Speaker 1 (00:00):
Are you over the hump yet, have even begun to
try to get over the hump?
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Hey?
Speaker 1 (00:05):
If if it's not happening for you there, I get Yeah,
I feel you. I understand. Wednesday is typically the hump day,
but it might not be for everybody. Nevertheless, good afternoon,
Welcome to the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
under the Zone. My name is Craig Wait. Thank you
very much as we try to get your up. I
(00:25):
always say it every Wednesday. For those of you for
whom Wednesday means the traditional hump day. In other words,
get through that. We got two days left in your
regular work week. Good on you, Good for you, and
hopefully you can get down the hill. Help us. We'll
try to help you on the downhill run to the
(00:45):
weekend for those of you who are not there yet.
For those of you who are at the end of
your work week. Yeah, that's the best scenario at least
today anyway, right, So good for you and for those
of you for whom it's just starting listen, we hope
(01:06):
to get you through the next few days as well.
Glad to have you on the program. We of course
include the producer that's Jay Herman, who's with us. What
did what did you do last night?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
You?
Speaker 1 (01:20):
Uh, you know, did you take in some some more
sporting life activities, some playoff baseball? What'd you do with your.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah, it was baseball night.
Speaker 4 (01:30):
And in the background of my usual weeknight cooking on
the phone catching up with some people from home, I
was treated to some exciting baseball games, particularly that Red
Sox Yankees game.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
The first three games were really excited games the team.
The late game, the one that involved the team I
root for. The Dodgers only really kind of got exciting
in the eighth inning when the Dodger bullpen was well.
They were being like the Dodger bullpen struggling, and it
turned a ten to two game into a ten five game,
and it got interesting for a little bit before they
(02:04):
were able to keep them in arms length and went.
But you're right. The other games, going all the way
back to yesterday, that Detroit Cleveland game is a one
to one ball to to one ball game, Detroit winning today.
They're playing right now and it's a one to one
ball game in the bottom of the sixth inning, going
to the bottom of the sixth in Cleveland, Cleveland must
win to force a third and final game tomorrow. Then
(02:29):
the Cubs and Podres have Game two getting underway. That's
the second game of their wild Card series with Chicago
leading one game to nine, so the Podreams must win
to force a decisive third game. And then you mentioned
what a thriller last night was Boston and New York.
Whether you're a Yankees fan or a Red Sox fan,
(02:49):
or just a baseball fan, or maybe you're not that
much of a fan of baseball, if you were watching
last night, I would say you were probably entertained.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
Yeah, And David Cohne said something similar to what Gino
told us on Monday afternoon, a rolldess Chapman. If you
watched him this season, there hasn't been a better pitcher
in baseball. So to see him give up three straight
singles to start the ninth inning, you're thinking, oh my gosh,
is this really is this really happening?
Speaker 1 (03:15):
But it's about to fall apart, right, But he.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
Was able to strike out Stanton and that was the
big turning point. Paul Goldschmidt, I was thinking about this
this morning, Craig. If you're Paul Goldschmidt there, you know,
do you regret getting a late read on that fly
ball the left and not trying to score. I get it,
you don't want to run into and out at the plate.
But think about how the whole inning's different because Stanton
could bunt.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Yeah, I'm I'm sure he was asked about it, right,
I'm sure he was asked at length about that, and
there might have been some regret on that. There's there's
always going to be second thought.
Speaker 4 (03:50):
Would Aaron Boone have dared tell John Carlos Stanton to bunt?
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Probably not.
Speaker 4 (03:54):
You want him swinging away trying to win you the game,
so maybe it's a moot point.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Yeah, right, Yeah, you want your guy up there because
he's been so productive for them, so it makes sense.
I kind of get it. But it was a heck
of a baseball game and Boston comes back. Garrett Crochet
was just incredible for a lot of that baseball game.
Speaker 4 (04:16):
Yeah, And it's like my Red Sox fan friend told me,
what when Crochet went that long and you're burning him
for the rest of the Wildcard Series. There's two schools
of thought, Right, You're either going to remove him after
three or four, let your bullpen with Garrett Whitlock and
Code take you the rest of the way and then
Crochet is maybe available for an emergency in Game three,
but because he kind of, you know, emptied the tank there,
(04:38):
they needed to win that game, right, Lucas Giolito's on
the shelf, Brian BeO has been kind of up and down.
Red Sox needed that game a lot more than the
Yankees did last night, so it was huge that they
hung on.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Yeah, and so Boston does take game one. Now it's
game two, same time, saying play Yankee Stadium this evening.
It actually starts at five o'clock this afternoon, and we'll
see how that ultimately plays out in Boston take two
straight from the Yankees in New York in the reign
of the defending American League champions there. And like I said,
(05:11):
Detroit Cleveland are won one right now as they play,
and the Cubs and Padres are getting ready to get
started game two with Chicago winning game one at Wrigley
Field yesterday. So all of that is going to be
a lot of fun to keep track of tonight Game
two for Dodgers and Reds, and we'll see if the
(05:32):
Reds respond with Andrew Rabbit, if he's able to get
it turned around for them, and it's Zach Lyttel. You're right,
Abbot would go Game three. You're right, it is Zach
Lttel who would get the call. And it is going
to be Oshinobu Yamamoto who will pitch for Los Angeles
in this one tonight. So yeah, it's that's the baseball
(05:54):
excitement side of things. Then there's the football excitement side
of things. Texas Long Run is getting ready to open
SEC play Saturday afternoon at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium the
Swamp in Gainesville, Florida, taking on the Florida Gators. And
it's a game you can hear right here on thirteen
(06:15):
Under the Zone as well as on ninety eight point
one FMKVET and on one oh three point one FM
Austin SAD station. And our coverage will begin at eleven
thirty on Saturday morning with the third and Long Worn
Podcast Guys. Twelve thirty. It'll be Long Worn, Long Worn
(06:35):
game Day guys, you know, Cameron Parker, Mike Cardball, Harge,
Mark Henry. So that'll be at twelve thirty and then
at one thirty will be our network start. Tom Roger Wallson,
Will Matthews joining me from Gainesville with the kickoff at
two thirty Texas against Florida. The long Worne, of course,
dropped their season opener at Ohio State. Three straight home
(06:59):
games against over competition, three Long Worn victories. Now we'll
find out a little more about them. Yes, we'll find
out a little more about arch Banning as well, but
we'll find out a little more about the team overall. Tonight,
by the way, we're going to be recording Long Worn
Weekly with Coach Sark, and it will air tomorrow night
at seven o'clock here on the Zone, so you'll get
(07:20):
a chance to hear from the head coach. So that'll
be tomorrow night at seven o'clock, and you'll hear from
Sark this afternoon, coming up in the four o'clock hour
with Sark's comments from the SEC teleconference. We'll explain that
teleconference thing a little later on the dynamic that goes
(07:41):
with that. How it's a different group of media normally,
or at least includes several members of the media from
the regional and national perspective who are not in like say,
they're not at the Monday press conference on the UT campus,
and they're usually not in on the zoom the media
zoom on Thursday mornings with Sark, So it's different perspectives
(08:03):
and different questions, and there were some different questions asked
of Sark that we're not asked on Monday, and that
will probably not be asked tomorrow, and so we'll bring
that to you. Also, coming up here in a few minutes,
we're gonna let s he you from one of the
long worn players here are Hero Canoe, one of the
outstanding members of that long worn defensive front. We'll hear
(08:26):
from Hero Canoe this hour. Also later in a shift
back to baseball, in the three o'clock hour, we'll hear
from Jim Schlasniegle, the long Worn's head coach, so we'll
hear from them as well. Also in the three o'clock hour,
we'll here have a visit conversation with Sean Kelly, the
(08:47):
play by play voice of the Florida Gators. We usually
visit with the opposing teams play by playvoice guys, a
lot of guys I've known, some longer than others. Sean
and I have known each other quite a while. We
both said it was kind of refreshing that we have
to be in the same league last year for the
first time, but we've we've known each other. I knew
Shawn all the way back to the days when he
(09:07):
was working in New Orleans and then when he did
the then New Orleans Hornets, and then was in Oklahoma
and then and then. He's done a lot of work
for ESPN Radio, a lot of play by play on
the esp still does. In fact, in fact, he missed
the baseball series at UFCU dish fawk Field last May
when Texas played Florida because he was calling the NBA
(09:30):
Western Conference Finals Oklahoma City against Minnesota for ESPN Radio.
So but he's he's there to call every Florida Gators
football game. And Sean will join us in the three
o'clock hour, so we'll do that as well. If you
like to join in the conversation or at least the exchange,
if you will, you can text the program. All you
(09:51):
have to do is text the word Texas follow by
your question or comment to eight one five three zero.
So text the word Texas. It can be with the
capital T and the all caps texas or just Texas
with the little lower case letters, with EXAs, whatever, but
make sure you put that word first Texas and followed
(10:12):
by your question or comment to eight one five three
zero standard messaging in data rates pay apply. You can
also reach us via the talkback feature, and the way
you do that is to download the iHeart Radio app.
Then after that what you do is you search AM
thirteen under the zone that'll pop right up. We suggest
(10:33):
you make it a preset for you because that'll help
you when we do contesting where we give away tickets
to concerts and other prizes and things of that nature.
It'll kind of help you circumvent some of the longer
path to get into the consideration for that. So make
it a precept for you. And then you'll see two
(10:54):
buttons on there. One is a white one that's kind
of in the shape of a triangle. That's to listen
to whatever we have going on in the air at
the time. The other button is a red button with
a little white microphone. That's the talkback microphone. That's our
talkback feature. You push that button, you can leave us
a message up to thirty seconds, and you can do
that with a question or comment or thought or whatever
you want to do. So a couple of different ways
(11:15):
to reach us is always on the program. All right,
coming up, we'll hear from Hero Canoe, the Long Horne
defensive lineman. We'll keep you updated on the baseball. We'll
get to your text and more here on a Wednesday afternoon,
right here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone
and where you always listen to us for free on
the iHeartRadio app. The Cubs and Padres are underway for
the second straight game. San Diego strikes first a sacrifice
(11:38):
fly from Jackson Merrill, scoring Fernando Tatis Junior with a run.
