
just uh, people like the clown you imagine like Stephen A.
Smith was clowning all over about it. He's got something
that's part of his stick is how he quote unquote
(08:49):
hates the Cowboys and all that other kind of stuff.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
So yeah, that's that's.
Speaker 1 (08:53):
And that's why I said started when I first turn
on the television this morning, I thought, really, you guys
are really getting that. I thought, wait a minute, consider
what It's a program. They're going to be in there
to entertain, so understand that. So anyway, there's there's that,
and there'll be more preseason discussion pro football stuff to
(09:15):
talk about coming up on the program this afternoon. We
do offer up our text line. If you want to
be in on the conversation. All you have to do
is text the word Texas follow by your question or
comment to eight one five three zero. Text the word
Texas follow by your question or comment eight one five
three zero. Standard messaging and data rates may apply, and
(09:38):
if you want to reach us via the talkback feature.
That's what we were doing when we were giving away
those copies of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine, and when
we do our contesting for like concert tickets and things
like that. That's how you have to access us, and
we can make it, really we can make it easier
for you. Here's what you have to do for that.
(09:59):
If you haven't already, download the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
You just download it on your phone. It's free, it's easy.
You just download that. Then you search AM thirteen hundred zone.
It'll pop right up. If you're doing a little search
microp the magnifying glass or whatever, it'll pop right up.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
And then what we're.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
Suggesting that you do is go ahead and set it
as a preset, which you can do at the top.
That makes it real easy because you'll have faster access
getting in for giveaways and concerts stuff like that. So
download the iHeartRadio app. Then you search AM thirteen under
the zone, you'll see a deal where you can preset it,
pre set it, and then there's a little red button
(10:40):
with a white microphone that's our talk back. You push
that button. You can leave us up to thirty seconds.
You can say I think Dak Prescott's full of it
and I said that that's crazy, or hey, look I'm
behind him.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
I think that's going to work.
Speaker 1 (10:53):
You can leave us up to thirty seconds on a
message if you like, But that preset thing will help
you get through our station and our programming and our contesting.
So just such a preset there when you go download
the iHeartRadio app and then search AM thirteen under the Zone. Okay,
coming up yep, brand new preseason number one for the
first time ever, it's the Texas Longhorns, number one in
(11:18):
the country to eight people will take a look at
that and more coming up here on a Monday afternoon.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
I'm thirteen Under the Zone.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
It's the Craig Way Show with the voice of the
Texas Longhorns in Hall of Fame broadcaster Craig Way.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
So we were just ruminating about the Cowboys. Why hear
it from us? Why take it from us? You can
hear from the head coach, Brian Schottenheimer. Apparently just Well
has been doing a press conference out in Oxnard, California.
We're gonna hear that coming up in the three o'clock hour,
and some of the four o'clock hour what he had
(12:03):
to say in review of that preseason opener for the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Yeah, this week, the Ravens at home. I think you're
asking the wrong person.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
No, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (12:12):
You're a Cowboy fan. You're supposed to know that. Who
they play. I'm pretty sure it's the Ravens. See they play.
I think they play the Ravens. Then the Falcons are
the last two. I think it's the Ravens this week
that they'll play at Jerry World.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
You tell me you're not going to go up there
for the preseason contest this week. You know, if I
wasn't going to be out of town, then maybe I would.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
Maybe you would, Okay, maybe you'd be doing that twenty
nine dollars party pass or whatever it costs these days
to stand in the end zone for thirty bucks.
Speaker 2 (12:47):
How long do you to send the en zone for?
Speaker 1 (12:50):
It's a it's you know they've had that deal where
Jerry did that twenty nine dollars part what was called
party pass. My brother did it a couple of times
where you can actually walk down you know how the
concourse is at Jerry where we walk all the way around.
When you walk to the end zones where a lot
of the concessions are food, beer, beverage and stuff like that.
(13:10):
It's all down there. I think it's I think it's
sponsored by Miller Light. The party pass and you go
down there. You pay twenty nine dollars. That gets you
into the stadium. You don't have a ticket to the
you don't have a seat, but it's standing. It's standings.
You can go in there for twenty nine bucks. It
used to be twenty nine. I don't know if it's
gone up, but it was. It was twenty nine dollars
(13:32):
when my brother went a couple of times, and you
could stand at the.
Speaker 2 (13:35):
End zone and you know, have access to all the
Miller Light you won't and all of that.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
You have that there too, So just just you know,
at least to be in the building, you know, if
you wanted to do that and then stand there with
a beer in your hand in the end zone for
three hours and twelve minutes or whatever, and watch it
up on the big screen because suppose there's too crowded,
you really can't see the yield the actors.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
That'd be fair. I don't know what the price is now,
but I think that would be fun. My brother did it.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
He liked it. He liked it.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Yeah, I mean it's a more reasonable thing. Okay, we
knew it was coming out today and it did. The
preseason AP Top twenty five College Football Poll is out
and for the first time in school history, just as
we set for the Coaches Poll.
Speaker 2 (14:25):
But it's this way for the AP as well.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
Texas is number one in the country, number one in
the AP preseason Top twenty five. Now there is a
difference between the AP poll and the coaches poll at
number two. Remember last week when it came out, Number
two is Ohio State, and where I said, Okay, it's
gonna be number one against number two in Columbus. Well,
(14:49):
according to the AP, when the season opens on August thirtieth,
it'll be number one against number three. Because whereas in
the coaches poll, Ohio State is number two, in Penn
State is number three. In the AP poll, it's the
other way around, flip flop them. Penn State is number
two and Ohio State's number three. In fact, this was
(15:10):
the closest balloting for number one since nineteen ninety eight
Mac Brown's first year coaching Texas. The Loghorns are number
one by a SCAMP total of five points. In the poll,
they got twenty five of the sixty five I guess
(15:32):
it is first place votes, and Penn State got twenty three,
so it was a total of fifteen hundred and fifty
two points for Texas to fifteen forty seven for Penn
State and then Ohio State was third at fourteen seventy
two on that so it's the closest preseason vote since
(15:52):
nineteen ninety eight, and the SEC has the preseason number
one team in the country for a record fifth consecutive year.
But of course the Big Ten has number two and
number three. What was Ohio State there? The Buckeyes got
eleven first place votes from that panel of sixty five
media members. Number four Clemson picked up four first place votes.
(16:15):
Number five Georgia got one Notre Dame of sixth Oregon,
which got the final first place votes. Number seven Alabama, LSU,
and Miami ran out the top ten. The SEC, which
placed nine schools in the Coaches Poll top twenty five,
has ten in the AP. That is a record most
(16:39):
ever by one conference and one more than a year
ago when he had nine. The SEC has four teams
in the top ten for the second straight year. The
Big Ten, of course, has won the last two national championships.
They have two of the top three teams in the
poll for the third straight year and six in the
top twenty five for the third year in a row.
(16:59):
Big twelve teams are ranked defending conference champion in Arizona
State is the highest at number eleven. The ACC has three,
led by Clemson, so the top twenty five is Texas,
Penn State, Ohio State, Clemson, Georgia, Notre Dame, Oregon, Alabama, LSU,
and Miami for the top ten. Arizona State is eleven,
(17:21):
in Illinois twelve, South Carolina is thirteen, Michigan fourteen, Florida fifteen,
SMU sixteen, Kansas State is seventeen. Oklahoma, which was not
ranked in the Coaches poll, is number eighteen in THEAP.
So that thing I saw a thing on Twitter week
(17:43):
ago said Oklahoma is not ranked in the is not
ranked for the first time since blah blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (17:50):
You know it was a long time ago. Well, they
are right.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
They're in the AP poll number eighteen. Texas A and
M which is number twenty one in the Coaches poll,
is nineteenth in THEAP. Indiana twentieth in the final five
in the rankings Ole, Miss, Iowa State, Texas Tech, Tennessee,
and Boise State. Boise is number twenty five in both
(18:12):
sets of rankings and the main differences. Like I said,
a foot flop at two and three Ohio State and
Penn State. Ohio State number two in the coach number
three in the AP. Penn State is number two in
the AP. Georgia's four in the coaches five in the AP.