The Padres got the first two runners on at a
double steal a third, and then a sack fly brings
in the run, and San Diego leads the Cubs at
Rerigley Field in Chicago one nothing. They go to the
bottom of the first. In the American League wildcard matchup,
Detroit and Cleveland are one to one in the top
(12:00):
of seven, with the Tigers batting with one on. Ladoff
Man Aboard in the top half of the seventh. Will
keep you updated on those things all right. In addition
to it being a yacht rock Wednesday, when we bump
back with some yacht rock tunes, we also get a chance,
usually in the midweek to hear from Longhorn football players,
(12:20):
and today that player would be Hero Canoe. Hero, of
course is the transfer from Ohio State, originally from Germany's
from Gettindorf, Germany, and.
Speaker 3 (12:32):
There'll be a fun mention of that towards the end
of this.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
Yeah, yeah, there is. There is a visite to that
in here. And he's had seven tackles so far, a sack,
a couple of tackles behind the line of scrimmage, three
quarterback pressures, he's broken up a pass, so he has
contributed absolutely, And he had an opportunity to meet with
the media and there was a lot of conversation about
(12:57):
how the first team offense works against second team defense
quite often scout team things and same way other way around.
Scout team for the opposing team Florida providing the eyes
and the ears for the Texas defense to see what,
(13:20):
you know, what they're going to have to deal with.
And Hero was asked, what does he tell that Is
there something specific he tells the scout team that helps
him prepare for a game.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
Yeah, I mean, obviously this is the first sec opener here,
so we tell them like hey, for guys that aren't
on scout, for the younger guys like Hey, we need
you guys to do well to give us a good
look so we can prepare it the right way. You know,
you never want to go into a season opener like
an SEC opener. I'm prepared. So just telling them the
importance of it is pretty big.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
All right.
Speaker 1 (13:55):
So now this long warn team has won three straight games,
albeit all at home, and now they go on the road.
So the hero is asked if the team fields that
has momentum, now forward momentum as they get ready to
go to Gainesville.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
So one thing about momentium is you've got to create it,
and it's an every day thing. So just by the
way we practice, we feel comfortable, confident, and we just
got to go in there, start off strong, play hard,
fly to the ball.
Speaker 1 (14:22):
And all of that stuff includes the solidarity of the
defensive front, and he discussed the importance of being able
to control and contain the line of scrimmage.
Speaker 5 (14:32):
Defensive line. It's all about the line of scrimmage. So
it's going to be the same thing for us every week.
It's about striking and knocking back the line of scrimmage.
So it doesn't matter who the opponent is really, so
it's a standard it's a standard.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
And it's one thing to control and contain the opponent's
offense along that offensive front, it's another thing to make
sure that when you go to tackle somebody, you finish
the job and complete the tackle process.
Speaker 5 (15:00):
So obviously, like like I just said, the standard is
the standard, and part of the standard is the fundamentals
and technique. And you can't play football without tackling, So
it's really big for us. And even if we can't
physically tackle, because we're preparing for for an opponent opponent,
we gotta have a great leverage, great pat level, and
the right technique for it.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
Yeah, okay, So what happens when there are miss tackles
and how that shows up on film and in individual
team sessions, it's.
Speaker 5 (15:27):
More like in the film study. Obviously, with the right
leverage in practice and right pat level, we can tell
if you're gonna make the tackle or not, and it
will be pointing out if you were gonna miss one.
So it's not kind of as mistackles for us. We
focus on the positive and uh positive messages here.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Yeah, but you don't want to be missing tackles, right,
and it helps to have all parts available. Alex January
has been banged up and out, but uh Cano one
of several Long weren't looking forward to the return of January.
Speaker 5 (15:59):
I mean adding another piece to something great obviously, like
Alex is an amazing player, really looking forward to him
joining us back. I'm looking forward to it. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (16:09):
A couple of questions about dealing with the road and
traveling on the road and playing on the road. Starting
off first of all, about weather. If you know anything
about Florida in the summer in the fall, more than
any time any other time of the year, especially this summer,
(16:32):
but late summer into the fall where we are right now,
there is pretty much a fifty to sixty seventy percent
chance of rain in the afternoon virtually every day. And
I can think back to seven long warn football team
(16:53):
playing at Central Florida, and I told this story about
how it was the debut of CF's brand new stadium.
At the time, it was called brighteh House Network Stadium,
which is a cable company down there, which I found
ironic since they had no television monitors in the press box.
The stadium was so new they had no cable hookups,
(17:16):
even though their corporate sponsor on the stadium the naming
sponsor was a cable company, but that's another story I digress.
In any event, Texas played UCF that day and they
had a storm delay about midway through the third quarter,
and it was a blot over an hour. When they
came back late in the afternoon, it was a sauna,
(17:39):
a steam bath, and the log Wortons, who had a
substantial lead, had to hold on and you could just
see their energy sapping and getting more and more tested.
And UCF, we had a running back named Kevin Smith
went on and played in the NFL with the Lions,
I think among others, had about one hundred and fifty
rushing yards and they really pushed Texas. Walgorns did hold on.
(18:02):
They won thirty five thirty two, and Matt Brown said
afterwards that he goes, that's one of the dumber things
I've done in my life. I agree to play a
team at the dedication of their new stadium. So it
was a September afternoon when that happened. Now we're into
early October, still in all weather could be a factor.
In fact, the forecast is calling for a fifty percent
(18:24):
chance of rain on Saturday. So hero Canoo was asked
is he affected by it and might play a role
if there is rain in this football game on Saturday.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
So I wouldn't say it affects me at all. I mean,
do you guys know where I came from. It's a
little bit colder up there, and may rain and may
storm and may snow, So the weather really doesn't play
a role here for it.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Yeah, we told you he's from getting North Germany. And
so then he was asked, do you like playing on
the road because the weather's one thing, the opposing state,
even environment is another thing, and and and what do
you like about playing on the road?
Speaker 5 (19:05):
Yeah, I would see my name is hero, But when
you go on the road game, it's like you're the villain.
So that's that's probably the most fun. Like really the
pressure is on them because they got all the fans
there everything, So we just come in there to take
something they think they already got, you know, So it's
it's it's it's a lot of fun taking some like
the food for somebody.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
You know, kids call that a bar crag.
Speaker 1 (19:29):
Yeah, that's that's that's what it is. And it is
kind of funny to hear you say that. I know,
my name is Hero. But the villain when we go
in there and uh.
Speaker 4 (19:41):
They asked, did you did you write that before? And
he goes, nope, that was that was off the dome.
Speaker 1 (19:45):
Yeah. And and this Florida team has struggled as well.
We're taking care of the football. They've had six, uh
interceptions on the offensive side, and they've been able to
get to interceptions back and a couple of funnel recoveries.
But they're still minus two in the turnover department. Are
(20:07):
the Gators coming into this game? So here they are
minus two and hero Canoo was asked about what do
you think about that? When you face an opponent that
has problems taking care of the football and challenges with turnovers,
does that get you fired up?
Speaker 5 (20:21):
Yeah? I mean obviously, yeah, it's on paper. But at
the same time, it's a new league, it's a basically
a new start for them. You got to create the turnovers.
They're not going to be given to you, so you
got to create it.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Okay, all right, So, uh, there's one thing to keep
in mind. He was also asked about Florida's offensive line,
the size and the physical nature and talent of the
Gators offensive front.
Speaker 5 (20:44):
I mean, they're veteran offensive line. Obviously, you got two
preseason All Americans right there, and they're they're solid, they're
sound on the technique and fundamentals. So we just got
to come out there play hard, and that's really it.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
All right. So here's a team that's won in four,
but they played two top five at least at the
time ranked teams. Those were losses there two of their
three losses. So does that one in three record make
the Gators more dangerous?
Speaker 5 (21:11):
Like I said, the standard is, the standard doesn't matter
who we play. We go in with the same mentality.
The record doesn't matter. And you know, if you watch
the game some of these games that might be a
little bit closer than you think. So you can't you
can't look at the record. You got to look at
the tape.
Speaker 1 (21:27):
One of the things that's a popular question to ask
student athletes coming off an open day, a bye week
on the schedules, how'd you spend your bye week? How
did that go for you? How was just relaxing?
Speaker 5 (21:40):
I was just hanging around, maybe play the game video games.
So yeah, just trying to shut off my mind for
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Okay, all right, now getting ready for a guy who
at times can look like he's straight out of a
video game when he's healthy. D J Lagway the Gator
quarterback in his thoughts.
Speaker 5 (21:57):
He's a good player, and that's one thing like like,
obviously this season hasn't been always the best for him,
but you see it on last year's tape, and he's
a promising player's he gets really really talented. He is
able to run the ball. He's a big, strong guy.
So you got to be aware of him and always
gonna make sure you've got eyes on him. And we
got to play for the mind least sound.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
Now, this is the second road game of the season
for Texas. We know that they have the season opener
in Columbus at Ohio State and then followed by three
straight home games, So now it's their second road game.
But for hero Canoe, maybe it might seem more like
the first because remember he used to play at Ohio State.
(22:39):
So does it feel like this is his first road
game of the year.
Speaker 5 (22:43):
I like that question because obviously I haven't played against
Florida before. So we got these four games that they
just had to head up by week two. We can
watch and can analyze and see what they're doing and
just kind of going off that and obviously confidence comes
up preparation, and the better we prepare, the better we
feel about it. And it's going to be the big
(23:05):
goal for this week.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
All right.
Speaker 1 (23:06):
And then one more from him, help me out a
little bit here, Jake. He was asked about the players
who get the OX a ux the OX call what
what exactly does that mean?
Speaker 4 (23:19):
So, Craig, when I was growing up before the advent
of well bluetooth speakers, so this even predates me, you
would you would plug in your phone to an auxiliary
cord or the headphone jack say, if you were connected
to a speaker or the car.
Speaker 3 (23:34):
Who's who's who's on the music? Who's the DJ?
Speaker 6 (23:37):
Right?
Speaker 4 (23:37):
But that you know, no one, no one younger than
me has ever probably used an OX cord. But we
all say still, hey, by the way, I should be
careful saying we all with people younger than me, but
we you know, kids still say, hey, who's on OX
right now? They're killing it? Or who's on OX?
Speaker 1 (23:53):
So it's whoever has the musical selection exactly, Okay, And
that's a big deal for a football team, Yes it is.
And as a result of it, at Hero Canoe was
asked which player gets the OX for music before the games.
Speaker 5 (24:06):
Usually it's DJ Camble that's on OX. Me personally, I
got my headphones with me and see, I'm German still,
so I'm listening to guys might listen to some American rap.
I listened to some German rap him and then, uh,
techno is a big thing in Germany, and I feel
like I beat beats get me going too, So I
(24:29):
listened to a lot of techno, a lot of German
rap before the games.
Speaker 1 (24:31):
Okay, so there's a learning experience for us there.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
Upbeat beats. I like that.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
Who's on OX? Okay?
Speaker 3 (24:38):
DJ Campbell, Craig Ways on OX on your Rock Wednesdays.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
Yes, you know that. I am up next. What's always
on OX on Wednesdays and Mondays and Tuesdays and Thursdays
and Fridays for that matter, is inconceivable? That's next right
here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of
the iHeartRadio app. Second hour of the program here on
Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone, Craig Way alongside
the producer Jay Carmon, glad to have you with us
(25:03):
as well. Things have really ramped up in both of
these wild Card playoff games. Cleveland we mentioned, took a
two to one lead on it was a rookie of
the hitomer right, all right, so to go up to one.
And then they added one more run on back to
(25:28):
back doubles by Stephen Kwan and what Daniel Sneman right
to make it three to one. So now they're still
batting in the bottom of the eighth inning with a
three to one lead on the train, knowing they have
to win in order to force a decisive third game tomorrow. Meanwhile,
at Wrigley Field, San Diego still lead. Chicago won nothing.
(25:50):
They almost the Pottery's almost cut out of the inning,
getting Dansby Swanson doubled off the base, but it went
to review and the call of him getting back in
time was upheld. So the Cubs trail the Padres one
to nothing as they bat in the bottom of the
third inning, San Diego getting a run on the sack
fly after a double steal in the first inning. So
(26:13):
that's where that stands right now, all right, Coming up
in a few minutes, we shift back the football and
we'll visit with Sean Kelly, the play by play voice
of the Florida Gators, get his thoughts on the Gators.
They had their open date by week last week, as
did Texas, so we'll hear from him coming up. By
(26:34):
the way, in that San Diego Chicago game, Jackson Merrill
able to in a gentle collision with Fernando Tattiss catch
a fly ball to get Dylan Ceese and the Padres
out of the edit.
Speaker 4 (26:46):
Not like the near miss for Willia or bre you
in Saddan Rafaela the Red Sox.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
And it wasn't quite like that. So anyway, that's going
to the fourth inning there at Wrigley Field, and again
the Cubs trail, the Padres want nothing. But let's see,
since we've been talking a baseball, let's hear from Jim
Slasnagle on a media availability courtse Long War and baseball team,
you know, as twelve inning exhibition games go looked impressive
(27:11):
and it blowout winever Texas Tech last Saturday at Dell Diamond.
And of course they have Lamar coming in with another
fall ball exhibition game that'll be this Friday, and that
one will be at home at ufc U tish Folk Field,
and Jim Slastnig was asked about his plan for the upcoming.
Speaker 7 (27:28):
Week Our plan is to get through the Lamar game,
see how that goes, and then we'll keep going at
least for one more than likely two more weeks of
fall practice after that, probably wind it up on the
seventeenth weekend. We can go further, but we're just gonna
look at basically the pitching. You know, what Brodie Wallas
(27:51):
needs a young freshman is significantly different than maybe what
Luke Harrison needs, you know, and so some guys will
shut down, some guys may.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
Need to throw a little more.
Speaker 7 (28:01):
It just depends on what each individual player needs and
what we're trying to do. But I would say that
we'd like to get finished within a couple of weeks,
within two weeks after the Lamar games, so we can
kind of get in the weight room and get to
work on more individual needs. Fall practice is for a
team usually just team needs. There's a lot of individual time.
(28:22):
But once we get past to the fall practice and
we can really spend time on each individual player and
what they need.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Okay, like I said, it was twelve innings, that was
planned to play twelve innings. It wasn't like they said, Okay,
let's play nine innings and the score was tied three
to three, and then they scored six in the twelve No,
(28:49):
they were up significantly through nine, but it was planned
to play twelve innings. They did. Texas won that exhibition,
for what that's worth. Without Adel Diamond, they won nine
to three. But Foss was asked what impressed him most
about that win over Tech.
Speaker 2 (29:03):
I think the number one thing is number one as
a team.
Speaker 7 (29:07):
I felt like our guys walked in the ballpark to
win a game, you know, which is.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
What I challenged them to do. I don't you know,
we're keeping.
Speaker 7 (29:12):
Score, so I know it's a it's a fall game,
it's in controlled scrimmage somewhat, but at the same time,
if there's a scoreboard running, and we want to win
the game. And so as proud of the way they
handled that. And then I was super proud of the
young young pitchers and how they not not one went
out there and got super spooked or lost control of
(29:32):
things or the inning got away from them.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
So they did a really nice job.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Okay. Then he was asked about the ongoing assessment process
that happens for and that's comparing the new incoming players
versus the returning players. The freshmen, there are new coming in,
the ones who have arrived via the transfer portal, all
of those kinds of thing. What's his assessment process the
(30:00):
new and returning players for the fall?
Speaker 7 (30:02):
Luke Harrison doesn't need to prove anything to me. You know,
he's trying to get some work in.
Speaker 8 (30:06):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (30:07):
I think those older guys you know that have track record,
and you know, a guy like.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Borba's trying to figure out first base.
Speaker 7 (30:13):
He's working through he didn't he didn't play this summer,
so he's working on some swing mechanic things. So I
don't look at their batting average or their production or
any any of the analytics really at all, because they're
they're working on things that they're going to lead to.
Speaker 2 (30:31):
Some weird results at times.
Speaker 7 (30:32):
Whereas the incoming player, you know, you're trying to learn
more about them and so there's not as much tinkering.
You're giving them a chance to play and see what
kind of competitors they are. And the games are what's
you know, these outside competition games.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
We had a freshman.
Speaker 7 (30:47):
Maddox Monsieur, who you know, he's just been okay in
the in the inner squads, but in the game against him,
with a crowd and everything else. Man, he really showed
some defensive capability running the bases.
Speaker 9 (30:59):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (31:00):
I would say, as bat is coming, it's it's it's
behind those other things.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
But uh.
Speaker 7 (31:05):
But yeah, with with the returning players, you know, they've
earned their they have stock in the company, so they're
they're going to go do what they need to do
to get better for the spring.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
Okay, there it is. Uh, And we'll hear some more
from Jim slasn Ago a little bit later on this hour.
So the text line, UH, somebody said, I guess I'm
out of the loops long worn weekly no longer recorded
live at Pluckers. No, it's not.
Speaker 10 (31:30):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
It was moved this year Uh to on campus.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (31:36):
That was to make it easier uh for Sark and
his and his his coaching staff as well. So that's
why we do the program on campus. What it has
afforded us the opportunity to do is we have been
able to have members of the coaching staff and support
(31:56):
staff on with us. Uh, since they weren't you know,
just you know, all they had to do is walk
right down the hall. So that's why we've done that.
And tonight we have one of the key members of
the recruiting process, Chris Gilbert. They're a director of high
school relations. So he'll he'll join us tonight. And also
(32:19):
and we're recording it so you'll hear it tomorrow. B
John Robinson will be on with us. Awesome as well. Yeah,
we have a different former log Oarne join us. We've
had Jamal Charles.
Speaker 4 (32:29):
He's not too busy torching my commander's defense.
Speaker 1 (32:33):
Well he's he's now able to catch his breath, so
he'll do that. So anyway, there's that, And so I said,
let's light things up and talk politics for a while.
It's kidding, Hey, there was no politics that I was
just letting you know, you know, with a government shutdown,
how it might affect you as a traveler. That's all
I was doing reporting there. And then no opinions offered
(32:54):
on any of that kind of stuff.
Speaker 4 (32:56):
Only opinion is that we need to pay the TSA.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
Hopefully they're doing their job. All right. Up next, we
visit with Sean Kelly, play by play voice of the
Florida Gators. When we continue, I'm thirteen under the zone.
All right, updating the baseball for you right now, Cleveland
is broken. The game open now and the Guardians are
now up by a score of six to one, and
(33:22):
it has now gone to the top of the ninth inning.
In that one, it is six to one Cleveland. They
got a three run homer by Bo Naylor, so they
hit two home runs in that bottom of the eighth inning,
one from Ryan Rochio, and then after they got back
to back doubles from Stephen Kwan and Daniel Steamen, a
three run homer by Bo Naylor has broken it open
(33:44):
and it is now a six to one lead for
Cleveland now. Having said that, the Tigers have two long
with one out in the night, so it's not over yet,
but Cleveland is up by five runs, so they're in
good shape. Meanwhile, San Diego trying to addual one nothing
lead against the Cubs as the Padres bat in the
(34:04):
top half of the fourth inning. In that one of
Brigley Field, San Diego won to nothing in the top
half of the fourth inning, Padres being again in the
Cubs lead that series one game tonight. All right. As
we mentioned, of course, a lot of excitement and interest
surrounding a game with two blue blood programs in college football,
(34:26):
Texas and Florida and both teams still trying to probably
find their offensive footing as well as continue some sound
defensive play. That's the case on both good friend. Sean Kelly,
play by play voice of the Florida Gators, joins us
on the hotline. I appreciate the time. How are you,
my friend.
Speaker 11 (34:44):
I'm doing great, Thanks for calling and looking forward to
seeing you this weekend. I don't know why it's taking
eighty five years for you all to come this way,
but okay, I put that in.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
The broadcast, but it's a first time in eighty five years.
I said, Texas will play in the swamp, and I thought,
you know, eighty five years ago there probably was quite
a bit of a swamp around there, you know, and
less of that, but at least on campus there was
a place to play for the Gators to play football.
Nineteen forty. It's been that long. And it seemed almost
a little bit weird last year when he came to Austin,
(35:15):
but you and I were both staying at the same time.
It was really good. It was good for Texas, good
for Oklahoma, and I think good for the SEC. For
Texas and Oklahoma to be in the SEC.
Speaker 11 (35:26):
I believe that the case too. And you know, it's
interesting if you look at the history of these two programs,
as you mentioned blue Bloods, it's interesting in the fact
that when Texas has been up, Florida has not quite
been there to meet them some other place and vice versa. Right,
You think you'd think that those paths would have crossed,
even in postseason play a little more often than they
(35:48):
have over the years.
Speaker 12 (35:49):
But the last that's where we are.
Speaker 13 (35:51):
And now, with a.