Clemson is four and the coaches six or four in
(18:34):
the AP and six and the coaches. Notre Dame is
six in the AP five in the coaches. Oregon is
seven in both. Alabama's eight in both LSU is ninth
in both. Miami is tenth in both. Arizona State is
eleventh in both polls. Illinois twelfth and both. South Carolina
thirteen in both. Michigan fourteen in both. Florida is fifteen
(18:57):
in the AP, Ole Miss fifteen in the coaches, SMU
is sixteenth in both. Kansas State is seventeen in the AP,
Florida seventeen in the coaches, Oklahoma's eighteen in the AP.
Tennessee is eighteen in the coaches Texas A and M
nineteen in the AP, Indiana nineteen in the coaches, Indiana's
(19:20):
twenty in the AP, K State, twenty in the coaches,
Ole miss twenty one in the AP, Iowa State twenty
one in the coaches, i was State, twenty two in
the coach in the AP, and A and M twenty
one in the coaches. Texas Tech is twenty third in
the AP, b YU twenty third in the coaches, Tennessee
is twenty four in the AP, Texas Tech twenty four
in the coaches, and Boise State is twenty five in both.
(19:45):
So the others receiving votes in the AP just out
of it was BYU Utah, Baylor, Louisville, USC, Georgia Tech, Missouri, Tulane, Nebraska, UNLA, Toledo, Auburn,
and it's James Madison, Memphis, Florida State, Duke Navy, Liberty, Iowa, TCU,
Pitt Army, Louisiana, and Colorado. So anyway, the power of
(20:11):
the SEC certainly being respected with ten in the AP
nine and the coaches and two other schools Missouri and Auburn,
and the receiving votes category on that. By the way,
in case you're interested in the fcs Powl. North Dakota
State got all twenty six first place votes.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Who number one. Incarnate Word from San Antonio.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Is number four in the poll. Tarleton number eight in
the poll. So schools from Texas include and Stephen and
f Austin number twenty four in that poll. So anyway,
there's your ranking mean anything to you.
Speaker 3 (20:47):
You know, not to be like a Debbie Downery here,
but the preseason polls just it's hard to get worked
up for it because, like, honestly, like you could argue
for any of these teams in the top five and
some outside of the top five to be the number
one team in the country.
Speaker 2 (21:03):
I understand why Texas is number one. For me.
Speaker 3 (21:06):
I always looked at it as hey, whoever won the
national chances to blast like the it still runs through them,
right and in for Texas they get him in week one.
Oahow State, So it's it's a great litmus test to
see you can wear his texts that even though WIHO
State is rebuilding their offensive line d line, new coordinators,
but hey, that's that's part of college football. You got
(21:28):
to be able to adapt and be able to recover
after you lose said players and said coaches. Penn State's
returning a lot of talent. Daler's coming back. He's probably
the most experienced quarterback outside of Cape Klubnik in the
in the top ten. Mc Garrett Nesmyer there at number nine.
But LSU's you know, defense was atrocious this past year.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
They all have questions.
Speaker 3 (21:52):
Texas has questions right, very young offensive line, sure, Arch,
I mean Arch has only started in what three four
five games so for an entire season. Mentioned our radio
house State, Clemson. I think Clemson is really high up
there at four. You know, Georgia obviously they have a
wealth of talent coming back. Now what can their quarterback
position look like? Notre Dame was in the National Champs
(22:14):
to a passed year. I know they lost some talent
breaking in a new quarterback. Oregon will be very young. I
like Alabama. I think this is a big year for
Kiln de Bower. I think Alabama is going to be
very good this year. You mentioned LSU and then of
course Miami replacing cam Ward. But you know, Mario crystal
Ball is a fantastic ball coach, So all of them
have questions. I feel like in years past we kind
of had an idea like I don't think anyone disagreed
(22:37):
that Georgia was number one this past season or the
year before that. I mean, you could have made a
few other arguments, but I think it's so wide open
Craig that when the season ends, as it probably usually
is with preseason polls, it'll look so different from now
to where we are at at the end of January
when this whole thing wraps up. But for Texas Ohio
(22:58):
State week one, I mean, that'll be a great indicator.
And then you get, you know, three four weeks before
Florida comes to town, and Florida before Texas goes to Florida, Yeah,
exactly goes to Gainesville, number fifteen in the country. You know,
Florida's going to be a good test. All this to say,
I'm just not going to get too worked up over it.
I think it's awesome. If you're a Texas fan, you
(23:18):
should feel great, right excited about what Steve Sarkishan has
done and such a short amount of time, because this
is what Texas fans were hoping for right after things
went south with Mac Brown, hoping for that, with Charlie Strong,
hoping for that, with Tom Irman. Here you are with
Steve Sarkeshan. It took a few years, but Texas is
back on top, at least in the preseason. Now, just
(23:41):
got to go prove it out in the football field.
First time ever number one in the preseason. They've been
number two four times in the past, but had never
been had never been number one in the preseason, So
that's different for the Longhorns.
Speaker 1 (23:59):
And I think the last time they've been number two
was two thousand and nine. They'd never started a season
higher than number two. Five times they started number two,
sixty two, sixty five, seventy, two thousand and five, and
two thousand and nine. Two of those times, nineteen seventy
(24:22):
and two thousand and five, they ended up winning a
national championship.
Speaker 2 (24:24):
Now, in nineteen.
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Seventy, we know they were the defending national champions, went
undefeated in the regular season, had a whole bunch of
injuries going him to the Cotton Bowl, and Joe Thaisman,
a Notre Dame, beat him in the comp Bowl. But
in those days, the Coach's Poll, which was run by
the UPI, had already crowned Texas a national champion.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
When Texas lost to.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
They were number one in both polls, but ap waited
until after the ball games. They started doing that in
the mid sixties or late sixties when Texas lost Nebraska
beat ls Who in the Orange Bowl. Nebraska wound up
being number one when Texas had lost to Notre Dame
(25:07):
in the Cotton Bowl, but they did have a share
of the national of course. Two thousand and five they
wanted outright when they started the season number two. It
ended up winning the Rose Bowl over USC. In two
thousand and nine, they started number two behind Alabama and
went all the way to the championship game, Man lost
and we know how that went with Cold getting injured
and all that in two thousand and nine. So anyway,
(25:29):
that's the poll where it stands right now. And yeah,
that and six dollars and fifty cents will get you
the new Starbucks drink that my wife likes so much.
Which one is that it's one of the cold phone
brew things. It's not your col Brew, it's a different one.
(25:54):
And it was like the other day and she wanted that.
I was like, really six fifty on it, but she
got that was the tall the big one for that.
It was less than that for like the smaller size.
But yeah, anyway, point is is that it's a poll. Now,
you make a very good point about this, and I
think it's worth repeating about, you know, about whether you
get excited about the AP poll, the preseason polls going in.
(26:18):
We know the polls that matter will be the college
football the CFP rankings that start coming out in late October.
There is the considered opinion and the ardent viewpoint of
many that the College Football Playoff Committee's rankings, at least
(26:39):
early on in the rankings, are swayed and influenced by
what's happening in the national polls. The College Football Playoff
Committee says that's not true.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
It's not true.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
They're looking at all the information and what the results
are to that point and all that. But there are
many who believe that if they're looking at a poll
in October that has Texas and Ohio State and Georgia
Notre Dame and Penn State and all these in it,
that they're going to be more given over to ranking
(27:09):
those teams ahead of say some mid majors or some
other teams. Well, probably if it's because the AP is
doing it, is because they're seeing a lot of the
same things that the rest of the country is seeing
that they're really good football teams. Whether they're quote unquote
influenced by an ap ballot, I don't know about that,
but that's the opinion of some that are like that.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
We'll see.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
The Texas schedule itself will allow the long ones to
prove whether they belong in the number one spot. We'll
find out the first week, because if they lose the
first week, they're going to fall from the number one spot.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
It is possible with.
Speaker 1 (27:46):
Balloting that close, that a team could win its season
opener and then fall out of the top spot. I
don't think that'll happen to Texas, regardless of the what
the margin is of the score. If they beat Ohio State,
if it's three to nothing or three to two, and
Texas wins the game, they'll still be number one because
(28:06):
they went to the Horseshoe in one. They'll hold on
to the number one spot regardless of what Penn State
does in its season opener. And that's, you know, and
that's simply because of who you're playing, and I think
that's I think that's a big.
Speaker 2 (28:23):
Part of it.