Speaker 11 (35:53):
Conversation we had earlier about the way that the SEC
schedule is going to play out, this will become a
little bit more of a regular thing, which I think
is great for both institutions.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Yeah, I think you're exactly right. In the one time
there were kind of ships passing in the night, was there?
In eight? Well, there were two times, one when I
guess when Florida was upset by Tennessee and then Texas
could have gotten into the National Championship Game simply quote
unquote by beating Colorado in the Big twelve Championship Game
(36:25):
at Texas Stadium that didn't happen. And then in eight
there was the the Michael Crabtree catch at Texas Tech. Otherwise,
of the long Worns finish out running the table and
win a rematch with Missouri in the Big twelve Championship.
They would have played the tim tebow led Gators for
the national title that year instead of Oklahoma. You know,
(36:45):
getting into that thing.
Speaker 11 (36:46):
So yeah, well said, well said, yes, the ship's.
Speaker 1 (36:50):
Passing in the night. Well, now it's kind of long.
Even though the long words were three and one and
the Gators are one in three, we know how the
three wins are for Texas against overmatched competition. We know
the Gators played two top five ranked teams. That's two
of the three losses there. And we also know both
teams are, as I mentioned, still looking to try to
find their footing offensively. Give us a little bit of
(37:13):
an overview on how it's gone on these four on
this four week journey where the defense has really been
very good, but the offense obviously has had some struggles.
Speaker 11 (37:22):
Yeah, I'm really hoping that you and I are not
calling a ten to seven final score on Saturday, because
that's kind of how you know, if the pass as
a predictor, that's kind of how this has gone for
the Gators. In the fact that yes, the defense has
been very good, it is a carryover from last season,
the way that Gators finished winning four in a row
(37:43):
and beating two ranked teams at home last year down
the stretch and then their bowl game, so that seemed
to carry over. What we all thought also was going
to carry over was the continued evolution of a certain
quarterback from Willis and an offense that seemingly did not
have a weakness to any of the position groups. But
we've found that to be quite different. So dj Laghlasman
(38:06):
his entire offseason battling a variety of different injuries, missed
all of springball, most of training camp, kind of got
it all together fired up clear before the LU game,
But much like Texas's game last week, that is not
a fair barometer of what the Gators are in their
battle against the Sharks of Long Island. So in that sense,
(38:27):
the Gators offense is not carried over in the same
way that the defense did from a year ago. So
there in lies the mystery. And yes, the schedule hasn't
helped either. There has not been a get right opportunity.
South Florida better than everybody thought they were going to be, probably,
but again, no excuse for Florida to lose that game
at home and then at LSU and at Miami. So
(38:49):
where is the breather right? Where's the get right situation
for the Gators. I guess it has to be the
bye week that they're coming off of, because beyond Texas,
it's a very good A and M team. Beyond that
and marching down the stretch of the SEC schedule into
Florida State. So that's kind of the state of the union,
if you will, in Gator Country.
Speaker 1 (39:08):
I give everybody a little bit of a I saw
Dj Lagway play a lot for the as a Willis Wildcat,
including in a playoff game against Desota that had a
couple of current Loghorns on that desta team that ended
up winning a state championship. But Dj was looked at
as just a monster, a beast in high school, and
(39:31):
you know, and Sark said, hey, we tried to recruit
him as well. And then and then, of course he
had some really uplifting moments, but I guess that was
counter balanced by the injuries he had to deal with
as well. And I know he was trying to recover
his old self, so to speak. What's been your take
on watching him trying to get through all this.
Speaker 11 (39:51):
Yeah, you know, it's the thing where like he made
his name with that deep ball last year and the
ability to make plays outside of the pocket, and this year.
Speaker 12 (40:00):
Especially early on, teams have just decided.
Speaker 11 (40:03):
You're not going to beat us over the top, but
too high, single high, with a with a with a spy,
all those things that take away the big play effect
from Lagway. He struggles on his intermediate throwing game a
little bit.
Speaker 12 (40:16):
And you know, I think the more I've thought.
Speaker 11 (40:18):
About it, in the last week last year, DJ Lagway
had Graham Merch in his ear every day even after
our mercy season was done with the ACL, he stayed
here and mentored DJ and got him through game week
prep all season long. Graham's moved on.
Speaker 12 (40:35):
He's in the state of Texas with the Texans.
Speaker 11 (40:38):
Lagway now is on his own in that sense, and
so there's been some struggles on top of the physical
problems with regardless progressions or reads or different things that
he now does not have Graham to counsel him on
in preparation each week. So I think if you combine
that with the fact that Lagway just hasn't been healthy
until now, literally in the last two weeks. That's where
(41:01):
DJ Lagway is frustrated. He's never had to deal with this.
As you mentioned, he was a beast at Willis. It's
always interesting to watch a player, especially one who's nineteen
years old, go through adversity for the first time. Right,
they've beaten the brains out of everybody they've ever played.
Everything has come easy. Well now it's not so easy,
and so watching him go through the process is intriguing
(41:24):
to me and frustrating for a fan base.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
Talking about Florida Gators football with the voice of the
Gator Sean Kelly here on sports Radio AM thirteen under
the Zone, Sean, tell everybody about Jayden ball a bit.
You said, did this is one one tough cookie there
at the running back spot?
Speaker 12 (41:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (41:40):
This is. This is a running back by trade that
has a background as a wildcat quarterback, as a receiver.
You know, six' two six, three a lot of yards after.
Contact but he's proved himself now that they've started to
throw him the ball a little bit that he is
a weapon no matter where The gators.
Speaker 12 (41:59):
Put, him AND i think they.
Speaker 11 (42:00):
Need to lean into that maybe even. MORE a lot
of times we'll, hear oh this ball carrier needs to
carry it twenty two times or WHATEVER i think we've
gotten With Jayden. Ball he just needs to touch it
twenty five times a, game whether it's running the football
in a traditional sense or via you, know as a,
receiver whether you line him out wide or you send
him out of the backfield on a. Route he's a.
Speaker 12 (42:22):
Dynamic kid WHO i don't necessarily think he seeks, contact
but so much of his production is after. Contact he
always seems to find a way to get.
Speaker 11 (42:31):
A little bit. More he likes to get to that
second level and he's gonna get punished on his way
there at. Times but at the same, time he's also
shown some flashes trag of making a, move make a guy,
miss take his foot in the, ground and spin off
of a. Guy and therefore last year.
Speaker 12 (42:48):
Is in his first, campaign he was averaging over six
and a.
Speaker 11 (42:51):
Half yards of. Carry here, now even with the struggles
last week Against, miami he's still five point nine yards per.
Carry if that were to, HOLD i think that everybody
In order And blue would be happy with that and
he'd be on his way to a great. Season so
we'll see how it plays. Out but right, now if
you're looking at The gators. Offense he is problem number
one For.
Speaker 1 (43:10):
Texas flipping it to the defensive side that it's that
old thing about the central nervous, system being that the
interior defensive line followed by the linebackers up through the.
Secondary is that a good place to start when talking
about This gator.
Speaker 11 (43:24):
Defense it is they're banged. Up Caleb banks return from.
Injury now he's. Done they suffered a few more injuries last,
week but they have depth There, craig so they've had
different guys step.
Speaker 12 (43:37):
In and the funny thing is when you look at
the numbers for.
Speaker 11 (43:39):
The gators, defense they're not where they want to be sack.
Wise they'd like to have more, takeaways something that fueled
them in the second half of last. Season they've been a,
bend don't break if you. Will they're effective when they
need to be effective in that they've had very good
numbers on first, down especially their opponents are only scoring
touchdowns the time when they enter the red, zone and
(44:02):
also they've had to deal with some short. Fields but
yet their scoring defense points per game has also been
held in. Check so you take that and combine it
with the fact that The Florida gators offense will be
haven't been able to. Score i'm sure there's some frustration
between one side of the ball and the. Other but
they've got, young dynamic linebackers that seemingly have stepped into
the role better THAN i. Thought they're stout enough up,
(44:24):
front and they do have a secondary that has a
ton of. Experience although LOSING. D. D johnson's injury last
week is a blow. There But carmani McClain has been
a great. Story young guy out Of, lakeland which is
Real gator country Between orlando And, tampa starts his career At,
colorado doesn't work, out gets back home as a preferred walk,
(44:45):
on and turned his life and his playing career around
in this last. Offseason so he is now living up
to some of the five star reputation that he had
coming out of high. School he'll be at the one
quarter cornerback instead Of, johnson and then on the back
End jordan cast crazy to think. THIS i think it'll
make his twenty ninth career start consecutively here Against texas this.
Speaker 1 (45:05):
Weekend wow. Sewn does this need to be a low
scoring game in order for The gators to win or
can they win a. Shootout.
Speaker 11 (45:12):
Yeah, well at the, MOMENT i, think based on just
the body of work right, now it has to be
a low scoring. Game but at the same, time If
florida is to turn their season back around and do
so at, HOME i think maybe they do have to
get into a shootout a little bit and put up some.
NUMBERS i just don't see it Against texas's. DEFENSE i
think The longhorns defense is really, good very. Legit their
(45:33):
coordinator is so, smart and they've got, experience, right and
so all those things play into. It with some key portal,
GUYS i JUST i envision a low scoring game only
because of those, things and so THEREFORE i don't want
to lean into the.
Speaker 12 (45:48):
If it gets to be a track, meet that's okay For.
Speaker 1 (45:49):
Florida, okay final thing here, now like we, said first
time in eighty five years That texas has Played florida
in football In, Gainesville walgorn fans who were able to get,
tickets who will be coming, down what tell them exactly
what the atmosphere the swamp will Be, Like, craig you're, There,
(46:14):
yeah there we, go there we. GO i might might
have lost that first dropped out for a, Second are all?
Right so, tell tell everybody of The logorn fans who
are making the trip down To, gainsville what the atmosphere
in the swamp will be.
Speaker 11 (46:25):
Like loud number, one not very. Comfortable they'll wedge ninety
thousand bodies into. There it's you, know it's an old
park that wasn't built for today's creature. COMFORTS a lot
of it is bleacher, seating and the bleacher designated, spots
Probably craig were outlined for a smaller generation of. Fans
(46:49):
so it's, tight it's. Uncomfortable there's a chance of, rain
but it shouldn't. Be it shouldn't be first of the
season type. Hot but what they'll, FIND i think is
is a very knowledgeable out and this is this IS sec, country, obviously.
Speaker 12 (47:04):
AND i Know texas fans.
Speaker 11 (47:06):
Have been longing for and excited about seeing THESE sec.
Venues this is one of the more legendary. Ones and
what they do with won't back down at the end
of the third quarter is pretty. SPECIAL i put it
up there with a lot of the different great traditions
in college, Football so that's kind of what they're.
Speaker 1 (47:22):
Into so you're telling me That texas fans are going
to be encountering The Fenway park Of College. Football then
in some, ways.
Speaker 12 (47:31):
Yes you, know AND i think That fenway.
Speaker 11 (47:34):
Has updated and yet kept their old. CHARM i was
just there this past. Weekend The gators are kind of
in a similar. Situation they want to. Renovate they just
really need to renovate the, swamp but yet it still
has to be the, swamp, right and so that challenge is.
Speaker 12 (47:48):
Upcoming but, YEAH i think. So like it's kind of
like when.
Speaker 5 (47:51):
You go To.
Speaker 11 (47:51):
Fenway Or, wrigley like when you go into the. Bathroom
not to be, crassier but it's not going to be

Stratu Funny Oatrock. Wednesday the Great Elton john who had
some offerings that wound up in the yacht rock, Realm
Little genie nineteen seventy nine being one of those that
(55:17):
falls right in the wheelhouse of the date line of
yacht rock late seventies to early. Eighties but as we,
know the boundaries extend beyond. That it goes beyond LIKE i,
said really one of the best examples of that is
Shot a With Smooth operators nineteen Ninety but listened to,
it you tell me that's not. Yatrock and it is
played on several of the yacht rock programming pods and
(55:42):
networks and things like. That that's on the back on
the front End brandy by Looking glass nineteen seventy. Two
so that's well in advance of. It, so, yeah the
universe is. Expansive it has some elasticity to it when
it comes to yacht, rock as it always. Should our
(56:03):
thanks To Sean kelly who joined us the play by
play voice of The Florida. Gators let's hear a little
more From Jim. Slasnegel we heard from him, earlier the
Long wrne baseball. Coach coming off of. That it was
scheduled twelve inning exhibition game fall ball exhibition game Against Texas.
Tech and, Yes texas looked. Impressive you know what was
(56:25):
probably AND i Think schloss would say this as. Well in,
FACT i think we are going to hear him say
something about. This the most impressive thing about that twelve
inning exhibition With texas winning nine to three At Del.
Diamond you know what was probably most, impressive more than
eight thousand fans in. Attendance how about? That, yeah and
(56:48):
listen in this world Of Savannah, bananas and you Know
texas was A Texas tailgators or. Team oh, Yeah everyboddy
plays for, THEM.
Speaker 3 (57:01):
I broadcast for.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
Them oh, Yeah, okay all, RIGHT i have no problem
with any of. That it's entertainment form Of, basically LIKE i,
Said i've kind of thought of The bananas kind of
as The Harlem Globe trotters of, baseball and that's a.
Compliment The globe trot has been around one hundred years
and still entertaining. Fans so, YEAH i would, say you,
(57:23):
know it's another way of. Entertainment by the, way updating
The Cubs, Padres Manny machatta has gone deep but to
run homer in the top of the fifth and The
padres now lead The cubs three nothing in game two.
Speaker 4 (57:37):
Of that that after he was shaken up going after
a foul ball near The cub dugout.
Speaker 3 (57:42):
Earlier so it looks Like manny's doing just.
Speaker 1 (57:43):
Fine all, Right So padre's up three to nothing that
ball game in the top of the. Fifth my point
was going to be is in this day and age
and time of alternative sports entertainment like that And east
sports and things like, that it's good to see a
fall ball college baseball exhibition draw more than eight thousand. Fans.
Speaker 3 (58:07):
Yeah, yeah it's really.
Speaker 4 (58:08):
Nice it's a testament to both the tradition and brand
That Texas baseball has built for itself in the, past
and some of the excitement around what's happening in the present.
Speaker 1 (58:17):
Yep and some of the excitement is who's going to
win the shortstop? Battle pretty competitive battle going, on And
slosh was asked about. IT i don't know.
Speaker 2 (58:25):
If it would be.
Speaker 7 (58:26):
DECIDED i, think you, KNOW i think you look at
in a couple different. Ways you, know who's who's playing
a really good shortstop and who also if Assuming mendoz
is a second, baseman you know who also is a
really good third?
Speaker 2 (58:38):
Baseman you.
Speaker 7 (58:39):
KNOW i think third base is the hardest position to
play other than catcher in college. BASEBALL i think shortstop
is a lot of ground.
Speaker 2 (58:45):
To, cover but it's it's a lot less SHOULD i?
Speaker 7 (58:52):
Say third base is super unique in college because of
the bunt, game and you got to learn how to
play in and there's balls that are top spun. There
you got to make decisions on whether you're going to
go get the, ball whether you're going to. Retreat balls
are hit rockets act you you got to play the
butt in professional baseball is big leagues for the most.
Part you, know the third basement players in the left,
(59:12):
field you, know and they all have great, arms and
they're all great, PLAYERS i, mean but they Don't there's
not as much to deal with in the big leagues
in my, perception as there is in college.
Speaker 2 (59:23):
Baseball so that goes into it.
Speaker 7 (59:26):
Too and THERE i have coach players that they play
a better shortstop than they play a third, base and vice.
Versa and SO i Think bessara has definitely know he
he's played a full season at third base At, stanford
and he's played a full season at shortstop At.
Speaker 2 (59:42):
Stanford so But adrian has done you, Know adrian has
looked good at short so probably is natural positions, SHORTSTOP.
Speaker 7 (59:53):
I would, say you, know but he's capable of doing
a lot of things the.
Speaker 1 (01:00:00):
Field, yeah it'll be interesting sel that develops in. It
and As schloss was, saying it may not be decided
by the end of the fall ball. Sessions. Uh the
top of lineup is something that's really Impressed schlats was
what he's seen in the workouts as well as in that.
Speaker 7 (01:00:14):
Exhibition when your best players go out and play great
like they did the other, day then you can expect
to do. Well so, yeah it's it's exciting top top
half or top third of the, lineup but it's you,
know we need to be, deeper you, Know AND i
think that's where the continued development Of borba And, Larson,
(01:00:34):
livingston Pisera Ryan. PAT i, Mean I'm Ryan Anthony pack
had an outfielder AT tcu.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
Nam Ryan pat.
Speaker 7 (01:00:43):
And then, uh you Know, jonah you, know getting back
so and there's other, Players monsieur when you know what's
he going to be able to? Do Presley, Corville, ermit
you Know. Ermis we don't have that many position, players
so we're gonna need them. All but depth to the
lineup is what we hope we can get get to
to where you're not. Relying i've co teams where here
comes the, inning here's our chance to, score and then
(01:01:04):
you got to sit for two innings and until those
guys come back. Up so that's not fun. Baseball so
we try to avoid.
Speaker 2 (01:01:10):
That, yeah, yeah. YEAH i mean we started the season.
Speaker 7 (01:01:15):
Awesome you, know our, depth our depth in our lineup
was awesome last.
Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
Year.
Speaker 7 (01:01:19):
Uh and then whether it be because of injury or
just guys getting exposed on certain, weaknesses it certainly wasn't
a very you, know it wasn't a very good, offense
that's for.
Speaker 11 (01:01:28):
Sure.
Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
Uh with regard to the fact That Del, diamond somebody asked,
me you know that before even hearing this, ANSWER i
kind of knew what the answer would be about. This
BUT i understand the reason why the question was ask
because there's early season tournaments played At Dell. Diamond So
(01:01:51):
schloss was, asked would he consider playing more games At.
Speaker 2 (01:01:55):
Dell.
Speaker 7 (01:01:56):
YEAH i would never consider moving a series, there a game,
POTENTIALLY i know it's been.
Speaker 2 (01:02:02):
Done in the.
Speaker 7 (01:02:03):
PAST i just feel, like if we're playing In, austin
we should play at our. Field with the investment that
universities put, in they can continue to put. In you're
gonna redo our field next, year hopefully redo some things
in the facility within the next eighteen. Months so in
our season ticket, holders so you, know if we had
(01:02:24):
a deal where our season ticket holders got their same
seat or something maybe In Round, rock then, yeah but,
uh it was a great crowd, though And i'll be
super interested to see What friday night's crowd is. Like you,
know getting getting into Downtown austin Or friday And friday,
NIGHT i know is a, challenge whereas A saturday afternoon
In Round rock is maybe a completely different fan. Base so,
(01:02:47):
uh but It's i'm definitely open to playing a game
up there for.
Speaker 13 (01:02:51):
Sure when you when you say redo the field next,
year is that after next season you went to bet.
Speaker 7 (01:02:56):
After so it would be after, fault after fall practice
of twenty, Six so a year from, now a year,
say thirteen months from, now the plan.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
Is to you, know read, It.
Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
So is this the? Plan? Part this is the part
right here where he talks a little bit more about
the plan to redo the playing surface that you Have
htish far.
Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
Field the first Thing i'd like to do is flat
in the.
Speaker 7 (01:03:21):
Field that's a big, thing you, know the the big
crown in the field from When Coach gouts originally put
the turf out, there the Old ashid turf is still
there and that that's challenging in a lot of.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
Ways so.
Speaker 7 (01:03:34):
We're trying to figure out what's that's that's going to
be a big cost is tearing the current turf. Off
what's underneath? There how can that be moved and pushed?
Around and then you, know putting the new turf. On
if we're assuming we go turf and that's the, plan
putting the new turf on doesn't just take a couple.
Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Of, weeks not that big a. Deal it's all the
all the underneath. Stuff, yeah it's a good point there
with the crown of, it with the. Concrete originally we're
talking fifty years, old nineteen, seventy now beyond fifty. Years
he was also asked about. This you, know the fences
came in, once then the weather came in knocked down
the centerfield fence, before so he was asked would he
(01:04:12):
consider moving the fences yet, AGAIN i don't think.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
SO i, mean we are going to put in the
new batter's.
Speaker 7 (01:04:18):
Eye our foul, POLES i THINK i told you our
foul poles are half the regulation.
Speaker 2 (01:04:25):
Heights so we're going to put new foul poles.
Speaker 7 (01:04:27):
In so we'll put a new batter's eye, in potentially
a new yetti yartist type area in right center. Field
we're going to do that this, Winter so that could
affect the fence a little, bit but more than likely
we'll probably leave it.