Speaker 1 (28:24):
So Penn State when it goes into its season opener,
the nintee Lions will be playing Nevada and at home,
and if they beat Jeff Choate's team and probably handily
as they are expected to, and Texas wins a very
very close game, whether it's low scoring, high scoring, middle scoring,
(28:45):
whatever it is. If Texas beats Ohio State and Columbus,
Texas will still be number one. That's just the way
it'll be, regardless.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
And before the horse here, but you know, looking at
if Texas bets Ohio State on the record, I think
Texas wins their next three games.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Gonna put that out there. So you're four and oh.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
Going out on the limb, the limb drinking wins over
San Jose State, UTEP and Sam Houston.
Speaker 3 (29:07):
You're four and oh and you're heading into Gainesville, Florida.
If Florida's undefeated, that includes wins at LSU, who is
number nine, and then a win at Miami who is
number ten. Right, yeah, so Florida would catapult, I would
think into the top five and they pick up to
top ten wins all of a sudden, that showdown there
(29:30):
looks very interesting. Top five, top five in Gainesville. But
again that's October. We're still in we're still in August here,
no doubt about it.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
All right.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
Up next we bring in Conceivable on a Monday afternoon
here on thirteen under the zone.
Speaker 2 (29:44):
Glad to have you with us.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
I said that my wife Linda sent a picture of
that espresso shaken espresso thing, the venti one, the seven
dollars and fifty eight cent one, that one with the
cold foam. She sent a picture of it. Who said,
it's my favorite ride now. So now that's different than
for forever. And I imagine when we get back to the
coal month she'll be on board with the See if
(30:05):
I remember this triple grande non fat, two raw sugar latte,
three shots of espresso, the triple Grande in a grande cup,
non fat milk, two raw.
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Sugars in that.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
That that was That was her, as they like to say,
ride or dialogue times. She said this is my favorite
ride now. She did said I did order it today
without the cold foam, and it's still very good, you know.
So that's so that would make it about six dollars
and thirty cents instead of seven something like that is
(30:40):
what it would what it would be if it were,
If it were that ce.
Speaker 3 (30:45):
Be reminding us that the Pumpkins Spice latte returns August
twenty six at Starbucks.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Yeah, and I would tell you, and CB, I would
tell you as well that I would alert my oldest
daughter to it, except I know she's already on it.
She is a freak about all things pumpkin spice, is
my oldest daughter, Hayley. She's maybe having four kids has
(31:11):
had that effect.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Now.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
She's always like that. He's always she's now that I
think about it, he's always been on board with that.
But anyway, Yeah, so the Starbucks things are part and
parcel of all of this. The second number of the
program here coming up in a few minutes, we're going
to hear some of Brian Schottenheimer's press commerce when he's
talking about the recap of the Cowboys game against the Rams.
(31:36):
Anything else jump off the page at you. One one
performance and specific jumped off the page at me from
the weekend of the preseason, not just Cowboys Rams, but
the entire preseason.
Speaker 3 (31:49):
I think the basic answer and the go to answer
for a lot of people, and I think it's rightfully
so is George Sanders yep in Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (31:55):
Yep, and very solid outing I would say even beyond South. Yeah. Yeah,
he was good.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
And to his credit, he didn't he didn't come in
and say anything like I'm legendary or anything like that.
He said, I got some work to do, but I
think I can be better, and I think I get
He said, he said all the right things, which hasn't
always been that family strong suit. Yeah, if we're being
completely honest, it's not been. Their biggest strength is saying
(32:26):
the right thing. But having said that, he went out
he performed very well. I think Adam Schefter said that
he thought if he continued on this upward trend that
he's doing, that it would be very difficult for the Browns.
I'm not he wasn't saying it would be very difficult
(32:47):
for the Browns to name in the number one the
starting quarterback.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
He didn't say that.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
What he said was it'd be very difficult to imagine
the Browns not getting him on the field and getting
him some reps and getting him some action in the
right season. Off that and and that's a big aff
if he continues the upward trend. But it was pretty
impressive to see who else was impressive with Jackson Dark
had had good numbers for the Giants when he when
(33:12):
he was out there, So we saw some young guys
have some moments out there on the field, and and
that's kind of what the preseason is all about anyway,
is just seeing what some of these guys can do.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Yeah, I think, like you know, the other side of
that is, yeah, I mean mister Whisky also looked great.
Is Trubisky going to be a Hall of Fame player? No,
it's the preseason football, So you know, there is there's
definitely two sides of it. For every s door Sanders,
there is a quin yours and I think you know,
(33:47):
third strand offensive line that wasn't blocking at all. I
think I could have done a of a left tackle
compared to what he had blocking form in that preseason game.
So it goes both ways, and a lot of the
times it doesn't really matter because you're going up against
the two and the threes in the fours. I mean
a lot of these guys who they played against this
(34:07):
past weekend will not be in the league in one month,
will not be on a roster in one month.
Speaker 2 (34:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:12):
Yeah, you want another quarterback who had his struggles a rookie, uh,
which one yesterday Tyler Schuck. Oh.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Yeah, for the Saints he.
Speaker 1 (34:23):
Threw a pick six and then threw another pick to
the same guy. I think for the Chargers it was
a rough, rough go for him. Uh and Chuck was
was he a first round pick or a second no,
second round pick.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
I think he may have been a first round Yeah,
he went he went high. I know that second round
he was second round.
Speaker 3 (34:42):
Second round, Okay, so four youth pick overall, so early
second round.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
I mean, folks can say what they wont about Quinn.
He was taken in the seventh round, so I mean
it was low risk for Mike McDaniels in the in
the Miami Dolphins certainly, and he fits the system well.
But we'll see how it does.
Speaker 2 (34:56):
Overall.
Speaker 1 (34:56):
I think Zach Wilson is probably going to wind up
being the number two guy there behind to it too.
It did get to play and had some moments, yeah,
in the in the game. So Bears held Caleb Williams
out of the game, you expect that they had agent
playing again. He did, He had he had some reps
(35:18):
out there. Yeah, the way they you know, other than
seeing some of the young guys and how they did,
I don't know, you know, I don't know. I don't
know what we were looking if if if you were
looking for anything beyond that, you were probably going to
be disappointed because it was, after all, the first full weekend.
(35:40):
I think what it does demonstrate is the excitement folks
have for the NFL preseason. People went searching for games
and my brothers going, hey, what what channel is such.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
And such a game on? I said, well, the Chiefs Cardinals.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
Was on.
Speaker 2 (35:57):
Was was on.
Speaker 1 (35:58):
An alternate for NFL Network, which you weren't going to
get it unless you were in the Jets and Packers market.
So that's just, you know, that's just how that works.
The NFL Network trumpets the fact that they have every
preseason game, true, but I think only a handful of
them are live, like maybe one or two on Thursday
(36:22):
or one Thursday, a couple of Friday, maybe three games
on Saturday.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
They did have three.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
They had Giants bills, they had well, they had Texans vikings,
but of course we get Texans vikings here, we get
the Texans telecast feed, which kx AN is the affiliate of.
And then Saturday night they had Jets Packers. Meanwhile, Cowboys
Cowboys rams were on k x AN Texans. I think
we're on Kyview, but anyway, you can see both of
(36:51):
the teams in Texas locally on their preseason packages, and
then those that aren't are on the NFL Network. So
it was a great deal of you know, hey, where
can I find this? Where can I find that? This
piggybacking the announcement on Friday about ESPN garnering the rights
(37:11):
to NFL Network, their big purchase of that and red
Zone and the fantasy sites and all that other kind
of thing. So there's a lot of excitement about that,
and there's also consternation about I had somebody text me
this morning and say, hey, my kid's a Vikings fan,
and I was thinking about purchasing NFL Sunday ticket.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
I know you had it a long time. Is it
worth it? YadA YadA.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
And my response to him was I had it for
twenty four years, mainly to watch a lot of sub
five hundred rams football for a long time, and when
they finally got good and they won the Super Bowl,
I actually started thinking about getting rid of it. And
my son said, what kind of sense does that make?
(37:58):
You watch them all those years when we were arable
pay for it now they're good. My response was, yeah,
but they're now that they're good. They're on National TV
a lot, so I really don't need it, but okay, okay.
I kept it one more year and then when it
went to YouTube TV, I was out because I'm a
DirecTV guy. I don't know that that'll be forever because
it's probably offering less to me than I really need anymore.
(38:19):
And I can get some of the other packages, like
the MLB Extra Innings package or NBA. I even had
the NHL package so I could watch a lot of
different a lot of different games.