Speaker 1 (01:04:40):
Alone all, right there it is comments From loggorn's head
Coach Jim. Slashnaker one. Again friday, Evening texas will Host
lamar and that game will be AT Ufcu Dish Falulk.
Field all, right we'll be back to wrap up our
number two here on this yacht Rock wednesday. Afternoon i'm
thirteen h zone full.

am thirteen under the zonem glad to have you with
us here on this Yacht Rock wednesday, Afternoon Craig way
right here alongside the Producer Jay. Carman so you said
you jump back into watching some of that yacht rock.
DOCUMENTARY i did, that the documentary with a C. K, yeah, yeah,
right yeah, Yeah so what what what's your biggest? Takeaways,
(01:09:13):
Farten you've seen all but what the last whatever thy
minutes or.
Speaker 4 (01:09:17):
So, Yeah i've got one segment left for my my
midnight snack. Tonight but, okay you, KNOW i, KNOW i
came in knowing for a guy that listens to a
lot of different. MUSIC i came in knowing surprisingly little
about yacht, rock AND i didn't realize how How michael
McDonald had his hands. Everywhere, YEAH i didn't realize how
(01:09:37):
much jazz you could, Hear, yeah and just how many
songs were sort of based on That Doobie brothers.
Speaker 1 (01:09:43):
Beat.
Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
Yeah the kind of the walking, piano, sure and some
of the descriptors it had just just made it all make.
Sense AND i think it confirmed a couple of my
you know. Qualms, oh a lot of it sounds the,
SAME a lot of it's just kind of this laid back.
Malaise the still make a lot of, sense BUT i
also had a greater appreciation.
Speaker 1 (01:10:02):
For it coming out of. It, okay, yeah, well AND
i think you're right. There there are different, routes just
like rock and roll itself when it when it it's
genesis came about in the early, fifties it was a
mix of SAY r AND b, soul even some country
uh from the uh from The British isle, skiffle that
(01:10:24):
that genre of. Music SO i think it was kind
of a melting. Pot AND i think AND i think
got rock is.
Speaker 6 (01:10:29):
Kind of that.
Speaker 1 (01:10:29):
Way so we've been bopping back with some of. That
we'll do some more of that today now because we've
been keeping everybody updated on what was going on with
the baseball. Playoffs there's some we need to dive some
more into football. Now coming up here in a few,
minutes we'll hear From longhorn's head, Coach Steve. Sarkisian here's
here's a thing THAT i think is a good. Thing
(01:10:51):
it is for long worn fans and obviously for media
who are looking to present, things but certainly for. Fans.
Uh you you almost almost get a daily press briefing
if you will From sark during during football. Season you
(01:11:13):
almost get. It monday we have the news, conference so
it's it's big on. There usually you don't hear from
him On. Tuesday we have long warn players we hear
from On. Tuesday there might be some leftover sound For.
Monday wednesday is a fresh batch like today is because
of THE sec teleconference and and and THE i mentioned
(01:11:33):
this last week that the word teleconference really is kind
of an antiquated. Term we still do conference calls these
days with. PEOPLE i do them quite, frequently in, fact
with high school football. Coaches WHEN i work on a,
telecast the producer will arrange. It but a lot of
(01:11:54):
those now have transitioned into zoom. Meetings not, all but
a lot of them.
Speaker 2 (01:11:59):
Have and.
Speaker 1 (01:12:01):
We also have these conference. Calls so THE, sec just
like The big. TWELVE i, remember going only back in
the nineties in The southwest conference, days you would dial
in to an eight hundred number and it would, click
and they had. It eventually they had it where. Automated
it was. Automated you just it clicked right. In then
(01:12:24):
there was later on the thing where you had to
enter a CONFERENCE id, number that kind of. Stuff because Quite,
frankly the reason they had to do that is because
a lot of, fans some fans got a hold of
the conference number in The Southwest conference, days so they're
dialing in and it's clicking right in and they're they're asking.
Questions and this was before you know that nowadays for
(01:12:45):
anybody who's into zoom and has to use. Zoom and
the pandemic really brought zoom to all of. Us and
it was it was, used but not that often prior
to the, pandemic and then zoom just zoomed on everybody
and when we had to use, It, well we've become a.
(01:13:06):
Custom i'm sure you Have jake with the raised hand.
Function if you want to ask a, question you click
on for a. Raise we'll even't have a raised hand
function per. Se on the Old Southwest conference conference, call
they didn't have. That so anybody could just jump, in
chime in with questions and there would be the occasional
hard boiled fan who would interject himself into the. Conversation
(01:13:30):
so The Southwest conference was, like we've got to do
something about. This so then they changed. It you could dial,
in but you had to have a code to get
into the into the. Conference, nowadays what THE sec does
is you do it with a raised hand function And
(01:13:52):
sark On. Thursdays this goes back to my original point
that you have an almost daily availability With Sart, Tuesday No, Wednesday,
yes with THE sec. Teleconference, thursday he does his media,
zoom which is his final media obligation during the week
(01:14:14):
is the media zoom with largely local. Media that is
a zoom thing where you have to click the raised hand.
Function we have Long worn weekly that we actually record
On wednesday night and then it airs On thursday night
and then it re airs On. Friday so you hear
from the head coach almost, daily and LIKE i, said
by and, LARGE i think it's a good. Thing Long
horn fans want to. Know you, know it's kind of
(01:14:36):
the daily briefing almost about what's going, on especially as
guys are trying to bounce back from. Injury and tomorrow
we'll have OUR Djc law injury update coming off of
THE Sec Student Athlete Availability. Report basically the injury, report
(01:14:56):
and student athletes can be listed at as, probable, questionable
doubtful or out on those and so we'll find out
for sure tomorrow on those the probable or doubtful or
questionable or out status of guys Like Trey, WEISNER C. J,
(01:15:19):
BAXTER M, Mosley Alex, january guys like. That so we'll
hear those kinds of. Things so we Have sark from
THE sec, teleconference and again it's called a, teleconference but
the way they do it is they click right into
The sark and then there's you, know raised hand functions
(01:15:40):
to ask him. Questions so that's coming up in a few.
Minutes but a couple OF nfl notes for. You you
don't happen to have any of, these this multitude Of
Cleveland brown's quarterbacks on any of your fantasy?
Speaker 4 (01:15:54):
Teams do you Only Dynasty? Craig and that's a whole
other can of. WORMS i don't know if the listeners.
Speaker 5 (01:15:59):
Are, yeah you're.
Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
Right and by the, way how many fantasy leagues are you?
Speaker 11 (01:16:03):
In?
Speaker 1 (01:16:05):
Five are you? REALLY i keep track of all of.
Speaker 4 (01:16:09):
Them the day THAT i forget a lineup or, decide
you know what it's not you Know i'm losing Because
i'm not keeping up with, it that's the Day i'll
know it's too. Many i've never had more than, this
But i've had this for a few years now And
the thing, Is, craig, RIGHT i graduated from.
Speaker 3 (01:16:25):
SCHOOL i use these leagues to keep up with people
a lot of the.
Speaker 8 (01:16:28):
Time.
Speaker 4 (01:16:29):
Huh i've got my league with my My texas student television.
Friends i've got this group of college friends over, here
this group of high school. Friends Then i've got a
group of friends from back. Home, well two different leagues
with groups of friends from back. Home so that's how
you get to. Five and you know what AM i?
Speaker 18 (01:16:46):
AM i?
Speaker 3 (01:16:47):
Constantly does it dilute the? Experience? Probably?
Speaker 1 (01:16:52):
YES i think the more operative question for a lot
of folks would be do you have a? Life but?
Anyway probably? No, yeah, okay all, right all, right but
do this in baseball? Too how many baseball? Leagues?
Speaker 3 (01:17:02):
Oh just, too just?
Speaker 1 (01:17:02):
Too just two baseball? Leagues any other? Sports you play
fantasy in? Basketball anything?
Speaker 3 (01:17:08):
Else no fantasy, basketball daily, fantasy anything like. That. No
And i've dabbled in fantasy, hockey but that wasn't really
much of my.
Speaker 1 (01:17:15):
Thing, okay all. Right you know a friend of, ours
a mutual friend of, ours D. Hanson he is the
play by play voice For Bowie High. School he's a
friend work with us here for a. TIME D at
one time was in something like seven or eight fantasy
leagues and different. Ones i'll never get. THIS i used
to joke with him about this because he literally literally
(01:17:38):
was in, football, baseball, basketball multiple. Ones, THERE i think.
Hockey he was in bass. Fishing there was a bass fishing.
Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
Fantasy do they play fantasy Fat Bear?
Speaker 1 (01:17:50):
Week? YEAH i don't, know but we heard.
Speaker 2 (01:17:53):
That it's.
Speaker 1 (01:17:54):
Amazing we heard the wrap up on Fat bear during
Fat Bear week during? Inconceivable what did they use on
their bass fishing? LINES i had no. Idea the waiver
wireh there you, Go, okay all, right that, Works BUT i,
uh but the was the is a man of many,
talents and also we used to give him grief about stuff,
(01:18:15):
like for, example his favorite drink At starbucks always remember
was quad venti non fat uh quad venting non fat,
uh four raw sugar rot A Lotte oh no quad venti,
(01:18:42):
uh triple. PUMP i guess the, chocolate yeah, yeah and
then the and then non. Fat but he would have
the four pump no whip, mocha and then in the
holidays he would have two shots of. Peppermint so we
used to give him a lot of grief about.
Speaker 4 (01:18:59):
That So i'm realizing now that you brought up my fantasy,
leagues AND i instantly went on the. DEFENSIVE i feel,
LIKE i feel like it might BE i was just,
curious is this the intervention of some?
Speaker 1 (01:19:10):
Kind, no, no, no, no you do you you know
that's that's the. Thing none wrong with, That none wrong with?
That if it, listen how is that any different than
a person sitting in their, apartment you, know Playing madden
or or in another, league gaming league or.
Speaker 4 (01:19:29):
Something, WELL i, Mean madden takes. Skill fantasy football is
a lot of.
Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
LUTs, okay, yeah you're, right you're.
Speaker 4 (01:19:35):
Right BUT i just like the social, aspect the competitive,
aspect AND, i you, KNOW i it's a way of
keeping in touch with a lot of people and a
lot of these. Leagues, craig we have twenty four guys
for twelve. Teams, okay just you, know so you share
a team with a, partner, yeah you, get you get
different texting channels open every. Week WOULD i have had
(01:19:57):
an excuse to text all these all these other people?
Speaker 1 (01:20:00):
Otherwise? Maybe?
Speaker 9 (01:20:01):
Maybe?
Speaker 1 (01:20:01):
Not, okay all, right well enough, Anyway the point of
all of this was to point out what The Cleveland
browns have decided to, do even uh in in their.
Misery they have a game In london This sunday against The,
vikings The, vikings who by the, way have stayed over
In europe after losing to The steelers In, Dublin ireland Last,
(01:20:24):
sunday and they're gonna play, IT i, believe At Tottenham Hotspur,
stadium and The vikings becoming the first team IN nfl
history to to to play back to back games In.
Europe so they're Gonna they're gonna do. That but The
(01:20:44):
browns are playing The vikings This, sunday and they're gonna
Bench Joe flacco and they're going to turn to Rookie Dylan. Gabriel,
Yes Shedarr, sanders by the, way will remain the third stream.
Quarterback flacco will be the backup right. Now Kevin, stefanski
who noted that the decision of bench flackorn Start gabriel was,
his said it was best for the football. TEAM i
(01:21:05):
don't know what is best for The browns these, days you,
KNOW i don't know what because nothing seems to.
Speaker 3 (01:21:11):
Work they got a good run, defense, yeah but that's about.
Speaker 4 (01:21:17):
It Quinn Shawn jenkins has look good for, them as
Has Dylan. Samson i've liked both of their rookie running,
backs but they're not the type of offensive line that
they used to, be. Right they don't really have any
particular defensive standouts Besides Miles. Garrett, Right they're just not
really a team THAT i think has that high of a.
(01:21:39):
Ceiling And Dylan gabriel is not really a guy that
raises your ceiling to.
Speaker 1 (01:21:43):
Me, yeah, yeah, Right so that could be. Wrong he
could be. Great, well he's gonna get his. Shot put
it this. Way that is coming up this weekend in THE,
Nfl and that's the game In england this. Week it's
in The london suburb At, tottenham guess is where where it'll.

Speaker 1 (01:28:25):
IN i was reminded of the WEEKEND i was In
Las vegas And Colin hay a minute work was playing
In Ringo star As All star. Band that minute work
does fall into the category of yeat, rock at least
some of their catalog. Does and this was this was
their first big. Hit well Down under was probably their
(01:28:46):
first big, hit but it was on the Same.
Speaker 4 (01:28:48):
Apple there and lots of debate in the documentary over
who fell into what, category Including hall Of. OATES i
think you might have debated that with With cam on
the show time they're.
Speaker 1 (01:28:58):
Yacht, rock they, ARE i mean they kind of they you,
know some of their some of their catalog might skew
outside of. It it's just Like i've said about a
lot of other. Things Not Ald Doobie brothers music is
yacht rock, music but yacht rock does Include Doobie brothers
Later Doobie. Brothers not All Steely dan is yacht. Rock
(01:29:23):
and when you watch the last twenty minutes of the,
thing you'll you'll get a definite answer From Donald fagan
on where that on where they belong in that? Genre
and uh and but yet there are some that are
you listen to the Album, asia you're going to hear
it that's that's yat rock oriented, stuff all. Right onward
(01:29:44):
to hear From longhorn's head, Coach Steve. Circus and this
again was from earlier, today a little while ago THE sec,
teleconference and it's always like most press, conferences they asked
the head coach to have some opening comments And sart
did just.
Speaker 23 (01:29:57):
That, yeah it's exciting time for, us obviously OUR sec.
OPENER i know a lot of other teams around the
conference have have kicked off conference, play and there's some
teams that are three games into conference. Play SO i
finally get an opportunity to play AN sec game AN sec,
opponent you, know in a in A i, guess a
really good football team and a great. Environment, uh and
(01:30:19):
our guys are looking forward.
Speaker 1 (01:30:20):
To, it LIKE i, said kicking OFF sec, play which
of course will be In, Gainesville florida against The Florida.
Gators and, uh you, know The longwards played their first
four games out of, conference they were three and one non.
Conference now they play eight consecutive, games eight consecutive. Weeks
actually they played nine, weeks have one more open date,
(01:30:41):
coming so it's eight consecutive games though in conference play
out of the next nine calendar weekends coming. Up and
So sark was, asked do you break it down into?
That do you look at your season in sections and
and also so toward that, end because as we, know
(01:31:03):
all roads lead back To arch, panning, Right is there
a message To arch about this particular section of the
season coming?
Speaker 18 (01:31:11):
Up, YEAH i would say the way our the way our.
Speaker 23 (01:31:15):
Scheduling lined, up it's kind of, like you, know we
just finished up preseason, play you, know with with four
non conference.
Speaker 18 (01:31:22):
Games, uh and now we're into the regular. Season you,
know now we're INTO sec.
Speaker 23 (01:31:26):
Play we've got eight STRAIGHT sec ball, games as we,
know all very difficult and, challenging not only physically but
mentally and all that that entails and.
Speaker 18 (01:31:35):
Emotionally and you, know For, arch it's it's continued to be.
Speaker 1 (01:31:38):
Him you.
Speaker 23 (01:31:38):
KNOW i think that's one of the things that that
we've been harping on here is that you, know as
much as the attention swirls around, him you, know he
doesn't have to play to that, attention whether it's, positive,
negative whatever it may, be and focus on his, teammates
focus on what he needs to do to, prepare focus
(01:31:59):
on having some fun playing. Football that's when he's at his.
Best AND i think in the end of, it all
that that'll serve as repositive for.
Speaker 1 (01:32:07):
Him you, Know sark will readily acknowledge What archbanning has
gone through in the first month of the. Season it
is popular phraseology to categorize, it to classify it as
growing pains for a young quarterback making his first real
string of, starts his first string of starts as the
(01:32:31):
designated starting, quarterback number one. Quarterback we know we started
a couple of games last year When quinn youwrs was,
down but we also knew that When quinn got healthy,
again yours would be back on the, field and he.
Was so it's been categorized as the first real year
as a starting quarterback For Arch, banning and it has
(01:32:51):
been classified by many as growing pains what he's gone.
Through And sark was asked on THIS sec, teleconference how
much of these quote unquote growing pains For manning are
quite simply being the fact That arch is going through
it for the first time his first year as the
regular starting. Quarterback you, KNOW i.
Speaker 23 (01:33:12):
Think at the end of the, day there's always going
to be growing, pains you, know and whether you get
those growing pains, early in the, middle, late, whenever you,
know in your first season there's going to be growing,
pains and there's going to be learning. Experiences the key
to the drill is to learn from those experiences and
grow from. Them AND i really Credit arcs AND i
credit his teammates for the way they've handled that through
(01:33:33):
the first month of the. SEASON i thought those guys
handled it really, well have come out on the other
side of, it and they have been using it as
a real positive to grow from and so in and
of the, end it's kind of, like, Well i'd much
rather have those growing pains early than, later and we got,
them and now he can he can get back, to you,
know being the player THAT i know he you know
(01:33:54):
he wants to be in as capable of being in
the teammate that that he wants to be every single,
day and the leader that he, is and the impact
that that has on the other guys and the team as.
Speaker 1 (01:34:03):
Well, yeah so some thoughts on going through the growing.
Pains now another real popular thing that the, media not
only in this town but on a national level, Do
AND i don't blame them at all of that fact
That i've brought this up on my own in doing
(01:34:23):
and being with Sark On Longhorn weekly each, week and
that is the phenomenon of Getting sark to compare his
experiences as a high profile college football quarterback to What
(01:34:45):
art is going. Through, Remember sark wasn't All american AT.
Eyu he was A juco, transfer came in from junior,
college transferred in and always jokes about how his first
few ballgames were real growing, pains the things he had
to go. Through then he got much better and went,
(01:35:05):
forward and then his last year he was really really.
Speaker 2 (01:35:08):
Good and.
Speaker 1 (01:35:11):
As, such he's been often asked to compare his, experiences
the mental, approach all of those things that he had
to go through there in the early, nineties alongside What
arch is having to deal with right. Now so one
of the questions that he. Got and by the, way
(01:35:32):
we hear questions on THE sec teleconference that have already
been well discussed here, locally so quite. Awten when you,
listen as you might hear things that you comments From
sart that you've heard. Before i'll tell you something else.
Too you will hear questions on THE sec teleconference that
(01:35:57):
you will probably never hear or rarely here from the local.
Media and one of those is coming up in a few.
Minutes i'll get to. It but for the purposes of
This sart was asked to reflect on his own personal,
experience his own journey as a college quarterback during his
time AT, byu and how that applies to What arch
(01:36:19):
is dealing with on a day by, day game by game.
Basis you, KNOW i think.
Speaker 23 (01:36:23):
One my process was a little bit, different you, know
and THAT i was joking about this the other. Day you,
KNOW i think the two biggest things that happened to
me that year were THE Usa today wrote an article about,
me AND i was on the cover OF Tv. Guide,
okay so times have changed a little bit for What
arch is going through comparatively from a notoriety and an exposure.
(01:36:46):
Standpoint all.
Speaker 18 (01:36:47):
Right, so but but in the, end it's it's just.
You you continued to the, grind you, know you stay
to the. Grind you.
Speaker 23 (01:36:55):
KNOW i always felt, like WHEN i was going through,
it how important my teammates were BECAUSE i was going
to be a better player the better they performed around.
Me AND i always tried to tap into those. Guys
AND i always had fun and, competing you, know AND
i love to compete as a, player you, KNOW i,
WAS i was an emotional.
Speaker 1 (01:37:13):
Player you.
Speaker 23 (01:37:13):
KNOW i MEAN i did definitely showed and exuded a
lot of, emotion and WHEN i, didn't that was probably
out of the norm and maybe WHEN i was out of.
Character AND i think a lot can be said for
ours that. Way you, know he he's got emotion inside
of him THAT i definitely don't want bottled, up and
so we've got to allow him to be who he.
Is and there's gonna be criticism of that, too but,
(01:37:37):
really who, cares you, know as long as he's being
himself and he's being a great teammate and he's working
hard and he's doing things the right. Way you're on
one side of the, fence you're gonna people say something about,
you and then there's gonna be people on the other
side of the fence saying something else about. You and
you just can't ride the emotional rollercoaster of the opinions of.