Speaker 2 (38:29):
You know, you can get that.
Speaker 1 (38:31):
You can get those packages independent of having say a
one specific cable or satellite service. But the NFL Sunday
Ticket is a YouTube TV thing.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
You have to have that.
Speaker 1 (38:44):
Apparently they're running a deal right now.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Do you have YouTube TV?
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Yes, yeah, apparently they're running a deal right now where
you can get NFL Sunday Ticket if you have YouTube
TV and the subscription. And I don't, but apparently if
you have that, they're running some sort of a deal.
And that's what this guy that his kid was the
Vikings Fani was telling me about that.
Speaker 3 (39:05):
You can get it for like two hundred and thirty
four dollars for the year something like that. Now we've
only just done Red Zone. I have never done it
for Sunday too well.
Speaker 1 (39:14):
In my usual go around the garage to get to
the bar and way of answering things. When I told
him that, I said, I do miss NFL Sunday ticket
having it, but only slightly because I have Red Zone,
and then usually the late afternoon window gets me pretty
much there with what I need to see from the
(39:34):
Rams Dad in their national package anyway, when they're nationally televised.
So I missed it a little, but not a lot.
The Red Zone drives my wife crazy, you know, like
it Yeah, well, she goes. I just I get used
to seeing two teams and boom and it's gone, and
then it's two teams. Like am I still watching the
same two teams? And it went to another and it
went to another. Scott Hansen makes her crazy because he
(39:57):
goes so fast and he jumps and blah blah blah.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
He's pretty talented, he's really good. He's really good at it.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
But I could see where it might be very automically
autosensory to you with what you're watching and listening to
it could kind of be kind of nuts. But apparently
YouTube TV subscribers, you can get it right now for
like two hundred and thirty four bucks to get all
of them. But your team and your dad's team, you
(40:23):
don't even need it for that because you're always going
to see the Cowboys always. You didn't have to worry
about it like they do in the Metroplex the old
blackout rule where if it wasn't sold out seventy two
hours in advance, the thing would be blacked out. When
I first got out down to Texas, I was like, really,
because there was no NFL teams as you know, in
North Carolina at the time, so we watched whatever he
got now.
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Up in Greensboro, we got a lot of Washington games
back in the day.
Speaker 1 (40:47):
We were not in Atlanta market and they weren't very good,
and Washington was pretty good in the seventy so got
a lot of Washington games. But you know, that was like, really,
you can actually have games blacked out. And so people
heard all the stories about people having the big TV
antennas on top of their house so they can pick
up the Sherman CBS affiliate to watch the Cowboys there
(41:08):
because if you're seventy five miles out then you could
see it, or Waco if you live down south and
cheot it that way because Waco's one hundred miles from Dallas.
That's how they would watch the Cowboys a lot of times.
So you know, anyway, that's that's how some of that
has gone over the years.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
But apparently that's a deal that they're doing right now.
Speaker 1 (41:32):
If you're a Sunday ticket, if you're a YouTube TV subscriber,
All right, coming up, we're gonna hear speaking of the
NFL from Ryan Shotaber, the Cowboys head coach when we
continue on thirteen.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
Under the Zone.
Speaker 4 (41:43):
Welcome back to the Craig Wait Show and the Voice
of the Longhorns Craig Way. Follow Craig on social media
at Horn Voice.
Speaker 1 (41:57):
On our text line cutle offerings there. Somebody said, you know,
somebody talking about Shudar Sanders said, probably won't last long
doing a Frian targeted impersonation.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Of course, people probably said.
Speaker 1 (42:09):
Fran target it wouldn't last long doing is Sid Luckman
and impersonation?
Speaker 2 (42:13):
Google Sid Luckman if you've never heard of him. He
was one of.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
The earlier Real Mobile quarterbacks of the Chicago Bears teams
of the nineteen forties there, and it's a good point.
I think Norm van Brocklem when Fran target and was
drafted by the Vikings as an expansion team in nineteen
sixty one, Van Brocklin was the coach and he did
not want him running, and that ran its course in
about five years. And then he Fran Targeted want it out,
(42:37):
and they traded into the Giants, and they ultimately wound
his way back to the Vikings. We had some good
years and got him to three Super Bowls. They lost
all three, but he got him there to the Super Bowls.
But yeah, people said that I didn't think Shoudar Sanders
ran an inordinate amount of times, but when he did,
he was effective in the game. So we'll see, you
(42:58):
know how it will be. Longman said, Hey, Holly grow
on ESPN that they came up with the best saying.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
Everyone has quote Arch Madness.
Speaker 1 (43:07):
Uh, you know, that's the name of the Missouri Valley
Conference basketball tournament every year because it's in Saint Louis
where the Gateway arches, they call it Arch Madness.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 1 (43:19):
And then to my point about how the blackout in
the in the Dallas Forward Metroplex, somebody said, yeah, people
get a hotel room elsewhere to watch a game.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
That happened too.
Speaker 1 (43:30):
Yeah, they would go up to Sherman and get a
room with the Motel six or whatever just to watch
the Cowboys game, or go down to Waco whatever in
state of the old Alaco Motel, you know, or whatever,
just to just to be able to watch a game,
go out to where they could pick up the Abolene
TV station or which Tell Falls or Tyler even to
(43:53):
be able to be able to do that. In the
seventies and eighties, I remember that well, being there in
the metro Lex, and if the Cowboys weren't sold out
seventy tens and it'd be a big thing if somebody
stepped up and bought up the remaining four thousand tickets
like the TV station, because they wanted to show the
game and they knew the ratings would be through the
roof and the local ad revenues would be very nice
(44:16):
as well, so they they would offset the cost to
buying the last three thousand or four thousand tickets and
then they would distribute into charity or something like that
would be a nice gesture there. So yeah, that's that's
how it was back in the day with that the
thing that used to get me.
Speaker 2 (44:32):
All the time.
Speaker 1 (44:33):
And I think this is still the rule if there's
somebody in the metroplex listening. Now, let me know this
for many years anyway. And first of all, this goes
way on back, you know, back in the when the
NFL started having games nationally televised by CBS in the sixties,
and the AFL games were first on ABC and then
(44:55):
by NBC starting in the middle sixties and on into
the on end of those days, they used to have
a blackout rule that even if your game was sold out,
they would black it out in your market, which is crazy,
that's crazy. There's people I've read stuff about people having
(45:16):
to watch or not having to listen to the nineteen
sixty four NFL Championship game between the Browns and the
Colts on radio because they weren't allowed to watch it
because of the blackout rule, even though the game was
a sellout. Even though it was a sellout, they finally
adjusted and tech shrim by the way, was one of
(45:36):
those at the forefront of that when he was president
general manager of the Cowboys.
Speaker 2 (45:40):
He was on the competition.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
Committee and said, if the game is sold out in
a time, people should be able to watch it in
town because he ain't get a ticket. So the owners agreed,
and they finally did that with a TV committee and
the competition committee and all that. But it was a
seventy two hour. Seventy two hour rule had to be
sold out seventy two hours in advance for you to
(46:03):
be able to watch that. So that, yeah, there was
there was that rule where but now this one rule
continued and all the way up through you know, I
think a few years ago, and it may still be.
Speaker 2 (46:17):
This may still be in effect. And I find this
rule silly and stupid too.
Speaker 1 (46:23):
If you are in the market of an NFL team
in the televised market save for Dallas.
Speaker 2 (46:28):
For a worth of the Cowboys, or Houston for the Texans, wherever.
Speaker 1 (46:32):
You were not allowed to get more than if your
team was playing in one of the double header games.
You're not allowed to get more than two games that week,
one on one network, one on the other. You couldn't
get the double header. Let's say the Cowboys had a
rare or had a or had a noon, had a
(46:53):
three twenty five game, and it was gonna be televised
by Fox. You could not watch a double head on
CBS of the AFC.
Speaker 2 (47:02):
You would only get the early game.
Speaker 1 (47:04):
You wouldn't get the late game going up against the Cowboys,
and a lot of people quite frankly, you know, didn't
care to watch the Cowboys game. They wanted to watch
like some big Maybe there was a big, high profile game. Say,
you know, the Bills are playing the Chiefs, but it's
on at the same time as the Cowboys playing the Falcons,
and it's a late afternoon game. You wouldn't get to
(47:24):
see that if you were in that NFL market. And
that might still be the case. I'm not sure about that.