Others AND i think that he's figuring that. Out and
(01:37:58):
it was it was definitely learning, experience AS i, Said
BUT i think he can stay true to you, know
who he is and true to his. Teammates you know
that good things are going to continue to happen for.
Speaker 1 (01:38:08):
Him just out of Curiosity, jake do you know WHAT
tv guide is or? Was do you even know what that?
Speaker 3 (01:38:16):
IS i mean there was a guide button on the
old REMOTE tv growing.
Speaker 1 (01:38:20):
Up oh, NO i figured that would be your. ANSWER
Tv guide was this little pamphlet sized it was squared
guide that had on all of you went to INDIVIDUAL
tv markets across the country and it told you what
was ON tv in a description of it for one full.
(01:38:41):
Week it went every every. Week you got one every.
Speaker 3 (01:38:44):
Week so this just went away once The internet became.
Speaker 1 (01:38:47):
A tv guide eventually, died but it was very much
counted on for people watching LOCAL, tv and also cable
changed everything with.
Speaker 3 (01:38:57):
That now you can get all that with a graphic On. Twitter, yeah,
exactly so a lot of.
Speaker 1 (01:39:01):
It that's WHY i thought that was funny when he
was talking About, yeah he was on the cover OF
Tv guide and ALSO Usa today doing a piece OF
Usa today is still, around although not printing. Anymore you
can you can subscribe to them. Online. Okay same reporter
who Asked sark to compare his personal spirit experience as
(01:39:21):
a quarterback and his journey as a quarterback to arch
had to follow up where he, asked if it doesn't happen,
overnight like everything? Clicks can?
Speaker 9 (01:39:32):
It does it?
Speaker 1 (01:39:33):
Happen, no it surely.
Speaker 23 (01:39:35):
Doesn't you, know it's it's it's a developmental, position first of,
all and sometimes just natural ability and talent can, mask you,
know areas where maybe you need to continue to, develop
and sometimes it. Doesn't sometimes you get. Exposed AND i
don't know all the situation. There, OBVIOUSLY i focus on
what we have to do, here but that's just the
(01:39:56):
world we live in right. Now and we got odds
on these quarterbacks who haven't, started you, know but three
or four games on are The heisman favors before the. Season,
stars we got odds on who's going to be the
first pick of the. Draft like the thing's gotten out
of control quite. Frankly but it's also a good thing
because that's the exposure for college football that we're getting,
now and that's the excitement around our. Game but you
(01:40:16):
know that these guys are having to learn through and navigate,
through and so that's part of the developmental process, too
is how to deal with the outside noise and the
outside influences in staying focused on the task.
Speaker 18 (01:40:30):
At hand and what you need to do to continue
to prepare and continue to. Develop as a.
Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
Player all, Right now here's the QUESTION i was talking
about WHEN i said there will be some questions on
THE sec teleconference that will mirror the ones That sark
had just answered two days prior with the local, Media
and there will be some questions that will be asked
on THE sec teleconference that you almost never would hear
(01:40:55):
these kinds of questions by the local. Media the reason
being is because THE sac teleconference has all these different
media from the all of all SIXTEEN sec, markets their
areas and other markets as. Well so here's a, question for,
example that you really wouldn't here, asked at least not
(01:41:17):
Until texas were to Play, arkansas which doesn't happen Until
november twenty. Second but Since Sam, pittman the head coach
Of arkansas was fired after last, weekend Uh sark was
asked did he have any thoughts response reaction to the
dismissal Of Sam, pittman The arkansas.
Speaker 23 (01:41:36):
Coach, Well, hey first of, All i've got a ton
of respect For Sam. Pittman that guy's a tremendous football.
Speaker 2 (01:41:42):
Coach he's a good.
Speaker 23 (01:41:43):
Man you know from where that program was when he
arrived and what he was able to do in a
very tough. CONFERENCE i think sometimes, people you, know everybody
wants to win a national championship and everybody wants to
BE sec.
Speaker 18 (01:41:56):
Champs this conference is really, hard it's really.
Speaker 23 (01:42:00):
Difficult and at the time when he came in in
THE Sec, WEST i mean that that was that was
it was, brutal you. Know and now we expand the,
conference and so a ton of respect for the job
that he did there and as the, man as the,
person and but this is where we're at in college football,
now you, Know AND i think one of the challenges
That i've heard multiple other head coaches talk, about how
(01:42:24):
do you how are we going to get our fan
bases to be able to wrap their brain around nine
to three is going to become a really good season
in college. Football you, Know we're we're going into a
nine GAME sec schedule next year AND i don't know
how many teams ranked in the top twenty five right
now in THE.
Speaker 18 (01:42:41):
SEC i don't even know that.
Speaker 2 (01:42:42):
Number and then h the.
Speaker 23 (01:42:44):
Idea that we're still going to play these non conference,
games and so it's gonna be really. Challenging it's gonna be,
hard you, know and hopefully people can appreciate the jobs
that everybody's, doing and some of the great wins that
that That sam had when he was, there AND i
think that to Beating tennessee at home just a year
ago and what that meant to that. Community so all in,
(01:43:04):
all a ton of respect for. Him you, Know arkansas
is a great. Place i'm sure they'll find a great.
Speaker 1 (01:43:09):
Head, coach all. Right, so LIKE i said, that that's
an example of a question you probably wouldn't hear the
local media ask here up until at least The Texas arkansas.
Game If, pittman for, example had been dismissed the weekend
Before texas were to Play, arkansas then it might engender that. Response,
finally one other, thing back to the actual nuts and
bolts of the game itself This saturday In. Gainesville, Uh
(01:43:34):
florida's defensive, strength quite, frankly is a lot like The
longhorns defensive strength really tough for the linebacking, corps And
sark was asked what impresses him about The gators.
Speaker 23 (01:43:43):
Linebackers, first it starts With Ron, roberts the defensive. COORDINATOR
i think he does a great job and been doing
it a long time at a really high. Level they're they're.
There they play together really. Well you, know they've they've
got a they've got a very stout defensive front that
allows them to play a lot of split safety, defense
(01:44:06):
and then coordinating the front with the back end obviously
puts a lot of pressure on the two. Linebackers and
their ability to play the run and the, PASS i
think is probably what makes them special because you, know
there's a lot of times they don't they don't have
you outnumbered in the, box and those guys have to
get off blocks and make. Tackles but in the same,
(01:44:26):
token they're required to to essentially play man coverage on
tight ends and running backs and then do a great
job of. That and so their versatility to do both
and to tie the front with the back END i
think speaks to you, know not only the physical ability
of those two, guys but but the but the football
iq that they play.
Speaker 1 (01:44:44):
With All, right there is A sark from THE sec teleconference,
tomorrow we'll hear him with the local media on that
media zoom one final take of that also, Tomorrow by the,
way you can come out and see us if you,
want because we're going to be a twin p weeks down.
South So we'll give you some more details on that coming,
(01:45:04):

final media zoom of the week as. Well All, right
we have more coming up as we continue on thirteen hundred.
Zone this is part and parcel of, it this particular
to here to love you from latter Day doovie, brother

Speaker 4 (01:45:26):
Career AND i never realized just how influential they were
in yacht. ROCK i MEAN i always just thought of
them as a rock.
Speaker 1 (01:45:34):
Group, yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:45:37):
You, know the learning this was glossed, over AND i
got to, say, YEAH i thoroughly loved my experience as
a student in the history of.
Speaker 3 (01:45:47):
ROCK i would walk all the.
Speaker 4 (01:45:48):
Way PAST dkr To Belmont. Hall it was not a convenient,
walk especially of the heat for this class and yacht
rock gloss right over.
Speaker 1 (01:45:59):
There you, go just flew, by all. Right another thing
that we have a great appreciation for Is ryan McGee's
Bottom ten FROM, espn where it's all done very much
tongue in, cheek where he picks what supposedly the ten
worst college football teams of the particular. Week, now tongue
(01:46:21):
in cheek also includes teams that are really kind of pretty,
good but lost a game they shouldn't have, lost so
they sometimes can get thrown into. It so keep that
in mind as we. Go for, example all right, Now
number ten Is charlotte who's known as the forty nine,
ers but as they're categorized The charlotte one in three,
(01:46:43):
years he, Said and he's From, Charlotte North, carolina he,
said my hometown team is one of a totally not whooping,
bup but still seems like a lot for one conference
after only one month of football three so Just american
teams suck at one in. Something so, anyway on his waiting,
(01:47:03):
list by the, way a state Of kent Because Kent
state won a game and came out of you tipped
as he puts FOR u tip, Muddled Tennessee, State north
WORSTERN fa not F I U boston Call ledge as
he puts Down clempson with A p on there. Acrimonious
(01:47:24):
and there's some other ones as. Well number Nine Arkansas
state and the mental state Of, arkansas as he puts
Because Arkansas state the Red wolves are not very. Good he,
said they lost our old friends in former bottom ten
Stalwart ulm Pronounced. Olm number Eight northern ill ug noise
(01:47:45):
at one in. Three number seven Is San Nose state
at one in. Three they're one and three one of
Four Mountain west teams stuck at one in. Three number
six no. Pokes that's The, cowboys not Go. Pokes so,
yeah talking About Oklahoma state being in number, Five number
(01:48:10):
five Is Penn. State and we Know Penn state is
not one of the worst teams in the, country but
they did loose To, oregon and so number five is
we are back in the coveted fifth spot instead of
we Are Penn. State number Four Oregon Trail. State he,
said you have died of. Dysentery you're oh and. Five
number three is THE ucla booins they're to. Four number
(01:48:34):
two is you mess the? Former number one you? Mass he.
Said have you've seen that meme Of Cookie monster drumming
his fingers on the, table impatiently waiting to go bonkers
on a yet to arrive trail, Cookies, yeah that's us
waiting For october, eleventh the pill Of fight of The
week of The year of The Century Mega, bowl when
The Minute men traveled To state Of, kent who are
(01:48:56):

cruise through their. Schedule that's with A. K open data

(01:49:21):
State every TIME i say that, excent they're spelling him
with A. K who were just conquered By New mexico
in Alba. Querque So, Houston Sam houston has listed as
number one in The Bottom. Ten all, right The Bottom,
ten a weekly offering FROM. Espn we'll be back to
wrap up today's edition of the. Program i'm thirteen under The.
Speaker 11 (01:49:39):