If somebody knows about that thing, let us know. Speaking
of the Cowboys, let's hear part of this and we'll
hear some next hour as well. This is in review
of the Cowboys preseason opening loss to the Rams on
Saturday evening.
Speaker 2 (47:42):
Here's Brian Schottenheim, or the head coach.
Speaker 5 (47:52):
Play Thomas and Tallibooger snap had ten stats.
Speaker 6 (48:00):
Yeah, well, part of the issue with they was we
didn't have many snaps in the first quarter. As you
guys know from watching the game. We didn't start very
fast as a football team. But again, you know, we're
gonna go through those Calvin here in the next couple
of days and have a plan. What I would say
to you guys, the biggest thing for us and I'm
excited about, is we've got two padded practice on Tuesday, Wednesday,
a little practice before we get out of here on Thursday.
(48:22):
So we got a little heavy lifting this week, which
is gonna be great and we need it.
Speaker 1 (48:26):
Describe to the theory that young offensive lineman knee snacks
not so much in practice but in live games before
it started the regular season.
Speaker 6 (48:35):
Yeah, I think they have to play some. I think
what's the magic number. I don't think that there is
a magic number. I think we get some great work
against our guys every day. But you know, I do
think that they need to play some. I think most
young players need to play some. And I think you'll
see that when you watch this lineup against Baltimore this week.
Speaker 2 (48:53):
So DLS Cowboys, I know, as we always say, you
go to do to this.
Speaker 5 (48:59):
Team, were as badness. What was your assessment of the
pre game after watching the game.
Speaker 6 (49:05):
Yeah, I think you know, I just went through this
for the team. So it's obviously, you know, pretty fresh
in my mind. I think, you know, we didn't start
very fast, you know, and think you know the defense,
the Rams won the toss, they accepted the ball, they
went right down the field. We got to get better
of getting off the field third and fourth down, and
we weren't great with that. I think, you know, the
offense obviously, uh you know, through it six straight times,
(49:27):
and we wanted to sling it around a little bit
with with Joe, but again, you know, we got to
win first and second down. I think that was a
big part of it. I did not like our discipline,
you know, the penalties with the offense, six pre snap penalties.
Speaker 2 (49:40):
That wasn't great.
Speaker 6 (49:40):
Some of the sideline substitution wasn't very clean. And then
you know, the thing I talked to the guys about
is seasy momentum as you go through the preseason games
when you know you obviously want to win, but it
doesn't go against your record when you lose or if
you win, but you have to learn how to how
to grab moment And there was a couple opportunities in
(50:01):
that second half where I felt like we had a
chance to grab momentum and Clarence, we really didn't do it. So,
you know, we turned the ball over and then goes
out there, he makes a great interception, We get the
ball back. You know, we miss a deep cross and
we go three and out. Well, they should have lost
opportunity for momentum. Then on the other end of it,
you know, we drive down the field, put together a
(50:22):
nice drive late in the early in the fourth quarter,
score a touchdown and make it a twenty four to
fourteen game.
Speaker 2 (50:28):
And the defense goes out.
Speaker 6 (50:30):
There and allows a five or six play touchdown drive.
Like momentum swings in the National Football League and in
competitive sports is huge, and our guys need to understand
how to maximize those opportunities because so much can be
gained from swings and momentum and things like that. So
I thought the guys played really, really hard.
Speaker 2 (50:49):
They really did.
Speaker 6 (50:49):
They competed hard, you know, for sixty minutes and definitely
a lot of things to clean up. But we spend
a lot of time today on the things that we
need to improve, which which I hit most those as
a general team.
Speaker 5 (51:01):
Talk about substitutions, Do you take that personally?
Speaker 6 (51:06):
Of course, yeah, I mean like to have six pre
snap penalties on the offense.
Speaker 2 (51:11):
Is is is is awful, It's awful going to be accepted, Like,
we're not going to allow that to happen.
Speaker 6 (51:16):
We told the guys today, if you're gonna commit pre
snap penalties, which means I can't line up the right
way as an offensive lineman, I shaved my motions, and
you know we're not gonna play you. Why because why
would you put yourself at a disadvantage and say, hey,
I'm gonna cost myself five yards here and next?
Speaker 2 (51:31):
Again, the officials did a good job.
Speaker 6 (51:33):
They were trying to warn us, and so we went
back and we've defined again second time to define the
way we talk about our offensive lineman alignment, level one,
level two, all those things. But uh yeah, if we're
not a disciplined football team that starts with me as
a head coach and the coaching staff, you're not gonna tolerated.
Speaker 5 (51:50):
How do you how did that manifest this? What does
it look like? Guys?
Speaker 6 (51:54):
Don't play doesn't mean if CD shaves, I'm taking them
out forever. Yeah, I mean, let's be very straight about that. CD,
don't shave. Wherever you are, don't shave. But if it's
a consistent habit, and they keep doing it and you're
trying to correct it, and it doesn't get taken care of,
then they don't understand or they're just kind of saying
they don't see the importance of it. And my job
(52:16):
and the coach's job is to make sure they understand
the importance of playing with discipline, because why are you
going to give up three yards? And I think of
the six two I know for sure maybe three. We're
in the red zone and it's like, okay, why are
we oer for two in the first half? Score and
touchdowns in the red zone? Offensively, well, we get down
in there and we push ourselves back. So that was
definitely addressed.
Speaker 5 (52:38):
Ryan Todd our.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
Through the ESBN and he told us last week that
after the game, you'll start thinking about the fifty.
Speaker 5 (52:42):
Three with the group of things. Is it a worry
your cornerback spot.
Speaker 6 (52:47):
Well, I wouldn't say Todd that that. I think we
start thinking about the fifty three. I think we got
a long way to go on this thing. I think
what I meant, or what should have been taken, was
we're moving guys around on.
Speaker 2 (52:58):
The depth chart of the fact that we've got.
Speaker 6 (53:01):
Again to physical padded practices coming up this week. We
you know, we've got another one on Thursday. We play
a very physical team on Saturday against Baltimore at home
home opener, which should be a blast. But you know,
it's premature for us to start thinking about the fifty
three man roster. I'll get to your question, but like
to me, that's what this is about. The part of
(53:22):
the process right now is Okay, these guys played well,
this guy needs to get more reps.
Speaker 2 (53:26):
This guy gets a little bit less reps.
Speaker 6 (53:27):
We communicate that to them, Hey, here's why you're getting
less reps.
Speaker 2 (53:30):
It's because of X y Z. It's not a.
Speaker 6 (53:33):
Punishment and said, hey, maybe this guy's doing better than you,
or maybe you didn't play very well, and that's why.
But in terms of the cornerback depth, I think, you know,
we're getting guys reps that need it. I thought, you know,
a guy like Booth, you know, did some good things.
You know, is made a beautiful interception. And I do
think that we have some guys that hopefully will be
back sooner than later. But right now, we're still in
(53:53):
the process of competing every day.
Speaker 1 (53:56):
Micah.
Speaker 7 (53:57):
As you get it later days out here, you guys
challenge them to make sure he stayed on top of.
Speaker 5 (54:03):
It when he's not practiced.
Speaker 2 (54:04):
Yeah. Again, it's the meetings, it's to talk through.
Speaker 6 (54:06):
It's all those things that you know we've we've already
addressed and uhah micah uh knows the importance of having
his mind ready to roll.
Speaker 3 (54:15):
Letty give any update.
Speaker 5 (54:17):
I'm capable at miles standards.
Speaker 2 (54:18):
Just gonna what's going on.
Speaker 6 (54:20):
Yeah, I think I think they're both gonna start doing
something this week. John, You know, I'll figure it out
when I get in there after we have this meeting here.
Speaker 2 (54:27):
Today's kind of a lighter day.
Speaker 6 (54:28):
Today's stay program where we're taking care of their bodies
a little bit so that guys that buys guys that
are coming off bumps and bruises to kind of get
back healthy. And we'll do a mock a little bit
later tonight. But I think both those guys we should
see some significant progress with them this week. And we'll see,
but hopefully they can both play in the game. J Yeah,
(54:49):
same thing. He's fine.
Speaker 5 (54:53):
Nick Harens.
Speaker 7 (54:53):
Before starts uning around your philosophy when it comes.
Speaker 2 (54:56):
To these howghly contested position battles.
Speaker 7 (54:58):
Do you see more value when it comes to preseason
kind of getting these guys a full game of reps?
Or is it, you know, do you see value at
bursts of reps if that makes sense.
Speaker 6 (55:07):
Or is it kind of a position I think it's
a position by position. We're thin at some spots, so
guys have to play more. If you lose a guy
or two during the game, guys have to kind of
go go back in. But again, the preseason games are
one part of the evaluation. Again, I've said it a
thousand times. We can get a lot out of practice,
(55:27):
and if we practice the right way, which we do,
we'll get a lot out of that.
Speaker 2 (55:31):
And so the philosophy is.
Speaker 6 (55:33):
More of it's a combination, you know, And it's based
a little bit on Okay, we need to see you
play more football.
Speaker 2 (55:38):
You haven't played a whole lot of football.
Speaker 6 (55:40):
Sometimes it's like, hey, I want this guy to get
a little bit more seasoning on some things, so we're
going to hold him until maybe preseason game two and
then unleash him. So it's not these are long discussions
that we have kind of at length and discuss a
lot of the potential. What about this what about that, And.
Speaker 2 (55:58):
It's kind of a fun part of the process.
Speaker 6 (56:00):
And what you really want to do is kind of
give the guys an understanding, because the worst thing to
do for a player, say hey, you're going to play
fifteen plays and then all of a sudden you got
to put them back in the game in the third
or fourth quarter because they're not ready for that. So
we try to communicate to it and then we stay
pretty true to script. What's been your evaluation to this, Yeah,
I think you know, we played a little bit. You know, well,
(56:21):
number one, we didn't tackle very well on defense. We're
going to get back to doing a lot of tackling drills.
I've talked to Flus about that. Replace some of the
ball drills. We've been doing ball disruption drills. Just the
hamstring tackles not where it needs to be. We're getting
guys on the ground, Nick, but we're getting knocked back
instead of knocking them back. The technique that we teach
is basically, you want to run through contact three hard steps,
(56:42):
so you knock the guy in the opposite direction.
Speaker 2 (56:45):
And right now we're absorbing too much. So that's the
first thing.
Speaker 6 (56:48):
And then again we're not doing a lot from a
front standpoint, but we can play lower definitely upfront. And
you know, the Rams did a good job. They they
they screwed up our run fits from time to time
with some of the misdirection and things like that. Some
of its young players, you know, playing a lot of football,
which I think you'll see more ops for the young
guys in this week's practice and in this week's game,
(57:10):
just because they got to play, and they're talented guys,
but they got to make mistakes and they're gonna make
mistakes and that's part of it. So you know, I
think at the end of the day, you know, we
were good against the run of the first half. We
really were three point one, and then the second half
it got away from us and they really weren't doing much.
They were just running duo downhill duo, and we didn't hold.
Speaker 2 (57:30):
Up very well.
Speaker 6 (57:32):
Charles, Yeah, again, I think, you know, I'll get more information. Again,
I don't think it's too serious, but again he's one
that we're finishing up some more testing on.
Speaker 1 (57:41):
All right, there is some from Brian Schottenheimer, the Cowboys
head coach. Will hear more from Shoddy next tour get
some college football stuff.
Speaker 2 (57:49):
To get to next on thirteen under the zone back
to the Craig Way Show.
Speaker 4 (57:55):
Connect with Craig through the text line by text team
zone to age one, five three zero, followed by your message.
Speaker 2 (58:02):
Standard message and data rates may apply.
Speaker 1 (58:05):
Okay, we brought you some of this sound from Brian Chott.
I'm here in the first hour of or excuse me,
last hour, second hour of the program, coming off the
Cowboys preseason opening loss to the Los Angeles ramsay of
the Baltimore Ravens at home this week, let's hear the
back half of this more from today's media availability with
Brian Chott.
Speaker 5 (58:25):
Emmer tom our spous Cowboys dot Com. Going back to
talking about momentum, how do you handle this momentum as
a play call where if you feel like it's on
your side, do you make you try to get a
bit more aggressive? Do you try to stay rouble the
whole time?
Speaker 6 (58:39):
How does that fluctuate throughout a game and kind of
determine where you want to go off? Yeah, you're definitely, Tommy.
You're reading the game all the time, you know, I mean,
you've got kind of a plan of philosophy of who
you're playing. Okay, but when you get a chance to
seize momentum. Man, you have to you know, like I
really think it would have been great to see, you know,
if we hit flow on the deep cross, you know,
after the interception, what that would have played out. I
thought the defense was great at stepping up after the
(58:59):
inner option. You call it sudden change. They got to
go back out there and they get the ball back
for you. But it's it's kind of a feel for
the game. It's the time of the game, it's the
situation of the game. It's the score of the game.
It's it's all those things. And but I'll say this,
it's a very very powerful thing when it comes to
competitive sports, and definitely football.
Speaker 5 (59:23):
Did you make of that being considering they were probably
the two biggest steps got in.
Speaker 6 (59:27):
One, Yeah, I mean again, they played basically a full game.
Like you said, I thought they both did.
Speaker 2 (59:31):
A nice job.
Speaker 6 (59:32):
They were a big part of us having success running
the football. I thought the pass protection was good. We
gave up the one sack we got edged on the
right side.
Speaker 2 (59:39):
One time.
Speaker 6 (59:40):
I would say this, you know, TJ, you know, as
a as a guard, looked terrific. We want to see
him play a little bit more center, So we're gonna
play him some MORET center this week. You know, he
was a little bit late with a snap or two
in the red zone. It actually got loud down there
in the red zone, uh late in the game, so
we had to go to silent count. But they're both
(01:00:00):
playing really well right now in the flex. For TJ
to have to go in there and do that, I
thought he did a really good job for his first game.
But we're gonna get him quite a bit more work
at center so he's a little bit more comfortable in there.
Speaker 5 (01:00:12):
Joe Boyd Dallas More News. Joe Gilson kind of talked
about how he came out a little overhype.
Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
You kind of talked about him soul learning came a
little bit as a play caller.
Speaker 4 (01:00:19):
Is there a way as a play caller you can
kind of curate calmness with the quarterback?
Speaker 2 (01:00:23):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 6 (01:00:23):
And we actually talked about that with the quarterbacks and
it was just good, you know, hey, how can I
help you?
Speaker 2 (01:00:27):
He was he was revbed up.
Speaker 6 (01:00:29):
A lot of those guys get revveed up first preseason game,
want to go and set the world on fire.
Speaker 2 (01:00:33):
And it's it's not about that.
Speaker 6 (01:00:35):
You know, and that's that goes for play callers too,
like hey, let's you know, you know, let's let's go
put fifty on these guys. It's like, no, not that.
But I think, you know, he settled down and he
found his rhythm and I kind of went over there
and joked with him on a couple of things and
in the second half and that, you know, talking to him,
it kind of settled him down a little bit. And
I think that's part of the relationship. And that's why
(01:00:56):
you guys always ask about, you know, the relationship with
me and Dak, and you know, Joe's an incredible competitor
and you know, such a bright future. But I'm still
learning him different than Dak and how to communicate with him.
And it's really good meetings today with the guys wide receiver.
What are you hoping to see it a jail And
(01:01:16):
as the rest of them, well, I think, you know,
JT's a guy that I like to challenge because I
know anytime I challenge him, he steps up and accepts
the challenge. I had a great punk return, got called
back as a penalty twenty something yard punk return. That
was cool to see, you know. I think the consistency
of it. I mean anytime a guy comes out of
the season off a season where he has seven touchdown passes,
(01:01:37):
leads the team, I mean, he's he's.
Speaker 2 (01:01:39):
Just a guy that's going to always do right.
Speaker 6 (01:01:40):
He's gonna block, he's so selfless and such just a
great teammate. And it's no surprise he was really trained
by Brandon Cooks because in reality, that's what be Cooks is.
And it's just like the consistency that those guys play
at and how they help you win. Sometimes it's not
in the stat book or the stat line, it's just
they do plays four five six a game, like whether
it's a block, whether it's a cover down, whether it's
(01:02:02):
a catch on a third down conversion, and you go, man,
we probably don't win the game if it wasn't for
that play by JT.
Speaker 5 (01:02:11):
The fan Brian, So to go back to Friday, typically
that's a beanie day. You don't see what the other
team is doing. If you guys had a hard practice
but started you just not like the day of three
days off for those guys in four.
Speaker 2 (01:02:26):
Really, yeah, that's exactly what it is, babe. I mean literally.
Speaker 6 (01:02:30):
Thinking back last couple of years, with the AAR. What
happens is if you do the beanie day on Friday
and your vets don't play, so Friday they kind of
get it off. They don't play Saturday, the mandatory day
office Sunday. Today they come back in and you can't
practice because the guys played in the game are sore,
and you wouldn't do that. So the next thing you know,
(01:02:50):
you're four days of not doing anything. And I don't
believe that that's the best way you get It's too long.
It's too long a period for these guys to not
be playing football. How do you get good a football?
You play football. And so the way we structured the
practice schedules, the guys not playing in the game or
limited in the game, they got twenty four reps and
the guys that were going to play quite a bit
in the game got twelve reps.
Speaker 2 (01:03:10):
And so I think that's very manageable. I think the
guys worked hard.
Speaker 6 (01:03:13):
I challenged him to work hard, and that's the formula
we'll keep going with.
Speaker 5 (01:03:19):
Right, Brad Sham couples ready to win up by three
as the fan is not the backup quarterback. From the
standpoint of I know Cooper rush last year.
Speaker 8 (01:03:33):
Didn't He probably heard it that he didn't get to
play more White While you were looking at.
Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
The Lance, what you saw a career in the other night?
Speaker 5 (01:03:41):
Would you know again when the four did you earn
more playing time? And pre season? How do you do?
Speaker 2 (01:03:47):
Yeah? I think you know.
Speaker 6 (01:03:48):
Our plan all along has been that we we need
to find out about Joe Milton. And again, under no
circumstance do I am I panicked or worried about Joe Milton.
Joe Milton played really well in the second half. He
did some really good things. He calmed down, he figured
it out. But I'd be crazy if I didn't say,
you know, how impressed them with Will Greer. I mean,
all the guy does is when given opportunities, And like
(01:04:08):
I said, we communicate very clearly with our players. So
like the scrimmage against the Rams, we told them, hey, man,
a bunch of drink some water and hang out, and
next thing you know, he's in the game, you know.
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
And did a great job. Same thing this game.
Speaker 6 (01:04:20):
Will wasn't planning on playing very much, if at all,
and next thing you know, he's got to go in
a couple shoulder shrugs and away he goes and you know,
uses his feet, little friend Tarkentin, little ball fake and
all that stuff. But again, you know, Brad, we're gonna
let these guys all compete. And it's it's not a
negative against Will Greer that he's not getting the reps.
I've been around Will gear for a couple of years now.
(01:04:42):
You know, we know who Will Gear is. We are
not surprised when he goes in and does that. It's
figuring out more than Joe Milton. It's the unknown, more
than the than the competition.
Speaker 8 (01:04:52):
Here here putel CBS Sports Brian on Saturday, you talked
about being up there as an NFL head, coached your
dream and a couple of times off he's and you
mentioned Bill Kauer. How instrumental is Bill Cower Ben and
you getting to this chair you're in now, and how
would you describe the role he plays in your life,
both personally and professional.
Speaker 6 (01:05:09):
Yeah, I mean he's a family friend, longtime family friend.
You know, he and my dad were very very close.
He looked up to my father as a mentor. And
you know, I try to use Bill any chance I get,
you know, I just I appreciate him. I love the
way his team's played. You know, his teams were very,
very physical. His teams were great at taking the football away.
(01:05:29):
A lot of things that we believe in it that
I believe in come from Marty Schottenheimer, Bill Kauer, winning
the line of scrimmage, be multiple all those things. And
you know, it's not like we talk every week, but
he's definitely someone I know that when I have questions
or issues or something that maybe I would have reached
out to my dad or somebody else, I like to
go back and get somebody like that, a Super Bowl
(01:05:51):
champion head coach that's been through the fires, and he
wants to stay involved too. I know he does the
TV thing, but you know, you can't. He'd be lying
if he said he doesn't miss a little bit. I mean,
you can't not just being out there on the grass
running around with the guys.
Speaker 5 (01:06:08):
Rad ask my question about.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Milton some.
Speaker 6 (01:06:13):
Well, actually I thank you yeah for taking his question. Yeah, okay, great.
Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Yeah, you know, Mar's just jumped out of us.
Speaker 5 (01:06:23):
You know, in the way you play, you're talking about
what he's done in camp and sticking your off.
Speaker 6 (01:06:28):
Yeah, I'll talk about I'm gonna start with the opening
kickoff of the game of preseason twenty twenty five. Man,
you know he's singled up, he comes down, cross says
the guy, and just strikes the hell out of the
returner balls at the twenty two yard line. Then he
goes out and again probably played as physical as anybody
on the defense, filling gaps, punching, tackling, shooting gaps. I
(01:06:49):
just see the instincts in the confidence right now, you know,
Clarence jumping off the film with me.
Speaker 1 (01:06:55):
Man.
Speaker 6 (01:06:55):
But like, the defense was great. It's what I've seen
every day. But go to the old and kickoff and
here's a starting linebacker playing on special teams, and it's
like right out of the gate. Man, he's boomed down there.
And he wasn't the only one. Marquise Bell was there.
He had a great cross face. Buddy Johnson was squeezing
it from from the inside. But yeah, what I've seen
from Maris has been very, very consistent, and he showed
(01:07:17):
out in the game.
Speaker 2 (01:07:19):
Good redirect, by the way, that was good.
Speaker 7 (01:07:22):
How do you reward a guy like Malik Davis, who
you know, comes in thirty six hours before the game
and has an awesome performance versus the guys who have
been here throughout camp. You've committed this running back for
a multiple of those guys. How do you kind of
balance the more factor there?
Speaker 6 (01:07:35):
Yeah, first thing you used to pointed out, I mean,
we celebrated the hell out of the lake today. I mean,
the guys went crazy when I showed a couple of
his runs, and I mean what he did is not easy,
you know, And we were literally thinking about, you know,
we're gonna play him later in the game, and we
just decided, hey, let's put him in now and let
him go. And he did not disappoint. He gave us
a huge lift. And again he'll you know, he'll get
(01:07:57):
some reps, but we do have guys coming back. It's
a similar thing with Malik, Like, you know, I kind
of feel like I know Malik. I was not surprised
by how well Malik ran. I've seen the run instincts.
I was surprised he did it that quick, getting here
on Friday or Thursday whatever was and then doing that.
But you know, I think he's a terrific uh young
runner with great instincts and things like that, and I
think it's a shame that he has not been on
a team. But again, kudos to the Scouting Department for
(01:08:21):
being able to find him, and.
Speaker 2 (01:08:23):
He's happy to be back.
Speaker 6 (01:08:24):
And you know, again, these next two practices are going
to be physical and hard and long, and there'll be
plenty of work to go around for everybody. Absolutely sec
shows on Netflix. Somebody said, yeah, I get to check
that out.
Speaker 5 (01:08:43):
Kind of all. But I'm a little confused the first for
the last time.
Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
Me too, Yeah, yeah, me too. Yeah. Why do we
have to decide that today? You know, we don't. We
don't have to decide that today.
Speaker 6 (01:08:57):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You're balance it by
saying we want to find out more about Joe Milton.
There's a ton of talent. There's a bunch of things
that we see from Joe Milton. You saw Joe needs
the reps. You know, you saw the way he started
the game. You saw the way there was a little
bit of struggle for for us early on. You know,
he was rolling the ball hot and hard and all
(01:09:18):
those things, and we finally settled in. And I need
to get to learn him, you know, as the play caller.
You know, I don't need to learn DAC. I feel
like I really don't need to learn Will. So it's
more of that it's got nothing to do with It's
more of me having to learn Joe. And I'm not
going to say who the backup running back is right now,
who the backup quarterback is right now, because I don't
(01:09:39):
have to make those decisions yet. And again, is he
going to get more reps? We'll see, Well, Will came in.
Speaker 5 (01:09:49):
He stepped up on the touchdown.
Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
Great play.
Speaker 5 (01:09:53):
Joal kind of goes out the back.
Speaker 1 (01:09:55):
Of the plot.
Speaker 5 (01:09:56):
Doesn't really help to tackle out a number of times.
Speaker 6 (01:09:58):
As such, something John would Yeah, we actually talked about
it with Joe today. When you're playing a Joe Milton
or a Josh Allen or somebody like that, babe, you know, well,
they probably didn't do this with you, but they're gonna
rush them differently. They're gonna contain rush, you know where
They're gonna keep the edges wide so that.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
You can't escape that way.
Speaker 6 (01:10:16):
So the escape path for athletic guy like Joe or
yourself would be to move up to go out.
Speaker 2 (01:10:22):
Yeah yeah, okay, maybe maybe, but.
Speaker 6 (01:10:25):
To go up to go out, you know, whereas other
guys get rushed differently, guys that they don't feel are
as athletic, they're gonna run more games. But yeah, they
had a very specific plan for Joe and he's gonna
have to learn to navigate and how to get through
those pockets. And that's gonna because he's so athletic.
Speaker 5 (01:10:43):
You mentioned Netflix a second ago. There's a series coming
out this week.
Speaker 2 (01:10:47):
I believe with Jerry and stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:10:48):
You're in Florida when the nineties Cowboys stuff was going on.
What did you know about them then?
Speaker 2 (01:10:53):
What did you see about them then? And what do
you learned about them?
Speaker 6 (01:10:55):
Seducated down, Well, I've learned a lot since I've been
here over the past couple of years.
Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
I've learned a lot. Excited to.
Speaker 6 (01:11:02):
Watch it because it's obviously an incredible story and incredible tradition.
And you know, I think looking back now that I
know some more of those guys now, Todd, it means
more to me. Like when we had the Legends day
and all those guys came back and I got to
be around, spend time with Michael IRV and spend time
with some of those guys that were on those teams.
Speaker 2 (01:11:20):
I think it makes the story for me, the storyline for.
Speaker 6 (01:11:23):
Me even more exciting because I'm developing relationships with those
guys and learning to care about those guys, And of
course I care about you know, the guys here that
were part of those teams and winning championships. But anytime
you can celebrate success and Super Bowls and you want
to do that. But what I think will be really
cool as well is some of the things that the
(01:11:43):
stuff they had to deal with it wasn't great, you know,
because that's going to happen as well. You know, there's
gonna be issues. There's going to be problems with different issues,
and you're gonna have to address it. And I think
they prove that you can do that with the right
connection and brotherhood.
Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
Certainly got to have great players. But uh, yeah, I
think it'll be a great watch.
Speaker 6 (01:12:01):
I don't know when I'll find time to do it,
maybe on a road trip somewhere or something like that,
but yeah, I think it should be very entertaining.
Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
Say the least, you told us.
Speaker 5 (01:12:12):
Michelle Montete every day, you told us that you're a
little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
Of emotional pregame talked to Jerry for a while and whatnot.
Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
After such an adrenaline rush, like you know, your first
name as an NFL.
Speaker 1 (01:12:23):
Head coach, i'd imagine you'd probably like to talk to
your dad.
Speaker 5 (01:12:25):
Who did you talk to us?
Speaker 2 (01:12:27):
You kind of you can pressed reflected in the hours after.
Speaker 6 (01:12:30):
Here, I talked to my wife, I talked to a
couple of guys on staff. Actually, I'll make fun of
myself here for a second. So after the game was over,
I did the team prayer.
Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
I called him up.
Speaker 6 (01:12:42):
I talked to the guys, and I decided I was
going to do the team prayer because obviously my faith
is really important to me. Well, I went straight ricky
Bobby on him and I actually cursed.
Speaker 2 (01:12:51):
Yeah, okay, yeah, I just yeah, I cursed. I asked.
Speaker 6 (01:12:55):
I think I asked God to help us in the
red zone. Said like, you know, damn, we left some
opportunities out there. So I fired myself from doing the
postgame prayer. I will not be doing that anymore. But
we played the clip for the guys, said, hey, let's
talk about accountability because we got to address this, we
got to get this fixed. And we played the whole
clip of Will Ferrell at the kitchen table doing the
(01:13:17):
prayer where he's talking to baby Jesus and all this stuff.
And I think everybody knew, because I think Sam Williams
was like afterwards, he said to Dak, he goes.
Speaker 2 (01:13:26):
Can you swear during the prayer?
Speaker 6 (01:13:28):
So I have fired myself. I will no longer be
doing the postgame prayer. Chalk that one up that when
you're that emotional and there's the ups and downs of
a game, you don't need to be the one talking
to God.
Speaker 2 (01:13:37):
So that's something that we good better.
Speaker 6 (01:13:40):
How we after action report and we've got cleaned up,
it's either gonna be the team chaplain or someone a
little bit more calm than me.
Speaker 2 (01:13:49):
We talked about the numbers at corner Diggs and Revel.
Is there a decision with them?
Speaker 5 (01:13:55):
Do you fear that I won't have them in September? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (01:13:58):
Again, I think you know, Calvin, I get that you
have to ask a questions. I think you know both
guys are doing what they're supposed to do and it's
gonna Uh. Like I said, I do believe there's good
news on the way, you know for a number of
these guys that you know are injured that hopefully we
will have them in September. I'm talking about multiple guys
at multiple spots, but.
Speaker 2 (01:14:15):
You never know.
Speaker 6 (01:14:16):
And uh again, at the end of the day, it's
one of those things that you take at day by day,
and my number one concern is that they're doing everything
that they're supposed to be doing with Britt and Jim
and our training staff and our doctors to do that,
and then keeping them engaged, which you guys have always
asked about, keeping them engaged with meetings and you know,
doing some of the things that they can watch and
things like that. So that's the biggest thing we're focused
(01:14:38):
on right now.
Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
All right there, it is Cowboys head coach Brian Schott
ember More coming up here on thirteen under the Zone.
Speaker 4 (01:14:49):

Speaker 1 (01:14:59):
Okay, just a couple of quick things here before we
get to our final break here, just to let folks know,
like I said, every year, well every week during the
football season, just as it is with college football, high
school football in Texas has its top ten polls in
all the classifications.
Speaker 2 (01:15:19):
They used to vote on it The Eight People for
a long time now.
Speaker 1 (01:15:21):
The Eight People is basically compile and put together by
the staff of Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine and Greg
Temper and Matt stepping all the rest, and they do
a great job and putting it together. But there's also
the computer rankings, and sometimes the two are put together,
and sometimes they stand apart from one another. But I
(01:15:41):
just wanted you to know what the pre season rankings
are in the top the top ranked teams in the state.
For example, in six A, where they just rank everybody
at the start. They don't split it to division win
or Division two because the playoffs does that once to
get the postseason. But the preseason number one in Class
(01:16:04):
six A is South Lake Carrol, who they're projecting to
win the Division two state championship. Remember they lost to
Vandergriff last year in the final. North Crowley, which won
the Division one title, is the preseason number two. Duncanville
Starred Westlake as fourth, and they're projecting Westlake to get
to the finals of the D two bracket and lose
to South Lake Carol. Galena Park North Swart fifth. Vandergriff
(01:16:28):
defending state champion sixth A. Division two is sixth, followed
by Alan Cady Lake Travis is nine, and the Soto

the number one team in the state is Alito, the
projective win the Division one title. Smithson Valley is two,

consolidated tempt. Weiss checks in at number two twelve, the
highest ranked area school in five A Division one and
in five A Division two. The number one team in
(01:17:10):
the state is the defending state champion, Richmond Randall. They're
projecting them to win make it back to back state titles.
South Oak Cliff, who they've beaten the final is number
two Brenham.
Speaker 2 (01:17:20):
They really like Brenham.
Speaker 1 (01:17:21):
They're number three, Argyle, fourth, Iowa Colony, which is down
south of Houston. In the Alvin School District five Texas
High Texas Kannas six, Fort ben Marshall seven, Huntsville eight,
Port and Ahiscards nine, Anna is number ten. Liberty Hill
checks in at number fifteen, the highest ranked area school there. Then, finally,
(01:17:44):
just to give you four A Division one, it is Salina,
the defending state champions number one, followed by Canyon West, Plains, Kilgore, Stephenville, Lavernia,
Davenport or So out of San Antonio. Panther Creek and
Frisco is seven OBJ, number eight in the preseason poll,
Sulfur Springs nine, Alvareto ten, and then finally in for
(01:18:07):
a Division two, it is Carthage projected to win the
state championship. Number one Pleasant Grover, tex Or Cannas to
La Vega from the Waco area three Brock for SEAE
five Belleville six, Sunny Vale is seven, westarn Star, eight

(01:18:29):
